Recovery CD's do not recover Satellite C660-1WN

Question: Recovery CD's do not recover Satellite C660-1WN

I ordered a set of 2 Toshiba recovery CD's and received them yesterday in order to fix this laptop from a Windows breakdown...

The problem arising at start up is that Windows 7 isn't starting up plus that the hard disk doesn't show in the BIOS (the DVD-drive does) and after the boot sequence the following message comes up: ?Reboot and select proper boot device or insert root media in selected boot device? Someone suggested the drive is broken or the cables to the same detached or lose.

The owner says, that the error first appeared after McAfee offered to "remove 15 errors found on the disk". The laptop has never been opened.

When running the recovery CD 1 the boot sequence starts the recovery but initially shows two pop-ups that indicate that the hard disk cannot be found.

First error message - ERROR: IOCTL_DISK_GET_LENGTH_INFO \\. \PHYSICALDRIVE0 The device is not ready.

Second error message says something like - There is no access to disk #0 or the RAID configuration isn't correct!

After accepting both messages the prompt hands out the error that also appears in this thread...

...and stops at this line...

X:\ windows\ system32 >

...reporting that the recovery failed.

I have fooled around with the advices in this thread...

...where there are some commands that show the state of the disk. Using the list disk command I can find the hard disk which however shows that it doesn't have a designated drive letter, where the status is No Media and values for Size and Free is 0 bytes.

Checking the partition information hereafter, the partition for the the DVD-drive (volume 1) is active and mounted and - apparently - the hard disk (volume 0) shows that it doesn't have any label, where Fs holds no information, Type is listed as Removable, Size is 0 bytes and Status is No Media.

I then tried to assign the letter F to the hard disk that did not have a letter assigned to itself and which was reported as successful but after another reboot and trying to run the recovery cd, the same first mentioned process started all over again with the disk failing to show...

Preferred Solution: Recovery CD's do not recover Satellite C660-1WN

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Recovery CD's do not recover Satellite C660-1WN

(...continued from first post...)

Left to be said is that I also - before I ordered the recovery CDs - ran the second diagnostic DOS tool in the first table to check the disk and got the following report...

- HDD power cable is not properly attached to the HDD

- HDD interface cable is not properly attached to the HDD

- HDD master-slave setting is incorrect

...and equally that no disk could be detected.

My question is now..., what is wrong here? Is it the physical disk that might be the problem? Is it the software? MBR? Can the latter be restored by some command in the prompt? If, then how? Would it be easier to erase the whole disk and then use the recovery CDs? Or won't this work since the recovery CDs can only work with the recovery information on the disk (I assume that this information is only physically on the disk not on the recovery CDs, isn't this correctly understood)?

I am looking forward to any input and help. Thanks in advance.

Hello I hoping you can help me.

I currently used the startup recovery mode on my laptop, as my laptop had been infected with somesort of malware, which slowed my laptop down, making it unusable, Therefore I turned to the recovery, after i did the recovery i found that i was unable to use my laptop, it seems to be that the OS is gone, I cannot access normal mode or safemode, And the Recovery option has now dissapeared from the F8 menu, I am stuck on ideas on what to do, I only got the laptop 5 months ago and now its totally useless.

I look forward to your advice,
Thanks in advance,
Aaron

Answer:Cannot recover my Satellite C660-1ZM

Hello Aaron

Have you maybe created recovery DVDs following Toshiba?s recommendation?
If yes you can install recovery image using these discs. If not you can order new one on - https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

HDD recovery installation is screwed up and you will not be able to start it anymore.
Sorry.

Hello,
I own a Satellite C660-1MG
equipped with Windows 7 and since the pc crashed often I decided to restore it to its factory settings. But unfortunately I have no cd recovery and I no have a copy of the dvd windows 7 so I can not restore it.
Also my PC deleted all previous restore points to 2015 so even with this procedure I will have no improvements.
I went to the Microsoft website to download a copy of Windows 7, but by entering the product key tells me that I contact the manufacturer Toshiba.
What I could use is the recovery discs for Windows 7 to restore the notebook to its factory settings,
thanks a lot,
I expect a fairer your feedback.
Best regards
Salvatore Muni.

I'd like to recover my Toshiba Satellite C660 to it's original state.

I did not create any DVDs at startup.

On the D: partition there is an 11GB folder called HDDrecovery.

When I press F8 at startup I do not see any option to use them.

does anyone know how I can recover? The option circled in red is not available.

Hi everyone !
I have Toshiba Sattelite C660-1J9 laptop, and it's been working fine - until a day my HDD died. Now it's producing some weird sounds on startup, and no HDD visible in BIOS. It's not a problem for me to buy new HDD and replace it, but I'd like to restore licensed Windows I had with laptop - so I need to place recovery partition on new HDD somehow. Is it possible and where I can find this recovery partition image ?
Thanks in advance !

I need some help for my sons laptop which is the Satellite Pro C660-1LR.

The hard drive in this laptop completely died, i did not create a recovery disc for this laptops system.
I have purchased a new hard drive which is installed..however as you have guessed i have no access to reinstalling a OS, this laptop runs on windows 7.

I am not really tech savvy so if anyone can advise me please make explain in idiot proof format!! I am trying to avoid having to purchase anything to costly.

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-1LR - New HDD but no recovery disc

> I am trying to avoid having to purchase anything to costly.
Problem is that you don't have many options about that.
If you want to have ?factory settings? again you need recovery installation disc. You can order it on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx Of course it is not for free but, in my opinion, definitely the best solution.

You can buy Microsoft installation disc and install own version. You must buy valid licence for it.
In this case you must install all necessary drivers, tools and utilities additionally one by one.

Just in case that you can get this Microsoft installation and licence for free you can save some money.

Believe me the best solution is original recovery disc order.

