Tecra A1 No power : Blinking Amber Light

Question: Tecra A1 No power : Blinking Amber Light

My Tecra A1 wont power on. Instead I just get a blinking amber power light.

Things I have tried:
1. Removing the AC adapeter
1a. The Pwr light still blinks : the comp wont turn on

2. Removing the AC adpter and the battery. Inserting the battery and hitting the power button
2a. When I remove the battery the blinking goes away, when the battery is replaced, the comp wont turn on

3. Removing power cord, and batttery : reattaching battery then power cord - hitting power button
3a. Right when I reattach the power cord, the power button starts blinking amber. Power button does nothing.

The light only blinks (or does anything for that mater) when the power cord is in.

In advance, thanks for the help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Tecra A1 No power : Blinking Amber Light

Hi

Try to start your Tecra without battery just connected on power supply.

It is possible that here is some problem with battery. If the Power supply microcontroller detects an error the DC IN lamp sends a blinking code. Reading this code it is possible to know what the problem is.

If you think that battery is defect contact service partner.

Hi guys,

I have a Tecra M1 which starts up with a double beep which goes on for around a count of 28 or 30. Meanwhile light between the power and battery lights blinks at a rate of around 6 seconds on and 6 seconds off. Nothing else happens.

Where can I get information about the error codes as displayed by these symptoms?

Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks

Answer:Blinking amber light and double beep on start up - Tecra M1

Hello

Unfortunately there is no public document about those codes. What happen when you try to start your Tecra without battery and connected to AC power supply only?

What I know for sure is that when the microcontroller detects some defect in power supply the blinking code will be sent. You can not do anything alone. Contact service partner in your country and ask what the best solution is.

I have an N22 chromebook that when plugged into a known good power adapter, the charging light blinks amber.  Nothing appears on the screen, so it appears to be dead.  Pressing power does nothing.  Can anyone recommend something for me to try to revive, or is this unit done for?

System will not power on at all, and the power light displays the dreaded blinking amber light. It's getting no power at all, and the PSU has been ruled out because I tested the machine with another known working PSU. I have also reseated the RAM, video card, and CPU as well as reseating all power cables and still nothing. I'm trying to find another socket 775 P4 for testing, but haven't come up with one yet. Am I looking at a defective MOBO here, or does anyone have any other troubleshooting ideas?

Thanks,

Anthony

My mom gave me a Dell Dimension 4700 computer that was acting up. She said it would turn it's self off randomly and she thought it was a virus. When I brought the computer to my place, it powered on once, then I went to turn it on again and nothing. No lights, no power what so ever. So after doing some research I bought a new power supply for it. I just replaced the power supply and plugged the computer in and now there is a blinking amber light in the front and a solid green light on the motherboard but it won't turn on. I have checked all of the connections and they are properly seated. Any ideas what is causing the problem?

My laptop is almost 12 months old.  2 weeks ago the power light (on front of case) started blinking -- 1 white, 4 amber, repeated continuously -- when A/C power cord plugged in and battery has a charge.  Same if I unplug A/C power cord and run only on battery. (Bios show battery is "Normal" and icon tray shows battery is fully charged.)  Power light is constant white when I remove battery and power only with A/C cord. I called Dell Tech Support and they told me that this is not a problem with battery and that my laptop is properly functioning.  Blinking light would seem to indicate otherwise.  I would appreciate any insights that anyone might have, in particular if you have encountered this same problem.  Thank you.

Answer:Inspiron 1545 Power Light Blinking White/Amber

Hello again
Thank you so much for replying. YES, when I disconnect the battery and only run on A/C power the light stays white.
So, I will have to get a new battery which is quite expensive as I am no longer under warranty. I hardly ever use it, only to move the laptop from one room to the other. I pretty much use it like a "desktop". I have been putting up with the annoying light for a couple of weeks now, sometimes I disconnect the battery just to get rid of the annoyance, but it has been windy/stormy weather here and we are known to have occasional power outages, so I rather keep it in.
Anyways, thank you so much for posting your issue and writing back. I appreciate it

My refurbished dell optiplex GX280 worked fine until a month or so ago when I moved it to another room in my home. When I powered up, the power light was blinking amber. I tried all of the options that did not require buying new parts du to financial reasons, so it's sat since then.

I just decided to look at it again and powered it on. Everything seemed to start OK but no dispay. The diagnostic lights indicated faulty memory. I then located and removed the faulty DIMMM, and it started right up.

About ten minutes later the computer shut off by itself back to the blinking amber power light.

Any info would be appreciated Thank you. :grinthumb

I think only ASP's have this kind of information.

If you have tried different memory, and tried the memory in different slots, its probably a Mainboard problem.

I have a Dell XPS 13 that had the motherboard replaced a few months ago.  When attempting to boot the front led blinks amber twice, then white twice repeatedly. The device will start up but never boots to the dell logo or the Windows OS. This is with the AC plugged in and also with the internal battery plugged in.  After a few months, I had the same issue with the laptop yesterday.  Is there another issues other than the motherboard or could it be that the "refurbished motherboard" came from another defective Dell XPS 13 9350?

Does the screen gets stuck at Dell logo?
Are you able to boot to "advanced boot options? by pressing F8?
Also run the diagnostics by pressing the F12 during startup and let me know the results.

I am experiencing some difficulty with my desktop computer. It is a Dell Vostro 220s, Windows XP SP3, 3GB ram, 250GB hard drive. A couple nights ago we had a power outage. I get up the next morning to find my desktop off (I usually leave it on). I go to turn it on and the power light comes on blue, like normal, and the fans kick on. However, after a second or two, it turns amber and begins blinking.

I googled what the potential problems could be and how to troubleshoot it. I'm assuming based on my search results that it is a power-based failure of some kind, typically either the power supply or the motherboard.

