Preferred Solution: Wireless LAN driver can't load after BIOS update NB550D

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Wireless LAN driver can't load after BIOS update NB550D

Set BIOS to default settings and try again.

Is WLAN card recognized properly in device manager?

My query is similar to the one for the " NB510 - graphics driver not compatible with Windows 10".

On my NB550D-10G, the Get Windows 10 app states that the "Utility Common Driver" needs to be updated, but is not available.

The Windows10 support thread states that the NB550 is not a supported device.

Does any one know what the "Utility Common Driver" does? Is there a work around?

Thank in advance.

Alan

Answer:NB550D - driver for Windows 10

I think that this old piece of hardware is not supported for Win10. I have NB520 and it is not even supported for Win8.

I think you should stay with Win7. I have installed my own version and after OS optimization it runs perfectly.

Answer:Graphic Driver Win 7 Pro NB550D

Hay

After reading your post I don?t know what to do.
How to check what are you doing exactly?

Do you use Win7 32bit?
Why do you think it is not the right one?
What happen when you start installation?

Have you tried to install it manually?

The same driver is packed in recovery image so there is no reason why it should not be ?the right? one.

Netbook may have powered off during Windows Update as now it will not get past the green loading bar with "Microsoft Corporation" underneath. It gives an option to start windows normally or to load repair files but both end up stuck on the green loading bar. Safe mode (all options) gets as far as classpnp.sys then freezes.

Using a different laptop I made a Window Repair Disk and then copied the files over the a USB (netbook has no CD Drive) as per the online guides. When the USB is booted the repair files load, there is a blinking cursor then it's back into the green loading bar. Safe mode (all options) gets stuck on disk.sys with the USB inserted.

Found some threads with similar symptoms with most being caused by a dodgy HD connection (checked, nothing obviously disconnected) or the wrong SATA mode selected in the BIOS (seems to make no difference between ACHI or Compatible). Next plan is to boot a live linux version and try to replace the classpnp.sys file with on from another copy of Windows 7.

If anyone has experienced this before or can give any pointers they'd be greatly appreciated,
Thanks.

Answer:NB550D - Wont boot after Windows Update

Hi

To be honest never had any problems after a windows update.
But it looks like a system fault.
My first idea was the usage of the repair option and trying to start the OS using the option: use the last good known configuration.

But if this would not help, then you can try to replace the files using and booting from the Live CD. Not quite sure if this would solve the problem but I think it?s definitely worth a try? otherwise you would need to reinstall the OS using the HDD recovery (if still available )

Hi, I ran the Lenovo update software and it updated my BIOS. After the restart - the computer wouldn't load. XP tries to load and then there is a brief sec where there is a blue screen (too fast to read what it says) and then the computer restarts again. When it was updating the BIOS it said it was creating a bios.bak file to backup the old BIOS - how do I revert back to the old BIOS? Currently in the setup screen it says that the BIOS version is 68ET35WW(V3.03) but I cannot start Windows.(safe mode doesn't work as well) Any help will be much appreciated.

Answer:Can't load XP after a BIOS update

Check your BIOS for an option called "AHCI controller working mode" or "SATA controller working mode" and revert it's settings.

My system is running Windows 7 64 bit so I downloaded the BIOS update 4ACN38WW64.

Anybody have any idea as to how I can get my system to update my BIOS?
Thanks in advance...

PS the reason I am trying to update my BIOS is because I am experiencing Demonic Possession of my keyboard. periodically my keyboard takes on a mind of its own and opens folders when I type keys instead of behaving like a keyboard...this makes me sad.

HIDidi you try running winphlash.exe to flash the bios? Do you get any error in that too?For the gpu, i suspect you have switched over to the integrated gpu. For reverting to the nvidia gpu, use the optimus switch which is on the right of the touchpad. Also see if it is graphic setting is set to optimus in bios.

I've got a Dell Dimension 8300 which came with XP pro.
After a HD crash in March, when I replaced the drive, and since I got it for free because I'd participated in the Beta testing, I installed VISTA Ultimate on the new HD.

However, what everyone and anyone failed to mention in this process was that you have to check to see if you're using the latest BIOS before installing VISTA.

"edward" from Microsoft said that all my problems concerning the system just freezing intermittently (requiring a hard reset every time) are because I need to update the BIOS (he gleaned this from MSINFO32 which he had me send to him.)

So I found a later version of the BIOS for this computer. However, Vista will not allow me to run it.

I continually get a message which says "Flash Access Denied....make sure you're logged in as an administrator" Which I am.
I tried going to the CMD "run as administrator" as well.

I tried turning off all the UAC controls from secpol.msc.

None of it works.

I just want to update the BIOS.

Edward then said...it's not gonna happen with Vista running PERIOD becuase it was supposed to be done prior to loading Vista.

I used the backup utility and have all non windows files backed up on another drive.
MS sent me a new XP SP2 disk with a new license key.

I wanted to install it on a different hard drive, however, Vista won't allow me to do that either.

Is there a way to use the command prompt to force the CD to l... Read more

Answer:Need to load XP just to update BIOS in VISTA

If it was meant to run XP, then that may the reason Vista is freezing. I tried Vista once and it also freezed alot. I blame it on the older hardware, just like your Dell cam with XP.

Hi, a couple of days ago I let Lenovo Assistant perform four automatic updates, critical, as they were pointed ? three driver updates and the BIOS. As I noticed, the BIOS was updated with the help of BIOS update utility, the system restarted correctly and flashed the downloaded image. Now it?s shown in BIOS setup window to be a current version - GJET90WW UEFI BIOS, GJHT29WW ECP. Previously it was a version of 2.36 package. The system boots, but the OS (Win7 x64) stops loading on Win logo after this BIOS update. While loading is the safe mode it stops on classpnp.sysUnfortunately no other Win OS (Win XP, Win 8, Win 10) or pre-installation environment (win 8 PE, win 10 PE) could be loaded - the same problem. No way out except turning of the notebook with the power button (even pressing emergency reset button has no result). The system hangs.I've tried doing all the stuff with removing the internal and external batteries, extra memory, SSD, loading from USB with/without SSD, from external CD, rescue disks, forums of classpnp.sys load problems  etc. Except trying to load Linux.Besides, I?m unable to reset any previous version of BIOS with the help of BIOS Update Bootable CD (If the UEFI BIOS has been updated to version 2.40 or higher, it is no longer able to roll back to the version before 2.40 for security improvement)? Does anyone have an idea how to do?Thanks P.S.     SSD is ok, fortunately I?ve got my files from it on another P... Hi everyone,

It's just a normal Toshiba NB550D netbook

The only thing that I change is the Wireless Card inside it: the original is a common Atheros half mini card. Recently I have the urge to use internet in 5 ghz (frequency).

