Satellite Pro C660-29W: BIOS won't let me enter the supervisor password

Question: Satellite Pro C660-29W: BIOS won't let me enter the supervisor password

Computer is a satellite pro C660-29W PSC1ME-00U00KEN

I've set a BIOS supervisor password (no user password is set). I know the password.

If I hit F2 it enters the text editor but does not give any opportunity to enter the password, and so whilst I can view everything there is no way to change anything.

Any suggestions?

Preferred Solution: Satellite Pro C660-29W: BIOS won't let me enter the supervisor password

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,
I have been locked out of my bios and I don't know the password either. My little brother was playing with my laptop and accidently set the supervisor password. Is there any way I can recover the password or reset it? I really need to change my boot sequence as I just bought a new SSD and need to format my notebook. Suggestions will be highly appreciated.

The following are my laptop details and bios version

Toshiba satellite Pro C660-29W

CPU Intel Core i5 2410M

8GB DDR3 Ram

BIOS: AMI BIOS - Aptio Setup Utility
System Bios ver: 1.50
EC Version: 1.50

Thank you

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-29W; How to remove Supervisor Password

Supervisor password is very important security feature and some kind of ?user reset? is not possible. You can cancel it but you must know the right password to confirm that you are the real notebook owner.

Toshiba service provider in your country can help you with this. You must just approve that you are notebook owner and they can cancel it for you. Of course you must pay for it.

As far as I know there are several techniques for password removal and it depends on notebook model.

Contact nearest Toshiba ASP and ask for help.

When entering the BIOS, I am first prompted for the hard disk password (the appropriate icon is shown). I am then prompted for the power on password (the appropriate icon is show) which is NOT enabled in the BIOS. Simply pressing the Enter key get me to the BIOS but without the ability to change any settings. I've tried a number of methods but never see the supervisor icon password prompt. I tried the documented approach of disabling power on password (it was set initially). The hard disk and supervisor password are the same and 18 characters long.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro S300-11Y laptop and have a problem. A day, I decided that wanted to set a supervisor password for the bios of the laptop. Now, I remeber this password, but when I entry to the BIOS setup, I can't view any option for change o disable this password. I can't entry this password for set it me a supervisor, and also I can't modify some options as for exemple, the boot sequence.

How can I delete this password or how can I login as supervisor? I don't see any option for it, and I need to modify the boot sequence.

A lot of thanks.

Answer:Satellite Pro S300 - How to enter supervisor password?

About this I can only say check your user manual!!! ;)

There I have founded the following information:
+C:\Program Files\Toshiba\PassowrdUtility\TOSPU.exe+
+This utility lets you do the following:+
+Register, delete or change the supervisor password+
+Create or invalidate a supervisor password token+

Check this and then you should be able to delete the password if you know the current.

I've just taken delivery of an R500 with Xubuntu installed.

I need to get into the BIOS to change some settings. I know the supervisor password and I know that normall one presses ESC and then F1 to get into the BIOS. Unfortunately, I don't get the option to enter the supervisor password - it just puts me straight into the 'User' settings.

I'm also having problems getting the F12 boot device settings to work.

The manual suggests that I use the Windows Configuration utility to adjust some of the bIOS settings, however - I'm not running windows ...

Any thoughts?

Answer:Portege R500: Enter BIOS with known supervisor password

Thats far as I know you will had have windows installed to access some further bios options.

The problem is there is no other software then this windows configuration utility and the common moduls which can access the hardwarelayer.

So, if you want to change something you will have to use windows.. :/

Hint: you can use another HDD where you can install Windows. Maybe a good way to keep ubuntu on the harddisk

Have a Satellite PRO S300 (PSSB0A-06500T) which is BSOD-ing with Stop 7B and I want to get into the full part of the BIOS so I can reset boot order to enable me to re-install Win XP.

Esc - F1 just gets me into the restricted part of Page 1 of the ACPI BIOS set-up. I know the Supervisor password! So how do I get to a password prompt that will allow me into both pages of the BIOS set-up.

I have tried F12 on boot to attempt to get into the boot options on the Toshiba splash screen, but that does not work.

I moved the supervisor password in the BIOS Password and saved the changes by pressing F10.

By the way: The Toshiba HWSetup is preinstalled on most Toshiba notebooks.

