Fingerprint scanner has stopped working after vV1.0.3.49 update

Question: Fingerprint scanner has stopped working after vV1.0.3.49 update

I recently downloaded from Toshiba and installed Fingerprint Utility V1.0.3.49 (tc00407400c.exe) and since then my fingerprint scanner has stopped working.
The software opens but wont recognize my fingerprint and can't login any other way.

Have uninstalled and reinstalled several times and same result.

Device manager says device working ok.

Preferred Solution: Fingerprint scanner has stopped working after vV1.0.3.49 update

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Fingerprint scanner has stopped working after vV1.0.3.49 update

May I ask you what notebook model you have and what system you are using?

Probably you would need to delete the registered fingerprints and after the new reboot you should try to register the new fingerprints using the updated fingerprint software.

Did you try that?

I tried doing a search but came up with nothing. The fingerprint scanner on my P50 just stopped working last week. No changes were made by me. In device manager there is an exclamation under Biometric devices/Synaptics WBDI. I tried disabling/reenabling and also tried uninstalling that and re-installing the Synaptics drivers from the support page but nothing is helping. I'm working on a project right now so don't have the time to do a Windows 10 re-install or contact support and inevitably ship this computer in for repair....so I thought I'd ask and see if anyone was experiencing this lately and if there was a simple fix (assuming the hardware just didn't fail suddenly). Thanks

Last week it worked fine...was able to swipe my finger when off and it booted and signed in just last week swiping my finger wouldn;t power on, but i could turn on manually and swipe finger to login to windows the option for poweron was still on...i read t clear the fingerprint data now when i try to register fingerprints i get the error E7210005 Fingerprint sensor device is exclusivly used by another application I read to uninstall the driver, uninstall the fingerprint software, reboot and clear the data in the bios then reinstall I've tried this multiple times and i get the same error... Any solutions?

Answer:w530 fingerprint scanner stopped working

Try uninstalling all of the fingerprint manager software, then use this:https://driverstoreexplorer.codeplex.com/Select everything by Authentec, and choose to Delete Package (check Force Delete) if you have to. Reboot, then try again. Also make sure Windows Update isn't installing some generic driver before you have a chance to install the proper one.

Yesterday I ran Driver Booster in an attempt to improve Netflix playback. It said I had 72 out of date drivers. After running it and restarting, the fingerprint reader permenently said "Reader not detected". I have it set to require password and fingerprint for all accounts, so I cant log in to try to fix anything. Any ideas what I could do aside from factory reset? Unfortunately dont have any backups (But I did pull all the files from the drive so not THAT concerned about them, but would prefer to just fix the issue)

After a Windows and/or Lenovo update a couple of weeks ago, the fingerprint reader software on my T430 started not working. I am running Win 8.1

I did some checking, some reading on other threads and uninstalled + reinstalled the fingerprint reader software, to no avail.
When I open it, it says "Fingerprint sensor device exclusively used by another application"

While the fingerprint software manager was uninstalled, I also uninstalled the driver and rebooted, so it reinstalled itself. Nothing changed.
The Device Manager shows it's working correctly.

I tried to enable the Windows fingerprint log on, both when the Lenovo Fingerprint manager was uninstalled [after reinstalling the driver] and when it was installed. I get an error after the 1st attempt at scanning a fingerprint and no further info is provided.

Any idea what else I can do to fix this?

I recently updated Windows 10 Pro x64 on my Envy 14 to the new Creator Update from Microsoft and now Windows does not recognize the fingerprint reader. HP Simple Pass recognizes it when I manually open the app but will not recognize any fingerprint. I updated the driver manually through device manager to no avail and HP Update Assistant says there are no updates for my computer. Help please.

I've now tried installing the Windows 10 Pro Creator's Update twice, and both times my fingerprint reader stopped working for Windows Hello. I just get "Your credentials could not be verified". I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver (and I'm on the latest), removing and re-registering my fingerprint, and I've also tried the trick I saw suggested elsewhere of switching to a local account, then back to a Microsoft account. That works temporarily but as soon as I switch back to my MS account, it breaks again. I've rooted around the BIOS but everything seems fine. I have the same fingerprint set on startup and that still works fine; Windows just doesn't recognize it, either when it's passed on from the BIOS or when I try to do it again manually. Has anyone had this problem and managed to fix it *without* reverting permanently to a local account? I don't see why that should be necessary and it definitely isn't supposed to be. I have reverted back to the Anniversary Update both times because of this issue.

Hi
Have seen several posts but no solutions. After a windows 10 update a couple of months ago, the fingerprint scanner stopped working. It recognises me but then says "your credentials could not be confirmed".
Microsoft have sent endless messages blaming the driver, the scanner etc etc. Finally they say it is an issue with the update, but they have not solution at this time. Good old Microsoft and their helpful updates, which you cannot avoid.
Anyone have the same problem and how did you fix it??
Thanks

Hello everyone,
Lately I've been (sadly) an Windows 10 user which so far gives me nothing but troubles.
After the "Customer Update" we've recently experienced, my LAN scanner stopped working.

