Question about volume adjusting on volume button - Satellite Pro U300

Question: Question about volume adjusting on volume button - Satellite Pro U300

Hello,

I have a problem with adjusting the volume. When I adjust the volume using the button on the left side of the laptop, I only can choose 3 "loudness levels":

No volume, very silent volume, and maximum volume (to loud).

Is this normal, doesn't anyone have problems with this?
I expect the problem is because of the digital volume adjuster. The adjuster doesn't register the exact position of the volume button. Every time when I get a phone call at work (I listen to internet radio), I turn off the radio using the adjuster on the side of the laptop. When I end the phone call, I always need to open the laptop and adjust the volume in the windows task bar, because when I use the volume adjuster on the left side of the laptop, it just immediately goes to maximum volume.

Answer: Question about volume adjusting on volume button - Satellite Pro U300

Hi

It?s very strange that your sound volume control contains only 3 volume levels?
I have noticed that Toshiba has released a new sound driver (v. 6.0.1.5473) on the European driver page.

So how about the sound driver update?
The sound driver controls definitely the sound volume and in my opinion it?s a worth a try.

Good luck

Hi,
Windows XP Home
RealPlayer 10.5

Ok, I used to have RealPlayer and all it's junk till I wised up
and removed it from my system over a year ago.

However, I recently installed the basic RealPlayer (that is...only allowing
the features that I needed for video/audio) in order to watch NASA TV
e.g. DEEP IMPACT and today's DISCOVERY launch.

My question is regarding why, when I mute or adjust the volume on
the RealPlayer, that it also does the same to the computer's Volume
Control (Speaker Icon in System Tray...Wave setting).

I had been viewing on the RealPlayer, muted the sound and then later
was wondering why I was not able to hear any of my videos, music, etc.
The thought occurred to me to check the Speaker Icon and, sure enough,
there was a check at Wave>>Mute.

Is there a setting I can check/uncheck that will allow RealPlayer and
Computer volume to be independent of one another?

Thank you,

Hi to all

Does volume indicator on a satellite pro U300 exist? And if so which applet/tool/driver installs it?

Thanks in advance.
George

Answer:Volume indicator on a Satellite Pro U300

Hmm? your message is a little bit confusing.
As far as I know the Satellite Pro U300 unit was equipped with the sound volume controller and this can be found on the left side near to the headphone and mic jacks.

You need only an sound driver to get the sound card woking... that's all

Hi all, Im using X301. Previously it was shipped with the Vista Business. I was entitled for free upgrade to Win7 since the thinkpad was bought after 25th of June 09. The problem started after I successfully upgraded my Vista to Win7 Pro. My Mute/Unmute button was consistently in amber colour (signal for disabled). the volume button also is not working anymore. On the system side, everything was fine. the drivers is working properly.. the windows also is showing the volume is in a good shape. Unfortunately the button on the thinkpad is always on the disabled mode. Ive been searching for a related drivers that i could download and solve the issue. but till now all the softwares and drivers downloaded from lenovo could not solve my problem. any suggestion or comment is highly appreciated. thanks a million

Hello sevenforums,
I just received a new keyboard today: Thermaltake Challenger Ultimate. I went from a Logitech G15.

First thing I did was connect the keyboard and install the software that came along on the CD, it probably also installed the correct drivers. First after this did I uninstall the software and drivers from the old Logitech G15. But before that, and now after, the volume buttons on my new keyboard is still not adjusting the volume when I press them.

A speaker-icon like this shows up when I press the volume buttons, so its not that the keys are not working: (ignore the text behind it, its me writing an assignment)

Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be wrong?

Hi,

My Dell Studio has just crashed and wont restart. The mute and volume up buttons are flashing and the volume down button is solidly lit. I could not find the diagnostic code when searching the internet. I could find pretty much every other diagnostic code apart from this one.

Any advice would be most welcome.

Thanks,

Andy

Answer:Dell Studio 1535 wont start. Blinking mute and volume up button, solid volume down button.

