I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I use the touchpad but there doesn't seem to be a function on it where you can scroll up and down by dragging my finger on the right side as would be the case with most laptops.  Is it that I need to turn something on or is it just not a feature? Thanks

Answer:Acer E5-411 touchpad scrolling function

I see that this notebook has a multi-gesture touchpad with the following features, you might have to use two fingers to scroll or check the touchpad settings to make sure it's enabled (if an option).
Two-finger scroll and pinch.
Swipes access charms, application commands, and previous applications.

Anybody know how to activate *scrolling option* (vertical and horizontal) on *Portege z-930*?
I tried to find any option for activation in mouse settings menu (Windows 8), but unfortunately can't .

Click and zoom function is working good.
It is hard to believe what this model do not support touch pad scrolling at all. ((

Please, advice.
Thank you very much in advance!

Answer:Portege Z930: How to enable TouchPad scrolling function

Of course you should be able to find the touchpad settings in control panel -> mouse -> pointing device (last tab) -> Settings button.

But this requires the installed touchpad Synaptics driver. Was this driver installed?
If not, check this Synaptics driver page:

How do you turn off the scrolling function on the right hand side of the mouse?
It drives me crazy. Just want the cursor but cannot see anything in the Control Panel.

Answer:How to disable scrolling function on touchpad on Satellite A series?

This option you can find in advanced mouse options.
Control panel > Mouse properties > Device settings and if you have Synaptics driver just click on settings. There you will find option for virtual scrolling.

Just remove check mark in front of horizontal and vertical scrolling options and it will be OFF.

My Satellite 5200 Series features a PHYSICAL scroll wheel under the Touch Pad in addition to the two "mouse" buttons. I find it a massively useful feature but can't find any current models that have retained it.

Has it been rejected ?

Is there an alternative way of scrolling with newer machines ?

I'd rather not add an external mouse as it blocks a valuable USB port AND I actually DO use my laptop, outdoors on my LAP.

Answer:Satellite 5200: Question about TouchPad scrolling function

Hi Tatterdemalion,

Most modern notebooks using a touchpad have a software scrolling feature (which can be disabled if you wish) to control automatic scrolling. This is very useful for browsing text in Word documents or on web pages etc., The technique (when the feature is enabled) is to set the top left or right corner of the touchpad to be the 'enable' point and by touching this area momentarily it will change the mousse pointer to indicate the autoscroll option. You then just drag the pointer slightly downwards and the screen will start to scroll until you touch the touch pad again.

A manual scroll facility is also available and can be used simply by stroking the right side of the touchpad (down to scroll down and up to scroll up), and the bottom of the touchpad to scroll left and right.

I find these features very useful but I know other people who find them extremely irritating. It is worth checking out.

Hello guys!

Here is my problem - in my laptop there is disables scrolling function on my touchpad. I mean when I'm trying to scroll using it's right edge side.
Previously using Vista this function was enabled so please advice me how what to do. Great thanks!

Answer:Satellite A300D-16W - How to enable scrolling function on touchpad?

Have you tested an external mouse on the notebook?

In your case I would try to update the touchpad driver. You can find it on the Toshiba website: => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers

Remove the old driver, restart the notebook and then install the new driver.

Hello all.

I see from previous posts that this issue has been addressed in some way or another a few times and I have tried several of the fixes, and have had no success.

1. I have a toshiba L300 next to me(girlfriends), and this feature works fine. V annoying!!
2. I have never been able to enable the scrolling. I know where the setting are and have tried to check/uncheck the boxes/ press 'apply' then ok and the other way around.
3. I have re-installed the drivers from toshiba(synaptics).
4. I have updated the bios from tempro. Although I only registed for tempro recently, the dates on the list of updates seemed fairly old. ie. not much new stuff available anyway.

Thats where im at!
All advice would be apreciated.
Also, are Realtec drives related with the touchpad in some way??
Cheers Phill
I have about a month left on the warranty, so hopefully this would be something that may be covered if no-one can help.

Answer:Satellite Pro A210 touchpad synaptics cannot enable virtual scrolling.

In my opinion everything you already done is right and I?m really out of idea what you can try except most radical solution ? OS installation with recovery CD/DVD. After doing this you will have ?factory settings? again. As far as I know virtual scrolling is enabled by default and it should work after first start.

So doing this you can make the ?ultimate test? and be sure if this function works or not.

My laptop touchpad scrolling stopped working this morning after I updated my gpu driver. I went to the packard bell website and looked at the touchpad drivers for my laptop. There is a synaptics one and a elan one.
I have them both installed on my laptop but it still isn't working and there is still no virtual scrolling option in synaptics. These are the options that I have in the synaptics settings:
This is what it should look like:
What do I have to do to get the scroll trackpad feature to work again? P.S, when in device manager, even though there is an ELAN tab in mouse properties, Only the synaptics driver shows up under the mice section in device manager. Does this mean that the synaptics driver is replacing the ELAN and I need them both for the scroll to work.

Answer:Touchpad scroll not working, No virtual scrolling option in synaptics!

I've been messing around with it some more and ended up totally removing the synaptics drivers and installing the ELAN drivers. After doing this the scroll features of the trackpad work again so I have no idea why there are synaptics drivers on the model page for my laptop. There is still a problem though, when I got into the ELAN options in 'mouse settings', I get "windows shell common DLL has stopped working" and I then have to close the mouse settings. So now I can't get into the ELAN settings. Anybody have any info on 'windows shell' issue?

