Satellite A350-13A Windows 7 64bit Function Keys not working

Question: Satellite A350-13A Windows 7 64bit Function Keys not working

I have upgraded my new laptop from Vista to Win7 64 bit, however the function keys do not work and the function keys that display at the top when you press FN does not show anymore. I have installed Utilities and Value Added Package but no success. Any help is apperciated.

Note To Toshiba Team:
Why don't you package all necessary drivers and software in one package after testing them, based on computer model for example in my case Satellite A350-13A, you could make one package for Win7x64 another for Win7x32, etc, instead of leaving us spending days to figure out what to install and where to find it and if it will work or not. Awaiting your feedback.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Some models need the Flash Card Support driver. Have you installed that? (install the Win7 version, not the Vista version)

You need to install the Flash Card support utility additionally to the VAP!!!
The Flash Card support Utility can be found in Satellite L500 driver area for example.
After installation if Flash Card support Utility reboot the unit once again and then check the functionality.

I have Satellite A350-13A. I installed Windows 7 from 2 weeks.

The function keys isn't working although I installed the Toshiba value added package which is responsible for activating function keys.

What the solution for this problem?

>The function keys isn't working although i installed the toshiba value added package which is responsible for activating function keys

Beside the VAP (value added package) you have to install the Flash Card support Utility!
Flash Card support Utility controls the FN buttons and not the VAP! But VAP is needed too!

I made a clean install of Win 7 x64 and already applied most of the drivers, including the BIOS and Value Added Package, but still can't get access to the function keys. Has anyone managed to fix this?

My computer is the Satellite A350-22E, part number PSAL6E-06Y019EP

Thanks for the assist

You should check for flash card support utility. If it's not available for Win7, try Vista's one or from other models.

I have a Satellite A350 PSAL6A-04W16 which I have upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7. I have installed the Toshiba Value Added Package for Windows 7 and while this fixed the touch keys for Speaker Mute and Media Player control the FN keys still do not work.

I have read in another forum that TFNKY.exe and HKServe.exe must be running however these programs do not seem to exist on my PC.

Is there a fix for this?

Answer:Satellite A350 - FN keys not working after Windows 7 installation

The point is that you have to install Flash Cards Support utility too and Value Added Package is not enough. As you can see in many other threads, FN keys start working after installation of Flash Cards Support Utility.

So have a look on Toshiba website again to download this tool.

Please send some feedback after installation. :)

Sorry for my bad english, i am forum Portugal and i don't are very good at english.

1 I installed Windows 7 on my pc, installed the drivers 7 and FN was to give. However I had another problem and had to format the pc again, now install everything again and functionality not the FN.

2 Without the drive functionality that is FN + F6/F7 brightness works. But with the drive not installed anything. It seems they are in conflict.

3 The bar at the top of the screen that appeared no longer appears. But if I go to Start -> All Programs -> TOSHIBA -> Utilities -> Settings for TOSHIBA E-cards. With it open, squeeze "Allow the mouse to show the cards" and they appear at the top, as hidden. But just gives me no way, I wish to give to the FN.

Anyone know how this is resolved?? It gave me immense way and even have tried everything, installed everything, there is nothing to block the FN key? A feature that blocks this key?? Please help me.

My PC as it says in the title is Toshiba Sattelite A350D 10Y PSALME....

Reinstalled Win 7 prof. again, installed all necessary drivers for graphic, sound, touchpad, etc, plus latest Value Added Package for my model, and shortcuts (pressin FN on keyboard + F1-F12) does not work. But when i point mouse to up of my screen and i click those buttons by mouse - they work.

But it's irritating to minimize game or movie to change brightness of screen, or when batteries from my bluetooth mouse are gone - i can not turn on touch pad with FN+F9 shortcut.
Tried also (before format) using Flash Card and some other stuff which was working on Vista 64, but they do not work on Win 7 64.

Any solution yet for that? Seen couple topics about that but now they are gone, or i'm blind?
I'll be very happy if i could use those at last.

I recently formatted the hard disk and installed Vista home premium again because it was running slow. Before formatting I had disabled the touch pad from using becasue I found it very uncomfortable to use. Therefore instead of that I was using an optical mouse. Once I installed Vista the touch pad was not working and the Fn key was not responding to F1,F2-F9.. The strange thing is when I press the Fn key the light goes on and indicates its working and when I press Fn+F10, the num lock gets on and when I press Fn+F11 it goes to normal qwerty keyborad.

I have downloaded all the drivers for the laptop including the touch pad driver from TOSHIBA offical webpage and tried every known trick in the book but still truggling to get this Function key panel working? Your help is highly appreciated.

My laptop is still under warranty but I am scared to send it over becasue they would go like you hav formatted the hard disk even I hav installed the same OS that I already had.

