I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite C855D Toshiba DVD player display suddenly stopped displaying

Sorry, but your positing is very confusing?
I have no idea what you changed in the past in the Toshiba DVD player settings but I think the easiest solution would be new installation of Toshiba DVD player Utility.

Usually you could download the Toshiba DVD player from the Toshiba EU driver page
Before installing this software, I recommend to uninstall the installed Toshiba DVD player.
Then reboot the notebook.
Download the tool from the Toshiba website and start the installation.
Finally reboot the notebook and test the functionality.

I went to use my laptop today, and I discovered that the touchpad has stopped working. In fact, I was unable to even get past the sign-on screen, and if it weren't for the fact that I got a mouse arrow with a plug-in USB mouse, the laptop would be completely dead to me.

My son uses the laptop for Minecraft gaming, but I don't think that has anything to do with this. Even a reboot didn't change anything. I wonder if a Windows update screwed something up (again)? I'm at a loss. I'm not always where I can set up a physical mouse to use - and frankly I don't want to have to.

Any suggestions?

Answer:My Toshiba Satellite touchpad suddenly stopped working

Found the solution. When I pressed the F5 button (not Fn + F5), I got a popup that said "touchpad disabled." When I pressed it again, it said "touchpad enabled." I unplugged my USB mouse and tried again, and it's now working. What a screwed up design that allows a user to accidentally disable one's touchpad with an accidental press of the F5 key. Then you have to research the problem before figuring out the problem. Someone in the Toshiba laptop design department should be fired.

I just recently bought a Toshiba Satellite C855D. Per the normal process when I buy a new pc, I started to update all the device's drivers. I however cannot seem to locate a driver for the Processor (AMD E-300 APU). I also updated the driver for the graphics card (AMD Radeon HD 6300) with the latest Catalyst Suite. During the install I received an error in a .xml report (See below). Everything in the report seemed to be fine except at the very bottom of the page it reads: "Driver Install: the specified driver package was not installed for matching devices". Yet when I go to Device manager under Display adapters it now reads "AMD Radeon HD 6310 Graphics" and the driver date is now 3/28/13. I'm mostly concerned with updating the Processors driver if possible but it would be nice to get some opinions on whether or not i will experience issues from the error during the Catalyst install (No problems at the moment).Catalyst? Answer:Drivers for Toshiba Satellite C855D

Laptop drivers should come only from the laptop manuf. site...The reason you are having issues is you are getting drivers based on the device...not the laptop itself.I'd DLoad and re-install all listed drivers for that PC from Toshiba's site.

Hi All,

I'm new to the site; just signed up because I need some major help (no pun intended).

I have a Toshiba Satellite C855d, which is using Windows 8 (8.1 now).

The graphics card is an AMD one.

The problem I have is nothing seems to work properly. The computer is slow and suffers slight freezing from time to time, Skype does not work properly, and none of the media players seem to work quite right. Also, none of the games I have run properly (these suffer most).

From what I seem to have read, a lot of programs just don't run properly on Windows 8. I don't know what I can or should do.

Any experience with these issues or advice?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite C855d & Windows 8 problem

Something else is going on. It does help if you stated the exact model of the laptop, then just stating that it is the AMD one. There are three different AMD APU/CPU's that Toshiba uses.

Download Speccy and post the URL that it gives after you run the software.

This laptop was bought from a private seller. I bought it online, these are the system specs. I tried to make a partition on the C drive and after restarting it, the only thing that popped up was an error screen that I can't get past. I did not make rescue disks for it I've tried to restore by pressing "0" (before I turn it on). I have tried to go the start up settings by pressing F8 but the screen just flickers.
What else can I do?

Do you mean you have rebooted and tapped F8 as it first starts to get into the Advance Tools menu?

If you need the laptop working again in a hurry, your quickest bet is to order replacement recovery DVDs directly from Toshiba. I'd guess they cost somewhere around $30 (including shipping, in US dollars).
_______________

If you can get to a Command Prompt in the Windows 8 Recovery Environment, you might be able to try a few tricks to get the boot files' location discovered by a tool that can repair such things.

You can borrow a "Windows 8 Repair drive " to help with your repair. Anyone who has a same-version Windows 8 computer of the same bit-depth as yours (64-bit or 32-bit) can make you one. All that needs to be done: from the Charms bar, select the Search icon, the click on Settings, then type in "Recovery drive", and select the "Create a recovery drive" icon. You can choose to create either a USB drive or a CD or DVD. The option to copy the entire recovery partition will require a larger capacity medium than not selecting that option (as little as 500mb or so will do for a basic recovery CD, DVD, or USB ... ).

... I apologize, it's getting very late here ... but I'll check back in the morning as see which route you'd like to go. And I can continue the advanced repair instructions then, if you want to try them.

Should you wish to continue researching the command line available tools, you can start with a webpage that gives a quick summary of the commands and utilities available from the command prompt --- How to use th... Read more

I have a Toshiba satellite C855D-S5315 it has a broken screen so I use a external monitor. There is a password on it (I keep trying to figure out how to get the Windows password to no longer be required but haven't yet). Sometimes it says the password is incorrect when you type the first letter of the password (without even giving you the chance to enter the rest of the password and the enter button). It did this two days ago (usually just restarting it will fix the issue... it did not work this time) so I ended up having to turn the computer off and then I tried to start it back up. Now all it will do is give me a black and white screen (the monitor is broken as I said before so it may have more on it but it is not showing up on the external monitor). It stays on for just a minute and then turns off unless I click on a couple of keys (any keys) then it will stay on but it will still not display on the external monitor. HELP please. This is my personal computer that I use for work and I cannot loose it or replace it.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite C855D-S5315 Laptop won't stay on

Well while the monitor could be going (the external one) and need to be replaced as well, the 'password' can't be coming from the monitor. It has to be coming from the laptop. So you need to be checking the settings on the laptop.

