Satellite L50-A00V - Need Toshiba hotkey function for Windows 8.1

Question: Satellite L50-A00V - Need Toshiba hotkey function for Windows 8.1

Hi guys

I own a Satellite L50-A00V Notebook and i just upgraded to windows 8.1 also used toshiba service station to upgarde my drivers, which worked but took like over 4hrs anyways on last update, for toshiba hptkey function, i thought the update and install was finished and i restarted but i was wrong, after restart i found that the driver was marked with a ! in device manager, i tried to update driver that way bt it says i have the best driver.. so i tried to use toshiba s3rvice station to locate and install the driver but it isnt picking it up, i think it thinks its already installed..

I am from australia and for some dumb reason toshiba hasnt provided windows 8.1 drivers yet, anyways im stuck trying to find one.. i see alot on this site have this trouble when i did a search but i couldnt find one for my specific laptop..

If someone has a link that would be great, as for Toshiba Australia what are you guys waiting for, are you waiting for window 9 before you release updated driver.. come on get your act together pls.. I dont think anyone is still on the buggy windows 8..

please release updates for windows 8.1, if toshiba service station can get them well i assume you have them s post them on the website please....

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite L50-A00V - Need Toshiba hotkey function for Windows 8.1

I?m from Europe and I?ve successfully updated my machine to Win8.1. on European download page all Win8.1 drivers, tools and utilities are available.
I?m really wondering that Australian support page doesn't offer such update.

Until you wait for updates try to visit European download page on and check updates for L50-A.
I think it must be all the same thing.

Just got this laptop and I have wiped windows 8.1 off it and installed Windows 7 as the user I am setting it up for is not prepared to use Win8 and we have no other Win8 systems in our business.

I have most everything configured and working, but I can't find any sort of download for a hotkey / function key utility so you can see the On-Screen-Display of the function / Fn buttons when they are used?

I saw that with the Win 8 install the function keys had an OSD when I was using them. However, I can't find or figure out how or where to download and set this up for using this laptop with win7 x64.

Any advice? Can I 'steal' the software from a different Toshiba model download section? What's it called?

The Windows 7 drivers for this unit can be found here:

Its recommended to install all software parts released on this page.

Dear Forum,

Recently reactivated this notebook as a backup solution with an nex HD.

Which driver / programm is necessary to bring the hotkey to function?
The display itensity is very low and backwards I was able to control that with this key function.

Thanks a lot for support and hints

Answer:Satellite S5200-903 Hotkey Function (Fn+F7/F6) Monitor Brightness

For this old notebook models the whole thing works a little bit different as on new models. Now you have one package that contains all necessary stuff for FN functionality.
On old notebooks like your Satellite 5200 you must install several different tools to get this FN functionality, not brightness control only.

So, to make all this easier I recommend you to check Installation instructions for Satellite 5200 and install all missing stuff. Please follow the installation order.

If you still need help let us know.

Dear Toshiba enthusiasts:

This week we installed three new Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 systems (two L300-153, one L300-156) with the provided Windows XP Product Recovery media from the L300-156 (no date on the disc, just two codes: GMR400841EN0 and CD 5D124624).

The machines are beautiful and very efficient except for one problem: when logging off or shutting down Windows XP, the program called "Toshiba Hotkey Properties" does not end automatically, and pops up an "End Program" dialogue box. The user can end the program immediately by clicking the "End Now" button or wait for it to time out, after which the system logs out and/or shuts down normally.

We noticed it only after installing Service Pack 3 on all machines, so I don't know if the problem was present before SP3 was applied. (We will definitely check for this on the next system and post the result.) Installing the remainder of the Windows Updates relative to Service Pack 3 didn't fix the problem. Neither did uninstalling Toshiba Hotkey Utility followed by installing the current, freshly downloaded package from Toshiba's support area.

A colleague suggested disabling related startup programs. There are two likely choices for this in the +Startup+ list of +msconfig+: *thotkey* and *TFncKy*. Disabling either one of these programs makes the problem disappear, but the functions of the *Fn* keys are lost. The key functions are also lost when uninstalling the Toshiba Hotkey Util... Read more

Answer:Satellite Pro L300 - Toshiba Hotkey Properties will not end

... just a minor correction to the above: the "End Program" dialogue never in fact times out; it just switches to another box requiring the user to confirm ending Toshiba Hotkey Properties before the system shuts down or logs off.

Again, this is the kind of thing that could be disorienting for the inexperienced user.

Would hope to get a response from a Toshiba engineer if there are any monitoring this forum.

thanks again, Robert

I can't find a review on this notebook any where on the internet.

Maybe it has a different model number in other countries.

Has anyone come across a review for the Toshiba L50-A00V notebook?

Answer:Looking for review on the Satellite L50-A00V

The Satellite L50-A00V was released for Australian market.
You can find the spec page here:

The Satellite L50 models released in other countries supports other extension: for example Satellite L50 PSKLNE series (L50T-A) was released in Europe and this is very similar (same) series

Just installed XP on my brother's Toshiba Satellite L305-S5919 and got all the drivers installed except the hotkey driver. Every time the setup starts I get an error saying "TOSHIBA Common Module not found! This setup will terminate."

I've looked for another driver for them but can't seem to find any driver other than the one on the Toshiba website. If anyone could find a solution to this I'd appreciate it. I made sure I typed in the right model number every time.

Greetings. This morning I installed Windows 7 fresh over the stock Ubuntu 14. I've managed to track and install most of the important drivers. However, the hotkey functions (adjust brightness, volume and the like) are still not working. I'm sure its due to lack of some sort of driver, but I can't figure out what needs to be installed to get them to work. I tried installing Lenovo Support Bridge, but it crashes directly on launching. Installing Lenovo Utlity hasn't been any help either; I'm getting zero indication that it's even there anywhere. I request any readers to lead me into the right direction, if possible. Thanks in advance. Regards.

I bought a Toshiba Satellite 15.6" L50-A00V Notebook

PROCESSOR: 2.4GHz Intel? Core? i7-4700MQ Quad Core Processor
SCREEN SIZE: 15.6" Display
GRAPHICS: nVIDIA GeForce GT 740M 2GB With Optimus + Intel? HD 4600 Graphics
OS: Genuine Windows 8 (64Bit)
Bluetooth: Toshiba Bluetooth V4.0 (High Speed)
LAN: 1Gbps LAN
Wireless Connectivity: Intel? 802.11 b?g?n
Connector: HDMI?USB3.0
Running windows 8 now upgraded to 8.1

since the minute I brought this notebook home a couple days ago its had driver issues and toshiba service station was nothing but a PITA it did work and nor did any of the other bloated software that came with it.. later when upgrading to 8.1 hoping that would fix a few probs, it made my driver situation worse..

anyways i have removed everything via a clean install (but left the recovery partitions etc for safe keep, and made a recover disc) anyways even after clean install i am still missing the High Definition Audio Device driver.. in device manager I get a exclamation mark next to it..

the other drivers that were missing i had downloaded their drivers from the manufacture and they all were fixed accept this driver.. i bekieve its a realtek driver, which I went to the site and their latest driver didnt help..

can anyone please help find a working driver please, im trying my best not to send it back, but if i cant get its drivers working, then the hell with it, im send it back monday mornin... Read more

Answer:Satellite L50-A00V Notebook missing compatible High Def Audio Device Driver

The notebook seems to be released for Australian market.
I did not find the Win 8.1 drivers on the Toshiba Australian driver page but only Windows 8 drivers.

However, it seems that the sound card was made by Realtek and the Realtek HD audio manager should be installed.

Try this driver which was released on Toshiba EU driver page for the similar notebook models: [Realtek Semiconductor Corporation v Windows 8.1 - 64 Bit| =2&selFamily=2&selSeries=178&selProduct=7948&selSh ortMod=null&language=13&selOS=46&selType=all&yearu pload=&monthupload=&dayupload=&useDate=null&mode=a llMachines&search=&action=search&macId=&country=al l&selectedLanguage=13&type=all&page=2&ID=88586&OSI D=46&driverLanguage=42]

Generally speaking I would recommend you to download and to install the common Windows 8.1 64bit drivers from the Toshiba EU driver page because such drivers are missing on Australian driver website.

Would recommend you to install the Intel chipset driver as well as the nVidia driver because the HD audio can be related to the nVidia graphic chip too.

When I bought this laptop (Toshiba Satellite) It came with Vista preloaded on it. I was having lots of problems with it and I installed Windows XP on my computer. Now, when I go on MSN or whatever, there isn't any icon for the webcam option there to click on. So I looked online for the driver, but I'm not entirely sure that it is the right one. My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite A200 -AH3 (Or so it says on the bottom of the laptop) and my webcam has worked when I had Vista. My current OS is Windows XP Professional. So, do I have the wrong drivers, or what's wrong? Can someone please help me? Thanks in advance

Hi I have a Toshiba Satellite L350 Laptop with Windows XP Professional. I have no idea if I am in the right category but here is my issue. I can not activate any of my function keys. This is very problematic because the function key turns on the switch for the laptops WIFI, I can not connect to the internet through WIFI without it. According to the Toshiba forums it is a driver issue related to the TVAP (Toshiba Value Added Package). I have tried downloading the drivers from Toshiba's sight but none seem to open correctly. I think I need to delete the TVAP currently on my laptop but have no idea how to do this. Again my guesses above are summations from 4 hours of reading forums from other sights. I honestly have no idea what is wrong and inherited this laptop from a family member 2 days ago, in an attempt to allow me to work from home to help me with meeting a deadline for work. Anyone familiar with this issue your help would be greatly appreciated.

I just got a Satellite P50-A-144 with Windows 8.1.

The Keyboard has the typical F-Keys with Specialfunctions (Mute, Volume, WiFi,...). After unpacking and starting the Notebook all Function-Keys (F1-F12) worked. After installing the latest Drivers f?r Hard- and Software from the Toshiba-Site the Function-Keys don't work anymore. Only the Volume up and down Function still works, while pressing the FN-Key (normally it works without pressing the FN-Key).

I checked the Toshiba System Settings and the Keyboard-Settings didn't change. They are still set to "Specialfunctions" (so I normally don't have to press the FN-Button). Reinstalling several Drivers and installing the "Value added package" (Windows 7) didn't help. I don't know what to do and hope you can help me. The Functions are practical and it would be annoying, if they don't work anymore.

Please excuse my English. I'm from Germany and don't write in english very often.
Thank you

To be hones I don't understand why you have installed anything if your notebook was delivered with preinstalled 8.1 OS version and everything worked properly. Don't change anything if there is no reason for that.

My advice for you is: create recovery media and after doing this install original OS version again. You can do this using this created disc or HDD recovery option.

Despite the fact that it had worked quite fine up until now. Have I toggled some sort of FN-lock? The computer is less than a week old.  Thanks.

I just purchased a G505s laptop, and I now realize that the function keys (F1-F12) operate as Lenovo hotkeys by default, and I need to press th "Fn" key along with them in order to get them to function in their original mode. This is not acceptable for my normal usage. I know with other Lenovo laptops, there is a BIOS setting that allows the user to either "disable" hotkey mode, or set them to "legacy" mode, but in the current BIOS/UEFI for the G505s there is no option to do so. Can someone at Lenovo tell me whether there are plans to release a new BIOS/UEFI for the G505s with this option implemented or if there is some Lenovo software I can download that will allow me to switch the Function/Hotkey behavior? Thanks in advance.

Bumping. This seems to be a problem for a number of customers with a variety of new Lenovo laptops. I would like a response from Lenovo regarding a potential date for a BIOS update that adds the ability to revert the default behavior for the function keys to their original (non-hotkey) behavior.

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !
I'm not an owner of your model, but with some Lenovo laptops Hot Key functionality is added by installing the Lenovo Utility application.  For your model there isn't a Windows 10 version of Lenovo Utility available, but you may wish to try installing the Windows 8.1 version.  If it doesn't install then try re-installing again using Windows Compatibility Mode.  Here is a link to the Windows 8.1 driver....

Sorry for my bad English.
I have a problem with my notebook Satellite 300-133

I installed Windows 7. Then installed all driver what I found. I didn't found out Hotkey utilites for Windows 7 and I have to install driver for windowsXP in compability mode. But here is appers a bug. When Windows 7 start all right, but few moment later all LED (sernor panel on the top and indicators on the bottoms of notebooks) start light as crazy.

I think that is driver problems. I cann't find out driver for Windows 7 :(

What should I do?

Best regards Sergei.

Answer:Satellite P300-133 - Hotkey utilites for Windows 7

Hi wer32,

For Windows 7 there is no Hotkey Utility anymore as on Windows 7. All Toshiba tools integrated in ?Toshiba Value Added Package? that should be available for your P300: => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers

So in your case you should remove the Toshiba utilites for XP. Then install Value Added Package from the Toshiba website.

Check this!!!

The function key does not work since I have updated to Windows 10. It only works to increase or decrease the volume (Fn+ 3/4).

I have tried to download the latest flash card, but it is currently up to date. I also restarted the flash card and nothing happened. Furthermore, I uninstalled the keyboard and re-installed it.

Does anyone have a solution for this issue or is experiencing the same problem? Need my function key to change resolution settings when connecting my laptop to my tv.

I've recently bought Satellite L40-17R (PSL4CE) without OS preinstalled. I've installed Windows XP Home Edition SP 2.

Then I have installed all drivers I have found for this model on Toshiba driver site. I've even upgraded BIOS.
After that all Fn hotkeys works fine *except those responsible for volume control (Fn + Up/Down Arrow, Esc)*.
I have searched the forum for solution of this problem and found this topic
but I am unable to install +ATK Hotkey Utility+ and +ATK Hotkey Driver+ since I cannot find *Driver Package* at Toshiba driver site:
as if it was removed.

I also studied instructions from
Driver Package is also mentioned there on page 7, 8, 9 but it does not appear in a +Driver type+ listbox as described.

Also when I don't specify "Driver type" field in the search form there is no any Driver Package in search result.

Can anybody tell me where to find Driver Package, ATK Hotkey Utility or ATK Hotkey Driver for Satellite L40+ Win XP?
Am I missing something? Is my Toshiba drivers link not up to date? Is there any other solution to make sound hotkeys work?

Hey there,

My Satellite P100 has the usual six media buttons and all but play work correctly.

I was wondering if there is any way to stop the play button opening the utterly pointless Windows Media Center as unless this program is open, the key will not do what is suppose to do.

It is like hotkey.exe is telling the key to open the media center when pressed if it is not already open. If anyone knows how to fix this dumb problem and make the key work properly again, I would be very happy if they could let me know.

Answer:Satellite P100 Windows MCE hotkey.exe/Media hotkeys

Hi Wolfy

I can not imagine that this problem exist from the first day because notebook with ?factory settings? is preinstalled and configured properly. Because of that I believe you have done ?something wrong? and now you have this problem.

For buttons functionality is responsible one of Toshiba designed tools. I really do not know exactly which one is responsible for that but you can try to reinstall TOSHIBA Hotkey Utility V1.8.3.2, TOSHIBA Controls V1.8.3.2 and also TOSHIBA Utilities V1.8.3.2.

I believe TOSHIBA Controls should be responsible for this but I am not 100% sure.

They will stay active, don?t worry. This is just like little shortcut, maybe you can try it with disabling the startup of the program.

Hello, I've been having this problem for quite some time now and I need to get to the bottom of this. Take the caps lock button. when I press it, nothing pops up on screen telling me that it's on.  Same with all of the other functions (volume, brightness,...) nothing pops up. FN+F6 doesn't even open up my communications utility. Now, I have reinstalled the Hotkey Features Integration drivers  about 10 times and yes it does solve the problem, but after I reboot, sometimes the problem comes back! This doesn't only happen with this driver, it also happens with the camera driver, and the power manager utility. What can i do? Thanks.

I have a new Toshiba Tecra A7. For some reason, Toshiba doesn't preload some utilities, including their Hotkey Utilities (you press the Fn key and mute, dim, brighten, etc. by pressing different F keys). So Toshiba sends the app for you to install separately.
Something is blocking the install of the Hotkey Utilities (HU) on my machine. I load the app. No errors during installation. But no success.
I've downloaded the app from Toshiba's web site and I've run that in case the app they sent me is corrupted. That doesn't work either.
Toshiba tech support thinks there's another program I have running/installed that's blocking the installation of HU. Of course, they have no guesses what it might be so they recommend running a recovery disk which would zero out all the development I've done. Big help.
I've done an internet search for this problem and found other frustrated users with different Toshiba machines. Here's one saga

No solutions found so far. Any ideas?

I hope I'm posting in the right forum. Anyway, I have a toshiba satellite laptop C650D running windows 7. As of yesterday the blasted brightness control does not work.

As you know you have to press fn and F6 or F7 for the brightness to go up or down. I press FN then press either F6 or F7 and the brightness doesn't do anything. Doesn't go darker or brighter. Nada. I don't even know what number it has gotten itself stuck on, as the brightness seems like maybe a 6 or 7. For some reason my daughter likes her screen really dark at a number 2..yeesh..I don't know how she can see the screen. So now we have a problem.

Thanks for any help.

It seems that your Norton Software had damaged or deleted a related file of the Thotkey utility. Did you check the Safe mode and reinstall the THotkey utility?

I noticed that alot of people are experiencing this problem and I've decided to help.

Well I'm not sure if this would work for you but it sure worked for me. I currently use Toshiba Notebook of the F20 series.

I had the same problem and I managed to fix it successfully. Here's what I've done:

I uninstalled the Toshiba Hotkey Utility and Toshiba Utilities.
After rebooting the computer I clicked on Toshiba Assist icon on the desktop.

Next I clicked on the Protect and Fix tab and then Preinstalled Drivers Depository.

A screen appears displaying tools and utilties. Just click on it and you should have a list of the preinstalled files on the left.

I suggest that you click on the Common Modules first and install that before installing other Toshiba components.
Afterwards install Toshiba Utilties and Toshiba Hotkey for Display Devices.

This should hopefully help.

My apologies if this doesn't work out.

Just installed XP on my brother's Toshiba Satellite L305-S5919 and got all the drivers installed except the hotkey driver. Every time the setup starts I get an error saying "TOSHIBA Common Module not found! This setup will terminate."I've looked for another driver for them but can't seem to find any driver other than the one on the Toshiba website. If anyone could find a solution to this I'd appreciate it. I made sure I typed in the right model number every time.

I bought this laptop used with Vista on it and the LCD brightness control wont work. The Brihtness is set at default level which is tolerable but non the less i cannot adjust it brighter or less. I reinstalled Vista and installed XP media center edition and still cannot get the brightness to adjust. I have installed all of the toshiba drivers for this notebook including the recent ACPI bios and hotkey application. I am currently on XP MCE.
If anyone has any ideas to what could be wrong i would glady appreciate it. I have been at this for a few days now and no answers not even from the Toshiba site.

Answer:Brightness Control Hotkey No Working On Toshiba P105

I assume this is the "push the Fn button and another key" thingie? If so, check to ensure that the Fn key works by pressing it and one of the other functions to see if that works.

Then test the key that you use to adjust brightness - without using the Fn key. Does that key also perform it's designated function?

This'll let you determine if it's an error with the keyboard.

> I've reinstall fron the original fab the whole disk and the 2 drivers as a response on the forum but nothing clearly works!
What is original fab?
What have you installed exactly? Have you used the original Toshiba recovery disk?

Well, I think if a single key doesn?t work there is not much what you can do expect exchanging the keyboard because single keys are not replaceable.

What you can try is testing the situation with an external keyboard. Can you use the Windows key properly?
If yes the internal keyboard is malfunctioning and should be replaced from an authorized service provider they can order original Toshiba spare parts.

In a Windows 7 environment, is there a way that I can store into a function or hotkey of sorts, a string of text that I type repeatedly so that I don't have to keep typing it? I have probably a half dozen or so of these sentences that, if this is possible, could really save me some time, since my typing skills aren't my greatest asset. These would be used in outgoing emails from Lotus Notes.

Answer:Is there a way to store text strings in a function or "hotkey?"

i have with the function keys is

1. when i install the function key driver the airplane mode on/off works ok but the red indicator led light doesn't turn on/off.

2. if i remove the function key driver the red indicator led light works but fn+f8 doesn't turn although the wifi turns on/off windows doesn't recognize off as airplane mode. but the WiFi is always on after restart, wake from sleep or booting regardless of the status before shutdown or sleep so if it was shut down when wifi was off on starting next time the wifi will be on with indicator led off and sometimes it turn WiFi on automatically after few minutes even if turn it off

i have a dual boot windows 7 so in case of the first the indicator doesn't work in windows 7 as well and in case of the second it works fine. so is there a way to fix this?

I have just installed Windows 8.1 Professional 64-bit, got the ISO from Microsoft MSDN Academic.

I also downloaded Toshiba Upgrade Assistant from the Support Page and it has installed almost everything, drivers and software from Toshiba (for my Satellite R830-16K).

But some function Keys does not work. Fn + F6 or F7 (brightness) simply does not work. Other function Keys appears to be working as normal. I have uninstalled and re-installed "Toshiba Value Added Package" and "Toshiba Function Key". Also, the Function Key program doesn't allow to configure the brightness keys (F6/F7).

Any ideas? Anybody could help me, please?

Thank you!

Answer:Satellite R830-16K - Function Keys (Fn) on Windows 8.1

The Toshiba EU driver page provides the Win 8 upgrade package.
It?s for Win 8 and NOT for Win 8.1
Therefore some tools and utilities could not work properly.

But listen: If you are using Win 8 (not quite sure about Win 8.1) very important is the installation of Toshiba System Driver.
Such Toshiba System driver can be found on Toshiba driver page too.

By the way: ensure that display driver is installed

On my Toshiba Satellite P10-221, running WinXP, I used to be able to use Fn F5 to switch to my external display. Recently pressing Fn F5 brings up the same menu as always, but the only option is the LCD display. I used to have CRT and TV as options. Is anyone familiar with this problem? I already tried to install the Display Driver (Nvidia), but this did not solve the problem.

Thanks in advance!

First of all try to upgarde the BIOS of your system but read carefuly the steps the update the BIOS.
But most probably your mainboard must be replaced . The SP10-221 is covered of 3 years warranty so the best thing to do is to go to your near toshiba service provider .
Hope that the BIOS will resolve your problem .

You need to install the Flash Card support utility additionally to the VAP!!!
The Flash Card support Utility can be found in Satellite L500 driver area for example.
After installation if Flash Card support Utility reboot the unit once again and then check the functionality.

The Toshiba image placed on the Recovery CD contains all drivers, tools and utilities which are needed to use all notebook features!!
After the OS installation from Recovery CD you don?t need to install any drivers!

Can anyone help please?

My keyboard has had problems in the past and it was sent to Germany for repairs.
It came back but after a short while, the keyboard problem has re-appeared.
When typing to access webpages etc loads of programs are opened as if , I think it's called, a macro program has assigned hotkeys.

I have used on-screen keyboard to overcome this but that's inaccessible now.
Has anyone come across this problem before?
Is there a program to get rid of these hotkeys problem?

Thanks in anticipation.

Answer:Hotkey issue on Satellite C855D-13N

> When typing to access webpages etc loads of programs are opened as if , I think it's called, a macro program has assigned hotkeys.

What key(s) did you press exactly?

You can control different notebook features pressing different F (F1-F10) keys (also in connection with FN key): for example you can enable or disable the touchpad or you can change the display brightness.
Do you mean these keys?

At the other hand windows OS supports a feature called ?Ease of Access center?.
Within the ?Ease of Access Center? you can adjust these settings to "Make the keyboard easier to use"

Navigate to Control Panel and click on Ease of Access center, and find the link for ?Make the keyboard easier to use?. Once you are there, you?ll want to make sure the boxes for ?Turn on Sticky Keys? or ?Turn on Filter Keys? are turned off?which simply means the feature isn?t active at the moment.

Also you?ll have to click on either ?Set up Filter Keys? or ?Set up Sticky Keys? (or both). Disable Filter Keys Popup. If you went to the Filter Keys setup screen, remove the checkbox from ?Turn on Filter Keys when right SHIFT is pressed for 8 seconds?. To disable Sticky Keys Popup, uncheck the box for ?Turn on Sticky Keys when SHIFT is pressed five times?.

Recommend you to check this Microsoft article regarding this feature:

This unit seems to be a US notebook which was designed for a US market. Therefore I think you should download the drivers from the Toshiba US site.

Well, furthermore if you install the Toshiba drivers manually, so it?s very important that you do that in the right order.
1. Chipset utility at the beginning
2. common modules (if available)
3. graphic card driver
4. etc.

But why don?t you use the Toshiba recovery CD?
All drivers are preinstalled on this CD and everything should works properly.

I cannot get the wireless hotkey (Fn+F8) working on Satellite Pro U200. It worked before, but after I reinstalled the system and the drivers, it does not work any more. All other Fn+FX combinations work fine.

If the wirelles switch (on the right side of the notebook) is turned off and Fn+F8 is pressed, the system displays the following message: "Wireless communication is disabled. Please turn on the wireless communication switch." If the wireless switch is turned on and Fn+F8 is pressed, nothing happens (while before I was able to turn bluetooth and wireless card on and off).

I am not sure but I suspect that the hotkey stopped working after BIOS upgrade from version 1.2 to version 1.3, but I cannot confirm it as I cannot downgrade the BIOS and I reinstalled the system shortly after the BIOS upgrade. Do you please have any ideas?

It worked before because you have used preinstalled recovery image that contains all necessary tools and utilities. On this way you will have perfect configured unit.

For mi is logic to install hotkey utility at first.

Answer:Toshiba satellite P300 (-1CD) won't boot past toshiba splash screen.

Perform the following steps:
-Remove the battery and Power adapter
-Press and hold the power button for 30-45 seconds (with battery and power still removed)
-Insert just the battery and attempt to boot the laptop.
-Insert just the power adapter and attempt to boot the laptop.

If still unsuccessful: Remember to remove battery and power before removing/installing components

-Remove the power and battery
-Remove the hard drive from the laptop and attempt to boot with the battery installed. Do you receive any error message?
-Remove the memory modules from the laptop
-Insert just the battery and attempt to start the laptop (you should receive beep error)
-Try inserting just one module of memory and test (swapping modules after each attempt)
-Remove the optical drive and test.
-Try disconnecting the CMOS battery for a few minutes then re-connect and try.

My laptop cannot tell me any post after the Toshiba logo just black screen. Cannot get into the bios or anything... These are the things I have tried:
Taken hard drive out,
Taken ram out and only tried one..
Taken Battery Cmos battery out for a few minutes..
Had a look at the motherboard and fan is not even working when I turn it on..
I have taken the cpu and put it back in..
Defiantly Sounds like the motherboard problem but want to know if its just a chip that needs to be replaced and soldered.. If anyone has any ideas that will be awesome.

when using the above card, and TRENDnet TEW-311BRP WireLess Broadband Router, I cannot get a stable connection.

It always connect and disconnect me.

I use this machine and card all over the world: airports, hotels, offices and it works great.

I asked the dealer to replace the 311. Same problem.

However, if I stick TRENDnet PCMCIA card and disable the Toshiba Wireless LAN Mini PCI Card, I connect w/o disconnections.

any idea?

I think we picked up a bug. My son was on and a pop up came up about a Java something and he clicked yes. The Windows defender freaked out saying we had a trojan virus. Then it crashed and burned. Now all it does is run the restart repair program which says it can not fix the problem. Anything I can do to get this running. It's my daughter's laptop and I would like to get it running. Any help would be hugely appreciated.

It is a Toshiba Satellite with Windows 7. I've tried the restart in safe mode and it did not help. Neither did the "last known good configuration" option.

I does this as it is trying to start windows and it the laptop did not come with a recovery disk.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite Windows 7 will not start

Download and burn to CD BitDefender bootable AV scan, boot to run a Full Scan: FREE Bootable AntiVirus Rescue CDs Download List. See if you are then able to boot into Win7 or Safe Mode with Networking to install and run a full scan with Malwarebytes

Next boot into System Recovery Options, accept any offered Repair. If Windows 7 doesn't start boot back in to run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times with reboots. If repairs won't work from F8 Advanced Boot Options Repair console use WIn7 DVD Repair console or System Repair Disc - Create which don't depend on System files to run.

If this fails, boot back into DVD/REpair CD System Recovery Options to try System Restore, and SFC -SCANNOW Run in Command Prompt at Boot

If all fails you can attempt to copy out your files using DVD/Repair CD: Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console

Then either run Factory Recovery if an OEM, Recovery Disks, or use a Windows 7 DVD to clean reinstall. Toshiba Recovery

press the power on, the initial screen comes on for a few seconds then the screen goes blank except for a large, blurry cursor in the top left corner. Any suggestions?

Answer:toshiba satellite won't load windows 7

Tap the F8 key, when you first power up the unit, to bring up windows advanced startup options and select "safe mode". That's a start, if the computer does not allow you to bring up any screen options you may have hardware problem like failing hard drive, but start with seeing if you can get it to boot into safe mode. Has anything been added or changed on the computer?
