I've installed the atheros wireless network adapter software from the toshiba website, however the netwok adapter light won't turn on and the computer won't discover anyy wireless networks. All other drivers work great,

Preferred Solution: NB250 - Wireless won't turn on

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: NB250 - Wireless won't turn on

Is WLAN card installed properly (device manager)?
Is WLAN card enabled properly?

Can you use FN+F8 key combination to enable/disable WLAN card?

BTW: have you made clean Win7 installation?

Hi All,
I am using Windows 8.1 and had to refresh my computer as I was experiencing some problems. Everything seemed to be normal so I started slowly installing the programs I had before. Now a few days after, I find that my wireless device is Off and Flight Mode is On. I have been in settings but the relevant switches are disabled.
Can anybody tell me how to fix this please ? I really don't know how it happened. Can it be that my laptop is still infected ?

Answer:Turn Off Flight Mode & Turn On Wireless Devices

Is there a physical switch on your laptop for wireless? Often on the edges of your laptop... easy to miss.

I have a x201 cto using 64bits Win 7. The wireless adapter is intel advanced-N 6200. However, I found my wireless always turn off suddenly and I can not turn it on anymore (even using Fn+F5) until reboot. Does anyone have same experience? Please tell me what's the problem. Many thanks

Answer:x201 wireless always suddenly turn off and can not turn on again.

Yes, i have the same issue. Though it suffices if you deactivate and activate your WLAN adapter @ networkcenter, you don't need to reboot. This happened to me a couple of times as well.

I disabled Multi-Core in BIOS so i don't have regular lags.I always keep energy saving settings to "Maximum Performance" so i don't have regular contrast issues.I deinstalled ThinkAdvantage Access Connections so i don't have random WLAN Adapter "power offs".

Question: WXP on NB250

So my Toshiba NB250 came with windows 7 starter and i was wondering if i could install xp on it and how and also would i need to download xp drivers?

Answer:WXP on NB250

Installing XP would be a headache to get everything up and running, you need to use a USB Floppy Drive to install the SATA Driver, and install all the XP drivers from the Toshiba website (if they even exist).

Is there a reason you need to go back to XP?

If you can't get an application or USB device working, there are ways around the problem.

I need to know what type of RAM 2GB is compatible to replace the 1GB module(2Rx16 PC2-6400S-666-12) currently installed on my notebook.

Question: Toshiba NB250

tHi everyone, bought a Toshiba NB250 today, brought it home and found that the volume did not work. It would work for a second and then cut off. I restart the netbook and it does it again. I reinstalled the sound drive, still does it. Also it seems to struggle with the most basic things open, iTunes takes ages to load, searches, waiting for my computer to open and load. At one point there was also a weird buzzing sound coming from inside, I'm assuming the hard drive, I gave it a light tap and it stopped. Brand new from argos today, any help please? Thanks

Answer:Toshiba NB250

Netbooks have the highest failure rate of any other type of computer. Needless to say Toshiba usually has great quality and design there are defective one's out there. I would RMA it and save yourself the headache.

If you are dead set in trying to fix this try to perform a factory recovery via F8 into repair your computer then Toshiba Recovery wizard.

Hope this helps.

When I run Windows Update on laptop NB250 the installation of Windows 7 SP1 is recommended. Notwithstanding the computer is not able to install this update, and shows error code 800F0829.

In this website I learned that NB250 is compatible with SP1. For this reason I would like to ask for a solution for this problem. Thank you in advance for your collaboration.

Answer:WIN 7 SP1 cannot be installed on NB250

After the error code does the computer display something like "Connect the computer to an electrical outlet and try again" if so try the update with your computer connected to a mains electric supply.

If that doesn't work then there is a troubleshooter for updates :-
Open the Windows Update troubleshooter by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting. Under System and Security, click Fix problems with Windows Update.

Dear people,
I have a NB250 (PLL2PE) notebook which gives a 0xc00000e9 failor code. I want to re?nstall windows hoping this will help, but the notebook does not have a cd-rom drive, neither did i receive any installation cd-roms. (probably because of the lack of a drive?) I only have the windows installation code on the sticker at the bottom.

How can i manage to re?nstall windows? F8/F12 doesn't work and windows can start so i can't do anything else.
Is there somewhere i can download the files i need?

Kindly greetings, Mirjam

Answer:How to reinstall Windows without ODD on my NB250?

Hello Mirjam

Generally speaking if there is no big problem you should be able to install original recovery image using HDD recovery installation mode as described on

If I understand your situation right you didn?t create recovery USB stick that should be used in such situations.

