Satellite C650 - Cannot find recovery discs to perform full recovery

Question: Satellite C650 - Cannot find recovery discs to perform full recovery

Had to use Recovery disc recently only to discover, too late, that I had lost the two media creator discs to completer the reboot.

Can't find them on the basic home page - help!

Preferred Solution: Satellite C650 - Cannot find recovery discs to perform full recovery

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite C650 - Cannot find recovery discs to perform full recovery

Recovery disk cannot be downloaded.
You can order it for a small fee.

Hello, I've used the recovery media creator to create a USB flash drive recovery media.

If i then use that to restore the Windows 7 installation onto a new hard drive (as SSD) will that drive itself have the recovery media partition on it?

So if I then lose the USB stick could I restore again by holding down zero when powering on?

Or does it recover the Windows partition and nothing more?

Thank you

Hi Guys!

I am new to this forum and not very tech savvy so please bear with me! My mums laptop, an esystem 1201, has been getting slower and slower and slower until today it finally gave in. This stemmed from a virus that we got a couple of weeks back, that i got rid of but for some reason its slowed down ever since.
Anyway, we decided today to insert the "backup1" disc into the computer, to do a full system recovery. These were the discs that the "Tech guys" software asks you to create the first time you use the computer, for any such things such as this and the discs were created without any issues at the time. I Put the disc in, came up with all the menus, selected "full destructive recovery" and it ticked away, asked me to take out disc one, put in disc two, then asked me to take disc two out and put disc one in. Did all that, then i get the error message "Error: Recovery image missing Please restart and try again". This happens around stage 3 of 5, which is the "Installing vista" stage.
Can anyone give me any advice on what to do? I tried a couple of suggestions I found on the internet, which included creating another disc but that didn't work. It makes it look as though you are installing vista for the first time, and when I click on "repair" as suggested on the site (Because the disc is not a first time installation disc) it is supposed to find the back up from the CD. Instead, I get a message that says... Read more

Hey All, Just joined the group and have found many good things here. OK here goes, I have a HP Pavillion dv6500t laptop,Intel DUO [email protected], Vista Home Premium 32b I had a bad recovery partition and tried my recovery discs that I made and they said they would not work so I ordered a new disc from HP. Ran the disc and got all the way through and then came up with recovery has failed, details or retry. Well in the details it says sku and region mismatch. Also in the report there is a TimeoutCheck ,Result = failed. I have gotten 3 discs from HP, all free but none work. One seemed to have worked but in the end I screwed that installation up. 3 lashes for my stupidity. I have read many Google posts but most were from '07-'08 when bad discs were the norm. SO I followed one of the suggestions and stopped FBI in startup after most of the disc loads and have most of the system working. Got all MS updates and updated all the drivers in device manager. SO now I have a partial install with no recovery drive. I have checked the HD and memory= pass. Checked Bios and good. I cannot get the set up where you select a languge, time, all the front end settings to come up. I have even partioned the HD for C: to 103.5G and D: to 8.50G which is empty since there is no recovery. I believe the Boot manager is either missing or bad. Got one message saying it is missing and compressed. Also when the recovery disc runs it assigns D: to CD drive and C: to main partition. I am wondering if since it make... Read more

Hi, hope I can be helped here,

I have a satellite C650-166, it ran out of battery while doing a standard windows update, now it wont re boot. I don't mind resting the laptop to factory settings, as I was planning to do so anyway.

I've followed the on screen instructions to launch startup repair, but whenever I do this it loads its files then goes to a black screen with just the cursor.

I've tried the, hold 0 way to repair and I just get the same every time, I hit the 'repair your computer' then it doesn't make it to the system recovery options...

I am using an external monitor, but I cant see this being the problem as I wouldn't be able to see the cursor.. surely?

Any help is much appreciated and thanks in advance

I'm an happy user of Toshiba labtop but i actualy have a problem with Windows 7 restorationon my Satellite C650-17N.
WhenI bougth my computer I had made my revory DVD but I didn't test the recovery process.
Today my hard driver crashed and I tried to launch the recovery process with the DVD but It block a little time after the begining.
In the dos mode, the system tried to copy 'warn HTML' from the DVD but the file doesn't exist.
So I tried to download the recovery from the website of Toshiba but it's impossible because my labtop model is to old.....

Has anyone got a solution ?

Answer:Need Recovery dvd but Satellite C650-17N is too old

I have an old satellite C650 (This is what the Toshiba website says....) and I have a problem with Windows 7 restoration. My hard drive crashed and when I receved the new one I tried to restore Windows 7 with the recovery DVD but It didn't work. At the beginning of the Install the directory copy fails at the 'warn html' copy. If I read the DVD on another computer this directory doesn't exist. But during the install windows try to copy this folder and ask me to 'insert the DVD recovery'..... the install can't continue.....
Has anyone the same problem ?

I have a Toshiba Satellite C650-110, that seems to be running a bit slow, and some of the Toshiba programs do seem to respond, so i feel its time to restore my laptop back to the factory settings and start again.
Can anyone tell me how I can restore this, I've recently been sent a recovery disk from Toshiba, im a bit surprised as was only sent one DVD and ive had a go but doesn't seem to work.

Do you think a incorrect disk has been sent.. or is it just me being silly and cant do it right?

The only reason i was thinking this, is usually the recovery disk is normally on 2 dvd discs... or loads of cd's.... Its my mistake should of done my recovery disk in the first place.
Many thanks

Answer:Satellite C650-110 - Recovery confusion

Claire I think Toshiba knows what they do and you should not be worried about it.
Try to install OS using this disc.

Start your notebook and press F12 to enter BOOT menu.
Put recovery disc in optical disc drive.
In menu list choose CD/DVD device and press ENTER.
Follow the menu on the screen.

That?s all you must do.

If the HDD recovery does not work, then you have to use the Recovery disk.
But it seems that recovery disk has not be created in the past? right?

