Restore recovery partition on Satellite Pro A200

Question: Restore recovery partition on Satellite Pro A200

I accidently deleted the 5Gb recovery partition on my Sat Pro A200. I have since recovered it (and the data inside) and have tried to create my recovery disks using the 'Recovery Disc Creator' but it is telling that it cannot find the recovery partition :(

I tried fishing through the ini files for the recovery disc creator to find where it looks for the partition, but couldnt find anything...

One thing i have noticed is that now it is recovered, it appears as an NTFS fs (i think before it was an Unknown FS type??) and has volume label 'HDDRECOVERY'.

Any ideas as to how i can either:

a) trick the recovery tool into using the recovered partition
b) make the partition look exactly like it did before i deleted it, so i can use the tool as is.

Would really appreciate any help - want to make those recovery disks for my vista ultimate before i go dicking around and whacking backtrack on it :)

Preferred Solution: Restore recovery partition on Satellite Pro A200

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I wonder how you have restored the deleted partition. Possibly the recovery partition parameters are not the same as before and therefore the 'Recovery Disc Creator' doesn?t work correctly.

Unfortunately, in my opinion you will be not able to trick the recovery tool if the recovery partition cannot be found.
You can only rename the NTFS FS partition. This can be done in the disk management console.
But I don?t think that this will solve this issue.

It seems you will have to reinstall the whole OS again using the Toshiba Recovery CD or the original Microsoft Vista CD

First of all, I've got a A200 1BP Vista Home Premium and I lost the product recovery disc and I want to create one with Toshiba Product Recovery Disc Creator or Vista's "recdisc.exe".

They both failed as I had a message "No HDD Recovery Area!" which then I looked at the "Disc Management" section and couldn't find any unnamed partition.

There were two Primary Partition which were 1.46 GB "Healthy (EISA Configuration)" and my Vista (C:).
So what should I do? Can I create a recovery partition?
Or can I fix the Recovery Disc Creator? (v.

PS: I recovered my computer many times with my CD, which probably used my recovery partition.
Seriously, I'm out of ideas and I don't wanna lose 50 bucks just to have another copy of PR Disc.

PS2: I used press "0" and "F8" thing too, they didn't work either.
Is there any way I can restore without any discs?

It looks like the HDD recovery partition is missing?
The first partition 1.46GB is created by Vista automatically and the C partition is the system partition? the HDD recovery partition does not seem to be available?

> PS: I recovered my computer many times with my CD, which probably used my recovery partition.
Did you recover the Vista using the Recover disk or what disk did you use???

If you installed the system using Vista Microsoft disk then this was a big mistake because this has deleted the HDD partition?

> Is there any way I can restore without any discs?
Either you will use a MS Vista disk and the missing drivers you could download from Toshiba page or you will order the Toshiba recovery disk? don?t see other solution?

Hi folks,

I have a new Satlellite A200 and it will not boot up. Tried running recovery CDs but no joy.
Could someone please tell me, if I selected

'Erase Hard Disk' then 'Delete all data and partitions from the hard disk'

would this also delete the computer's internal recovery partition?

I have the recovery CDs but as I said, they don't work and I was wondering if clearing the HDD completely then running the recovery from the HDD recovery partition would help.

Sorry if this is a basic question for you guys! I've read through hundreds of threads, but can't find a definitive answer.

Thanks in advance,

If you mean the hidden Vista WinRE partition then; YES

But don?t worry buddy; The Toshiba Vista recovery CD would format the whole HDD and would erase all partitions but it creates the hidden Vista WinRE partition again on the HDD.

Hi all.

I have modified the partion of my HDD, now the preistalled Recovery Partion is not available anymore.
I understand that in this way the partion table was modified and so the Recovery Partition cannot be found in order to restore the factory settings or to create a recovery disk.

However, the recovery partition is still on HDD and its contents seem to be correct.

Is there a way to make the recovery partition available yet?
(At the moment, I can use the lapton only by booting it from a"live cd")

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite L50-A-1D6: restore the preinstalled Recovery Partition

> Is there a way to make the recovery partition available yet?
As I understand you recovery partition is still available but problem is that recovery installation tool cannot find it anymore. Recovery partition is visible only in case that notebook has original ?factory settings? and originally defined partition structure.

Unfortunately now you will not be able to start recovery image installation.
Have you created recovery media following instructions described in user?s manuals document?

Here's My Situation:

I have a Toshiba Satellite L505D-s5695 Laptop, and I had to put a new Hard drive in it, but not before I Copied the Recovery partition files over to an external Drive.

So I have No recovery discs, and no original Hard Drive.
Because of this, Holding "0" while booting, or F8 options to restore or get into the toshiba recovery utility do not exist any longer.

Is it possible to use Imagex or some other utility to restore the laptop to factory image with the Files that were on the original Recovery paritiion?

I'm currently playing around with imagex commands and the .SWM files,
but if someone knows the exact command line to use or procedure it would be of great help!

Answer:Satellite L505D Factory Restore from Recovery Partition Files Manually

>I have a Toshiba Satellite L505D-s5695 Laptop, and I had to put a new Hard drive in it, but not before I Copied the Recovery partition files over to an external Drive.
After reading this I must say that this will not work. You cannot simply copy these recovery filed on other HDD and start recovery installation. This will not work.
Either you can start recovery installation following Toshiba procedure how to start HDD recovery installation or you must create recovery DVD and use it for OS installation.

This recovery DVD can be used on every HDD. With other words, you can replace HDD with new one and use DVD for recovery image installation.

Following your logic everyone can make simply files copy and use it on certain notebook. It will not work.
Have you created recovery DVD following Toshiba advice/description about recovery disc creation?

