I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite L50-A-161 - Recovery Media fails in creat recovery disk

Hmmmm.... there must be some problem with recovery image.
When you open recover disc creator and if there is option for USB media creation please test it.

Maybe you will be able to create recovery USB stick.

I have a Satellite T230D running Windows 7 Home Premium. When attempting to create recovery media using a USB drive, the process starts by advising that the USB drive will be formatted.
At this point it fails with the error code 040EAE-57-00000000. The USB drive is left in an unusable state and cannot be reformatted by Windows.

The HP USB Format utility does manage to reformat the USB drive.
Before starting to create the recovery media application I disabled virus control, the firewall and Internet access to ensure that nothing got in the way. I have tried this twice with the same result both times.

Can you please tell us which USB device do you use?
Have you tested it with different USB flash memory sticks?

I have a 3 year old C650 and the HDD failed. I put in a replacement disk and trie to recover from the media recovery disks I'd created and although it claimed to have re-partitioned the disk and reinstalled windows, windows startup fails when trying to configure devices 'Could not configure windows to run on this hardware'.

After this error the startup sequence goes into an endless loop requesting to start the installation procedure again.

Thinking that my disks may have been corrupt, I ordered a set of recovery disks from Toshiba. Again, these go through the recovery process and again, Windows startup fails in exactly the same place.

Slightly annoying to have spent ?30 for nothing.

I do have a Windows System Image on my external HDD, but I can't get the machine to a point where it will actually boot so I can recover from that.

Any suggestions on how to proceed welcome!

Answer:Satellite C650, media recovery fails after HDD replacement

That?s really strange. I?ve replaced HDD with SSD on my Satellite notebook and installed original recovery image without any problems.

Try to format HDD before you use original recovery disc.

This will not work. You must use recovery disc.

Hi, Hope someone can help.

Laptop stopped working - keeps trying to fix problem via windows on start-up but this just hangs for hours so I ordered a recovery disc to start a fresh as I believe the original problems were caused by a virus. I have no important data to keep so am OK with clearing everything and restarting. Today. I have just received my Product Recovery disc that I ordered from Toshiba. I follow the instructions; load disc, power on holding C. Then it just continues as if the Recovery CD wasnt in the drive. The CD drive doesnt spin. Its as if the laptop doesnt recognize the disc.

Any ideas?

Answer:Satellite Pro A300 - Recovery disk fails at start

Well, either i?s something wrong with recovery disk itself or the drive doesn?t detect the disk properly?

What happens if you access the BIOS boot menu (F12 key) and select CD/DVD drive as boot device?
If it doesn?t work try another bootable disk to make sure the drive is working properly.

Please can anyone help. I tried using my recovery disks to restore my notebook when it kept failing to start properly. The disks did not work so I purchased a set of disc from Toshiba on this website. I still have the same problem.

Is it the hard drive failing or something else?

If I purchase a new hard drive will the recovery disks work if the hard drive is not exactly the same as the one that came out?

Answer:Satellite C660 - recovery disk fails error 1117

Did you think about the HDD?
It could be a HDD malfunction that does not allow you to install the system.

I recommend checking the HDD for some possible issues.

There is a nice tool called Drive Fitness Test. You can use it for HDD check.
Google simply to get the software.

I've got a L30-101 which was becoming slow to power up. Another forum suggested going into ms config to ensure max memory being used for boot up and to uncheck some start items. When I restarted, windows icons were enlarged and slightly blurry, so I undid the changes I made but windows is still not clear. The laptop is working fine otherwise, so I saved what data I needed and tried a system restore, but the computer cant find any restore points.

As a last resort I tried the Toshiba Product Recovery disk which I had never used before. It starts reading it ok, then asks for language choice English. About 10mins later it stops with the error message "Could not get a language entry from INI file! Section :[Commom] Key InstallCMD File D:\Setenv.ini.
When I hit OK to clear the message the Administrator page states Failed to initiate the raid class No RAID-continue normally.

When I restart the laptop it takes me back to my previous state with slightly blurry icons, an otherwise working laptop and all my old data is still there.

I've since bought a new Satellite L450D laptop which I am posting this from, but I am keen to try and get my L30 up and running again as a spare. I contacted Toshiba UK in case there was a fault with the recovery disk, but due licensing issues they can only redirect me to the toshiba eu backup media website to purchase a new recovery disk. As I already have a recovery disk, I dont want to buy another one to have the same results. Does anyo... Read more

At first I must say that you should back up all your important data to external device like external HD or USB stick. When you use recovery installations disc all partition will be deleted.

I don't know why you cannot use delivered recovery disc but only thing you can do is to visit nearest Toshiba authorized service provider and show the problem. If they can confirm recovery DVD is defective I presume you will get new one for free.

I spend some hours to try to create the recovery disks for my Laptop (Satellite C660-1DG)

It fails on the second DVD halfway. It just hangs. CTRL-ALT-DEL does not work anymore a cold boot is required to start the thing again.

I tried several DVD's but NOGO each time halfway the second DVD it hangs.

I really need to create these recovery DVD's because Im going to upgrade the laptop to run a Windows Server 2012 install for development purposes.

I thought this would take just a minimum amount of time but... of course...

Any thoughs on any way to get this stuff working?

