Question: Re: Portege Z30-A - Bios update 3.80-WIN using Win 7 64bit

I have a Toshiba Portege Z30-A
Maybe someone was able to perform the upgrade bios in windows 7 64 bit?

Preferred Solution: Re: Portege Z30-A - Bios update 3.80-WIN using Win 7 64bit

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Re: Portege Z30-A - Bios update 3.80-WIN using Win 7 64bit

I upgraded to 3.70 EC 1.4 as soon as I got hands on my Z30t-A and when I noticed the 3.80 was available I downloaded the zip file. None of the 15 files has started the upgrade process.

I run Windows 8.1, but the BIOS upgrade should function the same as for WIN 7.
Toshiba must have forgotten to add a setup.exe or something.

I haven't seen a release note, but I'm a big fan of fresh software.

I recently bought a Portege R700 19M and I have downloaded the latest version of the BIOS available in the Toshiba support page and when I run the .exe file, it doesn't work with this message: "The computer is not supported"
And, when I have a look in the HWSetup Toshiba tool, it doesn't display the BIOS version but some weird character (not usual letters) so I can't know which version is installed.
thank you for your help

Answer:Portege R700 - Can't update the BIOS

Hi buddy,

Do you update the BIOS on preinstalled Windows version from Toshiba?
Are you logged in as Administrator when you try the update?

To be honest I doubt it?s a problem of released BIOS update because I found other threads where users report that BIOS update was successful.

what is the BIOS EC?

in my BIOS it states BIOS version of 2.10 and EC version 1.40

on toshiba website latest revision is BIOS v2.10 and EC 1.50 as same flash update download. but as the BIOS is already upto date i want to know if trying to flash for the EC from 1.40 to 1.50 would be worth it?

n.b. presume the latest R700 BIOS is v2.10 as stated on the website? is there anywhere else i can check?

Answer:Portege R700 - BIOS EC update from 1.40 to 1.50

I believe the EC is an important function so I would update the EC to ensure the notebook is running optimally.

I don't know what was changed but you can usually find this information on the Toshiba America website in the support/downloads section/

I have a Portege 3440CT with bios version 1.50.

This version does not support large HDD so I thought I'd update the BIOS. (don't know if version 1.60 does either, does anyone know?)

When I try to run the bios-update-program on win2000, it says "Initial error", anyone know what's causing this?

BIOS is downloaded from Toshibas website.

I have no floppy or CD-rom available.
Have tried the updater on win98, and also in DOS and it says "this utility not available on v86 mode!"

Is there any way to place the BIOS file on a small hard drive, and boot from that?

Ideas, anyone?

Answer:Bios update on Portege 3440CT.

Sorry CyB but I really do not understand you. If you check Toshiba support page you will find two BIOS updates. Both of them must be done using FDD. So now I am asking myself why you try to do it under running operating system. Sorry but it is really ridiculous.

Toshiba provide two different BIOS updates. One is TRAD (must be done with FDD) and WIN (can be done under running WXP or now Vista). For old notebook models there is no WIN version.

Is there any way to place the BIOS file on a small hard drive, and boot from that?

As far as I know something like this is not possible and you can check eBay and obtain FDD. You can get it for few bucks. It is really not expensive.

i have a portege m200 and because it doesn't have any device on it (fdd, dvd) i want to be able to boot from an sd-card. For that I need the newest bios version v1.70win, but to intall it ,it requires the Common Module. I have instaled it (there was no error, at least) but when I retry to do the update , a"missing common module" message appears. So I'm a little bit confused. I suppose that the best think to do is to erase any previous version of common module, and reintall it, but I have no ideea how should I do it.
can anyone give me clue, or maybe i'm on the wrong path!?

Answer:Portege M200 BIOS update

Hello Daniel

As far as I know it?s not necessary to install a Common Modules if you want to update the BIOS. Nevertheless normally you can find the Common Modules in ?Add and remove programs?. If you need a whole instruction ?how to make a BIOS update? you can find it on the Toshiba website.

Please go to ?Support & Downloads? then ?Knowledge Base?. There you can search for ?BIOS update?.

Has anyone tried this new update ?
I was put off by the wording on the disclaimer.
It seems that in order to cut down on constant fan use the price to pay will be a hotter computer.
Is that going to affect the computer life time ?
Also, as it is a "stand alone" update, is it possible to undo the changes and revert to a previous version if necessary ?
Finally, is the increased heat on the base of the unit going to make it uncomfortable to work with as a tablet ?
Thanks for feed back.

Answer:Portege M400. BIOS update V 1.8

Yes I have updated my m400 to version 1.8 and No it does not run that hot im currently suing speed fan to monitor the temp and its stable at 38 degrees - with BIOS set to cooling - battery optimised, its very quite now! thats what i wanted as the fan for me was just to loud for such a small laptop. I went from 1.4 straight to 1.8 didnt do 1.7.
I still find however the power saver dosent do much in terms of the fan speed, but at least we know there was an issue and they have identified it in the BIOS release.

i recently purchased two used portege 3490 CT Notebooks, both with BIOS version 1.60. I tried to upgrade to Version 1.90 with a USB-Floppy, but it wont accept the floppies. Theres no floppy access when i press a key after the bios update message.

Also booting from this USB floppy wont work. Is this a problem related to this specific USB floppy drive (it's a NEC)? Are there any other procedures to update the BIOS?

