I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This should be possible. Did you check the Toshiba Power saver setup settings?

Or more precisely aero transparency. I'm using a gateway netbook with 1.2Ghz atlon and an ATI x1270 gfx card. The drivers are from windows update. I've also tried downloading the ati drivers from their website (vista x64 were the only ones i could find) and no change.

Is there any way I can manually edit the profile settings? Maybe via registry?

I've tried EXPORTING the profile to .pow files but I have no idea how to read or edit them (tried notepad).

Is there no way in W8.1 to turn off notification sounds for specific apps with annoying notification beeps (in my case FB)?

Everywhere I look, including in this forum, shows me how to turn off notification sound for ALL apps, but I just want to turn it off for SOME apps, those that beep annoyingly and too often. It seems to me that the apps rely on W8.1 for notification sound management, but nowhere do I seem able to turn off the sound for specific apps. Is it me or is it W8.1...?

Answer:Turn off notification sound for specific apps...?

Hello OppfinnarJocke,

The notification sound is a global setting that can only be completely turned on or off.

If you like, you could turn off showing toast notifications for individual apps though that would effectively no longer have a notification sound afterwards since there will be notification.

I've been working on computers for many years and have come across something that ive never seen before. I have a hp media center pc m7067c that does not turn on and the power supply makes a faint clicking sound every second. When i unhook the ps from the mb the sound goes away. I know the ps works cause ive used it in another pc. All the drives power up in another pc and I have put in a new mainboard and still have the same issue. Any help would greatly be appreciated!!

Answer:pc won't turn on and power supply makes faint clicking sound

Given that you are SURE the sound is emanating from the power supply find a dark location (at night with no lights on in the room) and observe the power supply for a brief flashing blueish light. If detected it is most likely a short arcing in the PS. Another alternative might be a bearing starting to fail on the PSU fan. truenorth

I cannot switch off the screen saver funtion.  I've selected "none" on the personalization page but the screen saver still activates.  I've changed the time-out to 600 minutes and it still activates within 10-15 min.  I have a program for uploading video that takes time to run and once the screen saver activates the program is stopped.  Since I don't have much use for the screen saver I'd like to turn it off but can't.  thoughts?

WPM15 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! It may not be the screensaver that is the problem. Go into Control Panel --> Power Options and check the various options there.  There is one about when the screen is blanked.  That might be the problem.  Set it to "never" to prevent it from blanking.Good Luck

Hi
Is there a way to have an icon on the desk top that will start the screen saver.
Sometimes I would like to turn on the screen saver when i leave the computer and not have it wait the 5 minutes I have set.
I don't want to have to change the time delay each time.

Answer:Solved: screen saver turn on

It's better to blank the screen or put the PC to sleep, but the answer to your question is 'yes.'

Put a shortcut to the screen saver on your desktop. Easiest way is to just right click and hold on the file and drag it to the desktop. When you release the pop-up menu includes 'Create shortcuts here.'

For example, if you want the "Mystify" screen saver the file is C:\Windows\System32\Mystify.scr.

Hi -

Help. Ever since I had a crash a few months ago my monitor wouldn't shut off. I set it over and over to do so with the power settings, but no good. I didn't know about you guys and I just shut the whole computer off every night. Here's a weird thing. I could swear that I used to have the options of hibernate and stand by with this machine . It's a Sony Vaio with all the hardware on it. It's just mine - no network. I don't think I'm confused back to more than 5 years ago. I just let it all go. I think I read that the best thing was to shut it all off and that's what I've been doing for a long time, even before the crash. I went to Microsoft and looked where I was told and no hibernate or standby. I put it in search and got a whole lot of files that ended in .inf

Well, since yesterday my screen saver won't start up at the set 20 minute time. At least I didn't have to turn off the monitor all the time because the screen saver would go on during the day.

Today I posted some other problems that are popping up lately in the XP forum. I hope this isn't the end. The screensaver is another new problem. Any help is always appreciated. OH, this is good, it won't let me post as it says I just posted 10 secs ago. I posted something this morning. GREAT. It's the end.

