Tecra A8: Fingerprint Sensor - 1080 Biometric Sensor is not calibrated

Question: Tecra A8: Fingerprint Sensor - 1080 Biometric Sensor is not calibrated

Hi,

I've recently installed the software (Protector Suite QL) on my Tecra A8 laptop. It worked fine for a day! Then I get an error saying "Biometric sensor is not calibrated, Please use the calibration tool to rememdy it" when I try to enroll some more prints. I cant seem to find this tool and I've tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it and it doesnt work. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Tecra A8: Fingerprint Sensor - 1080 Biometric Sensor is not calibrated

Hi Rainer

Did you check if this option is located in the Protector Suite QL application?
Possibly it?s a part of this software.

Where did you find this program and was this application preinstalled on the Toshiba recovery image?

Hi all. I would like to have better use of the fingerprint / biometric sensor, like using it to log into web sites.Previously I had a HP PC and it had some software hat made the use of the fingerprint / biometric sensor very good, is there a way to make better use for the fingerprint / biometric sensor on the Thinkpad L512 running Windows 7 64 bit ? regards Christian

Answer:Better use of the fingerprint / biometric sensor on L512 ?

You can use Client Security Solution + Lenovo's Fingerprint Reader software to have it work with browsers (IE and FF, not sure about Chrome).

History: I had to have my X60 Tablet PC serviced recently due to a failed hard drive. When the service was completed and the unit returned I had a hard drive with no operating system.  When trying to use my recover disk that failed as well (that in itself is a different story). I had a licensed version of Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate still in the "shrink wrap" so I used that and installed a clean version of the operating system. I have everything working and functioning except for the Fingerprint sensor.   1.  There is no specific driver from Lenovo for this device (I have checked). I have downloaded the UPEK drivers directly (Manufacturer of said device) but they failed to work as well (www.upek.com). 2.  When searching through the Internet I find many references to the fact that the only way to get the sensor to work is to use the restore disks which were provided. However, as I stated above, that doesn't work for me as well. It seems that this has been a problem for a good period of time. 3.  Last, I have no desire to use the "image" provided by lenovo because the boot time was nearly 15-20 minutes. When I installed a clean version of the OS with the minimum Lenovo drivers the boot time was under 2 minutes. So my question to the forum??? 1.  Is there any solution or are the posts on the various websites correct in that the only way to get this device to work is by using the original image from Lenovo?&nbs... Read more

Answer:X60 Fingerprint Sensor Driver (Biometric) / Vista SP1

I have discovered what has happened. 1.  With a clean install with Windows Vista Ultimate it recognizes the Biometric Sensor as a USB device and installs a driver for it and even shows that it is accepted in the Device Manager. There are also no hardware failures in the event viewer as well. 2.  It was strange but I by chance happen to try the biometric sensor. Windows reported the device had failed and then began installing a new driver (The correct one this time). After 30 seconds it found the driver installed it and then the device functioned just fine. 3.  I did have to uncheck the box that allows Windows to shutdown the device to save power in the Device manager section because on boot up it kept failing to start because of my power settings. Amazing.  I hope nobody else ever has a problem like this....

I set up my brand new W700 with the fingerprint software and all my prints and it worked beautifully.  Then 2 days later my Lenovo external keyboard with fingerprint sensor arrived, I connected it and it couldn't find that sensor with the lid closed on my W700.  I did the updates and installed that Keyboards driver and it eventually worked.  Then I disconnected from my docking station, took the laptop on the road and it told me, the W700 integral fingerprint sensor could not be found. Lenovo support was rather unhelpful, telling me it was my "software" issue.  Their eventual suggestion was a total re-install, which I did because according to them, they don't support Windows XP Service Pack 3.  So, after the rebuild and re-install, I had the internal fingerprint sensor working, and when I re-docked it, the external sensor worked.  I have subsequently undocked the machine and I am back to where I started with a brand new machine that can not find it's internal fingerprint sensor at logon or when I go to ThinkVantage, yet it did ask for a fingerprint swipe for my email password and it accepted it! I know it's there, it's not damaged and I know it works, but Lenovo says it's a software issue, not a hardware one, yet the only hardware I have is theirs and their software drivers!  Any suggestions?

