Satellite P855 - need recovery partition properties

Question: Satellite P855 - need recovery partition properties

as I was planning to migrate the HDD to a ssd I resized the windows 8 disk, and then moved the toshiba recovery partition just after the windows 8 system one, but it seems that this move actually changed the properties/id of the partition.

Could you please tell me the SET ID properties for the toshiba recovery partition so I can change it again?
The partition size, content and everything else it's untoched, but when I try to open the recovery tool it says it cannot find the recovery partition.

I know I should not mess up with the partitioning, but I want to change the laptop to a faster disk.

Thanks a lot.

Preferred Solution: Satellite P855 - need recovery partition properties

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite P855 - need recovery partition properties

Hi Nicolas

Now it too late for anything. Partitions structure is changed and you cannot get it back to original state.
Changing HDD to SSD is not the problem but your mistake was that you didn?t create recovery disc or recovery USB media.
After changing HDD to SSD you could use this media to reinstall OS. In this case new recovery partition would be created automatically.

What you need now is recovery disc for clean recovery image installation.

Actually i would like to delete the recovery partition on my new Satellite P855 by using diskpart. Now i have to problems/uncertainty (of course i already created the recovery dvds):

1: Whe i look in Disk Managment on my Windows 8, there are 2 recovery partitions !? one small at the beginning of the disk (450 MB) an one bigger at the end of the disk (8.66 GB). I am a little confused about that. Isn't there usualy only one recovery partition? Are these both recovery partitions from toshiba for windows 8?

2: I read somewhere, that there can occure problems with the system by deleting the recovery partition. is there any risk if i delete the two recovery partitions mentioned above? (besides that i do not have the recovery files on the harddisk anymore) Could this affect the stability or the ability of the system?

As I don't want to risk, that i crash my system, i hope someone knows about this!

Thank you guys

Answer:Satellite P855 and Win8 - would like to delete the recovery partition

And why you want to delete the recovery partition?
Its better to leave it as it is in cases you would like to recover the notebook back to factory settings.

I assume one has been created by Win 8. it contains files to repair the system in cases something would be wrong? the last partition seems to be from Toshiba containing the recovery image files.

Deleting the Toshiba partition should not (usually) affect the notebook system ability but nevertheless you should create a recovery disk BEFORE deleting anything on the HDD.
The recovery disk would allow you to go back to factory settings in cases the system would be muddled up.

If there is some problem you must talk with store where you have bought it. Where you have ordered this recovery disc?

When I first got this product, before opening I thought that all the 500gb would go to the first partition, but then I saw that the recovery partition has half of the 500gb just for recovery which is unnessecery.

But I had no problem with this at the time, and used the recovery partition(after saving to a disk) for ubuntu so I could have a dual boot.

But now I've came to realise that the games I'm downloading are taking more and more room up on my C drive. The problem I have is that I can shrink my recovery partition and enlarge the C drive.

Does anyone know a work around?

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-225: Shrinking recovery partition englarge C partition

You will need an 3rd party software to shrink the recovery partition and to add the free space the existing C partition.
I would recommend you an freeware tool called Gparted

But before you would start doing this, create a recovery disk!
This is advisable in case you would try to set the notebook back to factory settings using such disk.

Hello, I've used the recovery media creator to create a USB flash drive recovery media.

If i then use that to restore the Windows 7 installation onto a new hard drive (as SSD) will that drive itself have the recovery media partition on it?

So if I then lose the USB stick could I restore again by holding down zero when powering on?

Or does it recover the Windows partition and nothing more?

Thank you

I recently bought a Satellite Pro L850-1UJ with Windows 8

I've created a new partition (so i could use it as data room)
i.e. C: the windows system AND Z: my data

after that, i could NOT use the RECOVERY MEDIA CREATOR to create the recovery dvds
BUT the partition still exists and i can see the inside files from windows

IS IT a way to extract the files from the recovery partition or any other clue how i could fix the partition scheme so the RECOVERY MEDIA CREATOR could recognize it

Many thanks for your time...

Answer:Satellite Pro L850-1UJ: How create recovery DVDs from recovery partition

After changing HDD partitions structure it happens that ?Toshiba recovery media creator? cannot find recovery files. These files are marked with special markers that in your case cannot be found anymore.

I?m afraid now is too late to do or change anything. You are not the first one with this problem. We always write here that first step should be recovery media creation and later you can do whatever you want. You can even delete it.

Now you can just order new recovery disc at

Talk about confusing. Does anyone know how to get a Toshiba C660 working after the HDD has failed and the owner has stupidly NOT followed the instructions to make a recovery disk. Will the recovery disk ( if you purchase one from Toshiba ) rebuild the new HDD along with a new recovery partition and install windows 7 (original OS ) and accept the product key printed on the Windows License attached to the base of the laptop. I have read a number of suggestions but these have been deemed incorrect by others.

Surely Toshiba must have a way of sorting this problem.

Do they read these posts ?

Answer:Satellite L660-12Q - Would recovery disk rebuild the new HDD along with a new recovery partition

Hi buddy?

I don?t think that this is really complicated? I could find all info regarding the recovery procedure in the user manual?

The recovery disk has to be created at the first day of purchase? its recommended to create one in cases something would be wrong with the HDD.

The recovery disk contain an image?. Image is a package containing Win system, drivers, tools and all the stuff preinstalled on the notebook.
You purchased the notebook and the system was already activated so you don?t need the key placed at the bottom of the unit.
Furthermore the usage of recovery disk formats the whole HDD (partitions too) and set the notebook back to the same state like at the first day of purchase.

There is also another option to recover the notebook called HDD recovery. This HDD recovery does not need recovery disk. Usage of HDD recovery would format ONLY the C (system) partition.

