I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently acquired an Archgon MD3107S USB 3.0 external Bluray optical drive in hopes I'd be able to watch Bluray disks on my laptop. The product is plug and play and the user manual has nothing in the way of trouble shooting tips other than "make sure all connections are secure".Reiews on the product didn't state any difficulties with installing and using the product with Windows 8 or 8.1, which is why I purchased it in the first place, but upon plugging it in, it isn't being detected in the Device Manager or in the Bios as far as I can tell. The device and hardware manager could only helpfully tell me that "a device may not have been detected".I have no idea what's going on, and I'd really like to be able to use this product soon, anybody run into a similar issue before with new devices being undetected and have a fix?

Answer:Ideapad Y410P with Windows 8.1 not detecting external Bluray Reader/Writer

Looking at the specs provided in the Newegg site there seems to be some discrepancy as to the applicable version of the OS. Anyway try testing the unit in another computer with the same usb version as your computer. If it works, then try plugging one of the usb cable connection to a usb wall power supply. Plug the other usb cable connection to your computer's usb port. Check if it is now recognized. Note: it might be necessary to reboot your computer before using the bluray drive.

i have a problem with my Lenovo IdeaPad s210 Touch. I had to restore to factory defaults possibly due corrupted installaction of anti-virus software under Windows 10. I had succesfully restored with Windows 8 and than followed multiple updates session to come back to Win 10. After one of the update - display is not working. System boots and Lenovo logo is shown but than display goes black. The HDD is working and the system starts properly (I've checked it on external HDMI monitor). Changing display settings (F8 or 9 button) does not help. How to solve it?

I've been providing IT support for customers for quite awhile now, and I've ran into this issue for a few years. Sometimes, when plugging up a USB device to a Windows XP machine, it takes awhile for it to detect it, if ever!

This is a hard drive that's in working condition and is experiencing no problems, and it actually works fine on a day-to-day basis on my 2 Windows 7 machines at home. However, I bring it over to a customer's house and plug it up to do a backup, and Windows XP does not detect the hard drive. You can hear the USB noise as if it notices the device, but nothing comes up in "My Computer".

Also, in Disk Management, I can see the drive, its size, etc, but it's not assigning the drive a drive letter. When I right click, all of the options are grayed out. I've rebooted the PC a few times, and once in safe mode, and I've turned the external hard drive off/on multiple times as well.

What's the deal with USB external hard drives and Windows XP?

I just updated to Windows 10. After this, it can't find my external monitor. It was working fine with windows 8, and I have made no changes other than the update..

I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro, and an Asus LCD monitor.

I have updated everything on windows update. I have updated everything through Lenovo Companion. The drivers for the graphic card didn't need an update, but I unistalled and reinstalled the drivers. But still, it cannot find my external monitor. I tried to unplug and replug the monitor, but still nothing.

I am running out of ideas. Anyone else who have experienced this, and might have an idea on what I can do?

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro - Cannot find external screen after windows 10 update

hi BeekerNolberto,

Welcome to the Forums.

Can you try these steps:
1. Open Device Manager and navigate to Display Adapters > Intel HD 4400 Graphics.
2. Right click on the Intel HD 4400 Graphics then choose Update driver software > Browse my computer for driver software > Let me pick from a list of device drivers
3. On the list of drivers, check if you have the previous Windows 8.1 driver (should be v10.18.10 .3496 or similar) then select it then reboot.
   - Sample image

After the reboot, check if you can now project or set a secondary display by pressing the Windows key? +P.

Let me know how it goes.

This is reallllllllly important, my Dad's going to flip when he gets back.We wen't halfs on an external hard drive which Windows in now not detecting, it comes up under device manager where it says everythings dandy however under volumes it has no data for the drive. When you load up Disk Management it says I must initialize a disk before Logical Disk Manager can access it. Disk 2 is already checked and MBR is selected so when I press Okay an error message pops up saying 'Incorrect Function' Same when I select GPT instead of MBR.Then when I try to right click Initialize disk is grayed out. It wasn't about half an hour ago though :/ Half an hour ago when I pressed Initialze disk it came up with 'incorrect function' again

Hi, I have a Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. I have 2 external hard drives. I can use the first one but the second one, I can't use it. It works in Windows XP, but not on this one.
When I insert it, the green light on the HD is on but I can hear no sound, the sound I usually hear when I insert the other HD. There is no activity on the computer, neither can I see the HD from the My computer.
I tried looking for solutions online but none of them helped. Attached are the screenshots which might help. I cannot delete the content nor can I move it to my computer as I have no space. Thank you for helping me.

Answer:External Hard drive not detecting in Windows 7

Hi allen2013,

Welcome onboard.

Forget about the first one which can be seen and worked with on both XP and Windows 7. Please pull that out and keep it far away beyond your reach.

