Preferred Solution: Re: Satellite C660 - recovery media error - CRC failed

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Re: Satellite C660 - recovery media error - CRC failed

I?m afraid there is no help. Something must be wrong with recovery DVD.
Do you use it for the first time?

Hi!

I have a laptop from a client, that is a Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-239, and i'm having a strange issue.

The original hard disk failed, and as the laptop is out of warranty, we bought a new hard disk, and ordered the recovery media to this model, from our local toshiba repair assistance.

After the setup copied the files to the disk, the imageX fails when restoring the image files with the error:

"the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable".

The hard disk is new, and i tried also with more 2 hard disks, and also with an external cd-rom drive.

I talked with the support from the local repair assistance, and they told me this occurs because the new hard drive ins't compatible with the recovery media?!

One of the new hard disks i tried, was the exact same model than the original hard disk, and the error still occurs, so the hard disk can't be the problem.

Is there any change of the recovery media is corrupted?

Could also be a motherboard problem?

Thank you

> Is there any change of the recovery media is corrupted?
Of course this is possible.
In case the HDD is OK, the recovery media could be corrupted.

>Could also be a motherboard problem?
I don?t think so?. I presume the HDD is recognized in BIOS properly and the error message says something about corrupted directory. I guess the disk directory is meaning and I think media should be replaced.

*I brought up the "Toshiba Board" & " Recovery Media Creator" in my L500D laptop in order to create backup disc's this process uses 4 DVD disc's.*
*Disc 1&2 went OK but disc 3 failed, saying that "Error code" 020150-20-00000000"*
*then it created disc 4 {Win/Recovery Environment } {64bit}* no problems what do i do now ?
in the {fingers crossed } event of needing the backup disc's will it work with just disc's 1 ,2 & 4 ?

I spend some hours to try to create the recovery disks for my Laptop (Satellite C660-1DG)

It fails on the second DVD halfway. It just hangs. CTRL-ALT-DEL does not work anymore a cold boot is required to start the thing again.

I tried several DVD's but NOGO each time halfway the second DVD it hangs.

I really need to create these recovery DVD's because Im going to upgrade the laptop to run a Windows Server 2012 install for development purposes.

I thought this would take just a minimum amount of time but... of course...

Any thoughs on any way to get this stuff working?

Answer:Satellite C660-1DG - Toshiba Media Creator Recovery fails creating 2nd DVD

I burned just another disk and it was full of validation errors: hundreds.

So I connected my external DVD writer (NEC ND-3500AG) (firmware 2.1A) and took THE SAME DVD and burned it: presto: no problems: 0 validation errors

So I deduce that the internal DVD writer (TSSTcorp TS-L633C) (firmware TF20) is chunky.

I am still in warranty but... is it any use?

What kind of blank DVDs you are using for creating Toshiba recovery disk?

Maybe the error is related to the disk? I have used Verbatim DVD-R mediums and had no problems to create the disks.

hi there im wondering if anyone can help with this issue, coming from old school computing where it was a pain the backside to sort things out but you sort of knew where you were, i no longer know where i am!
by this i mean why the hell do modern machines/manufacturers make it harder to sort out problems!!!???

I HAVE UPLOADED SOME IMAGES ONTO MY WEBSITE (to use the space!) the address is my own and there is no dodgy content or threats on there so feel free to have a look to see if you can help!

my 10 month old toshiba satellite c660-2ef has decided to un recognise the HDD by itself and after checking the fixings cables and a good visual check , i have gone as far as buying a new SSD to replace the old drive as its died, this didnt work either.

according to other forums my bios may be corrupted but i cannot find a fix as i cannot flash it to phoenix v2.0 in dos as it is

http://www.ukamateurpokerplayers.com/laptop2.JPG

i have tried to put the laptop into crisis mode by depressing fn and B buttons on start up and reflash the bios but this is to no avail as i cannot find a correct or an easy procedure to get phlash16.exe working from a bootable USB drive and flash it via that method as it is currently the only one open to me

not that im familiar with using phlash16 but it just gives me a himem error message ??? lost here even if its the right version for my c660-2ef

Please can anyone help. I tried using my recovery disks to restore my notebook when it kept failing to start properly. The disks did not work so I purchased a set of disc from Toshiba on this website. I still have the same problem.

Is it the hard drive failing or something else?

If I purchase a new hard drive will the recovery disks work if the hard drive is not exactly the same as the one that came out?

Answer:Satellite C660 - recovery disk fails error 1117

Hi

Did you think about the HDD?
It could be a HDD malfunction that does not allow you to install the system.

I recommend checking the HDD for some possible issues.

There is a nice tool called Drive Fitness Test. You can use it for HDD check.
Google simply to get the software.

My two-year old Satellite C75-A-14X suffered a major hard drive crash a few weeks ago. My data has been backed up, but I've been unable to repair my PC, and as I hadn't created any recovery media, I bought a system recovery USB stick from Toshiba. I received the USB stick today and attempted to restore my laptop to its factory default settings. I left my laptop to perform the recovery for about an hour or so. When I returned, the screen said that there was an error (I didn't make a note of the error code) and the recovery had failed. Now, when I restart my laptop I get a blue screen with the following text:

"Recovery

Your PC needs to be repaired

A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed.

Error code: 0xc000000f

You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer.

Press Enter to try again
Press F8 for Startup Settings
Press Esc for UEFI Firmware Settings"

When I press Enter or F8, my laptop remains on the blue screen with the above text. Pressing Esc is the only option at this screen that works. How can I re-attempt restoring factory settings from the recovery USB stick?

