Sorry to bother you but I need some help if possible.

Preferred Solution: Satellite Pro C660-1nq - cant access HDD recovery

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite Pro C660-1nq - cant access HDD recovery

>What am I doing wrong?

After pressing F8 button, choose Repair my Computer and in the new menu you could choose HDD recovery as described here:

I removed the operating system from the C drive in my laptop and now i want to use the HDD recovery to re-install the recovery again
Can I know the right way to make this!!
Thanks.

Answer:Satellite C660-172 and HDD recovery installation

I don't know how you have removed OS from partition C and what have you done exactly and I?m a little bit sceptic this will work but you can try it anyway.

Do it as described in follow document - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R02.htm

I ordered a set of 2 Toshiba recovery CD's and received them yesterday in order to fix this laptop from a Windows breakdown...

The problem arising at start up is that Windows 7 isn't starting up plus that the hard disk doesn't show in the BIOS (the DVD-drive does) and after the boot sequence the following message comes up: ?Reboot and select proper boot device or insert root media in selected boot device? Someone suggested the drive is broken or the cables to the same detached or lose.

The owner says, that the error first appeared after McAfee offered to "remove 15 errors found on the disk". The laptop has never been opened.

When running the recovery CD 1 the boot sequence starts the recovery but initially shows two pop-ups that indicate that the hard disk cannot be found.

First error message - ERROR: IOCTL_DISK_GET_LENGTH_INFO \\. \PHYSICALDRIVE0 The device is not ready.

Second error message says something like - There is no access to disk #0 or the RAID configuration isn't correct!

After accepting both messages the prompt hands out the error that also appears in this thread...

...and stops at this line...

X:\ windows\ system32 >

...reporting that the recovery failed.

I have fooled around with the advices in this thread...

[http://superuser.com/questions/318322/... Read more

Answer:Recovery CD's do not recover Satellite C660-1WN

(...continued from first post...)

Left to be said is that I also - before I ordered the recovery CDs - ran the second diagnostic DOS tool in the first table to check the disk and got the following report...

- HDD power cable is not properly attached to the HDD

- HDD interface cable is not properly attached to the HDD

- HDD master-slave setting is incorrect

...and equally that no disk could be detected.

My question is now..., what is wrong here? Is it the physical disk that might be the problem? Is it the software? MBR? Can the latter be restored by some command in the prompt? If, then how? Would it be easier to erase the whole disk and then use the recovery CDs? Or won't this work since the recovery CDs can only work with the recovery information on the disk (I assume that this information is only physically on the disk not on the recovery CDs, isn't this correctly understood)?

I am looking forward to any input and help. Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

I'm hoping someone can help me or knows what to do. I have Satellite C660-15r it was turned off properly but when put back on it came up with start windows normally as if it has been interrupted, I clicked ok to that but instead of loading it has gone to do some sort of recovery only it hasn't been able to complete this and instead has said there is nothing to recover.

It is know stuck at this and will not go any further says to get system admin to log in however its not allowing to log in or do anything apart from shut down and restart, I have been trying to factory reset but it will not work at all I have tried many attempts with 0 and other options i have been told this doesn't work but I can get up f2 and f8 on load up all that works ok but I cannot find any option to be able to factory reset. it gives me options to recover but they take me to the same screen with no improvements and safe mode will not work.

I hope someone can help me I will be so grateful.

Thank you in advance.

Shell :)

Answer:Satellite C660-15r stucks and no recovery possible

At first I must say that recovery option is available if notebook has ?factory settings?. After reading your posting I don?t know if you still use original OS installation that you got with your notebook or maybe OS preinstalled on your own.

I presume you didn't create recovery media (DVD) using preinstalled Toshiba recovery media creator, right?
In your situation usage of recovery disc could be easiest way to fix this and install original recovery image.

Can you please post exact notebook model?

Apologies if this is the wrong subforum:

Being the idiot I am, I changed my WIndows Login password and since I use very long passwords, I have no idea what I changed it to. Guessing is out of the question.

So I powered on my laptop while holding the 0 key, which brought me to the Windows Boot Manager screen. I pressed F8 on Windows 7 for advanced options and opted for 'Recovery Mode' as I have used this in the past to install the OS from scratch.

It asks me to select a keyboard layout and then enter my username and password to procede with HDD Recovery. It is this lack of password which is the reason for recovery.

Any advice on what I can do?

Thanks

Answer:HDD Recovery Issue on C660 Satellite

>It asks me to select a keyboard layout and then enter my username and password to procede with HDD Recovery. It is this lack of password which is the reason for recovery.
On this step you must enter your Windows login name and login password. Without right password you will not be able to start HDD recovery installation.

There is second option to install recovery image. You can do it now using recovery DVD. Have you created it using preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator?

I need some help for my sons laptop which is the Satellite Pro C660-1LR.

The hard drive in this laptop completely died, i did not create a recovery disc for this laptops system.
I have purchased a new hard drive which is installed..however as you have guessed i have no access to reinstalling a OS, this laptop runs on windows 7.

I am not really tech savvy so if anyone can advise me please make explain in idiot proof format!! I am trying to avoid having to purchase anything to costly.

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-1LR - New HDD but no recovery disc

> I am trying to avoid having to purchase anything to costly.
Problem is that you don't have many options about that.
If you want to have ?factory settings? again you need recovery installation disc. You can order it on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx Of course it is not for free but, in my opinion, definitely the best solution.

You can buy Microsoft installation disc and install own version. You must buy valid licence for it.
In this case you must install all necessary drivers, tools and utilities additionally one by one.

Just in case that you can get this Microsoft installation and licence for free you can save some money.

Believe me the best solution is original recovery disc order.

