Preferred Solution: Satellite L500 - How to get FN keys working on Windows 7 64bit?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite L500 - How to get FN keys working on Windows 7 64bit?

It's pretty easy. Go to the [Toshiba driver page|] and download Vap utility and Flashcard support. Then, install Vap and restart your laptop. After that do it for Flashcard support.

I have upgraded my new laptop from Vista to Win7 64 bit, however the function keys do not work and the function keys that display at the top when you press FN does not show anymore. I have installed Utilities and Value Added Package but no success. Any help is apperciated.

Note To Toshiba Team:
Why don't you package all necessary drivers and software in one package after testing them, based on computer model for example in my case Satellite A350-13A, you could make one package for Win7x64 another for Win7x32, etc, instead of leaving us spending days to figure out what to install and where to find it and if it will work or not. Awaiting your feedback.

Answer:Satellite A350-13A Windows 7 64bit Function Keys not working

You need to install the Flash Card support utility additionally to the VAP!!!
The Flash Card support Utility can be found in Satellite L500 driver area for example.
After installation if Flash Card support Utility reboot the unit once again and then check the functionality.

Answer:Re: Satellite L500 - FN keys don't work on Windows 8

Maybe stupid question at the beginning of our discussion but have you checked if your notebook is supported for Win8?
I mean which drivers and Toshiba specific tools and utilities you want to install if your notebook is not supported for Win8?

I have bought a new laptop Toshiba Satellite L500-1EV. Now I am with Windows 7 32 bit OS, and I noticed that some of the shortcuts - espacially the "fn-F8" - for switching on and off the wireless adapter and "fn-F9" for toggling between mouse and touchpad input don't work. After I press FN-F8 the wireless adapter is still working and the indicator still lights. After pressing FN-F9 the system keeps on receiving input from both mouse and touchpad.

Am I missing some driver?
Thank you !

Answer:Satellite L500-1EV- Some FN keys don't work on Windows 7

Have you installed Windows 7 yourself or was it preinstalled on your notebook?

As far as I know for the FN keys you need Toshiba Value Added Package and Flash Cards Support Utility. In your case I would try to reinstall both of them, VAP firstly and then Flash Cards Support Utility.

Check the Toshiba website where you can find both tools! :)

hello guys. I want to make some questions

I have windows vista in my laptop and I want to make a clean installation with windows 7 64 bit. I have seen that drivers are ok in the site. So here are my questions

a) should i delete the hidden recovery partition or not? (eisa config if i remember correct)

b) I have taken 4 dvds with toshiba recovery disc creator. If I erase every partition in the laptop how can I restore my DVDs? With a programme in Windows or just setting bios to boot from dvds and then the procedure is automatic? Is the first dvd bootable?

thanks in advance and sorry for my english

Answer:Satellite L500-128 - Clean installation of Windows 7 64bit

a) Of course you can delete this hidden WinRE partition. If you have installed a new/other OS, this partition is useless.

b) You?re right. To restore factory settings from Toshiba recover disk you have to boot from the disks. The first disk is bootable and there you can start from the installation. This happens automatically, only few clicks are necessary to confirm the installation and create the user accounts, etc. Pretty easy and all drivers and tools are installed too! :)

I have found and installed all drivers I need for this laptop using Windows XP. My problem is that I can only activate Wireless on this laptop by pushin FN+F8 key, I have installed the Realtek Wireless drivers and they are installed fine, but I can't get Wireless to work because of the FN keys. When I push the FN+F8 key, a blue led should turn on next to the volume controller, but it doesn't...

I've searched for the Hotkey Utility in the Toshiba India site, I downloaded and tryed it but I get the error "This software utility does not support this system", the Common Modules gives me the same error too.

I've tryed installing other Hotkey Utility driver for another laptop, and it doesn't give me that error, but it doesn't work either... I actually leaves my laptop freezing a second, every 5 seconds... and the FN keys still don't work.

Anyone know where I can find a working Hotkey Utility for my laptop using XP?

Or maybe is there a way to activate Wireless without the FN keys? I don't need the other keys... I just want a way to activate Wireless.

Thanks for your time

Answer:Satellite L500 - Can't find drivers for FN keys for Windows XP!

That?s very strange buddy because the point is that XP is the past and newer notebooks doesn?t support this OS.

