Sat Pro A200/PSAE7 - Volume Control turns endless, no smooth volume change

Question: Sat Pro A200/PSAE7 - Volume Control turns endless, no smooth volume change

Hello,

On my newly purchased Pro A200/PSAE7 the (hardware) volume control - front side, right from speaker plug - turns endless and when using it the volume does not change "smooth" - more "abrupt". Because of this there is no "fine tuning" possible.

Q: Does somebody else has the same hardware side (endless turn) and software side (no smooth volume change) situation?

Many thanks for any reply in advance!

Best regards,
andreas

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Sat Pro A200/PSAE7 - Volume Control turns endless, no smooth volume change

Hello,

"problem" of abrupt volume change when turning volume control disappeared. I am not sure if this is based on disable "TDispVol.exe" as start-up service or another reason.

Thanks Jimi to the support in <a href="http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=32242&tstart=0" target="_newWindow" class="jive-link-external">this</a> thread I have fixed the problem :)

But I have another question/problem. The icon of the speaker regulator doesn?t pop up on my display when I regulate the volume.

Can you help me there too?

I hope you understand me :)

Answer:Satellite A200:Volume icon don't pop up on display when I change the volume

Hello

Sorry but who says that volume regulator should pop up? This regulator will pop up just if you click on small volume symbol placed in task bar.
Moving volume control dial nothing will be shown, just the small icon will be changed and show one, two or three small lines depending on volume level.

Hi

first time poster here so my apologies in advance if I have posted this thread in the wrong place or have not included all relevant information.

My question is regarding a Satellite A200-1VP I have recently purchased from a friend. Model number PSAE6E-08D02YEN. The laptop was completely wiped and Windows 7 Ultimate installed prior to it being purchased.

This seems to have caused the track pad and volume control to stop working.
Are there any drivers available that I could try using to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite A200-1VP - Trackpad and volume control

Hi

I have checked Toshiba download page on http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp and, as I can see, your machine is fully supported for Win7 32bit so what you should do is to install all offered drivers, tools and utilities.

Which OS version do you use (32 or 64bit)?
Have you installed all drivers?

HI!

The problem that I&rsquo;ve encounter is quite tricky and apparently with no solution (haven't formatted the drive yet).
Each time I open the Vista (home edition X32) on my Satellite A200-14D, things go as usual. I hear the sound. But when I try to adjust the volume with the button volume, it blocks: sometimes all taskbar, sometimes the computer (although the mouse moves and it responds to ctr-alt-del).

In the second situation I can access and the internet, for example, with the special button, but what do you know - can't type anything. When only the taskbar is blocking, I can use explorer or internet, but if I minimize a window there's nothing left to do. If when it's completely blocked I enter the task manager, it's not working. A solution is to Log out, and when I reenter is as it was before, but with the same risk.

What I&rsquo;ve tried:
- I&rsquo;ve uninstalled the Realtek drivers, updated them with the latest version - the same
- I&rsquo;ve erased the remaining drivers used by the device and reinstalled with new drivers - the same
- I&rsquo;ve scanned for viruses, nothing
- I&rsquo;ve done all the updates for windows etc.

When I disable the device, it's all well.
A fact is that I can control the sound, from control panel sound mixer and I can hear it and when the computer is blocked, so there is a software problem.
I've seen that in some cases, when I disable the sound, it appears the blue screen. It says that a proble... Read more

Hi

Did you notice all this issues at first day after notebook purchase?

Several times ago I have worked on the A200 and I really didn?t notice such issues.

So maybe you should check if the same will happen after OS restoring. Try to use the Recovery CD and set the notebook back to the factory settings.

This is necessary to find out if it a software or hardware problem. If it?s a hardware problem you will have to contact the ASP in your country for the check.

But if it?s a software issue caused due to the bad influence of the 3rd party software then the new recovery procedure should help to sort it out.

Hi,

I started noticing that my sound would randomly turn off, and it turned out in my volume controls that the wave control would automatically shut off by itself even after I fix it. I do not use IE, and instead use firefox. I also get random IE pop up ads.