Thus, I decide to replace the old one with the *half mini card Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN*
It doesn't turn out so well. The driver is not recognised or more precisely the windows tries to install the driver but FAIL is reported. Device manager tool shows an "!" next to the network card and when I go the its properties at general tab: "*The device failed to start - Code 10*"

I tried many ways to uninstall the driver and reinstall again ; also tried to download drivers from toshiba website for intel network card.

Nothing works so far and yeah I just don't know what to do now.

The possibility that the intel card is broken or malfunctioned is eliminated because I checked that with another laptop already and it just worked like a charm.

Please help me solve this problem. I really need to use dual band (2.4 and 5 ghz) internet.
Appreciate any help!!

Answer:Device failed to start - Code 10 - Intel Wireless Card on NB550D

>The possibility that the intel card is broken or malfunctioned is eliminated because I checked that with another laptop already and it just worked like a charm

Regarding the error code 10:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943104/en-us

+The Code 10 error pertains mainly to hardware and device driver issues or to compatibility issues between hardware drivers and additional software that is installed in Windows.+

I don?t think its Wlan card issue? it could be a compatibility problem between the BIOS and the WLan card.
Not all devices are supported by BIOS?.

But at the other hand the WLan card appears already in device manager and therefore I think there should not be a BIOS compatibility issue.

Did you check if chipset would handle the Wlan card properly?

Hello

Well, if BIOS update crashed you can do nothing because the ROM module must be reflashed. This can only be done with special tools and only an authorized service provider has such tools.

Ok so i decided i would update my BIOS as i saw there was a new BIOS available at the dell website

I have a Inspiron 1100 2.2Cel, 512 Ram, 30GIG
I had a A29 BIOS and was updating to A30, So i downloaded and started the BIOS update it starts installing and has to restart as it restarts all is fine till it gets to the windows splash screen and it comes up with a certain boot file is missing in system32 ( I didn't get chance to see the specifics as i wasn't expecting a problem) and then straight away it restarts so the BIOS didnt finish installing and from then on it simply just keeps restarting at the splash screen

So i thought i would try Safe mode but the same problem, I then try putting my XP cd in and repairing the windows but still no luck so then i went and instaled a second XP which is now working fine, which relieved a bit as the Computer parse is working just not the original Windows

I now have access to the other windows install to be able to put the missing files in, But my main concern is getting "My Documents" as i have a lot of college stuff which isn't backed up on my USB drive, And when i go to get access it comes up with access denied because it's private

I have tried This
still didnt help

Tried copying some system32 files from the fresh install to the old see if the file might missing might have been added but still no luck

I did a virus scan and the scanner was able to scan the files in the "My Docume... Read more

Hi evangny,

I have also Tecra A11 in front of me and have installed newest BIOS version but this didn?t affect any installed programs. BIOS and installed programs are different.
What you can do is loading the default settings in BIOS after the update.

Can you be a little bit more detailed?
What happens exactly if you try to start these programs? Do you get an error message?

Do you use the preinstalled Windows version from Toshiba?

Hello, thanks for taking the time to look at my issue. I just ran into a problem with my computer. My computer is running windows 7 64bit.

I got a new graphics card in today and put in my computer to crossfire. After I booted my computer back up it loaded fine, albeit slow, but crashed while installing new drivers for the card. Since then I haven't been able to get back on to that SSD(boot drive).

I can't access the advanced boot options to roll back the drivers that were installed as soon as the SSD was booted up.

I've tried numerous suggestions that I've found from other troubleshooting threads on the forums including; looking in my bios for a shortcut, pressing f8 twice per second, holding f8 down, pressing f8 as soon as the bios screen goes away in between the system attempting to load.
I just can't get to the advanced boot menu!

Any suggestions?

Edit: I should say that I AM able to load up windows on my storage hdd which also has windows 7 64bit installed; however, it doesn't even register that my SSD is plugged in under device manager or just computer.

Edit 2: This is crushing my life please help! lol

Answer:SSD Won't load my OS after driver update

Boot into BIOS setup to make sure SSD is detected and set first to boot, after DVD drive.

Then boot into Win7 DVD or System Repair Disk to run Startup Repair several times. It should offer to automate System Restore. If not and it fails to start Win7, boot back into Recovery Options to run System Restore and Disk Check

If SSD is not detected and is under warranty contact it's maker's Tech Support for help to test and if necessary RMA it. Otherwise replace the cables, test the drive using maker's diagnostics followed by Disk Check.

I just got my new computer a few days ago and I've been downloading the usual drivers, updates etc. for it. The graphics card is GeForce 6800 GT, so I downloaded the latest driver (61.77) from www.nvidia.com. This worked perfectly until I found out there were further "updates" - and the stupidity of what I did should become apparent now - located here: http://3dchipset.com/drivers/beta/nvidia/nt5/index.php.

Following the flimsy advice that I found on another forum site, I went for the 62.20 download. I can't remember precisely when things went wrong after this, but I think the next two or three restarts were successful.

The current situation is: I switch on the computer - it gets as far as the screen where it says Windows did not start successfully. There is a 30 second timer counting down, and the options are:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Last Known Good Configuration
Start Windows Normally

The first three options start a series of lines down the screen which read "multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS\Syste m32\DRIVERS\" and then after "DRIVERS" there will be a *.sys file, e.g. ACPI.sys. After the last line the computer freezes.