Now you have two options:
1/ to order original Toshiba recovery DVD or
2/ install Windows using Microsoft installation disc

Of course for both options you must have external USB optical disc drive. Of course there is option to create bootable USB stick with Windows and use it for OS installation. Problem is that product key placed on the bottom of your machine cannot be used for OS activation. This code belongs to original recovery image.

All this is a bit complicated but easiest option is to order original Toshiba installation disc on

If you have it try to obtain USB ODD and installation will be very simply and done very quickly.

I wanted to check if I can install *Windows 8* on a Netbook, the *NB250* ?

Experience of anyone who has done this is welcome...
if you are using such a setup, I'd like to know about the system performance..

Thanks in advance..

Cheers !

Answer:Windows 8 installable on NB250 ?

What you should check at first is Toshiba Win8 support for your machine.
You can do this on under Toshiba Compatibility Matrix.

Anyway, let?s see if anyone will post some experience about Win8 installation on this netbook.
For instance my NB520 is not supported.

I have a Toshiba NB250-001 PLL2PC with no speech server and I downloaded the program from but I can't install it on my laptop because it isn't supported by my processor type.

So why you want a speech engine for English or French? I mean if your processor type is not supported another language will not help you.

Furthermore it?s not a Toshiba related issue and I would recommend contacting Microsoft. I?m sure they can give you a detailed answer and they know more about their own products ;)

I have a NB250-108 that has been upgraded in RAM to 2 from 1 (sorry I am rubbish at techy stuff) as a friend suggested it would speed her up. (which it did)

I have had her a few years now and the battery isn't lasting as long and I have problems with charging as I have to really wiggle the charger to get it to work so I was wondering if it is time to face facts and rather than end up constantly spending money on her and ending up with Triggers broom I should get a newer version ?

Can anyone advise me what the difference would be for everyday use between this and the NB510-11U ? ie would it be as fast as my upgraded RAM NB250-108 ?

Please excuse my ignorance, but I am a total novice and only use my netbook for hotmail, ebay etc
Many thanks in advance

Jen x

Answer:Re: Difference between the NB250-108 and NB510-11U ?

As I already wrote in other thread:
Both notebooks NB250-106 and NB510-11U are just a little bit different:

The NB250 supports 1GB RAM, NB510 supports 2GB RAM
Both units seems to be equipped with an Intel Atom CPU. So there is no big difference.
Display size is the same 10.1?

The NB510 is equipped with bigger HDD 320GB (NB250 supports 250GB)

So to be honest, there is only a big difference in RAM.

Hi all,

Yesterday I noticed that the sound on my NB250 wasn't working - Speaker or headphones. I've tried reloading the Realtek HD audio drivers but still no joy. There's a cross on the loudspeaker on the status bar and hovering the cursor over it, gives the message 'no audio output device is installed'.

Looking at the Audio tab in the sound properties in control panel shows that no audio devices are installed.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Answer:NB250 Sound Problems

In my opinion there is a problem with the sound driver.
You should firstly uninstall the sound driver. You can do this in device manager.

Go to device manager, choose Audio controller, uninstall the driver and reboot the notebook.
Then you should download the latest sound driver from the Toshiba European driver page.

Unzip the package and then install the driver once again.

Good luck

Need help, my netbook do nothing. No lights and sound.
My question, the accu is bad. Is it possible the accu is blame for it.
Or is it the motherboard. Last one I turn it normaly off, no problems.

Thanks for answer!

Answer:NB250-10R - no power no lights

You can try to remove battery pack and try to start it with AC power supply only. If this will not work maybe is there some problem with power supply electronic placed on the mainboard.

When you connect AC power supply is AC IN indicator on?

Fixed by reinstalling Energy Management. I had uninstalled as there seemed to be more than one energy/battery management program.

Nowadays, wireless router is a basic device at home because wireless access point (AP) is required. Sometime, a wireless repeater is also needed in a big house especially that with a big yard. Actually, without wireless router, only a Windows 7 laptop can be turned into a WiFi hotpot or a wireless repeater. Many discussions can be found online regarding how to turn Windows 7 laptop into a WiFi AP or virtual WIFI hotpot, however, the internet surfing is based on a local area connection. If wanna extend a WIFI signal to an enhanced new wireless AP, generally two wireless adapters are considered.

Here, differently, with only one wireless adapter but without 3rd-party software, we can setup a wireless repeater in a Windows 7 Home Basic or Home Premium laptop with only one wireless adapter. This can boost the wireless signal to smartphones, tablet computers, or other wireless devices. Also, the mobility and flexibility allow extending the signal to a yard or a garage conveniently as you want.

It is known that a virtual wireless adapter can be created with a third party software or only Windows 7 built-in commands. But in Windows 7 Home Basic or Home Premium, usually the virtual wireless adapter cannot be created or a hosted network cannot be started. I found a specific approach to clear the issues.