Just one question;
Did you try to recover the unit or did you try to create an recovery disk?

To be honest I?m not quite sure about this error message but if this has happened during the system restore then you should repeat this procedure again.

I think its only an temporal error message?

Try to boot from the recovery disk again and check how it will run.

My sister asked me to update her laptop (Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-16N; Part number PSC0ME-01S00SEN) from Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) to Windows 8 (64-bit).
So I did.

Then I went to Toshiba's UK website to check if there were any drivers I needed to install for Windows 8. The only one was a BIOS update (to BIOS v1.70). I have no idea what the previous BIOS version number was.

So I run the update application within Windows 8. Phoenix Technologies WinPhlash starts and then halfway through the update, the whole thing freezes.

The trackpad wouldn't move the cursor or anything. I had no option but to unplug the laptop from the wall and remove the battery. The laptop is not under warranty.

Of course, now it won't turn on. It beeps once when I press the power button, but the system doesn't turn on. A couple of minutes later, it sounds one long beep then two short beeps. It then keeps repeating this "one long beep, two short beeps" sequence every couple of minutes.

I have Googled and read website after blog after forum post, but nothing works. The links to the software suggested on these websites/blogs/forums are usually dead, so I cannot try what they suggest.

The most common solution is the Phoenix Crisis Recovery Tool. I have managed to download v1.0.0.4 which is supposed to enable me to make a bootable USB key. Computer: Toshiba Laptop
Model: Satellite M305D-S4830

Problem: Initially windows wouldn't boot; so I decided I would try to reformat it to fix the issue.
First I erased the hard drive; now I'm trying to use the "TOSHIBA Recovery Wizard" that came with the laptop to reinstall the operating system, but end up getting the following:

"ERROR: 08-0A74-0000
Partition creation failed."

p.s. I have tried formating using the command prompt but it says format failed after choosing a volume label.

p.s.#2 When I run the startup repair I get the error that the volume is corrupt

I noticed there is a hidden partition called X: where there is a backup of the out-of-box operating system, but have no clue how I might use that backup to possibly restore windows...

What should I do?

Answer:Satellite M305D-S4830: recovery error - Partition creation failed

I think the problem is the partition on your HDD.
You said you erased the hard drive? well, this might be the reason why the recovery does not function as it should.

In my opinion the full HDD should be formatted again (all partitions should be removed and formatted too.).
Maybe you could use an Microsoft original disk (Win XP CD) to format the HDD and then you could use the Toshiba recovery disk to recover the notebook again!

Iv been given a toshiba satellite c660-1j6.
The problem is the hard drive has been wiped (including the back up). I have none of the Toshiba back up disks , but i have new copies of win 7 home prem and xp pro. However when i try to install win7 i get as far as selecting the drive to install it and i click on the drive and i get the message about how windows cant be installed on this drive please check the drive controller is enabled.

Iv check the BIOS more then a few times and i cant find anything to do with it apart from the SATA Controller Mode and that dose nothing.
Toshiba Tech Support where no help at all. so is the HD locked or the BIOS and is there any way of unlocking them so i can install the O/s?

Iv tested the drive by hooking it up to a desk top PC and installing windows that way but as soon as i put the drive back in the laptop it comes up with no O/S installed again

Can someone give any help....or clues even , iv been at this for a week now and im going insane.

Answer:Satellite C660-1J6 Win7 clean installation failed - HDD controller disabled

Hi

HDD is not locked. You can install any OS on the HDD.
Usually the Win 7 operating system already contains the SATA drivers which are needed in order to see the HDD. So it?s not necessary to include SATA drivers while Win 7 installation. You said you?ve got a Win 7 copy disk. Is this a original Microsoft disk with full functional Win 7?
I?ve installed many times Win 7 on my Toshiba notebooks and didn?t need to use SATA drivers?

In BIOS you have found SATA controller mode. This should be set to AHCI. You can change this pressing SPACE.
But also settings the BIOS to default should do this job.

I ordered a set of 2 Toshiba recovery CD's and received them yesterday in order to fix this laptop from a Windows breakdown...

The problem arising at start up is that Windows 7 isn't starting up plus that the hard disk doesn't show in the BIOS (the DVD-drive does) and after the boot sequence the following message comes up: ?Reboot and select proper boot device or insert root media in selected boot device? Someone suggested the drive is broken or the cables to the same detached or lose.

The owner says, that the error first appeared after McAfee offered to "remove 15 errors found on the disk". The laptop has never been opened.

When running the recovery CD 1 the boot sequence starts the recovery but initially shows two pop-ups that indicate that the hard disk cannot be found.

First error message - ERROR: IOCTL_DISK_GET_LENGTH_INFO \\. \PHYSICALDRIVE0 The device is not ready.

Second error message says something like - There is no access to disk #0 or the RAID configuration isn't correct!

After accepting both messages the prompt hands out the error that also appears in this thread...

...and stops at this line...

X:\ windows\ system32 >

...reporting that the recovery failed.

I have fooled around with the advices in this thread...

Answer:Recovery CD's do not recover Satellite C660-1WN

(...continued from first post...)

Left to be said is that I also - before I ordered the recovery CDs - ran the second diagnostic DOS tool in the first table to check the disk and got the following report...

- HDD power cable is not properly attached to the HDD

- HDD interface cable is not properly attached to the HDD

- HDD master-slave setting is incorrect

...and equally that no disk could be detected.