Now tell us the manufacturer/make/ model/ capacity of the problem drive - the second drive.

Tell us whether it worked on Windows 7 before.

Safely remove all other USB drives/Card Readers on your Windows 7 PC - I presume it is a desktop. Just plugin your problem drive only and post a fresh screenshot of how it looks in Windows Management.

So after my prehistoric motherboard finally died, I bit the bullet and did a complete system overhaul, upgrading to my current listed specs in my profile along with a new Windows 7 Home Ultimate x64 install.

However, it has provided me with an unexpected issue. Windows no longer detects my Toshiba USB 3.0 external Hard drive. I know that the computer itself can detect it because my Asus Sabertooth Z77 motherboard's BIOS window lists it among the connected drives. However, despite the LED light on the drive itself coming on when I initially connect it, the light eventually goes off. It is not listed in the My Computer drive listing, nor is it detected within the Disk Management or Device Manager lists of devices or drives inside Windows and it worked perfectly on my old Windows OEM x32 OS with my old build.

Can anyone help? All of my precious work is located on there, including my major college assignments due next week and while I did do backups every several days, one of the assignments was hammered out in less than that in several all night sessions. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

HiI updated Windows 10, and now my external screen only displays 1280x720 pixels instead of 1920x1200. I cannot add this as a custom resolution in the intel driver, because there is "not enough bandwidth". This is the case if I connect it with the HDMI output on the laptop as well as the HDMI output on the OneLink Dock.I installed all the newest graphics drivers, didn't help. Any other solutions?

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga 14 external screen problem: only 1280x720 after windows 10 update

Hi

Can you give more details of you issue?

You have the TP Yoga 14, connected to a Onelink Dock (is the ThinkPad OneLink or the OneLink+ dock ? ) and connected to a monitor (Can you share the monitor model?).
- Where do you get the "not enough bandwidth" error ? When you try to change the resolution of the display on Windows?
- Which Windows update did you applied? Can you run "winver" and see the version?

Just in case, can you check some other cables, adapter, and maybe some other monitor (or TV) arround to see if it produces different results?. I had noticed on the display forums that different HDMI cables and adapters produced different results sometimes.

hi out there, just bought a IdeaPad S10-3 with Windows 7 Starter. Connected it to an external monitor/screen (IBM T750). It works! But after a reboot, the IdeaPad sees the T750, but the LCD/TFT is black. Changing the screen-resolution of the external makes the externel initialise.Changed cables (VGA to VGA, VGA to DVI). Always the same problem. Screen goes active, but keeps black.External monitor works on other NetBook. If I connect the IdeaPad to a Samsung Syncmaster 170T (VGA to VGA) in my office -> it works! But I has to work at home on the T750.I'm also using the newest grafic driver. So, anyone an idea? Solution?!? Greets from SwitzerlandTinu

Answer:Displayport to DVI-D X201 Tablet/Windows 8 64 bit - not detecting external monitor

Hi, smortensen

To make sure I fully understand the issue: You have upgraded to Windows 8, and you have your machine connected to an Ultrabase, correct? Are you trying to extend/duplicate your display from the laptop to another monitor? If you are trying to connect the laptop to an external display, have you attempted to do this when the computer is not in the Ultrabase?

Best,
Adam

Just wasted a ton of time on this. Installed creators and immediately saw two problems.  Solved one.  Could do not solve other:1. Screen Dimmer broke: The dimmer control would no longer dim.  I could get full bright or min dim no matter where the control was placed.  After many hours of trying different drivers, firmware, etc, finally had to revert to prior verion. 2. Initially, external monitors failed.  Eventually solved that by reinstalling drivers.  But given the first problem, it no longer mattered. You may wish to avoid this update as I've found a fair number of display related issues with this release. Charlie

hi fouru1999 ,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

If the computer has a Winodws 7 OS
You can try.  Using your external monitor to see the settings.
Turn on the Computer and start hitting F8
Once you have the options, select enable low resolution

If you don't have a Windows 7 OS you can try booting into BIOS by hitting F2 when you turn on the computer.

These steps can check if the problem is with the LCD or LCD connection.

If the Issue stays the same.

You can try checking the LCD connection.

I encountered an issue that the windows update is detecting old updates (2014, 2016). It could not get the latest one (January) though the servers are being patched monthly (last patch is Dec 2017).

Before I encounter the issue, I performed a C drive clean-up and deleted large files under C:\windows\installer\$PatchCache$\Managed. Though last month, I also performed this but did not encounter any issue. The difference is, I did not remove all the large
files (100 MB) and on this month, I removed the remaining files.
I also removed old virus definitions on the server.
Can you please help me with this issue? How can the servers detect the latest windows update?
Your response is highly appreciated! Thanks!