I came across this while I was searching: ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-prod..._desktop/vostro-220s_service manual_en-us.pdf

I went in later to use the computer and it was blinking amber, no fans were running, it was quiet. I have unplugged the power source for 24 hours...nothing has improved. A blinking amber power light, usually indicates a power supply issue.
See page 14 Here:
ftp.dell.com/.../xps-700_Owner%27s%20Manual_en-us.pdf
What is the reading of the four Diagnostic lights, located on the front panel, or are they off?
See pages 15 and 61 of the owners manual.
The best method to check the power supply, is to replace it with a known working unit, to see if this makes a difference.
The power supply is a Dell proprietary unit, with a 24-pin and 20-pin motherboard power connectors, there are no compatible retail power supplies available.

Gday guys,

On Thursday it was the last day of school.
During the last lesson of the day, i was using the laptop to play games (Toshiba Sat Pro 6100, 1.6ghz) when the bell went. I tried shutting it down in time however running in battery mode, it went down to 1ghz and was fairly sluggish shutting the game so i immediately turned it off by holding down the button for a few secs.

I put it into my new belkin computer case which has thick foam padding and went home by bus. When i finally got home i plugged in the laptop and tried booting up. The screen did not work for some reason so i tried pressing the light button a number of times to no avail. Reset the computer a few times, still nothing. I wondered if it was the hard drive from not shutting it down properly earlier that day but i could still blindly log on to windows. It puzzled me as to why the screen was not turning on. I presumed a cable was loose so i took off the keyboard and checked the cables on the graphics card. They were in fine. Put the keyboard back on and attempted to start the laptop.

The blinking amber light shone in its ugly glory. Something was wrong. I left the laptop alone and got dad whos an electrical engineer to check over the laptop for any obvious things which could be causing this problem. Dad Couldnt see anything.

Before, i read a post about reseating the graphics card may work so i reseated the graphics card and tried booting up. Still nothing!!!

What the heck is going on?

Answer:Sat Pro 6100: Blinking Amber Light

If the Amber light is shining on the AC adapter LED then you have a fault. It could either be with the adapter or the machine its self. If by removing the battery and adpater, leaving for 5-10 minutes and then plugging it all back and trying to restart the machine doesn't resolve the issue then it is definately faulty. I would suggest you speak to your reseller or a service agent, Toshiba certified and get them to have a look for you.

My C660 is around 15 months old now and has had no additions/software etc since purchase from Argos, and is mostly run from the mains.

However a few months ago I noticed that the front left (DC IN/Battery) LED light was flashing amber, and the right (green Power) LED had switched off completely - despite being plugged into the mains.

I corrected it by unplugging/plugging the mains lead back into the laptop, but the problem has persisted over the past few months. I can eventually get the battery to charge but sometimes it takes several attempts to do so, and the light even changes from solid orange to flashing orange mid-charge (which then involves another unplug/plug). However I don't get the "Plugged in, Not Charging" message.

When I get the amber flashing it simply lists the remaining power and continues to lose it, despite being plugged into the mains.

Could this possibly be a bad or ropey connection in the power supply cable? Probably the AC adaptor cord?

Yes, it could be possible that the connection between the AC adaptor and notebook power chord is loose or maybe the power cord on the motherboard malfunctions.
Its really difficult to say what could be exactly wrong.

I think in first step you should check if the AC adaptor is OK. The notebook should be tested with new good working AC adaptor. If the issue would still appears...well then the motherboard needs an check?

Hi there,

I have a Dell xps 9100 that's got issues.

At the moment, when I try and boot it up I get a flashing amber light with beeping. Two beeps every few seconds.

I have tried:
Removing and reseating RAM several times, removing video card and reseating, clearing cmos with jumper, unseating and reseating the cmos battery, unplugging dvd drive and checking the connections all to no avail.

I had this happen a couple of days ago, once. I powered off and powered back on and it just worked but today, not so much.

I noticed earlier today that my system was only showing 8gigs of ram when I have 12 installed. I'm on Windows 7 premium and the system can take up to 16. It came with 12 so i've never upgrated the RAM

Prior to all of this I've had "blue screen of death" issues but that seems to have resolved with some recent updates.

It's probably a long shot but anybody have any ideas that I can try? I'm hoping its not the motherboard but things are not looking good.

Thanks!

Answer:Amber blinking and beeping light, no boot-up

Two beeps generally does indicate a RAM issue.

If me, I would pull all but one stick of RAM and run like that for a bit and see what happens. If nothing (no problems), swap sticks and try again until you have tried each separately and [hopefully] identified the bad stick.

You can also test all your RAM at once using one of the following programs. Both require you to create and boot to a bootable floppy disk or CD to run the diagnostics. Allow the diagnostics to run for several passes or even overnight. You should have no reported errors.

Windows Memory Diagnostic - see the easy to follow instructions under Quick Start Information,
or
MemTest86+ (for more advanced users) - an excellent how-to guide is available here,
or
Windows 7 and Windows 8 users can use the built in Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool. Vista users can test with Vista's Memory Diagnostics.
HOWEVER, note that software based RAM diagnostic tools are good, but not conclusive. They are good at detecting obviously bad RAM, but they can report RAM is good but the RAM still refuses to work when installed, or may test good but refuse to work when paired with other sticks. So running with just a single RAM module/stick to see if it fails may still be the best test - short of replacing all the RAM.

Note for future reference, clearing the CMOS with the jumper and unseating and reseating the CMOS battery do the same thing - reset the BIOS. You only need do one or the other.

I have a new Dell XPS 13. When attempting to boot the front led blinks amber twice, then white twice repeatedly. The device never boots to the dell logo. This is with the AC plugged in and the battery test showing no issues.

Answer:Blinking white + amber light on front of XPS 13

Please list exactly your Dell model. Example: Dell XPS 13 9350
Secondly, I like to suggest you try the steps below
A) Disconnect all peripherals(printer, external drive, etc...) from computer
B) Power off computer
C) Unplug the AC adapter from computer and wall socket
D) Press and hold in the "Power On" button for 15 seconds then release
E) Plug in the AC adapter into the wall socket, then the computer
F) Press the "Power On" button. Hopefully your computer run normally

If those steps didn't work then I like to suggest you run the Diagnostic tool on your computer to scan for hardware problems.
A) Power off computer
B) Power on computer, quickly tap the F12 key continuously. You should be in the Diagnostic screen. Please list any error codes.