Apologies if this is the wrong subforum:

Being the idiot I am, I changed my WIndows Login password and since I use very long passwords, I have no idea what I changed it to. Guessing is out of the question.

So I powered on my laptop while holding the 0 key, which brought me to the Windows Boot Manager screen. I pressed F8 on Windows 7 for advanced options and opted for 'Recovery Mode' as I have used this in the past to install the OS from scratch.

It asks me to select a keyboard layout and then enter my username and password to procede with HDD Recovery. It is this lack of password which is the reason for recovery.

Any advice on what I can do?

Thanks

Answer:HDD Recovery Issue on C660 Satellite

>It asks me to select a keyboard layout and then enter my username and password to procede with HDD Recovery. It is this lack of password which is the reason for recovery.
On this step you must enter your Windows login name and login password. Without right password you will not be able to start HDD recovery installation.

There is second option to install recovery image. You can do it now using recovery DVD. Have you created it using preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator?

It is know stuck at this and will not go any further says to get system admin to log in however its not allowing to log in or do anything apart from shut down and restart, I have been trying to factory reset but it will not work at all I have tried many attempts with 0 and other options i have been told this doesn't work but I can get up f2 and f8 on load up all that works ok but I cannot find any option to be able to factory reset. it gives me options to recover but they take me to the same screen with no improvements and safe mode will not work.

I hope someone can help me I will be so grateful.

Thank you in advance.

Answer:Satellite C660-15r stucks and no recovery possible

At first I must say that recovery option is available if notebook has ?factory settings?. After reading your posting I don?t know if you still use original OS installation that you got with your notebook or maybe OS preinstalled on your own.

I presume you didn't create recovery media (DVD) using preinstalled Toshiba recovery media creator, right?
In your situation usage of recovery disc could be easiest way to fix this and install original recovery image.

Can you please post exact notebook model?

is there a way to make the recovery disks install win7 x32 instead of x64 (Satellite Pro C660-2JR)

Answer:Recovery disks creation for Satellite Pro C660-2JR

If your notebook was delivered with 64bit version you can create recovery disc for this preinstalled version only. With other words, recovery image saved on recovery partition will be saved on empty DVD disc. Nothing more than that.

If you want to use 32bit OS you must check if your notebook model is supported for it and install own version.

Hello,

A month ago I purchased a Toshiba C660-1FE. After three weeks my HD broke down. I bought a new HD from Western Digital and replaced the broken HD. As I did not make an recovery image of my HD, I had to order the Product recovery discs off the Toshiba website (3 discs, of which disc 1 and 3 were the only one's required for installation).

Now, I have the problem that my laptop keyboard does not work. I am currently using a USB keyboard and mouse to replace my keyboard and touchpad of the laptop.

The laptop keyboard works fine in BIOS. Therefore, I hope it's just a driver problem.

I have:

tried finding and installing lots of drivers on from the toshiba website, no result.
tried changing settings in the bios (usb enable/disable).
tried to fix the problem by re-installing the entire computer again several times.

The keyboard seems to work until windows loads. When the system is starting up I can press caps lock and num lock and the green lights come on. This all stops working once the windows startup symbol appears.

Perhaps a second problem in the device manager: under the display-adapter, 2 subcategories have exclamation marks: it says Mobile Intel(R) 4 series express chipset family twice! I can't seems to fix these with any drivers I can find either. When I check the settings I have this message (google translate since it was in dutch):

Answer:After Recovery with CD Satellite C660-1FE keyboard does NOT work

Hi

Keyboard works in BIOS? this means that the keyboard hardware should be ok and the connection between the motherboard and keyboard is established.

So what could be wrong? Keyboard driver?
Hmm? the keyboard driver is a part of the Windows OS and is installed automatically while OS installation?
I would recommend following:
Go to device manager and extract the point Keyboard.
There you should see something like ?standard PS/2 keyboard?
If you will see a red cross near this device, then this means that the keyboard is disabled.
Usually you should be able to enable this again (in device manager).
If there is no red cross, then I recommend deleting this keyboard from the device manager list?then reboot the notebook. Usually the OS should recognize the removed device automatically and should install the driver too.

Check this.

By the way: it could be possible that you have received a wrong Recovery disk? this could explain the issues after the recover procedure?

Posting this question for my neighbour as he now has no internet access as laptop not working - Satellite C660 running Win7.

When powering up he gets the Toshiba screen then a blank screen with cursor at the top left flashing.

Tried to boot from Win7 DVD (Pressed F12 to get to boot options & changed to DVD), can hear the drive trying to access the dvd but then get the message 'failed'. Win7 DVD works in both my laptop and desktop pc's.

Any ideas.

Thank you

Answer:Satellite C660 Won't boot from HDD or recovery disks

> When powering up he gets the Toshiba screen then a blank screen with cursor at the top left flashing.

Possibly the HDD is dead.
You ca try to power up the unit and press F2
Now you should be able to access the BIOS.

If the HDD isn?t listed on the first BIOS page, then this means that HDD isn?t recognized by BIOS and this means that HDD is faulty.

Hello,

on the laptop TOSHIBA C660, replaced the hard drive and, as a fact, the OS flew down (Windows 7 SP1 HB x 64).
Installed not licensed, there was no way out, on the Microsoft website, to download the image, the key from the laptop is not suitable.

Not a licensed image, there was no desire to put, the assembly is an assembly, naturally installed such an operating system behaved badly, buggy.

Done, and now the laptop does not work.
In the service center installation of OS and drivers costs 3500 rbl.

Offensively. So I'm looking for help on the forum.

Please, kindly request help. Thank you.

Toshiba recovery disc can be created with preinstalled ?Toshiba recovery media creator tool? ONLY.

Hi!

I have a laptop from a client, that is a Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-239, and i'm having a strange issue.

The original hard disk failed, and as the laptop is out of warranty, we bought a new hard disk, and ordered the recovery media to this model, from our local toshiba repair assistance.