I own a Toshiba Satellite C855-12K and there is a problem with BIOS supervisor password. Once I have set the password I was unable to access BIOS anymore because it says that the password is incorrect.
I am 100% positively sure that the password im putting in is the one I've set in BIOS before because i used the same password to lock my hard drive.

Somewhere online I've read that this version of BIOS has a bug that makes it unable to remember password.
Is there any solution to this or I have to send my laptop to Toshiba?
OS is windows 7 professional-

Answer:Satellite C855-12K - incorrect BIOS supervisor password

Unfortunately there is no some ?magic? solution. I cannot comment some speculations about BIOS bug but if there is some problem with BIOS Toshiba service provider must be informed about it.

I recommend you to contact nearest authorized Toshiba service provider and ask for help. They can remove your password.

This password protection is very serious security feature and public forum is not the best place to write about ways how it can be removed.

Hi, I'm hoping that someone can help me with this issue - I have a toshiba L755 laptop, and was setting up the security protocols on the bios but was unable to set up the supervisor password.

I registered the user password, as well as the hdd password - both user and master passwords worked for the hdd password, but when I try to select (by pressing the down arrow from the user password on the bios password section) the supervisor password, it just skips over it.

Please, any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried to set supervisor password using option in ?Toshiba Assist? > secure > Supervisor password? It is small Toshiba utility designed for supervisor password registration.

The usual message - The serial number is invalid.

could be that the problem has something to do with the hardware utilitly. So it doesn?t make it better when the error message "The serial number is invalid." appears but it could be the solution for this problem.

I would suggest you to check these threads which could maybe help you:

I'm having a problem with a Toshiba Satellite L300D. After I reinstalled the HDD it would beep. To solve this I went into BIOS to look and see if the board had some sort of intrusion setting. When I exited the BIOS and restarted I know get the Enter Current Password (with a blue background on a black screen) with continuos beeps. The thing is it seems to auto enter in 10 characters (*) and then stop. There are no other options.

I have searched unsuccessfully for any info about this and I cant even find where the CMOS is located which I think is soldered onto the board.

Has anybody had any similar experience like this?
I would really appreciate any help its driving me crazy.

Hey guys, I have a Lenovo ThinkPad 11e 20DA series laptop.  I know my supervisor password.  The issue is that I can't make any changes in my BIOS.  It ALLLL started when I updated my BIOS with the latest version.  I selected my laptop and model and version from the Lenovo website, selected windows 10 and BIOS, and downloaded the update utility.  It did its thing.  And now I cant make any changes in the BIOS. NOTHING!!  And my laptop doesn't prompt me for a supervisor password.  I know to press F1 when the logo comes on and that it'll take me to BIOS or that it's suppose to prompt me for the password, however, it just simply doesnt do it.  What do I do? Answer:Can't Enter Into Supervisor Mode of BIOS

You may need to contact Lenovo Support directly if it is not prompting for a password, and yet also not letting you into the BIOS as the result of one of their BIOS updates.   They may take care of it for you, but unfortunatelly just removing the CMOS battery will not help. From page 34 of the hardware maintenance manual linked below: Supervisor passwordA supervisor password protects the system information stored in the ThinkPad Setup. The user must enter the supervisor password in order to get access to the ThinkPad Setup and change the system configuration.  Attention: If the supervisor password has been forgotten and cannot be made available to the service technician, there is no service procedure to reset the password. few days ago I bought one Thinkpad T60. All is fully functional excepting of one issue with BIOS password. It seems there is no password set previously since I can entry the BIOS menu and set all particular entries w/o any problem. Hovewer when I come to the point to set a BIOS password, the BIOS freezes suddently. Can anybody know what could be the reason for that? Is there some solution how to fix it? Thanks

Go to Solution.

Answer:can`t open password tab to set a supervisor password in security menu of BIOS. BIOS freezes

Sounds like your have a supervisor password set already. You can set a supervisor password and still allow access to the bios by users with options of what settings they can change. If you do have an unknown bios password set, then the only option is to replace or repair the system board.  If you don't have a password set and you're still having unstability problems like this, then you may have a more serious problem. If the computer works well and exhibits no stabality problems in windows, then you could try reflashing the bios, but be careful, if a system freezes or crashes during the bios flash it will become unusable, but if you're already looking at needing a new system board, then you don't have much to lose.  Good Luck

Give them a call and ask if they put BIOS passwords on their laptops.