Answer:Satellite C660-1DG - Toshiba Media Creator Recovery fails creating 2nd DVD

I burned just another disk and it was full of validation errors: hundreds.

So I connected my external DVD writer (NEC ND-3500AG) (firmware 2.1A) and took THE SAME DVD and burned it: presto: no problems: 0 validation errors

So I deduce that the internal DVD writer (TSSTcorp TS-L633C) (firmware TF20) is chunky.

I am still in warranty but... is it any use?

I want to create Recovery Media for my HP 15 Notebook (Model r063tu) on a Flash Drive instead of DVDs (had a bad experience with DVDs in the past). Should I buy a USB 3.0 drive of 16Gb or 32Gb capacity. I've just bought a Satellite A500-18T and before first launch, I wonder if it's possible to creat the recovery disc on an external USB hard drive rather than burning a DVD.

Answer:Satellite A500-18T: Is it possible to creat recovery disc on external HDD

No, something like this is not possible.
Please create recovery DVD and be sure you will not lose it.
For recovery disc creation I recommend you to use high quality DVD-R medias like TDK or Verbatim.
I had very good experiences with those medias in the past.

I have the above laptop which was dropped on its edge causing the hard drive to jam and fail.
This means no access to the system recovey, so I ordered recovery media from arvato Toshibas Recovery Media shop.

I fitted a new HDD slipped the recovery disk in and boom, no bootable media please insert system disk.

I tried the disk on other laptops, same thing, no bootable media, so back to arvato who kindly sent me out replacement discs ..... you guessed it....exactly the same thing so I put in my genuine windows 7 install cd and it read the disk fine.

Arvato said they asked toshiba to check the image which they did and found no errors, but arvato's stock might be faulty I thought. anyway they offered a refund which doesnt really help.

I am possibly missing something hence this post hoping one of you tosh guru's might be able to help :)

thanks in advance,

Answer:Satellite C855-1VT - Cannot boot the Recovery media disk

Maybe the image is OK but the CD/DVD drive cannot read the disk from Arvato.
What you could do is to copy this Recovery disk to another disk using another computer.
Then you could try to boot the unit using the new copied disk.
Might be worth a try?.

Additionally you could try following workaround:
Go to BIOS and check the settings for secure boot and Boot mode.
What settings do appear in BIOS?

I?m asking because you said you could boot from Win 7 disk and in such case the secure boot should be disabled and the boot mode should be set from UEFI to CSM mode.

In case you want to install Win 8 the secure boot should be enabled an UEFI should be used

If i then use that to restore the Windows 7 installation onto a new hard drive (as SSD) will that drive itself have the recovery media partition on it?

So if I then lose the USB stick could I restore again by holding down zero when powering on?

Or does it recover the Windows partition and nothing more?

Thank you

Talk about confusing. Does anyone know how to get a Toshiba C660 working after the HDD has failed and the owner has stupidly NOT followed the instructions to make a recovery disk. Will the recovery disk ( if you purchase one from Toshiba ) rebuild the new HDD along with a new recovery partition and install windows 7 (original OS ) and accept the product key printed on the Windows License attached to the base of the laptop. I have read a number of suggestions but these have been deemed incorrect by others.

Surely Toshiba must have a way of sorting this problem.

Do they read these posts ?

Answer:Satellite L660-12Q - Would recovery disk rebuild the new HDD along with a new recovery partition

Hi buddy?

I don?t think that this is really complicated? I could find all info regarding the recovery procedure in the user manual?

The recovery disk has to be created at the first day of purchase? its recommended to create one in cases something would be wrong with the HDD.

The recovery disk contain an image?. Image is a package containing Win system, drivers, tools and all the stuff preinstalled on the notebook.
You purchased the notebook and the system was already activated so you don?t need the key placed at the bottom of the unit.
Furthermore the usage of recovery disk formats the whole HDD (partitions too) and set the notebook back to the same state like at the first day of purchase.

There is also another option to recover the notebook called HDD recovery. This HDD recovery does not need recovery disk. Usage of HDD recovery would format ONLY the C (system) partition.

Please check if you can create a recovery disk using this tool!

If this is not possible, then you can check if the HDD recovery is available.

Hi All,

I have the above computer (or should I say my wife) & it has been nothing but a right pain since the first day we got it.
I have had it about 2 years & must have had to reformat the HD at least 6-8 times using the Product Recovery Disc as laptop wouldn't boot.
The laptop runs Vista.

Anyway problem I have now is that once again laptop fails to boot but for some reason Product Recovery disc also fails to work.....
What can I do...

I have read on various forums that it might work if I reformat the HD first using some s/w on a bootable CD but how/ what S/W do I use.....?
The laptop has a 160Gb SATA HD installed. How can I check this is all working.
I have no idea if current problem is S/W or hardware related..

Does Toshiba have a utility I can use...?

Many thanks for any help....

Answer:Satellite U300-13U fails to boot and Recovery disc fails to work too

What happened exactly?
Do you get some error messages using recover disk?

Please check if the HDD is OK! You can check this in BIOS.
If the HDD is listed in BIOS then the BIOS found the HDD and the HDD is not dead.

Usually you could boot the notebook using an Live disk? for example Bart PE
It?s a bootable live windows CD/DVD

This can helps to format the HDD and then to use the recovery disk!

