Preferred Solution: Re: Satellite C660/C660D will using recovery erase data on D partition?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Re: Satellite C660/C660D will using recovery erase data on D partition?

Hi

From my knowledge using Recovery Disk would format the whole HDD and all partitions would be created again during this process.
This means that your data on D partition is not safe.

But from my experience the usage of HDD recover would format only the system (C) partition? not quite sure if this applies to all the Toshiba notebooks so possibly you should test this first time? in such case would recommend backup the data in case D partition would be erased.

Hi,

1st time forum poster so be gentle please!

My mum has just brought a Toshiba laptop and it's pretty decent to be fair. Taking a quick look at it though i noticed the recovery partition (that comes with most laptops now) is labelled "D:/Data and is 232GB in size. Seems a bit on the large side for me and wondering if it is incorrect?

Have got a screenshot and if someone could confirm either way i'd be most grateful. Can i attach screenshots?

Thanks in advance

When I first got this product, before opening I thought that all the 500gb would go to the first partition, but then I saw that the recovery partition has half of the 500gb just for recovery which is unnessecery.

But I had no problem with this at the time, and used the recovery partition(after saving to a disk) for ubuntu so I could have a dual boot.

But now I've came to realise that the games I'm downloading are taking more and more room up on my C drive. The problem I have is that I can shrink my recovery partition and enlarge the C drive.

Does anyone know a work around?

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-225: Shrinking recovery partition englarge C partition

You will need an 3rd party software to shrink the recovery partition and to add the free space the existing C partition.
I would recommend you an freeware tool called Gparted

But before you would start doing this, create a recovery disk!
This is advisable in case you would try to set the notebook back to factory settings using such disk.

Hi everyone !
I have Toshiba Sattelite C660-1J9 laptop, and it's been working fine - until a day my HDD died. Now it's producing some weird sounds on startup, and no HDD visible in BIOS. It's not a problem for me to buy new HDD and replace it, but I'd like to restore licensed Windows I had with laptop - so I need to place recovery partition on new HDD somehow. Is it possible and where I can find this recovery partition image ?
Thanks in advance !

Hi

I have a C660-1KT

It has a C drive with 149gb memory.
It also has a D drive marked Data with 148gb of memory; only 7gb of this is used.
Can I free up the remaining memory as my C drive is getting full.

Thanks

Answer:Satellite C660-1KT - can i delete data from D partition drive

The D partition contains the Toshiba Recovery image files.
If you delete this image files, you will not be able to perform HDD recovery procedure and you could not create the Recovery disks…

Therefore its strongly advisable to create recovery medium before deleting these image files!

Hi all

Just a query
My GF turned on her laptop Satellite C660 series and it would not boot up, we tried to initiate the recovery sequence from the recovery partition but kept getting the error that was on boot up (the error was telling us a USB device had been unplugged).

As you probably guessed she never made the back-up discs when prompted, all I could think of was using a win 7 disc and reload that way then try and make the recovery discs after (I didn't activate)
so win 7 was installed nicely and all drivers sourced that was all last week.
Now for the crunch , the recovery partition is there can I now make the recovery discs and install from those , the win 7 I installed will soon require activation
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite C660 - recovery partition is there but can I make back up discs?

After own OS installation you cannot create recovery disc anymore and you can not install recovery image using HDD recovery option (F8 at start-up).

Best thing you can do now is to order original disc from Toshiba and use it for recovery image installation. It is definitely easiest way to have ?factory settings? again.
You can order it on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

There is no option to disable it on this laptop, I have searched for the answer online but nothing, there seems to be no way to do it on this model of laptop. I tried downloading the new touchpad driver from this site but had absolutely no effect and gave me no more options to disable it, it changed nothing. Completely stuck now and its driving me crazy!

The mouse also clicks on its own randomly even when Im not touching it, always seems to get bad when im gaming.

I still want to use the touchpad to move the pointer around, just don't want to use it to click.

Answer:How do i disable tap-to-click on Satellite C660/C660D?

On my Satellite S50-B is installed ELAN software and tapping option can also not be disabled.

Explanation: one finger tapping always performs Point/Click/Select function, which is equivalent to clicking the left mouse button.

It is really strange that this option doesn't exist.

Anyway, if you don't need touchpad in general you can enable/disable it using Fx button (don't know exactly which one on this notebook model).

Dear reader,

I am struggling for days now with my Satellite C660/C660D 1FH (SN: 2C092277K).
I did a clean install of a legit Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) and installed the drivers in the correct way as maild to me by the Toshiba customer support.

But when I install the ATI videocard drivers it says "installing" but after that nothing is installed.
My laptop is still using the standard VGA adapter and my maximum resolution is 1024x768.

I called tech support several times but all they tell me is "install in the right order".

I did a clean install 3 times (4 in total) and followed their guide, but nothing. Is there anyone who can help me out on this matter as I am getting a little bit frustrated *lol*

Yours sincerely,

My Mum bought a Tosh Sat C660/C660D about 5 months ago. From day one,it has been slower than a snail with a cold.

*Problem:*
When you click on the start button, it can take a good 10 - 20 seconds for the menu to pop up. When you select say MS Word, that can take 30 - 40 seconds to load up. Even opening IE can take a good 30 second, and then theres the time for the website to open on top of this.

System monitor shows (CPU between 3% & 7%), (Physical memory (84% Used) : This is when system is at rest, not doing anything, no programs running.

Laptop has Celeron 1.5ghz, 1gb RAM and Windows 7 (64bit). I know its not like the BEST laptop out there, but I think is stud react a little quicker than it is doing.

Dont have a lot installed, mainly MS office. No games or graphic programs.

***WHAT IVE DONE SO FAR***

* Done the Toshiba, build in system recovery. (Several times)
* Reg Clean, System Clean, Defrag
* Updated BIOS & Chip Set

Any Ideas????????