If they say no, then you should send the laptop to an Authorized Service Center. There is a list of ASP's on the Toshiba website in the support section.

Can someone please help,

I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite C660/C660D for my nephew, We have forgotten the administrator password and we don't have password reset disk is there anyway around this.

Answer:I forgot my administrator password on Satellite C660/C660

I assume you are talking about windows system password and not about BIOS password. Right?
It?s not very big problem if you forgotten the System password but if you mean BIOS password then you are in trouble because the BIOS password can be deleted just by an Toshiba ASP technicians?

So I assume you mean Windows password? so start the notebook and press F8
Now you can choose Repair my Computer and then choose HDD recovery.
This would start a HDD recovery procedure which would reinstall the system? during the setup you can set anther admin password.

Of course there are some other methods but as far as I know this requires 3rd party software/tools or Win 7 DVD? so I think the HDD recovery is the fastest solution.

Hello, Problem 1:I've set the supervisor password some time ago on my T450s. I think I used the special character "!" which was accepted at that time, but I'm not sure anymore today. Now after severeal BIOS updates the "!" only leads to a beep of the system and I also tried all of my standard-passwords without "!" , but without success. Problem 2:Now I've tried to roll back to older BIOS versions to try if one of these accepts the "!". But every version I tried leads to a "secure flash authentication failed"-error after the reboot of the laptop to actually flash the BIOS. The following link says its the Rollback Prevention Enabled, but I checked in BIOS and it's clearly disabled. Now I have no idea how to proceed. Has anyone seen that the BIOS has accepted special characters like "!"?Are there other T450s which are not able to rollback to older BIOS versions with the above mentioned error? Technical Infos:- Model: ThinkPad T450s 20BW-S03E00 (the one with Intel graphics only and a core i5-5200)- BIOS: 1.29(JBET65WW) Thanks in advance!  Best regards,Linus123

Hello all,

I'm in a bit of a bind. I'm working on a computer that needs the boot order changed, so I can install an OS upgrade (2000 to XP Pro) and I can't get into the BIOS without the supervisor password. The individual who had/worked on the computer before has long gone, so that option is out. The default stuff won't work (admin, exec, password...and so on). I seem to remember that you can dislodge the battery, or switch the jumpers (although different motherboards might have different stuff), but It's been several years since I've had this problem and I can't remember the solution.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

There is no solution to a lost supervisor password other than replacing the motherboard.  As far as the HDD password, it is encrypted in the BIOS but the encryption algorithm is the same on most models of a similar age.  (You don't say what model you have.)  If you have another machine or anything T400 or newer with an ultrabay, you can remove the password there

Answer:Bios Supervisor Password on Qosmio F30?

As far as I know this option you can find when you start Toshiba Assist > Secure tab. There you will find shortcut for Supervisor password Utility.

Just follow the instructions on the screen and please be careful which word you will set for password.

Answer:Do you have a vb script to set a new BIOS Supervisor Password?

It is not possible to set a password with the WMI interface when a password does not already exist.  This is for security reasons.  Otherwise it would be possible to have malware which runs in Windows, sets passwords that you don't know, and locks you out of your system. It can be done in DOS.  Some customers boot a DOS disk as part of their unboxing procedure to set a known password.  Then they can change it by WMI later (if they want to).  Some large customers order their systems from the Lenovo factory with a known password installed, talk to your account manager if you fall into that category.

I am deploying Lenovo T400 with Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager and would like to set the Supervisor password with SCCM07 unattaned.
I saw that you supply a tool called WindowsBiosSettings wich is a commandline tool for among other thing change the Supervisor password.
The thing is when our Lenovo T400 arrives from our supplier the Supervisor password is empty.
With the WindowsBiosSetting tool you cant change Supervisor password from an empty password to a password of your choise. The tool will reject a empty password.
With our other computers from other vendors they supply a tool for us to change the Supervisor password.
Help anyone?

