Preferred Solution: Satellite A300 and Vista 64-bit - non working and unknown devices

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite A300 and Vista 64-bit - non working and unknown devices

Did you install the right graphic card driver?
The Sat A300-1GN belongs to the PSAGCE series.
I checked the Toshiba driver page and there are two drivers;
I think you have to choose the ATI display driver 8.477 because this driver supports the Mobility Radeon HD 34xx/36xx chips.

The other base system devices could be Bridge Media slot (for SD cards), touchpad, HDMI Control Manager.

I didn?t find such 64bit drivers on the Toshiba page. Maybe you should choose some drivers for Vista 32bit

I installed vista ultimate yesterday, but unfortunately my U200 is not as vista compatible as the sticker would make me believe.
Non functioning items I've identified so far:
- Speakers and Headphone jack
- Function Keys
- Fingerprint Reader

Almost none of the included toshiba software installs even after turning "Application control security off"

Does anyone know where I can get the new drivers and software or when they will become available?

Otherwise really liking Vista. It is very responsive and simplifies many tasks. It looks nice too, but thats not my priority.
Any help gratefully received

I just newly installed (my own Vista 64bit) , my laptop 21D, and I notice, that under device manager, there is option -show hidden devices, then 2 new unknown devices appear.
What are those devices and where to get the right driver for it ?

Answer:Satellite X200-21D - Two unknown devices after Vista 64bit installation

Hi there Green Orchid ,

Is the vista 64bit you installed the software that came with the system or a retail version of windows ?

Before you installed the vista, did you check if there are external devices connected on the system ?

I reinstalled Vista Home Premium (before removing the old one, I backed up "Toshiba" folder with the drivers) and now the touchpad isn't working + FN key also doesn't work.

Which driver should I install and where to get it?

Answer:Satellite A300 - After reinstall Vista touchpad and FN isn't working

Normally it?s not necessary to install a driver for the touchpad because it?s always enabled but you can this also with FN+F9.

However, you should try to install the Toshiba Value Added Package. This is necessary for the FN keys and on the Toshiba website you can also find the touchpad driver. Check this! => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers

I wanted to use system restore due to attempting to reconfigure administrator rights, its somehow deleted all my shortcuts on my menu and messed about with a few things.

However when i try to use system restore (i have attempted to use it in safe mode, via cmd promp, both together and normal boot), yet all seem to stay hanging in the same green page where it reads something along the lines of 'system is initialising restore etc' (spending 45 mins on this page before i get fed up and shut down the computer). I have tried using different restore points but the same occurs. It like its not working at all.

Can anyone help with this please?

My laptop is a Satellite Pro A300-1A8.

Answer:Satellite Pro A300-1A8 Vista system restore not working

You mean the Vista tool which can be found in (Start button -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore) does not work and you cannot set back the Vista to the early time point?

Well, usually there is no much to do? to restore the OS to the early time point you have to star the system restore tool and have to choose the restore point. Then everything should run automatically.
If this doesn?t work then something is messed up? as you said in your posting above somehow deleted all your shortcuts on my menu and messed about with a few things? possibly the OS has been messed to.

Try to clean the OS using the free software for example CCLeaner. I use it too. It?s great. Repair and clean the OS and check if it?s possible to use the system restore tool again.

I found also this MS page:
[System Restore: frequently asked questions|]

Excuse me for my bad English. I have a problem with my Satellite A 300 PSAG4E-0450. OS was changed from Vista to XP. Easy keys, hot keys and illumination stopped operating. All drivers were downloaded. I tryed to find this in control panel -> Toshiba Controls. I changed to on/off light, but it isn't work. If i try to turn off I see a window with "choose a command".

What can be wrong?
Thanks for Your help.

Answer:Satellite A300 - Some keys stopped working after downgrde from Vista to XP

As far as I know the illumination can be disabled and enabled in BIOS.
Check this!

For the hot keys you should try to install the Toshiba controls and hotkey utilites.
Check the Toshiba website:

I hope this is useful for you.

Hello forum,

we have a costumer who has bought a Toshiba Satelite Pro A300 from us, but he gets a strange error on it.
he connects a Sandberg USB 2.0 5port Hub to one of the usb ports, the pc finds the hub, but when he connects a memory stick to the hub nothing happens.
the hub and memory stick works on others pc's.

hope somebody can help.

best regards

John Bork

Answer:Satellite Pro A300 can not find USB devices

What happens if you connect the memory stick directly without this USB hub?
I had also an USB hub but these hubs are a little bit complicated and tricky? The USB specifications allows a certain power and depending on the devices that you connect you have to use an active USB hub, that means with external power supply.

But normally Satellite Pro A300 should have enough USB ports? If it?s necessary I would recommend an USB hub with 2 or 3 ports maximum?

Every time my Satellite A300 wakes up from sleep mode, the USB devices such as external hard drive and optical mouse can not be identified unless i restart the computer. This happens to the LAN port as well sometimes, the internet is gone once the computer goes into sleep mode. i tried pull them out and plug in again, the system gives me the sound of successfully plugged in but in My Computer i still can't find the external hard drive. it is really annoying.

Can anybody help me please? Thanks a lot!

