Portege M800 - volume wheel issue - volume level jumps

Question: Portege M800 - volume wheel issue - volume level jumps

Hi all,

I have Toshiba Portege M800, and I have a problem with the volume wheel.
If I try to increase or decrease the volume by this volume wheel, it will change, but the volume not change linear.

For example, when I increase volume from 0 to something, volume is changed, during rolling, e.g. from 0-1-2-3-4-5-3-8-6 (thats just an example).

Why doesn't it change linear, e.g. 0-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 ?
Is it caused by software or it is hardware problem?

Could I claim the goods?

Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Portege M800 - volume wheel issue - volume level jumps

Hi

I have had a similar issue with the volume level on my Satellite notebook.
I tired everything; updated the BIOS, sound driver? I have also reinstalled my OS using the Roecvery disk but I didn?t notice any improvements.

Finally my ASP technician checked the volume wheel and cleaned the contacts and removed some dust.
This was the key?
The dirt affected the volume wheel functionality?

In my cases this helped but this does not mean that this will help you as well.
I think you should also update the BIOS and should check if you could update the sound driver.
If this will not help then it would be recommended to contact the ASP technician for opinion?

So I installed some new Windows updates today (whatever was available via Windows Update). I restarted my computer to enable the updates. When it came back on, my task bar was white for some reason. I solved that problem using the first solution I found here: [SOLVED] Taskbar is white

Well I didn't change my volume before doing that, so I don't know if it worked before I followed that solution. I do know that after following that solution, my volume meter no longer shows up when I change the volume via the keys for it on my keyboard. This is pretty annoying because it was convenient to always see my audio level when I adjusted the volume.

I am on a HP Pavilion dv7-6c95dx with beats audio, running Windows 7 64-bit. When I changed my volume, the beats audio logo with a volume meter under it would pop up, but it no longer shows up. I haven't noticed any change in the quality of my sound, and I can still actually adjust the volume level. The problem is the volume meter no longer displays to show me the volume level.

If anyone has any clue as to why this happened, that would be great!

Answer:Volume meter no longer displays when I adjust volume level

Try rolling back any keyboard driver updates, or go to the keyboard manufacturers website and download most up to date driver(s) from there.

For some reason the onscreen display for the volume controls and screen brightness on my W530 stop working after coming back from sleep or resume. I updated Power Management, Hotkey and Interface but the problem still rears its ugly head. If I go into screen resolution and advanced and on screen then uncheck Enable onscreen and recheck it...the controls work again.

Answer:Volume control buttons do not display volume level...

try to reinstall the OSD software. Uninstall the current OSD software that you have, and download the latest version from below.

I bought a U300 last week and I'm finding that the volume control wheel doesn't seem to move very smoothly. It seems you have to push it in slightly to adjust the volume and when you release your finger the volume goes back in the direction you've moved it from slowly. Has anyone else experienced this?

Also, when putting pressure above the express card slot the casing compresses. Does this happen on all U300s?

I would go back to the shop I bought it from and ask but I live quite some distance from it so I thought I would see if anyone here could help first. Any replied much appreciated.

Thanks.

Answer:Satellite U300 - strange issue with volume control wheel

Hi,

sounds like the wheel is stuck and something around the wheel is blocking the volume wheel. I think the best idea is to return the machine like you said, since it?s very unusual what you?ve described.

You can also send your machine to an authorized service partner for a hardware checkup/repair.
If you need some help to find the nearest one in your country you can use the following link to find some:

I recently bought a new M800 with Windows 7 Pro. After a few days, the onboard audio became muddy with low volume. I disabled/enabled the audio speaker device and noticed that the Realtek driver updated in the Lenovo system patch. But there is no improvement in the audio. Can anyone suggest a solution? Thanks

I'm not sure if this happened with 5.55, but with 5.56, when I hit the volume up or down on my keyboard to turn the sound down for everything, it turns down winamp's volume bar too. Sometimes I can move winamp's volume bar up and down and it won't even be working. What causes this? It's pretty annoying for the music to turn down twice as fast or winamp's volume bar to not even work at all.EDIT: Moved to a more appropriate forum

My volume wheel isn't working as it should, when i'm trying to turn the volume down, it jumps up again. same when turning up, it's jumping down. To turn it up or down i have to turn and turn and turn before it moves. If I'm turning the sound up its like it's moving 1 up, 1 down, 1 up, 1 down, 2 up, 1 down... and so on.
Does anyone have any solution for this problem? It's like this in Qosmio player and Windows.

Hi,

I am using a Portege M800-116 running XP-SP3.

Problem 1:
Connecting Line-Out to a stereo and playing music w/ Winamp or WinMediaPlayer works fine on batteries.
As soon as I connect the power adapter, loud high frequency hiss and hum static disturbs the experience.

Problem 2:
Recording WAV or MP3 files with internal or external mic only produce mediocre results.
The resulting files include a high level of high frequency hiss and hum static.
Connecting power increases the problem.

Comparing playback and recording sound quality with my old trusted Portege M100:
My M800 is a not only low quality - it's plain unusable.

Problem 3:
Toshiba HWSetup does not start from Controlpanel.
Have tried un- and re-installing to no avail.

