Satellite C660D - flash cards are not shown on the screen

Question: Satellite C660D - flash cards are not shown on the screen

I bought a Toshiba Satellite C660D a month ago. Everything was going fine, until the FN key no longer displayed the OSD.
I looked on forums and there were various tips in relation to closely similar issues. I downloaded the Value added package again, I looked in the flash card settings and nothing is doing the trick. Could someone help me?

Any advice would be welcomed.

(ps, the functions work, but the display doesn't show anymore.)

Preferred Solution: Satellite C660D - flash cards are not shown on the screen

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

is there anyway of finding out which WLAN cards are compatible in my daughters Toshiba C660D-181 laptop?

The laptop is running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, all drivers/bios are current.

I've tried...

Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 - detects, installs, wifi reports 'no connections are available' - FN & F8 doesn't do anything

Intel Wifi Link 5100 - detects, installs, wifi reports 'no connections are available' - FN & F8 allows me to turn wifi on/off but still can't see any connections

Atheros AR5BHB92 - detects, installs, wifi reports 'no connections are available' - FN & F8 doesn't do anything

All the above cards work in other laptops we have in the house, Acer Aspire 5741Z (Intel 6230, Intel 5100 and Atheros all fully work and detect wifi), Toshiba L655 (Intel 6230 (bluetooth doesn't work), Intel 5100 and Atheros all work and detect wifi), Toshiba L450D (Atheros works and detects wifi).

I thought the problem initially was that the Toshiba C660D-181 is based on an AMD chipset (like the Toshiba L450D) and no Intel WLAN cards would work so I got the Atheros AR5BHB92 cards instead. The Atheros installed and worked straight away in the Toshiba L450D but it won't work in the newer Toshiba C660D-181.

Basically I'm looking for a card that works on 5GHz. The card that came installed in the laptop is a Realtek RTL8188CE is only 2.4GHz and we have a lot of wireless activity were I live, the 5GHz range is clean and I get amazing speeds us... Read more

Answer:Compatible WLAN cards for Satellite C660D-181

> is there anyway of finding out which WLAN cards are compatible in my daughters Toshiba C660D-181 laptop?

No, I did not find any details?
I think the compatibility depends on different things like BIOS or motherboard and this if always different. Any Toshiba or an notebook from another manufacturer supports different BIOS and different motherboard (chip)

But in most cases you can get all compatible parts from an Toshiba service partner... so in all cases where you are unsure, i recommend asking an service for a comaptible part

I've updated Toshiba Satellite C660D-16E (PSC20E) with BIOS version 1.60 and it updated without error. BIOS version file is DELHI10AB_10ABG_BIOS_160_WIN. When it rebooted it was a blank screen and bricked. I've tried to find older bios for this laptop and use wincrisis to recover the bios. It responds to holding FN+B keys while poweron without batrtery and LED on USB drive flashes for a while but that is it :/

after I have had a virus I couldn't find my SD-Cards in the workplace (I hope it's called "workplace" in english").
So I started the HDD Recovery and put the system back to the original conditions.

But now I have the same problem:
When I put any SD-Card in the Slot, the dialog in the bottom right corner shows me, that drivers have been installed, but I can't find my Card. When I put the SD-Card out and back in, nothing happens... Only after reinstalling the Card-Slot-driver from the toshiba-homepage, I can see the dialog when putting in the SD-Card. But again only one time and nothing else happens.

So, I don't know if it's a hardware problem(the Slot recognizes the card) or a driver problem(with exact the same system everything worked fine one year ago).
Does anyone have an idea? If possible, please answer in german, if not, I would although be very thankful for every answer.

As far as I know the notebook L670-11R supports the Realtek Card reader controller. I think you should try the Realtek driver from Realtek driver page.

There you could find the latest driver:

Wondering if anyone can help me.

I recently just rebooted my Satellite A200-195.

I found that my flash cards for my ?FN? hotkey function buttons have disappeared and do not pop up on top of the screen anymore.
However I am able to press the other function buttons on the keypad F1 - F8, part from the one that enables the mouse?F9?.

I have already uninstalled and installed the Value Added Package, Flash support utility and even tried to update the Bios but it seems my Bio is already the newest version.
After all this I seem to be able to enable my mouse pad ?F9? but my other function buttons are not working anymore and the flash cards still are not appearing like they use to.
Is there anything I can do to get my flash card to pop up back on screen without having to set my laptop back to factory default?

Answer:Satellite A200-195: TOSHIBA Flash Cards "black and white cards" not working

Have you tried to restart Flash cards?

What you can also try is to install ?Flash cards support utility? if you can find it on Toshiba download page.

Satelitte C660D 15F

Hi guys,

I have a big problem with my laptop. When I started it - from standby mode - two days ago, I heard the computer start normally but the screen remained black. No mater how often I tried to restart, the screen shows nothing, no message no image. The normal operating light on the side remains on but the lights on the keyboard stay off. I can hear the computer run normally (fan etc.).

I tried hitting shift F8 start buttom on the first night and the image was back on the first attempt when I started the machine and everything seemed normal again ! The next days though, I had a black screen once more and the trick never worked again, no matter how often I tried.

Can somebody please help me out of this mess ? Has anyone encountered a similar problem ? How did you solve it ?