The device I am talkng about is Konica Minolta Bizhub c224e. It is combined printer with scanner. The way scans work is that the printer/scanner saves the scanned file on my computer via LAN network. Sadly, no more. For some reason straight after update I am talking about, the scanner can't save any more files on my computer. The printer works just fine.

I didnt change anything related to sharing. Didnt install/uninstall any new drivers or devices. It's all the same way it was before update, excluding update alone of course.

Does anyone have any clue what could the update change in Network and sharing, that the scanner can't save anything?

Answer:LAN scanner stopped working after update

Welcome to the TenForums @Ricdarico

While you may search for a fix the quickest way is likely to re-install device. First create a restore point and maybe even an Image of OS.

Then uninstall printer and scanner. Head to Minolta and get the latest drivers and software. Proceed with the installation. Watch the order, some devices need to be powered off while drivers and software are installed and will call for the device when required. You should have some sort of Quick start card that indicates order.

The installation process should return operation back to normal.

Hello. . .
I use the fingerprint reader to login to my Latitude E5550 every time.  However, I was unable to do so after the latest Windows 10 update (version 1607).

It did still show in the Windows Device Manager (i.e., no "Unknown Device" listed)
I went into the DDP Console to try to register a new fingerprint (for troubleshooting), but it wasn't reading the swipes
I attempted to update to the latest firmware/drivers, but that only caused unknown devices to show up in the Device Manager (ControlVault Firmware v3.3.15.0 and ControlVault Drivers v3.3.14.68)
Switched back to the older driver (v3.0.48.26) and all devices were once again recognized

Any suggestions for how to get around this?  It's not the end of the world, but I *really* like using the fingerprint reader (I paid extra for) to login.  If I can provide additional helpful information, please let me know.
Thanks!

Fingerprint scanner for HP Pavilion dv6-6047cl laptop (Windows 7) was still working after install of Windows 10, but then stopped working when Smart Friends initiated a clean install of Windows 10 to fix Office (which was acting wonky). I have downloaded and installed various drivers, including those on HP website associated with my laptop model,  the lenovo driver, and the driver HP Tech Support told me was the specific driver for my laptop (Validity Sensor 4.3.205.0 -- sp53369). Nothing seems to work.  Do I need to download software (Digital Persona) for it to work?  Because the tech at HP TECH Support said that the scanner would work with Windows 10 if I installed the correct driver.  I contacted HP Smart Friends and told them all this, thinking that they might no what to do next.  But the tech just mucked around for over an hour re-dowloading the same drivers I already had and a third-party software called Software Informer that I really did not want on my laptop.  In the end the tech told me that the drivers were incompatible with Windows 10 and there was nothing more he could do.  But I not very confident that the tech knew what he was doing.    Is this hopeless as HP Smart Friends would have me believe?

Answer:Fingerprint Scanner not working - VERY CONFUSED!

Fear not, there is always hope. Had a similar situation with an EliteBook 2560p. After playing around with several ways and configurations, I was able to make the fingerprint sensor work with Windows Hello to log on to the machine via finger print. Do not ask me WHY it works, but this is the way the installation does work (for this machine) and as I have an image of the drive of the state before it worked, I was able to repeat the process to make sure this (and only this) is the way it works. You will need the Lenovo driver https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/l67y44a0.exe and the HP driver package http://whp-aus2.cold.extweb.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp58501-59000/sp58900.exe Please be aware that you are proceeding at your own risk. If your configuration is screwed after this, its not on my account. 1. Unistall all the current Validity and Lenovo packages2. In Device Manager remove the current Fingerprint driver AND delete it.3. W/o a reboot install the Lenovo package l67y44a0 (Synaptics WBF DDK 5011 (Advanced)4. Reboot5. Install the HP package sp58900 (Valdity WBF DDK)6. Reboot7. In Device Manager (whatever it shows there, even if it loooks good!) , update the driver for the reader by "Browse my computer for driver software" and "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer". There should be only one driver to pick, called "Validity Sensors (WBF) (PID=003c)" which might differ for you. Step 7 should bring the Fingerprint reader online. If... Read more

Dear Lenovo forum, Is this working as intended? I have my computer set to sleep automatically when I close the lid. For example, I go to bed, close the lid, I wake up open the lid and it prompts me to use the fingerprint scanner or to type in the password manually. So I roll / put my finger that is recognized by  the scanner to try and log in, and 9/10 times it does not work. Instead I have to type in my password. But this defeats the whole purpose of me getting the T460p with the fingerprint scanner. The only way it works is if I start it up from sleep, type in my password, then close the lid again, slide/ roll my finger then it works and recognizes my fingerprint. How do I fix this ?? Thanks, P

Does anybody have a clue how to get the fingerprint scanner to actually work ? - in all the time I`ve had this laptop  it`s NEVER really functioned  properly. 1. It keeps  losing its registry settings  - & I  find myself constantly having to uninstall it and scan  for thedevice again  just to get it to even light up. 2. it point blank refuses to take a fingerprint scan, - according to it , the sensor is either too dirty , I`m moving my finger too fast  or  using the "wrong" stroke when  scanning. if its such a unreliable  device - why  even include it in this  otherwise excellent laptop? - I have no issues with the actual machine itself,  other than its  running the awful windows 8.1 operating system  - which I find is bugged beyond belief- I`d really much have preferred to buy this  laptop with windows 7  on it but thats  another story entirely...sigh. Back to the fingerprint scanner - has ANYONE got it to work?