Answer:BIOS Update on a Portege 3490

Hello Thomas

I am not sure but I assume that your unit has no USB legacy support and, as far as I know, you can do it using original Toshiba FDD. Check please your BIOS settings.

I am pretty sure that you will not be able to make BIOS update using your FDD.

Is the Windows 7 Home Premium with Service Pack 1 not supported?

What's the matter?
Which BIOS is the right one for my system?

Answer:BIOS Update not possible for Portege M700

It seems that Vista OS was preinstalled on this notebook.
This means that you have installed the Win 7 system at your own hand.

The point is that BIOS update requires some essential Toshiba tools.
For example the Value Added Package is important software and should be preinstalled on the notebook.

Is VAP installed?
If not install the VAP before trying to update the BIOS.

Hi there,
When I look for an update to the BIOS in my M400 at the Nordics version of Toshibas homepage - here is what I find;
On the nordics toshiba website they have the 1.50 version available for download, while the US version website I can download the newer 1.60 version. As my M400 is a Danish version I am a little unsure as to if it's ok to update my BIOS to v1.60 now that the nordics toshiba website don't have that BIOS version available.

Any thoughts and views about going ahead and installing the version 1.60 on my DK-version M400 is very welcomed.

On the Toshiba EU driver page you can find only the win-based BIOS update version.
This means that BIOS can be updated from running system only and you need to run Windows OS in order to start the BIOS update procedure. Linux isn't supported in this case...

You have to start the exe file that you can find in zip-archive that you downloaded. After this the BIOS update will start.

But before you do this update, unzip all files and close all running programs. Make also sure that you are logged in as Administrator.

I have a Portege Z835, with a battery problem: don't charge. The battery indicator says "3% connected and charging" but it don't charging the battery.

Some forums says that the solution is updating the Bios. I have a Bios update v.1.60 ready for install. When I try to install, we get the message "the battery power is not enough".

My power cord is always connected. If I disconnect the power cord, laptop is off.

Please, what can I do?

Answer:Portege Z835 - need help with BIOS update

To be honest I don?t think it is BIOS related issue. As far as I know battery should be charged even if the notebook is OFF so why BIOS update if battery cannot be charged at all.

For me it sounds like hardware related issue.

How old is your Portege?
Is warranty still valid?

Maybe you should contact Toshiba service and ask for help or even their opinion.

You can download another version of the same bios-update here : PR10U

This file contains more information about performing the update, see the readme-file
you can either do a direct update within XP or make a bootable diskette or a bootable CD

If the "direct update" within XP won't work, you will need at least an USB-fdd-drive, most of them are recognized easily by the bios ( hold F12 during start-up and choose fdd )

The istall.exe should not crash and you should not update the BIOS in safe mode!
The Windows should be booted up and should run correctly!

Here is a Toshiba FAQ How to update BIOS:

Possibly the error code is related to corrupt windows OS or to missing some necessary Toshiba tools.
Using Win XP the Common Modules should be installed.
Using Vista or Win 7 the VAP (value added packed) should be installed.

I have been wrestling with this device for a while now and I seem to be progressively making the situation worse.

My current issue is that I can no longer access the BIOS after changing a setting in the BIOS that related to USB emulation (or something like that). I was in the process of trying to make the device boot from a USB and pretty much twiddling with every setting to see what would work.

This one didn't. And now the device no longer responds to F2. It's like it is ignoring the keyboard. Doh!

Is there some way to roll back or re-flash the BIOS? Or another way to access it? I tried an external keyboard, to no avail.

How did I get here?

Well ... I was given this device to put back to factory condition and I could not find an obvious option that would do this, other than the Toshiba Maintenance Utility which looked hopeful. It offered to erase the partition (which at the time seemed fair enough) - BUT THAT"S all it did - so the machine just repeatedly boots, displays "Please insert system disk" and then reboots.

OK, I'm an idiot - but it does seem silly for Toshiba to offer an option that instantly bricks the machine?

Anyway, I've moved on from that problem to one that is significantly more dire. Not being able to access the BIOS means I don't have any options - unless one of you wonderful people can help me discover one.

I have since discovered that the next setting I was going to adjust - the Secure Boot setting - may have solved... Read more

Answer:Re: Portege R500 - How to update BIOS on Windows 7?

Hi Roro,

Yes you have to install Windows XP to update the BIOS but my question is: Is this update necessary or just for fun? BIOS update is always a little bit risky and should only be done to solve problems. If your computer runs properly I wouldn?t make this update.

I don?t know if this update is possible on Virtual XP but I wouldn?t try it. If the update fails you need a new ROM module or mainboard. I think the BIOS update isn?t designed for Virtualization mode?

Hi there,

My Portege A600-13Y BIOS is version 1.50:

- should I upgrade to 2.00WIN?
- I found this source for the biso upgrade 2.0 but there is no indication that this file is authentic TOSHIBA bios.
No checksums, no ssl certificate, nothing. Is it possible to get it in a secured / authenticated way?

Thanx for answers,

Answer:Re: Portege A600-13Y: BIOS update 1.50 to 2.00-WIN - How risky it is?

First of all you should use and download the BIOS files only from Toshiba website.
The Portege A600-13Y PPA61E is a Toshiba European notebook model and all the drivers and BIOS can be found on the Toshiba driver page.