Hi guys. I have been trying to get my monitors to shut off so I don't get a burn in on my screens. I can't seem to figure out what is causing them to stay on. I tried enabling a screen saver which won't turn on and I also tried making a keyboard shortcut to turn off the monitor with a cmd command. Whenever I use the shortcut the monitors go down for a second and then pop right back on. I read somewhere it could be my mouse or keyboard causing it to stay awake, but I don;t think this is the problem seeing as it was fine on windows 7. Can anybody help me out?
Thanks!

Just recently, within the last couple days, my screen saver has decided not to work. It has always worked without any problem before, and im not sure why it decided to stop.

I've checked everything that i know with my knowledge, but it seems fine.

A couple possibilities are that when i did a google search on this problem, i found a post saying something about editing the screen saver file in C:\WINDOWS, but i notice that i dont have that file.

I dont know if the file was always never there, or maybe it was deleted somehow.

Another possibility is that there is a program running in the background, but i dont think that is the case because its the same programs running when it worked before.

Thanks in Advance

Answer:Screen Saver wont turn on anymore

Well it might be a dumb suggestion, but if you don't have the "screensaver file" (whatever THAT is) where it's supposed to be, maybe that's why it's not working.

So then MAKE one, maybe.

Post a link to the site that talks about the screensaver file and maybe we can make you one to fix it. Or something.

Have you gone to the XP setting from Desktop>Properties ? It has a timer on it so it starts after a certain amount of inactivity. Did this change ?

Can you do the "Preview" ?

I am running XP Home SP2 on my Notebook. When I turn it on, I am sick of the task bar icons (bottom right hand corner) showing notifications such as unconnected LAN connections, availability of Wireless connections etc. Is there any way to turn off these notifications so that I don't see them ? I generally know the status of these services.

Answer:Turn Off Task Bar Notification

When I'm not using ethernet connections I disable the connection (Network Connections - right click on the connection- 'disable') to avoid the "unplugged" nag.

I'm not on a wireless PC now, but somewhere (I think if you double click on the connection in Network Connections) there are the options to not show disconnects and not show connects--those two will eliminate the notifications you mentioned.

I have my power settings set so the screen saver comes on after 10 minutes, and the display turns off after 15 minutes. Everything starts off hunky dory. Though whenever I add a monitor or change resolutions there's a 50/50 chance I'll get a "windows explorer has stopped responding, windows explorer is restarting" error. Once that restarts my screensaver/power options won't start again until I reboot the computer.

Previewing the screen saver works, but it won't start up by itself.

Changing or resetting the power plans has no effect.

Answer:Screen saver doesn't turn on after explorer crashes

The screensaver and some of the power functions are handled by the video drivers. Update those if possible.

If those video drivers are already up to date, then let's start looking for a reason for explorer restarting. Use Process Explorer to see you we can find an app that is exiting and taking explorer down with it. You can change one setting to make it easier to see such an app:
File > Options > Difference Highlight Duration
...set that to 9 seconds.

If Process Explorer does not help, then take as many things out of the equation as you can via this process: Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup

If a clean boot does not stop explorer from restarting when you change screen resolutions then spend some time with these steps: Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7

All of my "Idle" settings take effect despite not being idle. I have set my power managment settings to turn off my screen after being idle for 20 minutes. Rather than turning the screen off after being idle for 20 minutes, the screen turns off every 20 minutes regardless of whether or not I've been idle. The screen immediately comes back on as it typically turns off in the middle of my typing an email or a forum post. I have tried this on various time settings, as low as a minute and as high as 20 minutes. It seems that my system activity is not recognized (i.e. my typing and mouse usage) unless the system is specifically looking for activity, such as when the power management system has taken affect and the screen saver has come on, or the display shuts down, etc. This isn't a huge deal except that, when my settings included going to my lock screen I had to put my credentials in every time that the system shut off the display. I've read the solutions that suggest setting all of my power managmeent options to "never". This is simply not an acceptable solution. If I am using my computer in a public place and I get up to get a cup of coffee, I want my computer to lock itself after 5 minutes of inactivity. Additionally, if I'm in the middle of taking notes at a lecture, I want my display to shut down and conserve power after I have been idle for a time. Hi, My primary use for my PC is gaming, but this Caps Lock icon is killing it.  The PC is a H430-31. Quite a few of the games I play exit out of full screen because of it, sometimes this can cause the game to crash. I've searched everywhere to try and get rid of it, a common solution I see is to disable some kind of Bluetooth driver, but I don't have it, theres also apparently a OSD process that can be disabled, cant find that either, the only other solutions I could find were for Dell and HP computers. Can anyone offer assistance in removing this? Hello,

I would say that for the past three months at every other Facebook log in, I am being pestered with the message below. "Turn on Facebook notifications so that they will appear in the bottom of your computer screen." I keep saying, "Not Now" "Not Now." Is there ANY way that I can stop this notice permanently?