Answer:Re: Satellite A300-0C3 - USB devices can't be identified

Maybe the external USB Devices are hiding behind the Network Drive Letters?

If you disable the Network, can you see the USB HDD?

Also try a BIOS Update.

Hi maestro2118,

Since when do you notice this behaviour and what operating system is installed?

Before you install or reinstall any driver, I would recommend removing the old driver first. Then restart your notebook and run CCleaner to remove old registry keys. One restart more and you can install newest webcam driver from Toshiba page.

Running windows 7 (32bit) as an upgrade from Vista and couldnt get most external devices to work because of driver problems. Talked to Microsoft and they found that my drivers are still there but cant find them unless I tell them where to look and so every device I plug in I need to browse to install drivers twice for.

Any body got ideas how to fix this?

Answer:Satellite A300 - Windows 7 doesn't recognize external devices

Hi doug47,

To be honest I think I can?t help you because I don?t know what you want to know exactly.

Which external devices you mean? Not for all you need drivers, like USB sticks, external HDDs, etc. Such drives will be recognized automatically (plug & play) and they are read to use after connecting.

If you mean printer or mobile phones there you need additional drivers. You can get it from the manufacture.

My problem started when I updated my Toshiba Satellite Model : M70-340 with Windows Xp Professional. Most of the drivers were detected by windows, except those :
1) Mass Storage Controller
2) Network Controller
3) PCI Modem

I was wondering how will I be able to allow windows to read them.

Thanks for the support.

Answer:Unknown Devices on Satellite M70-340

I wonder if you have read the ?installation instruction? before driver installation.
There you will find a guide line how to install the Toshiba drivers and what order is necessary.

I think if you will follow this guide lines you will solve you little, not very serious problem :)

Good luck my friend ;)

I have got problems installing WXP SP2 on my Satellite A200-1M7.
Vista was supplied with this notebook, but I decided to go back to the roots.
Downloaded all drivers available for this model and installed them.

Now I have 4 unknown devices in hardware monitor.
I guess I know what it is because I still can't see some things working:
1. Audio card: Made BIOS update, installed kb888111 and kb835221, and sound driver. No change.
2. Bluetooth monitor: Installed the driver but also no change.
3. Wi-Fi: The same, I can see the Atheros Wi-Fi manager window but it doesn't work (I am sure about it because I have another laptop nearby, and it sees my Wi-Fi router).

Anybody has these problems and a way to solve it?

Answer:WXP on Satellite A200-1M7 - Now I have 4 unknown devices

Very simple procedure? ;)

The Satellite A200-1M7 seems to belong to the PSAE3E series and you should chooser this series to download all Toshiba drivers.

Before you will install the XP try to update the BIOS to the XP version (at this time v.5.30-win)
Then check the Installation Instructions txt file and install ALL Toshiba drivers and tool using the order mentioned in this document.

Please note that the Windows XP should be updated to the latest state and many important patches must be installed directly from the Microsoft website.
So I would recommend checking the MS update site and to install every fix.

By the way;
Bluetooth monitor is not the driver? install the BT driver from this Toshiba BT portal:

All Wlan driver can b found here:

Sound driver can be found also here:

Best regards and happy new year

I would really appreciate some help on this one.

I am trying to get Win XP running on my Toshiba L650-1PK laptop.

I have two unknown PCI Devices and I am unsure to which driver they refer to. Searches on appears to offer litte help as well. Therefore I am wondering if there might be anyone that would be able to point me in the right direction.

The Device ID's are as follows.

PCI Device
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_AA68&SUBSYS_FD121179&REV_00\4&2A7 D5098&0&0108

PCI Device
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_3B56&SUBSYS_FF1E1179&REV_05\3&115 83659&0&D8

I have an idea that they might relate to my sound driver but remain unsure.
If so which manufacturer, ATI or Conexant.

However when I try and run update driver to these devices it tells me that a driver cannot be found on both the sound drivers available.

With thanks

Answer:Satellite Pro L650-1PK: 2 Unknown PCI Devices

VEN_1002 is ATI/AMD so that may be the Graphics Card

VEN_8086 is Intel, so you may need to install the Intel Chipset Utility.

Make sure you have XP Service Pack 3 installed, so you have support for HD Audio devices.

I can not explain why those two devices are listed as ?unrecognized? but be sure you have installed chipset driver at first, immediately after finishing OS installation. Please check Toshiba download page and there you can find ?Installations instructions? document. Follow the installations order and everything should be ok.

i just installed Windows XP on a Satellite U500-115 (PSU5EE) and can't get rid of several unknown devices in the device manager.

Before installing the operating system i switched the AHCI-Settings in BIOS to Compatibility-Mode(IDE), so i don't need to inject SATA-Driver during the installation.

These are the unknown devices:

ACPI\PNP0C32\1 (Location: Intel ICH9M LPC Interface Controlle - 2919)

ACPI\PNP0C32\2 (Location: Intel ICH9M LPC Interface Controlle - 2919)

ACPI\PNP0C32\3 (Location: Intel ICH9M LPC Interface Controlle - 2919)

ACPI\PNP0C32\4 (Location: Intel ICH9M LPC Interface Controlle - 2919)

ACPI\TOS6205\2&DABA3FF&0 (Location: Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System)

Of course i installed chipset driver and graphics driver from toshiba download page, but the unknown devices are still there! Can you please tell me what kind of drivers i need to install the ACPI-Devices and get rid of these unknown devices?

