Question: Re: Equium's keyboard has suddenly stopped typing some letters

Hi

my mother has a Toshiba Equium, and has just phoned to say that its stopped typing the letters "s", "d" and "g" - does anyone have any ideas why this would happen?

Thanks, Clare

Preferred Solution: Re: Equium's keyboard has suddenly stopped typing some letters

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Re: Equium's keyboard has suddenly stopped typing some letters

Hi

Looks like a keyboard malfunction...
In my opinion you should contact the ASP technician in order to replace the keyboard.
The point is that it?s not possible to replace the single buttons... of course you can replace the key caps but nit the full button...

Therefore a keyboard replacement would be necessary in order to solve this problem.

My computer detects my keyboard and the tab, space, enter and back buttons work fine but the rest stopped working, I've tried another keyboard and it did the same thing. the main issue is that I cant type my password on the login screen in windows 10. I also cant access the bios since numbers and F-keys don't work as well.

Have you tried a wired PS-2 keyboard (the old type with the circular plug)

Hello,

I have 2 problems and would love to hear your thoughts. (Bold)
Before couple weeks ago, my mouse started to act weird, like it stops moving for couple second and I hear the sound of a new device plugged in then it goes back to work, afterwards ... it stopped going back, a restart was a must for it to continue working EVEN THO the mouse lights were still on.

In few days, the keyboard of the laptop it self (built in) stopped typing some letters (back-space, enter, D, I), I've booted into a portable OS and the keys weren't working too, I assume it's hardware problem.

I went and bought new mouse and an external keyboard, the same USB problem that happened with the old mouse happened, I thought it could be some drivers or some software interupting, I formatted my PC and the problem still persists! BUT I do not remember the USB disconnecting or any sort when the windows was FRESH and not connected to the internet (were some drivers could be installed through windows itself).

Laptop is N53SN ASUS Laptop.

- Built-in keyboard: any thoughts? And what shall I do about it? Replace or is there something I can do other than replacing?
- USB disconnection, the lights still work on both keyboard and the mouse when they disconnect, I have disabled the "Power management setting" that makes the PC turn off the USB ports for power-saving.

Thanks, and sorry if I missed any needed information, it's my first topic.

Answer:USB ports disconnecting / Keyboard stopped typing some letters

Hello and welcome Killer mate no need to get a new KB yet a few more specs would be handy though mate.

Now assuming you haven't tried them out have you downloaded the drivers for either the external KB - presuming again it is a specified manufacturer or the inbuilt KB?

For the machine drivers they are here

Hey guys I'm having a strange problem with my keyboard: it doesn't work when I press letters or numbers.

So the problem all started today I was looking at a website on Mandelbrot sets that has some interactive Java applets. Basically you can zoom in if you press Ctrl+alt and mousewheel scroll in the applet and ctrl+shift for another function. After I did the ctrl+alt+mousewheel thing, my mousewheel became stuck on the "text zooming" function engaged by holding ctrl then scrolling the mousewheel. This prompted me to just reboot my computer since I could not scroll up or down through webpages with my mousewheel at that time.

When I rebooted my comp and was ready to type my password into the login screen, I noticed that my keyboard wasn't working. After repeated attempts at rebooting and loading the "Last known good configuration," I found that the letters, symbols and numbers (including numpad numbers) don't work. This means I cant type in my password to login to windows...I am however able to use Tab, delete, arrow keys, spacebar, Enter, capslock, F-keys, etc though. The Backspace key doesn't delete but instead enters in that strange Box character (like the box characters you see when you visit a foreign webpage with fonts your computer doesn't have).

So anyway, what's wrong here? My keyboard is broken itself, I messed up something in Windows, or I activated some obscure keyboard sleep-mode that I don't know about?

Thanks so much if you can help... Read more

Windows 10
Start - Settings - Ease of Access - Keyboard

Everything here is off. If i turn on the On-Screen Keyboard no keys are Highlighted (indicating they are depressed/stuck )
When I use the hard keyboard and sometimes even the onscreen keyboard its as if either Ctrl, Alt Win or something are pressed down as it just types shortcuts.
EG:

-H- typed into chrome browser address bar via onscreen keyboard types as normal
-H- typed into chrome browser address bar via hard keyboard brings up -Chrome://history- But now also on the onscreen keyboard Ctrl is Highlighted.
I click on the onscreen keyboard to deactivate the now highlighted Ctrl button and try again. Now things are different, as now both the onscreen keyboard and the hard keyboard both bring up ?Chrome://history- when -H- is typed ( Shift is not depressed )

This seems to randomly cycle one min onscreen keyboard works fine, next the keyboard works fine or they either work or none of the work rendering the computer useless.