I just purchased a brand new laptop and have realised that it didn't come with a recovery disc or a recovery partition on the hard drive.

Just wondering if my hard disc crashes how am i supposed to reinstall windows?
The laptop i bought is a Toshiba satellite L500 and is only a few weeks old.

If anyone could help on the subject would be very much appreciated.

Answer:Satellite L500 - No recovery disc or recovery partition - How to reinstall?

Normally if I buy a new notebook or other product I read the user manual firstly. So I would recommend that you should the same before you ask different questions.

The point is that you have to create a Toshiba recovery disk yourself. Therefore start the recovery disk creator that is preinstalled on your notebook and follow the screen instructions. I recommend a high quality DVD-R medium to create this disk.

Furthermore you can reinstall Windows using the HDD recovery option. On the second partition you can find this folder that contains an image of factory settings and you can start this feature if you go in advanced boot menu and select ?repair my computer?. This is not a special partition, only a folder where the image is stored.

HDD recovery procedure is the same as Toshiba recovery disk. You get back factory settings too but the recovery disk wipes the whole HDD. The HDD recovery only the first partition.

By the way: Normally you did get this message:

+your system is equipped with hard disk recovery system. if you need to repair+
+your computer by restoring it to original factory state, you can do it directly+
+from harddisk (press F8 when you boot your computer, choose "Repair your computer"+

Hi everybody.
I bought my computer about a year ago and i have lots of problems since that time. My main problem is with graphic driver. When I left my computer a while, my screen is getting darker and never opening again. I have to force shutdown. Nowadays I am getting a message like " the graphic driver stopped working". I checked my driver is up-to-date.

Anyway, I have billion more problems. But it is the biggest one. If there is anyone who can help me, I will be so thankful!! because I'm so tired of these problems.

Answer:Several issues on Satellite P855-33N

It is not easy to say what is wrong there especially after one year of usage. In my opinion you should back-up all your data and install original recovery image.
Start to use notebook with ?factory settings? again. I hope everything will be ok.

I use my notebook with preinstalled recovery image and after almost a year I get few times the same error message - ?display driver has stopped working?. If I?m remembering well it happened in moment when I have used YouTube in my Chrome browser.

Maybe it sounds stupid but I don't care much about that. After few seconds river is recovered and everything works as usual.

Anyway, I recommend you to reinstall your machine and watch how it works.
By the way: you wrote that your display driver is up-to-date. Do you use drive from Toshiba download page or driver from GPU manufacturer support page?

Hi guys

My laptop when I play gets really hot. I have switched thermal paste but it?s the same. I think it was when I update bios to 6.7.
Can you give me the original BIOS for him pls? :( I can?t really play with this. In first year pc was so good but after he gets really hot. pls help me :(

Answer:Need BIOS for Satellite P855-10G

Every BIOS offered on Toshiba download page is original BIOS. What you probably want to have is old BIOS version. Problem is that offered BIOS versions on Toshiba download page are latest versions only.
What you can try is to contact nearest Toshiba service provider in your country, explain the situation and ask if they can obtain it for you. They must have access to drivers/BIOS database and I think they can get it for you.

At the end please be so nice and tell me why you have updated BIOS?
Have you noticed some problem with your machine or the reason was just feeling to have latest version installed on your machine?

I ask this because many people update everything possible although there is no reason for that and later post here about different issues.

Bought cheap BD 3D 'The Universe' as a test and it has sturred a couple of times but now wont play.

Really want this for BIM (Building Information Modelling) so will try to find/ generate some models.

Would be nice to try films though.

Answer:Satellite P855-10G and 3D issue

What?s wrong with 3D?
The Satellite P855-10G supports an glasses-free 3D TFT High Brightness display with LED backlighting. So its 3D compatible.

There should be a 3D button in front of the notebook.
Pressing this button enable and disable the 3D function. Also the buttons allows you to enable the 2Dto3D conversion using the Toshiba Video Player.

To play the BD in 3D you have to use the other player called Toshiba Bluray disk player.

Furthermore before watching 3D on the internal display you have to remove the covering of the webcam panel. The webcam scans your position which is needed to get the glasses free 3D working.

You should also consider that the 3D is only supported in two resolutions:
1920x1080 at 24Hz or 1280x720 at 60Hz

According to the user manual the glasses free 3D mode may be enabled except for Toshiba Bluray disk player and games. At this time you need to disable the glasses free 3D mode by unchecking the ?enable stereoscopic 3D?

I have a Satellite P855-307 running Windows 7 64-bit and I have bought several new Blu-ray movies/shows, only to have the Blu-ray drive and Blu-ray player absolutely refuse to play them.

Examples of fail to play: (All are region B disks or region free discs)

I have played a couple of recent Blu-ray discs which are not produced by Hollywood studios - so the hardware itself is functioning and in any case DEVICE MANAGER shows no fault for the PIONEER BDC-TD04S.

Windows 7 64-bit is up to date.
P855-307 BIOS is up to date.
Nvidia display driver is up to date.

Graphics driver on the Toshiba site is ancient and downloading the 4000 driver from IBM is not allowed to proceed, telling me to download from Toshiba when running the executable.

Toshiba Blu-ray player is up to date (1.05.207)

Answer:Satellite P855-307 won't play new Blu-ray disks

Do you use original recovery image (original Win7 64bit) that you got with your notebook?

I mean original preinstalled OS contains all original drivers and BD software so there should not be problems watching BD movies.

I use Satellite P500 with original recovery image and there is no problem watching BD using original preinstalled WinDVD BD player.

One of these TV is a Toshiba TV with REGZA-Link.

I've tried to look for new drivers but no luck so far.