You may well need to just go and replace the original laptop screen to make this all work correctly. But all information that would show on the original monitor would also show on the external one. Just being external would not make things not be there.

Have you tried plugging in a different external one (maybe borrow one to test with) and see if it works? If it does, then the external one you have is the problem. If it doesn't, then there is more wrong with the laptop than just the monitor and it is going to really need to be looked at. If you are comfortable doing that yourself, you can find tons of how to videos online. If you are not, then I suggest taking it to a local tech or repair shop.

NOTE: If the laptop is still under warranty, you should contact the manufacturer first, before anyone tampers with it. SO you don't void the warranty.

I have Satellite L300 and Vista Home Premium installed.

When I try to open DVD player it says: "Toshiba DVD has stopped working. Trying to find solution for this program."

It was working before. I watched 3 movies on it and then it just stoped for no known reason.

Don't want to reinstall if not necessary.

Answer:Satellite L300 - Toshiba DVD player stopped working

Hi

> Don't want to reinstall if not necessary.
I?m not quite sure why the software stopped working but I think it?s advisable to reinstall it.
You should firstly remove the old software (Toshiba player).
Then you should download the newer DVD player version from the Toshiba European driver page and should reinstall it.

Check it out!

I also did a check on the desktop assist menu and on the test it came out for the screen card that something was wrong. Abit worried ofc that im not getting this sorted since im trying to get some papers written due this weekend?.and that I got some bad luck bying this pc?
I just hope it is something I forgot to do since this is a new pc.

Hi, I listen to internet radio and watch internet tv (streamed) through Media Player. A few weeks ago I could suddenly not listen to radio anymore, fortunately the site lets me choose between different players so I can still listen through Quicktime. Yesterday afternoon I watched a television show without problems but when I tried it yesterday evening all of a sudden it didn't work anymore. Unfortunately this site (nor all the other ones) does not give me the option to choose another player. I tried it again this morning but it still didn't work. I've tried it on another pc and it worked just fine.

What has happened to my pc and how can I solve it...?

Any comment is appreciated!

Answer:Media Player suddenly stopped working

Have you tried System Restore and restoring the PC back to a date when it did work? If not, give that a try first. System Restore can be accessed from Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools.

For no apparent reason my CD/DVD has stopped wanting to burn CDs. No matter what I do it refuses to recognise any blank disk, even though I have been doing this regularly with the same brands for ages - until today.

The drives (I have two, a Pioneer DVD-RW and a TSST Corp CDDVDW) also stopped playing music CDs today at the same time but I got a Fixit from the MS site and they will now do this, albeit not properly. I.e. the drives are configured to automatically use Windows Media Player when presented with a music CD but they don't - they don't even spin up. If I manually open WMP and go to Menu/Play it says there are no disks loaded. But if I then just open and shut the tray the track list shows up after about 15 seconds and the disk will play ok. So things aren't quite right still...

I have been in device manager and right clicked on both CDDVD players and tried to update the drivers but in both cases it said the latest ones were installed.

Not sure where to turn now. I can't burn disks and can only play music CDs if I coax things gently...

I have a Toshiba C855D laptop that I am trying to reinstall Windows 7 from a CD on because I recently got I a CBT Blocker encrypt virus on it. All my files are backed up so I'm just trying to reinstall Windows 7 on it to start from scratch but I have a very peculiar problem. When I start up the computer my keyboard does not work so that I cannot even put in my password. But by experimenting I discovered something: I have a USB mouse hooked up to it and with the mouse I put the computer on hybernate and when I take it out of hybernate then the keyboard works fine (quick note here: when the keyboard is working the light on the "number lock" key is on and when the keyboard is not working the light is off). So here is my problem: when I restart the computer to reboot it from disc (by pressing F12 key) the menu comes up for me to reinstall Windows 7 but I cannot navigate the menu because the keyboard does not work (the light I mentioned before turns off on restart) and the USB mouse does not work either because apparently it is disabled for a Windows 7 reinstall from disk. Is it that I need a new keyboard but if so then why does it work fine when I bring it back from hybernate? Can someone please help me with this?

Answer:Toshiba C855D Keyboard not working

The quick solution might be a usb keyboard. otherwise...

When you initially boot up you should get a bios screen that says press F2 for setup. Do so, for two reasons: to find out if the kb is working in DOS mode, and then when you are in the bios go to the options tab and select ~load default options~. then Accept changes and let it reboot.

The usb mouse should have been working in WinRE.

I've bought this Lenovo R400 laptop about 1 month ago and been using it every day since then. Yesterday, when laptop was just powered on and standing in idle, all - LCD display and LEDs on the lid were gone. Now I can boot up laptop with external monitor connected via d-sub - it works. Only thing that is not working is internal laptop display with it's LEDs except ThinkLight LED. I can turn the light on right after switching power on. Is that a common problem? Is this problem solved by repairing or replacing a laptop with a new one? I would bring a device to the shop I've purchased it for a warranty service today in the very morning, but in my country there's a holiday today and shops are closed. How long should warranty service last till I get my laptop back to work?

Answer:R400 display suddenly stopped working

so the internal LCD does not work at all?

what is the model/type number of your R400?

Repair time depends on the parts availability, but usually lenovo aim for a 5 business days turn around in most countries. However, if there is a shortage of parts, this could take around 1 month.

