Preferred Solution: Satellite Pro A120-160 SD card reader SDHC compatible?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite Pro A120-160 SD card reader SDHC compatible?

As far as I know the Satellite A120 supports SD cards up to 1GB.
So SDHC cards are not compatible.

If you want to read SDHC cards on your notebook, you need an external card reader (USB).

I recently bought a Digital Concepts 21-in-1 Card Reader/Writer; however, I don't see the SDHC designation shown on the package. The only SD cards listed are: SD; SD-Ultra; SDC; and Mini SD. Will this reader read an SDHC card as well? Thank you.

Hi everyone,

i bought a Toshiba Satellite A300-1MX back in October 2008, and now i wanted to buy an SDHC card, but I was wondering whether my laptop would support this "new"-ish card. The reason I want an SDHC is because it comes in bigger volumes.

So do you know if my laptop can read SDHC cards?

Thanks so much,

My satelite A100 does not support my sandisk 4 GB SDHC card.
"normal" SD cards are not a problem with the internal card reader, and there are no problems with the sandisk 4 GB SDHC card using a external card reader.

is there a software solution?

Answer:My Satellite A100 does not support SDHC cards with the internal card reader

I do not have time to read users manuals for your notebook model but all supported cards can be listed there. I suppose SDHC is not listed and not supported.

I do not know what you mean with software solution but, as far as I know, update for multimedia card reader is not available.

I have a Satellite Pro A120 and use the SD card slot frequently, however, the memory capacity of the cards can occasionally be restrictive, is it possible to upgrade the firmware to accomodate SDHC cards and if so how.

Answer:Can the firmware on my Satellite Pro A120 be upgraded to accept SDHC cards

unfortunately it?s not possible since the card reader has NO firmware and it?s a standalone device which has nothing to do with the BIOS (firmware) of the machine.

So, if it does not support it simply does not support it. :/

Answer:Hp Envy 17 touchscreen SDHC Card reader do not read card in ...

@YoannFromParis, Hello and thanks for posting on the HP support forums.  When dealing with the issues from doing an update to Windows 10 there are a few things that may work to fix the issue. First thing to try is running the Windows Update Troubleshooter. The next step is to run the HP BIOS recovery to reload the BIOS to see if it will sync up with the operating system. HP Notebook PCs - Restoring the BIOS And if this fails to fix the problem, if you did the update to Windows 10 you can do the stand alone installation to see if it fixes any conflict. Download Windows 10 The other option is to roll back to the previous operating system until new updates get released by Microsoft and then uploaded on the HP support page for your notebook. Please let me know how things go.  Thanks again for posting and have a great day.

I downloaded the drivers from Acer website for XP card reader and still nothing. I know the card reader is capable of reading the SDHC card, because it was working with Windows Vista. I tried everything and still nothing. Anyone have an idea or suggestion.

Maybe if you told us the make and model of your card reader and whether it is internal or external, instead of putting all your question in the title and just a sad smiley where the information should be, you might get an answer.

Hi, I recently bought a T430s and when I tried to insert a SD card it did not show up in my computer. I've tried 3 different SD cards the sizes are16 gb, 32 gb and 2 gb and neither of them shows up, to make sure the problem is not in the SD card I tried using the SD cards in 2 cameras and 2 other laptops. In all those devices the cards works.I have tried installing these drivers from this thread but it did not work. I also tried following the instructions in this thread but that did not help either.According to the device manager the Ricoh PCIe SDXC/MMC Host Controller is working correctly. The Ricoh SD Disk Device is also working correctly. Whenever I insert the SD card the Sound for a new device plays and when i remove the SD card the removal sound plays. How can I fix this? I'm going away for 7 weeks with my laptop so I need to fix it ASAP and I dont have time to send the laptop to Lenovo. EDIT:I uninstalled Ricoh Media driver and now 1 of the cards show up but Windows complains about that it needs to be formatted, but the size is 0 so that doesn't work either. Tried installing the driver again and now they show up in the device manager again and proudly says that they are working but the SD card still doesn't show up so I can read the files on it. ... Answer:T430s SDHC card reader not working

I'm experiencing a similar situation with my 1-year old T430s. The built-in card reader was working fine until recently when it stopped working.
Now the built-in SD card reader doesn't recognize SD cards that are recognized in external USB adapters.
Device Manager shows Ricoh PCIe SDXC/MMC Controller when an SD card is inserted into the card reader but neither Windows Computer Management/Disk Management nor Windows Explorer show the drive. Device Manager indicates that the driver is up-to-date (v6.10.10.32 25May11.)
When I put the same SD cards into an external USB adapter they're recognized by Windows, assigned a drive letter and visible to Windows Explorer as well as other applications.
Do I have a defective card reader?