What you can do is to download the utilities for another Satellite L notebook, e. g. Satellite L300. This supports Windows XP and maybe the tools from that notebook are working on yours.
Check this!!

In worst case you have to live with this issue or you upgrade to Windows Vista. That?s all what you can do.

Have you installed the newest tools from the Toshiba page? If you install both VAP must be installed first and then Flash Cards Support Utility.

Furthermore I would try to clean the registry using CCleaner.

I recently purchased a Satellite L500 notebook computer with a Vista operating system. When I use the keybord when I press the @ key it types " and vica versa.

This is a bit annoying. Is there a reason for this or is it a faulty with the computer.

Answer:Satellite L500 - reversalof " and @ keys

Your keyboard layout has been changed from the default English-US, to English-UK.

This is a common issue, because I believe most people change the layout believing it will also change the way the machine interprets US/UK spelling. ie Organize instead of organise.

To change the layout, go through to Control Panel - Regional and Language Settings - Keyboard

Since I bought my laptop (Satellite L500-1XU) I have a problem with my keyboard wich i can't figure out.
It happens that without +Toshiba Value Added Package for Win7-32bit+ ([this version|]) some FN combinations work (such as ESC, F1, F3, F5, F6, F7) but the rest of them don't work.

So I install TVAP and now none of them is working. If i mouse-click on any flash-card it does its job, but the key commands refuse to work.

My guess is that the TVAP version I use is incompatible with my laptop model:
But I can't find the right version. So I'm asking for your help.

If you have any ideas please hit reply.

Thank you in advice!

Answer:Satellite L500-1XU - FN Keys Problems

Your notebook belongs to the Satellite L500 PSLJFE series.
Go to the Toshiba European driver page and download the VAP and Flash Card support utility for Satellite L500 PSLJFE.

This should help!

Otherwise you?ve got some registry problems and in such case you should clean the registry using CCleaner for example?
This free tool cleans the OS? After that you should install VAP and Flash Cards again.

Just got one of the new core I3 powered Satellite with Windows 7 64bit OS. All seems fine and I'm impressed with the machine but the Fn keys do not work.

I went back to the shop and tried the display model which was OK. Before I phone up Toshiba helpdesk (I so don't want to be sent round in circles by a foreign call-centre operator working from a script) is there a simple answer to this?

Answer:Satellite L500-1XC - FN keys don't work

Hi nixi,

I had the same problem on my Satellite L500. I have a little bit searched here and did the following steps

1) Download newest Toshiba Value Added Package and Flash Cards Support Utility.
2) Remove the old versions of both Toshiba tools and restart your notebook
3) Use CCleaner to remove still existing keys in registry and restart again
4) Install VAP firstly and then Flash Cards Support Utility. Make the last restart.

Normally the FN keys should start working again. Can you confirm this?

I recently bought a Toshiba laptop (Satellite L500) which was pre-installed with a 64-bit version of Windows 7 stored on the hard disk drive, but sadly I didn't create the 64-bit recovery medium from it.

So when I installed the 32-bit version of Windows 7 all the data on the hard disk drive including 64-bit Windows 7 and its backup became erased.

I tried to order a Windows 7 64-bit recovery disc for my notebook from the Toshiba Europe Backup Media Online Shop but when I go to the related webpage and enter the serial number of my PC to identify the backup media which I require for my PC , there is just some information about my PC name, model and the price of recovery disc without giving details of the version of the recovery disc.

So I don't know if I order for a recovery disc, which version of Windows 7 will be sold to me ( 32-bit or 64-bit ? ) ?

I would be most grateful if you could share your knowledge with me about this matter.

thanks for your help

Answer:Wireless not working in toshiba satellite l500 in windows 7

For a start, turn off CAPS LOCK - it's considered to be shouting & many will ignore you.Did the laptop come with Windows 7 or have you installed it later? Are you sure there are drivers available for the wireless card - check the manufacturer's website if necessary. Some Toshiba laptops have a separate wireless switch on the front edge - if it's there make sure it is in the 'on' position. The usual key combination, as far as I recall, is Fn and F8 pressed at the same time (not F8 on its own) - there should be an LED that lights up on the front edge of the laptop when the wireless adapter is on."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." My new Satellite L500 - 19X came pre-installed with Win 7 - 64 bit version.
Also included was a "Product Recovery Win 7 32 bit" disc

Within the packaging was a leaflet saying:

"If you plan to use the 64-bit version at a later stage, please create a _recovery medium_ prior to installing 32-bit Windows 7"

It then cautions me to create a "64 bit recovery medium.....ordering a 64-bit recovery medium is not free of charge"

The manual goes on at length about "_System Recovery Options_" As instructed in the manual I have made a "Repair Disc Windows 7 64-bit" Am I correct in saying that I do not or cannot have an actual Win 7 64-bit disc?