"Last Known Good Configuration" makes the screen go black and it stays like that. "Start Windows Normally" freezes the screen, including the timer, and it stays like that. The only options from here are the power on/off or reset bu... Read more

Well, if this is a result of your driver installation then you need to uninstall it. You can select Safe Modem W/Networking and uninstall the driver that way, after that everything should be okay. If not, since its a new install, I'd reformat and start over.

Answer:Bios update doesn't work on Satellite - Cannot load PHLASHNT.sys

Hi Clemens,

PHLASHNT.SYS is the Phoenix NT flash driver which will be needed if you are updating a Phoenix BIOS. However, you don't say which model of Satellite notebook you are updating or which version of the BIOS update you are using (Windows or Traditional). Please post some more information so that we can try to help you with your problem.

Answer:Toshiba l300D wont load up after bios update fail

It doesn't sound like it is fixable on your end. Flash BIOSes that go bad, leave you with a doorstop. You'll hear the statement, "I bricked my computer". This means you turned your device into a brick also known as a doorstop.

You might want to post at a good BIOS site
http://www.wimsbios.com/forum/

People do send bricked computers off, have the BIOS chip desoldered and a new one soldered on. You might be able to get information on that type of service.

Maybe if you contact Toshiba, they will be able to tell you of some companies that do this.

Hello everyone, I updated my BIOS from 7FCN35WW to 7FCN96WW because the f4 key was always being registered as alt(or fn)-f4. After the update was done my resolution was stuck on a low resolution, so I updated my Intel graphic driver. The resolution went back after that,  but afterwards I noticed that the Nvidia Geforce graphic card wasn't found anymore. I don't know if it happened after the Intel update or the BIOS update because I didn't immediately check after the BIOS update, but I assume the BIOS. When I try to install the latest Nvidia driver it says that the Nvidia graphic card isn't found. I installed the Lenovo Solution center and it said that the "Intel(R) Xeon(R) processor E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core processor PCI Express x16 Controller - 0C01" wasn't working correctly. The device status says roughly translated "Can't start this device because the configuration data in the register is incomplete or damaged (Code 19)" Does anyone know a solution for this or has the same problem? Thanks in advance.

Laptop Medion MD40734 Same as FID2060 From ToysRUs & Aldi. Made about last 2 to 3 years I know off. This is a common problem when trying to upgrade XP with SP2. SP2 will load but then Windows XP will hang after restarting computer.
I have noted 5 people in UK and others outside UK with exact same problem.

MS SP2 Help at http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSP2.htm
They suggest removing SP2 then fix from MS help as follows http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9b99c199-5d75-454f-ae07-b620727be8d8 then load SP2 again. When it fails again with same problem they suggest new BIOS. Medion new BIOS at http://www.medion.co.uk/ using AGP Interface Driver FID 2060
and use instructions given. If your drive is NFTS with only one partition (or not original format) you will have to disregard their instructions and copy file to a floppy or CD and run from there.
IT WILL NOT MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR BIOS even though it has it on screen when file open.

I strongly advise you do not use this BIOS update as it will probably cause lockup on loading on POST.

I saw somewhere you can load BIOS through DOS making a backup of BIOS as you load new updated BIOS. Not sure that if even if you did that you could reload old BIOS if all goes wrong.

Suggest forget SP2 until Medion get this sorted. You may end up needing new Motherboard.

I need help!i know a bit more than the average person about computers and i can usually resolve my computer issues on my own but im stumped! the first time i had an issue was a couple months ago when amd prompted me to update my graphics driver, so i did....after updating  i restarted the computer and i would get to the windows loading screen then,  a black screen with just the loading "ring" shownig. i restarted the machine a few times asnd got the same thing,  so eventually i got to the startup repair screen and i used system restore to bring the computer back to the point before i installed the new driver. after that it worked fine for a few months.  just last week i had the same issue with the black loading screen so i did a system restore again andt windows loaded fine after that, until the screen went to sleep then it refused to come back on and would not boot up again. i had not updated the graphis driver so im not sure what caused it this time and since then thats what has been happening i have tryed restarting it time after time and it will eather freeze at the black loading screen, or will  boot into windows very slowly, then crash again. i have also tryed system restore a few more times and it just boots up once then crashes again i have even tryed repalcing the hard drive and putting a fresh windows 10 install on it and it, but  just does the same thing again. the strangest thing for me is that it seems t... Yesterday, I had an important windows update: " Advance micro devices Inc. Driver update for AMD SMBus." The update failed to load 4 different times! So I went to device manager, and in the list it had no such devise. It did list "Universal serial bus controllers". So I do not think it is the same.

Two things strike me as not being right. 1. Why would an AMD driver update be listed as a critical Windows update? 2. On update history, every update that was ever done on this computer has a KB******* I.D. number after it being that it was either successful or failed. The download attempted was listed as Failed, but no KB number after it. I do have the windows update icon in the system tray.

I do know that the wrong people are getting very experienced at attacking computer systems! My concern definitely raises a couple of red flags here.

Could someone please comment as to what may be happening?

When I try and install the update for my video driver and the latest Windows update (Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130), I get an error message saying: "Windows could not load installer for display. Contact your hardware vendor for assistance".

Also (and I don't know if this is related or not, I am unable to view "properties" from my desktop or to change screensaver/background themes from the control panel).

From googling the error message, I suspect that it has something to do with my video driver but I'm not certain.

I'm not sure what specs you need re: my computer. Here are the basics, if you need more, let me know.

I have Power Suite on my computer and it said I had 6 outdated drivers which I updated. Now my Windows won't load. It gets to my desk top background, but can't even load the program icons. Then it starts the same process all over. I'm sure one of the updated drivers is the issue, but I can't get the computer to start in order to try System Restore. What can I do? I'm not very computer savvy, so go slow..

Thanks!

Answer:[SOLVED] windows won't load after driver update- xp

This is the reason it is best to get the driver from the manufacturer website. Most Driver Finder software will recommend incompatible drivers.

I see no beneficial reasons to using Power Suite software.