My question is now..., what is wrong here? Is it the physical disk that might be the problem? Is it the software? MBR? Can the latter be restored by some command in the prompt? If, then how? Would it be easier to erase the whole disk and then use the recovery CDs? Or won't this work since the recovery CDs can only work with the recovery information on the disk (I assume that this information is only physically on the disk not on the recovery CDs, isn't this correctly understood)?

I am looking forward to any input and help. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-1LR - New HDD but no recovery disc

Problem is that you don't have many options about that.
If you want to have ?factory settings? again you need recovery installation disc. You can order it on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx Of course it is not for free but, in my opinion, definitely the best solution.

You can buy Microsoft installation disc and install own version. You must buy valid licence for it.
In this case you must install all necessary drivers, tools and utilities additionally one by one.

Just in case that you can get this Microsoft installation and licence for free you can save some money.

Believe me the best solution is original recovery disc order.

Apologies if this is the wrong subforum:

Being the idiot I am, I changed my WIndows Login password and since I use very long passwords, I have no idea what I changed it to. Guessing is out of the question.

So I powered on my laptop while holding the 0 key, which brought me to the Windows Boot Manager screen. I pressed F8 on Windows 7 for advanced options and opted for 'Recovery Mode' as I have used this in the past to install the OS from scratch.

It asks me to select a keyboard layout and then enter my username and password to procede with HDD Recovery. It is this lack of password which is the reason for recovery.

Any advice on what I can do?

Thanks

Answer:HDD Recovery Issue on C660 Satellite

On this step you must enter your Windows login name and login password. Without right password you will not be able to start HDD recovery installation.

There is second option to install recovery image. You can do it now using recovery DVD. Have you created it using preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator?

Answer:Satellite C660-15r stucks and no recovery possible

At first I must say that recovery option is available if notebook has ?factory settings?. After reading your posting I don?t know if you still use original OS installation that you got with your notebook or maybe OS preinstalled on your own.

I presume you didn't create recovery media (DVD) using preinstalled Toshiba recovery media creator, right?
In your situation usage of recovery disc could be easiest way to fix this and install original recovery image.

Can you please post exact notebook model?

Hello,

A month ago I purchased a Toshiba C660-1FE. After three weeks my HD broke down. I bought a new HD from Western Digital and replaced the broken HD. As I did not make an recovery image of my HD, I had to order the Product recovery discs off the Toshiba website (3 discs, of which disc 1 and 3 were the only one's required for installation).

Now, I have the problem that my laptop keyboard does not work. I am currently using a USB keyboard and mouse to replace my keyboard and touchpad of the laptop.

The laptop keyboard works fine in BIOS. Therefore, I hope it's just a driver problem.

I have:

tried finding and installing lots of drivers on from the toshiba website, no result.
tried changing settings in the bios (usb enable/disable).
tried to fix the problem by re-installing the entire computer again several times.

The keyboard seems to work until windows loads. When the system is starting up I can press caps lock and num lock and the green lights come on. This all stops working once the windows startup symbol appears.

Perhaps a second problem in the device manager: under the display-adapter, 2 subcategories have exclamation marks: it says Mobile Intel(R) 4 series express chipset family twice! I can't seems to fix these with any drivers I can find either. When I check the settings I have this message (google translate since it was in dutch):

Hmm? the keyboard driver is a part of the Windows OS and is installed automatically while OS installation?
I would recommend following:
Go to device manager and extract the point Keyboard.
There you should see something like ?standard PS/2 keyboard?
If you will see a red cross near this device, then this means that the keyboard is disabled.
Usually you should be able to enable this again (in device manager).
If there is no red cross, then I recommend deleting this keyboard from the device manager list?then reboot the notebook. Usually the OS should recognize the removed device automatically and should install the driver too.

Check this.

By the way: it could be possible that you have received a wrong Recovery disk? this could explain the issues after the recover procedure?

Hi folks,

Posting this question for my neighbour as he now has no internet access as laptop not working - Satellite C660 running Win7.

When powering up he gets the Toshiba screen then a blank screen with cursor at the top left flashing.

Tried to boot from Win7 DVD (Pressed F12 to get to boot options & changed to DVD), can hear the drive trying to access the dvd but then get the message 'failed'. Win7 DVD works in both my laptop and desktop pc's.

Any ideas.

Thank you

Nigel

Answer:Satellite C660 Won't boot from HDD or recovery disks

> When powering up he gets the Toshiba screen then a blank screen with cursor at the top left flashing.

Possibly the HDD is dead.
You ca try to power up the unit and press F2
Now you should be able to access the BIOS.

If the HDD isn?t listed on the first BIOS page, then this means that HDD isn?t recognized by BIOS and this means that HDD is faulty.

Hi

is there a way to make the recovery disks install win7 x32 instead of x64 (Satellite Pro C660-2JR)

Answer:Recovery disks creation for Satellite Pro C660-2JR

If your notebook was delivered with 64bit version you can create recovery disc for this preinstalled version only. With other words, recovery image saved on recovery partition will be saved on empty DVD disc. Nothing more than that.

If you want to use 32bit OS you must check if your notebook model is supported for it and install own version.

I bought a couple of days a go a new Satellite C660-121. Today I proceeded to make the recovery discs but it fails verifying the first DVD disc.
The error I get is this
http://img231.imageshack.us/i/failedcopy.png/

E:\ is the name of the DVD drive. I use Verbatim DVD-R media, I have the laptop on power supply during the burning process and I tried twice with two different discs and got the same result. How can I fix this problem?