I'd be very grateful if someone could suggest a solution to the problem I have with the touchpad on my laptop, the one finger scrolling is not working, I have checked as far as I can using the info provided, as far as I know the driver is up to date, I've looked for 'Dell touchpad' or 'Device settings tab' in control panel and they aren't there, just mouse ( ps/2) properties and these are shown as ok, any ideas please? many thanks,Steven. ps, guruaid tell me it's a hardware problem but I'm not so sure, it used to work fine before Windows 10 was loaded and messed up a whole lot of functions, I was then told it's not compatible with this laptop, so I had to put Windows 7 back on and the problem stemmed from around that time

Answer:n5010 laptop touchpad not working correctly - no 'one finger' scrolling function

Have you performed a clean install of Windows 7 or have just rolled back the OS from Win10 to Win7? Is the touchpad detected in device manager? Is there any damage on the system? Do the touchpad button register a click?
Update the BIOS - restart the system and check if it works fine.  Reinstall the touchpad drivers from the same site and check.
If the touchpad is not detected in device manager- then download the service manual from the support site link above - and reseat the palmrest cables and check if it works.
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us.
Write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.

After I updated the BIOS (from Toshiba's website), the scrolling function stop working. I can still click, move the mouse pointer, but can no longer scroll through touch pad. Reinstalling Synaptics driver doesn't resolve the problem. The strange thing is that the computer only detects my touchpad as standard pointing device (port: PS/2) device. 'Pressure graph' and 'Moodpad' function also stop working and complain 'this program requires a Synaptics TouchPad and the Synaptics Pointing device driver'.
My computer is Satellite A200 PSAE0C-TR605C.

Does anyone know the reason?

Answer:Satellite A200 - Touchpad scrolling function stop working after update BIOS

Which operating system is installled and which is more interesting: which BIOS version did you installed?? Why I am asking? Because there are 2 different BIOS versions, one for Vista (1.80) and one for XP (5.20) which means when you flash a XP BIOS on a machine with Vista installed then some functions are not working properly like the FN keys or the touchpad.

Please check this out and make sure you have the proper BIOS installed.

Amie Nel

Answer:Tecra A9 tcrdmain.exe Vista Runtime error R6025 pure virtual function call

I see the error is related to the flashcards\tcrdmain.exe.
This flashcard application belongs to the Toshiba Vista Value Added Package and I think you should try to reinstall this package again.

Firstly you have to remove the old VAP from the system. Then download the newest VAP from the Toshiba European driver page and reinstall it.

Good luck

I have a DELL XPS M1530 laptop that I just installed a full version of Windows 7. It had Windows Vista on it before. It is a replacement computer for my old DELL (same model) that was having issues.

I usually hook up a bluetooth mouse when I use my computer, but I just noticed last night when I was using the touchpad instead, is that it does not scroll up and down, or left to right. The mouse part of the touchpad works fine, as does the left and right buttons.

I am assuming the scrolling is just turned off on this computer (thinking simply first ... hoping it is not a serious issue). But I cannot find where to check to see if it needs to be turned back on.

Any suggestions?

There are only drivers for Vista and not Win 7. This may be an issue.
You could try the Vista driver under input devices.

Answer:touchpad scrolling does not work on two acer notebooks

You need to install a proper Windows 10 compatible driver for your trackpad.
Windows 7 drivers most likely won't work, Windows 8/8.1 drivers might work in some cases but might also behave erratically.

The scrolling feature on the touchpad worked for awhile and now it won't work.

I've looked all through the computer and tried everything and nothing seems to work.
I don't really know too much about computers to begin with and no one else i know can help me.

My dad had the same problem with his computer but he said it seemed to work itself out.
Mine still hasn't and it's driving me insane.

If anyone could help it'd be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much.

Answer:Satellite L45: touchpad scrolling feature does not work

Did you check if the touchpad scroll function has been enabled and configured properly?
Before you would reinstall the touchpad driver I recommend checking these settings.

Do you know where to find these settings?
You can find it in

+Control panel -> mouse -> last tab (device settings) -> Settings button+

Here you should check the *Virtual Scrolling*

Hello there,

I have a Qosmio F20 and only had it for less than a year, I have always used the touch pad and the quick launch feature, never changed anything in the touch pad settings nor any major changes in the operating system, i have a problem now!

the touch pads scrolling feature dosen't work any more, you know how the right side is to scroll up/down and the bottom for scrolling left/right, now it dosen't work.... my brother used my computer and he installed a bluetooth program, infrared driver, he used a USB mouse and installed Nokia PC suite.
NOW what do i do? HEEELP!!!!!!

Answer:Qosmio F20: Touchpad scrolling feature dosen't work any more

You brother has installed a lot of applications and also a USB mouse.
Who knows what he has changed on your notebook.

If the touchpad scrolling function does not work so I assume the settings were changed.
In your case I would recommend checking the touchpad settings.
You should find it under the mouse settings in the control panel.

As far as I know you can find these settings in the Toshiba touch and launch.

Answer:Touchpad scrolling doesn't work after Windows 10 upgrade

I don’t know what notebook model you have but fact is that not all notebook series are supported for Win 10 upgrade.
In such case the Win 10 drivers will not be released for such unit….

The touchpad scrolling requires additional touchpad driver…
If your unit supports Synaptics touchpad, you could also use the driver from Synaptics driver page:

But currently driver for Win 10 isn’t available… you could try to install and use the Win 8.1 driver but I’m not quite sure if it will work properly….

Do I need to swap it out or is there another fix?

Have you tested an external mouse? If not you should do this and test it again.