My machine is now exactly four years old.

Thank you so much for your ideas ! I really need to access some files on there !

Answer:Satellite C660D 15F - black screen after start

Disconnect AC power supply and remove the battery. After doing this press power button for about 30 seconds and try to reset your machine. Leave it for a while and try to start it with AC power supply only.

If the motherboard is ?fault? we don?t need to discuss much about it. Your notebook must be repaired.
I presume BIOS chip is screwed up.
How old is your notebook? Is warranty still valid?

I'm having an issue with flickering horinzontal lines randomly appearing on the screen for a random duration (during all kinds of situations, web browsing, video playback, high or low cpu usage, etc.). Very similar behavior can be seen on these videos:

The motherboard has been changed already to no avail.
Based on sources around the internet the current best guess for a cause is the advanced power management, which dinamically changes the core speeds (in CPU and/or GPU). Disabling these (turing off PowerPlay, setting Windows power management to maximum performance, etc.) doesn't help though.

The issue's been present for months. 1 single BSOD happened, possibly caused by a directx / display driver issue, not sure if there is a connection.

Still couldn't reproduce the issue (tried universal stress tests, cpu-memory-vga tests, etc.). The issue is very random.
System: Windows 7 prof. 64bit, latest drivers from toshiba website.

Any ideas?

Answer:Satellite C660D-16E - flickering horizontal lines on screen

I?ve checked this first video but I don?t see anything.

On this virtual way is not easy to discuss about such issues but what I want to know is follow:
Have you tried to connect external display and check if the same will happen again?

In my opinion such issues can be result of graphic card malfunction. To find out what the problem can be you need time and more testing. Obtain second HDD, put it in your notebook, install original Toshiba recovery image and test it several days with ?factory settings?.

If the same will happen again and again it must be hardware related issue.

What do you think about that?

Answer:Satellite C660/C660D - shift key causes the screen to go black

> I am disappointed to see the shift key (left) as well as the CTRL key causing the screen to go black intermittently when typing my blog...

What does this means exactly? Pressing SHIFT and CTRL button disable the display and you are not able to see anything on the monitor?
Is this right?

Did you check if this happens using an external USB keyboard too?
If not, I would assume that your keyboard malfunctions and needs to be replaced.

A friend of mine has had a issue with my keyboard. The cursor jumped around and some characters were displayed twice? this could be solved by BIOS update?I?m not sure if your notebook uses the latest BIOS but you could check this too.

So this morning after trying to power up my Toshiba Satellite C660/C660D I was met with a black screen.

The power lights both work and light up, the fans whirl when I power up but nothing ever comes up on the screen, I was wondering if anyone could help here?

It's less than 3 months old.

Answer:Satellite C660/C660D will not boot up (black screen)

To be honest I really don?t know how to help you.
Remove battery, leave notebook for a while and try to start notebook with AC power supply only. Try to do it several times with and without battery. If nothing helps there must be some hardware problem so I recommend you to contact Toshiba service and ask for help.

Warranty is valid so there is no reason to be worried about it.

I tried to update my Bios on my Satellite C660D (psc1YE) notebook last week (big mistake).

Something went wrong during update and now when I switch on I just get a black screen (just LED?s and fan).

After having investigated, the conclusion is I have corrupted the BIOS which now needs to be flashed blind.
So I got hold of a 512MB memory stick, formatted using FAT through windows XP, and used Wincris to create a bootable disk ? having added the bios.rom file (renamed to Bios.wph) which I extracted from the latest BIOS update from the Toshiba site.

My memory stick has three visible files on it ? Phlash16.exe, bios.wph and minidos.
I plug stick into laptop with battery, DVD drive, and power cable disconnected, hold Fn+B down while re-connecting cable?and switch on.

The fan whirs at full speed and the USB stick lights up and then flashes for a minute as if being read. No matter how long I leave on, the fan keeps whirring and the USB light stays on and when I disconnect and re-start ? still a black screen.

I have tried different sticks, (up to 4 GB, with FAT32 format), different boot disk programs (e.g. HP utility) but still no luck.

Can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong? I have tried looking for a more recent version of Phlash16 just in case that was the problem, but cannot find one anywhere (mine is 2008 version)

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated?even if its just to tell me I am wasting my time because the pc is un-fixable.

Answer:Black screen on Satellite C660D (PSC1YE) after BIOS update

I cannot say you if you wasting your time or not because I don?t know if the motherboard ROM module is OK or not?

In most cases it should be possible to reflash the ROM module again using the crisis BIOS disk but such disk is available for Toshiba authorized service technicians and as far as I know such reflash method is not always the same?

However, in some cases it could be possible that the mobo could not be fixed by crisis disk? this would be the worst case?

I recommend you to get in contact with an Toshiba authorized service provider in order to check this? the guys would be able to use the crisis disk and could test if its possible to reflash the ROM module?
If it would not be possible?well? in such case you would need new motherboard :(
But lets hope you do't need it...

The FN key flashcards (that drop down from the top of screen) worked nicely for the first week of using this new notebook, they seemed to disappear by themselves (windows updates are the devil, so I point the finger at that) and I've spent an inordinate amount of time resolving this issue.