We can follow the steps (successful setup in my two Windows 7 Home laptops),

1. Click Start, point to All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and th... Read more

Answer:Turn Windows 7 Laptop into Wireless Repeater with One Wireless Adapter

This method is available for starting soft AP of Windows 7 Home Premium laptop when set up repeater, some third party softwares or methods can create soft AP for Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate only.

Hello. Toshiba NB250-G, part no. PLL2XE-001001EN originally with win 7 32 bit.

I'm trying to install Vista for reason of compatibility with family machines. The installation proceeds to collecting files and then stops with the following message:- Error code 0x80070070 Windows cannot copy files required for installation etc etc. I suspect the need for a driver to precede the windows files.

Can anyone help me, please?

Answer:Cannot install Vista on my Toshiba NB250-10G

I have checked Toshiba download page and, as I can see your machine is not supported for Vista. It is supported for Win7 32bit only so, in my opinion it would be better to stay with Win7.
I don't know what kind of compatibility is important for you but there is no big difference between Vista and Win7.

I presume you have created bootable USB stick with Vista. When Vista setup wizard starts is HDD recognized properly? Can you create or choose partition where OS should be installed?

We have recently purchased a number of NB250-10G Netbooks, some have been ordered with 2GB of memory and some with 1GB. For a few 1GB machines, upgrade 2GB modules have been purchased to retrospectively upgrade them to 2GB (Correct DDR3 Toshiba Kingston KTT1066D3/2G).

When the memory upgrade is installed, when the netbook is started it switches on, then switches off, then switches on - this cycle continues. I have tried many KTT1066D3/2G modules and all do the same in any NB250-10G netbooks that were shipped with 1GB.

_All_ 2GB modules work in _all_ NB250-10G's purchased with 2GB. _No_ 2GB modules work in _any_ NB250-10G's purchased with 1GB.

Both the NB250-10Gs supplied with 1GB and 2GB have same bios version (1.3) and bios settings.

After a quick web search this is a known issue.

Is there a quick fix to the following problem?

My children changed and forgot the windows password for our NB250. I have a Bios password so that comes up first. We need to use this computer for school so your help is much appreciated. Issues:

I do not have the windows password
There is not an administrator account
We have Windows 7 starter on the system
I tried pressing zero and holding it down after typing in the Bios pw - nothing
I do not have a usb or other password reset file

Any ideas?

Answer:Resetting the Windows password on a NB250

Wait a moment. You are talking about BIOS and Windows User Account password.
I assume the BIOS password is known to you and you can boot up the notebook properly but you cannot login to Windows using Windows user account.

Is this correct?

In case you want to reset Windows password I recommend checking this Microsoft page:
[What to do if you forget your Windows password|]

_it says:_
+If you forget the administrator password and don't have a password reset disk or another administrator account, you won't be able to reset the password. If there are no other user accounts on the computer, you won't be able to log on to Windows and will need to re-install Windows.+

Hi - Can anyone help

My netbook is only two weeks old and the webcam was working perfectly, but now I am getting the following error message on startup: "Webcam initialisation failed".
I have tried reloading the driver, but this does'nt work. Also I cannot see the webcam appearing in the device manager?

Any suggestions would be gratefully received - Thanks

Answer:NB250-108 - Webcam initialisation failed

Hmm? It seems that something has muddled up the webcam driver?

You wrote that you have reinstalled the driver but how? In your case I would remove the driver from control panel > Uninstall software and then restart the computer. Now run ?CCleaner? and check for registry issues and clean it (very useful and freeware tool). Restart again and install latest webcam software from official Toshiba website.

By the way: What OS you have?

I read on the forum that I need to update my bios but how? Please help

Answer:NB250 - blank screen on start up

Why updating the BIOS if your computer is not able to start properly?

Either the internal display is malfunctioning and doesn?t show a picture or it?s serious hardware malfunction like mainboard itself.

At first I would connect an external monitor before you start the notebook to check if it?s a monitor problem or not. After you have connected it, turn on the computer and press FN+F5 key combination to switch on external monitor.

If it doesn?t help check this article:

Hi, just got a NB250 which has too much software preinstalled I simply don't want and would like rid of - skype, nero, Mcafee, wildtangent games, office 2010 - I just want windows and the toshiba programmes and nothing else to begin with. Additional software I want to make my own choices thank you very much.

I've tried uninstalling these programmes, but as I expected that's caused some issues - there's still bits of these programmes about (the games still appear in the 'games folder' although they no longer exist and I can't delete these dead links; short cuts are still there for mcafee etc). I don't want to go rooting through registry etc to try and clean things -(and shouldn't have to!). I just want to reinstall the OS and Toshiba programmes without all the junk Toshiba are insisting I have. Can I do this???