The leaflet says "a backup copy (of the Win 7 64-bit) is stored on the hard disk drive as a _recovery image_" So is this the actual Win 7-64-bit complete disc that I am after, and if so how do I get it?

The Toshiba documentation is not clear, and I believe rather contradicts itself?

I am confused! Anyone understand what's going on?

Answer:Creating Win 7 64bit Recovery Disc for Satellite L500-19x?

As I understand you have received the Notebook with preinstalled Win 7 64bit OS.
But you didn?t get the Win 7 64bit recovery disk but you have a Win 7 32bit recovery disk. Is it right?

Well mate? the case is that the usage of the Recovery disk will format the full HDD and will erase everything from HDD. This means that you will lose the preinstalled Win 7 64bit OS.
So if you would not create the Win 7 64bit recovery disk BEFORE using the Win 7 32bit recovery disk then you will not be able to go back to 64bit version.

Therefore create the Win 7 64bit recovery disk at the beginning. Then you are safe and can install Win 32bit and 64bit whenever you want.

Hello everyone...

I have the Satellite L500 with Windows 7 Home Premium [64-bit], and I want to reset it to factory default, like how I first bought it.

But if I do this method will I still get the 64-bit or the 32-bit version?

I have been arsing around with my l500-1dt. I used the shop supplied 32 bit toshiba win 7 recovery disk, but I want to recover back upto 64 bit (originally installed on the latop).

I created the 2 dvds with the toshiba recovery media creator but as my current win 7 32 bit version isn't actually broke, it doesn't seem to want to start up any recovery process when I put the disks in and restart.

I've tried holding 0 to start the HDD recovery too and seem to have the same problem.

Is there anyway to force recovery start up and install 64 bit windows 7?

Answer:Satellite L500-1DT: Force Recovery back to 64bit Win 7 from 32bit

I assume the Win 7 was already preinstalled on your notebook.
So the HDD recovery option should be still available on the HDD? Is it right?
I assume you didn?t change anything on the HDD and in such case you could try recover the notebook using HDD recovery option.

In such case you have to press F8 then you should get advanced boot menu.
Here you have to choose Repair my Computer.
New window will appear and here you need to choose HDD recovery!!!

A few weeks ago I posted a thread about Repair Discs and Recovery Discs. Basically, I have a Satellite L500-19Z laptop which was running a 64bit version of Windows.

Because of a problem I had to re-install Windows. The disc that came with the laptop was Product Recovery Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit. Not realising the implications of re-installing using this.
I've now ended up with a 32bit operating system meaning that I can only use 3gb of my 4gb RAM.

I didn't realise that I'd actually created a Recovery Disc at the time that I bought the laptop.
Could I use that to enable me to revert to a 64bit system?

Would I lose my data (I can back it up) and would I be allowed to recover a 64bit system to a system which is currently a 32bit system?

Answer:Would I lose my data recovering Satellite L500-19Z using 64bit system?

The usage of Recovery disk would set the notebook back to the factory settings which mean that the HDD would be formatted at the beginning of the procedure.

In such case all the data would be erased from the HDD?

First remove both tools and then restart your computer. Now install VAP and at last Flash Cards Support Utility.

1) i am asking for your help about installing my Fn keys drivers for my Satellite A200 14 D PSAECE laptop.
My OS is Windows XP and i have Bitdefender Internet Security 2009 .
From the download page of Toshiba drivers i got all drivers for my laptop (36 of all - or close), but from the many Xp reinstalations i have done on my laptop, only one time all Fn keys worked when pressing Fn+key and the corresponding icons appeared on my display. I have read some forum topics and i understand there is a problem about the order in which i have to install them ( i already installed them all but it is not working ), so i need someone to tell me which are the drivers for Fn keys only and in which order to install. Please do not forget that i can deactivate my Bitdefender but not uninstall .

2) the same problem with the preset buttons above the keys - On-Off, Internet, Media Player, Play-Stop-Rewind, i need the exact driver and the order.