I was given an Inspiron 620 tower that won't boot.  There's no light of any kind associated with the power button on the front of the case, but the amber light on the motherboard (near the SATA ports) blinks.  The power supply tests OK, so I'm wondering if  the problem is likely to be anything fixable besides it being a bad board.

I'm a computer repair novice, so please be gentle with me.

I have an older Dell Dimension 8400 that won't power up. I came home a couple of days ago to find the power button blinking amber. When I push the power button nothing happens. If I press and hold it down, the blinking stops and the computer completely powers down. However, if I press the power button again, it just blinks amber and won't power up.

I have tried unplugging the computer and keeping it unplugged for several hours, both when the light is blinking and when the light is not blinking. Once I plug it back in and push the power button, the amber blinking starts again.

I read in a couple of forums that the problem could be the PSU, so I replaced the PSU with brand new one. This did nothing to solve the problem. When the light is blinking amber, there is solid green light on the motherboard.

Should I replace the motherboard or junk the computer and purchase a new one? Or is there another possible solution to my problem?

This problem happened once before a couple of weeks ago. After pressing the power button numerous times and tapping the keyboard in between, the computer did finally power up, and a message briefly appeared on the screen that read, preparing to hibernate, before it powered up. I did recently activate the hibernate options on the computer, and I realize now that I shouldn't have done so with a desktop.

You may have had a power surge during the day that possibly damaged the XPS power supply. Did you try unplugging it from the wall and waiting 10 seconds or so. then plugging it back in? Is it connected through a surge protector? If so, try plugging the computer directly into the wall plug

Hello,
My XPS 13 started to act out pretty strange today. It seems like it doesn't not use battery at all, thus I can only boot it up when it's plugged to the charger. The battery indicator shows that it's NOT charging the battery, and it's stuck at 48%. When I disconnect it from the charger while it's running, it turns off immediately, and the only way to boot it up is to plug it back again. Additionally, the light indicator below the touchpad is blinking rapidly (~3-4 blinks per second) with amber light, both when I'm in OS as well as already on Dell splash screen during boot.
Any ideas on what might be going on ? I have bios 1.3.3 which I updated around April.

Hello there,

Hi friends, I'm using Dell Studio 1558 and recently bought an original battery online and I dont know the authenticity of that battery. Also before changing the battery, I had a hard disk crash and changed a new hard disk.
Now at times, I'm getting amber and white light flashing. Its getting corrected if I restart the system.
Can anyone let me know the meaning of this flashing amber and white lighting?

Answer:Amber and White light blinking. What is the meaning of that signal?

" recently bought an original battery online and I dont know the authenticity of that battery "

It's a possibility the flashing amber/white light means battery is low and isn't being charge. I like to suggest you check the status of the battery and AC adapter in the BIOS.
1. Power off computer, and then make sure AC adapter is connected to computer well
2. Power on computer, quickly start tapping the F2 key continuously, you should be in the BIOS screen.

Under the main screen, look for the AC adapter type. If the adapter says None or Unknown then it's an issue with the adapter. Suggest you replace AC adapter.
Under the Advanced screen, look for Battery Health, it should say "This Battery Is Performing Normally". If there's any other message, it could mean that the battery is faulty and needs replacement.

Note: If you indeed need replacement, please get a new genuine Dell battery that comparable with your system.

The Dell in question will not boot up. The power light has a blinking amber light. I googled for information for troubleshooting lights on the power supply and it could be a power supply failure, bad motherboard, or bad hard drive. I turned it off, unplugged everything, then rebooted. Nothing. There are two lights by the ethernet port that are normally green and now one is red and the other is amber. I personally suspect it is the power supply because the fan does not come on.

The machine is a Dell Dimension 4700C, Intel Pentium 4, running Windows XP. Can anyone be more specific? The machine is no longer under warranty so we'd have to decide if getting the computer repaired is better than the purchase of a new one. Thank you!

I tested them one by one and there was no sign of them working, the screen stays point blank. I am now sure of my suspicious that PSU and Motherboard are fried. The machine has been with my buddy for more than two years. Before i dumped it, please Is there any more advice or something else i did not do?

thanks in advance

I have an older dell dimension 4600 that was given to me. It seemed to be working good until while I was using it it suddenly went off and the screen went blank. The only sign of life is an amber blinking lite on front. I took it apart and looked inside. There is only a green lite on that connects to the pwr switch. I disconnected everything but the hard drive & RAM but nothing else happened. Where do I start with this??
Thanks for any suggestions.

Answer:Solved: sudden black screen & blinking amber light

Disconnect everything (including add in cards, drives) but the processor and 1 stick of ram, is the light still amber? Try the other stick of ram if it had more than 1. Still amber? If so you have either a bad power supply, bad motherboard or processor.

Hi,

I have a Dell Optiplex 780 and when I went to power it up the other night it did not power up.  I'm getting a solid amber light for the power button and lights 2,3, and 4 are blinking above it.  Any idea what this means?

Answer:Dell OptiPlex - Solid amber light, lights 2,3,4 blinking

According to the 780 Service Manual page 13,
Solid Amber Power Light = Second state of the light at power up. Indicates the POWER_GOOD signal is active and it is probable that the power supply is fine. Look at the diagnostic lights for further information.
Page 15 shows that 2/3/4 = A possible USB failure has occurred. Disconnect and reconnect every USB device, then try to power on.

I just turned my PC off last night and tried to boot up this morning, only to find the power light blinking amber! I've tried unplugging, holding the power button, testing in a known-good outlet, and all that. It still stays the same. I've not had a single issue with this computer until now. Answer:Dimension 5150/E510 not powering up (blinking amber light)

That generally indicates a PSU problem, but it can also be caused by the motherboard. If you have a spare PSU, I would try that.Peter

Hello -
I hope Bev is still around as she has been so helpful to me in the past.  I have and 8400 that shut off while I was working.  I thought the power to the house went out...but it was just my computer.  Blinking amber light on the power button, no diagnostic lights in back.  Tried to start up, nothing.  Read posts here about it and tried removing CMOS for 10 minutes, removing PCI cards and disconnecting all power and connections from drives to MB (no change...still blinking light, nothing else), then did the jumping test from green to black (yes, I probably should have done that first...) and got nothing on that.  No fan, nothing.
Can I definitely say it is the PSU?  If so, is the PSU from a 2400 interchangeable with this one?  If it isn't, are there particular brands I should look for or stay away from when purchasing a new PSU?