After the setup copied the files to the disk, the imageX fails when restoring the image files with the error:

"the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable".

The hard disk is new, and i tried also with more 2 hard disks, and also with an external cd-rom drive.

I talked with the support from the local repair assistance, and they told me this occurs because the new hard drive ins't compatible with the recovery media?!

One of the new hard disks i tried, was the exact same model than the original hard disk, and the error still occurs, so the hard disk can't be the problem.

Is there any change of the recovery media is corrupted?

Could also be a motherboard problem?

Thank you

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-239 - Error restoring from recovery media

> Is there any change of the recovery media is corrupted?
Of course this is possible.
In case the HDD is OK, the recovery media could be corrupted.

>Could also be a motherboard problem?
I don?t think so?. I presume the HDD is recognized in BIOS properly and the error message says something about corrupted directory. I guess the disk directory is meaning and I think media should be replaced.

Strange problem. My Satellite C660D-1FM was doing a bunch of updates from Microsoft (hadn't done any updates for ages as it was used by my daughter and not connected to the internet) and after they had completed it rebooted and I got the Toshiba splash screen and then nothing. Holding F8 gives the same problem, tried holding the '0' key while powering on and that was the same. Connected an external monitor and it's the same. I can get into the BIOS and everything looks fine.

So, thinking the hard drive might be faulty I fitted another hard drive and fully installed Win7 from a Microsoft DVD (SP1 and all updates) and everything works. I then thought I'd try and restore the laptop to default factory settings using the Toshiba recovery DVD's which Id created. All worked fine during the install, all 3 DVD's installed and it went through the setup procedure, laptop got to the end when it wanted to reboot, rebooted and now back to the same error - Toshiba splash screen is ok but then it just goes blank. To convince myself I wasn't going mad I then re-installed Win7 from my Microsoft DVD and it installs fine, does all updates and has worked all day today with no issue.

Anyone any idea what's going on?

Answer:Satellite C660 - blank screen after recovery image instalation

Hmmm... something like this should not happen.
Do you use recovery discs for the first time?
Have you noticed the same result on both HDDs?

Problem is that there is no much to do about that and there is no way to change anything while recovery installation runs or later when windows setup is in progress.

Try to set BIOS to default settings and simply try to install recovery image again.

Hi all

Just a query
My GF turned on her laptop Satellite C660 series and it would not boot up, we tried to initiate the recovery sequence from the recovery partition but kept getting the error that was on boot up (the error was telling us a USB device had been unplugged).

As you probably guessed she never made the back-up discs when prompted, all I could think of was using a win 7 disc and reload that way then try and make the recovery discs after (I didn't activate)
so win 7 was installed nicely and all drivers sourced that was all last week.
Now for the crunch , the recovery partition is there can I now make the recovery discs and install from those , the win 7 I installed will soon require activation
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite C660 - recovery partition is there but can I make back up discs?

After own OS installation you cannot create recovery disc anymore and you can not install recovery image using HDD recovery option (F8 at start-up).

Best thing you can do now is to order original disc from Toshiba and use it for recovery image installation. It is definitely easiest way to have ?factory settings? again.
You can order it on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

Answer:Re: Satellite C660/C660D will using recovery erase data on D partition?

Hi

From my knowledge using Recovery Disk would format the whole HDD and all partitions would be created again during this process.
This means that your data on D partition is not safe.

But from my experience the usage of HDD recover would format only the system (C) partition? not quite sure if this applies to all the Toshiba notebooks so possibly you should test this first time? in such case would recommend backup the data in case D partition would be erased.

Please can anyone help. I tried using my recovery disks to restore my notebook when it kept failing to start properly. The disks did not work so I purchased a set of disc from Toshiba on this website. I still have the same problem.

Is it the hard drive failing or something else?

If I purchase a new hard drive will the recovery disks work if the hard drive is not exactly the same as the one that came out?

Answer:Satellite C660 - recovery disk fails error 1117

Hi

Did you think about the HDD?
It could be a HDD malfunction that does not allow you to install the system.

I recommend checking the HDD for some possible issues.

There is a nice tool called Drive Fitness Test. You can use it for HDD check.
Google simply to get the software.

Hi,

1st time forum poster so be gentle please!

My mum has just brought a Toshiba laptop and it's pretty decent to be fair. Taking a quick look at it though i noticed the recovery partition (that comes with most laptops now) is labelled "D:/Data and is 232GB in size. Seems a bit on the large side for me and wondering if it is incorrect?

Have got a screenshot and if someone could confirm either way i'd be most grateful. Can i attach screenshots?

Thanks in advance

I have a brand-new Satellite Pro C660. It worked fine for a day, now it won't load windows. I didn't get around to creating the recovery disks as I've only had it a few hours (yes, yes, I know, should have been the first thing I did). All the data is present (but backed up to USB just in case) and I can see the HDDREcovery folder with all data intact. However, I can't run the app to create recovery disks. Does anyone know how to extract the images and create the media using only the command prompt? (I can get into command prompt by booting from a friend's Win 7 disk). All boot options from the laptop's own drives fail. It says "Windows Failed to Load", and I try Startup Repair but it doesn't find any errors. Any help/thoughts on this will be much appreciated!

Answer:Re: Satellite Pro C660 - How to make recovery disk with command prompt?

Hey,

It?s not possible to create recovery disk with command prompt. You have to use the Toshiba recovery media creator on Windows.

Now it?s too late for you but you can order such a disk here:

This is my second attempt to recovery using the hidden image. The first attempt hung at an earlier point Loading Windows 7 ;( However on this attempt it has been over an hour on the "Setup is starting services" screen with a moving light under it.

Does anyone have any reasonable idea how much time this process takes? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite C660-1F1 Toshiba HDD Recovery "Setup is starting services" hang?

Powered off after 2 hours.