I've already read that iexplore.exe is the cause of this as I have tried to remove it from processes but it keeps returning. Thank you in advance for all your help, it is greatly appreciated that you guys do what you do to help out people like me

Apologies first time I have used this. Just bought my second Toshiba this time Sat Pro A200 PSAE4E Vista Business. The volume control turns both clockwise and anti clockwise without any stopping point either way....just keeps turning.

The volume does increase and decrease but it is unpredicatble and the fact there is no stopping point on the turning of the wheel makes me wonder if there is a fault? Seems strange to me.

Adivce appreciated
Cheers

It?s nothing wrong with the volume controller!
These are new volume controller ?properties?. Such volume controllers are built-in in different high-end Toshiba notebooks? an similar volume controller can be found in the new Qosmio series?

ok so this problem was just about from the beginning. i thought i would be patient and it would go away. at first i noticed that while using msn messenger, its volume control for voice chat controled the main volume for the whole pc. so if it was low things wouldnt sound as high as i wanted. no matter if i adjusted the main volume in the control panel, which was always set to highest, the volume would still be at the mercy of Msn M. so if it was lower than usual i would have to sign into msn m and adjust it. not only does this happen with msn m. it also happens with web video applications used by youtube, livevideo, etc etc! those arent usually the culprit of low sound. its usually just msn m. even now with live messenger i have the issue. im tired of being patient so here i am

Short Story
Wave meter in volume control keeps stopping. I googled it, seems to be a virus. Performed a virus scan, came up with nothing. Did it with another anti-virus program, also showed nothing. Need help. Thanks.

Long Story
So basically, I wanted to watch a youtube video. When I played it, there was no sound. Thinking it was a simple volume problem, I checked the video volume, the small icon on the taskbar, and even went into the control panel to adjust the volume settings. I thought it might be my headphones, but I tried using the speakers and neither worked. I tried doing the voice playback, and then I could hear my voice. I thought maybe it was fixed. Played the video, no sound. At that point I thought it was my sound card. I didn't want to replace it, so I kept trying to look for a better solution. After much frustration, I managed to make my way into the volume control. Start - Control Panel - Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices - Adjust the System Volume - Audio - Sound Playback: Default Device: SoundMAX Digital Audio - Volume - Wave. I saw that the Wave option was all the way down, and moved it up. After moving it, I could hear the video crystal clear, so I closed all the windows I didn't need anymore. Well, after about 30 seconds, the volume shut off again. I went back into volume control, and the wave bar was all the way down again. I raised it, and closed the window. I was looking for the apply button to become available, for I had assumed that not app... Read more

I've been using OneDrive music streaming with Grove again recently, which gives you playback controls in the universal volume control that comes up on screen when you perform any playback operation (change volume/pause/etc). I've looked around though, but I haven't been able to find a way to change the amount of time the control stays on screen after a change, or to reposition it, since it's pretty big when you have playback going. I'd like to have it either disappear faster, or at least show up on the secondary display instead of the primary. Yes, I know I could just switch the primary/secondary monitors, but I'd like more granular control here. Anyone found a setting to change this (either surfaced or something in the registry that you can change)?

Hi everyone,

I noticed the volume of my music was not as loud as it was in the past when playing CD's or MP3 files with Windows Media Player 10. I had the volume turned all the way up in Media player and also in Realtek HD Audio Manager, but the sound was just not anywhere near as loud as it was before. I recently un-installed "Discover stream hub / Discover.exe" and thought that this might have had something to do with it, but that does not seem to be the case.

I decided to try to play an mp3 file with Realplayer and found that with the volume turned up in realplayer, the mp3 files sounded normal again, plenty of volume.

What surprised me is that if I close Realplayer with it's volume control turned up, then open the MP3 with Medial player, it will sound normal in media player, (plenty of volume). If I turn the volume control in Real player all the way down, close it, then play a file with Media Player, there will be no sound at all.

Somehow, the volume control for Realplayer is effecting and overriding the volume control for Media Player. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to how this might be happening ? Has anyone else ever experienced this type of thing ?