Hi,
I am having trouble with my windows installation after attempting to install windows 10 a second time on the same machine, but different partition.
I have used a bootable USB device with the windows 10 installation (created with the same machine and the same settings for OS).
After pressing F12 and selecting the USB as the boot device, i started the installation process and got to the stage where you select which drive / partition to install windows. But the list only contained the USB device i used to start the installation process, and the SSD did not appear when tried to refresh / reload drives (or unchecked the "hide incompatible drives" checkbox).
After canceling the installation process, i was met with the following message when rebooting windows:
"Your PC/Device needs to be repaired.
The Boot Configuration Data file is missing some required information.
File: \BCD
Error code: 0x0000034
You'll need to use recovery tools. If you dont have..."

Before the error occured:
I have tried many different things BEFORE i got to the step above where I was able to start the USB stick and consequently ended up with the error.
However when the error occured the BIOS was reset to factory settings and i was able to log in to windows (and listen to spotify for an hour or so) before i tried the install that gave the error:

I tried installing windows 10 with a stick created from another computer. That time I got to the installation process. But when... Read more

I had a similar problem with One Key Recovery where it could not find my USB drive (I ultimately had to expand my D: partition and copy my backup there, and then start OKR).   But after reading your post, it occurred to me... do you have it plugged into the USB ports on the right side, or the one on the left?  I reason I ask is because I noticed "Renesas Electronics" in my Program Files and remembered that those are the USB 3.0 drivers.   So maybe in the BIOS, it doesn't recognize the USB 3.0 ports because the drivers aren't loaded?  Maybe try plugging it into the USB port on the left side (the one that's not blue) and see if that works.   Heck, it's a long shot...

Hello all,

I just purchased a Lenovo Ideapad 100. I have a Vizio flat screen TV and an HDMI cable that I used to have no problem connecting to the TV with my old laptop. For some reason when I plug the cord intto the Lenovo laptop, it gives me no signal on the TV? I tried to go to the control panel in the computer to fix the settings, but every time I click detect, nothing happens. Does anyone have similar issues or know how to fix this? I just want to watch DVD's on my TV because I don't have cable. And I know it's the laptop and not the cord or tv because my roommate hooked up his camcorder and tried it played right on my tv, so there must be a setting that's off on my laptop not letting me make the connection.

Answer:IdeaPad S500 Touch - Screen goes black after driver update

hi Scoutmaster316,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

You will need to boot the system into safe mode.
the only option to boot there based on your situation is to crash boot the system

When you turn on the system, Lenovo Logo Appears then Black screen wait maybe a minute the hold the power button down to crash it you may need to reapeat this 4 to 5 times until it boots to a page like this

Once you got that proceed with these selection
Troubleshoot / Advanced Option / Startup Settings

Then you should rerach options with Safemode Select that.
If the driver is the problem you should be able to boot here,

Open device Manager and rollback the Video Driver

I have a laptop ideapad 500s-13 for a month, with windows 10 pre installed. the CPU is core i3-6100, Intel Graphics 520, Samsung SSD 128Gb, 4 GB ram. After some sumulative update of Win 10 1607 anniversary update, my laptop couldn't boot, it remains in black screen mode with circle of dots rotating but it can't enter in the system, even if i disconnected all the connection and USB cable. I've tried to boot in Safe mode, it works!! but not in normal mode!!So, what I did was to enter in Safe mode and disable the Intel Graphics 520 Driver from device manager (i don't remember the exact name). I restarted the PC, surprisingly it could enter in the system without any problem, but i couldn't change the brighness of the screen and some other feature related to screen. The problem cames up the exact moment when i tried to enable the graphic driver from pc device manager ,the screen turned black with only cursor. So I think the main problem is the incompatibility of the win10 and the intel graphics driver. My current version of intel HD graphic 520 driver is 21.20.16.4550, driver date 11/11/2016. Please, do you have any solutions??? ps. sorry for any mistake in the text, english is not my native language.  thank you in advance

So i have recently purchased a lenovo y510p laptop with these specs: i7-4700MQ, GT 750M SLI, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSHD. The laptop shipped with DOS, so i immediatelly installed my copy of windows 8.1 via an USB-DVD drive. I was aware of the problem concerning the ultrabay card, in which case i would have to update the BIOS, so win8.1 may  detect my second  GPU, but i had no such problems, my system was able to detect the second card with ease, and it said i have 2x GT 750M GPUs.However, after installing the latest driver from nvidia(for the 750M), it seems i have 2x GT 755M cards. Weird. So i decided to reinstall windows, and after it was complete, it said i have 2x GT 755M again. After that, i removed the ultrabay card, so i could inspect it, and it says:  Model name: GT750M5 Now i am completely confused. It seems i have 2x 750M, but why does my laptop think i have 2x 755M? Should i do anything about this? I know the two cards are basically identical, but my laptop runs quite hot while gaming(easily reaching 90+ temps on the ultrabay GPU, 80+ temps on the other one, on rare occasions the ultrabay card even reaches 97, and then throttles), so could this cause the heating issue? This is a brand new laptop, i'm using it on a table, i even performed dust removal, and installed all drivers properly, i don't think it should run that hot. So, could any sort of expert help me out here? Thanks. (apart from this issue, i'm quite statisfied wi... Read more