Hi Andy,
Welcome to Dell community!
As you have correctly pointed out, the diagnostic code that you have mentioned is not among the codes available to isolate the failure for a Studio 1535 laptop. The closest code is: blinking Mute LED and Volume up LED, and an off Volume down LED which is for USB controller initialization failure. Disconnect any external devices connected and try powering on the computer.
Reseating the memory modules too can help us. Please refer the following link for the Studio 1535 service manual for instructions: http://bit.ly/10PrLgH
If issue persists, the laptop’s motherboard has to be replaced. Refer the following link to check the computer’s warranty status: http://dell.to/10pMa86
If the computer has active warranty, please send me the service tag and registered owner’s name on the computer in a Private Message. To send me a Private Message, click my User name, and then click Start Conversation.

Here is this issue back again...
I've reviews 100's of forums, tried several methods but no success.

First, some background: I have a Satellite U300-15S which I had to install under XP SP2 for business purposes (sold with Vista). The sound chip is a Realtek ALC268. I reformated the entire disk, wipping out the Vista restoration partition. My XP SP2 is a Version 5.1 (numro 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519 : Service Pack 2) in English (menus in French). The sound worked under Vista. I have installed all the Windows XP drivers supplied by Toshiba on their web site. I've upgraded the BIOS to the version of the 15/12/08. When I use the sound mute hot key, I see the icon changing from muted to not muted (and vice versa).

For the sound drivers, once I've discovered this problem, I've tried:
- installing drivers directly from Realtek out of their website (version 2.12) (deinstall toshiba drivers, reboot, install realtek drivers, reboot)
- installing KB888111 and KB198658 (deinstall sound drivers, install 1st KB, reboot, install second KB, reboot, install toshiba sound drivers, reboot)

I've indeed tried reinstalling the drivers 10'th of times, including multi reboot.

Does any of you have any clue?

Steph

Answer:Satellite U300-15S - Warning: Cannot Access Volume Control!

Is there absolutely nothing to do with this issue?

I can add that I have already seen the sound working on XP Pro SP2 on this same PC.
I had to reinstall XP after a diks crash. I cannot remember how I got this solve the first time... The version of Windows may have been different...

Also, I launched the Everest tool and figured out the the HD-Audio seems deactivated:
Peripheriques integres / HD-Audio

Proprietes du peripherique integrer:

Type Sound
Etat Desactive

I indeed scanned the BIOS but did not find any possible setting for the sound.

I'm unimpressed by the volume dial on my new Satellite U300.
Much prefered the 'real' hardware version on my old A100 - the U300's suffers from 'lag' and is also requires a lot of dialing to make changes.

Is there any way I can adjust the sensitivity?

Answer:Satellite U300: How to change the volume dial sensitivity

This is not possible dude? You cannot change the sensitivity of the volume controller.

But to be honest? I don?t agree with you!
I like the ?new? generation of the volume control. I?ve such volume control in the A210 and it?s nice.

I bought a U300 last week and I'm finding that the volume control wheel doesn't seem to move very smoothly. It seems you have to push it in slightly to adjust the volume and when you release your finger the volume goes back in the direction you've moved it from slowly. Has anyone else experienced this?

Also, when putting pressure above the express card slot the casing compresses. Does this happen on all U300s?

I would go back to the shop I bought it from and ask but I live quite some distance from it so I thought I would see if anyone here could help first. Any replied much appreciated.

Thanks.

Answer:Satellite U300 - strange issue with volume control wheel

Hi,

sounds like the wheel is stuck and something around the wheel is blocking the volume wheel. I think the best idea is to return the machine like you said, since it?s very unusual what you?ve described.

You can also send your machine to an authorized service partner for a hardware checkup/repair.
If you need some help to find the nearest one in your country you can use the following link to find some:

My Yoga 13 volume up/volume down buttons (hardware buttons on the side of the unit) were working fine for a few weeks and then all of sudden decided to invert themselves (i.e., in laptop mode, pushing the button closer to me would make volume go UP and pushing the button further away from me would make the volume go DOWN).  Same thing in tablet (landscape orientation with camera on top) and stand modes - pushing the upper button made volume go down and vice versa.  The only time the volume buttons would work logically is in tent mode where pushing the upper button made the volume go up and pushing the lower button made the volume go down (but only by happenstance because the unit is "inverted" and the volume buttons happen to be inverted as well).  I don't recall if these buttons automatically switched orientation when the unit is rotated, but now it's always fixed in the up is down and down is up position in 3 out of 4 modes. Minor annoyance, but an annoyance nonetheless on an expensive new laptop.  Any idea on a fix?