Thanks in advance,

Answer:Satellite U500-115 - Unknown Devices after Win XP Installation

In my opinion the unknown devices belongs to the SATA interface controller and these appears as unknown device because you have installed the XP in compatible mode.

Try to install the Intel Storage Manager driver.

The ACPI\TOS6205 device might be a Bluetooth device.
You need to install the Bluetooth stack in order to get rid of unknown device.

- Dispositivo desconocido - In English: Unknown device.

I have installed all the drivers from Toshiba and Microsoft. What are the missing driver?

Greetings from Spain.

Answer:Satellite U300 - Unknown devices after WXP installation

- PCI Memory Controller ? Missing Robson module ? this is not offered for WXP and this will always be listed in device manager. It should not disturb you at all.
- Unknown device ? I am afraid you have forget something. I do not know what but it can be card reader controller or maybe password utility.

Please be sure you have installed all listed stuff following ?Installations Instructions? document. The installations order is also very important.

I've got a Satelitte A200 PSAE6E and it came with Vista.
Now i've downgraded to XP my self and installed all the drivers i could find from the toshiba website
I still have these problems:

1. I have a pci memory controller that is not identiyfied by windows and i want to resolve that

2. When i connect my video camera trough 4 pins firewire to my laptop does not found and when i do it by ieee1394 to usb, i get usb device not recognized (trieed downloading drivers for the cam but they did not work)

Please help me :)

Answer:Satellite A200 PSAE6E: unknown devices after XP installation

Regarding the point *1:*
The "PCI Memory Controller" or "Mass Storage Controller? means the Turbo Memory former Robson module. This feature is available only in Vista and therefore the drivers are not available for Win XP.

Check this:
[No Windows XP driver for PCI Memory Controller|]

*2)* I don?t know how it works with you camera but I needed to install firstly the cam drivers and then I have connected the camera to the notebook using an firewire-to-USB 2.0 cable and then I enabled the video camera.
My A200 recognized it immediately.

Can someone tell me which driver I exactly need for these 2 devices?

The 2 devices are:

As mentioned, i allready downloaded all drivers for this laptop and installed them, windows is ofcourse up-to-date. Also I let windows search for drivers on the Internet and on the whole drive, but no drivers where found.

Who can give me the golden tip?

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-306 - 2 unknown devices in device list

There is a good method in order to find out what drivers are missing.
First of all you should check the DEV (device) and VEN (vendor) IDs

Here is an short instruction how to find this details:

Knowing the device and vendor ID, it should not be a big deal to get the right drivers.

At the other hand you should install also additional Toshiba software (Toshiba System Driver) released for Win 8.1
Please note also that there are two Win 8.1 driver areas: ?Win 8.1 update? and ?Win 8.1 32bit/64bit? categories
In case you would not find all drivers within the Win 8.1 update check also the Win 8.1 32bit/64bit categories.

I installed new software to use USB port to connect the board and program that board During this installation some things went wrong and all my USB port are not responding or not working at all...

When i checked the Device Manager it shows like Other device -> Unknown device..

I install the chipset from Toshiba download and still I can?t solve the prob....

my USB all port not working..
my WiFi is not working..
my Camera is not working...

rest of all work i guess any suggestion to solve this problem?

Answer:Re: Satellite L300 - Unknown devices in device manager

Could it be possible that the 3rd party software which you have installed to use the USB ports has muddled up the whole system?

The driver for the unknown device which appear in the device manager can be identified very easily.

I recommend checking this HowTo:

You need the Vendor ID and Device ID and using these both ID in pci database would help you to find out the right driver.

By the way: if your Wlan and cam don?t work, install the drivers? die you already tried this?

What are the above devices?

Wait a moment. Which operating system you try to configure?

Have you checked on Toshiba download section if ?installations Instructions? document is available? If you just follow this document you will install all you need and everything will be OK.
Anyway, multimedia controller can be Multicard reader device, network controller is probably wireless card. I cannot say what unknown device is because I do not know which drivers you have installed already.

Have just installed XP on a U300, I've downloaded every driver from the website.
Now i've got 2 Unknown devices ! Any ideas of what these could be ?

Answer:Satellite Pro U300 - 2 Unknown devices in Device manager running XP

One could be the unknown PCI memory manager.
This PCI memory controller is Intel Turbo Memory also called Intel Flash cache logic chip.
It is a new technology designed to support new Vista capabilities.
There is no driver for it for Windows XP, because XP doesn?t support the cache function. Only Vista supports this!

I have no idea what could be the other unknown device. Check simply what devices don?t run and you will know what it is!

Please, I need Your help.

I bought 4 days ago an Toshiba portable computer, detail spec is in attachment (Satellite A100-768, dual core)and with it came Vista system with directx 10. I wasn't satisfied how things work on that system (there's no game that worked on it NFS3, NF CARBON, ST LEGACY) so I decided to reinstall system and put XPSP2, and I did.