Hi everyone !
I have Toshiba Sattelite C660-1J9 laptop, and it's been working fine - until a day my HDD died. Now it's producing some weird sounds on startup, and no HDD visible in BIOS. It's not a problem for me to buy new HDD and replace it, but I'd like to restore licensed Windows I had with laptop - so I need to place recovery partition on new HDD somehow. Is it possible and where I can find this recovery partition image ?
Thanks in advance !

Hello,

A month ago I purchased a Toshiba C660-1FE. After three weeks my HD broke down. I bought a new HD from Western Digital and replaced the broken HD. As I did not make an recovery image of my HD, I had to order the Product recovery discs off the Toshiba website (3 discs, of which disc 1 and 3 were the only one's required for installation).

Now, I have the problem that my laptop keyboard does not work. I am currently using a USB keyboard and mouse to replace my keyboard and touchpad of the laptop.

The laptop keyboard works fine in BIOS. Therefore, I hope it's just a driver problem.

I have:

tried finding and installing lots of drivers on from the toshiba website, no result.
tried changing settings in the bios (usb enable/disable).
tried to fix the problem by re-installing the entire computer again several times.

The keyboard seems to work until windows loads. When the system is starting up I can press caps lock and num lock and the green lights come on. This all stops working once the windows startup symbol appears.

Perhaps a second problem in the device manager: under the display-adapter, 2 subcategories have exclamation marks: it says Mobile Intel(R) 4 series express chipset family twice! I can't seems to fix these with any drivers I can find either. When I check the settings I have this message (google translate since it was in dutch):

Answer:After Recovery with CD Satellite C660-1FE keyboard does NOT work

Hi

Keyboard works in BIOS? this means that the keyboard hardware should be ok and the connection between the motherboard and keyboard is established.

So what could be wrong? Keyboard driver?
Hmm? the keyboard driver is a part of the Windows OS and is installed automatically while OS installation?
I would recommend following:
Go to device manager and extract the point Keyboard.
There you should see something like ?standard PS/2 keyboard?
If you will see a red cross near this device, then this means that the keyboard is disabled.
Usually you should be able to enable this again (in device manager).
If there is no red cross, then I recommend deleting this keyboard from the device manager list?then reboot the notebook. Usually the OS should recognize the removed device automatically and should install the driver too.

Check this.

By the way: it could be possible that you have received a wrong Recovery disk? this could explain the issues after the recover procedure?

Hi

is there a way to make the recovery disks install win7 x32 instead of x64 (Satellite Pro C660-2JR)

Answer:Recovery disks creation for Satellite Pro C660-2JR

If your notebook was delivered with 64bit version you can create recovery disc for this preinstalled version only. With other words, recovery image saved on recovery partition will be saved on empty DVD disc. Nothing more than that.

If you want to use 32bit OS you must check if your notebook model is supported for it and install own version.

Using the Toshiba original recovery discs the process gets partway through and then gives the following messages...

Error restoring image
The device is not ready

ERROR: ImageX could not apply Win7 V:\HDDRecovery\SWImg\15489XSP.swm Index 2 from HDD to C:!

Can anybody advise?!
Thanks

Answer:Cannot install recovery image on Satellite C660

Unfortunately there is no some ?workaround? to force recovery image installation to run properly.
All you can do at the moment is to set BIOS to default settings and try to use recovery disc again.
Be sure disc is clean.

Do you use recovery discs for the first time?

Hi folks,

Posting this question for my neighbour as he now has no internet access as laptop not working - Satellite C660 running Win7.

When powering up he gets the Toshiba screen then a blank screen with cursor at the top left flashing.

Tried to boot from Win7 DVD (Pressed F12 to get to boot options & changed to DVD), can hear the drive trying to access the dvd but then get the message 'failed'. Win7 DVD works in both my laptop and desktop pc's.

Any ideas.

Thank you

Nigel

Answer:Satellite C660 Won't boot from HDD or recovery disks

> When powering up he gets the Toshiba screen then a blank screen with cursor at the top left flashing.

Possibly the HDD is dead.
You ca try to power up the unit and press F2
Now you should be able to access the BIOS.

If the HDD isn?t listed on the first BIOS page, then this means that HDD isn?t recognized by BIOS and this means that HDD is faulty.

Hello Voger

I have created numerous recovery DVD on several Toshiba notebooks and have never noticed something like this. I have used DVD-R discs only and brands were Verbatim or TDK.

Unfortunately I cannot give you answer what does this message means but you must try to repeat DVD creation. If possible try with TDK.
If the same happen again I recommend you to recovery your notebook using HDD recovery option and try to create recovery discs again.

After completing first few initial steps, it goes to 'finishing installation' page and then gives an error message. After clicking to the dialog box 'ok' it resumes as 'Finishing installation' again. And now it has been almost 2 hours. It is still there. No improvement. What should I do ?

Hello,

on the laptop TOSHIBA C660, replaced the hard drive and, as a fact, the OS flew down (Windows 7 SP1 HB x 64).
Installed not licensed, there was no way out, on the Microsoft website, to download the image, the key from the laptop is not suitable.

Not a licensed image, there was no desire to put, the assembly is an assembly, naturally installed such an operating system behaved badly, buggy.

Done, and now the laptop does not work.
In the service center installation of OS and drivers costs 3500 rbl.

Offensively. So I'm looking for help on the forum.

Please, kindly request help. Thank you.

Hi!

I have a laptop from a client, that is a Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-239, and i'm having a strange issue.

The original hard disk failed, and as the laptop is out of warranty, we bought a new hard disk, and ordered the recovery media to this model, from our local toshiba repair assistance.

After the setup copied the files to the disk, the imageX fails when restoring the image files with the error:

"the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable".

The hard disk is new, and i tried also with more 2 hard disks, and also with an external cd-rom drive.