Answer:Flex 15 - Recovery Disk Fails

hi widmark,
Welcome to the Forums.
If the SSD that you're using is smaller than the stock HDD then this is likely the problem.
During re-imaging process, the drive is partitioned according to the pre-installed image on the machine (i.e., If a system has 1TB HDD (750GB partitioned on C:\, 25GB on D:\, etc.) and is preloaded with Win8.1 in UEFI mode)  the recovery media will automatically convert the drive to GPT and apply the OS configuration and partition structure respectively.
If you use a 256GB SSD, the partition structure will not be applied, thus causing the reimaging error. This also occurs if you use a recovery drive (see Nath-PC's post in this thread)
In addition, the recovery disc is not bootable if UEFI is enabled in the BIOS, thus the need to set it to legacy mode when booting a recovery disc. Once the recovery image is loaded, you will need to undo the changes that you've made in the BIOS for the machine to boot in UEFI mode.
Things that you can try:
1. Follow this guide on how to download and create a bootable Windows 8.1 USB Installer (see Option 1 & select USB flashdrive on Step 4).
Alternatively, you can also create an ISO file (see Option 1, Step 4) and follow this guide to manually create a UEFI Installer.
2. After creating the installer above, set these settings in the BIOS (if applicable):
Security Tab:
Secure Boot = Disabled
Boot Tab:

Hello All,

My laptop for some strange reason decided to stop working. The login screen failed to appear and it said something about there being a login visualization error - in short this error message seemed to appear in place of the login screen. It wouldn't go away.

So I thought I would just use the recovery disks? But two thirds of the way along the process, it grinds to a halt with the computer saying that it cannot recover either the 4th or 5th partition possibly due to corrupt elements (CRS or something similar). Obviously now the computer hard drive has been wiped.

I have various recovery disks which I have tried and none of them seem to work. Can anyone suggest something to help?

englejas Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about problems doing recovery and wanted to help. Here is the link to the win8.1 media creation tool:  Create installation media for Windows 8.1 - Windows Help Understand, though, that you might run into a problem installing using the media created from this tool. You have an HP OEM version of Win8 installed on your PC and that means that the product key embedded in the UEFI firmware of your motherboard is OEM, not retail. While the media created from this tool SHOULD activate using that key, there is no guarantee that it will do that.  If it does not, you can use this tool to retrieve your product key and try entering it manually:  Download Windows OEM Product Key Tool - MajorGeeks IF that still does not work, then your only recourse would be to order a new set of recovery disks from HP. You can look online for Recovery Media starting with the linked paged: there, input your Product name or number. What happens if you install Windows using a Microsoft disc? Does it work or do you get an error message too? If yes it might be a hardware issue, HDD, RAM or something else.

Furthermore I did read here in forum that it?s sometimes useful to format the whole HDD before using Toshiba recovery disc.

Product recovery disk boots, windows loading files, recovery utility box shows select english, then gives option of partitions for drive or use whole drive, i click for recommended whole drive, then computer goes to black screen, erasing partition 0, erasing partition 1. *error box pops up..

hard disk # 0 is not accessible or bad raid configuration.
*Then a administrator box pops up*:... disc part failed, failed the raid class, press any key to continue, *I press a key,*, computer hangs, press a key again, another administrators box pops up with the command line,

Any nice person got any tips or advice, thanks

Answer:Satellite L30-PSL33E - product recovery fails

This is very strange?

The error message says something about RAID but the L30 does not support the RAID and also the RAID drivers are not necessary.

I?m a little bit confused and I think there could be something wrong with the HDD.
Did you try to reinstall the OS from the Microsoft original Windows CD?

Try this? format the HDD using such CD and then try again to reinstall the OS.

If this fails then a HDD issue is possible

I have done clean install of windows 7 on my soni vaio laptop. and downloded all vaio utility from sony asia pacific e support website. some of applications are perfectly installed like vaio care, vaio update, vaio recovery. but whenever I tried to istall Rescue data (x86). it says recovery partition deleted. actually I want to creat a recovery partition. how can I creat???

Answer:how to creat recovery partition?

Click start, click control panel, then go all the way down to administrative tasks; and there should be a link called create and format hard disk partitions. Click on that and from there you should just be able to follow the prompt/instructions on screen and hopefully this will get you to where you want to be. Give this a shot and see if it helps ya.

I used Lenovo Solution center to create a Win7 Recovery Media bootable USB. But it does not boot off the USB. It fails to load OS. But the Recovery Media info has been deleted from Drive Q: and anyway it said my license only allows to create one recovery disc, hence I cannot create another one. What do I do now? I want to reset to factory defaults. ThinkCenter Edge 91zWindows 7 Professional SP1

Hello everyone, I am at a loss here. I have Lenovo H520s SFF Desktop and the hard drive failed, under warranty.  Lenovo sent a service tech to my home to replace Hard Drive and Reinstall Windows 8. The service tech started the reinstallation and left, told me to follow the prompts on the screen when prompted.  Well the installation failed.  I called Lenovo, they sent the same tech again and this time he replaced the motherboard too... During the days for this to occur, Lenovo sent me 3 recovery disk sets for installation of Windows 8.  - The install starts, and goes through but does not ever finish. I have tried all 3 recover disks sets and get the same problem. After calling Lenovo again, I was told it was a setting in the BIOS that needed to be changed, but the technician and the supervisor I spoke with could not advise me which settings to change because they were not reading the same BIOS I was when they were trying to walk me through it.  All I want is to reinstall Windows 8 on my Lenovo.  I have sent requests for BIOS updates to make installation easier, but honestly, they had to get it installed on the original hard drive in the first place, how is this so difficult now to reinstall Windows 8 on a clean hard drive.  Any advice will help....