Seems that it could be BIOS version currently 1.2 needs upgrade to a more recent version so I'll have a look at that. Also possible issue with bootrec maybe.

I'll update later :)

I spend some hours to try to create the recovery disks for my Laptop (Satellite C660-1DG)

It fails on the second DVD halfway. It just hangs. CTRL-ALT-DEL does not work anymore a cold boot is required to start the thing again.

I tried several DVD's but NOGO each time halfway the second DVD it hangs.

I really need to create these recovery DVD's because Im going to upgrade the laptop to run a Windows Server 2012 install for development purposes.

I thought this would take just a minimum amount of time but... of course...

Any thoughs on any way to get this stuff working?

Answer:Satellite C660-1DG - Toshiba Media Creator Recovery fails creating 2nd DVD

I burned just another disk and it was full of validation errors: hundreds.

So I connected my external DVD writer (NEC ND-3500AG) (firmware 2.1A) and took THE SAME DVD and burned it: presto: no problems: 0 validation errors

So I deduce that the internal DVD writer (TSSTcorp TS-L633C) (firmware TF20) is chunky.

I am still in warranty but... is it any use?

I purchased a Toshiba Satellite M30 laptop in June 2004 and the warranty has now expired. However, I recently realised that I had either lost the recovery CD, or the vendor did not supply one (I did not get it directly from Toshiba). I want to reinstall Windows XP (which came with my machine) and restore my machine to its 'factory state' - however I don't know the safest way to do this.

I have no recovery CD. I have looked on several websites which say to burn the I386 folder which I have to disk, but I don't know if the solution is as simple as booting from this CD. Any and all help would be most welcome!

Many thanks.

I have a satellite Pro laptop which I have to fix for my sister in law ...long story....(cant remember model no, as I m at work at the moment !) but its only 4 weeks old and she had done something redicuous to it, so I decided that i would use the recovery cd to reinstall the os.

The image uncompresses to the disk, it tells me to remove the media, then reboot. Upon reboot, the system just gets into the xp load screen then a windows message pops up saying "Windows is not fully installed - Please run the setup program", then it reboots !

Is this a common problem, or can anyone shed any light on it, as this is a new laptop, nothing done to the hardware and I am using the correct cd which came with the system.

The system has twice gone into xp and began the setup wizard (where you put in your usernames and passwords), once this finishes and it attmpts to go straight into xp, I get a blue screen and the inevitable freeze !

I don't mean to sound Pious, but please don't ask me if I've checked that the hardware is attached or anything, I am actually a field engineer for an IT firm, I just have no experience of Toshiba machines or this recovery cd issue.

Any help you guys out there could give me would be greatly appreciated, as Id hate to have to return a bloody new laptop to the manufacturer unless its absolutely necessary.

Many Thanks
Andy

Answer:Not possible to recover the Satellite Pro with recovery CD

Hi Andy,

The recovery CD contains a 'ghost' image of the operating system which will contain the basic Windows system together with most of the Toshiba specific software and drivers.

Booting from the recovery CD will normally load a Win98 operating system which will then restore the 'ghost' image to the hard drive.

Normally the recovery process will ask if you want to restore the entire C: drive or use the 'expert' mode in which you can partition the hard drive. Obviously if you reach the point where the system reboots then the restore of the 'ghost' image has finished and the Windows set-up process has begun

I can only presume that there must be a problem with the hard drive if the 'set-up' process has subsequent problems. As an IT professional you may have access to a suitable boot CD (such as Norton Disk Doctor) in which case I would suggest you analyse the harddrive for potential problems and if necessary return the notebook under the warranty for it to be repaired.

My laptop was running very slow as it was clogged up for 5 years. Decided to wipe it clean and start fresh.
I attempted a full recovery using the original recovery CD during which the application errored leaving me with a hard drive that is detected in BIOS but not writeable.

Steps I took
- boot with CD1, holding C
- chose option 1. This started formatting my drive

After which, I was presented with a black screen saying !!! ERROR!!!.
The log file which followed indicated a write failure with error 29005.

Attempted to install OS using WinXP CD but it failed at the point of formatting it (wouldn?t go past 20%)

Took the drive out, connected it to my desktop via IDE > USB. It powered up and was recognised by windows (could see it as an additional local drive in my computer).
I attempted to format it NTFS through windows and got a similar failure.

Placed it back in the laptop, loaded BIOS and I could see it there under the boot devices menu. Loaded defaults in BIOS in hope that would change anything then re-ran the recovery but got the same output - i.e the apps can?t seem to write to it.

Does this indicate a failed drive?

It?s strange cos my laptop was working fine (albeit slow) up until I ran the recovery and wiped the data. Only thing I can think of is while it was wiping, I must have moved the laptop which could have damaged it as it was being written to?

Answer:Failed to recover Satellite M30 using recovery CD

resolved recovery by formatting the drive using partition magic. managed to load widows but encountering further problems. cant install anything. each ime i try, the installer (be it sp2, kaspersky, office, etc...) will stall at some point and complain about write errors in their own ways.

does this indicae a problem with the hard disk or the ide controller?
if it's the former, i'l just have to go out and buy new hard drive.

Laptop came with Win 8 preinstalled.

Ordered recovery media from Arvato.

Tried unsuccessfully many times to recover laptop using the discs. Same problem occurs:-

*initializing partition completed
*"Copying files please wait" for 1.5 to 2 hours
*"An error has occurred.
error :0002
Copy image error

Now the HDD is completely deleted.
Suspect the recovery media and have asked for replacement,

Any help / settings would be appreciated.

Answer:Cannot recover Satellite C855D-15W with recovery DVD

Hi

In my opinion there are two possible reasons why the recovery procedure fails.

1) HDD malfunction
2) Recovery disk malfunction

I think you should firstly check if the HDD isn?t the troublemaker.
Go to BIOS (F2) and check if the HDD is listed on the first BIOS page.
In case it is, the HDD might be OK

In this case the Recovery disk could be faulty.
In such case you should get in contact with the disk provider/supplier (Arvato) to get new medium.