Thanks so much!

Answer:Dell 8400 blinking amber light won't start, no diagnostic lights

Blinking Amber means Bad Power Supply.
This particular model needs tin snips to cut a hole in the back for a regular power supply.  If you buy the startech model it will fit without requiring case modification.
Or you can buy one from an OEM vendor.
The 400 Watt ATX12V 2.01 Dell PC Power Supply is compatible with standard ATX style versions of following: Dimension Series Models: 1100 / 2200 / 2300 / 2350 / 2400 / 4300 / 4400 / 4500 / 4550 / 4600 / 8200 / 8250 / 8300 / 8400 / B100 Optiplex Series Models: 170L / GX60 / GX150 / GX240 / GX260 / GX270 Power Edge Series Models: 400SC / 600SC Precision Workstation Series Model: Model 340 / 350 Smart Step Series Models: 100D / 150D

Hello,

I have recently gained a Tecra A7 but without a battery or power adapter.
I purchased a power adapter (15V, 6.0A) and plugged it in.

Whenever I try to power the laptop, the only response I receive is the battery light flashing orange 11-12 times.
Note: I do not have any battery plugged in.

Could this be the problem?

Does anyone know a solution for this problem I'm experiencing?

Kind Regards,
Cheers,
KrisK

Answer:Tecra A7 - battery light flashes amber many times

Hello

If there is no hardware problems notebook must run with AC power supply only and without battery.
Of course we don?t know if this notebook is defective or not but fact is that you use, according Tecra A7 specification, right AC adapter.
If you can see flashing power led only it can be that power supply electronic is defective and need to be checked by authorized service provider.

Sorry but on this virtual way it is not easy to say more than that.

I have a Latitude 7350 with Win8.1 that has an official charger. Despite this, Windows says Battery 1 is charging but Battery 2 is "plugged in, not charging". Also, when I plug in my charger instead of the normal steady white light, I now get a blinking light that alternates between white and amber. This does not happen when I detach the tablet and charge the tablet. The tablet will then give a steady white light.
I have tried using Windows 10 and I tried doing a factory reset but to no avail.

My computer was down when I came back from lunch and could not get it to come back on.  If I hold the power button down for about 7 seconds it blinks orange but there is not noise from the fan coming on or post beep.  Also the green light on the back is not on either. All of the other equipment sharing the same power strip come on but not the desktop so it is not the power strip.  I also tried to set it up in another office on a completely different circuit and still does the same thing. What should I try next?

Answer:OptiPlex 790 Wont power on power light blinks amber

Which form factor, desktop, mini-tower, small form, ultra-small form?
From the (desktop) manual: Blinking amber light indicates a problem with the system board.
Are any of the 4 diagnostic LEDs on when it won't boot? ,They're on the front of the PC next to the power button. Look up error codes in the manual.
Possible power supply failure if the green light is off on the back. Can you try a different power cord? What happens if you push the power supply diagnostic button on back of PC next to that (green) power light?

Has anyone else with this model been experiencing issues with the PC shutting down, and then blinking orange amber light on the front?
We have 100 of these and had this problem on a few of them. The blinking pattern is 2 then 1, which Dell says is system board failure. But resetting the power fixes it till it happens again. The first time it happened we replaced the PC, and the same thing happened. So we replaced the power adapter, and the same thing happened. Then we took a whole new PC out of a box and finally that person didnt have the issue again. But now someone else is.

The Fan for the PSU does turn on for a sec when I turn it on, but nothing other than that, I had the PSU in to check if it was broken and I was informed it was not broken.
the 4 pin and 24 connector are both connection to the motherboard, and so are the cords for the HDD and DVD drives and graphic card, so not sure at where I could have screwed up?

I have an Optiplex 390 (actually 3 with similar behavior...).
PC would not power on. I did the power test and determine the Mobo was the issue.
I replaced the Mobo with a new one. Still can't power from front power button, but if I go at the back to the power supply 'power test button' and press on it the full PC comes on with all fans everything, but front power button is amber. And I get nothing on display, fans stay full speed. I can turn off, by pressing the from power button for a few seconds.
I tried using the CPU from another of the 3 PCs that had similar power issues and pointed to Mobo.
I reconnected all cables, tried different RAM modules, different video card, nothing makes a difference.
Not sure where to look now.

Answer:Optiplex 390 Amber power light, but all power looks good

Assuming that you replaced the motherboard then it likely is the power supply has had it you'll need to buy a new one.

Hi. Tonight I had a problem with my laptop. It was in sleeping mode, and when I open the lid there were no mouse function and no touch screen function. So the only thing I could do was to press the power button for 3 seconds to turn it off, but it didn't completely, because the screen turn off, but the power button light is blinking just like when it is on sleep mode, and I'm not sure if the hard drive light was on, off or blinking before this, but now is blinking. I press the power button and nothing happen, I press it for 3 seconds and nothing happen. I even did the HDMI connection to another monitor, but both monitors don't show anything, not even recognize that something is connected to the HDMI port in the new monitor. There is no sound, nothing, just the 2 blinking lights. What should I do? Thanks PS: I'm not sure if it's Windows 10 32-bit or 64-bit. It was upgraded from Windows 8

I have a HP desktop model p6142p case that had a failed motherboard (bad capacitors). After replacing the power supply and a motherboard with one from a DELL Inspiron 546 (because it was only $30 on amazon), the PC functions just fine with one exception: The power light in the HP case instead of normally being blue is amber. I'm not sure if this is indicates an issue or if there's simply an incompatibility with the dell motherboard and the HP power light. There are no known errors from post (single beep on bootup). The case power light is initially blue for about a second when the PC is initially powered on, but immediately turns solid amber from then on. I have ran Dell's online PC diagnostics which detects the PC as an Inspiron 546 with UNKNOWN service tag and reports no hardware issues.

Should I ignore the solid amber light and go on or should I be concerned?

display the same way as the HP.
Might make it difficult to see that the

About a month ago I found my computer tower was still 'on' but the screen was black and the green power light on the tower had turned amber. The light wasn't blinking, it was steady. I had to hold the power button down to get it to shut down and restart. It happened yesterday again, when I hadn't been near it for awhile, and that time and the time before I had FF up with stuff to look at later so I thought it was going into standby mode or something, except that it happened again about 20 minutes ago while I was using it. No odd noises before the light changes color either. Although, I have heard a couple odd noises that might be coming from the tower in the last little while. It sort of sounds like a phone set to ring on pulse, but it is pretty quite and two quick rings of two pulses about 5 minutes apart. It seems to be fine after restarting.

Preliminary ideas as to what could be causing this? I've done some basic research and have read that it could be the power supply. I will also say that each time it has happened the computer has been on for over 10 hours before hand.

It is a dell (can't mind model # right now) and is running Windows XP home.

Hi & Thanks for reading my question,

I have a Dell e510 I am trying to fix for a friend. When power is turned on, the power light flashes green for an instant, then continues to flash amber. Nothing at all appears on the monitor. It goes to flashing amber in a sec or 2.

I have unplugged all the components and removed the memory so that I have just the motherboard and video card. I have replaced the Power supply. I have remocved the CMOS battery. Still having the problem. Is it possible that a bad or no hard drive (I have the power unplugged to the hard drive at this point). Would cause a Dell E510 not to POST.

Hi,

Trying to set up the Netgear WNDR3400 router with my Roadrunner modem. I have an ethernet cable running from the router to my laptop.

The laptop shows that there is not any kind of network access--not LAN, not Internet. Needless to say, I am unable to get to the wireless setup.

I notice that the power light on the router is a solid amber (orange). The 2.4GHz radio light is solild green, the 5GHz radio light is solid blue, the LAN light if off, the wireless light is solid amber, and the four ethernet port lights are all solid green (I am using one port to connect to my laptop).

I tried resetting the router several times. I tried power cycling the modem, router, and laptop several times. Nothing worked. It just seems to me that the Netgear router is dead on arrival.

Is my suspicion correct? Or are the other possibilities?

Thanks!

Answer:wndr3400 router solid amber power light

Hi

The Green for 2.4ghz and Blue for 5ghz are perfect and normal, the orange light is a bit worrying as it should turn to green in less than 1 minute, and if you have powered it off a few times and also reset to factory default a few times I would suspect the unit is indeed faulty, so exchange for a new one. (the Netgear manual on pg 32 also confirms this HERE)

Just as a thought, have you plugged in a Ethernet cable from PC to router and tried to access the routers control panel, then maybe try a router firmware update? but as its likely new why should you go through these motions.

Hello,

I am dazed with this problem. Trying to find the solution on all the forums.

My brother owns a Dell Desktop computer and suddenly it stopped working.

- The Power button light is flashing continuously.
- The green light on the motherboard is perfectly on.
- The port light where the telephone wire goes and the usb port next to it on the motherboard is blinking continuously.
- The processor is not starting.
- If I remove the power cord, the lights mentioned above and same for 15 seconds.

What must be the possible problem.

MAny Thanks in advance

Karthik

Answer:Dell PC not starting: amber flashing power light

You would be dazed again, because this is probably caused by a failing power supply. The blinking power button is a good clue. The green LED on the motherboard simply means that you have a power cord plugged in... It could be a bad motherboard too, but power supplies are easier to replace and cheaper to start with

Answer:F1904 Monitor flashing amber power light

amber usually means sleep mode. flashing can mean different things. Disconnect the video cable, turn it off, pull the power plug, wait 10 seconds, plug it in and turn it on. Press the OSD buttons to see if you can bring up the on screen display. If that comes, up try connecting it again. Hopefully the PC is not sending out a bad video signal.

I have A Dell Dimension 4400. It's been a pain in the butt to power on lately. Mainly I keep it on. Every now and then my video display screen goes wacky and the resolution changes by itself and the icons get BIGGER.. So I reboot..

It takes 15 - 20 tries to get started (thats just why I leave it on).. Nevertheless, the power light seems to stay yellow and I simply walk away. 15 -20 min later it just boots up. No idea why it takes so long..

Well about 2hrs ago the display went nuts. Lost all the color. I took apart the PC and not surprised, The video card was very LOOSE (almost out) I took EVERY connection inside the PC apart and cleaned them. I reseated every cable & card in the system. Everything's nice and tight.

I go to reboot (power up) and the Yellow (amber) light comes on the power botton. No beeps, No green lights, all 4 lights on the back of the PC are Out, No fans run, no CD light, No CD power. Just a Yellow (amber) solid light on the power button.

At this point I open back up the box and take put the button cell battery (waite 10 min) then put back. I took ALL the connections off for the second time, and all is tight. I power up, same thing. Yellow (amber) light. No beeps no nothing.. I even changed out power cords and different outlets..

The Power Supply fan is about 1yr old (i'm sure that means nothing) About the only thing I dident do is the Jumper test for Power Supply..

Any thoughts?
Thanks

Answer:Dell Dimension 4400 yellow (amber) light NO POWER

PSU or motherboard issues. Sound to me like dead PSU but the fact that you have the amber light on the front says that you are getting some sort of powerfrom your PSU.

1. Test your PSU with a multi meter. A good guide can be found here

2. Look on your motherboard for the green power LED that identified that your MB is getting power (Note: it usually a small rectangular LED not a big traditional round one).

If your PSU has power on the 24pin ATX connector and the power LED on your MB is out you have a dead MB

3. It could simply be that the power push button has become disconnected, is broken or is on the wron connector. Consult your motherboard manual to find out what pins it should be connected to. make sure it is connected properly. If it is connected properly remove the connecter and short the two pins with a paper clip (This has the same effect as pushing the push button) and it should boot your PC.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: I you dont have you MB manual post you make and model and we will do the rest!!