I talked with the support from the local repair assistance, and they told me this occurs because the new hard drive ins't compatible with the recovery media?!

One of the new hard disks i tried, was the exact same model than the original hard disk, and the error still occurs, so the hard disk can't be the problem.

Is there any change of the recovery media is corrupted?

Could also be a motherboard problem?

Thank you

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-239 - Error restoring from recovery media

> Is there any change of the recovery media is corrupted?
Of course this is possible.
In case the HDD is OK, the recovery media could be corrupted.

>Could also be a motherboard problem?
I don?t think so?. I presume the HDD is recognized in BIOS properly and the error message says something about corrupted directory. I guess the disk directory is meaning and I think media should be replaced.

Toshiba recovery disc can be created with preinstalled ?Toshiba recovery media creator tool? ONLY.

For recovery DVD creation I recommend you to use DVD-R empty medias only.

So is the data on D safe if I use recovery?

thanks

Answer:Re: Satellite C660/C660D will using recovery erase data on D partition?

Hi

From my knowledge using Recovery Disk would format the whole HDD and all partitions would be created again during this process.
This means that your data on D partition is not safe.

But from my experience the usage of HDD recover would format only the system (C) partition? not quite sure if this applies to all the Toshiba notebooks so possibly you should test this first time? in such case would recommend backup the data in case D partition would be erased.

Hi all

Just a query
My GF turned on her laptop Satellite C660 series and it would not boot up, we tried to initiate the recovery sequence from the recovery partition but kept getting the error that was on boot up (the error was telling us a USB device had been unplugged).

As you probably guessed she never made the back-up discs when prompted, all I could think of was using a win 7 disc and reload that way then try and make the recovery discs after (I didn't activate)
so win 7 was installed nicely and all drivers sourced that was all last week.
Now for the crunch , the recovery partition is there can I now make the recovery discs and install from those , the win 7 I installed will soon require activation
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite C660 - recovery partition is there but can I make back up discs?

After own OS installation you cannot create recovery disc anymore and you can not install recovery image using HDD recovery option (F8 at start-up).

Best thing you can do now is to order original disc from Toshiba and use it for recovery image installation. It is definitely easiest way to have ?factory settings? again.

I have a brand-new Satellite Pro C660. It worked fine for a day, now it won't load windows. I didn't get around to creating the recovery disks as I've only had it a few hours (yes, yes, I know, should have been the first thing I did). All the data is present (but backed up to USB just in case) and I can see the HDDREcovery folder with all data intact. However, I can't run the app to create recovery disks. Does anyone know how to extract the images and create the media using only the command prompt? (I can get into command prompt by booting from a friend's Win 7 disk). All boot options from the laptop's own drives fail. It says "Windows Failed to Load", and I try Startup Repair but it doesn't find any errors. Any help/thoughts on this will be much appreciated!

Did you think about the HDD?
It could be a HDD malfunction that does not allow you to install the system.

There is a nice tool called Drive Fitness Test. You can use it for HDD check.

Strange problem. My Satellite C660D-1FM was doing a bunch of updates from Microsoft (hadn't done any updates for ages as it was used by my daughter and not connected to the internet) and after they had completed it rebooted and I got the Toshiba splash screen and then nothing. Holding F8 gives the same problem, tried holding the '0' key while powering on and that was the same. Connected an external monitor and it's the same. I can get into the BIOS and everything looks fine.

So, thinking the hard drive might be faulty I fitted another hard drive and fully installed Win7 from a Microsoft DVD (SP1 and all updates) and everything works. I then thought I'd try and restore the laptop to default factory settings using the Toshiba recovery DVD's which Id created. All worked fine during the install, all 3 DVD's installed and it went through the setup procedure, laptop got to the end when it wanted to reboot, rebooted and now back to the same error - Toshiba splash screen is ok but then it just goes blank. To convince myself I wasn't going mad I then re-installed Win7 from my Microsoft DVD and it installs fine, does all updates and has worked all day today with no issue.

Anyone any idea what's going on?

Answer:Satellite C660 - blank screen after recovery image instalation

Hmmm... something like this should not happen.
Do you use recovery discs for the first time?
Have you noticed the same result on both HDDs?

Problem is that there is no much to do about that and there is no way to change anything while recovery installation runs or later when windows setup is in progress.

Try to set BIOS to default settings and simply try to install recovery image again.

So I connected my external DVD writer (NEC ND-3500AG) (firmware 2.1A) and took THE SAME DVD and burned it: presto: no problems: 0 validation errors

So I deduce that the internal DVD writer (TSSTcorp TS-L633C) (firmware TF20) is chunky.

I am still in warranty but... is it any use?

Recently bought Satellite C660 11K and loaded a game on to it, within a couple of hours it froze (ctrl alt delete wouldn't work) I shut it down and started it back up and got a message saying some software or hardware was stopping Windows from working.

I restored it to factory settings with the recovery disk. However I have not loaded any games or other software since, but it keeps freezing and I've had to use the recovery disk 3 times!
I don't know what else to try!

Hello, I have just upgraded to Windows 10 Home from Windows 7 and now HWSETUP.EXE does not run and when restart the laptop I cant get into the BIOS using F2 or F12. Can anyone helpmeet please? Kind Regards

Answer:Satellite C660-125 - Unable to access BIOS after Upgrading to Windows 10

You need to install the Toshiba System Driver for Windows 10.
However the C660 doesnt appear to be in the supported list, so you may need to go into the BIOS instead.

Hold SHIFT during shutdown to stop Windows from entering Hybrid Suspend Mode. Keep on holding SHIFT until the power LED turns off.
The F2 BIOS message only appears if the notebook does a cold boot.

Hi,

Can someone please help,

I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite C660/C660D for my nephew, We have forgotten the administrator password and we don't have password reset disk is there anyway around this.