Well, in such case you can order the disk here:

I am trying to fix a friends computer, he has formatted and deleted all the partitions on the hard drive and tried to install Windows 7 but keeps getting the message that the install cannot take place???

The error message on trying to install is as follows: "windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computers hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disks controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu"

It then says the following: ?windows cannot be installed to this disk. The disk may fail soon"

I know for a fact that the hard disk is fine!!

I have a Satellite C650 with a hard drive failure. I am unable to see the hard drive in the BIOS or using an external enclosure and viewing under Windows. Putting a new hard drive in isn't a problem but I need a Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit OEM disc to restore the system.

How do I go about getting one?
I've tried a standard Windows 7 Home Premium installation disc but it doesn't accept the OEM code as valid when activating online.

Answer:Recovery Disc for Satellite C650

> I've tried a standard Windows 7 Home Premium installation disc but it doesn't accept the OEM code as valid when activating online.
I assume you have used the product key on bottom side of your notebook, right?
Well, this key doesn?t work with standard Microsoft disks because it?s an OEM key that belongs to preinstalled Windows 7 from Toshiba and can?t be used.

If you use a normal Microsoft disk you have to use the product key that you got with the disk!!!

Otherwise you can order a recovery disk from Toshiba but I?m wondering why you didn?t create it:

I find myself in the US with a crashed laptop after a Trojan infection (PUP-...). Malwarebytes removed it, but the computer refuses to open Windows, even in safe mode. All attempts lead to the Toshiba repair program that fails every time. I am trying to get a recovery disc for this machine. I have been trying to make recovery discs for the Toshiba Satellite laptop. I went throught the Recovery Disc Creator Wizard which informed me to have five DVD discs ready. By following the onboard instructions I completed three discs on Verbatim DVD-R 8.5 GB: Recovery Disc 1 and 2, and a 3rd Windows Recovery Environment disc. However, when I was starting the 4th disc the computer fist failed to acknowledge it and then opened the drawer requiring another disc. The disc was empty as far as I know but I went back to the shop and bought five more discs and the system also rejects these although they are identical. However, the applications disc requirement states either a 4.5 or flashmedia to be inserted to make only one disc. I think I will buy the 4.5 disc and see if it works. Does anyone have any experience of this or advice? I am bummed completely and don't want to have to buy more DVD discs as they are all new and straight out of the package.

I have a 3 year old C650 and the HDD failed. I put in a replacement disk and trie to recover from the media recovery disks I'd created and although it claimed to have re-partitioned the disk and reinstalled windows, windows startup fails when trying to configure devices 'Could not configure windows to run on this hardware'.

After this error the startup sequence goes into an endless loop requesting to start the installation procedure again.

Thinking that my disks may have been corrupt, I ordered a set of recovery disks from Toshiba. Again, these go through the recovery process and again, Windows startup fails in exactly the same place.

Slightly annoying to have spent ?30 for nothing.

I do have a Windows System Image on my external HDD, but I can't get the machine to a point where it will actually boot so I can recover from that.

Any suggestions on how to proceed welcome!

I am having to buy and install a recovery disk for my Sat Pro C650.
When I get it do i just plug in and play it. I have also lost windows 7 which was pre-installed, or would I then need to also buy a new copy of windows 7 and install that too?

Will it then just go back to how it was when we brought it.
Or do I need to do something else after the recovery disk is installed.

Answer:Satellite Pro C650: Questions regarding Recovery disk installation

Hi Tina

You have to boot from the Recovery disk in order to set the notebook back to the same state like at the first day of purchase.

The Toshiba recovery disk formats the whole HDD and installs the Windows 7, drivers, Toshiba tools and utilities automatically? so you have to boot from this disk and then you have to follow the instruction on the screen.

The windows partition got destroyed, I have a copy of the HDD recovery on an external drive, but using a windows7 disk to boot from windows does not recognise the hdd recovery as having any system information so won't restore the original windows and Toshiba utilities.

The F8 and holding O on pressing key doesnt bring up the the menu with the restore option.

Any clue as to how I can extract / use the HDD recovery that I have

Answer:Satellite C650 - can't access HDD recovery to restore Win7

Problem is that recovery image saved on external HDD cannot be used. In user?s manuals document is clearly described that notebook owner must create recovery media. This recovery media can be DVD disc or USB stick, depending on notebook model.

All you can do now is to order original recovery disc or to install own OS version using Microsoft installation disc but it is also not the best solution.

What do you think about all this? If you have more questions you are welcome.

As far as I know either it works or not and there is no some kind of “workaround”. You cannot force recovery installation to end installation.

Either is recovery image saved on USB defective or your notebook is the troublemaker, HDD maybe.

I presume you have started recovery image installation several times, right?
Does error message occur always after 41% of installation?

Hi there

My Satellite C650 got a virus. I managed to start it in safe mode and run avg. Then shut it down, restarted and now says bootmgr missing. I?ve used the recovery disc I made when purchased but it does not give me the Toshiba option to restore to factory state. I?ve tried the repair option and everything I can think of.

Any idea what to try next as obviously i don?t have a Windows 7 disc any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Answer:Satellite C650 - No factory settings option on recovery disk

Hi debs2k,

If you boot from Toshiba recovery disk what options you have exactly? Normally you can restore the out of box settings if you choose the recovery wizard.

Usually all Toshiba recovery disk have the option to restore the original settings and I can?t imagine that your disk doesn?t have such an option. So please check it again, I?m sure you have an option to restore the original settings. ;)

My Toshiba Satellite L50t-A running Windows 8 will not perform a HDD recovery.

I'm not exactly sure why my laptop decided that it needed to restart but it did and when it tried to boot back up it was stuck in the "diagnosing repairs" and "preparing automatic repair" loop.

Upon research, I found that the best way to fix it was to do a HDD recovery and set my laptop back to it's factory settings (which is fine by me if that means that it is no longer nothing but a paper weight). The only issue with this being that when I try to start a HDD repair, it will start with "please wait" and eventually find itself back in the diagnosing and preparing automatic repairs loop.