Answer:IdeaPad y510p with Win8.1 detecting GT755M instead of GT750M

hi therealkrispet,

Welcome to the Forums.

Using GPU-Z, does your system still says you have GT755m in SLI? If it is, you most likely have the newest GPU for the Y510p as stated in this tech specs. Additionally, the GT755m is slightly faster than the GT750m, which is a plus according to this comparison.

Regarding the heat, getting 80°C+ while gaming is normal especially if you're running a game on Ultra settings. Getting 97°C though is really high and you may want to consider using a cooling pad or a dedicated fan to cool down the laptop. If this doesn't rectify the heat issue, the external GPU might be faulty.

I did a windows 7 upgrade on my U110 and now the external DVD drive will not function. The computer recognizes that a DVD driver is plugged in (in an explorer folder) but Windows 7 doesn't register the DVD when I plug it in and the computer cannot read the DVDs. It seems to be trying as there is noise emanating from the DVD drive and the light is blinking but no end result. I've search high and low for a solution but non seem to exist. Lenovo support has no driver replacement. Their rep suggested reinstalling the Intel chipset for Vista which I've done and that didn't fix anything. Is there a solution out there? Has anyone else encountered this problem? Oh and my internal microphone doesn't work either. I assume a related issue. Many thanks for any help.Alec

Answer:Ideapad U110 - External DVD Player not working with Windows 7

Here's one out of nowhere:  do you have CD/DVD software that includes Sonic DLA or something like it?  I've seen that take over drives and prevent normal operation. If you right click on the drive and hit properties, are there any suspicious looking tabs? Total WAG, and about 1% likely, but there you go. Z.

Hi all,
I have an External Hard Drive hooked up via USB. I'm running Windows XP. I recently reformatted my computer and started as "freshly" as possible.
When I turn the HD on, Windows will make a sound to indicate that it acknowledges the drive... the same thing happens when I turn the drive off. When I initially turned on the drive, Windows installed it with no problems and I could use it fine... it was assigned to "F" in "My Computer". I then began installing all the programs I had prior to reformatting, installing Windows updates, etc. I did so much "up to date" work that I honestly don't recall when my problem occurred. However, I do notice the problem now and I'm surprised I have any hair left.
Windows no longer shows the drive in "My Computer". Though, when I turn the drive on/off, Windows still does the "I noticed it" thing. I've read so much on the topic and have tried so much that I don't know what to do anymore.
I tried restoring to a previous save point and no luck. I tried repairing Windows via the XP CD and no luck. The drive didn't come with any drivers, but I don't think that matters, because, as I said above, it already had installed fine and I used to be able to access it. I tried each USB port and no luck. I tried safe mode, no luck. I used disk management to see if the drive was listed and it ISN'T. I used a utility called "Bel... Read more

If it's a 3.5" hdd, I'd try removing it from the external case and testing it in IDE bus. With a 2.5" hdd you'd need an adapter. Of course that would void any warranty left...

Hi

I'm new to the boards so hullo to everyone.

Basically when I tried to install the Emsisoft Anti-Malware program I found out SP1 for Windows 7 hadn't installed (program would not install without this; obviously double-checked via control panel etc, and it indicated just Windows 7 was installed).

I have also checked for updates via Windows Update a couple of times after this to be sure, but wasn't detecting that SP1 wasn't installed.

Has anyone experienced this / know the most appropriate solution?

I understand you can manually download SP1, but after looking at the particular page on the Microsoft page, I'm not sure which of the options to select. I have Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.

Many thanks in advance for any advice / suggestions...

Hello everyone, i have a problem with my new external HD, i recently purchased a 1 TB Cavalry external hard drive, it came preformatted but for laughs i formatted it again just to be safe. I plugged it into my laptop and it worked perfect right away (via USB).. transferred about 100gb to it, still no problems. I plug it into my home computer (eSATA) and it didnt work right away, went into the bios and updated the hard drives so it would come up, booted up fine. I added the rest of the files i needed and everything seemed to be fine.

