Can I use product recovery for Satellite P300 on Satellite P100?

Question: Can I use product recovery for Satellite P300 on Satellite P100?

I lost the product recovery disk for my P100, but I do have the disks for a P30 and P300, both of which are windows XP.

My P100 which my husband uses has become so slow that I feel I have to reload it. But when I tried starting up holding 0, F8 and F12 (one of them gave me a menu, I forget which), I couldn't find an option which allowed it to return to factory settings.

So I wonder if I can use one of the other product recovery disks on the P100? Would really appreciate advice. (I used to own a P30, and I still own a P300)

Preferred Solution: Can I use product recovery for Satellite P300 on Satellite P100?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Can I use product recovery for Satellite P300 on Satellite P100?

Hello

Every single recovery image is designed for certain notebook model. Why?
Every notebook model has specific hardware infrastructure and also specific drivers are needed.

When you compare two different notebooks there are different CPUs, graphic card, modem, cam maybe and so on. So if you want to have properly working OS this will not work.

My Toshiba P300 150 was delivered today and I have mess things up. I put a Toshiba P200 Product Recovery in the P300. I am not able to get to the desktop because everything was erased when I put the P200 Product Recovery Disc in the new laptop.

I am not able to get the Product Recovery from Toshiba until January 7 because the site is down.

I am so desperate, so if anyone has the same laptop, I would be so grateful if you would be able to make a copy of the Product Recovery, just email me if you are able to help.

Answer:Satellite P300 150 - Need Product Recovery Disc

Hi!

Why did you insert the recovery disk from a P200 notebook? When you get a Toshiba notebook it?s all preinstalled ? Windows, drivers and tools.

It?s a user to user forum and I think it?s not allowed to copy such disks. ;)

But you can also get a new disc from an ASP (authorized service provider). Here you can search for one:

i want to reformat my laptop, its a Satellite P300.... many things do not work anymore ie: system restore and corrupted c drive

1) would reformatting my laptop fix these problems?

2) 2 disks "product recovery media TOSHIBA satellite p300 etc and says windows vista ulimate 64 bit

Does that mean they contain vista? (vista came pre installed

3) should i make a copy of the vista serial PRODUCT ID that is on my system menu screen

4) how would i run these disks.....

I appreciate if you could help, its an awesome computer

Will reserach on how to run the disks, just wanting to make sure they contain vista

Answer:Satellite P300 - Does the product recovery disks contain Vista?

> 1) would reformatting my laptop fix these problems?
Probably yes

> 2) 2 disks "product recovery media TOSHIBA satellite p300 etc and says windows vista ultimate 64 bit
As far as I know P300 has been equipped with HDD recovery and the Vista 32bit was preinstalled. There should be an option which would helps to recover the notebook using the HDD recovery option. Press F8 while notebook booting up. Then choose Repair my Computer and start the HDD recovery.
This should set the machine to factory settings. Finally you could create a recovery disk using the preinstalled software called Toshiba recovery disk creator.

> 3) should i make a copy of the vista serial PRODUCT ID that is on my system menu screen
You could do this but as far as I know the Vista on the Toshiba Recovery disk is already activated and you don?t need any serial keys.

> 4) how would i run these disks.....
Usually you have to boot from such disk

PS; to get more details you should read the user manual and should read the threads in this forum!

Hi,

I just had a bit of trouble installing a piece of software which, in the end I was able to sort out with a system restore. This process caused me some concern at the time as I couldn't get the software uninstalled correctly (I had to download a program from the maker to uninstall it!)

At one point I considered restoring my Satellite P100-188 notebook with the product recovery disk, the thing is I have never done this before and was wondering if someone could tell me the best sequence to do this for future reference.

I have a standard Windows Media Centre Edition OS, a product recovery disk, an Express Media Player disk and a Drivers and Tools CD which I created when I got the notebook.

I have a printout saying to restore Express Media Player before Windows, does this mean I have to insert this disk, install Express Media Player, then insert the product recovery disk to install Windows?

Does the Express Media Player disk format the drive? This isn't clear to me and I don't want to run into problems when I eventually do have to re-install my Operating System.