Answer:W700 Fingerprint Sensor Not found after External Keyboard w/Fingerprint sensor is connected

What is the FRU number on the external keyboard w/ FPR you purchased?  I can lookup the FPR vendor from it.
I suspect that the internal FPR and the external FPR are two different vendors requiring two different drivers that are not compatible.

Hi everybody, unfortunately, Lenovo doesn't keep their Firefox-plugin for the ThinkVantage Password Manager working with newer versions -same with other browsers. Or does anybody have a solution or idea for this? Of course, I would prefer to use this solution. I have to login between many people into different online-accounts almost every day and besides ThinkPads great keyboard, the Lenovo-solution to be able to login online by using the fingerprint sensor was one of the most important reasons to choose a TP. Which software do you use for this. You call this biometric single-sign-on I think. Does anybody have a solution or a creative idea? Or is the fingerprint sensor supposed to be only used for OS- and software-logins? My configuration: T430s, Windows 7, Password Manager 4.7, Firefox 57 I would be so greatful if you could help me with this... Thank you, Manuel

HI,I have a T500 (LENOVO 2081CTO ThinkPad T500) running W7 32 bit.  Been working fine since September 10.  Today when simply trying to logon the fingerprint sensor has stopped working.  Laptop had not even been moved, simply resting on desk and then switched on from powered off.A few times since have received message that "USB device is being installed"  with finally "USB Device could not be installed.  There is a problem with your device."  Device Manager showed a problem with "USB Composite device"Powered off/on gave same symptom.Downloaded & installed latest fingerprint software 7wf162ww.exe.  Installed OK.  USB device appeared to then automatically pick up and reinstall correctly.  BUT still unable to use fingerprint to logon or for with Thinkvantage Client Security.Using Thinkvantage Lenovo Fingerprint Software gives error "Cannot communicate with sensor.  Please confirm the sensor is ready."   I've also noticed the keyboard around the fingerprint sensor is very warm, almost hot.  As if it is being constantly turned on? Fingerprint sensor is AuthenTec Inc. My Tecra A9 is less than 2 weeks old. The first day the fingerprint sensor worked for a few hours. I registered three fingerprints. Since then when I swipe my finger, 99% of the time it either does not recognise it or gives a message "too short" even though I follow the procedure shown in the tutorial.

There is a window where you can test the fingerprint sensor by trying to swipe prints. I have asked other two people, different ages and gender, to try it out but very rarely did it successfully register the print.
My call to support was not very helpful as I was threatened with ?35 charge if they do not find anything wrong with the hardware. As a normal user, it is not doing what it says on the tin.

Has anyone had same problem and managed to resolve it. If so, how? If not, are there others in the same situation?

Answer:Tecra A9 - Fingerprint sensor does not work

Hello Aunali

It is very strange. I didn?t notice any problem on my Tecra. Please start ?Fingerprint Control Center? and check the first option there ? ?Fingerprints?. Under ?Enroll or Edit Fingerprints? you will find option ?Run interactive tutorial? with exact explanation how to use fingerprint sensor and how to swipe your finger properly.

To be honest I do not believe you are faced with some hardware or software problem but you must pay attention how you swipe your finger.

Hello!

Some mogels of the Tecra A7 have a fingerprint sensor and some not. How can I find out, if my A7 has a sensor? There is a small quater on the right side of the touchpad, but it has the same color as the notbook case.

Answer:What Tecra A7 supports Fingerprint Sensor

Hi

Where do you come from???
There are many Tecra A7 models available but every model was designed for a certain country or region?

You could visit the Toshiba page from your country and check the area Product -> Notebooks -> Tecra

There you should find different Tecra A7 units and the supported features.
But as far as I know the Tecra A7 with PTA71C number should support finger print reader.