Answer:Clean Reinstall of Windows 8 from Lenovo Recovery Disk Set Fails

hi tangatangs,
Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
From your observation, it looks like there's a problem with the recovery discs. To check, we're there any error messages when the recovery process failed (eg. Recovery process fails at disc #3 with an error preMOPS fail)?
Things that you can try:
1, Download the Windows 8 Enterprise ISO 90 day trial (you will need a microsoft account to get the download link and trial key).
2. Follow this guide on how to create a bootable Windows 8 installer (either via a disc or USB)
3. Boot into the BIOS by pressing F1 and set the following settings (if applicable):
Boot/Startup Tab:
UEFI = Disabled
UEFI Boot = Legacy First
CSM = Enabled
Security Tab
Secure Boot = Disabled
Exit Tab
OS Optimized Defaults = Other OS / Disabled
When done, insert the bootable Windows 8 installer that you have created on Step 2 and press F10 to save and exit. When the machine reboots, press F12 and select the appropriate device for the Windows 8 instaler (either via DVD or USB).
If the Windows 8 Enteprise (90 day trial) installs properly then you may need to contact lenovo one more time on how to go about getting the unit serviced (you most likely need to send the unit to the repair center for re-imaging as another copy of a recovery disc set may produce the same installation problem).
I've sent you a PM regarding informatio... Read more

I'm trying to fix a PC for a relative. The problem is that it wont reboot at all after it got the blue screen at start up. The computer would continuously reboot until you turned it off. It's not possible to boot into safe mode either.

I have tried booting from a Windows XP disc. The CD drive recognises the disc and begins to boot. It will get so far and then get the error message "File sbp2port.sys is corrupted. Press any key to continue"

Doing this only results in the computer rebooting again and being stuck in a loop.

Any help or advice is much appreciated.

It gets to the point where I guess it's almost done... This is the first time I've had to recover my computer, but I did have to have Toshiba replace the hard drive that came in the computer once already.

But at the end it comes up with ERROR : 10-FA12-045D I've searched this website for that error and found nothing... If anyone could suggest something I can do to get my laptop back working it would be much appreciated...

I've also already wiped the entire computer after the first time it came up with this error and then retried the recovery discs.

Laptop configuration:

Windows 7 64 bit Professional
Linux 11.04 (dual boot)

i7, 2Gb RAM.

The computer has been running fine for the last year. I am giving the series of events below:
(Please note that linux is still running fine, so this cant be a hardware problem)

###Today, when I started my laptop, it failed to start. It showed no error, its just that after the windows logo comes, it froze in a black screen with mouse cursor visible.
###I forced restart, and then it gave me the option to repair, because windows was unable to start.
###I chose repair, and the repair program started "detecting problems". Then it gave me the option to either do a system restore or cancel. I chose system restore.
###I let it run for 3 hrs., but it seemed to make no progress, so I forced restart. (It didnt let me cancel also, said that current recovery process cannot be canceled)
###I tried to enter safe mode this time, and was successful. I went to system restore, where it showed me an option to restore to an older point where I hadnt uninstalled a game (Assassin's creed Revelations)
### For some reason, I didnt restore the system. I thought that maybe all this was a temporary problem. So I restarted normally, and tried starting windows the normal way. It failed. After the windows logo comes, there is a black screen with mouse pointer for a few seconds, then it automatically restarts. (this is what happened then, and also happens now)

Referring to an old thread of mine...

I tried a while ago to update the BIOS from v1.80 to v1.90 (both through the Service Station automatic system update tool and the direct download of the BIOS updater).

Each time the BIOS updater ran, it aborted claiming that the battery was low (it wasn't), the AC power wasn't on (it was) and the existing BIOS version was greater than the new version (it wasn't).

The real problem seems to be that the BIOS version (as reported in "Toshiba HWSetup") is:

+BIOS Version = V234567890. 00/00/00000000000+
+EC Version = 1.80+

However, in the Toshiba PC Diagnostic Tool the BIOS version on the Basic Information page is correctly reported as 1.80

At the time I couldn't be bothered to blat my disk with the factory image and try again. I hoped that Toshiba would fix the BIOS updater to solve the issue. Didn't happen.

They released v2.00 of the BIOS in June 2011 and it still wouldn't update. So I backed up my data and tried to blat the machine back to the factory state. What a nightmare...

The recovery image doesn't work properly at all!

The first bit works (the initial partition creation and image copy), but after Windows starts and the Toshiba factory script kicks in, all manner of problems start.

First, the thing gets stuck repeatedly in a "system performance evaluation" process. This happens in several phases of reboots as drivers are installed. Then there are a bunch of scripting bug error me... Read more

Answer:Satellite A660-18N BIOS update & HDD recovery fails (re-visited)

In front of me I have 3 years old notebook. In last three years Toshiba has offered 3 BIOS updates. I don?t care about it and still use original version that I got with my notebook. I mean, why to change anything and start this ?risky? update if everything works properly and it does.

