Preferred Solution: Need Toshiba tools and utilities for my Satellite A660-149

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Need Toshiba tools and utilities for my Satellite A660-149

Hi friend ;)

All necessary drivers and Toshiba specific tools and utilities you can find on Toshiba support page under > Support & Downloads Support homepage.
At the bottom of this page you will see option ?Driver download?.

Go there, choose your notebook model and you will find all you need.
Of course, there you will find stuff for supported OS version only.

Good luck

I have a new Satellite A660 with inbuiilt web camera, but there is no Toshiba software (as stated in the Manual) to run the web camera, nor the face recognition software.

I havent checked anything else yet but not in Programs directory and nowhere on the Start menu.

Any help as to where to find the software ?

Answer:Re: Satellite A660 - Toshiba Utilities - Web Camera Application missing

Hmm?. if the webcam is available on this notebook, then an right software should be installed as well.
Please check All Programs -> Toshiba if webcam software is installed.
Additionally you could visit the Toshiba European driver page and could download the Webcam driver for Win 7 64bit.
A Face Recognition software is available on the driver page too.

PS: It's very interesting to know if both applications would be available after new Recovery procedure. if you want you can try to recover teh notebook using HDD recovery procedure.

I have a few questions regarding my Toshiba P200-17C but I'm not sure if I should be posting in the Satellite forum, the Operating system forum, or the Toshiba Tools & Utilities forum but, because my questions concern all three forums and as the questions are directly related to the tools & utilities, I feel that this may the the one to post in?

After installing Windows 7 RC 64bit, I installed just about all of the 64bit versions of the Toshiba software that are available for my P200-17C and apart from a few niggly issues, all of the Toshiba software and Windows 7 RC 64bit appear to be working just fine on my notebook.

Utilities installed: accoustic silencer, assist, chipset utility, config free, dvd player, decoder driver, flash cards support, flash media, hw setup, LAN, modem, SD utilities, sound, TEMPRO, Touchpad,* value added logical device*, webcam, wireless LAN.

The issues that I am having are as follows:

The six media buttons just above the keyboard which are the internet button, the CD/DVD button, the play/pause button, stop, fast rewind, fast forward.

Toshiba/Utilities/HW Setup

With reference to the first issue - media buttons - apart from the "Internet" and "CD/DVD" buttons, the other four buttons work when Windows Media Player is launched but I would like the internet and CD/DVD buttons to work. With the 64bit OS, be it Wista or Windows 7, Toshiba have a download called "Value Added Logical Device"... Read more

Answer:Satellite P200-17C - Windows 7 and Toshiba Tools & Utilities

Hello Dave

Until Windows 7 is still in Beta phase and not officially on the market Toshiba and, I believe, any other notebook manufacturer will not offer support for Windows 7.
I believe you that some tools or utilities work well but it is nothing but luck.

All tools and utilities must be prepared and tested for new operating system. When you download VAP there is must be chosen OS and you can download it for Vista only. So if some tool works is nice but if not there is nothing you can do. Just to wait, like me and many other people who have installed Windows 7 for testing purposes.

Hello everybody,

I have purchased a pre-order of Windows 7 Professional for my laptop and would like to upgrade it from Windows Vista Home Premium installed on it at the moment.

However, I just have one question :

- Do you think I will be able to upgrade from Windows Vista Home to Windows 7 Professional without a full install ?
- Else, if I have to perform a full install, then is it possible to install the Toshiba tools and utilities from the CD (I have not found anything to do this) ?

Many thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite P100-488 - Installing Toshiba tools and utilities on Windows 7

Hi Fred

As I can see you have two questions. ;)

At first I must say that I don't believe anybody here will be able to offer exact answers but here is my opinion:

Q1 ? for OS installation I prefer full installation but I think you will be able to make Win7 upgrade. Problem is how the Toshiba tools and utilities will work after this upgrade. As far as I know in the past Toshiba has suggested removing some tools and utilities before upgrade installation starts.
So maybe you should think about full OS installation. I think it is better solution for you.

Q2 ? I the whole story I see one problem ? what if Toshiba will not offer Win7 support for your notebook model? Then you will have problem and just try to use Vista stuff in hope it will works with Win7 too. Anyway, in this forum you can find many postings where people confirm that most of Vista stuff runs well with Win7.

Good luck Fred.

any body has the solution plz infor me that an important thing fo me

thank u all

Answer:Serial no. does not appear in Toshiba tools & utilities

Has the mainboard been replaced?

If the details in the PC Diagnostic Tool (Toshiba utilities) are incorrect, then the information needs to be updated by an Authorized Service Center.

Or it could be security software that is blocking the information. Try disabling/uninstalling your antivirus software.

So i wounder if there is anyway to get a W7HP copy from toshiba or who ever for free since i kinda allready paid for it? Or do i have to download it illigaly and use the code under my computer?

Answer:Toshiba Software - Can I remove useless tools and utilities?

I agree with you. There is some useless Toshiba specific stuff and some of them can be removed.
It would be easier if you can post which of them you want to remove from the system and I will try to help you with this.
>i didnt got my copy of W7HP...
Generally speaking everything is explained in ?User?s Manuals? document. Please follow advice about recovery disc creation. Create recovery DVDs using preinstalled ?Toshiba recovery disc creator?. I recommend you to use DVD-R discs only. Of course not some cheap no-name product but high quality discs from TDK or Verbatim.