By the way? every notebook dealer who sells the Tecra A7 should provide or offers the right information about the notebook details

I've Tecra M5 with Windows 7, and I'm trying to set fingerprint software (protector suite QL) but old version is not compatible and new (taken from Toshibas site) don't work. It just says "cannot find fingerprint sensor device code 0xe7210005". hardware is integrated.

In system is unknown device ACPI\TOA620A but it can't be updated. Windows don't find drivers and loaded packet (driver_fingerprint_upek_TC00237700A) or (2.19C_package) has no driver that would fit?

Answer:Tecra M5 - Cannot find fingerprint sensor

Hi karikana,

Have you removed the old version of fingerprint software before you installed the new version? Remove it in control panel > uninstall programs and remove the software before you install the new one. Also use a registry cleaner like Ccleaner to clean the registry.

Does fingerprint work with preinstalled OS from Toshiba?

HI,
I have got a problem with my Tecra notebook. The Fingerprint sensor is not working since yesterday. It also disappears from the hardware manager. I tried to reinstall the utility, but the setup.exe won't execute succesfully. When I try to install the Utility directly from the amd64 directory the installation will be succesfully, but the software can't connect to the fingerprint sensor. I also tried to install the original Windows image, but the sensor won't work.

Do you have any ideas?

Answer:Tecra A11-11L - Fingerprint sensor is not working

You could try a BIOS Update and set the BIOS to defaults. If it still doesn't appear in Device Manager, the reader may be faulty or there is a connection problem. I'm guessing the notebook is still under warranty, so you may need to send the notebook to a Toshiba Service Center for repair.

Hello,

I just got a Tecra A7 PTA71E-07600UIT that does have a fingerprint sensor (I've attached a picture of it), I have installed the corresponding software offered by the Toshiba support page. However, when I open the program, it says that no fingerprint sensor was found, that I should connect one via USB. My question is: Has this model the FP sensor or not? If not, why it has the square for it (as you can see in the picture)? Thank you very much in advance.

By device mananger I uninstalled it and then reinstalled drivers auotomaticlly and the message in device mananger was it "working properly" but it does not work!!! I tried to repair its software in control panel ( programs) but it dose not work again.
What is your suggestion?

Answer:Fingerprint sensor of Tecra A8 does not work properly

Hi,

I don?t know which software you installed on your system and how your configuration is, but if you already tried that steps you mentioned then should the next step be a complete recovery of your system with the recovery media which was shipped with your machine.

Don?t forget to backup your data on some external media. ;)

By the way: if the recovery does not help then you should contact a local servicepartner since you have warranty on your machine.

If you really want to find one in your country then click here:

My notebook is less than 3 weeks old and the fingerprint sensor has stopped working.
I just get an error message: cannot find fingerprint sensor device, error code 0xe7210005.
can anyone help?

Answer:Tecra A9 - fingerprint sensor software error

Hi there,

you have not much options. But I can try to give you some hints:

1. Go to the device manager and search for the fingerprint device, so if it?s present, deinstall it and after a restart it should reinstall it by itself.

2. Go to the Toshiba Drivers Download website and download the latest drivers for this device. Install the driver and check if it?s working

3. If really nothing helps then you should recover your machine with the shipped media (or the HDD recovery)

4. The last resort, if everything fails, is to contact the nearest [ASP|http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_whitepaper.jsp?service=EU&WHITEPAPER_ID=0 000000871] in your country and ask them for a hardware checkup and a repair.

Good luck

What notebook model do you have?

Did you download the newest Fingerprint software from the Toshiba European driver page and did you reinstall it?

I mean you should firstly uninstall the old software and then you should install the new one downloaded from the page.

Hi,

I am a new user Tecra S11 (PTSE3E), but old Toshiba user.
After two hours I was using the new laptop, fingerprint software no longer works.
I tried to update the firmware of the sensor AES1660 (now is version 9.0.8.21) but nothing!

The O.S. is Windows 7 Pro, the BIOS version is 2.60, the management hardware says that the sensor is connected and working well.
When I launch the Fingerprint Utility, the message "Can not connect to the sensor" appears.

Has already happened to someone?
Some help? I already contacted support today!

Thanks.

