Satellite U400 Impossible to create recovery DVD with Recovery disc creator

Question: Satellite U400 Impossible to create recovery DVD with Recovery disc creator

I have a Satellite U400 (few years old), and I never created the recovery DVD.
Now I want to do it, but for some reasons, when I launch Toshiba recovery disc creator, nothing happens...
The partition with the recovery files is there, as well as the folder HDDRecovery. I did add some files to this partition, could this be the problem ?

Thanks for your help.

Preferred Solution: Satellite U400 Impossible to create recovery DVD with Recovery disc creator

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite U400 Impossible to create recovery DVD with Recovery disc creator

>I did add some files to this partition, could this be the problem ?
No. if you didn?t change partitions structure this should not be the problem.

Question is: does Toshiba recovery disc creator start or not? If you cannot star this tool it has nothing to do with recovery files.
Can you find this file - C:\Program Files\Toshiba\TOSHIBA Recovery Disc Creator\TRORDCLauncher.exe ?

I haven't changed anything on the HDD!!! How do I create my Recovery Disc?

Answer:Satellite U400-10J - Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator fails!

I have made many experiments with fresh preinstalled Vista and this message is shown is the folder with recovery image is missing. So the fact is the folder and data are gone.

Are you really sure you didn?t do anything? Has someone else access to your notebook?

My laptop is Satellite A300-211

My question is can I use the Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator program to burn CDs and DVDs beside the image of Windows?

Answer:Satellite A300-211 - Can I use recovery disc creator to create other discs?

Hi mate,

The Toshiba recovery disk creator can only create the Toshiba recovery disk and that?s all!

If you want to burn other CDs or DVDs you have to use another program like Nero or CD Burner XP. The last one is freeware and really nice. It has a lot of functions and is very small. Check this!!

Hi all,

I have been trying to creat recovery discs for my L300 but after a 1-2 mins the programme stops and says "please check if the disc is scratced or dirty, if so, try again with a new disc" error code 0E01B5-26-2A030C00,

I have tried this lots of times with lots of different DVDs over the past few weeks but this keeps happening!

The machine is only a few weeks old and running Vista home premium any advise please as Im stuck.

Thanks for reading.

Answer:Satellite L300 - recovery disc creator error - disc is scratced or dirty

Hi mate

I think you used simply not fully compatible and supported disks.
In my case I couldn?t create the recovery because the CD/DVD drive was not able to handle it.

Fact is that many CD & DVD disks supports different standards and properties and in many cases the CD/DVD drives have many difficulties to handle the different disks.
I think you should simply test some DVD-R disks.

I uses DVD-R and was able create the recovery disk.

Hi all,

I have a 13inch Satellite U400.
Due to problems with my Softkeys, illumination and hibernate status (any help on thos would be useful too) I want to create a recovery DVD with the Toshiba recovery disc creator.

The thing is: it starts when I have a CD-Rom in the DVD drive, but as soon as I put a DVD in (which is required) it gives me an errormessage that says something like " A different application uses this drive or no recording drives where found in the laptop. Error code 0D00E4-F0-00000000).

My DVD-drive is working properly, I can play movies and the drivers and status is ok too.
I have noticed, that the errorcode changes, but I don't know how to get the recovery disk creator going.

What can I do? Change something in the registry?
I don't know what happened to my notebook, I bought it a couple of months ago - new. I guess, resetting everything would bring my softkeys, illumination and hibernate status back.

So, if anyone nows how to work at least one of the problems out, please give me advice.

Thanks in advance,

Answer:Satellite U400 - unable to create recovery disk - bad DVD-drive?

Did you create virtual CD/DVD drives with such special software? If yes, remove the software completely. Furthermore if you have installed burning programs you should check if they will started on Windows start up and if yes, disable the start up. Therefore go to start > run > msconfig > start up. There you can disable the start up of the burning programs (for example Nero, CD Burner XP, etc.).

And what DVDs do you use for burning? I have good experience with Verbatim DVD-R and TDK disks. These are high quality disks and you should try it too!

Last but not least you should remove the upper and lower filters in registry. This is always advisable with problems of the CD/DVD drive:
1) Run Regedit (Start -> Run -> Regedit)
2) Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
3) In the right pane, delete the "UpperFilters" key, and delete the "LowerFilters" key.
4) Reboot.

According your problem with the illumination keys you should try to reinstall the Toshiba Value Added Package. This controls the illumination buttons, FN keys and other special function on your notebook. I had a similar issue with illumination buttons my Qosmio F50 and I posted something about this in the Qosmio forum that you should try it too!!!

Good luck! :)

How to use Recovery Disc Creator and what is the main function of Recovery Disc Creator?

Answer:Satellite M300 - How to use recovery disc creator?

I assume you didn?t read the user manual as yet because it explains pretty well what the recovery disc creator does.

However, this tool creates the Toshiba recovery disc. This disc contains an image of ?factory settings?. That means the preinstalled Windows OS with all drivers and tools from Toshiba. It?s easy to use (just boot from the disk), just follow the screen instructions.

For example if you install another Windows or Windows can?t start anymore you can use this disc to get back a working system.

The recovery disk creator can?t be downloaded. It?s only preinstalled on your notebook and included in Toshiba recovery disk so that you could burn this disk again.

But I?m wondering? Are you sure that you have used the Toshiba recovery disk? Normally after using this disk contains this application.

By the way: What OS is installed now?

As it turns out, this laptop (Satellite A305) does not have the Recovery Disc Creator included !!!...

There is no
Start - All Programs - recovery Disk Creator.
"C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\TOSHIBA Recovery Disc Creator\",
"TRDCLcher.exe" anywhere on the hard drive (including hodden folders)

I did not erase anything, as I was totally aware of the importance of creating an RD
There is only an "aplications and drivers disc creator" wich by itself is useless to recover the system.
Powering on the system with 0 pressed doe not bring the HDD Recovery Wizard either, just a series of beeps.