Hi everyone, I know this must sound like a real stupid title, but please bear with me for a moment: Having wiped my R50p clean with the "Access IBM" button, I noticed that I only had a C drive with 20 GB of which much was in use. In Windows XP Disk Manager I saw that there was a whopping 55 GB on a hidden partition that I only had the option of to "remove", not to activate or anything else. Realising that this was the hidden partition with the IBM restore files, I was hesitant to take any action. After doing some research on several forums I found that the recovery part should only take up 20 GB, which corresponded somewhat to the fact that Disk Manager showed 42 GB of 55 GB to be "free" (if only I could use the free space!). In order to access those magnificent 42 free GBs on the 55 GB hidden partition, I first created a ThinkVantage recovery disc (strangely it was only one CD-R) and disabled IBM Predesktop Area in the BIOS. As a result, I proceeded with deleting the 55 GB partition and it became unallocated space, therefore allowing me to make it a new partition and assign a drive letter (in this case D), doing a "quick format (NTFS)" in order to be able to use the space available, and finally giving me the full 55 GB. Since I had preferred to leave the recovery files on the hidden partition, but had no idea how to access the useful other 42 GBs, I followed the abovementioned procedure. Now my question is whether it's possible to recreate another hidden parti... Read more

Answer:?? Restore Recovery Partition with Recovery Disc after deleting Recovery Partition

pvanedan, welcome to the forum, after reading your post several times I think I understand your situation as it is now. The answer is as follows; which you may not like sorry  You have successfully deleted the recovery partition in order to gain more space, that's the good news  The cd you have created is only a boot cd and not a recovery cd, this would be used to boot your ThinkPad and access a recovery backup which is stored on another hard drive, cd/dvds or over network. It alone is not able to recreate the recovery partition which you no longer have, that's the bad news  I would suggest backing up your files regularly and using an appropriate imaging software to backup your installation. Edit: What I don't understand is; why 55GB? The partition should have been around 4GB, maybe it was full of backups??Message Edited by andyP on 07-03-2008 07:30 PM

I've already got Toshiba A200-1M4.
When I open My Computer, I see hard disks C and E.
Where's hard disk D?

How can I make hard disks (C,D and E)?

Answer:Re: Satellite A200-1M4 - Where's HDD partition D?

I presume you have installed Vista on this notebook?
Am I right?

The Vista uses two partitions on the HDD. The C is need for the common Vista OS and the hidden D partition is needed for the Vista restore options and files.

As I said it?s hidden and should be not used!!!

I need to restore my hard drive back to the factory default.

I have tried holding down the "Zero" key on bootup, also tried holding down one at a time,F2, and F8 , F10, F12 but none of these get me into the recovery wizard.

I have searched the Help files on the PC and online but to no avail.
Has anyone any idea how I can get into the recovery partition please?

Answer:Equium A200-196 How do I restore the hard Drive from the Toshiba Partition?

You should be able to start HDD recovery installation as described in

Please note: this will work if your notebook runs with factory settings. If you have used own OS installation HDD recovery will not be available anymore. For ?Factory settings? installation you must use recovery DVD disc.

Everything must be described in ?User?s manuals? document.

I have a problem with my partitions as I first had on the notebook 2 apparent partitions on the HDD, labelled C:\Vista
(Vista Home Premium) and E:\Data ( 57GB and respective 55GB ). I've decided to format vista because I had some problems with FN key. After using the Product Recovery CD in order to install fresh windows I've relished I have only one partition in total of aprox 115GB. I wanted to have at least two partitions, so I used again the CD to reinstall windows and try to find how I can make a partition during the installation process. After I chose language there was a window saying I can adjust my disk space, so I did, distributing 40GB for the partition where windows should be installed, presuming that the rest of HDD label will be distributed to a second partition.

After I reinstalled and made all updates I had a big surprise seeing that I have only 1 partition with 39GB. Now I used device manager to see what's wrong. I went to the HDD section properties/volume and clicked on populate. there it shows the windows partition of 40gb and unallocated space of aprox 72 GB. My main problem is I need to have that space partitionated and since the Recovery disk does not give me this option is there any other way vista can make a partition with the remaining space? I look forward for some advice please.

Thank you

Answer:How to create a partition on a Satellite A200-14D?

Don?t worry dude? there is everything ok. It seems the partition was created but not activated.
After installation of the Windows Vista please go to the disk management.
There you will find the first partition ?C? and maybe a second or only a free space.

If you want you can shrink the partition ?C? firstly. After this process you can right click on the free space and create a second partition or add the free space to the second partion which is already created.

Good luck and best regards

At me toshiba a200-1m7... System Windows Vista. HDD it is divided on (C: )-75 GB and (D: )-75GB, but for (C: ) - 75 GB it is a lot of... A question: how to divide it here so - (C: )-30 GB and (D: )-120 GB?

Answer:Satellite A200-1m7: How to change the partition size on C and D

As far as I know you can shrink and create the single partition in the Vista ?disk management?.

The ?Disk management? should be found in the ?Administrative Tools?.
There you could try to shrink firstly the ?C? partition and then try to add the free space to the second partition or you can create a new one.

Good luck.

Hey buddy?, it?s very strange and mysterious issue? I?ve got a long experience in Windows and computer technology but believe me? the HDD files don?t disappear without any reasons?.

So either you have installed something which has deleted or removed the files or you have deleted it accidentally?

Did you try to set the OS to the early time point?
This procedure mostly helps to reset the settings or to get the early system state.

Check this? maybe it helps

I'm thinking of intstalling Linux to my toshiba notebook, but before I do that I have some questions.

I've noticed that I can do recovery with my recovery dvd, but I also have an hidden partition on HDD.
If I install linux (and change the original partitions) can I still do recovery from recovery DVD I got with my new laptop?
(If I can't what are my options to install linux and still do recovery to Vista later?)

Answer:Satellite A200-10W: Can I recover if I delete the hidden partition

Hi Luka

Yes, you will be able to recover the notebook back to the factory settings if you delete the hidden partition.
In such case you will have to use the Toshiba recovery CD to get the factory settings.
The hidden partition is used by Vista. Vista uses this partition for some backups and repair possibilities.
The usage of recovery CD will format the whole HDD and will also create the hidden partition too.

As I encountered frequent problem with starting my Satellite A200-TH1 recently, I was advised to use the recovery disks by the vender. When I use it, after the initial two instructions (F12 /enter setup /F9), nothing happened. I selected the CD drive then pressed F9.

Can any one help me to complete the process to get my computer recovered fully?

Answer:Recovery of Satellite A200-TH1

Does your computer try to start from CD or what happens exactly?

Have you tested different bootable disks to check if the recovery disk works properly? You can use a Microsoft Windows disk to test this. If this disk work, your recovery disk is scratched/faulty, otherwise it could be a problem of your CD/DVD drive.

Answer:Satellite A200: How to restore Vista back

You don?t need to install the Vista from partition but from Toshiba recovery CD.
Just put it into the CD/DVD drive and boot from this CD.

The notebook will boot from the CD and the recovery CD will format the HDD!
The whole procedure will take about 10min. Then the notebook will be set back to the factory settings.

does removing of the hidden recovery partition void the warranty on the Satellite A200-130?

Answer:Satellite A200-130: Does removing of the hidden partition void the warranty

No, definitely no!

You can delete what you want ;) you can also install a different OS.

You would lose the warranty only if you would open and disassemble the notebook or would try to upgrade non-upgradeable components like CPU for example.

Just for note; you can set the notebook back to the factory settings using the Toshiba recovery CD.

This would create a new hidden recovery partition too.

