Re: Tecra A11 - Cannot update latest BIOS

Question: Re: Tecra A11 - Cannot update latest BIOS

I'm reinstalling my operating system and would like update the whole laptop, but I cannot update my BIOS. I downloaded the latest release (B2.90-WIN-EC1.90) but it keeps telling me that this computer is not supported. What can I do?

I used the notebook detection tool on the website and 'm currently using Windows 7 Pro x86 with BIOS v2.30.

Preferred Solution: Re: Tecra A11 - Cannot update latest BIOS

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Re: Tecra A11 - Cannot update latest BIOS

Thread can be closed, I solved the problem by installing the Value Added Package. Which enabled the BIOS setup to execute.

I am trying to upgrade the current bios (v1.60) to the latest (v2.10) I downloaded P0054v210.exe but when I try to run it I get the error 'BIOS update is not supported OS....' I have tried XP compatible mode but still no luck. I don't want to have to reinstall XP if possible.

I read elsewhere that installing the Value Added Pack would work but it was already installed. I have now unistalled the VAP and installed it again with no errors reported. Still can't run P0054V210.exe.

However, when I try to run HW Setup from the Toshiba Utilities folder on the Start menu I get "HCI Load Error!!" followed by "SCI Load Error!!" but it then puts up a Setup dialoge box with "General" tab with details of the current Bios version. I have uninstalled and re-installed twice and still get the same problem.

Is this a hardware problem?

Why you try updating the BIOS?

I have a Tecra A3X (product number PTA3XE-00NUB4) and I am looking for the latest bios upgrade.

On the worldwide support site there are some upgrades from v1.4 up to the v2.70 revision (for S2/A3 series : ts2_a3v27.exe) but when I try to use it it complains about unsupported hardware and does not upgrade (I have tried the direct upgrade from WinXP and the burning cd methods).

On the french support site there is only a 1.4 revision that is the only one that worked till now.

My laptop was bought in Luxemburg, is the A3X model a different device from the one mentioned on the worldwide support ?

Thanks for any help...

Answer:Need latest BIOS for a Tecra A3X

Don?t know what website you mean saying ?worldwide support site? but the Tecra A3X is definitely an European notebook model and you should use the Toshiba European drive page for the driver and the BIOS download.

I mean this page: -> Support & Download -> Download Drivers

There is only a one BIOS v1.40-WIN.
Therefore if you want to update the BIOS you should use this one.

How do I install the latest BIOS P000Bv160 on a M2. the instructions on the toshiba BIOS install say to use a floppy disk but the file size is 1.48MB so will not fit on a 1.44MB floppy. can I use a usb stick?

Answer:How to install latest BIOS on Tecra M2

Are you sure you have read the right instruction?

As far as I know this is a BIOS win-version (windows version) and not a TRAD version (traditional) Therefore the BIOS update must be performed from the running OS.

There should be a exe file which must be executed to start the BIOS update!!!

Please check the instruction again!!!

Hi, I wonder if someone can point me towards the latest S1 bios. The reason I ask is that I have a bios loaded, which is the 30/03/2005 ver 2.50 but when I try and get the latest from the Tosiba site dated 09/07/07 it just downloads the same old bios? Is there a later one or not?

Many Thanks, Theo

Answer:Tecra S1 - whats the latest bios?

The latest BIOS seem to be 2.50-win.
The BIOS seems to be uploaded at 09/07/07?
I don?t wonder that since 09/07/07 has not been updated?. The Tecra S1 belongs to one of the older series and I doubt that newer BIOS version would be published in the future?

Hello All,

I just received a Toshiba Tecra A11 the other day which is out of warranty (Refurb). When I got the laptop there was an issue where the picture was displayed at 1024x768 and off centre (In BIOS). The image was 1-2cm off screen to the left, with about 5-6cm black space to the right of the picture, the bottom 2-3 cm's of the picture were also off the bottom of the screen.

I installed Ubuntu Studio initially and attempted to force the display to a widescreen resolution. I didn't have any luck, I also installed Win7 but still with the latest drivers I had no luck.

This was strange because BIOS was displayed the same way so naturally I decided to upgrade to the latest BIOS version. The BIOS on the laptop was quite old (End of 2009).
I downloaded the BIOS update from Toshiba's web site, and ran the update.

The new BIOS was installed and the machine rebooted.
However there was no picture displayed on the LCD panel, windows did successfully boot, if I connect an external monitor to the laptop I get picture. When starting the laptop the LCD backlight does light up.