I don't mind the other notices, just this one. I am on Windows 10, Using Firefox 57. I don't use Cortona so I don't have that tied into Facebook in anyway. (The image is below, and I am SICK OF IT!)

Some setting must have changed. Or maybe it was the 8 to 8.1 update.

I use to get a notification at the upper right when I turned on an external HD, or inserted an SD card. I could click on it, and it gave me the opportunity to open it in explorer.
Now I don't get the notification.
The device works, but I have to go to My Computer if I want to see it in explorer.

Is there a setting for this somewhere?

Answer:No notification when I insert SD card, or turn on HD

I had this problem earlier today.

Go to start
in charms bar, click search , type in Pc settings
to the left click on pc and devices
then autoplay
from there you can change how you want it.

Answer:how to turn off or change screen saver / hibernation mode times

Although I'm not familar with your particular machine, it would seem that you have done what I would do in your situation. Only other suggestions that I can provide would be to do away with your screensaver period, and check to see that there isn't a BIOS setting kicking in power management.

I sometimes have a random notification about battery usage by apps, and it asks me if I want to adjust any battery settings.
The problem is this is a desktop PC.
There is no battery (just a power supply)
So not sure why it keeps asking me this.
Is there a way to disable this bogus notification?
It also says battery is fully charged...huh ?

Thank you.

Hit Action Cent\All settings\System\Notifications & actions, then turn off 'Battery saver' notifications

I was wondering if it was possible to set something so that no matter who logs into the computer the screen saver will never come on and the monitor will never turn off and how to do it. We are on a domain here and use Terminal Services, so we don't want this to disconnect our sessions. Thanks.

Answer:Disable Screen Saver and Turn Off Monitor after certain time limit for all users

The only way to do it is to login as each user and set it up. I am pretty sure there is not a way to make it unversal.

I recently bought a Lenovo Y50-70 and I use Caps lock for gaming but the black and yellow icon notification for caps lock is very annoying. I have Windows 8.1 and I'm looking to looking to turn this option off. I have researched ways to end this but have tried going into regedit, Display, Ease of Access and msconfig to no avail. There is no Widcomm file in my registry, Display's advanced settings do not have an option and neither does Ease of Access. I know that I can turn off all on screen notifications and therefore solve this problem but I don't want to do that. If anyone has an answer, much will be appreciated.

Go to Start > Settings > System > Notifications & actions then under "Get notifications from these senders" you should see the apps causing the notification popups.

PowerEdge T20 won't power up, power button & fans repeatedly turn on/off forever
1 year old. Press the power button, power button lights up amber, then white, CPU fan spins up briefly, then a beep and the power button turns off and the fan shuts down. Three seconds later the cycle repeats forever until I depress the power button for 5 seconds.
Is this a bad power supply? A bad motherboard?

I recently upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 10. When I power down the system from the menu, my computer does not completely turn off. The procedure I use is described below:

Click Windows_Start_button > Power > Shutdown

The system closes applications and appears to initiate a shutdown procedure. Everything appears to be shut off, but my mouse is still lit up. I do notice that the fan stops and everything else appears to be completely shut down. When I was running Windows 7 before my upgrade, my system completely powered down.

I have a dual boot system with Linux, and when I power down from Linux, the shutdown is complete, so I don't think I accidentally did anything to the hardware or BIOS.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm pretty sure there is some tweak in Windows 10 that would fix this, but I haven't found it yet. Thanks for any suggestions you might be able to offer.

Answer:Power down button does not completely turn computer power off

I found the solution on another thread. If you have this problem try the following:
1. Log in as an administrator.
2. Right click the Menu button.
3. Left click -> Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power button does > Change settings that are currently unavailable
4. Uncheck the box next to Turn on fast startup (recommended)
5. Make sure Hibernate is unchecked.
6. Left click Save changes.
The next time you shut down the computer, it will be completely powered off. At least this worked on my machine.