Answer:Yoga 13 Volume Up Button and Volume Down Button inverted bug/problem

I was about to write back with a snarky email about how the volume button is fixed in one position and the orientation makes most sense in tablet mode and that to expect any more was crazy. I was going to argue how this is no different than any tablet which can be used in reverse landscape mode - the volume control is backwards. I was just about to point you to the manual where I was sure that it would state that the button closest to the front of the keyboard is volume down up.... But then I read page 8 of the User Guide: http://www.lenovo.com/shop/americas/content/user_guides/yoga13_ug_en.pdf Where it clearly labels the volume buttons back to front. So I dont' know. I give up. Your guess is as good as mine. Though orientation specific volume controls might be useful (I bet it would just add to the confusion).

Hello,

When I was cleaning up my PC, I removed programs with the Add/Remove Programs utillity.

I accidentally deleted somekind of sound-driver. Now I am not able to use the fn button for sound control.

I am not able to use FN-UP for volume up, FN-DOWN for volume down or FN-ESC for mute anymore.
I tried system restore, but this did not solve the problem.

I tried installing sound driver from toshiba website, this did not help either.

Does somebody now how I can fix this problem and make the FN-UP/DOWN/ESC for volume control work again?

Thanks.

I just got my IdeaPad Y530 and the orange volume up/down button feels weird on the down part when I push on it.  The up part of the button has a nice, crisp, click to it, however, the down part feels kind of indented a little, and doesn't give me the same nice clean clicks that the volume up part of the button does.  Is this normal, or is there something wrong with my volume button?

Sorry but who says that volume regulator should pop up? This regulator will pop up just if you click on small volume symbol placed in task bar.
Moving volume control dial nothing will be shown, just the small icon will be changed and show one, two or three small lines depending on volume level.

My volume button on my keyboard no longer controls the volume. The only way to turn down the volume is to turn it down from the application I am in. For example, if I'm listening to itunes, I turn it down using the volume control in itunes. Or if I'm in Youtube, I use the volume control in Youtube. When I use the volume button on my keyboard, it doesn't change unless its turned all the way down therefore muting it. But I want to go back to controlling the volume using the volume button on my keyboard. Help please!

I have a problem with the touch buttons on my U500. I have already returned the first notebook I bought for exchange.

The issue is as follows:
When the power cord is plugged in (regardless if connected to the wall) the "Volume +" button will stick ON.
The volume will then continue to increase, it can not be muted or turned down as the + continues to repeat.
Without the power cord inserted the buttons works as expected (normally).

I have done fresh install from recovery disks - Not fixed (running Vista)
Then another fresh install and Win7 upgrade this new PC is having the same problem.
At first I had assumed a hardware fault (the new PC did work fine for a while).
But now the second PC has the identical symptoms I suspect a software/driver issue.

I have seen some suggestion for similar issues to:
Re-install "Toshiba Common Modules" but I can't find this on the support site for U500 in Australia.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

Intel (R) Core(TM) i7-5500 CPU @ 2.40Ghz(RAM) 8.00 GB64 bit I have a problem with audio on my laptop. It keeps automatically adjusting itself based on the volume level. In YouTube or iTunes, the same thing happens: If I turn the volume DOWN, the pc will adjust the volume to sound as if it never was adjusted. Same with the other way around: Turn it UP and it will adjust the volume DOWN. The only reliable way to adjust volume is by manually going into the HP Speaker control to keep the volume at a certain 'maximum'. It has nothing to do with Beats Audio, I tested it by turning Beats on and off. Also, Beats has no options for an "automatic volume adjustment" feature. My audio device is: "Speaker/HP Realtek High Definition Audio". In this device's Properties, there is no option tab for "Automatic Loudening". The only tabs are: 'General', 'Levels' and 'Advanced'. None of these have the option of disabling 'Automatic Volume Loudening Adjustment.'Also, I am using headphones plugged into the jack...but I'm not sure if that makes any difference?