Answer:Satellite C660-121 can't verify the recovery disc

Hello Voger

I have created numerous recovery DVD on several Toshiba notebooks and have never noticed something like this. I have used DVD-R discs only and brands were Verbatim or TDK.

Unfortunately I cannot give you answer what does this message means but you must try to repeat DVD creation. If possible try with TDK.
If the same happen again I recommend you to recovery your notebook using HDD recovery option and try to create recovery discs again.

Sorry but I don?t see any other possibility at the moment.

Hi
I have tried to restore a Satellite C660 to factory settings due to it be extremely slow to start up.

Using the Toshiba original recovery discs the process gets partway through and then gives the following messages...

Error restoring image
The device is not ready

ERROR: ImageX could not apply Win7 V:\HDDRecovery\SWImg\15489XSP.swm Index 2 from HDD to C:!

Can anybody advise?!
Thanks

Unfortunately there is no some ?workaround? to force recovery image installation to run properly.
All you can do at the moment is to set BIOS to default settings and try to use recovery disc again.
Be sure disc is clean.

Do you use recovery discs for the first time?

Hi,

laptop was accidentally dropped, worked okay at first but now won't load,
using f12 key to boot menu, the screen says,

pxe-e61 media test failure-check cable.
also pxe-m0f; exiting
pxe rom, operating system not found. can anyone please explain waht this means?

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-v10 does not boot: pxe-e61 media test failure

The codes you are getting relate to the computer "setting itself up" before loading Windows and finding either what must be there missing or something that the BIOS says is there but missing. I believe the "check cable" message is generated when the pre-execution enviroment (pxe) looks for a device on a known connection and gets no response. This could be that a cable is not connected or the cable is perfect but the device is "broken" and is not responding to the pxe request.

I don't know anything about c660.
Can you access the BIOS? - is there anything greyed out or missing.
Can you change the boot order so that the CD is first and then see if the computer can start to run from a Windows CD.

(I would think its the HDD - I would think a mechanical device is more likely to give up than the electronics)

Hello all,

I have a Toshiba Satellite C660. I am trying to restore the laptop to the initial condition by the simple HDD Recovery. I have lost my old recovery disks. After completing first few initial steps, it goes to 'finishing installation' page and then gives an error message. After clicking to the dialog box 'ok' it resumes as 'Finishing installation' again. And now it has been almost 2 hours. It is still there. No improvement. What should I do ?

If I turn off the computer will my windows be completely destroyed?

Hello,

Not a licensed image, there was no desire to put, the assembly is an assembly, naturally installed such an operating system behaved badly, buggy.

Done, and now the laptop does not work.
In the service center installation of OS and drivers costs 3500 rbl.

Offensively. So I'm looking for help on the forum.

Answer:Re: Satellite C660-10T Problem creating recovery disc

Toshiba recovery disc can be created with preinstalled ?Toshiba recovery media creator tool? ONLY.
So I don?t understand why you use Microsoft and Nero software.

Have you checked User?s manuals document and chapter about recovery media creation?

For recovery DVD creation I recommend you to use DVD-R empty medias only.

Toshiba recovery media creator cannot be downloaded from Toshiba download page. This tool is integrated in recovery image.
I really don?t understand how this exe file can disappear for no reason. With clean preinstalled recovery image it must work properly.

If you didn?t create recovery DVD there is only one way to get it work again: you must install whole OS using HDD recovery installation. After doing this you will have ?factory settings? again and this tool will work properly again.

Hello...

I've got a Toshiba Satellite L10-103 and I want to do the recovery, since I?ve got constant errors and my wireless isn't working.

When I put in CD everything is ok, I press F12 and get the choice from which point I want to access computer. I select CD/DVD drive. Than Product recovery starts up and I get this error message:

'Wrong machine! This software is designed for TOSHIBA Personal Computers'

What wrong with it?

Answer:"Wrong Machine" error occurs when I start recovery media on Satellite L10

Hi

Are you 110% sure that the Recover CD which you are using was designed for the Satellite L10-103?
Please check this!

But if you use the same Recovery CD which was delivered together with this notebook and you still get the same error message, then wrong DMI information which is stored on the motherboard could be responsible for this error message and could prevent from recovering.

This can happens if the motherboard was replaced and if the technician has not updated the DMI string.

The icon on the bottom toolbar has lost the Windows Media Player icon and I can no longer view any videos. I get a "server execution failed" message. It will not start from the Start menu; all I get is a very brief flash of a new window that then disappears.

The window appears empty but it flashes on and off so quickly it is impossible to be sure. I have not been adding any new programs; only the usual Microdsoft updates. I've tried going back to earlier restore points and also turning Media Features off and on again from the Start menu to no avail.

Any ideas as to what has happened and how I can fix it?

Hello, my Satellite C660 experiences technical problems while playing audio and video. I play 320 kb ripped mp3s in Winamp and usually watch youtube when the audio and video regularly glitch and jolt. These only happen about a second at a time but the noise is very noticeable and unpleasant and happens regularly when I am on my computer.

I thought it could be problem with CPU/memory but I literally only have Chrome and Winamp playing and have turned off a lot of programmes for startup. If there's anything I could do to fix this, any help would be greatly appreciated (even something to make the pauses less loud and noticeable!).

Answer:Satellite C660 - Jolts and glitches regulary while playing media

Hi saurus,

Do you notice this behavior on preinstalled Windows 7 version from Toshiba or is this your own installation?
Furthermore does it happen on internal speakers or headphone? Have you tested both?