Okay, so I know that some people have already epxlored this issue in the past and that it is a fairly old topic, but I have just come across this problem and nothing I do seems to fix it. As the title suggests, the fingerpring scanner is not working. The thing is, it KINDA works, it just won't let me register any fingers, and fails to delete fingerprints.

But, as suggested in the next picture, it DOES work.
http://puu.sh/5fARC.jpgI will go into the tutorial and that says that it is reading a good image. So, what is the problem? I have tried reinstalling the driver, rebooting, deleting fingerprints in BIOS, done that weird disable and enable automatic device installation thing, and I'm lost. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi

I have a problem with the login process for Windows. A while ago (nearly a year now) I installed a USB fingerprint reader and this worked fine for a while when all of a sudden it appeared to stop working on the login page. It turns out that if I scan my fingerprint within the first 2 seconds of the login page appearing then Windows recognizes the device and allows me to log in using biometrics, if I try after the 2 seconds then it doesn't work and I have to use a password. I really don't understand, the device is recognized, working properly and even if it doesn't work for logging in then I can still access biometric settings and everything as if it was completely fine.

I'm presuming that this is a driver conflict somewhere that during the loading process something happens after 2 seconds that prevents the fingerprint reader from operating correctly but how do I find out what?!?!?!

Answer:Fingerprint scanner not working unless you're very very quick!!!

Hello, I've had my Hp envy m6 notebook about a year now and I recently cleaned it out to make it run faster and fix up some other stuff. On accident, I believe that I uninstalled the program entitled 'Validity WBF DDK'.  Immediatley i realized that my fingerprint scanner was not working.  I went into the HP Utility Center and reinstalled the driver for the program, but it does not seem to work. I even erased my fingerprints and rescanned them.  That did not work though.  At first the scanner light used to light up, but nothing even shows up now.  The light does not turn on and when I try to log in, I get a messaage that says "An error occurred preventing the use of your fingerprint credentials". It's not that important, but I upsets me that I cant get it work anymore.Someone please help, please and thank you!-Jeremy

Trying to get an external USB Eikon UPEK fingerprint scanner to work with my new T460p. Scanner works fine with Windows 10 Hello!, but I'm unable to get it to work for PXE pre-boot authentication (for BIOS power-on, hard disk passwords), even though I have set the BIOS to give priority to an external scanner. At the moment, only the built-in scanner works in both phases (pre-boot, Win 10). I used this scanner in the past with the previous ThinkPad (a T520), so I'm confident it's not faulty, but for some reason the BIOS is not recognising it. Is there something I'm missing? Has anyone managed to get an external fingerprint reader to work with a T460p in the pre-boot phase? If so, which model/mfr are you using? Many thanks

So earlier today, I logged into my computer seamlessly with the fingerprint scanner multiple times. Then, all of a sudden, the light has stopped working and I can't login with the scanner no matter how many times I attempt it. I've opened up simplepass, and it seems to think there's no problem with it. When I try to register a new finger, it simply gives me the directions and says 0% (no "not connected" or anything like that). When I swipe my finger it doesn't recognize it, though, and it stays at 0% until I press cancel. What should I do. I've already rebooted the computer and that hasn't seemed to work.

My HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC has recently had some issues, so I had to reset it to factory settings (Windows 7) and then upgraded again to windows 10. Now my fingerprint reader is not working, I do not have windows hello on my laptop at all, and I can't even find it as biometric devices in my device manager. can I do something to make it work?

Do you see any unknown devices in device manager?
Make sure and check Windows update to make sure windows is up to date.

Hey

I have a Toshiba Portege M700 tablet and the fingerprint scanner with the truesuite software and the password bank plugin.

It was all working fine and dandy with firefox 2.
Then last night I went and updated to firefox 3 and now I can't log into websites with the fingerprint scanner.

No error messages, nothing. As far as i can tell the truesuite or password bank software isn't detecting firefox 3. I updated it to the newest version i could find, 2.0.2.0.

I found this thread telling me that the process of updating firefox breaks it and that i should completely uninstall and reinstall firefox, which i did.
That didnt fix it.

Then i completely uninstalled and reinstalled truesuite. That didnt help either.
Its still broken.