Thanks

Answer:I forgot my administrator password on Satellite C660/C660

Hi

I assume you are talking about windows system password and not about BIOS password. Right?
It?s not very big problem if you forgotten the System password but if you mean BIOS password then you are in trouble because the BIOS password can be deleted just by an Toshiba ASP technicians?

So I assume you mean Windows password? so start the notebook and press F8
Now you can choose Repair my Computer and then choose HDD recovery.
This would start a HDD recovery procedure which would reinstall the system? during the setup you can set anther admin password.

Of course there are some other methods but as far as I know this requires 3rd party software/tools or Win 7 DVD? so I think the HDD recovery is the fastest solution.

When I first got this product, before opening I thought that all the 500gb would go to the first partition, but then I saw that the recovery partition has half of the 500gb just for recovery which is unnessecery.

But I had no problem with this at the time, and used the recovery partition(after saving to a disk) for ubuntu so I could have a dual boot.

But now I've came to realise that the games I'm downloading are taking more and more room up on my C drive. The problem I have is that I can shrink my recovery partition and enlarge the C drive.

Does anyone know a work around?

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-225: Shrinking recovery partition englarge C partition

You will need an 3rd party software to shrink the recovery partition and to add the free space the existing C partition.
I would recommend you an freeware tool called Gparted

But before you would start doing this, create a recovery disk!
This is advisable in case you would try to set the notebook back to factory settings using such disk.

Hey Folks,
I had a problem with a virus on that sat pro, so I decided to totally erase the hdd to get rid of that virus. Bevor I did that, I saved everything from partiton D including the recovery path and after erasing of course I copied everything back at it's place (second partition).
Now trying to recover and don't know how to do it. F11, F10 and F8 seems not to work. Do I need the Recovery media created with recovery media creator or can I still use the recovery path on the new D: partition?
Thanks for your help in advance,
Stefan

Answer:Recovery on Sat Pro C660-2KM with new HDD with restored Recovery partition

Unfortunately recovery procedure doesn?t work on this way.
What you need now is recovery disc.
Generally speaking recovery image on second partition is useless and you will not be able to start it.

Hi all,

I want to do a Toshiba Product Recovery, using the partition on the HDD. I've done it before, and no problems.

But when I press F8 --> Repair Computer --> selecting language --> Then I have to select a user (Administrator/My name/Guest) When I select Administrator it says that my account has been deactivated, when I select the user with my name (Kenneth) it continues to the menu where I can select the various options for the recovery. If I select the Toshiba Product blah blah thingy a screen comes up saying that it can't find HDD 01. I haven't done anything with the partition containing Vista.

My guess is that I need to login as administrator, which is impossible. My user account in Vista is an administrator,

Can someone please help?

I'm using a P300

hi!

I have a Toshiba Satellite L650-11F.

The other day I got a huge massive damn virus (lol) and the computer turned off. Every time I tryed to turn it on, it started to load Windows and then restart. I even tryed to start Windows in security mode but same thing happened, just keep restarting. I tryed to fix Windows (by pressing f8 and etc) and no sucess, he kept restarting.

So I tryed to put it back as it came from fabric and when I press 0 or F1 just happears 2 options: choose an opperating system to start or press tab to select a tool: Windows 7 Tools: Windows memory diagnostic

Can you please help me? Is there another way I can access to the hdd recovery hidden partition? please :(

Answer:Satellite L650-11F - How to access the HDD recovery?

Hi dakova,

Ist he original OS from Toshiba still installed? I ask this because it?s necessary for HDD recovery. If you have installed another OS you can?t access the HDD recovery option.
Furthermore the HDD recovery option can be accessed if you press F8 key before Windows starts. In advanced boot menu select ?Repair my computer?. The exact procedure is described here:
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R01.htm

Alternative you can take the Toshiba recovery disk. This will also restore the original factory settings. :)

It seams from what I ve read on forums that the win7(being different then the one on recovery partition) that is instaled at the moment can't see the recovery partition any more (something was delleted when I ve instaled the copy from my friend.).

is there something i have to replace to boot into it or is there a way to fix it?

Thanks .

Have you created recovery DVDs following advice in User?s manuals document?

Hi all,

I have an L30 (psl33e) which has the recovery partition in tact but I cannot find how to access it.

I don't recall a recovery CD and thought that holding zero or F10 down when powering the laptop on would allow me to recover the system.

If I need a recovery CD to access the partition then where do I obtain that?

Any help would be appreciated.

Ben

Answer:Satellite L30 PSL33E - How to access the Recovery partition

Hi

I think your Sat L30 was not equipped with the HDD recovery option and therefore there is no HDD recovery partition!

If your notebook would support the HDD recovery then it should be able to restore this notebook pressing the F8 button immediately after notebook has been powered up.
Then you could choose the option ?Repair my computer?.

But as I said above, I doubt this L30 would support this because as far as I know the Recovery disk should be delivered with the notebook.

If you don?t have a Recovery disk then try this website:
https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

If you will be not able to order the disk using the website above then contact the ASP in your country for a Recovery DVD.

Bye

Hi, I just bought a Toshiba Satellite L500D-00F shipping with Windows 7 Home Premium and my OS doesn't work well so I need to boot on the recovery partition but I can't find any way to do so...

=============
FULL STORY :P
=============

The first boot launched the hidden recovery partition and I followed procedure to install the computer's OS.

At one point it would ask me if I wanted 32 bits or 64 bits version of Windows 7, so I just chose the default option (32 bits) because I couldn't find anywhere in the merchant's L500D specifications that is was a 64 bits processor.