It's not a big deal now that I found out what was going on, but tracking down problems like this can drive you nuts. It seems crazy that the volume control from one program would control the other, I'm just wondering what might be going on. I'm using Windows XP Media Center Ed... Read more

Answer:Real Player volume control also controls Media Player Volume ?

Hi John

The reason that this happens is that when you change the volume in real player, it changes the 'Wave' volume for the whole system. I don't pretend to know too much about this but basically, real player changes part of the system volume which also affects the volume in media player. To see this for yourself, open Real Player and then go into Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices under control panel. Click on Advanced Volume Controls under the 'See Also' heading on the left. There should be a column labelled 'Wave'. If you now change the volume in Real Player, you will see this changing also. As a result, it changes the volume system wide. Hope this solves your confusion.

If you have upgraded from Vista you need "Toshiba Upgrade Assistant for Windows 7",... If you have done a clean install you need "Toshiba Software Installer for Windows 7".

I think you run these pro grammes once Windows 7 installation is complete.

Sorry but it is logic for me to pick up info at first.

Hi,

I have bought Toshiba Satellite Pro A200 PSAE7 and it was with Vista on from the beginning. I decided to upgrade (/downgrade) it to XP but there's problem with driver to graphic card (Radeon HD 2600 Series).

I can't find anywhere ati drivers (actually I found it on ati.amd.com site, but on this forum I read that Toshiba drivers are modified so that Radeon won't be overheating) and I'm wonderig if Vista ones will run on XP (I've downloaded all drivers but ati one)?

...and is it possible to downgrade my Vista to XP Pro through Miscrosoft site (or something like that) or do I have to reinstall it using my old copy (provided with old Toshiba)?

Ps.
Sory for my English

Ps2.
Is it so important to install drivers in proper order?

Answer:Satellite Pro A200 PSAE7: Where to get the ATI driver for Win XP

What do you mean by; ?there is some problem with ATI XO driver??

The Toshiba European driver page provides all necessary XP drivers and tools.
The ATI GPU driver is released too!

One important note; If you want to install the XP on this Vista unit, you have to update the BIOS to the XP compatible version!!!

Regarding you question about downgrade Vista to XP Pro through Microsoft site;

Short answer; No this is not possible!!!

Hello,

My A200/PSAE7 has one 200GB HDD. For backup reasons I would like to know - or get to know how to check - if my A200 already has hardware support for a 2nd HDD, beside the slot for a 2nd HDD.
In BIOS I can see "Hard Disk - Toshiba MKxxx" and "Hard Disk - None". Does the latest BIOS entry is a sign, that a 2nd HDD is supported and only has to be put into the second HDD slot?

Thx for any reply in advance!

Best regards,
andreas

Answer:How to check if 2nd HDD is possible on Satellite Pro A200 PSAE7?

You can do the following:

open the cover where the 2nd HDD supposedly should be installed and check for some SATA connectors or cables. If there is some unused SATA connection then you can upgrade, if not, then you will have to backup your data on USB-HDD or whatever.

If in the BIOS is something present it does not mean that it is physically present.

What keyboard are you using? Does it have volume buttons? I've seen bad keyboard drivers do that on 7.

Hello, I have installed the latest bios and drivers, but the problem with the internal mic still persists: it's volume is too low (levels set to MAX)->unusable.

And when the AC is plugged in, a heavy background noise appears in the plugged in headphones, or plugged-in speakers.
Also, in the plugged-in microphone too... :(

Although the [specifications|http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/jsp/productPage.do?service=UK&PRODUCT_ID=131911] says my Sat-Pro A200 (PSAE7) comes with Toshiba DVD player, it is *NOT* installed in my device. I have tried to download something called "dvdpl-20070807102909" (is this the program?) from Toshiba download site, but when I double-click the "setup.exe" inside the application, Windows Vista said "this application cannot be installed.

I have also looked inside the Recovery disk that comes with the laptop, but cannot see anything obvious to click to install the player.

Please could anyone help and tell me how to install this DVD player?