Now, I was aware that I need to find drivers, so I looked on site, and I didn't found exact match with model, so I download drivers for Satellite A100-S8111TD (american site of toshiba) but only for sound, blue tooth, hotkey, utilities, and so on, but only for wireless driver I did not (50megs Hugh through 50k modem).

I downloaded also Intel drivers for motherboard and graphic adapter, and all that work fine, BUT!!!
One problem come out, driver for sound card doesn't work -- driver installation goes fine, but it won`t start.

In device manager there are 3 question mark and one ! mark for sound card it says that can not start, code 10.
3 ? marks are for Network adapter, Ethernet, Mass storage <- what drivers that I need to download to get reed off it.

One of drivers that I downloaded did something in Command prompt window, and I suspect that he flashed BIOS and now I have TPM error. This TPM I found in security tab in Bios, but I can not change it, it wouldn't let me.
And one more thing, still, no game woudln`t start, what is happening

Answer:Satellite A100-784 (PAAANE) Cannot find XP drivers - unknown devices

First of all you can also try to download the drivers from Toshiba European page.
There are also XP drivers from different A100 series.

Anyway, I assume the sound does not work because the wrong XP driver was installed.
Different A100 series supports different sound cards.

As far as I know your A100-784 unit supports Realtek ALC 861 HD audio sound card.
Therefore you have to use the driver from Realtek.

The notebook supports also an Intel 945PM Express Chipset code name CalistogaPM + ICH7-M. I would recommend installing the Intel chipset diver. You could find it on the Intel page.

The question marks appear in the device manger because you need compatible drivers!
I assume you will need the LAN and WLan card driver.

The notebook uses Intel 82562GZ (Ekron) LAN card and therefore you have to look for the driver which support this chip!
I?m not sure about the WLan card but it seems it?s an Atheros WLan card.

As I said above? try the drivers from different A100 series and goggle additionally for 3rd party drivers.

good luck

My laptop has crashed. When I turn on the laptop I get a black screen asking me to select either startup repair (doesn't work) or start Windows normally (doesn't work).

I am then presented with System Recovery Options (start up repair, system restore, windows comple pc restore, windows memory diagnostic tool, command prompt, toshiba recovery wizard). No matter what optioin i select, nothing works. I have tried the recovery wizard but it advises i will lose all data.

I can't afford to lose all my data as it will mean i also lose itunes and i wont be able to deauthorise the computer.

I also have alot of photos and other important info.

I dont have any back up disks (they were not supplied when i purchased the laptop).

Hoping someone can help as i really need to retriend my everything.

Answer:Satellite A300 is not working

> I dont have any back up disks (they were not supplied when i purchased the laptop).
The Recovery disk are not supplied because you have to create the recover disks using the preinstalled software called Toshiba Recover disk creator (I guess this is mentioned in user manual )

But this is the same recover procedure provided by Toshiba recovery wizard which you can find press F8.
Both procedures (HDD recovery or Recovery disk) would format the HDD.

I think you should boot the notebook using Live CD. You can use Linux Live CD or WinPE (or BartPE).
Google for that?

These CD would boot an Windows or Linux environment and would get a access to the files on the HDD.
Then you could safe the files on external medium and then you can install Windows using HDD recovery .

Hey guys,

So my laptop crashed down on me there a few months back and I never did anything about it. But now i'm determined to get it sorted!

So basically, while I had my laptop plugged into my printer via usb, the laptop just froze. Nothing was responsive so I turned it off.

Now when I turn on the laptop I get this message about "Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer."

Then it goes on about it possibly being caused by a usb device being disconnected while in use by the laptop. Now I can't remember exactly as it was a few months ago, but there is the very real possibility I accidentally disconnected the laptop when I was using the printer!

I can't start the laptop at all. I get that message described above and if I click enter I get the option to launch startup repair (Doesn't work, just brings me to a black screen after attempting to load files or something) or start windows normally, just bringing me back to the screen about the error!

I've tried my recovery discs I got with the laptop but that also just ends in a black screen, no noise of a disc moving as if its launching its application.

If anyone had a solution to this problem, that'd be great. (I said I'd give you guys a shout before I went to the Computer Expert, which equals money, so hopefully one of you can help!!!)

Thanks a lot for reading!

Answer:Satellite Pro A300 Not Working

Did you boot from the Recovery Disc or run it in Windows?

Can you boot from other bootable CD's or DVD's?

Has extra Memory (RAM) been added? Perhaps test it with the bootable Memtest CD from
You may want to test the Hard Disk as well using Hitachi Drive Fitness Test or similar bootable CD.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A300-15C to some queries:

Is this kind comes with Windows Vista DVD?

Answer:Does Satellite A300-15C comes with Vista DVD

The newest Toshiba notebooks seem to be delivered with the Toshiba HDD image.
This means that the Vista and all other drivers, tools and utilities are already preinstalled on the HDD and the image is placed on another partition.

You can burn this image on the DVD to get a Recovery DVD.
As I?m not mistaken there should be preinstalled Toshiba software called ?Recovery Disk Creator. This tool can be used to create a Recovery DVD.

So once again; the notebooks are not delivered with the Vista DVD.

Any ideas please?

Did you use a Toshiba Recovery Disc to downgrade?

Or did you install a generic retail version of XP?

Maybe you need to install some Toshiba drivers and update the BIOS.