Thanks for guiding me towards a solution.

Regards
T

Answer:Portege M800 - Sound issue and HWSetup does not start

Here is a test recording to document the problem.

The first part has strong noise while the power adapter is attached to the M800.
The second part has still static even without the adapter.

I have a M800 connected to a Dynadock U docking station.
I have problems when i try and set my external monitor as the primary device and have have the laptop as the extended monitor.

I am running Windows XP.

The only options it will allow are: Clone, Extended (laptop is main and external is the extended option)

If i use the WIndows Graphic option it will not allow me to set the external monitor as the main display (i tick this option and click apply and it remains unticked)

If anyone could help that would be great.
Otherwise i would recommend not to use the dynadock

Answer:Portege M800 and external monitor with Dynadock issue

Sorry mate but I still don?t understand what you are speaking about? What problem do you have?

Fact is that Dynadock video drivers give you the option of viewing a total of three screens.
- The screen on the notebook,
- external monitor connected to the video port on the notebook (if available)
- ewxternal monitor connected to the Dynadock

Furthermore you can use Mirror Mode and Extended Mode.

Mirror Mode creates an identical display ? from your computer screen to the external monitor
Extended Mode extended Mode lets you split your display across multiple monitors.

These are the features which you can use in connection with Dynadock

Remove the old remote controller software from the system.
Then visit the Toshiba European driver page and download the necessary tools and drivers.

On the Toshiba page I found the Remote Control Manager v.2.4.0.1. This driver is needed to get the Remote control work.

Hi,

I just installed 7 64-bit from Vista 32-bit on my Dell Vostro 1500. 7 automatically supported my Sigmatel sound card with Microsoft's High Definition Audio Device driver; Dell Support don't have any compatible audio drivers for my new OS.

Sound works well through the speakers, but when plugging in headphones into the jack, the system's volume jumps to a different value - usually to a higher level when lower beforehand, and vice versa. Upon removing the heaphones, the volume returns to its original value.

Is there anything I can do to keep the volume constant?

Thanks!

Answer:Volume jumps when plugging in headphones

Hi wassupjg and welcome to Windows 7 Forums

Did you have the same behaviour when you had Vista? I suspect that it is a driver issue. The MS drivers are OK, but they only provide basic functionality. Other features, such as equalisers, etc, are only available by using device-specific drivers.

Is this a mechanical or software driven control?

If I turn the wheeel 'up' the volume sometimes goes down? there does not seem to be a 'stop' on the wheel.

Any advice will be gratefully received

Thanks

Answer:Re: Satellite P200-123 volume control wheel

Hi there,

the volume control of Satellite P200 is a software driven, so it has no physical stop like on older machines which means that there are some drawbacks regarding the time of changing the vol control and the reaction.
Don?t ask me why they implemented this software driven wheel but every new series of machines has it and it?s forseeable that they will stay with this technique...

You must work gently with this wheel to avoid such phenomenons like turning the wheel "up" but the volume goes down.
I have the same on my Tecra S5 and it drives me sometimes crazy but I have to live with it...

Hello,
I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and I have a Logitech G510 keyboard with a volume wheel. When using this volume wheel to change the volume the screen will go black for about half a second and there is a beep that can be heard through my headphones. There appears to be input lag while this is happening and I can see in task manager that the Client Server Runtime Process (csrss.exe) CPU usage goes up (Not sure if this has anything to do with the problem). This problem never happened in Windows 8.x. Any ideas?

Edit: When the screen flashes once while I'm playing Minecraft Windows 10 Edition the app crashes.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A105-S4344 laptop running Windows XP. Unfortunately, the volume scroll wheel broke off and actually got pushed into the laptop. For some reason this scroll wheel controls the master volume, and presides over all other controls, and now that it has broken off I can't get any sound.

I've tried to do some research and found that if it was running Unbuntu, then I could disable some sort of keyboard shortcut. Here's the thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=665849 . But I have yet to find some solution regarding Windows XP.

I honestly could care less to have a functional scroll wheel, thats why I haven't sent it in. Plus $300 to fix a simple scroll wheel seems way too much.

I was hoping that someone could offer a few suggestions as to how I could disable or bypass the volume wheel and ultimately get my sound back. I'm sure anyone with a Toshiba satellite and a similar problem could benefit from this thread whether or not the problem gets fixed.

Thank all you for your time, and hopefully there IS a solution!

Question: Volume level

This is really weird, and I've tried WinXP forums and Microsoft to try to find the reason and solution for this, and haven't gotten any response or found anything like it. My volume level changes by itself. I'll set the volume using the icon in the systray to halfway between the bottom and the top, and it'll stay that way for a while, even if I restart the computer. But if I leave the computer and come back, the volume will be at the bottom again. No one else uses the computer, so it's not a case of someone else changing it. I have a locally made computer running Windows XP. Other than the OS itself, the programs I have installed that use sound are Winamp and Real Player, but the volume changes even if I haven't used either of them. What could be the problem?

Question: Volume level

I want to make my audio louder for music. All of my settings on my computer are turned up and my head phones are turned up. But I am looking for a way to make them louder. With everything turned up it seems like a 6.5-7 volume. I want to make it a 10-11. I want to have to turn down my headset volume controller because my headphones are to loud.