I cant help feel it?s a software issue but im no pro and I don?t have an additional external keyboard to try but as the onscreen and hard keyboard work ok for a while sometimes I assume something is up and that?s what brought me here.

Hopefully this is clear enough to be understood and to help others who may have the same issue.

Thank you so much for your time.

I have a Dell Dimension 3000 computer with the Dell keyboard that came with it. I've had it for almost 5 years. The past few weeks, I've had problems with the keyboard not inputting the letters I type. I'll type a sentence or 2 and look up to see only 1/2 of the first sentence is there.
This mostly happens when I'm posting on online forums. It has yet to happen when I'm working in Word.

Any ideas anyone?

My mother's computer started having issues with the keyboard, recently. I'll say it how i see it, but obviously, i might be missing something.

When typing the letter q on the keyboard, "qt" comes up. w and e are fine, r types "re". This happens with two different keyboards. I brought by my (this) keyboard, and it worked fine, but i only tried for a minute. On her computer, i tried both a ps2 and usb keyboard (native for both, no adapters).

Right now, if i try to login, when i click on a user, it fills in the password field (as if there was a stuck key) and tells me the caps lock is on. Capslock button does turn it off, but it did not look like backspace was doing anything. The bios did not complain of a stuck button. Safe mode (i happened to try with networking) has the same issue. No issue using the keyboard before windows loads.

Using teamviewer from my computer to hers is tough. I can hit capslock with sometimes works, keys sometimes work and sometimes don't, if it types in two letters, i can use the mouse to highlight one (to overwrite) when continuing. With a lot of effort and time i can login. Clicking icons on the desktop does not work, from the start menu does.

I tried hitting the helper menu to get the on screen keyboard for logging on. The first time i tried, it came up and worked. Now the button doesn't do anything.

I went into Device Manager (early on, when i could still do things) and deleted the keyboard. It made me reboot, but didn't se... Read more

Answer:Keyboard typing wrong letters

Just tried again via TeamViewer. I can delete in the password field, but it acts as if there is a stuck key. (This is different than the last time i tried.) The form with the option for the on screen keyboard now does come up, but the keyboard is an empty frame and the mouse cursor (while over the frame) shows the circle of waiting.

This is weird. It's like Schrodinger's cat or something. The problem changes every time i look at it!

This has been happening every other day for me recently where I will be typing and my keyboard will randomly start typing the wrong letters or pressing certain keys will open the menu bar, but my computer to sleep or just type completely random letters. I've googled it once before and found that I should change the settings in control panel > regional and language settings which worked for me once but lately it doesn't.

I've even purposely added a foreign language and then re added my normal one (UK) but hasn't helped, it was already on the proper settings anyway. The last two times it has happened was on the night and left my keyboard unplugged, the next day I plugged my keyboard back into the tower while the computer was still loading up and it has been working fine now and did the same again last night. I don't know why it does this? Also google suggested a FN key but my keyboard doesn't have one.

Hi,

I have an hp laptop and my keyboard is being acting very weird. When pressing almost all the keys, i get a group of letters. For example, when pressing "v" i get "bgv". some of them stopped responding at all. I used to get "1qa" when pressing "q", but now it doesnt even respong. Also, the on-screen keyboard shows that both shifts are pressed.

Can anyone help me with this?

Answer:Keyboard is typing several letters instead of one needed

Try an external (USB) keyboard
If that works without issue, then it sounds as though your laptop keyboard is faulty (dust or moisture)
You could try blowing it out with high compressed air (compressed air cans can be purchased from many electronic or computer tech stores)
But you may need to replace the faulty keyboard

Hi guys,

I just bought a new optical keyboard and mouse (made by kensington and quite cheap). The mouse is fine, but I've got problems with the keyboard. I realised that I was having trouble typing in passwords and things as it was doing strange things, so I decided to test it out in notepad. I realised that although certain keys are typing fine (mainly the outside ones), some of the inside ones are doing very odd things. e.g. the 'y' key shuts down my computer, the 'n' or 'm' key seems to type about 3 different letters and it goes on, certain keys open up new windows, and other functions in windows start happening, and I can't figure out why. Any ideas?