I hope someone can help - I can find no email to contact Toshiba directly.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:NB250 reinstalling windows 7 question

If you want to install Windows fresh, you will need to purchase a retail version of Windows and download+install the Toshiba drivers/utilities from the Toshiba website. The license key on the Base is only for the preinstalled Toshiba version of Windows.

To remove the dead links, download and run CCleaner to check the registry.

Ensure you have the Toshiba Value Added Package installed, that is the most important one.

How do I recover/reinstall the SYSTEM (E:) partition on my NB250-108 given that I did something quite stupid and messed up my SYSTEM (E:) partition so that no software resides within that partition now.

The information that I would like is what should be the Partition sizes for DATA (D:) and SYSTETM (E:), what software should I have installed under the SYSTEM partition and is there any URLs where I can download it from, does this software also need to be made bootable? (for system recovery etc).

Please Note: That I still have all the software that I should under the DATA (D:) partition and its only the SYSTEM (E:) partition software missing. I am hoping to avoid having to pay out for the recovery DVD!!!

No, you cannot download the Toshiba image.
If you want to install the Toshiba image from recovery disk then you have to order the disk from here:

Then you would be able to reinstall the Toshiba image but for this you would need an external USB CD/DVD drive.

The other possibility.
You could install an fresh Windows 7 OS using a USB stick.
For this you would need something like Wintoflash

Necessary driver could be downloaded from Toshiba driver page

Hi everyone... After reinstalling windows, I kept getting the "Turn on your wireless capabilty" message. I was pressing the Fn + F9 combination, yet nothing happened. I am sad to say, that lenovo has very poor driver download selection:for my model, i could download 4 different wireless adapter drivers (everything from intel to realtek). So how was i supposed to know which driver to get.... So the first thing I checked was the BIOS settings, if i had the wireless radio ON.... After downloading the correct driver... I still kept getting the same message... Checking the wireless card was not disabled in the Network diagnostics... AGAIN IT DID NOT WORK ANYWAY... The problem was not in the driver, or the BIOS, or the WINDOWS 7 SETTING. The problem was with the motherboard???bios???powermanagement??? setting I had to install the Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 7.... After that it was still not working... Then I installed Power Manager for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Vista (32-bit, 64-bit) - ThinkPad Key combination still not working... no wireless internet THEN I INSTALLED ThinkPad Power Management driver for Windows 7 After EVERYTHING installed, the menu came back and i could enable the WIRELESS adapter. FML...Thank you lenovo, for making this a horrible experience...  Lenovo, I am dissapoint....

Dear All, I need help not good at this at all ,so guidenance needed or wheelie bin!

He looked and tried to reboot f12 & now it will come on & will load toshiba page with f2 or f12 to reboot at the bottom of page the goes to blank page with small dash at top left corner & nothing else.

I think its had it, any ideas , anyone , or has it died.Luv a reply

>He looked and tried to reboot f12 & now it will come on & will load Toshiba page with f2 or f12 to reboot at the bottom of page the goes to blank page with small dash at top left corner & nothing else.

It looks a little bit like a HDD issue.

I had the same blinking dash in the left upper corner and I had to replace the HDD.
Please check the BIOS setting (F2). Usually the HDD should be listed there?
If it?s not listed, then the HDD is faulty for sure?

You can also check the HDD using 3rd aprty software like Drive Fitness Test.
Its freeware software and you could run a diagnostic process in order to check the HDD health?.

I have a NB250 10G that until a couple of days ago had worked perfectly.
However, I then found that I could not operate the netbook with the touchpad.

However, all works fine with my USB plug-in mouse.
Everything seemed to be going haywire with the touch pad, but I now know what is wrong.

The right-hand touch-pad button works fine, but the left-hand button is producing the same result as the right-hand one. In other words, I have no working left-hand button - I can't click to open any icons, I can't close down - all that happens is that I get a mini-menu appearing just as with the right-hand button.
An online note to Toshiba has so far not been answered.

Can anyone help please? John

Answer:NB250-10G - left touchpad button does not work

Maybe you should check the touchpad button configuration.
In control panel -> mouse -> device settings you will find the different settings for touchpad.
Check this? there should be a configuration option for a touchpad buttons too.

You could also try to reinstall the touchpad driver? maybe it just a software issue

I have a 9 month old NB250, with RAM upgrade but no other mods.