Hi,Just received my brand new Sandisk Extreme 45MB/s 16GB SDHC card from Amazon.New card works fine in my cameras and also can be read fine from X121e IF I use an external USB SHDC card reader. However, when I plug the SDHC card into the built in reader then nothing happens - nothing detected, no additional drive letter etc. If I plug other 8GB or 16GB SDHC cards into the built in reader then they work fine. Have tried several. Have checked the new SDHC card with the h2testw utility and it reports fine. This new SDHC card was bought from Amazon direct - NOT a marketplace reseller etc... I just inherited a Dell E6520 laptop that has had a fresh install of Win 7 Pro 64 bit put on it. All of the available updates through Microsoft Update have been done to date, and the drivers available for my service tag have been downloaded and installed from the Dell support site.

The only remaining problem I am having is with the on board SDHC card reader. I have a SanDisk 16GB SDHC card that the on board reader completely ignores. The reader works perfectly with a 4GB SDHC card. Both cards are formatted with a FAT32 file system.

The 16GB card works fine in an external USB reader, and it works fine in the on-board reader in my HP 6730B running Win 7 Pro 32 bit OS.

Any thoughts or ideas are welcome.

Answer:Dell E6520 SDHC reader can see 4GB card but not a 16GB

Dell has a memory card reader driver, listed with the various chipset drivers. Suggest you install the chipset drivers and the memory card reader and see if that helps.

However, some card readers on Dell's will not read high capacity memory cards, although this is new enough that it should.

Well, it can if there is media in it. Go into the BIOS and change the boot order such that the USB boot is below other devices. DVD, then HD and it should not affect it.

Well yeah, the problem is in the title. It's a 7764 with the standard SD/MMC reader. I had Vista Ultimate and tried to fix the issue for some time (changing drivers, installing MS hotfixes), but it didn't help, so I thought the last chance would be with Win 7.Now I have Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit and the issue stayed the same. After the card is inserted (in my case it's a SanDisk Extreme III 16GB class 6 SDHC, but I've read that other people with 16GB cards had the same problem), the system doesn't react in any way. Actually in Vista sometimes the Safely Remove Hardware icon appeared for a second just after inserting the card then disappeared, in Win 7 there's no reaction whatsoever). Tried to force the system to see the card, scan for hardware changes, refresh etc, no result. Any ideas? It's one of the best cards on the market, and definitely not some no-name, so why won't my X61 see it? It's supposed to be SDHC compatible (and reads my 8GB SDHC fine). Thanks!

Answer:SD card reader won't recognize 16GB SDHC cards (or bigger probably)

I had a similar problem with a card reader on a different laptop. I contacted TI (Texas Instruments - the card reader maker) and they indicated there was a limit on the card reader (actually the driver) and it would not read larger cards. The only way you will probably make it work is to get a driver update for the card reader that will read 16gig cards.

I have a Lenovo G780 laptop, and have had it for over a year, until 2 weeks back, everything was working fine. I started to have problems with the headphone jack where sound only came out of right ear.  Stereo Speakers were working fine. I made sure to go into Sound> Playback devices to make sure the Conexant Smart Audio was working right and the sound to L and R were balanced. I reinstalled the drivers (or what I found) and still it did not help. Now, a few days ago, the headphone jack stopped working completely (speakers still work). I retored my laptop to an earlier restor point (a month back when everything was working fine) and still no effect. Today when I tried to use the built in SD card reader, that I had used many times before, the card  reader would not detect it. I tried other Cards and they did not work either. I tried re installing the realtek drivers and got no effect. In device manager, whenever i insert the card, the wind refreshes, but nothing shows up in My Computer.I take good car of not laptop and there is no visible damage to any part of the laptop. I suspect the board inside is somehow damaged because the jack and card reader are located within a few mm of eachother. I have not yet tried factory restore, but all restore points do not fix the issue.

Answer:G780 Windows 7 SD/SDHC card reader and Headphone jack not working

I got the headphones to the previous state somehow where sound comes out of right ear, but that's it.