I've tried this multiple times and have let things run it's course overnight on a few occasions but nothing seems to be happening and I'd rather not mess around with it too much as I am not very familiar with computers, thus being said it'd be extremely helpful if any solutions were given in plain english (well, as close as you can get it at least) hahaha.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm trying to re-image my Satellite M70-181 using the Product Recovery DVD.
Should be easy you might say but the internal DVD drive does not work anymore.
I do not want to buy a new one for this rather old notebook, so I borrowed an external USB drive.

After I inserted the Product Recovery DVD the notebook boots from there, autoexec creates a RAMDRIVE and copies files to there.
Analyzing 'recover.bat', the external DVD drive should be accessible via drive X:. However, there are some files missing on the DVD to mount the external DVD drive: there is no file %RAMDRV%\TOOLS\USB20.DEV nor a file %RAMDRV%\TOOLS\USB11.DEV.
The attempt to mount the external drive fails, recover.bat enters a loop telling "Please insert Recovery CD-ROM #1 !".

What can I do now? Please help.

Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite M70-181 to perform Product Recovery from USB DVD drive

As far as I know this notebook model does not support booting from USB CD/DVD drive and recovery CD.
You can boot from USB FDD drive and bootable FDD but I doubt this would be possible with a Toshiba recover disk.

I think you could use this recovery disk only in connection with internal ODD.

I hope this is the right place to post this, but I think I have the same problem with my Satellite C650. It keeps wasting DVDs by stopping and saying that it cannot read file E:\ZZlmg\11544XSP.swm and gives an error code 020150-20-00000000. The file is on the DVD. I am using Verbatim DVD-R The Recovery Media Creator is trying to write the first disc and is at the point of verifying the data. Can you think of another explanation for this error other than the cheap DVD option? Thanks

Answer:Satellite C650 - Cannot create Recovery disk - error code 020150-20-00000000

There are two explanations;
Either the CD/DVD drive firmware is not up to date and does not contain any information about the used disks of the disks (CD or DVD) is not fully compatible.
As you know this happens and is not unusual.

So first of all check if an firmware update is available for your CD/DVD drive.
The Toshiba European driver page is the right place to look for that.
In more info you will find detail if the firmware has been released for your ODD.

If there is no firmware update for your CD/DVD drive, then you should test other disks?

I just had a bit of trouble installing a piece of software which, in the end I was able to sort out with a system restore. This process caused me some concern at the time as I couldn't get the software uninstalled correctly (I had to download a program from the maker to uninstall it!)

At one point I considered restoring my Satellite P100-188 notebook with the product recovery disk, the thing is I have never done this before and was wondering if someone could tell me the best sequence to do this for future reference.

I have a standard Windows Media Centre Edition OS, a product recovery disk, an Express Media Player disk and a Drivers and Tools CD which I created when I got the notebook.

I have a printout saying to restore Express Media Player before Windows, does this mean I have to insert this disk, install Express Media Player, then insert the product recovery disk to install Windows?

Does the Express Media Player disk format the drive? This isn't clear to me and I don't want to run into problems when I eventually do have to re-install my Operating System.

I've searched this forum in order to see if this information was already posted and couldn't find any relevant information, all I can find are problems with using recovery disks and missing disks.

If it has been posted before could you supply me with a link, and forgive me asking for the information again.

Answer:Satellite P100-188: How to perform the product recovery procedure?

Hello Gary

If you want to have clean preinstalled OS the best solution is to use delivered recovery media. If the Express media player works well leave it as it is and use the recovery DVD only for clean OS installation. That?s all!

Tools and Utility CD can be used if you need it to reinstall any of Toshiba designed tools or if you want to install your own OS using Microsoft installations CD. If you have more questions please post again.

Toshiba L70-B-119 Core i3 17 Inch 8GB 1TB Laptop

Answer:Satellite L70-B-119 and recovery discs

Toshiba offers notebook with preinstalled operating system but installations recovery discs are not a part of the package. Recovery image is saved on HDD and you must create bootable recovery media (DVD or USB) alone using preinstalled software.

Toshiba has designed small tool called Toshiba recovery media creator. This tool creates bootable recovery media that you can use for recovery image installation.

I cannot say for sure but I think that since 6 years Toshiba doesn't offer recovery installation disc with new products.

Does it make any differece at all? Should I contact Toshiba to get a 64bit recovery disc or is there any way I can create a recovery disc?

Answer:Satellite L500 and recovery discs

Hey Vini Cruz,

I have checked the specifications from some Satellite L500 models on the Toshiba website and it seems that some are equipped with 32bit recovery disk and the preinstalled OS is 64bit.

If you want a 64bit recovery disk you have to create it by yourself using Toshiba recovery disk creator. It creates an image of factory settings from 64bit OS that is the same as 32bit but only 64bit ;)

For further informations check also the user manual chapter 3.

Answer:Satellite U400-15B - How to use recovery discs?

The using of Toshiba recovery disk is very easy! If you have created the disk you have only to boot from the first one. Therefore go in the BIOS boot menu and select the CD/DVD drive where you have entered the disk before.

The computer will now try to boot from Toshiba recovery disk and installs factory settings back. Only few clicks are necessary and you have to wait some minutes where you can drink a coffee for example. ;)

The disk contains an image of factory settings and that means it wipes the whole HDD and creates the partitions again. All drivers and tools will be installed automatically and your computer is ready to use again!

I lost my recovery disc for my Toshiba A75-S112 laptop, with serial number 45236406K.
I am having the hardest time trying to obtain a new copy. I have contacted the authorized service centres in my area but they have been of no help, as they claim they do not and cannot have or sell the recovery discs.