Hello... I'm new here...
I have a second hand Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 - PSA15E. There was a lot of irrelevant stuff on the hard drive so I wiped it and reloaded Windows XP... no prob's so far... then I realized I'd need a Tools and Utilities disk to reload various drivers... oops... I didn't get that when I got the machine. So my question is easy... can anyone help?
I've managed to download a sound card driver but there are other things I need - wireless drivers for starters.... When I go to the Toshiba site (this one) they don't seem to have my laptop listed amongst the T & U disk downloads? ... so any help / advice / copies of the disk etc would be welcome... specially as I can't find an email address for Toshibe Customer Support!

Thanks guys... Andy.

Answer:Toshiba satellite a660 only 8gb ram????

If the manual says only 8 GB is supported, then that's what you are limited to. The chipset usually determines the limits, but sometimes the mainboard manufacturer/computer manufacturer can limit the amount even further.

Many Thanks in advance,

Answer:Satellite 5200 - need Installation CDs and Tools and Utilities CD

Hi Gislin,

You should be able to get copies of the Recovery CDs and the Tools & Utilities CD from any Toshiba Authorised Service Partner. You will need to quote the model number from your Notebook (on the label attached to the underside).

You can find a list of service partners on the Toshiba web-site.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Need Tools & Utilities for Vista upgraded Satellite M70-129

I found a official Toshiba document in this forum which says that the Satellite M70 notebooks are supported and the Vista drivers will be published. When?? We will see?
I have noticed that Toshiba publishes new Vista drivers every day? Now, be patient.

By the way: As far as I know Toshiba did not design Power saver for Vista for any notebook series.
Windows Vista uses an own power options and this options are very similar to Toshiba power saver.
So don?t wait for Toshiba power saver release because they will not release this tool for Vista

Hi everyone.

I've spent a harrowing couple of days fixing a problem with an audio feed to a TV via an HDMI cable.

The computer is a Toshiba satellite laptop A660 part number PSAW3A-07T00R and the television is a Panasonic ET5 flatscreen LCD unit.

I had almost gotten to the point of re-installing the original working HDD. I had installed a larger hybrid 1 TB unit rebuilt with Win 7 when I read a comment that some manufacturers load their hardware with "bespoke" drivers to "enable" all of the facilities that their hardware will support.

Previously the laptop would quite happily feed both video and audio to the TV, but after the rebuild of the HDD the audio was missing, on the TV, when attached to the TV via an HDMI cable.

When investigating the >Control panel>hardware and sound>manage audio devices options, only the on board RealTek loudspeakers appeared and all attempts to alter this to show the TV audio capability failed.

Finally, I discovered this site

downloaded the graphics and audio drivers and installed them ( I might say they were earlier versions than were currently in use). Upon rebooting, with the TV active, the audio channel of the TV appeared in the audio device options and became the "default" connection condition which worked without trouble. I suspect that other manufacturer's hardware drivers would be accessible at the same site wi... Read more

You can do this is msconfig. Start the msconfig go to startup tab and uncheck process which is responsible for the Toshiba Media Creator notification. Save the changes and reboot the unit.

By the way; it would be advisable to clean the OS and registry using CCleaner. This tool is for free and would delete all temporal files

I bought notebook Satellite U500-1D8 with Windows 7 home premium Slovak language 2 days ago.
I need to reinstall it to Windows 7 ultimate English (I need English language, Windows 7 xp mode). Where can I get or download Toshiba utilities - Toshiba disk creator, Toshiba photo service, Microsoft office 2007 60 days test version and Toshiba recovery media creator? on the web pages are not.

I hate upgrade version therefore I bought full version of windows 7 ultimate English.
Please, help me anybody

Answer:Need some Toshiba utilities for Satellite U500-1D8

Huh ... I am afraid you will be disappointed now but here is the truth:

# Your notebook model was delivered with 64bit operating system only so if you need Win7 drivers, tools and utilities you can download them from Toshiba support & download page but for 64bit OS ONLY.
# ?Toshiba recovery disc creator? cannot be downloaded. If you don't use original Toshiba recovery image there is no sense to have it. This creator is not designed to create recovery image for current state but so burn already created recovery image (data files) to CD/DVD media.
# Toshiba photo service is additional software you can use with ?factory settings? only and cannot be downloaded additionally.
# Microsoft office 2007 trial version is kind of ?present? for people who have decided to buy Toshiba notebooks and it is not offered as additional option. You can use it with ?factory settings? only. If you want to have this trial version then contact Microsoft and ask for download.
# Toshiba disk creator is also additional software and can be used with ?factory settings? only. No download.

If you have more questions let me know.

As I?m not mistaken the Satellite L300-08T belongs to the Toshiba Canadian notebook series and if you would need any drivers, tools or utilities then you should search on the Toshiba Canada website.

Here the link:

You also don?t post anything about your kind of Windows Operating system?
If you will not find all needed drivers on the Canadian page then I would recommend checking the drivers from the European driver website;
Maybe some single drivers would run on your Canadian model.
But note; you can try it but there is no guarantee that such drivers will function

Answer:Satellite A300-1G5 - Questions about the Toshiba Utilities

I will try to offer some answers. Hopefully it will help you. ;)

1. No. as far as I know this is not possible but if you don't need this application just go to exit and stop it running in the background. You can start it again anytime you want.
2. You can disable this notification in RUN > MSCONFIG > Startup tab. I don't know how the right name is but you will find it there. Just remove check mark in front of it and this will never start again.
3. New notebook models are delivered without recovery DVD and you must make it alone. Toshiba has created small ?reminder? and this reminder should tell you ? Please don't forget to create this recovery DVD. So please do is using "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator". This installations media you can use for further Vista installation. I recommend you to use DVD-R media only. TRORDCLauncher is Recovery Disc Creator Launcher . When the recovery DVD is created you can remove both applications from the system.
4. Yes you can remove them from the system. How? Control panel > Programs and Features > there is the list of all preinstalled software. Click on application you want to remove and click on the menu on option ?Uninstall?.