Furthermore you should update the touchpad driver. You can download the newest version on the Toshiba website. :)

Hi Community!
Today I bought my very first Thinkpad (Thinkpad Yoga). Unfortunately I do seem to be too think to use it properly...
I cannot figure out, how to enable the touchpad. I do not think it is broken or something, because the trackpoint and all buttons and also two finger swipe for scrolling work fine. I just cannot move the mouse cursor with the touchpad.
I the driver setting screen the touchpad and all its options are greyed out, too (see screenshot).
Does anyone have any idea, what I may be doing wrong?
Thanks a lot!

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga 13 Touchpad is disabled - Scrolling & Gestures work

Has anyone ever made headway on this issue? I'm having the same problem. Scrolling and gestures are recognized, but moving the cursor and tap-to-click are nonfunctional. It's essentially stuck permanently in trackpoint-only mode, and the option to switch back has literally dissapeared. It started intermittently (would sometimes "fix itself" on restarting) but now the problem appears permanent and updating drivers does not solve the issue.

I'm using a Tecra A2. I downloaded the touchpad on/off utility from It wasn't obvious where it had installed itself at first (there was nothing on the start menu and no request during the install). however i entually found it in C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\TouchED, as an exe called TouchED. This apparently does nothing when I launch it. It certainly doesn't switch off the touchpad. Fn-F9 also has no effect.

How can I disable the touchpad?

Answer:Tecra A2: Touchpad utility and Fn-F9 don't work

I assume these options don?t work because of the wrong installation.
I have checked the Toshiba driver page and it seems that you have to install two applications.
Firstly you need to install the Touchpad driver and then the Touchpad On/Off utility.
This utility should allow you to use the FN+F9 key combination.

But firstly you should remove the old driver and application to clean the registry.

This is a weird one. I just got a second hand laptop - Acer V3-771G with an Elan touchpad and I put a new SSHD hard drive in it and installed Windows 10 fresh.

I see lots of issues with ELAN touchpads but it seems as though Microsoft has produce one that installs and fixes most scrolling issues.

However, I have a strange one. When I enable vertical scrolling in the driver, it works as long as the mouse is active - and for up to 5 seconds after. But when I stop using the touchpad and go to scroll again after 5 seconds, it doesn't work anymore! It's like it disables it after inactivity - but only 5 seconds?

I've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, tried various versions - but of course Acer doesn't support Windows 10 on this older model laptop (circa 2012) so there are no specific drivers for it on their site. Everything works except for this scrolling after 5 seconds - which I can recreate every single time.

I tend to look at websites and want to read something and then scroll down - but I can''s driving me crazy!

Anybody have a problem like this?

Answer:ELAN touchpad driver scrolling stops after 5 sec inactivity

you might aswell give it a go to reinstall driver as a "ps/2 mouse", wouldnt hurt to try it.

Answer:Tecra S1: Touchpad driver

Just found where I made the mistake. To get this touchpad working correctly there are two drivers to install:
First: the Touch Pad driver;
Second: the Dual Pointing Device driver.

My mistake was trying to install the second step without doing the first one first.
I only discovered this by doing some trial and error. Maybe Toshiba should consider adding a little "How-to" article with the correct sequence of installing drivers.

I have tried multiple keyboards, both wired and wireless in all USB ports (no PS2 ports) and none of them work at all once Vista (32-bit) has started. Even the Num Lock and Caps Lock keys don't change the indicators on the keyboard itself once Vista starts, including Safe Mode. Keyboards work fine in BIOS, and when I booted with FalconFour's "mini-XP" OS it worked fine as well. Also, there are no problems with the mouse. I can do everything normally using the on-screen keyboard. I've run Glary, ADWcleaner, registry fix with CCleaner. Removed any suspicious programs. Tried uninstalling the HIDs and using "scan for hardware changes" to re-install them. Nothing has had any effect.
It is a friend's PC and she REALLY wants to avoid a System Recovery but it's looking to me like that will be the only way to get her keyboard to work again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:No keyboards function in Vista, but do work in BIOS and virtual XP.

Hello there,
Can you please specify the name and model of your friends PC?
It's possible the keyboard drivers are corrupted and therefore need to be replaced. You can go directly to your PC's manufacturer and download the appropriate drivers from there.
In addition you can have Windows automatically download recommended drivers for your PC through "Windows Update". For more details follow this link:
Hope this helps!

We have recently performed a fresh install of Windows 7 x64 on a Toshiba Tecra A10.
The OS has picked up most drivers, we had to install drivers for the card reader ourselves.

Our problem is that the touchpad and buttons do not work at all.
The driver shows in Device Manager as being properly installed, but that's all. I have even installed the Alps Control Panel (Vista x64) which runs okay.
Have tried the "Touch pad and stick are automatically invalidated" settings when using an external USB mouse, all to no avail.

The hardware was working perfectly okay with Windows 7 32 Bit installed.

Is there a fix here?

Answer:Tecra A10 - Touchpad and buttons do not work on Windows 7 x64

Maybe it?s just a driver issue? I have checked the available downloads for Tecra A10 on Toshiba page and for Windows 7 32bit there is a newer driver available, for Windows 7 64bit not (no driver). So you must use the Vista 64bit driver?

What you can do is testing the touchpad driver for Tecra A11. There is a newer version for Windows 7 64bit from Alps Electric so the correct one. Touchpad driver is not system related so I?m pretty sure it also works on your model.

