Preferred Solution: Strange keyboard behaviour on a Portege 4010

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Strange keyboard behaviour on a Portege 4010

Hi

I hope you press the keys very gently. ;)

Does this happen if you typing very fast, or it doesn?t not make any difference by typing fast or slow?
Try to test it with external keyboard.

Out of the blue, I am experiencing keyboard problems on my portege 4010. I have difficulty booting up and now that I have, I can't access certain problems, the keys get stuck, funny bleeping noises...all the symptoms of a dodgy keyboard. Anything I can do other than buy a replacement keyboard (v.expensive) or use an external keyboard?

I personally have not dropped anything on the keyboard, therefore can probelms just develop overnight or should I interogate my husband.

Answer:Keyboard Problems on my Portege 4010

Hi

Maybe your husband has changed something? ;)
But seriously, if you have some problems with booting and with the keyboard in my opinion you should try to recover you OS. If the malfunction stills the same I would recommend to contact the ASP for further informations.

Hi

Can anyone tell me how to type the @ character please?
When I attempt to type that character my screen shows " .
This also applies to the # character - which shows a $ sign.
There must be a toggle to access these characters.

Please advise.
Many thanks Roblgay

Hello everybody,
today i got a used Portege 4010. I pluged in the powercable and wanted to start it. Green DC, orange battery lamp and when i switched it on a gree Power on lamp appears. But thats all, nothing more happens. The screen remains black, only a very little sound is in the machine, i think this is the HD. The curiosity was, that i unplugged the power cable (while the Power lamp was on)and the Laptop was booting!? I wanted to do this again, but no chance. Only 2 times i got it to boot this way, Switch on-nothing->Switch off/Switch on-nothing->unplugging the power cord->booting!? I tried then to boot from a self booting Knoppix(linux)CD but after 10 seconds loading linux the screen went black again! Can anyone help me? What could that be? Battery? Ram? Wherer can i do a Cmos clear? It's very frustrating :-( Thanks a lot, greetings from germany, Chris

Answer:Portege 4010: No Booting

Update: Now i tried a 128mb Pc100 ram from a other laptop. When i switchen on, the were 3 beeps. So i think the problem is because of the ram. it is a HYNIX PC133S-333-542 256mv Sync CL3.

Does anyone know if I can change the slimbay on my portege 4010 to a CD-R, or ideally a DVD-R?
If so what are the best places to get these?
(I live in the UK)

Thanks for any suggestions,

Answer:Portege 4010: How to install cd-r or dvd-r?

Hello

I have found info that this Portege is delivered with two drives. The drives are:
Toshiba (SD-C2502) and TEAC (DV28E-B).

I really don?t know if any DVD-R/RW drive is compatible but you can contact service partner in your country and ask them. Usually they make hardware upgrade and should have enough experience.

Other way, try to find some notebook upgrade shop in your country.

Would appreciate any help at all...

Answer:Portege 4010 - After RAM upgrade nothing happens

Hello

It sounds like that the new RAM is not compatible with your notebook.
What manufacture is it? If it?s a no-name module you should buy another one like Kingston, Infineon or something else.

What memory have you installed before upgrade or do you use only the new module in the notebook?

I have noticed that regardless of whether I'm in Word (or any other application) a single press of the keyboards' 'quotation mark/apostrophe' key won't have any effect. In order to produce a apostrophe mark I have to press the relevant key followed by any other key - which results in a apostrophe and the other unwanted character - meaning a press of backspace is warranted to delete the unwanted character.

All the other letter/numerical keys work as they should, would anyone know how to make the key recognise a single keystroke.
In Windows? control panel, the default input language I can currently choose to use:

English (Australia) - United States-International, or;
English (Australia) - US

I don?t know what the technical difference between these settings is - or if the entire keyboard requires a totally different language setting for Australia.
Could someone shed some light on this uncooperative key issue?
I am using Win 7 Premium

My friend has a keyboard that is acting very weird. I post this in the Operating Systems section because I don't believe it is a hardware problem.

Sometimes it's working absolutely correctly, then sometimes it gets a problem that sticks for a long time: When he types "2", he gets "23". "w" gets "we", "s" gets "sd", "x" gets "xc". "F1" gets "F1F2"! Same happens if he's holding shift.

His keyboard is PS/2. Fiddling with the plug did no good. We tried another PS/2 KB he has (unfortunately he has no USB KB's at the moment, but he's trying to get one now), and the problem was different: He could only type the letters "befhkmopqtuqyz" from the alphabet. I hope that's not because it's old, the last time he tried it it was 100% functional. Hell, his whole computer is old

This problem has started since he took this PC to the shop for multiple h/w & s/w problems. First he had s/w problems, then he kicked his PC, then the h/w problems started.

When he got it back, it seemed to be alright, until this KB problem started.

Will update once he tries a USB KB.

I recently bought a reconditioned Portege 4010 and it works great, except that the sound glitches a lot. It seems to be random, can occur like once in 3-4 seconds or it can sound fine for a few minutes then *glitch glitch glitch*. It sounds like the tempo of the sound is slowed down and then catches back up, and it sometimes makes a popping sound.

I previously had a Portege 4000 , which made a little popping sound every once in a while, but it occured rarely, like once every 30 minutes, and was hardly noticeable. On this 4010 it is much worse.

I have all the official Toshiba drivers, running a tweaked installation of XP SP2. I have tried a clean install and the sound has the same glitches.

Right now i am using the ULi drivers i found on the Nvidia download page, they helped a bit, the sound bugs now occur more sporadically, but when they do occur (once every couple minutes or so), they are still as bad as they initially were. Also, the ULi drivers are the only sound drivers i could find that have proper volume levels, with the drivers found on your site the Wave volume distorts when turned over 20-25%, now i don't have to worry as even if it gets set to max like some games do, the sound won't be distorted. I had the same problem on my old Portege 4000, back then i didn't know about the drivers fix and used a volume limiting program to force "naughty" apps and games to respect the mixer settings.

The 4010 is such a great portable, when using a second bat... Read more

Answer:Portege 4010 sound issues

Well, never mind, i fixed it. I found this great program named DPC Latency Checker, and it helped me determine it was the wireless card inducing delays and messing up the sound. I happened to have another card lying around, i replaced the one that was in the notebook and now it's all working fine.