Hej everybody!

I have been struggling with a strange problem last few days, I still cannot figure it out, so if anybody has any ideas so pls...

I have 2 Satellite A10 notebooks. I've lost the recovery CD to one of them, so when I wanted to re-install the notebook I decided to use the other one's recovery CD to do it, since they are identical...at leat I thought they were...

I had repartitioned the notebook with fdisk and made the partition active, formated it and then when I boot with recovery CD it started, began to dump files, but at about 20% percent it just said 'recovery failed' or something 'partition is not active', and reboot. When I rebooted it I saw that the C partition's format was gone(it said unformated or damaged partition).

Now I've tried 1 partition, 2 partitions, FAT32, NTFS, no joy....I suspect that you must have some special setup of partitions to make the recovery successful, but I don't know how.

I haven't tried to reinstall the other notebook with the recovery CD because I'm afraid it will go wrong too...
Can anybody help me pls?

Answer:Satellite A10: Can not recover system with recovery CD

Hello Linus

Before you start recovery procedure it is not necessary to do anything. Simply start recovery procedure. I really do not know why the recovery procedure stops after 20% but please do not prepare HDD before you use delivered recovery procedure.

If I am remembering well you can use two options before recovery procedure starts: standard and expert mode. If you use standard mode the whole HDD will be erased and recovery image will create just one partition (whole HDD capacity). Using expert mode you can create own partition and later in disk management (under running WXP) create second logical partition.

Please try both options. If recovery CD is not damaged I really do not see any reason why recovery procedure can not be done successfully.

Hey!

Recently i purchased a Toshiba A350 disc. I've format both the discs and went with a clean sweap install of windows vista. Now, a few months later i want to use the Toshiba Recovery Discs i made on the first startup, to recover my Toshiba laptop and set it back to the default installation.

With the tool to create Toshiba Recovery Discs, i had to make 2 recovery discs. The first DVD contains the Windows installation, and the 2nd DVD contains SWM files.

I started the recovery by putting recovery disc 1 in my DVD player and boot it up. After boot it installed Windows Vista, and it never asked for DVD2. After the installation, I have a clean Windows Vista, but no Toshiba pre installed drivers, software etc.

How can I recover my laptop to the default settings, the way i bought it?

thnx for ur awnser,

Answer:Satellite A350-12D - How to recover from recovery DVD?

Hi

Usually the Toshiba Recovery disk should contain the image.
The image is the package which contains the Vista, Toshiba drivers/tools and the additional software.

The Toshiba Recovery disk Creator can create the Recovery disk using the image on the notebook and therefore it?s not understandable for me and I cannot believe why you get only clean Vista without the Toshiba drivers and tools and 3rd party software.

You did everything right. In order to recover the notebook, you have to boot from Recovery disk and have to follow the instruction on the screen.

That?s all?.

PS: I the drivers and tools are really missing then you could download it from here:

Hi,

Can someone please help,

I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite C660/C660D for my nephew, We have forgotten the administrator password and we don't have password reset disk is there anyway around this.

Thanks

Answer:I forgot my administrator password on Satellite C660/C660

Hi

I assume you are talking about windows system password and not about BIOS password. Right?
It?s not very big problem if you forgotten the System password but if you mean BIOS password then you are in trouble because the BIOS password can be deleted just by an Toshiba ASP technicians?

So I assume you mean Windows password? so start the notebook and press F8
Now you can choose Repair my Computer and then choose HDD recovery.
This would start a HDD recovery procedure which would reinstall the system? during the setup you can set anther admin password.

Of course there are some other methods but as far as I know this requires 3rd party software/tools or Win 7 DVD? so I think the HDD recovery is the fastest solution.

First of all, sorry for my very bad english.

I bought a portable PC 9 months ago, Toshiba Satellite A300. I have had problems with a virus and the result is that despite of the actions of clean and disinfection, the computer remains infected and I have denied the access to the hard disks and regedit.

I have thought to recover the operating system preinstaled of factory (I hope it is the solution and not the formatting) and Barrie told me to check http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9102IR0000R01.htm

I did it but the PC says that it's imposible because there's no files. I didn't make a rescue CD (so newbee).

What can I do?

Answer:Satellite A300 - How recover the OS without having Recovery disk?

Hi

Did you already install another OS?

Normally the HDD recovery as Barrie suggested always works if the preinstalled Windows from Toshiba is installed but sometimes due viruses it could not work. I mean if you don?t have success with this you will need a Toshiba recovery disk to get back factory settings.

A new recovery disk you can order here:

Hey guys

I just bought my Toshiba Satellite L305D half month ago and now my computer kind of not working.
So I?m thinking of to recovery my laptop to when I first bought it but you know when I bought it, it doesn?t come with any recovery disc so I don?t know what to do.

Is any one know how to recovery laptop without a disc?

I'm new at this problem
So please if u knows how to do
Please write down the specific detail to show me how to do

Thank you!

Answer:How to recover Satellite L305D without recovery disk?

Hi!

First of all you should check the user manual. There you can find all details about how to recover a Toshiba notebook.

Anyway, if your notebook came without recovery disk you can create one using Toshiba recovery disk creator. Therefore you need one or two DVDs and then you have the factory settings on a DVD.
If you have created the recovery disk you can boot from it and follow the screen instructions. Windows will be reinstalled and you get the factory settings back.

But you can also recovery a Toshiba notebook without recovery disk. Therefore go in the advanced boot menu with F8 and choose ?repair my computer?. Now you can choose the Toshiba recovery option and follow the screen instructions.

If you have more questions you can search a little bit in the forum. You will find enough threads about the recovery procedure.
Furthermore you should check this document:

Hi All,

I am trying to restore my A100 laptop to factory settings *without* a recovery CD via pressing a sequence of keys while booting (which should fire up the recovery partition located on the hard drive).