My FN key seems to have half broken.

When I press it usually the icons would appear on top of my screen now it doesnt and all the function keys like F1 F2 F3 etc work with the FN key except F4 which hibernates the computer, also the light turn on underneath F10 if that helps.

Can someone tell me how to resolve this?

Answer:Satellite A300-1J1 - Some FN keys are not working

What OS do you use?

I doubt that this is a hardware issue because FN+F4 works and put the computer in hibernate mode.

If you use Vista you should reinstall the Toshiba Value Added Package.
If you use XP you should reinstall the Hotkey utilite.

Answer:Satellite A300 - Microphone not working

Are you speaking about internal or external microphone?

If you are speaking about internal mic then it would be interesting how you did you test this?
As far as I know the internal mic belongs to the internal webcam. So start the webcam software and record a short video with the sound.
Then you can check if the sound was available in this video.

I've a problem with my Toshiba Satellite A300.. everything was working fine, but some day ago when i used the notebook it began working and it blocked after few seconds.. i tried to turn it on again many times, but it always blocks..
I gave the notebook to a technician and he told me that probably the motherboard is broken and that I have to send my computer to the Toshiba center to repair it..
Now the problem is..the period of warranty if finished..and they told me I've to pay 60?/hour of work plus I've to pay for the new motherboard.. thus I'm worried I've to pay too much to repair the notebook and I don't know if it's better to repair it or buy a new one..

What do you guys think? Does anyone know how much may the reparetion cost?
I really like this computer, that's why I didn't buy a new one yet..

Answer:Satellite A300 - Motherboard is not working

Hi buddy,

The exact repair costs only know the repair center I think so I would contact the guys and ask how much it costs +exactly+. I think mainboard exchange takes about one hour so you have to pay the 60 Euro/hour + new mainboard.

If you know the exact repair costs you can decide what is better but without knowing that it?s hard to say which way would be the best one?

I?m not quite sure if this will help you but try this:
Go to device manager and remove the CD/DVD drive from the device list.

Then start the registry (regedit.exe) and remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

After that reboot the notebook.

Hi Everyone

I was asked by a friend to repair their Satellite Pro A300, as their CPU Cooling Fan had stopped working even during POST bootup and the laptop would overheat and shutdown. So I thought it could one of three things:
# Fan is clogged with dust or dirt
# Fan bearing has failed
# Fan power cable was loose

So I disassembled the laptop and cleaned the fan/heatsink using compressed air and checked the power connection which was solid, but this did not solve the problem, so I replaced the fan and heatsink with another one that I knew worked from the same model laptop that had a fault motherboard because of the random bios boot-up password bug (out of warranty) but still no joy.

I am beginning to believe that the fan was perfectly fine rather the motherboards cpu temperature sensor(s) that control the fan activation has failed.
Am I correct, in thinking that this is basically, irreparable without specialised tools and my friend will have content themselves with turning the system off every hourish or is there something else I am overlooking?

Thank you, for any help.

Answer:Cooling fan is not working on Satellite Pro A300

Do you have a multimeter? Maybe check the voltage of the fan pins on the mainboard. If there is no voltage under load then the mainboard will most likely need replacing.

If not you should contact the authorized service provider in your country. They can replace the drive your. If it?s under warranty, the repair should be free for you.

I have a problem with my Toshiba Pro A300-2C5.
It has stopped working today.

I poured a tea over it but removed is as quick as possibe but some water got inside of my laptop.
It was working for a while, I switched it off and switched it on again one hour later but unfortunately it stopped working.

When I try to switch it on, the syptoms are as follow:
- the only light which lights is a power light
- the screen does not work at all (it remains black and switched off)
- fan is working
- it seems hard disc does not work at all so Windows don't start
- keyboard does not work, when I hit tke keys nothing happenes, I tested Caps Lock key but it does not flash
- computer does not read my camera memory card

What shoul I do to make it working again? :(
Any help appreciated.

Answer:Satellite Pro A300-2C5 stopped working

The malfunction can be related to different notebook parts? in worst case the spilled fluid damages the motherboard and you will need to replace the part.
In best case it could be an RAM fault as happens to a friend of mine.
He spilled coke on the keyboard and after a while the notebook could not power up.
We checked the RAM modules and replaced the two modules with new RAMs and this fixed the issue?

You can try this too? maybe it helps? otherwise all other parts needs to be checked by an ASP technician.

There is an x64 TI xx21 version that does not work, available from Download Centre.
Anyone know how I can track/identify the devices &/or the missing drivers?
Used DriverMax and online Update Driver but nothing shows.

PLUS - anyone knowledgeable about the A100-306 with T5500 duo proc......
Is this a true 64 bit device or is it a 32 bit system running a 64 bit processor?

I have x64 Vista loaded which should show 4Gb or more, but it still reads 3062Mb.
Having read lots, I find that some people differentiate between system and processor capability, others do not.
Is it possible to have a 64bit processor in a 32bit system?
Why has this issue not been solved?
If it is a 32bit system, why should we bother putting x64 OS on it?
Confused on this so any help would be great.

Yep! I have latest BIOS.
Oddly enough, I did get XP_MCE to show 4GB RAM immediately after BIOS upgrade.