Does anyone know a workaround or a way to fix this, or should i just wait and see if there is an updated version of password bank? (i find that unlikely because its not really a standard program)

Answer:Portege M700: Cannot use fingerprint scanner after update to Firefox 3

ok i found the thread about updating firefox

Hello, So I have Lenovo t440p laptop, upgraded from windows 8.1 to windows 10, everything was going well, I had all drivers installed , no problem. then suddenly some errors with devices occured and I had 3 BSOD crashes, after which I was not able to install or change driver of any device. I tried a little workaround, I realized that the device setup manager hangs up and I was not able to restart it or do anything with it... so after few sleepless nights I tried system reinstallation with keeping my files in place. I had to install all the software and apps I was using. and then install one driver for Synaptics Fingerprint sensor. now it is installed from manufacturer website, the latest version, device manager shows no errors , but, I am not able to setup fingerprint logon because I do not have any options like Windows Hello in sign-in options , the whole part of windows Hello is missing after the system restore. I really dont get it, I have another computer with windows 10 even there is no biometric sensor, when I search hello in start or fingerprint I can get to settings of windows hello. And it is driving me craze because if I wouldn´t get it working after upgrade from windows 8.1 I just propably keep it as it is , but I know it was working well even on windows 10...I found article here https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-10-Knowledge-Base/Fingerprint-Scanner-not-working-on-ThinkPad-T...  but I don´t have any registry keys described in it.  ... Dear all, I've just received my P50 (20EQS00600, M1000M, i7-6700HQ, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD) about a week ago, and I quite like it. However, there is one thing that is driving me nuts: after I upgraded from Win 7 Pro 64 bit to Win 10 Pro, the fingerprint functionality stopped working. This issue seems to be related to the ones reported in these two threads for the P70 but at the same time appears sufficiently different to warrant a new post: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/P70-fingerprint-software-issue/m-p/22517...https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/Fingerprint-and-Sound-problems-P70/td-p/... So, here's what I did:1) I clean-installed Win 10 w/o retaining any data/settings from the previous Win 7 installation; I even reformatted the SSD.2) Upon initial installation I was asked by Windows Hello to enroll fingerprints which I did.3) Fingerprint worked on the first login but then magically vanished. Windows Hello is no longer showing up as a login option in the Win control panel.4) I discovered in Device Manager that the Synaptics WBDI reports the following problem: 'This device cannot start. (Code 10)'.5) Repeated uninstall and reinstall of the drivers are to no avail. I tried both having Win look up a driver and manual installation of the drivers I downloaded from the Lenovo page.6) When I uninstalled the drivers and then wiped the stored fingerprints in BIOS, I was again able to enroll fingerprints with Windows... Answer:P50 Win 10 Pro -- Fingerprint stopped working

Same problem on my W550s under essentially the same circumstances.  Unfortunately Lenovo is taking the tack that FP problems on new machines are the fault of the software not the hardware so they will not warranty the bad FP sensor. I had 3 FP sensors in my W520 over the 3 years of its warranty as they are far from foolproof devices.  But now that Win 10 has taken over the software side of the usage, Lenovo has apparently decided they will save some service calls by not warranting the FP sensor and blaming the problem on software which they don't warranty. Good luck.  If you do find a solution, I will be listening closely.

Answer:Fingerprint scanner dell vostro 3360 not working under Windows 7

Hello Vgalav,
Have you tried these steps?
(1) Update the Bios.
(2) Enable biometric support:  BIOS > System Configuration > Biometric Device Option > enable
(3) Clean the fingerprint reader with a soft cloth, dampened with an ammonia-based glass cleaner.
(4) If the problem is not resolved, check to see if the Fingerprint Reader is detected in Device Manager.  If not, reinstall the drivers.  http://dell.to/1lAGqoK
(5) If the drivers do not resolve the problem, repair/reinstall the operating system.
(6) If reinstalling the operating system doesn't resolve the problem, the finger print reader may need to be replaced.
I hope this helps to resolve the problem for you,~Maureen#Iwork4Dell

I took the palm rest and keyboard off to dust the inside of my case (had been having heat issues). After returning the pieces removed my tracpad and tracpoint no longer function and neither does my print scanner. I've attempted to reseat both connections to no avail.  Fn-F8 says ultranav drivers not installed regardless of whether they are or not. Windows 7 Power was off, battery out and unplugged. What do I do?

Answer:W510 touch pad, tracpoint and fingerprint scanner no longer working

Had similar problem.  You know the connector that connects the palm-wrest to the computer? You know how there is a swiveling part that secures it in place? Make sure that that part is pushed down, not pulled up against the connector.

Answer:Fingerprint Reader Stopped Working

The only thing i can think of is uninstall then reinstall the driver for it and see if it works again. i have two ibm thinkpad laptops with that feature and i dont even use them because to me personally they are a nuisance and after one went haywire and locked me out of the computer i said i dont need this headache anymore.i had to take the hard drive out remove the driver for that and reinstall the hard drive. no more problems after that.

I have an X1 carbon just purchased in January of 2016.  it came with Windows 10 and and all off the updates from Lenovo and Windows have been downloaded and installed.  the device manager says the fingerprint scanner driver is up to date. The fingerprint reader no longer works.  I receive messages such as " try using a longer stroke" or "move your finger to the right".  It worked in the beginning, then it would take several strokes before it registerd and now it does not work at all.  I have tried to register a new print with Windows and after about 20 trys it tells me the finger is already registered.  Then I tried a different finger and I just keep getting the messages refered to above.  How can I fix this?