Yet, they can recover my machine for me. I can recover my machine on my own, I just need the disc. I contacted Toshiba support by telephone and was given a case number to help me in my search to obtain the recovery disc, but I was not told what to do or where to go with the case number. Answer:Where to get recovery discs for Satellite A75-S112

This is very strange because every Toshiba authorized service provider should be able to order the Recovery CDs.
The notebook Satellite A75-S112 was designed for the US market.
Maybe this is a reason why the ASP cannot obtain this recovery CD for you.

Here is a link to all global Toshiba ASP

I don?t know if it?s possible but maybe you will have to contact an ASP in USA to obtain the compatible Recovery CD!

At the other hand if you have an original Microsoft Windows CD then you could install the OS from this CD and then you could download and install the Toshiba drivers from the Toshiba US page.

I'm having some issues making the Recovery Disc (see ), but as the main file burned to the discs is a 1+ GB *".exe"* one, I am starting to wonder if the discs are really expected to be bootable... after all you'd +usually+ require a windows envionment to execute such a file.

Or maybe the files required to "run" that .exe are supposed to be in the bootable part of the disc?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Are Recovery Discs bootable? - Satellite A300

I don?t know how you have burned the Recovery disk but you should use definitely the Toshiba Recovery disk creator tool.
This tool burns the Toshiba image and creates the bootable recovery disk.

And yes, the recovery disk is bootable and if you want to start the recovery procedure you have to boot from it.

I have a problem with Recovery Disc Creator. When it burns the 1st DVD disc an error occurs. It says "Unexpected error occured. Error code: 0E01B5-26-2A031000".
I have Toshiba Satellite A300-1NA.

All of the updates are installed, and generally the system is "clean". I suspect that this problem is caused by my DVD-RW drive (MAT****A UJ880AS) but I cannot find new firmware for it. Thanks in advance for any help.

Best regards

Answer:Re: Can't create recovery discs on Satellite A300-1NA

Firmware updates you can get on the Toshiba website but for your Satellite A300 with Mat****a drive I didn?t find one.

Have you tried DVD?s from different manufactures? I use always Verbatim disks and never had problems with it.
Check this!

I have a weird problem, I bought the computer 6 months ago and have been happy with it, but I got somekind of virus and all the OS was ****ed up big time, so yesterday I would da a factory install with the recovery discs I created when I purchased the computer.

I have the Toshiba System Disc and 4 recovery dvds, I insert the sytem disc and all looks like it should, it loads and then it ask for Disc One of the recovery discs, I insert Disc 1 and after 10 sec. it ejects it again and ask for Disc One again.

I have verified the 5 discs on my other computer and there is data on them and they look okay, I have tried inserting all of the discs to see if I switched them when I printed on them, nothing is working, it will simply not reconize disc one and I am stuck? Any help from anyone?

I am pretty sure its not the hardware that are bad, because I had an old XP windows disc, and after I tried all, I tried to install this on the computer and everything was fine, but I would like to have windows 7 as the computer came with....

Answer:Satellite C870-121 recovery discs is not working?

Very strange buddy?
Could it be possible that the CD/DVD drive cannot read the first disk properly?
I mean it could be a disk issue and not the issue with the data

I?m not sure what?s wrong here but you have no many options here:
To recover the notebook, you have to use the Toshiba Recovery disks or the HDD recovery?
Can you use the HDD recover procedure?
Power up the unit, press F8, choose Repair my Computer -> HDD recovery.

If this is not possible ? well?. You could still order a new disk here:

Hi all

I have a Toshiba L500 -128, the original 320gb hard drive is simply too small and i would like to avoid buying an external hard drive (for any other purpose than backing up) because in my experience they are just rubbish and i want all my data on the laptop.

I wanted to buy a new 1 (possibly 2) tb hard drive to put in it, which i assume it is equipped to deal with, (please anyone correct me if they know otherwise) along with another 4GB ram....

Anyway what i'm really wondering is whether or not i can get away with using my recovery discs on the new hard drive.
If they did it the old fashioned way (sending a OS disc and a drivers disc) i wouldn't even question it but as i created the discs from the computer itself, i wasn't too sure as when i opened the discs up to make sure everything had burnt on to them ok, i didn't see anything like what i was expecting to.

Also i read somewhere that someone else tried this and it didn't work, they assumed because the recovery included an image specifically to fit the original sized Hard drive?

Can anyone shed some light at all please?

Answer:Satellite L500 -128 Using recovery discs on new (bigger) HDD

First of all you should create the Toshiba Recovery disk using the preinstalled tool called Toshiba Recovery disk creator.
Usually you should receive an confirmation message that the recovery has been created successfully.
This would mean that you could use this disk to set the notebook back to factory settings not matter what HDD is in use.
This means that Recovery disk should work with other HDDs.

But note; the usage of such recovery disk would format the HDD and delete everything from HDD partitions. But this should not bother you if you use new, empty HDD ;)

So i wanted to reinstall my Notebook and put in the first cd and booted from CD. So i came into the Menu.
Then after a while it asked me to put in the second CD and I did it. Then it said there was a error copying the last 2 files needed.
So now i cant create the Recovery Disk again because I already started the reinstalling. now i have a few questions

What can i do generally ? Because I really dont want to buy for 35 euros a new Recovery Disk :S

I thank everyone who helps me :D

If you want to have ?factory settings? you must install recovery image from recovery disc.
If your discs don?t work you must use original Toshiba recovery disc.

My opinion is that you should install Win7 32bit on this machine. I do it on friends A350 and it runs perfectly.

I have found my recovery disk but am concerned as it says 1/2 on it which implies its the first of 2 disks.
Is this the case?

I have the Tools and Utilities disk, is that considered disk 2?
Is there a way of getting past disk 2 or downloading it if it is the case that I dont have it?
Thanks to all who help

Answer:Need info about delivered recovery discs for Satellite Pro M35

As far as I know older Toshiba notebooks were delivered with the Toshiba recovery CD and with the Tools & Utilities CD.
Because of the large image size the image was installed on 2 Recovery CD?s
All CD?s are labeled and it should be easy to recognize the right CD!