Hello, I don't know allot about computers, but each time i turn on the computer it goes to power save mode.
It asks me to press any buttons or click the mouse, i do but nothing happens, neither the mouse or keyboard light up as they use to, only for a slight second once its turned on, then it goes away. The little bulb on the back of the tower is steady green and i use a vga cable. I'd like to know how to fix this problem so I could use the computer.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 570 - power save mode/amber light

Blinking Amber = Bad power supply.
Solid Amber = Dead motherboard.

Hallo!

As a total DELL-Lover I only have such Machines around.
I just wanted to build up a OP 760 for my little son.

When I plug the power cort, the diagnostic LEDs 2 3 4 keep flashing while the power LED is amber.
System has only orgiginal DELL components, no add-on cards.

I checked out two CPU types:
intel E8600 and E7300

Also, I tried without any CPU - then, the diagnostic lights for a missing CPU light up.

I would be so perfect if there would be any solution for this.

Anyone knows how to fix that?

Did some searching on here and tried a couple of things. Turned computer on earlier and just got a black screen and two green lights on front. Turned off power from back(because power button on front didn't work), powered back on and an amber light came on and green light on the right. I can hear the fan running and I can open doors on my disc drives so i'm thinking it's not the PSU, plus I had replaced that from the original one when it failed a couple years ago. Another person suggested a motherboard test so I removed all the cards and disconnected all the drives like they said, powered back up and the solid amber light is now solid green. What can I try next?

Hello, Last month a message from lenovo power manager software pops up on the laptop, saying something like my power adapter needs to be replaced it is not providing enough. It continued to work for a few days before stop charging at all. When I plugged in to AC power, my Yoga would start charging for 2 seconds and stop. If I took out the plug and reconnect, it just did the same and not charge. While plugged in, the laptop charging icon disappears after the 2 initial seconds and the power light on my pc flashes steadly on/off amber. I managed to order this power adapter here before out of battery. When I received the adapter my Yoga started charging again with no problem. The next day however, my screen went black and stop working. Warrenty out dated, so I openned the machine and found a loose screw from the fan, put it back and by magic the screen is working again. The next day I plug in my laptop, let it charges for a few hours. When I turn it on the charging icon disappears again. Same thing as before, not charging with flashing amber light. I noticed that when unplugged, the light would go to solid white like normal. So I have 70% battery left before I feel like just throwing this thing in the trash! I couldn't find anybody with the same problem. I was wondering if updating the BIOS could help but when I tried a message came up "Please plugin and try again", Great...! Someone please help!

Answer:Yoga 2 13 - stopped charging - power light flashing amber

Hi pjz,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I would suggest try isolating if Battery or AC is causing this problem.

First is to try removing the battery on your Yoga
Here's is a simple guide.
https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Lenovo+Yoga+2+13-Inch+Battery+Replacement/39456

Now while there is no battery Try plugging your adapter and try turning the computer ON.
It should power up using only the AC adapter.

If it did not.
Your problem lies with the the power System, COuld be the charging port. Try observing the Port or follow the wire that runs to it.

If the computer power up without the Battery in it, without any problem. This is a problem with your battery.

Let me know your findings
Regards
Solid Cruver

Green LED on the back just means power is available not that power supply is ok.

hello,

my friend is having a problem with a netgear n600 wireless dual band gigabit router WNDR3700v3 in that it will not connect to the internet. When you power it up, the power light stays amber. this used to work before but something happened and we are not sure what happened but now it does not work.. I went thru the automatic setup again and that does not correct it.

we contacted the netgear support and the lady had me do a ipconfig and we could not see any ip addresses. she said that the interface settings were corrupt.

the router is out of warranty and to have her correct it, my friend would have had to re-activate the warranty at 199.00 for a two year unlimited plan or a 1 year unlimited plan for 129.00. he did not want to do that.

I am hoping that by submitting this to the forum, we could get this router fixed. I have a linksys router and that is what I will be using to communicate to the forum. my friend has this router hooked to a hp desktop running windows 7. if you tell me to do something with the router, I will have to disconnect my linksys router from my dell windows xp machine and hook it to the netgear.

please let me know if there is anything that you need from me in order to help in correcting this.

thank you in advance for the help

I was on my computer one morning and we happened to have a power flash, quickly on and off. Afterwards i turn on my computer, everything comes normally, gives me the safe boot option, i start up windows 7 log in and it freezes, on a side note that is very unusal. I've had my setup for a month now and not 1 freeze. Afterwards anytime i attempt to turn on my computer the monitor stays amber and nothing shows, no bios nothing. I've tried tried multiple things such as replacing the power supply, running bare minimum (1 stick of ram, cpu, cpu fan and power supply without graphics card installed), Ironically im in a nerdrage rush to get it fixed by 11p.m. central time tonight, a new game i've been preparing for with new comp upgrades and such for months comes out on midnight and i very much so intend to be there for it.

my computer specs:
890GPA-UD3H Motherboard
3.3 dual core am3 socket processor
9800gt xlr8 nvidia graphics card
2 sticks of 2 gig 1333mhz ddr3 ram
600w Power supply
500 gig sata harddrive

im running windows 7 professional 64x

i was running a 480w power supply when the power flashed, i bought a 600w today.

I have a dell dimension 8100 that has been powerleaped from a 1.7 to a 2.5.  I recently upgraded the RAM from 256 PC 800 RDRam to 512.  I also have upgraded from a GEForce 2 Ultra to a GEForce 4 Ti4600 quite a while back.  Everything has been working great until the last week or so and I am at a loss here.  I used to leave my computer on all the time 24/7 with reboots here and there when I needed to.  Well, after I lost the fan on my Video card I started to turn it off.  After about six months of this it decided that it doesn't like to boot up after a night or two of being off.  What happens is when I push the power button you can hear it power on but the monitor says there is no signal being sent from the computer.  The other weird thing is that the power button light is amber instead of green.  I turned off the computer and unplugged all power from it and tried again.  This time it booted up.  The last time it happened, unplugging it didn't even work so I pulled the case apart and cleaned it out.  I yanked the Video card out of the AGP slot and reseated it and turned it on and presto it fired right up.  What gets me is when I leave it on and have to reboot it, everything works fine.  It only acts up when I leave it off over night or longer and then start it.  Could this be the battery on the motherboard?  My clock doesn't seem to be losing time in windows or anything.  If a... Answer:Dimension 8100 not booting up and has amber light on power button. Please HELP?

If the power button is blinking amber, it is probable that the power supply needs to be replaced. If the power button is solid amber, the power supply should be fine. At this stage of bootup, memory has not yet been tested, and is not a factor in this type of failure. Check the CPU and ensure that it is properly seated.

My Optiplex 780
- will not post
- will not beep
- will not output any video

When I push the power button,
- Diagnostic lights 1 & 4 flash
- Power button is of solid amber

When I turn the computer off:
- if I press the Power Supply test button, it illuminates green
If I disconnect the power cable
- A tiny LED on the circuit board (next to AUX PWR label) stays amber for a minute or two.

Diagnostic lights 1 & 4 are not documented in the Dell manual. I have tried to disconnect all peripherals, all drives, all cards, even all RAM, still no POST no beep, no video: just the fan running, and diagnostic lights flashing.

Any hope for this computer?

Why would a computer take hours and days before a display? When the system is turn on very ofter the power light keeps blinking and the harddrive light is on but nothing shows on the monitor for hours or days and may not at all. Powering off and re-powering rarely helps it just have to be left alone and comes on whenever if ever.. Thanks for help

Answer:The power light keeps blinking and the harddrive light is on

Try a new signal cable from PC to monitor. If no change, try a new graphics card.If still no change, test the hard drive with "Seagate SeaTools for DOS".Click the "Download" tab here: http://www.seagate.com/support/down...The download is an ISO file, so you'll also need to install "IMGBurn" from here:http://filehippo.com/download_imgburn/Use IMGBurn to create a CD from the ISO file, then boot your faulty computer from it. The testing program will open. Select the hard drive and test it. If it fails the test you need to replace the hard drive. If hard drive passes the test it's okay, so test the RAM modules with "Memtest86" which is also an ISO file, so you need to create a CD from that too:http://www.memtest.org/

I have to 2 Dell Precision T3600 computers that only power on after the second try.
If you press the power button first time: the power button get's a amber light & 1 3 4 diagnostic get a flickering amber light.
If you turn the computer off and press the power button again it will turn on and work as normal.
I have been able to diagnose that the PSU is the problem.
I would like to know if I can continue to use these desktops in their current state? Are there any potential consequences / risks involved?
Also can the PSU can be repaired? If so how?

Thank you in advance.

Answer:Dell Precision T3600 Power Supply (PSU) amber light issue

Manual indicates it may be PSU cable related:

1- Blink 2- Off 3- Blink 4- Blink

PSU Cable Failure
All PSU cables may not be properly connected to system board. (PS_ON asserted, missing a main power rail)

Did you try to reseat the motherboard's PSU cable(s)?

Good afternoon, couple of days ago my computer which is not paid off yet and out of warranty went into a no boot with a soiid Amber light. When I cracked open the case I found my cpu fan was nearly frozen very stiff to turn. I cleaned it out but now curious if my cpu died or the PSU? The interesting part if I unplug all external perpherals from the computer and test it get the solid amber light and on the back by the PSU the green light is out as soon as I turn on the power. If I unplug the power let the system discharge then plug the power back in before turning on the power the green light on the PSU is lit.
Does this sound like a PSU issue? Could it be the CPU? I'm getting no post beeps or anything powering up. Also is this a specialized PSU or can I use any standard ATX PSU this is in a mid tower. The service code is <ADMIN NOTE:Service tag removed per privacy policy>.
Thank you for anyone's help in advance just frustrating making payments on a paperweight.

Answer:Solid Amber power light computer won't boot Dell Inpiron 530

 jouster_lj
Does the processor heatsink fan rotate freely?
Does the power supply fan work?
A solid amber power light indicates there may be a power problem or an internal device malfunction.
The Inspiron 530 Troubleshooter and Diagnostic Codes are HERE.
Most generic standard ATX power supply units can be installed, with either a 24-pin or 20+4-pin main motherboard power connector, with or without the on/off switch.
You should be able to buy a compatible power supply from either a local or online computer store.
Note: A power supply with four SATA power connectors, is required.
The power supply replacement procedure is HERE <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>

Hello. So my Dell dimension 4600 just lost mointor/video signal one day. All the fans, drives and CPU were still workin away. I figured ok great my video card is blown(in my case the MB). So I install a new MB. Still no video or monitor signal....I have checked the diagnostic lights on the back and none of them are lite. I have tested the power supply - seems fine. I have unplugged everything other than the CPU, main and second power to MB. I am getting no error beeps. I am so lost here!! I need some help please!! Thanx

Answer:Dell 4600 solid power amber light - no signal to monitor..help!

I would have tried another monitor before buying another board.Try hooking up a different monitor to the computer.  If that doesn't work try another monitor cable. If you have no other monitor, try hooking up your current monitor to another computer.  If it works then it means there's something going on with your computer.  If not, then the problem is most likely that  your monitor is bad.

Hi folks,

I write here because I've a problem...
My Satellite PRO 4600 of 2002 doesn't turn on anymore.
It shows a flashing amber light when I press the Pwr On switch...
I'm an electrotecnic, so you can explain me the problem.... thanks :)

Answer:Satellite Pro 4600 amber light flashing if I press the power switch

It sounds like a mainboard problem?

Try to remove the AC/DC adaptor and battery and then wait one hour. Connect the AC/DC adaptor and the battery. Now try it again.

Does this happen if with battery and/or AC adaptor?

Hi,

I've been working on a Satellite 2805-S201 and all was fine until I placed a PCMCIA Wireless with a 3.3V power rating.
After that, the AC power light will flash Amber 8 times and recycle.

This is with AC power, Battery power, AC and no battery installed, etc. If I pull the power plug and battery, and then put them both in, the AC light is green and the battery will charge. As soon as I Push the on/off button, I hear a faint click from the right side of the unit and then it goes into the amber power cycling.

The Support bulletins mentioned that the card could get damaged, but didn't mention the Unit itself.
No, the PCMCIA card is still not plugged in

Any Thoughts?