>System monitor shows (CPU between 3% & 7%), (Physical memory (84% Used)

In my opinion you should upgrade the RAM.
84% is already used by system therefore it takes much longer to start other application.
Your notebook use 1GB RAM running Win7 64bit?dude? I don?t not wonder that your notebook is running slow.

I recommend updating the RAM to 2GB or better 3GB or 4GB RAM

I have a satellite C660/C660D laptop and, having been nagged for months by windows pop-ups which said that my machine is suitable and eligible for an upgrade to windows 10, I finally gave in and clicked to receive the upgrade to windows 10.

(The machine came with windows 7 and had worked fine for me)

After the "upgrade" to windows 10 things like email and internet searches worked fine and so (apart from having to find my way around the screen anew) I was happy. Just recently though I tried to use interactive graphs on some of the websites I use and, instead of the graphs that I usually see, I got a rectangle with a chequered pattern and nothing else. The next problem was with my disc player, which was not even recognised.
A friend who is more IT savvy than me suggested that I should check that I still had Javascript (needed for the interactive stuff so he said). I found that Java was missing completely and so downloaded it again; after this the interactive graphs worked for a day. The next morning the interactive stuff had disappeared and Java was once again missing from the listed programmes.
My friend suggested that I have a disc in the player and then start the machine; this worked and I got my sound back - - - but no picture. My friend suggested I update Adobe Flash, which I tried resulting in a string of links each of which suggested that Adobe Flash has serious security issues.

The next problem is that Youtube and other video sources will n... Read more

Hi folks,

I have a new Satlellite A200 and it will not boot up. Tried running recovery CDs but no joy.
Could someone please tell me, if I selected

'Erase Hard Disk' then 'Delete all data and partitions from the hard disk'

would this also delete the computer's internal recovery partition?

I have the recovery CDs but as I said, they don't work and I was wondering if clearing the HDD completely then running the recovery from the HDD recovery partition would help.

Sorry if this is a basic question for you guys! I've read through hundreds of threads, but can't find a definitive answer.

Thanks in advance,
E.

If you mean the hidden Vista WinRE partition then; YES

But don?t worry buddy; The Toshiba Vista recovery CD would format the whole HDD and would erase all partitions but it creates the hidden Vista WinRE partition again on the HDD.

So this morning after trying to power up my Toshiba Satellite C660/C660D I was met with a black screen.

The power lights both work and light up, the fans whirl when I power up but nothing ever comes up on the screen, I was wondering if anyone could help here?

It's less than 3 months old.

Answer:Satellite C660/C660D will not boot up (black screen)

To be honest I really don?t know how to help you.
Remove battery, leave notebook for a while and try to start notebook with AC power supply only. Try to do it several times with and without battery. If nothing helps there must be some hardware problem so I recommend you to contact Toshiba service and ask for help.

Warranty is valid so there is no reason to be worried about it.

Could someone tell me what I need to buy to be able to use my dial up connection (there doesn't seem to be a built in modem).

I would also like to be able to use the wifi internet at MacD's what do I have to do to be able to do this ?

Thanks for any help ;-)

Answer:Satellite C660/C660D - Dial Up Modem and Wi-Fi Question

Hi LaVidalerie,

To setup an dial up internet connection you need an external modem like [THIS|http://www.amazon.co.uk/Zoom-56k-V-92-External-Modem/dp/B00294EQ5U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1302532267&sr=8-1] one. You can connect it to your computer via USB port and then you can plug in the phone cable.

Regarding the WLAN connection: I don?t know what you mean with ?MacD?s? but you should ask the local system administrator how to setup the WLAN connection and what settings are required.

Check this!!!

Answer:Satellite C660/C660D - lost restoring disc

Toshiba notebooks can be restored to ?factory settings? on two ways:
1- Using Toshiba recovery DVD
2- HDD recovery installation as described on - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R01.htm

If none of these ways work for you, you must order new recovery disc on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

Answer:Satellite C660/C660D - shift key causes the screen to go black

Hi

> I am disappointed to see the shift key (left) as well as the CTRL key causing the screen to go black intermittently when typing my blog...

What does this means exactly? Pressing SHIFT and CTRL button disable the display and you are not able to see anything on the monitor?
Is this right?

Did you check if this happens using an external USB keyboard too?
If not, I would assume that your keyboard malfunctions and needs to be replaced.

A friend of mine has had a issue with my keyboard. The cursor jumped around and some characters were displayed twice? this could be solved by BIOS update?I?m not sure if your notebook uses the latest BIOS but you could check this too.

Hello Toshiba community

I'm a new Toshiba user, I have a new laptop of Toshiba as model of it's Satellite C660 / C660D, I'm using my new laptop for 6 months and I'm kind of having a lot of time on my laptop. Sometimes I keep it open for more than 10 hours.

My problem is like 3-4 months ago at the right-bottom of the screen a warning came out like "There is something wrong with your hard-disc, you should give it to any Toshiba service for the guarantee".
But that's happened because I played on the users, I mean the users option for windows, not something about hardware, just changing the current user's name caused this and it now has weird name when I reversed the name change; it turned to something like TOSH~1 etc.

After several time, I mean like 1 month ago my computer got very slow. I was playing video games with their high resolution but now the laptop lags even I put them at low resolution.. I didn't change any hardware or touched it. But it's frustrating to see that I can't do the things that I used to do anymore.

Another thing is, I'm scared from laptop's heat. Is it normal to have 49-50 degrees? Because when I play games it's around that degree. I live in a hot city.

Some people offered me to use HD Tune to check if I have a bad sector on hdd, I did it. Didn't work either.
I deleted some of my files to get free space on my HDD also, likely 150 gigs at total. I even wiped the empty area in my HDD via CCleaner. I often do the registery-fix w... Read more

Answer:Re: Overheating and lagging issues on Satellite C660/C660D

It is not easy to say what is wrong there. Generally speaking you should think about upgrading RAM to maximum level. With more RAM notebook should have more ?power? and different operations should be done much faster.