It?s not always easy to say what the reason is but in your case I would try updating the sound driver. You can download a newer version on official Toshiba driver download page:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

Before you install the new version remove the old one first. Then restart your notebook and install the downloaded version of sound driver.

I have a brand-new Satellite Pro C660. It worked fine for a day, now it won't load windows. I didn't get around to creating the recovery disks as I've only had it a few hours (yes, yes, I know, should have been the first thing I did). All the data is present (but backed up to USB just in case) and I can see the HDDREcovery folder with all data intact. However, I can't run the app to create recovery disks. Does anyone know how to extract the images and create the media using only the command prompt? (I can get into command prompt by booting from a friend's Win 7 disk). All boot options from the laptop's own drives fail. It says "Windows Failed to Load", and I try Startup Repair but it doesn't find any errors. Any help/thoughts on this will be much appreciated!

So is the data on D safe if I use recovery?

thanks

Answer:Re: Satellite C660/C660D will using recovery erase data on D partition?

Hi

From my knowledge using Recovery Disk would format the whole HDD and all partitions would be created again during this process.
This means that your data on D partition is not safe.

But from my experience the usage of HDD recover would format only the system (C) partition? not quite sure if this applies to all the Toshiba notebooks so possibly you should test this first time? in such case would recommend backup the data in case D partition would be erased.

Hi all

Just a query
My GF turned on her laptop Satellite C660 series and it would not boot up, we tried to initiate the recovery sequence from the recovery partition but kept getting the error that was on boot up (the error was telling us a USB device had been unplugged).

As you probably guessed she never made the back-up discs when prompted, all I could think of was using a win 7 disc and reload that way then try and make the recovery discs after (I didn't activate)
so win 7 was installed nicely and all drivers sourced that was all last week.
Now for the crunch , the recovery partition is there can I now make the recovery discs and install from those , the win 7 I installed will soon require activation
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite C660 - recovery partition is there but can I make back up discs?

After own OS installation you cannot create recovery disc anymore and you can not install recovery image using HDD recovery option (F8 at start-up).

Best thing you can do now is to order original disc from Toshiba and use it for recovery image installation. It is definitely easiest way to have ?factory settings? again.
You can order it on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

Strange problem. My Satellite C660D-1FM was doing a bunch of updates from Microsoft (hadn't done any updates for ages as it was used by my daughter and not connected to the internet) and after they had completed it rebooted and I got the Toshiba splash screen and then nothing. Holding F8 gives the same problem, tried holding the '0' key while powering on and that was the same. Connected an external monitor and it's the same. I can get into the BIOS and everything looks fine.

So, thinking the hard drive might be faulty I fitted another hard drive and fully installed Win7 from a Microsoft DVD (SP1 and all updates) and everything works. I then thought I'd try and restore the laptop to default factory settings using the Toshiba recovery DVD's which Id created. All worked fine during the install, all 3 DVD's installed and it went through the setup procedure, laptop got to the end when it wanted to reboot, rebooted and now back to the same error - Toshiba splash screen is ok but then it just goes blank. To convince myself I wasn't going mad I then re-installed Win7 from my Microsoft DVD and it installs fine, does all updates and has worked all day today with no issue.

Anyone any idea what's going on?

Answer:Satellite C660 - blank screen after recovery image instalation

Hmmm... something like this should not happen.
Do you use recovery discs for the first time?
Have you noticed the same result on both HDDs?

Problem is that there is no much to do about that and there is no way to change anything while recovery installation runs or later when windows setup is in progress.

Try to set BIOS to default settings and simply try to install recovery image again.

I have a Satellite C660-10D that is within 1 Year Warranty that has suddently decided it doesn't want to boot up and gives a strange noise that sounds mechanical.

I've tried F2 & F11 options during boot but I keep coming back to the same messages whatever options I try:

Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller v1.23 (07/28/10)
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM
Operating system not found.

I can't get past this & get the laptop working, which leads to my second problem.

It is within warranty so I thought I would log for repair. The Serial number is recognised in the Support My Product section. But when I try to enter it in the repair section it says

ERROR: Serial Number not valid.
Please check and re-try.
Then gives a number to call that only works weekdays.

So I have what appears to be a broken laptop that I can't currently log for repair.
If you are able to help with either of these problems it would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Satellite C660-10D Operating System Not Found PXE-E61: Media test failure

Hi

I?m quite sure that the problem is related to the faulty HDD.
This would also explain the mechanical noise while booting.

The PXE-E61: Media test failure appears because the notebook tries to boot from LAN.
Why? Because the HDD could not be found and the CD/DVD drive does not contain a bootable disk.

So BIOS switched to LAN?

Therefore the HDD replacement should help you to sort out this issue.
If the warranty is valid, get in contact with an local ASP in your country. Maybe you could get a HDD which could be replaced easily?

Here is a database with all ASPs worldwide:

Answer:Satellite L850 wrong blank DVDs size and recovery media creator error

Hi

Don?t think that your ODD drive is faulty.
Fact is that there could be always an compatibility issue between the disks and ODD.
As far as I know user manual provides some info about good tested and compatible CDs and DVDs.

Would recommend using a disk which were the compatibility was tested.
Furthermore I recommend TDK ?R standard. My experience was good using such disks?

I'm trying to fix this laptop for a girl I know, I've built machines and fixed many before and this is my first time needing help but I am stumped.

Basically she told me her hard drive had stopped working, this was verified by a third party. I told her what hard drive to buy, she got it and I installed it.