Have a look on Toshiba website for Tecra A11 driver: > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

I'm having a really annoying scrolling issue with the touchpad on my Lenovo X250 (Windows 10). The sensitivity of scrolling is dramatically decreased following the use of trackpoint scrolling. Example, say I have a program like Chrome open to a web page. Using two finger scrolling on the touchpad it takes maybe 2.5-3 swipes to get to the bottom of the page. I then hold down the middle button above the touchpad and use the trackpoint to scroll. Now that that is over I go back and try the touchpad again. This time it takes me 10-12 swipes to get to the bottom of the page. Scroll rate is already turned up to max in the synaptics settings, nothing has changed. Scrolling behavior will now remain this way until I restart the computer. Can someone please provide a solution?

Answer:X250 scrolling sensitivity issues with synaptics touchpad driver

Additionally it seems that the trackpad will randomly become unresponsive at time as if it "sticks". I remaped caps lock to CTRL and I cannot use the trackpad while holding it down, the mouse freezes. All around not a great experience with this driver.

The previous driver allowed for edge scrolling but latest version does not have the capability.I understand for those upgrading to Windows 8 with touch screen capability this is not an issue but what about us who do not have touch screen. In my opinion this is a major flaw. Please let me hear form you if you too are unhappy about the new Windows 8 Touch pad driver. By the way, I tried rolling the driver back but the previous driver causes serious erratic behavior. Below is a screen shot of the version for the newest Windows 8 Touch Pad driver.

This problem appears on Windows 8.1

  b)  DellTPad.exe alternate utility to set touchpad setting. When launching this I have this option (translating into english) "one finger actions/multi-finger actions", and then it allows you to set single finger vertical/horizontal scrolling.

My TECRA A10 has a very strange problem since 1 month.
At startup, in windows XP, keyboard or touchpad or both frequently don't work. Only "Fn" keys are operationnals.
I can't use the others. "CAPS LOCK" , alpha keys, etc aren't active. Laptop isn't usable.
I have to restart the laptop in loop while alpha keybord isn't usable.Drivers are update.

I think it's a problem related to Windows.
When the Laptop is booting, I can choose a starting media with directional keys and then see "CAPS LOCK" key is OK ( switch led is working ).
All seems ok . After choosing hard disk media and starting XP, keyboard is out.
No problem IN BIOS.

I reinstalled Windows XP Pro SP3 with the Toshiba CD.
At the beginning, I had no issue with keyboard or touchpad. I restarted laptop and all was nice.
I applied Windows Update and keyboard/touchpad problems were back.

Maybe, there is a conflict driver with a Windows Update ?

Answer:Tecra A10 - Keybord and Touchpad don't work most time in Windows XP

> I applied Windows Update and keyboard/touchpad problems were back.
As I understood your message the keyboard and touchpad issues began after running the first MS Windows XP updates.
But after the Win XP installation (without the MS updates) everything worked perfectly? you have no problems with the notebook also using the OS from the Toshiba Recovery disk (Vista for example).

Is it right?

Hmm? that?s strange? because the keyboard driver is a part of the Windows and there are no special keyboard drivers which could be updated.
But there is touchpad driver on the Toshiba European driver page; Alps Electric.

Update the touchpad driver and additionally check if your BIOS is up to date. If the BIOS is not up to date then update it too.

Check it out!

I'm running a Dell XPS 15 Laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.  My Synaptic Touchpad stopped working after I updated an academic research program called Papers.  I don't know if that program caused these problems or not, but I'm afraid of uninstalling it because I may lose a lot of data.  (Long story, it's an expired trial version, and to export the data I would have to pay a fair bit of money, which I'm trying to avoid.  Right now all I want is to be able to scroll again.)
Anyway, the pointer would just remain in the default place on the screen, and when I use the keyboard to navigate to the Mouse section of Control Panel it says it "Cannot Connect with Synaptics Pointing Device", etc.
So I uninstalled the Synaptics software, and restarted.  Now the touchpad works fine, but without any of the vertical or horizontal scrolling capabilities that the Synaptics software had.
So, here's the current situation: if I install the latest Synaptics touchpad driver from the Dell site, the touchpad doesn't work at all.  If I uninstall it, and reboot with just the PS/2 Mouse generic Windows driver, the touchpad works but without any scrolling options.
I updated the BIOS to A12 from A06, but it didn't fix the problem.
Thank you so much for any help and suggestions!  Let me know if you need any more info.

Answer:Synaptic Touchpad stopped working, but will run with the generic windows driver. No scrolling.

Anybody here want to take a stab at it?  Or direct me elsewhere?  Much appreciated.

I installed Windows 7 x64 on my Toshiba Tecra and everything runs fine so far. But I have trouble with my touchpad.

The touchpad is working, the problem is, I want to switch it off. I only work with the stick and the touchpad causes a jumping mouse arrow; together with the tap-to-click function very often large sections of text are deleted.

Under Vista 32 I was able to switch off the touchpad. Und Win 7 I miss this function. I tried several things; e.g. installing drivers from other toshiba notebooks or from the synaptics page or, alternatively, drivers for alps-touchpads. But nothing works.

The Notebook is a Tecra M9 PTMB0E; the PCI ID of the touchpad is PNP0F13

Answer:Tecra M9 Win7 x64 Need driver to disable touchpad

The Alps Electric touchpad driver from other Toshiba notebook should work since the touchpad is the same.
So don?t understand why you are not able to install the touchpad driver.

Usually the touchpad could be disabled using FN + F9 function.
To have the FN button functionality you have to install VAP and Flash Card Support Utility. I?ve chosen both apps from other Satellite series (L500).

Try that.

I had to install *Win 7, 64 bit* on my notebook *TECRA M9 PTM91E*

Most drivers could be found, but the *touchpad* is out of function. In addition (?) I get an error-message, that a driver for "*communication controller*" (ID: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2A04&SUBSYS_00011179&REV_03) is missing. Compatible devices would be PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2A04&REV_03

I do know, that TECRA M9 is not supported by Toshiba for Win 7, but can anyone help me with this driver-problem?