I have downloaded the latest TVAP and flashcard utility from Toshiba support. installed tvap and then rebooted and then ran the flash card utility installer which uninstalled the utility and then rebooted and then reran the utility installer, rebooted and still no joy.

my FN keys are still working, but without the flash card I cant see where im scrolling through wifi/bluetooth on/off.

What else can be done once tvap and flash card utility have been installed?

Answer:Re: Satellite A500 - Flash Cards don't appear

I had a similar problem that Flash Cards didn?t appear anymore... As far as I know it was related to an additional software that I installed? If I remember rightly, it was VMware?

So if you install this program remove it. Furthermore make sure that Flash Cards Support Utility and Value Added Package will be started properly.

Before you install newest versions, remove the old one firstly and start CCleaner to clean up the registry.

I hope it helps!

I have uninstalled, CCleaned and reinstalled and repeated mulitple times, trying to get this to work properly. I have also restarted after each of these steps.

I can't figure the problem out and thought that I'd see what you guys' recommend before I resort to getting Toshiba's support services.

I also do not want to have to resort to a system restore, but, if I really have to and have no choice, I will when I can.

Generally speaking, Toshiba Flash Card utility is part of Value Added Package so you will not find this utility for download.

Please check if you can find start > all programs > Toshiba > Utilities > Restart Flash cards option and click on it. Still the same problem? Can you open settings for Flash cards?

There is also option called: Allow the mouse to bring up the cards. Does this option work?

I have a Toshiba A200 1s5 notebook with Vista Home Premium preinstalled. c2d [email protected], 2GB RAM.

The problem is that flash cards utility is very slow. It takes quite a lot of time from when I press the FN button until the cards appear. Plus the entire utility runs slow. Sometimes it won't even appear. I understood you really need these flash cards to use the function keys without which they won't work.

Is there any known issues with this utility or should I just try reinstalling it? I have this problem since I bought the notebook and I never did a reinstall or a recovery. So all the software that came with it is original.

Excuse my bad English.

(Running Vista Home Basic on a Satellite L30)

The Flash Cards utility only really works if I use it soon after starting up my laptop. I often want to change the machine brightness after I've been using the machine for an hour or so, but the utility either ignores my attempts to move the slider down on the brightness setting, or shows it as at the lowest setting already (when it's actually at max).

So far the only solution I have found is to restart the machine! I cannot even seem to restart the programs instead--I can hunt it down in task manager and close it, right enough.... but then double clicking on TCrdMain.exe does nothing and the blooming thing won't reopen.

How do I restart the utility? And, have there been any updates to make this any more stable?

Answer:Flash cards (TCrdMain.exe) keeps crashing on Satellite L30

As far as I know you can disable and enable this Toshiba flash card under Programs -> Toshiba -> Utilities -> Settings for Flash Cards
Check this maybe it helps.

But usually the flash cards service can be enabled and disabled in the ?computer management?. Under ?Services? choose the Flash card service and start it again!!!

I have recently Installed Windows 7 64 bit onto my Mother's Laptop (L500 - PSLJ0A-01E013) and from downloading either version of flash cards from the support site ( [here|] )

Results in (from what I can tell) only kenotify.exe and the relevant install info being created. Using the other one results in the original one being uninstalled, and then the same thing happening. While kenotify is running, noting happens if I use FN-F6 (brightness down) or FN-F7 (bright up) or any of the other ones.

Also, Toshiba support station doesn't seem to find any "updates" for the software, and it doesn?t even want me to download the BIOS update which I haven't got.

Windows 7 is still in beta phase and still not available on the market. So support is still not started for it. To be honest I don't believe some other notebook manufacturers have started with Windows 7 support.

Is there any way to turn on wireless on a Satellite L505 without the flashcard utility?
I've upgraded to Windows 10 and flashcards will not install/work. Oddly, if I go into the bios and turn off wireless, then reboot and turn it on, it works. But after a reboot, wireless is off again and I have to go through the bios change to get it to work again.

What I would give to have the hardware switch on this one.

Answer:Satellite L505 and Win10 - Wirelss Without Flash Cards

Maybe stupid question now but do you have this problems if you use stand-by or hibernation mode?
I mean if this work don't switch your notebook off but you can often use hibernation mode.

Some function like WLAN enable/disable are controlled by additional software and your old machine will probably not supported for Win10 so I think you will not be able to fix this.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A100-065 notebook with Mocrosoft Vista operating system. Every now and then, I get a message on top of my screen stating "Toshiba Flash Cards are not responding". I have to close the message before I can proceed. What could be the problem and how can this be resolved?

Would appreciate any help out there.

Answer:Toshiba Flash Cards issue with Satellite A100-065

maybe because powersaving issues? Could be possible that the system is switching the flashcardreader or is stopping the flashcardservice due to this powersaving settings.

Just a little suggestion: remove all flashcard related tools/drivers, download the latest versions of that software from the toshiba website
( and reinstall it.

Maybe you can solve that error with performing a reinstall?

My laptop is a Satellite A500 and I've had it for about a year and a half, it hasn't ever been dropped or slammed shut, and until this point it has worked correctly, for the most part.