Last night my computer blue screened about 3 times then it just stopped turning on altogether. Wheni plug the power supply into the motherboard the neon fan turns on for a milisecond but that seems to be the only way that i can tell that there's power going to the motherboard.

I've tried 4 different power supplies, different processor, different BIOS batteries, different RAM, etc, but no matter how many times i try to turn it on it just wont turn on.

I do recall doing something innthe BIOS last night which seemed to start this dilemer. I went into power management and did something to the power switch option, then set everything back to default settings.

This is when things started to happen then my pc just wouldn't turn on at all.

It's a socket939 MSI CoreCell.

Could something i did in the BIOS really be causing this problem and is there a way to fix it?

Like i said there does seem to be power going to the motherboard but it simply wont turn on (i even tried different power switches just in [email protected]

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just don't want to buy another 939 motherboard as most shops don't cell them any more and it means i'd have to buy a new processor too.

Answer:Computer wont turn on with power switch but there is power going through it?

If it is a BIOS setting, removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes should clear it. Since you've already changed the battery more than once, it would seem that is not the problem. Considering what you already tried, it might be the motherboard itself or possibly the graphics card but my money is on the motherboard. Just to be sure do you have another graphics card to test with?

So I have an ASUS P4C800-E motherboard in a system that a built a few years back. It worked fine but the system has been sitting in my basement for a year or two unused.

I decided to take the components and drop them in a new case.

I have hooked everything back up properly (i think) but when I hit the power button, the cpu fan, power supply fan and case fans turn on for a brief second and then shut off. (the green standby light on the motherboard is on)

What do I do?

I think you can tell from my question I am exteremly amatuer at this. Simple explanations please...

Answer:Turn power on... fans start up then power shuts off in 1 second

With it shutting down after 1sec, I would check that the hsf is plugged in and working. If there is no fan input ie fan speed, most boards shutdown. In addition that the hsf is installed correctly. If it is loose, etc you will have problems. Most of the time when the hsf is loose, it shuts down in about 5~10sec not 1sec. I tend to think it is more of a shorting problem of the board to the case.

If that is not the case, I would attempt to pw ON the system outside of the case. There are complete instructions in a guide at the top of the forum. It is called troubleshooting guide for problem builds.

So I had a problem with my T500's backlight initially and long story short, disassembling the computer has now caused the problem in the title. Whenever I plug in the battery/charger and push the power button, the fan will spin and the hdd will whirr a bit, but then after about 3 seconds, the fan will stop and the hdd will click off and cease whirring. The computer will no longer respond to the power button regardless of how many times nor how long the power button is held. I'm looking directly at the wires that carry power. Everything seems to be plugged in. I did the lenovo power trick (IE the 10 one second presses followed by the 30 second long press) and the computer does the 1-3-3-1 beep when I take out the RAM. The monitor is not plugged into it in any way, shape, or form. I do not know if this affects it. However, I have tried attaching the monitor and it still does this. Is there a piece that may have been knocked loose or something? I'm willing to try anything right now because at this point it's a literal brick now.

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad T500 will turn on for roughly 3 seconds, then turn off and stay off.

Hi npesina, welcome to the forums,

there could be different reasons for the system behaving the way you describe, my suggestions;

remove all hard, SSD and optical drives to see if you experience the same,
remove all RAM, without replacing the drives, and test to see if you receive a system beep code,
remove all components which had previously been removed to test again.

The ultimate test would be to remove everything attached to the mainboard including the CMOS (BIOS) battery excluding the power socket, CPU and the fan. When you attach the power cable the system should come to life, the fan should run and beep codes sound.  After that its really just a case of putting the system back together one component at a time testing inbetween each component replacement, leave the main battery and CMOS battery until last to save having to always connect / disconnect the keyboard in order to turn the system on.

If at any point you experience the same issue as now it may well be that the component you replaced at that point or it's attachment socket on the mainboard  is the culprit.