Hi

I am a proud owner of a Toshiba Portege 4010 but the only problem I haven't been able to resolve is the sound.

The problem manifests itself when I use a MP3 playback program (Winamp / TRAKTOR DJ). The music skips for a very short period of time, maybe a 20 millisecond part every 1-2 minutes (aleatory timing).

I tried modifying every buffer option in my mp3 playback programs without any results.
I am running Windows XP Service Pack 2 with all the drivers installed from the Toshiba website (including the WINXP sound driver)

The problem does not disappear if the laptop is running plugged in (best CPU performance).

If someone encountered this problem and knows the solution, I would really appreciate.
I use this laptop for background music playback (I'm a DJ).

Best regards
Mircea Bartic

Answer:Sound issues on Portege 4010

Hi Mircea

It is not easy to say what the problem can be. If I understood you right this occur just if the notebook runs on battery power supply. Am I right?

I presume that CPU or maybe HDD activity interrupts the music. Please try to check CPU activity settings (Performance) in power saver tool under profile which is used if the unit runs on battery power supply.

It is also possible that some applications (antivir program) forced HDD activity. Please check all those aspects.

Well, you are right. After the Toshiba driver and utility installation your notebook will singing & dancing like a rock star ;)
Now, it's getting serious.
You have to install the Toshiba drivers in the right order.
If the drivers are available please install:
1.) Chipset utility
2.) Common modules
3.) Graphic driver
4.) Sound driver
5.) etc?.

All this drivers you should find here

My portege 4010 has had grey marks on its screen for some time. I have tried various screen cleaning fluids and they don't shift them. They appear to come from the screen's contact with the keys?

How can I remove these, or can I replace the piece of transparent plastic that covers the LCD?

Answer:Dirty screen on my Portege 4010

Hi,

if you can't clean the screen with any different cleaning fluids, it can be that these grey marks are not dirt but dents!

My suggestion is if you can't clean it you should contact a Toshiba Service Partner (perhaps you have warranty) and check it! It can be that the dents are caused by a too high adjusted keyboard. This should be checked to avoid a higher damage.

I then tried installing the modem drivers from the Toshiba Website but that did not work either. Does anyoone know where I am going wrong or how to resolve this problem.

Hi,
I,ve just got two of these and they both have marks behind the screen. Almost looks like mould or a spillage on the inside of the surface, they are not electronic type marks ( dead pixels etc ). Can I access the back side of the front surface by dismantling the lid or is this part of some sort of sealed unit.

Answer:Portege 4010 - marks behind screen

Hello

I can?t exactly imagine what it could be. I have checked some websites about this unit but I don?t found any marks. If you think that it?s a hardware fault so you should ask the ASP for detailed informations and help.
But you shouldn?t open or remove covers on your unit

I have a Portege 4010 and cannot find the memory expansion bay to upgrade the memory. Under my laptop is the harddrive, dvd, battery and what I think should be the memory, BUT it has 2 wires attached to it.

Answer:Portege 4010 - Memory upgrade

Hi

The memory modules are hidden under the keyboard!
So you will have to remove firstly a think plastic cover above the F1-F12 keys.
Then you should find 2 screws which secure the keyboard.

Please be careful because the keyboard is attached to motherboard with a thin flat cable?

Then you could see the memory modules. Gently press out on two latches.
One end of the expansion memory module will pop up. Then grasp the expansion memory module and pull it out.

Hope this helps...

I'd like to upgrade my Portege 4010 memory and I know that I need 144pin/PC133 SO-DIMM SD-RAM. Unfortunately I couldn't figure out (even after talking to Toshiba Austria), if I have to buy low or maybe high density memory.

Most of the cheap memory on eBay is high density and I'm afraid to buy an incompatible one.

I hope somebody already has experience with that. It seems to be my last chance to get some competent information.

Thank you.

Answer:Memory upgrade on Portege 4010

As I remember maximum memory for Portege 4010 is 1 GB (2 x 512 MB) and it doesn't matter if you choose high or low density version.
If you need 100% guarantee you choose the low density version.

It just happened this morning after I had to re-install some Wacom Cintiq drivers. For some reason the keyboard will only type a few characters before it just stops working. It appears to be working fine to type my windows login but if I try typing in a Google search or a Word document I can get at most 6-10 characters before I then need to click there again with the mouse to start typing again. Then it seems to move off again. I have a Logitech wireless keyboard and the Y50 behjaves the same with the keyboard usb plugged in or with the laptop's keyboard as well as the virtual keyboard. From what I can work out it looks like it randomly moves away from what you're typing, a bit like trying to type on a document when you have the spreadsheet highlighted or whatever. If I left click on whatever I'm typing it only stays there a few seconds. Ideas?

Hi there, I have a problem with my M40-223 notebook. Sometimes happens that the keyboard goes completely crazy, you cannot write anything, or just a few letters, and the whole system becomes unstable and I have to reset (sometimes several times). I don't really know what to do, the system is clean from spyware/malaware, any suggestions?

Thank you in advance,

L.

Answer:Satellite M40-223: Strange keyboard behaviour

Are you sure it?s only a keyboard problem and not a corrupt Windows operating system?
The keyboard hardware malfunction is possible? Something similar happened on my friend?s notebook. The whole notebook was not accessible because the mouse cursor jumped on the screen and it was possible to do anything?
Finally the ASP has replaced the whole keyboard and solved this problem?

I?m not 100% sure if your keyboard is faulty. I think the new OS installation from recovery CD is necessary to ensure that this is a hardware or software issue.

If the same will appear after the usage of the Recovery CD then it?s definitely an hardware issue and the part must be replaced!!!

Hello, I am having an issue with an older Toshiba. It hasn't been used in a while, but when I went to use it for the first time in about 2 years, it is giving me an error message saying, "**** Bad check sum (CMOS) **** Check system. Then press F1 key." I can press the key and go into a BIOS setup screen, but after about 1 minute it just shuts off. I know that I may need to change the BIOS battery, but would that be what's causing the sudden shut off? If it helps, it also makes a single clicking sound when it shuts off, but I assume that it's just because of the screen turning off. Any help would be greatly appreciated, but if it can't be fixed it might just be time for a new laptop... Would love to salvage this one though =(

Answer:Toshiba Portege 4010 Startup then shut down.