You can download some third part applications like ?Speed Fan?. Please note that thisr part applications are not tested and all info you see there must not be 100% right.

Please don't download driver updates using Microsoft update option.

Answer:Satellite Pro U500-10N Drivers and Toshiba Utilities on Windows 7

If you want to discuss with support team than you must contact Toshiba hotline and explain the situation.
You are right. Win7 is long time on the market but it doesn?t mean that notebook manufacturers support both versions (32 and 64bit) for all notebook models.
Fact is that older notebook models delivered with Vista are supported for Win7 32bit but all newer notebooks like your U500 are mostly supported for 64bit version only.

Global trends in computing, mobile computing and software development go forward and it is important to have always better and faster systems. It is the reason why all notebook top sellers offer more and more platforms with 64bit OS only.

To be honest I don?t think Toshiba will offer 32bit support for U500.
I have U500-1EX with touch screen and use original OS that I got with.

The Common Module software is necessary and should be installed at first.

Hi All,

I purchased Toshiba Satellite U500 laptop around 8 months ago which came with Home premium. now i am planing to upgrade it to Enterprise since i am using it for my office purpose and they have got the key for same.

from the Windows forum i see that there is no upgrade plan for windows 7 enterprise and i will have to do a clean install for this. i am ready for a clean install but how i can get all the Toshiba utilities like face detection, echo utility, recovery media creator etc. (the bundle of Toshiba utility which came with the laptop).

I am sure there should be a way for this and i would really appreciate any solution for the same.

Thank you.

Answer:Re: Satellite U500 - Win7 HP to Enterprise without loosing Toshiba utilities

Almost all Toshiba specific tools and utilities are offered on Toshiba download page -
Have you already checked this page to see what you can find there?

I presume you want to install 64bit version and all offered drivers, tools and utilities are the same that Toshiba has used for recovery image creation.

Of course some tools like ?Toshiba recovery media creator? is not ready for download. You don?t need this tool for your own installation. This tool is designed for original recovery DVD creation.
If you want to make own OS installation and configuration it has nothing to do with recovery DVD creation.

Please note: additional software like Nero, McAffe and other stuff you can find in original recovery image will not be available for download.

I have a problem with my brand new Satellite L670D-103. To install my design sofware (AutoCAD_32bit), I had to install a 32bit OS. So, now I'm running under Windows7-32bit and my CAD software works fine, perfect. The problem is that I can not find any TOSHIBA software (Utilities or Value Added or HotKey) that runs under Windows7-32bit for my type of computer. So the hotkeys are not working and my WLAN is turned off ! (I need to use the hotkey Fn+F8 to turn it on!!)

I've tried to install other version of "Toshiba Value added pack" from other kind of SATELLITE computer but it never works...

Someone have an idea? is there anyone from the Toshiba support to help me?

Thank you,

Answer:Can not install Toshiba Utilities on Satellite L670D-103 with Win7 32bit

I just made it work : I thought the "Toshiba Value added pack" didn't install but I just needed to re-boot after the installation and it is working fine!! then I installed "Flashcard software (as it is writen many times on this forum...)" and re-boot. All good! the hotkeys and the wireless are working! PARADISE!

The software I downloaded are from the L500 support page. Mine is a L670D....but it works...

thanks any way,

All my Toshiba utilities have stopped working.
Message pops up saying "*** have stopped working" windows is looking for a solution.

This was after updates were installed in the right order as posted earlier in forum. Not just the value added package but also configfree and PC diagnostic etc.

I have a Satellite P100 - 160 PSPAAE running Vista Home Premium.

Any ideas? I'm thinking it might be McAfee Security Center having something to do with it.

Answer:Satellite P100-160 PSPAAE Vista: All my Toshiba utilities have stopped working

I suggest you the following: Recover your machine and update the tools and drivers again. I am not sure if McAfee is the cause for your problem but if a system is broken on the software side then one of the most popular and useful actions is to recover the system and then to be happy when it works again.

Would appreciate some feedback on your success.

Hello everybody.
I've got an old fashioned 480 CDT here, used, but still works fine. Runs Win98 fine so far.

The Problem: The machine urgently needs re-installation, but I've got no disks for the Toshiba specific tools (i.e. HWSETUP etc.) which came originally with the laptop. (But a Win98 CD I do have!) Seems that they've been lost along its long way.

I didn't find a possibility to download these tools from the Toshiba support pages. Maybe I'm too blind so somebody can give me a link where to download the Toshiba Tools?

Where can I find these tools? (I did find the Archive section, but there these tools aren't listed :-(

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Where I could find Toshiba tools for my Satellite Pro 480 CDT

I looked on the toshiba sites after your problem and you could go to
in the menu Support & Download - Driver Download you could find a site to download drivers.

In the first drop down menu you have to choose ARCHIVE there is your laptop.

But there is only the Advanced Power Mode for W98 and BIOS update downloadable

it seems that the Satellite Pro 480 was only delievered with Win95.

It'll hope this will help you

Hi guys

I have just removed Windows Vista from my Satellite P300 and installed a retail version of Windows 7 32 bit.