I have a bit of a strange issue with my computer. Forgive me if I'm a little too descriptive, but I'm not sure which details are relevant and which are not for such a problem. First, the specs:

Model: eMachines T2984
Operating System: Windows XP Service Pack 2
Processor: Intel Celeron D Processor 340, 2.93 GHZ, 256K L2 Cache, 533 MHZ FSB
Power Supply Unit: Bestec Model: ATX-250-12E REV: P7
Motherboard: I can't tell, but it appears to be an Intel motherboard by the number of Intel labels on it
RAM: 512 MB DDR SD originally, added 1 GB a couple of months ago
Let me know if you need anything else...

Yesterday, I got home from shopping around 1PM, and I tried to start the computer. I pushed the power button, and nothing happened. I checked all of the cords, and they were all plugged in. Not knowing what else to do, I opened up the case to see if there was something obviously wrong. The only thing that I noticed (other than a bunch of dust) was that the power supply unit was still hot. I shut the computer down about 5 hours earlier after about 20 minutes of use, so it seemed strange that the power supply was still hot. I unplugged the computer just in case there was some sort of fire hazard.

At this point, I called a friend who suggested that the problem might be with the motherboard or the power supply unit.

A few hours later, I plugged it back in to try to get it to work. As soon as I plugged it in, the entire unit suddenly started "running" by itsel... Read more

Answer:Computer Doesn't Turn on, Fans and Some Lights Turn on Automatically

I would suspect that the Power Supply Unit (PSU) is going south. If you have a spare one laying around, install it and see if the problem goes away.
You can buy a new, better PSU from Newegg for about $40.00. I have used a Thermaltake 430 watt in one of my machines for some time now and it works well.
You will have to check the size of your PSU to be sure a new one will fit into the eMachine.
Here's the page with that PSU on it. It's the last one on the list.

Ad-Hoc requires that you restart the session each time.

Connectify pro has an auto start option that does this but it's a paid version, connectify lite is free but I'm not sure if has auto start.

I did an upgrade from Win 7 , and Screen Saver / Turn off display after 5 mins was working under Win 7 64 bit
As my title suggest Screen Saver / Lock screen Slideshow / Turn off display after 5 mins are not working under Win 10
The Lock screen Slideshow is there when Win 10 starts but only shows ONE image, never moves to another.
THINGS I've done so far to get any of these working ...Screen Saver / Lock screen Slideshow / Turn off display after 5 mins
I’ve turned off all the Wake on lan functions
Tried different folder/ images for the lockscreen Slideshow ,window spotlight and picture
Tried to set new power options , was able to get SLEEP to show up in "Start" as it was not there before, but once click , the display DID turn off, but wouldn’t turn back on with mouse movement keyboard presses, had to do a hard reboot. Win 10 started without issue and the SLEEP mode was no longer aviable via the power "start" menu.
Anyone have a clue how to get all of these working. Really would like my display to turn off after 5 mins , and the Screen saver to work , the Lockscreen I'm not fussed about

I have a Satellite M30 Series Toshiba and have lost my audio. I don't know if I've checked something shutting it off or what. Can anybody give me any ideas as to how to check it? The other stupid one -- how do I know which Power Saver to use?

Right now my setting is on Power Saver 2, and I'm having overheating problems, to which I have found an answer for that, but one suggestion was to check the power saver, how do I know which one to use?

Any help will be appreciated.

Answer:How can I check sound and power saver version on Satellite M30?

Hi

This is very simple. You should visit the Toshiba driver page and there you will find the right drivers and utilities also the Power Saver.
After installing of power saver you should use set the settings. The cooling method you can set to ?maximum performance? if you want to cool the CPU most powerful.

Now about your sound problem:
Well, firstly go to the device manager and check the sound card state.
If there is everything ok and there are no yellow exclamation marks so all drivers are installed and works properly.
In this case I would recommend entering the control panel and select the Sound & Audio devices. There you can check if the mute was not enabled and if other controllers are set to the higher value.

This is driving me crazy. My HP has Windows 7 and everytime it connects to the internet (wireless connection) Windows Live Messenger opens down in the left hand corner taskbar near the start menu. I close it, and fifteen minutes later it will open again.
I opened the options and unchecked the boxes pretaining to 'Run Windows Live Messenger when windows starts' but it still repeatedly opens. I use hotmail, but i really have no use for Messenger. The program is not listed under add/remove programs. Someone please help me turn this thing off.