Many times I read here that people write about problems with BIOS update and damaged BIOS. Such risk is not worth for me just to have newer version.

Anyway, if you want to have all latest stuff on your notebook it is definitely your legitimate right. Generally speaking BIOS updates are tested before Toshiba offers them for download so I really don?t understand why do you have such problems. The issue with recovery installation is also strange.

Few months ago friend of mine has bought A660 and I helped him to create recovery DVD and we have also tested whole recovery procedure including all three options:
Recover to out-of-box state
Recover without changing the hard drive partitions
Recover to a custom size partition

Everything worked perfectly so I?m really confused about all you write.

Unfortunately I cannot help you with all this. When I could have your notebook in front of me to see what happen exactly, it will be much easier to understand all this.
I have updated BIOS on different notebooks and I was lucky because every time everything went well.

Your notebook has valid warranty so I recommend you to contact Toshiba service provider in your country and ask for some ass... Read more

My Satellite L300 has just come back from Toshiba for repair under warranty and before having a chance to burn Recovery Disks came up with the BSOD. Removed hard drive and placed in a SATA cradle and ran chkdsk which repaired it to the extent that (back in the laptop) I could at least access the Recovery Console.

I selected return to Toshiba factory state (or something similar - can't remember the exact wording!). C prompt screen came up and all seemed to be going well until it came up with an error. Retried it twice but the error / failure notice came up both times. Tried to reboot to safe mode but no bootmgr. Removed the disk again and placed it in the SATA cradle and the C partition seems to have been wiped.

With no windows installation at all, is it possible to run the Toshiba recovery (start and holding 0 does nothing)?

Would a Windows Vista recovery disc do anything or enable me to reaccess Toshiba's recovery?

Any ideas? Help,Please!

Answer:Satellite L300 - Recovery wipes C drive then fails to rebuild

Hi mate,

Wait a moment, please! Which error message you get exactly and what you mean exactly with the SATA cradle?

Notebooks are country specific so which L300 you have exactly? This is important because the HDD recovery works different on the notebooks or let?s say there are different ways how to start it.

> With no windows installation at all, is it possible to run the Toshiba recovery (start and holding 0 does nothing)?
Another question: How you want to start the HDD recovery procedure if now Windows is installed? ;)
Right, that?s not possible!

In your case I would order a new recovery disk. You should contact the ASP in your country!

Windows has crashed on this computer and it now fails to boot up on the HD. The machine gets as far as allowing choice of which drive to boot up on, but the recovery CD fails to solve the problem, as it crashes out when attempting to review/set partitions. I can get the recovery CD to fire up and to get me to MS-Dos. Then I can look around at the files in the a:, b: (connecting a USB floppy), c:, d: and x: (the recovery cd).

Any ideas on recovery from this apparently not too serious situation?

Answer:Satellite Pro A15 - Recovery CD fails to solve windows boot failure

Hi buddy,

It?s strange that recovery disk doesn?t work because it contains a pretested image of factory settings and normally this should always work.
If not the recovery disk is faulty (scratched) or it?s a hardware malfunction?

I think the easiest way to sort this out is using an original Microsoft disk. With this disk you can also reinstall Windows.

The 500 GB Samsung Hard Drive on my HP Pavilion a6500f PC running on Windows Vista Home Premium (64-bit) crashed. I bought and installed a new 500 GB Western Digital Caviar Blue model WD5000AAKS hard drive on the PC. I ordered recovery disks from HP using the computer's serial number and confirmed that the Build ID on the recovery CDs and the sticker on my computer match. However when I attempt to recover the system Windows loads the recovery files and then I get the error:

"This PC is not supported by the system recovery discs. You will not be able to recover this system with these discs."

I have tried 2 sets of recovery discs from hp and get the same error. I have attempted to use the Cyberlink Recovery Disk Utility from hp but it fails. This Utility only supports Windows 7 per the hp page.

I would appreciate any help on how to move forward. I am new to this site so if I broke any rules please feel free to correct me. Thanks.

How much did you pay for your recovery discs and is it refundable? If you the recovery disc costs more then $100, you would be better off purchasing a copy of Windows 7 which is far more stable and a less of a memory hog.

I have a toshiba Satellite C650 that has recently come up with a disk read error. I want to access the command prompt to try some potential solutions that I have read about on the internet.

I have made a Windows 7 recovery disk using my other acer laptop which also has Windows 7 64-bit installed. When I use the recovery disk and it has loaded the files etc it just brings up a black screen and the cursor.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening?
I tried booting my acer laptop from the recovery disk and it worked fine.

Also does anyone have any suggestions as to why I am getting the 'disk read error - hit ctrl, alt and delete to restart' message?

What about reading your user manual?
You need an 8GB USB stick for creating a recovery medium and preinstalled Toshiba recovery disk creator.

> hard drive head disk has been moved to a safe position?
Yes, that?s normal and everything is ok with your notebook. Your HDD will be protected by HDD/SSD Alert utility that is a nice feature from Toshiba to avoid head crashes and can enhance the life of internal HDD.
But yoou can disable these notifications if you want. ;)

Hi there,

i have set the boot sequence to boot from cd, but the message reads: non bootable disk.

I have tried to open it with ghost but it wants a password.

Toshiba Satellite A60.

Answer:Satellite A60 - Recovery disk will not boot - error non bootable disk

First of all you will be not able to extract the ghost image file because it?s secured as you could see.

I don?t know why you cannot boot from the Toshiba Recovery CD. But a reason could be:
- The CD is faulty (scratch, not more readable)
- You used a wrong CD
- The CD/DVD drive cannot handle this CD due to the old and faulty drive laser lens.

So you should firstly check if you can boot from other Microsoft Windows CD to find out if the CD/DVD drive is ok.
If this is ok then there is a issue with your CD!!!

a few weeks ago i dowloaded SP3 which made my operating system crash, after talking with microsoft help on the phone they figured out i just need to run the xp media disk (my hard drive is fine) the only problem is that the order desk at microsoft says they don't have them to ship out since they stopped making them and Dell never gave me one with my computer purchase.

so, i need to figure out

1) where i can get a windows xp media disk for free (cheap) since i have a lisence for it.

2) how to run recovery with out wipping out my hard drive

can any one help?

Answer:need xp media center disk to run recovery

Firstly, we DO NOT help people get pirated software!

That said, if you didn't get a disk from Dell when you bought the machine then there is most likely a hidden recovery partition on your hard drive that is accessible via a function key during boot (should be a message at the bottom of the ram test screen telling you which one). Depending on the way Dell have set it up you may get an option to repair the installation without losing data. The more likely scenario is that it will want to do a complete restore (which is destructive) to bring the system back to it's virgin state. If that's the case then you will need to get all your data files off the drive (to a USB drive or a CD).

Before you go into any of the above have you tried simply uninstalling SP3? You can do that via Add/Remove Software in Control Panel.

Answer:Media Centre Recovery Disk

Put your Vista CD in, then turn off PC, when it turns on press Delete, this will put you in the BIOS Menu, look for for boot priority, set it to be boot from CD/DVD.

Press F10 then enter, when it restarts it will start to load Vista.

When you get as far as putting in the license key, you will be able to pick the disk it is stored onto, if you want to wipe the disk, then highlight the disk, click DELETE.

after that

Click NEW it will automatically set the size, click OK.

Then click FORMAT, once its done click NEXT and you are on your way.

My laptop crashed (Toshiba L305-s5921 series).
I dont have the recover discs, but I do have the recovery disc for my Toshiba A215 series.

Can i recover my laptop with this disc.

Answer:Can I use the Satellite A215 recovery disk for Satellite L305-s5921

You can not use the Recovery disk designed for A215 because the A215 is simply different notebook model which need different drivers as the L305!

The image on the recovery disk contains the OS, drivers and tools and if you would use different recovery disk then wrong drivers would be installed on the L305 and this can lead to other troubles!!!

I have read the threads on this forum, but I didn't come up with an exact answer to my problem.

With my regular PC I got a Vista Installation Disk, that also serves as recovery disk (like the one one could make with XP). One of the more useful things is that when you boot from that disk you have an option to "repair" the system, meaning that all vital files (like the bootloader...) will be restored, but for the rest all existing data wil remain. This is extremely important when for example you install a dual boot with Linux, when often Vista refuses to boot and repairing the bootloader solves the problem. Of course it can easily and quickly fix all kind of other system problems as well.

My Toshiba laptop A200 (otherwise a wonderful machine), came with the Toshiba Product Recovery disk. From all I have read on the forum and from what it says on the disk itself, I understand that it only allows for a total re-install of the whole system, factory-set, wiping out your whole disk and all on it.

Does Toshiba really leave us without a "repair" "option ??
I find that quite amazing, since after all I paid for the Vista operating system, so why shouldn't I get the options I would have if I had an original Vista disk?

If all above I is right, it means that if I want to install a dual boot with Ubuntu and would get a bootloader problem, I would loose all my data, when I only have to repair the bootloader?? (An issue that with the "repair" o... Read more

Answer:Satellite A200: Can I use Recovery disk without wiping disk

Hey Yossi

I think you have misunderstood something!

You have received the Toshiba Recovery CD with the Toshiba image! The image contains the Vista OS, Toshiba drivers, tools, utilities and additional programs!

Please don?t compare this disk to the original Microsoft Vista CD and don?t mix it!!!

So using this disk you can set the notebook back to the factory settings!!!
This is very useful because this procedure takes about 10min only and you get the whole functioning OS with all drivers, tools, etc?

Please note that no all users and customers who buy such notebook are technicians and computer scientists ;) but simply newbie and such recovery possibility is always welcome!!!

?but the usage of this Recovery CD formats the whole HDD and erases all partitions.
Therefore it?s advisable to backup the data before using the recovery CD/DVD

Hi, I am using a T400, window 7, 32 bits. Yesterday I accidentally clicked on  Start > All Programs > ThinkVantage> Create product recovery media or Create recovery media. I am not sure about which programs I clicked on but it appears an open up window asking me if I want to insert recovery disk, then I click no. It disappeared. It didn't tell me anything( like all the data will be lost and there is no progress box either; it happened very fast like in 5 seconds) and then I find that all my data in hard drive D is gone. I can not see hard drive D anymore in My computer. However I can find the partition titled "recovery partition" with 100% free storage in replace for my hard drive D in the storage management of  My computer and I cannot access it. I am so scared that I don't turn off the laptop 'till now. All the programs are working normal because I installed them on hard drive C but all the data on drive D is lost. Anyone has the same problems? I wonder such a serious software but doesn't have any prior notice to customer that it will cause data loss like this? Thanks.

unfortunately i need to recover factory default with the recovery Media (3 DVDs which i created with the "Toshiba Recovery Media Creator" Tool before starting the recovery process).