My question is: What can I do to resolve this issue? Is there a BIOS recovery or downgrade tool available? Is it possible to reflash the bios? What is recommended?

Does this mean that everything is ok using external monitor?
Can you access the BIOS pressing F2 and can you set it to default settings?

Usually you can switch between external and internal display using the key combination FN + F5. Does it work?

Hey ppl's i am back x)

I got the same problem of some guy there... I can't install vista becose I need the 1.40 upgrade for Tecra S3 PTS30E-01K014FR.

Hmmm where can I found it on Toshiba site? I tryed download driver section by search with category but I dont found anything for the PTS30E-01K014FR I got only PTS30-C upgrades... so I dont found any file, yes again a files problem ^^.

Forgot to say I tryed the file called "bios-20080521143954" or in archive "P0031v320.exe" and he is not compatible with my model. <-downloaded on support and downloads section

Answer:Tecra S3 (PTS30E-01K014FR) - Where can I found my latest BIOS?

To be honest I don?t know what your problem is because I have checked the Toshiba website and there I can find a BIOS update for Tecra S3 PTS30E: => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers
Notebook => Tecra => Tecra S Series => Tecra S3 => PTS30E
Then select on driver type ?BIOS update?.

There I can find the version 3.20 and it seems that it?s compatible with all Windows version.

So I don?t know why you are searching for 1.40?

I have Acer Aspire 5750G. My current BIOS version is 1.07. The latest version is 1.12.

There are a few versions in between. Should I do incremental updates and reach 1.12 or should I just go direct to 1.12?

Many Thanks!

Answer:BIOS - Incremental updates to latest vrsn or direct update to latest?

Bios updates are cumulative, so you only need the latest.

You also don't need to update the bios unless there is a fix in it/them that fixes an issue you may be having. For the most part updating the bios is as easy as updating a driver, only if a bios update goes wrong you can't roll back to the old and you basically end up with a nice paperweight.

I have a old Tecra 9100 with years of good service, and this is my first problem, but is a great one, after a forced reboot the screen shows a BIOS block 1 damaged message. I have tried to repair the BIOS upgrading to the last version I have found, the 1.6 one, but its a Windows version (to upgrade from a running Toshiba computer I think) and when I try to run it in another computer to generate a FDD and upgrade BIOS, I cant, beacuse a Toshiba common modules message.

Its there any BIOS diskette image-archive I can dowload to perform the BIOS upgrade in the BIOS?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Tecra 9100 - BIOS block 1 damaged and how to update BIOS?

All you can find is stuff on Toshiba support page. I don't know where you live but try to contact nearest Toshiba authorized service provider.
They have access to Toshiba database and they can obtain all this for you. Make a call and ask for help. I am pretty sure they will help you to solve this BIOS issue.

Any ideas what might have happend there?

F2 should work to entry the BIOS on the Tecra M5.
You should press the F2 button immediately after unit starting.

I have a 2006 Tecra M4 and was checking it out for Vista compatability - it looks like thats a no-go at the moment (perhaps a whole other subject though, I have a 'windows vista compatible' sticker and its far from compatible as far as I can see)

However, it did prompt me to try and update the BIOS. According to the download page I can do this via windows rather than make a boot CD. The downloaded file has no .exe though. Am I looking in the wrong place? Is there a BIOS upgrade for an M4 with an .exe in it somewhere?

I have tried a search here and in support in general but I'm not seeing any answers that actually help with this. Updating from a CD makes me nervous so please help me find the file!

Answer:Bios update on an Tecra M4?

You are right. At the moment on the BIOS download page there is traditional BIOS update only. I don?t know how it will be for your Tecra but Vista prepared BIOS update will have version number 3.

Because of that I presume the right BIOS update will be available soon. Maybe together with other download stuff for Vista (drivers, tools and utilities).

Hi all,

I d/l and ran the 'windows' BIOS update for my model of Tecra A7. With power supply in, I watched the update go through all steps including BIOS backup, but at the final step 8 of writing to the BIOS, it looks like it hung. I waited over 2 hours and decide to reboot.
You guessed it, now I have absolutely nothing - no Toshiba screen, no BIOS, nothing.

Is there a way to reset the BIOS or bring back the backup? I don't have the recovery CD (work loaner laptop - no idea where the CD could be). I am making a request for DVD with Toshiba (if in fact it will help me?) but meanwhile any good techies out there? No floppy drive only CDROM.