After the computer installation, it booted up Windows 7 correctly and I could hear the startup sound, see my desktop for a second and the screen went black, nothing worked at all and I discovered my computer was in fact a 64 bits unit, so that's probably why the video driver won't work correctly, I guess. Everytime I boot my laptop, I see my desktop for a second then it goes black and freezes like that.

Anyway... I want to launch that recovery partition again and reinstall my OS using the 64 bits version.

I?m having trouble to start up Windows (Vista Home Premium) on a Satellite A500D. The problem started when i was logging in after being inactive for a while. During the login-process the screen froze. I waited a couple of minutes before finally turning the computer off using the power button.

Since then, the system won?t start again. I have been able to get to the advanced boot options (F8) and there i can choose "Repair my computer". But nothing happens after that, except a black screen and after a while a white mouse pointer, slightly bigger than usual. After that nothing, but if i wait long enough the computer turns itself off.

Unfortunately the recovery disc I created when I first bought the computer has been damaged when i moved to a new apartment. So I don?t have that option either. Any suggestions on what I can do to bring it back to life again?

And would it solve the problem if i bought a new disc with windows vista home premium and use that instead of a recovery disc? If that is an option, would it also work if I bought a disc with windows 7 or XP, cause I don?t really like Vista anyway so I wouldn?t mind switching.

Any help is appreciated (and apologies if I don?t make sense, English is not my first language).

Answer:Cannot access factory recovery on Satellite A500D

I agree with you that recovery image installation is maybe best solution for you. I don?t know why you cannot start recovery image installation but problem is that you cannot force anything. Either it works or not.

All you can do is to try it several times but if there is no success I?m afraid you have two options only:
-to order new recovery disc - https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
-to install own OS using original Microsoft installation disc

What do you think about that?

I have a Toshiba Satellite C655D that I am trying to do a factory recovery on. I have found how to supposedly access the recovery but it does not work. You are suppose to power off the laptop and hold down the zero (0) key and then press the power button...but it does not work. I can boot up with a Windows disc, BartPE, Hiren...etc. and I can see the 12 GB recovery partition, but can't get to it.

This is a Satellitte C665D-S5332 laptop and some of the instructions are for models close to this. Does anyone know how to bring up the factory recovery menu beside using the Zero key thing? Or does anyone know what kind of image backup Toshiba uses to make the image? i.e. Acronis, Norton...etc. Maybe I can use the actual program to restore with.

Help?

Hi

I formatted Windows 7 with a Windows XP CD but failed installation. I wanted to know how to access the recovery partition to set it to factory default, all there is on the laptop at the moment is ubuntu but I'm sure I saw an extra partition which should contain the recovery files as the laptop did not come with a recovery disk and unfortunately I didnt create one.

How can I access the recovery partition on the laptop bearing in mind I formatted the drive Windows 7 was installed on or do I need to activate or something like that?

Any help much appreciated

Answer:Re: Satellite Pro L450D-12X - How to access the recovery partition?

Hey,

On second partition of your notebook (data partition) you can find a folder called ?HDDrecovery? and it contains the recovery files. The problem is that you can use the HDD recovery feature only with preinstalled operating system. This would mean in your case it?s too late now and it?s not useable anymore.

Have you created the Toshiba recovery disk as mentioned in user manual? If yes you can use this disk to restore the original factory settings. Just boot from this disk and follow the screen instructions.

If you don?t have the recovery disk you can order it here:

Hello Support Forum :-)

Answer:Satellite C850-1JV doesn't access BIOS, F12 or HDD Recovery

I tried some unconventional methods by myself and *could solve the problem with a trick.*

I will publish it here, because it seems that a implemented function of the board or bios doesn't allow to use bootkeys until an booterror occurs so that you are only able to use this features in case of a needed recovery or so.

Shutdown Windows.
Wait until all lights at the laptop front are off.
Then hold the power button pressed down while switching on again.
After a few seconds this will power off and on the laptop again.

Then immediatly release the power button and press the desired function key (seems so that it is needed to be pressed before the screen "TOSHIBA Leading Innovation" appears).

After under a second the desired function appears on screen.
If not try again. It seems that the system must think a boot error occurs.

Good Luck

Answer:Satellite P300D: how do i access Recovery partition for a refresh?

You said:
> installed XP over my French copy of Vista,

I think the Win XP installation formatted the HDD and erased the HDD partition and therefore you will be not able to recover the notebook using the HDD recovery procedure.
Even so the second partitions has not been erased, you will be not able to choose the recovery HDD because the advanced settigns will not appear which would allow you to start the HDD recovery.

However, you can try to press F8 at the beginning and could check if advanced settings would appear. If they will not appear then you cannot use the HDD recovery .

In such case you have to order the Toshiba Recovery disk from here:
https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

The F8 and holding O on pressing key doesnt bring up the the menu with the restore option.

Any clue as to how I can extract / use the HDD recovery that I have

Answer:Satellite C650 - can't access HDD recovery to restore Win7

Problem is that recovery image saved on external HDD cannot be used. In user?s manuals document is clearly described that notebook owner must create recovery media. This recovery media can be DVD disc or USB stick, depending on notebook model.

All you can do now is to order original recovery disc or to install own OS version using Microsoft installation disc but it is also not the best solution.

What do you think about all this? If you have more questions you are welcome.

Heya

I can't access the recovery manager on a Toshiba L350. I have tried holding down 0 (zero, both of them) at the start to access the HD-Recovery, but nothing happens. Is there something obvious I'm missing?

The reason I want to access is:
I have a Toshiba l350 with a partly installed windows here. At the moment, it gets "Starting Windows" and "The instalation program is started services" (in Norwegian) whichs stop with a popupbox saying "The computer unexpectedly restartet, or an unexpected error occured. The insatllation cannot procceed. To install Windows you have to click ok to restart the computer. Start the installation process again.".