My question is now I have lost the Toshiba software on my laptop like the cd writer software and the web cam software and the toshiba Tempro, so just what do I need to download to get all the toshiba software that was on the computer before. Do I need the tempro software?

Hopw someone can give me some advice please

Answer:Satellite P300 - Where to find Toshiba tools?

Hi sam2149,

It?s no problem to get the Toshiba tools again. You don?t need TEMPRO to download all tools, just visit the Toshiba website and download all drivers and tools that you want: > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

All available downloads for your model can be found here.

Hi everyone,
I own Satellite Pro M50, listed as discontinued model on Toshiba's official site - drivers and tools provided by Toshiba are only for XP, and several ones for Vista.

I installed Windows 7 32bit and I'm very pleased with speed of the computer now. Windows 7 was able to detect my devices (display, usb, wifi, lan) and updated drivers successfully. Everything seems to work OK by now.

Problem is with Toshiba tools.
MasterG (to whom I'm already very thankful, but I didn't find a way how to address him directly) has advised other user with older model (M100-221) to use VAP and Flash Card Support Utility for L500 series.
(for details : <a href="" target="_newWindow" class="jive-link-external"></a>)<br />
I tried it, and the Flash Card Support utility worked. Now I can use the Fn-key.

There are also some Toshiba features I would like to run: Power Saver, TouchPad utility, and so on. How could I find out which model has tools that could work as a substitute for my one or was it only coincidence that it worked?

Thanks a lot in advance, and greetings to whole toshiba community, I'm really delighted with this support forums.

Answer:Satellite Pro M50 - Comaptible Toshiba tools for WIndows 7

Hi bevo,

It?s nice to hear that you managed Windows 7 installation successful on your Satellite Pro M50 and you also like the forum as me. :)

What tools you want exactly?
There are some differences between XP and Windows 7 tools. For example Power Saver is already a part of Value Added Package and you can find the power saver settings in Windows Power Management of Windows.

The touchpad utility you can download from other notebooks. As far as I know Synaptics and Alps Electric driver should work on every model but you must test it, I don?t have Satellite Pro M50.

Furthermore such a list of compatible tools is not known to me. Just try it.
Important is that you install Windows 7 versions or at least for Vista. I think XP tools don?t work.

Good luck! :)

Hi I was wondering if my applications that were pre installed on my Toshiba Satellite A500 would transfer across on a custom install of Windows 7.

I have done a upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium but I want to do a full install on Windows 7 as I feel the upgrade does not operate as good as a full install of a OS.

As i know, if you make a full install everything will be wiped on local disk C: and you will have to install all application/drivers again.

Where do I start, planned to upgrade , brand new machine to Vista Business as I need to connect to domain - Vista home prem (OEM) is no good.

Checked with tech support who advised me to download drivers from the site which i did (why are they not supplied with the machine?)

Upgraded system, tried to install ATI driver it fails ! (notice this driver has been removed from the site). Password Utility fails (reporting wrong serial no), sd utility fails (reporting wrong serial no). Value added packages fails to install all components, specifically (TOSHIBA components common driver, and TOSHIBA Flash cards).

Tried tech support, who advised to upgrade bios, however that also failed!

*So now have amachine that will not read flash cards, no function keys work, and the toshiba diagnotic tool does not work.*

Apparently this has now been escalated, but have to say, it very disapointing that there are not clear instructions on this process, as I presume there will be many users who wish to upgrade the same path as I am trying to do.

Any advice or help in the meatime would be greatfully appreciated !

First of all I wonder why you said something like that ?:|
I think you are not newbie and should be able to install some simply drivers. Or I?m wrong?
You have visited the Toshiba European driver page then you have noticed that there are different P200 series.
Hopefully you have downloaded the right drivers for the right series. The P200-17C belongs to the PSPB6E. Check this!!!

Furthermore I have found a installation instruction txt file on the driver page. Seems you didn?t see it!
You have to follow the installation order mentioned in this txt file!!!

Good luck

this is what I want to do, so... please help!

I just buy myself new TOSHIBA SATELLITE X200-21K notebook, and I want to format it, and... to install Windows Vista Ultimate (Not Windows Vista Home Premium from Product Recovery DVD-ROM).

I was downloaded all drivers from...

... but I can't find "Installation Instructions" to download anywhere, so I can install it in right order, unless... if "Please click here to download manuals." is the "Installation Instructions", if not... please... where can I download that instructions!?

So... after I do this format and install new Vista Ultimate, I will not have... original TOSHIBA Tools which arrived with Product Recovery DVD-ROM, do I actually loose something with that, like... soft for Web Cam or TOSHIBA Assist or TOSHIBA Zooming Utility or Protector Suite QL.. and so on... can I go without that?

Can I install or download just this soft from elsewhere, after I install Vista Ultimat, maybe from Product Recovery DVD-ROM, but how?

Is it just Windows Vista Home Premium version that come
with this Product Recovery DVD-ROM, or... all version of Vista comes in this DVD, and You could pick which version You want to install?

I hope someone will help me with my "problem"!?

Thank You so much!

Hello everybody,

I bought a Windows 7 upgrade to Toshiba.

And I have 2 DVD :
1 for the Toshiba upgrade and 1 for the Windows upgrade.

I have run the 2 first steps without problems.

But when I have run the 3rd step (which is the upgrade of the Toshiba tools), an error occured and I wanted to cancel thee process (I have even removed the CD from the CD reader) but the process kept running.