Answer:Tecra S11 - Fingerprint Utility can not connect to the sensor AES1660

Go to the Toshiba Website and download the latest Fingerprint Software, and install it. Also install the latest Toshiba Value Added Package, and disable the Antivirus software in case the software is blocking the Fingerprint installation.

Finger print reader / sensor not working.

Both the device drivers report a code 10 device not working error in the device manager.
In the Fingerprint software, it reportss Fingerprint sensor reported a hardware failure. Code 1066.

Reinstalled drivers and software - problem remains identical.
Used system restore and restored registry - problem remains.

Is this a warranty issue - laptop is less than 1 month old.

Upgraded to 10  1 month ago, felt pressured to do it.  Free upgrade from 7.  Seemed ok at first. Noticed it was not getting updates, finally got Annniversary update to install after couple of tries. Now, my entertainment PC Laptop ( hp dv7 7030us i7 processor 64bit) will not properly load Biometric validity sensor at startup (fingerprint reader) with result of mouse not working well (continually returns to one single screen location, therefore difficult to operate the PC). Finally was able to steer it to Settings, locate the biometric sensor app and disable it.   Mouse instantly works again.   Checked for latest Biometric Validity driver, screen says it is installed. Logitech Mouse driver is current.  Reports are confusing, indicate sensor is running, but it seems to hang the mouse cursor. Another time I got a notice it was not loading, with an option to close it.  Only way I can reliably use the PC is to keep the sensor disabled permanently. Tried resetting the sensor -- disable, then restart, then on; heavy processing still renders mouse useless.   Is there a simple download which will repair without a need to go under the hood?

The "Bio service" in Device manager is enable and working properly. So I'm just lost... Any hint/help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Go to device manager to check if the driver version is 11/xx/2008, if so, unintall it, and then reinstall the fingerprint software from Lenovo.  It will install the driver with version dated 10/xx/2008.  This solved the problem for me.

Question: Fingerprint sensor

I have just got a T500 model 2055-CTO I am running XP SP3 due to company policies. My problem is when I try to register a fingerprint using the ThinkVangate Fingerprint software. The software complains and says that it cannot find my fingerprint sensor. Everything looks okay in the device manager. I have updated my system using the ThinkVantage System Update and all have been updated except for the "Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver for Windows XP/V32" Which keeps poping up when I run the System Update tool. Any Idea why: 1. The finger print sensor cannot be found. 2. Why the Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver keeps poping up. Thank for any help you can provide. /Thor

Hi. Help me to add one user fingerprint data to diferent OS in one laptop. So, i have - HP elitebook 8470p - Synaptics FP Sensors (WBF) (PID=003d) - two OS Win7 and win10 (i can select only one to load) - same user for both OS First i add 2 fingers in one OS, and it work.Next i try to add same 2 fingers to other, but "error - finger already regested". It's mean that theris some other user (i am , already added by other OS) who have the same fingerprints. And i can add it again.  I try several times to fix it.but no result. In the begining was different fingerprint sensor driver and HP securiti software in OSes.Then i install same to both.Make reset fingerprint sensor in bios and delete all fingerprints in hp security. But still no result... This is my curent driver and software:sp72896 Synaptics WBF Fingerprint Driversp74101 HP Client Security Manager (American, International) P.S. in other laptop i have 3 OS!!! Win7+Win7+Win7. Question: Fingerprint sensor

I was very kindly helped by Aca Candy recently with a blue screen problem. Unfortunately I had to have my laptop reformatted. Now for some reason I cannot use the fingerprint sensor. I try to open the program but no luck. I am running vista business, software program is ATSwpNav
and I have a Lifebook P7230.
Incidentally as the notebook is only now 2 months old I did try the supplier an internet seller called Laptops Direct in the UK, they are a total waste of space! Looks like I am on my own??
Anyone wishing to help would be most welcome

I have an x200, type 7454.  The fingerprint sensor does not work--I get the message ""cannot communicate with sensor. please confirm that sensor is ready"  I am running Vista Ultimate.  I have repeatedly loaded and uninstalled the software indicated on the Lenovo website. I have even been to www.upek.com to download a driver there (I believe they manufacture this part for Lenovo), but it still does not work.  I would really like to be able to use the fingerprint sensor, as it is a major part of my new computer system.  I would appreciate any help.  Thanks in advance.