So i boot the Toshiba Recovery Wizard from the Recovery DVDs and choose "Recovery of factory default software", which starts with copying the files from the Disks.

But it will come to a point when it asks me for a further Disk (DVD 4), which i of cause don't have. And when i checked the 3 REcory Disks i noticed that one was not complety written and one was even empty.
(DVD1: 4,4 GB, DVD2: 709,1 MB, DVD3: empty)

i can't repeat "Toshiba Recovery Media Creator" because the Hard disk is already complety erased.

this is why i aks for recovery media.
is it possible to download an iso image?

Answer:Where can i get Recovery Media for Satellite L855-150

In my case I received such message that Recovery disk are OK and the procedure could be finished properly.

Answer:Need Product Recovery media for Satellite M70-122

How do you mean that your recovery does not work?

Which problem do you have exactly or which error message appears when you put the disc into the drive and press "C" to recover your machine?

Would be very interesting to know..

Please give some feedback on that case.

We bought toshiba Satelite pro S500-115, and we are very much dissapointed!!!
In first two months I brought to service three times, because it was freezing up every few hours.
Finally they changed CPU and motherboard.

Then, the major problem appeared.
I couldn't make recovery media before, because of freezing, but now, the official service also deleted the hard drive - just in case....
So, I don't have recovey media, it can't be downloaded, neither the other media from Win7 doesn't accept the number from bellow.

I send the mail for help many times to toshiba headquarters, but they just don't care! I found out that, I must pay extra to get the media - but I allready bought system! This is really shiiit, and I don't suggest to my customers to buy anything from Toshiba.

I really don't like their atitude. they just want to sell, but then they just don't care, *******es!

Answer:Satellite Pro S500-115 - Recovery media

Really sad story mate?
I think you should get in contact with a local ASP in your country.
As far as I know in many (maybe all) European countries you can find Toshiba subsidiary and I think the ASP should be able to forward this to the Toshiba in your country.

Good luck man?

PS: I had some problems with my notebook and my ASP was very helpful. I was very satisfied how the issue has been handled?

Since my problem getting my laptop to boot up I recently tried to use the recovery discs which I made 2 years ago. The first 2 seemed to load but the last one was rejected ( it was a different make DVD). I have copied it on my old Tosh.L 350 but it still does not work. I suspect that copying does not produce an exact duplicate! Is this reasonable?
Does anyone know where I can get the required recovery media and is it the same for any laptop of the same model or is it specific to mine?
After the recent failure of My C850 to boot up I eventually got the message

Your PC needs to be repaired.

Required device isn?t connected or can?t be accessed.

Error code: 0xc000000f

I followed some instructions for this so that my PC should boot up from the CD/DVD drive.but when I try this I get the message

PXE-E61 : Media test failure, check cable
followed by
PXE-M0F : Exiting PXE ROM. No bootable device -- insert boot disc and press any key.

Since the only cable attached is to the power supply does the message about the cable mean that either the CD/DVD drive or hard drive are not properly connected?
Can anyone help please.

Answer:Need recovery disk for my Satellite M30-106

Satellite M30 is pretty old notebook model and I don't believe you can order Toshiba recovery media for it.
What you can try is to contact nearest authorized service provider and ask for help.
Addresses and phone numbers you can find under > Download & Support > Find an ASP

Other way you can use Microsoft installations CD for WXP installation. All drivers and Toshiba tools & utilities you can download from Toshiba download page. Your notebook is listed in Archive.

Hello All,

I have a old Toshiba Laptop A30 141 and due to a fire we have lost the recovery disc's for it. I have tried everything I can think of including looking up the model serial number on: but no luck it says the laptop is too old or not in the correct region.

Any help would grateful.

Answer:Satellite A30-141 - Where can I get a recovery disk for it?

As far as I know on the Toshiba shop (link that you posted) you can only order recovery disk for newer notebooks they was delivered without a disk but I?m not sure.

Anyway, if you can?t order a new disk online you should contact the local ASP. They should be able to order a disk for you.
Here you can search for the nearest ASP: => Support & Downloads => Find an authorized service provider

Good luck!

I purchased a Satellite L series, L10-333 a few years ago.
Since then it started to become slow and not work aswell so I rebooted the hard drive using the reboot disc which comes with my laptop.
After this it was fine and worked perfectly.

Since then I have upgraded my laptop onto Windows Vista, from XP home edition.
Since the upgrade I have had so many different problems with my laptop, and it doesnt seem to want to work.

Can I change my laptop back to XP using the re-boot hard drive disc that comes with my laptop to do this?? Or is there something else i can do??

please help!!

Yes, you can format the HDD and can install the Windows XP from the Toshiba recovery CD!

My recovery disk for my M70 was broken (dont ask!!) and I am in serious need to recondition my laptop. Any help out there?

Answer:Need Recovery disk for Satellite Pro M70

It?s pity that you damage the recovery disk?. But maybe you could order a new one from the ASP (authorized service partner) in your country.
I said ?maybe? because I?m not quit sure if recovery disk for Sat M70 is available because the recovery disk for older notebook models could be discontinued.

However I think you should contact the ASP in your country to get more details?
If such recover would be available then an ASP should be able to order it from Toshiba?

I'm lost my recovery disk for Toshiba Satelite Pro L10.
Service in Poland say my that: Toshiba not make this disk now.
what i'm do now?

I'm must reinstall my system.

Model No. PSL15E-00x009PL, Serial No. 55016672W

Sorry, my english is poor.

Answer:Satellite Pro L10: Recovery disk is not available

It?s very strange because this unit is not very old and as far as I know you can order all recover cd. Toshiba should have always a copy of the CD or DVD. I can?t believe that it?s not possible.
I would recommend asking the ASP again or to call a different ASP in Poland.

The second possibility is to install the OS from the Microsoft CD and then to install the whole drivers and Toshiba tools.
This Toshiba stuff you will find on the Toshiba driver page.

Hi there,

every time a make a post the next day it is deleted..
Could somebody tell me why..?

I need a recovery CD for my Satellite M70.
Probably this question is asked before.. But i really need a help?

Answer:Need Satellite M70 Recovery disk

If you need a Recovery disk then you would have to ask your ASP in your country for such disk.

In very rare cases you will be not able to order a Recovery disk if the notebook series is too old. In such case you will have to install the Windows OS using the Microsoft disk and then you could download and reinstall the Toshiba driver which you could find on the Toshiba European page.

I just formatted my hard drive but during the recovery process, I discovered that one of the recovery CDs is damaged and cannot be read. Now the computer is inoperable.

I'm looking for recovery CD 2 of 2. The number on the CD is PMR400139ENO. I emailed my local ASP (Al-Futtaim Electronics-CSO) a week ago, but have still heard nothing...

Is there a place where I can download the contents of this disk?

Answer:Satellite A50: Need second disk of Recovery CD

unfortunately it's not possible to download recovery CD images.
You can only get a new one from an ASP.
Maybe you should call them.

But if you have a normal version of Windows, you can install this, and download the drivers and software from Toshiba's driver download page.

How can I get hold of these discs now?

Answer:How to get the Recovery disk for Satellite M50-161

>I need a recovery disc or the original software disc for XP but none of this was supplied with it.
I'm in doubt about it. According notebook specification Satellite M50-161 is delivered with follow medias:
- Recovery Medias (CD-ROM or DVD)
- Express Media Player
- Additional Software CD
- Microsoft Works Suite

All old notebook models are delivered with recovery CDs. I have old Satellite m70 and still have original Toshiba recovery installations DVD.

Anyway, you can try to contact nearest Toshiba authorized service provider and ask for help. To be honest I don't believe you will get it for this old notebook model. For OS installation you can also use Microsoft installations CD. All drivers, tools and utilities you can download from Toshiba support page under

Hi buddy,

I think you have to install the correct drivers because the other recovery disk contains wrong drivers. Just check the Toshiba website: > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

Furthermore from Toshiba you can?t get a recovery disk. You have to contact an authorized service provider.

When trying to run the recovery disk on my A75 I get a message that it will not run on a non Toshiba machine. It looks like I'm missing some system files.

Answer:Trying to run the recovery disk on my Satellite A75

Do you use the Recovery disk delivered together with this notebook?
Are you sure you?ve got the right disk?

The other reasons could be a faulty or missing information in the DMI.
The DMI contains details about the notebook model, series number and other necessary details.
If such information is not correct then the notebook cannot be recognized as a Toshiba unit and therefore the Toshiba recovery procedure would be not possible.

Check this US page:\

There you can find info regarding the DMI and Sat A75

We have bought around fifty new Lenovo ThinkCenter computer. Do I need to make the recovery CD/DVD for EACH computer? Or I can simply create the recovery CD/DVD for only one computer and use those to recover anyone in the batch?
I'm used to do make this series of disks:  1 CD-R for the "boot media";  1 DVD-DL for the first "data carrier";  1 DVD-R for the second and last "data carrier".
Is it mandatory to make those 3 CD/DVD for every single computer? Or only doing it on one computer and I will be able to recover any computer of the 50 (they are all the same)?
Thanks a lot.

Answer:Recovery disk or media creation for multiple systems

You only need the one set of recovery disks, assuming that all the machines are the same, AND loaded with the same version of the OS. (32 bit vs 64 bit)

I am an Ubuntu user since last many years. Recently, I purchased Lenovo Thinkpad T460P which comes with Windows 10 Home edition pre-loaded. In spite of despising the idea of pre-loading a non-free OS (and thereby robbing the buyer) with utmost passion, I ended up buying this one because of more important reasons. Some creep at Lenovo decided to partition as below which is kind of useless for any non-n00b user.  I want to set up a dual boot between Windows 10 and Ubuntu. However, it seems neither `Refresh` nor `Reset` option brings up the partitioning UI. As I have not purchased the copy of Windows 10 separately (though paid the price as a bundled component), I am not sure if this is at all an option. I can create a recovery media, but I am almost certain that it's going to refabricate the same layout. Moreover, if I install Windows 10 afresh, I have to take the pain of installing all the drivers myself. Probably, I can use the `Shrink Volume` feature. But, I suspect the next time I go for a recovery, it'll overwrite the partition I will be installing Ubuntu. Is it anyway possible to make the recovery mechanism ask for a custom partitioning layout?
