Preferred Solution: Satellite C660-1F1: Where can i purchase the Recovery Media

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi!

I have a laptop from a client, that is a Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-239, and i'm having a strange issue.

The original hard disk failed, and as the laptop is out of warranty, we bought a new hard disk, and ordered the recovery media to this model, from our local toshiba repair assistance.

After the setup copied the files to the disk, the imageX fails when restoring the image files with the error:

"the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable".

The hard disk is new, and i tried also with more 2 hard disks, and also with an external cd-rom drive.

I talked with the support from the local repair assistance, and they told me this occurs because the new hard drive ins't compatible with the recovery media?!

One of the new hard disks i tried, was the exact same model than the original hard disk, and the error still occurs, so the hard disk can't be the problem.

Is there any change of the recovery media is corrupted?

Could also be a motherboard problem?

Thank you

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-239 - Error restoring from recovery media

> Is there any change of the recovery media is corrupted?
Of course this is possible.
In case the HDD is OK, the recovery media could be corrupted.

>Could also be a motherboard problem?
I don?t think so?. I presume the HDD is recognized in BIOS properly and the error message says something about corrupted directory. I guess the disk directory is meaning and I think media should be replaced.

I spend some hours to try to create the recovery disks for my Laptop (Satellite C660-1DG)

It fails on the second DVD halfway. It just hangs. CTRL-ALT-DEL does not work anymore a cold boot is required to start the thing again.

I tried several DVD's but NOGO each time halfway the second DVD it hangs.

I really need to create these recovery DVD's because Im going to upgrade the laptop to run a Windows Server 2012 install for development purposes.

I thought this would take just a minimum amount of time but... of course...

Any thoughs on any way to get this stuff working?

Answer:Satellite C660-1DG - Toshiba Media Creator Recovery fails creating 2nd DVD

I burned just another disk and it was full of validation errors: hundreds.

So I connected my external DVD writer (NEC ND-3500AG) (firmware 2.1A) and took THE SAME DVD and burned it: presto: no problems: 0 validation errors

So I deduce that the internal DVD writer (TSSTcorp TS-L633C) (firmware TF20) is chunky.

I am still in warranty but... is it any use?

Following a pathetic repair job, I had the motherboard replaced.  The repair company installed a non-genuine copy of windows 10 to my HP envy 17-j127cl. When I got it back and it wouldn't work.  They said "sorry the warranty doesn't cover software"  I have tried a factory reset and nothing will work properly.  Do I need to order a HP recovery kit? and If If so, where do I get it?  I cannot get online from that laptop to download anything, and the HP support will not load on it.   When I go to hp support it just loads the model number and information that that model would normally contain.  There is no option to order a recovery kit. Please HELP.TOTALLY FRUSTRATED.

Answer:Do I need to purchase recovery media?

Did it ship originally with Windows 8.1? If so the page to order Recovery Media is here:http://support.hp.com/us-en/mediaorder/hp-envy-touchsmart-17-j100-notebook-pc-series/5425742/model/7... Btw, unless the repair facility used an  HP motherboard same as original board the Recovery Media will not work.

I had a few issues with the motherboard of my W510 and the system was constantly crashing and the service depot replaced the motherboard. Before the replacement motherboard arrived they said that thay temporarily fixed the issue by switching the RAM from the DIMM slots form one side of the motherboard to the other. So thinking that the problem was fixed I tried to run a full factory restore since the constant reboots due to the crashing the windows system files were damaged and didn't start up.Apparently the temporary fix didn't work and the system crashed in the middle of the restore. Now after the replacement motherboard arrived they tried to restore the system again, but it didn't work, maybe because of the crash in the middle of the first restore. They don't have the recovery media for the W510 since they don't distribute the model it in Sri Lanka. When I call the support line they direct me to another business partner and they say that they do not have the media either. So where can I purchase the recovery media from?BTW I have a three year limited warranty, and the motherboard was apparently DOA.

Answer:Where do I purchase W510 recovery media?

These media are distributed by Lenovo service. If is your machine a grey import? you should ask the person whom sold you the machine to get a copy for you from overseas.

Hi there,

I'm hoping someone can help me or knows what to do. I have Satellite C660-15r it was turned off properly but when put back on it came up with start windows normally as if it has been interrupted, I clicked ok to that but instead of loading it has gone to do some sort of recovery only it hasn't been able to complete this and instead has said there is nothing to recover.

It is know stuck at this and will not go any further says to get system admin to log in however its not allowing to log in or do anything apart from shut down and restart, I have been trying to factory reset but it will not work at all I have tried many attempts with 0 and other options i have been told this doesn't work but I can get up f2 and f8 on load up all that works ok but I cannot find any option to be able to factory reset. it gives me options to recover but they take me to the same screen with no improvements and safe mode will not work.

I hope someone can help me I will be so grateful.

Thank you in advance.

Answer:Satellite C660-15r stucks and no recovery possible

At first I must say that recovery option is available if notebook has ?factory settings?. After reading your posting I don?t know if you still use original OS installation that you got with your notebook or maybe OS preinstalled on your own.

I presume you didn't create recovery media (DVD) using preinstalled Toshiba recovery media creator, right?
In your situation usage of recovery disc could be easiest way to fix this and install original recovery image.

Can you please post exact notebook model?

I need some help for my sons laptop which is the Satellite Pro C660-1LR.

The hard drive in this laptop completely died, i did not create a recovery disc for this laptops system.
I have purchased a new hard drive which is installed..however as you have guessed i have no access to reinstalling a OS, this laptop runs on windows 7.

I am not really tech savvy so if anyone can advise me please make explain in idiot proof format!! I am trying to avoid having to purchase anything to costly.

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-1LR - New HDD but no recovery disc

> I am trying to avoid having to purchase anything to costly.
Problem is that you don't have many options about that.
If you want to have ?factory settings? again you need recovery installation disc. You can order it on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx Of course it is not for free but, in my opinion, definitely the best solution.

You can buy Microsoft installation disc and install own version. You must buy valid licence for it.
In this case you must install all necessary drivers, tools and utilities additionally one by one.

Just in case that you can get this Microsoft installation and licence for free you can save some money.

Believe me the best solution is original recovery disc order.

I ordered a set of 2 Toshiba recovery CD's and received them yesterday in order to fix this laptop from a Windows breakdown...

The problem arising at start up is that Windows 7 isn't starting up plus that the hard disk doesn't show in the BIOS (the DVD-drive does) and after the boot sequence the following message comes up: ?Reboot and select proper boot device or insert root media in selected boot device? Someone suggested the drive is broken or the cables to the same detached or lose.

The owner says, that the error first appeared after McAfee offered to "remove 15 errors found on the disk". The laptop has never been opened.

When running the recovery CD 1 the boot sequence starts the recovery but initially shows two pop-ups that indicate that the hard disk cannot be found.

First error message - ERROR: IOCTL_DISK_GET_LENGTH_INFO \\. \PHYSICALDRIVE0 The device is not ready.

Second error message says something like - There is no access to disk #0 or the RAID configuration isn't correct!

After accepting both messages the prompt hands out the error that also appears in this thread...

...and stops at this line...

X:\ windows\ system32 >

...reporting that the recovery failed.

I have fooled around with the advices in this thread...

Answer:Recovery CD's do not recover Satellite C660-1WN

(...continued from first post...)

Left to be said is that I also - before I ordered the recovery CDs - ran the second diagnostic DOS tool in the first table to check the disk and got the following report...

- HDD power cable is not properly attached to the HDD

- HDD interface cable is not properly attached to the HDD

- HDD master-slave setting is incorrect

...and equally that no disk could be detected.

My question is now..., what is wrong here? Is it the physical disk that might be the problem? Is it the software? MBR? Can the latter be restored by some command in the prompt? If, then how? Would it be easier to erase the whole disk and then use the recovery CDs? Or won't this work since the recovery CDs can only work with the recovery information on the disk (I assume that this information is only physically on the disk not on the recovery CDs, isn't this correctly understood)?

I am looking forward to any input and help. Thanks in advance.

Apologies if this is the wrong subforum:

Being the idiot I am, I changed my WIndows Login password and since I use very long passwords, I have no idea what I changed it to. Guessing is out of the question.

So I powered on my laptop while holding the 0 key, which brought me to the Windows Boot Manager screen. I pressed F8 on Windows 7 for advanced options and opted for 'Recovery Mode' as I have used this in the past to install the OS from scratch.

It asks me to select a keyboard layout and then enter my username and password to procede with HDD Recovery. It is this lack of password which is the reason for recovery.

Any advice on what I can do?

Thanks

Answer:HDD Recovery Issue on C660 Satellite

>It asks me to select a keyboard layout and then enter my username and password to procede with HDD Recovery. It is this lack of password which is the reason for recovery.
On this step you must enter your Windows login name and login password. Without right password you will not be able to start HDD recovery installation.

There is second option to install recovery image. You can do it now using recovery DVD. Have you created it using preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator?

Hi

Using the Toshiba original recovery discs the process gets partway through and then gives the following messages...

Error restoring image

ERROR: ImageX could not apply Win7 V:\HDDRecovery\SWImg\15489XSP.swm Index 2 from HDD to C:!

Can anybody advise?!

Answer:Cannot install recovery image on Satellite C660

Unfortunately there is no some ?workaround? to force recovery image installation to run properly.
All you can do at the moment is to set BIOS to default settings and try to use recovery disc again.
Be sure disc is clean.

Do you use recovery discs for the first time?

Answer:Satellite C660-121 can't verify the recovery disc

Hello Voger

I have created numerous recovery DVD on several Toshiba notebooks and have never noticed something like this. I have used DVD-R discs only and brands were Verbatim or TDK.

Unfortunately I cannot give you answer what does this message means but you must try to repeat DVD creation. If possible try with TDK.
If the same happen again I recommend you to recovery your notebook using HDD recovery option and try to create recovery discs again.

Sorry but I don?t see any other possibility at the moment.

Answer:Recovery disks creation for Satellite Pro C660-2JR

If your notebook was delivered with 64bit version you can create recovery disc for this preinstalled version only. With other words, recovery image saved on recovery partition will be saved on empty DVD disc. Nothing more than that.

If you want to use 32bit OS you must check if your notebook model is supported for it and install own version.

Hello,

A month ago I purchased a Toshiba C660-1FE. After three weeks my HD broke down. I bought a new HD from Western Digital and replaced the broken HD. As I did not make an recovery image of my HD, I had to order the Product recovery discs off the Toshiba website (3 discs, of which disc 1 and 3 were the only one's required for installation).

Now, I have the problem that my laptop keyboard does not work. I am currently using a USB keyboard and mouse to replace my keyboard and touchpad of the laptop.

The laptop keyboard works fine in BIOS. Therefore, I hope it's just a driver problem.

I have:

tried finding and installing lots of drivers on from the toshiba website, no result.
tried changing settings in the bios (usb enable/disable).
tried to fix the problem by re-installing the entire computer again several times.

The keyboard seems to work until windows loads. When the system is starting up I can press caps lock and num lock and the green lights come on. This all stops working once the windows startup symbol appears.

Perhaps a second problem in the device manager: under the display-adapter, 2 subcategories have exclamation marks: it says Mobile Intel(R) 4 series express chipset family twice! I can't seems to fix these with any drivers I can find either. When I check the settings I have this message (google translate since it was in dutch):

Answer:After Recovery with CD Satellite C660-1FE keyboard does NOT work

Hi

Keyboard works in BIOS? this means that the keyboard hardware should be ok and the connection between the motherboard and keyboard is established.

So what could be wrong? Keyboard driver?
Hmm? the keyboard driver is a part of the Windows OS and is installed automatically while OS installation?
I would recommend following:
Go to device manager and extract the point Keyboard.
There you should see something like ?standard PS/2 keyboard?
If you will see a red cross near this device, then this means that the keyboard is disabled.
Usually you should be able to enable this again (in device manager).
If there is no red cross, then I recommend deleting this keyboard from the device manager list?then reboot the notebook. Usually the OS should recognize the removed device automatically and should install the driver too.

Check this.

By the way: it could be possible that you have received a wrong Recovery disk? this could explain the issues after the recover procedure?

Hi folks,

Posting this question for my neighbour as he now has no internet access as laptop not working - Satellite C660 running Win7.

When powering up he gets the Toshiba screen then a blank screen with cursor at the top left flashing.

Tried to boot from Win7 DVD (Pressed F12 to get to boot options & changed to DVD), can hear the drive trying to access the dvd but then get the message 'failed'. Win7 DVD works in both my laptop and desktop pc's.

Any ideas.

Thank you

Answer:Satellite C660 Won't boot from HDD or recovery disks

> When powering up he gets the Toshiba screen then a blank screen with cursor at the top left flashing.

Possibly the HDD is dead.
You ca try to power up the unit and press F2
Now you should be able to access the BIOS.

If the HDD isn?t listed on the first BIOS page, then this means that HDD isn?t recognized by BIOS and this means that HDD is faulty.

Hi,

laptop was accidentally dropped, worked okay at first but now won't load,
using f12 key to boot menu, the screen says,

pxe-e61 media test failure-check cable.
also pxe-m0f; exiting
pxe rom, operating system not found. can anyone please explain waht this means?

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-v10 does not boot: pxe-e61 media test failure

The codes you are getting relate to the computer "setting itself up" before loading Windows and finding either what must be there missing or something that the BIOS says is there but missing. I believe the "check cable" message is generated when the pre-execution enviroment (pxe) looks for a device on a known connection and gets no response. This could be that a cable is not connected or the cable is perfect but the device is "broken" and is not responding to the pxe request.

I don't know anything about c660.
Can you access the BIOS? - is there anything greyed out or missing.
Can you change the boot order so that the CD is first and then see if the computer can start to run from a Windows CD.

(I would think its the HDD - I would think a mechanical device is more likely to give up than the electronics)

Hello,

on the laptop TOSHIBA C660, replaced the hard drive and, as a fact, the OS flew down (Windows 7 SP1 HB x 64).
Installed not licensed, there was no way out, on the Microsoft website, to download the image, the key from the laptop is not suitable.

Not a licensed image, there was no desire to put, the assembly is an assembly, naturally installed such an operating system behaved badly, buggy.

Done, and now the laptop does not work.
In the service center installation of OS and drivers costs 3500 rbl.

Hello all,

I have a Toshiba Satellite C660. I am trying to restore the laptop to the initial condition by the simple HDD Recovery. I have lost my old recovery disks. After completing first few initial steps, it goes to 'finishing installation' page and then gives an error message. After clicking to the dialog box 'ok' it resumes as 'Finishing installation' again. And now it has been almost 2 hours. It is still there. No improvement. What should I do ?

The icon on the bottom toolbar has lost the Windows Media Player icon and I can no longer view any videos. I get a "server execution failed" message. It will not start from the Start menu; all I get is a very brief flash of a new window that then disappears.

The window appears empty but it flashes on and off so quickly it is impossible to be sure. I have not been adding any new programs; only the usual Microdsoft updates. I've tried going back to earlier restore points and also turning Media Features off and on again from the Start menu to no avail.

Any ideas as to what has happened and how I can fix it?

Unfortunately I cannot say what is wrong there but you can try to find some Microsoft forum and ask there what can be wrong with this application. Generally speaking I think it is not Toshiba related issue.

For me it is the best player and I use it for the long time already.

I play 320 kb ripped mp3s in Winamp and usually watch youtube when the audio and video regularly glitch and jolt. These only happen about a second at a time but the noise is very noticeable and unpleasant and happens regularly when I am on my computer.

I thought it could be problem with CPU/memory but I literally only have Chrome and Winamp playing and have turned off a lot of programmes for startup. If there's anything I could do to fix this, any help would be greatly appreciated (even something to make the pauses less loud and noticeable!).

Answer:Satellite C660 - Jolts and glitches regulary while playing media

Hi saurus,

Do you notice this behavior on preinstalled Windows 7 version from Toshiba or is this your own installation?
Furthermore does it happen on internal speakers or headphone? Have you tested both?

It?s not always easy to say what the reason is but in your case I would try updating the sound driver. You can download a newer version on official Toshiba driver download page:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

Before you install the new version remove the old one first. Then restart your notebook and install the downloaded version of sound driver.

Can this be done?

I'm trying to restore my laptop to it's day of purchase (only a month today). From what I can see on the forum, I'm just one of a long line of us who has discovered that the version of our recovery DVD does not match the product we bought. Hence, I'd like to restore the 64 bit version (without the over-priced option of ordering recovery media which is scandalously over-priced compared to Microsoft's offering of 64-32 / 32-64 DVD switch for little over the cost of postage).

(((I'd be grateful for any ideas, however, I notice there is an unhealthy amount of 'experts' around who LOVE telling us consumers that everything is our fault. This brand of righteous 'help' is judgemental, condescending and above all - and most relevant to this forum -, is unhelpful. 'I just don't understand why you didn't back up 5,000 copies on the day of purchase'...etc. We all make mistakes, and if you've made one, you'll make on again. It's nice when the person we meet at that time doesn't point the finger of judgement)))

> Hence, I'd like to restore the 64 bit version (without the over-priced option of ordering recovery media which is scandalously over-priced compared to Microsoft's offering of 64-32 / 32-64 DVD switch for little over the cost of postage).

The notebook came with preinstalled Win 7 64bit. Additionally you received the Toshiba recovery disk Win 7 32bit version.

Please take a look into the user manual.
It said that you can create an additionally recovery disk of the OS which was preinstalled; means Win 7 64bit.
There should be a preinstalled tool called Toshiba Recovery disk creator. This tool helps to create an own new Win 7 64bit recovery disk.
After you have created this disk, you could use it in order to set the notebook back to the same state like at the first day of purchase.

Strange problem. My Satellite C660D-1FM was doing a bunch of updates from Microsoft (hadn't done any updates for ages as it was used by my daughter and not connected to the internet) and after they had completed it rebooted and I got the Toshiba splash screen and then nothing. Holding F8 gives the same problem, tried holding the '0' key while powering on and that was the same. Connected an external monitor and it's the same. I can get into the BIOS and everything looks fine.

So, thinking the hard drive might be faulty I fitted another hard drive and fully installed Win7 from a Microsoft DVD (SP1 and all updates) and everything works. I then thought I'd try and restore the laptop to default factory settings using the Toshiba recovery DVD's which Id created. All worked fine during the install, all 3 DVD's installed and it went through the setup procedure, laptop got to the end when it wanted to reboot, rebooted and now back to the same error - Toshiba splash screen is ok but then it just goes blank. To convince myself I wasn't going mad I then re-installed Win7 from my Microsoft DVD and it installs fine, does all updates and has worked all day today with no issue.

Anyone any idea what's going on?

Answer:Satellite C660 - blank screen after recovery image instalation

Hmmm... something like this should not happen.
Do you use recovery discs for the first time?
Have you noticed the same result on both HDDs?

Problem is that there is no much to do about that and there is no way to change anything while recovery installation runs or later when windows setup is in progress.

Try to set BIOS to default settings and simply try to install recovery image again.

Hi,

1st time forum poster so be gentle please!

My mum has just brought a Toshiba laptop and it's pretty decent to be fair. Taking a quick look at it though i noticed the recovery partition (that comes with most laptops now) is labelled "D:/Data and is 232GB in size. Seems a bit on the large side for me and wondering if it is incorrect?

Have got a screenshot and if someone could confirm either way i'd be most grateful. Can i attach screenshots?

Thanks in advance

Over a year ago i have changed to windows 10 (not aware that my laptop is not suitable for this)
It worked fine untill Microsoft started the Windows10 anniversary upgrade 1607.
each time this will result in unbootable system and in need of external recovery to window 10 version 1511.
blocking updates is not simple in Windows10.
I would like to revert to window 7.
The harddisk is error free and there are 4 partitons available:
Partition 1: System 399MB
Cannot use this to parttion install official windows7 from microsoft
Partition 2: Windows 232MB Primair
Partition 3: 786MB OEM reseverd
Partition 4: Data 232MB Primair

pressing 0 at startup does not reset to the original sw

Please can anyone help. I tried using my recovery disks to restore my notebook when it kept failing to start properly. The disks did not work so I purchased a set of disc from Toshiba on this website. I still have the same problem.

Is it the hard drive failing or something else?

If I purchase a new hard drive will the recovery disks work if the hard drive is not exactly the same as the one that came out?

Answer:Satellite C660 - recovery disk fails error 1117

Hi

Did you think about the HDD?
It could be a HDD malfunction that does not allow you to install the system.

I recommend checking the HDD for some possible issues.

There is a nice tool called Drive Fitness Test. You can use it for HDD check.
Google simply to get the software.

I have a brand-new Satellite Pro C660. It worked fine for a day, now it won't load windows. I didn't get around to creating the recovery disks as I've only had it a few hours (yes, yes, I know, should have been the first thing I did). All the data is present (but backed up to USB just in case) and I can see the HDDREcovery folder with all data intact. However, I can't run the app to create recovery disks. Does anyone know how to extract the images and create the media using only the command prompt? (I can get into command prompt by booting from a friend's Win 7 disk). All boot options from the laptop's own drives fail. It says "Windows Failed to Load", and I try Startup Repair but it doesn't find any errors. Any help/thoughts on this will be much appreciated!

Answer:Re: Satellite Pro C660 - How to make recovery disk with command prompt?

Hey,

It?s not possible to create recovery disk with command prompt. You have to use the Toshiba recovery media creator on Windows.

Now it?s too late for you but you can order such a disk here:

Hi all

Just a query
My GF turned on her laptop Satellite C660 series and it would not boot up, we tried to initiate the recovery sequence from the recovery partition but kept getting the error that was on boot up (the error was telling us a USB device had been unplugged).

As you probably guessed she never made the back-up discs when prompted, all I could think of was using a win 7 disc and reload that way then try and make the recovery discs after (I didn't activate)
so win 7 was installed nicely and all drivers sourced that was all last week.
Now for the crunch , the recovery partition is there can I now make the recovery discs and install from those , the win 7 I installed will soon require activation
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite C660 - recovery partition is there but can I make back up discs?

After own OS installation you cannot create recovery disc anymore and you can not install recovery image using HDD recovery option (F8 at start-up).

Best thing you can do now is to order original disc from Toshiba and use it for recovery image installation. It is definitely easiest way to have ?factory settings? again.
You can order it on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

So is the data on D safe if I use recovery?

thanks

Answer:Re: Satellite C660/C660D will using recovery erase data on D partition?

Hi

From my knowledge using Recovery Disk would format the whole HDD and all partitions would be created again during this process.
This means that your data on D partition is not safe.

But from my experience the usage of HDD recover would format only the system (C) partition? not quite sure if this applies to all the Toshiba notebooks so possibly you should test this first time? in such case would recommend backup the data in case D partition would be erased.

I have a Satellite C660-10D that is within 1 Year Warranty that has suddently decided it doesn't want to boot up and gives a strange noise that sounds mechanical.

I've tried F2 & F11 options during boot but I keep coming back to the same messages whatever options I try:

Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller v1.23 (07/28/10)
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM
Operating system not found.

I can't get past this & get the laptop working, which leads to my second problem.

It is within warranty so I thought I would log for repair. The Serial number is recognised in the Support My Product section. But when I try to enter it in the repair section it says

ERROR: Serial Number not valid.
Please check and re-try.
Then gives a number to call that only works weekdays.

So I have what appears to be a broken laptop that I can't currently log for repair.
If you are able to help with either of these problems it would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Satellite C660-10D Operating System Not Found PXE-E61: Media test failure

Hi

I?m quite sure that the problem is related to the faulty HDD.
This would also explain the mechanical noise while booting.

The PXE-E61: Media test failure appears because the notebook tries to boot from LAN.
Why? Because the HDD could not be found and the CD/DVD drive does not contain a bootable disk.

So BIOS switched to LAN?

Therefore the HDD replacement should help you to sort out this issue.
If the warranty is valid, get in contact with an local ASP in your country. Maybe you could get a HDD which could be replaced easily?

Here is a database with all ASPs worldwide:

Does anyone have any reasonable idea how much time this process takes? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite C660-1F1 Toshiba HDD Recovery "Setup is starting services" hang?

Powered off after 2 hours.

Seems that it could be BIOS version currently 1.2 needs upgrade to a more recent version so I'll have a look at that. Also possible issue with bootrec maybe.

I'll update later :)

I'm trying to fix this laptop for a girl I know, I've built machines and fixed many before and this is my first time needing help but I am stumped.

Basically she told me her hard drive had stopped working, this was verified by a third party. I told her what hard drive to buy, she got it and I installed it.

I initially tried to install windows 7 from a USB, it was recognised in the but I was getting a failure.

I assumed something was up with the USB so tried to install from CD which is also failing:

[ CD/DVD&nbsp;&nbsp; TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633C] is failed<br><br>The hard drive is recognised.

I have tried changing the SATA controller mode to compatibility, which is the only other option from AHCI

Somewhere it pops up Media Test failure, check cable but very quickly so I barely can read it, but CD, hard drive and USB's are all recognised.

Any thoughts? I've had this laptop for a couple of weeks now, she is getting understandably impatient, please help :/

Hi,

Can someone please help,

I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite C660/C660D for my nephew, We have forgotten the administrator password and we don't have password reset disk is there anyway around this.

Thanks

Answer:I forgot my administrator password on Satellite C660/C660

Hi

I assume you are talking about windows system password and not about BIOS password. Right?
It?s not very big problem if you forgotten the System password but if you mean BIOS password then you are in trouble because the BIOS password can be deleted just by an Toshiba ASP technicians?

So I assume you mean Windows password? so start the notebook and press F8
Now you can choose Repair my Computer and then choose HDD recovery.
This would start a HDD recovery procedure which would reinstall the system? during the setup you can set anther admin password.

Of course there are some other methods but as far as I know this requires 3rd party software/tools or Win 7 DVD? so I think the HDD recovery is the fastest solution.

If i then use that to restore the Windows 7 installation onto a new hard drive (as SSD) will that drive itself have the recovery media partition on it?

So if I then lose the USB stick could I restore again by holding down zero when powering on?

Or does it recover the Windows partition and nothing more?

When I first got this product, before opening I thought that all the 500gb would go to the first partition, but then I saw that the recovery partition has half of the 500gb just for recovery which is unnessecery.

But I had no problem with this at the time, and used the recovery partition(after saving to a disk) for ubuntu so I could have a dual boot.

But now I've came to realise that the games I'm downloading are taking more and more room up on my C drive. The problem I have is that I can shrink my recovery partition and enlarge the C drive.

Does anyone know a work around?

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-225: Shrinking recovery partition englarge C partition

You will need an 3rd party software to shrink the recovery partition and to add the free space the existing C partition.
I would recommend you an freeware tool called Gparted

But before you would start doing this, create a recovery disk!
This is advisable in case you would try to set the notebook back to factory settings using such disk.

Hello

unfortunately i need to recover factory default with the recovery Media (3 DVDs which i created with the "Toshiba Recovery Media Creator" Tool before starting the recovery process).

So i boot the Toshiba Recovery Wizard from the Recovery DVDs and choose "Recovery of factory default software", which starts with copying the files from the Disks.

But it will come to a point when it asks me for a further Disk (DVD 4), which i of cause don't have. And when i checked the 3 REcory Disks i noticed that one was not complety written and one was even empty.
(DVD1: 4,4 GB, DVD2: 709,1 MB, DVD3: empty)

i can't repeat "Toshiba Recovery Media Creator" because the Hard disk is already complety erased.

this is why i aks for recovery media.

Hi,

We bought toshiba Satelite pro S500-115, and we are very much dissapointed!!!
In first two months I brought to service three times, because it was freezing up every few hours.
Finally they changed CPU and motherboard.

Then, the major problem appeared.
I couldn't make recovery media before, because of freezing, but now, the official service also deleted the hard drive - just in case....
So, I don't have recovey media, it can't be downloaded, neither the other media from Win7 doesn't accept the number from bellow.

I send the mail for help many times to toshiba headquarters, but they just don't care! I found out that, I must pay extra to get the media - but I allready bought system! This is really shiiit, and I don't suggest to my customers to buy anything from Toshiba.

I really don't like their atitude. they just want to sell, but then they just don't care, *******es!

Good luck man?

PS: I had some problems with my notebook and my ASP was very helpful. I was very satisfied how the issue has been handled?

Since my problem getting my laptop to boot up I recently tried to use the recovery discs which I made 2 years ago. The first 2 seemed to load but the last one was rejected ( it was a different make DVD). I have copied it on my old Tosh.L 350 but it still does not work. I suspect that copying does not produce an exact duplicate! Is this reasonable?
Does anyone know where I can get the required recovery media and is it the same for any laptop of the same model or is it specific to mine?
After the recent failure of My C850 to boot up I eventually got the message

Recovery

Your PC needs to be repaired.

Required device isn?t connected or can?t be accessed.

Error code: 0xc000000f

I followed some instructions for this so that my PC should boot up from the CD/DVD drive.but when I try this I get the message

PXE-E61 : Media test failure, check cable
followed by
PXE-M0F : Exiting PXE ROM. No bootable device -- insert boot disc and press any key.

Since the only cable attached is to the power supply does the message about the cable mean that either the CD/DVD drive or hard drive are not properly connected?
Can anyone help please.

Answer:Cannot create recovery media on my Satellite C660D-1CU

Such problem occurs if Toshiba recovery creator tool cannot find recovery image on the HDD. There are many reasons for that. Recovery image can be deleted, removed or HDD partitions structure is maybe changed. Just with original settings and original HDD condition this will work.

Unfortunately now you will not be able to create recovery media or start HDD recovery installation.
What you can do is to order new and original recovery DVD for your notebook model and it can be done on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

Hey there:

I need a Windows 8.1 Recovery Media for my Click Mini.
An original Windows 8.1 bootdisc from Microsoft don't works for me.
The keyboard, trackpad or touchscreen isn't working for me
in the Windows setup.

The Toshiba download site isn't very helpful. There is no disc image.
The support is also bad in my country. To get a phone number you have
to play with an very helpful "virtual assistant" and then you have
to upload the bill and your full adress. This is really worse.

I hope you can help me there, thanks.

Hello. My laptop came with Windows 8, but I upgraded to 8.1 and then to 10. However, I wanted to return it to its original state, since it worked better for me. But the recovery partition was no more, so I ordered a recovery media USB, which came today.

However, no matter I try, everytime I try to boot from the USB, the computer ignores it and boots Windows 10 instead. I don't know what to do, so please lend me a hand. Thank you.

Answer:Satellite U940-108 ignores recovery media

I finally managed to boot from the USB and install Windows.

Hello. I need to format a Satellite Pro T130 device, but the recovery partition has been corrupted, and we do not have the recovery media. I have tried acquiring a Windows 7 ISO file from Microsoft to create a boot drive, but they won't allow me to download anything since the provided windows key belongs to an OEM device. What other options do I have to format the device?

Trying to copy in USB memory, using Recovery Media Creator, initial image of Pc; just in case future problems I get this message : Error 040 EAE-02-000000000.
Any idea of what this means?.

Answer:Re: Satellite Pro L - Error using recovery media creator

Hello

Have you already tested another USB stick? Probably the stick is defective so the recovery media can?t create successfully.

Also format the stick before using recovery media creator.

I have recently purchased a refurbished Toshiba Satelite T110-12T and am in the midst of creating some recovery media on 2 x DVD. It is now approahing 2 hours and the gas gauge is still at approx 50% of first disc!

Can someone please advise me if this is normal or should I abort and re-start? What is your experience of the time taken?

Answer:Satellite T110-12T - Creating recovery media

Hi OfficerDibble,

Usually creating the recovery medium takes less than one hour.

I don?t know what?s going wrong on your notebook but it could be related to low quality mediums that you use. I have good experience with DVD-R mediums (NOT DVD+R) from Verbatim and TDK. This always works very well and I would recommend such high quality mediums.

As far as I know Satellite T110 offers also an option to create recovery files on USB stick. Have you already tried this?

On my new Toshiba Satellite C850-11V there appears te be no TRMCLcher.exe in the map Program Files/Toshiba/Toshiba Recovery Media Creater. This is the application with which I should create DVD's for recovery. Very strange. The rest of the map looks OK. Probably something went wrong while unpacking the software.

Can anyone send me the program TRMCLcher.exe as a ZIP-file, so that I can copy it manually into te map?
Thanks. Herman.

Answer:Recovery Media Creater is missing on my Satellite C850

Hello Herman

In my opinion you should install recovery image again and check it one more time with ?factory settings?.
How to install recovery image using HDD recovery mode you can read on

I've just bought a Satellite S50T-B008 laptop and in recovery media creator, when I click on create it tells me to insert a USB flash drive greater than 11.8GB.Which I have a 32GB USB flash drive installed.

I click on OK and then another box comes up saying the same. I keep going round in circles and I can't create the recovery media. I've tried it with other USB flash drives and different USB ports on the laptop and still get the same.

Any ideas?

Answer:Can't create recovery media on my Satellite S50T-B008

On my two machines I?ve used 16GB USB sticks from two different manufacturers and everything went well.
I recommend you to use 16GB USB stick too. Try to restart your machine ( complete shutdown ) and test it again.
You can also try to format USB stick before you start recovery media creation

I have a new Toshiba Satellite L500-1XD. I have tried to create the recovery media twice now and both times it failes on the first of two disks with the following error;

Failed to open the following file.
E:\boot\bcd
(Error Code:02013-F1-00000000)

I am using the Toshiba Recovery Media Creator. The operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. I am using standard 4.7GB DVD+R disks.

Any help would be useful.

Thank you.

Answer:Re: Failure to create recovery media Satellite L500-1XD

> I am using standard 4.7GB DVD+R disks.

I recommend you to use high quality media like verbatim or Tdk. You see, it can cause problem with ,,low brand,, disks.

Hello everyone,

My question is about the Recovery Media Creator procces.
I was about to create the recovery and I noticed there are several options (DVD 4.7 Go, DVD 8.5 GB and USB Flash).

My Toshiba Satellite L855-12X is with a Blu-ray Disc Drive burner and would like to use a BD-RE I bought for backups.

Does anyone have a solution to use this media ?

Answer:Satellite L855-12X: How to use BD-RE with TOSHIBA Recovery Media Creator

I have the same optical disc drive in my Satellite but no option to use empty BD for recovery media creation. I presume preinstalled Toshiba software cannot handle with it.
Best thing you can do is to create USB recovery media.

To be honest I?ve created two back-ups (DVDs and USB). I can always use one of them if necessary.

I have a Satellite T230D running Windows 7 Home Premium. When attempting to create recovery media using a USB drive, the process starts by advising that the USB drive will be formatted.
At this point it fails with the error code 040EAE-57-00000000. The USB drive is left in an unusable state and cannot be reformatted by Windows.

The HP USB Format utility does manage to reformat the USB drive.
Before starting to create the recovery media application I disabled virus control, the firewall and Internet access to ensure that nothing got in the way. I have tried this twice with the same result both times.

Answer:Satellite T230D fails to create recovery media

Can you please tell us which USB device do you use?
Have you tested it with different USB flash memory sticks?

Hi everyone.

Two weeks ago I bought my first Toshiba notebook (P100-324). Before, I had many doubts about Toshiba equipment. Now I must say I am really very satisfied with the quality of your product. The notebook itself is great and everything runs smoothly.

Except one problem: in the box there was only one disc: the CD labeled "Express Media Player Recovery CD". When I checked the Toshiba's online database with my s/n it showed a Windows recovery DVD in the package listing. So I did what you guys recommend to do: contacted *all* the ASPs in Poland. Surprisingly, the customer service quality was not so good. Every one of them told me, that if there was no actual DVD in the box, there MUST be a hidden partition on my HDD, and if I want to buy the CD/DVD with the OS (that I have an OEM license/sticker to use: XP MCE) I have to pay about 20 EUR.

Wow. A price of 20 EUR for a single CD worth... 5 cents? (the media itself, not the software) Actually, when I was paying a lot of money for my notebook I expected something more in the terms of customer service. But anyway, I'm just a single customer, probably worth less than nothing to all those ASPs. So, after that long and boring prologue, here are my questions:

1) Should there be another DVD in my box that contains Windows XP MCE OEM installation?