Can you eject the inserted disk pressing the eject button?

If it?s not possible, I believe that the CD/DVD drive is faulty? that?s pity but since the notebook is new, you could replace this under the warranty conditions.

Hi everyone, first time here for me.

I recently bought a Satellite P855-34K laptop, with UEFI, and I'm finding impossible to boot with UEFI set into CSM mode when using USB sticks or CDs/DVDs.
And yes, I obviously DID disable Secure Boot and switched to CSM boot in UEFI's setup.

Fast boot has always been disabled, too.
I tried to toggle USB3.0/2.0 and the activation of USB in sleep mode, no way.
Plus, that would make a difference for USB only, as I said optical media don't boot either.

All medias (USB sticks and optical) work flawlessly on other computers, and don't support UEFI (so CSM booting is a must for me). I even tried two USB sticks on another, fairly recent, Toshiba laptop of a friend of mine (can't remember the model right now), and CSM boot worked flawlessly on that (I obviously needed to toggle the Secure Boot and UEFI/CSM boot options).

Do note that USB sticks set up for UEFI boot DO work. In fact I have two OSes on my HDD, both set to boot via UEFI, and I installed the second OS with a UEFI stick.

One more interesting fact: UEFI setup (F2 at boot) displays USB sticks make and model correctly. UEFI boot menu (F12 at boot) DOESN'T do that in CSM mode, but DOES in UEFI mode (obviously sticks won't boot in UEFI).

I tried to search both on this forum and on Google, and I wasn't able to find an answer.

Talking with Toshiba webform and phone support (and after going with them through every single UEFI/BIOS option and finding everything fine)... Read more

Answer:Satellite P855-34K can't boot in CSM mode from USB or ODD

Unfortunately I don't have this notebook model and cannot confirm if such issue is present on other machines but in my opinion this case is for service centre. It is not known to me that there is some work around. Either it works or not.

I know it is always problematic to send machine to the service and wait but I don't see other option for you especially if you are alone with this issue. Waiting here to find out if anyone else has the same problem will not help you much.

In my opinion there is no some ?general? problem with whole P855 series so I don't think Toshiba will release some ?fix?. Usually such big problems will be detected in short period of time and fixed by BIOS updates.

Hi all. I think I already know the answer but I guess some extra advice won't hurt.

Did some work on my laptop a couple of days ago, when finished I played The Sims 4 for about an hour. Had my laptop on a stand on a tray so it was elevated for air flow etc and fans weren't blocked. Turned it off and a little later I went to go back to my work. Pressed the power button and the power button lights up, I hear the fans kick in bit my screen is complete black. I don't even get the Toshiba logo.

It will be 3 years old in March 2016.

I've tried various things online... Taking the battery out, various button presses, tried an external monitor but nothing is working.

Is all hope lost? Thanks in advance, Emma.

Hello all
I have a big problem with my P855-10G and need your help,

Yesterday i had no applications open, no program running, only chrome was running on facebook page, and with no reason the 3d dispaly function turns on and since that moment i cant turn it off.

I already try this to turn it off:
1? press the 3d button and nothing happens
2 go to task manager and close SDManifoldsComEx.exe (superd spd2900gs software for 3d display) and nothing
3? shutdown pc remove battery and ac connector and turn on but 3d display get immediately on
4? remove ssd and use my original hdd with fresh windows installation and 3d display dont turn off
5? start pc without sdd and hdd and go into bios and notice that already bios are displayed on 3d (wtf is this possible?)
6? try to modify my scren resolution because i now that 3d only work on 1920x1080 and what i discover? on my laptop 3d works on 900x600 (impossible)
7? restart again and go to bios (maybe i can turn it off on bios but cant find any option for that) and try to restore the default settings and nothing happens
8? go to nvidia control panel and turn off stereoscopy 3d and apply changes
9? go to nvidia web site and download and install the last driver version (350.12 to 353.06)

What can i try more to turn it off?

thanks any hellp

Some News:

10? I play a 3d supported game and noticed that in game i can use the 3D Key and can disable 3D but only in-game, after that i can press the Windows key and minimize the game and the 3d display function stay disabled, but the game have to be running. and i noticed that the infrared face recognizer at both sides of webcam was all this time disabled only after pressing the 3d key it goes on and 3g function goes off (its a progress)

11? uninstall and reinstall SuperD Software
12? made a BIOS update to the latest version
13? Format c:, I know that it dont solve my problem because i try a different hdd, but i have to try it

14? After formating c: i find out that i can open a 3d photo with 3D VISION photo viewer from Nvidia and then press the 3d key to turn it off, but if i close the photo it go enabled again. its better to have constantly a photo viewer open instead of a game

Its a big progress for me because i can use the laptop again and only have to run a photo viewer, but now i know that this problem is more seriously that i think at the beginning because it is not a software problem that means it can only be a hardware problem.

What can i try more to turn it off?

Visit Toshiba EU driver page (2nd link in your post)
Here you need to download the Flash Cards Support Utility v1.51.8.1C for Win 8 64bit and Toshiba Function Key Utility v1.00.6625.02 for Win 8 64bit

By the way: how do you try to use the Fn buttons?
To use the function buttons you don?t need to press Fn + F key but just an F key.
But you can go back to traditional two key FN key combination by making a change in the BIOS or the HWSetup.

My P855-34Q was bought in 2015. I used it for a couple of weeks, then got a laptop from work. The Toshiba has been kept since then in a drawer in my living room. Dry, no temperature swings, dust free. Same place where I keep my work laptop and where my husband keeps his 10 year old Toshiba. This week, I needed it for some virtualization (which my laptop from work nor my husband's laptop is good for)

Took it out, put the battery in, plugged the AC in and connected it to the power net. I got an orange charging light.