After a few weeks without it being used, I started it up - no problems - but after five minutes it seemed to hibernate, then try to wake up, hibernate again, and so on in a loop. In between episodes, for the five minutes or so it runs, everything seems okay

I've tried...

setting the auto-restart to off and restarting manually
taking the battery out and putting it back in again
taking the HDD out and putting it back in again (also in an attempt to check for dust)
checking the fan is spinning on startup/spins freely
changing the RAM back to the factory module
running a temp guage program - couldn't see any problems
installing all Windows/Toshiba updates as far as I can

What I haven't done:

anything with the BIOS
taken it apart
dropped it
recovered it

I've searched on the internet and there are various suggestions for this as a generic problem. I can't belive its overheating as it happens really quickly/under no load (i.e. it does it when no programs are running). The fan spins and there is no sign of dust at all round the vents. But I am no expert by any means.

Can anyone suggest anything erlse i can try myself?

Thnaks in advance.

Answer:Re: NB250 getting stuck in restarting cycle after a few minutes

I don?t think it?s related to a high temperature.
If the notebook would overheat, then the notebook would power off automatically instead of going into hibernate mode.

Did you test the notebook with a fresh and new preinstalled OS?
I think this should be done to check if it?s not a software (windows os) issue.

What do you think?

I upgraded my Notebook NB250 to windows 8 (it came with windows 7 starter).
Now i want to return to the out of box state again with windows 7 starter.
The manual says that to do it i need to press the 0 (zero) key while powering on my pc. (i did it before once). k=false
Page 49.
Now when i press 0 it just freeze the first toshiba screen, and does nothing until i unhold the key.
I suspect its might be because i installed the windows 8.

Can anyone help and find a solution?
Is there a way to execute the toshiba recovery software manualy?
Or maby a way to recover the internal drive storage in any other way?

Thank you

Answer:NB250 Restore to out of box state after upgrading to Win8

I don't know if your NB is US or European model but posted manuals must be US version.
Anyway, how it works is pretty similar.
Notebook delivered with preinstalled OS (recovery image) has also saved original recovery image on the HDD.
So long HDD is not defective and notebook has ?factory settings? you will be able to install recovery image from HDD.
If you check this user?s manuals on page 56 you will see detailed instructions and explanation how to create recovery media (USB) that you can use if HDD is defective or HDD recovery installation won?t start (your situation).

I presume you didn?t create this recovery USB media so now you have a problem. After your own OS version installation your NB doesn't have factory settings anymore and you will not be able to have access to saved recovery image and possibility to start recovery image installation. Only way to have it again is recovery image installation using recovery media.

I have inherited a Toshiba NB250.
I'm having trouble upgrading to Windows 10 - I can't bootup from a CD and there is no option to bootup from USB.

I connected an external USB CD drive. I cant do anything.

I've looked through the BIOS settings, and there is only HDD, FDD and LAN options for booting.

I cant see any other settings anywhere.

I want to install a new SSD hard drive. I have a Windows 10 licence that I can install.

I cant take out the current hard drive and bootup. If I put Windows 10 setup in the root of the new SSD, will that work?

If that is the best way, what options should I choose when getting the drive ready? What should I format as and how should I arrange the drives? Would a single drive be just fine?

I'm stuck and not sure what to do.

my netbook has been sat unused and out of the way for about 6 months.
When I tried to use it the other week it was performing very slowly and kept crashing so I tried to clear unwanted programs from it but I couldn't.

The netbook kept crashing whenever I tried to uninstall programs and trying to do anything on it, even open up internet explorer took about 5 minutes, it's quicker on my dad's 15 year old laptop that has a whopping 256mb of ram in it! I gave up and decided to restore it to factory settings. I found the Toshiba HDD recovery option and folowed the instructions.

Part of the way through the process a window popped up saying 'Windows could not complete the installation. To install windows on this computer, restart the installation'. I clicked OK, all in all I have restarted the machine about 6 times with the same message.

I tried to start it up in safe mode and on the 5th try (previous 4 brought up the same message) I have got 'Windows failed to start.
A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer
2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next"
3. Click "Repair your computer"
File: \windows\system32\config\system

Answer:Windows could not complete the installation - Toshiba NB250

It is not easy to say what is wrong there. If the recovery image and HDD are OK you should be able to install recovery image and use your neetbook with factory settings.
When you got this netbook as new machine I presume you didn?t create recovery USB media. Can you confirm this?
> Now I've bought a new USB drive and booted from that.
And what is saved on this USB drive?

I cannot say for sure what the problem is but now you should test original recovery image installation and see what happen. In case that the same happen again and again, problem can be related to HDD.

in the past I used Lubuntu 16.04 LTS on my NB250, it worked fine. Now I want to install it as dualboot with Win 7 Starter.
I just reinstalled Win 7 Starter from a recovery stick and work on removing all the bloatware.