Hello Folks,

I'm not sure if my issue is with hardware (possibly MB?) or graphics card, so please forgive me if I've posted in the wrong section. The first problem I was having was random blue screens of death that displayed graphic card driver issues. I was able to remedy that by updating my graphic drivers and have not had an issue since.

However, ever since then I have been running into another hardware or graphics-related issue that is random and completely stumping me. What is happening is, I will be on my computer, leave and turn my monitor off, and (randomly) when I come back to use my computer again, when I turn on the monitor there is no signal and a black screen (e.g. when I turn my monitor on my desktop will pop up and the light on my monitor will turn blue, when it doesn't turn on there will be a black screen and the light on the monitor stays yellow as if it is idle). I have tried swapping out the monitor to see if that was the issue and the same problem persists, so it does not appear to be my monitor or VGA cables.

The only way I can temporarily fix this issue is to reboot/restart my computer and viola! The monitor works again and I can see everything. This issue is very random. Sometimes I can go weeks without an incident, other times this is happening a couple times a week. I honestly don't know if it's my motherboard or video card or what. My PC isn't overheating, I'm not overclocking, and all of my drivers are updated.

I'm not sure what... Read more

I just put together my first computer 6 months ago. It abruply shutdow in the middle of writing a paper for school. I couldn't turn it back on right away. after trying a few times, it turned on. All the fans are working even the fan on the power supply, the motherboards lights are on. My graphic card in on the motherboard. I think it might be my power supply because when I first put it together I didn't plug in the smaller power connection to the motherboard and the same thing is happening, black screen. It's like my computer isn't giving my monitor any feed. I will have more info when I get home. I can't get in to bios or safe mode.

I had it for nearly 2 years,Lenovo Y50-70 Touch -2 days ago while playing games on it, I smell a chemical smell coming from it so I immediately shut it down just in case. The next time I turn it on, it was fine the backlit keyboard glow red as usual but no display, and now it shut down after 4 seconds (with the fan running) whenever I turn it on except, sometimes It stay on (but still no display and no fan running).I got no experience into opening pc and such, I I tried opening it up and remove the dust that built us by quite a bit and tried to locate where the chemical smell was from, I though it was probably from the Fan or Coolers as it seems more strong there but not sure. After trying to turn the laptop on a few time the strong smell kind of dissipate a lot, and smell weaker.I been having a hard time trying to pinpoint just which part of the laptop is needed to replace. So if anyone could help me in the right direction it would be great. I just hope it wont have to buy a whole new motherboard x.xAlso idk if thats helpful information, but the first year playing games was fine, but the 2nd year and the laptop kind of overheated so I tried to cut down a bit and the fans were making more noises than ever. I've had this computer for 4+ months now, i built it myself. it recently started doing this but i'd just turn off the PSU (Power Supply Unit) and turn it back on and it woould fix it. now it doesnt fix it anymore. i've re-slotted the RAM (Random Access Memory) and pushed it in firmly, but that hasn't done anything. i've tried different power outlets and pushed everything into the MOBO (Motherboard), i havent messed around with CPU (Processor) because that's just a pain in the a**... i was wondering if there was anything else i could do before having to take it into a local repair shop, lol.

as for my computer specs

CPU (Processor): Fx-6300 AMD
GPU: R9-270x AMD
RAM (Random Access Memory): 8GB Ballistix sport
MOBO (Motherboard): ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0
PSU (Power Supply Unit): Corsair X500 w 80+
Case: Rosewill GALAXY

thanks

Answer:Fans turn on, lights blink and then turn off/on repeatedly.

First, I would unplug everything that isn't necessary. Everything external except for the keyboard and monitor. Internally, just leave the CPU, RAM and video card installed. See if it turns on. If not, you might try and test the power button. Disconnect the power button from the mobo. If the pin headers allow for it, use the reset button as the power button. If not, you can use a flat head screwdriver to power on the computer (cross the two pins for the power button with the blade of the screwdriver). If you do this, just be very careful. Touch only the power button pins and nothing else! You could easily damage components by touching the screwdriver to the wrong thing.

Some motherboards have a power button right on the board that you can press to power on the computer. I looked at a pic of your board and didn't notice one.