Answer:Volume level

You will need to either use headphones that are more sensitive (ie that have a greater sound output for a given input) or use the amplifier in a set of powered speakers with a headphone socket. Powered speakers can deliver more power than a computer sound card can.

Be aware that extremely high sound levels in headphones can damage your hearing.

Don't forget your punctuation, it makes it easier to understand As far as this part, are you talking about in media player or a game or what? Do you mean the volume meter that sits in the system tray? If so, click start, control panel, sounds and audio devices, click "place volume icon in the taskbar"

My new laptop seems hardwired to think that if I set the volume to 20, so long as I have headphones in, I want my volume at 20 for all sounds, ever. This makes music which varies from quiet and loud feel extremely alien and even ruins the feel of some videos and games. But it's most notable when watching a youtube video and I change the volume. Turning it up makes the video louder for a split second before returning to what it was, turning it down? Well, that works for a few seconds and returns to being too loud.

My new laptop uses HP Beats Audio. While I'm currently blaming Windows 8 for this problem, it'd be silly not to mention it. Unfortunately, a google search didn't get me any answer for beats either except how to uninstall it.

This doesn't happen on my old Laptop, which runs Windows 7 and appears to lack a special audio device. Looking online for a fix has only returned me nonsense about Windows 8 reducing volume for communications devices (a feature which I have off). In my search, I found this bit of information from Winsupersite.com:

"Incidentally, Windows 8?s new Metro-style volume controls lack many of the more sophisticated controls that are available via the desktop. There?s no way to control the volume of individual Metro-style apps, for example, and that?s true of both the new Metro volume controls and the legacy desktop interfaces. Instead, the system automatically controls app volume, muting or lowering the volume of background apps when needed."... Read more

Answer:Volume is set at a certain level

I don't recall seeing another post about this specific problem, although I have not looked at every post on this forum, thus I would consider it a problem in the PC, not Windows 8.

I have seen several problems with the Beats Audio, which is an "enhancement" to the audio chip that is being used.

You can try temporarily disabling the Beats Audio and see if that makes a difference. Otherwise with a new PC, which should be in warranty, I would contact HP support (or take it back for an exchange if you bought it locally and have a return option).

Hi!

Recently *Toshiba Tempro* proposed me to upgrade bios, sound driver (Conexant) and some other drivers for my Vista. I did it and then I noticed that the "hardware" volume control - *volume wheel* - did not work. Still I have a control of the volume level just clicking on the "volume icon", but turning the wheel right and left does not affect the volume level. I've tried all the available options in the control panel, but there are simply *NO OPTION for a wheel*.

I thought it got broken. BUT: there was a miracle - if the *registry editor* (regedt32.exe) is open the wheel _works_ perectly! But if I close it (or even if I click on another window or minimize regedt32) everything is wrong - the volume level stops at the last level "remembered" by my Vista (I've tested it hearing some music in the background).

Therefore I think that:
1. The wheel is working and sending its changes but Vista (or a new sound driver) does not recognize it
2. When the registry editor is opened these changes are "updated" - so the wheel seems to work. But when registry editor is not active there is no mechanism for such "update".

Any solutions? Do you know which keys in the registry changes when I turn the volume wheel? Should I

Regards
Yacek.

Hi

I think you should simply reinstall the VAP again.
The Value added package contains some applications which control the Toshiba Media buttons, FN buttons and also the Volume indicator.

First of all you should remove the old VAP from the system.
Then clean the registry using an tool like CCleaner for example.

Then after new reboot install the VAP and reboot the notebook.

Hey,

I am having a little but annoying problem with my toshiba Satellite P300-18m.
With my manual volume control wheel to be exact.

When I use this wheel to adjust the volume, the laptop responds very badly.

Sometimes it doesn't at all, sometimes it responds after a while, but it always moves in a strange way (it fluctuates very much, but still the netto movement is slightly in the right direction). I also noticed that the laptop gets confused when i use this wheel.
If I open notepad and try to adjust the volume, it generally types c's when I increase the volume, and b's if I decrease it.

This is for example very annoying if I am instant messaging or when I watch a movie (since these B's and C's are also hotkeys).
And I don't know if this is related, but if I connect the laptop with my home entertainment system (5.1 surround), the sound only comes from 1 speaker (the one on the right) and is very low.

Is there anyone who knows how to solve this problem(s)?

(I have vista with 32bits)

He used compressed air spray?

I did the same. I have blow the air through the small opening (near the volume wheel) and could clean the contacts?
Since that the volume wheel works like at the first day of purchase?

Is it possible to increase the sensibility or responsiveness of the digital volume control wheel on the front of the laptop?

Before the A300 I had another Toshiba laptop with an analog volume control wheel, which was much more comfortable to use. One turn only would cover the whole volume scale. The a300's wheel must be turned several times to reduce volume consistently.

As this one is digital I imagine that there is some kind of driver controlling the wheel, so there should be a way to adjust the responsiveness of it. But I couldn't find anything myself.

Thank in advance for any help!

Answer:Satellite A300-25G How to increase the responsiveness of the volume wheel?