In conclusion the process went to the end but no tools are installed and when I want to run the CD again it acts as if all the tools are already installed and it doesn't run.

What can I do for the system to consider that the tools are not installed ?

Or where can I find another install program which will run the Toshiba tools on my system ?

Thank you very much.

Please help

I purchased 2 of these laptops for my boys for high school. They came loaded with Windows 7 although I received an offer to update to Windows 8 for a special price which I did.

In the process of doing this it instructed me that there were some conflicts with some programs that I had to uninstall and then reinstall afterwards.

The programs I had to delete were:
Toshiba Disc Creator
Toshiba Face Recognition
Toshiba Health Monitor
Intel USB 3.0
Extensible Host Control Driver
Toshiba LAN Indicator
Toshiba Recovery Media Creator

Where do I find these programs to download? I did look up Toshiba and entered the computer model but it didn't recognise the last part of the model (PSK DLA).
I just want to make sure I am downloading the correct programs again.

I am also now having a problem with playing videos after downloading WIndows 8. I can hear the sound but I don't get the picture. This is also happening on my HP laptop. I am using the Radeon Graphics AMD (sorry, I know this is going to show that I have a computer with no idea).

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Answer:Satellite L850 PSKDLA: Need Toshiba tools which were removed before Win 8 upgrade

All Windows 8 drivers are available on Toshiba EU driver page.
If some tools are missing then this means that such tools don?t exist for Win 8 at this time.

>Toshiba Recovery Media Creator
This is only a part of Toshiba image. The recovery disk creator creates recovery image from the system preinstalled by Toshiba. If you upgraded the system to Win 8, you will need to use another tools to create an system image.

Here also a nice documentation - Windows 8 Upgrade - Notes and Restrictions

By the way: Some drivers for Win 7 are compatible with Win 8
So you can also install the Intel USB 3.0 driver which was released for Win 7 on Windows 8 preinstalled notebook.

I have just purchased the Toshiba Satellie P200-17C Notebook and I have one or two questions which I hope can be answered in this forum? aShop=true

1. Under 'bundled software' at the link above, it states that the "Toshiba Value Added Package" is included but I do not see this CD/DVD in the box. (My Equium L10 had a Value Added CD in the box).

Toshiba User's Manual
Norton Internet Security 2007 (includes free Internet updates for 90 days)
Ulead DVD MovieWriter for TOSHIBA

Chicony Camera Assistant Software
Toshiba DVD Player
Microsoft Works 8.5 (with Office Home and Student 2007 Trial)

Why is the Value Added Package not inlcuded and what exactly is included on the CD/DVD for the P200-17C? I am also not sure if I have all of the above either. I.e. ConfigFree, Connectivity Doctor, Toshiba Assist etc, but I will check over the next few hours and post back.

The Toshiba value added package is a collection of different single Toshiba applications like TOSHIBA Components Common Driver, TOSHIBA Power Saver, TOSHIBA Password Utility, TOSHIBA Flash Cards, etc?

All this applications are already installed on the Toshiba image which is placed on the Toshiba recovery CD.

>Microsoft Windows HotStart for instant-on entertainment
As far as I know Windows Hotstart in the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system provides built-in support for launching applications directly from system startup.
Manufacturers can take advantage of Windows HotStart to add consumer-friendly application-access buttons through chassis front panels.
In your case this are the Toshiba control buttons for example.

>What CD/DVD writing software is included?

There should be an preinstalled tool called Toshiba Disc creator.
Using this too you can create original audio CD, data CD and DVD and backup discs of CD and DVD

Hope I have clarified everything

Hello All,

Just bought Toshiba Model: Circuit City. I see that the Google Toolbar is already installed. Probably installed by Circuit City and not Toshiba. Has anyone tried to uninstall this bloatware?

I have not yet tried uninstall. I can only think that this would not be a simple uninstall thru the Windows uninstall program.

Has anyone had experience doing the removal? Also,
Are there any other preinstalled programs that could slow down the notebooks resources... that should be unstalled?

Thanks everyone for your help.

Hello everyone,

recently switched to Windows Vista with my Satellite M30X.
Unfortunately I cannot manage my power options, because Windows doesn't let me to do so with reference to using original Toshiba power tools instead, but those I received along with my laptop are not compatible with Vista.
There are no files available in this category on Toshiba download site.

Do you have any ideas where to get these tools? Either Toshiba or something different, but still compatible with Toshiba and Vista?
Or at least how to enable inbuilt advanced power management options in Windows?

Thanks a lot for any advice!

The Toshiba Power saver for Vista was not released for Satellite M30X and it looks like you have to use the Vista own power options.
But to be honest the Vista own power options are not bad and could be configured easily.

My toshiba is Satellite U300 model no. PSU30C-TP908C with windows vista installed

I am getting into a big trouble for some reason, all the keys from "F1~F12" are malfunctioned. When i press them, they do not work as what its suppose to do, instead they all became the functions that you would have when you press them while holding the "Fn" key. So, now if i press F1, I actually get a compter locked instead of casting the help window. Pressing "U,I,O,J,K,L,M" would print out numbers, but if you turn "ON" the numberpad by pressing "F11"(note that i could do it without holding Fn), these keys will return to normal. Space bar does not work no matter what you do. The numbers "1,2" above "Q,W" does not work either.

Another thing i found out is that when i try to open the accessibility tools in the toshiba utility. It says "This system does not support this program".