Dear Friends., I have an HP Pavilion notebook model dv7-3085dx. I'm not sure how to adjust the audio volume from or on the keyboard? Or maybe they aren't working? The attachment is a "Sample" only it is not the exact layout I have. I assume these are finger touched controls? On another HP laptop you would hold down the fn and alt buttons and on the other side of the keyboard there are clearly marked keys with pg up and pg down with speaker icons on the keys as well.Perhaps for some strange reason the finger touch controls aren't working or disabled somehow. These are the illuminated speaker - and speaker + with bars in between them and next to that are what appears to be (rewind?) |<< > >>| (fast forward?) and then a small illuminated square. What am I missing please.Thank You in advance for your care, cooperation and attention to this matter.Respectfully, Mr. Ralf

Answer:Adjusting Audio Volume

Hi: In the illustration you posted, that item labeled as #4 is the volume up/down scroll zone. Basically you slide your finger to the left to decrease the volume and to the right to increase the volume. If that is not functioning, perhaps you need to install the quick launch software below... This package contains the software that enables the HP Quick Launch Buttons, which are special function keys on HP Notebooks. This software works with supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp49001-49500/sp49104.exe

Whenever I download mp3 files and play them back, I find a great deal of variation in volume level. Some play back much softer or lower than I would like and occasionally one will play back too loud. I'm trying to find a good program to use that will allow me to adjust mp3 volume levels before starting the burn process so that after I burn CD's and then play them back I won't have to keep adjusting the volume. In other words I wan't to be able to burn 20 or so tracks so that they will all play back at essentially the same level of volume. ( I guess that these programs would also make it possible to eliminate a certain amount of hiss, especially in cases where the volume level needs boosting.)

I've been told that there are programs that will let me make such adjustments. I would appreciate recommendations as to which of these work the best and have the clearest instructions. Basically, how do these programs work? A simple 3- or 4-step explanantion, if possible, would help me a lot.

Thank you,

Hi, my computer has been acting funny. Whenever I try and adjust the volume, the computer goes to a mind of its own. It'll lower the volume all the way to 0, or 100 depending if I tried to lower or up the volume. It does this even though I'm not touching the volume button. I'm on windows 10, and I tried reinstalling my sound card drivers, realtek, and this still happens. If I try to adjust it while it's adjusting itself all the way up, or down, the computer doesn't listen. After a restart it may work for a short while, but it always happens again later.

I hope this is the correct forum...for the first time I used headphones in Windows 10 Pro, and I found the normal Fn-F6 and Fn-F7 that adjust speaker volume do not work to adjust headphone volume - nor does the slider in the task tray. I can go into Control Panel and find the speakers and adjust them, and they are set as default. But it seems to me that in past versions (I came from Windows 7) when headphones were plugged in, the audio slider in task bar adjusted them - when headphones were not plugged in, it adjusted speaker volume.

Do I have to go into Control Panel every time I want to tweak headphone volume? What am I missing?

Hi, I had to restore my computer to factory settings a few weeks back due to some trojan/virus. Now that its clean I've noticed the computer makes a sort of beep but its from inside the computer, not the speakers. This mainly happens when I change the volume through the speaker icon and also when I open up a certain video game. Also the soundbar (green volume thing) wont show up when I adjust the volume with the keyboard. Is there anything I could do to fix this?

Thanks for the help.

Answer:Internal Beep when adjusting volume

I think you can disable this in control panel in sounds/audio devices.
Go under the sound tab to change the sounds. Unless you mean a
beep that is like from the sound of the computer.

AS for the green volume bar, if the volume is still being adjusted, it's
probably just delay/lag, a restart of the computer or trying again later should
enable it to work just fine.

To keep things simple I have recetly built my own HTPC and am using a HDA Digital Mystique 7.1 Gold soundcard for audio. When I use the windows remote to adjust the volume it only changes the volume of the master volume level and leaves the wave volume level unchanged. I know that my best bet is to simply change the volume on my AV Receiver and leave the Wave and Master volume at mid - max but when my girlfriend uses the HTPC she always uses the remotes volume control.

Having said that I would simply like the option of being able to change the volume of my HTPC via the MS remote instad of just the amp.

If more information is needed or if you would like a better explanation of what I am trying to acheive then please feel free to ask.

Regards, Matt.

Answer:Adjusting Wave and Master Volume

You said the remote can controll the master volume. So just turn everthing else up to full and then just use the remote, because the master volume will controll the whole volume.

I'm not sure if this happened with 5.55, but with 5.56, when I hit the volume up or down on my keyboard to turn the sound down for everything, it turns down winamp's volume bar too. Sometimes I can move winamp's volume bar up and down and it won't even be working. What causes this? My problem is about a week and im very frustrated with it. What happen is my laptop suddenly mutes itself, it was very annoying specially when Im listening to music. Also the five lights on the touch panel are being pressed by themselves. Also the tricky part is that it only happens when power is plugged in when the power is not plugged it doesnt happen. I tried to update, reinstall, remove the drivers but the problem is still present. My main question is if there's a way to disable the whole five touch panels in my z470 laptop?HELP PLEASE!!