>Is it possible to increase the sensibility or responsiveness of the digital volume control wheel on the front of the laptop?

I doubt this is possible? I?ve got a U400 and another Satellite notebook with the same volume wheel and didn?t find any settings which could increase the sensibility of volume wheel?

You can increase the sound volume in control panel -> sound -> playback and could change the volume level separately.

The other night, while i was running the programs guitar pro five and wavosaur, and my audio crashed.
I fixed it by reinstalling the Codec. But before it crashed, when i pressed the volume adjustment keys in the keyboard, a visual display of the volume level would come up. now these transparent blue boxes have stopped appearing.

it looked similar to this. what can i do to fix it?

Thanks in advance,

Answer:Volume Level Display

Reinstalling your Audio Card software will be a good place to start. This will fix most Audio problems most of the time and it is usually the simplest and quickest option.

Let us know if that works.

I have been struggling with trying to find a fix for this for a long time now. I have searched various forums and tried the couple suggestions that seemed to be offered for similar issues but nothing has worked. I have no other serious issues with W7 but this is REALLY annoying and making me want to re-install XP.

Regardless of what I'm doing my volume level continuously changes. It's too loud..then too quiet. Sometimes it's fine for long periods then other times it changes every 5-10 seconds. It does this all on it's own with me doing NOTHING! I have tried putting the setting in the sound communications tab to "do nothing" and have also disabled all sound effects in the speaker properties to eliminate that loudness equalization option but nothing has worked. This also happens in a wide variety of programs so I doubt this is an application problem. It happens in several games, it happens watching Youtube videos and happens randomly with any number of websites with sound. It goes so quiet I can't hear so I turn it up..then 10 seconds later the volume goes back to where it was and blasts my eardrums out. I can't keep the volume at a steady level and it's DRIVING ME INSANE! Hlep!

BTW, I'm using W7 64 bit with onboard Realtek HD sound. I should also have all updated drivers as far as I know. Anyone have any info on this?

Answer:Volume level continuously changes

I'm also experiencing this problem.
I'm not sure if it's the drivers problem or the recent update for RealTek Drivers.
It gets really frustrating, plus given the fact my computer recently crashes and restarts randomly ever since I updated my realtek driver.
RealTek and/or Microsoft needs to address these sound issues ASAP.
I know I'm not the only that wishes not to upgrade to Windows 7 if I knew the problems and issues that were going to come with them.

My Dell has always had an extremely high volume level with the volume meter at only 50%. When I'm listening to Pandora, I have to keep the Windows volume control at 25-30% and the Pandora volume control at 25-30%.

Is there a way to reset/recalibrate the control so that the loud 50 (or deafening 67% that it loves to default to sometimes) is reset to 100%?

Hey,

I'm downloading a Cure show and the volume is too low. It's soundboard and high bitrate, so the sound quality is good, but the volume is a lot lower than my other music. So if I was going to randomize it with other tunes, I wouldn't be able to hear it.

Any suggestions? thx

My system volume is very high, and 15 seconds later or something close to that the volume goes back up to max. this is really irritating, because when i get a notification or use cortana it hurts my ears, and when i change the volume it goes back up... Can someone please help me keeping the volume down?

Answer:How do i keep the system volume to a certain level?

You could try reducing the volume of system sounds only, not the main volume. Right click on the speaker icon and select Open Volume Mixer. Then set the system sound to minimum or even mute them if you don't need them. See if you have a problem again. I suspect some application interferes and restores main volume to max. To see your applications and uninstall it, click on the search icon and type Control. This will show you the classic (desktop version) Control Panel. Click to open it and then click on View by Large icons to see all controls. Click on Program and Features and wait for it to load. See if you have any application relative to sound that may cause the problem. If you have or can download the audio drivers, it is a good idea to try uninstalling and reinstalling them to see if your problem fixes.

I'm at the end of my rope with my volume issue. I'm running Win 7 64 Pro with a Creative X-FI Gamer card (latest drivers).

The issue: Master volume keeps resetting to 30%. Noticed it happens when I bring my PC out of standby, and when I run certain apps like Creative's sound panel. I've tried the "Do Nothing" option on the Comms tab, and also tried unchecking the Exclusive Mode options which give apps direct control over the sound card. Nothing works.

Is there a way to set the master volume in the registry and/or create a task which runs periodically to adjust the volume to where I want it? Any other ideas?

Thanks.

Answer:Volume level keeps resetting to 30%

This is usually a function of a corrupted driver or some other application "taking over" the sound card's volume control. However, I've seen this problem on some older Dell's with SoundBlaster sound cards and that turned out to be a BIOS problem. Clearing the BIOS fixed the old Dell PC problem.

Ladies and Gentlemen your assistance please:Sony Vaio FJ3N running XPsp3:Put in a Region 1 DVD and was prompted to install Interactual Player2 to give full functionality/access to the disk. Foolishly agreed. DVD subsequently ran, but I needed full volume to hear it and it had changed my screen res??Tried to change the screen res to discover usual 5 settings were now reduced to 3!Uninstalled ?Interactual Player? to no avail. Finally completed a system restore. 5 levels of screen res now returned, but still need volume level at max to hear any CD/DVD properly. Other Windows sounds not associated with the DVD/CD play at normal levels. The only other thing of note is that my DVD region is now 2 with no changes left..Any tips?