What started the trouble was that during the last part of the installation (after Win7 became usable, but before everything was setup), escape was pressed and the computer was used normally.

Answer:Satellite L350: Can't access recovery partition by pressing 0

> I can't access the recovery manager on a Toshiba L350. I have tried holding down 0 (zero, both of them) at the start to access the HD-Recovery, but nothing happens. Is there something obvious I'm missing?

I assume you are using an European notebook model and therefore you should try this;
- Press F8 while notebook powering up.
- Then choose ?Repair my Computer?
- Then ?Toshiba HDD Recovery?.

This should allow you to start the Toshiba HDD recovery process.

Hey guys!

For one reason and another I'm considering ordering a Toshiba C660 recovery disk' (Mainly because I would like to sell this laptop and a clean install of Windows 7 is more appealing and secure) but before I go ahead and buy the disk from Toshiba, I presume I will have to enter the windows 7 product key printed on the bottom of my laptop?

The only real problem with this is the key has faded quite badly (Being on the bottom it's seen some use..) and I can't quite make out the last few numbers on the sticker

Is there a way I can get a new key? Or get around entering the key on the new install of windows?

For those interested, a photo of the sticker is below, maybe someone with better eyesight could help?

<Image removed to avoid piracy - ETAF Moderator>

Answer:Toshiba C660 Recovery Disk - Few Questions

I removed the image, because if anyone can read the key - they can use it and put on the internet for anyone to use

Use this program and you will get the key
https://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/

you can also use Belarc - System Management For The Internet Age. Software license management, IT asset management, IT security audits and more.
to get the key

Also goto the toshiba site and download all the drivers for the PC and put them on a Disk - that will make it easy to re-install any drivers if needed.

Also you could probably make the recovery DVD your self - if the PC has a recovery partition
You should have a recovery manager to create the media

have a look at
Control Panel
Administrative Tools
Computer Manager
Disk Manager

should see if there is a partition called recovery

Hi there,

I have a Satelite C660-225 and want to restore it to it's original settings using the zero button. The recovery starts but then the laptop says it can't find the restore files. But they are on the C drive and I made a copy to the D drive.

Answer:Re: Satelite C660-225 can't find recovery files

Generally speaking recovery image is originaly saved on partition D and on some machines on hidden recovery partition but definitely not on partition C.

You cannot ?move? recovery files from one place to another end expect that everything works well.

In your case HDD recovery image installation will not work anymore.
What you can do now is to try to create recovery media following method described on http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD4103KB0000R01.htm

You will be really lucky if this will work. If not you can order original recovery image on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

Hello all,

Yesterday all of a sudden, the laptop screen went blank. Upon turning it on several times, the screen still doesn't turn on. By connecting the monitor to a external monitor via VGA (my TV), the TV does show up the screen, but has several flickering horizontal lines showing, thus obscuring part of the screen (http://i.imgur.com/83RO8xg.jpg - ignore the windows behind, I was testing the sound - and it works).

I have tried several solutions on the web (like removing the battery and AC cable and pressing the power button, and interchanging the RAM card in the slots), and not surprisingly, nothing worked as I think my problem is not similar. Windows 10 just boots to a blue screen with a sad face and a QR code (I don't even know...), while Linux Mint does boot and gives a message of "running without hardware acceleration". I couldn't get any diagnosis on Linux to check if it's a problem on the graphic card or the motherboard, so I am turning to these forums to check if anyone had any similar problem.

Thank you.

Question: Satellite C660

My brother has a Satellite C660-1H6 laptop. Unfortunately his HDD went bad.
I installed a new HDD and reinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium, which was originally installed on the laptop.
Setup accepted his product key and installation went relatively smooth, only problem is that after installing the drivers, I cannot connect to wireless network.
Laptop uses an Atheros wireless card, model AR9285.
Things I tried, following forum suggestions:
-Allocate a MAC address instead of "Not present" to the wireless adapter.
-Changing various drivers, including the one from Toshiba page and some from the Atheros page.
-I installed ALL the drivers, I don't have any unknown device or exclamation mark in device manager
-Installed ConfigFree, Flash cards support utility, Value Added Package, Wireless LAN indicator (some users select that some of these are needed)
-I ran Windows troubleshooter
-I did a factory default reset in BIOS
-Although I did not change the antennas before, I also tested the wireless with the 2 antenna connectors replaced the other way on the wireless card.

Fn+F8 works, I can enable/disable the wireless. I can see a list of available networks, including mine. When is try to connect, it asks for password. My router is using WPA2-PSK authentication and AES encryption. I type the password, it tries to connect, but I get the following error message:

Can I add, or is it better to add 4GB RAM DDR3 to the second slot with *(1333MHZ)*?

Also the RAM I found is Unbuffered, what it means?

This depends on your chipset.
If your chipset supports 1333Mhz then the RAM will work with full performance, otherwise it would be clocked down to 1066Mhz.

Have a look at the other C660 models, if they have an i5 then your model should be able to take the same CPU.

I have the very annoying problem of key lag on my laptop which is a satellite C660 1-f-1 .

I've had the laptop for around 3 months and have tried the keyboard settings on all settings to no avail. I paid ?350 for this laptop and I'm getting increasingly aggravated !

I've read that the problem has cropped up with other models and that removing and then replacing the battery helps.. but I can't keep doing that mid conversation or e-mail !

I keep reading about these update download bios but have no idea what that means . Could somebody please explain in a plain English non-tech speak style please ?? !!

Answer:Key lag on Satellite C660-1F1

Hi Helenuk1963

A BIOS update is something that makes the main brain of the laptop smarter but this does not 100% mean it will fix it the normal fix is to run a recovery of the unit via the HDD by pressing F8 non stop on startup and selecting repair your computer then login and select Toshiba HDD recovery but before you do this make sure you have backed up all your data and created recovery disks via the toshiba recovery media creator in the start menu.

if you do want to run a BIOS update best thing to do is call Toshiba direct who can walk you though it and at least if something goes wrong it will be covered.

i installed drivers from toshiba site.
i tried some other drivers but nothing!!
please help me!!