It seems you have lost the first part of the Recovery CD?s and therefore I would recommend contacting the Toshiba authorized service partner in your country and to order the first Recovery CD!
It?s should be not expensive ;)

I've been trying to recover Satellite C670D-11K using new Toshiba-supplied factory system recovery discs. Both discs do their thing until the very end when I get these messages:

Error c/program files\mcafee\virusscan/dat\000.0\ (error=1117)
Error restoring image
request could not be performed beacuse of I/O device error
Error Image x could not apply win 7 V:\\HDDRecovery\SWIMG\15434XSP.SWM Index 2 from HDD to C

Only option after this point is to press any key and I get the blank Toshiba screen

When I switch laptop back on I get message 'boot mgr is missing'. I have tried the recovery disc a couple of times since and things don't get any better. In fact I just get a big black screen with cursor after

Suggestions welcomed please? I thought buying the recovery discs would be a simple solution but should I give in and go to a professional now?

Answer:Satellite C670D-11K - Toshiba recovery discs is not working

I presume you use recovery discs that you have created using Toshiba recovery disc creator tool, right?
It sounds stupid now but something went wrong and I?m afraid recovery discs are useless now. Fact is that you cannot change anything or force notebook to install recovery image properly.

Only thing that you can test is -
I don't think this will help but you can test it anyway.

Now you have two options:
-to order original recovery disc from Toshiba
-to install own OS version using Microsoft installation disc

I have a Satellite P750 with a fatally damaged HDD and no recovery discs. I have a Qosmio X770 that I can make recovery discs from.

Both machines were running Windows 7 and both have licence codes. Can I use recovery discs from the Qosmio to load onto a new HDD in the P750?

I realise that drivers may be different but if I can get the P750 running, I can then correct the drivers.

I don't want to pay $66 for discs from Toshiba, especially as other manufacturers such as Dell only charge $20.

Answer:Can I use recovery discs from Qosmio to recover Satellite P750?

No, you can?t.
The recovery image is an package.
It contains Windows system but also the drivers and tools.
This means that you would install the Qosmio drivers on Satellite P and this would make some troubles.

I bought a Satellite A200-QH0 model in Australia and due to lack of forums in our country I'd like to ask some questions here if that's ok.

The notebook contains 3 partitions - a 1.6GB "EISA Configuration" partition, the large OS partition, and the recovery partition. So I've made the recovery DVD???s using the Recovery Disc Creator tool as we aren't supplied with an actual disc. But I would like to know what these discs will do? My questions:

1. Will they truly return the hard drive back to _exactly_ how it was including the partition layout and pre-installed software?
2. Will the recovery DVDs work even if the drive has been repartioned? I would like to split the system partition to give space for data files etc. But will this extra partition stop the recovery procedure working properly?

Please understand that I'm not interested in reformatting the entire drive. I just want to split the OS partition. But in case I have to replace the drive in the future or something I'd like to know how close to "original" these discs will get me, no matter what I do to the drive?

Answer:Questions about recovery discs and partitioning Satellite A200-QH0

I?m not 100% sure how the recovery works on the Toshiba Australian notebooks but I presume the Recovery CD contains the Toshiba image with the Windows OS, drivers, tools and utilities.
I think if you would use the Recovery CD then the whole HDD will be formatted and all partitions will be erased.

I think the recovery partition will be not created using the recovery CD because the recovery CD was already created? so the recovery partition is not necessary anymore?

I've just purchased the above laptop and tried to create the recovery discs twice.
Both times this failed on the first DVD with the following error message:
Differences were found between the following files
Source Path D:\HDDRecovery\ODDFiles\sources\boot.wim
Target Path E:\sources\boot.wim
error code 0216F-3C-00000000

I have found one similar post on a Google search which suggests that there is nothing I can do about this except contact Tohiba and get the recovery media free as the drive is corrupt.
I certainly am not willing to pay for these discs since it's not my fault that I can't create them.

Is there anything I can do and what advice can be given regarding replacement recovery discs?

Answer:Satellite L450D- failure to create recovery discs

In my opinion there are two options for you:
-contact your local dealer where you bought your notebook and ask for replacement or
-contact nearest Toshiba authorized service provider and explain the situation.

I can imagine they can order a copy for you and it will be covered by warranty.
Do not wait to long and do it as soon as possible.

What you can do is to install own OS version and install all necessary drivers, tools and utilities hat you can find on US download page.

Just bought a brand new lenovo Z570 laptop, decided to create factory default recovery DVDs using onekey recovery 7.0 software which was preinstalled on the machine. I prepared the blank DVDs and started the backup, all went well with the first DVD till a message popped up telling me to insert the next blank DVD to continue the backup process and that's when the problem started. Each time I insert a blank DVD it seems like the software can't recognize it, the message asking for a blank DVD pops up again and the blank DVD gets ejected. First I thought it was a faulty blank dvd but after trying about 8 of them it's still not working. I canceled the process and started all over and again the same thing happened, the first dvd is created and then the program refuses to recognize the other blank dvds and ejects them. Was wondering if anyone else got that problem and if there's anyway to fix it. I want to create the recovery DVDs before starting to work on the new machine. Any help would be very appreciated.

Answer:Problem creating recovery discs using onekey recovery on Z570

Hi som3a14 and welcome to the community,
Yeh, the same thing happened to me on a u160.  I used Memorex DVRs with a Memorex burner and it would just spit out the second disc. Or, it would burn 2 okay and then spit out the third one.
I ended up using the Memorex DVDs and a crappy Staples burner. That worked.  It took three tries and I made six coasters.  Make sure you're using DV-R discs and don't be too quick to click ok when you put the second and third discs in. I used 4.7Gb discs also.
Mine made three, but  I've heard of it only making two.  When they're made, test them.