Hello espiritueds and welcome to community,

To disable the Touch button you need to uninstall Lenovo energy management software.

The issue seems to be happen due to internal cable connecting these touch buttons.

First, a little bit about my laptop. Its a Toshiba P205D with Window's Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 2, 32 bit.

And now, the problem: In the past month, I've noticed that when I try to adjust my volume (at least by the volume wheel) it makes my Window's Taskbar freeze up and stop working. If I click on it I get the "This program has stopped working, would you like to restart it, close it, or wait for it to respond?" message. If I do any of the three, it doesn't fix the problem. The taskbar closes, reloads, and I still can't adjust my volume. The only way to get it working again, is to go somewhere like youtube and watch a video, that somehow kicks my sound adjustment back into gear, and lets me adjust the volume. (After I do that, its fine.)

I've had this computer for about 4 years now, and this has never happened to me before. If anyone know's what can be causing this, or how to fix it, that'd be great. I'm hoping that reformating isn't the only answer because I did that just a couple months ago, and I'm still installing programs and window's updates to this day, so I'd rather not have to do that again.

Any answers would be great, thanks.

Answer:Adjusting my volume makes my taskbar crash

Check the Toshiba website for a newer sound driver, or even if it isn't newer than the one your using, download and install it anyway.

I used to have a volume bar in XP, but those drivers no longer work. I have no visual indicator of system volume. That's significant when viewing online media because the system may be maxed out, while the media player may not.

I'd absolutely love the Win7 sound slider to show up when I turn the knob on my keyboard, then go away a few second later. Is this an option somehow? Are there third-party utilities to do that?

Thanks.

My keyboard does that. You need the updated driver/software for your keyboard, I think.

I noticed it when i adjusted the volume using the special keys next to the keyboard of my acer aspire 5630. Apparently if I'm listening to music or watching smth and I adjust the volume, it skips through some of the audio and video. Also it takes a while to show that the volume has been set to a certain level. The same thing happens when adjusting it in the Master Volume interface.

Using WinXP if that helps..

Any ideas?

Is there any way to stop song info coming on the screen when adjusting the volume, it's very irritating as it covers a large part of the screen for about 5 seconds and shows the often embarrassing song I'm listening to.

Only just become a problem as I've started using Deezer instead of Spotify.

Had a good look online and can't see anything to help.

Thanks.

I want to use gpedit or something to prevent my mic volume from changing at all (I want it forced 25% no matter what)

but NO Matter What I do. Skype keeps changing it all over the place! and I already disabled "automatically adjust microphone volume" in the option

But it doesnt do anything.. It keeps changing anyways.

Can I use gpedit and set a policy that prevents any program at all from changing the microphone volume?

Nothing seems to work.. I end up dragging the slider to 25% constantly fighting with it to keep the volume from getting too loud or quiet!!

note this only happens while IN a call.

Solved... By reverting to an older version of skype.. No more microphone changes! (skype 6.3)

Anyone else with this problem probably should try that as well.

Hello,I have a quite strange problem with my Thinkpad X61s (running XP Pro): When I try to adjust the volume below the value of 2 or to completely mute it, either via the Thinkpad's hotkeys or the Windows volume adjustment (the small speaker in the task bar), the machine totally freezes. The cursor is still movable but dysfunctional, i.e. I cannot click anything; there is no way to change this state except for pressing the Thinkpad's power button and restarting it. Is there anyone out there having (had) the same problem? Does anyone know how to remedy this problem? You would really help me a lot! Thanks, have a nice time,proforma2

Answer:X61s completely freezes when adjusting the volume level (!?)

YES!  I can't adjust volume and mine's set at 25.  It happened after an update was downloaded from Lenovo.

So Windows 7 has a feature that will auto-adjust the volume during video chatting. Seems like a good idea but in reality it just brings down the volume to a point to where I cant even hear the person. I have done some research on this but everything I could find said to go to Sound Settings -> Communications Tab -> and check the box that says "Do Nothing". I did this but it had no effect on Live Messenger. I downloaded Yahoo Messenger and it doesn't have this audio problem. I would much rather use Live Messenger because the video quality is MUCH better than other video chatting programs but I cant seem to get passed this problem. Has anyone had this problem and fixed it? Thanks in advance for any help.