The truly sad thing is, I know this can be done as I have done it before butI can't for the life of me remember what that key sequence was nor can I find the article that I initially stumbled on!

I have scoured the web looking for this key sequence and all suggested solutions I came across don't seem to work.

Failed attempts so far:
- holding down 0 when powering up
- various suggested "F" keys: F1, F8, F10
- holding down delete

Note: I guess it may be worth mentioning that pressing F8 does in fact take me to the "advanced windows boot options" screen however I don't have any recovery options.

So yeh, I would *hugely* appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction here as it's driving me insane... the fact that I have done this before makes it that much worse!

As far as I know the A100 series has not been equipped with the HDD recovery partition!
And therefore I doubt that any key combination will start the recovery from partition!

Therefore you only chance to recover the notebook is taking the recovery disk and then to boot from it.
You can also try to install the OS from Microsoft Windows disk and then could install the Toshiba drivers from the Toshiba driver website!

Hi together,

I got a big problem. Win 7 Home Premium 64 BIT crashed on my satellite L550D-13V.

I tried to repair but it doesn't work. So I decided to recover via HDD Utility.
Everything seems to be okay but in the end the tool said that errors occured. I tried to recover again but the process aborted with bluescreen "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA" this time.

After reboot system told me that no bootmgr is available. I tried to boot by using recovery disk but it also seems to be faulty because the system cannot not boot from the disks.

And there's my problem. I am unable to boot / recover now. Volume D seems to be okay - the HDD utility files are still available but I cannot create new recovery disks and it is not possible to boot into HDD utility tool.

Do you have any ideas?

Many thanks in advance and regards

Answer:Satellite L550D-13V - How to recover without recovery disks?

Hi

The story is strange?
I?m wondering why you are not able to boot from the Recovery disk?
Did you use the created recovery disk in the past or did you try this disk for the first time?

However, regarding the error message: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
I googled for that and it seems that this could be related to memory fault.
Possibly one of the modules malfunctions.

Of course this is just an personal opinion?

If an HDD folder is available on your HDD, then there is a small chance to get the HDD recovery to work. Here a interesting thread:

Answer:Satellite A210-11K - Can I recover my data before using the recovery disk?

You can backup your data if you put the HDD in an external HDD case. Then you can connect it to another notebook or PC and you can save the data on it or burn it on a DVD.
That?s all!

Such external HDD cases are very cheap. I have bought my external HDD case from eBay and it?s working well.

But there is no other way to save the data because the Toshiba recovery disk wipes the whole HDD and all on the HDD will be erased.

I have a Satellite P750 with a fatally damaged HDD and no recovery discs. I have a Qosmio X770 that I can make recovery discs from.

Both machines were running Windows 7 and both have licence codes. Can I use recovery discs from the Qosmio to load onto a new HDD in the P750?

I realise that drivers may be different but if I can get the P750 running, I can then correct the drivers.

I don't want to pay $66 for discs from Toshiba, especially as other manufacturers such as Dell only charge $20.

No, you can?t.
The recovery image is an package.
It contains Windows system but also the drivers and tools.
This means that you would install the Qosmio drivers on Satellite P and this would make some troubles.

But I had no problem with this at the time, and used the recovery partition(after saving to a disk) for ubuntu so I could have a dual boot.

But now I've came to realise that the games I'm downloading are taking more and more room up on my C drive. The problem I have is that I can shrink my recovery partition and enlarge the C drive.

Does anyone know a work around?

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-225: Shrinking recovery partition englarge C partition

You will need an 3rd party software to shrink the recovery partition and to add the free space the existing C partition.
I would recommend you an freeware tool called Gparted

But before you would start doing this, create a recovery disk!
This is advisable in case you would try to set the notebook back to factory settings using such disk.

In your case I would try different medias. I made good experience with Verbatim DVD-R.

Dear All,

My colleague mistakenly deleted all the file from the Windows 7 recovery drive, drive is still there and nothing have been copied in that drive after deleting the recovery files. Machine is HP Probook 4530s. Is there any way to restore the windows 7 recovery reset the system to its factory settings?

Thanks in advance

Regards

Answer:Recover Deleted Windows 7 Recovery Files from Recovery Drive

You might be able to use a free recovery tool like Recuva or MiniTool Partition Wizard. But there are no guarantees that all deleted files will be recovered or that they will be in a usable condition.

Recuva - Undelete, Unerase, File and Disk Recovery - Free Download

MiniTool Partition Recovery

It may be safer to contact HP support and buy a set of recovery disks for your particular machine. I'm taking a guess that you are in India?

Hello,
I'm a mainframe person with some windows experience, but I am an Ubuntu/Linux virgin.

I was aked by a relative to see if I could sort out a Toshiba NB100 11R with Ubuntu remix loaded. The touchpad was no longer working.

I assumed it was a driver problem, so found my way to the drivers. I couldn't get any further, it was password protected. The relatives didn't know the password or even that a password had been set.

As they had the recovery disk and I had an external dvd drive, I decided to do a full recovery.
The recovery failed.

When I tried to boot the NB100, I got a GRUB error 2.

I tried the recover disk again, this time I got error 20107, I can't find this documented anywhere.

I also managed to get a boot menu at one point, which gave me the option of booting Ubuntu, or recovering. I chose the recover option, this failed with "cannot open root device SDA2 or unknown block".

I downloaded Ubuntu 10.04 netbook edition and tried to boot the NB100, this failed with a multitude of read errors.

I re-booted with the Ubuntu 10.04 netbook, this time it worked. I chose the try Ubuntu option. Ubuntu loaded.

So that's where I am at the moment, I've managed to load Ubuntu running from the DVD drive. The NB100 hard drive seems to be ok. The touch pad is working. I can't recover from the dvd drive or the boot recovery option.