The so called Official Tech support said they could not sell me any media as Toshiba only delivers them to customers directly (how´s tat for a nonsense!!)

Ironic that getting Linux or a bootleg copy would be easier that taking the "supported" path... )-[

Answer:Recovery Disc Creator not installed on Satellite A305

Your notebook belongs to the Toshiba US series and therefore I don?t know exactly how it works on such notebook but on the Toshiba European notebook you could find the Toshiba disk creator software which allows you to create a Toshiba Recovery disk.

I don?t understand why the ASP which you have called couldn?t sell you a Recovery disk. I think you asked someone who didn?t know this.

Usually the ASP should be able to provide such disk. So either you will call Toshiba USA or the ASP and will ask for such Recovery disk again.

Answer:Recovery Disc Creator Error - Satellite L300D

New Toshiba notebooks are delivered without recovery CD/DVD and using Toshiba recovery creator tool you must create it alone. Toshiba has delivered notebook with ?factory settings?. that means recovery image is saved on second partition in folder called ?HDDRecovery?.

When you start Toshiba recovery creator tool it hold the data from this folder and burn it on empty media. If this folder is removed or deleted the application says clearly the folder/data is/are missing.
I don't know what you have done in the past but now you will not be Able to create this recovery DVD.

You can order new copy under
Of course it is not for free and you must pay for it.

I used Verbatim disks for creating because I have really good experience with this kind of disks. Furthermore it seems that TDK disks also work pretty well. Check this!!!

If it doesn?t work check the Toshiba page for a firmware update of your ODD!

Answer:Cannot start Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator on my Satellite A300-15K

Did you change anything on your notebook?
I mean if your HDD recovery partition has been changed or the data o thin partition has been deleted?

To be honest for me it looks like the OS issue. I think it?s not a single tool issue but I think the operating system has been muddled up?

Maybe you should try to recover the notebook using the Toshiba HDD recovery option and after the new OS installation on the notebook you could try to create the recovery disk again.

In order to start the recovery you have to press the F8 immediately after the notebook has been powered up. Then you should choose the first option called ?Repair My Computer?.
This would lead to a new window and there you could choose ?Toshiba HDD recovery?.

But note; this recovery would format the whole HDD? so maybe you should backup some data before you would start this procedure.

Guys I am using Satellite A350D-20K

before or the original OS of my laptop was *Win Vista 32bit* but I have choose changed it to *Win7 64bit*..
I have already downloaded the other drivers from this site for my new OS but it's not complete, anyway it's not a big deal.

I just wanna have an installer for *Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator for win7 64bit*
before on my win7 32bit there was a Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator ("but it does not have an installer on my CD backup I don't know why?")

I searched for installer here but the only thing that I saw was for Win Vista, I tried to install it luckily it was successfully done. It prompt's for restart so I restart my laptop then I tried to open the application but there was an error message that prompt it goes like this

"The Toshiba Recovery disc can not be Launched."

* I wanna ask you guys if do you have an Idea why it goes like that?
* Do you have an Idea where I can get the right installer for my new OS

Thank you very very much guys...

Answer:Satellite A350D-20K - need Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator for Win7

Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator is a Toshiba tool which created the Recovery disk from the recovery image available on the HDD.
It?s NOT backup tool like Ghost, etc?which allows you to create a image of your preinstalled OS.
If the Toshiba Recovery files are not available on the HDD then the Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator will not work!

I need to make my recovery disc's for my Satellite P300 (PSPCCA-05V01Y) but the Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator isn't working, as it is saying that there isnt a HDD Recover file on the pc.
I tried before, and it had a problem with the core files, saying it was corrupt.
So I was wondering if there is anyway I can download the HDD Recovery installation so that I can install it and bring it back to the 'factory state' and reburn the recovery disc's?
Cheers for any help

Answer:Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator isn't working on my Satellite P300

Hello Mikey

The situation is pretty complicated. When you got your notebook the recovery files was saved on second partition in ?HDDRecovery? folder. The second partitions and saved files should not be changed.

If you have done something with second partition or this folder Toshiba recovery creator cannot find these files and recovery media cannot be created. This will works with ?factory settings? only. but I see one other problem there.
Theoretically, you can now install OS again using HDD recovery installation procedure, and with factory state you should be able to create DVD but if the Toshiba recovery creator cannot find the files I am afraid the HDD recovery installation can have the same problem.

If you want you can test it. Try to start HDD recovery installation.

I've got Satellite A205-s5825
Well I am 4,000 km distance from my Toshiba Recovery DVD, shipped with the box.
No problem - I can just use the Recovery Disc Creator ... so I thought.

The laptop is less than one week in use, no partitions are changed, etc.
Well, page 59 of my user guide tells me to hold the 0 (zero) key while turning on machine to boot into the recovery partition ... no, this won't work. I tried it many different variations.

And page 60 tells me to use the "Desktop icon" for the Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator.
No, there is no such icon. There is the same graphical icon there, but it is for "Toshiba Software Updates" and not for "Recovery Disc Creator"

Toshiba Assist (program, executable) ... no, no assist for this.
I have looked in every path of C: trying to find this mystery executable ... and also all Start menu exploration .. nothing .

I need Windows executable for "Recovery Disc Creator". (need file name such as trdc.exe or whatever)
Does anyone know it?

(P.S. The repair shell when pressing F8 and asking for "Repair my computer" also does not provide the option to Create recovery discs.
It assumes you already created those when in this shell.)

Answer:Need file for "TOHSIBA Recovery Disc Creator" on Satellite A205-s5825

It looks like this is not a European model? Possibly the US series? So I don?t know exactly how it works on the US notebook series but pressing the F8 button and then choosing the option ?Repair my computer? would start the HDD recovery procedure.
This would be the same like the restoring from the Recovery CD or DVD.

The Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator should be also installed somewhere on the HDD.
I think you should check the folder Programs and Toshiba.

Best regards

Answer:Satellite A300: Does TRDC Reminder & Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator work after Win 7 upgrade?

Hello Igor

In my opinion you should create recovery disc before you upgrade it to Win7. I have done the same.
Later if something goes wrong you can use your discs and install Vista again using created recovery discs.

I don't understand why you want to wait and create these discs after upgrade. This recovery disc creator doesn?t create recovery image of current state but always the same recovery image you got with your notebook.

Tempro should work in Win7 too.

Do you have an original Toshiba Recovery CD?

If not, then you could order it from the ASP (authorized service provider) in your country.

At the other hand you could create a own image using a 3rd party application like Norton Ghost Utility.
Such software would be useful to create a won bootable CD or only a image file which could be stored on another partition.

However, if you want to restore you notebook, then reinstall the Windows OS.
All important Toshiba drivers and tools can be found on the Toshiba European driver page.

Greetings everyone! Problem 1I have a new Y480 (Windows 7 - 64 bit). When using OneKey Recovery and choosing to attempt burning 'recovery discs with existing backup image', then the defaults are chosen on the next screen (Source: Default Path; Image Path: D:\Lenovo\OneKey App\OneKey Recovery\backup.wsi), an error of: "The image file is not valid. Please select a valid image file" appears. The 'Select Another Image' option under the 'source' cryptically proves no help. Problem 2Also, It was stated in the documentation that system backups could be made to discs. NOT! Apparently the only option is a hard drive. It does not allow the disc drive to be a destination. BTW... the D: partition is too small to accept a system backup! Who planned that out? So... anyone out there able to help me make 'recovery discs with existing backup image'? Thanks!

I have a K430 and before I use it it (as with any machine I have bought) I wanted to make my recovery disc(s). Throughout this website there are guides to do this with version 7, but this desktop has version 4.0 of OKR I can save an image of my system partition but need the ability to install on to a clean hard drive in case of hard drive failure.  I have checked the Kb and forums and been through the Windows 8 programs but nothing points me the right way. This is compounded by the fact that none of my drive imaging tools like the Seagate drive that was shipped in this machine (Ghost4Linux, CloneZilla, Acronis Easy Migrate)  Where is my option to create said media?

Answer:How to create Factory Default Recovery Disc with OneKey Recovery 4.0

Just to close this one. I spoke to customer support on the phone as this post remained unanswered, There are no recovery disc to buy or create for this machine, so should the hard drive fail you would need to source your own discs. This machine will now be returned, a lost sale for the sake of a DVD. Must say the guy I spoke to on the phone was really helpful and courteous, sadly held back by company policy.

Hi all I'm new here, so I hope this is the right sub-forum for this question. I'm trying to create a Recovery disc for my laptop (Asus Zenbook), and as it doesn't have a CDROM, I'm following the instructions here 95 - Make a bootable Windows Recovery USB Flash drive from a Windows 7 system - RMPrepUSB to create the recovery disc on a USB pen drive. The problem I have is that when I look in the C:\Recovery folder, it looks empty to me. And yes, I have run the command prompt as Administrator. I can't proceed without this step in the process. Can anyone help? thanks

Answer:Empty C:\Recovery folder when trying to create Recovery Disc

We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Media Creator app the first day you had your new PC.
& made the Startup Repair CD.
startup repair disc-create

Did you make the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disks?

Before you start make your Recovery disk.
Disable Boot Booster in BIOS setup before you perform system recovery from USB flash disk, external optical drive or hidden partition.

1. Press <F9> during bootup.
Ensure to press <F9> only once during bootup.
2. Select the language you use and click to continue.
3. Repeat the step 1—2 in the previous section.
4. Connect a USB storage device to your Eee PC and click Backup in the Recovery System dialog box to start the recovery files backup.
The size of the connected USB storage device should be larger than 16GB.
Memory cards are not supported for this function.
A dialog box appears as a reminder if you have not connected the USB storage device for system recovery backup to your Eee PC.
5. Select a desired USB storage device if more than one USB storage device is connected to your Eee PC and click Continue.
6. All the data on the selected USB storage device will be cleared. Click Continue to start the backup or click Back to backup your important data.
You will lose all your data on the selected USB storage device. Ensure to back up your important data beforehand
7. The system backup starts and click OK when done.

I recently bought a Satellite Pro L850-1UJ with Windows 8

I've created a new partition (so i could use it as data room)
i.e. C: the windows system AND Z: my data

after that, i could NOT use the RECOVERY MEDIA CREATOR to create the recovery dvds
BUT the partition still exists and i can see the inside files from windows

IS IT a way to extract the files from the recovery partition or any other clue how i could fix the partition scheme so the RECOVERY MEDIA CREATOR could recognize it

Many thanks for your time...

Answer:Satellite Pro L850-1UJ: How create recovery DVDs from recovery partition

After changing HDD partitions structure it happens that ?Toshiba recovery media creator? cannot find recovery files. These files are marked with special markers that in your case cannot be found anymore.

I?m afraid now is too late to do or change anything. You are not the first one with this problem. We always write here that first step should be recovery media creation and later you can do whatever you want. You can even delete it.

Now you can just order new recovery disc at

Hello, I've used the recovery media creator to create a USB flash drive recovery media.

If i then use that to restore the Windows 7 installation onto a new hard drive (as SSD) will that drive itself have the recovery media partition on it?

So if I then lose the USB stick could I restore again by holding down zero when powering on?

Or does it recover the Windows partition and nothing more?

Thank you

I try to create a recovery media on my portege Z830 with the "toshiba recovery media creator".
Unfortunetely, it indicates "no restore zone on the disk": the only action i did was to create a partition inactive with the windows disk manager.
I verified, the recovery partition exists.
With the warranty, can i receive a restore DVD for free?