Go into the control panel and click Regional and Language Options, click the Languages tab, click Details button, then check in the box to make sure English (United Kingdom) and under Keyboard you have United Kingdom. If this is what you prefer.

I am about to embark on writing a few french (and German) letters on my computer at home which has as you can expect a British keyboard. Is there any way that I can change the language over to French or German standards so that it picks up and recommends where words and accents should go without me having to "insert symbol" or do strange letter contributions? Does this make sense?Or do I need to buy a French and German keyboard to get the accents in?Thanks!

Answer:Typing French letters on a British keyboard

You need to load the French and German Spell checkers. Type as normal then do a spell check and point the spellchecker to the relevant language. It will change them for you.

Answer:Satellite C50-A-1DV - keyboard typing multiple letters

Connect the external USB keyboard and check if the same ?double letters? issue would appear using such external USB keyboard.

If the double letters symptoms will not appear using external keyboard, then the internal notebook keyboard must be faulty.

This would mean that the internal keyboard must be replaced to fix the issue.
But if the double letter will appear even using the external keyboard, then the keyboard controller (part of the motherboard) could be affected.

Not quite sure if this could be fixed by BIOS update but in case your BIOS is not up to date, try to update the BIOS.

Otherwise I would recommend you to contact Toshiba authorized service provider for an check.

First try System restore to any date before the incident (preferably a few days or a week). If that does not work, uninstall the keyboard in device manager and restart, that should allow windows to reinstall the drivers. The cat probably hit a strange combination of keys like ctrl+Shift+something else and you could look all day and not find the options to correct it directly. One of these should help. In the future, put the system into sleep if you walk away for a few minutes (or close the lid), Hibernate if for longer, and shut down for hours or overnight. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

If this is a laptop see if this helps.

If you're writing numbers instead of letters when you press the keyboard of your laptop and you must hold down the Function key (Fn) to write normally.

This is due to the fact that the digital lock is activated. To solve this, simply press the Fn+Numlk or depending of the model, press the button or Fn + Shift +Numlk

Hi,

Many laptop keyboards have a section which can be used for numeric data entry only.

These keys are normally just a block of the main QWERTY keyboard and accessed by using a Function key.

You have probably got the keyboard into this "mode"

My Toshiba Equium L20-198 notebook is playing up. The keyboard seems to be somewhat lazy at times, and forgets to put letters in here and there. It seems to be worse when typing faster; is this a driver issue? If so where can I update keyboard drivers?

There don't appear to be any on the toshiba website. If its not a driver issue - whats the problem?!

Any ideas anyone?

Answer:Equium L20-198: Keyboard forgets to put letters here and there

Don?t think that this issue was causes by a faulty keyboard driver.
I have read some postings in this forum about similar keyboard issues on different notebooks and mostly the BIOS updating has helped to solve similar issue.
I would recommend checking and comparing the BIOS version on your notebook with the available version on the Toshiba page.
If it?s a newer version so try to update the BIOS but be careful!
Be sure that you use the right BIOS and the right procedure because wrong BIOS can damage the motherboard.

Answer:keyboard intermittently typing double letters and numbers

Hi Jimfh, Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP Pavilion Notebook  and keyboard issues. Here is a link to uninstall the keyboard. Restart the computer after uninstalling, it should reinstall automatically. If this does not help, what you can do, is use the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process: Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/ Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detectStep 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"Step 4. Scroll down and click on: HP contact options - click on Get phone number Case number and phone number appear. They will be happy to assist you immediately. Let me know how this goes. Thanks.

Hello. I have just received my Y700 a couple weeks ago and have noticed that while im typing it intermittently types double letters. It iis not all the time, but as you can see it just happened. It happens more when i am typing full words and sentences quickly, and not while trying one letter at at time trying to provokke it to happen. I had hoped after all windows updates were finished it would fix itself. it is getting quite annoying to have to correct everything I type. It is a brand new laptop so not to happy about this. Has anyone else with this laptop experienced this? I have updated all the drivers and seems to happen in any program i have tried.  If anyone has any insight to whether this is a hardware problem or some sort of software/driver problem, please let me know.  thanks

Answer:Y700 keyboard intermittently typing double letters...

This is happening to me, too, and it's driving me crazy. All drivers are up to date and it happens no matter what program I use. It does not seem to be restricted to any particular key or keys. Please let me know if you figure it out!