Many thanks in advance.

I have got a Tecra A7 with XP. Every once and a while when waking up from Standby or Hibernation, the Keyboard and Touchpad dont work at all. I can still log on using fingerprint recognition. Also an external USB mouse then works.

I have to Log Off and Re-Log-On using the external mouse to make the keyboard and touchpad work again. Very inconvenient, especially when you re in a hurry.... hehe

Anyone else experiencing a similar problem?? Any solutions??

Thanks for any help guys!!!

Answer:Fn+F5 function and touchpad doesn't work correctly on Satellite A series

What notebook do you have?

I presume your notebook was delivered with XP and now you want to use it with Vista OS.
Please note that you need to install the Toshiba Vista Value Added Package to use all the notebook features.
Very important is the Components Common Driver and the TOSHIBA Flash Cards.
The Flashcards provides the Hotkey function and the launcher function that starts the Hotkey function.
Please reinstall it!

The additional touchpad functionality must be configured firstly!
This can be done in control panel -> mouse

There you should look for the touchpad settings and could configure the touchpad scroll areas again.

I have installed the Value added package and the other FN Keys on the F Buttons work.

Thank you for your help.

Answer:Satellite A200-19l: Touchpad FN function don't work Vista Ultimate

Satellite A200-19L belongs to the PSAECE series.
The Toshiba driver page provides two touchpad drivers;
One from Alps Electric and one from Synaptics

The Synaptics driver allows you to set the properties and functions for Touch Pad control.
The Alps Electric driver allows you to set the properties and functions for mouse control.

Check if both are installed properly

I'm using windows 8.1, Lenovo G505s laptop. Recently I got replacement from Lenovo regarding touchpad after that this Fn(F7) touchpad enable/disable not working. This is happening only when I installied touchpad driver provided by lenovo and works well with standard microsoft driver (Ofcourse, no multigesture support with that driver). We perfomed following operations:1. HotKey mode enable/disable in BIOS2.Reinstallation of OS3. Reinstallation of driver(manually) All cases with microsoft driver this function working but with touchpad driver it is not working. It's almost 90days (88thday) daily contacting both Lenovo customer support and service center people but no use. If anybody having this problem and have a solution please share! (My machine under warranty!)

Answer:G505s - Touchpad hot key function not working with lenovo driver

hi phani_kumar,
Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
AFAIK, the hotkey for the Touchpad is F6 (hotkey mode is disabled in the BIOS).
  - Link to picture
If you already tried that though, can you consider the following:
1. Uninstall the Touchpad and the Lenovo Energy Managerment Driver from the Control Panel (icon views ) > Programs and Features
2. Install the following Win8 Drivers:
Lenovo Energy Management Driver for Windows 8 (32-bit, 64-bit)
Touchpad Driver (Synaptics, Elan) for Windows 8 (64-bit)
Let me know how it goes.

It has all gone well except the Windows install has left me to find the drivers myself. Does anyone know where to find the touch pad driver that allows you switch it on and off (using the button under the space bar)?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

All Toshiba drivers can be found on the Toshiba EU driver page.
I assume the button near the touchpad is controlled by Toshiba Value Added Package as well as the touchpad driver.

I recently upgraded my Sony Vaio VGN-730E/B from Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit to Windows 7 Professional 64bit. According to the Microsoft Tool for upgrading to Windows 7 and the specs for the notebook upgrading to Windows 7 64bit is possible.

I have tracked down and modded drivers for Nvidia GeForce 8400M GT, Wireless Card, Ethernet Adapter, Motherboard, Synaptic Touchpad...
- which is the problem, the touchpad driver invalidates my keyboard...
- if I don't install the driver, they scroll function of the touchpad doesn't work

Also, I am unable to find a driver for my keyboard or peripheral buttons on the laptop...
It's not a big deal, but my eject button for my DVD Rom device doesn't function...

Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Install Symantic Touchpad Driver and keyboard ceases to function

Hello Malone and welcome to Seven Forums.

Did you use the Sony eSupport to get your updated drivers?

Sony eSupport - Computers - Notebook - Select Your Model

After installing the touchpad driver go into control panel > mouse > function tab to make sure the scroll feature is enabled. Also check the hardware tab and double-click Alps pointing device > driver tab to make sure you have the latest driver there as well.

From control panel you can also check the keyboard > hardware tab > double-click PS/2 keyboard > driver tab to make sure there isn't a newer keyboard driver.

The control panel will also get you to device manager which will let you check the status of your DVD/CD ROM and see if an updated driver is available. But since the eject button on the DVD tray is also a partly mechanical device it's possible that some dirt may have gotten into the mechanism and is keeping it from working. Perhaps a quick blast of compressed air around the button?

Hi. I have a Dell Inspiron 14. 2Gb Memory Core2Duo.

I can;t scroll Sideways but I can going up and down.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Dell Touchpad not scrolling Sideways. But scrolling Up & Down

On both my Acer aspire one netbook (synaptics) and my Lenovo notebook (alps) I need to tab twice on the lower edge of the touchpad (to gain its attention?!?) and then it will scroll. Beyond that I believe you need to take a walk on the Dell support web site. There are number of 14xx models so you need to follow the steps there to find the freshest driver for your particular model. On both of mine the newest drivers have given scrolling as well as "pinching" to re-size pages, photos etc.