Boot the PC into Safe Mode. Once logged in run a System Restore

Restart the PC > repeatedly tap F8 during boot > at the Advanced Options choose Safe Mode

I can't seem to get Windows 7 SP1 to load a driver for an HP printer that is on my home network. My laptop sees it but won't let me make it the default printer or load a driver so that I can link to it wirelessly. I restored my laptop back to windows 7
because Windows 10 was moving too slow. I only have 4gigs of memory, and windows 10 probably runs better with 8gigs of memory.

I'm working with a Dell Dimension C521 PC. It came with a PCI-Express video card which apparently has failed, yet the motherboard itself has on-board video. The system will boot using this video output (as opposed to the card which produced nothing) but when it finally gets to windows the auto-detect driver routine kicks in and begins to detect the video card, prompting the user to "Continue Anyway" to finish installing unsigned drivers. Unfortunately this event takes place in front of the installation of the USB keyboard and mouse (times like these I wish it had PS/2 ). Anyway, whether I boot up into Safe Mode or normal a prompt comes up about installing drivers for the on-board chipset. I can't interact with it because the driver install routine for the keyboard/mouse becomes interrupted.

Answer:Dell Dimension C521; USB key/mouse driver load interrupted by video card driver load

Bump. I've been thinking... the only way I think this can be fixed is if I boot from a Linux CD or something similar and delete a particular set of drivers for this video card. It can't prompt you to install any drivers if they don't exist, right? But I don't know where to go to delete such files and prevent them from automatically trying to install themselves. Any ideas?

When using windows update I am given the choice to download an updated driver for my Brother HL-5040 printer. (Driver Version No. 01.60.00.00.)The download has been carried out several times but the instalation fails and I get the following message in the update log.Error IUENGINE Installing Printer Driver Brother HL-5040 Series (Error 0x800703E5: Overlapped I/O operation is in progress.)See iuhist.xml for details: Install finished (Error 0x800703E5: Overlapped I/O operation is in progress.)My printer has always worked well and doesn't seem to have been affected by this.I can't find the location of the current driver and don't know how to check which version I currently have. Can anyone tel me what the error is and how I can fix it/install the new driver.

Answer:Windows XP Printer Driver Update failure to load

You'd be better going to the Brother website rather than rely on the Windows Update Site click here If the printer works OK though why bother? They apparently posted a nVidia Graphics driver as a critical update. Great if you don't have an appropriate nVidia card.

Answer:got the windows 10 free upgrade and used the dell diagnostics tool to upgrade driver and bios everything worked fine until the update of the bios!!!!

I called dell they told me in not so many words my motherboard was Fried and they would not replace it.

Dell just saying it's a "possibility" the motherboard might need to be replace. No one can tell you that motherboard is definite "Fried" without first looking at the system.
What is the system model number and version of windows before upgrading to windows 10? Example: Dell Inspiron 3543, windows 10
You're able to boot into BIOS(F2 key) and diagnostic (F12 key) ?

2. Power on computer, quickly start tapping F2 key ( BIOS) or F12 key( BIOS) continuously

I have a Dell inspiron 1525 laptop with Vista & my browsers are IE7 :mad & Google Chrome. I got the laptop in late 2008.
The following has happened about 5 times over the past 2 weeks. When I have been using Chrome browser (I never use IE), at the very instant I click to close the browser, everything goes black & I then get a message that I've had an unexpected shut down & a lot of other writing which I do not have time to read in the few seconds it gives you before the system auto restarts. The last time this happened was last night. I did manage to catch a few words in the text & they were these words not necessarily in this order; they are just words that stuck in my brain referring to what may be causing this.:

I saw the word shadowing.

I saw something saying something about checking to see if BIOS drivers have an update or needing updating or something to that effect.

So, I have gone to my control panel for the problem reports & solutions. It brought up a report from 10/27 yet has no record of what happened yesterday. Further, it says the report from 10/27 was not reported???????

Hello All: Many of us are aware that Lenovo stopped providing software updates by way of the TVSU (ThinkVantage System Update) application, however, I was rather surprised to notice that Lenovo has also stopped highlighting new system software releases when they are posted to the Device Driver File Matrix. There are two new system software updates available for the W500, one is a BIOS Update to version 2.12 - 1.01, and the other is an update for the Intel Pro Wireless to Version 12.04.  Click here for the Vista version or click here for the XP version.

I have tried everything I know to do.  I am an IT Pro with 30 years experience and this one has me stumped...
With the July cummulative update to Windows 10 15063, the Qualcomm Atheros Bluetooth driver has completely failed.  It will not load and reports it is corrupted or unusable.  Here's what I have tried...
1. Remove and reinstall driver - Fail
2. Ensure latest driver from Dell, remove and reinstall - Fail
3. Download latest driver package from Killernetworking.com - Fail
4. Roll back CU (KB4025342) - Success
5. Reinstall CU (KB4025342) - Installs, but kills the bluetooth driver again
6. Contact Dell Support - Fail - Technician said it's a Microsoft problem and I would have to contact them for support. (Ironically: I just bought this laptop two months ago and purchased a 4year premium support contract!).
7. Roll back CU (KB4025342) permanently - Not possible, as it is managed by our Windows Update Server on corporate domain and would effect everyone.  I could do this, but it would be a last resort, and it's unknown what vulnerability I would expose the rest of our W10 clients to.

Has anyone else encountered this issue?  If so, what did you do to resolve?

Dell:  Can you please investigate and resolve?  All bluetooth functionality is broken so long as this CU is in place.

Thank you!

When I upgraded to windows 8.1 with my lenovo y500 w/ dual nvidia gt650m cards the driver for the second gpu would not show up or have an error after awhile.  If I re-installed the older driver that I had at the time before the 8.1 update both drivers would work for a time but eventually it would crap out again.  I tried updating to the newest driver and It wouldn't read the second driver at all. error everytime.  so anyway, I called lenovo and the support agent told me to refresh my pc and remove win8.1.  This SUCKED b/c I had a lot of games disappear and I couldn't believe this was the only answer.  Anyways they work fine on reg win 8, but every other day I get a popup telling me to upgrade to 8.1 and how great it is, and how some things won't work w/o 8.1.  I tried 8.1 again to see if maybe they had fixed the problem a couple of months ago, but no, I had to refresh and start all over.  I accidentally hit ok on the 8.1 popup the other day, luckily I hit system restore before it could go into effect. I found the thread talking about fixing the sli with 8.1 and I think this addresses my problem (at least part of it). If you are considering updating you MoBo Bios. Your Manual for the mother board will explain it.