One night I unplugged it and turned it off, and the next morning the display wouldn't work. There was no flickering, and the display had never gone before until then. Oddly enough, some of the LED's on the laptop keyboard area stopped working as well, such as the touchpad light, the volume button, etc.
However, the webcam light and the power/network lights still work. Besides those issues, everything else still works and I can still use external display, such as a monitor.

Based on these details, does anyone have any idea as to what the problem is? Or how I should go about fixing it?

Answer:Satellite A500 - nothing is shown on laptop's screen

If there is no reaction on the screen there must be some problem with LCD connection to the mainboard.

Without exact diagnostic, it is not easy to say what exactly can be defective. Fact is that all these symptoms say that there must be hardware problem and you should clarify it with Toshiba service.

Is warranty still valid?

Hi folks,

i reinstall Vista without the Recovery CD and now the FN Keys works, but not all. I.E. i cant lock the Touchpad and the FlashCards also didnt come down, if i push a FN Key.
The User darksys tells at this Thread ( that it is helpful to install the Flash Card Support Utilty that is not available at the European Download Site. So i downloaded it from the Canadian Site, but at the Installation it tells me that I have an invalide Serial Nummber ??!!
I have a Sattelite A-210-10C (Model Nummber : PSAEGE-xyz). So I think the Install tells me that I have an Invalide Serial because it is for an another Model Series.

Its annoying, writing a text and then suddenly the mouse jump anywehre else because I touch the Pad by mistake...

So I hope anybody could help.

Please check Toshiba Europe support site again to see if there is never version for VAP. I have A200 and there was some problem with VAP installed in recovery image.

I have removed it from the system and installed latest version from Toshiba support page. Now by pressing KN key the flash cards are shown very fast and I can use al of them without any problem.

Check also touchpad settings. There must be also option for touchpad disabling.

I have a Satellite A500 PSAM3A-04200E. Recently I did an upgrade from Vista to Win 7. I used my system restore disks to reinstall Vista and then did the upgrade to Windows 7 using the upgrade assistant.

I find that I can no longer use the Fn key to enable/disable features..

I have tried downloading the VAP and running it. I have also tried the Start->Toshiba->Utilities->Restart Flash Cards. Neither of these have worked even after a restart...

Can anyone give me some pointers on what to do next?

Answer:Satellite A500 - Flash Cards don't work after Windows 7 upgrade

Hi buddy,

If you have already reinstalled Toshiba Value Added Package, you should also (re)install ?Flash Cards Support Utility?. This tool controls the FN keys and is necessary to get them working.

You can download it on official Toshiba website:

You know Flash Cards is transparent and moving flashy when pressing FN key.
After I downloaded & installed TVAP 1.1.7, Flash Card became a dark, not transparent and not moving when pressing FN anymore (shows suddenly when pressing FN).

What's wrong?

PS. I have A200-1M4

Answer:Satellite A200-1M4: Flash Cards are dark and not transparent after v1.1.7 update

Nothing is wrong. It is simply new version. Toshiba has offered this update and fixed one big problem. Using last version the flash cards were very slow and it was very annoying. Toshiba has designed new tool and the transparency is not available anymore.

I hope you know very well that such settings need more resources and notebook runs slower. But at the end I am asking myself: is this so important for you?

I am using windows 7 ultimate x64 on L500-126, the new win7 x64 drivers have been available since yesterday.....

However, the Flash cards (Fn Hotkeys) still doesn't work after the installation of the new VAP. The flash cards is able to show up at the top of my screen, I can click them by mouse, but the Fn combinations does not work at all!

I've noticed that there is a downloadable driver called "Flash Cards support", even I installed this application the problem still remained.

Then I uninstalled VAP and kept "Flash Cards support", to my surprise, the combination of Fn+F6 and F7 (Adjusting brightness) worked! however, without VAP I could not use other combinations.

Are there still problems with the new VAP for win 7 x64?

P.S. The new "Hardware setup" seems to be a problem as well, I tried to change some configurations in this application but after re-boot all the options went back.

I recently bought a Satellite C55-C-1F6 (PSCPAE) in a french store (Darty). The computer was running Windows 10 Home, but I didn't want to use this system. So I installed Windows 7 Pro, and it works great. Except hotkeys. By the way, Hotkeys are working (Fn + F1, F2, F3, ...), but nothing appears on the screen, and I don't find the right "driver" to install for the feature.
Anybody knows what is the program I need to run to have these visual notifications when I use these hotkeys ? I found some information about Flash Cards, but nothing on the "downloads & drivers" page on the Toshiba's web site (except a "Function keys" program for Windows 8 only, which disabled some hotkeys when I tried it on W7).

Thanks in advance !

Answer:Satellite L550 - Flash Cards stopped working after Windows 7 64bit repair

Wait a moment, please! In which order you have installed/reinstalled the Value Added Package and Flash Cards Support Utility? It would be interesting to know what you have done exactly.

I have used the following ?repair? order for this problem:
I uninstalled Flash Cards Support Utility and then Value Added Package. I did make a restart and cleaned the system by using CCleaner. One restart more and I installed Value Added Package firstly and then Flash Cards Support Utility. Now I did make the last restart and the FN keys started to work!