To make my notebook better and faster I?ve upgraded RAM to maximum level and also changed HDD to SSD. There is so big difference and now notebook runs as rocket. Think about RAM upgrade.
>Another thing is, I'm scared from laptop's heat. Is it normal to have 49-50 degrees?
From my point of view this temperature is normal and definitely not too high. When you use your notebook place it on the desk and be sure cooling fan and cooling grill are free and not blocked.

Don?t open your notebook. You cannot do anything anyway, except to cancel your valid warranty. RAM upgrade can be done by notebook owner and it will not cancel your warranty.

Hi,

Answer:Satellite C660/C660D - Webcam colour or black and white?

Hi

Of course it?s color cam.
It?s a common webcam? Do you have just black/white webcam picture?
In your case I recommend checking the webcam software options.
Start the Camera Assistant software and in the Properties you could find the option called ?Backlight Compensation?. Check this option.
Furthermore in the ?Image? tab you will find some controls like: brightness, gamma, hue, saturation and sharpness. Play around with these settings.

I'm trying to fix this laptop for a girl I know, I've built machines and fixed many before and this is my first time needing help but I am stumped.

Basically she told me her hard drive had stopped working, this was verified by a third party. I told her what hard drive to buy, she got it and I installed it.

I initially tried to install windows 7 from a USB, it was recognised in the but I was getting a failure.

I assumed something was up with the USB so tried to install from CD which is also failing:

[ CD/DVD&nbsp;&nbsp; TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633C] is failed<br><br>The hard drive is recognised.

I have tried changing the SATA controller mode to compatibility, which is the only other option from AHCI

Somewhere it pops up Media Test failure, check cable but very quickly so I barely can read it, but CD, hard drive and USB's are all recognised.

Any thoughts? I've had this laptop for a couple of weeks now, she is getting understandably impatient, please help :/

Recovery image is on one language only so you cannot choose some different language. Recovery images are country specific so if you have recovery image for UK you must install language by default (English).

Hi all, I have a coiple of quick question.

I've just restored MS windows 7 from an image, but it scrubbed my D: :-( (and forced me to format the drive - D: :( ). Therefore, my 'D: HDD recovery files' are now gone :( . Luckily I created a set of recovery disks (2DVD's) when I got the Laptop several years ago.

Question: Does it matter that I no longer have the files on D: (will the recovery DVD's be able to restore my laptop to factory settings etc)

Question: Also, is there a way to restore the 'D: HDD recovery files' (putting it back onto the D:) using the DVD's (just a long shot) or is there anywhere I can download the file set from? If so, do I just put them on the D: under HDD recovery (or something like that - please advise)

Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated :) .

Answer:Satellite C660D-194 - missing HDD reovery files on partition D

Hi

At first I would like to answer your questions.
> Does it matter that I no longer have the files on D: (will the recovery DVD's be able to restore my >laptop to factory settings etc)
Recovery DVDs are designed as bootable media for original recovery image installation. Answer is yes.
> Also, is there a way to restore the 'D: HDD recovery files' (putting it back onto the D:) using the DVD's (just a long shot) or is there anywhere I can download the file set from?
When you use recovery DVDs for recovery image installation recovery image will be copied to the HDD. Recovery image download is not possible.

Now I want to write few words about laptops recovering.
Every new notebook delivered with preinstalled operating system has saved recovery image on HDD. On older machines it was saved in separate folder on partition D. On newer machines it is saved on small hidden partition. As back up (recommended) you must create recovery DVDs. This DVDs can be used if you cannot install recovery image from HDD directly (HDD recovery) or HDD is defective and you need to install recovery image on new HDD.
Before recovery image installation starts, HDD partitions will be created and recovery image copied on HDD, so every time you use recovery DVDs you will have notebook with ?factory settings? including recovery image copy on the HDD.

Theoretically it is NOT possible that you have installed recovery image but there is no recovery image saved on the HDD.

I don?t want... Read more

My niece asked me to re-install her Toshiba Satellite L300 laptop, because the windows installation is rather buggy. She didn't have a recovery disk. Using Toshiba's Recovery Disk Creator I tried creating a recovery disk.

However, the program wouldn't start. Checking the directory of the program, it would seem that the program simply isn't there. Afterwards, I checked the data partition of the laptop.

There was a map with HDD recovery. However when using Windows' advanced boot (F8 before Windows startup) there was no choice of repairing the notebook. They only choices were the standard windows options (Save mode, normal start, etc.).

In short, it seems impossible to re-install the notebook with the current information at hand.
What would be the next course of action? Is it possible to order a recovery CD from Toshiba?

Another niece has the same notebook, would it be possible to use that notebook to create a recovery disk?

I'll appreciate and look forward to your reactions.

Hi

I recently tried to update my bios (because i got a message from tempro telling my it needed updateing) which has left my laptop C660D effectively dead - blank screen on start up.

I am in the process of creating a crisis recovery disk and the guidance i have obtained from the net tells me I need to extract the .ROM file from the correct BIOS update for my laptop and add it onto the crisis recovery disk.

However when I unpack the Bios update for a Tosh c660D I see there are 2 folders, each with 2 .ROM files in them.

Folder DIS

BIOS.rom (2048KB)
EC.rom (128KB)

Folder UMA)

BIOS.rom (2048KB)
EC.rom (128KB)

The files with the same names in both folders look identifical to one another. but can anyone advise which is the correct ROM I should drop onto the Crisis Recovery Disk

Hi, my dtr has the above notebook, only purchased in sept 2012 (so not too happy!!), and a month or so ago it had a "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL" problem, so advice was to reinstall Windows and all drivers.

I did try a few re-installs but in the end just did a full recovery (F8-Advanced boot- Repair your computer), and although i can log on in safe mode i cannot log on in normal mode. It went through the first Toshiba installation screen ok (loading drivers etc...35/35) but then when it says finishing installation it just goes on for hours and hours. I have tried going back to the Advanced boot screen (F8) and maybe doing a re-repairing the Windows, but now the "Repair your computer" prompt is not showing on the screen.

I have been told that i will probably need Recovery discs (she forgot to make them!) but not happy with having to pay 35.90eurs for them bearing in mind age of the machine and the amount of use it has had! Needless to say there wont be any more Toshiba products in this household for a good while....

Any info to a limited knowledge techy would be much appreciated...

Answer:Satellite C660D won't reload after Recovery

> Needless to say there wont be any more Toshiba products in this household for a good while....
Please don't be mad on me but I would like to start with this last sentence. I?m really wondering you wrote this. Toshiba systems are not different than other systems offered by other notebook manufacturers. None of them put recovery discs in the box and there is no big difference between Toshiba and some other non-Toshiba notebook.
It is strongly recommended creation of back-up recovery disc that can be used in case if there is some problem with HDD or preinstalled OS.

Anyway, you have two options now: either you can order original recovery disc and install original recovery image (factory settings) or you can install OS using original Microsoft installation disc. Al necessary drivers, tools and utilities can be downloaded from Toshiba download page - http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp

If you will decide to install own OS and need some assistance please let us know.

Hello

I have big problem with my laptop, Satellite C660D-1CU.
When I go to start then all programs and Toshiba, and then Toshiba recovery media creator this message is on the display:

Creating the recovery media is impossible!
Can not find the HDD recovery folder on the second drive of the first hard disk. This computer has no valid environmental restoration of hard disk.

Can someone help me because I really need my pc back to factory settings because I have too many bugs.

Answer:Cannot create recovery media on my Satellite C660D-1CU

Such problem occurs if Toshiba recovery creator tool cannot find recovery image on the HDD. There are many reasons for that. Recovery image can be deleted, removed or HDD partitions structure is maybe changed. Just with original settings and original HDD condition this will work.

Unfortunately now you will not be able to create recovery media or start HDD recovery installation.
What you can do is to order new and original recovery DVD for your notebook model and it can be done on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

I am doing a recovery procedure on the C660D and disks load and set up but then as system starts to coordinate the features it appears to lock on the Realtek Audio set up. Is there a revised procedure that sorts this. My recovery discs came with the machine so are a few years old now. Can I download an improved procedure? Any help will be appreciated.

Hey Folks,
I had a problem with a virus on that sat pro, so I decided to totally erase the hdd to get rid of that virus. Bevor I did that, I saved everything from partiton D including the recovery path and after erasing of course I copied everything back at it's place (second partition).
Now trying to recover and don't know how to do it. F11, F10 and F8 seems not to work. Do I need the Recovery media created with recovery media creator or can I still use the recovery path on the new D: partition?
Thanks for your help in advance,
Stefan

Answer:Recovery on Sat Pro C660-2KM with new HDD with restored Recovery partition

Unfortunately recovery procedure doesn?t work on this way.
What you need now is recovery disc.
Generally speaking recovery image on second partition is useless and you will not be able to start it.

I am getting a message that hard drive disc D is full but I only use Drive C. I thought that D was for Recovery items. How can I decide what items should not be in D and how how do I decide what to delete/move?

Answer:Satellite C660 - partition D is full but I only use partition C

> I thought that D was for Recovery items
This is not 100% correct.
Of course the Toshiba recovery files are placed in the recovery folder on the D partition BUT this does not mean that you cannot store other files on this partition.
You can.

>. How can I decide what items should not be in D
Before you save the files on the HDD, you will be asked for the place. You can always decide where such files should be stored.

> and how do I decide what to delete/move?
It?s your own decision to say what files you want to move / delete.
If you don?t care about some files and if some files are not important to you, you could delete it.

I install always my programs on C system partition. But ?stand alone? files like music (mp3 files), pictures (jpeg, jpg, etc...) I save always on another partition

hello i have a sony vaio F11(2010 MODEL).i think to shell it .also as i posted a few days ago the oem recovery partition is corrupted and isn't regognised anymore after upgarding to win 8.1 but i do not care to fix it anymore.i have two quetsions:
1) i want to erase -wipe(i dont know what is the right expression) oem recovery partition to release storage.the recovery partition is unused so it's shame to occupy space.i want a good software to remove-erase-wipe recovery partition.Do you have to propose something?
2)also if i shell laptop i want to erase completely main c drive (with operating system).can you tell me , how and with what program can i do it?

Answer:erase main c drive and OEM recovery partition

You can delete the OEM recovery partition in Disk Management. Then add the unallocated space to another partition, or just create a blank partition in the free space.
One way to erase everything is to do a clean install. You just delete all partitions during the install and then let Windows create new ones.

Hi all!

I have Toshiba Satellite C660-1GK for about year and a half. After 6 months my hard disk drive died.

First the laptop got really slow and then started the famous clicking sound from the disk.
I've made backup and checked the drive with Hirens tools. Toshiba diag won't even read it, S.M.A.R.T. said that his health is poor (30% or so), bad sectors started popping out.. so I've took the laptop to my ASP.

They replaced the disk and then, 13 months later (a week ago) the same story! Disk health went even lower (was at 11%) and bad sectors started jumping out like maniacs.
Again a trip to ASP.

I've got my laptop today with a new disk. After reading posts on this forum, I'm worried that it's or motherboard/power supply problem or we're just all with bad luck with drives.

I just can't accept that disks randomly die every 4-12 months as an answer. My last disk on HP laptop lasted 4 years! I have about five more months of warranty and I'm really not happy with situation. This laptop is on my work desk, has it's own station with a nice, big fan so it's not overheating - basically I've took it out of house last September.

I'm careful with it! But if this drive dies before end of year, maybe it's time to get a new laptop.
Not Toshiba this time :(

Please, do you have any thoughts, advices..?

Answer:Satellite C660-1GK - HDD partition C issue

Hi

Some years ago i purchased an notebook from another manufacturer.
My first HDD died after more than 2 years of usage. I bought another one, replaced the old HDD and the new HDD died after 4 month of usage.

Any HDD will die sooner or later because its expendable part? it?s a matter of HDD usage and matter of how you handle the unit.

In my opinion it?s a bad luck? of course its always pity if an HDD start to malfunction but I?m afraid there are no many options to prevent it.
Of course you could switch to an SSD drive which is much stable in use. I did it some month ago? I purchased the 250GB SSD drive and replaced the internal HDD

Hi

I have been given a Satellite C660 to fix that will not restore. I can use F8 (or 0) to get into "REPAIR YOUR COMPUTER" but the screen just goes black. I have booted from a Linux disk and the "Data" partition seems OK although I have no way to check every file. What are my options? Is there any way to create restore disks from this state?

Thanks
Tim

Answer:Satellite C660 won't restore, partition looks OK

Options?
I assume you did not create Recovery Disk in the past. Correct?

Well, in such case try to access the HDD recovery partition (using Linux???) and check if you could use the recovery image files in order to create the recovery USB flash stick as described here:
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD4103KB0000R01.htm

Otherwise I think you would need to order the recovery disk from Arvato in order to recover the notebook.
Of course if you own Microsoft windows installation medium, you could use it to install the system too? drivers could be downloaded from Toshiba EU driver page

I have restored my Toshiba Satellite C660-217, Wndows 7 laptop to the factory default but when I checked in the computer folder, the Data (D) space (149gb) is all used up. When I checked the individual folders in Data (D) it does not add up to 149gb.

I was just wondering why this is and is there anything that I can do?
Thank you.

Answer:Satellite C660-217 Wndows 7 - 149gb Data (D) used

Have you installed recovery image from DVD disc or using HDD recovery option?
When you use HDD recovery option partition D will not be changed and all saved data will be still there.

We don't know which data is saved there and how it looks like so it is not easy to explain what s wrong there.
If you have recovery DVD next time you can install recovery image using this disc. With other words, you can format partition D and delete all stuff.

Hello,

I have a Toshiba Satellite L505, using Windows 7 Home Premium. I have created a "Recovery Disk" using Toshiba Recovery Media Creator, saved into a USB pendrive.

My hard drive is split into 2 partitions (using Disk Management, in Computer Management), the main one, C: contains the OS and all my installed software, and the secondary, D:, all my data.

I would like to reinstall Windows 7 using the recovery pendrive, but my question is: will that erase the main partition, C: only, or it will delete everything in D: as well?

Thank you very much!

Answer:Satellite L505: would recovery erase all my partitions?

> will that erase the main partition, C: only, or it will delete everything in D: as well?

The Toshiba Recovery Disk would format the whole HDD and would also erase all the partitions which are created on the HDD?
Therefore you should backup the data on an external medium (USB HDD, disk, USB flash memory, etc?) before running the recovery procedure?

I ordered a set of 2 Toshiba recovery CD's and received them yesterday in order to fix this laptop from a Windows breakdown...

The problem arising at start up is that Windows 7 isn't starting up plus that the hard disk doesn't show in the BIOS (the DVD-drive does) and after the boot sequence the following message comes up: ?Reboot and select proper boot device or insert root media in selected boot device? Someone suggested the drive is broken or the cables to the same detached or lose.

The owner says, that the error first appeared after McAfee offered to "remove 15 errors found on the disk". The laptop has never been opened.

When running the recovery CD 1 the boot sequence starts the recovery but initially shows two pop-ups that indicate that the hard disk cannot be found.

First error message - ERROR: IOCTL_DISK_GET_LENGTH_INFO \\. \PHYSICALDRIVE0 The device is not ready.

Second error message says something like - There is no access to disk #0 or the RAID configuration isn't correct!

After accepting both messages the prompt hands out the error that also appears in this thread...

...and stops at this line...

X:\ windows\ system32 >

...reporting that the recovery failed.

I have fooled around with the advices in this thread...

[http://superuser.com/questions/318322/... Read more

Answer:Recovery CD's do not recover Satellite C660-1WN

(...continued from first post...)

Left to be said is that I also - before I ordered the recovery CDs - ran the second diagnostic DOS tool in the first table to check the disk and got the following report...

- HDD power cable is not properly attached to the HDD

- HDD interface cable is not properly attached to the HDD

- HDD master-slave setting is incorrect

...and equally that no disk could be detected.

My question is now..., what is wrong here? Is it the physical disk that might be the problem? Is it the software? MBR? Can the latter be restored by some command in the prompt? If, then how? Would it be easier to erase the whole disk and then use the recovery CDs? Or won't this work since the recovery CDs can only work with the recovery information on the disk (I assume that this information is only physically on the disk not on the recovery CDs, isn't this correctly understood)?

I am looking forward to any input and help. Thanks in advance.

Apologies if this is the wrong subforum:

Being the idiot I am, I changed my WIndows Login password and since I use very long passwords, I have no idea what I changed it to. Guessing is out of the question.

So I powered on my laptop while holding the 0 key, which brought me to the Windows Boot Manager screen. I pressed F8 on Windows 7 for advanced options and opted for 'Recovery Mode' as I have used this in the past to install the OS from scratch.

It asks me to select a keyboard layout and then enter my username and password to procede with HDD Recovery. It is this lack of password which is the reason for recovery.

Any advice on what I can do?

Thanks

Answer:HDD Recovery Issue on C660 Satellite

On this step you must enter your Windows login name and login password. Without right password you will not be able to start HDD recovery installation.

There is second option to install recovery image. You can do it now using recovery DVD. Have you created it using preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator?

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-1LR - New HDD but no recovery disc

> I am trying to avoid having to purchase anything to costly.
Problem is that you don't have many options about that.
If you want to have ?factory settings? again you need recovery installation disc. You can order it on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx Of course it is not for free but, in my opinion, definitely the best solution.

You can buy Microsoft installation disc and install own version. You must buy valid licence for it.
In this case you must install all necessary drivers, tools and utilities additionally one by one.

Just in case that you can get this Microsoft installation and licence for free you can save some money.

Believe me the best solution is original recovery disc order.

Hi there,

I hope someone can help me I will be so grateful.

Answer:Satellite C660-15r stucks and no recovery possible

At first I must say that recovery option is available if notebook has ?factory settings?. After reading your posting I don?t know if you still use original OS installation that you got with your notebook or maybe OS preinstalled on your own.

I presume you didn't create recovery media (DVD) using preinstalled Toshiba recovery media creator, right?
In your situation usage of recovery disc could be easiest way to fix this and install original recovery image.

Can you please post exact notebook model?

Hi folks,

Posting this question for my neighbour as he now has no internet access as laptop not working - Satellite C660 running Win7.

When powering up he gets the Toshiba screen then a blank screen with cursor at the top left flashing.

Tried to boot from Win7 DVD (Pressed F12 to get to boot options & changed to DVD), can hear the drive trying to access the dvd but then get the message 'failed'. Win7 DVD works in both my laptop and desktop pc's.

Any ideas.

Thank you

Answer:Satellite C660 Won't boot from HDD or recovery disks

> When powering up he gets the Toshiba screen then a blank screen with cursor at the top left flashing.

Possibly the HDD is dead.
You ca try to power up the unit and press F2
Now you should be able to access the BIOS.

If the HDD isn?t listed on the first BIOS page, then this means that HDD isn?t recognized by BIOS and this means that HDD is faulty.

If your notebook was delivered with 64bit version you can create recovery disc for this preinstalled version only. With other words, recovery image saved on recovery partition will be saved on empty DVD disc. Nothing more than that.

If you want to use 32bit OS you must check if your notebook model is supported for it and install own version.

I have created numerous recovery DVD on several Toshiba notebooks and have never noticed something like this. I have used DVD-R discs only and brands were Verbatim or TDK.

Hello,

A month ago I purchased a Toshiba C660-1FE. After three weeks my HD broke down. I bought a new HD from Western Digital and replaced the broken HD. As I did not make an recovery image of my HD, I had to order the Product recovery discs off the Toshiba website (3 discs, of which disc 1 and 3 were the only one's required for installation).

Now, I have the problem that my laptop keyboard does not work. I am currently using a USB keyboard and mouse to replace my keyboard and touchpad of the laptop.

The laptop keyboard works fine in BIOS. Therefore, I hope it's just a driver problem.

I have:

tried finding and installing lots of drivers on from the toshiba website, no result.
tried changing settings in the bios (usb enable/disable).
tried to fix the problem by re-installing the entire computer again several times.

The keyboard seems to work until windows loads. When the system is starting up I can press caps lock and num lock and the green lights come on. This all stops working once the windows startup symbol appears.

Perhaps a second problem in the device manager: under the display-adapter, 2 subcategories have exclamation marks: it says Mobile Intel(R) 4 series express chipset family twice! I can't seems to fix these with any drivers I can find either. When I check the settings I have this message (google translate since it was in dutch):

Hmm? the keyboard driver is a part of the Windows OS and is installed automatically while OS installation?
I would recommend following:
Go to device manager and extract the point Keyboard.
There you should see something like ?standard PS/2 keyboard?
If you will see a red cross near this device, then this means that the keyboard is disabled.
Usually you should be able to enable this again (in device manager).
If there is no red cross, then I recommend deleting this keyboard from the device manager list?then reboot the notebook. Usually the OS should recognize the removed device automatically and should install the driver too.

Check this.

By the way: it could be possible that you have received a wrong Recovery disk? this could explain the issues after the recover procedure?

I cannot create a recovery disc using Toshiba image. DVDs are rejected as blank when they are empty. DVD R/W burns OK with Microsoft and Nero software. How do I get a fix for this problem? TIA garrym

Answer:Re: Satellite C660-10T Problem creating recovery disc

Toshiba recovery disc can be created with preinstalled ?Toshiba recovery media creator tool? ONLY.
So I don?t understand why you use Microsoft and Nero software.

Have you checked User?s manuals document and chapter about recovery media creation?

For recovery DVD creation I recommend you to use DVD-R empty medias only.

Hi!

I have a laptop from a client, that is a Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-239, and i'm having a strange issue.

The original hard disk failed, and as the laptop is out of warranty, we bought a new hard disk, and ordered the recovery media to this model, from our local toshiba repair assistance.

After the setup copied the files to the disk, the imageX fails when restoring the image files with the error:

"the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable".

The hard disk is new, and i tried also with more 2 hard disks, and also with an external cd-rom drive.

I talked with the support from the local repair assistance, and they told me this occurs because the new hard drive ins't compatible with the recovery media?!

One of the new hard disks i tried, was the exact same model than the original hard disk, and the error still occurs, so the hard disk can't be the problem.

Is there any change of the recovery media is corrupted?

Could also be a motherboard problem?

Thank you

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-239 - Error restoring from recovery media

> Is there any change of the recovery media is corrupted?
Of course this is possible.
In case the HDD is OK, the recovery media could be corrupted.

>Could also be a motherboard problem?
I don?t think so?. I presume the HDD is recognized in BIOS properly and the error message says something about corrupted directory. I guess the disk directory is meaning and I think media should be replaced.

Hello all,

I have a Toshiba Satellite C660. I am trying to restore the laptop to the initial condition by the simple HDD Recovery. I have lost my old recovery disks. After completing first few initial steps, it goes to 'finishing installation' page and then gives an error message. After clicking to the dialog box 'ok' it resumes as 'Finishing installation' again. And now it has been almost 2 hours. It is still there. No improvement. What should I do ?

If I turn off the computer will my windows be completely destroyed?

Hi

I'm trying to create Recovery Disks using Toshiba's Recovery Media Centre for my new Satellite Pro C660-111. However, I've tried three times now and it gets about a third the way through the first of two disks and comes up with the following error:

E:\Boot\bcd missing

Help please! What am I doing wrong?

Many thanks

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-111 - Error when creating recovery DVDs

Hello

What kind of blank DVDs you are using for creating Toshiba recovery disk?

Maybe the error is related to the disk? I have used Verbatim DVD-R mediums and had no problems to create the disks.

Hello,

on the laptop TOSHIBA C660, replaced the hard drive and, as a fact, the OS flew down (Windows 7 SP1 HB x 64).
Installed not licensed, there was no way out, on the Microsoft website, to download the image, the key from the laptop is not suitable.

Not a licensed image, there was no desire to put, the assembly is an assembly, naturally installed such an operating system behaved badly, buggy.

Done, and now the laptop does not work.
In the service center installation of OS and drivers costs 3500 rbl.

Offensively. So I'm looking for help on the forum.

Please, kindly request help. Thank you.

Strange problem. My Satellite C660D-1FM was doing a bunch of updates from Microsoft (hadn't done any updates for ages as it was used by my daughter and not connected to the internet) and after they had completed it rebooted and I got the Toshiba splash screen and then nothing. Holding F8 gives the same problem, tried holding the '0' key while powering on and that was the same. Connected an external monitor and it's the same. I can get into the BIOS and everything looks fine.

So, thinking the hard drive might be faulty I fitted another hard drive and fully installed Win7 from a Microsoft DVD (SP1 and all updates) and everything works. I then thought I'd try and restore the laptop to default factory settings using the Toshiba recovery DVD's which Id created. All worked fine during the install, all 3 DVD's installed and it went through the setup procedure, laptop got to the end when it wanted to reboot, rebooted and now back to the same error - Toshiba splash screen is ok but then it just goes blank. To convince myself I wasn't going mad I then re-installed Win7 from my Microsoft DVD and it installs fine, does all updates and has worked all day today with no issue.

Anyone any idea what's going on?

Answer:Satellite C660 - blank screen after recovery image instalation

Hmmm... something like this should not happen.
Do you use recovery discs for the first time?
Have you noticed the same result on both HDDs?

Problem is that there is no much to do about that and there is no way to change anything while recovery installation runs or later when windows setup is in progress.

Try to set BIOS to default settings and simply try to install recovery image again.

Over a year ago i have changed to windows 10 (not aware that my laptop is not suitable for this)
It worked fine untill Microsoft started the Windows10 anniversary upgrade 1607.
each time this will result in unbootable system and in need of external recovery to window 10 version 1511.
blocking updates is not simple in Windows10.
I would like to revert to window 7.
The harddisk is error free and there are 4 partitons available:
Partition 1: System 399MB
Cannot use this to parttion install official windows7 from microsoft
Partition 2: Windows 232MB Primair
Partition 3: 786MB OEM reseverd
Partition 4: Data 232MB Primair

pressing 0 at startup does not reset to the original sw

Please can anyone help. I tried using my recovery disks to restore my notebook when it kept failing to start properly. The disks did not work so I purchased a set of disc from Toshiba on this website. I still have the same problem.

Is it the hard drive failing or something else?

If I purchase a new hard drive will the recovery disks work if the hard drive is not exactly the same as the one that came out?

Answer:Satellite C660 - recovery disk fails error 1117

Hi

Did you think about the HDD?
It could be a HDD malfunction that does not allow you to install the system.

I recommend checking the HDD for some possible issues.

There is a nice tool called Drive Fitness Test. You can use it for HDD check.
Google simply to get the software.

I have a brand-new Satellite Pro C660. It worked fine for a day, now it won't load windows. I didn't get around to creating the recovery disks as I've only had it a few hours (yes, yes, I know, should have been the first thing I did). All the data is present (but backed up to USB just in case) and I can see the HDDREcovery folder with all data intact. However, I can't run the app to create recovery disks. Does anyone know how to extract the images and create the media using only the command prompt? (I can get into command prompt by booting from a friend's Win 7 disk). All boot options from the laptop's own drives fail. It says "Windows Failed to Load", and I try Startup Repair but it doesn't find any errors. Any help/thoughts on this will be much appreciated!

Answer:Re: Satellite Pro C660 - How to make recovery disk with command prompt?

Hey,

It?s not possible to create recovery disk with command prompt. You have to use the Toshiba recovery media creator on Windows.

Now it?s too late for you but you can order such a disk here:

This is my second attempt to recovery using the hidden image. The first attempt hung at an earlier point Loading Windows 7 ;( However on this attempt it has been over an hour on the "Setup is starting services" screen with a moving light under it.

Does anyone have any reasonable idea how much time this process takes? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite C660-1F1 Toshiba HDD Recovery "Setup is starting services" hang?

Powered off after 2 hours.

Seems that it could be BIOS version currently 1.2 needs upgrade to a more recent version so I'll have a look at that. Also possible issue with bootrec maybe.

I'll update later :)

I spend some hours to try to create the recovery disks for my Laptop (Satellite C660-1DG)

It fails on the second DVD halfway. It just hangs. CTRL-ALT-DEL does not work anymore a cold boot is required to start the thing again.

I tried several DVD's but NOGO each time halfway the second DVD it hangs.

I really need to create these recovery DVD's because Im going to upgrade the laptop to run a Windows Server 2012 install for development purposes.

I thought this would take just a minimum amount of time but... of course...

Any thoughs on any way to get this stuff working?

Answer:Satellite C660-1DG - Toshiba Media Creator Recovery fails creating 2nd DVD

I burned just another disk and it was full of validation errors: hundreds.

So I connected my external DVD writer (NEC ND-3500AG) (firmware 2.1A) and took THE SAME DVD and burned it: presto: no problems: 0 validation errors

So I deduce that the internal DVD writer (TSSTcorp TS-L633C) (firmware TF20) is chunky.

I am still in warranty but... is it any use?

Hello, I've used the recovery media creator to create a USB flash drive recovery media.

If i then use that to restore the Windows 7 installation onto a new hard drive (as SSD) will that drive itself have the recovery media partition on it?

So if I then lose the USB stick could I restore again by holding down zero when powering on?

Or does it recover the Windows partition and nothing more?

Thank you

I recently bought a Satellite Pro L850-1UJ with Windows 8
http://www.toshiba.co.uk/laptops/satellite-pro/l850/satellite-pro-l850-1uj/

I've created a new partition (so i could use it as data room)
i.e. C: the windows system AND Z: my data

after that, i could NOT use the RECOVERY MEDIA CREATOR to create the recovery dvds
BUT the partition still exists and i can see the inside files from windows

IS IT a way to extract the files from the recovery partition or any other clue how i could fix the partition scheme so the RECOVERY MEDIA CREATOR could recognize it

Many thanks for your time...

Answer:Satellite Pro L850-1UJ: How create recovery DVDs from recovery partition

After changing HDD partitions structure it happens that ?Toshiba recovery media creator? cannot find recovery files. These files are marked with special markers that in your case cannot be found anymore.

I?m afraid now is too late to do or change anything. You are not the first one with this problem. We always write here that first step should be recovery media creation and later you can do whatever you want. You can even delete it.

Now you can just order new recovery disc at https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

Talk about confusing. Does anyone know how to get a Toshiba C660 working after the HDD has failed and the owner has stupidly NOT followed the instructions to make a recovery disk. Will the recovery disk ( if you purchase one from Toshiba ) rebuild the new HDD along with a new recovery partition and install windows 7 (original OS ) and accept the product key printed on the Windows License attached to the base of the laptop. I have read a number of suggestions but these have been deemed incorrect by others.

Surely Toshiba must have a way of sorting this problem.

Do they read these posts ?

Answer:Satellite L660-12Q - Would recovery disk rebuild the new HDD along with a new recovery partition

Hi buddy?

I don?t think that this is really complicated? I could find all info regarding the recovery procedure in the user manual?

The recovery disk has to be created at the first day of purchase? its recommended to create one in cases something would be wrong with the HDD.

The recovery disk contain an image?. Image is a package containing Win system, drivers, tools and all the stuff preinstalled on the notebook.
You purchased the notebook and the system was already activated so you don?t need the key placed at the bottom of the unit.
Furthermore the usage of recovery disk formats the whole HDD (partitions too) and set the notebook back to the same state like at the first day of purchase.

There is also another option to recover the notebook called HDD recovery. This HDD recovery does not need recovery disk. Usage of HDD recovery would format ONLY the C (system) partition.

I just purchased a brand new laptop and have realised that it didn't come with a recovery disc or a recovery partition on the hard drive.

Just wondering if my hard disc crashes how am i supposed to reinstall windows?
The laptop i bought is a Toshiba satellite L500 and is only a few weeks old.

If anyone could help on the subject would be very much appreciated.

Answer:Satellite L500 - No recovery disc or recovery partition - How to reinstall?

Hi

Normally if I buy a new notebook or other product I read the user manual firstly. So I would recommend that you should the same before you ask different questions.

The point is that you have to create a Toshiba recovery disk yourself. Therefore start the recovery disk creator that is preinstalled on your notebook and follow the screen instructions. I recommend a high quality DVD-R medium to create this disk.

Furthermore you can reinstall Windows using the HDD recovery option. On the second partition you can find this folder that contains an image of factory settings and you can start this feature if you go in advanced boot menu and select ?repair my computer?. This is not a special partition, only a folder where the image is stored.

HDD recovery procedure is the same as Toshiba recovery disk. You get back factory settings too but the recovery disk wipes the whole HDD. The HDD recovery only the first partition.

By the way: Normally you did get this message:
+Important INFORMATION+

+your system is equipped with hard disk recovery system. if you need to repair+
+your computer by restoring it to original factory state, you can do it directly+
+from harddisk (press F8 when you boot your computer, choose "Repair your computer"+

Hi, I want to know about the data and partition recovery from my hard disk. Actually, I was trying to recover data from my SD card but mistakenly, the logical partitions got lost and remained as unallocated, only C:/ drive was available. After that, I tried to create partitions from unallocated drive. Yes, i did it. But now question is will  I be able to recovery the data which was lost from earlier partition. Please help me with the proper solution beacause I have lost important documents and files.

Answer:Data and partition recovery

Hi,You will need data rcovery program and will have to run it in deep scan or surface scan and the programs will probably recover files which are from well known formats. (This necessary because by creating partitions you have formatted the drive) There are many freeware programs which will probably achieve this, look out that many say they are free and after scanning will only let you recover a certain amount of data. The surface scan can take a long time nad you can let it run a whole night. Here is a site I was just looking at which talks about these programs:https://www.lifewire.com/free-data-recovery-software-tools-2622893 I would try Pandora from, what I was reading, it has the ability to perform surface scan and recognize files. Install it on c: drive and recover data to an external hard drive since if you recover to your partitions it will overwrite the data on it and will no longer be recoverable. There are also some good paid versions of software. Let me know if you need further help,David

wasn't sure where to put this thread. Is there anyway to recover a partition and data on the partition if the partition was deleted. Then the drive was partitioned again and data was written to the drive. I have a copy of Hiren's 9.5 does that have any recovery tools that can help.
I would appreciate any help.

Answer:Data Recovery partition

I used GetDataBack with good recovery or my data but I break it out as soon as its needed. The writing to the hard drive before you attempt a restore can cause a lot of data loss. Heres the link..........

Hi,

Can someone please help,

I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite C660/C660D for my nephew, We have forgotten the administrator password and we don't have password reset disk is there anyway around this.

Thanks

Answer:I forgot my administrator password on Satellite C660/C660

Hi

I assume you are talking about windows system password and not about BIOS password. Right?
It?s not very big problem if you forgotten the System password but if you mean BIOS password then you are in trouble because the BIOS password can be deleted just by an Toshiba ASP technicians?

So I assume you mean Windows password? so start the notebook and press F8
Now you can choose Repair my Computer and then choose HDD recovery.
This would start a HDD recovery procedure which would reinstall the system? during the setup you can set anther admin password.

Of course there are some other methods but as far as I know this requires 3rd party software/tools or Win 7 DVD? so I think the HDD recovery is the fastest solution.