Here is another consideration:
Is your board not preforming some function that you use? If the answer is no. You might consider leaving well enough alone. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I need help.  Bottom line up front: I want to reflash the BIOS/UEFI on my Lenovo G50-45 Type 80E3.  Attempts to do this from Windows have failed.  Is there are way to do this from a flash drive or DOS?  Symptoms and details follow.             The problem machine is one of ten identical (both hardware and software) laptops occasionally used in a classroom.  The other 9 laptops are working perfectly.            The problem machine (and all the others) were fine 5 months ago when updated to Windows 10 v1607.  When taken out of storage the problem machine started to boot to Windows but hung before the lock screen.  After >30 minutes waiting, I was able to do some recovery options, but all failed to fix the problem.  Restoring the original OEM image or even a complete image from another working machine had no effect.  Of some significance:  if I waited >1 hour sometimes I got a Windows error, "thread stuck in device driver."            I wiped the HD completely with secure erase, and then installed a vanilla ("Clean") copy of Windows 10 v1703, the current 'Creators Update.'  This worked fine until connected to the Internet, upon which it quickly hung and crashed.  By installing drivers off-line one-by-one I traced the problem to the AMD Video devic... I was getting a system crash with my new GTX 770 when I had a 600w PSU with 34amps on the rail.

So I upgraded my PSU to 750w (CX750M) with 62amps on the rail. The GTX 770 requires that it has 42amps. So my 62amps is enough.

But I'm still getting system crashes when playing a game.

Any solution?
Thank you

Answer:Do I need to download driver or update Bios after upgrading new PSU?

Power supplies do not require a driver and are not affected by the BIOS version.

You may have a different problem. If you can post the error messages from the crash here that may provide some clues, or you could post in the BSOD Help and Support Forum. Follow their posting instructions to get the best help.

I have a MSI P35 Neo2-FR mainboard (model MS7345, 1.0) installed in a custom multimedia computer. The OS is XP pro with all current updates from Windows update as well as drivers updated from the "Driver Detective" application I use. The processor is Intel 2 duo E6850, socket 775 LGA. I can give other data about the processor as I have the CPU-Z utility installed. Memory is DDR2 dual channel, 4096 MBytes. Please request any other data you might need to answer my question(s).

The mainboard bios was last updated to V1.7 (12-24-2007) when I built the computer and installed the motherboard. Since bios updates are supposed to be somewhat risky and should not be done unless absolutely necessary I have never tried to update the bios. But my Driver Detective application will not update certain Intel (chipset?) drivers that Detective says are outdated, and I seem to be having some issues that might be related to those drivers Detective says are outdated (so called ICH9 family two port ATA storage controllers, standard dual channel PCI IDE controller, Intel Express chipset PCI express root port, and Intel PCI bridge). I'm not sure what those "outdated" drivers do or how they could affect my system operation but I went to the MSI website

Answer:Mainboard driver/bios update advice

First make sure you're updating the correct motherboard model, these are specific for motherboards!

Booting to DOS and creating a flashable boot disk with the flasher and the BIOS file is explained at http://www.wimsbios.com/faq/howtomakebootableusbmemorystick.jsp

Also you only need to flash the latest version eg. http://www.msi.com/service/download/bios-12246.html because all previous changes are also in the latest version. On the MSI site you can see if one of the solved items applies to you.

Ok, here's my problem. Sorrry if it's a bit long.

I recently had major issues with my computer. I found out through trial and error that there was a hardware issue. i just changed my motherboard and RAM to work through this, and the computer returned to semi-working order. I also scanned the Hard Drive for viruses from a friends PC. The computer worked, but ran extremely slow, with the CPU usage spiking high. Through process Explorer, I discovered that there were two issues, one a driver problem, and an overheating CPU (running near 90 c). I tried to update my drivers, to get back to some semblance of usablility, and in my wisdom (read: stupidity) I updated the BIOS, and essentially all the built-in drivers for my motherboard at once before a restart. Now, it runs quickly, up to the point where it automatically shuts down. This occurs during the windows load screen. When I attempt to boot from a CD, I get a GPF. Any ideas? Initially I got problem with the secondary portrait orientation in the tablet mode, but complete reinstallation (as kindly advised by yigit at this forum) of the system (Windows 7) using Onekey Recovery solved the problem. If somebody is interested, please see my messages of December 2010. Since then my laptop works perfectly.
Now I have two additional simple (I hope so) questions:
1) For my another Lenovo laptop, Thinkpad T400, I got a program called ThinkVantage Productivity Center, which is able (along with many other functions) to automatically update the system. It scans the system and suggests to update drivers, BIOS and other Lenovo programs where applicable. Does anything similar exist for s10-3t? It looks  to be a sad and time-consuming procedure to check manually all the drivers at this page compare them to the existing drivers at my system and to manually update where needed.
2) I found here not few posts reporting problems after BIOS update. Is it worth trying to update the BIOS if my s10-3t works perfectly with the old one? The parameters of my system are:
BIOS:  Lenovo 24CN61WW  11-Aug-10
SMBIOS 2.5
System model: 20040M18
Windows 7 (32bit)
Thank you.

Answer:y470 wireless not working after bios update

there's a wireless switcher ( probably left/right side of your computer ) make sure you activated it first.if it's about bios, you may need to activate wireless in bios, too.

I recently bought a Belkin 54G cardbus wireless adapter for use with my Satellite 2800-400, which has a Windows ME OS.
The setup software wouldn't install a driver, even though ME was said to be supported.

I wrote to Belkin and they told me that it was because the laptop BIOS didn't support 802.11g wireless and that I should update the BIOS. I updated to BIOS version 2 but it didn't make any difference.

I don't know if Belkin's instructions were on the right track or whether they were they just pushing the responsibility as far away from themselves as they could.
Please can anyone tell me if my laptop does support 802.11g wireless, with or without the BIOS upgrade?
TIA
Mike

Answer:Will 2800-400 BIOS update enable 802.11g wireless LAN?

Hi

I?m not 100% sure if your notebook supports a wireless LAN connection because I don?t found any informations about it. But as far as I know it?s not necessary to update the BIOS therewith the Wireless card works.
I recommend to contact the service partner. They have more detailed informations about this unit.

Hi all, I need some help. I just bought a new thinkpad edge e440-Q01 last sturday. Hi guys ,I currently have an Alienware 15R3 with a recurrent  (BSOD) "Thread Stuck in Device Driver ".It recently went worse as I cannot boot into windows without this BSOD coming up.So I have decided to update my bios (currently in A06) through safe mode. However Murphy's law strike again as i get the "Unable to Load driver" error message when I execute the Bios update file.So i have decided to set up a Freedos on my USB stick and I copy the Bios Update file downloaded from Dell website in order to execute the Bios Flash Update directly from the Bios (F12 on launch --> Bios Flash Update) . However , another problem strike,  once in the GSET Bios Flash Update I cannot use the left / right arrow from the keyboard (only the ups and downs work) in order to select the bootable disk and run the program. I tried to plug another Keyboard through USB same problem .My Bios is open and I have no restriction in paramter of anykind. This is a story when everything goes wrong , so if anyone can help me I would really really appreciate .Thank you guys and Best RegardsGuillaume

Hi,

I have a Satellite A80-131 and after bios update (last version 2.5) by windows procedure update, my DVD drive do not read DVD medias anymore. It is possible to read CD medias, but not DVD one.

Can I reinstall the old bios? Can I reinstall the firmware?

Thanks

Hi

Strange!
On the Toshiba driver page you will find also 2 Firmware updates.
Check which drive you unit has and try to update the firmware.
Try also to install the DVD ram driver.

PS: It's not possible to roll back the BIOS or to install the early version of BIOS on the unit. Only the Toshiba service partner can DOWNGRADE the BIOS

any suggestions?

Hi,

My question is: How can I determine if a downloadable application offered by a Web site is indeed safe (i.e., not malware or spam) before I actually do download and install the program?

Here are the gory details: I was curious about updates to my computer's BIOS and drivers, so I searched Google and turned up a web-site that offers a download that scans your computer to determine the current BIOS and driver versions, then provides a checklist showing which are up-to-date and which aren't. I ran it and it looks pretty neat (http:driveragent.com). It also provides links to download the updates. (Unfortunately, that costs about $30 for a year's subscription.) It's not just that I'm broke, it's also kind of scary.

My question may be foolish, especially since I downloaded and installed the program that does the checking without knowing anything about it. But I'd really like to know if there is a way to determine how safe a downloadable application is "before" actually downloading and installing it.

Many thanks. I look forward to hearing your advice.

Answer:Downloading BIOS update & driver updates safely

hello & welcome to TSF ,

driveragent is a very safe place to get your drivers from .....

i have a standing subscription with them for i do alot of repairs on a daily basis and trust them greatly and it is so much quicker & easier for me !!

now the best way you can get your drivers for free is to go to the home site of the manufacturer of the pc you have or the for the hardware that you have installed & to know the types of software you are using that require specific drivers like (Realtek AC/97audio & nVidia video & ATI chipsets & Intel & AMD ) and so many more that are used to run certain applications on a pc / there is quite a few that Microsoft offers thru the update site/plus many other trusted sites that you can get them from

but you need to know the specific driver that you need for you can get a driver that may look like the one that you need but rather is for a diifernt application and then you are then going to create a driver conflict and then you have issues on your pc and have to trouble shoot to find the issue

for you see some drivers for one hp will work on a dell , but then they wont for certain hp computers /then you have some dell drivers that will work on a hp or many differnt hps

then you have the differnce of having a laptop from a desktop

so the need to know is very inportant & can be time comsuming

i hope that i have shed a little light on the subject for you

so what drivers are you wantin... Read more

TEMPRO has given me 2 new drivers but neither has instructions.

BIOS installation used to be an operation involving copying the driver to a disc and then changing the boot-up order to start with that disc.
However I think the new BIOS drivers are installed with Windows running - as a normal program. Anyone know for sure ?

I assume the wifi driver is a normal install, with wifi switched on or off ?

Answer:Satellite L350-277 - Update of new BIOS and Wifi driver

Hi

Just one question;
Is a WLan driver update and BIOS update necessary?
I mean; do you have any problems with your notebook where such update would be required?

You should not update this if everything is OK. in most case the Tempro notifies you about drivers and tools which are uploaded to the driver page but this is not a recommendation for an update? you know what I mean????

I follow always this tip; never change a running system.

Please help; any suggestions you might have would be greatly appreciated. The wifi on my X61 7675 CTO (which is upgraded to Windows 7 Professional) is the Thinkpad 11a/b/g Wirless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter and my current driver is version 7.6.1.237, which seems to be the latest from Lenovo (dated 4/9/09). There is a later driver, however, that keeps popping up in Windows Update as "optional" - but it has version 2.<something> while being dated 10/17/09. So it is later but has much lower version number. Should I update? The reason I ask is that I've been having problems with frequently losing my wireless connection. I only get reconnected if I disable and then enable the wireless device, sometimes I have to do it several times. But still I cannot find anything wrong with it (it is not any of the common issues, such as allowing Windows to shut it down to save energy). I've tried reinstalling the device with the driver package supplied by Lenovo, but nothing seems to help. I don't want to screw things up further by installing an older driver (if it is older; I really can't tell), so I would appreciate your advice. This page seems to state that one should use the driver installed "automatically" by Windows 7. I don't understand if this would be the Windows Update version 2 or the Lenovo version 7... http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-73682  Per Bylund

Answer:Update wireless driver?