Answer:fingerprint reader stopped working

Try clearing the fingerprint sensor from BIOS Setup:

1.  Reboot
2.  Press F1 to enter BIOS Setup
3.  Change to the Security page, and then select the Fingerprint item
4.  Choose the option to Reset Fingerprint Data, and then wait for it to finish
5.  Press F10 to save/exit and reboot to Windows 10
6.  Delete your fingerprints and try enrolling again, from the Settings -> Accounts -> Sign-in Options screen

Hello, Fingerprint reader on my T400 had stopped working. Window Logo windows shows the FPR is unavailable, Lenovo FPR software shows "can not communicate with the senor. Please confirm the sensor is ready". I have no clue what caused this problem, not sure if its related with bios updated I had done a few days before? I searched this forum and tried to find solution online, I tried:1) remove fingerprint software and uninstall authentec device driver from "device manager", reboot, re-install the lenovo fingerpint software 2) verified the fingerprint bios settings(internal reader etc) But still no luck with the FPR. I had FPR "pre-desktop" freture enabled in the bios so I could use FPR to login to bios. Now the bios FPR login window doesn't show up and I have to type in password to get into bios. Could it be a hardware failure? ( However it shows the authentec device is working properly in "device manager".)

My fingerprint reader has stopped working again. It started working after the last Windows 10 update, but after some time it just stopped working. I got a message saying to "swipe my finger slowly". Other times it said to "swipe finger more to the left" But no matter how many times I tried the reader just did not recognized my fingerprint. Now the reader's light is not even visible when I swipe my finger. I have not updated Windows again since I'm waiting for the latest update of Windows Creator to be available for my laptop.  All the other available updates for my laptop were supposedly installed on 4-17-17 Any help? Thank you.

Hi all, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post but feel free to let me know if this needs to be re-directed. I've had an Elitebook 840 G2 for about 2 months with Windows 10 installed. I frequently used the fingerprint reader to log-in. However, as of yesterday, the fingerprint reader no longer seems to be working. I'm unable to log-in with the reader and when I try to set up a new fingerprint, the reader doesn't read it. I tried looking for the fingerprint reader driver but that's not listed for my model anywhere. Any guidance for what next steps are would be great. Thanks!

The fingerprint reader on my W541 laptop stopped working.  It's been working for more than a year, and worked last week.  Now it's not working - not illuminated & doesn't read my fingerprint.  Going into 'Settings' (Windows 10), 'Accounts', & 'Sign-In Options', it says "Windows Hello is not available on this device".I believe 'Windows Hello' is the software that runs the fingerpront reader.Any ideas of what to look for to get this working again? I have not loaded any new software since last week (when the fingerprint reader was working). The last system update installed was:"Intel Corporation - Bluetooth - 11/14/2016 12:00:00 AM - 19.30.1646.853" - installed on 2/1/17 (4 days ago). The fingerprint reader worked OK after that update.

You can use the vista driver if you install it in compatibility mode. to do this right click the installer>properties>compatibility mode>check vista. then install

Hello to you all !
I am stubbing to get the fingerprint scanner working on my Dell Latitude E7470.
I already get stuck when i want to set up my fingerprint in Windows Hello.
I must get my finger on the reader but can wait very long before the reader recognizes a finger on the reader, sometimes it does not see my finger at all ...
I installed the latest Control Vault driver (version A.09)  from the Dell Website.
If i install the previous Control Vault driver (version A.08) i can actually get through the set up from Windows Hello (that goed not very smooth and rather slow but i manage to finish it)  and use the fingerprint scanner BUT it is very slow with recognizing my finger and sometimes it does not recognize it at all ...
Is there a driver issue from Dell (version A.10 with Latitude E7470) or what is happening here ?
Can someone help me to get the fingerprint scanner work properly ?
Thanks in advantage for your help !

Today I started up my laptop, signed in using the fingerprint scanner, then checked for updates.  After updating (Lenovo Fingerprint Manger - 7/8 [32,63] (Version 4.5.266.0) and Lenovo Solution Center - 7 [64] (Version 2.4.003)) and rebooting the scanner stopped working. Upon running the device manager, uninstalling the device, rescanning, my laptop attempts to install the device driver and fails. How can I either uninstall the updates OR load the driver? This is not a hardware issue, it is something jacked up with either update.

I woke up this morning, turned on the laptop, and completely out of the blue the fingerprint detection stopped working with the message "Sorry, something went wrong" (It had been working for months).  So I removed fingerprint detection in Windows setup so I could reset it, however it will not let me set up a new fingerprint.   Here is what happens when I try and reset it: 1) Click Setup.2) Click Get Started.3) Message comes up "Touch the fingerprint screen" (NOTE: The green LED illuminates).4) Place the finger on the screen and the following message immediately appears:     Sorry, something went wrong.  Close Windows Hello, and then try going through the setup again.5) So rebooted to make sure that was not the problem and tried again and it still does not work. What else I tried: 1) I uninstalled the Biometrics Driver and reinstalled it from the Lenovo site.....Same problem. My laptop = T470OS = Win 10 Pro 64 bit (Latest Updates from Microsoft)All Drivers = (Latest Updates from Lenovo)Biometric Device = Synaptics WBD(SGX enabled)    The device is working properly    Driver = 5.2.3515.26 (05-23-2017)

quick question for you. Did you by any chance update the fingerprint software via windows update? I remember doing that once, and it totally fubarred my system. the only solution was to uninstall the drivers completely and reinstall the drivers from lenovo

Answer:B570 Fingerprint reader stopped working - need help

dimmaemmy,

I split your message off from the other thread that was more of a general complaint rather than focused on getting help for the finger print reader.  While it seems like this has happened to at least one other person, the community doesn't seem to understand what is going on just yet.