Are there special points to look at, before trying to install Lubuntu, for instance bootmanager or something like this ?

Answer:NB250-107 - Local Drive Q: extra, without function (?)

It seems that the Q: local disk does not appear in the disk management and therefore it cannot be a partition on the HDD.
I think it?s also not a Toshiba HDD recovery partition or partition where the HDD files are stored.

Did you notice this Q: local disk from the first day of purchase?
Do you have any USB flash stick or USB devices connected to the notebook?

New user. Hope this is in correct forum.

Trying to create back up to USBMemory Stick using Recovery Media Creator. Says USB Memory Stick needs to be greater than 6.7Gb.
I am using an 8GB USB Memory Stick but fails every time at the format stagewith various error messages and renders the memory stick unusable until reformatted.
Any ideas or suggestions appreciated.

Answer:NB250 - Error when creating recovery media

Hi wrightp2,

Usually an USB stick with 8GB should be enough for creating the recovery files properly. I have also used an 8GB USB stick from CnMemory and this worked.

Have you tested another USB stick?
I?m not sure but maybe the USB stick isn?t working properly anymore and so the recovery media creator can?t finish. It?s worth a try ;)

Hi All,

I face this problem with my NB250 laptop.

Steps to replicate the problem
i. Internal microphone and speakers are activated
ii. Play some audio.
iii. Close the lid while the audio is being played.
iv. When the lid is closed (or even when it is brought very near keypad) there is a loud screeching sound.

I went to the shop from where i bought the laptop. The technician there said that this sound is made because the microphone is brought directly above the speaker when the lid is closed.
But, i dont think that sound should be made when lid is closed.

I would be obliged if the following queries are answered:
i. Is this a problem with only with NB250?
ii. Is this a problem which is common to all laptops which have the speakers placed beside the touchpad, thus bringing the mic over the speakers when the lid is closed ?
iii. If this is a problem only with my laptop, what do i need to get it repaired/replaced ?

Answer:NB250 makes screeching sound when lid is closed

Hi mate

I think you are speaking about the looping sound between speaker <-> microphone.
I don?t have this notebook model but I found an interesting How TO from Toshiba about similar theme. It?s addresses to L500 series.

Check this:
+Whistling sound+

Disable the microphone volume in the speakers properties and this should help to get rid of such sound.

I just got a new Toshiba NB250 and it makes an intermittent clicking sound. It actually sounds similar to a camera shutter, or ejecting a cd from a CD-ROM. It occurs even when the sound is muted. I think it might be related to the mains power supply, because I only seem to hear it when it is on mains power.

Is this normal? No other pc I've ever had has made this sound, and I've had computers for over 20 years.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Laptop runing Windows 7.

I bought this computer a year ago, and have never used my wireless card.

I'm trying to enable it, and when I go to Windows Mobility Center, the "Turn Wireless On" command is greyed out.

Under Device Manager, it indicates that my wireless card, a Realtek RTL819SE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC, is working properly. I went to the driver tab and disabled it and then enabled it again just to make sure, but that didn't affect this problem.

Can anyone tell me how to enable my wireless card?

Answer:"Turn Wireless On" is greyed out for wireless card - Windows Mobility Center

Look for a switch on the front, or try something like Control and the function key with the wireless symbol on it, by pressing both at the same time. My Acer Netbook, it is Ctrl-F2, but may be different on yours.

I just a new tablet PC, the Asus R1F, and the first time it went into power save mode it turned the wireless card off, and now I absolutely cannot find a way to turn it back on. The computer is using the Intel PRO Wireless configuration tool, which tells me that 'wireless is turned off, click below to turn it back on', but there is no option to turn it on. The software will not let me use Windows to configure wireless. The wireless on/off switch is definitely switched on.

I could only find one other page on the internet where someone was having a similar problem is here:

We have a fairly new Asus laptop and for some reason we can't get the wireless to turn on any more.

It has a Function button method to turn it on and off and any time you use this button it shows the WLAN simple with a red line through it. No matter how many times you press it it does the same thing.

I've tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling, ran a security update for the drivers. When I go into the wireless connection and try and turn it on it shows that it has a signal (not sure what to) but a red X next to the connection in windows 7. I can't actually see any wireless signals so I'm kind of at a loss.