Very interesting. There seem to be no Lenovo Windows 7 drivers for the Thinkpad 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter... odd.

I can suggest three ways for you to go to get updated drivers, depending on your risk tolerance an patience:

1. Fill out a Lenovo support site feedback form (link on the left side of every support page) and wait (they often respond within 24 hours).

2. Removed.

3. Let Windows update load the driver from the Microsoft update catalog (it is the correct Atheros driver).

Do come back and tell us how it goes!

Edit: I removed the most risky option while I do some investigation.

I've got a 2012 HP Pavillion Dv6-6c43cl running Win 7 Home Premium with an Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 card. Two or three times a day, the wireless connection stalls and drops, forcing me to disconnect and then re-connect to the wireless signal, after which it seems to work fine (for a while). And even when it is running, the wireless speed on the Dv6 is only about half that of a 2016 model HP Pavillion 15T that I have sitting right next to it. So it seems that I've either got a faulty wireless card or I need newer drivers, right? Assuming that's true, the safest and easiest bet is probably to try updating the drivers first to see if that resolves the connection issues. The problem is, HP Support Assistant says there are no updated drivers for my Dv6. Yet when I go to the HP software and driver site for my model Dv6, it offers what I think is an updated driver for my laptop. "Intel Wireless Drivers, Intel PROSet, and Intel My WiFi for Microsoft Windows 7 ver. 15.1.0.18"  (Aug 31, 2016). Is that, in fact, the updated driver for my Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 card? Or is it something else? And why is HP Support Assistant telling me that there are no updated drivers for my card? Finally, if it's a better bet to forget the drivers and simply update the card instead, should I order a new Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 or get a newer faster card -- and if so, which one? Your advice is much appreciated here. ... Answer:Should I update wireless driver or not?

Hi: You have to look at the driver version and date near the exe download file.  The August 2016 date is just the date the file was uploaded to the support page.  HP periodically revises the support pages.  That does not necessarily mean the drivers were updated. Here is the latest driver which you can use directly from Intel...1st driver on the list for W7 32 bit (although didn't your PC come with W7 64 bit?).   18.12.0  Date: 8/10/2015  The 64 bit driver is the 2nd one on the list. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25203/Intel-PROSet-Wireless-Software-and-Drivers-for-Windo... Your notebook has a BIOS whitelist which blocks unsupported wireless cards from being installed. You can only install one of the cards listed in the service manual and they must have the HP Part number on them or they will not work.  Also some of the part numbers listed in the manual are incorrect, which makes it even harder to change the wireless cards out.

Hi,

I just downloaded and installed the latest graphic card driver of satellite 1000 Z2 which is Intel (R) 82830M chipset Driver Revision: 6.14.10.3889. However, it does not work.

I wonder if I should update my BIOS first. Thanks

Answer:Satellite 1000-Z2: Intel GPU driver does not work - Should I update BIOS?

Hi there,

it?s always a good idea to keep the BIOS up-to-date. So, it would be the best you try the BIOS update and then reinstall the graphics card driver. You can also (if not already did) check www.intel.com and download the drivers from there, they are some times more up-to-date than the toshiba drivers. :)

Plz give some feedback if the graphics card installation was successful after BIOS update.

Cheers

I have had a Yoga for several weeks now and find it to be a great machine. One feature that I usually always look for in a laptop is the ability to use the function (Fn) key with the arrow (direction) keys. Some manufacturers assign volume or brightness to the arrow function keys, however, my preference is to use them for advanced cursor management in which the Home (left), End (right), Page Up (up), and Page Down (down) keys are mapped.

The Yoga currently has no alternate function key capabilities assigned to the arrow keys. So I wonder what the possibility of these being added as a future driver/bios update might be..?

(I find that many other manufacturers have been adopting such a function key layout with their laptops.)

In my opinion, volume and brightness belong as functions of the F1-F12 keys, which is the case for the Yoga. Also, there is an actual dedicated volume button on the left side, so volume is definitely covered.

Additionally, I was pleased to find an existing setting in the Bios that allows the F1-F12 keys to be toggled for use as standard "F" keys. As a software developer, I regularly use these keys for debugging (as well as for many other application specific shortcuts). So I do commend the designers for implementing this as a user preference in the Bios. I think that the existence of real Home/End/PageUp/PageDown keys is why they didn't bind those functions to the arrow keys (as with the keyboard examples in your picture).  I have used the nifty SharpKeys utility with such keyboards on my older laptops to custom map those functions to specific function keys, so perhaps it will allow you to map Fn-Up as you wish on the Yoga: http://www.randyrants.com/sharpkeys/

hey elmarjason,if i'm not mistaken the bootable bios CD is in an .ISO format . what you could do is this and do note that this is a suggestion and not an official method from Lenovo.download the ISO file .get this software >> http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/use the above software to make a USB memory stick to become bootable.set your unit's bios to boot from USB and in theory; you should be able to load the bios for installation.

It's asking to be updated for the 7th time. The exact same update. How can I get it to recongnize the previous updates or delete them so I can properly update it once?

I have been unable to update the wireless driver on my X61.  I have attempted to use System Update as well as installing it manually and it doesn't work either way.  When attempting to install it manually, a screen comes up saying that it is unable to locate a required file and gives the path to a Windows installer then the following: {F22FD942-651D-4EE8-BD6F-7E0AF5E17625}.  Any ideas on what it causing the problem or how to get around it and install the updated drivers?

Can you try uninstalling the existing drivers first?

Dear All,

I was happy owner of Satellite P100-437 for already 4 months, but last week i start to have big trouble with my laptop. First, next day after i bought the laptop with Vista, i downgrade my laptop to Windows XP SP2 and everything was fine. I had everything working and i enjoyed my laptop a lot. Last week i checked Toshiba web site for new drivers and i downloaded the new bios update 4.00-WIN and i apply it.

After that started the headache. I suddenly lost my sound, but in device manager the sound card is working fine. Besides, the small light in the wireless switch is disappeared and then the wireless device, also stating in the device manager that is working fine.