Finally, Thanx to everyone who has asked (& replied to) all those other questions I had.

My Linksys Wireless USB Network Adapter (WUSB11, ver2.5) suddenly stopped working. 15 year old son claims he didn't do anything different. I believe him.

Went to Device Manager and found a number of Unknown Devices with yellow exclamation marks, including the following: Direct Parallel; Infrared Port; My NIC card, the WUSB adapter, preceeding two wntries with ending "Packet Scheduler Miniport"; WAN Miniport (IP); WAN Miniport (IP)- Packet Scheduler Miniport; WAN Miniport (L2TP); WAN Miniport (PPPOE); WAN Miniport (PPTP).

After looking at a few forum sites, uninstalled all unknow devices in safe mode. Rebooted. Now just have my NIC card and "USB device" (the wireless adapter) listed with yellow exclamation points. Repeated a number of times, same results. When I unplug Wireless adapter, only NIC card listed under unknown devices, but with yellow exlamation mark.

I have run AVG virus scan. Found a couple of Trojans, and deleted (Sorry I don't recall names).

I bought the notebook Toshiba Satellite A300-1NT which came with Windows Vista 32-Bit pre installed and an XP Recovery Disc.
I bought the Vista 64-Bit Edition but I didn't find any drivers for Vista 64-bit on your website though it is 64-bit compatible.

How can I get them ?

Answer:Satellite Pro A300-1NT - need Vista 64-Bit drivers

It looks like the Vista 64bit drivers for A300 series are not available on the Toshiba European driver page at this time.

Therefore you?ve got two possibilities;
Either you will wait till such drivers will be released on the driver website or you will try to collect such drivers at your own hand.
You could search and try for example such single drivers released for another notebook series and could search also on website from chip manufacturers like Intel, Realtek, etc?

I must say that your message is really confusing.
I don?t know how someone could wipe the Realtek picture and the speaker picture.

But I will try to help you.
I think you should firstly access the device manger and should remove your sound card from the device list.
Then reboot the notebook and after new reboot try to reinstall the sound driver which you have downloaded from the Toshiba European driver page.

Usually this should help to renew the sound card driver and to get the sound back!

How can I now get back my original vista on foot?

I tried f12, but it wont run anything when I click HDD

Answer:Satellite A300 cant recover vista

This is not possible mate?
The recovery partition would not help you if you are not able to access this wile booting the notebook.
Usually you should choose F8 and then Repair My Computer.
This should lead you to the option ?Toshiba HDD Recovery? but if you will not be able to get this option then you would not be able to recover the notebook using the HDD partition.

In such case you have to use the recovery disk?

If you don?t have such disk then you need to order this? read some threads here in the forum.

Otherwise you need an F6 SATA Driver and a USB Floppy Disk (For XP).

And also all drivers have been installed like "Repair my computer" case?

Secondly, If its no, then i will install another OS such as WXP SP3, Can i do it?

Answer:Re: Satellite A300-Y00 - Downgarde Vista to XP

Do you downgrade Vista to XP by using the Microsoft disk?
If yes, all files will be deleted that are stored on the first partition. You can format the second partition but this is not necessary.
Before you install XP you can choose what partition will be formatted or not.

Of course you must download and install each driver after downgrade. You can find it on the Toshiba website: => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers

Answer:How can I reinstall my Vista without CD - Satellite A300

You mean you want to use the HDD recovery option?
If yes then you have to press the F8 buttons while notebook powering up.
Then choose Repair my Computer.

Then a new window will open, here you have to choose the last option called Toshiba Recovery.

That?s all

I've got an A300-1ia, and since a week most of the FN function keys won't work anymore.

The utility does not pop-up anymore in XP and Vista.

I have a multiboot system and the problem did apear a week ago.

I think it has to do with some windows update.

Answer:Satellite A300-1IA - FN utlility does not pop-up on both XP and Vista

If you are using the Win XP then I would recommend reinstalling the Common Module.
If you are using the Vista reinstall the VAP (Vista Added Package).

I recently reset my Satellite A300 to its defaults using the HDDRecovery utility. The OS now is Vista Home Premium SP1, but I am not able to update vista drivers or get the upgrade to SP2, so I am struck with my default SP1.

I tried to install upgrades with auto updater, or by manually checking for updates under "Windows Update " options. I got no results with the first method (planned updates dont start at all), while with the second method when i click the "look for updates" button it tells me "unable to check for new updates; ERROR CODE 80072EFE".
So I tried to download official microsoft executable update packages from their download area, but they all fail at installing.
What am I supposed to do?

Thanks in advance, Alessandro

Answer:Satellite A300-1IK - Can't update Vista

Hi caiusteblack,

> So I tried to download official microsoft executable update packages from their download area, but they all fail at installing.
What update pack you have downloaded?

Generally speaking if SP1 is already installed you can start with SP2 installation for Vista but SP1 must be installed firstly. SP2 can be downloaded on official Microsoft website (not Windows Update). Download SP2 and start the installation and check what happens.

Hi All!

I have question. Can I legaly use cd key of windows vista home premium preinsaled on my Satellite A300-1ED to install a clean oem Windows Vista Home Premium of cause without toshiba, or mcafee software?