A hard connection works fine and I tried rolling back to a previous version in case it was an update but that didn't help. The wife thinks the cat stepped on the keyboard and that's the only thing I can think of. Is that there is some keyboard command I need to do to turn it back on. There is no hard switch.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I cannot turn on my wireless.  I tried toggling the on/off switch on the left-hand-side of the laptop and also pressing Fn + F5.  Neither one makes the wireless light come on; the laptop says it can't find wireless connections, and when I hit "Troubleshoot" it recommends switching on the wireless device.  The Wifi adapter is enabled under Device Manager.  The wireless light blinks once when the computer is turned on--so I know it's not an issue with the LED.  Everything worked just fine 3 months ago, then I didn't use the computer for a bit, and now this.  Can someone please help out?  Thank you. -Mike

Answer:how can I get the wireless to turn on?

What appears in Device Manager under Network adapters? If the Intel wireless card isn't there, that's the first thing to fix. Does it perhaps appear with a yellow ? or ! under other devices? That would indicate a driver issue.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

I have a Compaq Presario C70EM , it was originally Vista and had reformatted it to Xp proffesional. For some reason my wireless would not turn on , after abit of googling i think i have a missing driver , couldnt locate it in driver diagnostics although there is an "unknown device". I have tried various driver detective software to try and find this driver, but to no avail. If someone could help me sort this , wud be grateful.

Answer:Wireless Does not turn on..Help!

Only HP/Compaq have the correct drivers for HP/Compaq computers & laptops, but they might not have XP drivers for your model if XP was not pre-installed on it at the factory.
If they don't have XP drivers for that model, you will have to re-install Vista.

Go here & select appropriate country at top right of page: Compaq - Support for Presario notebooks and desktops.

Re-check your model number as Presario C70EM is not listed.

I can't remember HOW to do this is 7, but I know that I had to do it last week when I changed a wireless password key. I had to go in to the advanced settings and find the networks. There is a list where you can change the preferred order or delete networks. Find yours and delete it.

What model Asus is it? Win 7 is making me batty lately.

You uninstalled the drivers or you uninstalled the wireless card? You should uninstall the card and reboot.

It shows connected but also a red X -- I'm going to go with removing the network from the list and re-entering the password first since that is what I had, then I'd move on to checking IP's, etc.

After some house cleaning (Cleaning out temp files, ran CCleaner's registry clean, tweaking some services, updating some drivers and deleting an unused dual-boot partition) I ran into BSODs on boot. Repair, and restore points didn't help. Ended up fixing my boot problem through BCDEDIT.exe, deleted the entries then going back to a previous restore point a few hours old.

Now that my system is up and running again I can't seem to get Wireless enabled. No wireless networks are shown.
Here's a list of things I've gone through.
-Windows Network Diagnostics says to Turn on wireless capability, fails to fix it.
-Enabled in device manager and Network adapters
-Wireless is enabled in BIOS
-Wireless switch on laptop is on
-Deleted device and drivers. Reinstalled device with latest drivers.
-Checked services, WLAN AutoConfig is running
-Windows Mobility Center's "Turn Wireless On" is greyed out
-Wireless Card is shown in ipconfig, auto configuration is enabled, state shown as Media disconnected

Is there any other services I should check to make sure they are running?
Any registry entries that can be checked?

Four possibilities come to mind ...

a. The switch is broken.
b. Somehow the wireless became disabled in the BIOS (Setup). Check it.
c. The adapter is loose or not making good contact. With laptop unplugged and battery removed, remove the bottom cover over the adapter, remove the adapter, and carefully and firmly reinsert it.
d. The adapter or the portion of the motherboard to which it connects is defective.

Answer:how do I turn on wireless

mikiejo Checking the HP product page for your laptop, it does not show it coming with MacOS preinstalled -- so this is something you must have done yourself. The problem is most likely the lack of HP WiFi drivers for MacOS. HP only provides drivers and support for OS versions that come with the laptop. IF you replaced the OS version originally on the PC with MacOS, that was a bad decision on your part.

You may have the action keys disabled in the BIOS. Try tapping the F12 key without the Fn key. When looking in the Device Manager for the wireless adapter you should expand the network adapter section. That is where it should reside if it is recognized as present by the operating system It always helps if you identify your notebook with its product key when asking questions that may involve hardware.

how to turn on\off wireless\bluetooth?on my small sony viao with Windows 7, there was an internal switch in the lower right hand corner of the screen and if you click on it you have wi-fi and bluetooth both with an on/off switch. Since I was not using my wi-fi, I slid the wi-fi into off position and later that day, I wanted to use wi-fi and the icon that was in the lower left hand corner of the screen was gone and for the past two days I have been trying to find it! every troubleshoot attempt tells me to turn on wireless capability but has never shown me "how to" turn on the wireless capability.there is a physical switch to turn on and off wireless below the wireless light but it does not work in any way now. Someone please help.