Answer:Question about DVD Player on Satellite Pro A200 PSAE7

It?s a little bit strange?
On the Toshiba European driver page I could find the Toshiba DVD player software.
It?s a DVD Player version 1.10.06
So I presume it should be preinstalled on the Toshiba notebook.

The recovery CD which was delivered together with the notebook contains a Toshiba image. This image should support the Windows OS, All Toshiba driver, tools, utilities and additional software.
Please insert the Recovery CD into the CD/DVD drive and boot from this CD.

This procedure will format the whole HDD and will install the OS again on the notebook.
After a new installation please check if the Toshiba DVD player is available!!!

HYE GUYS,

Ive got this problem. When I go to Master Volume Control, there is no Microphone Slider Option but it appears on Recording Control. How can this be?

Im doing internet radio,so this kind of problem make it hard for me. The wave slider and mic slider must be work alternatively on master control. Or is there any other way?

HELP ME PLEASE.:cry

Answer:Microphone option not found in the master volume control but in recording control

Hi

I just noted your post in passing, have a look at your audio properties via the control panel in XP not sure about vista...See what you have set for playback and recording options you may have something different for each of the options in these tabs like recording control, playback device etc...

If your no joy, also have a look in the device manager and see what audio device you are using, if you have onboard audio and an expansion audio card (eg not built into the mother board) like a soundblaster audigy or similar then ensure this is selected for the appropriate recording or playback in sound properties. You might want to check to be sure the onboard is audio if any is disabled in the bios otherwise this may causr an IRQ conflict which you can check via the device manager on the audio properties.

I recently installed the Soundblaster Audigy and had all sorts of fun with it initially, untill i checked which IRQ (interupt request) it was using and found about four other devices all trying to run through the same irq, once this was sorted it was all joy and happiness...oh also check your drivers well your at it.

The other thing it might be is there are options in the (FILE) menu for volume control the one that lists maater volume wave microphone etc.. you can select which options to display and therfore in turn adjust in retrospect you may want to check this out as its the least complicated / time consuming of the options I've listed ...Good luck:wave

Hello :)
I hope I put this in the right area..

I've been searching for a solution to this volume problem for a while now, but to no avail. I've found others with a similar problem, but no solution. So here's the deal: I just got a new motherboard, and ever since I got it my volume control has been faulty. First of all, all sounds are very quiet, even when all volume sliders are set to maximum. Next the main volme control has no effect whatsoever on the volume of the computer. I can can slide it all the way to the top, or all the way to the bottom, nothing changes. The only thing that makes any difference is the Wave control and it barely does anything. Also, when I put "Mute all"...it doesn't mute. However when I put mute for Wave control, no sound comes out.
All this is incredibly annoying because I often listen to music on my computer, but now I basically can't hear it. To note: I don't have a volume control on my keyboard, or on my speakers, and I know nothing is wrong with the speakers.

If anyone could help, I would really, really appreciate it. Thanks :)

Vista64 Home Prem on a Gateway, amd turion x2, Conexant audio device.

This laptop has a touch sensitive volume control on the top right of the keyboard. The volume control responds fine on normal use, but when I run IE (7 or 8) 32 bit, or any 32 bit app, after a while the volume starts to turn down by itself. I pull up the volume control from the task bar and I can see the slider moving down. I move it up and it starts going back down immediately. I tried different drivers, even uninstalling the device and have Vista use the MS drivers.

The on keyboard volume control touch slider led is stuck lit up on the lower end and does not respond to touch.

It almost seems to start when ever I start watching a flash video, like on YouTube. And since Adobe hasn't released a 64 bit flash player, i am stuck using 32-bit IE.

Hello!

I just bought a usb soundcard for my asus laptop, since the combo mic/audio jackstick is really bad.
The usb soundcard says its compatible with windows 8(i run windows 8), so i thought it would be just fine to use.

But the problem shows when i plug the usb soundcard in. When i do that, it looks like it's pressing the volume down key, down all the time. I see the volume bar on the top left of my screen all the time. If i try to increase the volume, it will just drop it down to zero again as if the volume down key was held down.