Answer:Portege Z830 - Impossible to create a recovery media

> the only action i did was to create a partition inactive with the windows disk manager.
That?s the problem. Preinstalled application is designed to find recovery image on specific position using so called ?markers?.
Now the application is ?confused? and cannot find it.

Why you didn?t ask here what you can do before you have made decision to change anything?

To get disc for free? I don?t know if this will work. Problem is that your obligation is to read user?s manuals and inform yourself about your new product before you change anything.
You can try to contact nearest Toshiba service and ask for help. That?s all I can say at the moment.

I just purchased a brand new laptop and have realised that it didn't come with a recovery disc or a recovery partition on the hard drive.

Just wondering if my hard disc crashes how am i supposed to reinstall windows?
The laptop i bought is a Toshiba satellite L500 and is only a few weeks old.

If anyone could help on the subject would be very much appreciated.

Answer:Satellite L500 - No recovery disc or recovery partition - How to reinstall?

Normally if I buy a new notebook or other product I read the user manual firstly. So I would recommend that you should the same before you ask different questions.

The point is that you have to create a Toshiba recovery disk yourself. Therefore start the recovery disk creator that is preinstalled on your notebook and follow the screen instructions. I recommend a high quality DVD-R medium to create this disk.

Furthermore you can reinstall Windows using the HDD recovery option. On the second partition you can find this folder that contains an image of factory settings and you can start this feature if you go in advanced boot menu and select ?repair my computer?. This is not a special partition, only a folder where the image is stored.

HDD recovery procedure is the same as Toshiba recovery disk. You get back factory settings too but the recovery disk wipes the whole HDD. The HDD recovery only the first partition.

By the way: Normally you did get this message:

+your system is equipped with hard disk recovery system. if you need to repair+
+your computer by restoring it to original factory state, you can do it directly+
+from harddisk (press F8 when you boot your computer, choose "Repair your computer"+

On my X220, i tried to use the windows 7 functionality to backup my system on an external hard drive. It is not possible because the partition SYSTEM_DRV is 581Mo and have only 230Mo free, and windows stop and say every time that for a volume bigger than 500Mo, it will need 320Mo free in this volume. So i tried to reduce the main C: partition, OK, but not possible to give this space to the SYSTEM_DRV Partition (grey menu). So this Lenovo is not able to back up the system !!  Is it normal ? What can i do to have windows backup working correctly ?

Answer:Impossible to create a windows recovery disk, SYSTEM_DRV too small !

The System_Drv is small by design and not intended for backup.  You need to provide a USB, Ultra-bay HD, network device, or DVD drive for backup, i.e. Another physical device with more space than your current systems usage.  Backups are intended to cover situations where your hard drive or computer have failed. Jim

I have HP Pavilion a6412p desktop bought in May. When I tried to make recovery DVDS I got error msg that Recovery Disc Creator had apparently stopped working. I contacted HP by e-mail & got reply that gave me all the instructions on how to make discs. I sent 2nd email re-explaining the question. Was told to download update that would help. Tried that, got another msg saying it could not be downloaded due to system requirements not met. I have no idea what system requirements are needed - could not find any info on HP site. Another email said that Creator was probably corrupted & since computer is under warranty I could get set of recovery disks free. Unfortunately, attempting to follow HP initial instructions apparently caused another worse problem. I no longer have my Removable Disk (E) - the DVD tray where I put DVDs. I
now have a FACTORY IMAGE (D) which contains the Recovery Partition. I know I can't delete this until I get the recovery discs. Can you tell me how to restore the Removable Disk (E) so I can use my DVDs. My graphic program requires a DVD to be in the tray. I also cannot open the tray using the button on the mousepad - I can only open it w/the button next to the tray. The computer can no longer read a DVD put into the tray. HELP

I realized my Toshiba Portege M400 came with a program called "Sonic Recovery Disc Creator". I am thinking of making a Recovery DVD(s) in case.
I have a few questions about re installing the OS:

If I was to create a Recovery disc, would it completely back up every single file on my C drive, or just the actual OS or system files?
If anyone could recommend me any programs which help or actually make a recovery disc besides Sonic, that'd be awesome!

Thank You!

Answer:Sonic Recovery Disc Creator?

I don't think that you will be able to back up your whole computer to 1 DVD. It will probably take several DVD's. If all you want to do is backup your important files, then just get your self a large Flash Drive. and Drag your My Documents, Favorites, and Desktop to the Flash Drive. You cannot backup any programs. Or you can clone your C: drive to another Hard Drive using Norton Ghost or Clonezilla. As for Backup "Program" Sonic is fine and it will backup everything, to several DVD's but you have to use it's Restore program to restore to your computer.

Hello,  I have a T520 from a former employee that I would like to restore to factory settings.  The employee supplied the incorrect password after leaving the company, so the built-in recovery feature is refusing to continue with recovery. Is my only solution to re-install windows from a separate OEM disk, then later try to attempt the recovery from the recovery partition?  Is there a simpler, less frustrating and time consuming method?  I'll be going around today and creating recovery media for all our other PC's to prevent this in the future. Thanks,Kyle

Answer:How to create &quot;Factory Default Recovery Disc&quot; with OneKey Recovery

Howdy all, Quick update:  I reinstalled Win7 with a separate OEM disk, and am working on reinstalling all the T520 specific drivers.  One new issue is that the built-in recovery feature is no longer accessible!  When I press either blue Thinkpad button or F11 at bootup, it briefly enters recovery mode but then very quickly continues to boot windows normally. I was hoping to use the recovery partition, but it appears that I cannot - can this be correct?  I should always be able to access the recovery partition, right? Any help on this will be appreciated! Best Regards,Kyle

I have Satellite A300-148 laptop
Since I bought I tried to create a recovery disc to format my laptop but whenever I try to open "TOSHIBA Recovery Disc Creator" this message pops up in my face:
ERROR: (5) "Access to C:\Program Files\Toshiba\TOSHIBA Recovery Disc Creator\Setenv.ini was denied."
What should I do ?