In the Thinkpad BIOS, is there any way to access the pre-boot environment with only the supervisor password if a HDD password is also set? I note that at least on my machine (X1 Carbon 5th Gen), with both a supervisor password and a hard disk1 user password set (I have set different passwords for each), I am always prompted first for the HDD password to enter any pre-boot environment, including:BIOS (pressing F1 at Lenovo screen)the boot order menu (pressing F12 at Lenovo screen)the boot options menu (pressing enter at Lenovo screen)However, for any of these functions, I am not accessing the disk drive and not booting into the drive, but rather trying to access only the pre-boot environment in the BIOS. So why does the system ask for the HDD password? I can see a scenario where perhaps one needs to boot via USB for troubleshooting, or the HDD password is forgotten or some other issue where only the BIOS needs to be entered and not the disk drive.  Is there perhaps a certain key press at the HDD password prompt to switch to a "BIOS only" mode? (I tried the various function keys at the disk drive password prompt, but it didn't do anything) Thanks in advance for any assistance!

I recently changed my BIOS password (aka supervisor password) on my ThinkPad T400 and I did not write it down. I do remember that the character limit for this password was short (maybe 6,7,or 8 characters long). If I knew the (default?) character limit or length I could rule out dozens of other passwords in my memory and gain access to my computer that much sooner. Ive read every manual and users guide for my laptop and there is no other method readily available, no bypass solution so it is imperative that I remember what I set.. Thanks for your time.

Indeed it is. That's the only solution so there's nothing that we can do as we don't assist with password issues as per the site rules.

Hi there,

I've got 10 laptops Toshiba Tecra M11-11K here and they all have the same problem. If they turned on and I enter the BIOS to make adjustments for the first time, it's fine but if I want to return to BIOS after couple of restart (or even one), what happens when I press F2 is that the screen flashes and computer restarts. It does it on all 10 laptops. Anyone knows what to do with that? Flashing BIOS means I have to setup all of them before I can do that, which is a bit of a drag and I don't have guarantee it's gonna work. :/

Thank you,

Forgot supervisor BIOS password on Aspire E 15 E5-573 39K5 (manufacture date Aug, 15 2015). I did set the PW, successfully accessed all BIOS functions yesterday, changed the PW and must have mistyped. Am able to login to BIOS using User PW where it only allows changing the date/time. I forgot/mistyped the HDD PW too and it says "Frozen" in the User BIOS screen. Only answers I've found yet get past User PW by entering code displayed after enter wrong User PW three times. I am the legitimate, registered, paid-for-it owner of the laptop and can prove that on paper. I registered it with Acer by serial number the date I bought it. I have not called Acer support yet and don't want to (I'm afraid they'll say "send it in" - the reason I'm avoid that is it's my only computer and can't be without it for a week - I am not avoiding proving legal ownership).

I'm the happy owner of a R700, at least until now.
This morning, I'd try to protect my laptop with a boot password.
So i set up a supervisor password and restarted my computer.
It has two downsides :
First of all, there is no boot password required and secondly if I push the F2 key at the boot sequece, the comuter imediately restart...

How can i enter the BIOS again and how to set up a boot password ?
And, if it's possible, how to set up a fingerprint password at boot time ?

Thank you very much,

Try to press ESC and then F1 in order to access the BIOS.

As you have been doing you need to press F1 at boot to enter BIOS, at the prompt when you are pressing enter you need to enter the Supervisor password, if a power on password were configured you would need to enter this afterwards, the same applies to HDD passwords.

I set a supervisor password while I was in Windows xp.
I wanted to set the password: " nonhyj14 " but I failed & entered " nonhyj&' " .It was stupid cause I'm a student in computer Science. I didn't press Shift button before press 1-button & 2-button.So when I started my notebook, windows didn't start and there was no booting.Immediately after the message "In touch with toshiba" I saw "Password:".I entered " nonhyj&' " but because of the fact that characters " & " and " ' " are special (that's what I read after I did set my unlikely password in my notebook's documents ) my password didn't work.So I would like to know:
-If it's normal that windows doesn't start before I have to enter supervisor password
-What can I do to access my computer? aren't there any generic password that I could enter ? I read for the bios password that the solution is on hardware side but I don't want to open my computer which is brand new.Should I send my computer to toshibarepair?