Thank you for your time :)
Sorry if this question is already answer in the forum somewhere, but i could not get this exact answer.

Answer:Satellite A200-14D PSAECE - Fn keys not working & other function keys

I remember that the BIOS should be updated to the Win XP version on Satellite A200 series.
There are two different BIOS versions and depending on the installed (Vista or Win XP) the right version should be used.

But there are many FN buttons which needs additional installation of different tools.
For example the Touch Pad On/Off Utility should be installed to use the FN+F9 buttons.

Furthermore you should install the Controls Driver and Controls 3.22.2701 in order to get the Toshiba Control buttons functionality.

In order to rotate the screen I have to right click on the desktop and choose graphic properties/rotation.Interestingly if I press the tablet buttons while in tablet mode and then rotate the screen up to notepad mode within a few seconds the button will perform its function (rotate screen, activate tablet shortcut menu, etc). Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I've tried running system update (4.0) to no avail. Cheers

I have a Satellite A350 PSAL6A-04W16 which I have upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7. I have installed the Toshiba Value Added Package for Windows 7 and while this fixed the touch keys for Speaker Mute and Media Player control the FN keys still do not work.

I have read in another forum that TFNKY.exe and HKServe.exe must be running however these programs do not seem to exist on my PC.

Is there a fix for this?

Answer:Satellite A350 - FN keys not working after Windows 7 installation

The point is that you have to install Flash Cards Support utility too and Value Added Package is not enough. As you can see in many other threads, FN keys start working after installation of Flash Cards Support Utility.

So have a look on Toshiba website again to download this tool.

Please send some feedback after installation. :)

May I ask you if you have already searched in forum for similar threads? I think this question is asked very often in last few days so normally you should find an answer to your problem.

However, if I read in the forum you should install latest Toshiba Value Added Package. You can download it on the Toshiba page: > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

Can you confirm that it?s working?

Sorry for my bad english, i am forum Portugal and i don't are very good at english.

1 I installed Windows 7 on my pc, installed the drivers 7 and FN was to give. However I had another problem and had to format the pc again, now install everything again and functionality not the FN.

2 Without the drive functionality that is FN + F6/F7 brightness works. But with the drive not installed anything. It seems they are in conflict.

3 The bar at the top of the screen that appeared no longer appears. But if I go to Start -> All Programs -> TOSHIBA -> Utilities -> Settings for TOSHIBA E-cards. With it open, squeeze "Allow the mouse to show the cards" and they appear at the top, as hidden. But just gives me no way, I wish to give to the FN.

Anyone know how this is resolved?? It gave me immense way and even have tried everything, installed everything, there is nothing to block the FN key? A feature that blocks this key?? Please help me.

Please could someone help me out.

I have a Toshiba Satellite C50-A0393 that I got a few months ago with Windows 8.1 already installed (64 bit). Today I got a message saying I needed to look at the PC Health, a Toshiba blue message concerning the access agreement, and I noticed that there were three upgrades that needed to be done, the only one I can remember being the Toshiba Video Player. I think that another one had to do with the charger light?
I don't know.

But once I restarted my laptop after the updates I noticed that the special function keys were not working (i.e. the volume, mute, pause and play, etc.). i then went onto the Toshiba Desktop Assist and into system settings and selected the keyboard tab. I then made sure the setting for special function mode was selected.

Now, when that setting is in place, certain keys work but for F3, F5, F6, etc and when I want to use the special functions only the volume up and down work when pressing 'Fn', but special function mode is still selected? Only those two work, not the mute or flightmode or bluetooth, which was working normally before the upgrades.

I have googled but cannot find anything specific to 8.1, or not relating to upgrading to 8.1. I cannot find the flashcard utility and do not want to try something where I do not know what I am doing. How can I get these special function keys working again normally? Sorry for the long message but I wanted to give as much info as possible.

Answer:Special Functions keys not working on Satellite C50 - Windows 8.1

It sounds strange to me that a Toshiba update (Toshiba Video Player, etc?) would affect the function key functionality.
Nevertheless? the function key (F1-F10) can be used in combination with or without the FN button. This depends on the special function key mode.

In case you want to use the F1-F12 functions without the pressing FN button, the function key mode should be enabled (should be set to special function mode)

Here the full details how it works:

Now it these buttons would not work even if the FN button has been pressed, then there is some problem with the software.