I'm lookin at my board now, where's the battery? rock on bros.

Answer:Tecra A7 - After BIOS update it does nothing

First of all the Toshiba recovery disk will not help you. It can only restore the OS (Windows) and has nothing to do with the BIOS.

Furthermore in this case you can do nothing because need help from an authorized service provider. Only authorized technicians can try to reflash the ROM module. Here you can search for nearest: > Support & Downloads > Find an authorized service provider

Good luck! :)

Hi There!

I'm trying to update the BIOS on a Tecra A2 and am need of some help. I've downloaded the current version (1.40-WIN) and when extracting the zip file to copy to a floppy as per the instructions, the package extracts to 1.84MB! Obviously this will not fit on a floppy, so how do I perform the update?

According to the installation instructions this model is not upgradeable from Windows - though the version name does contain WIN (?)

Any help would be much appreciated.

Answer:BIOS update for Tecra A2

If you see WIN this means that this BIOS update can be done under running operating system only and it cannot be done with floppy. The version that can be done with floppy is TRAD.

Download the BIOS update and extract it on the desktop. Be sure the notebook is connected to the AC power supply and execute exe file. DO NOT INTERRUPT BIOS UPDATE!

I want to update the BIOS of my Tecra S11. The harddrive is encrypted with PGP Whole Disk Encryption. Is it safe to run the Toshiba BIOS update program without first decrypting the disk?

Thanks for your input,

Answer:Re: BIOS update on Tecra with PGP WDE

Only the most naive person would say "yes it is safe".
From years with computers, nothing is perfectly safe.

However, if You're not using a TPM for encrypting your data I would say it is safe enough. Even if the TPM was involved, I would be very surprised if it was in any way affected by an BIOS update.
At the same time if your data has any value - always back it up.

So to sum it up - if your not using a TPM for encrypting services I would say there should be very little risks involved.

But always always back up your valuable files. Regardless if your doing a BIOS update or not.

Tempro sends only a notification that a new file has been uploaded?
It?s not a recommendation that you have to update this!

I was wondering what's fixed in the new BIOS. Toshiba does not disclose any information about changes in updates (why? It's really a weird thing to do).

Does anybody know, what it does? It's the third update already, and still nothing.

Answer:Tecra S11 and BIOS update 2.20

It seems that such details about BIOS changes are not available on Toshiba European driver page.
I found some details about BIOS updates and improvements on Toshiba US driver page but Tecra S11 is not listed. Maybe because it was note released only in USA.

You could get in contact with a local ASP in order to get some information about changes in BIOS. Maybe the guys could provide some info? then you could share it with us?

Right... So here I am trying to perform miracles with a XFX/NVidia board again. I'm running out of hair to pull out, but I can't afford to get another one right now.

I'm sure the whole world knows that XFX and NVidia aren't buddies anymore, and I know that XFX skimped on the processor TDP ratings to 'save money', but I'm not sure if this problem is a faulty BIOS from XFX or if my chip is failing.. Anybody else still running this board? Perhaps someone can give a second opinion here...

Currently I'm running the v1.6 BIOS, the latest is v1.7. My PC doesn't have any problems with 1.6, I was just trying to see if I could get a Phenom II 740 BE to work on this board. The BIOS flashes without any problems, no errors or warnings or suspicious beeps.. But then the two-digit diagnostic LED on the board goes haywire with 1.7, with 1.6 it shows normal alpha-numeric codes, but on 1.7 the lines are completely mixed up and don't make any legible numbers or letters.

I must admit, other than that, I haven't found any problems.. My 740 BE still didn't work, but I'm not sure if that was also because of the BIOS or not. Has anybody else perhaps tried this BIOS yet...? If not, and you're comfortable with it, could you try it and see? I had no issues flashing back to 1.6 after trying 1.7, so you don't have to worry about being stuck on it if you don't like it...

Answer:XFX 750a SLI - Latest BIOS Update

I just flashed my motherboard (xfx 750a sli) to latest version 1.7 and I am having the same problems with the LED. I also think that my SATA devices have been disabled. Only my IDE drives are recognized. I created a support ticket on MOBO site but no response yet. I was wondering if you could send me the 1.6 ISO so I can reflash my system. Thanks.