Hello. I configured my Thinkpad T500 to have the same password (which consists entirely of lowercase letters) as its Power-On, Hard Drive, and Supervisor passwords. I would now like to disable all these passwords, but when I go into the BIOS's security settings (entering the aforementioned password twice; once upon startup and once before entering the BIOS's Setup Utility), it tells me "All items on this menu cannot be modified in user mode. If any items require changes, please consult your system Supervisor". How can I configure the password settings? Again, I know the previous password and am not attempting to circumvent the password mechanism (none of the existing threads I found on this topic were successfully resolved in a manner that I can duplicate, and most of them were closed because the forum rules prohibit discussion of circumvention of the BIOS password mechanism).

Answer:Cannot access supervisor mode in BIOS despite knowing password

Update: I used the instructions at the bottom of to reset the power on password. Now, when I boot the computer, it first shows an icon indicating that it is prompting for the hard drive password. When I supply the old password, it says "OK", then prompts for a power on password. I supply the old password, and it refuses it. Before, upon boot, the computer would prompt for the power on password, which I would supply; it would accept it, and then indicate that the hard drive password was accepted without my having to supply it. I now cannot use the computer at all. How can I resolve this issue?

Answer:Where to insert BIOS supervisor password on Portege Z830?

The BIOS password as well as the Supervisor password can be removed within the BIOS security area.

Please check also this Toshiba document.

In some cases you need to press the "INS" key while Toshiba logo appears.
Then a prompt for the Supervisor Password would appear and if the password is certified then the BIOS could be entered by pressing the "F2" key.

Hello, I wonder if anyone can help ?

We have just started to put a supervisor password onto our Tecra A11 laptops so our pupils cannot set passwords on the hard drive etc.

To get into the BIOS and set a BIOS password, we press F2 as the machine starts.
We then go into the security option, then supervisor password.
Having entered the password we want to use twice, we press F10 to save etc.

The machine starts ok and goes in to windows without a hitch.

The problem we have now is that we cannot get back into the bios at all.
As the machine starts we press the F2 key as before but unlike previously the screen just remains blank and the 'Toshiba leading Innovation >>>' screen no longer appears.

If we keep our finger on the F" key or keep pressing it the laptop just restarts without ever getting to the BIOS screen where I assume we will get asked for the supervisor password we set earlier?

Is there another key we should be pressing as the laptop starts ?

I should add we have added a supervisor password for the BIOS security screen on three of our laptops and all three have the same issue.

We have a Satellite A100-206 in the office.

A colleague trying to protect the laptop has set user password in bios.
I don't know what exactly she do but at the bootup a password is requested.

Then she ask me to remove the password so I have typed the password, entred the bios and clear the user password.
But doing this I 've also note that the supervisor password was already set but not selectable (grey colored) .

Anyhow I've saved and reboot.
The problem is that now the O.S. start without asking a password, but I cannot enter the bios anymore because it ask a password and is not the one the collegue remember to have set.

Why I cannot enter anymore in th bios as user?
I've also search the hwsetup in windows to re set the user password as indicated in the manual but this software is not present.

Answer:Satellite L670-134 How to delete Supervisor password?

You know what supervisor password is?

The supervisor password is only to secure Bios settings and Hardware setup.
Mostly set by an administrator so a user can't change Bios settings.
The user may start and shut down the notebook however he wants and he is able to work with the machine normally - he just needs the supervisor password to enter the Bios or Hardware setup.

So it?s kind of security and if you don?t know this password, you can not delete this?
In such case you have to contact the Toshiba ASP in order to remove this ;(

Hi Guys,
I have a little issue with my Satellite L50-B-PSKT4U laptop and have created a service ticket at Toshiba, took additional warranty and no answer from Toshiba support..Have been on the phone after 3 weeks with their support and after 30 minutes of listening to keep-you-calm music the line get's cut and no support. Called again, after 30 minutes again same story, and 3rd time same wonderful support. One and a half our further no support, so let's try the queue for business laptops......
Within 30 seconds I get a service guy on the phone and I told him I pressed intentionally the wrong option for business support, because I had been waiting for 1.5 hours in total without success and 3 times in a row the line was cut... He told me that this line was for businesses and not consumers.
I told him the laptop was bought and owned by a company, bought via a reseller and my problem is a buggy BIOS from Toshiba/Insyde and could affect also business laptops..The guy became pissed and wanted to bet there was nothing wrong with the BIOS, because Toshiba would not supply buggy BIOSes.
Furthermore BIOS problems are not covered by warranty and if I wanted to get my laptop fixed I had to send it to a repair company and pay their fee for fixing the result of a buggy BIOS supplied by Toshiba..
Are you completely out of your ****ing mind???
This is the last time I bought a Toshiba laptop and will never recommend it to someone else......