I would replace the CMOS battery first........and see if that solves the problem.

Today I upgraded to Windows 10. Everything seems to be working ok except my keyboard's strange behaviour.

When the Fn Key is NOT pressed:

(1) The keys 1,2 are not working at all
(2) The keys 3,4 adjust the volume
(3) Space key not working at all
(4) Function Keys behave normally (F1, F2 etc)

When the Fn Key is pressed:

(1) Keys 1,2,3,4 work as nymbers
(2) Space key works as space
(3) Function keys are doing nothing

I tried uninstalling everything related to toshiba as well as pressing Fn for 10 seconds, Fn+Ctrl, Fn-Scroll lock and any other combination I could think of.

In the BIOS there is no option to disable the function keys.
In the HWSETUP there is no option as well

I would really welcome any suggestions. Thanx for your time.

Answer:Tecra 8000: Strange keyboard behaviour after reassembling

Hi,

maybe there's some dirt in the keyboard or it was damaged a little bit. You should clean the contacts of the keys and try again. I don't think this is software related. So in the worst case you have to replace the keyboard.

I have a Portege A100 now getting on for three years old.
There is a problem with the keyboard, only affecting keys 5tgb - one diagonal line.
When the PC is first turned on these keys often do not work at all. After a while, if I press hard, particularly if I turn caps lock on, the keys start working and then work more or less fine. Sometimes turning the PC off and on again sorts the problem out; using the shift key often makes it worse. Sometimes the keys work, but only with a delay. No other keys are affected.
I am baffled as to whether this is a hardware problem (are these keys connected though a single connector?) or some strange software problem, perhaps connected with the microsoft traditional chinese input method editor which I recently downloaded.

Any help or advice would be gratefully received.

Alan Watson

Answer:Strange keyboard problem - Portege A100

Hi

The keys are connected on the board as the rest of the keyboard buttons.
There are not connected separately. For me it looks like an hardware would malfunctions.
Why? Well, this is not easy to say?. Sometimes looses keyboard cable affects the keyboard usage. But maybe the whole keyboard must be replaced.

We have to consider this possibility? I think you should contact the ASP in your country. If the warranty is valid the replacement should be done for free.

Hello,

on a Z20t-B-10C with one minor modification (upgraded to a 500GB Samsung SSD, dropped recovery partition, but not the EFI partition), I have the following issue:
When the BestCrpyt Pre-boot screen shows up, I cannot directly enter the passphrase, but have to 1) hit at least one key 2) wait for approx. 10 sec. 3) delete the entered key(s) and then 4) enter the passphrase.
Thought it may have to do with a delayed interaction between tablet and keyboard dock, but a USB keyboard directly connected to the tablet, not the dock, shows the same behaviour. Trying different things in the Bios (switching to UEFI legacy, etc.), with no effect. This phenomenon is, according to their support, not known to the BestCrypt people. Operation system is Windows 10 64bit, all drivers and bios are recent.
Has anybody else observed this behaviour? Or experience with other full disk encryption which are compatible with a UEFI bios?
Thank you in advance,
Kind regards,
Rob

I have just got in a T410s to my office which has a very quirky behaviour when hitting the space bar. It makes the space AND a cursor right. It happens in every application. The laptop is running Win 7 64-bit Enterprise. But, here comes the quirky thing; It doesn't happen if I plug in an external keyboard. AND I have also tried replacing the keyboard unit itself with a brand new CRU, so it can't be a problem with the keyboard itself (except maybe the controller if it's down on the motherboard). So, it feels likely it has to be a utility or a setting which the user has enabled by mistake, or possibly a driver error for the internal keyboard. Any clues on what could be the cause?

The board needs to be replaced due to warranty, if there is no damage by liquids.

Quick question - will a keyboard for a Portege S100 work in a Portege M100?

Layout looks similar; albeit a different colour.

Answer:Will a keyboard for a Portege S100 work in a Portege M100?

Hi

I think you cannot use the same keyboard because the Portege S100 supports the an-easy-to-use 84-key (US) or 85-key (UK) keyboard and the Portege M100 supports the an-easy-to-use 85/86-key keyboard.
Furthermore the connector of the S100 supports the CN3230 keyboard interface 34 pin connector and the M100 supports the PJ3230 keyboard 34pin connector.

So possibly this could be a problem.
I recommend using the original keyboards released for the each notebook model.

Question: Strange behaviour

Hi,
For the last few days, I had the following problem with my laptop (HP 8710w):
1. Got Virtumonde.dll somehow, remove it with SUPERAntySpyware after some work.
2. Perform system cleaning with different anti-malware tools (Spyware Doctor, Spybot SD, SUPERAntySpyware, SpyEraser, even Windows Defender up-to-date, and CCleaner). System looks clean at this moment, according to all malware products I mentioned above.
3. At home, without any "pro" firewall (only Windows Firewall activated on my laptop), Yahoo Home page is never opened, and Google search does not work at all (it's a continuous load of the page(s)). It's the same behaviour with both IE7 and Mozilla Firefox.
Home desktop works normally, thus I think the issue is not related to Internet connection.

Question: Strange Behaviour

Good Day,

Two days ago, all my flashplayer windows started asking me if I would allow them to store information on my computer. Whatever video or game was active would not play unless I went into the flashplayer settings and set it to allow. The small request popup will not close no matter how many times I click on allow or deny. It will only close if I go into the flashplayer settings and allow it to store information.

Also, this morning, I was playing an mmorpg and then my screen went into a weird graphics loop. My desktop would flash then the game would flash then the screen would go black and it kept continuing in a loop until I forced my laptop to shut down. I was unable to click on anything while this was happening.

Hopefully, there is no infection present and I am just experiencing some weird, coincidental glitches, but I am posting here, just in case.

Thank you in advance for any help that you may provide.

Answer:Strange Behaviour

I am not finding any malware in your logs. I suggest you post in the software forum for further assistance.

Since you are not having any malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Question: Strange behaviour!

I have Win XP SP3. From 5 days, there is unknown thing is happening in my PC. Files in my PC shows it's extension in the name of that file.