I don?t know why you ask for the checksums or ssl certificate? the Toshiba websites are safe?
but everyone who needs the drivers or BIOS can download it?

You should only ensure that you have chosen the right notebook model and that you have downloaded the right BIOS!

But why you want to update the BIOS?
If your notebook is running troublefree then a BIOS update is not important? I follow always this advice; never change a running system.

I'm thinking there might be a similar machine that works in Vista or maybe just an A100 BIOS that will suffice?

Answer:Vista on Portege A100 - Can I update the BIOS?

May I ask where did you found the Vista Value Added Package for Portege A100?
I didn?t find this Value Added Package on the Toshiba Europe site.

There are only 3 files for Vista. One of the files is BIOS v1.60-WIN which seems to be OS-independent.

Regarding the BIOS;
You should know that the BIOS update is always risky.
If you will use wrong BIOS version or wrong BIOS update procedure you can damage the motherboard!!!
?and as you probably know the motherboard is one of the expensive notebook parts!!!
It?s not worth to trying something which can damage the notebook. You know?

The instruction does not work: I connect Teac USB-drive on USB-port, switch USB-FDD emulation to Enable, switch notebook On with F12 pressed, the message "Ready to update BIOS..." appears, I presed key, but nothing happend. What's wrong?

The second one: I cannot install Windows XP on to notebook (it does not boot neither FDD-USB, nor External DVD-USB).
How can I install Windows?

Thank you.

Answer:Portege 3410 - How to update BIOS and install XP?

Just one question: Why do you want to update the BIOS? Is it really necessary?
I ask this because this update is always a little bit risky and you could damage the ROM module.
Anyway, have you tried to load default settings in BIOS before you start the update and install XP?

You can install XP without CD. Therefore you must copy the i386 folder on the HDD from another computer and some booting files for HDD? I think you should search a little bit with Google to find workaround for this. You should find enough! ;)

HI, I have Portege M700 - 116 with Vista Ultimate SP1. And I download a fresh BIOS (P005Bv160.exe) from [] version 1.60-WIN date 10/10/08. When I try to install it I have an error window said:

Unsupported product type is installed.
BIOS Package BIOS version: Ver.1.60
Current BIOS version: Ver.1.50

So my question is... WHATS WRONG?? What a product type? This BIOS update is OS independent and language independent (world wide), so i think many people with M700 will have the same problem. Is it some problems with previous version of BIOS? which I downloaded from the same site month ago. I dont understand, the BIOS installer for Windows was made to make the process easy, but it does not even work...

Answer:Portege M700 - 116 BIOS Update Error

I see you are using the Vista Ultimate.
I doubt this is an original preinstalled Vista version.

The error message: Unsupported product type is installed says that the product (software OS) which is preinstalled is not supported by BIOS. I think the error is related to the preinstalled Vista Ultimate. Possibly the BIOS cannot be updated running Vista Ultimate.

SO it would be very interesting to know if you can update the BIOS running Toshiba preinstalled OS.
Should check this!

I am unable to update the BIOS to either 3.8 or the latest 3.9 version. Error: This Computer Is Not Supported.

VAP is installed and modules are working. A previous forum post suggested that it may be related to the recent Intel Management Interface firmware update which I had applied and am unable to uninstall or rollback.

Any suggestions?

Answer:Portege R830 - BIOS 3.9 Update Error

A friend of mine has updated the BIOS from 3.7 to 3.9 without any big problems.
It could be possible that you cannot update the BIOS because of the missing or disabled TVALZ services.

Go to Control panel -> Administrative Tools icon and click services.

Here you can check if the TVALZ service is available ? if its available, enable it and then try to update the BIOS.

If this will not work, you will need to recover the notebook using Recovery HDD or Recovery disk? The BIOS update should functions using the Toshiba factory settings

I have checked several times that I downloaded the file for the R500....

Answer:Cannot make BIOS update for Portege R500 (PPR50E)

That?s strange.
Did you change something on you installed Vista?

In different cases the BIOS cannot be updated because some essential tools like common modules for Win XP has not been installed.
If you are using vista you don?t need Common Modules but I recommend reinstalling VAP.
Then you should try to run BIOS update again.

Otherwise use the recovery disk and set the notebook back to factory settings.
After the notebook has been set to the same state like at the first day of purchase, you could run BIOS update.

I recently updated the BIOS on my z30c pt263e as per advice from the toshiba update application installed on my PC.

Since that update, my LAN (wireless) and bluetooth have been behaving abnormally, including:
Connecting to various wireless networks, but not being able to access the internet. In order to do so, I have to do a wireless troubleshoot in windows, which resets the wifi adapter, then it works againIf I switch between networks (say a wireless, to a hotspot wireless on my phone) it does the same thing. Will connect to the network, but not access the internet, necessitating the same resetBluetooth has started to work abnormally at the same time, including saying my bluetooth keyboard is paired, but it won't recognise any input from my keyboard.

I've since downloaded and reinstalled both the LAN and Bluetooth drivers from the Toshiba website. This has NOT fixed the problem.

If toshiba is not aware or not going to do anything about this, can someone please post a link to the previous BIOS version (which isn't available when I search on the EU support site) so I can at least verify if it was the BIOS update causing the problem

Answer:Portege Z30-C Latest BIOS update causing LAN and BT problem

Could anyone post the immediate prior BIOS for z30c PT263E. The one recently released (24 January) seems to have resulted in me having new Wireless networking, and bluetooth problems.

how can I update my BIOS when using Ubuntu Linux?

The reason why I'd like to update my BIOS is that on the one hand Ubuntu
writes an error message during boot-up and recommends to upgrade it and on
the other hand I'm afraid that there is maybe a temperature problem, at least the
notebook becomes slower after working for a while.

The notebook operating temperature usually is between 45-64 degrees.
The fan turns on at 62 degrees and turns off at 52 degrees.

Temperature seems to be pretty normal I would say but I think its not normal that the
notebook becomes slower when operating above 50 degrees.

I already opened it, it seems to be all right with the cooling unit, no dirt e.g...

Maybe I just persuade myself I and the performance is completely normal for a PIII with

Thank you

Answer:Portege 2010 BIOS update / operating temperature

Dear Julio

I presume you know that Linux is not supported OS and designed BIOS update is created to be performed in running Windows OS. This nice Portege is known to me and I know very well that it is not the fastest notebook and it is designed for business purposes like working with Office, e-mail communication and every other everyday activity.

Because of that answer to your latest question can be: yes you persuade yourself.

I have an old M800-106 (model PPM81E-00K00JEN). It is good condition and has been reliable, and I don't want to scrap it. Unfortunately the Windows based BIOS update from Toshiba's website froze during it's operation, and now the laptop won't restart.

The cost of sending it to an authorised service provider to repair is significantly more than the cost of replacing the laptop, and I'd be charged even if they didn't fix it. I'm not saying it's expensive - if someone has skills and does some work they should be paid for it, but it's not what I want to spend money on for this laptop.

Environmentally it'd bad to just chuck the laptop away/take to the recycling centre.

I could strip the motherboard out and send that away to have the BIOS chip replaced or reprogrammed, but that would be time consuming and risk me damaging it.

I would like to attempt to flash the BIOS chip, using the crisis Phoenix tools that are available online, but so far haven't found a *.rom or *.wph file to use.

Where can I get the BIOS file - to be honest any version that suits this laptop would do, it doesn't need to be the most recent one.

Any helpful advice gratefully received.

I'm having problems with my R500, so thought I would update the BIOS.

I am directed to download

This contains the file P0058v160.exe

Starting that process leads to:

"install2 has encountered a problem and needs to close"

Do these BIOSes have to be installed incrementally? My r500 is an early one and currently running v1.00.

Answer:Re: Portege R500 - Bios update installer crashes

If you want to update the BIOS then you have to download the BIOS package and have to unzip it firstly.
Then execute the exe stored in the folder.

I?m not sure why the error message appears but please ensure that the Common Modules are installed on your system.

If the error will still persists then this could be a problem with the installed Windows OS and not with the BIOS software.

The new BIOS release (1.8) for Portege M400 solves the problem of fan noise. The readme.txt explains that the temperature will be increased only in three degrees. Very important patch, very recommended for M400 users.

Now i can use my tablet in my business meetings without having to give explanations to the clients of the noise of the ventilator.

Hello Forum,

i have exactly the same problem as described here, 2 years ago:

I need to update my BIOS, but i cant because the BIOS Updater tells me that Intel-TXT is enabled.
Unfortunatelly i cant disable it in my bios. Its just not selectable. The "cursor" just jumps over it.
I can only "Hide" it which doesnt help.
I have the same for the VT-d and VT-x setting in the BIOS. This is not selectable or changeable as well.

TPM isnt enabled though...
I installed the infineon suite and it tells me that i need to enable TPM in bios to use it. :-(

I have an very old Bios Version 3.1 and i read in the changelog that in V3.4 and 3.5 there were many TPM related changes....

Back then, a user named Paolo30 uploaded a file to which fixed this.
Unfortunatelly this file was deleted on

can someone please provide that file (or a later bios update) which fixes this?
Thanks in advance.

Answer:Need Portege R830 BIOS Update without Intel-TXT Check

Port?g? R830-10P belongs to the PT321 series so you need BIOS released for Port?g? R830 PT321

You can download such older BIOS versions from different Toshiba driver pages.
For example:

On this Toshiba Asia page I could find all BIOS for this Portege model.

If not then you have to install the Common Modules in order to be able to run BIOS update!
The Common Modules is an essential component of the Windows systems.
It is required to make other original TOSHIBA programs work properly.

I recently picked up a Portege M200 and installed (via PXE - network install) Windows 7 on it. I would like to upgrade the BIOS as it's still at the original BIOS (1.1). I downloaded and extracted the pkg and tried to install via Windows but it says my OS isn't supported. I don't have an external CD drive or FDD - how can I update the BIOS? I tried to put it on a USB drive but there doesn't seem to be an option to boot from USB.

Answer:Portege M200 BIOS update running Windows 7?

Ok, I'm thinking I could use an SD card but I see it's not recognized by Windows 7 and when I put in a card, nothing happens...

Anyone know where I can find a driver for it? I do see there are 2 devices not recognized - one "Base System Device" and one "Unknown Device"...

And I see it doesn't recognize the video card either - just uses Standard VGA Graphics Adapter which seems to work fine...

Please how can I reset my old BIOS? Is it the end of my Toshiba?
I'm now in a forign country and there are noToshiba service center near to me

Please is there anyway to help me

Answer:Portege M400 - doesn't start after a BIOS update

I think in this case you must go to an ASP. I don?t see another solution for this problem because I think the ROM module must be reflashed or the completely mainboard must be replaced.

On the Toshiba website you can search for the nearest ASP: => Support & Downloads => Find an authorized service provider

And if you don?t find an ASP in your country just contact an ASP in another country. I?m sure that they will try to help you.

Hi there.

I manage an IT company, and some of our equipments are portege z930.

We use Linux as the main OS, and in order to use all HDD space, we've erased Windows partition.

How can I update BIOS from a Linux operative system? I asked in an official technichal support company, and they told me they use an special linux live CD handled by Toshiba.

I don't know if I can get this live cd somehow. If not, I'd like to know how to update our Bios without having to reinstall Windows OS.

Thanks in advance!

As far as I know on BIOS download page Toshiba offers Windows version only. Generally speaking Linux is not supported at all.
Try to contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. Maybe they can obtain such special CD.

By the way: why you didn?t prepared machine (BIOS update) before you have started to install Linux?

Did you have some serious problems which the BIOS upgrade can solve?
Please note that you should upgrade the BIOS only if you have serious problems and if you know that the BIOS upgrade will solve the problems.

I have an Old Portege A100, Model: PPA10A-0002LP, but I can't seem to find that model on any Toshiba website, closest I've seen is the " PPA10A-0002L".

I'm wanting to see if there's a BIOS update that will allow me to Boot from a USB Device.

The issue I am having is that I need to reinstall Windows, but the CD ROm cant read discs.
It does Network Booting PXE, but i'm new to this sort of thing and have absolutly no idea what to do there.

Any help would be great,

Answer:Portege A100 PPA10A - Will BIOS update allow to boot from a USB device

Portege A100 seems to be developed only for Australian market.
As you said there is a Portege A100 PPA10A-0002L model number listed on the Toshiba Australian page but the Portege A100 PPA10A-0002LP belongs to the same series which is PPA10A.
So in my opinion the BIOS should work too.

Anyway, I doubt that the BIOS update will add any further booting options.

Usually the BIOS support the booting from CD/DVD drive, HDD, LAN and USB FDD.
It should be possible to boot from a bootable diskette using an USB FDD drive.
I doubt you would be able to boot from USB ODD since this Portege A100 supports an internal CD/DVD drive.

Hi everyone!

I've got a problem.
I downloaded the BIOS Update from the Toshiba Hompage.

The update started correctly, but at the point "Flash new BIOS" at "Processing block 26 of 33" the update stucks!
I'm waiting since almost 2 hours, but nothing happens.
My screen freezes, I can't move the cursor, the clock shows the same time.... so nothing happens...

Is that normal?
I don't think so, but it's my first BIOS-update, hence I'm not really familiar with it...

Does anyone has an idea?

It would be great to get some help!

Answer:Portege M800 - BIOS Update stucks - Windows 7 32bit

This is different not a common BIOS update process?
The BIOS update should not take a long time.

In your case is it possible that something went wrong during the flashing process and the ROM module has not been flashed properly.
I think you are in trouble and in my opinion only the ASP technician would be able to help you.

The BIOS ROM must be flashed again using an crisis procedure and this can be done only by an ASP technician.

The latest BIOS upgrade (Ver.6.70) for my Portege Z930 12H laptop comes with the warning:

Answer:Portege 3500: system32 file missing - BIOS update?

I can?t believe that and virus can damage the BIOS!!!
I think you have updated the BIOS with the wrong procedure!!!
Did you check the document how to update the BIOS?

Anyway, the system32 fault has nothing to do with BIOS and I don?t understand why you started the BIOS update.

The Portege 3500 does not support an internal drive and therefore if you want to install the OS you have to use a compatible external PC-card drive.
I assume you use such drive for booting.

If some error messages appear during the installation procedure, you should firstly format the whole HDD and delete all partitions and then try again to boot from the recovery CD!

Answer:Qosmio G30-211: How to BIOS update on Vista 64bit?

Because of your first thread posted here in the forum I assume you have an Qosmio G30-211 notebook. This unit belongs to the PQG32E series.

Now we have to clarify something;
The Toshiba notebooks are not delivered with any 64bit OS. Also the Qosmio G30-211 was not preinstalled with Vista 64bit but with Windows 32bit XP Media Center Edition 2005.

In my opinion you have to run the original Toshiba image (or MS Vista 32bit OS) to update the BIOS!!! And not a 64bit OS!!!
The 3.50-WIN BIOS available at this time on the Toshiba page is ?OS independent? So it should be available to update it running Vista or Xp.

In the BIOS zip folder you will find only a exe file and you have to ?run? this file to start the BIOS update procedure.

By the way; the Toshiba document says;

For the current range of Notebooks Toshiba offers two different BIOS update procedures.
- Windows based update: BIOS is updated from within Windows.
- Traditional update: BIOS is updated using a diskette or CD-ROM when booting.
We recommend to update the BIOS from within Windows.

Answer:Bios update alert for Satellite L755 19X Win 7 64bit

BIOS / CMOS updates aren't to be taken for granted and not to be blindly installed as Firefox update or AntiVirus definition.

I don't have enough time or the patience to explain why flashing the system is riskier than the other Microsoft updates you're accustomed to clicking and accepting since your overly trustful manner is evident and your entire question underscores a typical recalcitrance that has to be dispelled for you after you brick your box into a state of scrap metal.

Whether you already know it or need to find out for yourself, a bricked system from a failed CMOS flashing is usually deigned end user abuse and your warranty is normally voided, you have no reason to accept the words of a stranger on the forum you posted your question on, but google or search this forum for any term like "FAILED bios Upgrade" and the bad stories are long and varied but the solution is typical when the owner find out their box is ruined.

Don't bother replying why or explaining what prompted you to seek the CMOS upgrade since it just underscores your determination to defend your aspiration and as uninteresting to me as the insignificant joyhood of a student driver until they manage to get close enough to actually harm me.

Hello guys.
I need to upgrade my A350D PSAKCE bios. But I don't know what is the difference between Windows_BIOS_Package_V330_1 and Windows_BIOS_Package64_V330_1. Which should I install? I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit edition.

Answer:Satellite A350D PSAKCE - Bios 32bit and 64bit update

One is 32bit, the other is 64bit.

Since you have 64bit Windows installed, use Windows_BIOS_Package64_V330_1

If it gives an error, you need to install the Win7 64bit Toshiba Value Added Package from the Toshiba website.

Dear community,

I plan to update to Windows 7 64 bit. My notebook is Toshiba Qosmio F50-10M with a preinstalled VISTA32bit.

Is there a need to update the BIOS prior installing the new OS? I read that there is a BIOS update f??r VISTA64bit available but none I discovered for Win7 64bit.

Can you give a clue?

I am confident and glad to own such a powerful notebook but this not completed OS named VISTA is driving me nuts increasingly reading all those nice reports concerning the benefits of Windows7!

Eager to read your welcomed responses

Answer:Qosmio F50 - Need to update BIOS in order of installing Win7-64bit

There is a BIOS for Vista 32bit and 64bit.
There is no special Win 7 BIOS.

If you want to install Win 7 64bit then I would recommend using the BIOS for Vista 64bit. If you want to install Win 7 32bit -> choose vista 32bit BIOS.

Usually it should be possible to update the BIOS running Win 7 as well but because it?s a BIOS for Vista OS, I recommend updating the BIOS running Vista.

I have a Qosmio G50 that I have upgraded to Windows 7 64bit. My BIOS is unupdated from 6 months ago when I bought the machine.

I went to update the BIOS just to keep things up to date, so I went through the online driver wizard:

And with all the above information inputted, it provides:

After unzipping and running P0060v210.exe, it extracts and then says:

" [Error] BIOS Update is not supported OS. Unsupported OS or service pack is installed. " (Word up to all my Googling friends!) "

Does Toshiba have a BIOS update for the Qosmio G50 that is supported on Windows 7? Specifically 64bit? They should fix this glitch that directs you to download this file when it clearly isn't supported by Windows 7.

Also, I tried to run it in compatibility mode with Windows XP SP2 and it ran fine -- but I was nervous about going through with the update if it originally doesn't support Windows 7, so I don't continue at the next prompt. Is it safe to do this? Has anyone else in this situation done it without issues? I've read that BIOS updates can go horribly wrong if not careful, so I'm hesitant to update the BIOS by running the updater in compatibility mode when it doesnt support Windows 7 on its own!

Thanks in advance for any assistance and Merry Xmas.

Is my M750 tablet 64 bit capable?
I'd like to install 8G of ram and be able to use that amount.....
The processor will run 64 bit, the motherboard will support 8G, but will the rest of the system?

Answer:Portege M750 - is it 64bit capable?

Do you want to know if your Win 7 would recognize the 8GB RAM?
In order to use more than 4GB RAM three components needs to support this;
- chipset
- OS 64bit

As far as I know some of the M750 supports the Mobile Intel(R) GM45 Express Chipset.
This chipset is 8GB capable so it should be able to use 8GB RAM.
In such case I think that BIOS would also recognize 8GB RAM.

You can install any OS. You can use Win 7 64bit and I don?t see any reasons why this should not work

Having upgraded the RAM to 8GB, how do I now upgrade the installed 'Windows 7 Pro' from 32 bit to 64 bit so as to make best use of the extra memory?

Non tecchie, so please explain in simple terms!

Answer:Portege R700 - How to upgrade from Win 7 32bit to 64bit?

You cannot ?upgrade? from Win 7 32bit to 64bit.
To use the Win 7 64bit system, you will need to make a full, clean Win 7 64bit installation.

This would require new installation of all your software, tool, utilities as well as drivers.

Hi - I have the 2-disc Toshiba Windows 7 upgrade but there is no option in the installation process to select 64 bit (I currently have a 32 bit Vista Home premium on there)

I have a Portege M800-11J - which says it supports 64 bit

Any clues on how i can change this?

Answer:Portege M800 - How to upgrade to Windows 7 64bit?

Sounds like that you didn?t understand how the upgrade works.

You can?t make an upgraded from every version. For example you can?t upgrade a 32bit version of Windows to a 64bit version or upgrade from a higher edition of Windows to a lower edition.

So that means you can only make the upgrade to 32bit Windows 7. For Windows 7 64bit you have to make new installation.

Does it works? What about drivers?

Answer:Portege R500 - Does Windows XP 64bit work?

I never heard from a Toshiba notebook that supports Windows XP 64bit. The reason is why Windows XP 64bit was not so popular and the driver supports wasn?t so good.
Furthermore I have checked the Toshiba website and there are no XP 64bit drivers available.

You can try to install it but have to search the drivers by yourself. Maybe you find working drivers.

I currently have a Toshiba Portege R700-17Z.

I want to increase the amount of RAM from 2GB to 8GB, and as a result I want to run Windows 64 bit. I was planning on running a clean reinstall, but is 64 bit Windows built into this machine? Or will I need a separate disk?

If I need a separate disk, any ideas on how to do this without an optical drive?

Many thanks!

Answer:Portege R700-17Z - Upgrading to Windows 7 64bit

At first info about RAM upgrade: You are right. You can upgrade your Portege up to 8GB and compatible 4GB modules have part number PA3677U-1M4G.

According notebook specification your Portege was delivered with WIN7 32BIT PROFESSIONAL but it is supported for Win7 64bit. 64bit drivers and Toshiba specific tools and utilities can be downloaded from Toshiba download page.

What is your decision now? If you need some assistance with OS installation let us know.

I have a Toshiba M400 and i was wondering how i could reset the bios password. I disabled the finger print scanner recently becuase i decided i dont need it anymore but it still asks for a bios password which i forgot. I used to just swipe my finger and it would let me boot up and all that gravey.

If you guys know how to reset the password. Either physically or through software that would be awesome.

Or if you guys know who is the bios manufacturer for Portege M400's I could probebly give them a call and ask my self.

I could send it in but I want to avoid that and leave it as a last option.

BTW this laptop was purchased in USA.

Answer:Reset BIOS password on Portege M400 - Bios Manufacturer?

You will be not able to remove the BIOS password yourself if you have forgotten it.
As far as I know the manufacture of the BIOS which was preinstalled on Port?g? M400 is......... Toshiba ;)

So you have to contact the authorized Toshiba service provider in your country and only these guys are able to remove the BIOS password which you have forgotten.

On a Protege R830-1GZ

Wiped laptop with Debian install to solve a work related emergency while visiting family.
Return home and realise recovery media I had was for an old Satellite netbook.
After a few attempts realise that the 'Win7 Home Premium' Product Key on the laptop sticker is just wishful thinking.
I bite the bullet and try to buy the Toshiba "Recovery Media" which you retail for over ?40.00.
via :
The only available language option is 'NH' not GB. This is not a new issue, from 2012:

TLDR: I have a wiped Protege R830; The Windows Product Key that I have already paid for is useless; Your 'recovery media' purchase web forms are messed up.

Can any good Samaritan or otherwise stealth Toshiba employee help??

Thank you in advance

I have owned a Portege M400 for a 3-4 months now, and I'm just wondering if there's even one single person out there who has succeeded to get this laptop work under vista 64bit.

I finally got bluetooth drivers to work, after drivers came avaiable. But the next list doesn't work or I havent found drivers that work.

-Buttons under the LCD screen
-Accelometer (and all the utilites like rotating display or doing something while tilting machine)
-HDD protection utility ( I installed Vista drivers, but they totally destroyed the machine and I had to restore system. windows didn't start after installation)
-Fingerprint reader

And I could live if I just could get buttons and accelometer to work, but still it would be great that the whole laptop would work.

I am starting to lose hope and I am already considering to install pirate Vista 32bit into that laptop... Because it seems that It was a mistake to buy 64bit ultimate. some Toshibas drivers state they are "vista" drivers but they still don't work with 64bit version, that's bit frustating...

Anyway if anyone could help me I would appreciate it a lot! Because i'm slowly getting frustated with this issue with 64bit vista.

Thanks in advance

Answer:Portege M400: Where to find Windows Vista 64bit

I really understand you but there is nothing to do!!!!! The Toshiba 64bit Vista drivers are not available on the Toshiba page. Nothing!!!

Of course you can use an Vista 64bit on the notebooks but you will not get any 64bit drivers. Maybe later but not at this time!!!

So either you will switch again to 32bit Vista or you have to use this notebook without the 64bit drivers. But this is not recommended?

I have a Portege R830-1DU and i'm very disappointed with Toshiba.

I have the Function Keys working on the first month of windows 8. wherever, an windows update broken that to me and after that the function kys doesn't work anymore.

I reformated the pc, i tryied everything i found on the web but the only thing i found its the Value Added Package or the Memory Card Controller is missing. i tryed to install and reinstall all the versions but it seems to be to 32bits and no 64bit version. So i have to wait for next version of TVAP

Windows 8 has been released a lot of months and i think the problem is not to hard to solve.

Is there any another way to get function keys back to live?

I cannot get TOSHIBA Wireless Manager (3G) to work in a new installation of Win 7 64 bit.

I made a successful trial installation of Windows 7 64-bit on and old SATA hard disk drive and checked that TOSHIBA Wireless Manager would work. It did.

I then made a new installation of Windows 7 64-bit on a new Crucial C300 Real SSD 256GB.

The new installation with the Crucial SSD is not very successful.... The "shutdown and restart" operation does not work -- the shutdown does not always power off completely and you have to hold the power switch down to power off.

Sometimes the SSD will not boot -- you enter the BIOS password but then nothing happens. Sometimes you have to power down and take the battery out before the drive will boot.

But the biggest problem is that the Wireless Manager (3G) will not work. The application opens and states that "Radio is turned off" -- which it can't be as I'm using the WiFi to post this question.

I have tried installing the Vodafone 3G software. This detects the presence of the "mobile device" (SIM card in the slot) but then cannot enable it.

I have downloaded and installed all the latest chip drivers, the 3G driver, 3G software, LAN driver, LAN software and all Windows 7 updates.

I have the latest BIOS (3.0) but this has not been updated by Toshiba since 04/11/09.

I note that the Toshiba PC Diagnostic Tool does not recognize the 8G memory installed (but ccleaner does):

Model Name ... Read more

Answer:Portege M750 Win7 64bit Wireless Manager (3G) will not work

points to a firmware issue on the SSD drive (is it sandforce) coupled to BIOS incompatability of the SSD.

i presume all the drivers etc installed were identical on the HDD trial install? so if thats the case it has to be the SSD not communicating with the BIOS correctly, hence the other issues as well

I was looking for a way to reduse fan noise on a Win7 Portege R700-174 and read to install "Power Saver" from the Toshiba support site.

Installation was OK, but I cannot use ist because Common Module is not installed. I get an error "Code: 0x2". I already understand that "Power Saver" and "Common Module" is not intended for windows 7. Why have I been able to install it anyway?

Now when I try to remove "Power Saver" i get yet another error and uninstall fails.

What can I do? Any help is appreciated!

Answer:Portege R700 - Installed Power Saver on Windows 7 64bit

Toshiba Common Modules and Power Saver are designed for Windows XP only! This software isn?t compatible to Vista and Windows 7. In this case you have to install Value Added Package.

Anyway, not it?s too late and you must remove the installed software. If you get an error while uninstalling I would recommend using CCleaner to remove the programs. CCleaner can also uninstall all software that you have installed and it?s freeware tool. Do a Google search to download it and try uninstalling the Toshiba tools again.

Check this!!!

I have a strange problem with my M800:
after 20 minutes of audio playing, the computer is periodically freezing for about a second and then works ok for about a minute.

The problem is the same with any audio player I am using: WMP11 or AIMP2.5. It works well for the first 20 minutes, then it is starting freezing.

If I close one player and open the other one, it works ok for 20 minutes, then the problem appears.

I have to mention that I have the latest Toshiba driver.

Answer:Portege M800 sound frezzes for 1sec using Vista 64bit

Hm, that?s really strange?

Do you hear music from CD or HDD? Maybe something want to read or write a file on the HDD, so you have the freezes.

You can try to disable the TEMPRO in msconfig
Start => run => msconfig => Startup
Here you can disable it.

Check if you have the newest chipset driver from the Toshiba website.

I?m interested in, what is the solution of this problem.

I have recently bought the Portge R700 and am disappointed with the memory. I have a licenced edition of Windows 7 64-bit: what problems might occur if I upgrade? Once installed, I can then use 8Mb RAM.

Furthermore I found the website misleading reagrding the ability to use 8Mb RAM with the32-bit OS. I have 4Mb installed, ans see that only 2.86Mb is usable.

I receive 'low memory' messages and would like to know how to allocate more RAM to video.

Answer:Portege R700 - Upgrade from Windows 7 32bit to 64bit and memory question

Upgrading from 32 to 64 (which actually means installing fresh since there is no upgrade path from 32 to 64) will probably give no issues.

There are could be strange pitfalls - I think some special security software are not always fast enough to follow the major trends among consumers.
I.e. there are electonic ID's client software used to identify yourself in government and authorities. Those could be limited to 32 bit versions.
I think the Flash-plugin for your web browser used to be limited to 32 bit browsers only, but I am not sure if that issue still applies.

Apart from that You should consider if this unit is a company owned one and then discuss with your IT department if this is an OK move.
If this is just your private unit and you do not have issues with Flash (if this is still a limitation) I see no major problems going to 64 bit OS.

You will be able to adress and use all your memory except for the part allocated to video.

The low amount of memory You see currently is simply caused by the limits of the OS architecture (32 bit).

Low memory messages are a bit odd however since 2. something GB memory should be anough for daily use.
If You are not using memory hungry applications maybe you should check your software (viruses, software problems) and possibly recover the unit.

First post following recent (academic sector / business) purchase of a Portege Z930-146 (Serial number XC141056H, short part number PT235E).

Configured the pre-install W7 64-bit, local application software installed, hand-over to principal user (the boss).

User reports 3 BSODs in just a few days - I have the mini-dumps, and have performed first-order analysis using "blue screen view":

MEMORY_MANAGEMENT (ntoskrnl.exe)

We're really UNIX guys, so this is unfamiliar territory.

I've just updated the BIOS, but now have a long (50+) list of possible drivers to also update. One at a time for download and install?

I've ran memory and disc diagnostics - no errors or warnings reported.

Can anyone spot a possible likely problem, or point me gently in the direction of Toshiba's official support route please, or suggest next steps?

Thank you in advance,

Answer:Portege Z930-146: BSOD running Win 7 64bit - support pointers and advice

ntoskrnl.exe is a Microsoft boot up kernel and the dxgkrnl.exe seems to has something to do with graphic.

I would recommend checking if the update of display driver would improve the system performance.
So visit the Toshiba EU driver page, choose the Satellite Z930 PT235E and download the latest Intel display driver.
The Z930-146 was equipped with Intel HD Graphics 4000 chip so you need the Intel driver.

You could also try to download the driver directly from Intel page since they should provide always the newest version.