It?s important that you install the new versions for Windows 7!
That means Flash Cards Support Utility version and VAP version 1.2.34_64. I founded both on the Toshiba website :)

The problem is with those file TCrdMain.exe That file is for Flash cards, end running each time when I put my PC on (with starting windows). But I see that problem: "Run time error file TCrdMain.exe", and I should click close.
I don't know where can I uninstall that program, and where, can I find that driver(Software) ( If I uninstall and then install that driver, maybe everything will be OK). That's the main problem.

And One other question...
There are so many programs with that computer(laptop), and If I want to install Windows XP for example, where can I find everything (each programs) There are maybe 10 or 15 pograms.

That will be a big problem If I change my OS. Is there a site where I can download, everything....
Thanks for the answers, nd sorry about my english skills :-)

Answer:Re: Satellite A200 PSAE6E: Cannot install Flash Cards - invalid serial number

In most cases the invalid serial number error message occurs if you try to install a utility which has been not created for this notebook series.
You should check if you have downloaded the right tool.

But one question; Do you use the Vista BIOS version?
At this time Toshiba European driver page provides the 2.60 Win Vista BIOS.
Please check this!

Furthermore before you would try to install the Flash cards you should install the VAP. The value added package contains necessary tools and this should be installed firstly before Flash cards installation.

Firstly you should reinstall the Toshiba Common Modules and then the Flash Card Utility. Both programs can be found in the Toshiba Value added package.

My toshiba is Satellite U300 model no. PSU30C-TP908C with windows vista installed

I am getting into a big trouble for some reason, all the keys from "F1~F12" are malfunctioned. When i press them, they do not work as what its suppose to do, instead they all became the functions that you would have when you press them while holding the "Fn" key. So, now if i press F1, I actually get a compter locked instead of casting the help window. Pressing "U,I,O,J,K,L,M" would print out numbers, but if you turn "ON" the numberpad by pressing "F11"(note that i could do it without holding Fn), these keys will return to normal. Space bar does not work no matter what you do. The numbers "1,2" above "Q,W" does not work either.

Another thing i found out is that when i try to open the accessibility tools in the toshiba utility. It says "This system does not support this program".

I have tried to find updates to these utilities, but i could not find the ones suitable for my toshiba. I went to the toshiba support page, click on download and it prompts me to select my toshiba laptop and model number. However, from the list of toshiba satellite U300, there is only 3 models and none of them is PSU30C-TP908C. I did not know which one is compatible with my model, so i gave up finding the updates.

Answer:Satellite U300 PSU30C - Toshiba flash cards and accessibility tools issue

Normally you can find all drivers on the Toshiba Canada page for your notebook: => Support => Mobile Computing

For the FN keys on Windows you need the Value Added Package. You can find it on the Toshiba website. Remove the old version and restart the notebook. Then use CCleaner to clean the registry and then install the version.

But be honest if you can?t go in the BIOS because with F2 I think it?s a keyboard malfunction and this has nothing to do with the Toshiba tools.
In your case I would test an external keyboard? So you can determine if it?s an internal keyboard problem or not.

Good luck!

I have a Satellite P100-429. Three weak ago I install Windows Vista ultimate edition but now the highest screen refresh rate is 60 Hz. I have tried downloading the latest drivers for the graphics card but that will not work and the computer also says that the monitor is called generic PNP.

Before Vista a had a screen refresh rate of 100Hz and the monitor had its proper name Toshiba TruBrite WXGA+ TFT display I have tried looking for drivers for the monitor but no success can someone help me pretty please I get headaches for low screen refresh rates.

Answer:Wrong screen refresh rate shown under Vista - Satellite P100-429

Did you install the right graphic card driver???
Immediately after the Vista installation the OS uses the ?own? common Microsoft graphic driver.
If you want to use additional graphic options you will need to install the compatible graphic card driver.

But I would like to clarify something. The LCD or TFT displays provide excellent quality and resolution at 60Hz.
the refresh rate on TFT simply does not mean the same like on the CRT monitors.
The Response Time, Image Brightness and Image Contrast Ratio are more important for a TFT or LCD monitor as the refresh rate.

The display performance and the quality is not worse if it run on 60Hz
Therefore I don't see any reasons to change the refresh rate to 100Hz

You cannot use and VGA to HDMI cable?
The VGA provides analog signal, HDMI provides digital signal?
It NOT possible to convert analog to digital signal!

So if your notebook provides only VGA port, so you have to use and VGA to VGA (RGB) cable.

When you connect notebook to AC power supply are DC-in and battery LED ON?
Have you maybe noticed flashing power LED?

On this virtual way it is not easy to say for sure what the problem is. It can be power supply electronic. All such important parts are placed on the mainboard.

When i start it again, it show ups two error messages:
1) PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
2) Reboot and Select proper boot device

From then on i can not go to the recovery wizard (F8), it only appears these messages. I have deactivated the lan on the bios. The first message disappears but the second one is still there. The hdd is recognized by bios and the bootsequence is ok.

What i have done:

2) Try to install with a win xp cd, but it crashes after a while and gives me a blue screen.

What else can i do ? I appreciate all your help. Thanks.

Answer:Re: Satellite C660D-1C7 don't start

If you want to have factory settings again you must install recovery image using recovery disc.
Have you created such disc?

I need some help for my computer. My compute has not started, and shows "bootmrg is missing". i`m trying to put in the recovery CD(I downloaded from internett) When the CD starts, I get the choose to select operation system, but it isn't there, what do I do?