Answer:Volume level at max but quieter?!

Region settingThere are actually up to 3 region protections on a system:- 1 in the DVD drive- 1 in the Operating System (windows) - More info on Windows region management.- 1 in the software player (eg. WinDVD, PowerDVD...)When you flash your drive with a region free firmware (RPC-1), you remove the region counter from the drive itself completely, but with this counter gone, the software counters kick in to replace the one from the DVD drive. This means that you still have these other 2 to defeat!!!.An alternate region free solution that is available for some drives is known as an "Autoreset" firmware: Instead of removing the counter from the drive completely, the counter simply resets itself to an unlocked state when the computer is restarted. This way, the drive appears as region protected (RPC-2) but the counter can be changed indefinitely. Creating autoreset patches is slightly more difficult for the patcher, but makes the life of the user easier because DVD Genie and Region Killer are not required as they are for RPC-1 firmwares. On the other hand, it's easy for software manufacturers to detect autoreset firmwares, and if they decide to do so, you will still need a software patch in the long run. This is why RPC-1 firmwares are seen by most as the long term solution. So, unless a program like DISCInfo click here or Drive Region Info tells you that your drive is still protected or you used an autoreset firmware, your drive IS region free, and any region counters that you st... Has anyone else noticed and/or fixed this issue? It seems that sometimes when I'm watching a video (usually in Media Player Classic) or listening to music (in MediaMonkey), sometimes when I pause playback, after resuming, the volume seems to increase significantly. I don't recall having volume issues before on this computer when it was running Windows 8.1, so I'm suspecting this is a Windows 10 issue. Just curious if it's a known issue or if it's just me and my setup.

As the topic title says, the volume wheel on my A300-16I works as expected, increasing and decreasing the volume with the irritating and unusual side effect of typing the letter "c" while turning.

This is quite bothersome as most media players have a function attributed to that key and this is now triggered every time I change the volume. It doesn't happen very consistently (which leads me to suspect it's not software/driver related), but more than enough to be a nuisance.
Winamp gets paused, GOM player speeds up videos and my e-mails get c's interspersed in them.

Does anyone know how and why this happens and how it can be fixed?

Answer:Volume wheel works but types the letter "c" when used - Satellite A300-16I

Did you install mouse or keyboard drivers for an external mouse or keyboard?
Perhaps Logitech/Microsoft/other drivers are conflicting with the standard media buttons/controls.

Update the BIOS as well, perhaps its an issue that was fixed.

Good day to you all,

I have a satellite P300 and the volume control wheel in front do not work anymore as it used to be. Impossible to adjust the volume anymore, unless openind the sound icone control. On top of it, if I try to adjust it (volume) while working with a word processor, a serie of C is written on the screen page.
What is going on and how can I get it working properly again?

Thank's a lot

Hi JCP34,

I found a similar thread about the same behaviour on Satellite A300 and the solution was very easy: It was dirt inside and with compressed air spray you have to blow out this. After this it?s working again.

Hi,

I?m really wondering that you catching the volume control on the front of the notebook.

I have Satellite L500D that is similar to yours and I never touch this volume control. I never had a problem with it. For example if I type something on the notebook or work with the touchpad only, my hands lay on the top cover where I don?t touch this volume control wheel.

Anyway: As far as I know this can?t be disabled so you have to life with it.

There should be a program that displays on the screen the volume level when I change volume and another one that allows me to use the play, forward, backward or stop buttons either with Medial player or with JetAudio.

Where can I get such a program??

Answer:Satellite A100-787: Need driver to use Control buttons and volume wheel

Do you use the original preinstalled Toshiba image?
The Toshiba Vista image contains all necessary drivers and utilities and using this OS everything should functions.

If you have installed other OS like XP then the XP drivers are necessary.
If I?m not mistaken the volume level screen notification does not appears using XP.

Furthermore if you want to use the Toshiba control buttons you have to install the right drivers like Controls, common modules, etc?
The right installation order is necessary and important. Therefore I recommend checking the installation instruction on the Toshiba download page!

By the way; the control buttons are preconfigured and I don?t think that it could be possible to use it with another players like i.e Jetaudio.

Hello everyone. I have a user at work whose sounds stays only at one volume level when he listens to music CDs. I tried almost everything to solve this problem. I went into the add/remove programs applet to remove the multimedia component and reinstalled it. Also there is not even a icon for the sound in the lower tray or in the control panel. He's running Win NT workstation. Nothing seems to work...Please help its driving me crazy.

Note: I can go into Find files and find the executable file for the volume control which i believe is volsnd32.exe and I get an error message that states:
"There are no mix devices installed on your system. Please install the correct drivers for the mix devices."

Hi,

As the topic suggests, is there any way to permanently lock the mic volume level so no applications no nothing but me myself can change it?

Reason I ask is for some reason my microphone volume level keeps resetting by itself. I like to have it at about 75% but all of a sudden it has dropped to 18% making my voice barely audible in audio recordings and sometimes I find it at 100% making my voice too loud.