I initially tried to install windows 7 from a USB, it was recognised in the but I was getting a failure.

I assumed something was up with the USB so tried to install from CD which is also failing:

[ CD/DVD&nbsp;&nbsp; TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633C] is failed<br><br>The hard drive is recognised.

I have tried changing the SATA controller mode to compatibility, which is the only other option from AHCI

Somewhere it pops up Media Test failure, check cable but very quickly so I barely can read it, but CD, hard drive and USB's are all recognised.

Any thoughts? I've had this laptop for a couple of weeks now, she is getting understandably impatient, please help :/

Hi there,

Trying to update one of my employees laptops with bios 1.50 (C660) and it is displaying an error message displaying 3 possible causes. Ac adapter not plugged in (it is) battery is less than 10% (it isnt) and BIOS is more up to date than version 1.50. When I tried the update the laptop was currently running 1.00. "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)".

How do I go about repairing this fault?

Answer:Re: Satellite C660 - CD/DVD drive error code 19

Hey,

This is a known issue and there are already many threads here in forum about error code 19 in device manager. Toshiba has already released an FAQ regarding this article:
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/FAQ82023A0000R01.htm

To get rid of this you have to delete the upper- and lowerfilters in Windows registry:

1.Start > Run > Regedit
2.Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
3.In the right pane, delete the "UpperFilters" key, and delete the "LowerFilters" key.
4.Reboot.

Is there a pre made ISO recovery image somewhere or do I have to make my own, because if I decide to unisntall some of these programs I might need it at a later date?

The second issue is with the TOSHIBA Accessiblity application which shows the FN keys, it does not seem to start. It worked the first day then I disabled all TOSHIBA applications from startup and I get the following error: "Registry is missing or may be broken.", I dont know why!

I have tried cleaning the registry, so the registry isnt broken.

*Thanks in Advance*

Answer:Satellite C660 - TOSHIBA Accessibility Error

Hi Humza,

I?m happy to hear that you?re an owner of Toshiba notebook too and you discovered the forum here. We can discuss everything about Toshiba notebooks, that?s interesting :)

I will try to help you to sort this out:

1.Yes, there is a premade recovery image to restore factory settings with all driver and tools on your notebook but important is you burn this image on a blank DVD using preinstalled recovery media creator. You will get a disk with an image of Windows with all drivers and tools => ?out of box settings?. So the same settings as you purchased the computer.

2.I think the FN keys don?t work anymore because you disabled some important Toshiba tools they are necessary for FN keys. For FN keys the startup items ?TOSHIBA Button Support? and ?TOSHIBA Flash Cards? are absolutely necessary so you should enable them and restart the computer.

Some background processes which could not be closed properly?
Some installed software like Antivirus, cleaners, etc?
Hardware problems???
Its simply not possible to say why an update did not function?

>can i get any help on this please?
As far as I know the ROM module should be flashed again using an crisis disk.
This can be done by an Toshiba service agents.

Hi,

Can someone please help,

I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite C660/C660D for my nephew, We have forgotten the administrator password and we don't have password reset disk is there anyway around this.

Thanks

Answer:I forgot my administrator password on Satellite C660/C660

Hi

I assume you are talking about windows system password and not about BIOS password. Right?
It?s not very big problem if you forgotten the System password but if you mean BIOS password then you are in trouble because the BIOS password can be deleted just by an Toshiba ASP technicians?

So I assume you mean Windows password? so start the notebook and press F8
Now you can choose Repair my Computer and then choose HDD recovery.
This would start a HDD recovery procedure which would reinstall the system? during the setup you can set anther admin password.

Of course there are some other methods but as far as I know this requires 3rd party software/tools or Win 7 DVD? so I think the HDD recovery is the fastest solution.

I have just received my T400 a few days ago. And I have a huge dissatisfaction of how lenovo software recovery works. My percieved perception of it was that just like anyother factory furnished softwares - they are unstable and ineffective - I was provent right.  I spent the first few days burning Windows Anytime Upgrade with Orev's Licensing technique, burn the SWTOOLS folder, and created the bootable rescue and recovery disc. And to cover everything I tested each and everysingle one. Oddly, when i burned the recovery disc the first startup disc had a mere an inch of marked write on the dvd. Subsequently I burned the rest of the dvds. I have 3 dvds.  Yesterday I tested them. And I inserted the first bootable startup and it started the Thinkvantage application - then it prompted me to insert the Windows recovery.  I load in the next dvd and voila - IT IS THE INCORRECT CD. I tried every recovery disc I had - and it it still the wrong one. I had to skip this part and start installing the drivers - because I wanted to exit. There are no way I can stop the application other than skipping that procedure. When it commence installing the driver - I cancel it and rebooted. And what happened next sank my heart into the pit of my gut. 'Error: No bootable media found.' Hello all, i am in need of help here.

I have a Satellite C660-26G, 2 days old and a USB memory stick has been removed from the laptop while it was working, and I believe caused some sort of corruption.

The machine starts, passes the logo, and the windows loading bar in white comes along bottom of the screen. It freezes about 1/3rd of the way along, and then throws up an error screen stating the following:

"Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer. This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while the drive is in use .... and so on ...."

It states to plug it back in and restart the machine.

I have tried this and always the same, i have even plugged it into both ports available, and to no avail, the same problem exists.

Now searching the forum I thought nothing more of restoring to the factory settings as there were no physical discs supplied with the new machine.

Using the reboot and F8 method results in no action and same error in the end.

Bottom of the error screen states;

Status: 0xc00000e9
Info: An unexpected I/O error has occurred.

Please help ???

Answer:Satellite C660-26G - unexpected error after removing USB stick

Hi

Whether this issue has any relation to the incident with you USB stick or not (I don't think so since modern OS'es simply aren't so unstable) it still seems your unit is in need of professional attention.
This is not something that is possible to fix without further hardware diagnosis.

I would suggest to call your local support or talk to your dealer about how to get your unit to service.

Answer:Disk error and black screen on Satellite c660-21z

Hi

It looks like an problem with HDD.
Please check if the HDD is recognized in BIOS. Power up the unit and press F2.
Usually this should help to access the BIOS.
At the first BIOS page the HDD should be mentioned? is it?
If not then this means that HDD is dead and needs to be replaced?

By the way: you did not post the notebook model? but if it?s 3 weeks old, then you have to get in contact with an Toshiba service if the HDD would be faulty? you should get a new one free of charge because the warranty should be valid.

Hi buddy,

Have you installed all drivers for your notebook? Missing driver like chipset or something else could cause this error.

Also install Value Added Package as Administrator. An user account with without administrator rights will not help you. Last but not least unzip all files before you start the installation.

Check this!!!

I've only had my laptop (Satellite C660-23M) for three months, I started having problems with it about a week ago, including a Blue Screen of Death moment but I got the computer into Safe Mode and did a system restore and it has been fine since then. Then earlier today I got a Windows Hard Drive error, telling me to back-up and then repair or replace the Hard Drive. The back-up is going onto an external hard drive as we speak, so fingers crosssed I won't stand to lose all my data.

I did create a back-up media disc when I first got the laptop but everytime I tried it with validation on, it would fail but at the time, I didn't think I would need it so soon, so just created an un-validated copy and thought it'd be fine (I'm now concerned!).

Do I need to restore my hard drive? If so, how? What caused this? And considering it's only 3 months old, am I stuck with a duff laptop that will continue to break on me??

Answer:Satellite C660-23M Windows 7 Hard Drive Error

Hi

In your case I would recommend checking the HDD fitness.
This can be done using the freeware tool called HDD Drive Fitness Utility.
I assume that this software can help to detect some HDD errors.

If the HDD would be affected then you would need to replace the HDD.
Here you can find a nice instruction how to do that:
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=138

the notebook seems to be covered by warranty so the HDD can be replaced under warrant conditions means this can be done free of charge?
I would recommend asking the ASP (service partner in your country) for such HDD? they could send you such HDD.

Answer:Satellite C660 & Win XP Toshiba Power saver error 0x2

Can you please post exact notebook model? I just want to check if your notebook is full supported for WXP.
Anyway, before you start to install any Toshiba specific tool or utility you must install common modules at first.

Please test it.

From my experience it is not easy to fix now so it is also possible that you must reinstall WXP and install all drivers, tools and utilities in right install order.

Answer:Recovery Media Windows 10 Failed

@Bill_G1 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! Unfortunately, the integrity of the Recovery partition is essential in order to create HP Recovery Media.  Now that, apparently, it is gone, you have no way to do that. But do not despair -- there are better alternative available for free ... My suggestion is you consider using a third-party solution known as Macrium Reflect (MR).I prefer to use third-party recovery solutions for the following reasons:1) More flexibility and reliabilty -- can make recovery media as often as you like, not restricted to one attempt, which if it fails, then you are stuck.2) More media options -- can create media in DVD, USB stick, or external drive format3) Mounting option -- can "mount" the save images as virtual "drives" and extract individual files and folders4) WinPE boot option -- can install a special boot option that allows you to boot to recovery information and do a repair or restore from there -- when Windows will not bootWhat I recommend is the following:1) Download and install Macrium Reflect (MR) from here: http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx2) Run MR and choose the option: "Create an image of the partition(s) required to backup and restore Windows" to write a full backup to an external drive, USB stick, or DVDs3) Use the option to create a boot USB stick or CDMy experience is that MR, when using the High Compression option, typically can compress the saved image file to about 50% of the USED space... The creation of the recovery medium was not terminated properly because of a media error. A repetition allows the program (see Solution Center) not to do. It seems that the flag does not takes place only after successful completion. A corresponding in a ini or a registry - entry I could not find. What can I do to still create a DVD?

In a nutshell: Hard drive failed.Bought new Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB SSD to replace it.Ordered appropriate recovery media based on my serial number. Disk 1, 2, and the supplement disk with the drivers all loaded fine. It restarted the multiple times, and I was getting a typical Windows loading screen when that was happening. Then it goes back to the grey recovery media wizard background and I get a popup that says, "The recovery attempt has failed. Select one of the following buttons: Save log, Details, Retry. Tried retry, but I still get the same failure. The Details button produces the whole song and dance that there was some error during PININST_BBV, and to check the BurnBootWarn.log or BurnBootMerge.log. Has anybody successfully tackled this and come out the winner with a working computer once again? Why is this such a flippin' common problem!?!

Firstly I did the factory reset in BIOS and tried to boot from my external DVD (the recovery disk) after selecting the Boot the white dots spinning for a minute and screen going blank. Please if someone knows the proper BIOS settings and steps how to do it, kindly share with me.. :(

I just got an Ideapad N580 a few days ago & have been getting familiar with it.     I just updated the OKR utility to the latest version as of tonight.   Then I attempted to create Recovery Media for the first time, according to: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=HT076024    I bought a new 32GB USB 3.0 flash drive and intended to use that for the media, according to the instructions.   I captured the screen shots of progress toward creating the media.  See this PDF.    The last page shows that the flash drive was named RECOVERY and has about 18 GB of information on it.   I did not delete the original source partition on the original HDD.   My new recovery media didn't work.   I put a non-Win8 drive into my N580 (one that could not boot, although otherwise it was OK), and the RECOVERY drive into a USB 3.0 slot on the N580.    I got the LENOVO splash screen and flashing of the access LED on the flash drive, then the screen blanked and the cycle repeated endlessly.  Sometimes there was a rapid cycling of the splash screen and sometimes it froze up.   Apparently I had only one chance to create successful recovery media.  Now where do I turn?

Answer:Creation of Recovery Media failed

hi tresho,

Can you try to:
1. Restart the PC and repeatedly tap F2 on startup to boot into the BIOS
2. In the BIOS, navigate to the Boot Tab and set UEFI Boot to Disabled.
3. Press F10 to save and exit BIOS and repeatedly tap F12 to display the Boot Options
4. On the Boot Options, check if you see USB HDD / USB Key, and press Enter to boot from the flashdrive

Your USB recovery drive should now boot.

Let me know your findings

Hello, I've used the recovery media creator to create a USB flash drive recovery media.

If i then use that to restore the Windows 7 installation onto a new hard drive (as SSD) will that drive itself have the recovery media partition on it?

So if I then lose the USB stick could I restore again by holding down zero when powering on?

Or does it recover the Windows partition and nothing more?

Thank you

Hello,

Having recently set up a new Satellite C660-1ZM running Windows 7 64bit (upgraded from Home Premium to Ultimate) for a friend, the mousepad and USB ports have suddenly stopped working. The drivers show an exclamation mark against them and the error is "code 52" which is related to driver signing. Windows doesn't seem to recognise the driver signatures for the published drivers that came on the machine's pre-installed disc, so the devices don't work. I've updated the drivers (Intel chipset [which includes USB]; Synaptics touchpad) to the latest ones publised on the Toshiba web site - and we have the same problem.

Pressing F8 on boot allows you to select "disable checking of driver signing" in the WIndows 7 boot options, which then enables the drivers and all is well, until you reboot - at which point you have to hit F8 again.

I think that one of the many recent Windows updates has somehow messed things up, but we can't easily prove that. The machine worked fine for a week or so, then the mousepad suddenly quit working around 8th August 2012.

1) Are there valid signed drivers that pass whatever checks Microsoft impose on driver signing, including whatever checks they've potentially just imposed via some recently inflicted update?

2) Does anyone know exactly how to disable the checking of driver signing permanently, so that a reboot will not require the F8 keypress and so on?

Uninstalling the mousepad driver and rebooting gives the ba... Read more

Answer:Satellite C660-1ZM Win 7 64bit: mousepad and USB - "code 52" driver error

Hi

Did you receive the error that windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device? Usually this means the error code 52
Since the USB drivers are parts of the Windows OS, I don?t think that this could be an signature issue? I think some files are damaged.

Try to uninstalling/reinstalling the driver and deleting the device and it?s drivers from device manager before reinstalling.
Usually this should help, if not, well try to repair the system.

Power up the unit and press F8. Then choose Repair my Computer.
Now choose the first option which would help to repair the system.

The original HDD has issues. With the originally installed OS and my applications and files it would not complete a CHKDSK /R. Using Macrium Reflect I could not image or clone the C partition. It kept failing due to disk i/o errors. I was able to back up my user account and other important docs to a USB drive. So, no real data loss. I ordered a new HDD and prepared to make recovery discs and move everything over. However, during the Create Reovery Discs process (I was using Flash media--not discs), a message popped up saying that creating recovery media failed. The flash drive was 64gb, brand new out of the package. After the recovery creation attempt the flash drive was empty. No files had been written. So, I attempted to make recovery discs instead. But, now when I launch the media creator app I get the message "Recovery media has already been created for this computer. You can only do this once" ( I paraphrased...but basically--ya it won't let me try to create them again). So, I'm stuck. At this point I just want to install Windows 7 home premium (that shipped with the computer) and get all the device drivers installed. I have the HP product key on the bottom of the laptop. But, no way to install the OS. What do I do now?

Answer:Created recovery media-but it failed; Can't retry

If you didn't create your HP Recovery Media when you first setup your computer and waited until it the hard drive started to fail, it is likely that the recovery image was damaged and resulted in the failure you see. Because the computer is six years old, HP no longer sells recovery media for this model. Please see ComputerSurgeons.com Set #: 616567-002 for HP Recovery Discs for you computer. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Please click the white KUDOS star to show your appreciation

When I first got this product, before opening I thought that all the 500gb would go to the first partition, but then I saw that the recovery partition has half of the 500gb just for recovery which is unnessecery.

But I had no problem with this at the time, and used the recovery partition(after saving to a disk) for ubuntu so I could have a dual boot.

But now I've came to realise that the games I'm downloading are taking more and more room up on my C drive. The problem I have is that I can shrink my recovery partition and enlarge the C drive.

Does anyone know a work around?

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-225: Shrinking recovery partition englarge C partition

You will need an 3rd party software to shrink the recovery partition and to add the free space the existing C partition.
I would recommend you an freeware tool called Gparted

But before you would start doing this, create a recovery disk!
This is advisable in case you would try to set the notebook back to factory settings using such disk.