Hello I would like to ask:I updated my BIOS last night to the latest version. I am on Windows 10, HP Envy x360. I updated it sucessfully and I am not facing any issues as of now. I wasn't facing one before I updated. Everything was going smoothly but I saw in the HP Support Assistant that I have numerous things to update so I clicked it all & updated. When the BIOS finished installing the computer restarted and I continued updating the others (which included the BIOS internal) but in the middle of the update, I stopped it. And it said it's not applicable anymore. I clicked to update again & the other 3 (there was 4 of them including the BIOS internal) updated succesfully. I even contacted support at that same night to let them do the manual update to give me a peace of mind. The technician said I updated it correctly. But what I read on everyp site on the internet that not to update the BIOS. So I am worrying & scared right now because my laptop might encounter problems that weren't there before the update. I am regretting my decision, I am not a techy person and I don't understand the computer world very well yet I decided to update without knowing first what it was. I am very scared of what might happen because of my carelessness. My questions are:1. Will updating the latest version of the BIOS without any problems in the hardware or anything (it was running smoothly, I just recently purchased it) harm the laptop or give problems to the laptop?2. Answer:Latest bios update help (dv6700)

Hi: Yes, F.34 is the latest BIOS version and if you have that installed, good. I am going to save you from having to strip your notebook for parts and tossing it in the trash if you try to flash the BIOS after you installed Windows 7. DON'T FLASH THE BIOS IF YOU HAVE INSTALLED WINDOWS 7. There will be a 100% chance of totally bricking your notebook if you do. Below is the link to the support and driver page for your specific notebook model. As long as the BIOS in your PC is at F.27 or newer, there is no reason that you can't install 4 GB of memory in your notebook right now. I have a dv6810us with the same hardware as yours and I am running W7 64 bit with 4 GB of memory (2 x 2GB of PC2-6400), and it works just fine. If you ever need to flash the BIOS (which you shouldn't ever need to), you will need to reinstall Vista, flash it, and reinstall W7.

Answer:Tecra M5 Bios update says it is illegal

HI Joe,

According to the Toshiba web-site the latest available BIOS for the Tecra M5 (model PTM50) is version 1.20, and for model PTM51 it is version 1.60. Both versions are dated 15 Sept. 2006 so are fairly recent.

It is unlikely that you will be able to use a BIOS from any other source since it will need to be specific for the model of notebook that you have.

By the way, both BIOS versions are available in Traditional and Windows formats.

Answer:Update Bios on Tecra 8000

Did you try to enter the BIOS?
Check it.
But usually after BIOS upgrade the notebook should works and boots properly.
Did you follow the instruction about the BIOS updating on the Toshiba page?
Possibly you have done something wrong and the motherboard was damage.

I own a Tecra M10-10Q (short model: PTMB1E)
I received a few days ago an automatic TEMPRO Alert from Toshiba informing of a new BIOS driver.

After downloading and extracting the .zip file, I launched the executable: P0065v190.exe
I was asked to confirm that I want to update BIOS from current version 1.50 to BIOS package version 1.90

When I click on "Yes", I have a popup window titled: "TOSHIBA BIOS Package version 3.2.9" !!
with among other cautions, the following statement:
"Turn BitLocker Drive Encryption of Windows Vista off before updating the BIOS"

A google search on what is the "BitLocker Drive Encryption" and how to turn it off, informs that it is located under "Security" in the Control Panel.
However, I didn't find anything like "BitLocker" when I click on "Security" in the Control Panel!!

So, I canceled the update procedure. But I'd like to keep my system uptodate!
What do you advise me to do? Where to find the BitLocker? How to proceed a such update of the BIOS?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Tecra M10 BIOS Update question

Windows Bit locker Drive Encryption is a data protection feature which is available ONLY in Windows Vista Enterprise, Windows Vista Ultimate and Windows Server 2008.

If you don?t have one of these Vista versions then a Bilocker is NOT available on your preinstalled system!

Regarding the BIOS update;
I follow always this advice; never change a running system; so if the notebook is running properly and trouble free an BIOS update is not necessary? that?s my personal opinion?

Uh Oh,

you will possibly have to give your machine to a service partner to let them fixing that problem, because it sounds like a serious problem. A customer of mine had a similar problem with a non-toshiba machine and it was a corrupted bios. I don?t know if it is in this case a corrupted bios, but it?s definetively a problem which has to be solved by a technician.

Hey everyone!

I have the following problem: I bought Tecra M9 PTM91E.