After lot's of fighting i've given up. It's just been imposible to get my sound card up a running on my TECRA M9 PTM91E, after i decided to give it a clean up by formating the disk entirely. My proceedure goes as follows:

1. Installed WINDOWS XP SP2
2. Downloaded of all drivers on another pc. Downloads from toshiba's official driver site:
3. Installed drivers in correct order following instructions:
4. No luck when attempting to install sound card driver (download page specifies an integrated realtek) tried following version first:
5. Messed around trying older drivers from other TECRA M Series laptops, no luck either.
6. Decided sound card just might not be a Realtek and tried other models on the download page: Sigma and Analog Devices Inc. Tried those but got back a non recognition alert.

Has anyone had this problem as well? My best guess it's just might be a problem about the driver version...

Answer:Sound driver does not work after reinstalling XP on Tecra M9

Yes, I have exactly the same problem.

We are building our master unit and we *must* do a install from bare metal of all the software. We do an automated provisioning for the rest of our massive purchase.

We have build a custom version of the Windows XP SP2 installation CD (with disk and chipset drivers injected). It has been working ok.
We have installed all the software drivers using the same procedure as yours (in the order proposed in install.txt).

The only thing that has failed is the sound.

This is the first place we ask for a solution. I hope we will have an answer (from toshiba) soon.

We just got a Dell XPS-15z, and, we have questions about scrolling on the Cypress touchpad using the Cypress drivers.

When scrolling down (either one finger or 2 fingers), when you hit the bottom of the touchpad, is there any way for the scrolling to continue without your having to lift your finger(s) back to the top of the touchpad? On other Dell laptops, I have Chiral motion, or the scrolling continues so long as your finger is at the bottom of the touchpad? I tried enabling the "Continued Motion" option just in case that was what did it, but that did not seem to work.

Which brings up another question re what "Continued Motion" does.

Also, is there any manual/help document for this driver either on the internet, or in the software itself?

I looked on the forum and on the internet, and couldn't find any answers.

I own a Tecra 9000, with a Yamaha AC-XG sound card.
The problem is that since I installed Windows XP with SP2 included, I lost my sound.

I know also that Toshiba is aware of this situation and they have managed to post a solution for it. I've tried this solution:

The Yamaha AC-XG driver uses PortCls function for checking the operatingsystem version. XP Service Pack 1, PortCls function is changed, then the Yamaha driver cannot get operatingsystem version correctly. The operatingsystem provides the version for Windows 95. Therefore the Operatingsystem has a blue screen. Therefore Microsoft added the workaround and illegal drivers are blocked from working on SP1. This issue also happens Windows XP SP2.
Yamaha already provides the fixed drvier to Toshiba. The fixed driver version is the following;
yacxg.sys with software synthesizer
yacxgc.sys without software synthesizer

How to fix this issue:
Install the fixed driver on a system before/after installing Windows XP Service Pack 2.
Install steps:
(1) Unzip an attached file on your hard disk.
(3) Click the Next button.
(4) Choose "Yes, I want to restart my computer now" and click Finish.

A toshiba engineer told me that first of all I needed to install the old driver "", and it worked out ok, but still no sound.
And then he told me to install the version "", but th... Read more

Can you somewhere obtain WXP without SP installations (or maybe including SP1) CD? Tecra 9000 is pretty old notebook model (6 years old) and maybe you should start install OS like original recovery image.

Install WXP without SP and configure all hardware components. After doing this make SP2 update. Maybe this installations order will help to have functioning OS.

I thought my problem is solved but it is not (refering to my other thread)

I downloaded the sound driver as advised but it says "your computer doesn?t support virtual sound"
I have bought my computer in spain and changed to XP Professional to get english language (and I like Pro more).

I downloaded all drivers in the Equium download section in english - all are installed.
Last one is the virtual sound driver that does not work.
Tryed the spanish version, too and it says the same.

Any solutions ?

Thanks alot in advance!

Answer:Virtual sound driver does not work on Equium A100

In my knowledge you have to install the drivers in the right order if you install the OS manually.
This is a prerequisite if you want to use the Toshiba drivers, tools and utilities.

I can?t believe that it?s not possible to install the sound driver.
XP Home and XP Pro uses the same drivers therefore there is no driver compatibility issue. I think you have to follow the installation guide line which you can find on the driver page and then install all the drivers like described in the document.

As far as I know the Tecra M5 was delivered either with the Intel or nVidia graphic card.

On the notebooks with nVidia graphic card you can set different option in the nVidia Desktop manager; for example ?Enable multiple desktops?
You should find it in control panel.

Unfortunately, I don?t know exactly where the settings are placed in the nVidia manager because this notebook was delivered only with WinXP but I?m sure you will find it.

Hi there,

I am having issues with the ELAN driver on my Satellite S50-B-12Q. One of a sudden it started to work weirdly, it can't be used. It moves fast and not responsive to your finger's actions. The only solution I've come up with is to roll back to a previous driver, the windows one, but of course I've lost all the extra movements (scrolling, moving right, left and so on).

I have tried different versions of the ELAN driver but had no different results.

Could please anyone help me out with this?

Hello, ASRR here.

I've been having a problem with my Synaptics touchpad driver since yesterday. I am very used to using the "gestures" to work with my touchpad and the gestures haven't worked properly (in fact at all) for a while. The two-finger scrolling, the three-finger touch and others (actually all of the gestures) do not work anymore.

The cursor moves, and works fine but the gestures don't.

When I go to the Mouse option in the Control Panel, a window pops up stating that the PC is "Unable to connect to the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver." and asks me whether I want to uninstall it.