Answer:Cannot start my TOSHIBA Recovery Disc Creator

I don't know what is wrong there but only thing you can try is to install operating system with recovery image in hope after clean OS installation this tool will work properly.

The recovery image is saved on second HDD partition and to start recovery installation press F8 after starting your notebook up. In advanced boot options choose the first option ?Repair my Computer?. When System recovery options are shown please choose the last one ? Toshiba recovery option. After doing this just follow the menu on the screen.

When OS is installed try to use Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator. I recommend you to use high quality DVD-R media.

I have a Toshiba Portege M300 and as I understand, it came with a recovery disk creator, however I seem to have lost that program. Where am I able to get this again, as I do not see it listed on any of the Toshiba support websites?

Answer:Portege M300 Recovery Disc Creator - Where can I get it?

I?m not sure if you will be able to order it since the Portege M300 is an older series.
Usually this page should be used to get the recovery disk for Toshiba notebooks:

But as mentioned above, older notebooks are not supported.

You could also ask your ASP for such disk? maybe they could help you? otherwise you will need and genuine Microsoft Windows CD and the drivers could be downloaded from the Toshiba European driver page!

PS: you have to choose Archive in driver download form!

I'm trying to use the "Recovery disc creator" to build a recovery disc on a USB stick rather than burn CDs/DVDs (don't have a CD drive available). I believe this is meant to be feasible, see However the help file (C:/Program Files/Toshiba/TOSHIBA Recovery Disc Creator/TrdcHelp.html) for "Recovery disc creator" makes no mention of using USB keys.

I have an 8GB USB stick. I've tried formating it as FAT32 and NTFS.

When I try to open the "Recovery disc creator" program I get a window saying "Another application is using this drive or no recordable drives are recognised on your PC. Please check the drive condition." So I can't start the program Version of "Recovery disc creator" is

Have I formatted the USB key incorrectly? Does it need to be formatted as DOS start up, if so which are the files I should point it at? Do I need a newer version of "Recovery disc creator" to do this with USBs - if so can someone suggest a link of where to find? I could only find a link to version here;pf=true

Am I incorrect in assuming I can use a USB stick? Its a NB200-10Z with XP SP3.
Auggestions or links to other forum posts much appreciated. Apologies if I missed a previous thread covering this!

Answer:NB200-10Z - Error when opening recovery disc creator

The recovery files can be created on an USB stick too but if you can?t start the recovery media creator due an error message it has nothing to do with your USB stick.

I read the other forum post that you mentioned and the guy has disabled his security software (antivirus and firewall). Have you tried the same? Some security programs block certain programs so disable the software and try it again.

Recovery disk creator can?t be downloaded but what you can do if it still doesn?t work is doing a HDD recovery installation. This will restore pretested factory settings and then you can try again creating the recovery USB stick. :)

I doubt that this will work. I mean after Windows 7 installation there are no image files that you can burn on the recovery disk. So it will not work in my opinon.

I got recently my new laptop Qosmio F50. I decided to burn the recovery disc and so I did. But during the burning process I got an Error which is:

"Diference have been detected between the diferent folders:

Chemin source: (origin)

Chemin cible: (I would translate as destination)
(error code: 02016F-3C-00000000)

Well I have been through the diferent posts on this forum and I couldn't find out any help about this issue. Of course I bought new DVD-R TDK and I tried as well with verbatim DVD-R but it doesn't work.

Does anyone would have any idea how to deal with this issue because for instance I have still no recovery disc and if something would occured, I wouldn't be able to setup back my OS.

Thanks in advance for your help

Best regards

Answer:Re: Recovery disc creator doesn't work on Qosmio F50

For me it sounds like the final burning self-checking has failed and the application couldn?t compare the both folders on HDD and DVD correctly.

Why? This is not easy to say? possibly the issue is related to not fully supported DVD disk but I saw that you used the DVD-R from TDK? these are really good medias and should run.

Maybe you should try to update the firmware?

I am trying to make a standard recovery disc set like I have done with other computers from other manufacturers.  I keep getting refered to Lenovo Rescue System but when I go there I have two options.. back up the computer (a whopping almost 600gb's of data) or actually recover my system.  No where do I see a way to make the standard default discs in case my hard drive fails.  Is there a way or do I have to put down more money to order the discs?  Thank you anybody that helps

Answer:Ideacentre k450 no factory recovery disc creator?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !
It sounds like you have the Lenovo Rescue Recovery version 4 installed on your computer.  The version 3 had an option to create a set of recovery disks, but in what little documentation I am seeing in regards to version 4 that option was eliminated.  If that is the case you won't be able to create the recovery disk set.
Your only alternatives then would be to either purchase a set of recovery disks from Lenovo or use a third party utility like Acronis to save an image file of your hard drive to an external source.  The Acronis option would include the disk to boot the computer in the event you replaced the hard drive and then restore the image to it.  The other advantage to using imaging software is that you can create images of just the operating system partition as a way of backup up your whole operating system.  In the event of problems later you can just restore the operating system to an earlier time  using a prior image.

Answer:Satellite U400-15B - How to use recovery discs?

The using of Toshiba recovery disk is very easy! If you have created the disk you have only to boot from the first one. Therefore go in the BIOS boot menu and select the CD/DVD drive where you have entered the disk before.

The computer will now try to boot from Toshiba recovery disk and installs factory settings back. Only few clicks are necessary and you have to wait some minutes where you can drink a coffee for example. ;)

The disk contains an image of factory settings and that means it wipes the whole HDD and creates the partitions again. All drivers and tools will be installed automatically and your computer is ready to use again!

Answer:Satellite Pro U400-12y: How to use HDD recovery after new OS installation

You will be not able to restore it to the factory settings because another OS has been installed on the first partition.
Usually pressing the F8 immediately after the notebook has been powered up should enable the advanced menu on the screen. There you should choose option called ?Repair my Computer? and Toshiba recovery HDD.

But if this doesn?t work then you will be not able to use the HDD recovery.
In such case you have to order new Disk from here:

Before I start a very important message: I usually don't work with pc...:-) At my work we have an IT-department for our PC's :-))

However, now I have to work privately with a PC/ notebook and I need help: I am sitting in front of a Toshiba Satellite U400-11Q with a completely newly formatted HDD and unfortunately with NO recovery CD or DVD whatsoever !!

So far I have managed to format the HDD aagain and to put a WindowsVista Home Basic (OEM Software) from my old pc onto this notebook. However, nothing works yet ( I want to get into the Internet etc.)

Therefore I now need to put on all relevant drivers as well as the original TOSHIBA drivers, right ?

How do I do this ? Which drivers to I need ? Do I need to download all relevant drivers (totally 113) one by one from the Toshiba website ?

ANY help is appreciated as I can see myself spending the whole night in front of this PC..

Answer:Re: Satellite U400-11Q with Vista has new HDD but no recovery disk

For well working notebook you need to install all necessary drivers, tools and utilities.
All of them you can find on Toshiba download page under

All stuff must be installed following right install order. Here it is:
Windows Vista SP1
Intel Chipset Module
Intel Robson(Intel iMSM Driver)
Intel Crestline-GM / UMA Driver
AMD M82XT /M86 Driver
Conexant CX20561 Audio Driver
Marvell 8040/8055 LAN Driver
Synaptics Touch Pad Driver
Conexant Modem Driver
Wireless LAN Driver
Chicony Camera Software
Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba
CIR Port Driver
TOSHIBA Value Added Package
TOSHIBA Hardware Setup Utility
TOSHIBA Supervisor Password
TOSHIBA SD Memory Utilities
Authentec AES1610 Fingerprint Utility
TOSHIBA ConfigFree
TOSHIBA Speech System
CD/DVD Drive Acoustic Silencer
Toshiba HDD Protection
TOSHIBA Face Recognition
Broadcom V2.14.4.0
HDMI Control Manager
ProtonPack for Vista

Install all stuff following this list. If something is missing just continue with next one.

By the way: this machine runs perfectly with Win7 32bit so I strongly recommend you to use Win7 instead of Vista.

Hi there,

I tried to reinstall Win Vista Home Premium to my Satellite U400-183. I used a Win OS DVD that came with my other Notebook from an other manufacture and the Key which came with my Toshiba notebook. Everything worked just fine but in certain areas of Windows still are some specific settings from the other manufacture. Now is there a possibility to get a Windows Vista DVD from Toshiba?

Another question is where I can get the AHCI drivers. There is only a exe file on the support site which i can't use while installing Windows. There have to be these .sys files but I can't find them on the Toshiba site, so I had to install Windows in compatibility mode.

THX in advance!

PS: Sorry for my bad english, I'm from Germany...

Answer:Satellite U400-183 - Need Recovery DVD and AHCI drivers

A new recovery DVD you can get from your local ASP (authorized service provider).
Or you order a DVD from Toshiba directly:

The AHCI drivers or lets say Intel Storage Manager you can download from the Toshiba website as you already said.
The .exe file you must extract to use it during the installation but with the recovery disk you don?t need them.
Please read the readme file in from the Storage Manager, there is an example how to extract it. Use he command line
For example: -A -A -PC:\<path>

Hi all,

I have my Satellite U400, I created the recovery DVD and I used two or three times to restore my system. But now I tried but always failed during the installation, I think some of the restore files are corrupted and can't be coppied to the computer.

So, now am stuck without my orginal operating system.

Any one can advise what shall I do?

Answer:Satellite U400 - Recovery disk is maybe corrupted

How the files on recovery DVD can be corrupted?
What the problem can be is DVD itself or the HDD make some problems.
Check if the DVD surface is clean and without scratches.

Can you use F8 for OS installation?
Is recovery image still on second partition?

Help plz!

I was trying to run recovery disk using F12 key, i kept getting warning "this HDD is not initialized"-initialise HDD & restart. Are u sure u want to continue? I clicked yes -error F3e1000001(hard disk not found) - I clicked no it turned the computer off!

I tried different way by pressing 0 key as im turning the power on, since then I can no longer load window XP, it is automatically running "RAM disk image" then loading recovery tool & followed by the same warning HDD is not initialized & so on then eventually turn the laptop off by itself!

Plz help if you can! Thanks!

Answer:Satellite Pro U400 - WXP doesn't start & can't run recovery either

I guess your HDD is faulty.
Is the HDD recognized in BIOS?

If not, replace the HDD and try the recovery disk again.

my satellite u400-22z came with a big fat "hdd recovery" folder on the hard drive - yes I know what it's for,
but the insufferably awful version of windows vista that came with the machine made me decide that, in a case of system fault, I will not again install that failed attempt of an operating system.
So I don't care for that recovery data.

So those ~ 11 GB of junk sitting on my drive is bugging me, I cannot delete the HDDRecovery folder, it it somehow protected from deletion.

How can I circumvent that ?

Also, is it safe or can I make it safe, to use the seemingly hidden small partition (is this for recovery also?) I found, which is IIRC ~ 2GB or so big, for own purposes, without wrecking my current windows installation ?

Thanks in advance,

Answer:Satellite U400-22z - How to delete HDD recovery partition

If you have made a recovery disk and don't want store hdd recovery folder on hdd, you can remove it.

> I cannot delete the HDDRecovery folder, it it somehow protected from deletion.

You remove it as always you do to remove any files from your system.

I have a Satellite U400-PSU44E and Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit pre-installed, and having a few problems with my computer, had decided to use the hidden partition on the hard disk drive to repair the system.
I selected "Repair Your Computer" (or something similar to that), but having done so, a message tells me that,

"The installed program cannot start. Click OK to turn off the computer."

I'm not sure why this is. Can anyone help? It would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Re: Satellite U400 - Can't start the system recovery

Sounds like the recovery Partition is faulty. You can order replacement Recovery Discs from Toshiba. Which country are you in?

Another possibility could be that the HDD has failed. in which case you would need to send the system to an ASP for repair.

Hi there,

I just bought my nw Toshiba laptop (U400-138 to be specific).
It came with Windows Vista Home Premium pre-installed with option to recover it from HDD. During the installation the disk was partitioned as this:

C:/ 145GB - Windows Vista
E:/ 150 GB - Data

The E disk contains the HDD recovery folder.
The problem here is that I would like to use Linux instead of Vista and also I would like to re-partition the disk in a different way.

So here are my questions:

1.) Is it possible to move the HDD recovery folder to separate and possibly much smaller partition (6 GB or so) without doing any harm to its functionallity? I would like to keep it just in case

2.) Will I loose my warranty if I install Linux?

Thx for your answers ;)

Answer:Satellite U400-138: Can I move the Recovery folder

1) If you would change the folder or will remove the recovery folder that you will be not able to recover the notebook using the HDD recovery!
Therefore it?s strongly recommended to create an own Recovery disk using the preinstalled Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator tool.
If you create this DVD then you are on the safe side and you can change everything on the HDD. If something will go wrong you will be able to restore the OS using this disk.

2) No, you will not lose the warranty if you would install Linux

i have Toshiba Satellite U400 121. My recovery Disk is not working may be due to the scratches i see in it. i took the Laptop to the Toshiba service Centre and i got negative support from them. They said, they cant put back the Windows Vista since recovery disk is not there and they put the Windows XP in it and handed over to me.
later i came to know that the Windows Xp is not Geninue one. :|

I still see one of Partition "D:" having HDDRecovery Folder in it.

So Can i use Recovery Disk of any Other Toshiba Laptop model's as the recovery disk of Toshiba Satellite U400 121.

Actually i tried with another model's Recovery disk, In that while booting with that disk the recovery wizard starts up, but since am not sure of it i stopped it there and did Exit.

Kindly any one of you let me know if you have valuable inputs on this.

Answer:Re: Can I use Recovery Disk from other Satellite U400 series

I?m not sure what Satellite U400-121 series it is but you have to use the Recovery disk designed especially for this notebook series!

Other recovery disk cannot be used because the drivers and tools which have been implemented into the Toshiba image are not designed for this notebook series!

By the way; you can order the Recovery disk from here:

Normally you can start the HDD recovery feature if you press the F8 button to go in advanced boot menu. After this select ?repair my computer? and in next windows you can choose the HDD recovery option from Toshiba.

By the way: Which OS you have installed at the moment? HDD recovery is only possible on preinstalled OS from Toshiba!

I bought a new laptop Toshiba Tecra A10 the last week.
Today i try to make a recovery an error appear: another application is using this drive or no recordable drives are recognized on your PC. Please check the drive condition.
(Error Code: 0D00E4-F0-00000000).

Please help me to solve this problem.

Answer:Tecra A10: recovery disc creator error code: 0D00E4-F0-00000000

The error means that either your CD/DVD drive is used by another application or the inserted media is not recordable.

I think the error appears because of the inserted disk.
I read many times about similar issues and in most cases such error appeared because the inserted DVD was not 100% compatible.
In my opinion you should test different DVDs from different manufacturers.

In my case the TDK?s DVD-R worked fine but of course it?s always a matter of CD/DVD drive which is installed in your notebook?

So check soem disk and please report your results

I bought this laptop 2nd hand in the last two days with the factory default reset. However, I could only burn the 1st 2 out of 4 recovery discs using Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator.

I am running Vista Home Premium SP2 32bit. I booted to F8 reset to factory "out of the box" settings which went fine. I did this in case there was a glitch when the previous owner restored the factory settings.

As it had SP1, I installed SP2. I have upgraded the BIOS from 1.1 to 1.4, the latest. I have also installed the latest version of Recovery Disc Creator for L500D, after uninstalling the old version.

Downloads have been from

I have changed to another brand of blank DVD. I have ticked and unticked "Verify" in the Recovery Disc Creator. I also have the latest Toshiba Disk Creator software version installed. I have tried burning discs 3 & 4 separately from the whole set

I get no error message, only that the 3rd disc progress bar never quite finishes to the end. The previous owner never created a set of factory restore discs. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Answer:Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator only burns 1st 2 of 4 discs for an L500D Laptop

Hi peter333,

Try again but this time start the 3rd disk just before you go to sleep. After 8 hours or so it may complete.

I had to do the same above for myself for the creation of my compaq laptop discs.

I want to create recovery DVD, but I can not use Recovery Disc Creator Because Avira removed the executable file. How do I get it?

Thank you in advance

Answer:My antivirus Avira has deleted the Recovery Disc Creator executable file

I use Avira so long now and I?ve never experienced something like this. It is pretty bad situation now.

Toshiba recovery disc creator cannot be downloaded and all you can do now is to reinstall OS using HDD recovery option and then when notebook has ?factory settings? again you will be able to start this tool and create recovery disc.

Out of curiosity, which notebook model do you have exactly?

TOSHIBA Recovery Disc Creator gone a bit loopy.

When i select TOSHIBA Recovery Disc Creator from start menu all i get is

"Windows cannot find'C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\TOSHIBA Recovery Disc Creator\ ToRDC.exe', make sure you typed the name correctly, then try again."

It may have been me being over zealous with right click or delete. I don't right click delete on windows folder anymore (he he he) joking honest.

Anyway any help really appreciated.
Thanks in advance

PS: forgot to add that i do not have the recovery disc, Should have as i bought the laptop new from argos...

Answer:TOSHIBA Recovery Disc Creator issue - Windows cannot find ToRDC.exe

Check if the ToRDC.exe can be find in C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\TOSHIBA Recovery Disc Creator folder.

It seems like the exe file cannot be executed.
If it?s no available then you will not be able start this application.

Unfortunately, it?s not possible to download the Toshiba recovery disk creator.

I launched the DVD, it starts formatting the harddrives, and then ERROR!!! And then nothing! Does someone have an idea of what happens and what should I do? thank you very much!

Here is the command messages:
"unpack OS and System/WinRE
Error: Could not open WIM file F:\ZZImg\14637XSP.swm!
ERROR: RecoWMAInfo.exe did not run properly!
Press any key to continue..."

After I press a key, it gets blanck... gasp! :(
thank you for any advice!

Answer:Satellite L735 - system recovery impossible

Did you try to start the recover procedure once again?

In case this would not work for a 2nd time, you should get in contact with the disk supplier (Arvato??) and should ask for new disk. I guess the recovery disk is the troublemaker.

I have bought a new Satellite U400 notebook with Vista Home preinstaled on it.
I went throught initial configuration and after it has been done I realised that HDD partitions do not suits my needs.

So I resised the "Vista" partition (acctually I have shrinked it) and made the "Data" partition bigger.
I did not do anything with hidden partition.

Unfortunately when I did this procedure I formated the "Data" partition.
Now when I want to make backup DVD with TOSHIBA Recovery Disc Creator I got the error message saying that it is not possible because I have formated the "Data" partition.

Are there any suggestion how to solve this error?
The system goes fine, the only thing is that I am not able to backup and restore OS.

Thanks Vecerka

I've failed with bios update which I had taken the bios file from toshiba's official support page. I'm sure that I had chosen the right bios file. But something is wrong and my laptop is bricked, now.

I'm trying to recover the bios with Phoenix Crisis Recovery. I've tried 2-3 variety of the Crisis Recovery.

I have old, stable bios backup, so I'm trying to recover with this old bios file. I've tried Win+B, FN+B, Win+F, FN+F, Fn+Esc, U key combination for crisis recovery.
By the way, I'm using 1GB FAT formated usb drive for this purpose. The machine beeps every time, and I'm waiting for 10 mins or more after the beeps.

I've put the bios file to usb disk with a lot of names "bios.wph", ".fd", "bios.fd". Also I've tried to use usb floppy, but the bios file is 2MB, so I couldn't do that.

I've also tried insyde recovery solution. I don't know the right file name for the recovery.
I've looked the bios file with a hex editor, but I haven't find the file name (for example bios.fd or something)

Please *don't* suggest for sending laptop to service solution. I have to fix this in *1-2 days* and the service is so far from me and they work slow. If I send to service, I won't take the laptop for 2 weeks.

What can I do, What is the working procedure? If toshiba allow us to update bios, they must support for recovering it, too. ASP is not a solution for everytime.

*Any help* will be appreciated.

Best Regards.

Hi, I deleted the Factory Settings Recovery on C (~ 7 GB or so), and now I want to create a recovery media. I WANT TO RE-INSTALL WIN7 after using the machine for years. I always receive an error message window while trying to make such a disc. "The files required by this program cannot be found" Do you know how to fix this issue and create a factory settings recovery disc? Thanks a lot

Answer:Create Recovery Disc

If you deleted the recovery partition then you deleted the files needed to create the recovery media. I am pretty sure on this.  Without the required files you are not going to be able to creat the recovery media on that machine. Only options would be to get ahold of a Windows 7 DVD or order the recovery media from lenovo, please see this link for more info:

Hi, recently Vista failed to start on boot-up and I had to do a restore to partition one to get it going. Needless to say this is a lot of work as I lost all of my settings.
Vista (32) came pre-installed on my laptop so I don't have the disc. On windows 7 it seems easy enough to create a recovery disk from "backup and restore" but I don't see the same option in Vista. I have read in forums ways to do it but these were pre SP1 and I have SP2 installed. I want to know if there is a way to do it through Vista. Cheers

Answer:Need to create a recovery disc

Hello Alamshar,

The recovery disc created through "Backup and Restore" is not the same as your OEM factory recovery disc. The recovery disc through "Backup and Restore" can only be used to repair Vista with, and cannot install/reinstall Vista. The OEM factory recovery disc, can only be used to do a clean install of Vista with.

If you wanted to create the OEM factory recovery disc instead, then please post back with what brand your computer is and if it's a laptop or desktop. I'll be happy to see if I may be able to find and post back the instructions for how.

I have a question and am in hopes someone has the answer. Ok my Dad has the Vista64 on his Gateway computer. Well he didn't make the disc when he first got his new computer. We are needing those disc due to we had to take it to bestbuy(under warranty), and they are telling us they have to have the disc to repair his system due to it is corrupt and they are going to have to wipe his system clean and take it back to the original factory settings. This OEM Recovery Disc that is showing in this post and link, can I download that onto my system which is XP to put it on the disc for that? OR will it actually download a vista 64 into my system? I don't want to mess up my system so this is why I'm asking. Was going to purchase the disc but have no idea where to buy them at.

Thanks for the help!

Answer:Create or get OEM Recovery Disc?

First there is no link shown.
Second, what is the name and make of your computer. There is usually an Fkey that can be used to go back to factory settings.
You cannot make an OEM DVD at this point.
You may be able to get one for cost from the manufacturer/seller of the computer.