This gif shows what im talking about. This happens everytime i plug the usb soundcard in. In the gif the only thing i touched was the mouse to increase the sound volume.
The usb soundcard i use is in this link its on danish some of it though. https://www.av-cables.dk/minijack-co...b-lydkort.html

I hope some of you know what to do because im tired of searching the internet and just getting the "change settings to "do nothing" under communication"...

Regards
Ravn

I don't think a small thumbdrive sized speaker works... At all... They need actual speakers. See if you can return it. Either a defect, false advertisement or the product isn't compatible with windows 8.1.

Whenever I press the shift key it turns my volume down Please help

Answer:HELP shift turns my volume down

Wow. That is quite the problem. If this is on a laptop (please update your system specs) then it could be that your shift key is a hotkey for volume down but if this is on a desktop running a legitimate Windows installation, virus-free then it's a bizarre problem.

I could recommend using a program such as SharpKeys to explore the issue. Sharpkeys is a GUI-based registry editor that enables you to change the functions of any key on your keyboard to that of another key. For example, on an older keyboard with no media controls I reconfigured my F11 and F12 keys to act as previous track and next track.

It takes a small amount of getting used to, but if you give yourself a few minutes to familiarise the layout and how the program works, then it's quite simple to use.

Dear Mr/Ms
my name is Tony and i am using the A200 laptop with OS as VISTA
and i formatted it using the product recovery CD after that i have backed up all my data.
It is now working very well except that i realised that now i got only one Volume which is Drive C with 112 Giga bytes.

A friend of mine told me that i can do shrink volume. So i tried it and it worked that i have made up 2 drives....But the problem is that their sizes are not suitable for me and i can't extend their volumes.

To be more clear 112 Giga bytes of drive c is divided into:
drive c : 67 gigabytes
drive d : 43 gigabytes

the thing is that i want to make drive c : 30 gigabytes only and drive D to be the rest of the space.

so can you please tell me how to do this.....

Thankyou and sorry for making my request so tall????

Answer:Satellite A200 - How to shrink volume on Vista?

Have you tried to use the disk management in Vista?
You can find it if you right click on computer => manage => storage => disk management
There you can change current size of the partition.

This could be useful for you:

Hi
I have Toshiba Sattelite A200-1N3
I changed to Windows XP. I got all the drivers & BIOS. Everything is working properly Except 1 small thing, but it is annoying me to the extent that I may change the LAPTOP

My MIC volume is not appearing in the Output!!
I'm using both the internal and external mic, both of them is working properly in recording or in Chat, but I need the volume of the MIC to be hearable in the speakers!!
Sometimes I'm connecting cassete or TV volume to the laptop to record some program on my PC. It is recording properly but I need to hear the TV program or the song I'm recording during the record process itself.

I had more than 5 Notebooks & Desktops before, All of them even the underground brands giving me the ability to listen to the MIC voice from the PC speakers. But TOSHIBA is not giving me that.

I hope anyone help me in this.

Need littile help with Realtek HD audio manager _volume controller level_

Toshiba Satellite A200-1m8 Winxp sp3... I'm not sure of my realtek audio manager version.. but updated to the final versions available

When I Adjust the volume level , the volume level changes correctly in the built-in program... but it changes into inconstant levels on the very first and the third quarter in the volume level of realtek's program ...... which is annoying and can't work with....

I wonder if there's any way to solve this

Thanks....

I doubt that can be fixed by yourself, unless its been fixed in a newer version of the Realtek driver.

Have a look at the Toshiba Website for updated Audio drivers, install it and see how that goes.

Do you have any other soundcard-like devices like a USB headset?
Do you have the latest drivers for your soundcard installed? Please check the motherboard maker's website.
Did you get some special program with the motherboard drivers that would give you more control over sound than the Windows standard volume utility?