I have tried uninstalling it, then going on the support page for Toshiba and downloading a driver that was suitable for my model, operating system, etc.

When I set up the driver I downloaded and restart the PC, the same window pops up when I try and go to the Mouse options in the Control Panel and the gestures do not work.

One interesting thing I noticed however, is the fact that when I roll back the driver (in the Hardware properties- then settings) the gestures work FINE. However, as it always asks you to restart the computer in order for the Rolling back of the driver to take place, when I do restart it, it sets the Microsoft touchpad driver from 2006; which does not include the gestures I need.

I have tried multiple times to fix it but I can't. I went to the UEFI firmware set up and tried resetting it to default but with no success.

How to understand this? Have you tried to set your notebook to ?factory settings? again?
To be honest I don't understand what is wrong there. I also thought that new driver installation may help but obviously there is no much help.

I don't know if this is an option for you but you can set notebook to factory settings again and I hope everything will be work properly again. Before you do this try also to roll back OS to earlier time using system restore option.

One more thing: it has nothing to do with your touchpad issue but I recommend you to create recovery media (recovery image back-up) using preinstalled recovery media creator.

Got a nasty surprise today - unlike the other major manufacturers, who offer one year free tech support, Lenovo does not. $179 for a contract or $89 to cover a single incident. Thanks, guys. :-/ Here's my problem. G780, bought last October. Upgraded from Win7 Home Premium to Win8 Pro.A few days ago, the built-in keyboard stopped working. It works in the BIOS, but when you boot into Windows, Windows doesn't recognize it. There is a PS/2 keyboard driver and a HID Keyboard Device that show up in the Win8 Device Manager. I'm assuming those are the drivers for the built-in keyboard. If I plug in a USB keyboard, it shows up in the Device Manager as an additional HID Keyboard Device. Through trial and error, I discovered that the keyboard still works fine when the Elan touchpad driver is not installed. The problem with THAT: I can't disable the touchpad unless the driver is installed, and if the touchpad isn't disabled, it'll screw me up because I accidentally brush my hand up against the touchpad while typing. I've also noticed that sometimes, the touchpad icon in the system tray shows up with a CAUTION icon overlaid on top of it (you know, the little yellow triangle with the exclamation point). I can't figure out why, and I can't figure out what changed on my computer that caused the keyboard to stop working properly. I've tried uninstalling the Elan touchpad driver, downloading the latest driver from the G780 support web page, and reinstalling it. I tried change scrolling speed but it doesn't help. I had owned Dell inspirons in the past and I had very smooth virtual scrolling experience. Is there anything I can do in this case?

Answer:Virtual Scrolling is very rough

I'm having the same problem with a new T500 - even with 'smooth scrolling' enabled in Firefox, it's jumpy and somewhat unpredictable.    I noticed that nobody has replied to this post, so I thought it worth reviving in the hope that somebody will have an answer.

I am curious to know if the mousepad has a scrolling feature (swipe up and down on the right side) would scroll webpage. I come from Sony laptop and their mousepad has this feature which is convenient rather than using page up and down to scroll webpage. thanks.

Answer:does the mousepad have scrolling function when you swipe up and down on the side?

It does not have a scrolling function on the side of the touchpad, but it does have multitouch capabilities so you can push two fingers down, start the scroll, and I recently discovered that you can take one finger off and move the one that is still on to the top (or bottom) of the touchpad and it will continue the scroll so it does not scroll a bit, stop, and make you scroll again. A nifty little feature, in my opinion. Of course, I am fairly sure all Yogas come with a touchscreen, which is really nice for scrolling as well.

Hi all

I seem to have lost the ability to scroll using the edge of the touch pad normal scrolling ok. Any ideas welcome

Answer:Satellite L450-136 - Scrolling function lost

The virtual scrolling function is controlled by touchpad driver. So probably you have changed some touchpad settings?!
You can check the scrolling function in touchpad driver (control panel > mouse > Advanced).

Furthermore you can try to reinstall the whole touchpad driver. Have a look on Toshiba website to download it:

I've never used this on a windows box. I followed the instructions for enabling it but so far, in IE8, Firefox, Word 2007, drawing my finger down the toucpad does nothing. I'm running Vista-32 business if that matters.

I got my laptop a few months ago and really enjoyed the volume buttons for instant access.  BUT, For some reason they stoped working along with the virtual scrolling.  I don't know if its related or a coincidence.  I would like to get these features back if anyone can help.

This is a recurring problem and I've yet to receive any kind of solution from Lenovo technical support.   I like to use the "virtual scrolling" feature on my touchpad.  It worked fine for a few weeks, and then it would stop working.  So when I went into the Mouse setting, and click on the Mouse properties, and go to enable to the virtual scrolling, nothing happens when I "click" on the box to enable virtual/horizontal scrolling.  Nothing happens, the "check" doesn't appear.  If I keep closing and opening it, I can eventually get it to work, but there's no set pattern to it and it's extremely frustrating. I've downloaded all the updates related to this, but while it's worked before, it's not working any more.  And, when I do finally get the virtual scrolling to work, if I restart the computer, it goes back to not working again and I have to start from square-one again.  Does anyone have any recommendations?  They would be much appreciated.

I have this problem with my Tecra 9100 that after moving my cursor for a few seconds it 'leaps' to whatever direction I was pointing to. This is very annoying. Aswell as this, when I scroll, it is not smooth at all but like the cursor, it 'leaps'. So when I try scrolling down a page I've gotta be careful because it might just leap to the bottom! Thought I should also mention that dragging Windows is jumpy too.

I am almost certain that these three problems are all related to each other.