Answer:Satellite C660D-18C - need some help with recovery

You cannot expect that we comment some non-original recovery image download from internet.

Recovery image is on one language only so you cannot choose some different language. Recovery images are country specific so if you have recovery image for UK you must install language by default (English).

On which language is this recovery image?

Hy there,

My laptop (Toshiba Satellite C660D-10M) came with Free-DOS. I have installed WIndows 7 and all the required drivers from Toshiba website except the driver for my Network Adapter. I can't go to the Internet because of this!

From this page:

I enter the correct info:

Notebook - Satellite - Satellite C Series - C660D - PSC0WE - Windows 7 32bit.

A) There are no CHIPSET drivers for my laptop here? But i think they are merged with the DISPLAY DRIVER and i could install only them.
B) LAN DRIVER - after installing this driver, in my DEVICE MANAGER -> Network Controller has a question mark and is not installed.

Checked BIOS - it is enabled.

Uninstalled, found my NIC SPecific driver on realtek website. Realtek RTL8139/810X Family Fast Ethernet. -> Installed the driver for win7, ----- NOTHING!!!

I don't know what to do next?

Please can you help me?

Some similair problems:

Answer:Can't enable my NIC on my new Satellite C660D-10M

You are right about chipset driver. By AMD based notebooks it is integrated with display driver.

The same LAN card has Satellite C660D ? PSC0UE so the right Win7 32bit LAN driver you can find HERE . It must work. All offered drivers are tested.
Please test it and send some feedback.

Have you installed WLAN driver?
Be sure unknown device in device manager list is definitely related to LAN and not WLAN card.

Bok ;)

I've got a toshiba laptop (Satellite C660D PSC1YE-01U001FR) and it uses only 1.60GB of my 2Go RAM available.

How can I fix this?

Answer:Satellite C660D PSC1YE uses 1.6GB RAM of 2GB RAM

There is nothing to fix?
The notebook seems to be equipped with the AMD Radeon? HD 6250 Graphics and I assume difference, the 400MB, are used by graphic card.

I have a Satellite C660D, and after shutting down normally one day it will no longer boot. No lights on the laptop at all. Have tested the power lead/charger and it works fine, not sure how to test the battery ans there are a multitude of pins. It seems there is no life at all, wont boot no whirring fans or screen illumination etc.

Any help would be appreciated. It is out of warranty now.

Answer:Satellite C660D is not booting

Hmmm it is not easy to say what is wrong there.
Disconnect AC adapter, remove battery and press power button for 30 seconds. After doing this connect AC adapter only and try to start your notebook.

What happen when you do this? Is there some reaction?

I have an Toshiba Satellite C660D-18W, and suddenly i got the message that i need to enter password when i started the computer, i tried to take out the bios battery, no luck, i try to find out how i can reset the bios, still no luck, can someone help me?

Answer:How to reset BIOS on Satellite C660D-18W?

It is not known to me that BIOS password can be set from alone and it is not easy to say what is wrong there.
Fact is that BIOS password can be removed by authorized personal only. As far as I know there are various methods for doing this but it cannot be discussed on public forum.

Contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. They can do this for you.

Also lots of additional bleeps and grunts.

Have tried basic microsoft driver, toshiba sound driver and also download from realtek.

Answer:Satellite C660D-181 Audio distortion

is this from speakers only or though headphones?

if just speakers then you have faulty speakers and should speak with Toshiba if in warranty if not then take to a repair centre.

if both the you have a faulty sound board same as above if in warranty speak with toshiba or if not find a local repair centre to do the job for you.

I can't get the laptop to open, as I'm getting an error message that a USB or storage device was removed while the laptop was still running. it appears that a Internet Dongle was removed before shut-down. I'm getting an error message 0xc00000e9 I/O. The system suggests System Repair or Start normally, but each one that I try brings me back to the same error report.

I contacted Technical Support & they gave me good info but suggest I do a back-up or save first! I don't know how I can do this, as I can't open the system to create a back-up.
I can't find my original recovery disk, but I do have a few back-ups that I created some months ago.
Can anyone suggest how I move on, as I don't want to lose all of the files on my system.

Many thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite C660D-155 - Windows 7 is not opening

When you start notebook try to use F8 key and enter ?Advanced boot options?.
Does it work?
Is option ?Repair my computer? listed there? Using this option it would be possible to enter system recovery options.

Try to start notebook in safe mode.
Does anything work?

I have the following problem on Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit with SP1:
I started with an absolutale fresh install of Windows, and following Toshiba drivers were installed: AHCI, Display driver, LAN and WLAN drivers, Sound driver, Webcam and TouchPad drivers. At this time some of the Fn keys were working (but not all and without OSD indicator). Then I installed the Value Added Package, and just the volume up/down Fn keys (Fn+3/4) were working. I have tried all the settings of the Flash Cards application, but did not help. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the Value Added Package, but just with the Flash Cards application (the other applications were not selected). The symptom was the same.

(Of course I rebooted the system after every installation.) When I uninstalled the Value Added Package, the same Fn keys were working again as at the beginning.
I have tried also Value Added Pachage v1.3.22 and v1.3.19.