My computer has many corrupt files. I have done both sfc /scannow and chkdsk /r multiple times, but the corrupt files still remain. Unfortunately, my HP's recovery manager is also corrupt so I decided to do a full factory restore. Because I couldn't do a full factory restore from the computer, I ordered the discs from HP.
When ever I try to do a recovery from the boot menu (F8 or F11), I get the following error:

"Boot Manager:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware of software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

1.Insert your Windows installation disc and restart the computer.
2.Choose your language settings, and then click "Next".
3.Click "Repair your computer."

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

Status: 0xc000000f

Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible."

I insert the disc, but nothing happens. The computer returns to the same steps. I even tried going through control panel and Full System Restore. Again, I get the same steps. When I press enter, it allows me to boot Windows 7 or do a memory diagnostic test.

I appreciate any help.

Today I was investigating something in ThinkVantage Rescue & Recovery since one of my attempts to create a set of recovery discs had gone wrong - I created a Rescue Disc (boot disk) instead of a set of Recovery Disks. Basically, what I discovered is that according to this IBM page I am supposed to see two options when clicking "Create Recovery Media" in the ThinkVantage start menu group: (1) Rescue Media and (2) Recovery Discs. In the event that a set of Recovery Discs (option 2) has already been created, this option will become gray and can't be selected, however it will still be visible, displaying the text that you've already created a set of Recovery Discs and that your license doesn't allow you to make any more. The strange thing here is that I don't at all have option 2: Recovery Discs, whether active or inactive (gray)! Please find attached the three relevant screenshots: the last one is of my computer (and is in Dutch but shows you that I have only option 1 to select), the bottom two are from the link I provided above and show the distinction between having option 2 active or inactive (gray text). Does anyone know what is going on here? The Toshiba recovery disk creator can only create the Toshiba recovery disk and that?s all!

If you want to burn other CDs or DVDs you have to use another program like Nero or CD Burner XP. The last one is freeware and really nice. It has a lot of functions and is very small. Check this!!

Hi all

Just a query
My GF turned on her laptop Satellite C660 series and it would not boot up, we tried to initiate the recovery sequence from the recovery partition but kept getting the error that was on boot up (the error was telling us a USB device had been unplugged).

As you probably guessed she never made the back-up discs when prompted, all I could think of was using a win 7 disc and reload that way then try and make the recovery discs after (I didn't activate)
so win 7 was installed nicely and all drivers sourced that was all last week.
Now for the crunch , the recovery partition is there can I now make the recovery discs and install from those , the win 7 I installed will soon require activation
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite C660 - recovery partition is there but can I make back up discs?

After own OS installation you cannot create recovery disc anymore and you can not install recovery image using HDD recovery option (F8 at start-up).

Best thing you can do now is to order original disc from Toshiba and use it for recovery image installation. It is definitely easiest way to have ?factory settings? again.
You can order it on

Ok so I'm trying to reset my Toshiba Satellite L655-16E back to factory settings after it started to give me the low memory error message, but I only have the discs it asked me to make when I first got the laptop, so when I do the whole F8 thing on start up and get to the screen with the Toshiba HDD recovery reset thing and click on it, it gives me this error message:

The Recovery of the operating System is impossible!
Could not find HDD Recovery folder on second drive of the first hard disk.
There is no valid HDD Recovery environment on this computer.

I've tried various different things; Pressing and holding 0 - Which gave me a screen asking which os I wanted to use (there was only Windows 7) then just continued to load as normal. Putting the first disc in and restarting my laptop (which I did pretty much every time anyway) - which did nothing. etc.
So yeah, is there a way of creating the mystery HDD file I need from the discs, or maybe another way of using the discs that I haven't already tried?

Answer:Satellite L655-16E - Factory reset using Recovery Media Discs

>Could not find HDD Recovery folder on second drive of the first hard disk.
>There is no valid HDD Recovery environment on this computer.
This message will be shown if you have deleted recovery image or changed partitions structure on HDD.

If you have created recovery disc or discs than you can install recovery image using these recovery DVDs.

Start your notebook and pres F12 several times to enter boot menu.
Put recovery disc in optical disc drive.
In the menu choose CD/DVD drive.
Press ENTER.
Follow the menu on the screen.

Answer:Satellite U205-S5034 - Error when trying to create the recovery discs

What kind of DVDs you are using for creating a Toshiba recovery disc? As yet I have tried Verbatim DVD-R and TDK DVD-R and never had a problem with these discs. Friend of tried DVD+R and he couldn?t create a recovery disc. After that he tried DVD-R and all was fine but I don?t know why this happened.
So please try other discs.

Furthermore check the Toshiba page for a firmware update of CD/DVD drive. Maybe it will help you.

I have a toshiba Satellite C650 that has recently come up with a disk read error. I want to access the command prompt to try some potential solutions that I have read about on the internet.

I have made a Windows 7 recovery disk using my other acer laptop which also has Windows 7 64-bit installed. When I use the recovery disk and it has loaded the files etc it just brings up a black screen and the cursor.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening?
I tried booting my acer laptop from the recovery disk and it worked fine.

Also does anyone have any suggestions as to why I am getting the 'disk read error - hit ctrl, alt and delete to restart' message?

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Answer:Satellite C650 - Disk read error and recovery disk is not working

On this virtual way it is not easy to offer exact diagnostic but obviously there must be some problem with HDD. Can you obtain second one for testing purposes and exchange it. Just to be sure if HDD is ?troublemaker?.

But there is one another thing:
>I have made a Windows 7 recovery disk using my other acer laptop....
Sorry but I don?t understand this. Can you please explain to us what have you done exactly?

I'm running WinXP. My pc tells me that I already made a set of recovery discs, but I have no recollection of doing it. On many, many forums, I've found the recommendation of deleting the HPCD.sys files = problem solved. Only on *MY* pc [HP tower, btw], I get an error message of "recovery partition not found" when I delete just one of the HPCD.sys files and then try to run the cd recovery making tool.

Is there a way around this? If not, if I do a complete recovery -- back to factory settings -- will my ability to burn a set of recovery discs be restored?