Hi! After my laptop came back from service where a M/B was changed, I decided to reinstall Win 7. After I installed all drivers and utilities back, I found out that my fingerprint sensor was not working - eventually I found out that it is not even in BIOS, as it used to be listed under "security" category as I recall.Any idea what could go wrong?I also have also experienced some troubles to get screen brightness working (older graphic driver was needed) and the blue ThinkVantage button does not work at all.  Model: ThinkPad L420 (7854), WIN 7, 64 bit

Answer:T400 Fingerprint sensor

I think I can help desync. Enter BIOS setup (F1 at boot) head to security menu and then fingerprint.  There is an option to clear the fingerprint chip.  That worked for me when I had what seems to be the same problem.  This was on a machine I reloaded windows on and had set up the FPR previously.  I guess once you set it up the first time the FPR gets tied to that application instance until you clear the chip.

Hi!Here is my first post. it's related to fingerprint sensor. Machine is a T570 "out-of-box" with Win 10 PRO. I ran MS Windows updates then Lenovo updates through Lenovo companion program.I notice after applying proposed fingerprint driver (Synaptics Metallica MOC touch FP driver - V5.2.3515.26)  sensor doesn't work anymore ... To log in I'm forced to use the PIN code or password way. Sensor no longer recognizes my finger. In fact it is the sensor itself that is no longer functional (no light). Obviously before I tried to configure the sensor again but without success ... Using the previous driver through drivers manager, everything works again (5.2.3512)Has anyone had the same problem? Thanks in advanceRegards

So I too am getting the "Cannot communicate with sensor" error in Vista 64-bit. Does anyone have the fingerprint sensor working in Vista 64-bit? I called support but they were convinced it was a hardware problem & directed me to the local support office.  However my machine is setup as a dual boot with Windows Server 2008 64-bit installed as well and the fingerprint sensor works just fine on that side. This convinces me it isn't a hardware issue. I've checked the drivers for the fingerprint sensor & TPM module and they are identical in both OS'. The only thing I've noticed is in Vista 64-bit, the "AuthenTec Fingerprint Service" (ATservice.exe) consistently consumes 30-50% of the CPU according to Task Manager. If I shut that service down, no issues. The only thing going through my mind is Windows Server 2008 does not have A/V running... just a clean install. But I have tried disabling A/V with no success. I've uninstalled everything related to the biometric device and the ThinkVantage software, did a cold reboot, disabled firewall & A/V, reinstalled the ThinkVantage fingerprint software and did a cold reboot. When it came back up, A/V & firewall was still disabled. Same issue... Thoughts?

Hi, I lost finger print functions lately. I thought it might have been new Power Manager 2.51 but I did a system Restore from a point two days ago and Finger Print sensor was still broken. The symptoms are: login screen will always tell me to wait for fingerprint sensor to be ready (which never happens); when trying to enroll new fingerprints it says "cannot communicate with the  sensor"; there is no sensor information utility in control panel classic view. I tried reinstalling fingerprint software and it stays the same. I tried taking the palm rest of T61 and  connecting to W500 and then it did find a new device (biometric co-processor). Connecting original palm rest again didn't change anything. Device Manager has AuthenTec device in it but there is no category for 'biometric devices' (It is there on T61) What to do next?

Answer:Fingerprint sensor problem!

lukaszsw,

For W500 on Vista, in the Device Manager the FPR will be listed under "Personal Identification Devices".

If you continue to have issues that re-installing the device software does not resolve, I would say that this is a perfect time to utilize your warranty and have the palm rest replaced.

I'm willing to figure this out but need help. I did find some info how to go through the procedure once I get into the Bios, just don't know how to boot into Bios. Thanks for any help.

Answer:T500 fingerprint sensor

When the computer is off (not sleep or hibernate), press the power button. As soon as you see the big ThinkPad logo, tap F1 until you see Entering Setup...That gets you into the BIOS. I presume you're going for the "Clear fingerprint data" option?