Well i restarted the computer, went to play some music off the drive and it wasnt showing up anymore, i restarted, populated the hard drives, it didnt come up. I tried USB and it wouldnt come up either. I realized i didnt have the usbstor.inf so i downloaded it from my laptop, the drive installed. Still not showing up. It shows up in device manager, but when i try to format it or change drive letter or anything at all it tells me that i need to refresh the disk manager/restart the computer (which doesnt help)

Can anyone give me some tips or any ideas on what i havent tried? thanks!

By the way, both my laptop and desktop are running vista 32 bit

Hello. I have a Seagate GoFlex 1TB External Hard Disk. I had been using it for quite sometime without any problems. Now it doesn't get detected in "My Computer" window. I checked in Computer Management and the drive is detected in "Device Manager". However, in "Disk Management", it shows as Unallocated. I am extremely perplexed as this drive had a lot important softwares and books and I don't want to format it to make the hard disk re-detectable. Is there any way to restore it to its previous state without formatting?

Any help will be appreciated.

Answer:External Hard Disk Not Detecting

First thing that comes to mind is to shut down the computer then unplug the power for about ten second then plug back in and restart. If that doesn't work and you have another computer or laptop that you can use then test it on those.

A last resort would be to take the HDD out of its holder and plug it directly into the computer using any extra internal plugins. If you do not have any extra ones then unplug the DVD/CD drive and use those. This will give you an idea if there is any thing wrong with the HDD. . .Good luck.

Answer:Thinkpad S430 - not detecting USB 3.0 external HDD

Hello,

I am not familiar witheither  the ThinkPad S430 or the Iomega external USB 3.0 hard disk drive, but I wonder if the latter might not be receiving enough power over the USB cable.  Does the Iomega drive have an option to take power from an external AC adapter or second USB port?  If so, try providiing additional power and see if that allows the drive to be recognized when attached to the ThinkPad S430.

Answer:Problem detecting external hardware

Give this a try.

Create a file with NOTEPAD containing the following lines and save it as FIX.REG
-------------------------- cut after this line --------------------------------
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment]

"DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES"="1"
-------------------------- cut before this line --------------------------------

Double click on FIX.REG and say yes to the Merge Into Registry question.

Unplug ALL USB devices.
Open Device Manager.
View, Show Hidden Devices.
Uninstall all devices under USB Controllers.
Uninstall all devices under Disk Drives that you know are not present.
Uninstall all devices under Storage Volumes. Say no to any reboot prompts until you are finished. Also, if a Storage Volume doesn't uninstall, ignore it and move to the next one.
If you have a yellow ? with unknown devices, uninstall all of the entries there as well.

When this is done, reboot TWICE.

Reconnect the USB devices and see if they're recognized properly.

Going to do some backups today, I plugged in and powered on the 1TB external.

However XP Pro fails to detect the final partition as it has done before while opening the others.

When trying to open the partition it gives the error:
"The disk drive is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?"

This has been used a couple other times with data on it just like the others.

Going to Computer Mgmt.: it shows the partition as healthy (though not labeled "New" as are the rest) with '0' bytes used and '0' bytes free.

Why could this be, I did the detect new hardware trick, nothing. It appears to have lost all data.

The problem partition is the final partition.

I have a gateway C-140 convertible notebook. OS Vista ultimate. I am having trouble connecting an external display such as another monitor or a projector to the VGA port. I was able to connect a monitor to the docking station and when I connected the notebook to the docking station the external monitor displayed the desktop. I did not use that function much but recently I tried to connect a projector and that's where my trouble began.
Not only was the projector not detected but when I tested the system using the external monitor, it was not detected as well. I can not figure out this problem. Here's what I have tried so far:
Turned off computer, plugged in external monitor and turned on computer - thinking it would auto detect the new hardware. No luck. I tried this in both the docking station and the notebook's VGA port.
I uninstalled the video adapter, rebooted to have the generic VGA display adapter loaded, then re-installed the correct drivers which I downloaded from the intel website for Intel Chipset 965 series Mobile. No luck after reinstalling the video adapter drivers.
What else. . . When I go to the Display Properies I do see the icons for 2 screens with a big number 1 and a big number 2 in each screen. When I click on #2 it does not let me change the screen resolution. It stays on 800x600. But when I click to identify screens with the external monitor plugged in I do not get any picture.

I have recently acquired a 160GB Western Digital external HDD, unfortunately every time i try to plug it in to ANY of the 6 usb ports in my laptop, i get the same error message: "The specified I/O operation on \Device\Harddisk1\DR2 was not completed before the time-out period expired". The DR message changes every time i try another USB port, obviously. At first I thought it might be a problem with the OS, so I reinstalled Windows XP SP2, ran a thorough virus scan, but still it did nothing to fix my problem. Now the even bigger problem is that all my USB ports work properly with other devices and the external HDD works when i connect it to my desktop computer.