First of all I would recommend you to set the BIOS to default because this function key mode can be changed in BIOS too.
After that, check if the key would work. If not, reinstall the
Toshiba Function Key Utility

And Toshiba System Driver

You can also check if the essential service has not been disabled.
Start the Task Manager and go to start up items. There you should enable all Toshiba apps and services and then restart.

Have I done something to cause this?

Answer:Screen is not working on my Satellite L500

I don?t think so.
If you cannot switch back to notebook?s display using FN+F5 I?m afraid there is some hardware problem.

Either is the problem with display cable or display itself. Fact is that notebook must be disassembled and all this must be checked.
You can contact nearest Toshiba service and ask for help.

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what is wrong there. Start notebook in safe mode and test it again. If the same happen again and again I presume keyboard must be exchanged.

Recently got a Satellite L500-1DT for my Mum who's learning to use a computer for the first time and everything works apart from the built in webcam, of which was a big part of the decision in buying it.

The blue light comes on and it records sound but not any images. It also doesn't take the photo shot either, and in both cases just shows the cloudy sunset image that appears to be a defualt shot on the program. I've tried troubleshooting for her but there's nothing in the help guide that tells you how to fix it if it's not working.
The software was already preloaded when it was bought (we got it online) and I don't want to uninstall it as I don't think we have a disc.

Can anyone help?

Answer:Webcam is not working on Satellite L500-1DT

Hi buddy!

I?m not quite sure but in my opinion you should try to reinstall the webcam driver. Just check the Toshiba page for an update:

But before you install the newest version, remove the old one first and restart the notebook.

Regarding the disk that you mean, as far as I know Toshiba notebook will not delivered with ?recovery disk?. That means you have to create it yourself using Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator. This disk contains an image about ?factory settings?. This is the same version as you have started the notebook the first time.

By the way: Normally after the first start you should get a message like this. Can you confirm this?

+your system is equipped with hard disk recovery system. if you need to repair+
+your computer by restoring it to original factory state, you can do it directly+
+from harddisk (press F8 when you boot your computer, choose "Repair your computer"+
+and follow the menue instructions) or create a bootable Recovery Disc Medium for this purpose.+

+Toshiba recommends you to create Recovery Disc Medium using the "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator" to ensure+

I have a A305-S6857 and tried with XP Pro 64bit. Integrated SATA DOS drivers and installed fine; the only driver I had to pull from Vista 64bit was the RICOH card reader, the rest downloaded from Intel or were automatically detected.

Also have the problem with FN Keys, cannot control brightness. Have downloaded files from a A300 model as suggested by PCtech with no luck.

Before installing those windows files, a could activate/de-activate second monitor or sleep laptop; nothing else works.

Might go back to Vista, my battery can last up to 4 hours without wifi, 3+ hours with wifi, not using USB devices, Economy mode and disabling all lights from BIOS. Same settings with XP give me an average of an hour and a half of battery.

PCtech, did you installed XP 32bit ?

Answer:Satellite A305-S6857 - XP 64bit FN keys don't work

Your FN buttons don?t work because Toshiba does not provide the Common Modules for Windows XP 64bit.
The Common Modules is one of the essential drivers/tools which are needed to get the FN buttons working.

I doubt you will be able to use such buttons using the Win XP 64bit

Good Morning,

I noticed that my Satellite L500-19X's hard disk was on it's way out so I have bought a replacement. I used the tool on the machine to create 2 restore DVD's to re-install the system.

The restore seems to run ok, working through both disks etc. It finishes, asks me to remove the media and the machine reboots.

The Windows 7 startup begins, but get's to "Setup is applying system settings" and I get a message stating "Windows Setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer's hardware."

Does anyone have any ideas? I've run the restore a couple of times with the same result. I'm rather surprised that the restore CD's are essentially useless.

Answer:Toshiba satellite L500 not working, No disply

If you still get lights on the edge of the laptop & you can hear the fan spinning and harddisk clicking a bit but nothing at all is appearing on the display then it's either the screen or the power inverter that have gone. Either way it's not really something you can do yourself, take it to a technician to sort out. If you are not getting any lights, fan or clicking sound then it is a power issue - the LED doesn't necessarily mean that the power supply is ok. Again, not much you can do yourself, take it to an expert."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." Pink Floyd

I tried installing/reinstalling/uninstalling and then installing again, Toshiba Value Added Package and flash cards support utility. No luck...
Flash cards utility is installed: []
What now? :)

Laptop model: L550-15F (PSLN4E)

Also, does anyone know why a search for drivers for my model returns bluetooth stack package but my model doesn't seem to have bluetooth? :)

Answer:Satellite L550 - Flash Cards stopped working after Windows 7 64bit repair

Wait a moment, please! In which order you have installed/reinstalled the Value Added Package and Flash Cards Support Utility? It would be interesting to know what you have done exactly.

I have used the following ?repair? order for this problem:
I uninstalled Flash Cards Support Utility and then Value Added Package. I did make a restart and cleaned the system by using CCleaner. One restart more and I installed Value Added Package firstly and then Flash Cards Support Utility. Now I did make the last restart and the FN keys started to work!

It?s important that you install the new versions for Windows 7!
That means Flash Cards Support Utility version and VAP version 1.2.34_64. I founded both on the Toshiba website :)

I have a Satellite L500 running Win 7 64 bit. I have recently installed the last windows updates and have noticed that I can no longer select multiple items by holding down CTRL and left clicking. This applies to files in explorer as well as e-mails in outlook. When I try it just hangs for a few seconds but fails to select multiple items. Has anyone else come across this or have any suggestions as to a cure?

Answer:Satellite L500 CTRL + left click not working in win 7 after the last update

There's nothing lost in trying this Vista solution since there are no registry hacks etc [You cannot use keyboard shortcuts to select more than one item in Windows Explorer after you install certain applications on a Windows Vista-based computer|]

I replaced the original realtek wireless card with an Intel 6230 but it is not working.
After power on the wireless control led on the front remains blank.

In windows ( 7 professional 32bit) the drivers install fine, but said:
"radio hw switch is off"

fn+f8 not working, in bios wireless com sw is enabled.

The card is fully working in another laptop (samsung r528 (same chipset))

Is there any solutin, or will there be a BIOS update for it?

Answer:Satellite L500 (PSLJTE) - Intel Centrino Advanced n 6230 not working.

Sounds like the notebook is not compatible with the radio switch in the 6230, and the additional Bluetooth feature may also be causing an issue.

I doubt support would be added for Wifi cards not supplied from the factory so you may need to use an earlier Intel card such as the 5100 or one of the other cards used in the PSLJTE range.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L500 PSLS0A-019002 with Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed that I received two months ago as a gift.

Apart from disliking some the quirky and useless (to me) Windows Vista / 7 features, as the desktop is loading I get the error message "Toshiba Service Station has stopped working" which proceeds to find a solution, but apparently never finds one because this condition repeats itself every time I boot.

On another thread in these Toshiba forums, someone suggested downloading the independent utility called Toshiba Service Station and reinstalling it. I do not see such utility listed on the downloads page for my Toshiba model. Since I don't even know what the Toshiba Service Station does (unless it goes by another name - Toshiba Bulletin Board perhaps?), I have no idea what is causing the error or how to correct it.

Does anyone have a more precise solution?

Answer:Toshiba Service Station has stopped working - Satellite L500 PSLS0A

Service Station is not currently active in Australia, so you can simply uninstall it.

i can't install Windows 8.1 (Windows 8 is running successfull). Is this "by design" (maybe missing support for things like PAE, NX or SSE2. see

Thanks for help

Answer:Satellite L500-1C7 and Windows 8.1

If Win 8 runs on your notebook properly, then it should be possible to upgrade the Win 8 to Windows 8.1 too…

In order to get Win 8.1, install all Win 8 updates and then access the Windows Store to get the Win 8.1 update.

It should be possible to install the Win 8.1 update in case Win 8 is already up to date.

I changed my operating system to windows 8 64bit , all hardware defined by windows except chipset & blutooth (I defined them once from Windows 7 another time from latest model like L830). but the function key not working (for wirekess/blutooth on/off ).

Is there any drivers for L500-21T for windows 8 64bit or from specific new compatible models drivers?

Answer:Satellite L500-21T & Windows 8 64-bit

> Is there any drivers for L500-21T for windows 8 64bit...
On you can check if your notebook is supported for Win8 OS.

One more thing: your notebook has Intel HM55 Express Chipset. Interesting is that Tecra A11 with part number PTSE0E has the same chipset and it is supported for Win8 so you can try to use chipset driver offered for this Tecra notebook.