I already did some Google searching and looks like this problem is very common and usually caused by applications such as Skype etc automatically adjusting the mic volume level. In my case I'm not running any of those "normal" applications but instead I'm running some special addon applications for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. My guess is one or a few of these are causing my issue but since I need these applications I can't solve the problem by getting rid of them. Instead I need to find a way to "lock" the mic volume if that is possible?

Any help would be most appreciated!

Guess I should also mention I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

Many thanks in advance!

Answer:Is there any way to permanently lock the mic volume level?

Programs are supposed to return the audio levels to what they were when you exit the program. Unfortunately many programs don't do that and leave the audio levels where they were in that program. In the case of "back acting" programs, if there are audio setups in the program you could set the mic level for what you want and then when you exit those "bad acting" programs it wouldn't change and be at the level you want.

Another possibility is a utility program that you could run and reset the levels to what you want. I saw reference to a utility recently on here. I'll try to find it and post back.

The thread is in the Windows8 forum. Here: http://www.eightforums.com/sound-aud...lume-boot.html It is for a set volume level at boot, but as its just a utility, it could be run anytime.

Greetings everybody,

This is not a problem, but an inconvenience. When I plug in my headphones the level of volume is very loud. Meaning the volume doesn't automatically go down a bit. Hell, this isn't safe...

Is there a way for the Windows 7 audio program to remember my audio level for the headphones, which is 4 instead of 100... I bet a few of you have encountered this.

I always have to waste a few seconds manually switching the volume level.

I've included an attachment, as you can see there, there is no "Headphones". This is when I have my headphones plugged in, also it is the same as when they're plugged out. It appears that my headphones are not being recognized as a different device.

They really aren't a device unless they're USB headphones. (but that's another story) The audio card mechanically switches the connections so you're getting the same output normally going to speakers.

At least that's the way it is on my system.... and yes, the phones are too loud.

I've even tried usb wired keyboards & mice and the problem will still occur. To temporarily fix the issue, I put the system to sleep and then immediately wake it back up. I know power is cut to the usb controller. I also know that the touch screen and all input devices are usb devices. I've already been down the route of looking at drivers (re-installing) which had no impact on the issue. So far the only thing in common is the USB controller or HW/firmware. I think this may be a firmware issue with the usb controller but I'm not 100% sure. Does anyone have any other clues that may help me track this down?

If you can't find a solution their is another way. You might not want to spend the money as I did. I have an Exterior Hard drive and Acronis True Image for making a backup. I can make a backup of everthing on my computer. At the very first when I bought my HP computer i create the 3 DVD (have more just in case their needed) that allows me to restore my computer back to like it came from the Factory. (located in All Programs) I can restore my computer back to like it came from the Factory. Install Acronis True Image and if needed I can use the backup I made. This will also works on a blank new hard drive. --------------------------- If after the Factory install and you still have the same problem you described than it's not corrupt files but your computer electronic that's at fault.I don't really need a computer, It's just entertainment for me. You can run Error Checking ---------- sfc /scannow -- I can't say it they will help. You can use what Microsoft calls Clean Boot ----- You can - Start - Control Panel - Backup and Restore - Create a system repair disc --- Use a CD for this.

Hi guys, basically I have purchased a behringer c-1u, of course before I did some research and there were issues with the volume. Now that I have it, I have the same issue that many people with the mic also have, and that is with the volume it records at. In the windows sound mixer the recording level is set to high, however I still have to be really close to the mic to get a decent volume back.

The light on the mic is also green, and according to several sources is meant to be blue to indicate phantom power. I have checked my motherboard website and the ports are USB 2.0 so phantom power should be working, otherwise the mic wouldn't work right?

So yeah I have seen vids on youtube where people have the mic 5-6 inches away and record perfectly without any problems..but for some reason I have to record like 1 inch away and the response will still be low..

Also I am using cool edit pro 2.0, if that is any help..and after recording, I can turn the volume of the clip up without the quality messing up, however being a condenser mic I shouldn't be having to increase volume and recording from an inch away..

So yeah I'm curious to find out whether phantom power is the problem and how I can sort it, and if it isn't then how I can adjust the volumes..

Thanks before hand

Hey,

When I use noise canceling headphones with my computer (dell inspiron 1525 running XP sp3) the volume is way too loud. Even with the volume slider in the taskbar at the lowest possible volume its still too loud.

Is there a more precise way to control the volume level in XP? (such as entering a number value from 1 to 100 to set the volume, etc.)

I would be willing to use 3rd party programs (if they exist).

Thanks

Go to Control Panel --> Sound and Audio Devices and click on Advanced under Device volume. You should have a bunch of sliders there. Try turning one down at a time to see which one affects your headphones.

G'morning all,

I'm running Vista Ultimate 64-bit on an A8N-SLI Premium with a X-Fi XtremeMusic with the v2.15.0004 drivers. My speakers are about five years old, they're a set of Altec Lansing ADA995 5.1 that I got from Dell along with my first computer. They have no hardware controls except for a dial on the sub that controls bass level.

Vista's volume level seems to be much higher than XP.