I have Satellite laptop which I bought with Vista Home Basic recovery CD two years ago. Unfortunately, because of some viruses came up I had to format it and install windows XP. In same time I have lost the original CD recovery which is came with the laptop.

Later, I wanted to come back to the original CD recovery mode. I requested once on (Toshiba Europe Backup Media Online Shop) to get the original recovery CD and I have received from them the recovery CD based on my laptop model number.

Now, When I run the recovery CD and complete the formatting and insulation steps and turn on the laptop it will always hanging (stuck) in the black screen where windows Vista is loading

What is reason of this problem? Could this because the recovery CD was wrong? Or because I should do some steps before formatting the XP and installing Vista? How I can contact Toshiba Europe Backup Media Online Shop to get help?

I have a Satellite A200-1TO.

This morning my laptop kept switching off.
I tried the usual recovery methods but was unable to get windows to load, not even in safe mode.

I popped in the recovery disk to see if I could repair windows, after mucking around I decided to do a full recovery.
Followed all the instructions, chose to format the whole drive, all seemed to go well until I got to 57% then install failed.

I went through this procedure 5 times, but windows still failed to complete, always got to 57% then was aborted.
The laptop is still under warranty, so will have to phone Tosh, me thinks it could be the HD/Drive or the DVD player.

Any ideas.

Answer:Satellite A200-1TO - Recovery breaks up on 57%

Sounds really like an HDD malfunction.
You should definitely contact the ASP in your country for an notebook check.

If the recovery procedure fails and is not possible then a hardware issue is possible?

So ask the technician for the help. If the warranty is valid then everything should be done for free!

Bye and good luck mate

Hi all,

my 6 year old Satellite A200-1YO has been replaced by a newer model and I was thinking of either wiping my A200 or resetting to factory settings.....

I don't have any disc's and as far as I can remember I never got any,

I've gone about resetting it by pressing F8 on start-up, going into Advanced Boot Options and
clicking Repair Computer,

I went into System Recovery Options, selected a keyboard layout and then onto the log in screen,

I then logged in with my password and got a screen showing the following 6 options;

1. Startup Repair
2. System Restore (similar to the option in the control panel)
3. Windows Complete PC Restore
4. Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool
5. Command Prompt
6. Restoring The Complete Windows Operating System

I assumed no. 6 was for me but it seems to need a disc, (my DVD rom is not working but I have an external one that I can use)

I went into each other option but I'm at a loss,

I thought this was going to be easy looking at all the Youtube clips but they mostly advise pressing 0 (Zero) at start up which doesn't work for me.....

help.... please

How it works with HDD recovery you can read on

This will work if your notebook still hast original recovery image saved on HDD and notebook and you didn?t change HDD partitions structure. Described procedure is HDD recovery so you don't need any DVD disc. Recovery image must be saved on HDD (original ?factory settings).

I want to re-install windows, but I am concern if I will have all the programs like: winDVD and Norton Security, and all the drivrers.

Answer:Is recovery DVD the only disc with Satellite A200-1CR

The Toshiba Recovery DVD is only the one disk which came with your notebook.
On this DVD you will find a Toshiba Recovery image which contains the Windows OS, drivers, tools and additional software.
If you want to set the notebook back to the factory settings then just boot from the Recovery disk and the installation will start.
But note; the Recovery DVD will format the whole HDD so if necessary backup the data.

The other software like Win DVD or Norton Security are OEM versions and therefore the are only on the Toshiba recovery DVD. It?s not possible to download it!

And the reovery disk came with XP. I have the key for Vista on the bottom of my laptop but i don't know how to get another copy of Vista business for the A200 to use...

Can anyone help with that..

I cant make recovery to my Satellite A200-1N5 .
When recovery DVD starts there is a message told that windows failed to start .a recent hardware or software change might be the cause (then I follow the instruction but no change happen)

Thank you.

Answer:Can not start recovery on my Satellite A200-1N5

In my opinion recovery procedure didn?t start at all. Please start your notebook and press F12 button. Keep it down for few seconds and the boot menu will be shown. Choose CD/DVD drive and press ENTER button.

If everything goes well you will heard running CD/DVD drive and activity at the screen.

I have a Satellite A200-17O. I want to restore Windows Vista to factory settings, I do not need to back up any files. I do not have the Product Recovery CD. When I press F8 and click the "Repair Computer" option, it will give me all the options, but when I click the option to fully recover the system (the one on the bottom), it will simply open up a window telling me to back up my data, then theres an "OK" button, and when I click that, the window will simply close and go back to the options menu. All I want is to get Vista back to Factory settings.

Thank you for your help.

Answer:Satellite A200-17O - How to restore Windows to factory settings?

Yes, normally you can restore your notebook back to factory settings using the HDD recovery option. Therefore you should follow the instructions here:

If it doesn?t work you have to use the Toshiba recovery disk. If your notebook didn?t come with such a recovery disk you have to create it yourself using preinstalled recovery creator tool. This is mentioned in your user manual, have you checked it?

Therefore you need some blank DVDs. I would recommend DVD-R from Verbatim or TDK. Many users here have good experience with these brands.

If you have more questions, just post again! ;)

I'm new to this thing, but if any one can help me with my problem i would be so grateful.
I have a satellite pro A200 which is about 2.5 years old and is now running really slow, and i was just wondering if it can be restored to it's orginal factory setting?? But don't have any recovery disc i have seen on the web that if you hold down the zero button while turning computer on you get HDD recovery page but for some reason this does not happen i've also tried numerous thing but none seam to work.

If anybody out there can help me i would be so grateful

Answer:How to restore Satellite Pro A200 to orginal factory settings?

What you found on the web is not relevant for all Toshiba notebook models.
I cannot say for sure but on most A200 notebooks DVD recovery was in the box.

Anyway, at first tell us exact notebook model name and model number.

Since I deleted all drives, including the 24GB recover drive, I need to restore this configuration, please direct me to an application download that I can use for this. Would have to restore the OKR functionality. The reason I deleted this was that when installing Windows 8.1 it kept listing both drives (the 24GB and the HDD) as installable drives, and wanted to default to drive 0 (24GBFlash) instead of drive 1 (HDD). In Windows logic, a OS should be installed on the 0 drive (or the drive connected to the first available sata/ide connection). If you also have an updated version of OKR for Windows 8.1 I would rather have that thankyou, I have my own 8.1 license. I have seen some answers directing us to sending in the laptop to lenovo for this. I refuse to do that.