I have a Satellite L300D-12I laptop & keep getting a 'power calibration error' when trying to create the Toshiba recovery discs. Does anybody have any ideas how to get over this?

Answer:Satellite L300D-12I: Power calibration error whilst creating Recovery Discs

I have seen this problem on my previous laptop.

It can be caused by:

* Bad quality CD/DVD media. Use good quality brands such as TDK.
* Burning too fast, lower the burn speed.
* Worn laser, replace the DVD drive.

Whenever I try to create a full backup, the backup always seems to be complete after turning on the laptop monitor (not even from sleep mode, just the display turning off), even when the program said that there were two hours to go.  The backup, which was estimated to be about 75gb, turns out to be only 20gb.  When I try to create recovery discs from this seemingly incomplete backup, it always says that it requires five recovery discs.  Is this the number of recovery discs regardless of the size of the backup, and will the recovery discs restore the laptop to factory condition or the state of the laptop when the backup was made?  Sorry if this is an obvious question, but can the recovery discs created using Onekey Recovery be used to restore the system back to Vista if I install Windows 7 (RC or final version), assuming that the partitions sizes remain untouched?  Will I be able to restore to Vista from Windows 7 using this full backup (on an external drive) if I press the NOVO button after installing W7? Similar to the backup being complete after turning on after sleep mode or the display turning on, whenever I download anything off the internet and the laptop goes to sleep mode, the download is cut off after turning the laptop on from sleep mode.  Isn't the system not supposed to go to sleep whenever something is downloading or a backup is being performed?  Thanks for your help!Message Edited by blackhole23 on 07-21-2009 11:46 AM... I couldn't find similar thread so I'm postin this as new. I bought T400 with Vista BU 32bit. I didn't know that It's strongly sugested to create my own recovery discs. T400 was shipped with XP recovery discs. Problem is, that I wanted to try XP, put DVDs in the notebook and after few reboots I discevered, that I have only C partition (system) and hidden partition, that I'm not able to even assign a drive letter. No recovery partition, no preload partition. I'm now on Win 7 RC 64 and soon I want to recreate recovery partition, but without my own recovery discs I dont know how. There is one solution, but I dont know if it's possible option. My friend has T500 and I told him to create recovery DVD before he did any change to partitions. From hareware side, our notebooks are almost simillar (just differend discrete VGA and CardReader).1. So do you think, that I can use his recovery DVDs to restore mine T400 to factory state and than create my own recovery DVDs?2. Why XP DVDs shipped with NB created just hidden partition (which I can't acces and I dont know how to install OS from it without working R&R partition)?3. Last question, but not important one: System came with 32bit BU system, do I have an option to reinstall it somehow to 64bit BU on the same licence number (I mean legally) because System has 4gigs of RAM. Thanks

Answer:Recovery partition not created by Recovery Discs

UP please respond, because I want soon reinstall Win 7 RC and I need to know what options i have. Thanks

Hi everyone, I've just recently became a new owner of a T61, and really enjoying it. I haven't had a chance yet to test-drive the lenovo phone support, as I have not yet screwed anything up that bad that required their help. I did try a clean factory reinstall from the service partition and it worked great. I would like to find out, how does one use the rescue and recovery startup disc, and the product recovery discs that I created myself? From my previous experience with Dell and HP, I only had to insert the first one and restart the computer, and the rest followed. But with ThinkPads, if I ever wanted to bring it to a clean factory state using those discs, do I use rescue and recovery first, followed by the product recovery? I'm curious, what is the difference between the two?

Answer:How to use the rescue and recovery, and the product recovery discs ?

The disks you created will allow you to recover your operating sys. without the rescue and recovery portion of your harddrive. It is especially usefull if your harddrive dies and you need to load onto a new drive.

I went throught the HD recoevery process so I could sell on a clean laptop to a friend.

The process worked well and I've spent several nights downloading updates etc.

When I look at my C drive it shows a dissapointing 8GB free and 20GB used from a possible 30GB. Data E drive shows 26Gb free.

Any ideas what can be using all that disc space?

Answer:Satellite Pro L40 Recovery - C drive virtually full

You have notebook in front of you and you can check which data are saved on partition C.

How can I reenable full factory recovery? ThinkVantage button and F11 work perfectly, but on the last step (FINISH button) the system says "recovery has been removed from this machine".   Of course, if it's possible to get a registry/system patch/config file/services layout instructions or something from the original burned-in installation so to copy it's batter performance, I'd love to have  a link   Thank you.

It might or might not work, you can use the recovery media you created in any case.
Hope this helps.

Has anyone ever used the built in HP PC Recovery? Just wondering how well it works. I also have HP Recovery Discs if needed.

I'm just wondering because I'm thinking about wiping clean and doing fresh installs on everything. It's not urgent but I'm thinking it might need done in the not too distant future.

I tried System Restore several times with different dates and it didn't work so I'm wondering if the HP PC Recovery always works too and if it does a good job or not.

Thanks for any experiences or stories you can share.

Answer:Built in HP PC Recovery or HP Recovery Discs

The built in HP Recovery works fine. It's slow, but it's OK. Your PC will be just like it was on day one: all the programs and icons that were there (like Norton, Musicmatch, all the special offer crapola, etc) will be there again. The CD's might be quicker, but you'll probably still have all the 'bloatware'.

Answer:no recovery discs nor recovery partion now have no os

OK, having the product key means that there's a chance that you can use a generic Vista disk. If you don't know anyone with a Vista disk you can download the files and instructions from here: - note that there are three files for each version and you will need all 3 - the largest is over 2.5Gb so make sure you do it on a fast unlimited connection."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." My toshiba laptop C650 has sistem indicator for charging always amber.
Even if it is full charged.

If I disconnect it from charger it runs from battery long enought, this tell me may battery is ok.
But why this indicator stay amber ? Is there a problem ?

Do I have to worry about that ?
Thank you.