2) If not - is there some uber-elite technique that Toshiba uses to hide Windows recovery partition from me? There are only 2 partitions on my HDD: one with 250 M... Read more

Answer:System recovery media is not delivered with my new Satellite P100

Hello Tomasz

First of all I am very happy to hear you are satisfied with your new P100. At the moment I use older Satellite M70 with ATI graphics but I am thinking about buying Satellite P100. Satellite P100 is for a long time on the market and I hope that very soon Toshiba will produce P100 ?successor?. Maybe something like P200 and I think I will wait for few months to see what happen in the future.

Back to your question:
As far as I know recovery DVD should be delivered with brand new and original packed product. On your notebook there is also preinstalled Express Media Player. This is small Linux based application that allows you watching DVD movies or listening audio CDs without starting operating system. It is preinstalled on small unallocated partition. Using delivered ?Express Media Player? recovery CD you can install it any time. As I said recovery DVD should be delivered with your notebook. But in this whole story one thing confusing me: Googling around I have found out that Satellite P100-324 is offered in Germany and Austria. Because of that I really do not know how you were able to buy this product in Poland? Have you bough it brand new or maybe as some showroom product.
Please give some more info about that.

Maybe is my posting too long but I just wanted to explain you one more thing. Maybe pretty important thing: Many users mix Toshiba and Authorized service partners. Every Authorized service partner is not Toshiba directly. All those partners are ... Read more

I?ve recently purchased a Satellite Pro C850 and, after updating Win 7 and setting everything the way I like it, I tried to create recovery media.

However, when I click on Recovery Media Creator in programs, the file "TRMCLcher.exe" cannot be found. Indeed, I cannot find it anywhere on the computer.

In the directory C:/Program Files/Toshiba/Toshiba Recovery Media Creator, there is an application named "toRDC.exe" but this will not run.

Does anyone have any ideas how to get Recovery Meda Creator to run? I?d rather avoid the hassle of using the Hard Disk partition recovery option to return to factory settings if possible, particularly as I?m doubtful Recovery Media Creator will work even then, considering I?ve not deleted or altered any files to do with the program.

Grateful for any help, thanks.

Answer:Satellite Pro C850 - Missing Recovery Media Creator

Take a look at this page:
http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/support/computers/satellite/pro/c850/pskc9a-00t019/download?os=25

Here I could find the Toshiba Recovery Media Creator for Win 7 64bit for download.
Of course if you need 32bit version, you should change the settings in the download form.

Hey

As title says. Tried reverting a win10 update with the result that somehow the HDD got completely wiped, including the recovery partition Thanks a bunch MS! So right now, it just says fail to locate media (or some such) Pressing 0 while powering on does nothing (I did change the BIOS settings for secure boot) and looking at the boot order, shows me the main HDD, the optical drive, USB and a EFI thingy (no idea what that is) None of the options are able to boot though. I did manage to make a windows 8.1 recovery on USB stick, and can install win 8.1, but without drivers and anything else that came with the computer when my wife first bought it.

I've tried locate a recovery disc for it, but the site only shows it available in NH. No idea what NH is (Netherlands?) while I need one in danish or English (none of those options was available) If any could give me a pointer where to find it, I would be very grateful! I could probably find the various drivers needed if I had a list of what I need, but would prefer to have it all on one disc.

Side question. Could I via a recovery disc, make a new recovery partition, to bring it back to factory standard or does it happen automatically?

Best regards and thanks in advance

I have upgraded my laptop to Windows 10 and have since made a USB recovery disk using the Toshiba Recovery Media Creator; my question is will it recover to Windows 10 or the original Windows 8.1?

Also are all the drivers and software recovered?

Thanks for your patience - I'm fairly new to this!

Answer:Satellite P50-C-128 - Windows 10 upgraded - recovery media question

Did you create a recovery USB flash memory stick before the Windows 10 upgrade?

Usually the Toshiba recovery medium would set the notebook back to factory settings… to the same system which was preinstalled at the beginning.

Hi everyone

I have a Satellite A665 and I tried to make a recovery disk by the Recovery Media Creator, but I have got an Error Code: 0E01B5-26-2A030200
Anybody have any idea about this problem !!!!!!!!!

Answer:Satellite A665 - Error in the Recovery Media Creator

I have created recovery discs my two Toshibas but everything went well.
In the past in this forum several people have reported about similar error messages but at the end we don't know why this happen.

What you can try is to start HDD recovery again and when the OS is preinstalled try to create the recovery disc again.
Please use DVD-R media only and also buy high quality media as Verbatim or TDK.

Hi guys I have a bit of an issue with my laptop (Satellite Pro A300-PSAG1E0). Well a few issues really

I had the laptop purchased as a gift second hand from eBay. The listing stated the laptop had the XP Downgrade media supplied on DVD which it wasn't and that I could create a copy of the recovery media using the built in software which it doesn't as it doesn't have the recovery creator software on it.

I belive that the laptop is running an illegal version of Windows as the product key sticker states it is meant to run Vista Home primium and it runs windows 7.

The seller has disappeared and he is not awnsering any of my calls. Im at my whits end with this as being on a low income means I can't really afford to buy recovery media or an offical Windows disk.

Any help on how I could get the recovery disks or any advice on how I can get a legal copy of Windows would be great. I have also reported it to microsoft as suspect software.

Once Again thanks

Chris Winter