Answer:No audio on Satellite C660-1CC

Hi Jim

When you try to get some help here please be so nice and offer more info about your machine. Please tell us which OS do you use.
Tell us something about preinstalled OS. Is it original OS version that you got with your machine or your own installation.
Since when you have noticed this audio issue?
Have you checked sound card status in device manager? Is sound card enabled properly?
Have you tried to test functionality using headphones or headset?

You know it is not easy to say much without some basic information.

I have a Toshiba satellite c660-155 PSCOQE, I just reinstalled windows 7 from a generic disk and i have lost the function (fn) keys functionality (I can no longer hold down fn and press a key to change brightness ect) what to i need to install to regain this??

Answer:Satellite C660-155 - cannot use FN keys

You need to install TOSHIBA Flash Cards Support Utility and then Toshiba value added package.

By the way: if you want to use own OS installation you need to install many other drivers, tools and utilities that should be installed in right installation order.
If you need some assistance with it let us know.

My daughter's laptop keeps freezing; I have used the internal `Repair' to set it back to the factory settings, but it is still the same. I have been told that it is a common symptom of a faulty hard drive, for which I was quoted approx £170.00 to replace and install the operating system. I am not a computer technician, but as I was a tv engineer, so feel that fitting a new HDD is within my capabilities, and as a replacement HDD from Toshiba is £80, this seems the logical thing to do; however before I buy a new HDD, can anyone tell me if it is correct that the freezing may be the result of it failing? I would just like the opinion of other people with computer knowledge before I spend my money, and I will not blame anyone if I choose to follow their advice and it doesn't cure the problem.
Any advice would be very welcome.
David

Answer:Toshiba Satellite Pro C660 - 1ux HDD

FReeezing PC

Overheat due to faulty / blocked fans
PSU voltages (not applicable to laptops)
Household power surges fridge etc switching on/off (does it freeze when running on battery only?)
faulty memory stick try memtest click here virus or spyware scan for both especially if shutting down with in a few minutes of switch on or internet use
driver conflicts especially graphics cards get the latest drivers for your equipment.

You can run a check on the drive. In explorer right click the drive select properties - Tools tab - check drive.
It may also freeze if there are a lot of windows open at the same time and cpu is at 100%
Or if there is not much spare space on the drive.
Model of toshiba laptop? Most hard drives ae easy to change as located under a cover on the base , some are harder to get at as may be under the keyboard. We can probably find a Youtube video or strip down instruction easy enough.
If it really is the drive then you an image the whole drive to an external drive using the free Macrium reflect make the rescue media from the same program - fit a new drive and restore the image to the new drive.

I find alot of batteries online, but my main concern is that. My laptop is Satellite C660-1M0 (ps1ge-02901fgs).

I find batteries that claim is for c660 but they reffer as (PA3634U-1BAS),some reffer as c660d and some reffer as c660 (PA3634U-1BRS). I am a bit comfused, is any compatible??

Thank you

Answer:What battery do i need to buy for Satellite C660?

When you remove original battery you can see which part number it has. In my opinion best thing is to order the same battery model. Using this part number you can try to find some online store where you can order it.

On the market you can find many batteries offered by some third part manufacturer (without Toshiba label on it). Such batteries are cheaper that original batteries by Toshiba. They could be good but usually they are dead pretty fast.
Last year I ordered such battery for my old A300. Battery was OK but I could not get it in place properly. The battery was in place but at the back side there was some kind of pressure and the plastic was out of shape. Anyway, it is your decision what to do.

Compatible batteries for your Satellite notebook have follow part numbers:
PA3757U-1BRS
PA3787U-1BRS
PA3817U-1BRS
PA3818U-1BRS
PA3820U-1BRS

Good luck

Hi.

In specification I can read that this model can be connected to the TV so I bought on eBay Scart to 15Pin S-VGA RGB Male HD TV LCD cable lead [http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280653117637&ssPageNam e=STRK:MEWNX:IT] .

When I plug the cable in (laptop is swiched off) then I'm not able to switch my Toshiba on.
I tryied to plug in the cable with laptop runing but can't figure out how to set it up.

Any suggestions?

Thx.

Answer:Satellite C660-15R - How to connect TV

Hi MusicInMe,

If you have connected the cable to your notebook and TV, press FN+F5 key combination as mentioned in your user manual to switch between monitors. You can choose between internal monitor, external monitor or both (clone display).

But I would recommend choosing the correct TV input channel first before you press FN+F5 key combination that notebook can detect the external monitor properly.

Hi.

I just wonder to upgrade CPU on my laptop to get some perfomance.
I have done upgrade RAM to 8 gb and 64bit Win7.
Now processor is i3-370M (3M cache, 2.40 GHz).

I'm pretty sure I can upgrade to i3-390M Processor (3M Cache, 2.66 GHz), but it will be IMO pointless.
There is same Cache and just a bit faster clock of CPU:

Answer:CPU upgrade on Satellite Pro C660-219

>I need someone to answer for question: may I fit to this laptop any i5 or i7 without trouble with compability with motherboard?
You have to know that CPUs upgrades are not supported by any notebook manufacturer. This means that nobody can say if an CPU would be fully compatible and would not cause any troubles. Such upgrades are own risk.

You could read this Toshiba statement regarding upgrades.
[Is it possible to upgrade the CPU or GPU of a Toshiba Notebook?|http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB9401AX0001R01.htm]

The point is that even the chipset which is part of the motherboard would support the new CPU, the BIOS could not be fully compatible and the combination of BIOS and new CPU could cause new troubles.