I tapped the power button: White light in the button, white light on the front panel (next to the charging light). But after only two or three seconds, the light on the power button and on the front, goes out again. Nothing appears on the screen, no beeps, no sounds of fan or hard drive.

This same behavior presents after I tried the following steps:

- Measured the voltage on my CMOS battery. It was only 2,14V, so too low. When the laptop is charging though, the voltage on the CMOS battery climbs tot 2,68V.

- Left it to charge until the charging light was white, indicating fully charged. Turned it on, same behavior.

- Took the battery out and measured its output. Normal output voltage

- Measured the output on the AC adapter. I measure a voltage of 19,38 Volts, so normal.

- Without battery, only connected through the AC adapter, tried turning it on. Same behavior.

- Without the battery, and without AC feed, I held down the power bu... Read more

Answer:Satellite P855-10G battery discharges even powered off

This can happens if some option in BIOS are enabled.
For example: the enabled Wake Up on LAN / Wake up on keyboard options could be the reason for the battery discharge issue.

In such case you would need to disable this. Save changes and check if it worked.

I was having a problem with my geforce gt 630m (error code 43), and for some reason i had the brilliant ideia to update the bios (stupid me), I downloaded the bios update from toshiba offical site (6.80-WIN) as you can see in the image below (bios updates froms toshiba official site):;

During the process of installation, it looked very normal, until it reboots, after that, rebooted some more times, and finaly the black screen pc.. Tried entering the bios in the boot process (nothing).

I searched the forum, and found similar issues that gave me same ideas to resolve the problem (crisis bios recovery ), but I don't know who is my bios manufacturer, as I also don't know if was made a back up of the previous bios. Also don't know the combination keys for recovering the bios.

So, anyone? (HELLPPP!!!!)

note: I can't access the files on the HDD

What happen exactly when you press power button?
Can you see Toshiba welcome screen?

Any sign of life?

Hi everyone,

I have bought the Toshiba Satellite P855-10G, but i?m terrified because he runs out of battery even when turned off..
Anyone knows how can i solve the issue?

Best regards,

Answer:Satellite P855-10G runs out of battery even when turned off

Access the BIOS and turn OFF the options like: Waking up on LAN and Keyboard.
In Toshiba HW Setup I recommend disabling the USB Sleep and Charge function as well?

Both enabled options might allow discharging the battery even if the unit is OFF

I purchased a new laptop Toshiba Satellite P855-10H recently and there was no problem. Yesterday (12th Aug. 2012) I saw a Toshiba center warning there is update dated 01st Aug. 2012 for BIOS and, followed all instructions until reboot time. Laptop didn't reboot after all process succesfully finished.

Closed and now I can't start it. Downloded the latest bios file into a usb from the support site but because it is exe file, I couldn't use it also.

Any suggestions to save my new laptop?

Hello, I am a new member here so lease be gentle

I currently have a P855 which i think the HDD is starting to fail. I have already got a new SSD with Windows 7 Ultimate installed which I can replace with but I am just wondering if I will have to install all the toshiba drivers again?
Also, if I need to can I put the old toshiba HDD back in for future reference if needed with no problems?

I am not that technically savvy so figured I would ask here to make sure I would be doing no harm.

Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite P855 - adding new Windows installed SSD

Best and easiest way for you is to create original recovery media (DVD or USB) using preinstalled Toshiba recovery media creator tool. After doing this you can exchange HDD with new SSD and use this disc to install original recovery image.

Recovery image contains Windows OS and all necessary drivers, tools and utilities so you must not install anything additionally.

If you have more questions feel free to ask.

As a student I have access to a free version of Windows 8.1 64-bit, so I wanted to try it, but I'm not sure about which drivers to choose. My computer data are these:

Toshiba Satellite P855-30M

For example if I choose "display driver" and Language "italian" I get three options:

-display driver from nVidia, 18/10/13, version 306,37
-display driver from nVidia, 18/10/13, version
-display driver from Intel, 29/10/13, version

Which is the correct one? If I have the same problem in panels other than "display driver", how can I pick the correct one?

Answer:Need correct Win8.1 drivers for my Satellite P855-30M

I have checked Toshiba download page on and your notebook model PSPKBE is supported for Win8.1 update and for Win8.1 64bit OS (if you make clean OS installation).

Fact is that you must install Intel and NVIDIA driver. Toshiba offers two NVIDIA drivers and, I think, one of them is for 3D model. In my opinion you must install version
Do it, you cannot do something wrong.

Hi everyone.

Recently bought a Satellite P855-31K(PSPKBE) machine. When problems with discreet
GeForce GT 630M arose, went to Toshiba's support site to check for some drivers, only to find out that my machine is just not listed.Neither by entering my s.n.,nor trying to autodetect,it gives me "sorry, your model could not be found".
It is my 5th Toshiba notebook, and never did I experience such a problem.
Guys, maybe someone has any idea of what a heck is this?
Actually,I could have put up with it,if everything had been OK,but that bloody GT 630M would't run at all, either going to BSOD,or running extremely slow with a lot of artefacts on the screen, and all of it straight after launching any 3D application-no overheating involved.

Please help...
BTW,online warranty registration DID accept my serial No.

Answer:Satellite P855-31K cannot be found on support site

Hello everybody,

on 7th December Toshiba provided a BIOS-Update for the P855 series. The former version of the BIOS-update was 1.90 and suddenly there was a 6.40 available for downloading... I checked the compatibility more twice and everything (Toshiba's info on the supported models etc etc) looked good. So I applied it and that went without any errors - but the notebook was dead afterwards!!! Display was dark and there was no reaction any more...