As I said I'm an Ubuntu virgin, I don't know what to do from here.

What I want to do is recover to factory cond... Read more

Answer:Unable to recover NB100 from recovery cd or boot recovery option.

Well.. It seems the recovery files related to Ubuntu in the "FileSystem" are damaged. And the GRUB loader is severely damaged as well. Error 20107 means that the recovery can no longer be initiated. That error happened to me before but when I tried to recover my database on MySQL. I don't know how is this related.

Anyway, since you can access the partitions from the Live CD, If I were you, you can get an External Hard Disk and backup all the data onto that Drive. And Install a new version of the Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.04 that you've downloaded . You can Install it from the Favorites when you boot from the DVD by "Install Ubuntu Netbook Edition". When it comes to partitioning, Choose the option to Erase all the Hard disk. That will install a new system with new GRUB loader as well but Erasing all the data on the netbook hard drive. From this point you can start the recovery from the Recovery Disc. I know this is a long solution. But to be sure if the problem is from the recovery CD or the system itself.

But one question, Does your NB100 come with an Ubuntu Recovery Disk ? Toshiba notebooks always have problems with Linux Based OSes :S

If you need more help, I am here. I worked with Linux systems for about 2 years but not as much as Windows ofc.

Hey guys!

For one reason and another I'm considering ordering a Toshiba C660 recovery disk' (Mainly because I would like to sell this laptop and a clean install of Windows 7 is more appealing and secure) but before I go ahead and buy the disk from Toshiba, I presume I will have to enter the windows 7 product key printed on the bottom of my laptop?

The only real problem with this is the key has faded quite badly (Being on the bottom it's seen some use..) and I can't quite make out the last few numbers on the sticker

Is there a way I can get a new key? Or get around entering the key on the new install of windows?

For those interested, a photo of the sticker is below, maybe someone with better eyesight could help?

<Image removed to avoid piracy - ETAF Moderator>

Answer:Toshiba C660 Recovery Disk - Few Questions

I removed the image, because if anyone can read the key - they can use it and put on the internet for anyone to use

Use this program and you will get the key
https://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/

you can also use Belarc - System Management For The Internet Age. Software license management, IT asset management, IT security audits and more.
to get the key

Also goto the toshiba site and download all the drivers for the PC and put them on a Disk - that will make it easy to re-install any drivers if needed.

Also you could probably make the recovery DVD your self - if the PC has a recovery partition
You should have a recovery manager to create the media

have a look at
Control Panel
Administrative Tools
Computer Manager
Disk Manager

should see if there is a partition called recovery

Hi there,

I have a Satelite C660-225 and want to restore it to it's original settings using the zero button. The recovery starts but then the laptop says it can't find the restore files. But they are on the C drive and I made a copy to the D drive.

I don't have a recoverydisk. What can I do now?

Thank you in advance,
Plankie

Answer:Re: Satelite C660-225 can't find recovery files

Generally speaking recovery image is originaly saved on partition D and on some machines on hidden recovery partition but definitely not on partition C.

You cannot ?move? recovery files from one place to another end expect that everything works well.

In your case HDD recovery image installation will not work anymore.
What you can do now is to try to create recovery media following method described on http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD4103KB0000R01.htm

You will be really lucky if this will work. If not you can order original recovery image on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

Good luck

Hello all,

Yesterday all of a sudden, the laptop screen went blank. Upon turning it on several times, the screen still doesn't turn on. By connecting the monitor to a external monitor via VGA (my TV), the TV does show up the screen, but has several flickering horizontal lines showing, thus obscuring part of the screen (http://i.imgur.com/83RO8xg.jpg - ignore the windows behind, I was testing the sound - and it works).

I have tried several solutions on the web (like removing the battery and AC cable and pressing the power button, and interchanging the RAM card in the slots), and not surprisingly, nothing worked as I think my problem is not similar. Windows 10 just boots to a blue screen with a sad face and a QR code (I don't even know...), while Linux Mint does boot and gives a message of "running without hardware acceleration". I couldn't get any diagnosis on Linux to check if it's a problem on the graphic card or the motherboard, so I am turning to these forums to check if anyone had any similar problem.

Thank you.

Hi!

My model is Satellite C660-1LD .
I want to add 4 GB RAM to my laptop.

There is now 4GB RAM DDR3 *(1066MHZ)* on my laptop.
Can I add, or is it better to add 4GB RAM DDR3 to the second slot with *(1333MHZ)*?

And what frequency my computer will work? (1066mhz or 1333mhz).
What better RAM to add( brand, frequency) you think?

Also the RAM I found is Unbuffered, what it means?

Thank you!

Answer:Satellite C660-1LD - I want to add 4 GB RAM

> Can I add, or is it better to add 4GB RAM DDR3 to the second slot with *(1333MHZ)*?
This depends on your chipset.
If your chipset supports 1333Mhz then the RAM will work with full performance, otherwise it would be clocked down to 1066Mhz.

I have the very annoying problem of key lag on my laptop which is a satellite C660 1-f-1 .

I've had the laptop for around 3 months and have tried the keyboard settings on all settings to no avail. I paid ?350 for this laptop and I'm getting increasingly aggravated !

I've read that the problem has cropped up with other models and that removing and then replacing the battery helps.. but I can't keep doing that mid conversation or e-mail !

I keep reading about these update download bios but have no idea what that means . Could somebody please explain in a plain English non-tech speak style please ?? !!

Answer:Key lag on Satellite C660-1F1

Hi Helenuk1963

A BIOS update is something that makes the main brain of the laptop smarter but this does not 100% mean it will fix it the normal fix is to run a recovery of the unit via the HDD by pressing F8 non stop on startup and selecting repair your computer then login and select Toshiba HDD recovery but before you do this make sure you have backed up all your data and created recovery disks via the toshiba recovery media creator in the start menu.

if you do want to run a BIOS update best thing to do is call Toshiba direct who can walk you though it and at least if something goes wrong it will be covered.