Before, my laptop was fine with none of the problems above. This was until error messages saying 'Delayed Write Failed' popped up out of the blue. Such errors I have found to be related to the hardrive not functioning correctly.

Optimisticly, I formated Drive C and put a fresh installation of Windows on to see if this would fix my problem. Surely it would?... Nope. How about I download the MouseWare driver that my laptop came with?... Still doesn't fix the problem.

I've run out of ideas and don't think a software update will fix my problem. I believe it's to do with my hardware (namely speaking, hard disks). I've got 2 hard disks. Coincidently, 'Delayed Write Failed' error messages shows up on both my hard disks.

Please reply, thankyou.

Answer:Tecra 9100: Jumpy cursor and scrolling not smooth.

Yes! I have finally distinguished what is causing my problems! After all the trouble I went through I have just discovered that a Video Card driver update is what fixed it! It's not perfect but atleast I can scroll alot more smoothly! :)

Lost scrolling function in Word 2007 with my Logitech mouse. Functions just fine in Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer, Access. etc. Lost one other function in paint shop pro where scroll button worked as zoom in and out. Puchased a new keyboard/mouse combo, but still will not let me scroll in Word 2007 and is driving me nuts as it used to do it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have uninstalled and installed new drivers.

Answer:Solved: Lost scrolling function in Word 2007

Hi Believer,
Is there a mouse icon in your system tray near the clock? If so, double-click it and there should be an option to use the default Intellimouse settings. Click that button and try it again in Word. Hope that helps.

Until a couple of days ago, my mousepad allowed me to scroll. I've tried looking at the settings in control panel/mouse but the options have disappeared.

Is it a driver issue? If so, which driver should I download, and where from?

The current driver is:
and was created 17/07/2003

If it's not a driver issue, does anyone have any suggestions on how to restore the scrolling function?

Many thanks :)

Answer:ALPS pointing device - how to restore the scrolling function

I really don?t understand what is wrong there. As far as I know mouse settings can not disappear so easy. Anyway try to roll back OS to earlier time using system restore tool. Maybe this option will be there again.

I own a Toshiba Satellite L40-139 running Windows Vista 32-bit. However, I think this problem does not only apply to this model as many other users are experiencing the same thing.

I often watch online videos in fullscreen mode, (such as on YouTube), but when I exit fullscreen mode I notice that virtual scrolling stops working on the touchpad. This occurs in both the latest versions of Internet Explorer and Firefox. I can still move the pointer around but cannot scroll. I also notice that the animated icon in the task tray freezes, as it does not respond to any movements on the touchpad. I have the latest version of the driver installed (

Is it possible for Toshiba to issue a more updated driver for the Synaptics Pointing Device that resolves this issue?

Answer:Satellite L40-139 - After watching video I can't use virtual scrolling

If you move the mouse pointer away from the Flash video frame, can you scroll again?

I have a normal USB mouse and it never scrolls when the cursor is hovering over the flash video itself, but scrolls when the cursor is over the HTML page.

Hello! I want to make full use of the touchpad - but I can't scroll pages by dragging the finger at the right end of the touchpad. There is a folder in the D directory with small videos demonstrating different touchpad features. It's in:Lenovo D - Drivers - Touchpad - - x64 Here I found the video demonstrating "continous edge scroll". There are several exe-files in this folder. By the way, I have the driver installed. In mouse settings there are only very basic settings for the "Elan smart pad" .I didn't find any scroll settings. What may be the issue?

Hi guys

I made a mistake and uninstalled the original driver for the mousepad, stupidly. Anyway, I was able to find the drivers to get it to work again. But I have a minor issue which I hope someone can help me fix.

I cant get the scrolling ability to work when you use the edges of the mousepad to scroll up and down or left and right. Is there something im missing which can get this to work or is it a lost cause.

Thank you

Answer:Can't use scrolling on touchpad

Can you also tell us what notebook and OS you have? This would be useful to write useful advices how to solve your problem.

Normally you can enable/disable the virtual scrolling function in Mouse settings. Therefore go in control panel > Mouse. Check the properties there and then you can enable/disable this function.

My touchpad has lost its scrolling functions since I upgraded to Windows 10, a year ago, and nothing I try can fix that.    I understand Windows comes with built-in drivers for mouse and touchpad, with the basic functions for the cursor. But that Synaptics drivers, with other functions like scrolling, are quickly downloaded and installed.   Well, in my case, it seems that these Synaptics drivers never take over, never get to actually control the touchpad: they seem correctly installed and activated, and I do check the scrolling functions all right; but the touchpad continues to behave as if it were still driven by the basic built-in drivers in Windows.   In fact sometimes I uninstall and totally delete the Synaptics drivers and make do with the basic Windows software; until the next automatic downloading of the useless Synaptics.   Thanks for any help.

I bought this laptop only two days ago and I cannot get the touchpad to do page scrolling. I have enabled scrolling in the mouse settings within control panel, but it's still not working. I downloaded the latest driver from the lenovo website and still nothing. The touchpad does all the other motion controls. Any help is appreciated!

Answer:G50-70 touchpad not scrolling

You have installed latest Synaptic touchpad driver from website and you are still facing an issue in page scrolling, then you can try changing the settings of the One/ Two Finger Scrolling feature (located under Mouse Properties). Try below steps to resolve the issue:1. In Mouse Properties window as seen below, choose Device Settings.2. Under Device Settings, select Settings.3. You can customize the scrolling behavior of your mouse by checking the relevant boxes under Scrolling.4. You can opt to enable vertical and/or horizontal scrolling according to your preference.5. Click on OK to apply the changes.