Hello Would like to help but first what is the specific model of your PC? Dirty PC is not good to begin with. Upgrading from Windows Vista, amazed the upgrade worked, to Windows 10 is another snag in finding the problem. Suggest you try going back to Windows Vista and diagnose problem with factory operating system. Do you have HP recovery discs for Windows Vista? Maybe you can start there to find problem. Grzy

Hi,

I have been searching in several forums but have not been able to fully fix this problem. It was fixed temporarily and failed again.
This the system I have:

HP TouchSmart tx2 tablet pc with Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (Home Premium) x 64 bit
AMD Turion (tm) X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile ZM-82, 2.2 GHz
ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics

I have been working for over a year with an external display Dell ST2310 flat screen monitor and working fine with the "use external display only" setting . From one minute to the other both screen went black so I forced a restart and again the same problem. I decided to manually disconnect the external display by unplugging the VGA cable from the laptop which automatically switched back to the main display as it would if I disconnected the display. When I plugged the VGA cable back in again the same issue both screens were fully black. I disconnected once again the VGA cable so I could change the settings in Windows Mobility. I plugged back in the VGA cable after changing the settings from "external display only" to "mirror monitors" and after playing for a bit with the Windows Mobility Center I got the external display to work back again to my regular settings: "external display only". This solution lasted for a day and now the main display works and the external display screen is fully black.

Solutions I have tried unsuccessfully:
- Changed VGA cables, still experiencing the same issue.
- Tested monitor ... Read more

I got a RAM upgrade for my laptop 2 weeks ago. I got 2 Kingston 2GB RAM sticks. A few hours after installing the RAM, my laptop would begin to crash after restarting, sometimes as soon as 5 seconds upon startup. After some trial and error, I found that one of the sticks was faulty and sent it back. The next day, my audio died suddenly while in use, but worked after restarting the laptop. This happened again the next 2 days. The fourth day, the audio outright died. The most I got was a low thumping upon startup. I tried updating my drivers and the only thing that "upgraded" was the fact that now I got a constant high-pitched noise through my speakers. It was constant and continued even after plugging in headphone and muting the volume. The only way I found to stop it was to disable the High Definition Audio Controller, though I have to "enable" then "disable" it whenever I power on my laptop.
The only other problem with my laptop lately is I seem to have a slight lag online (skipping youtube videos and such). I have connected my latop online on multiple servers, so I know it is coming from my laptop. I don't know if my soundcard/chip/whatever I have inside is fried, burnt or loose as I'm more of a software person then hardware.

I have a Toshiba laptop, and it suddenly stopped working,

i mean when it's on, I can only see a black screen with the letters

password=**********************

I don?t know who did it , but there is nothing written in the manual I even tried the restore cd which comes with the laptop.
Nothing works at all; i even tried some backdoor passwords

I opened the laptop but didn?t find any kind of battery, there is only one big battery,
How does the bios battery look like?

Answer:Satellite A50-110 suddenly stopped working

Hi

Are you sure this is a BIOS password?
There are two possible passwords: HDD password and BIOS password
Are you able to access the BIOS? You could access the BIOS pressing the ESC button.

Anyway, if this is a BIOS password then you will be not able to remove it without the ASP help.
The BIOS password cannot be removed like on the desktop PCs! The procedure is different?

It?s really strange that the notebook ask for a password if you didn?t set it but as I said above, only the ASP could remove such password.

The web cam on my Satellite L850 has suddenly stopped working.

It does not appear in Device Manager;
I've downloaded the latest driver from the Toshiba site;
I've checked BIOS and the web cam is enabled;
Still when I open the web cam application I get the following message:

'webcam initialization failed please restart application and check camera device'

I've scoured the forum boards and short of a back up and reboot from HDD, I can find no reasonable answers. I can't back up as I'm away from home so that's out of the question. I need web cam to conference call/call my family back in UK.

Tired of going around in circles and getting nowhere.

I have EXACTLY the same pb. The camera suddenly stopped working on a brand new computer although I used the camera the day before with skype. I reinstalled the drivers (32 and 64 bits), checked the BIOS but the camera does not appear in the device manager. I even reinstall the Antivirus in case it would have something to do with it...
When I try to use the TOSHIBA WebCam application, nothing happens and no message is displayed.
Let's hope it is not an hardware issue...

Hi everyone,

I have a proble: yesterday when I tried to make a call using Skype I found out that my voice cannot be heard. I tried to use other headset, however, it didn't work either. I tried to use sort of Win XP built-in utility for testing sound hardware in sound manager, but it didn't react to.

I installed Sound Forge package to check on some advanced record system - but no result to.

I reinstalled sound and, then, chipset driver - no result. I reinstalled Windows, but I am facing the same problem again. What can be the possible problem? And are there any possible ways for of solution withour help of hardware engineers.
P.S. My laptop is Toshiba L40-12K, OS - Win XP 12K,.

P.P.S. I haven't tryied USB headset, i used to use usual ones, for microphone-audio jacks.

Answer:Microphone suddenly stopped working on Satellite L40-12K

Before you contact service install original recovery image with Vista and test it.
If everything works well than it is some configurations problem.
Check it out!

About a week ago my Fn+F5 hot key suddenly stopped showing any alternative display types. Now all I have is one option : LCD.
Since then I have tried everything I can think of : Boot with S-Video cable plugged in
Update to latest NVidia Go drivers
Update Bios
(always fully patched on windows update)
There are no BIOS settings for S-Video.

I have tried forcing the external display in the NVidia control panel with no luck.
I noticed that about a week ago a Toshiba update came through windows update - ACPI update. I tried rolling back the driver and that made no difference either. There was no option to uninstall this update, rather I had to go into system and find the item under system devices and roll it back.

I can only think that this or another windows update has done it, though there were no other relevant updates. Just malicious tool updates.

This is driving me round the bend. Has anyone else had this problem or know how to resolve it? I cant watch anything on my TV anymore and I would rather not do a factory re-install.

Answer:Fn+F5 Suddenly stopped working on Satellite A series

Hi

Without clean OS installation it will be problematic to find out why this happen. We can just speculate here but it is not easy to say for sure what the problem can be. As far as I know more switch options are available if notebook ?recognizes? that some external device is connected.
Obviously external device is not recognized properly.

It will be interesting to know which notebook model you have. Have you tested FN+F5 option with external monitor connected to VGA port?