AC

Answer:Satellite 2805-S201: AC power light flashes amber 8 times

Hi

The blinking LED provides a micro code which refers to the hardware fault.
But please don?t ask me what this code could mean because in my opinion only an authorized service provider can read it and can check this in his manuals and documentations.
But one this is sure, in most cases it?s a motherboard hardware problem! ;(

Possibly the external PCMCIA card was not fully compatible and damages something on the board? but this is only my personal suggestion and to ensure what?s wrong a hardware fault diagnostic would be necessary.

Hello guys i hope someone can help me. My desktop stoped working and it showed me the amber power light.
First i cleaned the inside of the desktop from dust. I checked the battery it was fine ( 3V as indicated) then i checked rams. Also fine. Checked the video card also fine. Then i figured maybe it's the power supply. I jumped it and it worked the fan works and most of the outputs are fine. Then i tried to plug only the 24pin conector on the the mobo , it worked fine the fan kept spinning the HDD worked the cd-rom workd ..there was no stopping. But once i pluged the 4 pin atx mobo ps, every thing stoped again. I repeated the same thing 3 times. Once the 4 pin atx is pluged everything stops. What should i do. Is it the mobo ? Please help

I have a satellite A105-4054, which has given excellent service. Yesterday, the power light started flashing amber and stopped charging the battery. I had a second freshly charged battery, which I used instead and the power light still flashes amber.

I checked the Original Toshiba battery charger, which came with the unit, with a voltmeter and it shows 15 volts, which is correct. The laptop will boot normally with a freshly charged battery, but it will not charge when plugged in, and the power light flashes amber continually. If I remove the battery and leave the laptop plugged in, the power light flashes amber continually, and nothing happens (no power up). I would be happy to just run the laptop on AC, but that is not possible, right now

The toshiba power utility system tray icon, when the laptop is booted up on the fresh battery, flashes back and forth between charging and battery, and the battery does not seem to charge. Previously, the power utility would show AC power continuously when the unit was plugged in and the power light would stay blue.

I really like the laptop, since it has given superb service, and would like to keep it. Any reasonable solutions, please?

Thanks guys (and gals)!

Answer:Re: Satellite A105 - power light started flashing amber/battery not charging

On this virtual way nobody can say for sure what the problem is but after reading your detailed posting I think there is problem with power supply electronic placed on the mainboard. Only technicians with special diagnostic tools can say for sure what is wrong there.

In my opinion there is no much you can do about it and in such case whole mainboard must be exchanged. If you want contact nearest authorized service provider, explain the situation and I hope they can tell you more about that.

Hello I tried to install a power supply with my dell now I get a steady amber light after I removed the power supply since it had showed me an amber light. With the old power supply, I still get the steady amber light. I noticed that on the LED in the back, I got a yellowish amber colored light as well. With the new power supply it didn't have the exact four pin layout of my old one but had an eight pin layout that was seperated so that I could ease a four pin in with my computer. Did this blow out the motherboard? The major thing I did was remove the heatsink which had pins connected to it when I tried to install this video card but I noticed that some of the pins bent out of shape so I got a new heatsink only this time the heatsink I recieved has no pins. I installed the heatsink and tried to boot the pc but it won't boot only the fan spins and none of the indicator lights in the front turn on. Is the motherboard or processor dead? Thanks.

I bought this a couple of years ago from a local computer store. It's been very reliable and I run Ubuntu 16.04 Linux on it. This afternoon I had a power drop of a second or so and since then when trying to boot the issue in the subject happens. I can get to boot as usual by pressing the power supply test button which gives me a green light on the power supply and then pressing the power button will let it boot normally. I don't have any version of Windows installed so it's not possible to run any diagnostic unless there are some Linux based ones.
Thanks for any help

Answer:Dell Optiplex 780 MiniTower, power light flashes amber diagnostic lights 1 & 3 flash

Blinking Amber power: Initial state of light at power up. Indicates system has power, but the POWER_GOOD signal is not yet active. If the Hard Drive light is off, it is probable that the power supply needs to be replaced. If the Hard Drive light on, it is probable that an onboard regulator or VRM has failed. Look at the diagnostic lights for further information.
1+3:  Memory modules are detected, but a memory configuration or compatibility error has occurred.
You could try resetting BIOS to see if you can clear the error.

Reboot and press F2 to open BIOS setup
Copy down all current BIOS settings
Power off, unplug
Press/hold power button for ~15 sec
Open case and remove motherboard battery
Press/hold power button for ~30 sec
Reseat RAM modules in their slots
Reinstall battery- good time for new CR2032 coin cell, if this one is old
Close case and reboot

If that helps, go back into BIOS setup, and confirm that all settings match what you wrote down. Be sure to save any changes before exiting setup.

Hi All,
I have replaced a EVGA GT 730 video card with the EVGA GTX 1070 Founder's Edition video card on a Dell XPS 8700. Once the installation was finished I powered the PC on and only got an amber light on the power button. I powered off and replaced the card with the old one, checked for any loose cables, and tested the power supply successfully. I am still getting an amber light with the old card back in. My fear is the motherboard short circuited. Please tell me I am wrong and someone else had this issue and was able to fix it!?

Answer:Solid Amber light on power button after installing GTX 1070 video card on a XPS 8700

Do you have an upgraded power supply unit? A min 500w psu is required and the 8700 doesn't have that.  see this-- www.evga.com/.../product.aspx  and this-

My Inspiron 15R N5110 won't come on. I've tried both battery and 2 different ac adapters. I've removed the battery, unplugged it, and held the power button for 30 seconds to discharge the system, but it still won't come on.
I took the laptop apart and everything looks alright, but the DC jack was slightly brown on top so I replaced the DC jack board. It still won't work.
I made sure the connections are tight (the DC jack and other USB board) by screwing them down. The only thing that happens that shows any life is when the battery is in. The power button, power indicator light in front, and the little "gears" light blink white for just a moment, then off, about every 5 seconds.

Any ideas? If I have to replace the motherboard, what is the difference between 0G8RW1 and 0VVN1W? I'm not worried about the product key not validating - may even put Windows 8 on it.
Thanks!