My Satellite C55-B803 laptop keyboard has started typing double letters all of a sudden.

When I press "a" it comes as "aa"and when I press backspace both "aa"are gone. On screen keyboard works fine. I have tried all possible ways..cleaning keyboard and changing keyboard settings also.

Pls do help ..

Answer:Keyboard on my Satellite C55-B803 is typing double letters

Does the same issue happen if you would use external USB keyboard?

If external USB keyboard would work properly, the double letters problem is related to the internal keyboard malfunction.
Then there is just one solution: keyboard replacement.

I recently bought an L750D-14R laptop and it has problems with the keyboard completely skipping letters when typing.

If I type any faster than the pace of 1 finger on each hand then I may as well give up typing altogether.
Has anyone else had a similar problem and if so is there a fix?

Answer:Satellite L750D-14R - Keyboard misses letters when typing

Hi

Yes, I know such issue.
As far as I know this has been fixed by BIOS update?

Check the Toshiba European driver page and download the latest BIOS for your notebook model.
Update the BIOS and check how it works.

HiAs mentioned above.. My notebook started typing weirdly and my caps lock key used to have a white LED light indicator but its not showing suddenly.. (the caps lock key is still functioning)As for the other parts of the keyboard.. when i type ' l ' the letter ' l3 ' would come out.. When i type ' i ' the letter 'oi' would appear.. It is typing joined letters randomly.. Typing ' o ' would be hitting enter and O at the same time.. I've tried almost all the suggestion in the forum but its still not working for me.. caps LED still not working and keyboard still typing weirdly  I even formatted the whole notebook totally without recovery and downloaded the latest software from HP.. Still not working..  Any suggestions? Would it be a hardware issue?  Thank you for taking your time to look into my problemPS: my laptop is in super duper good condition  cheersivan

Hello all! So I looked around the forums for an answer before I posted, and I found a topic that was about this same problem. The person finally solved the problem by system restoring their laptop to before September 19th. I did this and disabled automatic update installation, and I was fine. Then yesterday my dad was using my laptop to look something up. Apparently he thought it would be "helpful" to install any updates I had, and he updated my laptop before he gave it back. Today the problem came back, where I'll be typing and my keyboard will decide to give me numbers instead of letters. I tried another system restore, but it didn't list any days before the beginning of October as options, no matter how hard I looked, so I can't possibly restore to before September 19th. Is there any way I can get rid of this problem, or did my dad just ruin my laptop?

HelloWe have an issue where our users of the Lenovo Yoga type in Word or Excel.Whilst typing a sentence users have reported a series of sevens (7777777777) appearing like that randomly throughout.  Sometimes random letters too.  This sequence does not stop until you press Enter. You have to constantly keep deleting and restarting a sentence. This happens when using an external USB keyboard and monitor.  Our Yogas do not have NUMLOCK function on the laptop itself.  Any help solving this mystery would be appreciated! thank you

Answer:Keyboard randomly inserts numbers/letters whilst typing

Hi Redr,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing the issue with mistyping the letters on your Lenovo Yoga.

Please let us know is the system is Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga or Lenovo Ideapad Yoga?
Check with booting the system into safe mode and check if the issue persists in that also.
Check with uninstalling all keyboard adapters from device manager.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

I have a Equium L-20, just bought it and every so often it is missing characters while typing, these are random, it isn?t as if certain keys are sticking can go through and type the alphabet and every 2 or 3 times it will miss letters or characters out as if I hadn?t pressed the keys, also the space bar can miss now and again.

Would this be a keyboard fault or software, it?s kind of got me puzzled and almost to point of returning it for a replacement.
During this short post it missed 4 letters out, had to check it and fill in the blanks

Answer:Equium L-20: Keyboard random keys not typing

Hi

Well, I have read some topics about the similar issues in this forum and I think it?s not a keyboard drive problem. In my opinion it?s something wrong with the keyboard hardware or with the cable connection.
I think the best way is to contact the ASP for the detailed informations. If the warranty is valid, all replacements will be done for free.

This might be with the keyboard settings. Click Start, Control Panel and open Keyboard Properties. Try to change the Repeat Delay and Repeat Rate settings which should solve your issue.