Hi all, hope someone can help or advise me on what to do.
My Pro M10 has suddenly stopped booting or reaching POST.
When power switch is pressed green light comes on and stays on and thats about it, no display and not even the fan spins up. :(

Funny thing is the battery still charges and is fine.
As you know this model is well out of warranty now and i am technically minded and taken laptops apart before so i don't mind opening up my machine.

Just thought i would ask here first before i do.
Hope someone can point me in the right direction of whats wrong, have heard a rumour that the M10's have a video fault but surely this wouldnt stop the machine POST'ing still would it.

Many thanks
JayZ

Answer:Satellite Pro M10 has suddenly stopped booting or reaching POST

Hi Jay,

Difficult to pin-point your problem remotely as you will appreciate, however, I would expect the notebook to either issue a series of beeps (in a long-short type of pattern) or else flash the AC led to give some clue as to the reason for the POST failure.

As a first step I would try removing/reseating the RAM modules, the Hdd and also the optical drive to see if this improves the situation. Failing this I would tend to suspect a mainboard failure.

Hi - the touch pad on my Satellite Pro L870-18G (Windows 8) has suddenly stopped working (after less than 2 months' use) - which makes the laptop rather difficult to use. According to the device manager there is nothing wrong with the driver - but I tried to reinstall anyway (didn't help).
Do these things normally suddenly fail?

Why does the device manager say there is no problem when there quite clearly is?

About two weeks ago I placed my laptop down on the ground. When I picked it up two minutes later, there was an error on the screen which read something like "There is a problem with the cooling system, please contact your nearest Toshiba centre." Since then, the cooling fan has not worked.

I replaced the fan with a different one which also didn't work, so perhaps the problem is the system not the fan? Is there some setting within the system that allows me to manually turn the fan on and off?

Answer:Re: Satellite L550 - Cooling fan suddenly stopped working

> I replaced the fan with a different one
So that means you replaced it with another model?
Well, I think another fan model will never work because notebooks are specific products designed for certain series/models only. So you can?t change everything as on desktop computers.

In my opinion you should contact nearest authorized service provider. The guys can replace the fan and order a new one. If your notebook is under warranty, the repair will be for free. :)

I have a Satellite C855-1J2 running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1. I turned it on on the 21st December 2012 and installed five applications - the latest versions of Firefox, CeltX, Notepad++, Open Office and Microsoft Security Essentials (I removed McAfee). I also got all the latest Windows Updates. Since then I have not installed any other applications.

For three days afterwards, my laptop was running fine until, suddenly, the speakers stopped working. I can identify the exact incident which caused it. I had plugged in a pair of perfectly ordinary headphones using the standard headphone jack socket, powered the laptop down after I had finished listening but left the headphones plugged in.

When I turned the laptop back on the next day, no sound came from the headphones.
When I unplugged them, no sound came from the speakers.
I rebooted my machine and the speakers worked fine.

However, I am now in a position where every time I turn my laptop on, the speakers do not work and they will only function again when I next reboot. A little investigation of this problem shows the following...

Whenever I turn my laptop on and go to Control Panel->Hardware and Sound->Manage Audio Devices I see two items:

1) "Speakers - High Definition Audio Device - Not plugged in" with a greyed out speaker icon with a red arrow.

2) "Digital Audio (S/PDIF) - High Definition Audio Device - Default device" with a coloured external amplifier icon (looks a bit l... Read more

Answer:Satellite C855 - Speakers suddenly stopped working

Hi

The issue you have described above looks to me like the speakers would not be chosen as ?default? device but the Digital Audio (S/PDIF).
Somehow the sound driver cannot detect the speakers from the first system boot.

I have no idea why this happened but I?ve got two proposals:

*1)* Uninstall the sound driver from the system. Download the newest sound driver from Toshiba page and install it after the notebook has been rebooted first.

*2)* If sound driver installation does not help, last resort would be the system recovery.

Answer:Satellite L850 has suddenly stopped running Apps

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what the problem can be. Try as first step to roll back OS to earlier time using system restore tool. Maybe this will fix it.

If not let us know.

Have you done something that could be responsible for this? Have you installed something or changed some settings?
One more thing: when you start notebook in safe mode can you start any application?

Hi,

I own an A300 19T Toshiba, model PSAJ4E that I've been using for over 1 year and a half. Yesterday, I just booted it, started working for like 5 min and all of the sudden it ceased functionning and remained silent. I didn't go through the shutdown process or anything software based process, just a hard shutdown. I don't even have the power led indicator on anymore. I suspected the power brick being the issue, took it and plugged it into another laptop and was good (the power led came up). It's definitley about my laptop.

So I'm writing to ask you guys: What can cause the power indicator on my laptop not to switch on, when I plug the DC jack? Is it something related to the charge circuit in my laptop? Is it the motherboard which I have to change? How can I get a better diagnostic? I there any manual/process for troubleshooting my issue? My goal is to know exactly what went wrong.

By the way, I have the necessary skills to apply any basic manual procedures. I'm able to take my laptop apart (down to the motherboard) and reassemble it.

Thanks!

Ilyes Gouta.

Answer:Re: Satellite A300-19T suddenly stopped working (power led is off)

Hi,

it's look like the power supply electronic malfunction that is part of motherboard. I don't think, you can fix it yourself, in the most cases the whole motherboard should be replaced.

Hi.

I bought this laptop last month in November.
Anyways, around a week or two ago, the sound suddenly wouldn't work.

It started making weird noises when I put in headphones, and the speakers just made no noise at all ever.
I did lots of weird things -- such as system restore, re-installing sound drivers but nothing worked until I updated the bios then everything went fine and the sound worked again.

However, today, the sound just suddenly stopped working again. I tried to re-install the current bios but InsydeFlash says, "The version of the ROM file is the same version of the BIOS" and just closes.

I searched the internet for an older version of the bios but when I try to install it, InsydeFlash says, "The version of ROM file isn't newer than version of BIOS" and of course I know that but then it closes too!