Can you tell us a bit more about the situation?

How long have you had the B570?  Which model is it? (There is a type number on the bottom that should be 7 characters long - this will help us get more information).

Does it ever work?  Is it just buggy, or was it working fine and then just quit?

What have you tried already?

Generically, we'd suggest:

1) Check BIOS to see if there are any settings for FP enable / disable
2) Check device manager - does the fingerprint reader show up - would be under biometric devices (I think)
3) Have you downloaded and re-installed the drivers?

OK - assuming you've done those things we have some choices on next steps.

You could try to back up your data and then use one key recovery to restore system to factory state - this will wipe everything.  If something has become corrupt software wise, this should fix it.  If not, you just wasted some time and will have to reinstall your stuff.

You could call service, they could try some things over the phone, possibly offer to remote into your system and try to fix it, or arrange for you to send in for service.

It used to happen occassionally. Where I would attempt to use the fingerprint reader and nothing would happen. Now it just doesn't work at all.
I try to open the fingerprint reader program but it says "Failed to connect to the sensor."
Why do you think it's failed to connect to it and how can I get it to connect?

Answer:Fingerprint reader seems to have randomly stopped working

Sounds like there is a bad connection.
I would send the laptop to an Authorized Service Center for repair.

There is an ASP list on the Toshiba Website.

Fingerprint scanner worked great until I installed recommended updates from Lenovo which included an update to the fingerprint software.  (lesson learned - if it ain't broke don't trust lenovo to fix it), I get an error message telling me the fingerprint scanner is unavailable.  When I go into an app that requires a password, I get a popup telling me to connect the scanner.  In Device Manager, there's a yellow flag on the Authentec Inc. AES2810 fingerprint scanner and the device status says:"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available." Tried letting Windows find a solution - no luck - says the driver is the latest.  Tried Windows System Restore (several times with different restore points) but it comes back saying the system restore failed. Can't roll back the driver as this option is ghosted out. Called lenovo support.  They don't seem to know what to do - uninstall the new software, change a BIOS setting, re-install the software etc, Looking at the posts in the Forum, this appears to be a wide spread problem.  I actually have a Lenovo 300 V100 with the same problem and have not had a solution for it either so the problem seems to apply to more than just the tablet PC's,  The V100 fingerprint scanner also quit immed... After a Windows update, I can no longer use my finger print to sign in! It says "Your credentials could not be verified" after the fingerprint reader goes green and says "Hello <my name>" This is windows Hello with Microsoft live. If I try another (wrong) finger, the reader LED will go orange and will not even say "Hello" so I know the reader is working... but something broke after an update. I tried changing the group policy settings to allow biometric sign in, but I still get the error... Please advise, this is annoying!!

I upgraded to Win10 last year. The fingerprint reader has been working fine since then. Recently it stopped. Device Manager says the device is working properly. SimplePass doesn'r report an issue. I'm still prompted for my fingerprint when logging into web sites. But the reader doesn't appear to be on. The light doesn't flash and my fingerprint isn't read. Device Manager lists the driver as: 1/7/20124.3.301.0 My SimplePass is: 6.0.100.276

Hi, I wonder if someone can help me ?
First, please excuse my poor English, I'm Norwegian ( ! )
and allow me to tell you that I am just "normally" technical ...
-so please, please "speak" so I can understand.

My fingerprint sensor stopped working today, this has happen before,
restarting the computer has previously "fixed" the problem, but not today ... !

I have dowloaded and installed new drivers & software ( TrueSuite Access Manager ) ( from Toshiba support ) -- still not working ...
I have checked the Device manager ( Biometric Devices )
It says that the device is working properly. It says that the drivers are all up to date.
But it still does not work.

I've been on the phone with Toshiba support for a long time today, but not even support could help me ...
they had never heard of a similar problem on a Qosmio X300 before ( ? )
They suspcted that I had send it in for service ... and I would like to avvoid this, if I can ...
Cause that means that my computer will be gone for at least 14 days ...

I have also read all threads about fingerprint problems in this forum, and tried everything ... but nothing helps !

When I'm promted to scan my finger, the scanner seems to be "dead" ... ?
Can anyone please help me to solve this problem ?

Hoping for help !
Thanks so much for taking the time ...

Sincerely ms.norway

Answer:Qosmio X300 - Fingerprint sensor stopped working

Hello

This is really strange but I can?t say at the moment what causes this issue.