I backed up all my data, and reinstall win xp, clean, and i installed the sound drivers and nothing changed, the sound is still missing. Same story with the wireless. Yesterday, i witnessed something else, i attached one external hard drive, which is using usb connection and need also usb power, and suddenly the sound and the wireless come back for while, but interrupting and finally disappeared again.

So, now I wonder what to do and any help on this matter will be appreciated. I work on cruise ships and my laptop there is priceless.

Deniz

Answer:Satellite P100: After BIOS update 4.00-WIN can not use sound card & wireless

Hello Deniz

I told everyone every time: Please do not do anything while OS runs well!!!

Please remember this. The problem is that your notebook is delivered with Vista OS and BIOS is also designed for Vista. You were very lucky to run WXP successfully and now you updated the Vista designed BIOS again. I am really not wondering you have problems now.

What to do in this situation? It is very good questions. Try to reinstall drivers for sound and WLAN. Maybe it will help. Maybe clean WXP installation. I can not say for sure. I have A200 (also Vista preinstalled) and I believe at the moment I have no interest to update anything. Not yet.

Bye and good luck!

Hi guya,at the moment I am trying to get all drivers together for the new windows 8.So far so good. I got almost all, but the newest BIOS Update contains an README which is mentioning to install a specific USB 3.0 driver prior flashing the new BIOS.But where can I get the driver? Also for windows 7 there has been a chipset-driver, will there also one in windows 8? In the download section you can download a driver for the use of the caching-ssd called Intel RapidStorage, but as far as I know, does Lenovo use Expresscache under windows 7..   mentioned abstract from BIOS-Update: - Lenovo recommends to install the USB 3.0 driver for Windows (Version  1.4.0.225 or higher) prior to updating the BIOS. Because the BIOS requires  the modification in the USB 3.0 driver to fix USB 3.0 related issues.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the latest driver from the lenovo site, but I keep getting an error saying that I need to update the driver.  Does anyone have any tips on how to do this?  I want to use ThinkAdvantage Access, but I am not able to without the correct driver.  Also, the wireless radio periodically goes out and I have to reboot to re-initialize. Thanks in advance,Donald

Welcome to the forum! What ThinkPad are we discussing here to begin with? And, if possible, can you post the 7-character model number and the OS that you're running? Good luck and keep us posted.

Using System Update, I am notified of a Critical Update:?Proceeding with the update, it performs a reset however, does not successfully complete - i.e., all steps are completed but device driver is not updated and the update re-appears in the System Update repeatedly.I also visited the Support page for my device, downloaded the package manually and attempted to complete installation (as an Administrator), unsuccessfully.  The install reaches the point where it seeks a Driver Installation Package and continuously fails, regardless of where the Setup files are placed.  I've posted a sequence of screenshots below.????Please advise of solution as I experience the same endless loop of unsuccessful updates with other Intel updates via the System Update Tool.

Hi there, My System: Lenovo X240 with Windows 10 x64 I have the following problem: Intel Wireless LAN Driver 18.11.0 stays in System Update even though it is already installed. What I have already tried:Downloading the driver from the website and repairing itUninstalling the driver from Control Panel, rebooting and installing it again from System Update Neither of the above resolved the issue. See the screenshot below (clickable): As I understand, System Update somehow fails to detect that the driver is already installed. Is there a way to fix this? Thank you.

I have a Thinkpad X1 Yoga (20FQ) with an Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260 network adapter.  Windows 10 64-bit. Ever since updating the Intel Wireless LAN Driver to version 19.71.1, I have had an intermittent, but frequent, slow wireless internet connection.  Rolling the driver back to version 19.70.0.100 seems to have solved the issue so far.  Has anyone else had that same issue?

Hi all.

So after updating my computer (HP pavilion dv6) last night I've run into some problems. First, my wireless driver is not working properly. Nothing comes up when I trouble shoot, I cannot enable and disable with either the device manager or the wireless button at the top of my computer.

My first instinct was to run a system restore back to yesterday but:
When I try to run System Restore I get the message "System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed. Details: The data is invalid. (0x8007000D)".

This is followed by another message "There was an unexpected error: Catastrophic failure (0x8000FFFF) Please close System Restore and try again."

I realize this might need to be placed in a different thread. I'm new here. Everything was just working prior to the latest update.

Answer:Problem with wireless driver after latest update

When restore points fail, I can get a little worried. On an HP hit F2 when booting to run diagnostics and make sure everything is testing ok. I'm not saying that system restore always works, and I have seen when it doesn't work but the system is ok (hardware wise).

Next go to HP's web site and go to support/driver downloads and type in your machine and download the latest wireless driver (or do this on another PC). Next, open the start menu, right click on my computer and go to manage. Once that leads go down to Device manager, you should see your wireless with most likely a yellow "!". Right click on it and go to properties. Look for the driver tab and then a button to "Roll back driver". If you can no click it, then close that window. Right click the Wireless again and choose "uninstall". After doing this go ahead and run the driver you downloaded off HP's website, and see if that corrects the issue.

Sometimes even after installing the correct driver if the Wireless will not work is a sign of a failing motherboard, especially on an HP DV6 laptop. I have seen this a number of times. A quick fix that will slightly prolong the life of the laptop at that point is a USB wifi adapter, but if this is truly the issue, the laptop doesn't have much time left.

The most common laptops I see for repair are the DV6 and it's bigger brother DV9.

Hi

I read another post about a BIOS update for the Lenovo C200 AIO which cured the black screen in WIndows when you used the Intel Driver from Windows Update.

However the only drivers listed on the Lenovo support site for the C200 AIO are for nvidia, no bios update or anything else.

Can anyone point me in the direction of where I can download the BIOS update and also where I can download the Intel Driver specifically made for the Lenovo C200 AIO ?

Answer:Lenovo C200 All In One BIOS Update - cure Intel Driver black screen ?

Are you looking in the official C200 AIO driver matrix?

I see one BIOS link there. Not sure if it's what you seek, though.
There are also Intel video drivers listed. Might be worth checking them out.

Hope this helps.
Regards.