The unit seems to support the INTEL HM55 chipset and from my knowledge the Toshiba Satellite C660/C665/Pro C660 Series is based on a Dual Core/Quad Core Processor ( *Intel Arrandale* processors)

So if you want to search for a compatible CPU, you should check the CPUs belonging to the Intel Arrandale processors family.

I know that maybe some of you may think this is a puerile question, but did Toshiba Satellite C660 - 1c7 become obsolete? The reason behind my question is that I cannot find this particular model on the Toshiba product page anymore. It used to be there last time I checked, around the end of March/beginning of April.

This issue came into my attention when I was browsing the driver download page, and when I wanted to narrow my search, the C660 - 1c7 model wasn't listed anymore. I also tried using the short model number, and the Toshiba product detector software as well, but still, no results.

Can somebody please help me with an answer?
Thank you in anticipation, and have a great day!

Hello

Your Satellite C660-1C7 has part number PSC0SE.
I have checked Toshiba download page - http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp and your notebook model is definitely listed there. When you open option ?Short Model No? it is listed as fourth from bottom up.

Please check it again.

I have a Satellite C660 laptop that is only a couple of months old and not used too much. I turned it on the other day, but the screen is completely blank. The laptop is making 'bleeping' sounds. One, quite high longish bleep, followed by the same pitch but two bleeps in quick succession. This cylce occurs every 30 seconds or so. It doesn't matter whether it is plugged in or running on the battery, the results are the same. I have also noticed that the machine is not getting that warm. When I had the laptop plugged in earlier I had to leave it for a while to answer the phone. Since it has not been working the laptop has one red light and one green light - none flashing. When I returned after about 10 minutes, both lights had turned to green and the bleeping was the same. I have went through the users manual and have tried the suggestions re: screen contrast, brightness and so on, but nothing is happening. I'm pretty p----d off as the laptop is only a few weeks old as I mentioned earlier.. Any help would be appreciated. PS - it is still under warranty.

Answer:Satellite C660 - No Display

Hello

If your notebook isn?t able to start and makes only some beeping sounds it means that a hardware malfunction was detected. It?s not a software problem so you must contact an authorized service provider and let the guys check your unit for errors.

It?s good that the notebook is still under warranty because such hardware repairs are for free and covered by warranty. So get in contact with your local authorized service provider and ask for help. I?m sure the problem can be clarified with the guys :)

If you go to this page https://forum.toshiba.eu/forumdispla...llite-C-Series there is a link at the top to "post new thread", this will allow you to post your own threads.

Clearly your webcam has not been detected, is there any chance that the wires from the webcam are damaged? was the laptop screen replaced?

Hi,

I've been the owner of a Toshiba Satellite C660 for approximately five days, and I'm already experiencing severe keyboard lag. Like users of the L270 model, and other posters on this forum, the keyboard has dramatically slowed down and letters are being omitted, slowing down the typing process.

I've tried to update my BIOS, as numerous posters have suggested, but my BIOS is bang up to date.

I haven't tried removing the battery or anything like that. Frankly if I have to do that to get my keyboard working properly the computer is going straight back and I'm demanding a refund.

Any ideas?

Answer:Satellite C660 - Several keyboard lag

Hey,

I never saw any L270 users here... As far as I know there is no such a notebook model?

Anyway, that?s really strange and I never heard about such a problem on Satellite C660. In my opinion everything what you can do is updating the BIOS and using preinstalled Windows version. If you can still notice the same behavior, ask the seller for a replacement model.

I agree with new: This shouldn?t happen on a five day old notebook.

Hi
I wonder if someone can assist, the compter has bios win-1.90 issued feb 2012, looked today and they have issued new bios 1.70 dated 1/06/2012.

What gives there is no record of 1.90 version and I guess 1.70 is much earlier ??? and if one does a search on web (non Toshiba site) it shows toshiba 1.90 as latest.

Before anyone ask why do I need need Bios, some times have improvements

Thanks
Tony Miller

Answer:Re: Satellite C660/1J2 and new BIOS

I?ve checked Toshiba support page and you are right. Offered BIOS version is 1.70. I don?t know why lower version number is offered as latest BIOS update.

Anyway, check Toshiba page next days. Maybe newest version will be offered.
But let?s be realistic, if your notebook runs well you don?t need BIOS update. If you don?t have some serious problems don?t change anything.

Hello everybody.
I have a laptop (model in title) that is running into a strange issue. It has happened two days ago: I was trying to turn it on and while I were onto win7 login screen, it suddenly turn off. Apart that fact, that of course is not related to what I'm asking here, when I tried to turn it on again, a white-blinking-dash appears into top-left corner of the screen.

First thing I had in mind: no bootable HDD; basically an error into MBR o something like this?

My first try was to access recovery partition (by pressing F8) but nothing happens. So I've tried also with every possible F{1,2,3,...,12} key but without success. Strange, I've never formatted my laptop, toshiba didn't mount a recovery partition for that model?
Ok, nevermind, as I'm an IT guy and I'm quite skilled, my second try was to create a bootable USB stick with some tool (like partition manager, gparted and so on...) and to boot the utility from there just to check and fix errors (if there are).

With my big surprise, this laptop seems not to be able to boot from USB!

What I've tried:

- Create a stick either with MBR for BIOS and UEFI (FAT32, NTFS)
- Create a stick either with GPT for UEFI (FAT32, NTFS)
- Switch BOOT order in BIOS
- Pressed F12 to select manually USB to boot
- Check for safe mode (that BIOS [1.40] seems not to have that possibility)
- Change to CMS (that BIOS seems not to have that possibility)

So I'm stuck here, wondering why this laptop can't make a normal boo... Read more