If I listen to a song in Vista with Winamp with Winamp's volume turned up to 100%, and the Volume Mixer>Speakers slider set to 1, and Sound>Playback>Speakers>Properties>Levels>Play Control showing up as 0 (when I turn the Volume Mixer>Speakers slider up to 7, Play Control level changes to 1), the volume is uncomfortably high for me sitting about two-three feet away from the three front speakers.

Is this simply another situation where Vista's driver framework, or whatever, is showing a difference from XP (perhaps also combined with my older semi-crappy speakers)?

Or is there something I can do somewhere?

Thanks!

For some reason Windows 10 keeps resetting my headphone microphone volume level to 81 every time I reboot even though I manually set it to 50. I use Dragon NaturallySpeaking software to control my computer because of a disability and its recognition is terrible with the volume level setting that high! In the settings I don't have it set for the software to take control of the microphone so I don't believe that Dragon is doing this.

I've gone so far as to recalibrate the microphone settings for Dragon with me talking extremely loud and another time with me talking extremely soft yet the microphone keeps resetting itself to 81 no matter what I do. I know there has to be some solution to this problem but I'm not sure what it is.

Any help and/or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Open Control Panel > in the upper right make sure to "View By:" Large Icons
Device Manager > find "Sound, video and game controllers" > expand the list in that category > right click on the device that controls your audio > uninstall > you will need to reboot your system to effect the changes
Device Manager > Sound, video and yada > expand > audio controller (should have a yellow triangle with an exclamation point) > right click > install drivers > install automatically > reboot

To change the volume level on Linux just put the little arrow-click on the audio icon on the taskbar and use the mouse wheel without having to click. This is possible in Windows Seven, changing some configuration in the system?

Answer:How to Change volume level only with mousewheel

To change volume level is to change volume level in some application. So for example winamp and VLC media player will allow you to scroll the wheel to adjust volume change, this is set in the preferences of those applications. Like wise in other media applications, you just need to fiddle around. I don't know about doing this for the desktop/system sounds.

I didnt want the energy management function but just the volume and brightness level indicators so i tried to change the program installation by clicking change in the uninstall a program bit of windows but I cant select which components to uninstall when i do that. I can either uninstall the entire energy management program which also uninstalls the level indicators i want or dont uninstall anything. Can someone tell me what i should do to get the level indicators back on screen without lenovo energy management?

Answer:On screen volume level indicators

I`m using Windows 10 Pro and PS/2 keyboard DELL and just want to know is it possible to create short key to set the sound level directly with the keyboard when play video.
My keyboard is not multimedia keyboard.
When you watch youtube (for example) it have way to regulate audio level with the keyboard, but some others players nave not this option.
I know it have many hotkeys in Windows 10.
It will be helpfull to know hotkey to open even just my nvidia hd audio scale, which icon is located in the taskbar on the right side when i play video on full screen mode, if it`s possible.
I made Ctrl+Alt+C hotkey to open Windows sounds, just as is described into that post here:http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/56892-sound-shortcuts-create.html
but still don`t know to open sound level bar?

Answer:Volume level on Lenovo X60s

Hi Westywannabe,

How long have you had your system and what operating system are you using?

Sometimes it depends on what headphones or speakers you are using.
It can also depend on what program you are using to play your media.
What media player ar eyou using?
Is the volume turned up in the program?

Try this:
right click speakers on taskbar
click playback devices
right click the speakers you're using
click properties
make adjustments as need to tone, levels, and enhancements

Let us know if that helps.

Hi everybody,

as described I use a Logitech G510 keyboard with multimedia keys and the posibility to insert a headset into it (the keyboard got its own soundcard). The keyboard also got a volume wheel which worked with Vista like it should: I could controle the speaker's volume by the keyboard.

Now with Win 7 I can't use the wheel anymore, even with the latest drivers. Does anyone know this problem?

My system:
OS Win 7 professional 32 bit
Intel core duo E4500 2,2 GHz; 2GB RAM
Sapphire HD5770 graphiccard
Best regards from Germany!

Hallo,

Anyway I own a satellite L300 and have for about a year now I think, and it has several things broken on it, not really my fault but I have to pay for it, so I was wondering if someone could tell me how to get it fixed/how much etc if I can do it myself/send it to Toshiba (which would cost a lot more wouldn't it?)

Firstly, it has a broken screen, I still use it because Ive got it attached to a TV screen that took me aggges to find and set up haha, but the screen is cracked and only about a third of the left hand side is slightly visible, so Id need to fix that. BTW I didn't break it, my terribly annoying stepfather did to annoy me, long story.