Big thanks for answer!!

Answer:Satellite A300-1ED - CD-Key for OEM Vista installation?

You can try to do this but this will not work. This key will not activate your own preinstalled OS.
This product key belongs to recovery image you got with your notebook.

Many people understand this wrong, especially when they sell old notebooks on eBay and wrote: legal production key is on the bottom. And what to do with this key? You cannot do anything with it.

Answer:Satellite A300-1HP Vista x64 drivers

Your Satellite A300 belongs to the PSAJ4E series and on the Toshiba website for this model are not 64bit drivers available.

I think you must search on external websites for the drivers and try to download and install the VAP from an other notebook model.

As far as I know the sound and modem driver you can get from this website:

Does anyone know list of Toshiba driver for Satellite A300-y00?? How can i check it??

I wanna download Vista ultimate but i do not know which driver has been installed in a300/y00..

Helps would be appreciated

Answer:Need Vista drivers for Satellite A300-Y00

It seems that the Satellite A300-y00 is an Toshiba Australian notebook series.
I don?t know what series it is but you could check it at the bottom of the unit.
There must be a model number; something with PA??.

Check this and choose this notebook model on the Toshiba Australian driver page.
There are some Vista drivers.

Hi All,
I have just purchased a new Satellite A300 Notebook , pre-loaded with VISTA with XP Downgrade option.

I have completed the VISTA (Setup) and made the recovery DVD's. Now I want to actually downgrade to Windows XP, using the Recovery CD provided with the laptop by Toshiba, but the instructions are vague.
I have tried F12 at bootup and selecting CD/DVD as boot, but it seems to hang on black screen.

There are files on the disk (3.2Gb worth) as I browsed it on another PC. I also tried the System Recovery option at bootup (F8) but it does not determine that the disk is a recovery / backup disk. I do not want to just run a straight XP install from my Volume Licence copy for obvious reasons.

Does anyone have any information / procedure about how to downgrade using the Toshiba supplied CD?

Any help gratefully received.
With Thanks,

Answer:Satellite A300 - Downgrade from Vista to XP

Can you hear that the drive is reading the XP disk if you boot from it? Does the computer hangs on the blank screen or you get an error message?

Can you boot from another disk? Maybe the downgrade is not working properly or it?s a CD/DVD drive issue. Check this!

Sorry but at the moment I can?t say more.

Hey I have a problem.

I tried to restore my Toshiba Satellite A300-1QD to factory settings by hitting the F8 button.
I followed every step correcrtly, but when it came to 99% the computer was shut down all of a sudden.

I don't know why, but maybe the computer got overheated or something, but I had enough battery life.
Then I tried to power it on again, and it says that there may have been some damage caused and it says I should put in a "a CD to install Windows" as step one, step two says I should pick a language, and step 3 says I should click REPAIR.

Then it says if I don't have the CD, I have to contact the producer.
As far as I remember, I didn't get any CD with my Toshiba when I bought it a year or two ago.
All I have is a yellow mini CD that says DRIVER DISK on it.

Does any of you know if a recovery CD comes with Toshiba Satellite A300?
And does anyone know what I should do since I think I don't have it ?

Thanks in advance.

You didn?t get the recovery disk because there was an option to create own recovery disk? you had to read the user manual?
The preinstalled tool called Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator could create a recovery disk?
Now it?s too late? you are not able to start the system?

In such case you have to order the recovery disk;
Here you can do this;

First of all you should not open two threads about one and the same theme!

Secondly the procedure posted in the other thread and in this posting above describes how to install the Vista from the second HDD partition!!!

Press F8, choose repair my computer, choose Toshiba recovery from new opened window and follow the instruction on the screen.

After this procedure you will get the notebook like at the first day of purchase!

I have got a Toshiba laptop A300 and the function keys aren't working.
I'm sure its probably a simple problem to fix but I can't seem to find anything about it in the user manual.
The laptop works fine accept for this but this is a problem as we need these buttons to connect it to the projector.

Could anyone help???

Answer:Function keys not working on Satellite A300

Hmm? everything depends on the operating system which is preinstalled on your notebook.

If you use the Vista OS then you should firstly check if the Toshiba FlashCards are enabled. This tool is connected with the FN + F1-F9 button functionality.

If the Flashcards are already enabled then you should try to reinstall the Toshiba Vista Value added package.

Hi Folks,

I've inherited a A300 with issues.

When you turn the laptop on, the keyboard works at the BIOS level, but once it boots into windows the keyboard stops working. I've discovered that pressing the power button (suspending) and then turning the laptop back on brings the keyboard back. (This was under vista).

I've since performed a fresh installation of Windows 7 (removing all partitions from the drive) and the fault remains, I've also installed the Added Value Pack which hasn't helped.

Firmware was 1.6 - upgraded to 1.9; fault remains. I've restored factory settings at the BIOS level - fault remains.

I've installed a copy of Fedora 11 (Linux) which works perfectly.

Any ideas?

Answer:Satellite A300 - keyboard not working after coldstart.

I should have also mentioned that the touchpad didn't work either.

I've since disassembled the laptop, disconnected the touchpad and now the keyboard works flawlessly.

Suspected faulty touchpad - not too concerned since I prefer the external mouse anyhow :)

Hope this thread might help someone out in the future.