Answer:Keyboard suddenly keeps typing ++++ without reasons

You have posted in the Windows 8 forum but your specs say you have an iPhone which obviously doesn't use Windows 8. So how about posting what the make and model of the device you are having issues with.If this is an iPhone, start by doing a cold reboot. Hold down the home and power buttons until the phone restarts. Do you have a protective screen cover on it? if so, try cleaning it and if that doesn't work, remove it. Even if you don't have a screen cover, try cleaning the screen with a soft cloth dampened with water.

Hello all, I recently bought a Gateway NV5302u (of course MFC) and I love it as it was very inexpensive for its price while being a powerful computer. For some reason, it was bothering me that a little speckle was inside my keyboard and my little spray cleaning gun tool couldn't get the little speckle, so I lacked common sense and got a paperclip and stretched out the sharp side and tried to remove it manually.

After I did this, all of a sudden some of my keyboard letters stopped working. The keyboard letters that stopped working are m, b, h, n, u, y, 8 .

I don't know what to do. I need my laptop and I don't know if there is something I can do to manually possibly reset something that I may have done to the keyboard. Thank God for the Windows 7 on-screen keyboard, and for Dragon naturally speaking program, but I really need to have my keyboard working and not having some of the letters not working really is slowing me down.

Does anyone have any suggestions or know anything I can do to solve this problem. Thanks again for your help and I know it was a stupid dumb headed move that I did but hopefully I can do something to have this fixed. Thanks again everybody!

Answer:Help! Keyboard letters m, b, h, n, u, y, 8 stopped :(

A damaged keyboard must be replaced. They are not repairable. Call Gateway and you should be able to get it replaced under warranty.

I have had this problem for nearly a month. When I type anywhere in IE it does this: "the quick rownfx jumped overthe lazy dg". It works fine in Firefox (but I dont like it) and works fine in Notepad or Wordpad etc. Here is what I have done so far.

Replaced Keyboard. (Gates you owe me $15.)
Gone though the "Add-ons" one by one.
Uninstalled Google Earth.
Uninstalled Itunes.
I spent 2 hours on the phone with Microsoft Tech Support.
They had me turning things on and off and still no solution. (I had plans to go see Jeff Dunham so I had to go. He was great BTW.)

Everything I have searched for has never had a solution.
HELP!!

Thanks

I can not log in, if i put the restore disk in and press "C" as instructed it comes up with the Bios setup and I can not move through the options with the arrows. On the login screen at boot i can right click on the password box and it displays Unincode options none are ticked? and ideas please!!

Answer:Equium M40X - keyboard has stopped responding

Hi

I assume you want to boot up from the drive?
By pressing the F2 immediately after notebook starting you should be able to enter the BIOS!
There you should be able to change the booting order.

But if you keyboard running crazy I would recommend to connect a external one and to test it.
But I think if the keyboard problem persists and you will be not able to use it so you have to replace the internal keyboard.

On my friends Tecra the cursor jumped around and it was not able to use the keyboard.
The end of story he has replaced the keyboards and everything was ok.

My Saitek Cyborg keyboard seemed to boot fine with my PC this morning (the numlock light came on), but when I went to use the internet, no key strokes would register. I said to myself, "Ok, this is just a silly Windows/driver issue, so I'll just unplug and re-plug it in. It is a brand new keyboard after all." To my surprise, now the numlock light won't even come on!

I am unsure if the keyboard gets power or not because none of the keys register strokes! I tried to plug it into my laptop, but to no avail. The Saitek driver installing application says to "plug in the device", but it will not recognize it.

I would normally just say, "****, what a POS keyboard for the power to stop working already," and be done with it, but this just seems too odd since it seemed to get power at least once while the keys were still not registering... Any help here would be much appreciated, especially since it's not even worth the shipping to get the warranty... Thanks a lot...

You checked the connection, but did you disconnect the keyboard and then reconnect it?Is it USB (flat rectangle at the end) or PS/2 (round at the end)? Can you borrow another keyboard to try out on your computer? Also, can you try your keyboard on another computer?  If so, does it still have problems? The problem could simply be that your keyboard doesn't work anymore.  Thankfully, if that's the case, they're pretty cheap and easy to replace these days.

Last night, I was playing World of Warcraft and my keyboard suddenly started malfunctioning. I figured that it was becoming unresponsive because of losing battery power, so I replaced the batteries (It is a wireless keyboard.) However, when I put the new batteries in, it started acting odd, if that is a good way to put it.

For example, if I typed "M", it would input "MNH", if I typed "H", it would input "HNM". If I typed "O', it would type "Ol;," and if I typed "i", it would type "i000000000(repeating0s)".

I recently had a virus, but that was all cleared up (I purchased McAfee and removed it easily. I checked my own HiJackThis log, but that's only because I'm familiar with the processes that run on my computer. I posted my HiJackThis log before I checked it myself, but it had been a day and I read a tutorial and did it myself. There are no longer any odd processes left (There were only 3, one disabling Task Manager, one disabling Command Line, and one disabling Registry Edit.) I ran a virus scan once more in both Safe Mode and normally.

I tried replacing the keyboard, I went out and bought a brand new Belkin media keyboard, but it did not work at all. The computer would recognize it, and the drivers were all installed, but it just could not input anything. I tried both keyboards on my second computer (The one I am using now) and they both worked just fine. I can still use my other computer ju... Read more

When I woke up this morning and went to my laptop every time I pressed a key it would register as multiple keys being pressed (for example pressing 'O' would registers as pressing P, O, I, and would turn down the volume). Upon noticing this I checked to make sure my regional keyboard settings were correct (they are). I then shut down my laptop and cleaned the keyboard with canned air. When I turned it back on my keyboard was simply not working. Everything except the mouse pad and power button won't do anything at all when I touch them. In summary I've done the following.-Made sure I have the correct regional keyboard settings (I do)-Cleaned the keyboard with canned air.-Attempted to travel to Middle-Earth for Elven tech support but Gandalf wouldn't let me pass.-Restarted my computer multiple times.-Plugged in an external USB keyboard to see if that would work (it did and is how I'm typing now).-Checked for foreign substances but none were found.-Did a virus scan. Update: Keys are working again but still registering every press as if multiple keys are being pressed.

Answer:G560 Keyboard suddenly stopped after cleaning

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Did you happen to pour or spill the alcohol on the keyboard ?  I would assume that you just dampened the cloth and then wiped the keys.

Since you probably wiped each individual key, is it possible one or more of the keys are stuck down ?

When you cleaned the keyboard was the machine turned off versus it being in hibernation or sleeping.  If it wasn't completely shut down, try this.........

Unplug the charger adapter, remove the battery and press the Power Button for 10 - 15 seconds.  Then re-install the battery, plug in the charger adapter if needed and power up the laptop and see if the keyboard is functional.

Hi Everyone,

Some of my keys on my laptop keyboard have stopped working suddenly. I'm not sure if i've accidently pressed something or if it's something to do with the FN keys but i'd love some help if anyone might be able to!
Keys not working:

Question mark and forward slash key
the last letter of the alphabet key
the arrow keys
and the 0 on the right hand side numbers pad

Does that sound like something to do with some settings or is my keyboard malfunctioning

Thank you in advance for help!! :)

Answer:Certain keys on keyboard have stopped working suddenly

I cannot say for sure but I think it has nothing to do with settings. It is not known to me that there is some option where you can disable some keyboard keys.
To be honest I think it is keyboard malfunction.

> the arrow keys
Enter BIOS settings and check if these keys work in BIOS.

Hello,

hopefully I have titled this post properly....

I have been using Win 7 Home Premium on a new build PC for about two months now. I initially used a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse with a Logitech unifying receiver. I type close to a hundred words a minute, and it was having a hard time keeping up with me, or so it seemed. The mouse also has to be right next to the back of the tower (which is on the floor beside my chair about two feet max from the right of the desk where I prefer to have the mouse, being right handed), in order to work without noticeable lag.

I tried using it with it plugged in to recharge constantly; made no difference. Eventually, I switched to a MS keyboard and mouse. No difference at all. I was still using those right up until this morning, when I threw the keyboard across the room with some venom. (You will see why.)

I didn't shut down my PC when I went to bed last night. Got up this morning, replied to a couple of things on Facebook and updated my status. Went to reply to someone else's status and bang! - my keyboard is not working at all. I checked every key. I reinstalled the drivers. I disconnected and reconnected. Rebooted the PC several times. Threw keyboard across room; picked up keys and battery cover and popped all back into place. Reinstalled Logitech mouse and keyboard with a new unifying receiver.