I have tried to find updates to these utilities, but i could not find the ones suitable for my toshiba. I went to the toshiba support page, click on download and it prompts me to select my toshiba laptop and model number. However, from the list of toshiba satellite U300, there is only 3 models and none of them is PSU30C-TP908C. I did not know which one is compatible with my model, so i gave up finding the updates.

Answer:Satellite U300 PSU30C - Toshiba flash cards and accessibility tools issue

Normally you can find all drivers on the Toshiba Canada page for your notebook: => Support => Mobile Computing

For the FN keys on Windows you need the Value Added Package. You can find it on the Toshiba website. Remove the old version and restart the notebook. Then use CCleaner to clean the registry and then install the version.

But be honest if you can?t go in the BIOS because with F2 I think it?s a keyboard malfunction and this has nothing to do with the Toshiba tools.
In your case I would test an external keyboard? So you can determine if it?s an internal keyboard problem or not.

Good luck!

A couple of days ago I received my new brand Toshiba A660 12t. Everything is perfect except the fan noise. It is loud for me especially that I often use the laptop in the library. For simple tasks the fan works between 59% and 67%. I tried different things from playing with the power settings to upgrading the Bios and the graphic card but nothing has changed.

Now I want to turn it back and change it with the Toshiba A660-1FL. Why this one? Both laptops have the same characteristics and the same price except the Graphic card and the CPU. mine comes with Nvidia 330-m and I5-430. on the other side, the A660-1FL comes with the Intel integrated GMA HD and the I5-460.
I thought may be the Graphic card is the reason!!!
Does anybody know if the fan noise will be reduced if I will use a less dedicated graphic card? Shall I change? in this case is the GMA HD a good graphic card?
If somebody is using a Toshiba A660-1FL, could you please tell me if the fan is also loud?

I appreciate your help. Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite A660-12T / A660-1FL - Which one has less fan noise?

nVidia GPU is powerful graphic card and mostly such cards are designed for gaming.
The Intel GPU is also a good graphic chip but it?s not powerful as the nvidia chip.
The nVidia chip would allow running apps much smother but it creates more heat.

This would affect the cooling fans which mean that fans would run faster and often.
So theoretically the notebook with Intel GPU should be a little bit quite.

thought that I would post a question here regarding the above 2 programs. they were mentioned in the Calendar of Updates Forum which BC is an affiliate of.

i have looked at what is available on the net regarding them and am sort of leaning toward the purchase of Ace Utilities, however, it would be nice if I had some feedback from direct users.
This program to me from what I have read seems to offer a little more options and flexibiltiy in back up as well as zeroing in on duplicate files or specific files that may still be there after an uninstall.

Comments appreciated. Again getting either program is not a problem for me.

Answer:Ace utilities and jv16 power tools

I've been using jv16 for years and it used to work fine, the "registy cleaner" was it's best feature , lately something is not working properly with the software and when you clean the registry you cannot start the defragmentation.
So I tried Ace and some features are nice, but the registry cleaning is not ad good as I was expecting.
In my opinion RegSuprem Pro from Macecraft is better, you have a backup folder for every feature the program offers, the cleaning comes in two ways (normal and deep) and it works fine.
By the way: Macecraft sells both Jv16 and RegSupreme.
Hope to have been of some help.

1) I'm aware of GIF and JPEG image formats, but what is FAST?

2) I am aware of the program UniqueFiler, which can find duplicates of image files, among other capabilities. However, I wish to know if there is a program that, given an image cropped from another image, could find the original image file. Is there such a utility?

3) Not knowing otherwise, I would have to say that UniqueFiler is a pretty good program. I was wondering if there are other programs which may have eclipsed this utility?

4) What shareware/freeware tools and utilties are deemed essential or useful for those who play with graphic images, most notably JPEG and sometimes GIF? (I already use Paint Shop Pro 5 and UniqueFiler, but I am wondering if there are other tools especially noteworthy and useful to have.)

I am working with a Tecra A9 PTS52E laptop which had WinXP running on it.
I recently upgraded to Win7, but not from a Toshiba install disk.

I found a number (not all) drivers for tecra a9/win7 online;
but some things still don't seem to be working correctly.

first of all, I installed the Value Added Package 20100419152838,
but OSD and the Toshiba power manager don't work. Instead win7 keeps telling me my battery is broken (?) Is there a way this can be fixed?

I also had trouble finding Toshiba Disk Creator, and I couldn't make Toshiba Security Assist work properly...

Answer:Several tools/utilities don't work after Win7 upgrade

If I understand you right you have made clean Win7 installation using original Microsoft installation disc. Can you confirm this?

I must also say that all stuff must be installed in right order. I don?t know how you have done this but I hope most of preinstalled things work properly.
VAP. What is OSD and what is wrong with battery? Is battery not recognized properly?

Toshiba Disc creator is additional software offered with original recovery image only and it is not available for download?

I know what ?Toshiba Assist? is but can you please tell me what ?Toshiba Security Assist?is?

I recently purchased a new Portege M100 but did not receive the accompanying Tools & Utilities CD ROM. I would like to perform a clean installation with a standard Windows XP SP2 CD (not the Toshiba Recovery CD)and have downloaded the necessary drivers and utilities from the support website.

Can someone please list the exact order (in accordance with the Tools & Utilities CD) to use when installing the drivers and utilities for a Windows XP system? The Windows updates (Quick Fix Engineering executables) are not necessary, since I'll have already downloaded all Windows updates prior to continuing with the drivers installation.
Thanks for your help!