Since then I'm not able to change the settings (for example boot order etc - the right side of the BIOS screen is not displayed anymore).
I access the bios with pressing ESC on boot process, then F1 when prompted ""Check System, then press [F1] key"". Problem is that I am not asked for the supervisor password.
There should be a prompt for the Supervisor Password, but it is not. So I am not able to login as supervisor.
I know that I can change boot order manually by pressing F12 when booting, but that wouldnot solve my problem.

Satellite U400-150 /PSU45E, the most fresh bios v4.0, just been flashed (07/23/2009).

Well, I have a trouble with password on boot. I need to set password, which should be required _only_ to enter the "BIOS SETUP". When I set up the Supervisor Password (User is clear) I assume that I should be asked for password to enter or manage the BIOS SETUP, but it always requires me to give the password. To boot, to boot from other source (F12) and to enter the SETUP.

In AWARD bios there is an option called "Password on boot: enabled/disabled". But in Phoenix I cannot find such one. In "Security" section within "BIOS SETUP" there is an option to set a "Supervisor, User or HDD" password. I have already tried every combination, none is suitable for me.

What I would like to achieve is:

I would like to be asked to give a password only when I enter the SETUP or when I try to boot from other sourde (F12 pressed). When I only boot the system during regular poweron I don't need to give the password.

Could you please help me?

Answer:Satellite U400-150 - Supervisor password always required, even to boot up

> Now when I enter the bios setup during boot it defaults to non-supervisor mode and I can find no way to get it to prompt me for the password to allow me to make changes.

Usually if the supervisor password has been set, you can access the BIOS pressing F2 button.
Now you have to insert the Supervisor Password or you can proceeds with limit access to different BIOS options by pressing the F11 button.

If you have inserted the right supervisor password, you could delete it again in the BIOS security tab.
Usually you have to insert the right supervisor password and have to press ENTER twice just to delete it. Then save the changes

Here an short description what the supervisor password does.

Ok, so here is the situation: We just change our AD Domain and the user was able to get into their new account. The user uses the finger print scanner to auto enter the bios supervisor password and auto login to their account. They used the Lenovo fingerprint software to update their Windows credentials, and now it wont pass the bios supervisor log in. They don't know what they set it to. What are our options? I tried calling support and they shut down on giving me any information once they got the serial and saw it was out of warranty. I wasn't expecting them to fix it right there, but I couldn't even get them to tell me my options, IE do I need to pay for support, r a document give my option or anything. If anyone has any advice, it would be greatly appreciated. Also I think it has a password on the hard drive, so even getting the data off will be an issue I think.

I just installed Windows 7 Home Premium *x64* on my A500-14L (PSAM3E-02N008FR) and all went smooth, even the TVAP and flashcards install. Unfortunately, I have a problem with the following utilities (latest versions found on Toshiba website) :

- Supervisor Password Utility
- Remote Command Manager

I installed both of them but I can't find them in my start menu!
There is no install error but it's like they are not installed at all.

Can someone please help me on this matter ? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite A500-14L: Supervisor Password Utility & Remote Command Manager

For Supervisor Password Utility I recommend checking the Toshiba Assist.
In Secure you should see the Supervisor Password Utility.

The Remote Control Manager improves the support for a remote control on your computer.
I?m not sure if you could access this application but if yes then you should check it in control panel.

Whilst updating the BIOS the system froze at step 7 of replacing the BIOS code, needless to say the laptop will not boot as the BIOS is now corrupt.

I have the BIOS.BAK but need advice on how to restore the BIOS. I copied the BIOS.BAK to a usb stick and plugged this into the laptop and then powered on the system (I've tried holding down F, F2 and together). I can see that the usb stick flickers initially but clearly does not progress with the restore.

I hope someone might be able to advise how to use the BIOS.BAK file to restore the BIOS.