I'm not really good at computers or anything so any help at all would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Answer:Satellite C650 - sound just suddenly stopped working

Hi

I recommend checking some options firstly;
- check if mute is not enabled
- check if all volume controls are set to higher value
- check if sound would appear using headphones

If this would not be successful, then you should reinstall the sound driver.
Firstly go to device manager and uninstall the sound driver. Reboot the unit
Then download the sound driver from Toshiba page and install it again. Reboot once again and test the sound.

Dear reader,

Two days a go, out of the blue, my laptop doesn't give me any sounds over the speakers anymore. I've never had this problem and it is really a burden for me.
Actions I've taken so far:
- Check whether sound works with headphones - it does.
- Reinstall Realtek HD audio driver from realtek website - done, no changes
- Reinstall Audio Driver from Toshiba website - done, no changes
- Even updated the ATI HD sound driver - done, no changes

The model I'm using is the Satellite C855-255.7

The reason I'm not directly assuming my soundcard is broken/corrupted is the fact that through headphones, the audio works fine.

I would like to get suggestions for more actions to take, or a link/description of a fix for my problem.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Wouter Pol

Answer:Satellite C855-255 sound suddenly stopped working

It is really strange that for no apparent reason speakers stopped working. In my opinion it has nothing to do with sound card or preinstalled sound driver.

When you start some music on your PC and open sound properties > playback device what is the status of the speakers there? Be sure entry speakers is not disabled.

Hi,
I have a Satellite L50Dt-A, part no. PSKM2A. It is running Windows 8.1.

Last night the touch pad suddenly stopped working, no curser on the screen.
The little mouse indicator on the touch pad wasn't and still isn't glowing.
So I've pressed the Fn F5 button so many times, but that hasn't turned it back on.

I went to the mouse properties in the control panel, and under hardware there is nothing listed.
In the device manager, there is nothing under mouse either.
So I went to the Toshiba site and downloaded the driver for the touchpad.

However, on installing, it said it can't because the computer already has one.
I need to uninstall it and reinstall.
However, I can't find the original synaptics touchpad driver anywhere to uninstall.

Everything is updated through windows update, and I have ran the trouble shooting tools, and have restarted, and nothing so far has worked.

I have since plugged in an external mouse so I can use that.
But I would love my touchpad mouse working again.

Any help you can give me would be much appreciated.

Thank you

Hello,

I have a Toshiba Satellite L300 with a built in 2.0 USB camera and a windows 7 operating system, the camera suddenly stopped working since about 2-3 weeks ago with unknown reason!

I already tried system restore, un-installing and re-installing the camera driver, preformed a full scan by kaspersky internet antivirus 2012 (up to date), and I also ran a complete system and drivers troubleshooting ... and the problem still exists ...

When I use the windows live movie maker it gives me an error saying: can?t record audio or video from the selected device. Make sure that the device you're trying to use is installed properly and not currently in use by another program.

The microphone works well on skype but the camera doesn't open!
Please tell me how to fix it, what am I missing?

Answer:Satellite L300 - Built In webcam suddenly stopped working

> I already tried system restore

Did you recover the unit using Recovery disk from Toshiba?
In such case the cam should work?

Otherwise I would say it?s hardware related issue.

Some users here in the forum reported an webcam issue and the reason for that was an lose connection between the cam module and motherboard.
The webcam is connected to an USB controller on the motherboard.
If the connection does not exist, the webcam would not appear in device manager? does it appear in your case? Check this?

My Sat L300 suddenly stopped working the other day.

It kept freezing to start with, then nothing at all. So, I kill-disked the HDD and tried to re-install Windows (XP).
During the install it threw up a message that some internal components had been incorrectly installed and needed to be reinstalled.
I was told to remove the memory cards and re-seat them.

That did not work. I thought that perhaps the HDD was damaged, so I fitted a new one, and started to reinstall Windows.
Once again, same message. One of my colleagues at work suggested that the Motherboard was probably U/S.

So I have been trawling the .net to find a replacement. Laptop out of warranty! I am told that some other serial numbered motherboards will work with this laptop. Don't really want to get a motherboard only to find its never going to work! My unit has an SPS number of: V000138330.
I am being offered one with an SPS of: V000138390.

Any ideas? Will this one work?
And if it does, will it give me the functionality that I used to enjoy?!
Sorry for the long sob story.

Any advice gratefully accepted.

Hi friends,

My satellite c640, internal speakers suddenly stopped working but works fine when earphones or any external sources are connected
Is it a hardware problem?

I?m using win 7 64bit and I tried to install drivers but seems to be a hardware problem

Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite C640 internal speakers suddenly stopped working

Hi

I?m not sure if this is a hardware problem.
You may have to check some settings.

In control panel -> sound -> playback tab.
There you should see the speakers chosen as default device.
You can also click right on these speakers and you should see some options:
? speaker configuration
? test
? disable
? and so on?.

Test the speaker firstly. In my case some short bell sound appears. You can also mark the speaker and click on Properties button. There you will see a second window with some tabs. Check the second tab called LEVEL. There you can change the sound level.

What happen exactly when you try to reinstall sound driver? Do you get any errors?

Hi all, n00b to laptops and first post. Ok, I usually build and repair desktops, so much easier to gain aceess!!
My daughter switched on her A30 laptop last night and only 2 keys worked. Tried rebooting and getting into BIOS but couldnt. Tried getting it to boot into safe mode, only the up and down arrow working so could not select safe mode...doh. Am guessing this must be a harware problem.

Rebooted into Xp an opened up notepad....this time about 5 keys working. Reboot, 3 key etc etc.

How do I get to the ribbon cable to make sure it is seated properly. Is it common for a keyboard to fail in this way and is it easy to get a replacement?
At the mo, have all the small screws I can find out, removed battery, DVD rom and hard drive. Seems to be held towards the middle and rear. Dont want to force it and break something else!

TIA.

Answer:Satellite A30 keyboard suddenly stopped working - how to remove and replace?

OK, so I had to laugh....flip the little cover on the top of the laptop and there are the 2 screws that hold the keyboard in place....lol

The ribbon cable was just about in its connector. Pushed it in and engaged the two locking tabs on the plastic retainer...job done!
Put it back together, fired up and Bingo! we have a keyboard again!

Oh well, may help someone else I guess.
Now she has no excuse for not doing her homework!

Hello Toshiba People,

I have been using Satellite A665-14F PSAW3E over 2 years and I didn't really have any problem with my web camera till today. I suddenly realized (when I entered a website requiring webcam) that my webcam is not working. (It has been working perfectly). My laptop stopped seeing the built-in webcam.

First I checked the "device manager" to find and check the driver of it but I couldn't find the webcam. Actually I don't know under which category in the device manager I am supposed to see it. After that, I uninstalled the Toshiba Webcam Application from the "add/remove program" thing of Windows. I found the driver+application package of the webcam of my laptop from the European website of Toshiba and installed it. It asked me to reboot both after the uninstallation and installation. I did both times. It is still not fixed. Plus, now the blue light right next to the webcam (that is supposed to be turned on when the webcam is active) is constantly turned on, which is really annoying...

The only other detail that I can give you guys is that I realized that I have one "Unknown device" with a yellow triangle error icon on it under the category of "Universal Serial Bus controllers". Could it be related with my problem, like if the webcam is also USB related hardware? Cause I believe this unknown driver showed up in the same day with my webcam problem.

Thanks in advance to anyone for his/her time. (I use win7-64... Read more

Answer:Satellite A665-14F - Built-in Webcam suddenly stopped working

>The only other detail that I can give you guys is that I realized that I have one "Unknown device" with a yellow triangle error icon on it under the category of "Universal Serial Bus controllers".

I assume this is the internal webcam.
The webcam module is connected to the USB controller on the motherboard and the yellow exclamation mark means that webcam software was not installed properly.

In your case I recommend firstly:
1) Uninstall the webcam software again
2) Delete the unknown device from Universal Serial Bus controllers in device manager (mark it and press del )
3) Install CCLeaner tool can clean the registry and system
4) Reboot the notebook and install the webcam software once again.

Good luck

Hi,

I installed Tempro V1.2 on a satellite A200. Tempro tell me that I have 12 alerts but when I click at description of the alert,
I have in french an error message witch tell me that tempro stopped: 'Tempro a cess de fonctionner).

Have you an idea to resolve this problem?

Regards.

Answer:Toshiba tempro has stopped on Satellite A200

Maybe you should remove the Tempro software firstly, and then should clean the OS using the CCleaner and then you should install the new Tempro software on your system.

But just one hint: the Tempro sends only a message to you if a new driver or tool was uploaded on the Toshiba driver page.
In my opinion it?s not really necessary? it runs always in the OS background and needs hardware recourses? I had this tool but I removed it from the OS.

Hello,

First of all, I would like to underline the fact that, even if I bought my laptop in France, my model is not in the suport list.

My problem is very easy, it's been few weeks that we get a message asking us to turn off the laptop and to send it back to support. My girlfriend didn't read it, so after a month I got the news.
After few investigation, I found out some strange behaviour with GPU-Z :

7520G :
temperature between 114? and 136?.
load : 0%

7610M :
Temperature around 80?
Fan speed 30%

I would like to know if it's normal, or if one fan was disconnected on top of the 7520G GPU.

I'm in Romania for work for few month, so I'm trying to find a solution that would not involve going to the support. I took a 3 year warranty, but I'm not sure it works here.

Best regards,
Pierre

Answer:GPU 136° on Satellite C855D-10R

You have European EMEA notebook model and you will get support in Europe.
If you want to check status of the warranty and see if your notebook is registered check it please on http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/unitdetails/

I don't know which support site you have checked but on every support site/download page you need to know notebook?s part number. Using C855D-10R model name you will not find it but using data as model C855D and part number PSKD4E you should find it.

To be honest your notebook should be checked by nearest service. Using third part software you can get some info but I don't know if listed hardware check data are 100% exact.

Have you noticed that your notebook is extremely hot? Usually, when hardware temperature reach critical level notebook shuts-off from alone.

Anyway, try to contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

I would purchase a can of compressed air or use an air compressor (with a light gentle nozzle) and blow the dust out of the inside. If you have a failed cooling fan, then it will need to be repaired or replaced. That model I think is rather old, it may not be worth it to repair.

Sometimes its advisable to read other threads where the same question has been already asked.

There was an similar question for Satellite C850D.
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=73956

Both models Satellite C850D and C855D support the same chipset and the same CPU therefore Francesco?s info should apply to your notebook model too.

As mentioned in other thread: the CPU upgrade is not supported by notebook manufacturers and such upgrade can be done only at your own risk without any further guarantee that notebook would run properly after such CPU exchange

Answer:Re: New Satellite C855D-13T without any programs

Some notebooks Toshiba offers without preinstalled OS. According notebook specification your notebook is delivered without preinstalled recovery image so you must install everything on your own.

All necessary drivers, tools and utilities you can download from Toshiba support page http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp

Check it out. If you need some assistance let us know.

Hello everybody,

I've got a problem with my laptop, a satellite C855D-135.

I made a mistake during a recovery, and i don't have any recovery left (no recovery partition left, no option to use recovery in the boot menu - F12 when starting computer).

i read that the windows Key is in the BIOS, and i tried to get the key back, and i obtained a key with a tool found on the internet.

I tried to install different version of windows 8, but i wasn't able to activate windows after installing it:

i heard about a windows 8 version which is supposed to activate automatically at the first utilisation of it, looking for the key directly in the BIOS. which version is it, and where can i find it ?