The laptop is a DELL Inspiron 9300, Intl Pentium M 1.8 Ghz, 1.0 gb Ram.

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? Thanks.

Bad sectors are physical defects and modern hard drives are designed to automatically fix them via a process called sector remapping. Basically what it does is to mark the original failing sector as bad in an internal table called "G-List" (growing defect list ) and allocate a spare good sector from the hidden sector reserve pool as a replacement to the failing one. This process is transparent to both user and OS.

The only way a bad sector will show up on your disk is if the pool has been completely used. In other words, your remapping pool is so full that it cannot take another bad sector and now the drive is throwing errors that it can’t read from a sector. This is a clear indication that the drive is in a very critical state, has been for quite awhile and is deteriorating at an alarming rate.

There is no point in trying to "fix" this disk. Even if you managed to create a partition, the disk will completely fail very soon.

This is part of an ongoing problem for me.

After having no success doing it manually, I have decided to purchase this program
Paragon Migrate to help me move everything onto my shiny new SSD...

Now my problem is that my Win7 Laptop will not recognise the SSD (I have it plugged into an external enclosure). Very strange as I can access it perfectly fine from my old Win XP machine upstairs..

Question being - Is there a reason that windows 7 won't recognise this drive? and what can I do to solve the problem?

It's a pain in the ass because I thought that buying that software would be the end to my ongoing upgrade issues.

Thanks in advance.

I have a monitor that I want to get connected to my HP 210 mini notebook. What will I do in order that my computer be able to detect the external monitor connected to it. I already installed the driver of the monitor.

Answer:Not Detecting the External Monitor Connected with a netbook

Connecting a monitor to a laptop should be simple. Most laptops automatically pick it up and ask if you want to start using it and how (Duplicate, Extend, Screen 1 OR Screen 2).

There are a few different ways to switch to it, on laptops there's usually a " FN" Key (If no "FN" Key, substitute with CTRL sometimes), and across the F1-F12 keys (sometimes the 1-9 keys..) there as symbols. You want to press the one that looks like a monitor and it should bring up an On Screen Display that shows you choices, and while holding the FN(Or CTRL) key and pressing it again it should change it to the other options as previously mentioned.

The other option depends on what operating system you have on the laptop. Win7, 8, Vista, XP? (I assume 7 or 8)

Anyways let me know if that helped narrow it down, otherwise we'll try the last step which is in basic terms: Control Panel > Display Settings.

I am a newbie on using external / SATA harddrive. My new external drive worked perfectly at the beginning for weeks,
All of a sudden, I plugged the USB cord in again and the computer made that same "ding dong" sound to indicate some device has been plugged in but this time it is not showing the new drive letter.
I tried plugging it in my other computer that also runs Windows XP and the external harddrive also failed to show up as a drive letter under My Computer.

I right-clicked My Computer and selected Manage/Disk Management. The drive letter does not show up there neither.

The green light on the external hard drive is on. What is wrong with my hard drive?
There is a DC Power plug in outlet on the side. I'm not sure if I need to buy an AC Adaptor to plug it in to make it work since it didn't need an adaptor to work at the beginning.

Please help.
Thank you.

This is reallllllllly important, my Dad's going to flip when he gets back.

We wen't halfs on an external hard drive which Windows in now not detecting, it comes up under device manager where it says everythings dandy however under volumes it has no data for the drive.

When you load up Disk Management it says I must initialize a disk before Logical Disk Manager can access it. Disk 2 is already checked and MBR is selected so when I press Okay an error message pops up saying 'Incorrect Function' Same when I select GPT instead of MBR.
Then when I try to right click Initialize disk is grayed out. It wasn't about half an hour ago though :/ Half an hour ago when I pressed Initialze disk it came up with 'incorrect function' again

Can you connect the drive to another system to find out if it is your computer or the drive that has problems?

I have recently purchased a Samsung SP2514N external hard drive. I have windows xp. I have installed it using the windows installation wizard. When i click on My computer it does not show up but when i click on safely remove hardware i am given an option to eject ‘USB disk – Samsung SP2514N'. And when i right click My computer/ Device manager/ Disk drives it shows Samsung SP2514N. I have tried updating the driver but nothing has changed. Can anyone explain to me how can I save my data to the external hard drive?

Answer:Problem detecting external hard drive

I would try to see if the disk is formatted in disk management. To get to disk manager, right click my computer, go down and select manage. Once in the Computer Management utility, go to Disk Management, your External should show up there as an unallocated disk. On the Bottem part of the split screen right click the area with the diagnol lines. If your disk is not initialized go ahead and do that, make it a primary partition, select the drive letter and such, and select quick NTFS Format. If you have any CD rom drives it will skip letters for those drives, then give you the next letter.

Good evening, everyone. Forgive me if this isn't the right subforum, but this one had more results pertaining N-series IdeaPads than the other one I considered posting in. I own a rebranded UC-Logic drawing tablet that used to work wonderfully with my old Windows 7 laptop. Now I have a brand new laptop, a Lenovo Ideapad N580, that came right from Best Buy with Windows 8 installed. Even with the Windows 8 driver from the tablet manufacturer's website, I encounter a problem: the built-in keyboard becomes totally unresponsive. No normal typing, no Ctrl-Z, no Windows key functions, no nothing. When the driver's uninstalled, my keyboard resumes working as normal. I noticed this happening right after the recent Win8 update, but I am not sure if that's related or not to the problem I'm having. The tablet itself works as it should, pressure sensitivity and all in Photoshop CS6 and etc., but the keyboard doesn't work when the tablet driver's installed. I'm at a loss as to what to do, and wonder if anyone here has any ideas.

Answer:IdeaPad N580 - Windows 8 - Keyboard stops working when external drawing tablet driver is installed

Hi morgb,

Thanks for posting and welcome to the Lenovo Community,

I?d like to help you with the issue that you?re facing,

But maybe the problem that the machine needs a driver installed for this tablet to be able to recognize it,

If you can contact the manufacture of the tablet to ask for a driver for windows 8.

Thanks and Regards,

Soha

Hi everyone, My windows 7 on an ideapad y560 won't update.I've tried everything I have been able to find on the web but haven't been successful.Currently the most important update is the Service pack 1. I'm thinking of doing a rescue and recovery to going back to the factory settings. Is this a good idea? If for any reason my computer has been infected with this also solve virus issues? Thank you for your help

Since Windows 10 did its update, my Lenovo ideapad 300 won't wake after going to sleep. The screen flickers and looks almost like a test pattern. I have to do a hard reboot with the power button a couple of times before it will start up. Anyone else experiencing this?

I have a lenovo b570e laptop and am running Windows 8.1.

I recently bought a new monitor (ASUS ve248h) to use as a dual monitor along side my own laptop however upon connecting the HDMI cable with the monitor it doesn't appear to work. I have tried updating the drivers and the hdmi port does work while I am connecting to my LG tv using the hdmi port. I have used various cables including the one that connects it to the tv however so far without success.

I am a bit clueless as to why it would work with the tv and not the monitor also my brothers laptop (which has Ubuntu) does successfully connect to the monitor.

Any help would be much appreciated and Thanks in Advanced

Hi.
My external (seagate) hard drive can be detected, but it won't show on My Computer. I tried few options however the device is still not being recognised.

It appears in my device manager. I have uninstalled it, plug my hard drive back. It gets detected, but it still won't appear in My Computer.

It also appears in disk management. It's shows as Disk 1 Unknown, Not Initialised and the right column is blank.

I downloaded the MiniTool Partition Wizard and attempted to recover my data. I completed all the steps expect the last step as I can't right click to give the drive a letter.

I have important unbacked information on this device. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

Answer:External Hard Drive Not Detecting. Disk 1 Unknown.

Hello Liyah,

Your screenshots are two small to be able to read.

For now in Disk Management, see if you area able to right click on the smaller Disk 1 box in the lower pane, and click on an Online or Initialize option in the context menu. Afterwards, make sure the disk has a drive letter.

Disk - Set as Offline or Online

Hope this helps for now,
Shawn

My Yoga 11e will suddenly not connect to any monitors (including the one it's been connected to for a year). The display settings consistently show "Didn't detect another display".YES I HAVE ALREADY GONE THOUGH ALL THE SIMILAR POSTS ON THE FORUM. * Yes, I have already tested the monitors and cables to verify they work.* Yes, I have already tested it with different monitors.* Yes, I have updated all my drivers.* Yes, I have used the Lenovo update software.* Yes, I have already removed the graphics driver and reinstalled it.* Yes, I have already done Windows troubleshooting - including reinstalling Windows. Based on the Lenovo website, there seems to be no way to actually speak to any sort of tech support, so I'm stuck resorting to this. Is there anything else I can try BESIDES THE ABOVE that might work, or should I just chuck this computer in the garbage?

I'm unable to get my X1 Yoga to detect external monitors when plugged into the OneLink+ dock. This started occuring when my computer upgraded to the creators update. I thought I found a thread of others with the same issue (linked below), but it turns out I was waiting for a fix that didn't apply to me. I'm super frustrated right now. Stuff I've tried so far.1. Updated all drivers using Lenovo Service Bridge (even optional drivers)2. Installed the Fall Creators update preview (after being told it would fix the issue)3. Completely reinstalled Windows4. A Single VGA monitor5. A Single Display Port Monitor6. 6 different cables At this point I'm convinced there's an issue with the dock. There's a firmware update available for it, but you can't install it unless it is actively connected to a monitor (go figure).  When attempting to install, I get the code 255 "Can't connect to Synaptics VMMxxxx DP hub IC" If anyone has any sugestions, I'd greatly appreciate it. It used to work perfectly, then about the time I installed the creators update it started getting flaky, now I can't get it to work at all. Previous thread I was following. Note that I'm linking to a post where they show the dock working (annoying).https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/Windows-10-creator-update-breaks-Lenovo-...