Unfortunately I cannot help you with this but check please this interesting thread -

I know this will sound stupid. but I am an OAP buying my first computer (for the wife at Christmas) and I have not got a clue what I am doing. We purchased a Toshiba Satellite C660-28Ton Saturday

Upon installation, It asked my wife to give it a name which she did and a password which she also did. She set it up ok and was able to access the internet etc. Later she turned it off and then found that she could not use it again. When she starts it up the computer name comes up ok, but when it asks for a password, the password she chose does not work. We have tried everything, every variation of her password etc etc and cannot get into the computer again

What can we do ? our password does not work and we do not know how to enter a new one. Can anyone help or advise what we can do ? We have not even registered the Warranty yet. Many thanks if you can help.

Answer:Re: New Satellite C660 blocked by password

Try this first.
Switch on the laptop and then press and hold F8. A screen should open with various options, using the arrow/cursor keys select "Safe mode with Networking". Hopefully you will get a login screen with "Administrator" as one of the users and if you do select that account and there will be no password. I suggest you use "help and Support" from the Start Button to see how you reset the password.

If you've now got your machine back I'd suggest you look at creating a password reset disc.

If you still can't get back into the machine then if you created the backup discs then you can restore the machine to its out of the box state with them

When i start up my computer it brings up a black screen with a blue box, which says enter password.
I do not understand why this comes up, or what the password should be.

Can anyone help please?

Answer:Satellite C660 asks for password

I assume you mean the BIOS password.
Strange if the notebook asks for password which you didn?t set in the past...
However, the point is that BIOS password cannot be deleted if you don?t know the password. Only the Toshiba ASP would be able to do that...
Therefore you can solve this issue only asking a Toshiba ASP for help and for removing this password.

I have had this H50-55 for sometime, several years and suddenly it ask for a bios password when I try to enter the bios to change the boot order.  I have no clue what it is. I hate passwords and NEVER use one unless forced...What can I do?

Answer:Lenovo H 50-55 Bios password suddenly appears when trying to enter bios. I don't know it.

my guess is that your cmos battery died and it wants you to set day/time.  There is no backdoor password.  The choices are remember the PW or replace the motherboard.

I wonder if someone can assist, the compter has bios win-1.90 issued feb 2012, looked today and they have issued new bios 1.70 dated 1/06/2012.

What gives there is no record of 1.90 version and I guess 1.70 is much earlier ??? and if one does a search on web (non Toshiba site) it shows toshiba 1.90 as latest.

Before anyone ask why do I need need Bios, some times have improvements

Tony Miller

Answer:Re: Satellite C660/1J2 and new BIOS

I?ve checked Toshiba support page and you are right. Offered BIOS version is 1.70. I don?t know why lower version number is offered as latest BIOS update.

Anyway, check Toshiba page next days. Maybe newest version will be offered.
But let?s be realistic, if your notebook runs well you don?t need BIOS update. If you don?t have some serious problems don?t change anything.

I have just bought Toshiba Satellite C660-15r off someone but the problem is it has a password on start up.
This is fine because i was going to restore it any way but when i go in to windows restore you need a password to access it.

Is there a way to reinstall windows with out using windows restore. I really hope someone can help.

Answer:Satellite C660-15r - Restoring Windows 7 without password

My advice is follow:
When you buy used notebook install OS again to have clean preinstalled operating system. Use Toshiba recovery image, if possible.
Just one question: do you mean BIOS password or Windows login password?

If previous user has set a password you need it and without this password you cannot do anything.
If preinstalled OS is locked with login password you can install OS using recovery DVD and you don't need any password for it. I just hope previous owner has created this recovery DVD.

I have a password on the bios of my tecra 9100 but can't remember what it is, Anyone know a way around this to get into the bios?

Answer:Tecra 9100: How to enter BIOS without BIOS Password?

Unfortunately I have bad news for your.
It???s not possible to enter the BIOS without to set the old password.
In this case if you don???t know the password so you have to contact the Toshiba service in your country. Only the ASP can remove the existing password.

> My lap top Satellite C660-1TK (PSC1QE-01900GGE) use american megatrends bios

This is Toshiba European notebook model and the latest available BIOS can be downloaded from Toshiba EU driver page.

The latest BIOS for this series is currently the BIOS 1.50-win
So your BIOS is already up to date.

I have the same problem. Latest BIOS version for my notebook is 1.3 but on my is 1.4 installed?! Notebook is 10 days and I can?t work with it.

We have few C660 (PSC0LE) we bought tham on same day and they all have 1.3 and are working perfect. Only my is BIOS 1.4 version and it?s not good at all.