If that doesn't do it, plug the power button back in. You might try and play around with the RAM. I don't know if you have 2 or 4 sticks of RAM, but try and boot the computer with only one stick of RAM at a time. If there's a bad stick, you'll find it through this process of elimination.

If none of the above works, then it might be a bad PSU.

You can try a new  RAM stick. What you describe can be: Anything overloads the PSU, or a failing PSU Bad memory in the low region. BIOS  can't run without it. Bad CPU, or heat sink not in placeDisconnect the HDD and the DVD drive. (Power off, of course.)Power on. Does it  show the  BIOS?

Running Windows Vista Ultimate.

Display turns off after about fifteen minutes regardless of whether I am actively using the computer or not. The only way to turn the display back on is to close and then open the lid. This disconnets me from AOL, so I have to sign back on again, and if I was emailing, I might lose my current email.

Under Power Options, I have 'Turn off the display' set to Never for both On Battery and Plugged in. Under 'Put the computer to sleep' I have both On battery and Plugged in set to never. Nonetheless, the display still shuts off while I am working.

What do I need to do to prevent the display from turning off at odd intervals?

Answer:Vista Ultimate x64: turn off display, will not turn back on

sounds like your display drivers are crashing.

Do not rely on windows update drivers - go to graphics chipset manufacturer website and get latest drivers

Any recommendations? Here Drive+ had turn-by-turn GPS navigation for FREE. But it doesn't work on Windows 10 anymore. Are there any other free alternatives? Ones that don't use an internet connection, preferably.

Answer:Free turn-by-turn navigation now that HERE Drive+ is NOT available for Windows 10?

Hey guys, little help here please.
Sometimes when I try to turn on IS it tries to turn On but everything greys out and nothing happens. Last time I tried it was about 4 hrs ago and since then its been hung up there. I can't open IS from settings now, Loading... shows up and it crashes after ~20sec. I can't turn off wifi because it becomes 'frozen' and when I press Back/Start button nothing happens but if I long press back button it show my active window is Start screen even though I am still in Wifi settings. After I release button wifi closes and end up in start screen.
I know if I soft reset everything comes back to normal. 99% I can even turn on IS. But why does this happen and how do you solve this problem (I know in the past some ppl used to have it)

Answer:Internet sharing doesn't turn on + cant turn off wifi

After a bit of searching this was the only answer I could find.
Remove/uninstall your nokia acount, install access point....you will get your internet sharing.
Not sure if that will help you or not but it's worth a shot.

Hi everyone,

I recently got the fantastic A500-1GL which has been great ....all apart from this really irritating sound that happens when the battery gets below 10%.
I have already turned off the warning sounds in:

Hardware and Sound - Change System Sounds - Sounds - Critical battery alarm and Low Battery alarm.

Both of these sounds are different from the one that is drivin me crazy. Its a very basic system beep and it plays every 10 seconds or so. I NEED to know how to turn this off as it drives me crazy!!! I can turn the sound down but that has ovious disavatages!

Can some one help me please?

Thanks,
Mike

Answer:Satellite A500 - Low battery sound- How can I turn this annoying sound off?

Please enter advanced power settings and check battery options there.
Change settings for low and critical battery level (set lower level) and check also option low battery level notification. There you can disable it.

I first logged out of my computer and came back and I noticed an orange light on the power button. I shut it of and turn it back on about two times with the same results of an orange light. I then shut of the the extension that houses 10 plugs. When I turned on the extension I turned on the computer the power button didn't give off a blue light or orange light. The VGA cable, mouse, keyboard, Ethernet cable are all plugged in. I later removed all the connects to the computer gave it a minute and plugged it all back in. There is a solid green light on the back under the power cable. The fans turn on there is noise coming from inside the computer a soft humming and light fan from the back of the computer. But the power button will not turn on. The monitor light is orange and says "No Input signal Input 2,Go to Power Save." When I switch to input 1 it reads "Cable Disconnected Go to Power Save." What internal issue could this be?

Hello,
I previously owned the Satalite P30-110 and found the sound quality very good - Consequently I chose to upgrade to the P100-188 as a logical step yet at a higher price.

I have found that the Quality of sound on the P100-188 is far far inferior and even sounds quieter and more tinny, almost like a cheap set of passive PC speakers but louder.