As the tiltle suggest.

My laptop is a Satelltie Pro A300 2C4.

The Touchpad no longer responds,

I have tried FN F9 - nothing happens.
I have tried pressing top left corner of Touchpad - nothing happens.
I have tried going to control panel mouse and looking for an enable Touchpad bit can only find the mouse defined.

The O/S is Windows 7

Answer:Satellite Pro A300 Touchpad has stopped working

Did you try to install the touchpad driver?
You can find the touchpad driver on the Toshiba EU driver page.

Additional tip: in some cases its possible to enable and disable touchpad in BIOS.
Please check this!

By the way: is an external USB mouse attached to the notebook? if yes, disconnect this and try to use the touchpad

Answer:Satellite A300 - atikmdag stopped working

If you are using the latest ATI Driver on the Toshiba Website, and you have ran Recovery to restore Windows back to its factory condition, then the error maybe caused by:

1) Hardware - The Graphics Card may have an intermittent fault. Send the notebook to a Toshiba Repair Center for repair.

2) Software - you may have software installed that isn't Vista compatible. The software may not be able to function in Vista's Aero/3D interface. Change the Theme to "Classic" or "Basic" and see how that goes.

I cannot even see the bios screen. The laptops normally, I don't hear any beeps while booting, just the fact that there is no display.

This laptop has a ATI M86 512MB graphics card. Its out of warranty.

Has any had similar experience. Is there any way to find out what the problem might be.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

I?m afraid there is an serious hardware problem with your notebook.
I looks like the graphic card problem.
Usually if the internal display would be faulty, you should see everything on the external display. Therefore I think you GPU is affected.

Hi there,

I'm hoping someone can help me. I have a Toshiba Satellite A300, and for some reason, some keys on the keyboard have stopped working. Even in safe mode, they don't work.

Everything else about the laptop works, and is in as new condition. It was working fine one day, then the next day not. If anyone has any ideas as to why this has happened, and how to fix it, I would be extremely greatful!!

Thanks heaps :)

Answer:Random keys not working Satellite A300

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what is wrong there but it sounds to me that some keys are simply defective for some reason. Best evidence is that they don?t even work in safe mode.

Do maybe arrow keys or space key also don?t work? If this is the case try please to use them in BIOS settings and let us know if the same happen there.

To be honest I?m afraid you will not be able to fix this and in worst case the keyboard must be replaced. It?s not a big deal. In 10 minutes keyboard can be exchanged.

Hey everyone,

I signed up here in the hopes that someone can help me with this.
I've literately tried everything I can think of and no idea what else to do.

My Satellite a300 crashed so I reinstalled vista x32 to get it back up again, everything works fine but whenever i reinstall an os i always check the device manager and i noticed where my display adapter is it says Standard VGA Graphics Adapter and the dreaded yellow exclamation mark.

It says code 10 and that it cannot start, I've tried check for solutions and updating the driver but nothings working.

My laptop seems to be running fine but when i happened to open movie maker to see if it was affected it gave me the message Windows Movie Maker is unable to start because your video card does not support the required level of hardware acceleration...

Now this is a laptop that i was running all kinds of games and video editing software on just two days ago...

Can anyone tell me what's wrong?

I cant see how my video card could suddenly not be good enough :(

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Just one simple question: Can you notice the same issue with ?factory settings??

I ask this because Windows 7 isn?t on the market as yet and so I assume that this problem will be caused from Windows 7. It would be nice to know if the same happens with preinstalled OS (Vista?).

Answer:Satellite A300 - DVD drive has stopped working

Try removing the CD/DVD Filters from the Registry.
When CD/DVD related software is installed (such as iTunes, Nero, virtual CD software), they install filters into the registry, which can cause compatibility problems.

1) Run Regedit (Start -> Run -> Regedit)
2) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
3) In the right pane, delete the "UpperFilters" key, and delete the "LowerFilters" key.
4) Reboot.

If your CD/DVD programs stop working, you will need to reinstall them (preferably with an updated version).

This utility can remove the filters for you:

Hi there

I have few looks round in various forums and did not find any answer at all.

I have the A300-1GC Satellite and had (since last night) vista on it. As Vista caused
an awful lot of problems with various programs I decided to get rid of it.

The problem now is - if I stick my XP installation CD it it reads "press any key to start from CD".
Done that and then nothing happens. The CD reading head keeps on moving backwards and forwards
but nothing happens at all. Not even the start of the blue installation screen.

Any ideas where that comes from?

Might the CD-rom also be running in AHCI mode (can a CD drive do that?) and requires drivers?
I tried various XP CDs - neither works. The latest one I had was with SP3 and build in Feb 2009 so fairly recent.

Any clues?

Answer:Problems with Satellite A300-1GC XP install - CD not working?

In your case the issue has nothing to do with SATA mode (AHCI or Compatible mode) but it look like the CD/DVD drive cannot handle the inserted Win XP disk?
Why? Who knows?

Fact is that the CD cannot be read and therefore the installation cannot get on.

Try to copy this disk using another computer and then you could try to use the copied disk on order to install the Win XP.

Just for info: I'm using TDK -R disks (CD and DVD)... I'm very satisfied