Hi,

I bought my Qosmio X300 -12H on 3d this month in UK, and just found that it does not have a fingerprint sensor.
As the User's Manual book and the pics on Toshiba website show, the fingerprint sensor should be in the middle of the two touch pad control buttons, but it's not there.
Is there anything wrong?

You can see it in the pic blow.

Answer:No fingerprint sensor on my Qosmio X300-12H?

Are you 100% sure that this Qosmio X300-12H model should be equipped wit the fingerprint reader?
I doubt it.

Fact is that the same notebook series (in your case Qosmio X300) was equipped with different hardware specifications. This means that some X300 can support the fingerprint and some model don?t support this feature.

I have checked the X300-12H details on the page which you have linked in the post above and there is no fingerprint mentioned!

I've read many message boards and tried everything I can think of, but my W500's Fingerprint Reader still doesn't work. I've tried uninstalling, re-installing - doesn't work. I tried downgrading drivers - still nope. Here's what happens. I start the enrollment application. It asks for the Windows password, I provide it. It asks which finger and I select one. Then it tells me: "Cannot communicate with sensor. Please confirm the sensor is ready." I ran the Lenovo toolbox diagnostics on the biometric sensor, and it passed.  Seeing as this is a brand new laptop, I'm a bit disappointed that a major feature like this doesn't work out of the box. I'm open to any ideas on how to make this work. Thanks! Moderator note: Type added to subject line for clarity. Fingerprint sensor problems seem to be common. I've looked through the posts & tried the various suggestions to no avail. Here is the basic info:Thinkpad T510 type 4313-CTOWindows 7 Professional (64-bit)BIOS: 6MET49WW (1.12)Biometric Device driver: UPEK version 1.2.0.194Lenovo Fingerprint Software UPEK 5.9.2.5912 Error message when attempting to enrol a fingerprint:E7210005 Cannot enrol userE7210005 Cannot update passportE7210005 Cannot find fingerprint sensor device The device manager and PC-Tools diagnostics both say that the sensor is working properly. Here is a summary of previous suggestions & ideas of what is causing the problem (no particular order): 1. Windows updates the device driver to a driver that is not compatible with the software:I did a factory install without any internet connection but the problem still occurred. 2. Software confusion between the Authentec and UPEK sensors. The T510 definitely has the UPEK sensor. The device manager lists the driver as being a UPEK driver. The update that was done (point 3) was the UPEK version. 3. Update the driver to the latest available.Did that but the same problem. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the fingerprint software, disable, re-enable, uninstall, reinstall the device in the device manager, deactivate and reactivate it in the BIOS nothing helps. The fingerprint software shows the following error message: E7210005 Cannot find fingerprint sensor device. The device manager shows TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor (WBF advanced mode) with the following status: This device is working properly. Can anyone help me with that? Thanks. Manuel

Answer:Fingerprint sensor problem - X1 Carbon

Reboot and press F1 to enter BIOS setup.
In the security menu, should be an option for fingerprint.
Inside there, choose the option to clear fingerprint reader.  What happens?

I'm currently using the M/S Keyboard with fingerprint sensor, however, it does't 'come alive' during the boot process until the welcome screen comes on. I cannot access my bios nor type any commands during boot up.

Has anyone had any experience with this keyboard? If that's just what it does, I'll replace.

Hello, I have recently purchased a HP ProBook 450 G2 with Windows 8.1 being preinstalled and the possibility to install Windows 10. So I did, but shortly after the installation has finished I realized that the login with fingerprint, respectively the fingerprint function in general, does not work anymore with Windows 10 so this function which I actually paid for became useless.I tried installing HP ProtectTools etc.. but I couldn't find anything for my Notebook model. Also my hotkey for birightness and mute key are not working, i have download the drivers and it aint works.Sometimes i face no voice when i plug headphones. Also i sometimes face that my system shows some graphical lines when i turn my sytems that seems LCD issue, dont know why i am facing these issues with windows 10. When i connect my phone to the USB port, and the lid put down after sometime it aint strat my laptop. Then i have to remove and plug again the battery to start work. Is anyone having the same problem with this model, or is there any solution? Please help

Hello Lenovo Community, yesterday I resetted my windows 10 pro at my E540 and now I have problems to get my fingerprint sensor working to log on windows. I installed the newest "Validity Fingerprint Common Driver for Windows 10" Version 4.5.317 from Lenovo Site but the Windows Hello Fingerprint menu does not appear in the Windows 10 logon Settings. Even after several install and uninstall steps of the driver in the device manager. Before the factory reset of windows all works well. thanks for helping me

Using Windows 7, Fingerprint Sensor is displayed in Devices and Properties indicate device is working properly. But how do I use it? I have a Toshiba Fingerprint Utility but when I click that I get an error window <<Failed to connect to sensor." Since I also don't know how to use this device I am stuck. What to do next? And, by the way, where can I go for a user manual? Is there one? Do I need one? Just bought this as a used computer and it works fine except for the webcam and the fingerprint sensor which is more down to my ignorance about how to use them I guess. Thx.

I formatted my T500, wiped out the vista home basic that came with it and have Vista Ultimate clean installed, then manually installed the drivers(downloaded from the lenovo website). Everything else went fine, but the fingerprint software does not work on boot up, even though I was able to use the lenovo fingerprint software in windows OS. The weird thing is that I could not use the fingerprint device in Control Panel, also the Device Manager recognizes "personal identification device" but not "biometric device" (in the case of my T61 there should be both devices there for the fingerprint sensor to work properly). Another minor problem (may or may not related to this) is that  Fn+Home/End adjusts monitor brightness, but the green on-screen display does not appear. Hotkey/on screen display/interface driver are all installed. When I press the volume up/down key, the on-screen volume display appears (which should mean On-screen display is working, right?). Is there anything I can do to solve the problems? Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I recently installed Windows 7 on a dual boot configuration with Vista on the other partition on my HP dv4 1030ee laptop. Everything seems to work fine and win 7 is great, but there is one important problem. On vista the fingerprint sensor works fine and on windows 7 it is not recognized. i think the drivers are not installed for win 7 and so i did try to find the drivers on hp's website but still it doesnt work. I really want the fingerprint sensor to work on 7 as i use that for logging in to windows...but cant find the Digital persona software and drivers for windows 7. can someone please help me fix this? thanks.

My fingerprint sensor was working fine for a couple of weeks I had this brand-new W541. Today it is suddenly dead. * When I go to BIOS, enter into Fingerprint Sensor settings and ask it to reset stored fingerprint data, BIOS tells me that there's no fingerprint sensor in this machine. * Windows 10 displays Fingerprint Sensor as a hidden device in Device Manager. It says that this device is not connected to the computer. * Additionaly, under USB Devices in Device Manager I now have some unrecognized device listed as "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)". Is there any way to try to revive the fingerprint sensor? P.S. Hardware check in Lenovo Solution Center does not detect any issues with the hardware. But AFAIK it does not even attempt to check the fingerprint sensor.

Answer:Fingerprint Sensor just died in W541

This is a sure sign of hardware failure.  The fingerprint sensor needs to be replaced.  Unfortunately, there is no other way to fix this problem.

I own a nice W510 without fingerprint. The palmrest has already the hole in which the sensors belong.Has already someone done this retrofit? The sensor by it's self can be easily bought. What about the cable to connect it.I would appreciate any help and information.Best regards

It's a while ago, but if I remember correctly the cable from the FP connects to a ZIF connector on the touchpad, the cable should be already in the palmrest (on the inside)

I got an acer travelmate 6465WLMi running 64-bit Windows 7 and after some digging around I managed to get the smartcard and 4 in 1 cardreader to work with drivers from a different travelmate.
Only problem I have now is that I can't find any 64-bit drivers for the fingerprint sensor. When I went to check the first time device manager showed it as an SMSC fingerprint sensor but checking their site didn't help at all, does anyone know a working driver?

*edit*
minor update :
http://www.authentec.com/win7beta64.cfm didn't work although one site mentioned they're used in acer laptops...guess not in mine

Hi, I just did the July update for my t470s, and now my fingerprint sensor has completely stopped working. The light doesn't come on, and it's not recognized in Windows. I do have 2 devices not working in Device Manager now. UCSI USB Connection Manager, and USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller. They both say that Windows cannot verify the digital signatures. What should I do? Thanks,

My fingerprint sensor does not work any longer after update to Win10-64 Version 1607. I am using the latest Win10 build, the latest BIOS Version 1.15 and the latest version of the fingerprint sensor driver (Synaptics Metallica Touch Fingerprint Driver) Version 5.1.311.26 from 14.7.2016. Uninstalling the driver completely and re-installing it helped for one reboot to re-activate it, but this is no stable state, the fingerprint sensor is unavailable after the next reboot. Surprisingly the fingerprint sensor is still offered as a logon option, although iinactive. Soon thereafter there is a message during the final stage of the reboot ('there has been a problem...') and it's completely gone and completely gone. Obviously Win10-64 Version 1607 and the fingerprint driver does not like each other. Any solutions available?

Hi Folks, maybe I'm missing something here - how can I use the fingerprint sensor on my BIOS-Password on the SL300? It should be possible, right? I can't get it to work. Greetingsplant

Answer:Fingerprint sensor for Bios PW on SL300

Well, I don't know if the SL300 (...haven't seen or worked with one till yet) still uses an UPEK based sensor and thus the same ThinkVantage based fingerprint sensor software as the common other Thinkpad notebooks, but in order it does (?), you might read through the folling sort of ThinkVantage PDF user guide, which explains the steps to take in detail. --> http://download.boulder.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/thinkvantage_en/upekmstus.pdf  However, keep in mind to always be very careful when trying out things like setting up BIOS-passwords and the like, so that you still might can access your ThinkPad, even if somethings from the fingerprint software level might have be leaved in a sort of undetermined condition. Also make first sure that your SL300 uses the above mentioned UPEK based sensor and ThinkVantage software. Hope the above link helps at least a little bit?

Hello all, currently I am using the fingerprint sensor only for logging in at Windows but I also tried using it to start up the laptop after pressing the power button. It works great - but I wondered what happens, if the fingerprint sensor fails. Either because it won't recognize my fingerprints or because of any technical issue. Will it be completly impossible to start up the laptop then? And if not - wouldn't the fingerprint sensor be totally useless then? I need the Laptop for daily usage and had a big problem if I couldn't start it because of the fingerprint sensor. Although I'd like to use this additional security feature. Have you had any problems with the sensor so far?

Answer:W520: Fingerprint sensor - what if it's not working?

My sensor works about 75% of the time. Sometimes when I wake it up from sleep, its dead, sometimes its ok. When its working, sometimes it requires one swipe, sometimes 10 swipes - its fairly useless (for my fingers anyway). You can always use the usual passoword login - you dont have to use the FPR - its just for convience.

Hello there. Can someone please help me in my attempt to get my fingerprint sensor operating correctly. I think I have the drivers, however, there doesn't seem to be any way to launch an install program or setup the sensor for use. Please help...I have heard something about "credentials manager" but I can't find that either and also "protech tools" another file/program I just don't seem to have. Please help ???

Answer:Help w/ fingerprint sensor; HP Compaq 6910p...

When did the problem begin, for you? From the onset, and if your computer is new, I suggest that you call HP.

Did you install OS & software from HP disks, or use HP's system recovery, or a set of HP recovery disks?

What is your firewall?

IBM Thinkpad, now Lenovo Thinkpad laptops with fingerprint sensors failed, 18 months ago, with Zone Alarm. About a yr after switching to XP's FW, the finger print reader stopped working. I called Lenovo. They determined that the reader was working, but the software was not working. They offered advice, which failed. AND, because the problem was software, the problem did not warrant a visit by an IBM / Lenovo tech.

You are not alone. Hopefully, this HP forum will help you.