I tried :

A windows 8 RTM version, but i wasn't able to activate it (error 0xC004C032) and windows is defined like "enterprise evaluation"

A windows 8 "classical" version, and i used the key that i've founded before to install it without any trouble, but the activation didn't work because of the key.

What could i do to install my laptop ?

What version am i supposed to install ?

(I don't want to BUY the recovery DVD, and i think it's a shame to sell recovery DVD ....)

if anyone could help me it could be Great !

Thanks for reading me :)

Answer:Windows 8 and Satellite C855D-135

> I don't want to BUY the recovery DVD, and i think it's a shame to sell recovery DVD
To be honest I don?t understand why do you think on this way. Preinstalled OS is bundled on notebook and you buy it in the package. At the same time in the price is also included valid license for usage.
You can install recovery image 1000 times and every time it will be activated so the best option for you is usage of recovery image, especially because installation and usage is user friendly and easy for installation.

Due to all this I strongly recommend you to order original recovery disc. It costs a bit but you will have OS, all necessary drivers, Toshiba tools and utilities and also some additional software, all in one package.

If you don?t want to do it all you can do is to install own OS version and buy new license for it.

I have a Blue Screen Of Death (less blue with Windows 8) very often, and when the computer reboot it can't find the HDD, I have to push the power button till it's cut and if I'm lucky, it find the HDD while rebooting.

I try to repair with the Windows 8 Tools but nothing change and it's the same BSOD when I try to install Windows 7 or Ubuntu.

Did I have to send my computer to support?

Answer:Satellite C855D-12j - BSOD and HDD not available

Set BIOS to default settings and reinstall Win8 again. Test it and if he same problem occurs again I strongly recommend you to contact nearest authorized Toshiba service provider. It is new notebook with valid warranty so it should be fixed for you.

BSOD can be related to hardware or even software problems so if ?factory settings? don?t help I think service should check it.

Hi,

Recently every singly time I use my Toshiba Satellite A500 I get an error message 'Toshiba Service Station stopped responding'.

1) I start up the computer. All good.
2) I go into internet explorer, ms word or ms excel (my three most frequently used apps)
3) In the process of that app coming up I get this error message.
4) The error message sits for about about 30 seconds to a minute. Then the program continues it's start up process and I can continue working without further issues.

While nothing serious appears to have happened it is extremely annoying (especially when you are in a hurry). What could be the reason for this error message and what can I do to fix it?

Thanks!

Answer:Satellite A500 - Toshiba Service Station stopped responding

To be honest I don?t know why this happen but what I can say is that this application is not so important and you can remove it from the system. I have done the same and I?m not missing it at all.

Hi,

I was using Toshiba Button Controls (play/pause, stop, back/forward buttons) with Winamp and was perfect (but the FN+f2,f5,f6,f7,f8 and f9 were not working but i didn't mind) on my Satelitte A200.

But two days ago i have updated the BIOS to the newest version and the FN command started to work but the play, stop and b/f buttons are not working anymore (tried with Media Player too).

I have reinstalled the control drivers and is the same thing.

Do you have any idea how could i solve this problem?

Thx

Answer:Satellite A200 - Toshiba Controll Buttons stopped working

Hello

Have you only reinstalled the Toshiba controls driver or controls software too?
I think you should try to reinstall both applications.

So remove both applications in Add or Remove programs. After this restart the notebook and use CCleaner to remove still existing files from these programs and restart the notebook again.
Then install the Controls driver first and then Controls software.
Usually the driver must always been installed first.

Check this!!

And I can not use the Software HD DVD player or other Software from Toshiba.

Answer:Satellite P200D-134 - can not use the Toshiba DVD player

Hi

Did you install the VAP (value added package)?
If not do that!!!

Furthermore I recommend installing the DVD Player Update Check Tool which can be found on the Toshiba European driver page.
With this tool, you can check your notebook, if your DVD-Player needs a Upgrade and if yes, it gives you the download link for the needed upgrade version.

By the way: If you cannot find the DVD Player for Win 7 in P200D section then you can download this from the P500 section!

My Satellite Pro series L laptop came with windows and an upgrade to Win 7, which I'm now running. I've tried to play a disc which I burned on a past comptuer, but am told it's the wrong region (huh?) - my region is set to 4. So I've given up on that for the nonce and switched to the Toshiba DVD player.
When I try to open it, I get a message that module(s) is/are missing. If restart doesn't work, re-install application.

How do I do this?
TIA

Answer:Satellite L - Can't access Toshiba DVD player

Hi billym,

Normally you can download a newer version of DVD Player on official Toshiba website if you search for available downloads for your notebook model:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com

But if you have a DVD with another region code you have to change the region code of your CD/DVD drive (device manager > Properties of CD/DVD drive).

But don?t forget that region code can only be changed 4 times?

Hi,

I recently reformatted my p850/049 for windows 7. I tried to install the Toshiba Blu-Ray Disc player V1.0.3.196A, the file didn't work at all and when I tried to install it manually "cannot find player in your system. Installation Aborted". On the download page it is listed as a patch, but where do I find the original file? I have SP1 Windows 7 pro 64 bit, all up do date as of 24th May 2013

I found V1.0.5.110 from the US version of the Toshiba support site and this installed and does play DVD's and it tries to open a Blu-Ray but it gets stuck on blank screen and doesn't play or allow me to do anything like skip scene or go to the menu. There's no error message complaining about region or corrupt files or anything it just goes to a blank screen, with the controls available but they don't do anything. As I said dvd's work perfectly, just not blu-rays.

The player itself seems to function normally on this screen and when you try to click buttons it comes up with a circle with a line through it when you try and click buttons like a normal dvd player if you tried to skip through the copyright warnings and the time index is always a small number ie 25 seconds or so. As if it were trying to play a small segment like the copyright section or something.

Yes, this is a patch file and you cannot install this without having installed an full version.

Hey everyone.