I just bought this laptop, and if I knew that it does not support XP, that it has only drivers for Vista I doubt, better yet I know that I would not take Toshiba.

There's no warning thas says "Vista only" or something similar, at least not in my contry and it was unpacked.

The problem is that I have only XP and I do not like VIsta at all, so is there any drivers for XP?

I couldn't find any drivers for XP, there is no drivers even for Win7, only for Vista.

Answer:Satellite L500-12P - Where can I get Windows XP drivers?

In my opinion Windows XP is pretty old OS and is the past. Vista is the future and in few days it will be Windows 7.

So you should be happy if your notebook runs properly with preinstalled Vista. The notebook is fast enough for this OS and with new SP2 it runs faster as without SP. Furthermore you can switch to classic mode and then it looks like XP.
Have you check this?

If you really want XP you have to collect drivers yourself on external websites, like Intel, Realtek and so far.

I bought a Satellite L500 with Vista as the os. I upgraded to win 7 using the Toshiba upgrade disc I was sent. Since installing Windows 7 my laptop freezes at any time.
Ctrl-alt-del do nothing.

My only option is to turn it off with the power button. I have installed all the available drivers from the Toshiba site but to no avail. Also, since installing Win 7 the FN key does not work, the touch pad won't work and the eco utility won't work. I have checked all the drivers that I can find and reinstalled or tried to update them. I have looked at the settings for the mouse and pointing device and it all says its working.

I think it is because I can't turn it on with the FN key- FN+F9. I can mute the volume now with FN+ESC (couldn?t a few days ago) I can use the FN key to sleep and lock the laptop but the dim/ brightness keys don't work. It seems they work up to F5 only.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Satellite L500 - several issues with Windows 7

Hi joey,

Can you find any information in Windows event viewer about this freeze?

You should check the device manager for unknown devices or yellow exclamation marks. Maybe it?s a driver issue.

Regarding the FN keys you have to install Toshiba Value Added Package and Flash Cards Support Utility. They are required for FN keys and then you are able to enable/disable the touchpad (FN+F9).

Last but not least check the Toshiba page for a Windows 7 version of Eco Utility.

hi people,

I Have Toshiba Satellite L500 Model and run Windows 7, currently. Now, I want to Install Windows XP on it , I checked that all drivers are available on Toshiba page.
So teach me how to install Xp successfully.

Thanks in advance

Answer:Windows XP installation on Satellite L500

if you want to install Xp on your computer, you need to change Sata Controller in Bios ,,Compatible,, otherwise you will meet a blue screen during installation. It's because of AHCI drivers Then after installation, you can download and install Storage Manager and return AHCi mode in Bios. You can also integrate them into Windows disk.

My new laptop is Satellite L500-1KK and I can not find WinXP drivers for it. I hope to find a good help

Answer:Satellite L500-1KK - Need Windows XP drivers

The Satellite L500-1KK belongs to the PSLJTE series and therefore you can find all drivers on the Toshiba page: > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

I have checked the page and it seems that all XP drivers are available.

But why you want to change the OS? Are you not satisfied with the Toshiba preinstalled OS?

Answer:Satellite L500-02F - Drivers for Windows XP?

It seems that SATELLITE L500-02F PSLS0C-02F012 belongs to Toshiba Canadian series.
Indeed, there are only Win 7 drivers.

But you can check the Toshiba European driver page.

There you will find different L500 models and there are some Win XP drivers which could work in connection with you L500 series.

Some single missing drivers you could collect at you own hand?

Apologies if this isn't the right forum. Not sure if this is purely for those laptops upgraded through the official Update programme.

But anyway, I have a Satellite L500-1ZR which isn't covered by the official programme so I went and updated my laptop directly through Microsoft. Everything works perfectly so far. However, Windows has installed its own drivers for my Radeon Mobility HD 4500 series and I would prefer to use the ATI drivers. As is normal, I can't install the drivers directly from the ATI website but when I try to install drivers through the Catalyst Install Manager that is on the Toshiba website, as I've always done in the past, it claims that it can't find any installable content.

Is there any way around this or is it a matter of waiting (and hoping) that Toshiba release Windows 8 drivers?

Answer:Satellite L500 - Windows 8 GPU Drivers

Here is a nice thread about Win 8 supported notebook series:

Check if your series is listed.
If its listed, it will get Win 8 drivers