Answer:Portege M100 - WinXP Tools & Utilities Installation Sequence

As far as I know after the Windows installation you have to install the Chipset utility and then common modules. Then display driver, sound driver, controls etc.
But why do you want to install the OS from the original Windows CD?
You can use the Recovery CD and then you can remove all programs which you don?t need.
Believe me. This is an easiest way.

Hey, I just received my new system today, an Alienware m5500, which looks and acts amasing, but I was disappoited Alienware don't offer any laptop utilities, so the only real options to save on battery life are the windows ones. Toshiba I know for a fact have a very interesting piece of software that can slow down the processor, fan and graphics to get more out of a fully charged battery.Does anybody know of any good software utilities for laptops that can control hardware settings to save battery power?ThanksBobly

Answer:Laptop Utilities - Example : Toshiba?

Even more simple is to use power saving methods such as listed here:click hereI don't know if IBM's Battery Maximiser software would work on your model. Perhaps someone could advise:click here

I have a new Toshiba Tecra A7. For some reason, Toshiba doesn't preload some utilities, including their Hotkey Utilities (you press the Fn key and mute, dim, brighten, etc. by pressing different F keys). So Toshiba sends the app for you to install separately.
Something is blocking the install of the Hotkey Utilities (HU) on my machine. I load the app. No errors during installation. But no success.
I've downloaded the app from Toshiba's web site and I've run that in case the app they sent me is corrupted. That doesn't work either.
Toshiba tech support thinks there's another program I have running/installed that's blocking the installation of HU. Of course, they have no guesses what it might be so they recommend running a recovery disk which would zero out all the development I've done. Big help.
I've done an internet search for this problem and found other frustrated users with different Toshiba machines. Here's one saga

No solutions found so far. Any ideas?

Hello, can someone explain to me how to re-install Toshiba Utilities (eg. Eco Utility) cleared when moving to Windows 10, insofar as the Toshiba Service Station said that we should erase from first the older versions to be new? I do not mean the drivers, since in fact I no longer Utilities in question and I do not see where you can download (Satellite S50 B)
Big thank you in advance!

I have exactly the same issue with Toshiba Video Player. I downloaded the drivers and tried to install it again, but I receive en error saying that I don`t have the Video Player in my PC. Of course I don`t have it, I just uninstalled it following Service Station instructions.

HI all,

I just got a new Tecra A8 - it is downgraded to XP and none of the Toshiba utilities work (power saver, function keeys, hot keys etc). When I try to reinstall them - there is always an error message (missing dll, or sth similar) - I tried to updated the bios - couldn't - again missing a file!

any ideas how to fix this? at least the fn buttons (fn button works - I can see a light coming on when I press - not the functions though!)

your help i greatly appreciated!

Answer:Tecra A8 downgraded to XP and none of the Toshiba utilities work

Hi Dimitris

May I ask you what Tecra A8 you have???
I visited the Toshiba driver page and it seems that the Toshiba provides XP drivers for two different A8 units -> PTA82E and PTA83E.

You should be 100% sure that you use the right drivers!!!
Furthermore Toshiba has published the Installation Instructions document on the page and in my knowledge it?s necessary and important to follow this installation guide line. The right installation order is needed!!!

So take care and check it again

I think, you will maybe have to download the utilities for vista from the Toshiba website. I upgraded too, and I downloaded the drivers and programs (utilities) from their Website.

I am a new M700 user and just recently installed a clean copy of Vista Business on my PC.
I was also able to successfully install all the drivers from Toshiba's website but since i have not installed any of the Toshiba utilities so all the buttons on my notebook are not functioning as they should be.

I see that there are a lot of utilities available and might be useful as well but unfortunately Toshiba's support website does not provide any detailed information on what a particular utility might do for the user and it is pretty much left to the user to make out from the name.

I will really appreciate if someone can kindly guide me on what all utilities i need to install to enjoy the full capability and functionality of my machine and at the same time not compromise on performance.

Also, please identify what the following utilities do?

1) Toshiba tablet PC extension
2) Toshiba value added pack
3) Camera utility (Do i need this application to use the web cam with skype??)
4) Optical Drive Auto Lock ( and power on)

Lastly, the touch feature on my tablet is not working and can someone please help me identify if i have this functionality or not as when i try to install the Wacom driver from Toshiba's website it says that "Supported Hardware not found"

Thanks for reading & helping!!!

On the Toshiba European driver page you can find all necessary drivers for the Vista OS.
You can also find the whole description about the single drivers and utilities which are available on the page.

On the page you can find a red arrow and header ?More Info?.
There you can find the details what the tool or driver do.

So check it yourself? if you need more help? just post again ;)

I've upgraded my Portege M400 to Winows 7 (32bit) which went fine. However, cant find how to get and install the utilities I had included with the XP Tablet version.

Can anyone suggest how to get them (I understand they were available for Vista)?

Answer:Portege M400 - How to install Toshiba Utilities for Windows 7?

The Toshiba Utilities that you mean are only designed for Windows XP. On Windows Vista and Windows 7 you need only the Toshiba Value Added Package. This package contains all what you need.

Portege M400 doesn?t support Windows 7 but you can try to install the Vista drivers. The most of them are also work on Windows 7.
As far as I know you also need Toshiba Button Support on this model.

Answer:Where to download Toshiba Utilities and Drivers after a clean install?

If you want to have ?faster? notebook you must not make clean OS installation. Just remove all stuff you don't need and also disable certain applications to start with Windows.
The whole thing is matter of OS configuration.