I have a Lenovo IdeaCentre, purchased only four weeks ago.  It product family is IdeaCentre k410, machine type 10089.  Anyhow, the problem is: I inserted a microSD / microSDHC, both of which seem to fit into the slot fine, though neither registers under anywhere in windows explorer, neither in the root of C://, nor in any of the subdirectories, or on the main listing of mounted file systems.  I used the Lenovo Driver Updater and re-installed the SD Card Reader driver, to no avail.  Any help would greatly be appreciated.  As well, the computer runs Windows 8, which has some features I'm unhappy with, and although this is not a windows forum and I don't mean to create a thread that deviates from lenovo-specific topics, I was wondering if there is anything in either the machine architecture or the software of Windows 8 that could hinder m in installing a dual-boot system so that I might have the option of running a variant of linux as a sub-operating system, as I did with windows XP.?????  OK any help at all would be so greatly appreciated, thank in advance.  I really want to be able to retrieve some writing files I have stored in that micro SDHC card.  As another aside, does anyone know the max limit of RAM this computer can take and if it is DDR or some other type?

Answer:SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC/MS/MS Pro card-reader slot not showing up in windows explorer.

hi BrokenHalo,
Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
Regarding your questions:
1. When you inserted the SD card, do you hear a sound that a device is inserted and under Device Manger, do you see a Card Reader?
If not, try to:
a. boot intto the BIOS by pressing F1, load defaults by pressing F9 then press F10 to save and exit BIOS.
b. Reseat the front panel connectors (see page 23 of the hardware maintenance manual)
2. To install linux (i.e. Ubuntu), see if you can install Ubuntu via UEFI. If you're unable to do so or if you want to install other OS, try to:
a. Boot into the BIOS by pressing F2 and set the following settings below
UEFI Boot Mode = Legacy
Secure Boot = Disabled  (if applicable)
CSM = Disabled /  Legacy or Other OS (if applicable)
OS Optimized Default = Disabled or Legacy (if applicable)
b. When finished, press F10 to save and exit BIOS then try to install Ubuntu via Wubi or insert your Windows installation disc to install a different OS.
3. As per this pdf data sheet, the Lenovo K410 has a max RAM of 8GB PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3  but Crucial reports that this unit can take up to 16GB PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3 - check this site.
Hope this helps

Nowhere in the documentation, web site is any info about what kind of controller and hence what size SD cards this model is supporting.Even Lenovo tech support doesn't know that info!I am really hesitant to buy a SDXC card of +32GB only to find out it supports on SDHC cards, thus limited to 32GB... thanks for any useful info, Ralf

Answer:What kind of SD card controller is in a Lenovo IdeaPad 120S-11AIP? SDHC or SDXC compatible?

Hi ITWorxLA,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
As per system overview :
IO port: Memory card slot (SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC)
Platform specification:
One microSD Card slot, supports up to 2TB
Usually there would be stickers on the box or laptop to indicate the format it also supports.
You can try to find/borrow  a spare 32GB SDXC to test first before purchase.
Hope this helps answer your query.

Whenever I insert an SD card into my Satellite Pro A120 Windows does nothing, nothing changes, it's as if I didn't plug it in.

I've found that if I reinstall the SD card driver whilst the card is plugged in then it will be detected, but windows will not detect when it's then unplugged, and it won't be detected at all on next boot. Basically it looks like the laptop can't tell when it's being plugged in or being taken out.

All the correct drivers are installed, and I'm using Windows XP Home.

Anyone had the same problem/got any ideas?

Answer:Satellite Pro A120: SD card cannot be detected

Hi all, 1st post so apologies if this is in the wrong place.

I'm new to world of laptops, and I#'ve just purchaased a A120-151, with a view to replacing my desktop, but I've heard nasty stories that you can't upgrade the graphics cards in laptops.

As a gamer this comes as a bit of a shock. Can someone please enlighten me, and it if it is possible to upgrade, could someone recommend an option for me that would be in the same range as my desktop's nVidia geforce FX 5200...

Answer:Graphics card upgrade on Satellite A120

Hi Alan

Usually if you want to buy something new you should pick up some info about it at first. This ?nasty stories? are just facts and nothing unusual for mobile computing. Unusual is that your local dealer did not ask you for which purposes you need notebook.

Why you did not post something about laptops and gaming before you have bought your Satellite?

don't know if you can help me on this one, i have more or less the same problem.
Bit long winded but we were rececently broken in to, very clever thieves, stole a number of item along with my computer bag with Toshiba disks. (LOL) the lap top was next to the bag on the desk, they left it.

Since then contracted a virus which meant i had to fully format the hard drive and installed XP.

Not a problem but now i can not find the right audio drivers. Q. How do i identify the sound card on the lap top?

Answer:Satellite Pro A120 - How to identify the sound card

You don?t know what sound chip your notebook has?
On the Toshiba European page you could find drivers for this notebook model.
I can see that the Realtek sound card driver has been published and therefore I?m 100% sure that the sound chip has been manufactured by Realtek.

OK i have a problem with my Satellite Pro A120's (xp service pack 2) cardbus.