After year of succesful use of the laptop, something happened with my videocard or motherboard.
It was replaced in the warranty service, but after that the cooler began to work very loudly.
The said that it is because of the new BIOS version 2.0.
I have just cheked the last BIOS version on and have found that it is 1.9 for Tecra M9 PTM91E.

Can anyone comment that? Is there oficial higher version of BIOS than 1.9?
Should the cooler work more loudly after replacing motherboard and updating BIOS?

Thank you in advance,

Answer:Tecra M9 PTM91E - BIOS update 2.0?

That is strange. Maybe the wrong mainboard was installed or the wrong BIOS was flashed.

Does the fan change speed? Or is it the same speed all the time?

I bought a Tecra S5 notebook recently and yesterday I noticed an update of the BIOS in the Toshiba website.

I googled alot and also searched this forum and found a lot of threads about people having problems after updating (flashing) their BIOS. So I want to ask if the update is worth it, and if somebody owning a S5 has done it. Also could somebody tell me if there is a way to ensure you can roll back previous BIOS version after an update goes wrong?

The notebook is precious to me and since living in this financial crisis time means I won't be able to buy a new one if I screw this up I want to be sure. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I installed Vista 64 due to having 4 GB of RAM.

Answer:Tecra S5 - Is it worth to update the BIOS?

First of all a BIOS update is not necessary if your notebooks runs smoothly. Never touch a running system ;)
A BIOS update is only advisable if you have problem with it, for example not properly recognized RAM modules or so.

I only update the BIOS of my notebook if I have problems with it and that means I updated the BIOS on my Toshiba notebooks 3 times as yet. I?m not a Tecra S5 owner but I never had a problem with the BIOS updates. Some people who reported that the BIOS update failed did forget to read some instructions how to do that:
Before you start a BIOS update you should close all running programs and close all background processes that you don?t need. Also your antivirus and firewall should be disabled and must be logged in as administrator. Don?t forget to connect the AC/DC adaptor before you start it.
If you follow these tips normally the BIOS update should be done successfully.

A BIOS downgrade to an older version can only be done from anuthroized service provider. That means you can downgrade it yourself.
But newer versions are pretested from Toshiba and should not cause more problems as before. Newer BIOS versions fix problems.

I hope I could help you a little bit! :)

I have a Tecra M9 running only [Opensolaris 2009.06|] on it.
Is there any chance to make a Bios update (acutally I have 1.50)

Is there an ISO image or dos tools - so I can create my own ISO image...

Answer:Re: Tecra M9 bios update without windows

I doubt you would be able to update the BIOS running Opensolaris OS.

The Toshiba page provides only win-based BIOS and this means that you would need to install the Windows in order to update the BIOS.

The traditional BIOS version which would allow you to update the BIOS using the USB floppy disk is not available for download.

I think only the ASPs (authorized service providers) have availability to run a BIOS update using floppy disk.

My Hard Disk in Tecra S11 died, and I have purchased a new SSD.
Everything work OK, but I can not update BIOS any more. Update utility show an error:

Error: Preparing to update was failed.
You have not given permission to execute the update.

What to do? Please help.

Answer:Tecra S11 - After HDD replacement I can't update BIOS

> Error: Preparing to update was failed.
> You have not given permission to execute the update.

Do you have Admin rights?
Sounds like the issue could be related to missing privileges which are needed to run a update.

You could enable the admin account following these steps:
Choose command prompt (the black box cmd)
In the box type net user administrator /active:yes
Then log out. Usually an additional user account should be visible ?Administrator?.

Now log in using this account and try to execute the BIOS update.

Note: in many cases the VAP (value added package) is needed to run the update BIOS.
Be sure also, that package has been unzipped correctly before running the exe file.

I can not install my new Bios on this Tecra M3 PTM30E-09X01LEN system.
The message said: not supported.

I don t understand it.

Answer:Tecra M3 PTM30E - Cannot update the BIOS

First of all I want to ask you why you want to update the BIOS?
Do you have some issues with the notebook which could be solved by BIOS update?

Furthermore what BIOS did you use and where did you find and download it?

The Tecra M3 PTM30E seems to be a European model and the BIOS should be placed on the Toshiba European driver page.

I checked the page and there are two different BIOS versions;
The BIOS 1.20-WIN-VACF is only for models with the Virtual Angle Control Filter (VACF)
The BIOS 1.50-WIN is for models WITHOUT the Virtual Angle Control Filter (VACF)

Seems you used wrong BIOS!

I installed Windows 7 of an Tecra A9 Laptop and everything works fine except the sound. The sound card driver for Windows 7 is already installed. The Speakers as well as the microphone is detected. While playing music, under sound devices the green bar beneath the speakers raises up and down but I can not hear anything.

I read that the BIOS update may help but it do not work under Windows 7 or with a Windows XP Live CD or in Windows XP Mode for Windows 7.

I do not want to reinstall Windows XP.

Do anybody know how to get the sound working correctly?

Have you checked it with headphones?
Have you noticed the same?

To be honest I don't believe BIOS will change something about that. If the sound driver is installed properly check all sound settings in Windows and also in Realtek Audio Manager.

Hi again,

I have a question how to update BIOS on Windows 7 x64 ultimate. I downloaded newest version of BIOS for my laptop (Toshiba Tecra A8-185 PTA83E). After unzipping there is only .exe file.

When I try to run that file it says, that my OS is unsupported. When I run it in compability mode (with Vista or XP) it starts upgrading, but gives me an error: "BIOS upgrade is failure (8). BIOS is not able on that configuration." What should I do? I really need new BIOS.

Can I run it during boot from USB drive or whatsoever?

Answer:Tecra A8-185 - How to update BIOS on Windows 7?

Hi offi55

Why do you need a new BIOS? Can you notice some issues with the notebook or why do you try to update?

However, I think the update should only be done on preinstalled Windows version (XP or Vista). I assume this update wasn?t tested and designed for Windows 7 so I think this would be the reason why you can?t update it.

So install Windows from Toshiba recovery disk and try to update again. It should work.

Answer:Tecra A11 - Can't start BIOS update

Hi jspindler,

The question is why you want to update the BIOS? This update should only be done if it?s really necessary. Furthermore only the newest BIOS update can be downloaded because it fixes the most problems.

Anyway, you have to start the BIOS as administrator and you should unzip all files from zip-archive before you start it. Make also sure that Value Added Package is installed.

I have problems with updating the BIOS of my Tecra 9100. The current version is 1.5, and I want to update it to 1.6, so that the UJ-820 DVD-RAM will work.

I have tried to do with the windows tool within the Zip-File (error message: User does not have administrator privileges), and with bootdisk (error message: unknown chipset).

What can I do next?

Answer:Re: Cannot update BIOS from 1.5 to 1.6 on Tecra T 9100

You are right. On Toshiba support page there is 1.60 update available for old Tecra 9100. As I can see just one option is available ? WIN option. That means you must do it under running Windows. So the option with bootdisk cannot be done at all.

Start your Windows, download update (910078v160.exe) and extract it to the desktop. Close all running applications and execute exe file. That?s it!

Latest BIOS updated are always offered on official Toshiba support page so if you cannot find it there probably it doesn?t exist.

As far as I know Toshiba doesn?t offer any kind of Linux support so all offered stuff is for Windows. All offered BIOS updates are WIN versions so it can be started under running Windows OS and I don?t know how you can do it using Linux.

The Asus Update tool is the most disfunctional piece of crap i've ever come across and i've been to the Asus site and downloaded the updates ut dont know how to work them.

I havent got a clue how to do it.

Anyway, i've also had trouble determining my currrent BIOS version.

In my BIOS, it says...

Version: 08.00.09
Build Date: 08/03/04
ID: A0058002

It also says at the bottom...

V02.54 (C) Copyright 1985 - 2003, American Megatrends, Inc.

And in dxdiag window, it says...

BIOS: Rev2.00

Now for f*ck sake, what the bloody hell is that all about???

Anyway, could someone link me to the files I need to update my BIOS to the latest version and how?

Thanks in advance :slurp:

Answer:How do I update my K8V SE Deluxe BIOS to latest version???

not an answer but after this you'll feel better

I followed the complicated steps.

I'm pretty sure I had the right .rom file, And I'm pretty sure I did everything correctly.

Too bad that the system doesn't start at all...Oh the fans turn on. but screen stays blank.

Now I'm wondering is there anything more I can do...or should I just toss that mobo to trash...

Do-It-Yourself. Yay! :unch:

I have a Tecra M10-13L with Vista Business SP2 32bit installed.

I tried to update my BIOS from v1.6 to the currently available v3.0 by downloading "" from the support-page and unpacked "P0065v300.exe", dated 4.11.2009. When I run the programm, I always get the windows-message "install2 is not working" and the process is aborted.