Like Notepad file name is "New Text Document.txt"
MKV movie name is "Salt.mkv"
This happens with MS Office files, mp3, video, images etc.

I think there is something wrong in my PC. Help me.

Answer:Strange behaviour!

It's nothing bad, you can of course change that.
Open a directory you want, can be C:\Program Files f.e. but not C:\!
Then navigate (I am currently using polish version so I need to translate things; it may make a little difference):
- "Tools" from top menu
- "Folders options" or something similar
- "View" tab
and there you can change if extensions are showed or not.

I'm doing a reinstall on an MSI X79A-GD45 (8d) with 32GB Ram, i7-3820, 2x nVidia GTX-560Ti and a single WDC WD6001FZWX-00A2VA0

Trying to reinstall windows 7 SP1 x64. The install all goes through as expected. Within minutes the system slows to a crawl or hangs entirely. If I manage to open 'My Computer' I can see that my C: is showing up without disk space information below it. If I wait about 5 minutes or so it will then show the drive as about 90% full. Every time I refresh the page, the free space increases until eventually it gets back to normal. At this point the computer starts behaving normally again, but not for long.
I can't get it to behave normally for long enough to get drivers installed or anything. The system was running perfectly on Windows 10 and I have no problems with the drive in Linux. This system previously ran Windows 7 perfectly well, although at the time it had a 3TB drive.

Question: Strange Behaviour

I have a home-built PC that has been running ffor some time now quite well. However, a few months ago after performing a routine disk clean-up and defragment the OS failed to start. The only way to fix this is to do a system restore via the start-up recovery part of the windows OS.

If it is of any significance, avast found a rootkit in the C drive under Xaramin's software directory, under the name dynDNS.exe (I think but not sure, definitely had DNS in the name!). Could it be an infection causing this? Disk check was supposed to be launched during boot but I have seen no evidence of it happening.

The full PC details are below:
- AMD 8350 CPU
- Gigabyte 7950 Radion HD graphics card
- 16GB RAM dual channel at 1866mhz
- Asus m5a99x motherboard
- OCZ vertex 3 120GB SSD
- Western Digital Green hard drive
- Generaic CD drive
- Windows 7 Pro 64-bit (virtualisation enabled via hotfix for bulldozer CPU's)

Any ideas of why this could be happening? Also is any more information needed?

Thanks guys!

Answer:Strange Behaviour

You didn't defrag your SSD, right?

Otherwise, it may be a good idea to visit the malware forums and get your rootkit cleaned up.

Hello.

I am using UK's BT Broadband, and it wasnt' working very well till last days, but it was ok, now it changed into a nightmare.

1. My router stats:

Annex Mode: ANNEX_A
Startup Attempts: 1
Max Tx Power: -38 dBm/Hz
CO Vendor: TEXAS_INSTRUMENTS

Loss of Signal 0 0
Loss of Frame 0 0
CRC Errors 5282 68 <---- What's this?
Data Rate 576 288 kbps
Latency FAST FAST

I had this kind of stats for months, but it wasn't working very bad, it was dropping connection couple of times a day, it was annoying but I could live with it. Up to a certain limit.... What might be the reason for this? I have conexant router and I've heard it's not very good, should I change it?

2. It all went worse yesterday
I didn't change any settings, didn't install any new hardware or soft, but now transfer rate is at 5kb/s. I checked for viruses with Avast (result: PC was clean), I checked for rootkits with BlackLight (result: PC was clean) I am also checking it with Windows Defender atm (nothing so far). I use Windows Firewall. Pings are slow, 1000ms to most popular sites on average.

After I turn the router off for 30 seconds and turn it back on, connection is good for 1-3 minutes, then it goes slow again... Read more

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to learn c++ from a book and was trying one of the 'simple' exercises to find the first 100 prime numbers using a function which tests whether one number is a multiple of another. As you'll see there's a cout << "anything" << endl; line that's been commented out. If I remove the comment marks and allow this line to become part of the code, the program works (except for the lots of lines saying "anything" between the prime numbers). However if I remove or comment out this line, I get the error message from the multiple function "bad parameters".
Why on earth does this cout line make any difference?!

#include <iostream.h>
#include <math.h>

// Declare function multiple
int Multiple(const int&, const int&);

int main(void)
{
// Prime number = number divisible only by itself and 1.
int i=0, Check, Prime=1, Integer1=1, Integer2;

while(i <= 5)
{
for(Integer2 = 1; (Integer2 <= Integer1); Integer2++)
{
Check = Multiple(Integer1, Integer2);
// cout << "anything" << endl;
if(Check == 1)
{
if((Integer1 != Integer2) && (Integer2 !=1))
{
Prime = 0;
}
}
}
if(Prime ==1)

cout << Integer1 << " is a prime number!" << endl;
i++;

Dear BC,

I am actually unsure this is a virus or similar but I am also unsure where to post my problem so here it goes:

I have browsed this forum a bit before posting and found a topic that looks similar albeit not 100% the same as mine, here:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic453600.html

In my case IE9 has recently started to behave strangely in similar ways:

- Sometimes when I start typing in a new field in a webpage the cursor suddenly jumps up to the address box and the box starts to flicker rapidly and cant do anythng else. The only way I have found to stop the flickering is to press the Tab key.
- Other times when I start typing the page simply changes to the home page. Also the adress field starts flickering and I need to press tab to stop it.
- This events tend to happen on average every 15-20 minutes or so, although it seems quite random.

Note: I believe I do not need to attach a "Ark.txt" since I am running Windows 7 64b

Any help appreciated!

I am getting some very odd reactions from Internet Explorer in that when I browse various sites the information shown in the browser is often out of date, for example, on a message board it might show seven posts and then when I click on the 'refresh' button it will show the actual amount of 12. This doesn't only happen on the first visit to the site, if I leave and return straight away ,it does it again. Just recently every time I change sites I am getting a message saying: "this site doesn't have a security certificate etc" and the site won't load until I click "continue anyway" - maybe there is no connection between the two things, it just seems to have started since this browser information problem.

I have run all the usual security checks: AVG, Spybot, Microsoft AntiSpy, etc.

I have also cleared the browser of cookies and temp files.

If I go to the same sites with another browser there is no problem.

There is something anti in the browser because when I try to use my email account it shows message panels saying "can't continue due to xyz", these panels carry adverts and are nothing to do with the email providers - I have checked with them. If I use another browser such as Firefox or Opera there is no problem.

Apart from this, everything is working very well - I did get hacked and this brought windows to a standstill, but with help from this site I have got things running good again, well 95% ...just this browser to sort out.

Now after I removed the stick my computer started to use it's dual core procesor at 100% even when I'm not working on it, also I noticed from time to time a lot's of svchost proceses appear in the task manager.

Ok, please bear with me as I'm not very 'tech'

I have 3 identities in OE. When I want to switch identites, say, go from A to B I click on B and then OK. I'm then asked if I want to keep the internet connection for the next identity and I click YES. Then, I'm prompted to choose an identity because
"There is no current identity.
Select your identity name below. To add or modify an identity, click Manage Identities"Very irritating to be asked twice every time so to avoid this, I thought I would go to Manage Identites and click Use this Identity (I chose A) when starting a program. When the window re-opens, it's back at A and not B.
I don't understand.
I am running XP and have OE 6.

I have three media player programs - Zoom Pro, WMP 11, and Power DVD. I have DVD Region Free as well to ensure I can play DVDs from all regions.
I bought a DVD which arrived during the week. Zoom and WMP both rejected it with the message that it could not be played in this region. Power DVD accepts it however and plays it without hassles. It's a Region 1 disc, by the way.
I've got DVDs from all over the world and I don't recall seeing any cause this sort of a problem. Has anyone got an idea why it might be happening?

Hi,

I am at a loss here i would be grateful for any help. I'll set the scene.
XP Sp2 slipstream
Asrock 1333 mainboard core 2 duo & 8800gts 2gb ram.
Fully updated windows and drivers. Scanned with uptodate avg and spybot.

The problem is hard to describe after a while of using ie, msn, wmp or office etc. Strange things happen as in the pictures. Then by closing say ie, msn the program goes away whilst this problem is manifesting i cant- Use crtl alt del it just gives the system error beep, right click on the task bar, start new tabs in ie. Its hard to get examples of the problem as the computer is so unuseable when it happens eg i cant start a screen grabber as they tend not to work. Starting programs like paint equally makes the windows error sound. Basically anything that uses the windows gui breaks. Anyway here are some pics. I'm sure i've had this happen before and i fixed it but now i've forgotten what i did!

First let's check and make sure that your Windows files arn't corrupt. Insert your XP CD into the drive and go to RUN. Then type "sfc /scannow" w/o quotes. Then let it do its thing. This will replace any corrupt windows files with good ones off the CD.

Welcome

Sevral things you can try. You can repair corrupted files. Go to search type cmd, then right click and run as administrator. In the cmd prompt, type sfc /scannow.

If that does not work, you can try a repair install

Question: Strange Behaviour

Every morning my PC boots normally then freezes after about five minutes. I power it down completely then re-start it and it usually then operates correctly for the rest of the day.

Rarely there are BSODs with inconsistent messages - by which I mean that these are rarely the same,- "reference by pointer" being one.

I have cleaned the machine physically, re-seated components, checked for infections, updated drivers, run system file scans, reinstalled windows.. I'm beginning to think that there may be a motherboard issue but would welcome any thoughts.

Answer:Strange Behaviour

Please provide this information so we can provide a complete analysis (from the Pinned Topic at the top of the forum): Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions Please use Option 1 as it provides Event Viewer logs.

Also, to help with figuring out the freezes, Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog))
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

FYI - If we're looking for Event ID 41 errors (unexplained shutdowns), there's more info on that here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028504

While waiting for a reply, please monitor your temps with this free utility: HWMonitor CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

Finally, although this is experimental for me, you may want to try this report:

Press Win and R to open the Run dialog
Type in "perfmon" (without the quotes) and press "Enter"

In the left hand pane:
- expand "Data Collector Sets", then expand "System"

I am having difficulty with RDP and was hoping for some suggestions. I cannot login to RDP outside the network, only from inside the LAN. All addresses are port forwarded in the router. The machines that I am trying to connect to have Win 7 x64 Ultimate. Here is the scenario and what I have done to troubleshoot:

1) All computers have static ip addresses on the local area network.
2) I have used an online port check tool and the problem I am getting is that ports 3389 and 3390 (the ports I have designated as RDP listenting ports) are showing closed.

I know that the ports showing closed can be due to a few factors, so here are the tests that I ran:
1) I can log into RDP successfully from inside the LAN, so I assume that the problem is not with any type of software firewall configuration. These computers do all have Kaspersky Internet Security on them, but I have no problems connecting inside the netwok.
2) I thought that the router wasn't properly forwarding port addresses so I took the router to another location (Different ISP) and found that RDP works just fine there.
3) Now I'm wondering if the ISP is blocking the port ranges so I took a laptop back to the original location and it works just fine so I know that its not an ISP issue. The only difference I can note is that the laptop (computer that RDP works on), is a 32bit Win 7 Ultimate machine and the other two are x64. Aside from that, all software and internet security settings are the same.

Any tho... Read more

Answer:Strange RDP Behaviour

Since your testing methodology is solid and you’re certain that you have 3389 - 3390 open on the router, it may be difficult to get any help with this. I know it’s a long stretch but I guess I’d go to Kaspersky support hoping that their 64bit implementation of the firewall is different from the 32 bit and they have found others experiencing the same issue.
Maybe completely uninstalling Kaspersky on one on the 64bit machines and testing again is good option.

Please post back when you find the solution.

I'm running IE7 on Vista 64-bit. It is definitely set as my default
browser.

As of a couple of days ago, URLs will not longer work outside of the
browser.

If I type a URL directly into the Start Menu's "Run" box I am told
that:
"This file does not have a program associated with it for
performing this action. Create an association in the Set Association
control panel". If I click on a link within Windows Live Mail, the
same thing happens.

The problem manifests itself slightly differently within Outlook 2007.
I get prompted to choose the program I want to use to open the link.
Naturally I choose IE and ensure that the "always use this program"
box is checked. However, the next time I click a link within an email,
the same thing happens.

If I set Firefox as my default program, everything works perfectly,
but I only want to use that browser as an exception, not as my normal
browser. I tried uninstalling it to see if it would help, but it
didn't. I also tried installing IE 8 beta 2 to see if that would clear the problem. It didn't.

Any and all suggestions gratefully received.

Answer:Very strange IE7 behaviour

my internet explorer (IE 7) is coming up with "there is not enough free memory to run this program, quit one or more programs and try again" and "windows cannot access the specified device, path or file you may not have the appropriate permissions to access this item"....

- what does this mean????? Also the CPU is freaking out, its always at 100% when IE7 is running and cannot have any other programs running otherwise the typing takes ages to do (supprisingly its quite fast now, but im really fed up of my IE slowing my pc down and the pc being slow in general. I have run anti-virus and anti spyware programs and it says that my system is clean. I was worried I had a key logger but when i scanned my system I did not. :) its very strange...!!!!

Also it's saying I dont have full permissions - but I am the admin on my laptop and should have full permissions?!

Any and ALL suggestions would be very gratefully received right now! am ready to put the laptop in the bin and buy a new one!!!!!!! :@

Hiya

Just to be safe, I would do a quick virus scan:

http://housecall.antivirus.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

Also, go here and get SpyBot:

http://security.kolla.de/index.php?l...&page=download

click the online tab to search for and download the updates, then shut down and relaunch SpyBot.

Go to the Settings tab > File Sets, and uncheck 'System Internals' and 'Tracks' .
These aren't needed for our present purpose, and you can always experiment with them later on.

Finally, after closing down Internet Explorer, click 'Check for problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds 'Fix selected problems'

you may have to run spybot more than once to clear everything

Remove everything pre-ticked in Red

I was testing my application on IE.
It works fine on IE 7.0 but not with IE 6.0.
The problem is a little javascript enebled when we select another page of a Datagrid... It extracts a lot of data so the Datagrid "AllowPaging" of Visual Studio is "true".
Now when we try to change page with IE 6.0 it didn't return error but only a blank page.. Afterwards I installed mozilla as preferred Browser. I try my application and it worked... So I disinstalled it and tried again. Now it work also with IE 6.0. What's happened?

A friend of mine has been having probelms with his PC.

AMD 64 3000 Socket 939
512MB memory
nVidia 6600GT
XP SP3 all up to date.
Norton 360

It started when he tried to run Disk Defragmenter and got a message to the effect 'Unreadable Security Data Stream".

I ran CHKDSK and the same message came up but Windows was unable to repair it.

As this did not bode well and thinking I was dealing with a software problem the data was backed up and as the installation was about three years old i was set about doing a re-install. As a side issue partioning the disk was also unsuccesful.

First thing was the installation would not even start the formatting process. So I tried to run Spinright on it. Spinrite is a bootable drive analysis and repair utility. Some people think its great, others dont like it but thats beside the point. Spintite did not get past the first block and went straight into diagnostic recovery mode and then did nothing. I have used this on dozens of occasions and never seen this before. I was pretty sure the hard drive was heading for bin.

As a final check I took the drive out and stuck it in one of my desktops and ran Spinrite again. Exactly the same result.

I looked at one of the screens that shows the raw data being processed. Again this would be the first block This stuff should flick across the screen like something out of the Matrix. See 1st pic.

What I actually got was in the section the raw data should have been processed was a blank screen ... Read more

Dear Members,

my PC has Windows 7 and Bit Defender installed. Since few weeks when I switch it on I am presented with a screen where I have to choose which OS I want to manually boot (actually there only W7). After that, when I log in as a User I notice that Bit Defender is always switched off.

If I try to run Bit Defender in Rescue Mode at the start up I always get this message: "btd-LD01 not found". Furthermore my PC has become extremely slow.

I suspect I have been infected but Bit Defender cannot find anything but using TDSSKiller of Kaspersky I get 8 suspicious files that I did not dare to delete before getting to know exactly what is going on.

Any clue?

Hello Mikkihiiri -
Please list those 8 suspicious files that TDSS finds in the scans.

If you do not have them saved from the scans, then re-run the scan and post them.

I can find no links to ""btd-LD01 not foundbtd-LD01 not found"" so they may be your problem

Question: Strange behaviour

Yesterday i had a strange glitch with the PC i was playing a game and it just froze, nothing i did could get me out of it i tried everything but to no avail so i held the re-start button down untill it shut off.
When i restarted it would not boot so i pressed re-start once again and all was OK, now at first i thought the GPU had overheated but mine has always run hot around 85 and never had this before.
The rest of the day went OK with no problems, I shut down at night in the approved fashion and forgot about it.
This morning i fired up and i saw the motherboard screen as normal then it started to boot but just stopped with just a small whit square at the top left of the black screen blinking as though it needed time to think so i left it alon for a while but it went no further.
I re-booted and got just the same so on the next re-boot i went into the bios, my PC has always been set to boot from the CD/DVD drive and if it's empty got to the HDD so i changed to boot from the HDD first but still no success, i then re-booted but went via F8 and used "last known good configuration" it then booted OK and has run perfectly all day.

Anyone got an idea what that is ??
thanks

Question: Strange Behaviour

My desktop PC is behaving a little strangely over the last few days.It is a self built machine running 5 operating systems managed by BootIt BM. I have Win XP Pro, Win7 Ultimate 32 & 64 bit, Ubuntu and Win 8 Enterprise trial. The problem I an having is with the Win 7 installations. It started with Google Toolbar becoming invisible. It is installed and enabled but all you can see is a grey line with an X at the left hand end. No icons, search box or wrench icon are visible. I just thought this was a problem with IE as I had fairly recently installed IE10. My day to day OS is Win 7 64 bit and this is where I first noticed the problem. I searched for problems relating to toolbar and Win 7 64, founfd some bits but nothing I tried changed anything. The other noticeable thing was that whenever toolbar dissapeared the browser would become unstable and would throw up Script errors, particularly when trying to launch another web page. IE itself would often also freeze.

I am running Bitdefender TS 2013, scans from which showed nothing. I have also scanned with Malwarebytes, Spybot and Superantispyware, none of which revealed anything other than the usual cookie reports. I also did a rootkit scan with spybot but it didn't show up anything that I thought was significant.

The only other thing that makes me think it might be some sort of virus or malware is it wont allow me to download certain things, such as Superantispyware. I had to download the portable version v... Read more

Answer:Strange behaviour from AVG

As far as i can see, there may be several problems/solutions:
1. Go to task scheduler, should be located in accesories. See if AVG is scheduled to do anything in that.
2. It may be one of the many bugs of the new AVG. If it is this, the only thing you can do is go to option 4 until grisoft fix it.
3. Go to MSConfig via Run, msconfig. Untick AVG if it is in the Startup Tab and/or the Services tab.
4. Uninstall AVG and use a different AV, such as avast or avira.

Question: Strange behaviour

Hello everyone.

Every once in awhile the computer starts freezing up and I can not do things such as open task manager or close window, programs will stop responding and then I will be unable to do anything except move the mouse because explorer shuts down and I can not start it again. Or it will begin doing it and I will restart but when I do it hangs at the windows logo when booting and will not start in safe mode or boot off the system repair disc. It will either just hang at a windows logo when I try to boot from the disc or load but when I click repair computer it hangs again and never loads the repair segment. I am pretty much stuck until I turn it off for about seven minutes then turn it back on and then it will allow me to get into system repair, perform a system restore and ect.

Any ideas on what is doing this? A virus maybe? A bad install of windows? Ram? I need some help narrowing this done and getting it solved before it does some damage.
I run:

Acer Dual core
3GB Of ram
Windows 7
Nvidia graphics card.
(I apologies for the lack of computer spec details. I would check exactly what my specifcs were if the computer was not in the process of being turned off so I could system restore it...)
Any help you can give would be much appreciated.

Question: Strange Behaviour

Hey all,

Recently my pc has been acting a bit odd.

Sometimes, any explorer windows i have open act strangely, the menu bar vanishes and is either completely gone or is covered by the streched windows logo that is usually on the right corner of a explorer window, also when it starts acting weird, i cant open any programs, i just hear the error sound with no messages, ive done the usualy virus scans (Avast) and malware scans (Malwarebytes Anti-malware) and they've come up clean, also im unable to load new pages in Firefox they just come up blank (ff was running before the strange behavior) and my right click context menus mess up, sometimes i cant right click at all.

Could this problem be a RAM issue? or a DEP issue?

im running on Windows XP Pro SP3 x86

Thanks.

Hi there

I have a Lenova T61 notebook with Vista OS.

Recently Firefox's desktop icon changed to an unbranded (plain) icon; like that of a file icon without a .extension. I cannot associate a particular or deliberate change to system or Firefox settings that may have contributed. And when I double click on the icon to open, I get the message: 'Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

So I tried a system restore to roll back to earlier system settings. The system hung during restore - so I over-rode a shut down after waiting and waiting. When booting up again, a Windows message said something like system restore did not complete, would you like to complete now - I selected yes - restore process ran through to presumed successful completion - so I then did a reboot - the message was there again so I presume was not successful - and the Firefox icon was still 'plain' and would not open.

I then opened Uninstall Programs widget from within Control Panel - when clicking on Firefox to initiate uninstall, nothing happens. So I went direct to Firefox's program folders area and clicked directly on the uninstall exe and nothing happens.

So I download and install Firefox 5.01, supposedly successfully, and same scenario with its desktop icon and program uninstall from Control Panel and FF program folders.

I opened into Safe Mode and FF icon displays and opens fine.

I switch off AVG Guard... Read more

The memory decrease message means that you have a bad stick of RAM. That bad stick of RAM is most likely responsible for the weird desktop behavior.

OK so I cloned my hdd using EaseUS. I cloned Win 7 pro on a seagate 500gb hdd to a WD 2tb Hdd.
The clne went fine. So next I detached the 500gb and connected the 2tb hdd with the fresh clone. Everything booted OK and I can run my program's as normal. However there are some things not functioning. If you do a search, Windows will only search program folders from the start button. If you click on search elsewhere, nothing happens, no explorer page opens. Windows update doesn't work, if you open up indexing options there is no indexing folder. Usually it says something like programData/Microsoft/search. You can't rebuild the index, you can't turn indexing on. Not that I want it on, and also troubleshooter will not start reporting a fault saying restricted. So even though it's an exact clone, it's conflicted somehow.

Any help appreciated.

Yeah right, clones can be iffy. I had similar experiences although other people seem to happy with their clones.

I prefer to transfer the OS via an image. That always worked and never gave me a problem. I use free Macrium.

After resuming from STANDBY, my NEC ND-3500AG USB DVD drive has a problem which I have difficulty in defining. The symptom of the problem is that if I invoke Windows Explorer (again, after having resumed from STANDBY), Explorer just sits there, refusing to show anything in the right window, until I power the drive off, or I insert a disc in the drive. Either action will get things going normally.

I'm pretty sure that the problem is related to the presence of Roxio's Drag-to-Disc on my system, so I'm not really going to ask how to merely solve the problem. Rather, I'm asking for help with the following:

I've managed to "solve" the problem by "manipulating" the infamous "LowerFilters" Registry entry (I have no UpperFilters). I thought that if this entry was deleted, it would be rebuilt when rebooting. However, this does not happen. Can anybody tell me what causes LowerFilters to be rebuilt?

More specifically, what I've had to do is this: delete the LowerFilters entry, install some application (DVD43) that adds its own value to LowerFilters, reboot, and then set LowerFilters to its original value. Now the problem after STANDBY is gone - for awhile. Unfortunately, it comes back, and I'm not sure if it comes back after a single reboot, several reboots, or after I run some undetermined application.

Any ideas as to what I should be looking at would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Your problems may not be due to malware. The below procedure will help us determine that. What AVG reported is just a file in System Restore which can easily be fixed later when we toggle system restore off/on after we have cleaned your PC of any real malware.

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.

Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run theREAD & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can run steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

These things have happened and all started at the same time in Win 8.1:

Pages randomly scrolls up, first few lines, then two seconds break and then more and then all the way up. This happens mostly on Reddit. This does NOT happen in my PC folders and notepad.

This is hard to explain but when typing a comment on Reddit or another forum letters 'e' 'g' and 'h' makes the cursor jump in the beginning of the post and types the said letter there. Skype does this too. It also start to scroll page up and down fast if I keep the key pushed down. This does NOT happen in notepad. I typed this message on notepad and copy-pasted from there 'cos it's impossible to type in here due the cursor jumping. In notepad everything works fine.

I click folder on my desktop it sometimes opens completely other folder, miss clicks out of question 'cos folders lay opposite side of the desktop.
When I use the function to zoom web pages larger with ctrl and + it travels through all the open tabs very fastly and makes all them larger.

Sleep mode stopped working. I put machine to sleep it put itself back on in two seconds.

Reasons can't be wireless mouse or remote keyboard 'cos it does weird thing with them unplugged too when I use laptop 'normally'. I have ran Avast, Bitdefender, MBAM, Superantispyware, ADW-cleaner, CCleaner. No threats. Laptop is completely unusable now.

Hi there, I sure hope someone can help because i'm super lost ><

Right, the problem... last night my firefox froze, I couldn't do anything but force restart my PC. The first few restart attempts were loading my desktop background but not windows. I had to shutdown completely in order to get windows back. I then noticed everything was very very slow. I checked my processes and noticed 'Services.exe' which i have not noticed before, and it was quite high up in the list when i ordered by memory use. I then googled this and saw it could be a possible virus, so I tried to find a virus scanner to check. That's when i noticed that there was also some starnge google redirect thing. But only when i search for anything to do with a virus it seems. Any helpful page just redirects to an advert or something random. However it seems you can get around this by typing the address in the bar. Then I noticed that some webpages just refuse to load... I mean, they load, but the whole page is just lines and lines of characters and symbols. Then I also had the XP Home security 2012 virus popping up trying to scan... argh. So, eventually I got AVG installed and it found a few things and removed them. This only seems to have got rid of the XP Home Security 2012 virus though, all other weirdness remains. It's as though i've gotten one virus that's letting in everything else. Also trying to shut down or restart is strange, I have to click it a few times or something just cold turn it off, and t... Why did you uninstall AVG?

One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan/rootkit.

This type of infection allows hackers to remotely control your computer, log keystrokes, steal critical system information, and download and execute files without your knowledge.

If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Please refer to Microsoft's Online Safety article for tips on creating a strong password.

Do not change passwords or do any transactions from the infected computer until it has been cleaned.

------------------------------------------------------

Please note that these fixes are not instantaneous. Most infections require more than one round to properly eradicate.

Please stay with me until given the 'all clear' even if symptoms seemingly abate.

Hello there, wise ones!

Few days ago I noticed that the taskbar begun to act strangely. Well, the main problem is that taskbar do not bring up active windows to front, or from minimazed state. All in all, I can bring active windows to front, but it takes me two or three, or sometimes even more, clicks to do it. Sometimes everything works as if it is supposed to work, you hit the window buton in taskbar - the taskbar brings it to front, or up from minimazed state, but in my case, randomly, the taskbar marks window button as if it is active, and nothing more, it remains such, when that happens I only hear "Default Beep" sound (and as far as I've noticed, this problem occurs only when I try to switch mozilla firefox windows). Here is an example of how it looks:

Of course, the very problem is greatly annoying, taking in consideration how often you use taskbar to switch different windows. Tried to surf internet for solutions, but haven't found anything defined. In various forums there were only people with the same problem, and unique, individual solutions.

Maybe someone of you have faced something similar? Maybe you have any thoughts, ideas for sulutions? Everything is acceptable, because the problem is really killing me.

Thanks!

Problems began with being directed to incorrect web pages usually advertising some thing. This happend when selecting a web page from my favouites or even when doing a Google search then trying to open from the results. IE 6 would then not connect to the internet at all. Google Chrome installed and worked but then also started doing some strange things and opening the wrong web sites. My computer eventually crashed and would not reboot. I was looped straight back to the restart and boot menu regardless which boot option was selected, normal, safe mode, last known, command prompt etc. A repair of XP got me up and running again, but I am not convinced that the problem are all solved as there are numerous red entries in the start up when I do an online automatic Hijackthis analysis. I have not changed or deleted any of the entries from the automatic analysis. I will now paste the DDS repot and attach the other file. I was unable to do a root repeal scan as the programme froze my computer. I left it running for over one hour, tried twice, and got the same result.Hope you can help.RaymondDDS (Ver_09-12-01.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Raymond at 16:23:13.29 on 16/01/2010Internet Explorer: 7.0.5730.13Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.1033.18.958.574 [GMT 0:00]AV: avast! antivirus 4.8.1368 [VPS 100116-0] *On-access scanning enabled* (Updated) {7591DB91-41F0-48A3-B128-1A293FD8233D}============== Running Processes ===============C:\WINDOWS\system32&#... I changed my Windows signin to a 4 digit login, which works fine....

today i I noticed there were two signin options for my user account , exactly the same name, plus one other I have for a family member.
i chose one of ' my' accounts and it asked for a password, I tried the one I previously I used which was rejected....I then chose to reset my password...eneyer ed my four digit pin, then my Windows email password, then got a phone call with a verification number to enter, then was presented with a screen to create a new password, only problem was it also asked for my old one, which I didn't know, which was the whole reason I went through the procedure....

i then hen chose the ' other' signin and was able to enter my four digit number.....

so so all is ' sort of' OK but can't see this 2nd account of mine in control panel users.....so want to just have one the one requiring the four digit number...

any help please

thanks

Hi,

I am having an intermittent strange scroll behaviour. Suddenly the window (e.g. IE window) will scroll to the bottom and keep doing this regardless of me moving the scroll to the top.

In frustration I re-installed windows xp and it is up to date with SP3 and still it happens this intermittent but annoying.

I am on a Fujitsu-Siemens laptop AMD 64 Athalon, ATI Radeon 9700 with 1GB memory. I have had this laptop for nearly 4 years and it has been fine so far - I hope it is not dying. Anyone else had similar problems?

PC is virus / spyware free. I run ZoneAlarm and Grisfot AVG.

Any suggestions what could be causing this? Thanks - Dev

Try updating your touchpad drivers or disabling it if you use a mouse.

Any chance your touchpad has a scroll function which is "stuck"?