Is it likely that my new laptop is faulty or is this a normal issue on the new model?
If it's a normal issue, I regret making the purchase as sound is important to me.
Also the Power Saver utility which I loved in the P30, is ommited from the P100. Can you please tell me if Toshiba intend releasing a software update to provide this as I like to leave the laptop running in different modes depending on how I wish to use it e.g. (Downloads e.t.c).

Also how do I adjust the screen brightness? This was a feature in the TPS Toshiba Power Saver.

Answer:Satalite P100-188: Low sound volume quality and No power saver.

Hi

As far as I know the Toshiba Power saver is installed on many Toshiba notebook but not on all!
It seems that the Satellite P100-188 was delivered without the Toshiba power saver.
In this case Windows power management controls the power options.
You can set and save different power schemes also in the ?Windows power options?.

About the sound: it?s not easy to say if it?s a normal issue.
Firstly I would recommend checking the ?sound and audio devices? and make sure that the volume controls are set to the higher level.

I have a Lenovo G580 laptop with Windows 10. Today I took the back off and removed the harddrive so that I could clean it. I put it all back together and pluged it in. The light came on indicating that the batery was recieving power but when I pushed the power button, it would not turn on. I tried removing the battery and holding the power button for 30 seconds then pluging it in but that didn't work. Any ideas?

Question: Turn off usb power

Hi *,

I am looking for a way to turn off/on the 5V power supply for an USB device. The purpose is to reset a uC (not my uC) which is powered via USB.

Is there an API tho achieve this? I found the option "usb selective suspend " for power saving and I thought there is a way to do this.

Kind regards
Franz

System is a PowerSpec 8821 (can view at powerspec.com/systems/archives/system_archive.phtml?selection=8821).
Orig 250W PS was turning off after I added a GeForce 7600 video card (after 6 months of running it fine, LOL). Now, I know the card needed a minimum 300W PS, but I ran it anyway. Time to upgrade, so, I replaced the factory 250W power supply with Cooler Master 500W power supply. Now when I tell windows to shut down, it goes all the way down... Windows completes its shutdown... the power clicks off... and then click!, it powers back up and restarts. No settings in CMOS, the registry, or windows were ever touched, just removed one PS and installed the other. I looked for APM options in CMOS, saw none other than the 4 sec delay on the power button. This is not an OS issue, but something else. ANY IDEAS???

Answer:Power won't turn off

Oh Goody, Coolermaster...!

Unless youv've forgotten to connect something or your power management settings have changed,

>Control Panel< >Performance & Maintainence< >Power Options<

you must at least consider that the PSU is defective. I would get another (beg or borrow), swap it out, and see what happens. Do it soon, so that you can RMA it if necessary.

In my own limited experience (1 issue) Coolermaster support is worthless.

Hi,

This is a non-urgent question. It's just a power led not lighting up.
It's a friend's PC. He told me it used to power up when the PC was new, but after he took it to a service tech it didn't turn on when it came back, neither did the HD led.

Well the HD led did turn on, it was just that it was not placed where it should be (it was inside the case).

So, getting to the point, I installed a new mobo. An Asrock N68-VS3 FX.
I installed the power led pins to where the manual says. There are two cables with one pin each coming from the case, one is power led (+) and the other one power led (-). I followed the manual's instructions and it doesn't light up. I changed them just in case, didn't work. I also tried connecting them in a different way (in the correct pin place).

So could this just mean the light led is dead? It doesn't seem disconnected to me (http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/9316/sam0009y.jpg)
Thanks for your help.

Hi RonAshman,

I believe it might the be the LED at fault only. If the LED in the next to the power button you should try replacing the power button assembly itself to get this issue fixed.

Hope it helps.

any help would be appreciated and apologies for not being able to provide a PC spec other than I have a Dell Dimension 8100.
my pc is connected to the mains via surge protector which i thought was the point of it but since a power cut last night my PC gets no further than the Dell logo before the cursor just sits and flashes in the top left corner of my monitor.
any ideas what might be the problem so i can maybe try a replacement part rather than a brand new PC?
Thanks

Answer:my PC won't turn on after a power cut

A serge protector only protects from power spikes. For power cuts you need a ups or uninterruptible power supply.

Use TechSpot's search facilities and you will find quite a few posts on the same subject as your problem that may well help you.