Question: Satellite C660

My brother has a Satellite C660-1H6 laptop. Unfortunately his HDD went bad.
I installed a new HDD and reinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium, which was originally installed on the laptop.
Setup accepted his product key and installation went relatively smooth, only problem is that after installing the drivers, I cannot connect to wireless network.
Laptop uses an Atheros wireless card, model AR9285.
Things I tried, following forum suggestions:
-Allocate a MAC address instead of "Not present" to the wireless adapter.
-Changing various drivers, including the one from Toshiba page and some from the Atheros page.
-I installed ALL the drivers, I don't have any unknown device or exclamation mark in device manager
-Installed ConfigFree, Flash cards support utility, Value Added Package, Wireless LAN indicator (some users select that some of these are needed)
-I ran Windows troubleshooter
-I did a factory default reset in BIOS
-Although I did not change the antennas before, I also tested the wireless with the 2 antenna connectors replaced the other way on the wireless card.

Fn+F8 works, I can enable/disable the wireless. I can see a list of available networks, including mine. When is try to connect, it asks for password. My router is using WPA2-PSK authentication and AES encryption. I type the password, it tries to connect, but I get the following error message:
"Windows was unable to connect to XXX" (I replaced the SSID of my network with XXX)

Hello people,

My laptop Toshiba Satellite *c660-1uj* won't start up.

It does nothing when I press the powerbutton.
When I plug in the poweradapter I hear a clicking sound this is with or without the battery and I also see the battery light(led) flashing green.

I think it got something to do with my motherboard but i'm not sure.

I would like to be sure before I buy a new one.
Does anyone know where the problem comes from and how to fix it?

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Sjoerd

Answer:My Satellite C660-1UJ won't start up

> I think it got something to do with my motherboard but i'm not sure.
Yes, I think this problem could be related to motherboard problems.
But this would be the worst case since new motherboard is very expensive part? I gues warranty isn't valid?

But why you don?t test the memory modules? Faulty RAM can prevent the notebook from booting and powering ON. RAM module replacement is not very difficult.

Of course you would need to purchase new modules just for the check? but maybe you could visit some notebook/computer technicians? downtown who could test the unit with new RAM modules.
In such case you would not need to purchase the parts just for testing purposes.

Hey guys,

Thanks a lot for taking a look at my post.
I have Satellite C660-108. I'm thinking of upgrading ram from 3 GB up to 8 GB.
I will be very grateful if someone could answer my questions before I make a purchase.

This is a Ram model. I'm thinking of buying.

Kingston HyperX Plug in and Play DDR3 1600MHz CL9 8GB SODIMM Memory Module

I wonder if it would fit to my laptop ?

Also I found this on C660-108

Type : Intel? Graphics Media Accelerator HD
memory amount : up to 1,273 MB shared memory with 3 GB system memory installed, and up to 1,696 MB with 4 GB system memory, (with pre-installed 64-bit operating system)
memory type : shared .

If I upgrade ram up to 8 GB would it mean that my graphics system memory will be up to 3,392 MB as well ?

Thank you so much.

Kit

Answer:RAM upgrade up to 8GB on Satellite C660-180

According to Toshiba notebook spec page, the 8GB RAM (2 x 4GB) are definitely possible.
Kingston is a good RAM manufacturer and provide good quality modules.

The RAM modules should support following sepcs:
DDR3 1066MHz (PC3-8500)

The CPU PENTIUM P6100 (2.00GHZ) supports an 1.066MHZ FSB and therefore the PC3-8500 should run at full speed 1066MHz

> f I upgrade ram up to 8 GB would it mean that my graphics system memory will be up to 3,392 MB as well ?
More RAM means a bigger part can be shared with the GPU but this is controlled by graphic card driver automatically.

Good day!

my concern is about my Toshiba laptop I bought it 2 months ago in Europe when I reach in Philippines my son keep on playing it suddenly it was turn off and it didn't open anymore.

I go immediately to Toshiba centre at Cagayan de oro city and I found out that it was the keyboard problem but they could not replace it because there are no available keyboards suited for that laptop. How can I fix it?

Model name: TOSHIBA SATELLITE C660-1DG.

Thanks

Answer:Need new keyboard for Satellite C660-1DG

At first I must say that biggest problem for you is that warranty cannot cover keyboard replacement and you must pay keyboard exchange alone. Notebooks from EMEA (Europe ? Middle East ? Nord Africa) countries have EMEA warranty only so warranty is, unfortunately, not valid.

To be honest I don?t understand why the keyboard must be exchanged if the notebook doesn't start properly.

Anyway, this notebook model has keyboard used on many models so to find new one should not be problem. Best way to order new keyboard is eBay. In last 3 years I?ve ordered several keyboards over eBay. You will not believe me but all of them I ordered from China.

Hi, my laptop, Toshiba Satellite C660-1RR, is experiencing terrible problems. First, the blue screen (BSOD) will appear, and then, the laptop either shuts down or restarts again and again. Then upon shutting down, it only opens after hours later. When it is switched on, it doesn't last for even 5 minutes.

All the drivers have been installed and re-installed but the same problem still exist.

Please help.

Answer:BSOD on Satellite C660-1RR

Hi

There are different reasons for BSOD errors.
The BSOD could appear due to serious software problems or hardware malfunction.

You can check easily if its software or hardware related problem.
Take your Toshiba Recovery disk and set the notebook back to factory settings.
In case this will not solve the BSOD problem, the issue is caused definitely by hardware problems.

Did you notice a higher internal temp?
I had a similar problem with my 6 year old notebook. Because of the dust, the internal memory modules could not be cooled down and this caused BSOD.
I had cleaned the cooling fans and removed the dust using compressed air spray.

This solved by BSOD problem for a while?