In the folder C:\TOSHBIOS.UPD i found a install2.exe, dated 12.08.09 which seems is unpacked from the bios-update-file.
Any ideas how the update can be done?

I already loaded the BIOS-update file from diferent servers and tried several times, but its always the same problem.

Answer:BIOS Update on Tecra M10 - Install2 is not working

Why you want to update the BIOS?
Is there something wrong with the notebook?
BIOS should be updated only if you would have some problems. If notebook is running well, then I would not update this?

However, I found three BIOS v3.0 for Tecra M10

Try if one of the BIOS packages could be unzipped correctly and exe file could be executed.

Recently been given an M10-10I to reinstall the OS. WinXP wont install at all so am trying to update the BIOS as it seems quite old (V1.5). Latest (and only available) version for this machine appears to be V3.0. Download and attempt to run the file "P0065V300" and get the message:

TOSHIBA BIOS Package Ver.3.3.0
This computer is not supported

What can I do? Its supposed to be for this model!

Also would prefer a boot disk version but hey I can use a Windows version assuming it will run on Win7.

Answer:Tecra M10 - BIOS update says "This computer is not supported"

Tecra M10-10I belongs to the PTMB1E series and according to the Toshiba EU driver page, the BIOS v3.00-WIN is the latest BIOS version which is available for this model.

The BIOS update requires some additional Toshiba tools like VAP (value added package for Win 7)

If this driver isn?t installed, the BIOS update would not work.

Hi there

I have upgraded the BIOS of my Toshiba Tecra M11-107 and everything works fine except one thing. It doens?t appear the TOSHIBA logo from the BIOS anymore. I just can enter the BIOS pressing power+F2 but I would like to enter like before the upgrade pressing just F2.

Searching in the web I found that it is like a fast boot mode but this option doesn?t appear in my BIOS. I haven?t changed anything, it is like it has changed to the fast boot mode with te upgrade.

Moreover I have upgraded the BIOS because I bought 2 RAM modules of 4 GB Kingston DDR3 CL9 1333 Mhz that doesn?t work fine, with then my laptot just restart windows 10 again and again. I thought that upgrading the BIOS they could work but it happens the same. Do you Know if it can be a problem of the new RAM frequency? I think that the chipset just support 1066 MHz. Can you recommend me a RAM compatible with the lapton?

This are the modules I have tried

Thaks a lot

Hey , guys. I recently did a BIOS update on a Toshiba Tecra 8100 Laptop running Windows 2000. After the update, while the system appeared to be working normally (LEDs on, a little HD acivity but no windows boot), the screen won't show up. I tried connecting the laptop to an external monitor, but nothing happened. Is there anything I can do?

(Update) I am able to get to the bios upgrade screen by holding down F12 before pressing the power button. Is there any other way to upgrade the BIOS besides using a floppy drive?

Answer:Toshiba Tecra 8100 Bios Update

I want to update BIOS to latest level v1.6 .
I don't have a selectabay FDD ,only a DVD drive.
Now it would take 3 DVD's to do this i presume .ie having to sequentially update the BIOS to the latest.,
v1.4 then 1.5v and lastly v1.6.

Does the board support booting of a USB Mem stick, or a USB FDD.
Any thoughts on the best way to do this.

Is there a utility that I could download and do it from windows..

My system is an 820E. Tecra series 8200.

Answer:Can I update my BIOS using a USB Mem stick on Tecra 8200

I doubt you cannot do this.

Toshiba page provides a trad BIOS update which can be update only using the FDD drive.

Please check this Toshiba BIOS update ?How to? document:

I've been given the task of sorting out a friend?s Tecra 8000 laptop which is totally riddled with spyware and viruses. Having killed most of the infections I've backed up what I need to and decided the best course of action is an OS rebuild.

I don't know which OS to suggest he installs. Will ME install and make use of Win98 drivers or is this not advised (I have no experience with ME)?
Would XP be a better choice with its own drivers (have read posts on here that SP2 causes slow-downs though)?
With either of the above OS's will a Bios Update be necessary? If so does the 9.30-trad Bios update require a 500MHz + CPU? Will the Bios tell me the CPU speed?
I have found all info on how to install Bios updates; I'm just checking that I can install the 9.30-trad on a Tecra 8000 with a lower spec processor?

Many thanks,

Answer:Tecra 8000 - BIOS Update & XP or ME installation?