Hi, When I try to install Windows updates, I get the following error: "Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer" And It Keeps for about 15 minutes.I tried to Disable all the Services From Msconifg.exe but it didnt work for me.  Please Help.  Lenovo Ideapad Y500

Answer:Ideapad Y500 Windows Update-failure configuring windows updates

hi HussinBhy,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

With Windows 8 there was a certain service that has to be disabled "Nalperion Service" then proceed with the updates manually by 4 or by 5 updates only

If Windows 7, You just have to make sure your Antivirus is not blocking anything by disabling them temporarily
and most of all Try installing it by 4 or by 5 updates only,  as it may be overlapping some updates if you will install everything at same time.

Best Regards
Solid Cruver

I have had a Lenovo Ideapad 100s about three weeks. I may have solved the space bar problem some of these have by bending the pin-like bar under it so contact is better, but it now has a more serious problem. The failed update to Windows 10 version 1511 has bricked the machine, presumably something to do with how it did not have space to perform the update. Seemingly it never could have enough space, even if complete wiped of personal data. The BIOS to the laptop, or at least mine, seems almost completely disabled. I've read of people installing a Linux distribution with some degree of success which would entail being able to boot from a USB device. I have been unable to boot from a USB drive. I am about to try booting from a USB DVD drive but I suspect this too will be blocked. It seems very strange that these laptops have a BIOS in different states of useability. The useful options in the BIOS seem blocked - the arrow keys cannot switch to them. Is it possible to flash the BIOS to get an unblocked one? Lenovo seem to have prevented computer literate people from putting right things which presumably their service centres will end up having to do in the very near future. IS there some arcane procedure I can use to fully enable this BIOS? Or at the very least get back the ability to boot from a USB DVD drive? Reinstalling Windows from a DVD would be simple enough then. (Is there any reason it has 32 bit Windows? Can a 64 bit iso be used and still activated if re... Read more

Answer:ideapad u 330p windows update hanging

hi istvanpszabo,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Under the list of important updates, can you try to unckeck all of them and try to install only one update and observe if the updatae gets downloaded.

Also, if you have an antivirus / firewall softwares installed, try to temporarily disable it and observe.

Let me know how it goes.

I bought this laptop refurbished back in June 2016. Since then, only a handful of updates were succesfully installed and after that every updates released by Windows always failed to install. There are currently 2 updates that is being shown on windows update :Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3205386)Feature update to Windows 10, version 1607These 2 updates have been repeatedly downloaded and try to install on every reboot with no success. What I have tried thus far is Running Windows Update Troubleshooter, which found and fixed several issues but doesn't fix the update failing to install.Any suggestion would be appreciated. It is pretty tiring getting your the notebook to reboot and try to install an update for 20 minutes and never got through. It goes up to 100%, and then starts showing "update couldn't be completed, undoing changes".

I do not understand / why Lenovo made such small IdeaPads / they can not even perform needed Microsoft updates. I have now spend hours with restart / update attempt. Nothing seems to happen. Wish I could either bill my hours or return this "poor" piece of engineering work. Which the retail apparently do not know anything about (: The shop told me "what had you expected" -I clearly expect a piece of HW which supports the OS deployed

I have an Ideapad Y580 with bios 2.03 on Windows 8.1. I have the latest 5DCN40WW (2.07) file reading to flash, but want to know if anyone has successfully flashed from 2.03 to 2.07 while running Windows 8.1. Anyone?

Answer:update Ideapad Y580 bios 2.03 to 2.07 on Windows 8.1

I need to add this: I have a i7-3610QM cpu. Anyone upgrade from older an bios 2xx to 2.07 within Windows 8.1? I bought this laptop used on Ebay and it came with this old bios 2.03 and Windows 8.0. I upgraded tp Windows 8.1, but noticed the cpu stayed at around 3 ghz with the fan running fast with no load on the computer. Perhaps upgrading to bios 2.07 will fix this problem and make it work properly with Lenovo Energy Management software ver 8.0. I have a 2nd Lenovo Y580 with an i7-3610QM cpu that I bought previous to this. This came with Windows 7 and bios 2.07 from the factory. I upgraded to windows 8.0, then Windows 8.1 with no problems. The cpu ramps up and down in speed properly with Lenovo Dynamic Graphics set in the power plan.