Answer:how to turn on\off wireless\bluetooth

Check Device Manager too see if it's a driver problem (you'll see an error symbol in the "Network Adapters" category if it's a driver problem). If it shows an error, re-install the wireless driver. You can download it from the Sony Vaio support website. This is the US website: for European countries, go here:

OK so I want to turn my main pc into a wireless router. I have an ethernet card, where my internet comes in. And a wireless card which is unused at the moment. I need a way to get the internet to go out through the wireless card so that I can access the internet with my ps3 and macbook.

Please dont just tell me to do the internet sharing thing, and by that i mean to this point. Right click on the lan connection, check share internet. Thats all i get most of the time when asking this question. Tha or to bridge the two which does allow me to connect to my pc via windows partition on my macbook, but I cannot access the iternet. Is there any program that will do this more easily. I did get this to work perfectly with my macbook. I had the internet go in there and then out throught the airport card and it worked fine, but windows is just such a b*tch with this stuff. Please any help will be apprediated.

p.s. I do not wish to buy another wireless router, since i seem to have the equipment to do it without one, I will try everything in my power not to have to buy another one.

Answer:Turn my pc into a wireless router???

Internet connection sharing is the obvious solution. Perhaps you have Windows Firewall or another firewall that is obstructing the communication.

During the recovery process, the wifi was turned off, and will not complete the process.  I get an error message"Restoration incomplete" "retry". In the troubleshooting section on HP support, it says to turn on WiFi, but the F12 button will not turn on. Any suggestions would be grateful. I have already performed a hard reset.

I bought a USB ethernet adapter for faster speed and also to connect to routers using ethernet cable for router setup.  How can I turn the Spin3's wireless off without disabling bluetooth which I'm using for my bluetooth mouse. Going into airplane mode will not work for me since it turns off the bluetooth as well as the wireless.  I'm not using my laptop on an airplane.  I'm using it at home and to setup other people's routers. I know how to disable the wireless via Win10's Device Manager but that requires several steps.  Is there a quick way to turn the wireless only off on the Spin3 ?

Hello! I have read many questions and answer about this problem but none of them helped me. I tried the fn key with every f? key i have in my keybord but nothing happened. I unchecked the option the option "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save energy", I enabled the wireless adapter via BIOS and still I don't have access to the internet. I searched every side of the laptop and I don't have a button to turn it on. Any other advice would be helpfull. Thank you in advance!

Hey guys, i got this laptop less than 24 hours ago, and now the wireless won't turn on. When I first got it, the wireless worked for a little while, but then the switch on the front of the laptop doesn't seem to do anything, the wireless light above the keyboard will not come on. When I go to the WIFI manual diagnostics and run a test, it fails the radio test. Is the WIFI switch broken?

Answer:Y550 wireless won't turn on

Your wireless adapter probably turnoff/disable. Try to press FN + F-key that show wireless symbol. I don't remember what F-key exactly.

Have just installed 2 new 512MB memory cards to bring L10 up to maximum 1GB memory. Had basic 256MB in before and was getting really slow.
However, now can't access the internet wirelessly - worked fine before albeit slowly!

I keep getting the 'wireless communication switch is off' message, despite pressing the silver button on the front and trying Fn+F8. Seems to come on for a second then goes off again. I've never had to do this before.
Everything else seems to be fine. Running XP OS.

Does anyone have any ideas please?

Answer:Satellite Pro L10 - Can't wireless turn on

To be honest I doubt that this has something to do with the RAM upgrade. Normally this doesn?t affect the wireless function of your notebook.

Anyway, firstly I would try to reinstall the WLAN driver. You can get the latest version on the Toshiba website: > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

Make also sure that BIOS version is the latest one.

I seem to be having troubles getting my wireless internet connection to work. It was working yesterday, but now its just not going. I try to use the switch to turn on wireless signal, but it doesn't work. It shows the hourglass waiting for it to load and eventually it ends and nothing happens. Does anyone else happen to have had this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Answer:Wireless Radio Won't Turn On

I don't know if you have ThinkVantage Access Connection or not. If you have it, then try uninstalling. If it's still not working, just let us know. So we can find what might cause this problem.

A few days ago the wireless adapter on my computer (Sony VAIO laptop) suddenly stopped working. Troubleshooter says wireless capability is turned off even though when I check, the adapter is enabled and is "working properly." There is not a physical switch on the computer and no other way I know of to turn it on.
I cannot think of Anything that had happened immediately before this. I did try a system restore to before I had the problem, to no avail. I did also check a few places in the registry as suggested by a google search. I'm not positive exactly what I should be looking for but didn't see anything I thought looked unusual.
Also, don't know if it's related, but every time I restart, the BIOS opens (insydeh2o setup utility) and I have to exit out of it. Thanks in advance for your help.