Thats the main reason to post this. Hear me out plz

Answer:Satellite A350-20S - Can't get FN keys working

Hi buddy,

I doubt that you have downloaded everything from the Toshiba website, otherwise your FN keys would work properly! ;)

Anyway, for the FN keys you have to install ?Toshiba Value Added Package?. With this package it?s also possible to enable/disable the touchpad. It brings all FN keys to work. > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

Just download the version that you need and that?s it!

1) i am asking for your help about installing my Fn keys drivers for my Satellite A200 14 D PSAECE laptop.
My OS is Windows XP and i have Bitdefender Internet Security 2009 .
From the download page of Toshiba drivers i got all drivers for my laptop (36 of all - or close), but from the many Xp reinstalations i have done on my laptop, only one time all Fn keys worked when pressing Fn+key and the corresponding icons appeared on my display. I have read some forum topics and i understand there is a problem about the order in which i have to install them ( i already installed them all but it is not working ), so i need someone to tell me which are the drivers for Fn keys only and in which order to install. Please do not forget that i can deactivate my Bitdefender but not uninstall .

2) the same problem with the preset buttons above the keys - On-Off, Internet, Media Player, Play-Stop-Rewind, i need the exact driver and the order.

Thank you for your time :)
Sorry if this question is already answer in the forum somewhere, but i could not get this exact answer.

Answer:Satellite A200-14D PSAECE - Fn keys not working & other function keys

I remember that the BIOS should be updated to the Win XP version on Satellite A200 series.
There are two different BIOS versions and depending on the installed (Vista or Win XP) the right version should be used.

But there are many FN buttons which needs additional installation of different tools.
For example the Touch Pad On/Off Utility should be installed to use the FN+F9 buttons.

Furthermore you should install the Controls Driver and Controls 3.22.2701 in order to get the Toshiba Control buttons functionality.

I updated the BIOS via ACPI Flash BIOS version 2.20 to latest BIOS, installed all hardware drivers from Toshiba Support page and installed the Toshiba Value Added Package (TVAP) for Windows 7/Vista (64) v1.2.27_64 and nothing.
I uninstalled TVAP and installed it again and nothing. I even tried with Utility Support Driver and Registry Patch for Devices And Printers and nothing again.
I even tried "Restart flash card" solution with no result.

Can somebody help me plz? I am desperate about this problem because I use Fn keys a lot?

Answer:Re: Satellite A350-ST3601 - Fn keys don't work on Windows 7

After Value Added Package installation you have also to install ?Flash Cards Support Utility?. Please search on the Toshiba page for this tool.
You can also search for other notebook models but it must be released for Windows 7, as far as I know the old version for Vista will not work.

Check this!!!

Hi Dang

Every new notebook with preinstalled original recovery image (operating system) has preinstalled right drivers, tools and utilities so I?m really wondering you cannot use function keys.
Have you noticed some problem with certain keys or with al F keys?

You can try to fix it installing Toshiba system driver and Toshiba function key utility but my opinion is that you should, if possible, reinstall OS using HDD recovery option. After doing this notebook will have ?factory settings? again and everything should be OK again.

Recently I bought a new U400-13J this is without OS.

Therefore I myself installed WinXP SP3 and all the drivers downloaded from Toshiba support page. The machine operates well, but some of the function keys, namely Fn+F1, F2, F3, F4, and Toshiba Zoom do not operate. All others are OK.

What can be the reason?

Answer:Re: Function keys not working on Satellite U400

To install drivers this is not enough. For some functions you must install the Toshiba tools from the Toshiba website.
Install the Hotkey Utilities and the Toshiba utilities.

Maybe you should also update the BIOS. You can find it on the Toshiba website: => Support & Downloads => Download drivers

I have got a Toshiba laptop A300 and the function keys aren't working.
I'm sure its probably a simple problem to fix but I can't seem to find anything about it in the user manual.
The laptop works fine accept for this but this is a problem as we need these buttons to connect it to the projector.

Could anyone help???

Answer:Function keys not working on Satellite A300

Hmm? everything depends on the operating system which is preinstalled on your notebook.

If you use the Vista OS then you should firstly check if the Toshiba FlashCards are enabled. This tool is connected with the FN + F1-F9 button functionality.

If the Flashcards are already enabled then you should try to reinstall the Toshiba Vista Value added package.

Satellite P70-B-11P

My special function keys regularly stop working. For example, I often press the 2nd and 3rd function buttons to adjust the brightness of the display and nothing happens. In order to restore function, I need to open Toshiba System Settings/Function Key. I do not need to do anything further, not even the Apply or OK buttons. When I then close System Settings the special function keys work correctly again.

Whilst this work-around corrects things temporarily, I feel that I should not need to go through this procedure every time I use the computer. Does anyone know of a permanent solution, please?

Answer:Satellite P70-B-11P - Special function keys stop working

It has occurred to me that this problem may have arisen because something in the 'start up' list has been disabled. If so, I can easily enable it, but I'm afraid I have no idea what to look for.
I'd be grateful for any advice.

Hello, Good morning/ evening ...
I'm using ( Satellite U920T) and recently upgraded my tablet to Windows 10
but after that, the function keys, volume, brightness, FN key, and even the backlight doesn't work anymore !!

I have tried to recover the system and to update driver's software but nothing worked ..

I use these keys all the time and now it's really hard without them !!

What's the problem? what should I do?

Answer:Satellite U920T - Function keys not working after update to Win 10

The problem is that Satellite U920T isn’t listed as Win 10 supported unit and therefore the Win 10 Toshiba drivers and software which controls the FN keys isn’t released.
But as far as I know to use the FN keys, the Toshiba System driver as well as Flash Card Support Utility must be installed.

For all Toshiba Win 10 supported units, the drivers can be downloaded from this page:

Maybe you could try the drivers released for other Win 10 supported notebook models…
I’m not quite sure if the software will be fully compatible with your U920T model but its definitely worth a try…

I've recently had to reset my laptop which, in so doing, removed the original Toshiba software and drivers that was packaged with the laptop.

The majority of the original software and drivers have been re-installed from the Drivers download page.
My main issue is with the Function Keys where some Fn combinations are not working, in particular the Mute/Unmute, and the Wifi toggle buttons.
These are the only two that seem to be non-functional.

Am I missing something, downloading the wrong thing? What's the fix?

Hi everyone,

I have a problem with my Satellite P750-10T (PSAY3E-02000KGR, Windows 7 64 Bits, German Language Edition).

The top line 'Function Keys', naming Eco Mode button, WLAN button, Program Start button, Play/Pause button, Mute button and Volume -/+ buttons stopped working a week ago. They light up correctly when starting the corresponding modes (e.g. Eco Mode lights up in green when the Eco Utility is switched to Eco mode by Mouse) or when turning on keyboard back light, but they do not react on finger touches.
As a result I am unable to use WLAN because I cannot turn on the Notebook's WLAN function.

I already reinstalled Toshiba Flash Cards and Value Added Package programs without success.

Do you have any suggestions to solve the issue? Thank you very much.

I have tried to install Hotkeys off the Toshiba web site with no success. It will not load on the computer for me.
I have also reinstalled 'utilities' and in doing this the touch pad mouse stopped working.

Is anyone able to suggest to me what I need to do to fix this?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Answer:Satellite P100 PSPA3A - Touchpad and Function keys not working

I've never heard of deleting a keyboard driver, but if some of your buttons work then i think software is fine. It might be a loose keyboard connector coming loose which sits underneath your keyboard around the "ghj" buttons.

I would return the laptop to the place of purchase and get them to fix it. Less grief for you and an easy fix. Keep it simple everyone!

I have a Satellite Pro A120 PSAC1E-04Q00VEN.

A couple of weeks ago I started getting a "TouchED error" dialogue box coming up on startup (containing the message: Retrieval of "Thotkey" failed Error code 0X00031402, 0X00000002) and at the same time the function keys failed to work.

I have spent several hours following up on the wide variety of questions that have been posted on this forum and elsewhere regarding this problem with Toshiba laptops but nothing has worked. I have reinstalled all the drivers from my original backup disk, installed new drivers from the Toshiba website, upgraded the bios, and restored the system to dates before the problem started to occur. I also cannot locate Thotkey.exe anywhere on my machine.

Can anybody help with this? it seems to be a common problem for which there doesn't appear to be a definitive answer. Any useful replies would be really appreciated.

Answer:Satellite Pro A120 - Function keys not working and TouchED error

The thotkey.exe is stored in C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\TOSHIBA Applet and it necessary for the FN keys and so they don?t work anymore.

Normally all should work properly after you have reinstalled the application. So maybe you should try it again and before the new version will be installed run CCleaner to clean the registry.

Furthermore if you disable the application on startup (run > msconfig > startup) the error shouldn?t appear anymore but this isn?t really a solution because the FN keys will not work I think?

For the special buttons you need the following Toshiba tools:
TOSHIBA Hotkey Utility
TOSHIBA Utilities

Furthermore I would also recommend installing TOSHIBA Power Saver. It?s really nice tool to save energy and optimize the battery time. Furthermore you can create different power profiles.

I purchased a Satellite A350 from Tiger Direct. It came installed with Windows Vista 32 bit.
It is capable up to I think 8 gigs of Ram. Vista 32 bit only supports 3.