I installed the 9.30 trad on my tecra 8000 233mhz with no problem. The europeen downloads have different bios updates voor the 500mhz and lower. The trad version is for the lower versions.
The american downloadsite only have 1 bios, the 9.30 for all the machines.
It confused me, so i took the 9.30 trad which is sure for all machines below the 500 mhz.

Good luck.... besides i installed winxp pro on it and it runs smooth, i only dissabeld a lot of services running in the background which wheren't used to free memory.

Greetings Rick

I updated the BIOS on my Tecra A3 with the 2.30-WIN package, and the keyboard just failed.... Only a few of mye keys work and they don't even give the right sign... I guess there must be a language problem or something?

Anyhow... I can't get into BIOS or my bootmenu because even the keys F2 and F12 doesn't work... The touchpad works fine tho', so I can explore win xp etc....

How do I fix this??

Answer:Tecra A3 - keyboard failed after BIOS update

did you buy this PC in europe or somewhere else (asia, USA..)?
If you state your serialnumber we can check if the machine is a european model. If it is not then maybe you have the wrong BIOS installed.
If the machine is still working like you describe, then it should be possible to download the correct BIOS (if this was the wrong one) and install it. It requires only basic mouse operation.

I have problems with updating the BIOS of my Tecra R10J. The current version is 1.4, and I want to update it to 3.0, so i have downloaded from Toshiba web site the correct file named "P006Cv300.exe" released from 11/04/2009. This is a BIOS update ONLINE into a real session of Windows 7. Simply, right click the compress exe, click run as admin and that's all but ......... for me it said :
*"[Error] The starting of service was aborted. User does not have administrator privileges"*

see below :

I've tried it with :
- closed AV, Firewall, etc ...
- disable UAC
- Run as administrator
- Tried with an another admin account
- Safe mode (bios update does not support safe mode)
- direct local administrator session

No change. Still the message "User does not have administrator privileges".
Need help please, found nothing on Google (similar Bios problem but not solved !!!!!)

Thank you

Answer:Update BIOS Failed on Tecra R10 with Windows7

Did you install Win7 yourself?

I believe you need to install the Toshiba Value Added Package, so the BIOS file can read the system details properly.

ps. Did you install 32bit or 64bit?

after the BIOS-update to version 2.5, the touchpad doesn't do anything. Starting in the docking station, the optional PS2 mouse works without any problem. Starting undocked, the touchpad doesn't work anymore. Normally - before update - the touchpad started it's work immediately after undocked booting.
What can I do to reactivate the touchpad???

Answer:Tecra S1 - problems with touchpad after BIOS-update to 2.50

Are you sure that your touchpad was not disabled?

I mean the key combination FN+F9 would enable and disable the touchpad functionality.

Therefore you should check this firstly.

At the other hand a 3rd party mouse driver could affect the touchpad functionality too.

In my opinion you should try to reinstall the touchpad driver and to test it without connected 3rd party mouse.

Good luck

My model is Tecra A11-11N. I ran the BIOS update and some of my programs including ITunes, Nokia Ovisuite, VLC payer etc. are now not running. I tried to uninstall them and reinstall them but same problems.

Anyway to revert to pre update?

Answer:Tecra A11-11N - After BIOS update programs don't load now

Hi evangny,

I have also Tecra A11 in front of me and have installed newest BIOS version but this didn?t affect any installed programs. BIOS and installed programs are different.
What you can do is loading the default settings in BIOS after the update.

Can you be a little bit more detailed?
What happens exactly if you try to start these programs? Do you get an error message?

Do you use the preinstalled Windows version from Toshiba?

The 'latest' available BIOS is 3.5. Yet I am presently running on 7.1 downloaded some months back.
Is 3.5 a true update?

Answer:Tecra M5 - Is BIOS version 3.5 a true update?

Where did you find the 7.1 Bios version for the Tecra M5?
Did you find it on the Toshiba European driver page?

Well, in my knowledge Toshiba provides different BIOS. Some BIOS versions are compatible only with XP and some only with Vista. And there is also an BIOS which can handle the XP and Vista together.

The Toshiba European driver page says the BIOS version 3.5 is ?OS independent?.
So I presume it handles both operating systems; XP and Vista.

Unfortunately, I cannot say anything about the 7.1 BIOS version because it?s not known to me.
There are no informations about this on the Toshiba driver page :(

Best regards