Please my question is how can I flash BIOS with 1.3?

Answer:Satellite C660 - How to downgrade the BIOS?

Why you have created an additional thread about BIOS? I mean this can be discussed in your other thread too.

Anyway: BIOS downgrade is not possible and can only be done from an authorized service provider in your country. On Toshiba website only the newest version is available so a downgrade is not possible.

We have Been having trouble with our battery so tried everything besides updating the BIOS.
The laptop hasn't had as n updated bios since 2012 anyway.

So went to Toshiba downloaded the right one. Got to programming block 17 then nothing the system stayed on. It was on for a while so had to pull the plug before she overheated.

So obviously tried firing it up again. Blank screen. LEDs fine. DVD drives spins fans working. And one beep where it detects ram. Tried various combination of keys to no avail. So called tosh support.

They quoted 187 if they have to reflash and 275 to replace motherboard.
Now not stating the obvious not paying that I'd rather buy a nee one Lil

Basically as anyone got ideas how to do it yourself before i surrender on her

I have a strange problem with a Satellite C660-18C, and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.

This is a friend's laptop that crashed a little while ago. He appears to have tried to reinstall an operating system, although not using the recovery media, which he never made when the notebook was new. He has not managed to do this, so asked me to take a look.

The hard disk is still the original Toshiba disk that shipped with the laptop, although it has been removed and replaced. This was done to do some basic testing on the hard disk, which showed no errors.

If you boot the laptop from a USB stick with a Windows 7 Pro installation image, you get as far as choosing a partition to install Windows on to. It shows "Disk 0 Unallocated Space 232.9GB"

However, it reports "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."

I have looked in the Bios and I can see no trace of the hard disk. For instance, if you look under "Boot", this list only shows, CD/DVD, FDD, LAN and USB.

It seems to make no difference whether the SATA mode is set to "AHCI" or "Compatibility"

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Answer:Satellite C660-18C HDD missing from BIOS

Usually good working HDD should be listed in BIOS (first BIOS page).
There you should see the HDD name and the size.

If first BIOS page does not provide any details about the HDD, then the HDD was not recognized by BIOS and in most cases this means that the HDD is faulty.

If you are 100% sure that this HDD isn?t faulty (for example it works in connection with another notebook), then an HDD controller malfunction could cause the problem?

But I guess it?s an HDD issue?

Hi all ...

I sat and would update the bios for my Toshiba Satellite C660-1TT (PSC1QE-01D006N5)

Sloopy as i was, i left the computer to get some coffee, *obviously one of my kids was there* and pressed some buttons. This resulted in the computer "froze" after a while i had to forced it to turn off.

Now the clock change back time and date every time I boot the computer and i can?t get wifi to work.
I tryed to reinstall the bios again but then get message that i already have the same or newer bios and installation terminated.

Someone who can tell if I can somehow trick the computer into thinking it is a newer version or mabye bring in the older again and then update?

Grateful for any help! Robert

(excuse my bad English)

Answer:Satellite C660-1TT - BIOS trouble

From my knowledge it?s not possible to downgrade the BIOS in windows mode because you will always get a notification that newer version is already installed.
From my knowledge the Toshiba ASP technician can downgrade the BIOS but only using the traditional (DOS) BIOS version.

But I would recommend testing this workaround.
Shut down the notebook. Remove the battery and disconnect the AC adaptor.
Now leave the notebook disconnected for a longer period of time? I think about 3-4 hours?
Then connect the battery and ac adaptor and access the BIOS pressing F2 while powering on the unit.
Here you should set the BIOS to default (F9) and save the changes.
Now boot the notebook and check how it would work.

Usually the date and time resets because the CMOS battery is empty. But I cannot imagine that this might be a problem here? however, you can charge the CMOS battery running the notebook on mains for 18-20 hours. During this period of time the notebook needs to be ON.

Check this

Hi their.

I need to update the bios of my Satellite C660. I download the install pack versionn 2. But I get this messege: "Tere is an error occured. Please check below items. BIOS version above 200. Battery capacity more than 10%. AC is attached."
So my current version is 1.5, battery full, and AC plugged.
What's the problem?

Answer:BIOS update on Satellite C660

Can you please post full model name of your notebook? I just want to check which BIOS version is offered for download.

By the way: why do you want to update BIOS? Is there some serious problem with your machine?