I own a C855D-13N laptop, which has 6GB of RAM, alongside an AMD E1 1.4GHz dual core processor.
Now, I know what you're thinking. Same. 6GB of RAM and such a bad CPU? Well, this is how it has been purchased
so blame it on whoever assembled it.

I have been browsing through Google, but couldn't find a solution on how to upgrade my CPU, and how to find one that
will fit with the motherboard. This is why I decided that I will ask you guys.

All help is greatly appreciated, in advance.

Hi,

Can anyone help please?

My keyboard has had problems in the past and it was sent to Germany for repairs.
It came back but after a short while, the keyboard problem has re-appeared.
When typing to access webpages etc loads of programs are opened as if , I think it's called, a macro program has assigned hotkeys.

I have used on-screen keyboard to overcome this but that's inaccessible now.
Has anyone come across this problem before?
Is there a program to get rid of these hotkeys problem?

Thanks in anticipation.

Answer:Hotkey issue on Satellite C855D-13N

> When typing to access webpages etc loads of programs are opened as if , I think it's called, a macro program has assigned hotkeys.

What key(s) did you press exactly?

You can control different notebook features pressing different F (F1-F10) keys (also in connection with FN key): for example you can enable or disable the touchpad or you can change the display brightness.
Do you mean these keys?

At the other hand windows OS supports a feature called ?Ease of Access center?.
Within the ?Ease of Access Center? you can adjust these settings to "Make the keyboard easier to use"

Navigate to Control Panel and click on Ease of Access center, and find the link for ?Make the keyboard easier to use?. Once you are there, you?ll want to make sure the boxes for ?Turn on Sticky Keys? or ?Turn on Filter Keys? are turned off?which simply means the feature isn?t active at the moment.

Also you?ll have to click on either ?Set up Filter Keys? or ?Set up Sticky Keys? (or both). Disable Filter Keys Popup. If you went to the Filter Keys setup screen, remove the checkbox from ?Turn on Filter Keys when right SHIFT is pressed for 8 seconds?. To disable Sticky Keys Popup, uncheck the box for ?Turn on Sticky Keys when SHIFT is pressed five times?.

Recommend you to check this Microsoft article regarding this feature:

Answer:Satellite C855D-160 and Windows 10 drivers

In my opinion Toshiba will offer Win10 drivers when Microsoft starts to offer it official on the market and when the first notebooks will be offered with Win10.

You can upgrade your machine and I hope you will not have some big issues. Before you do this create recovery media back-up. With other words create recovery media that you can use to install original OS that you got with your machine.

Due to issue, had to do a factory reset.
Laptop came with Win 8 preinstalled.

Ordered recovery media from Arvato.

Tried unsuccessfully many times to recover laptop using the discs. Same problem occurs:-

*initializing partition completed
*"Copying files please wait" for 1.5 to 2 hours
*"An error has occurred.
error :0002
Copy image error
Please press OK to turn off computer"

Now the HDD is completely deleted.
Suspect the recovery media and have asked for replacement,

Any help / settings would be appreciated.

Answer:Cannot recover Satellite C855D-15W with recovery DVD

Hi

In my opinion there are two possible reasons why the recovery procedure fails.

1) HDD malfunction
2) Recovery disk malfunction

I think you should firstly check if the HDD isn?t the troublemaker.
Go to BIOS (F2) and check if the HDD is listed on the first BIOS page.
In case it is, the HDD might be OK

In this case the Recovery disk could be faulty.
In such case you should get in contact with the disk provider/supplier (Arvato) to get new medium.

Hello

I am creating this thread to find out if it is possible to upgrade or change the processor from my laptop.. I can barely work with the programs I have to at university..

Beside the processor, which is an *AMD E1-1200 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics (2 CPUs), _~1.4GHz_*.. I have good Memory *RAM: 6GB* and good videocard: *AMD Radeon HD 7310 (3GB)*

Thanks in advance,
Cosmin

Answer:Satellite C855D-13L - is it possible to upgrade the processor

Hi Cosmin

The whole CPU upgrade story is a little bit difficult.
Lets talk about facts:
- Fact is that notebook?s manufacturers don?t support any CPU upgrades and don?t advice such upgrade.
- Fact is that notebooks use special BIOS versions modified for each notebook series and therefore different CPUs might cause problems due to BIOS compatibility. In worst case your notebook would not boot up after CPU upgrade.
- Fact is that your notebook supports AMD Hudson A68M chipset and ONLY the AMD CPUs would be supported by the chipset.
- Fact is that notebook disassembling procedure is not very easy and there is a high risk of part damage while disassembling the unit.
- Fact is that you will NOT notice big performance boost after the CPU upgrade. I would recommend you to replace the HDD with an SSD drive to get performance boost.

These are some facts which you should consider before thinking about the CPU replacement.

Do you want to recover the notebook back to factory settings?
Usually you?ve got two options:

You can use HDD recovery optionOr you will use the Recovery disk (medium). This medium must be created using the Toshiba Recovery Medium Creator software preinstalled on the notebook
The Satellite C855D-13N was preinstalled with Win 8 64bit.
If you did not modify the HDD and the recovery partition, you should be able to use the HDD recovery as mentioned here:
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R02.htm
see chapter: Windows 8 / Windows 8.1

In case the HDD recovery isn?t possible you should use the recovery medium? but I?m wondering why you received the disk with the notebook?usually the recovery disk isn?t part of the package.

It's possible this may go back to the 8.1 upgrade to Windows. The system seems to recognise the E: drive, double clicking the drive opens the the CD compartment asking for a CD to be inserted. But when the CD drawer closes, it seems like 3 attempts are made to read the disk, then nothing. I've cleaned the laser, and tried uninstalling the device/re-booting, but to no avail. Hi,

I suggest you the following: Recover your machine and update the tools and drivers again. I am not sure if McAfee is the cause for your problem but if a system is broken on the software side then one of the most popular and useful actions is to recover the system and then to be happy when it works again.

Would appreciate some feedback on your success.