I use the cardbus slot to add firewire conections via a IEEE 1394 cardbus card and have been doing this a long time. The other night my comp went into hibernate with the card still in the slot and still in use and when i tried to use it the next day the card was not working at all.
So i thought the had died on me and brought another one, this one to be exact [] .

When i plug the new card into the slot windows starts the installation add new hardware thing but does not find the driver, there is none on the provided CD and it does not conect to windows update to find one ethier. So the new card does not work and does not get installed, it just shows up with ! next to pci device.

I have looked everywhere on the internet to find the driver, read the manual etc.I even did a fresh install of windows so it might find the drivers but nope.
The only thing i can think of is the slot does not except 32 bit cardbus but in my manual it says this:

"The computer is equipted with a pc card slot that can accomedate a type II card. Any pc card that meets industry standards can be installed. The slot supports 16 bit pc cards, including pc cards 16 multifunction card and cardbus pc cards. Cardbus supports a new standard of 32 bit pc cards."

Any help please

I recently bought an A305D-S6851 with Vista and downgraded to XP.
Everything works fine and it's great, but recently I wanted to use the memory card slot and load my 4GB SDHC memory card, but I put it in and nothing happens.
I have the drivers for the slot installed properly, and after searching the forums I found out I need an XP hotfix - KB934428. I installed it and it didn't solve the problem, and then I saw another post saying KB923293 sorted this out. Once again, installed and nothing.

So I'm in a bit of a dead end here. Drivers? Check. Hotfixes? Check.
I actually doubt it's a laptop issue because I've been going through the same problem-solving process on a desktop computer with a USB card reader and it also can't read the card.
On the other hand it's not the card because before I moved to XP on the laptop I managed to access it with the slot with any problem.

Thanks in advance!

Hello, I have a toshiba satellite A200-23K.
I just installed Windows 7, ALL drivers from toshiba driver support and all microsoft windows updates, including the 32 GB suport for SD flash memory cards.

But the in the device manager there was a item named " Mass Storage Controller " witch was not installed (that would be SD card reader) but I didn't saw any driver for " Texas Instruments PCIxx12 Integrated FlashMedia Controller " and installed VISTA driver instead. Now the device look's fine in device manager but it only read a normal SD card, and when I insert a 4GB SDHC it happend nothing. In windows XP / vista and linux (fedora / ubuntu) there is no problem with SDHC (4GB and 8GB Kingmax SDHC class 6).

I would greatly apreciate in advance if someone will make a driver for the card reader (i'm using it pretty mutch for photos).

I think the problem is the outdated Vista driver that doesn?t work 100% properly on Windows 7?

As far as I know Satellite A300 that supports Windows 7, is also equipped with Texas Instruments card reader or at least the driver is also from the same company as for Satellite A200.

In your case I would try this driver, I hope it works! :)

I have had a Satellite Pro A200 installed with Windows XP, SP2 for some time - No problems there, a great piece of kit. However I recently have bought a new camera and splashed out on a Kingston 4Gb SDHC card. The manual for my A200 seemes to indicate that it my laptop is compatible with SDHC cards to 4Gb however when I push the card in the LED flashes blue briefly and then nothing happens. My SDHC card does not appear to be recognised by the system.

I see no errors in my OS event log and I have checked the slots operation by trying an older 512Mb SD card and that works fine.

Can anybody offer any help please?

For reference this laptop is a Model PSAE4E A200.

Many Thanks in advance

I have a Z830 Satellite with the SD card reader.

The spec sheets says it reads SDHC cards, so I purchased a Transcend 32Gb SDHC card for putting all my music on. When I plug it into the SD card reader of the laptop it doesn't do anything - nothing shows in Windows Explorer or in Disk Management. It's like the reader doesn't even know there is a card inserted.

However, if I put the card into a USB SD card reader and plug it into the USB port, the machine sees the card just fine. I can copy files to/from it. Is this a driver issue, or is this hardware related?

First of all I have checked your user manual of Satellite P200 and it supports the following SD card types:

If you use such supported cards I would try updating the card reader driver. You can try the Flash Media Driver for Vista that you can get on the official Toshiba page.

I got an 8gb micro sdHC card filled up using the adapter, with music, which plays fine.

Before I received this cheap us>microSD adapter I asked the seller if it read HC cards. They said no. It's just a cheap chinese adapter on ebay so there isn't much info on it at all. It's write up didn't say anything about HC capabilities.

Like I mentioned, I was able to use it to load up an 8gb sdHC card.

Does this mean that it will probably also work with a 32gb sdHC card? Is there a size limit that the 8gb card didn't exceed?

If yes, I'd like to buy more now because I don't think these will hold up to much use.

Answer:Can My Usb>microsd Adapter Read Sdhc If It Fills An 8gb Sdhc Card? Seller Says It Won't.

I found the same item elsewhere on ebay which mentions that it recognizes up to 32gb, which is what I needed.

So....I suppose there are quite a few adapters out there labelled only SD but will in fact read up to at least 32 SDHC cards.

I think going over 32gb cards might require additional capabilities.

I have switched on Vista ReadyBoost using a pretty old SD card of only 256MB in the built-in card-reader of the notebook. It is kind of speeding up the system so I plan to buy a big size high speed SD-Card to use it for Vista ReadyBoost in order to gain full value of this functionality.

However, SD-Cards of 4GB (mostly) or more than 4GB (all) are not just SD but SDHC cards.

Officially the internal 6-in-1 Bridge Media Adapter of my Notebook is specified to deal with "SD Card, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, MultiMedia Card, xD-Picture Card, SD IO". So I am wondering, if the card reader will support SDHC cards as well. If it wont support SDHC, it would be intersesting if at least (standard) SD cards of 4GB are supported.

Any help is highly appreciated!

I have bought a used Toshiba U400-10A and am in the process of a clean in stall of Vista 64.

When I bought this notebook there was preinstalled Vista 32bit and as usual some Toshiba's drivers and software. As I remeber there was no problems with built in memory card reader, it was reading regular SD cards and also SDHC.

One day I had to reinstall operating system (without using recovery disc) and i've downloaded drivers for my notebook from official site, installed them and the card reader now it's not able to read SDHC cards. Is it just me?

This is what I installed for reader:

-Toshiba Value Added Package where is TOSHIBA Flash Cards inside of it
-Flashmedia Driver
-SD Utilities

I just want to highlight that there's no problem with reading mmc or normal sd cards.
My sdhc card is 100% working properly with other card readers.
Another sdhc card that I have is not working, it's just like I put nothing inside the reader.

Just nothing happens.
Is there anything else that I missed and this is the reason of my problem?

Any fix for Vista or something like that?

Answer:SDHC card does nor work on Satellite A200-1J0 with a clean Vista install

You problem with the SD cards are related definitely to the software? I think your drivers/utilities are installed not correctly (in wrong order) or you Vista miss something.

Maybe you don?t know what important thing;
It?s very important to install the driver (no matter what drivers; XP or Vista) in the right order.
Mostly an installation instruction is placed on the Toshiba European driver page which contains the essential installation order.

As I?m not mistaken the A200-1J0 belongs to the PSAE6E series and you should choose this series firstly to get all compatible drivers for you series.

By the way;

The Flash Media Driver is a driver for Bridge Media Slot. This slot lets you insert either a SD card, Memory Stick (Pro) or xD picture card.
The SD Utilities contains the SD Memory Card Format Utility and other SD functions like SD Memory Utility.

These three applications are very important to use the SD cards.

Hello, I'm not sure if this question belongs here or in the Mac section, but hopefully I can be steered in the right direction...

I just purchased a Kingston Media Reader (FCR-HS3) to transfer files from my camera to my PC. However, It did not occur to me before buying to check if the reader might also work with my wife's Macbook. The packaging only indicates Windows XP/Vista/7 , but I read a few product reviews suggesting that it does (they did not definitively say so).

Will it actually work with both PC and Mac?

I bought the Reader on-line, so to save the hassle of mailing it back, I thought I might be able to check here first, instead of opening it, testing it, and then having to send it back.

Thanks very much for your time!

Question: SDHC reader issues

First, I'm not looking for help with my tablet problem, but this preface is to provide background information. I'd seen many USB card readers advertised, and I ordered the SanDisk MicroMate (a SDHC device), thinking I could connect this to my android tablet and quickly have additional (using a new 8GB SDHC card) storage for reading and writing. When the connection was made, however, the message was "Blank USB storage; USB storage blank or has unsupported format" I offer this to indicate that the reader does seem operational. The card couldn't be accessed using the tab's file managers.

In an attempt to figure out the problem, I tried using it on my two Windows PCs (both Win 7-64b computers, a desktop and a laptop) and found what are to me confusing results:
1. If I insert the new 8 GB SDHC card into the internal card reader of either of my computers, it is immediately accessible. I was able to copy a file to it. Format is FAT32.

2. If I connect the reader to a powered USB port on either computer, the reader device is shown with no errors in Device Manager, but when the card is inserted into the reader, the error "the drive must be formatted" appears.

Thanks in advance for any insights!

Did you install a generic version of Windows? You need to install the AMD chipset driver first, so other PCI devices can install properly.

What is the size capacity of the SD Card?
Are you running XP? You may need to install Service Pack 3, or a Microsoft hotfix for SDHC support.

Notebook Satellite U200-165, Win XP home,

Answer:Satellite U200-165: Card reader don't read MMC cards but reads SD card

What do you mean exactly by ?MMC card doesn?t work??
What is card reader status in device manager?

I checked the user manual (can be downloaded from the Toshiba page) and it says the MMC cards are definitely supported.
I think this must be a software issue.

In your case I would recommend updating the Win XP to the latest state and to reinstall the Flash Media Driver and SD Secure Module again?

There is some trouble with the builtin card reader in my A300-1NO. If I put an SD card into it (SD or SDHC), it wants to recognize the cards as XD memory cards. So in the Device Manager window is a "Ricoh xD-Picture Card Disk Device" appearing now, with a yellow exclamation mark, and the card is not appearing as drive at all.
With Memory Sticks there is no problem, the reader handles them with almost no trouble.

I did try to reinstall the drivers by executing the setup "Card Reader Ricoh", which is downloadable from the toshiba website, but it didn't help.

So what's next?

Answer:Satellite A300-1NO - Card reader and SD memory card problem

Have you removed the old driver before you installed the newer one?
And can you format the SD cards using the Toshiba SD memory utility?

Normally the card reader should be able to read SD cards and SDHC cards too. Did you try cards from different manufactures?
I use SanDisk Extreme III cards and don?t have problem with these cards.

Please help me giving your idea to remove the card out from the slot.

Answer:How to remove SD Card from the Card Reader slot - Satellite A100?

In my knowledge the SD card slot doesn?t has a any additional helps like the PCMCIA slot to remove the card.
You have to remove it simply. Try to grab the card and move it out. You can try to use the pair of tweezers. Maybe it helps

I recently bought a 1GB SD card and have tried to plug it into the 5-in-1 card reader built into my A100-163. Nothing appears in My Computer. I tried going to device manager and under 'disk drives' appears 'Secure Digital Storage Device' with a little yellow ! mark. I tried updating the SD Module Driver, but everytime i do that, the installer comes up with an error basicly saying it can find SD Secure Module.msi. It is trying to find it in an obscure temp folder which to me implies the installer is not extracting properly.

Can anyone help me read my SD card? Please help!

UPDATE: On the odd occassion, it will appear in My Computer as "Secure Digital Storage Device". When i double click on it, it says:

"E:\ is not accessible. THe request could not be performed because of an I/O device error."

Answer:SD card wont work in 5-in-1 card reader on my Satellite A100-163

Hello Mike

One thing confuses me. If the unit has ?factory settings? the multi card reader should be configured properly. Do you use your own OS installation?

Anyway, try to remove ?Secure Digital Storage Device? from device manager and restart the unit.

My Notebook ist a Satellite Pro L770-144 and the IO ist Windows 8 Pro 64bit.
The SD-Card-Reader recognize any cards. I had installed the Card Reader Controller from Realtek with the Version 6.1.7600.30126 an Windows 8.
But the cards are not recognized.
In Windows 7 it ??works.

Does anyone have an idea?
Greetings and Thanks
Leo L.

Answer:Satellite Pro L770-144: Win 8 card reader doesn't recogize SD card

First question:
Is card reader recognized in the device manager properly?
If its not recognized, then you used a wrong driver.

If its recognized, the driver has been installed properly and there is another reason why SD cards cannot be used.

As far as I know the card reader of Satellite Pro L770 handles different kind of cards and different sizes.
Memory Stick: 128MB-256MB
Memory Stick Pro: 512MB-2GB
xD Card: No
mini SD: 8MB-2GB
micro SD: 8MB-2GB
CompactFlash: No
SmartMedia: No

As you can see supported SD cards: 8MB ? 2GB
It seems bigger SD cards are NOT supported.

Have had problems with two 8gig SDHC cards in a row when attempting to access the card via the built-in reader on the laptop. Both times this is what happened:For a few minutes I can access the card and view the photos, but after some time the pictures turn grey and attempts to access the card again lead to a message that card needs to be formatted. I would hate to lose the data on these cards. It has already happened twice which leads me to think that there is something wrong with the built-in reader, since the cards have worked fine on other computers. Has anybody had this problem? What can I do to rescue the data? I bought an external reader for the cards now to be on the safe side, but I would hate for this to happen again. Thanks.

Answer:SD reader corrupts SDHC cards?

This could be happen. Happen to me with an external card reader a long time ago. Test your SD card into another card reader to discard any SD problem. If it works good, the problem can be the card reader. To make a recovery, you can use software like GetDattaBack or Ontrack Easy Recovery. If your laptop still under warranty, call customer service. Maybe they will replace your card reader. Best regards.

It says it's for Android devices (but I didn't see that until after I bought it). Will it work with Windows OS?

Answer:Sony make.believe Micro SDHC compatible with Lumia 640?

That's because Sony only makes Android devices, and they are trying to sell their own products. iPhone doesn't use SD.
MicroSDHC is an industry standard, pretty much. If it works in one, it should work in everything that supports microSDHC.

Today, I can not push the SD into the card reader, it works fine before. But when I try to push the same SD card in, is can not be totally push to the right position, I feel there are some thing like a spring block the card. What is the problem?
Is this a hardware problem?

Answer:Cannot push the SD card into card reader of Satellite P series

Hi there,

such an SD-Card slot is not fragile like some chinese porcelain. I mean something must have been happened, because the SD-Card slot does not go by itself into the "nirvana".

Did you already checked if something is into it? I mean did you took some magnifiying glass and a battery light to check what exactly is in there?
I would suggest you to give the machine some technician which is really familiar with such machines and let him check whats wrong with your SD-Card slot.

Maybe it?s just some small thing.

I have a Lenovo G50-80 with an internal SD Reader/Writer installed on my Windows 10 laptop. Whenever I put in a SD card, it is not reconized. It has worked before, but then slowly started to fail overtime. I've looked in the Device Manager, and "Disk Drives > SDHC Card" is faded stating it is "Not Connected" I've atempted to use the Realtek SD Card Driver that was in the driver section for B50-80, but it did not work. Could it be the hardware itself? Or is there a specific driver I need to install? Any help and directions are greatly appreciated.

Came across a 3.5" Acer Multicard Reader with a USB port (P/N: CR.10400.002) and plugged it into the floppy slot of one of my computers (running Win XP SP3). Tested the USB port and two commonly used card slots - for SD and Compact Flash. The USB and the CF slot worked fine. However, the SD slot only works with SD less than 2GB. It cannot read SDHC of 4GB. A message says something like "Access Denied. An error with I/O device". It appears that this card reader could be aged and cannot read the faster SD card with large GB. Are there ways to configure this card reader so that it is SDHC compatible. I've been searching for drivers for this Acer card reader but so far fruitless. Appreciate your help to fix this problem. Thanks.

Answer:Multicard Reader with USB Port not Reading SDHC

I believe that >2GB SDHC support requires SDHC compatible hardware in the reader itself. An SD only reader can not be made to work with SDHC cards with a driver update.

I've had a time of it with Hardware and Software support trying to get an answer and hope someone here might have had the same issue. I've had a H405 7723-1AU  for about three weeks now. I've been using SD and MicroSD cards in the Media Reader with no problems. I popped in a brand new Transcend SDHC 16GB (Class 10) card today and it doesn't get recognized. I've installed the Realtek USB driver from the disk - it previously had the MS generic driver - to 6.1.7600.30116 3/12/2010 but it still doesn't work. The machine "acts like" it's going to read (well, the hard drive light show a lot of activity when it's inserted) but then it just sits there... To test the card I hooked up my 5+ year old SanDisk USB reader and it reads all the cards; SD, MicroSD with SD adapter, and SDHC just fine... slow transfer though. Lenovo Software Support thinks it's a bad Media Reader, and of course, Lenovo Warranty thinks it's a driver issue. Any ideas from an experienced user? Thanks in advance!

Answer:H405 Media Reader won't read SDHC

hey tpillars, since both generic driver and the Realtek that came with the disc did not work, could you go to this link and try this driver > try this too >>

I've upgraded my Sony Vaio VGN-CCS115J to 64-Bit Windows 7. Would like to upgrade my ricoh sd mmc disk device driver to sdhc, but the only update Sony Vaio gave me was for the SD. I've googled online and found a variety of solutions for VISTA and XP but not for Windows 7. Anyone out there can help? Thank you so much!

Hi all, Am I correct to understand that the X220's built-in SDHC reader is on PCIe, rather than USB2? For example, if I were to use one of the fast 200x SDHC cards (such as SanDisk Extreme) -- would I get the full benefit of that card in the X220's SDHC reader? (Wheras, I gather, USB2 would be a bottleneck?) Thanks in advance!

Answer:X220 built-in SDHC reader performance?

One more question: does the X220's SDHC reader work with UHS-I cards?

I have used the Ricoh reader to back up my data partition by drag-and-drop copy to Transcend SDHC card. When I try to use drag-and-drop copy again to copy the updated data partition I get the message that there is not sufficient free space. But when I use this procedure on an external USB HDD I do not have that problem--Windows simply copies over the old file on the external HDD. Why does this not work with SDHC card in the Ricoh reader? Also, with this Class 10 SDHC card the initial backup took ages! Please advise, as I really want to use SDHC in the Ricoh reader as a backup medium.

Answer:Ricoh reader-SDHC for backup-cannot do copy and replace

My guess would be that the Windows "drag and drop" method does not account for duplicated files when calculating the size of the files to transfer.  You might want to look into a third-party program to perform the copy which does take that into account, or look into using the command line-based RoboCopy (filename: ROBOCOPY.EXE) utility to perform the operation.

I have a Satellite M40 and today I had the bad idea to use the Toshiba SD card reader.

I inserted the card into the slot and it went deep into it. Trying to get it back only resulted in pushing it farther in.

Now the cards is aprox. 2cm inside the slot and there is no way to get it out.

This must be a joke. Please tell me where the secret button is to get that card out of there. I give up, really...

Answer:Satellite M40 - SD card stuck in SD Card Reader

Hi Fritz,

Appears a bit strange to me, that your SD card is really 2cm deep inside the slot. The normal procedure is to put the card into the reader slot until it snaps in and makes a kind of click sound. To remove the card, simply push it in again and it slides out a bit, so you can grab and pull it out.

Does the card fit in properly? What type of card do you use? Because some smaller ones, used in, for example mobile phones, need first to be put into an adaptor.

I have an old Satellite Pro 420CDT and I am trying to get a wifi card working on it. Can anyone recommend one? I am running Windows 98.

Answer:Satellite Pro 420CDT: What wireless card could be compatible?

Yes, I think all the PCMCIA wireless cards with Windows98 drivers would be OK, maybe some of them are for max. 11 Mbps transfer speed only ...

Best regards,

Pete V.

An old fellow gave me his toshiba Satellite A10-S213, but there's no wifi card in it:
Where can I find a suitable one (what references for).

Answer:Satellite A10-S213 - What WiFi card is compatible?

Found this notebook specification page:

[Satellite A10-S213|]

It seems that Wlan is upgradeable and you could use an miniPCI Wlan card which supports the 802.11 B standard.

I have a Satellite Pro M70 (PSM76E) and cannot get the SD card reader to work. I don't have the CD's for my laptop and no drivers for SD card reader in the download section for my laptop.
I am using XP Pro and it showed up in device manager as a Mass storage device (with yellow apostrophe) soas suggested in a previous thread I installed a driver from a similar model - now no yellow appostrophe but still doesn't work.

Can anybody help please?
Many thanks

Answer:SD card reader issue on Satellite Pro M70

You do not have SD card reader but ?5 in 1 card reader? and for this device you must install ?Cardbus Driver? version Have you already installed it?
It is available for your notebook model. I have found it on Toshiba support page.

I have a Satellite M40 and my SD card reader won't read the new type of SDHC memory card. Are there any drivers for this?

Cheers foxy packard

Answer:Card reader updates for Satellite M40

It?s not a software (driver) limitation but a hardware limitation. The card reader?s hardware doesn?t support this kind of cards and a driver update will not help!

Maybe you can buy an external card reader which would support your SDHC memory cards.
Such external card readers are not expensive and you can connect to the notebook?s USB ports

I have a Satellite M60 series. Was pre-installed with WinXP Home. I upgraded to WinXP Pro, SP 1.
Installed all drivers, but got an error when trying to install Intel Chipset drivers, allways request that it's missing USB driver usbehc.sys. Another issue is that I can't read the SD/MMC card reader. Actually I reinstalled Cardbus driver but still I'm not able to read any card on it.
I really appreciate any advice on it.

Answer:Satellite M60: Issue with SD/MMC card reader

Satellite M60 is a one of the newest units and I have no experience with it but please check Toshiba download area and there you will find installations instructions. There you will see that cart reader is together with cardbus driver.

I am not sure if this is important but all drivers are designed for SP2 and if you use SP1 it is possible that there is some problem because of that.

Good luck and please let me know if the installation will be successfully

> All is correct, but I have problems withs drivers of "SD Card Driver". I dont find anything that works.. i tried with old WinXP ones but dont work

The Win XP drivers will not work with Win 7 but you should try some drivers released for Vista.
Try some drivers released for other series....

Try also this:

You can go to device manager -> SC card reader properties -> Details tab

There you can find something like that?.

VEN means vendor
DEV means device

Then you can find the ID numbers using this PC database:

This help to find the driver!