How can I use all the Fn keys (with OSD indicator would be the best)?

Answer:FN keys do not work on my Satellite C660D-1H2

Well, this is certainly a weird problem with my father's Satellite C660D-140 notebook.

A few days ago, he wanted to use it, but upon booting, it would attempt to boot in PXE. In the BIOS, the hard drive couldn't be found and the hard drive was not making a single sound. I assumed that the hard drive was done for, and since I was already planning on giving the notebook an SSD to speed things up, and had the data backed up, I ordered a Crucial BX100 250GB SSD, and installed that in the notebook, with the screws in place. To my surprise, the BIOS didn't pick it up either!

Then I did what I should have done before ordering the SSD: Checking the hard drive by plugging it into my desktop. And would you believe it: It worked fine. So, the conclusion is that the notebook fails to power the drive, so either the SATA power plug isn't delivering any power to the drive, or insufficient.

What causes this? Nothing weird happened to this notebook, it happened all of the sudden.

Answer:Satellite C660D-140 - No SATA power

On this virtual way it is not easy to offer exact diagnostic and all we can do is to speculate what the problem can be.
In my opinion there is some problem with HDD controller. I presume it is defective so what you need is professional help.

Is the warranty still valid?

Its Windows 7 64 bit
I had search sound's regulations,
Sound is 5-10% - but everywhere there is sett on 100%
I couldnt make it louder than that 100%,
I try Realtek Media + Speakers
Where could be that setting ?

Answer:Satellite C660D - Sound is lost

Hi janres,

Sorry but your posting is a little bit confusing. What do you want to make exactly?

You can change the volume if you click on speaker icon taskbar (left click) then you can change the volume. Furthermore you can mute/unmute the sound if you press FN+ESC key combination.

Did you already update the sound driver?

Hi all,
I've had my C660D for a couple of years now without any major issues cropping up. However, a few days ago, I switched it on and everything was loading as normal (the desktop loads fully), but then the fan became very loud and the laptop froze and was unresponsive.

It keeps repeating this problem, it is useable for the best part of 2 minutes then freezes again. I have managed to do system restore and even took it apart to clear the fan out, but still the problem persists. I have tried safe mode, but still get the same problem.

Please help!
Thank you

Answer:Satellite C660D is freezing after start-up

it is not easy to say what is wrong there and why this happen. If somehow possible try to back-up all your data and install OS again using original recovery image. After doing this you will have ?factory settings? and if there is no some hardware problem everything should be OK again.

I know it is most radical method but, in my opinion, most effective to check hardware functionality and test if such issues can be related to some software problem.

What do you think?

I just bought a Laptop Toshiba Satellite C660D-1GR last Week :
Windows 7 Home Premium
AMD E-300 APU with Radeon (tm) HD Graphics 1.30 GHZ
AMD Radeon HD 6310 Graphics
Driver date 28/06/2011
Driver version 8.863.0.0
64 bit Operating system
Screen Resolution 1366x768

My old HP laptop has broken up, and I needed a laptop to practice my driver licence theory tests and hazard tests (videos)
I also regularly watches dvdrip tv shows.

The one thing I realized immediately was the really bad quality of the video resolution, I am watching the exact same videos than my old computer, I can even see the pixels ...
On some of the drivers hazards tests, I can't even recognize the details of the videos.

This is what I tried without any result
I tried downloading latest version of Directx
I tried other video players , VLC, Media Players
I tried updating the video driver
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the video driver

Unfortunately all of this did not help

do you have any idea of what I should do now ?

Thank you

Answer:Satellite C660D-1GR - Bad Video Resolution

>do you have any idea of what I should do now ?
Good question but not easy to give you proper answer. Obviously you make comparison between old and new notebook.
Out of curiosity but do both notebooks have identical display with identical native resolution?
If yes then I can understand your question but if not then I really don?t know what to say about it.

Put original DVD movie or start some HD video from YouTube and you will see that video resolution will be perfect.
I?m afraid this software you use s old and designed for PCs/Noteboks with old ?standard? resolution of 1024x768.

So my laptop is unrecoverly dead ;(
(Toshiba Satellite C660D-1D3)
but the HDD still works (Toshiba HDD2L04 320GB)
the problem is, I protected it with a password that I can't disable.

I have the password, I also could save all my important files running it from an old crappy HP laptop.

But now I would love to use it as an external drive, which I cant as long as it has the protection (I tried a few pcs, none worked).

When I try to disable it in the BIOS from the old HP, it asks me about a second password, a master user password... but I have never had one in my Toshiba :/

What now? Do I have to go to a store and try it from another Toshiba or is there a tool to disable the pasword from windows or linux?

Answer:Satellite C660D-1D3 - How to remove HDD password?

The unknown HDD password cannot be removed… even the Toshiba authorized service provider will not be able to remove such unknown HDD password.
In such case the HDD will be useless

Take a look into this Toshiba FAQ:
Is it possible to remove a forgotten HDD password?

I have Satellite C660D-13H and I just wanna to work with win XP but unfortunatley i can't find any drivers for my model on Toshiba site. It is possible for that model to work with XP? Because that CPU is too weak for Win 7?!
Can somebody help me?