Answer:Satellite C650: Battery indicator is always amber even after full charge

Usually the battery indicator should switch to green (color depends to notebook model) if the battery is fully charged.
If the battery indicator does not switch from amber to green/blue then this would mean that the battery is not fully charged?
Well, maybe you should try to calibrate the battery once again?
Discharge the battery until its fully empty, then charge it again until the battery status would show 100% of charge? then discharge the battery again? this procedure should be repeated two, three times in the row!

If this does not help, well? you could test a new battery but I don?t know if its worth to purchase a new battery if the current battery still works ok.

They should sell you recovery disc without any problems. If you call customer service and you feel that the conversation is going no ware you probably talking to wrong person. Disconnect and tray another time, you will never speak to the same person twice OEM reinstall disc doesn?t need activation, retail windows disc needs but you have serial number on the sticker so just call Microsoft and activate it. Recovery disc is a copy of your computer hard drive with windows, drivers, software includedReinstall disc is the same for all computers with windows only, you have to install drivers and software separatelyReinstall OEM disc is only for Lenovo system but it is the same like retail windows disc with added pre-activation

Answer:Satellite T110-11U - Where to find HDD partition recovery key?

Hi buddy,

Which keys you mean exactly? That?s not clear enough.

Furthermore the notebook doesn?t have a recovery partition. If you mean the Windows RE partition that is hidden, that?s not a Toshiba feature. It?s a Windows feature and has nothing to do with Toshiba.

The HDDrecovery files are stored on a second partition of the HDD. You can start this feature if you go in advanced boot menu and select ?Repair my Computer?. The factory image will be loaded and installed.

On the bottom side of the notebook you should find a serial number for Windows on a sticker. It belongs to the preinstalled Windows version can?t be used with normal Windows disks.

Normally you can start the HDD recovery feature if you press the F8 button to go in advanced boot menu. After this select ?repair my computer? and in next windows you can choose the HDD recovery option from Toshiba.

By the way: Which OS you have installed at the moment? HDD recovery is only possible on preinstalled OS from Toshiba!

Hi Everyone - when I turned on my laptop for the first time, it asked me to set up the Recovery Wizard, but since I didnt really know what options to choose, I cancelled the task. I am yet to find where on my laptop the Recovery Wizard is, to set it up again - can someone pleae direct me where to look?

Many thanks [and remember, novice here, so layman instructions thanks :) ]

Answer:Satellite L750 - Where do I find the recovery wizard?

Hi buddy,

You can start the HDD recovery if you press F8 key before Windows starts. Then select ?Repair my computer?. Some Windows files will be loaded and on next window called ?System recovery options? choose the last option ?Toshiba HDD Recovery? and follow the screen instructions. If you need a more detailed explanation with some pics check the official Toshiba document about this procedure:

Last but not least you should create the Toshiba recovery disk with preinstalled recovery media creator. In case it would go something wrong you can restore the original factory settings everytime and you are on the safely side :)

First of all, I've got a A200 1BP Vista Home Premium and I lost the product recovery disc and I want to create one with Toshiba Product Recovery Disc Creator or Vista's "recdisc.exe".

They both failed as I had a message "No HDD Recovery Area!" which then I looked at the "Disc Management" section and couldn't find any unnamed partition.

There were two Primary Partition which were 1.46 GB "Healthy (EISA Configuration)" and my Vista (C:).
So what should I do? Can I create a recovery partition?
Or can I fix the Recovery Disc Creator? (v.

PS: I recovered my computer many times with my CD, which probably used my recovery partition.
Seriously, I'm out of ideas and I don't wanna lose 50 bucks just to have another copy of PR Disc.

PS2: I used press "0" and "F8" thing too, they didn't work either.
Is there any way I can restore without any discs?

It looks like the HDD recovery partition is missing?
The first partition 1.46GB is created by Vista automatically and the C partition is the system partition? the HDD recovery partition does not seem to be available?

> PS: I recovered my computer many times with my CD, which probably used my recovery partition.
Did you recover the Vista using the Recover disk or what disk did you use???

If you installed the system using Vista Microsoft disk then this was a big mistake because this has deleted the HDD partition?

> Is there any way I can restore without any discs?
Either you will use a MS Vista disk and the missing drivers you could download from Toshiba page or you will order the Toshiba recovery disk? don?t see other solution?

I have a Toshiba Satellite U205-S5002. Yesterday when I attempted to start my laptop I received this error message: windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \windows\system32\config\system

And something about pressing "r" from the recovery disk. Well, I booted from the only disk I received when I purchased the computer and there is no option for repair. The only options available are to return the laptop to "out of box" condition, or to erase the hard drive. In addition, every search I've done on this error message references a recovery console, yet I cannot seem to find one.

I have several very important documents that I did not back up. Also, this happened after I shut the laptop down and put it in my laptop backback (in a nylon zipped pocket) and wonder if it could have overheated? I'm dreading the possibility that my documents cannot be retrieved.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Specifically I need to know if and how I can get to the recovery console (I've tried F8 to no avail).

Please help...

Answer:Toshiba Satellite Can't Find Recovery Console

Hi, and welcome to TSF!

You need to borrow a Windows CD because the Toshiba recovery disk does not have the recovery console on it. This will allow you to run the recovery console.

There is no valid HDD recovery enviroment on this computer. "

I want to ask what should I do reistall my OS. I have no disc with OS and tool for creating backup disc doesnt work.

If I use this tool for reinstalling OS, will I loss all informations on drive D ( Vista is on drive C)

Answer:Satellite A300-247 cant find HDD recovery folder

Seems the HDD recovery does not work.
Possibly something has been changed on the HDD recovery partition or the recovery files has been deleted?

Usually it?s always advisable to create a recovery disk at first. This should be done at the beginning and such recovery disk is always helpful if something would go wrong with HDD recovery or with the HDD?

Now you cannot recover the notebook because you don?t have such disk and the HDD does not work?

What to do???
Well, I think you would need to order new disk.
You can do this here:
