Satellite L500 13z - Windows 7 doesn't recognize WLAN adapter

Question: Satellite L500 13z - Windows 7 doesn't recognize WLAN adapter

The Windows 7 RC's device manager doesn't recognize my Wireless Network Adaptater (e.g. : Atheros, Intel, or Realtek). I tried to install all the drivers from Toshiba support, but none of them work :

After installation, they ask me to plug the device on my computer (of course it is yet on the mainboard !).

=> Is there a way to know what is my Wifi adaptater ?

that one failed : (it's only say "network adaptateur" with a yellow exclamation mark).

=> Does anybody know when Windows 7 Drivers will be released on the website ?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite L500 13z - Windows 7 doesn't recognize WLAN adapter

Before you start to install all WLAN drivers that you can find on the Toshiba website you should make sure that WLAN card you have exactly. You can check this in device manager => properties => Details of WLAN card.
There you should an information like PCI\VEN_XXXX & DEV_XXXX

If you have founded this information you search with these terms on this website to determine the exact WLAN card:

After this you can download the correct driver for your notebook. Before you install it you should uninstall all other versions and restart the notebook.
Make also sure that WLAN is enabled with the hardware switch and FN+F8.

I have updatet my Toshiba Satellite L500-20X to Windows 8.
Unfortunately, since this update my WLAN Switch no longer works. All function keys work to F7, only F8 (WLAN switch) and F9 (touchpad) no longer work.

What can I do?

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards

Answer:Satellite L500-20X - WLAN switch doesn't work after Windows 8 Upgrade

Satellite L500 is not Win 8 upgrade supported? so I think the problem is a missing driver or software?

As far as I know in order to use the FN buttons the Value Added Package for Win 8 needs to be installed.
Check other driver area for Toshiba notebook series supporting the Win 8.
Maybe you could use the VAP released for other series.

Answer:Re: Satellite L500 -19E and WLan Mini PCI Adapter

According notebook specification your notebook has Realtek 802.11bgn RTL8191SE MiniCard and using standard n you should be able to reach very good data transfer speed and I don?t think WLAN card replacement is necessary.

Have you checked all WLAN settings and tested WLAN functionality with your new FritzBox 7390?

My new Ii've recieved it only today) notebook Satellite Pro L500 doesn't recognize battery. I cannot turn it on without AC. When AC is on, the LED of a battery is glowing orange for a 20-30 seconds, then LED turns off and Windows 7 says, that there's not battery.

I've read on this forum, that I can put my battery in, while the Windows is already going on and I've tryed that, it founds battery for a 20-30 seconds, and starts to charging, but than it's again doesn't see the battery. I've checked BIOS version, I've got 1.90. It is a latest, as can I understand, isn't it?

What can I do with it? Is it hardware trouble and I should post it in service or I can fix it somehow?

Answer:Satellite Pro L500-1T5 - Doesn't recognize battery

Hi Ponny,

What happens if you leave the AC/DC adaptor connected for 24 hours or over night and then you start the notebook without AC/DC adaptor? On first charging it takes a little bit longer until the battery is fully charged.

If this doesn?t work you should contact the shop where you purchased it or an authorized service provider. In this case you should get a new battery for free.

I currently own a l500-128 with windows 7 32 bits and I would like to know how you can turn off wireless in Windows instead of BIOS. Because I am using a clean installation I don't have any tools installed from toshiba so I don't know which software I need to use.

Second, I am wondering what the last 2 bios updates included. I have seen no improvement in performance so far, so I would like to know what was fixed.

Thank you in advanced.

Answer:Satellite L500-128 - How to turn off WLAN?

1)May I ask you if you did read the user manual?
You can turn off WLAN using the hardware switch on the notebook. You can also disable WLAN using FN+F8 key combination but therefore the Value Added Package must be installed.

2)I never noticed that BIOS updates improve the performance. Normally they fix only some problems and if you can?t find a change log on the Toshiba website there is no available.

Hey Andy,

Yes, normally the Vista drivers are also work on Windows 7 so it's worth a try! ;)

What WLAN card you have exactly? Maybe you can find a driver directly on the manufactures website, e. g. Intel or Realtek.

I have the Toshiba Satellite L500 and it has Windows 7. It has an internal wireless switch or something and I?ve asked several people and they all say the same thing you can turn on the wireless with BIOS or using FN+F8 but I turned it on in BIOS and the light on the front of the laptop indicating wireless on is not lit and when I try the Fn key and F8 every other tab shows up except the wireless.

This is getting me angry I almost want to take the laptop and bring it back although it is a great laptop but without wireless I am not interested.

Please help me solve this problem!

Answer:How to turn ON WLAN on my Satellite L500?

Please check device manager and be sure WLAN card is installed and enabled properly.
If the card is enabled properly all you must do is to use FN+F8 key combination.

Please note: if no wireless communication device is installed, no dialog box will appear using FN+F8.

I've upgraded my Windows Vista to Windows 7 Utimate 64 bit (Upgrade not clean install) for my Satellite L500-126.

Everything works fine except the hotkeys (FN+F keys), the hotkeys worked fine in Vista before upgrade. I want to reinstall the drivers or applications for the hotkeys but the downloads page confuses me a lot. Which driver and applicantion I should download for that hotkeys?

Answer:Satellite L500-126 - Hotkeys doesn't work on Windows 7

For the FN keys and all other ?special function? you need only the Toshiba Value Added Package. It contains all drivers that you need for these functions: > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

But I cannot turn on wifi led with FN+f8 button - Windows.

This isn't software issue - this button should work before start any kind of system but don't work. I tried everything including BIOS update. Card works properly but cannot turn on wifi :(.
Anyone can provide other solution than changing card?

I reinstaled Value added Package and Flash card support utility - fn panel works but buton f8 is gone.

The wifi card died in my toshiba satellite earlier this week, its out of warranty and the toshiba shop wants $200 to replace it with a standard 2.4ghz card.

I have been looking at upgrading it to a 5ghz capable card anyway.
I have found a card which looks good.
I am wondering if my laptop will support it?

The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L500-o1u012 and the old card was a Realtek RTL8191SE Wirelss LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC half size mini pcie card.

Answer:New WLan card for Satellite L500-01u012

The description says:

+Killer Wireless-N 1103 adapters support dual bands (2.4 GHz and 5GHz), 3-Stream MIMO and IEEE standards-based 802.11a/b/g/n in a half-size mini-PCIe form factor.+

So it?s a mini-PCI card and in my opinion, the WLan card should be compatible? theoretically?

When I use the FN key on the laptop the function menu will no longer appear so I am unable to turn my wireless back on which is the only thing I use the function menu for..

Are there any solutions to this problem or simple a way to turn on my wireless without using the function menu?

Should my WLAN indicator be glowing orange on my new laptop? Nothing in the manual tells me what colour it should be, but my instincts naturally assume that it should be green like the other indicators. The wireless connection is fine to the netrouter, but I would like assurance that this is OK.

Answer:WLAN led indicator on Satellite L500 is glowing orange - is this OK?

Yes, my WLan led is shining orange too and my notebook is Satellite U400.

Hmm?. the Win 7 drivers are not released yet? but I found some beta drives on the Toshiba US page:

Maybe you will find some Win 7 drivers for L500/505 series?

Otherwise I would recommend to check if you could enable the WLan in device manager -> Wlan card properties -> Advanced tab?

There are some additional options? maybe the Wlan On/Off would be there too.

I upgraded a computer to Windows 7 because it had a corrupt Windows XP install and I wanted to save myself the hassle of reinstalling Windows XP.

I am now having a problem getting the PC to connect to the internet. It says that no Ethernet Driver is installed and it doesn't even detect an adapter with no drivers in Device Manager. I was expecting the yellow exclamation point!

I used Everest to get some details about PC in question and I hope I can post it here.

I found some drivers for this motherboard online and it worked for the audio but I just can't seem to get the LAN working.

This is the page I got the drivers from:

I don't know how to install the LAN drivers.

The audio ones only worked when I did Windows XP SP3 compatibility on the EXE. I tried the same thing with the LAN but it said it couldn't find the I doing something wrong?

Answer:Windows 7 doesn't detect/recognize Ethernet Adapter

It sounds very much as though your hardware is incompatible with Windows 7.

Before you tried to upgrade you really needed to download and run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, which will flag up any hardware issues.

Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor - Download - Microsoft Windows

If you can find a Windows 7 driver for your LAN adapter you need to download it, save it to your hard drive and install it from there or go into device manager, select your LAN adapter, right-click it and select Update Driver Software.

My best advice to you is to reinstall Windows XP, and then run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.

I have this irritating issue.
I'm in the process of transferring files from my old laptop top my new and I bought a multi port usb adaptor so I can transfer. (My old adapter is really flaky and keeps getting disconnected when transferring)

So, the new adapter triggers a message from my Windows 8.1 laptops saying that it doesn't recognize the usb device.

I tried checking for driver updates but it says it's all up to date. I also tried cmd commands to scan device but it says there's no external drive or something like that.

Can somebody help me? Is this a driver issue out is the adapter faulty?

Hi all: It's been a while since I've been on, my computers and devices have (for the most part) been behaving themselves...but I have a strange issue that I cannot for the life of me figure out.

I have a "frankenstein" type computer, cobbled from several types of units. The friend who put it together for me is no longer in the area. It's got an ACER Aspire M5800 motherboard and Intel CPU Q9-400 @ 2.66GHz. The WLAN utility is a Realtek 8185 WLAN network adapter. It uses Windows 7 x64.

I checked to see if there was anything helpful on the forum, but to no avail. I also ran CCleaner, chkdsk /f, and the scan thingy; there has been no change. I also uninstalled the drivers for the Realtek, and when it rebooted, the computer said they were installed properly.

I recently purchased a cable modem (to get away from Time Warner Cable's draconian rental policy of their modem, but that's another story.) I did not realize I needed a cable modem router, but just got the cable modem. After 2 hours of tech help from TWC and the cable modem people (who would only help me up to their equipment working) I bought a D-Link DIR-655 router and set up encryption, network name, etc. I have another PC that connects fine to the Internet, 2 iPhones, an iPad, and Apple TV that are all happily buzzing along. However, my franken-CPU gives me the error message "No network connections available." I cannot get the Realtek utility to recognize anything. I ... Read more

Answer:Realtek 8185 WLAN adapter won't recognize network

You do not need any third party utility to get you connected to the router. The 8185 chipset only does Wireless-b WPA(tkip). There is also a version that does Wireless-a/b/g, and one that does only Wireless-b/g. All would be WPA(tkip) security.

Suggest you swap out the wifi card, and get a more up to date one, or use a USB adapter for wifi. Rosewell adapters are great deal for the money. You can pick them up on for under $15 for a Wireless-N capable card.

So I told Tempro "I did that and now leave me alone"
Tempro doesn?t like that, it keeps repeating that I there is a update... (which I already installed, you know?)
The message keeps coming up like every day.

Answer:Satellite A300 - Windows 7 doesn't recognize external devices

Hi doug47,

To be honest I think I can?t help you because I don?t know what you want to know exactly.

Which external devices you mean? Not for all you need drivers, like USB sticks, external HDDs, etc. Such drives will be recognized automatically (plug & play) and they are read to use after connecting.

If you mean printer or mobile phones there you need additional drivers. You can get it from the manufacture.

I have a venerable Satellite L300D running Vista SP2. I also have a Fujitsu 40Gb SATA disk drive from my old laptop in a USB 2.0 caddy, with dual USB plugs to draw more current.

I can connect the USB caddy successfully to my Windows 7 laptop through a single USB plug on a USB 2.0 socket so I know it works.

On the Satellite L300D it sets up the Generic USB disc in device manager, but does not register the 2 disk partitions as filestore in Windows Explorer. In fact when you try and expand COMPUTER in explorer it times out.

I noticed that the WLAN (Realtek TL8187B) is on the same USB 2.0 Controller, so I disabled it. This switched off my Wireless, but immediately Windows Explorer fired into life and I could access the partitions (D: and G:) and could even run check disk (no fails) and defragment it. As soon as I ENABLE the WLAN driver the disc fails to register.

I have updated the Realtek drivers from the Toshiba web site, but I would like a solution that allows me to use the disc AND the WLAN at the same time.

Anyone any ideas?

Answer:Satellite L300D will not recognize USB Disc unless WLAN is disabled

Hello Colin

Have you started to use your notebook with original Vista version that you got with your notebook?

I use Toshiba notebooks for a long time now but I?ve never noticed such issue although I use external HDDs and USB sticks pretty often.
Since when have you noticed such behaviour? To be honest I cannot imagine that this problem persists from the day one because original recovery image is tested and something like this should not happen. Maybe some updates can be responsible for this.

Try to remove WLAN driver, reinstall chipset driver and install WLAN driver again. After doing this test it again please and send some feedback.

I've got a L500-19Z laptop and it's set to 'go to sleep' when I shut the lid.
This generally works OK but occasionally when I close the lid it 'locks up' and when I open the lid the keys don't respond.

The only way out of this is to force a close down and then reboot. Does anyone know what might be the cause of this?
I'm loathe to restore my system if I can help it.

When contacting Toshiba all they can suggest is using the recovery disc and, if that fails, sending it back to be rebuilt.

Answer:Satellite L500-19Z doesn't always go to sleep

> The only way out of this is to force a close down and then reboot. Does anyone know what might be the cause of this?

I think it?s software issue? I mean it could be possible that some background processes are running and affect the standby mode.

The guy from Toshiba is right?. You should always set the notebook back to factory settings (restore OS using recovery disk or HDD recovery) in order to ensure that there is nothing wrong with hardware.

This should be done at first?
So do it and check how the notebook would work!

Mostly the Laptop doesn't start at the first try. The Power-LED lights up, the cooler and the HDD start(sounds like they turn exactly one time) and that's all. After a few seconds the Laptop turns off again. There's no Screen and the LED of the HDD also doesn't light up. If this happens, I start the Laptop again and again. In most cases I have to start 2-3 times, but one time I had to start it 20 times till it worked.

I also tried to start it just with the powersupply(I hope it is the right word for it, i'm german =D) and took the battery out of it but the result was the same.

But when the Notebook finally started, it works without problems.

Answer:Satellite L500-164 doesn't start sometimes

It is not easy to say what the problem is but it is definitely hardware related issue and your notebook should be checked by Toshiba authorized service partner. Using diagnostic tools they can find out why this happen.

Here in this virtual world we can just speculate about possible reasons.

Hi everyone,

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU M330 @ 2.13GHz
Physical Memory: 4096MB RAM
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 6.1.7600

My question is: Would taking out the battery when I am using my laptop while its connected to the AC adapter be wise or not? Would this increase or decrease the life of the battery, or will it not affect anything at all?

Is i3 processors have a centrino technique which disconnect power from battery whent it's fully charged?

What do you think about that ?

Answer:Satellite L500-1UU - Disconnect battery while it's connected to AC adapter

There is no problem removing the battery when on AC power. It should extend the life of the battery a little bit as long as the battery charge stays high (around 70%).

I recently purchased a Satellite Pro L500 and have been having the following problems.
My laptop doesn't start on battery only. The green power light comes on and the stays on with the laptop in a freeze (nothing displayed on screen).
The only way to get this light off is to remove battery.

Starts EVERY time with the AC power connected (with or without battery) - normal lights are displayed when connected.
Works perfectly normal once booted - with or without AC power connected

SOMETIMES starts with the battery only if I boot soon after I have already been using the laptop
I have tried the static release processes but doesn't work. (holding down power button with no battery or power connected etc.)

After having this trouble I updated to latest BIOS but has not helped
Tried a different battery and has not helped
Is a Toshiba Satellite PRO L500 T4400 4GB 15" Win7 Laptop - only 3 weeks or so old

Very annoying!
Please someone with a solution??

Answer:Satellite Pro L500 doesn't start on battery only

Try this.
Remove battery, disconnect the AC adaptor and then wait some time. I would leave it disconnected for about 12 hours.
Then connect both parts again, charge the battery and then remove the AC adaptor.
Then try to power up the unit using only battery.

If this will not help then you should get in contact with your ASP as fast as possible since the warranty is valid and would cover all hardware checks and replacements.

As usual, I allowed the battery to run down to about 10% capacity before plugging in the AC power. Whilst working away noticed that the charging would stop for about 2 seconds, and then reconnect. After a few minutes, it would do it again.
It is charging the battery, but it is now flicking on and off quite frequently - 5 to 10 times per minute. Apart from being off-putting as the screen dims, I am sure that this can only become steadily worse.

I have tried another adaptor - my son also has a Satellite, and the problem is still there, so it is not a fault with the cable.
I would be very grateful if anyone has any suggestions. I can take it back to the shop from where I purchased it, but that is about 1 hours drive away, and I need my computer every day, so I cannot leave it with them for any length of time, before driving another hour there and back to collect it.

Answer:Satellite L500-13W - Doesn't charge properly

hi merriman,
hope that isnt related to a hardware fault...

try the following:
- boot machine without mains, only battery
- while booting press F8 and dont choose any option, screen will stay (better is to do this with a dos boot disk but..)
- let the battery run empty
wait about an hour and make the same procedure again
this time runtime should be much more shorter!
- connect the mains and let the battery load 24hours without using machine, dont turn on (i think 12 h will be long enough too)
after this run machine without mains until the system requires "more power"
avoid short loading cycles, every load cycle decreases the capacity of the battery
allways ac- power means: every 2 minutes battery is checked and reloaded, this means in a year the load cycles are wasted...

I have a Toshiba Satellite l500-137 laptop with vista sp2.
There's a written cd that my dvd driver wouldn't read, the driver can read other cd's & dvd's though.
that mentioned cd is seems to be fine because it can be red by other computer.

any suggestions?

Answer:Satellite L500-13T - CD/DVD drive doesn't read CD

That means only one disk can?t be read from your notebook and all other disks can be read properly? Well, in my opinion it could be a problem of the disk, maybe it?s scratched and so it can?t be read from all drives.

In your case I would try to clean the lens of your CD/DVD drive. Therefore you can use a microfiber cloth.
Check this!!

first time on this board in the hope of solving this problem.

I frequently import CDs into Itunes. We have had the L500 for just under a month and I have noticed it does not play some CDs properly. It plays all DVDs just fine just so you know.
For example, I bought two brand new CDs from HMV on Saturday and only one of them plays properly. The offending item when played - the audio from it sounds muted and scratchy more like an old vinyl record on a turntable.

I would assume that since the CD is correctly placed in the tray and pushed in correctly that it will play. However something is wrong but I do not know how to fix it at the moment.

P.S I also tried playing the CDs on my PS2 and they play fine so I am thinking it is something in/on the laptop.

many thanks for your time

just bought a Satellite L500-11E.
I tried to login to a WLAN but every time I activate the LAN with the hwsetup.exe, the settings fall after a necessary restart back to `deactivated`.
Also the light in front of the notebook stays orange. Think it needs to be yellow to show an activated WLAN-card.

So how can I change hwsetups and keep them after the restart.

Thankful for every help

Answer:HWsetup doesn`t keep settings on my new Satellite L500-11E

I really don't know what are you doing but for WLAN card activation use WLAN switch and FN+F8 key combination.
You can put WLAN switch to ON position but enable/disable WLAN card with FN+F8 only. when you use disable option WLAN LED will be OFF.

Check it out.

I have Toshiba L500 and I have problem with my software. When I start the Windows the PC freeze and I see black screen and the mouse. I tried to start it in safe mode but then the PC just restart and safe mode doesn't work.

After that I played the recovery CD but the same thing like safe mode....When I start Safe mode with the recovery CD I reach to something but my option is to Erase the whole hard disk. Then I tried to start live Ubuntu CD to take my files but the computer restart again.... I don't have any Ideas if anybody can help me is welcomed :)

Answer:Win7 doesn't start on my Satellite L500

If you want to backup the date, the Recovery disk would not help you.
The recovery disk set the notebook to factory settings and this means that HDD will be formatted.

If you need the data from the HDD, you could remove the HDD from the notebook and could connect it to another computer using the USB to SATA controller (2.5? USB enclosure).
In such case you could get access to the files on the HDD but this would work only if the HDD would not be faulty?

I have Vista L500 with a dead keyboard. This machine has not been dropped or had anything spilled on it. I have plugged in external USB keyboard which works. The laptop keyboard does not. I have flashed BIOS, updated drivers, held shift key for 10 sec (read on another forum), reset computer, checked Windows Vista updates and ran 3 Virus checks.
Everything is perfect, just no Keyboard?

What else should I check? Could it be a motherboard problem?

Thanks for any help given :)

Can you enter the BIOS (F2 key) with internal keyboard?
If not the internal keyboard seems to be defective and needs replacing?

I don?t think you can do more. I mean you tried everything what is possible and if an external keyboard works the OS installation should be ok.

The keyboard can be ordered and replaced from an authorized service provider. Do you know how to contact the guys?

I have problem with my wireless switch. Take a look at this [picture|]. It says "bryterstatus: p?" which translates (poorly) to "switch status: on".

Although, when I press Fn + F8, nothing happens. All the other FN + "random button" hotkeys work though. In other words, I can't connect to my wireless. I know that it works, because I can connect with my iPhone. There's also nothing wrong with the connection, I've tried to deactive / active on and off. Tried to restart my laptop. I've even downloaded new drivers. Nothing seems to work. How can I turn on the switch?

Best Regards,
Miguel Rodrigues

Answer:Satellite Pro L500 - Wireless button doesn't work

Hello Miguel

Has your notebook ?factory settings? or you have changed something?
Have you installed own operating system or notebook still has original preinstalled operating system?
Is WLAN card installed and listed properly in device manager?

WLAN usage is so simple and by ?default? it must work properly. The same principle is on all Toshiba notebooks same. When you want to use WLAN you must move WLAN switch to position ON and use FN+F8 key combination to enable WLAN card. That?s all.

What you can try is to reinstall Value added package?

About a month ago I spilt pepsi on my laptop and had it sent for repair. I got it back today and it had a new keyboard installed, among other things. But, the new keyboard is not functioning correctly.

A bunch of the keys type nearby letters instead. E.g typing "a" gives "aq1", "b" gives "bgt". It seems to type the letters vertically above. Some work fine.

Is the new keyboard faulty, or does it need calibrated or something? My laptop model is L500-19X.

Now I have wanted to connect my Laptop to my TV again (I have done this before by using an HDMI cable and FN+F5, however not anymore.) but now for the first time I have noticed that the FN key does NOT bring up the menu it used to bring up when I pressed it before and I have no idea what is causing this.

I have tried using google ect to find a solution and the thing I noticed is that when I go in Start>All Programs>TOSHIBA>Utilities other people seem to have "Flash Cards" and "Flash Cards - Setting" now all I have is Flash Card Help, Restart Flash Cards and Settings for Flash Cards. I am just saying this to see if this has to do with the problem anyways moving on.

I would like to know how to fix this problem I already tried to install the Value Added Package but it did not help at all and this problem was probably caused due to me fiddling around with my laptop. Thanks in advance.

I am trying to set up a wireless connection with my Satellite Pro A10. I thought it was wireless enabled, but when I toggle the wireless switch, no light comes on and there is no wireless card listed under Network adaptors (so I guess not).

How easy is it to install a wireless adaptor (i.e. can I do it myself or do I need to have it done by a professional)? Can anyone recommend which card I should by (or any I should avoid)?

Answer:How to install WLAN adapter in Satellite Pro A10

According the notebook specification your Satellite Pro A10 is WLAN ready. In notebook specification there are listed two compatible WLAN cards:
PA3212U-4MPC (Agere 802.11b) and PA3273U-2MPC (802.11a/b).

I really do not know if you can use some faster WLAN cards with standard g. Maybe you will be lucky and someone will post here WLAN card upgrade results.

I am not 100% sure where the WLAN slot is placed but check please under the cover placed nears the battery.

Dear guys,

I have a Satellite L500-208 (Serial: PSLS9E) with pre-installed Windows 7 64 Bit.
Since some time, the Laptop doesn't go to energy save mode automatically (as configured in Energy Options).

The automatic change "Energy Save" worked some time ago and suddenly, it stopped.
However, I can't remember what changed and possibly caused the problem.

Anything else runs fine and a manual hit on "Energy Save Button" works also fine...

Before you guys suggest a BIOS update, the BIOS is in version 1.60.
Current version is 1.90 (or even 2.00?).
Well, I missed one update and since webspace at Toshiba seems to be very rare, they offer only the latest BIOS version.

Can somebody points me to the old BIOS versions or can anybody give a hint to strange power behavior?

Kind regards

Answer:Satellite L500-208 doesn't go to energy save mode automatically

Maybe there is something wrong with the Eco Utility.
I recommend reinstalling this tool.
On the Toshiba European driver page you will find this tool.
After new installation, please check the settings provided by Eco Utility.
Possibly you will need to enable the automatic energy save mode

Good luck

I am using windows 7 ultimate x64 on L500-126, the new win7 x64 drivers have been available since yesterday.....

However, the Flash cards (Fn Hotkeys) still doesn't work after the installation of the new VAP. The flash cards is able to show up at the top of my screen, I can click them by mouse, but the Fn combinations does not work at all!

I've noticed that there is a downloadable driver called "Flash Cards support", even I installed this application the problem still remained.

Then I uninstalled VAP and kept "Flash Cards support", to my surprise, the combination of Fn+F6 and F7 (Adjusting brightness) worked! however, without VAP I could not use other combinations.

Are there still problems with the new VAP for win 7 x64?

P.S. The new "Hardware setup" seems to be a problem as well, I tried to change some configurations in this application but after re-boot all the options went back.

A month ago I throw liquid on my laptop ?? Nothing happened at first, but 4 days ago I noticed that the ESC, 1, Tab, Q, CAPS LOCK, A and Z keys don't respond, don't work. In addition, when I activate the CAPS LOCK with the WIndows keyboard on screen, the CAPS LOCK's LED switches on in the real keyboard.

I've asked the TOSHIBA Technical support and they say it is a physical problem instead of electronic. What do you think?
I've though to buy a new keyboard for my laptop, but the thing is I've got a spanish/catalan keyborard and currently I'm living in UK.

Any advice? Try to order a keyboard from Spain and send it to here could be an option? But where do I get a Spanish keyboard?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Answer:Left side of Satellite L500 13N keyboard doesn't respond

When liquid spills on a keyboard it gets into the circuit and membranes of the keyboard and causes it to corrode or short. Basically you need to buy a new keyboard since it's generally not possible to repair it.

A Toshiba repair center may be able to get you a Spanish keyboard, there is an ASP list on the Toshiba website.

I bought a L500 six months ago and now it's almost useless. Trying to operate it by starting it normaly is impossible, taking more than 40 minutes just to start up. Getting any program running or any window open takes many minutes more, if at all.

I have tried restoring the computer to a previous date but it only goes back to two weeks ago and is still facing the same problems. I have checked for bad sectors and not found any. I have also tried doing a CHKDSK but it eventually freezes after a couple of hours during stage 4 of 5, in the following file:
Users\DANIEL~1\AppData\Local\MICROS~1\Windows\TEMP OR~1\Content.IE5\FIA7RO0V\combo[1]

I can operate the computer in Safe Mode most of the times, but when moving information it tends to freeze or slow down a lot. I have been backing up my information and many times it freezes during the process.

I have been using Microsoft Security Essentials but it has been deactivated. I can?t get it back on, although I have been constantly using USBs changing information between computers and no virus have been detected in the my other computer.

I do remember that one of the things that first started working strangely were WMP and VLC, as movies saved on the disk and some music albums would start freezing up after 5 minutes of being played, then playing again for a while and freezing later again.

What do you think the problem is? Is it likewise this will be a problem covered by the warranty?

Please let me know w... Read more

Answer:Satellite L500 doesn't work properly even on Safe Mode

Hi buddy,

> Is it likewise this will be a problem covered by the warranty?
It?s only covered by warranty if it?s a hardware malfunction but if it?s just a software or driver issue it?s no warranty and you have to pay for service.

Anyway, it?s hard to say what the problem is but theoretically it could be software related only and even in safe mode you have several issues I would try reinstall Windows from Toshiba recovery disk. This can restore the original factory settings (out of box settings) and with these settings everything should work properly. Then you can make sure it?s no software or driver problem because the recovery image is pretested by Toshiba.

If you still have problems after recovery installation contact an ASP!

Hey, a friend of mine recently formatted his laptop and installed a fresh copy of Windows XP Professional. Now, windows xp doesn't recognize the built-in adapter of the laptop anymore. It's a "Toshiba Satellite A200 PSAE0E". We're not exactly sure what type the adapter is; we think it's an Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945/4965/5100/5300 or Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200/2915. The user's manual doesn't say anything about the brand of the built-in WLAN. He doesn't have any cd with drivers.

Go to the Toshiba support site and select your exact model and download the drivers and utilities. I suspect you probably need some other drivers too if you didn't already go to Toshiba for them.

I was not sure if this problem would be better served in another forum or not. But, I'll start here.

I have a Compaq Presario 705us notebook that all of a sudden is not recognizing any wireless card I insert. I have tried three different types (Motorola WN825G being the latest). It recognized the original wireless card for two years up until about three months ago. I have reinstalled drivers, uninstalled to no avail. In fact, whenever I try to install drivers now, there is no trace of it anywhere on my notebook. I installed the drivers for the Motorola card today and the utility is not listed anywhere in PROGRAMS.

Any ideas to solve this would be appreciated.

I have XP home, HS cable, 256MG RAM

Answer:notebook doesn't recognize wireless adapter

It is possible that the PCMCIA drivers got erased. If you cannot do a Repair of the XP Install, it may end up that you may have to either dig into the Device manager to see if any devices are showing '!', so that the drivers can be manually installed, or worst comes to worst, a Format and reinstall ends up being quicker, especially if the install on the machine has been there for over two years as you stated.

When powered on charging light flashes yellow.
Battery does not charge and if battery removed the laptop shuts down.

At time this problem does not happen.

Moreover, when power cord is removed, battery charges for few moments and then yellow flashing light comes on and charging stops. When shutdown, the battery charges normal and 100% charged battery gives almost 4 hours time.

Can any one please guide about the problem. Is the problem in power adapter? or the battery? or the motherboard/hardware?

How to verify problem?

Answer:Satellite Pro L500: indicator flashing amber - battery doesn't charge

It seems that you already posted an thread about similar issue with your notebook some years ago.

In first case it seems that your battery was the troublemaker.

You are talking about charging indicator. I?m not quite sure what LED should it be.
There are 5 LEDs - from left: DC IN / Power / Battery / HDD, ODD / Bridge Media Slot

The first DC IN indicator glows green when power is being correctly supplied form the AC adaptor. However, if the output voltage from AC adaptor is abnormal or if the computers power supply malfunctions, this LED will go out.

The second from left Power indicator glows green when the notebook is turned on. If you turn the notebook into the sleep mode, this indicator flashes amber.

The third battery indicator show the conditions of the batter charge. Green indicates the battery is fully charged, amber indicates the battery is charging and flashing amber indicates a low battery condition.

Are you able to power up the unit without the battery but using just a connected AC adaptor?
Usually this should be possible even if the battery isn?t inserted.

Hi all,
I was using a 1394 adapter on one of the PCIe slot, and it was perfectly fine.
Recently, I upgraded A11 Bios (although I'm not sure if this cause the problem), the computer doesn't recognize the adapter any more. The IEEE 1394 bus controller is missing from device manager.
I ordered a new card, tried both PCIe slots, still no luck. But I did get lucky one time got the computer found the 1394 for one time but then it disappeared.
I'm suspecting the power to PCIe slots. Any thoughts are highly appreciated! Thanks all for your time reading this.

Here again since I have the most weird problem ever which I have never seen nor heard of before. I recently upgraded the OS on a friends computer, from Vista to 7. However now I can't seem to get the onboard ethernet adapter to work, it can't be seen in device manager nor anywhere else. I have tried to reset the bios (by removing the cmos battery) and I have also checked that the network adapter is set to 'Enabled'. Also, when I connect the cable to the ethernet port no lights go on, it doesn't give any sort of hope what so ever. The cable is ok, the "modem" is ok, and everything else seems to be in order and yet it doesn't work.

Computer in question:
HP Pavilion 6530sc
Non-default GPU and added 1Gb RAM

Answer:Solved: Computer doesn't recognize the network adapter

Whenever you install a new OS, always take note of the model of core system hardware like GPU, chipset, and ethernet/wifi (there are a few others that aren't as important, but nice to have updated) since those are critical to your computers core functionality.

However, a quick google search of your model yielded me with your PC's system specs. Your PC contains a Realtek RTL8201N ethernet adapter. So far I am unable to find a driver from Realtek itself and the HP driver is not Realtek, but instead nVidia nForce.

So after a bit of searching, I came across this: it seems to me that you have an old chipset from nVidia. I am not completely sure, but I think you have an ION chipset. Try installing this ION chipset driver (64 bit) ==OR== this ION chipset driver (32 bit) and tell me if it works. It should include the necessary component drivers and if it works, it means you have an ION chipset like I suspected.

Here are the specifications for your PC BTW.

Hi everyone.I have a Thinkpad T22 and when I updated it from Win2000 to XP (SP3) it stopped recognizing my D-Link DWL-650 Wireless Adapter. Hi. Well, I must tell you guys that after trying 5 different versions of the driver offered on D-Link site, I managed to make the card work. Answer:Satellite L735-11W: Suggestion for WLan adapter replacement

Such upgrade is not supported and Toshiba doesn't offer any kind of info about compatibility. Usually if notebook owners are not happy with internal hardware, solution is always external third part hardware as PSMCIA card or USB solution.

Unfortunately I cannot help you with this and you will be very lucky if anyone here has done such upgrade, successfully of course.

I just bought Satellite C850 without OS and installed Win7 x64 on it.

Then I was trying to set up Wi-Fi connection, but it appeared to be a big fail, cause the laptop says "Windows cannot detect any wireless network interfaces". Under the Network adapters in the device manager only bluetooth devices exists.
And I've no idea about what should I do :(.

Any help will be appreciated.

Answer:No WLan network adapter on Satellite C850 using Win 64bit

Before we start discussion about your problem post please full model name and model number?

At first you must install right WLAN driver and Value added package. When everything works well you must be sure WLAN card is enabled properly.

Basic questions:
My Satellite Pro L630-12E has (A) an Atheros AR8151 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller and (B) Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter.
Toshiba keeps regularly advising me that an updated Wireless Lan Driver has been released, which I must install.

First question: Is the Wireless LAN Driver the Ethernet Controller or the Network Adapter?

I check the versions on my machine of both (A) and (B) with the PC diagnostics tool and find that (B) is the latest version ( and (A) is a very old version ( I download from the Wireless LAN Driver Downloads page the latest version ( of "Atheros Wireless LAN Adapter" for my machine (Windows 7 (64)) and run the file. But still, wherever I look, my machine continues to state that the version of (A) is (

Second question: Am I updating the Atheros Ethernet Controller when I download and run the Atheros Wireless LAN Adapter?
If yes, then why doesn't it show the most recent version information?

Sorry for basic questions, but I haven't found explanations in various fora about the difference between 'ethernet controller', 'network adapter' and 'wireless LAN' after searching many times. I am concerned that Toshiba keeps informing me that I don't have the most recent version of the wireless LAN driver despite my efforts to follow their instructions.

Answer:Satellite Pro L630-12: Ethernet controller v Network adapter v. WLAN

> First question: Is the Wireless LAN Driver the Ethernet Controller or the Network Adapter?

Ethernet controller can be both; WLan and LAN? in your case I assume WLan is Ethernet controller? this would appear if the WLan driver is not installed

Your notebook L630-12E seems to support Broadcom BCM94313 WLan card and the driver can be found here:

> Am I updating the Atheros Ethernet Controller when I download and run the Atheros Wireless LAN Adapter?

This is LAN driver!

Hello everyone,

2.5 years ago I purchased L-750d-159:
Video: AMD Radeon(TM) HD 6520G
Wireless: Atheros AR9002WB-1NG Wireless Network Adapter
CPU: AMD A6-3400M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics
OS: Windows 7 Home edition SP1, 64-bit.
BIOS: 2.1

For the majority of the past 2.5 yrs I've had the same issues alternating between themselves over and over again with no solution in sight.

*Repeating issues:*
1. Wireless adapter goes dead, no help from the windows troubleshooter. Only restart helps, rarely it demans another restart. at the same time #2 happens:

2. Can't read from USB (i.e external HDD). restart helps.

3. Wireless Mouse unresponsive. Randomly, reset helps.

4. Freeze. sometimes when there's nothing running in the background. Of course, hard restart (power button only)

5. Office freeze.not always, but if it gets in the mood it could be going on for days where minutes after I start "Word" it would just freeze. Hard reset again.

6. "atikmpag" blue screen. After not having it for a long time, I just started having it again.

7. Power and battery issues:

7.1 With battery:
Suddenly stops charging. disconnecting and reconnecting doesn't help.
Charges only when the computer is shut down.

7.2 Without battery:
Instant shut down. Usually when running Chrome.

these issues are alternating, meaning everyday I get something else, without any order to them which I have noticed.

*How did I try to solv... Read more

Answer:Satellite L750D-159: different problems: WLan adapter, freezes, power

> 1. Wireless adapter goes dead, no help from the windows troubleshooter. Only restart helps, rarely it demans another restart.

WLan issues could appear because of different reasons. I don?t think that this is an WLan driver problem. I think you should simply check the WiFi configuration.
For example you should check if changing the WLan channel 1-11 would improve the performance. Also changing the encryption settings (WPA/WP2 AES TKIP) is worth a try.
Disable all power saving settings for WLan and check if there is an difference if you disable the WLan mouse.

> 2. Can't read from USB (i.e external HDD). restart helps.
Also the USB issue can be related to power saving settings.
In device manager -> USB controllers -> properties -> Power Management tab disable the option which allows the system turning off the device to save power.

> "atikmpag" blue screen. After not having it for a long time, I just started having it again.
This file/process is related to ATI graphic card. Try to use the latest graphic card driver. An update is advisable in such case.

Battery issues:
Well, sooner or later each battery will need to be replaced. I don?t know if your battery malfunctions but probably new battery would help to sort out the issue
Also delete and uninstall the Microsoft acpi-compliant control method battery device which can be found in device manager.

I bought a satellite m 30 one week ago. I have used the wirless lan some times. Now After I rebooted the computer the WLAN adapter is not working anymore. In the proprieties of the device there is code 10 error: impossible to activate the device.
I tried to uninstall the device and the install it back but it didn't work.
Do you have any suggestion?
Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite M 30,Intel pro WLAN 2100 3b mini PCI adapter not working

Hi, congratulations about your Satellite M30 !

Cool machine. Well I would keep it very simple. Set your Notebook back to the Factory settings ( Simple recover with the delivered CD ROM or DVD).

If the Wifi Card still won?t work, there will be a Hardware damage on your Notebook .

Please let the local dealer have a look at your machine.

I have bought an L300-254 laptop.
I installed the LAN and the wireless LAN driveres, but neither of them is working.

What is the problem?

Answer:Satellite L300-245 - LAN and WLAN doesn't work

You should give us more details? Can you please explain what you mean with ?not working??

Have you installed your own Windows version or was a Windows preinstalled?

The newest drivers you can download on the Toshiba website: => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers

Before you can use WLAN you must enable it with the hardware switch on the notebook and FN+F8.
Don?t forget to check the network configuration. If you router is set to DHCP you must enable it in TCP/IP configuration of the WLAN and LAN card.

Since yesterday my search for wlan-networks doesn?t work any more.

I already tried to switch wlan on/off and restart the laptop. But still the same problem.
Maybe I turned it off with the fn+F8-button, but if I try to reset it, I cannot see what is turned on and off.

The fn-button itself works fine with the other keys, but i can?t see the function on the desktop, but the function is working.

I can only use a network with a cable.

Maybe someone knows an answer.

thanks for your help

Answer:Re: Satellite P100 wlan doesn´t work, and cannot see Fn-key

Pressing FN+F8, you can see wifi icon and can en/disable it. Maybe, you need to update Wlan driver:

Hi,I'm trying to use my LifeChat LX 2000 headset with the Yoga 13's combi jack. The LX2000 has separate plugs for mic and headphone. I bought a standard adapter to convert this into the required combi jack, but only the headphones work. The mic is not recognized. I've already uninstalled and reinstalled the conexant driver and replaced the adapter with a new one. No change. The headset works on other computers with split jacks. Any thoughts?I know that there is the option of USB headsets, but since I already own the LX2000 and would prefer to not block another precious USB slot, I'd prefer using the available combi jack - as that's what the jack should be there for...Thanks,Jan

Bought Toshiba L515-S4960 laptop, then purchased a LinkSys RangePlus wireless notebook adapter, but I've yet to find a port to plug it into.

I wanted to extend the range of my router signal.

Does the spot above the eSata port open to support a adapter?

I don't want to tear anything up.*

Answer:Satellite L515-S4960: Does eSata port can be used for LinkSys WLan adapter?

No, you cannot use the eSATA port for the usage of the WLan USB adapter.
You can plug only the external devices which are compatible which support the eSATA port!

As far as I know the a LinkSys RangePlus wireless notebook adapter is an PC card which support an CardBUS interface.
You can use in only in the PC card slot which support the CardBUS as well.

Check you user manual if your notebook support the PC card CardBUS (32bit) slot.

I just intalled 2GB extra memory but when it is installed the wireless card doesnt work. When I take it out the wireless works!
The wireless card reports "device cannot start" error 10 when the mem is installed but works when the mem is removed again.
The fault replictes reliably every time I install / uninstall the mem and only started when the mem was installed

I tried the new part alone in the slot where the original part was and it works fine
( both are 2GB) but when original part put in 2nd slot - it doesnt work.

Anyone any ideas what the issue might be?

Answer:WLAN card doesn’t work with 4GB RAM on Satellite Pro U400-153

That is a really strange issue...

First I would make BIOS update so check the Toshiba European driver website for an update:

If you don?t have success with an update, try two other memory modules. Maybe they are not 100% compatible with the notebook.

I've recently experienced problems with my ac adapter, when I plug him in, there is no green light on laptop (sign that its charging) and I need to unplug-plug in again several times until green light shows up. Also, laptop is overheating and won?t work if adapter isn?t plugged in, if I unplug it, it turns off.

Any help?

Btw laptop is 4 years old

Answer:Satellite L300D-10B - overheating and won't recognize adapter

>Also, laptop is overheating and won?t work if adapter isn?t plugged in, if I unplug it, it turns off.

Does this happen even if the battery is charged and plugged in?
This would mean that battery is dead. This would also explain the issue why the battery does not charge.

I think the battery should be checked at first.

Regarding the overheating:
I guess the notebook has not been cleaned in the past.
This might be the reason why the cooling fans don?t work as it should. Dust inside the cooling module prevents the fans from running with high performance. I think this is the reason why there is a problem with air circulation.
So try to clean the fans using an compressed air spray. This helps to remove the dust.

I'm a novice is type with computers.

Well I have re-formatted my notebook and re-installed all the drivers but my wirless lan controller does not seem to be in my device manager.
I was wondering, if the driver needed to be installed in a certain order. I also had my add on Vodaphone mobile card plugged in the slot on the side would that make any difference?

well any help at all would be great

Answer:Satellite Pro 6050: WLan controller doesn't seem to be in device manager

As far as I know the WLan card was optional on this unit. In this case if you have purchased the unit with the WLan card the WLan should appears in the device manager. But if you have purchased the notebook without the WLan card you will not find it in the device manager.

Ps: The recovery CD includes already the WLan driver and you don?t need to install additionally any drivers.

I have recenty installed a new Intel 5100 Series 512AN_MWW Mini PCI NIC in the base of my Satellite P100-188 PSPA3E.
However, when installed, it refused to display and boot.

I am assured (reading technical info) that these cards use the same interface.
So why won't it work?
Is a BIOS update required to allow functionality. If so, could someone kludge one together please?

I have the latest 4.70 BIOS installed and am running Windows Vista.
I am desperate for this to work as I already have a Draft N 2.0 AP and would like to use it to its full capabilities.

Cheers, Rob

Answer:Satellite P100-188 doesn't boot up after Wlan card upgrade

As I understand your message you have upgraded the internal WLan card Intel (Golan) Intel 3945ABG 802.11a/g to Intel 5100 with N Draft support.

Well buddy? it looks like you cannot use the N Draft WLan card in this notebook model.
Seems such card is not compatible and causes these interferences.

As far as I know the Draft N need 3 wires antenna? the Satellite P100-188 antenna supports only 2 wires and can be used only with 802.11 A B or G standard.

I have a Toshiba C55-A-1L4 and the problem is that my laptop doesn't seem to recognize the battery.
The battery is full and when I open the pc, before I put in the password, I can see that it's full and it shows it, BUT if I try to have it work only on battery it doesn't work, I can't start the laptop.

Also,I've noticed that the little lamp in front for the battery doesn't glow like the other 2 (one for wi-fi one for power) the one that doesn't work has a plug/battery drawn next to it.

So, to conclude, I have no idea why this is happening and if anyone knows how to fix it please share :)

Answer:Satellite C55-A doesn't recognize the battery

The DC IN / battery LED (indicator) should glow amber when the AC adaptor is connected and battery is being charged. In case the battery charge is low, the indicator will flash amber indicates that only few minutes of battery power remain.

If it?s not the case, there must be some problem either with the AC adaptor power supply or the battery.

In my opinion the new battery should be tested?

I bought the M50-A-110 model and tried to replace the HDD with a Samsung 840 Pro SSD. The notebook didn't recognize the SSD, so I sent it to the local Toshiba service for inspection.

They discovered that the laptop doesn't recognize ANY of the newer SSDs (they tried Samsun, Intel, Crucial, Kingston and Seagate SSDs). They checked, and I have the newest possible BIOS so this can't be a problem, and all the SSDs worked fine on other computers.

Does anybody know how to fix this mess?
Does Toshiba have a beta BIOS that I could try?
Any other idea would be welcome as well.

As a longtime Toshiba user, I must say that I'm a bit disappointed. I mean I work in IT, and this is the first-time something like this has happened to me with a brand-new product.

Answer:Satellite M50-A-110 doesn't recognize new SSDs?

I'm about to buy a M50D-A-103 and the first thing I want to do is to replace the HDD by a SSD.
If this is not possible this is a reason to not buy it. Hopefully Toshiba will reply to this thread soon.

Hi all after 3 days of searching for any type of information ive found this site and I'm hoping somebody can help me.

I have a Satellite A300-1J1 and had to do a full reinstall of Windows using my recovery disc that was supplyed with the laptop (Vista Home Premium).
Anyway the install went fine and it rebooted and said I had to activate Windows not a problem I thought looked under laptop for key tapped it in and it will not recognize the CD key as being for Vista Premium. Now how is this possible the disc came with the laptop and the CD key is there?

Any help is greatly appreciated

Answer:Satellite A300-1J1 - Doesn't recognize the CD key

The preinstalled version of Windows shouldn't ask you to activate. If it detects that its not a Toshiba laptop, it will ask you to activate.

Have you had the mainboard replaced? Maybe the system information on the mainboard has not been updated. You'll need to send the laptop back to the ASP and get them to update the system.

It can also happen if you install a generic (retail) version of Windows, or you are using a Recovery CD from another Toshiba model. The CD Key on the base of the laptop wont work with a retail version. It only works with the Toshiba version.

Have tried various CDs and none seem to be recognised - its like the driver is not working.

Please reply in terms for a computer idiot

Answer:Re: Satellite Pro L300 - Doesn't recognize CDs

First of all you should give us more informations about your exact notebook model number and operating system.
Your posting is not so exactly so did you try to boot from a CD? Does it work?

If you have only problems in Windows you should try to remove the upper- and lower filters:
1) Run Regedit (Start -> Run -> Regedit)
2) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
3) In the right pane, delete the "UpperFilters" key, and delete the "LowerFilters" key.
4) Reboot.

Good luck! :)

Is it Android system?

In case of Android system you should check the Android settings and should enable the ?USB debugging? option.

In my Supportlink i found not any DVD-Driver for my Satellite Toshiba Satellite L875D.
And Microsoft install an too old driver see additional picture:

I hope someone can give me support with the correct driver.

today I boughted two 2GB Corsair RAM dimms (DDR2 - 667mhz) for my Satellite Pro A100.

After I updated the BIOS it detected the 4GB RAM, but the RAM-check on boot prompt just checks 3GB RAM. So I can use only 3GB RAM (i'm using ubuntu 64 as OS). When I try the RAM in another laptop, it works perfectly. A memtest86+ check says: no errors. When I plug just one dimm into the laptop it is detected correctly as a 2GB dimm (tested both dimms in both mainboard slots)

Does someone else saw this behaviour? For me it seems like a limitation or a bug in the BIOS version.

(The CPU supports 64bit (core2duo t5500))

Answer:Satellite Pro A100 - It doesn't recognize 4GB RAM

What Satellite Pro A100 you have exactly?
As far as I know some models can only be upgraded to 2GB RAM.

It?s really not easy to say what the reason is for this because I?m confused about this that the BIOS do recognize the 4GB RAM but not the boot prompt.
I?m not sure that maybe the modules are not compatible with your notebook. Can you test other modules?

I recently bought Satellite L50-B-1VP and I have some problems to connect it to my TV.
I have tried using an HDMI cable and also a VGA cable but nothing happens.

The cables and the TV are ok because i have used them before.
When i try with the HDMI it says ;no signal detected, but using the VGA cable the TV kind of restarts and the screen is black. I am using Windows 7 32-bit and i tried Fn+F4 and also Windows + P.

The problem is that the external TV is not recognized and does not appear in display settings.
What can i do?

If anyone could help me i would appreciate it very much!

Answer:Satellite L50-B-1VP doesn't recognize external monitor

The notebook was sold without preinstalled Windows system. It seems that you installed and configured Win 7 at your own hand.

Well, I guess the problems with the video output may be related to missing drivers or to system misconfiguration.
From my point of few you should check some essential points.

First of all I would recommend you to check if the essential graphic card driver was installed.
The notebook does not support dedicated graphic card but the CPU (Intel N3540) provides internal GPU Intel HD Graphics.

So I recommend you to reinstall the Intel Display Driver as well as the Intel Chip Set Utility

Feedback would be appreciated

Hey guys,

I've searched around this board and others, and haven't found anything that's quite like this. Basically my wife's laptop (toshiba a100) was working fine, and then one day it suddenly stop recognizing that the ac adaptor was plugged in. The ac adaptor light stopped lighting up and it stop charging the battery.

I didn't notice it wasn't charging until it was basically empty, so now the battery is dead, and the laptop definitely can't tell the ac adaptor is plugged in. I figured the adaptor itsellf was messed up, but I tested it with a voltmeter, and it seems to be working fine.

Basically, I just want to know if you've got any tips or tricks for getting it to work. I imagine I'm going to have to take it in for repairs, but I'm wondering what the actual problem is, and whether it's going to involve replacing the motherboard or something like that?

Thanks for any advice or info you can give!

Answer:Satellite A100 doesn't recognize the AC adaptor

What happens if you remove the battery and will try to power up the notebook connected ONLY to AC adaptor? Is it possible???

If not then there are two possibilities;
Either the AC adaptor is faulty or there is something wrong on the motherboard?
In both cases the faulty parts must be replaced?

I think in such case only an notebook technician could find out what?s exactly wrong with your machine