Have you tried to update the BIOS? You can find it on the Toshiba website:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers

If it doesn?t work you should try to reinstall Windows by using the Toshiba recovery disk. Maybe it?s a software issue or something else. You have already updated the drivers and software so I think this would be the next step.

In worst case you should sent it in for service or repair. I think there is no other solution but I have good experience with the Toshiba service.
I did send it in my notebook in and I get it back after 10 days. Very fast and the problem was solved. :)

Answer:standard windows fingerprint logon stopped working

Try device manager, personal identification devices, right click on the fingerprint reader and rollback driver.

I can no longer use or enroll finger prints on my T430s laptop running Windows 8.1!ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software is 6.0.0.8102.Sensor: TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor (WBF advanced mode). Driver version: 1.6.2.352.  Symptom: when trying to enroll a fingerprint, I get the message: 'Use a longer stroke when scanning your fingerprint,' the sensor light turns from green to blinking orange (3 times), then back to green. Same happens when when trying to enroll from Windows PC Setting/ Sign-in Options/ Fingerprint (Add). What I tried: uninstalling ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software and Driver (to include selecting 'Delete the driver software for this device'), rebooting, using Lenovo System Update to re-install ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software, rebooting. Have also tried to manually install previous versions of the Fingerprint Software to no avail.  Note: I had this similar problem in the past, since upgrading from Windows 8 to 8.1, but the steps above usually resolved it.  Has anybody encountered this issue? Any ideas for a solution? Many thanks!

Answer:Fingerprint reader stopped working - T430s, Windows 8.1

Try rebooting into BIOS Setup (reboot and press F1 at the Lenovo/ThinkPad logo screen).  Then change to the Security menu, Fingerprint option, and choose the option about "Reset Fingerprint Data".  Then press F10 to save and exit and boot back into Windows.  Then try to enroll your finger again.

I didn't get the message but otherwise the same symptoms.  Read other posts about lenovo laptops, and they suggest booting up and going into your BIOS setup, go to Security, and reset the fingerprint reader.  This worked for me, and unlike that case, i didn't have to re-read my fingerprints.

I have a Portege R500 laptop. The fingerprint utility has stopped working. First (perhaps after an update of the True Suite Acess Manager was installed a few months ago) it failed to work on login but did work for other passwords.

Now it doesn't work at all. If I try to register fingerprints it tells me that it has failed to locate the sensor. I have reinstalled the AES1610 driver and the TrueSuite access manager, but it makes no difference.

In Device Manager it says that the device is working. I have looked at various threads on this without seeing anything that works.

Answer:Portege R500 - fingerprint utility has stopped working

Hmm? Maybe you should try to clean the registry after the fingerprint software has been uninstalled.

In your case I would follow this:
- uninstall the fingerprint software and delete the fingerprint device from the device manager.
- reboot the notebook
- clean the registry using the free tool called CCleaner
- reboot once again and install the software and driver
- reboot once again and test the fingerprint functionality

Hi,I am suspecting a hardware failure, but wanted to check the forums first anyway.I have an X230 Tablet running Windows 8.1 Update. Fingerprint software 6.0. Was working fine (i.e. swipe to power on and log on to Windows and the Lenovo Password Mgr) until this morning. No more green light on the sensor, no function. Windows says that the fingerprint sensor is not available. It was still showing up in Device Manager, I uninstalled it as part of some troubleshooting and it's not being detected anymore now.Any ideas other than hardware? Thanks,SA.

Answer:X230 Tablet fingerprint reader stopped working

It sounds like hardware failure but try one more thing:

Reboot into BIOS setup (by pressing F1 at the ThinkPad logo screen).
Go to the security -> fingerprint menu.
There's an option about clearing the fingerprint sensor storage (or something like that).
What happens?

A few days ago my fingerprint reader suddenly stopped working. I looked around the forums and found a number of threads discussing this issue with workarounds about driver issues that were supposed to have been fixed by driver release 4.5.240.0. I dowloaded and have tried multiple times to uninstall and reinstall but nothing I do is working. I tried the older version as well to no avail. Help!

A few weeks ago the fingerprint scanner on my girlfriend's U460 stopped working. She was deep into a major project at the time so I wasn't able to really look into it until now. To the best of my knowledge no new software was installed around that time and the only updates would have come through Windows Update. The software does not recognize that the fingerprint scanner is connected. I uninstalled the software, restarted, and installed the latest version (5.9.3.6245) for Windows 7 64-bit from the lenovo download page. The problem seems to be that either Windows isn't detecting the hardware or that it's been given a generic driver and I can't find it. There's nothing in the device manager that appears to be the fingerprint reader. Normally with these symptoms I'd assume the hardware has gone bad, but looking for solutions there seem to be a lot of issues with Lenovo fingerprint readers. I just haven't seen anything about what I'm seeing specifically. Any ideas?

I know many people have had this issue but I can't find the solution. One of the threads from 2014 has a "solved" reply but all it says is "this appears to have solved my problem." Left wondering what solved the problem... I've had this computer for a week. The fingerprint reader worked fine until yesterday. Not sure if it was a coincidence, but I connected an older DVD write drive to the USB port to try and install an old software. After that, the fingerprint reader will no longer light up or work. The driver seems to be working fine under Device Manager, but when I open the Fingerprint Reader app I get a message saying the reader is not connected. Is this a problem that has remained forever unresolved and unaddressed by Lenovo or is there a solution that someone can point me to? Any help will be much appreciated.

Answer:T450s brand new and fingerprint reader stopped working

It might be something got corrupted on the fingerprint sensor, or it might be the hardware went bad.
To rule out corruption:
1.  reboot and press F1 to enter BIOS setup
2.  change to the Security menu, and then pick the Fingerprint item
3.  choose the option to "Reset Fingerprint Data"
4.  BIOS setup will tell you the result - what does it say?
5.  if step #4 is OK, then reboot into Windows and try to enroll your fingerprint again

I have a Toshiba Tecra S5 notebook and I've been using fingerprint logon since the beginning.

It stopped working when I chanaged my password.
Fingerprints are associated with the old password.

I have looked all over to find where to change that without success.

Anybody can point me in a right direction?

Thanx

Answer:Tecra S5 - Fingerprint logon stopped working when I chanaged password

Hi

I think you should remove the old fingerprints and should configure this again.
As far as I know you can use the new password to login.
Then access the Trusuite software settings, remove the old fingerprints and reconfigure it again using new scanned fingerprints.

Theoretically this should work.

Well my problem starts off like this I have a Qosmio X500-12Z I bought it the first few months were fine then suddenly my fingerprint utility stops working when I try to mannually turn it on it says "cannot connect to sensor" I dont know what to do I didnt tamper with any drivers or anything. I tried reinstalling it but still the same thing, TEMPRO also stopped working about at the same time. When I try to turn on TEMPRO Manually it says executable stopped working

What to do I have no idea will someone help me?

Answer:Qosmio X500-12Z - Fingerprint utility and TEMPRO stopped working

Hello

Well, generally speaking if you don?t need the fingerprint sensor you can ignore this error message. Also TEMPRO is not so important because it only informs you about new driver updates and if everything is ok with your notebook you don?t need newer drivers or tools.

But if both applications don?t run I would recommend reinstalling them. Uninstall both tools and restart your computer. Then run ?CCleaner? that is a freeware registry cleaner to delete old registry keys. Restart again and then download & install newest version of both tools.

Or should I say they suddenly stopped working under windows. I am using windows xp sp2 and have been using this laptop on the same installation of Windows for about 6 months now.. no problems at all.. till now. This morning when i turned on my laptop, the first thing i noticed that the fingerprint reader was not working.. It was not giving me any response at all.. so i logged in with my password.. Then while using the internet the wifi got disconnected from the router and after that it refused to work no matter what I do.. It gets stuck on "acquiring network adress" but when i gave a static ip, like 192.168.1.232 it gets connected but i dont get any data from the router.. it shows offline mode.. also the wifi gets disabled and then enabled by itself multiple times.. I had to turn it off..  -The router is fine.. my acer aspir 5315 and my nokia connects with the router via wi fi without any problems... - Also I tried using the wifi under ubuntu linux and it works there.. meaning the net works wirelessly without any problems in ubuntu but it refuses to connect in windows xp.. I could not try the fingerprint reader in ubuntu since it is not supported by linux yet. I tried removing the drivers and reinstalling the software+drivers.. but that did not help... any ideas as to what may have caused this? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.. I dont want to do a re-install of windows.. Help

Half the time the fingerprint system wouldn't show up being replaced by the typed login. That was on Vista. On WIn 7 it doesn't work at all and Lenovo hasn't edited the driver yet.

My Epson 1260 scanner stopped working after months of no problems. Said scanner not detected, check cables etc. AFter many hours of trying many things (talked with Epson) no luck. I have uninstalled software, taken the scanner out of the device manager etc. and started from scratch several times. When I get to the point of plugging into the USB, the Windows box "Unknown device. Windows has found new hardware and is locating the software for it." Then another box "New Hardware Found. Epson Perfection 1260. Windows is installing the software for your new hardware." Then it goes back to the first box and repeats this cycle every ~7 seconds for 6 minutes! Then nothing. There are 50 or so entries of Epson 1260 with a yellow question mark under the Unknown device folder in device manager.

I have Windows98 with Intel USB.

The scanner works on another computer with Windows98, the same software and cable.

HP All-in-One printer/scanner will print but will not scan using any scan programs, Adobe Acrobat, HP Software, or PaperPort. When scan is started in software, scan program hangs and must be closed as "non-responding." No changes were made to computer except add several Microsoft updates since scanner last worked. Now too, when computer is shut down or change user get Device IO Notification Window - not responding. This started when the scanner stopped working.

Answer:Portege R500 - Fingerprint Software suddenly stopped working: driver error

Hi

It?s strange that a driver stops working suddenly.
However, possibly there is are some corrupted system or driver files? who knows... ?:|
If the software and driver reinstallation don?t help try to roll back the OS to the early time point.

In worst case you will have to use the Toshiba recovery CD to restore the machine to the factory settings? but hopefully the Vista system restore tool will help.

Good luck and best regards buddy