I have recently purchased a Satellite P22-IEE and all in all very pleased. One little thing I find quite annoying is the volume control. Is there a way to see what volume you are either turning up or down to without hovering over the volume icon in the task bar?

On my old laptop when I turned the volume up it appeared on the screen to show me my present volume and so I could go up or down to suit, now it's pot luck!
Any help greatly valued.

Very similar if not identical to this thread: whenever I adjust the volume on this Toshiba Satellite A135 laptop using the analog dial on the front of the machine, Windows Explorer crashes. Also, the Speaker Properties window in the Control Panel will crash if I click the Levels tab. This only started happening since the upgrade to Service Pack 1 of Vista. (This machine runs Vista Home Basic, and just fine before the upgrade).

Probably a driver issue, I know, but Toshiba doesn't seem to have released any audio driver updates. Driver version installed is Realtek High Definition Audio 6.0.1.5322, from 11/8/2006.

Anyone else have this problem, or hopefully maybe even a fix?

Hi,

So I've not long migrated from XP to 7 and I've noticed that every time I watch or stream audio my Adobe Flash Player 11 which I like to set to 50% in Volume Mixer jumps up to 75% which makes the audio playback distorted & poor sound quality.

How do I get it to stay at 50% ? Usually I do like to set volumes to 75% which is what I've got my Realtek Device set to but Adobe crackles and sounds bad at 75% so I have to set it to 50%

Thanks

Answer:Volume Mixer Adjusting Individual Applications (Adobe Flash Player 11)

Is the PC actually fully Windows 7 compatible, since it was upgraded from XP? Do you have a fully Windows 7 compatible driver from Packard Bell and not a non-vendor sound driver, as non vendor drivers many times to do not work correctly.

As a side note, I see you only have 1GB of RAM, that is insufficient for Win 7 Ultimate, as Microsoft says 2GB minimum. Also with an 8400GS, which is an old video card that also makes me wonder about the PC's full Windows 7 compatibility.

I have a new E450 laptop running 8.1 and the .  The speaker volume and microphone mute buttons on the laptop work as expected - no problem. The issue is when I plug in my Lenovo Enhanced USB keyboard (part number SK-8815 (L)), pressing either the USB keyboards volume up or volume down buttons result in the laptop's microphone being muted (as well as the volume being adjusted).  The light on the microphone F4 key lights up.  I am using the latest driver for the keyboard. This is a major annoyance during skype calls, online voip meetings etc, and did not happen with my previous Edge laptop (same USB keyboard). Anyone help? Occasionally, but moreso when my laptop is not on a desk, the touch panel buttons (mute, lower volume, raise volume, onekey theater mode, thermal management mode) will activate themselves without me having touched them. Whenever I press the start menu button at the bottom left corner, the menu does not pop up so I can not use any of my apps. Same with the volume button. Whenever I press it, the horizontal rectangle volume control does not appear so I have to right click to change my volume. What can I do to fix it?

Answer:(Win 10) My start menu button and volume control button isn't working

There are many many posts here about start menu, taskbar ion problems.. feel free to search (search box above).
Extraordinarily long thread here:
Taskbar/Start button not working! - Windows 10 Forums

If your start menu fails to appear, try this:
http://www.urtech.ca/2015/05/solved-...-not-function/
But do not try option 4 - powershell command- as this has been broken and will break apps since last November.

You can check for conflicting programs by trying a clean boot.

If no joy, I suggest you just go straight for an In-place upgrade repair install.

An In-place upgrade repair install will fix many things, but not those where the settings are not changed by the procedure.

For this you need an installation medium with the same base build as you have installed.
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade - Windows 10 Forums
This will refresh Windows, after the manner of a Windows installation.
- all/most associations will be unchanged
- all your programs will be left installed
- you will lose any custom fonts
- you will lose any customised system icons
- you may need to re-establish your Wi-Fi connection
- you will need to redo Windows updates subsequent to the build you have used for the repair install
- Windows.old will be created
- system restore will be turned off- you should turn it on again and I recommend you manually schedule a daily restore point.
- you will need to redo any language downloads including the display language if you changed that)

Question: Volume Button

I wasn't sure where to put this but I hope this is the right place.