Second, it has a little knob thing on the front for the volume that you can turn left to go down and right to go up etc, anyways I was away from home for about a week and my mother used my laptop and when I got back this little knob was broken, she denied breaking it and said I did but I wasn't at home for a week so I don't know how I did.. So, whenever I so much as touch this knob thing the volume goes from whatever it is straight down to 0, no matter what way I turn it, and if I'm on msn or a document writing program whenever I touch the knob it spurts the letter c and the letter b at random, so I don't honestly know whats wrong with it, here is an example; cccccccccccccccccccbbcccbcccc

Thirdly (And hopefully lastly) the battery will NOT stay in its holder thing, I don't know how that broke but I have currently got ... Read more

If the screen is broken then a replacement is needed. For that the notebook must be disassembled and this is no easy! It?s really tricky to remove all this part in the right order and would not recommend doing this if you never disassembled the notebook.
The new screen can be purchased from a local ASP (service partner) but it?s not cheap!
It?s about 300-380$

I am, for the first time, trying to use the computer for audio recording.   It works, but the maximum sound level is pretty soft.  I've tried maxing out the volume controls both in the Control Panel audio dialog and in the recording software.   Is there a software fix?  If I need a pre-amplifier or a different mike, what should I get?Particulars:-3 year old HP Intel machine, WinXP Home.- Realtek audio card- Audacity recording software- Sony ECM-MS907 mikeThanks,CSmythe

Answer:Low maximum volume level when audio recording

Are you recording directly from a microphone? Turn on the +20 decibel boost. It should be under the advanced sound recording settings.

I keep my system's volume level set to 30%. Sometimes, I need to adjust this for one reason or another. After doing so, I'd like to be able to press a keyboard shortcut to set it back to 30%. Is there an easy way to do this? Maybe an AHK or FastKeys macro?

I know I can do this to adjust the volume up or down - I already have keyboard shortcuts for those functions. But I want one to set the volume to 30% with a single keyboard shortcut.

TIA for any help!

Okay so I just did a clean install to fix some various issues with my machine, it has fixed all but one, I cannot see the volume levels ( or any other notifications for that matter caps lock etc, but that's the topic for another thread) when hitting the keyboard buttons on the laptop.

I have toggled the volume control on and off just to see if that would kick start it, and it did not. I had restored all icon default behaviors, and no dice as well, have tried looking on gateways website, and download any new audio drivers, also with no luck.

This is a very annoying thing I wish to resolve as it's rather annoying thing not to be able to judge the sound volume just from the tray.. any help in this issues would be greatly appreciated..

Answer:No volume level indicator on my gateway NV77H

Well; I would try completely uninstalling all of your audio devices via the device manager in the system tab of the control panel. Completely uninstall them; reboot; and hopefully windows will re-detect them; reinstall the drivers, etc. for them and hopefully that will fix the problem for ya. If it doesnt; post back and we can go from there.

i have critical battery sound set on my laptop to turn on at 10% and then 7% and shut the computer down at 5% if i do not do anything about it. problem is, sometimes i have the volume real low or off and dont hear it. is it possible (in windows, not an external program, although i will look to externals if not) to set the volume at a standard when the critical alarm goes off? in example, my laptop is at volume 2, then it hits critical level of 10% battery left, i want the computer to automatically bump up the volume to 20 or 30 depending on what i choose. kinda nit picky i know, but hell i know it can be done, if not in windows surely someone can recommend a good program. thanks to everyone who takes time to read and reply. -n00b

Answer:critical battery sound volume level?

You would need a special program just for that function, that whenever it needs to report the battery condition it would also raise the volume level. I've never seen anything like that. Have you tried doing a google search?

I have an HP zv6130us/Windows XP in which I had to replace the hard drive.

I loaded everything using the set up discs that originally came with the laptop. I performed all Windows updates and downloaded some updated drivers at the HP website.

Everything is fine except I do not have the on screen display for volume control (green bars running vertically at the bottom of the screen)

I had this problem when the machine was new and HP provided me with a link to download a patch.

I called HP this morning and they now want $59 to provide me with an answer because the machine is out of warranty. I understand that, I was just looking for an answer, not for them to fix the machine.

Anyone know of a resolution?

Need littile help with Realtek HD audio manager _volume controller level_

Toshiba Satellite A200-1m8 Winxp sp3... I'm not sure of my realtek audio manager version.. but updated to the final versions available

When I Adjust the volume level , the volume level changes correctly in the built-in program... but it changes into inconstant levels on the very first and the third quarter in the volume level of realtek's program ...... which is annoying and can't work with....

I wonder if there's any way to solve this

Thanks....

Answer:Satellite A200-1M8 - inconstant volume level changes

I doubt that can be fixed by yourself, unless its been fixed in a newer version of the Realtek driver.

Have a look at the Toshiba Website for updated Audio drivers, install it and see how that goes.

Answer:Re: Difference between Portege M800-105 and M800-107

Hi

I don?t think that there is a big difference between both notebooks series.
The M800-105 was delivered in Germany and the M800-107 was delivered in other countries?

I think this is the main difference ;)

Hello,I have a quite strange problem with my Thinkpad X61s (running XP Pro): When I try to adjust the volume below the value of 2 or to completely mute it, either via the Thinkpad's hotkeys or the Windows volume adjustment (the small speaker in the task bar), the machine totally freezes. The cursor is still movable but dysfunctional, i.e. I cannot click anything; there is no way to change this state except for pressing the Thinkpad's power button and restarting it. Is there anyone out there having (had) the same problem? Does anyone know how to remedy this problem? You would really help me a lot! Thanks, have a nice time,proforma2

Answer:X61s completely freezes when adjusting the volume level (!?)

YES!  I can't adjust volume and mine's set at 25.  It happened after an update was downloaded from Lenovo.