As you can see - version 1.90 can't be followed by 6.40. The numbers just don't make sense - but I knew I had the chance to give it back to the vendor and get a new one (it was just 2 days after I originally bought it) so I took the risk and tried it.

It seems as if Toshiba has provided an BIOS-update in the download area that does definitely not fit the model - at least not this one.

Note for Toshiba:
PLEASE FIX THAT ASAP AND HIDE THIS UPDATE!!! Otherwise a lot of users will update and damage their systems!! Please take more care which BIOS-update you provide for which machine/series!!! Your customers trust you!! Providing a wrong driver is the one thing - providing a non-fitting BIOS-update is quite another dimension of problem!

Answer:BIOS-Update to 6.40 crashes a Satellite P855-102

I wondered about such high version number too and therefore I contacted the service guy in my country for the explanation.
The BIOS version is 6.40 because this is the BIOS released also for Win 8
This is the reason why there is a big jump from 1.90 to 6.40
So the release is ok.

Furthermore if the BIOS would NOT be compatible with your notebook, you could not follow the update. Usually the update would be interrupted if the notebook model would not match with the BIOS version.

I don?t know why the BIOS update procedure did not work smoothly in your case but usually you should always ensure that NO processes are running in the background while BIOS update. Furthermore you should disable all firewalls, antivirus and malware software and should delete BIOS/ USER passwords before running such update.

The Toshiba Blu-ray Disc Player is no longer recognising or playing Hollywood movie Blu-ray discs.

The recent Hollywood movie Blu-ray discs play in both my Pioneer HDD-Recorder/Blu-ray player and play on my PS3, so therefore the blu-ray discs are fine.

I can play non-Hollywood Blu-ray movies on my Satellite P855 (eg "In The Shadow of the Moon") so therefore the Blu-ray Disc unit on the satellite P855 is functioning.

This also indicates that the Toshiba Blu-ray Disc Player software can function, so something else is prohibiting the operation.

Toshiba Blu-ray Disc Player version - 1.05.207.
Blu-ray region is B and 5 changes remain (never has been changed).

There is no firmware update on the Toshiba support site for the Pioneer BD-ROM BDC-TD04S.
Satellite P855-307 is running the original OS (Win 7 HP 64-bit).

Reading the Toshiba Blu-ray Disc Player Readme mentions AACS key renewal, though I see no means mentioned anywhere by which this is done.

Corel's WinDVD is of no assistance as a player as the trial version of WinDVD 11 just recognises the Intel HD4000 graphics.

Cyberlink's PowerDVD trial version is also unable to play Hollywood movie Blu-ray discs but will play non-Hollywood movies such as "In the Shadow of the Moon".

Answer:Satellite P855-307 is not playing recent Blu-ray discs

It looks like you have problem playing only some particular BD-disks.

I?m not quite sure about your problem but from my point of view there might be a BD drive firmware issue. Unfortunately, Toshiba driver page does not provide any firmware updates for the BD drive therefore you will not be able to try a firmware update.

I don?t think there is a problem with the playback software (Toshiba Blu-ray disk player) because it looks like you are already using the latest available Toshiba Blu-ray Disc Player version So the software is already up to date.

However, the freeware VLC player software/tools support the BD disks too and play almost all file standards and formats.
Would recommend you to test such tool just to check out if the issue would persist even using such utility.

I do not even know how to figure out what wireless device I have.

Does somebody know if there is a driver package existing somewhere in the net which makes all the necessary updates to the driver necessary on my laptop?

Answer:Satellite P855-10L doesn't work mSATA SDD

As far as I know the P850/P855 series does not support mSATA SSD.
If you want to use the SSD drive, you have to replace the HDD with an SSD drive.
The P855/P850 accommodates a S-ATA 2.5"/7.0mm SSD with the 256GB and 512GB storage capacities.

By the way: how is the connector marked which you used to connect the mSATA?
Is it marked as JPCIF??? This is an miniPCI connector designed for 3G or WiMAX.

Hello together,
I am new in this forum and I have a problem with my Satellite P85532V.
May be anybody can help
My Notebook works allways properly. After a changing the HDD to an SDD I get the following problem.
The first time i had a big delay from pushing the power button until the TOSHIBA screen (betwen 3 and 15 Min. ). Now Iam lucky if it starts.
I tried the the following steps
- remove all external Parts
- remove HDD/SDD
- remove Memory
- remove BIOS Accu for more than 5 minutes.
- remove ACCU and using the Power adapter
After I removed all the parts, the BIOS starts after a long time ( 15 Mn. ).
Setting the BIOS to default values. All OK, no errors.
Next steps
- assemble all parts again,
- start the notebook again
- same error,long delay or don't start
- If I came to the point with the TOSHIBA Screen, the noteboke works properly !
- if I check the system with the WIN 10 tools, no error found.

Thank you for your help.

Have a nice day.

Best regards

I have a new Toshiba Satellite P855 model but cannot get the inbuilt ROM drive to read/recognise 3" disks from my Sony Handycam Camcorder.

My previous Aspire Laptop reads them all right (as did former Laptops) and currently have to use the Acer to import Video Footage onto a Hard Drive.

If I connect the Sony Camcorder direct to the Toshiba Laptop (via USB port) it still wont recognise the disk if I put it back in there.

The Toshiba is using W8 software whereas on the Acer and other previous models I was using Windows7, but I can't see how this would make a difference.

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to get my Toshiba to read my Camcorder disks?

Apologies if this topic has been previously covered - this is my 1st post on this particular Forum and I did a search on the topic before making this post but nothing came up.

*PS.* When I put a 3" disk in the drive it keeps trying to read it (from the sound I hear) but eventually gives up.

*PS2:* I may have solved the problem - sometimes you just can't see the Wood for the Trees.
It appears on the Toshiba (under Windows 8) the disk has to be finalised before it can be read - whereas on other Laptops (running Windows7) it does not.

The Flash Card Utility on my laptop does not work anymore since a couple a months. I used to able to for example just press F12 to switch the WiFi on or off. I would than also see the card at the top of the screen, showing the pictogram of the WiFi being turned on/off.

However, this does not work anymore.
If I now press on F12, it just work as F12.
I need to press both the Fn and F12 key to switch the WiFi on or off.
I also don't see the pictograms at the top of the screen anymore.

When I click on Start>All programs>Toshiba>Tools & Utilities>Flash cards, I can change the settings.

However, whatever I try, it won't work.

Don?t forget to save the changes made in BIOS before leaving the BIOS settings.

How can i make my 630m default and disable intel?
I wanted to install latest nvidia driver 301.42 but could not. why?

Answer:Satellite P855 How to set nVidia GPU to default graphic card

The nVidia GPU supports the Optimus technology.
This technology switches automatically between the nVidia (external GPU) and Intel HD GPU (internal GPU).

Its possible to set a the GPU to a single program. For example you can choose the graphic card which has to be used by a game or picture editing software.

So can force and single application to run and to use the nVidia GPU.
This can be done in the nvidia control panel.

1. Click Start and then Control Panel. Select Classic View from the left side of the window.
2. Double-click NVIDIA Control Panel.
3. Click View and next Add "Run with graphics processor" Option to Context Menu. Close the NVIDIA Control Panel.
4. Right-click the application title and select Run with graphics processor. Then, click High-performance NVIDIA processor.

While I'm listening on spotify or seing a movie, theres a small lag every 10 or 20 minute.
I bought this laptop 3 days ago and haven't used it that much. Any idea how I can fix this?

Could it be something wrong in the hardware?

Answer:Satellite P850/P855 - Sound/Image lag while using media

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what the problem is but, to be honest I don?t think it is hardware related issue.

Maybe this small lag is result of some background activities. I don?t know how you have configured your notebook and what is running in the background but you can make test and sop some useless background activities before you start video player.

Which antivirus do you use?

i had problems with the touchpad constantly crashing so decided to do a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium which the laptop originally came with.

after lots of failed attempts and lots of research in driver order the touchpad problem still occurs no matter what i do.

i got an order of drivers installs from someone on this forum and followed with the software i wanted on the notebook.
still the touchpad either does not work at all or fails after about an hour or so of use. along with the occasional keyboard fail.

after the last 2 re-installs the touchpad did not work at all and luckily i could use a wireless mouse to trouble shoot but still nothing.
this is the first Toshiba I have ever owned and TBH if this is what I have to look forward to it will most certainly be the last.

Answer:Satellite P855-307 PSPKBE: Windows 7 fresh install problems

I?m sorry to hear that.
I think hardware malfunctions happens simple and mostly it?s no matter what notebook you have. My parents bought an notebook from another manufacturer and it died after two day of usage. But of course the notebook was fixed under warranty conditions.

However, I?m not quite sure if your issue is hardware or software related and therefore the unit should be recovered using the Toshiba Recovery disk. Did you create such disk in the past? You have created such disk, use it in order to set the notebook back to factory settings.
Usually in case of software issue, the recovery disk should fix it.

But of course, it could be hardware problem. I?m thinking about this option because you said that the notebook crashed constantly. Furthermore you said that the keyboard did not work too.
The keyboard driver is part of the system as well as the standard touchpad driver. So even if the Synaptics touchpad driver would not be installed, the notebook would use the standard MS driver.

So finally it sounds a little bit like hardware issue but of course, you will clarify this using the recovery disk.

I recently bought my first Toshiba laptop and after a few tries with W8, I would like to downgrade it to the previous version, of which I own a valid license of the Pro edition.

I checked which wlan card i had installed (my "PC Information" is below) and downloaded all 44 files available from support.

I updated the bios to 6.50, loaded the default values, changed the "secure boot" to disable and also changed the "boot mode" to csm boot. This allowed me to install W7.

I start installing the drivers: chipset, Intel display driver, Intel Management Engine Interface, Rapid Storage Technology Driver and some more and that's when things start to get ugly - some drivers aren't supported by W7, the nvidia drivers don't recognize the video card, upon reboot after installing some of the drivers windows starts to complain and tries to repair things. A mess.

Did I mess the order of the installs? If so, can anyone post the correct procedure? There are 44 files, some with names like "Toshiba System Driver", "Registry Patch"... I don't know when to install these, plus some of the other files don't have an accurate description.

If W7 can not run correctly on this machine I will have to upgrade it W8 Pro (as I need remote desktop), and again will have to install all drivers, so the correct order to install the drivers and utilities is still very much needed.

Thanks in advance for any helpful input.

I?ve checked Toshiba download page and I can find drivers, tools and utilities for Windows8 only.
Where you have found 44 files for Win7?

All you can try is to use Win7 drivers for older model with similar hardware platform.
The same chipset and graphic card has Satellite P850 (PSPKBE) and it was delivered with Win7.

Test it please and send some feedback.

I had two partitions at my HD (Satellite L30-114).

I used the Toshiba recovery Cd to restore windows at my laptop. The CD did not offered me any Full or Expert modes as written here It just recovered without any input from my side!

After recovery, Windows does not see my second partition. I used disk management utility and it says there are 17 GB of unassigned disk space (this is my second Partition!).

Can and how can I restore it?

Tx a lot!

Answer:Partition lost after recovery - Satellite L30

It seems that the L30 was delivered with a new version of recovery cd.
I think the Recovery procedure is a little bit different as the old one with the 2 different recovery modes (standard and expert)

I know a little bit about the new recovery procedure because a friend of mine bought a new Satellite with this recovery CD. He asked me for the notebook installation and we have checked it.

It seems that you have to press the ?Setting? button after choosing the language.
If you don?t use the ?setting? button for the configuration so the recovery procedure will delete and erase everything on the HDD. I think you didn?t configure the settings and therefore all partitions were deleted.

Unfortunately I think there is no much to do. You partition was deleted and it?s not possible to bring back the lost data.

I have a Sattelite L500/nb I purchased in december.
I attempted to perform a HD wipe and system recovery the other day and it seems the recovery partition has been corrupted.
On boot the system states error: F3-F100-0004 and then shuts down on 'ok'

Can I obtain recovery cd's for this system?

How do I fix this?

Just bought an NB550D-109.
Pretty happy with it, but I do have a couple of questions though.
Is there a reason the recovery partition, labled Data, is half the size of the drive?

Can this partition be resized to give more storage without compromising the recovery wizard?

Are all the Toshiba utilities interdependant, or can the ones that I don't use be uninstalled?
Or should I leave them installed and just disable them from startup?

Answer:Satellite NB550D-109 - Recovery partition

> Is there a reason the recovery partition, labled Data, is half the size of the drive?
To be honest I don?t understand your question. Recovery partition is about 10 GB and recovery image is about 8GB so I don?t understand what do you mean with ?half the size of the drive?.
> Can this partition be resized to give more storage without compromising the recovery wizard?
At the moment I?m not able to give you proper answer. Open ?Disc management? option, make a screen shot and let us see the partitions structure. Then I will be able to discuss about all partitions.
At the moment I can say one thing only: do not change anything. Changing partitions structure HDD recovery installation can be cancelled.
> Are all the Toshiba utilities interdependant, or can the ones that I don't use be uninstalled?
Some of them can be uninstalled but I don?t know which of them you don?t need.
Let us know which of them you want to remove from the system.

One more thing: don?t make too many experiments before you have created recovery USB disc.
Please read Toshiba?s user?s manuals and pick up info about recovery installation and recovery USB disc creation.

I've noticed that many Toshiba notebooks have hidden partition and DVD Recovery either. I don't have hidden partiotion, only Recovery DVD. Does it normal?

Answer:Satellite M70 - No hidden recovery partition

Yes it is normal. For this old notebook model Toshiba didn?t create ?recovery partition?. Satellite M70 is delivered with recovery DVD.

Newest notebook models are delivered without recovery DVD media but with recovery image saved on second partition and every notebook owner can create recovery CD/DVD alone.

Will the windows license installed on the old hard drive still be operational with the new hard drive?

Hi All,

First, I have read tons of messages within this support site and then decided to open a thread.

My Notebook Model Nr: P35-S6112
Recovery DVD Code: TK143/PMAE00127012
Os: Windows Xp Home Edition

I am trying to re-install the sytem with two disk partitions but no chance. Recovery DVD (procedure) doesn't provide me any option to separate the hard disk in two different partitions as commonly known as C and D when re-installing the system.

Many support experts claim that during installation two install modes appears and (Expert Mode) allows the user to divide the hard disk in partitions.

Please let me explain how do I re-install.
A-) I simply put the recovery dvd in the drive and boot from dvd drive.

B-) First black screen comes and asks my confirmation to proceed for recovery (F1 means yes.)

C-) Then second screen appears with two warnings as decribed below.
1-) Ensure that the recovery CD/DVD is in the CD/DVD drive.
2-) Keep the CD/DVD in the drive until you are asked to rremove it.
To continue press (C). To abort press (A) ?

D-) Then I select (C) and recovery procedure starts without asking me if I wish to separate disk in different partitions. So, installation finishes and creates one whole C: drive.

I would like to know if this partioning feature is included in recovery DVD or should I pay for some additional software to separate my hard disk in two poor partitions?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer:How to partition the HDD using Recovery CD - Satellite P35-S6112

Recovery procedure for European notebook models is very well known to me but I believe you have an US notebook model. Unfortunately I didn?t saw how it works for US notebooks but I presume it must be similar to European models.

Anyway if you say that you can not use expert mode installation I believe you. If there is no way to use recovery media I recommend you to use Partition Magic software. It is very powerful software and using it you can manage HDD and create own partitions or change the capacity of already persisting partitions.

Good luck!

Answer:Satellite L850 and recovery partition

This recovery partition belongs to OS itself and has nothing to do with Toshiba recovery partition. If the recovery partition is deleted you cannot get it back.
Only thing you can do is to reinstall recovery image and use notebook with “factory settings” again.

In my opinion only option for you now is to order original recovery installation media -

I recently recover my laptop L650 using the hdd method. Then somehow now I only have one partition and the recovery partition is gone.

On the first day I got my laptop, I already burned the recovery DVD. So I still can do the recovery in the future.

However, I still want my recovery hdd partition back.

Is there any procedures I can follow to make a recovery partition?

Answer:Satellite L650: recovery partition is gone

You cannot ?install? recovery partition.
When you use HDD method for OS installation that means recovery partition exists already and after recovery procedure cannot be deleted or removed.

It can be just ?Hidden? and you will not see it in Windows Explorer.

When you use recovery DVD the same will happen again.

Open disc management and check if one partition with around 10GB will be listed there. It must be recovery partition.

I have just created my two recovery DVDs for my new computer and I want to know if I still need my 113GB partition on my computer?

Answer:Re: Satellite A300-27H? Do I need HDD Recovery partition after creating DVD

The Recovery disk would set the notebook back to factory settings? this means that the Recovery disk would format the whole HDD and would create the same partitions like at the first day of purchase? it should create also the HDD recovery partition too?

Therefore in my opinion you could delete it if you don?t want to have such partition on your HDD?

On this partition Windows saves files to restore the computer or to fix problems.

Hi, I just bought a Toshiba Satellite L500D-00F shipping with Windows 7 Home Premium and my OS doesn't work well so I need to boot on the recovery partition but I can't find any way to do so...

The first boot launched the hidden recovery partition and I followed procedure to install the computer's OS.

At one point it would ask me if I wanted 32 bits or 64 bits version of Windows 7, so I just chose the default option (32 bits) because I couldn't find anywhere in the merchant's L500D specifications that is was a 64 bits processor.

After the computer installation, it booted up Windows 7 correctly and I could hear the startup sound, see my desktop for a second and the screen went black, nothing worked at all and I discovered my computer was in fact a 64 bits unit, so that's probably why the video driver won't work correctly, I guess. Everytime I boot my laptop, I see my desktop for a second then it goes black and freezes like that.

Anyway... I want to launch that recovery partition again and reinstall my OS using the 64 bits version.

How can I boot from the recovery partition on my L500D-00F... AND PLEASE don't tell me to hit F8 at boot time, I already tried this and NO I do not have any "Repair" option. The first one is "Safe mode" and there is no such "Repair" or "Recover" option.

I have a friend?s Satellite L350 laptop which I attempted to repair, but the HDD is faulty, so badly I can't create restore disks. I cloned the image partition to another HDD (yes I created 2 partitions) which is a western digital, but for some reason when pressing F8 I can't get into the restore option, but I can on the faulty drive, is this because you have to use a Toshiba HDD only?

Thanks in advance

Answer:Re: Satellite L350-170 - cannot use cloned recovery partition

Hello Chris

It has nothing with Toshiba HDD. This option works when notebook is preinstalled with original recovery image. This with cloned partition will not work and HDD recovery option will not be listed in ?advanced boot options?.

Only when you install recovery image on this new HDD it will works.

One more thing: this old L350 works very good with Win7 32bit so if possible install it instead of using original Vista.

On my Satellite L450D-11V with Windows 7 Premium 64bit, Tempro today indicated there was an important update that replaces the recovery partition with a new one, to get over the problem of an error message on laptops with more than 4GB RAM. Even though I only have 3GB, it says the update is for everyone as you may upgrade to over 4GB in future.

That's all very well, so I downloaded it and tried to run the unpacked .exe, but half way through installation, it stops and tells me the update is only for 64bit versions of Windows 7....which mine is. I've only had it five days, it came with Windows 7 Prem 64bit, and I've definitely not used the 32bit downgrade DVD...and it clearly states "64bit operating system" in My Computer.

Answer:Satellite L450D-11V - Recovery partition update

Which update do you mean exactly? Can you post some informations please like file name, etc.?

Normally there is no recovery partition. There is only a folder called ?HDDrecovery? on the second partition where you can reinstall Windows from this folder. On Vista and Windows 7 there is a hidden partition but it?s the Windows recovery environment and has nothing to do with Toshiba.

Furthermore I don?t use TEMPRO because install the updates manually if it?s necessary.

Answer:I want to Remove the 1.5 GB recovery partition of my Satellite A100-786

why do you want to remove that partition? Because of additional harddisk space you will gain?? For the cost of a really nice and comfortable recovery system which is really good? Postpone, if your system has some serious problems and you want to recover your machine, what will you do then?

So if you are really sure that you want do it, then make it like following described:

Grab a cd-image of the windows-live-cd "UBCD4Win" (, burn it to cd, boot it and modify your partitions with it, should work withour problems.

I am trying to help a friend with their Satellite L505D that had a serious virus issue(s). I was not able to run/install any programs with the virus on it. I used a Microsoft tool to remove the rootkit trojan, but I still had virus issues. I also lost most of the programs on the machine. All the folders were empty (except for some games), so I could not access any tools that way. I could not get the machine to load any Toshiba restore utility by pressing Zero while powering on. I accessed some recovery options using F8 during bootup, and had a link to restore to Toshiba's original setting, but clicking that choice did nothing other than pause for a few seconds. I waited several minutes, clicked it again, rebooted and tried again. Nothing. As a side note, once during all this, the restore partition was visible from explorer.exe. Not before, or since.

So I then Reformated the computer with a Win7 Home Premium 64bit upgrade disk (leaving the restore partition intact), and entered the key for the system. Supprise supprise, it is asking me to activate within 3 days.

My basic question is, can I access that recovery partition in a different manner to attempt to use it? IE copy it's contents, or boot to some comand prompt to log to e:?

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Which utility did you use that gave you that message? Was it the Toshiba HDD recovery utility or windows backup?

You may have deleted the recovery partition. The other one would be the windows page file for virtual memory.

If you have deleted the recovery partition I can't think of an easy way to re-create it that isn't very technical.

You can of course make manual backups using "backup and restore" in the control panel of windows. There you can create a system image, a recovery disk or backup your files.

I would advise you to do this now.

I don?t know which OS do you use but first partition has nothing to do with Toshiba recovery files. First partition is WinRE partition and it belongs to operating system.

Which OS is preinstalled on it?
Is preinstalled OS original OS that you?ve got with your notebook?

PS: I recovered my computer many times with my CD, which probably used my recovery partition.

It looks like the HDD recovery partition is missing?
The first partition 1.46GB is created by Vista automatically and the C partition is the system partition? the HDD recovery partition does not seem to be available?

Did you recover the Vista using the Recover disk or what disk did you use???

If you installed the system using Vista Microsoft disk then this was a big mistake because this has deleted the HDD partition?