Answer:Need to restore recovery partition and Onekey Recovery. [Y510p]

For DIY: It is possible to recreate the partitions but it will be difficult to make OKR function without a copy of the okr backup image. Also you may have misinterpreted the ssd cache as the recovery drive. So before starting to implement your plan be sure you have the correct information. Its not really as easy as you think so be careful. So without the okr image backup, your only choice is what everybody is telling you all along: send your unit to Lenovo. They're the only who can put back your system to factory default.

Im thinking of upgrading to windows vista on my Satellite Pro A200-16N, and i've ran the windows vista upgrade checker from the microsoft website and it says my system will support windows vista so im ok on that.

The problem is, if my laptop were to break or something like that at some point, will my recovery CD's that was supplied from toshiba still work on the laptop with windows vista?
Will they return the laptop to windows xp or since my laptop has a different operating system will they not work?

Whats the deal with BIOS?:S
I dont understand!
If i were to upgrade to windows vista should i update my BIOS before or after upgrading to vista?
As i have to download the new drivers before upgrading yes?

Answer:Satellite Pro A200-16N: Can I use Recovery CD after upgrade to Vista

Of course the Recovery CD will work.
The Recovery CD will set always the notebook back to the factory settings. This means that the whole HDD will be formatted and the Toshiba image will be installed.

> Whats the deal with BIOS? I don?t understand!
> If i were to upgrade to windows vista should i update my BIOS before or after upgrading to vista?
In my knowledge this notebook was already delivered with Vista therefore you don?t need to update the BIOS if you want to install Vista again.

Some A200 Satellite series needs a BIOS update if you want to use the XP.
In such case it?s advisable to update the BIOS to XP version firstly and then to install X OS.

Hi Experts,

As I have wrote before I divided my HDD 2nd partitions in to 2partitions.

Now I want to make a recovery DVD except the manufacturer provided DVD.

The reason I want that is the USER MANUAL says when we are restoring by the manufacturer Provided DVD it will FORMAT all the Partitions and revert the HDD to original state (When it come it has two partitions).

So now I'm trying to make a Recovery DVD to recover the notebook with out FORMATTING the second partitions.
I just want to format only the C drive and install the Vista OS and other manufacturer provided software.
Then the other drives will be safe and the data on those partitions will be safe.

I kindly request you to help me on this.

It's better if anybody can give me the instructions for that operation.

Thanks !!!! :8}

_Satellite Pro A200 PSAE4E Windows XP_

I started getting bad “Not-Ready” system errors on the original ODD. Toshiba Disc Creator report: TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L632H TO01. I tried the FW update, but that did not help.

I replaced the ODD with a new one from Amazon. Toshiba Disc Creator report: TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L632H SC04. The new ODD is listed as suitable in the User Manual - it’s the same model as the original. The new ODD works perfectly for normal use within XP. But when I attempt to use the Recovery Disk, it is ignored and XP always boots from the HDD. And when I press F12 during boot, the new ODD is not listed.

Can you assist me to get the ODD recognised at boot time please?

Answer:Satellite Pro A200 - New ODD ignors the Recovery disk

Have you already tried loading the default settings in BIOS and is it recognized in BIOS setup? The BIOS defaults you can load if you go into BIOS, press F9 key and save & exit BIOS setup. Then restart the computer and try it again to boot from ODD.
Can you change the boot order and set the ODD as first boot device?

If it doesn?t help I would try a BIOS update. The newest BIOS can be downloaded on official Toshiba website.

But it?s really strange the drive works properly on XP but you can?t boot from it?

Hi all,

I have a A200-1BW laptop, the issue is that its CD/DVD is not working. I have all the 3 recovery CDs for Windows Vista (Ultimate) provided by Toshiba, but I cannot restore my system. Is it possible to copy the recovery CDs on USB drive and then execute the system recovery for windows vista (ultimate).

I never tried that but I found this thread:

Check this. Maybe it would be helpful?

You can also try to install fresh copy of Windows OS using the USB pen drive.
There are many instructions how to do that with Win 7. Just google?
After installation of fresh Win 7 you could install the drivers from Toshiba European driver page.

I have a Satellite Pro A200. It is running very slowly and sometimes it freezes up when I log on.
Also the homepage has been hijacked and I have tried several anti spyware programs and they have not worked.

I have the product recovery disc but the problem the DVD rom drive has stopped working.
The light is on but it will not open unless I use the manual release.
I have removed it and checked the connections but it seems o.k.

The DVD/CD rom has disappeared from the device manager and does not show up under hardware.
I have tried system restore but this also will not work.

Is there anyway you can use the product recovery software if you boot from a USB key?

I have tried restarting the computer and choosing boot from CD but it will not give me that option.
I have looked in the bios and the only boot options that it gives are harddrive, CD rom, land and FDD

Answer:Product recovery problems on Satellite Pro A200

> Is there anyway you can use the product recovery software if you boot from a USB key?

No, this Toshiba Recovery disk cannot be copied to USB flash memory stick and used for OS installation. I?m afraid this would not work.

But if you?ve got an Microsoft Windows CD you should be able to create an bootable USB flash memory stick. In internet you will find many useful step by step instructions how to create such bootable USB stick.

But booting from USB flash memory stick should be definitely possible since the BIOS supports following bootable devices:
USB FDD, HDD, ODD, Network(LAN), USB Memory

My recovery DVD doesn't work... and have noticed this new download service and my question is...
Does this new recovery DVD come with the Vista SP1 allready installed? and does it come with the latest drivers and utilities?

Answer:Does Recovery DVD for Satellite A200-21T include Vista SP1

I do not know for sure but I am pretty sure you get just copy. That means you got the same recovery as the original one. Original one is designed maybe a year ago and at this point SP1 was not available.
I think you have OS without SP1 and with drivers, tools and utilities that was available at this time.

When you install OS you can get info about version of each Toshiba utility and you can install latest versions. You can find it on Toshiba support page.

To be honest you do not need all this stuff. Important is Value Added package. Remove preinstalled one and install latest from Toshiba download page. I have done the same.

I try to reinstall Vista and set original settings with Product Recovery cd, but with the same result - after screen with communicate about loading system files appears black screen and no action is performed. I changed boot device to dvd/cd.

I suppose it is a problem with partition settings, but don't know how to solve it. Now I have Original partition with Vista (expaned) and another in raw state. How should I change it to make Product Recovery work properly?
I will be grateful for any help.

Answer:Satellite A200 recovery does not work properly

Hi buddy,

does not sound very healthy ;). I think it would be the best when you clear the whole HDD, delete all partitions and repartition the HDD with that
wizard on the recovery DVD.

Then you can install Ubuntu on the other partition and it should run flawlessly, but be warned: don?t allow ubuntu to write the MBR of the HDD,
configure GRUB not loading from MBR.

My daughter has a Satellite Pro A200 which seems to be dead, she must be trying to get a new one!!

When I try booting from the HDD Recovery repair windows I get the message "The installed program cannot start. Click OK to turn off the computer."

I have also tried booting from the CD/DVD drive with the Recovery disc and repair computer, at which point I get - a black screen with mouse cursor eventually leading to the same message as with the HDD Recovery approach

Given both fail is this likely to be HDD failure (I had a similar issue with my wifes Dell on boot up which was HDD failure)?

Answer:Dead Satellite Pro A200 - Recovery Failure

Obviously something is wrong with preinstalled operating system and what you must do is to install operating system using Toshiba recovery image.

At first enter BIOS settings and be sure HDD is recognized properly.
Set BIOS to default settings and start recovery image installation:
Switch notebook ON and press F12 several times
When boot menu is shown put recovery disc in optical disc drive
Press ENTER and follow the menu on the screen.

If you will not be able to install recovery image it can be that HDD is the ?troublemaker?.
HDD replacement is not big deal and you can exchange it alone in 10 minutes only.

I have a Toshiba A200 and have tried to recover to factory default settings using the supplied Toshiba recovery CDs. I can't get it to work...

At first the recovery seems to be working fine and it copies files from the first recovery CD (1of2). I then get a message "Please insert next media and press OK to continue" and the CD tray opens. When I insert the second CD (2of2), it spins as if trying to read, then opens the tray and again gives the message "Please insert next media and press OK to continue".

I thought perhaps it was a dodgy CD2, but when trying to recover from the hard drive partition without using the CDs (i.e. pressing 0 at start-up and following instructions for out-of-box state) I get the same message. Surely if I'm recovering from the HDD then I shouldn't have to insert any media?

I have tried this a number of times and get the same message. Also, sometimes after inserting CD2, I get the message "Error copying file or folder. Cannot copy PREINST001: Data Error (Cyclic redundancy check)."

I would be eternally grateful for any help on this one!

I am trying to restore my Toshiba laptop Satellite A200-28P (Windows Vista Home) using the product recovery disk supplied with the laptop, no matter what I try to do I cannot get it to run, the only thing it will allow me to do is restore the laptop to an earlier date. I cannot find the recovery console any where on the laptop yet I know it was there before. I have tried many of the solutions found on the web but none of them work. I did use the recovery disc about 2 1/2 years ago when the laptop crashed and it worked fine then.

Hello. I hope someone can help me with the following... This week I've had various issues with my laptop following a Vista update that System Restore did not fix, so I decided to go for a full Product Recovery (as I have a full backup of all my files).

So far I have used product recovery on my laptop in each of the 3 ways I can see (and more than once): without changing settings, changing settings and maximising the partition, changing settings and selecting the advance / expert option.

Each time I was able to complete the initialisation of windows, creating a new user account, etc. Once the desktop has been set up, I get a small window with a progress bar and when this completes I click the 'restart' button...

After restarting I get to the black screen that says Microsoft Corporation with the green progress bar, but it stays there for what feels like 'too long'. After a while I get a black screen with a cursor and then a blue screen for a crash dump.

If I use F8 and start in Safe Mode, the system stops at the CplIR.sys file, although hard disk activity seems to continue. After 10+ minutes I switch off.

If I use F8 and then select Repair Computer... this is what happens with each option
- Restore the complete windows operating system: after clicking OK nothing happens.
- Memory diagnostics: there are no problems with the memory
- DOS prompt: I have run CHKDSK and there are no problems with the hard drive

Answer:Satellite A200 - can't use Vista after Product Recovery

It is very interesting story. I have recovered several notebooks many times but I have never noticed something like this.
I must say that all you have done right and you think in right way. If I were you I would try exactly the same steps to get it work somehow.
I don't know which ?various issues? you had before but I presume there issues were just ?software issues? and not relevant for hardware functionality.

It is really hard to say what the problem can be. What you can try is obtain somewhere Microsoft Vista installations disc and install ?naked? Vista to see if the same will happen again.
Anyway, the fact is that recovery images are tested and adapted for each notebook model and if the hardware is OK there is no reason for such behaviour.

Try with clean installation using Microsoft installations disc and let us know what happen exactly.

Hi To All,

I have here an A200 the owner said it just stopped working, it gives the "BOOTMGR is missing" message, it was running Vista basic. Vista recovery disk found no operating system (the recovery program wrote a couple of Notepad files on the drive which appear to be the only things on it) installing the drive in an external enclosure and trying it on another computer shows that the only files are the Notepad ones. A disk check program found a few bad sectors.

I intend to replace the drive, my question is what can I do re. the operating system, it had a legal copy of Vista, but came from Harvey Norman with no recovery disks (should disks have been supplied?) do I need to purchase a new copy of the operating system.

Thanks for any suggestions.

My laptop would not boot this morning, so I hit CTRL-ALT-DEL to restart, I got the splash screen telling me to push F2 or F12, let it go and the laptop stopped at a black screen with a flashing cursor in the top left corner.
I had done a backup two days ago, so decided it was time to do a factory restore and clean up the disk.
I shut it down, then pushed the 0 (zero) key and tapped the power button, as per the instructions. When it beeped, I let go of the button adn it now said:
A disk read error ocurred
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

And at the bottom is:

I got this Satellite A200 PSAF0A-04X019 from a family member, who didn't create recovery disks when setting the laptop up.

Can I do anything to access the recovery partition and run a file manually, or is its beyond repair??

Answer:How to start recovery installation on Satellite A200?

If you cannot start HDD recovery installation on ?regular way? there is no other chance to have access to recovery image.
To be honest I don?t know what this error means exactly. I don?t know if there is some problem with HDD or recovery image.

What you can do now is to install own OS and later download all drivers, tools and utilities alone or try to contact Toshiba service provider and ask if they can order one recovery DVD for you.

After I read the manual and found that I need to create a recovery disk from the tools provided. However, the problem start here:

1. When I click on "Recovery Disc Creator", a message is display "no HDD Recovery Area!, The toshiba Recovery Disc creator can not be lauched."

2. Then I call up the service support center and was advise that there is an issue with the "Recovery Disc Creator" and I should recover the LAPTOP using the recovery from hard disk partition (Hold 0 when power-up the system) and the following step is carry out:
a. the LAPTOP is boot into the recovery screen function.
b. When I try "restore windows PC" (option 3), it's display and error about file not found.
c. When I try click on "restore from recovery disk" (option 5), it's asking me to put in the recovery disc which I don't have?!?

Answer:Satellite A200 - Recovery Disk issues

Hi Thomas

I?ve got a A200 European model (don?t know what you model is) and the A200 was NOT equipped with the HDD recovery option!!! This means you cannot create your own Recovery Disk!!
My notebook was delivered with the Toshiba Vista recovery DVD!!

Fact is that your hidden partition 1.46 GB is not the Toshiba recovery partition but the Vista hidden partition. It contains the WinRE files which are helpful to repair the OS if something will go wrong!

Secondly the Toshiba recovery folder is too big for the 1.46 GB partition!!!
So it?s not possible that it would be placed on this partition!!!

So finally it seems that you will be not able to create the own recovery disk and therefore you will have to order it from the ASP in your country.

When I hold 0 and turn on the laptop, rather than beep and the warning screen, it only takes me to the windows boot manager page
So I pressed F8 and choose repair computer, I read that I can also start the recovery process by choosing toshiba recovery wizard
But when I press the recovery wizard, the cdrom eject and tells me to put in the recovery CD (which I dont have)

What annoys me is that I checked that the recovery partition is there but I cant find a way to start the process
Anyone know the solution? Or there is another button to press when booting the machine?

Many thanks!

I need help.

I currently own a Satellite A200 and I contain the recovery disc. I got 2 harddisks, 1 with vista, 1 with all non install stuff like music. I want to formatt both disks with the recovery disk. I've formatted the C drive with vista before, but I dont remember how again.

I booted the notebook with the recovery disc, eventually came to the system repair mode.. but what's the next step? I must formatt and get the stuff to fabric settings.

Please help me

Answer:How To Formatt Satellite A200 With Recovery Disc

When you use recovery disc for operating system installation the first HDD will be formatted completely. That means all partitions and data will be gone. The second HDD can be formatted in Vista.

So now install OS again using recovery image.
Start your notebook and press F12 ? the bootable devices will be listed
Put the recovery media into optical disc drive
Choose CD/DVD on the list and press ENTER
Follow the menu on the screen (mostly you must press NEXT button)

When the OS installations is finished and you can start Vista, enter Windows Explorer (WIN+E key combination. Click on second HDD there with right mouse button and choose option ?Format...?.

That?s all!

When I first got this product, before opening I thought that all the 500gb would go to the first partition, but then I saw that the recovery partition has half of the 500gb just for recovery which is unnessecery.

But I had no problem with this at the time, and used the recovery partition(after saving to a disk) for ubuntu so I could have a dual boot.

But now I've came to realise that the games I'm downloading are taking more and more room up on my C drive. The problem I have is that I can shrink my recovery partition and enlarge the C drive.

Does anyone know a work around?

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-225: Shrinking recovery partition englarge C partition

You will need an 3rd party software to shrink the recovery partition and to add the free space the existing C partition.
I would recommend you an freeware tool called Gparted

But before you would start doing this, create a recovery disk!
This is advisable in case you would try to set the notebook back to factory settings using such disk.

Tried to restore my Satellite A200 to 'out of box settings' but it has not worked.

It comes up with the message saying to put in windows installation disc, so I put in recovery disc but nothing happens apart from the laptop suddenly switching off!!

Its windows vista.
Any ideas anyone??x

Answer:Satellite A200 - Factory setting restore didnt work

> It comes up with the message saying to put in windows installation disc...
Your problem description confuses me a little bit.
When you want to install recovery image using recovery DVD you must boot up from this DVD and not wait for some message that tells you for inserting recovery disc.

Please do as follow:
# Switch your notebook ON and press F12 to enter boot menu
# When boot menu is shown on the screen put recovery DVD into optical disc drive
# In boot menu choose CD/DVD drive and press ENTER. This will force ODD to run as first bootable device.
# Follow the menu on the screen.

When you see option for recovery language just confirm with NEXT and continue recovery installation.

Can some one help me?

I have a toshiba Satellite A200-1RK Laptop.
Usualy when i click on where it says MY Computer i get three things up they are Vista C and dvd rw drive E and Local drive F.

But after a virus on my laptop and only way to get rid was a total recovery that i did okay.
But after that i have noticed that the local drive F is no longer there when i click on my computer the other two are still there.

Can anyone help and can understand what i am on about

Answer:Satellite A200-1RK: Local drive F is not available after recovery process

1) Click on the Start menu
2) Right click on Computer and click on Manage
3) open up the Storage category and click on Disk Management. Here, you will find your partition(s) for your disk.
I don't know what you have there exactly, but I guess that your F drive is ,,Unlocated,,. Right click on it, choose ,,make new partiton,, and follow the steps. It will appear.

I have moved since purchasing this laptop, and the recovery disk I made after purchasing it has gone missing! I called Toshiba, however it is approx. 50$ to replace the recovery CD from them. Does anybody have one they could send me an image of? I would greatly appreciate it!

The HDD in my Toshiba Satellite A200 PSAF6A-0US01N is not recognised in the machine or by any other computer, therefore I cannot run any windows/toshiba repair.

I know the drives have a factory reset hidden on the drive and to press 0 on power up but with the drive unreadable how do I repair my installation of Windows Vista?

Answer:Satellite A200 PSAF6A - HDD is not recognised. No Product recovery

If the HDD is not recognized by BIOS nor by other notebooks, then I would say that your HDD is faulty.
In such case you have to replace the HDD.
In such case you will not be able to start the recovery procedure from HDD because it malfunctions as already said?

You are from Australia? If you need a recovery disk then I recommend contacting the local Toshiba ASP to get such disk?

My computer was working OK. To speed it up, I decided to reformat the hard disk using the recovery DVD provided by Toshiba. The recovery failed. I have tried many many ways but keep having the same problem i.e. the process goes into a loop.

What happens can be summarized as follows: When I power-on the computer using the recovery DVD in disk drive, the computer goes into loading the windows files and then formats the hard disk, but stops about 18% through the progress. Everytime this happens the problem starts at (X:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe) where it is at ImageX Tools for Windows; and mentions that C:Program Files\Toshiba\HD2Go\sea160s_HD.wmv........WimCopyF ileEx failed. Other errors are: Error restoring image; The Drive is not ready; and ERROR: ImageX could not apply VISTA E:\05006XSP.swm Index 2 from ODD to C:\!; press any Key......And the screen goes white. There is another screen window when ithis happens, which says Administrator: X:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe open in DOS. After closing this window the Screen goes blank and the computer for while and then opens in a window called Windows Boot Manager, and says that windows failed to start, winload could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.

If I try booting from the recovery HDD, there is no success. I tried powering the computer while pressing C, or pressing 0(zero) or F8, but no success. I can not go to the page where I can repair the HDD as mentioned in the users manual.

Satellite A200-1VP
Can anyone please help me?
I used the Toshiba recovery disc yesterday and ended up with a far worse situation than I started with!
The process worked for about 15 minutes and then I got a message that the installation couldn't be completed due to corrupted files.

Great - I tried running the process again but it just came up with the same message straight away.
I then installed Windows7 so that I have an operating system & that seems to be working OK but, of course, I've lost all the drivers that came with the laptop.

Given the number of posts concerning problems with system recovery, I'm really surprised and disappointed that a company with the reputation of Toshiba seems unable to provide its customers with a reliable method of recovery.

Does anybody know if there is some way that I can reinstall the required drivers please?

I am not a very experienced user and I'm certainly not as young as I was so, if you are able to help, would you please explain it very simply!!

you for any help you are able to give me.

Answer:Satellite A200-1VP: Recovery installation couldn't be completed

Hi mate

First of all it?s really pity that you could not finish the recovery installation.
I have recovered my two different Toshiba notebooks and every time the recover ran properly and could be finished? so it?s definitely everything ok with the recover process and possibly damaged files were responsible for your issue?

However, I have installed also a fresh Win 7 on my A210 notebook and in most cases the Win 7 has recognized all devices automatically and I didn?t need to install all drivers.

But I installed VAP (value added package) and flash card support utility which I could download from Toshiba European driver page. But chosen the L500 series because I could not find the VAP and flash card support utility for A210. However, it worked.

Ohh? I forgot to say that I had to install the Bluetooth stack? I found this here:

I have Toshiba Satellite A200. Hard drive died and changed it to a new one.

If I buy the product recovery disc will it work and install windows vista home premium that came with the machine?

Answer:Satellite A200 - Recovery disk will install Windows?

Hi spiropi,

Yes, the Toshiba recovery disk will install the original operating system that came with the notebook. Toshiba recovery disk works always even you have changed the HDD. The disk contains an image of factory settings with all drivers and tools so everything will be installed automatically and you get out of box settings back.

So you can order such a disk and you can the original settings back on your new HDD. :)

This is driving me mad.
I have two A200 laptops that were issued to staff. They have left and the laptops were completely OK.

Before I issue the laptops to new staff I format and re-install the operating system and software. Simple I thought, I have the recovery DVD. I rebooted with the DVD in gone through the process all seems to be well. It reboots into windows get to the first windows XP screen with the green dots just underneath. I then get a very quick flash of a blue screen and the laptop reboots and then keeps going through with the quick blue screen.
This happens on both A200 I have.

If I try and load windows XP from our retail copy of windows, it always says no disks can be detected. Again it happens on both. I hear you say-?its the hard drive?. Well it is not the hard drive. I have removed the drive placed it into another laptop and a PC installed windows and it runs as it should, this is both hard drives. With the hard drives in the original A200 laptops I can install Linux (unbuntu) without any errors. I run disk checks all is OK.
The Toshiba guys say it is a virus! Seems to be the answer to everything they cannot solve over the phone!

I love theses laptops, they have been very good for us here, would love to get them working again. They are two years old so out of warranty.
The BIOS version is 5.20
Any help would be great

Answer:Re: Satellite A200 - Recovery disk gives blue screen

It's a little bit difficult to say what happens to your laptops, but if i have such installation problems, I wipe hard disk with cd bootable media from Acronis, Acronis drive Cleanser

or East-Tec DisposeSecure

These software are shareware and need to be activated in order to make a bootable media.

I wipe a hard disk, then install original Windows copy for my clients. If they have problems with ODD, I make a bootable usb drive (if Bios supports) or over Lan installation. By the way, have you tried to install from a bootable usb flash drive.

Talking about viruses, it also can take place that's why the hdd wipe is recommended. In our service, we also answer like this by phone like Toshiba guys say. Believe me, it's not easy to solve problems by phone, the problem is that many customers can't describe malfunction properly!

Looks like something is going wrong with the partitions on the HDD.
I recommend using an MS Windows XP disk or another bootable disk and to format the HDD firstly!
After that you could use the recovery disk again in order to reinstall the OS on this notebook.

Hi, new here first thread.

My issue is with my satellite a200-ah1.
Here is whats happening.

One day i decided to turn on my laptop and nothing.
It was brought to future shop as soon as the problem happened they said the motherboard needed to be replaced its $200+ and labour on top of that .... so i bought a new laptop. Now i want to fix this one because its pretty new and is a great laptop.

I took it apart and the great techs that know everything aparently dont know how tight to put screws. Many screws where ovfertightened and broke the tabs with the little nuts inside but i managed to crazy glue the pplastic tabs back, put it all together and all screws are tight again so far.
I checked everything over and over tried different ram, no ram, hdd, no hdd and the list goes on trying to narrow down what component was causing a problem.
I never got a beep or any signs of signal or power going to the screen when trying different ram and removing it.
I press the power and i get the blue power light on and the fan would turn on about half speed for seconds then stop no matter what i did to it.

Now i was ready to try doing a bios crisis recovery with a usb floppy drive.
When i held Fn+b and press the power button i got the purple light to go on, caps lock light went on with couple other green light on keyboard.
Now i thought i was getting somewhere but the disk drive light just wont power.

So i tried with usb flash drive and samething.

Answer:Satellite A200-AH1 - phoenix BIOS crisis recovery, before even doing this..

It is not easy to offer some precise diagnostic but I think there is serious hardware problem and you will not be able to fix it with this ?standard? procedure as BIOS repair or memory module/HDD exchange.

Long time ago I had similar problem on my Satellite M and in my case CPU was defective. After CPU exchange I was able to start notebook again. So maybe is the same problem on your notebook. Obtain used but well working CPU on eBay, exchange it and try to start your notebook.

I don?t know if you can do this alone but CPU exchange is very sensitive work and should be done by someone who knows how to do this.

I'm working on a Satellite A200, which doesn't have any recovery disks, and now seems to have a messed up Vista installation.
Before I started working on it, I created backup images of the Hard drives 3 partitions (C:\, TOSHIBA SYSTEM VOLUME & HDDRECOVERY) which I have saved on another computer.
My question is, can I create recovery disks from these images? The machine they are saved on triple boots XP, Vista & W7, they were created using ShadowProtect Desktop.
I can mount the images into either OS...

Answer:Satellite A200 - Burn recovery disks from HD image?

As far as I know it can be problematic now. Recovery media can be created when notebook has ?factory settings?. That means available "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator" tool and recovery image placed on second partition.

When you move this recovery image somewhere else and put it back later it can happen that "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator" cannot find the files anymore.

After reformatting my laptop the toshiba recovery discs will not reload windows because it says i do not have enough room on my hard drive.

The error message is as follows:
There is not enough space on S3A6134D502. You need an additional 2.34 GB to copy these files.
Space free: 1.42 GB
Total size: 1.46 GB

It seems that it created a new partition that makes it not possible to load windows on because the partition is too small.

Answer:Recovery disc error on Satellite A200 - not enough space

Problem is that you have changed ?standard? settings for recovery procedure.
First partition on the HDD is so called ?WinRE? partition and this partition has 1,5 GB capacity.
When you start recovery procedure and just click on OK or NEXT everything will went well.

I presume you have chosen ?Setup? option and there clicked on second option to install OS on existing partition.

What you probably want to do is to install OS on partition C only in hope second or all other partitions will not be deleted or formatted. Right?
I have tested it several times on P200 and A200.

This will not work so only option is to erase whole HDD and before recovery installation starts all existing data and partitions will be deleted and formatted.
So before you start OS installation backup all important data and install OS without changing anything.

I bought a Satellite A200-QH0 model in Australia and due to lack of forums in our country I'd like to ask some questions here if that's ok.

The notebook contains 3 partitions - a 1.6GB "EISA Configuration" partition, the large OS partition, and the recovery partition. So I've made the recovery DVD???s using the Recovery Disc Creator tool as we aren't supplied with an actual disc. But I would like to know what these discs will do? My questions:

1. Will they truly return the hard drive back to _exactly_ how it was including the partition layout and pre-installed software?
2. Will the recovery DVDs work even if the drive has been repartioned? I would like to split the system partition to give space for data files etc. But will this extra partition stop the recovery procedure working properly?

Please understand that I'm not interested in reformatting the entire drive. I just want to split the OS partition. But in case I have to replace the drive in the future or something I'd like to know how close to "original" these discs will get me, no matter what I do to the drive?

Answer:Questions about recovery discs and partitioning Satellite A200-QH0

I?m not 100% sure how the recovery works on the Toshiba Australian notebooks but I presume the Recovery CD contains the Toshiba image with the Windows OS, drivers, tools and utilities.
I think if you would use the Recovery CD then the whole HDD will be formatted and all partitions will be erased.

I think the recovery partition will be not created using the recovery CD because the recovery CD was already created? so the recovery partition is not necessary anymore?

Hi I have a Satellite A200 that was delivered with a 'product recovery cd'. I recently have had an infection/trojan/spyware of some sort as the windows defender has been taken over by something other (plenty of abnormal error messaes and asking me to buy the full version). I am no expert but i surely know that windows defender is a free program.

Anyway, please could someone give me advice on the best way to overcome this. i.e. the best option to use. Is there anyway I can back up the files I have (apart from using an external HD drive).

Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite A200 - How to use recovery disk and backup all files?

_How to use the recovery disk?_
That?s pretty easy: Insert the disk and boot from it ? That?s all!
Furthermore you have to follow the screen instructions and make some clicks but that?s really all!

_How to backup the files?_
First of all I?m wondering that you ask for that. You didn?t make a backup as yet? What do you do if your HDD crashes on next morning?

Anyway, the Toshiba recovery disk wipes your whole HDD. That means you have to save your files on an additional drive. Everything on the internal HDD will be deleted.

You don?t want to use an external HDD?! Why?

It is very unfortunate that after reinstalling the product recovery disc of my Satellite A200 the language now is in Deutsch. Since that I have to return the recovery disk to Toshiba Center for a replacement, do you think thank they will replace it with an English version? If so does it will affect the whole notebook in its performance or maybe some pre-instaled program might be gone or miss.

Do product recovery disc is standard for the same model unit since there is no product key requires?

Answer:Is the Product Recovery Disc for Satellite A200 standard?

Hi there,

first of all, if you purchased a english machine then you have a english recovery. If you have a german machine then you have a german recovery. Thats simple and easy, so please don?t tell me that you have bought a english machine and a german recovery because thats impossible. Even if you had a nearly complete english interface (the interface of windows can be configured)

If you?ve got an german version they won?t replace it with an english since thats no warranty issue nor any other problem.
The product recovery is not for every unit, the recovery you have for your machine is only intended for your machine and no other. The key is embedded in this OEM version of windows.

If I were you I would avoid installing some another recovery on my machine because THAT could affect your machine?s performance (except the same product recovery for your model but in english, this will work)

I have a Satellite A200-1H2 notebook with a Windows Vista Home system.
Computer was never connected with Internet and I used it only for doc writing, playing music and watching movies. It worked good until yesterday.

After turning on, there was a massage "c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe" corrupted (missed? sorry, i don't remember).

So I have used Toshiba Product Recovery DVDs and after reinstalation system reboot. And now i have a "Startup Repair" massage, which is:
"Windows cannot repair this computer automatically" and below:
"If you have recently attached a device to this computer, such as a camera or portable music player, remove it and restart the your computer. If you continue to to see this massage, contact..... bla, bla, bla. .... Click finish to exit and shut down your computer".

It's strange cos I have no device attached to my computer nor it was while recovering system.

After pressing "View diagnostics and repair details" another popup shows and it says, that all test "completed succesfully" (the last one is "Setup state check") and that
"Root cause found
Failure while setup is in progress"

What i have to do now? I don't have any bootable Windows Vista DVD.

Please heeeeelp!

PS. Sorry for my poor english :)

Hi there,

I am by no mean techologically minded, so please bear with me. My computer failed to start and I received a message saying that the boot had failed.

When I took it to my computer technician at university, he said that I will need the original disc that came with the computer as the hard drive is 'sick' and he will want to reinstall all the software. I cannot locate this disc for the life of me, and wondered if the media is downloadable or whether toshiba can provide a replacement. Well I've gotten it back only she installed a lot of stuff on to the point where it's chugging on vista even after my attempts to clean it up I decided start the laptop by using the recovery disk creation that came with the laptop.

However now I have used about 8 dvd disks trying to create a good disk but i restart the p. with the disk in .. nothing happens. I try to run it directly through vista...and it says cannot read disk. I have recreated the disk several times and the same result and well this was the only type of recover disk that came with the laptop.]

Also as i have gotten it back when i use the touch pad my cursor is jumping all over the place, is that fixable?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry but in your posting something must be wrong. As far as i know Satellite A200 is delivered with original Toshiba recovery DVD. You must not create anything. Newer notebooks like A300 are NOT delivered with recovery DVD and every notebook user must create it alone but not with Toshiba Disc Creator. For this purposes Toshiba offer another tool. The name is ?Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator?. It is not the same tool. So you should have probably original Toshiba disc.

So if you have it please use this recovery DVD as described in this thread:
