Satellite PRO A120 BIOS PASS. RESET BIOS RESPONSE CODE

Question: Satellite PRO A120 BIOS PASS. RESET BIOS RESPONSE CODE

Hello,
I have a Satellite Pro A120 laptop. Has long been asking me for a password when starting.

The BIOS password prompt:
ALERT: System protection failure!
Password =

I found somewhere that is the problem of the BIOS and should be updated. The Official ASP toshiba costs ? 67 plus shipping for resetting the BIOS. Somewhere I found that pressing CTRL, TAB, CTRL and ENTER Response Code asks.
The ASP can provide this code for free?

Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, a student of mine owns a compaq mini 110, CNU9312BR1, p/n NZ800EA#B1A and apparently is locked. But when I turn it on shows only <enter current password it doesn't give a lockout code so I can calculate withthe tool given in this forum the el****** reseting password. Anyway I tried writing the product name of the pc and the program gave me as a code : e9lof37pb3. When I try to enter this to the pc I notice that some keys are responding on the screen (showing a * when pressed and some not) is the keyboard broken also? or the mb perhaps? or is something else?

Answer:Compaq mini 110 bios lockout no code is given for reset pass...

Connect a USB keyboard to the mini notebook.  You can use it just as you can use the notebook's own keyboard. Press the power button and then when asked for the password, enter e9lof37pb3 and then press the enter key. e9lof37pb3 is the only system enable code for an HP mini.

Satellite Pro A120SE
HDD password is known - No problem there.
According to the Toshiba documentation the HDD password can be reset in the BIOS.

Following the instructions in the documentation, a new password is entered but a 'beep' is returned and it is clear that the password has not been changed.
A support call was placed approx. 2 months ago with the reseller who could not resolve the issue. The reseller contacted the Toshiba support helpdesk who told them that the HDD password reset should be possible and that they had no explanation or solution.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.
Many thanks

Is it possible to disable BIOS password on Pro A120 laptop?

I know the password, but I can't delete it. I tried both through Password Utility on Windows and through BIOS, and in both I can change the password, but not disable it (i get DELETION DENIED message).

Thanks in advance.

Of course its possible?
But you have to know the old, set password.

> I know the password, but I can't delete it.
First of all you have to type the old password.
Then in two further windows, you have to confirm with the ENTER button.
Then safe the changes and exit the BIOS.

Hello,

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120 and i need to update the bios cause of a cpu change.
The laptop working great but for some reason with the new cpu the fan is always running full.

I searched a lot but nothing found.
The Model No is PSAC1E-0QL04CG3 any ideas where i can find the bios ?

Thx in advance,
John

Answer:Satellite Pro A120: Need to update BIOS after CPU upgrade

Hi

First of all: BIOS update doesn?t help you.
Why do you think that BIOS update should help you to reduce the fan activity?

I assume your new CPU is faster. Right?
So it provides more performance and this leads to higher heat dissipation... so finally the CPU has to be cooled down and this can be done only if the cooling module would rotate faster? you agree with me?

By the way: the BIOS update can be found on Toshiba EU driver page. Since the Sat Pro A120 is very old series, you have to search for drivers in Archive area (Product Type -> Archive)

Hello

When I come back to the Windows XP OS, I could no more access the Bios (event the i press F1, F2 ) and the computer could not boot the windows XP SP2 CD too but it boots the windows XP 2001 CD

Any one could help me please

Answer:Satellite Pro A120 - Cannot access the BIOS and install the Win XP

Hi

To access the BIOS you can try to press the ESC and then the F1.
The Pro A120 was equipped with the Toshiba BIOS and therefore the ESC and F1 should functions.

To boot from the Win XP CD you can also press the F12 immediately after powering up the notebook. This will enable the boot menu on the screen and there you could choose the CD/DVD drive as a boot source!

I have a Satellite Pro with a system password, when I go to boot, I?m prompted for the password. I?ve been putting this off for over a year now, because the number 9 key was stuck to the ON position, so I couldn't even try to type a password.

Two days ago I fixed the keyboard. Now the system simply goes up to the point where it asks for a password but, I no longer know it, I?ve tried over 40 passwords I?ve used in my past.

So I?ve opened it up. Removed the battery overnight. no use. I?ve read up on this forum about the keydisk, parallel dongle. Don?t have floppy, or a parallel port. I?ve also read another post on this forum about a mark under the ram that needs to be grounded and I found no such thing.

can someone please help me? There must be a jumper on this motherboard as well.

The system is a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120

I have 240 Satellite A120 laptops to set up so I need to know an answer to this before I get too far into the project...
These laptops are to be used by school children and as such we do not want them having access to the BIOS.

The BIOS is ACPI Bios version 3.50. There are two boxes:
One says password and the other HDD password
I set the password but as the computers are put onto the school system using a bootable floppy disk, when I boot into Windows, the password box comes up. I thought that this was the password option to keep the children out of the bios but it would appear it stops them getting into Windows too but oddly the computer can reboot itself when it needs to for installations and the password prompt does not appear. It is not practical to put on software to control the BIOS so if anyone could give me some help with getting this set up, it would be most appreciated.

I phoned Toshiba but the help was not so good. I was told to turn the computer on and press Esc then F12 and follow the onscreen instructions - well last time I checked F1 was the way to access the BIOS?!

Thanks,
Catherine

Answer:How do i password protect the BIOS of Satellite A120?

Hi dear,

there should be a setting in the bios which is called "supervisor password" or similar. This password is only for protecting the bios against unauthorized access. But no password will be asked during startup.

If you don?t have this option in the bios, then try to make a biosupdate and then check again if the option is present after the update.

Would appreciate some feedback.

Hi all

I upgraded my OS from XP-Pro to Win7 Ultimate March 2010, no problem everything runs OK. Now as I need more space, I want to upgrade the hard drive from 40GB to 320GB.

I cannot get access to the bios to alter the boot system (e.g. boot from DVD), I can access the initial 4 menu screen when hte laptop boots but whichever icon I highlight (disks, DVD/CD/etc) the laptop just boots up Win7. I have tried using F12, DEL key, F2, etc; all of these will get to the select where I want to go to, but as I said earlier when I select one , the Laptop just boots up in Win7 from the hard drive.

My manual tells me to use the Toshiba HWSETUP to access the boot system, but his doesn't work on Win7 (90% of the tools CD don't work with/on Win7!)

I've downloaded new Win7 drivers for the Bios and other various bits, some have installed and others haven't. Most (incuding the BIOS updates) state that I am running a non recognised OS so won't install! How is Win7 a non recognised OS?

So my questions are;
1. how do I access the BIOS to set the boot system to boot from DVD/CD then the local disk?
2. is there there a fix for this problem? (Looking through the forum its not an uncommon one.)
3. can I ever get the BIOS/boot systems working properly?

Cheers
Dave

Answer:Satellite Pro A120 (PSAC1E-03Y010EN) no access to BIOS

hi,

> 1. how do I access the BIOS to set the boot system to boot from DVD/CD then the local disk?

Usually, you can access Bios pressing f2/f12 on startup but you have already tried it........ Try the next:

*Esc key method (Toshiba BIOS)*
Press and hold the Esc key.
Turn on the notebook.
Press the F1 key when prompted.
The first page of the BIOS Setup screen appears.
If you have utility called Toshiba hardware setup (starts in windows environment) where you can choose cd/dvdrom boot in boot priority option

Help,

I'm having problems getting my notebook to load the Windows operating system. My notebook (serial no X6062917H) was purchased in Nov 2006. I did recently upgrade the operating system to Windows Vista (Toshiba Promotion), and subsequently had to upgrade the Toshiba BIOS.

This was done via the Toshiba website opting for upgrade via Windows option. Since upgrading the BIOS I have only used this notebook two or three times and now I am unable to use it at all.

When I turn on the notebook now, all I face is a blank screen with the cursor arrow. The cursor does move about the screen as I move my finger across the touch pad.

I'd welcome any advice on getting my Notebook back up and running, My computer knowledge is extremely limited, so please make it as easy as possible

Many Thanks

Mr Gibbs

Answer:Satellite Pro A120 fails to load after BIOS and XP to Vista upgrade

It seems you use the Satellite Pro A120 which belongs to the PSAC1E series.

It seems the notebook can boot into the operating system because the arrow cursor appears on the display.

Did you try to connect the notebook to the external monitor to check if you can switch the display to another monitor?
It would be very interesting to know if it?s a graphic card issue or the internal display problem?

If you will be not able to see something on the second monitor I would recommend trying to install the OS again.
But if it will be not possible to reinstall the operating system you will have to contact the ASP (service provider) in your country for notebook check.

good luck

Hello,

It will not go any futher.

I have gotten into the bios and everything looks fine there, I can boot of a cd, but thats about it.
The hard disk spins up, but no booting.

ANy ideas PLEASE?

Answer:Satellite Pro A120 does not pass the POST

Hi

So you are able to access the BIOS.
Is the HDD recognized in BIOS? Can you see the HDD details?
If yes, then this would mean that the HDD is ok and BIOS can see it.

I have no idea why ?J? appears on the screen?
Did you see any other error messages or notifications?

You said that you can boot from CD. Did you check if you could boot the Linux Live disk?

This doesn?t require a installation on the HDD? theoretically you should be able to start the Linux distribution.

Hi!

My laptop does not pass self-test in the BIOS. Inscription "Toshiba Leading Inovation" does not disappear. So what to do?

The buttons are not active.

Answer:Satellite A300 does not pass BIOS self-test

Hi

That means your screen is completely black and you can see nothing? That?s strange but you can try this workaround:

-Try removing the battery and the AC adaptor
-Wait at least one hour or one night (no battery and AC adaptor should be connected)
-Connect battery and AC adaptor again
-Try to start the notebook as usual

If the same problem occurs you should contact an authorized service provider. It seems to be a hardware problem? :(

Well, I chose the boot as "legacy bios only" after receiving the x220. I did a clean install of Win7 ultimate 64bits (which means the setting soft provided by Lenovo does not work) and then updated the BIOS to 1.15. After all these, the machine runs mostly fine but I noticed that I could not log into the BIOS setup any more. Pressing F1\F2\F12\thinkVamtage when the bootup screen shows up (press thinkVantage bottom....), and nothing happens. It does not beep as it did before and does not respond to the buttom press. That means I could not choose bootup device either - it will log into Windows from HDD no matter how you tried to boot from other devices. Any ideas on the problem? And I guess resetting the BIOS might solve the problem, but how? Any help is appreciated.

Answer:Can not log into x220 BIOS? How to reset BIOS setting without entering BIOS setup?

Try turning the system completely off, then power it on and press F1.I've seen strange cases where pressing F1 doesn't work on a warm boot.  It always works on a cold boot.

Answer:Satellite A110-195 (PSAB0) does not response after BIOS update

Hello

Not damaged BIOS is basic requirement for notebook functionality. According to your description there must be some problem with BIOS itself. I can not say for sure that BIOS is damaged but if you have noticed error message everything is possible.

I am afraid your notebook must be checked by technicians. Using different diagnostic tools they can check if BIOS is damaged or not. Sorry but I do not believe you can do something alone.

Hi

Does anyone know how to access the greyed out areas in the BIOS, do you have a log in as a 'Master' or 'Supervisor' first? or something?

And does anyone know how to reset the BIOS so I can remove the password, and how to access the BIOS as a supervisor not just a user?

Cheers

Answer:Satellite L - How to reset BIOS?

Hello

I think the grayed out options in BIOS means that you are not logged in as supervisor. You have to enter the supervisor password and then you should be able to change these options.

And BIOS reset can only be done from an authorized service provider. Ask a technician for this. They can help you!!!

I googled on the internet and I already tried:

So the warranty is already elapsed so I opened the Notebook and disamblled it. It ain't possible to get the Bios battery out of his place without killing it, and I can't find any jumper or bios chip.
So has anyone please an idea how to fix this problem?

It is really stupid situation. Problem is that BIOS deleting procedure is not the same for all notebook models. All you tried is a kind of "standard procedure" but as you can see, it will not help you at all.

I am afraid you have just one solution: contact nearest authorized service provider and explain the situation. They can help you and remove the BIOS password. Try to convince service people to believe you that it is not your fault.

I wish you good luck and hope service guys will help you.

All help/remedies gratefully appreciated.

Answer:How do I reset CMOS/BIOS on Satellite L30-134?

This is not possible.
The whole passwords must be deleted before you will start with the BIOS update.
Sorry, but if you don?t know the password you cannot delete it and the BIOS update procedure will not work!

ASP in your country is a last possibility for password deleting. The guys are able to delete the password. It should be not very expensive.

Hi,

Is it possible to reset the BIOS password on my notebook Toshiba Satellite U400?

My friend have changed my password in BIOS. And unfortunately he has forgotten it.

Any ideas?

P.S.: I don't want to disassembly my notebook and clear CMOS settings by removing the CMOS battery...

Answer:Satellite U400 - Reset BIOS password

Hi!

The BIOS password can only be reset from an ASP.
Sorry but this is the only way.

On the Toshiba website you can search for an ASP:

Hi,

Does anyone know how to reset a BIOS password on a laptop - A65 - s1062? The laptop was bought in USA.
I've heard that on laptops, the password is usually stored in an eeprom on the motherboard,
and what I need is an eeprom programmer/eeprom reader.

Or maybe it's possible to fix it? I live in U.K. How much approx. may it cost?

Regards,
Aretai

Answer:Bios password reset on Satellite A65-S1062

Hi,
I had the same problem with a A60, but I don?t think that you can read that eeprom on that mainboard. Don?t do that, because I screwed my PCB with this procedure up. I think there is some other solution, maybe some short circuit of some pads but I don?t know it for sure, because I had to buy a new Mainboard, so there was no Password on it. :(
You have to remember: this is not a desktop board, it?s a notebook-mainboard and you won?t be able to put that eeprom (which is definetively not in a usual formfactor and not readable with a eepromprogrammer -> weird format) in a eeprom reader.

I think the best idea will be to give your rig to a service partner and they will delete the biospassword (hopefully without damaging your systempcb ;) ). I think this should be a secure way.

Greetings

Hi, guys.

I suddenly ended up having a bios password problem without having set one at all. I can?t seem to start up my A100-237 computer because it wants a password right after I?ve started it up.

Unfortunately I haven?t got the time to go to the nearest Service partner as it is 400km from here. Can anyone help me in solving the problem (I?ve read about KeyDisk, but I need a floppy to be able to use that and I simply donīt have one).

Maybe I can use some sort of bootable CD to reset the password or something else?

Thank?s in advance for your help!

Answer:How to reset BIOS password on Satellite A100-237?

No, no, no? you cannot do it yourself? the BIOS password is not easy to remove like on the desktop PC by removing the RTC battery.
Something like that is not possible on the Toshiba notebook and can damage the board.

The only way to remove the BIOS password is contacting the ASP in your country.
I think it?s a security option because before removing the BIOS password you have to show the bill or delivery note.

For me it?s not funny but it?s strange because BIOS password is not set on any of the new notebooks? the point is that BIOS password cannot be disabled or removed without knowing the old password.

What is the easiest way to reset the Boot/BIOS/CMOS password on a Satellite A15-S127? I have seen notes on creating a Parallel loopback, but I can't find technical notes on how to make one. Even if I do manage to make one will it work on this model?

I don't recall seeing "Clear CMOS" jumpers on the board and I have heard that pulling the CMOS battery out will not reset the password in the event you need to access the BIOS later.

Can anyone help?

Answer:How to reset the BIOS password on Satellite A15-S127

Hi,

I'm not sure about the A15, but as it is the american version of the A10, the reset method of the BIOS password should be the same. You need a special PCMCIA adapter. And the bad news: Only Toshiba service people have this adapter. So you have to go to a service partner.

Model: Satellite L50D-B-17J
Serial no.: YE031145C
So, a cousin of mine has somehow managed to put a BIOS password on her laptop, and then forgotten the password. Now, I've been asked to see if I can fix it.

First of all: this laptop, despite being relatively new, is essentially fix or trash, she's already got a new one. I have already opened it up, so the warranty has technically been voided already. All this means it doesn't matter too much if it breaks in the process of fixing it. They say they have contacted support and not really gotten a clear idea of what to actually do, and I'd prefer to not have to bother with support either (the site Support system isn't even working for me right now).

Long story short: Is there a way of resetting the BIOS password on this model? I understand that it's possible on a lot of laptops to do so by removing the CMOS battery. Now, this model does not have one (I have it opened and have not found one). Instead, I understand that newer models may have a circuit that can be shorted to possibly reset the BIOS? Is this correct, and if so, which circuit is it?

Once again, the laptop is pretty much forfeit anyways, so if at all possible, I'd take the chance of doing it myself, if it's at all a possibility.

Answer:Satellite L50D-B - Bios Password Reset

Well the circuits in question would be the JCMOS1 jumpers normally located under the RAM. Bridge them while the power is off first. If that doesn't work then post to screen by taking out the battery and lead, hold the power button for 10-15 seconds, then hold Fn+ESC, while holding this down plug in the power lead and turn on the device. When the fan starts up release Fn+ESC. If you see a post screen then bridge JCMOS1 jumper then and that should reset the BIOS. Unplug the device and hold down the power button for 1 minute and then plug it back in again. It should start up with out prompting for a password. If you could not get it to post then refer to the user manual to see what it's flashing procedure is. The buttons needed for a flashing procedure will be the same to make it post. Only bridge the JCMOS1 jumper while the machine is on if you see the post screen, no other time. An easy way to bridge them would be to use a paper clip and bend it out and use either end of it.

Hi to all,

unfortunately (but "strangely" most of all!) my Toshiba Satellite a350d-20k PSALME-01D00RIT does not recognize the BIOS password anymore. It is just the same password ever. I have been using it since 9 months each time in order to let the laptop boot.

However, it is a couple of days since it decided by itself that now that password is wrong. After trying and trying, I finally decided to put the hard disk into another computer as external drive in order to go on with my job... but here it came the panic: none of the computers I've been trying is actually able to read the data on the disk!

After spending a while frozen in panic, I got back to myself and start asking around to figure out the problem. Someone said the fact of the wrong BIOS password has something to do with the fact that I cannot read my disk outside of that laptop: you know, it is some kind of security mean.

However, the only thing it cares to me is that at the same time I cannot use my laptop and I cannot use my data outside my laptop.

So, my questions are:
1) does that laptop model have such kind of BIOS-password-protection affecting also my disk?
2) will the reset of the BIOS password solve the problem?
3) how to reset the BIOS password anyway?
4) how to get back reading my data on that hard drive?

Waiting for any feedback.
Thanks a lot !
Regards.

Answer:How to remove/reset BIOS password on my Satellite A350D?

Hello,

Its not probable that the BIOS password has anything to do with the Data in the hard disk.
When you say: "none of the computers I've been trying is actually able to read the data on the disk!"
What do you mean exactly? You cannot view the partitions in the disk at all? Or you mean that you get an error message when you try to view files in specific folders like "My Documents"? An error message can be caused by encryption that Windows use to protect private data in sensitive user folders.

Cheers

Hey guys

on my Toshiba Satellite A210 I have a BIOS password, which i have no clue what it may be. One day when I turned on my laptop, it came up with a blank black screen with a blue rectangle in the middle saying "Enter Password". I tried entering my Windows Login password, but this didn't work.

After 3 times of trying password the laptop will switch itself off. No one in my house uses my pc, and even if they did they wouldn't know how to do something like this anyway. Also, i have seen on other forums that this has happened to people for no reason.

One other thing, I would try one of the BIOS reset programs like KeyDisk or CmosPWD but if I put a CD, DVD, USB Flash Drive, etc, in my pc and press F12 for boot menu, nothing happens so I can't do that!

Plz help, I cant use my PC and i am currently on my sisters pc!!!

Hello everyone!

About 2 years ago i bought my Satellite L50-B-1K3 and it worked perfectly fine until today.
I was using my computer on battery as normal and suddenly it turned off completely, with no notification - like you would remove power cable of standard PC from wall plug (immediately)...
I tried to turn it back on, but nothing happened. Then i removed battery and performed BIOS reset (holding power button down for 30 sec with battery and psu disconnected) and than i plugged in only PSU and booted my PC. I was able to log in to my OS and use computer for a few minutes... then it turned off again, no warning... i tried to turn it back on, but nothing happened until i made another BIOS reset... Then I entered BIOS and waited a few minutes in the main menu of BIOS and computer also turned off...

I have no idea what else to try... Did anybody have the same issues or any kind of idea, what could be wrong?

Thank you for your help!!

So you have to contact the authorized Toshiba service provider in your country and only these guys are able to remove the BIOS password which you have forgotten.

Ok...Found a way around.  Phyically removed the SSD and I can once again enter the BIOS and boot off USB and the CD. Rapid Drive was competely incompatible with software I need to run, so was attempting to install a clean copy of Windows and to boot only off the hard drive.  In doing so, I removed the SSD from the Boot list in the BIOS.  After doing so, the system became incapable of booting off of any media.  When I press F2 during post, I just get "Please Wait..."   Pressing F12 just locks up on the logo screen.  Does the system not work when the SSD is removed from the bootable devices in BIOS?  How can I reset my fancy new brick?

I downloaded "sln0v190.exe" (Phoenix WinPhlash 64) and extracted to a folder and then selected to run the BIOS flash routine.

I get the following error:
"Failed to retrieve system bios information.
BCPSYS block signature not found
Error Code -100"

As I can not read - and save - the old corrupted BIOS I can not flash the new BIOS!

Any ideas please?

Hi buddy,

Do you update the BIOS with administrator account?
Have you disabled the security software on your computer?
Is Toshiba Value Added Package installed?
What operating system do you use?

But may I ask you why you want to update the BIOS? Do you have any problems with the computer? If not I wouldn?t do this update. As you probably know never touch a running system ;)

So I updated my Satellite A200-AH6 PSAE0C notebook (Bios and Graphic update) after installing Toshiba Power Saver, but every so often now, if I have to do a restart, there is a black screen on reboot with some info on my BIOS and some warnings/failed things.

Also, when it comes back, again, every so often, my date/time get reset to December 2004, 12:00 a.m.

Any suggestions?

Answer:Satellite A200-AH6 PSAE0C: BIOS Update issue - Date & Time Reset

Hmm... that?s strange... maybe you should try to update the BIOS again. I?m not quite sure if this will be possible if BIOS was already updated to the newest version but it worth a try.
Furthermore you should access the BIOS and should set it to default settings and should save the settings.

Cheers

I have a Satellite Pro A.120 I'm trying to load my Creative Zen Sleek MP3 on to it but keep getting a Code 19 Registry is corrupt message in Device Manager. How do I fix this

Answer:Satellite Pro A120: corrupt registry - error code 19 in Device Manager

Hi

After a short investigation in the Microsoft knowledge base I found this full description of Error Code 19:

---------------------------------

Code 19:
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged.
To fix this problem you can first try running a Troubleshooting Wizard.
If that does not work, you should uninstall and then reinstall the hardware device.

This can occur when more than one service is defined for a device, if there is a failure opening the service subkey, or if the driver name cannot be obtained from the service subkey. Try these options:

On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard. Click Uninstall, and then click Scan for hardware changes to load a usable driver. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, and then select Last Known Good Configuration. This rolls back to the most recent successful registry configuration.

--------------------------------------------

Hopefully this steps will help you!

It has advised me to update the Bios Driver - which I have downloaded to my Desktop.

I have checked and there is only one user on the laptop - Sue and I am also the administrator.

Please advise what I should do. many thanks

Hi.

My Sat M30 laptop start with an bios error. The error says "Resource conflict, edit bios setting or boot" If select "boot" computer hangs before windows completely starts. I remove the wi-fi and the modem module and the same error appears. I can't upgrade the bios because the windows don't start. The bios version is 1.7. The laptop is UK version. If select "edit bios", bios start but I can't find any resource management.

Thanks

(sorry for my english, I am from Spain)

Answer:Satellite Pro M30 Bios error Resource conflict - Edit bios setting or boot

Hi

I think the error ?edit bios setting? means that you should access the BIOS and should set the BIOS back to the default settings.

Please do this, save the settings and try to boot up!

Whilst updating the BIOS the system froze at step 7 of replacing the BIOS code, needless to say the laptop will not boot as the BIOS is now corrupt.

I have the BIOS.BAK but need advice on how to restore the BIOS. I copied the BIOS.BAK to a usb stick and plugged this into the laptop and then powered on the system (I've tried holding down F, F2 and together). I can see that the usb stick flickers initially but clearly does not progress with the restore.

I hope someone might be able to advise how to use the BIOS.BAK file to restore the BIOS.

Well, I have used the BIOS updater listed on the drivers/bios updates section of Toshiba website, on Windows vista x64 and offcourse I have used the x64 executable.
Strangely, when I reboot it, it requests a bios password that I have never inserted. So I suppose the update inserted a password automatically. Now I can't boot from any device so I cant use the laptop.

What do you have to say about this?

Answer:After Vista x64 BIOS update Satellite A200-1KB PSAE6 requests BIOS password

Hello MC

Have you founded some answers? Nobody offered here real explanation what can be wrong there. Have you maybe contacted authorized service partner in your country. They have contact with Toshiba and I am pretty sure they can help you about that.

If you will find out something regarding this password issue please let us know.

Hi All ! Excuse my poor english because i'm french.

A friend gives me his Notebook (a Satellite 4090CDS exactly) because he had a probleme.
In fact, the problem is that when I switch on the computer, i have one and only one message(not even the red toshiba logo) which is "Ready for BIOS update. Place the BIOS update diskette in the drive, and press any key when ready to proceed."

So I go on french toshiba website, in the BIOS download, i find that i have to download this update: http://support.toshiba-tro.de/tools/bios/satellite/4030-4060-100/bios_820.zip

Ok, i download and unzip it to a diskette and i boot the notebook with the disjette, it said that the update was made successfully and automatically reboot.
This time, the red toshiba logo appears, but next i have a black screen with a message:

**** Bad check sum (CMOS) ****
Check system. Then press [F1] key.

And after that, i can't do anything, not even press F1. If i reboot the notebook, i meet myself one more time with the first message "Ready for BIOS update..." and it is still and still the same.

If anyone could help me to understand what is the problem, it would be very nice.
Thanks.

Bastien.

Answer:Satellite 4090 BIOS issue - "Ready for BIOS update..." message appears

It sounds as if your CMOS chip has a problem. It?s possible that the CMOS battery has failed and your BIOS settings are being lost.
Maybe the RTC battery is empty. In this case you should plug the AC adaptor to charge the RTC battery.
Please note that the RTC battery (CMOS battery) will charge after the notebook main battery was fully charged. In this case the charging procedure could take several hours.

But if after this long charging procedure this message appears again so I assume the battery is dead.
I suggest you contact your nearest ASP to get your notebook checked.

Hello

My last BIOS update has failed and now my laptop Satellite PrU400 PSU45E is out of order.
I want to use the Crisis Recovery Disk with an USB floppy drive but I don't know the key combination to run the boot-block.
Is anybody can help me?

Best regards

Answer:Satellite Pro U400 BIOS update failed - What is BIOS Boot-block access

Hi

I wondering what Crisis Recovery Disk do you have ?:|
In my experience the special disk is needed which is available only for ASP technician.
Therefore it?s necessary to contact the ASP in your country in order to reflash the BIOS.

In my opinion you shouldn?t not try any ?Crisis Recovery disks? which you fond in the net? this can lead to mobo damage?