Please note that Toshiba recovery image is tested and all hardware components will work properly. With your clean OS installation it can happen you will have some ?strange? issues.

I need to update my Common Modules Driver and Toshiba Utilities - can anyone help me?

Answer:Qosmio G20: Need Vista Toshiba Common Modules & Utilities

Hi Paul

Unfortunately, you will have no success to find Toshiba Vista drivers or utilities for Qosmio G20!
It looks like Toshiba has released only single common Vista drivers like Wireless Lan Driver, Bluetooth Stack, etc. These drivers are not especially designed for G20 series but you can use it on notebooks with the same WLan card or BT card.

However, the Toshiba Vista drivers were not released for Qosmio G20 or F20.

Did you check this?

The FranciscoJr is a ?god father of Vista on Qosmio G20? ;)

I have a Portege M100 (prob M100-112) that has been "hacked" about by its previous owner and I am trying to re-install all the tools and drivers.

In particular I want to upgrade the BIOS to v1.50 (from 1.30).

The BIOS upgrade tool (windows) complains that the common modules are not installed, but when I attempt to install the common modules the installer just hangs with no user interface visible and no errors.

I have re-installed all the items before it in the recommended order - but no luck :-(

Any help and constructive help welcom

Answer:Portege M100 - Toshiba Utilities setup hangs

What else you can get on this forum? ;)

Hi Dave

I don?t know which installation order you have used and what items you have installed before but fact is that ?Common modules? must be installed at first before you start to install other Toshiba tools and utilities.

I presume you try to install WXP so here is the full installations order:

Chipset Driver
Display Driver
Sound Driver
Network Driver
Modem Driver
Wireless Network Driver
Atheros Client Utility
Cisco Aironet Client Utility
Infrared Driver
Common Modules
Power Management
Button Controls
User`s Manual
DVD Player
Bluetooth Stack
Display Device Change Utility
DVD-RAM Driver Software
Mobile Extension
Skins for Windows Media Player
SD Memory Card Format
SD Secure Module
Wireless Hotkey Utility
Hotkey for Display Devices
Sun Java Runtime Environment
Management Console

Have you used this order?
Do you try to install THIS common modules?

can anyone tell me if the hardware drivers and Toshiba software (ConfigFree, Bluetooth Stack, Hotkeys, Assist,...) is available for Windows Vista?

Answer:Tecra A4 PTA40: Need drivers and Toshiba Utilities for Vista

Hi Daniel

No, at this time the Vista driver and utilities are not available for the Tecra A4.
Toshiba US and Toshiba Canada provides some Vista drivers for single models and series but it seems the Tecra A4 is not listed.

But the new Bluetooth stack can be used on whole notebooks.
Therefore you could download only the BT stack.

I ordered a A660-17E from Argos and when it arrived it is a A660-1DW

can anyone with any knowledge advise the difference in these machines? has A660-1DW replaced A660-17E or is this a mistake by argos?

is there any functions i wont have if i keep the A660-1DW

i will mainly use the computer for internet surfing, streaming football and burning movies to disk.

Any advice given would be much appreciated.

Answer:Satellite A660-1DW or Satellite A660-17E?

To be honest for this basic stuff both models are more than good enough.
Comparing notebook specifications there is no much difference.

As I can see Satellite A660-1DW has more powerful CPU so if you got it for the same price it is OK.
I don?t know if this is some kind of mistake or not but you got perfect notebook. Keep it.

Don?t forget to create recovery DVDs using preinstalled ?Toshiba recovery media creator?.

I am looking for any compatible Hard Disk Drive for a Toshiba SATELLITE A660-13T as the one inside is dead now.

Such model shipped with the laptop is a TOSHIBA MK6465GSX 640 GB, SATA 2.6 Revision 3Gb/seconds 5400 rpm

Offical Toshiba vendors quoted me 130 euros por the same model.

I cannot get such model through any other shop or internet.

There are lots of different new TOSHIBA HDD in the market with bigger capacity and much cheaper than the MK6465GSK.

Can I install any new toshiba HDD on my SATELLITE A660-13T ?

Is there any toshiba page where I can find out which toshiba HDD are compatible with my SATELLITE?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Answer:Which HDD can I use on my Satellite A660-13T?

What you need is 2,5? SATA HDD and it can be from Toshiba but it can also be from some other manufacturer. So you don't need something special. If possible visit your local dealer and they can help you to choose the best one.

Now when you need new HDD maybe you should think about upgrade with SSD. SSDs are much faster and usage of SSD with your notebook will rapidly increase notebook?s performance.

More about SSDs you can read on

If you have more questions you are welcome.

My question is:
How can i install Win XP on my laptop??
I'm looking for drivers on my Satellite A660-1EN for Win XP, but i find nothing :(

Pls, help.

Answer:Win XP on Satellite A660-1EN

Hello Krot

Toshiba offers drivers for supported operating systems only. We have year 2011 and new notebooks are designed for new standards so it is time to look forward and use newest technologies.
I presume that the percentage of WXP users on newest notebook models is so low that there is no need for WXP support.

If you want to use WXP why you don?t use some old notebook model? I mean to spend a lot of money for newest hardware and then want to go back and use old OS, there is no sense for me.

You can try to find some drivers Googling around but I?m pretty sure you will never be able to have 100% well configured OS. What you can try it to use VMvare and virtual OS.

Does anyone know if Toshiba ill provide windows 10 drivers for this model, as they have for Z930? Or is there a way to use another set of drivers? I wouldn't have thought there was a lot of difference between the two models.