All the reviews of this laptop on line say it came with 64 bit and 400 gigs of memory.
Mine only came with 230 gigs of memory and 32 bit vista. I ran Belarc advisor and it tells me my computer is 64 bit ready.

Is this true? Why didn't mine come with 64 bit Vista?
I want to upgrade my ram but with 32 bit that is not possible, and according to Microsoft you can't update 32 bit to 64 bit.
So do I have to purchase 64 bit Vista to upgrade?(for around 300 dollars!). Is there anyway around this?

What are my options? I want to upgrade to 4 gigs or more of Ram really badly...

Answer:Satellite A350 - Question about RAM and Vista 32bit - 64bit

What Satellite A350 do you have exactly?

As far as I know the newer Toshiba notebook series has preinstalled a dual OS;
In such case you can choose between Vista 32bit or 64bit.

To get the 64bit you will have to reboot the notebook and will have to press F8.
Here you have to choose option ?Repair My Computer?. Then choose Toshiba HDD recovery and finally you should see the option which would allows you to switch between the 32bit and 64bit.

Usually the Vista 32bit support 3.2GB RAMS.
Only the Vista 64bit will be able to recognize 4GB and more.

Have you upgraded preinstalled Vista or you have made clean Win7 installation?

Last week I?ve installed clean Win7 on my Satellite A300 (similar to your 350) and everything works well and I can use flashcards with FN+ESC- F9 key combination.
>If I uninstall value added package FN work...
I don't believe this. For well working FN VAP must be preinstalled. So download VAP version 1.2.28 for your notebook model and restart it when installation is finished.
The go to START > ALL Programs > Toshiba > Utilities > Restart Flash Cards.

Try to use them again. It must work.

I have a Toshiba A350-10z with windows 7 64x. When I had a Vista everything was all right- all light keys works correctly.
Now keys have different functions- the "silence" key runs my player for example. And there is another problem- my "FN" key doesn't work.

When I use it- OS shows an error and ask me to close application. I can run these shortcuts only by mouse. Is there any driver for this?
I can't find any on the download site.

Answer:Strange issue with light keys on Satellite A350- 10z

Please install Value Added Package for your notebook model.

If you have it already remove it from the system and after notebook restart install it again.

I can't figure out what is wrong: I'm trying to install the latest bios, bios-20090803144625 (64bit), on a Statellite 350 running Windows 7 RC. I get the following error from "Phoenig WinPhlash64": "Failed to receive system Bios information BCPSYS block signature was not found. Error code: -100"
I have also tried the 32bit installer without any luck.

I have tried to install in safe mode, but the installer will only run in "normal mode".

Any suggestions?

I have just installed Windows 8.1 Professional 64-bit, got the ISO from Microsoft MSDN Academic.

I also downloaded Toshiba Upgrade Assistant from the Support Page and it has installed almost everything, drivers and software from Toshiba (for my Satellite R830-16K).

But some function Keys does not work. Fn + F6 or F7 (brightness) simply does not work. Other function Keys appears to be working as normal. I have uninstalled and re-installed "Toshiba Value Added Package" and "Toshiba Function Key". Also, the Function Key program doesn't allow to configure the brightness keys (F6/F7).

Any ideas? Anybody could help me, please?

Thank you!

Answer:Satellite R830-16K - Function Keys (Fn) on Windows 8.1

The Toshiba EU driver page provides the Win 8 upgrade package.
It?s for Win 8 and NOT for Win 8.1
Therefore some tools and utilities could not work properly.

But listen: If you are using Win 8 (not quite sure about Win 8.1) very important is the installation of Toshiba System Driver.
Such Toshiba System driver can be found on Toshiba driver page too.

By the way: ensure that display driver is installed

Hi there, I am using a Lenovo N200 (0769). I installed Windows 7 Professional, 32 bit. I installed all important Windows updates first (not the optional drivers of which some are for the N200 hardware). Then I installed Lenovo System Update 4 (I wasn't aware that it is meant to be used only for ThinkPads). This System Update application, in the end, didn't install anything except the System Interface Driver. Then I installed almost all of these optional drivers from the Windows 7 Update functionality, so that I can fully use my graphics card, etc. I also installed Lenovo Care (the 32 bit Vista version, it does work though) However, I still have the following questions: 1) Are there any touch pad drivers you can recommend? I want to change some settings. Right now, the touchpad does work, it is being recognized as a PS/2 mouse, but I cannot set it up correctly 2) How do I get the function keys to work? Please note that the hotkey driver (6jvu34ww.exe) does N O T work. I repeat, this driver is a lie, as in bloatware, as in worthless . When starting setup, it shows me that the On Screen conponent is installed. Note that most of the function keys do work, but some don't. The ones that don't work and are actually useful are: F4 (go to standby), F5 (WiFi controls), F7 (presentation settings), F12 (hibernate). Any hints what I did wrong? Oh, the Lenovo Care button does NOT start Lenovo care either. I have to manually start Lenovo Care. Why is that ?&nb... Read more

Hi, there. Just to say I have also seen this behaviour and I have an SL400, so this doesn't seem to be an issue specific to the hardware, but to the driver.  I'm running Windows 7 x64 now, and also happened with Windows Vista x64.  Hence I'll post on ThinkVantage technologies forum. Regards

I therefore did a clean install of W10 and everything is great, with plenty of space to spare now - EXCEPT - some of the function keys don't work such as the blank screen, while outside Windows, using a boot CD, none of them work. Hi community. This is my first post here, so please bear with me. I just installed Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit on my new T530. I used the upgrader to install all drivers and most software components. However the function keys, osd and the mute button do not work. I searched the forums and found a thread explaining the dependencies. I seem to have all the required software installed. However the processes for the function keys are not running. I checked the services and tracked down the error to the ThinkPad PM service. It fails to start with Error 2: "The system cannot find the file specified". However the file in question "System32/ibmpmsvc.exe" is present in the system32 directory. This is likely related to another oddity. Solution center identified an unknown device. It's located under system devices. Status is "working properly" though. It's the ACPI\LEN0068 which I understand is the PM device. There are two driver versions in the driver matrix for the PM device. I tried both with and without prior deinstallation of the device but no luck. I unsuccessfully tried to find more detailed information in the Windows event log. Likely I don't know where to look exactly though. I'm running out of ideas. Any suggestions are highly appreciated. Thanks, Richard

Hi there I'm on the verge of returning my new U410 which, despite reviews indicating the contrary, has a very frustrating touchpad that the palm sensitivity adjustor does not fix.  In fact I don't think it adjusts the sensitivity one iota. So I've read that Fn+F6 or Fn+F8 should allow me to disable it while I'm writing, but they do nothing.  I'm working in Microsoft Word, if that matters (it shouldn't though, right?).  I'm on Win8, computer is brand new and I installed the latest touchpad driver but must say it never launched or I never saw it launch (I'm not sure it should, or if it should just be in the background).   Between that and the worst wireless problems ever, not to mention that the heavier graphics card apparently does nothing to improve video performance, I am tempted to return this.  So frustrating.  Please help if you know about the touchpad though, being able to disable it would go a long way!

Answer:Disable touchpad function keys not working Ideapad u410 Windows 8

hi bwrightd,
Regarding your concern:
1. If you have the same keyboard layout like in this picture (hotkey mode disabled in the BIOS) then you just need to press the key below to enable/disable the touchpad.
Alternatively, you can also use Touchfreeze to automatically disable the Touchpad while typing.
2. For the wireless issue, you may wanna check this thread as other users found it helpful to resolve the issue.
3. For the video performance, try the following:
    a. Set the power settings to high performance (Link to picture)
    b. Configure Nvidia Control Panel's "Power management mode" from Adaptive to Maximum Performance - see this guide
    c. Follow this guide on how to add an app to use with the Nvidia Optimus Technology.
Hope this helps

Hello members,

I have a Satellite A350-20q that runs a Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit OS. The problem is with the touch pad which stops working when the laptop is connected to the
AC power and while this is happening, I can feel the static on the buttons near the touch pad which are metallic.

The touchpad works fine when running on Battery and this is causing a lot of problem as I move around quite a bit and cannot take my mouse everywhere.

I had called up Toshiba support but all the said was to replace the charger which did not make any sense to me but I did try it out and it still does not help much.

The touch pad works fine when the Vista is installed and is not updated but after the system is totally updated it starts to cause problems and I cannot even determine which update is causing the problem as there are numerous windows vista updates that are installed.

Please Help !!
I have installed all the drivers and have the latest Synaptic driver installed on the system as of now.

Thank You.

Answer:Satellite A350-20q - Touchpad not working

> I had called up Toshiba support but all the said was to replace the charger which did not make any sense to me but I did try it out and it still does not help much.

I think this make sense since the touchpad did not work ONLY when the AC adaptor was connected.
I found this thread:
It?s about the similar issue and AC adaptor replacement helped!

> The touch pad works fine when the Vista is installed and is not updated but after the system is totally updated it starts to cause problems and I cannot even determine which update is causing the problem as there are numerous windows vista updates that are installed.

How should a windows update make the touchpad buttons statically? This makes no sense for me? so either it?s software or hardware issue?

If it?s software (OS update) issue then the AC adaptor should not has any affect on touchpad buttons? but if it?s a hardware issue then the OS updates should not affect the touchpad functionality as well?

I think it?s a strange issue and you should get in contact with an local ASP (service partner) in your country in order to check the touchpad.

About 2 months ago my laptop got wet, it was accidentally place in a puddle of water.

The keyboard wouldn't work for a day, so I wrapped it up in a towel and the next day everything went back to working normally, except the volume knob. I can only change the volume on screen.

Is there a option to turn off the knob that may have switched over?

I don't want to send it in for repairs when the only thing wrong is the volume knob?

Any ideas on a fix?

Answer:Satellite A350 - Volume knob not working

There is no option which would disable the physical volume control.
I assume the spilled water on the keyboard has caused this hardware malfunction.

As far as I know the volume control is a part of the motherboard and it?s fixed?
I?m not quite sure if it?s possible to replace only this sensor?
So in worst case the mobo must be replaced :(

PS; my volume control has not functioned properly. The volume indicator jumped on the screen and it was not possible to control the volume.
I found the solution; it was a dirt and dust inside the volume sensor. I have cleaned it using a compressed air spray without disassembling the notebook. This functioned!

My touchapad worked fine on both system 's and dedicated driver (synaptics). One day I turned it off using Fn + F9 and after that I coudln't turn it on. I used system driver then. So I installed Synaptics but it said there's no conpatible device to work with. I tried Alps - no result too. So I checked bios - Pionting Dev. is on. I did changed this option two times thinking it may help - no. Today it's about half a year since I'm forced to use usb mouse.

Yesterday I restored the system - I had whole, independent image. It was created when touchpad still worked. After restore touchpad does not work. So I decided to install fresh system - same problem. I almost thought that touchpad is broken. However, today I noticed that when I disconnect USB mouse, then betwen this action and system's sound (informing about this action) touchapad works - during about 0,5 s. It moves! But I didn't managed to turn it on.

I can't understand what's the point. I read few post on other forums. It seems that some other people have same problem. They have different notebooks but still from Toshiba. I think we need professional help. Can we get it?

Sorry for my english.
Best regards,

Answer:Satellite A350 - Touchpad stopped working

To be honest I haven?t found other similar threads so it doesn?t seem to be a common issue. Also the touchpad on my both Toshiba notebooks works perfect and never had a problem. Furthermore here it?s only an user to user forum where you can talk with normal people like you and me. If you want professional help you must get in contact with an authorized service provider.

Anyway, one point is not clear for me: You wrote about several system restores, images, etc. but what images you have used exactly?

In your case I would recommend a recovery installation from Toshiba recovery disk. The disk can restore the original factory settings (out of box) with all necessary drivers and tools. After this installation everything should work properly again.
If not it?s a hardware malfunction?

I was wondering if anyone could help me? My microphone has suddenly stopped working. I was away for two weeks and when I tried to use the mic it does not work anymore. It worked perfectly before.

When I go into Control Panel and look at the settings for the microphone it tells me its active. I have also set the volume up on the mic and checked if anything is muted. But as far as I could see everything is fine.

My Ideapad P500 function keys do things like changing volume and display brightness by default; to make them actually work as F1, F2, ... keys, I need to press Fn key. Any idea how to change that? All I could find on the web was two solutions for Thinkpads:1) BIOS option - no such option on this laptop.2) Some Slim USB wirless keyboard utlility - it doesn't change anything on this laptop. I also messed with KeyTweak and SharpKeys, but without good results. For instance, F1, F2, F3 get remapped fine; but these programs don't see F7 (which toggles flight mode).

Hello, I have recently downgraded my Toshiba Satellite Pro P200 from Vista to WindowsXP. Everything is working fine except the function (Fn) keys for controlling screen brightness, volume. Some work like mute but most do not do anything when I try to use them. All drivers installed fine the device manager shows nothing missing or errors.

I have tried installing all the drivers for the keyboard, Fn keys, hotkeys and still I cannot get them to work at all. Hello All,

The Function keys controling the screen brightness, volume etc do not seem to be working.

Is there a specific driver ( ie chipset driver pack) I should be looking at that controls these function keys or should they work with out ant intervention from driver packs etc bios related???

Thanks in advance.. C.

Answer:FN function keys don't work - Satellite M30-107

Satellite M30-107 is a part of the PSM30E series. Is it right?
You could check this number if you would look at the bottom of the unit. There should be a label with such model number.

Go to the Toshiba European driver page and search in ARCHIVE area.

Choose +Archive -> Satellite -> Satellite M series -> Satellite M30 -> Win XP+

You have to download the *Common Module*

This Common Modules must be installed at first!!!
Then you need to install additional software like Touch Pad On/Off Utility, Hotkey Utilities for Display Devices.

These programs will enable the Fn buttons

Hi, its me again :D

Anyways, I noticed that FN+ any f keys are not working. I cant lock my computer with it, I can't mute it with fn+esc, I can't set brightness with fn+f6, f7 and so on.

Any ideas what could it be? Function illuminated buttons are working perfectly :) I ve seen the thread where the button settings go berserk after you install VM workstation but I also solved that problem via your forum (thnx).

So any idea why fn+f keys not working? What should I do?

Thank you in advance!

Answer:Satellite A660 - FN keys without function

Hi Sanka_2,

Yes, there is a workaround here in forum for FN keys if you install VMware... As far as I can remember you have to change or delete some registry keys.

Anyway, FN keys are controlled by Value Added Package and Flash Cards Support Utility. In your case I would recommend the reinstallation of these tools. That means remove the old versions, restart the computer and install newest versions from official Toshiba page.

Check this!!!

So, I've posted this a couple of days ago on the "Tools & Utilities" board, but haven't gotten any answers yet, so maybe I should be more patient. But, since this board seems to be slightly more active, I thought I'd try it here as well. Who knows, maybe some people with a Satellite S have experienced the same thing!

I've looked for an answer on google and on this forum for days, but haven't been able to find anything useful (especially in combination with 'windows 10', I have no idea if installing it had any effect in this).

I installed Windows 10 last week, and I'm not sure if that's when the "problem" started, but since yesterday I've been aware of the fact that the "special function modus" of the F-keys (i.e. the function in which you don'thave to hold the funtion key to access the special functions under the (former) F-keys) doesn't work any longer.

I've already tried:
- Restarting my system
- System Settings > Keyboard > Function key modus (but that was set correctly!).
- Tried any combination of Fn with any other key possible.

So I don't know what the problem is. Could it have something to do with the installment of Windows 10?

Toshiba Satellite S50-B-14M
Preinstalled with Windows 8.1, upgraded to Windows 10 Home last Tuesday

Thanks to anyone who can help me!

Answer:Satellite S50-B-14M - Function key and F-keys switched

I solved it myself! Turned out I just needed another obvious solution: reinstall the function key utility driver. Why didn't I think of that before...

I read there are some problems with updating drivers in Windows 10, so that was most likely the problem: the function key utility driver wasn't installed properly after the installment of Windows 10.

Please, could someone help me?

I'm trying to get into the Bios of my computer (Toshiba P50-A-12Z) but this model doesn't have the F Keys, could you please tell me how can I do it without them?

Thank you so much!!

Answer:Satellite P50-A-12Z - How to get in Bios without Function keys?

I don't know what do you mean with ?missing F keys?.
Anyway on new machines you must perform complete shutdown at first. How to do this you can read on

After doing this start notebook again and press F12 (WLAN symbol) several times to enter boot menu. There you will find option ?Enter setup?. Choose it and you will enter BIOS settings.

Hello to everyone..

My trouble I think is pretty simple for you: Don't work buttons which respond media functions like stop, play, next song, previous. I think I don't have driver's.
What driver's should i install to make them work?

They stop to work, after my pc was cleaned by me :D
I think I deleted this driver from add/remove programs

Answer:Satellite M70-122 - I need the driver for media function keys

What OS do you use?

For Vista you need the Value Added Package. This contains all necessary drivers and software for the media buttons, FN keys and so far.
If you use Windows XP you need the Toshiba Controls.

Both tools you can find here: => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers

Good evening,

Since a few days, I noticed on my LAPTOP PC that I could not make any more as before, that is increase the sound with touches situated at the top of the keyboard (F9-F10) or the luminosity. On the place, it is the functions F1, F2, F3 etc. who set off. I have already tried by using the parameters systems and by parametrizing touches in "special functions", but that worked still, then in " mode F1-F12 ", still nothing and I put back in " special functions ", but once again unsuccessfully.

How to solve this problem, please?

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100 running on Windows XP SP2.
I got a slight problem with the hotkeys/function keys. When i press the FN + F5 (display output) nothing happens,
I fixed the wireless FN + F8 combination now. The FN + F5 still won't work. I installed the common modules and the wifi hotkey utility
I installed the Toshiba hotkey program but that won't help.

Anyone got any tip or something?

I recently Reinstalled Windows on my Laptop because of a Virus. As i was done with instaling drivers i saw that the Fn-Key and the Softkeys did not work any longer. So i was looking for the reason and discoverd that some drivers would not install properly. Is it because i now have 32bit instead of 64bit?

Is there a version for 32Bit? And which driver is the one for the Fn-Key and Softkeys?

Ch S

Answer:Function Keys of Satellite P775-11P do not work

>Is there a version for 32Bit?
Sorry mate but have you checked which operating systems are supported before you?ve started OS installation?
I?ve checked Toshiba download page on and Win7 64bit version is supported only.

Do you have recovery discs? Install original OS that you got with your notebook?

Hello, I am new to this forum so please bear with me if I am in error.

I have just bought a Satellite A100-049 and inadvertently pressed the F10 key. The LED below the key illuminated and I discovered to my horror that I could not type certain letters and, worse, I could not turn off F10, whatever that is! I eventually had to restart.

I can see what F1 to F9 do from the drop down list at the top of the screen, but I cannot work out what F10, F11 and F12 do, and am in constant fear of pressing them again! The handbook and Toshiba web site don't seem to offer any help, although it is probably because I don't know where to look.

Can any of you kind experts out there fill me in?

Many thanks,

Answer:Function keys issue on a Satellite A100-049

Hi there,

maybe I know how to resolve your problem. Try to press "Fn+F10" (Hold Fn and press F10 at the same time).
Then your keyboard should work properly again.
Maybe you pressed a key combination (e.g. "Fn+F10") and then the alternate keypad on your keyboard was activated.

Please give some feedback if my hint helped you.

I recently purchased TuneUp Utilities 2012 to help speed up my laptop and switched off a number of running programs, including some from Toshiba that were included with my laptop.

Problem is that the FN key no longer brings up a display of what my F keys do, and the F keys don't work (so I can't hibernate with F4).

Does anyone know which utility is responsible for the F keys?

Answer:Function keys don't work on my Satellite Pro L series

Fn buttons are controlled by Flash Card Support Utility.
In msconfig the Flash Card Support Utility should be enabled!

Furthermore the Flash Card Utility can be found in All Programs -> Toshiba
Here you can restart this tool.

Hey everyone, I'm hoping you can help me out with some issues i've been having after an XP downgrade.  The fn+f5 combo for shutting off the wireless doesn't work - It gives me an error about wireless drivers.  I used the thinkvantage downloader however, and I think I have the correct drivers (I even downloaded them separately after the install, and tried to install them, and it said I already had them.)  Also, after two or three Fn commands, I get an error where the program that controls the Fn stuff has unexpectedly quit.  If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

I recently bought a second hand sony vaio ne20e notebook which is less than 2 year old .I have found that the Fn keys do not work and have tried fixing this with the relevant driver updates to no effect .
I have put the problem to sony support and they have raised a further problem .The notebook is running vista ultimate 32 bit but ,according to the serial no.,sony says it was sold with a vista ultimate business operating system .Becauseof this they are unable to help further.
I would really like to remove vista ultimate and replace it with vista home premium .This os is running perfectly on my other sony laptop .Can you advise if this is feasible and ,if so , how do I go about it ?
Alternatively will any of the "repair ,boot and recover discs " help with this fault ?

Answer:Function keys not working

If the laptop has a recovery partition, you can revert the OS back to the factory default OS. Or, the laptop may come with Recovery disks. You can also buy the Recovery disks from the manufacturer sometimes.

Answer:Function keys are not working

Hi: You can use all of the W7 x64 drivers and software from the HP 2000z-2a00 on your model, except the BIOS and firmware files. You want this software for the Fn Keys... This package contains the HP Quick Launch Software, which enables special function keys on supported notebook models to be programmed. For example, the HP Quick Launch Software enables users to press the Fn+ESC keys to view system information. This software works with the supported operating systems.

hello everyone,  i have G500 with Win8 64 bit, purchased about 9 months back. I was getting a very low battery backup(about 1.4 hr) , so i tried updating all drivers and installing windows updates. So i first did the BIOS update using file Strangely, after the above update, the functions done by function keys using Fn option are now done without pressing Fn key and those functions which did not require Fn key to be pressed, now require it. ie. earlier pressing F1 would mute the laptop's volume, now to do same i have to press Fn key along with F1. I have uninstalled and again installed Energy Management software Still the problem is there. Pls is there some way i can get back the old BIOS ?

Answer:function keys working in different way

Please see this Knowledgebase article:
and see if it helps you.
Basically, you should be able to switch the behavior of your "F" keys with a BIOS setting considering that you are running the latest BIOS.

Hi, You may need to reinstall HP Quick Launch Buttons - the installer can be found on the link below. After the installation has completed, restart the notebook. Regards, DP-K

I have an HP Pavilion g6 model #D1C14UA#ABA and it is upgraded to Windows 10 Home. I have had a few problems with the upgrade. The function keys no longer work correctly. I have tried going to the product support page but there are no current drivers available for this notebook running windows 10. Is there a way that I can get the function keys working again? I also have a problem with the display not coming back on after the pc goes to sleep. The only thing that works is turning it off and rebooting. Can someone please help?