I'm running windows XP on an old Dell Inspiron 1501 and I'm trying to get my microphone to play directly through my speakers so I can record them both simultaneously. The only answer I've been finding is to tick the 'microphone' checkbox in the volume control playback properties panel, but I don't have a microphone checkbox. There should be a 'microphone' box under SW Synth and CD player but I don't get one apparently.I've downloaded the latest SigmaTel Audio drivers from Dell and despite not having a problem with them before this, I'm inclined to believe that they're the problem. Any ideas?

Answer:No microphone control in playback Volume Control panel

Okay well of course I find an answer right after posting the topic:
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/t/19295458.aspx
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/p/18112824/18235810.aspx#18235810

Those two pages detail how to get an Input Monitor checkbox which functions just like the microphone one I wanted (although you can only mute it, not alter the volume). I used Instructional Set 3 from the second page, having to add the 'RecMonitorMute' entry as detailed in the first page and I can now hear my microphone input directly through my speakers.

HOWEVER, I'm still unable to record both the microphone and speaker sound at the same time. I thought recording the 'Stereo Mix' channel with the microphone coming through the speakers would work but it isn't and I don't know why. Any ideas?

Hi. First post to this forum.

I have a Satellite Pro A200. Volume when tested through the Realtek audio controller (just upgraded to 5.1) is good, with a satisfactory volume. Howver the volume of DVD/CD playback, or online radio, is very soft, and only just audible.

I have been to every volume setting and set everything to maximum.

I had hoped downloading the most recent Realtek software would stop this problem that has existed since I bought the laptop, but I am only doing something about now...

Hope someone can help.

Thanks,
Matt

Answer:Satellite Pro A200-PSAE4E Audio volume issue

With DVD playback I agree with you, most of the time I hardly understand a word of what they say in movies. There it depends on what software you use because there are some setting which can boost sound level or have special notebook sound modes.

Have you tried your notebook with other software like winamp if the volume is low there too?

Hi,

I tried tp upgrade the firmware of my HD-DVD drive (SD L802B) with the new TO35 firmware, but it is not possible. The upgrade button of that Winvup is not selectable. I had the same problem with an older firmware, but i just thought this was because the firmware was up to date ( notebook is 1 month old).

Winvup displays my drive as "TOSHIBA DVDW/HD SD-L802B TO01 (10/26/07)". The discription of To35 says, it needs a version of TO33 or T034, is that the problem?

I got this firmware update form [Link to firmware|http://de.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=DE&mode=allMachi nes&action=search&teddProduct=737]
so it should be the right one.

So what can i do to upgrade my drive? Currently watching a HD DVD is not possible :(

Thx,
Holger

Answer:Satellite Pro A200 (PSAE7): unable to update firmware under Vista

It?s not possible to update the firmware on your SD-L802B drive because the firmware released on the Toshiba page was deigned for the TS-L802A drive.
Don't mix these both drives! It's not the same!

I found this website about SD-L802B Super-Multi DVD Writer
http://www.storage.toshiba.eu/index.php?id=3&pid=221

But according to this page the firmware is not available for this driver ( at this time ?:| )

If not then this issue could be related to hardware and therefore you would be not able to fix it.

whenever I watch a video and the volume is above a certain level (not even maxed out) the video starts to freeze and the whole system after that..If I turn the volume down from the little wheel in the front sometimes it recovers after several minutes but some other times it just shows the blue screen error and immediatelly restarts....I've tried almost everything ...got extra memory (2 gb), formatted it and installed win 7 32, installed all latest drivers for that version of windows....

I'm totally frustrated with that laptop...It had problems from the beginning I mean they launched it with Vista Home and 1 gb ram which was just too little for the system to work properly...So they just forced you to buy more mem because you wouldn't be able to work.

Hi,

Our Satellite A200 is having problems with its Volume control wheel.
If I turn the wheel (to the left or right) it does not properly reduce or increase the volume level.
It rather jumps the volume level into apparently random directions (with a certain preference to increasing the volume).
Turning the wheel slowly does improve its responsiveness a bit, but it remains pretty impossible to increase or decrease the volume setting at will.

BTW, I am well aware that the volume control wheel is a puls-coder wheel rather than ye olde potentiometer.

- Can anyone tell me where I can find the configuration that is responsible for this Volume Control Wheel?
- Which driver/firmware is associated with the volume control wheel?
- How can I determine whether this is a hardware or software problem?

Any tips would be welcome.

Stephan

Answer:Satellite A200 does not properly reduce or increase the volume level

Hi

There is neither software nor hardware problem.
This is a new generation of volume controller.

First of all there is no ?mechanical? limit turning it right or left.
Furthermore this volume controller works a little bit different as the ?older?volume controllers. The volume can be increased and decreased using fixed levels?

By the way;
> Can anyone tell me where I can find the configuration that is responsible for this Volume Control Wheel?
You can change the sound volume also in the sound settings which could be found in control panel.
> Which driver/firmware is associated with the volume control wheel?
The sound driver controls the volume controller?.

Usually the BSOD appears due to the serious software issue or hardware malfunction.
In my opinion it?s a software (driver) issue.

I presume the BSOD appears why playing some games? in most cases the graphic driver must be updated.
If the XP driver from the Toshiba page will not help you could try the graphic drivers from the www.omegadrivers.net site. The 3rd party drivers should run on your notebook. But note; 3rd party drivers can be used only at your own risk!

> Why standard display drivers from ati.com do not work? (While on my friends laptop with also hd2600 mobility radeon works fine).
The original ATI drivers cannot be installed on a easy way because such drivers don?t support an overheating protection. The Toshiba GPU drivers are a little bit modified and support an overheating protection. Such protection is necessary and important because the notebook graphic cards are not equipped with huge cooling module like the GPUs on for the desktop PCs.
The temperature increases on the notebooks much faster and therefore the graphic driver have to control the GPU performance to decrease the internal temperature.

Therefore it?s always advisable and recommended to use the Toshiba drivers ;)

Those who may want the old volume control, in Windows 10, with Speakers and Mixer links:

In the Windows Registry Editor, navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

and create a new sub-key under CurrentVersion named:

then, right click in that key's right pane, create a new DWORD (32 bit) Value and name it:

Hi and welcome

A few things you can try.

1. Do a System Restore and roll the computer back to a date before the problem started.

2. Right click on the system tray in the bottom right hand corner of your screen, then click properties, customize. Scroll down to the Volume icon and click it. Check to see if it is set to always hide, if so change it to hide when inactive or always show. then go to control panel, sounds and audio devices and check the box that says "place volume icon in the task bar". If you have reinstalled the audio drivers this should work.

Or 3. Alternatively this file could be damaged Sndvol32.exe. Check this page for more info:

But, if I open the Volume Control clicking on the icon in the system tray and adjust the volume from there, then i can change volume also using the buttons on the laptop.
Closing the file and opening another one the same problem comes back. Till I open the Volume Control....

What is the "cure" for this strange behavior?
Thanks

Have you tried reinstalling QuickSet?

http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/QuickSet.shtml

That seems to manage configuration for your medias buttons

Hiya,
Not sure if this is in the right place but got a weird one.

The volume slider on my pc displays correctly, slides from top to bottom fine, but 1%-100% outputs the same volume (as far as I can tell it outputs 100%) and 0% correctly mutes the output.
Programs like VLC and WMP allow me to change the volume that they output fine, but windows controller just doesn't.

I've reinstalled windows since this began but no change.

Anyone had a similar problem?

Thanks in advance, Mark.

Hey all,
I've never run into this issue before, so looking for some help:

The Volume Control in my Windows Media player does not work. The Windows Volume Control applet works fine.
I was using WMP10, and it didn't work, so I updated to WMP11, and still it didn't work. I disabled my one addon, and still no luck.

Would it be a registry issue? Any idea on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Joe

have you tried the sound menu on your tv? many tvs have loudness controls and special sound effects modes which may be the cause of your problem, be aware that adverts are recorded at a higher volume than normal to attract your attention.

Question: Volume Control

Volume Control has suddenly disappeared from my system....I checked the 'show speaker icon in tray' and got this message.

Windows cannot display the Volume Control on the task bar because Volume Control program has not been installed. Use Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.

I have no idea how to do this as it has never been a problem. I have XP Professional installed. I changed over from Zone Alarm to Sygate last week as it was causing a few problems with software. I also have SpyBot and Ad-aware and use them I do hope you can advise me what to do

Question: Volume Control

Hi Guys,

anyone know if its possible to get an on screen volume control when you are playing music. At the moment I can only see how to start and stop music from playing.

I can turn the volume up and down via my keyboard but would like to do it on screen via my mouse.

If I drop to my old windows desktop (which I'm desperately trying not to do) I can control it with the speaker icon in my taskbar but I can't for the life of me work out how to adjust volume on screen.

Cheers

Question: Volume control

What would happen if I max all five settings; will it make my speaker louder?

Answer:Volume control

If you mean the SW Synth and Input Monitor levels that are currently at minimum or muted, then no, increasing or unmuting these won't alter the volume of your speakers.

SW Synth sets the level of sounds created when something is playing the soundcard's software synthesiser ("Soundblaster" type music in some mostly older games), Input Monitor is mostly used to allow you to also hear your own voice when using a headset.

Question: Volume control

I have an Inspiron 3521. out of no where, a black rectangular box showed up on the top left of my screen. The volume icon on the task bar show an x which I believe is mute. When I  try to increase the volume, it starts where I want it, then slides down to 0 volume and then mute. I cannot get rid of the black box in the left corner and when I go to raise the volume there it also slides back down to 0 and mute. I uninstalled Realtek and re installed and same thing is happening. Can anyone help me.
Thanks,
PsCohn

I have read many posts posts about volume control. Most reference volume control missing. My problem is different. My volume control icon is there . The problem is I can't control the volume. If I hit volume up it goes to max. If I hit volume down it goes all the way down to nothing. I can't get anything in between. This happens whether I use my mouse or the +/- buttons on my wireless key board. It seems to work for a little while if I reboot but then the problem returns. Any suggestions?

This is a problem I'm having on Windows XP. When you go to the volume icon and go to turn the volume up higher or lower, you simply get the XP exclamation sound and it pops back down to the middle. The slider simply will not stay up or down.

This is on my mother's computer and she's very hard of hearing so she has to have her volume turned up very high. I have no idea what could be causing this problem - it started doing this a day or two ago and I have not changed any settings or installed any new programs in at least a month. Rebooting doesn't work at all.

Answer:Can't control volume?

Try performing a System Restore to a date before the behavior started happening.

You need to install both the chipset driver and the driver for you sound card. You can download  and install Belarc Advisor (http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html) or Everest (http://www.lavalys.com/) to get a list of the hardware on your system.

Question: volume control

I was cleaning up some unused programs and windows options and somehow deleted the volume icon on the task bar. I can still adjust the volume using the control panel but when I click add icon to the taskbar it won't add it. How can I get it back? Windows XP.

Answer:volume control

First make sure its not in the system tray, and not just hidden since windows auto-hides icons after a while. I know its stupid, but got to ask cause i've been asked similar before and all it was, was windows auto-hiding it

If its not that, goto the task manager and under "processes" look for sndvol32.exe. (or just Sndvol.exe)

If its not there goto Start > Run then type "msconfig" and hit enter. Under the start up tab, check if sndvol32.exe (Sndvol.exe) is in there and that it is ticked.

If it is not, then go back to task manager, goto applications tab, and hit "New Task..."

then type in "c:\windows\system32\sndvol32.exe"
or "c:\windows\system32\sndvol.exe"

If it then appears, then the easiest step now is to create a shortcut to the file location you entered in and put this shortcut in
"c:\windows\start menu\programs\start up\"
and this should start it everytime you start windows.

If however you enter in either file location and it can't find them, then they are missing or damaged and is what is causing the missing volume icon. To repair this you'll need to extract the file from your windows CD to your windows\system32\ folder.

Hopefully this helps you. This is presuming your using windows volume control. Some use different ones, mine uses realteks instead so the above wouldn't work the same in my case.