Thanks in advice,
S. Stoev

Answer:Drivers for Win XP Toshiba Satellite C660D-13H

It seems that Win XP is not supported on Satellite C660D and therefore you cannot find the drivers on the Toshibas driver pages.
But even if the Win XP drivers are not available, you can install Win XP.
But you will have to search for the XP drivers at your own hand.

Here is a nice document how to determine the needed drivers:

You can also try some XP drivers released for other notebook models like Satellite C650D

But I recommend using Win 7 since this is the best OS from Microsoft.
The CPU is not too weak. Even my 6 years old notebook uses Win 7. I installed this OS and it runs properly.

(Display problem, Bluetooth problem, Wireless problem, etc...)

Please send me the 1.5 BIOS update too, becouse i tried to update to 1.6 what is sucessed, but my laptop is terrible now.

Thank you!

Answer:Need correct drivers for Satellite C660D-1GJ

Do you really thing drivers on Toshiba download page are not correct?
Offered drivers are the same used in Toshiba recovery image and included in preinstalled OS.

As I can see in notebook specification your notebook was offered without preinstalled OS, right?

I believe you are doing something wrong so maybe you should install OS again with our help. What is wrong there with display, BT or wireless?

Hi, I've had this laptop for about a month now and everything was fine up until a few days ago when a few strange things started happening.

Firstly, at random times it wont let me scroll using the touchpad and secondly it won't let me click anything on the task bar or tabs on my internet browser and sometimes nothing on the screen is clickable at all. Another problem is, just randomly I'll be typing and the right click options will keep flashing up and if I press left click, it doesn't stop it, the right click options keep showing.

All of these started at the same time so I guess they're related. The only solution is If I use the task manager to stop explorer and then run it again then it works again for a while but it's just unpredictable when it will happen again but it happens for about 60% of the time I'm using the laptop. It's getting really frustrating now as I've got lots of work on at the moment and slows me down having to run task manager all the time.

Please can someone shed some light on what they think might be causing this and how I can solve it. Thanks :)

Answer:Really random problems with Satellite C660D-102

have you installed any programs recently that can affect a normal laptop operation? run antivirus to check for viruses if you have them. Restore the factory settings, then.

I'm trying to improve a Toshiba Satellite laptop for a friend of mine who says the laptop just isn't pulling its weight when doing things like watching films, etc.

I've noticed that the processor in the laptop is a 1.3GHz dual core AMD E Series chip.
I've also noticed that the chip has Radeon shader clocks on it as well, so it's not as simple as just swapping it for a faster CPU that runs on the same socket.

I was wondering if there's a list of compatible processors somewhere which I could use as a reference.

I believe the chip that's in the laptop at the moment is an E300.
I've done some digging and apparently there's an E450 CPU which operates on the same 18 Watts and has the 80 shader clocks and other similar features, but has the a core speed of 1.6GHz.

Before I attempt to buy and fit a CPU like that, I want to make sure that it will work in the laptop and that there aren't any better CPUs I should be using instead. Please advise.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Answer:Satellite C660D-1GD Compatible Processors

CPU upgrade is always tricky because its not supported officially by any notebook manufacturer.
Therefore you can do that but just at your own risk.

The notebook supports AMD A50M chipset and as far as I know the C660D/C665D/Pro C660D Series is based on a Dual Core/Quad Core Processor series with AMD Champlain core CPU.

CPUs with Champlain core can be identified by CPU ID.
CPU id numbers of Champlain CPUs are 100F53 and 100F63. e_processors

However, first of all you should ensure that chipset would support the new CPU. If it does, then there would be still an question regarding the BIOS support.
Unfortunately, there are no details if BIOS would support other CPUs since such upgrades are not supported? so I see just one option for you: you need to test it at your own risk?

Hi folks

I'm looking for a recommendation for an SSD for my laptop, Satellite C660D-10W

I want to do a clean build - I have a new licensed copy of Windows 10 Pro.

I bought a Kingston drive following some research online, but subsequently found out from Kingston themselves stating they don't support use of this device in my laptop.

Toshiba customer support put me on to Topaz who recommended product + service (albeit not an SSD!!!) costing in excess of ?250. For that price I can get a like-for-like replacement of the laptop, under warrantee!

I'm looking for a simple option where I can buy an SSD and do the install myself. 250Gb to 500 GB for in the region of ?60ish.

Answer:Please recommend an SSD for Toshiba Satellite C660D-10W

I have a Crucial SSD in my C660-1D7. It's transformed my laptop. Boots in seconds!
They have some special offers at the moment such as this 250Gb @?63.59

I've recently got a Satellite Pro C660D-187,
When do i "update drivers". I'm not technically minded so don't have much of a clue, unfortunately.

Many thanks, C

Answer:Satellite Pro C660D-187 - When should I update drivers?

I would update the driver only if I would notice some problems with my notebook.
For example if WLan connection would not be stable; I would update the driver for Wlan card?

But I always follow this advice: never change a running system? you know?
OF course windows updates should be always done to close security leaks?

How do you want to install WXP when this old OS is not supported?
I?ve checked Toshiba support page and there are no drivers, no tools and utilities, nothing. Win7 is supported so I recommend you to install Win7 64bit. If you need some help let us know.

By the way, your notebook has AMD A50M Chipset. Maybe this info will help you.