The problem is on my Dell Latitude D810 I have buttons above the laptop's keyboard that can lower or raise the volume and mute it right next to the power button. At first these worked but now only the lower volume button works and the raise volume button only works if I press it several times (then it goes up one notch). Is there something I can do to fix that? I don't know what could have caused it.

since you said it works but after pressing it several times so it could be that the button is messed or not working proper that the button is not in tact in its place. the other reason could be it that the button is set that it raises the volume little after pressing several times which could be checked from the dell's easy access functions which should either be located on the right side of the taskbar or in the control panel.

Hello,

On my newly purchased Pro A200/PSAE7 the (hardware) volume control - front side, right from speaker plug - turns endless and when using it the volume does not change "smooth" - more "abrupt". Because of this there is no "fine tuning" possible.

Q: Does somebody else has the same hardware side (endless turn) and software side (no smooth volume change) situation?

Many thanks for any reply in advance!

Best regards,

Answer:Sat Pro A200/PSAE7 - Volume Control turns endless, no smooth volume change

Hello,

"problem" of abrupt volume change when turning volume control disappeared. I am not sure if this is based on disable "TDispVol.exe" as start-up service or another reason.

So I have a Blue Yeti, and I'm an online animator/voice actor. Whenever I record audio on my Blue Yeti (OR any other mic) I record about 4-6 inches from the mic, and turn the gain down enough that the audio doesn't peak as I yell or whatever. This is what you're supposed to do if you don't want your audio levels peaking and making your recording sound horrible and corrupted. However, afterwards, it means I have really quite recordings. Not a problem right? Now that it's recorded right, I can boost the volume of the entire clip afterwards right? WRONG. I'm not an audio expert so I must be missing something. But why in GODS NAME would the audio distort and peak AFTER it's recorded successfully? It's all there, it's all clean audio. If I turn the volume on my speakers all the way up it sounds CRYSTAL CLEAR! All I want to do is do that INSIDE the computer so that when I upload it to youtube people don't have to turn their speakers so far up. But if I increase the clips volume in the computer, it distorts! It sounds awful! Why?! I tried in Sony Acid and Audacity and they both do the same thing! Why?! I seriously don't understand what I'm missing here! I can take sound effects, and recordings made by other producers and crank them up nice and loud, but mine just fall apart! If anyone understands audio stuff, please tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Answer:Soft Recording volume with Blue Yeti, increasing volume distorts audio

I have a home recording studio using Sonar X1 software.

I don't know about Acid, but it should allow clean recordings. Audacity the same way.

I record, generally, in the -10 level with my recording program, at 24 bits/44.1 Khz. At -10, I have plenty of headroom and can then adjust the levels after the recordings and at mixdown. I export the mix as a standard 16 bit/44.1Khz wav file and then "finalize" whatever I want to do to the song, including levels, with "Goldwave" (an audio editior).

I assume you are converting the audio to MP3? If that is the case, that may be where the distortion is occuring? I find that 128Kb MP3's are very poor and at a minimum use 198 Kb MP3's.

Hi all,

I have Toshiba Portege M800, and I have a problem with the volume wheel.
If I try to increase or decrease the volume by this volume wheel, it will change, but the volume not change linear.

For example, when I increase volume from 0 to something, volume is changed, during rolling, e.g. from 0-1-2-3-4-5-3-8-6 (thats just an example).

Why doesn't it change linear, e.g. 0-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 ?
Is it caused by software or it is hardware problem?

Could I claim the goods?

Thanks.

Answer:Portege M800 - volume wheel issue - volume level jumps

Hi

I have had a similar issue with the volume level on my Satellite notebook.
I tired everything; updated the BIOS, sound driver? I have also reinstalled my OS using the Roecvery disk but I didn?t notice any improvements.

Finally my ASP technician checked the volume wheel and cleaned the contacts and removed some dust.
This was the key?
The dirt affected the volume wheel functionality?

In my cases this helped but this does not mean that this will help you as well.
I think you should also update the BIOS and should check if you could update the sound driver.
If this will not help then it would be recommended to contact the ASP technician for opinion?

This on is quite perplexing to me. This is stemming from a volume problem that I had posted before. I have more detail and have narrowed down the problem but not the cause of such. When ever I click the volume control in winamp, not adjust necessarily, just click, my wave setting in my volume control (pannel that comes up by double clicking the speaker in the tray) drops. Of course this affects my overall volume. It is sparatic and does not drop the same amount two times in a row but will drop everytime I click volume in winamp. I am running winXP pro and have not installed so much as an update since the last time this was happening. The only thing I did change is I set up voice recognition in Office XP but I was having this problem before that. I have uninstalled and cleaned out all winamp files and reinstalled. Any suggestions? Winamp is the only player of any kind that this currently happens with.

Also, whenever I am using winamp to play an mp3 or streaming audio and I open another program, any program, or even just minimize/maximize a window, the audio starts cracking. This also has never happend before except of course when there is a heavy load on the system. As I said I am running XP pro, and FYI a Duron 900 cpu and 448MB RAM. As I am having these problems I am using 5% to 10% of my cpu and have 21000k physical memory availible according to task mgr.

Thanks.

Answer:When clicking volume in WinAmp my wave setting in Volume Ctrl drops.

When I use my touchpad to click and hold or drag items, if I hold on the right button for about 2 1/2 seconds and let go, it would carry on doing so until I click again. I thought it was a problem with the touchpad so I used my usb mouse instead and the problem is still happening.

About the volume button, when I'm watching something on youtube, if I click on the video and then lower the volume, it wont work unless I click out of the video.

I have run scans to check for any viruses but none are detected or affecting it.

Please help me solve this problem its making me crazy!!!

Thanks for reading!

Both the + and - volume buttons RAISE the volume. Neither lowers it. Brand new machine. Can this issue be corrected?

Answer:Flex 15 Volume Button malfunction

I have a FLEX 15 and similar issue is cropping up on my machine. The volume control is stuck on the left top corner of the screen and I have done everything possible to remove it but nothing has worked. Its distorted the touch screen functionality too. I cant seem to get the windows 8 or 8.1 to click on the left bottom to switch between tiles and desktop. The finger swipe bar that appears from the right on windows 8  snd 8.1 will appear using a finger but only the mouse can select them, finger actions dont work. I have reset the PC using windows 8 and 8.1 functionality but this volume bar is not going away.

I can't figure out what the button in between "volume" and "ThinkVantage" on my T420 does.  I've never seen the symbol before, it looks like a diagonal rectangle with a circle at the top.  It has to be important if it got its own key, but nothing happens when you press it as far as I can tell.  I feel like I'm asking Mr. Obvious from Bob and Tom...

This is what the key looks like.

I've had my Nokia Lumia 521 for about a year now. The volume up button does not work anymore, and the volume down button is starting to go to. Any quick fixes? Sending it in for a fix is a last resort until I know if this problem can be fixed easily.

Answer:My volume up button doesn't work. Help?

Ahem.. That's obviously a hardware issue. So you should probably send that thing in for repair.

OP if you could include details about your phone model that would be good.
It's a bit difficult to answer not knowing which device you are currently using.

Hi, The 'up' volume button on the side of my laptop (Pavilion x360) seems to be stuck. I tried pressing the button and restarting my laptop in hope to fix it but it didn't work at all. I thought it was a problem with the RealTek Audio installed to my laptop. I tried countless ways to fix RealTek audio, but that also didn't work. So there is probably a physical problem. On my laptop, there is three ways to change the volume. The button on the keyboard, the button on the side of my laptop and the speaker icon on the screen. There was no problem with the volume buttons on the keyboard and there is no problem with RealTek Audio. I found out that the side volume button is jammed. What can I do to fix it?This is the button that I think is jammed              ^^^

I have a new Notebook HP. Is there a way I can control the volume ? I cannnot see any volume conrol button anywhere.

Answer:Notebook Volume control button

On many notebooks the volume control is a `wheel` on the side of the case. You could either look at the manual or go online to locate it. Or if you identify the unit perhaps someone here has one and will be able to advise you.

I'm upgrading to a lumia 640 from my 920. I'm missing my dedicated shutter button. I was thinking maybe the volume button could act as the shutter.?

Answer:Is there a way to use the volume button to snap a picture?

Nope, that isn't an option. But I do agree with you, the dedicated camera button is great. I hope as Microsoft simplifies it's lines, they keep little things that keep Windows Phones special, like camera buttons in their phones.

I just recently got my computer. When it came, the buttons on the side of my laptop that adjust volume used to work. Now they don't. Anyone know what I might have done to disable them or something?