My keyboard still does not work. The mouse does. I can open web pages and new wordpad pages but cannot type a single letter. I... Read more

Hello windows gurus.
I believe this is a setting problem, but can't figure it out.
Dell Studio 1749 laptop running win7 pro 64

I was browsing the internet with IE10, had a bunch of other stuff open (xcel, quickbooks, other software).

All of a sudden, I must of hit some kind of key combo, because the scroll wheel on the mouse started zooming in and out the active windows instead of scrolling them up and down. Also IE10 looked different, the tabs on top "dissapeared" until I hovered the mouse up top, and then they popped back down. Kind of like the Dell Dock.

Then when I typed in a key different windows would open. I believe "i" opened IE favorites, and some other keys did different things.

The keyboard did not work in the sense that I could not type in url's into IE, or information into exel cells, notepad, etc.

I clicked around in control pannel thinking somehoe I activated some global stickey keys, but couldn't find anything.

Num lock and caps lock still activate, and if I reboot, I can login into windows with my password, so I know the keyboard is still connected and working.

Device manager says the device is working properly.

Please help?????
Thansk in advance. I know this is something stupid.

Sounds like you hit the F11 button, try hitting again.

You may have an F lock key on the top row somewhere too.

Hello, I was playing a Steam game last night and all of a sudden without warning the keyboard suddenly stops working.  At first I thought it was the game so I randomly clicked around and nothing worked. I was somehow able to exit the game but the keyboard has stopped working completely. Meaning the Capslock light doesn't turn on, the numlock light doens't turn on either. I have a Windows 8.1 just to let you know.  I have tried the following. 1. Going into control panel and turning off the filter keys and toggle keys. Didn't work. 2. Going into Device Manager and uninstalling the keyboard and re-installing. Didn't work. 3. Went into Registry and messed with the UpperFiler like they told me. Didn't work.  The only thing left is a factory reset then??  I had to buy a USB keyboard and it's pretty annoying.  I was wondering if I accidentally locked the keyboard?? I don't know what else is there.  Are there any other solutions? Please let me know. Thanks.

Answer:Lenovo Edge 15 here, keyboard suddenly stopped working

Hi BassFan ,

Welcome to the Community.

Well you have done the WIndows troubleshooting pretty well , both on registry and sticky keys.  External keyboard working , and may also be working with windows onscreen keyboard too.

I would hold up the factory reset for now, knowing that it would erase everything n your harddrive and that you would need to reinstall and download all your applications and games again.

Before you decide on that , best to check if that keyboard is physically broken or not.

Turn off the pc , use Novo button (page 7 of your manual ) to turn on , Try going to the BIOS and see if the arrow keys would work , time and date to test the number keys , security password for the letters ( just for testing, don't save password).
Just press the power button to turn off , and leave the BIOS or exit without saving on Exit tab .
If internal keyboard keys works on the BIOS then you can try system restore or even factory reset,
Loading BIOS Default can also refresh the settings . (exit tab choices or F9 load defaults / F10 to save and exit)

Your hardware manual can show step to reseat  keyboard if you a tech but if you have an active warrantythen best to use it .
Else check your warranty and call in tech support for repair.
Hope every goes well . Have us updated here too so that we can share it among the community.

I have a Medion 8083 desktop with wireless mouse and keyboard that I am about to sell/giveaway. I took all of my data off and put the PC to one side and then decided to double check that that I had left no personal stuff on it. I switched it back on and found that neither the wireless mouse or the wireless keyboard functions, despite working perfectly for the last seven years. Batteries in both have been replaced with brand new ones and the rollers in the mouse have been checked for fluff etc. Connecting WIRED mouse and keyboard and everything functions as it should. Connecting the wireless mouse up again -the wireless receiver blinks at every movement of the mouse but there is no movement of the cursor on the screen. Could this be the drivers? Any suggestions gratefully received as I do not wish to advertise something that it is not.

As the topic states the keyboard wasn't working when i was starting the laptop this morning. All the "Fn" commandoes such as turning on/off the backlight and changing brightness is working so the keyboard it self can't be broken. What i did was to download and install drivers for the tochpad restart the laptop and now it's working, BUT what causes this problem? I've seen other people with a similar problem, should i refund the computer? The driver i download was the tp147w8164. // Alex

Answer:y510p (3 days old) keyboard suddenly stopped working on startup.

Hi Alex,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I?m sorry to hear that the most of the Keyboard keys are not working in your Y510p Laptop, as the driver that you have downloaded and installed is for Touchpad, I suggest you to re-install the Keyboard driver from ?Device Manager?. Below are the steps to re-install the Keyboard driver:

1.     Press Winkey+R to open the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and select OK.
2.     Now right click on the device listed under ?Keyboards? and select ?Un-Install? option click OK.
3.     Then restart the computer and check if the issue persists.

Do post us back if the issue persists.

Best Regards

Shiva Kumar

Hi all, n00b to laptops and first post. Ok, I usually build and repair desktops, so much easier to gain aceess!!
My daughter switched on her A30 laptop last night and only 2 keys worked. Tried rebooting and getting into BIOS but couldnt. Tried getting it to boot into safe mode, only the up and down arrow working so could not select safe mode...doh. Am guessing this must be a harware problem.

Rebooted into Xp an opened up notepad....this time about 5 keys working. Reboot, 3 key etc etc.

How do I get to the ribbon cable to make sure it is seated properly. Is it common for a keyboard to fail in this way and is it easy to get a replacement?
At the mo, have all the small screws I can find out, removed battery, DVD rom and hard drive. Seems to be held towards the middle and rear. Dont want to force it and break something else!

TIA.

Answer:Satellite A30 keyboard suddenly stopped working - how to remove and replace?

OK, so I had to laugh....flip the little cover on the top of the laptop and there are the 2 screws that hold the keyboard in place....lol

The ribbon cable was just about in its connector. Pushed it in and engaged the two locking tabs on the plastic retainer...job done!
Put it back together, fired up and Bingo! we have a keyboard again!

Oh well, may help someone else I guess.
Now she has no excuse for not doing her homework!

I have a Toshiba Satellite L675. If you need specs please let me know. I will provide the basics.

500GB HD
4GB RAM
n Wireless Card
Intel HD Graphics
I3-350M Intel Processor (four listed in Device Manager so I assume it is quad core).

My problem is that when I am typing at my lovely speed of 80 wpm the information will lag on the screen at times. It does remember everything I type as I type during the lag, and it posts it correctly. I am curious if I may have tuned something incorrectly to cause this. I thought maybe spell checker, but I do not recall seeing one on the computer.

Any help with this matter is greatly appreciated.

Answer:While typing the letters on the screen lag...

Greetings, comperroruter.

Sounds like something's eating your resources - I'd suggest running CCleaner, click on Tools, Startup, save that page to a text file, and attach it here.

BTW: what OS and service pack # are you running? And, does the symptom change if you're online/offline?

Ok I have a Alienware M17XR2 laptop. I just installed windows 8.1 from a formatted start. Got most of the drivers functioning. I have an unknown device which I will address in another thread. Anyway my keyboard lags sometimes while I am typing fast. Never did that on my Windows 7. I'm running 64 bit as well. Any suggestions?

Answer:Typing Lag/Missed Letters

In my experiences laggy typing has been due to spyware or java intercepting my keystrokes for whatever reason.

Run spybot search and destroy, its free..

Boot your computer in safemode with networking, if no lag then its a program intercepting your keystrokes.

If still lag, you may have hardware problems, either keyboard or motherboard, possibly even video..

HELP!! EEverything I type shows up as doubled letters. lliikkee tthhiiss. I have adjusted my keyboard settings, but when I went back on the web it keeps doing it

Answer:double typing letters

There is no one fix that takes care of all of these.
A couple points:
- Make sure the battery in your keyboard is fresh (if it's wireless)
- If your keyboard and mouse are both wireless, make sure they both have good batteries.
- If they each run off separate dongles, and they are the same brand, try unplugging one dongle at a time and see if it helps or changes.
- there have been some machines (HP), that have had actual hardware problems with the keyboards.

Fixing this online could be unmanageable, or it may need a hardware expert.
It's always possible it's caused by some kind of malware related corruption, but I doubt it.
You could also try going into Control Panel > Keyboard and changing the settings for delay and repeat rate, etc. to see if it helps..
(That is probably what you meant by your "settings", so it's not likely to help).

My keyboard was acting up a few weeks ago (I thought), so I bought a new one, but still have same problem. Not all letters typed register. I have to type slow and hit a key somestimes 3-4 times before it registers. What could be causing this frustrating problem? Where should I investigate?

Answer:Missing letters when typing

I'm not 100% sure what is causing the problem, but the first place I would look is in the control panel. Double-click on the keyboard icon and try adjusting the settings.