I've searched this forum in order to see if this information was already posted and couldn't find any relevant information, all I can find are problems with using recovery disks and missing disks.

If it has been posted before could you supply me with a link, and forgive me asking for the information again.

Answer:Satellite P100-188: How to perform the product recovery procedure?

Hello Gary

If you want to have clean preinstalled OS the best solution is to use delivered recovery media. If the Express media player works well leave it as it is and use the recovery DVD only for clean OS installation. That?s all!

Tools and Utility CD can be used if you need it to reinstall any of Toshiba designed tools or if you want to install your own OS using Microsoft installations CD. If you have more questions please post again.

The product key on my Satellite Pro P300 doesn't work.
I am entering the key from the sticker on the reverse of the computer. What am I doing wrong?

Answer:The product key on my Satellite Pro P300 doesn't work

Hi

Why you use this product key?

First of all the Toshiba recovery image is already activated and you don?t need this key for further activations.

Secondly this is a OEM key and this will not work with another Vista versions!

Is it possible to perform recovery of factory default software or recovery to out-of-box state for my laptop ? Satellite P300-1GQ?

I?ve used Toshiba HDD Recovery Tool and it only formatted the C partition leaving the partition D unchanged. Vista is running smoothly, all data on D partition are available. I could just format the partition D but the catch is that the folder titled ?HDD recovery? is stored on D partition. Back in 2009 when I purchased my laptop I created the HDD Recovery DVD?s as instructed. I could use them and format the entire hard disk but the information I got from the support technician in my country told me that the new ?HDD recovery? folder would not be created.

I just want to wipe the entire drive and perform fresh installation, having again ?HDD recovery? folder on D partition of the disk, in short: as it is now. Is this possible or not?

Answer:HDD Recovery - Satellite P300-1GQ

> Is it possible to perform recovery of factory default software or recovery to out-of-box state for my laptop ? Satellite P300-1GQ?

It is possible:
Either by doing a HDD recovery or using Recovery disk

As far as I know using Recovery disk the whole HDD would be formatted and would be set back to the same state like at the first day of purchase? this would mean that HDD recovery folder and HDD recovery option should be available even if using the Recovery disk!

Hi there

I Have just recovered my Satellite P300-20H, using the HDD Recovery,

Any ideas as to what I should do now? Laptop backed up, HDD Recovery has wiped and returned laptop to factory default. What should I do now? I have never wiped a laptop or PC before. I have done the recovery through the HDD and all is back to when I first got the laptop nearly 2 years ago but now I have 108 windows updates, and my Toshiba Tempro isnt working.
Do I need to update any drivers on the laptop and if so how do I know what needs to be and updated and how do I do that?

I went on the Toshiba website and it has given me a list of the updated drivers for my particular model but I'm just not sure how many of these driver updates I need to actually download and update.

If anyone could help me out it would really be appreciated.
I would love if someone could just explain to me, as I know nothing about pc/laptops and just want to get my laptop back up to current. So that everything works correctly. I read in the drivers section, on toshiba.com that not all windows service packs should be downloaded as not all work along side the Toshiba laptops. So im stuck if I should download and install the 108 Windows updates that are needed to be installed also.

Hope someone can help me out.

Many thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite P300-20H - What should I do after HDD recovery?

Hey,

I?m wondering about your question: It seems that you have done the HDD recovery but you didn?t know what HDD recovery does? Right?
As you have noticed, it will restore your computer back to factory settings. You have the same settings as you purchased it. So this is useful if Windows doesn?t start anymore or you want to reinstall Windows.

You can use your notebook as before: There is no difference. All Windows updates should be installed, that?s very important because they are security updates and helps to protect your computer. So start Windows updates and follow the installation.

Driver updates from Toshiba website are not important, only when you notice some problems. If not you can forget the driver updates. ;)

Do you have the Toshiba HDD recovery utility? Just use this tool to make a new recovery installation of your system.

But before that, search for some recovery tools included with your notebook software preinstalled.

I have just bought a Satellite Pro P300-19Q with Vista pre-installed. I wish to use Windows XP professional instead and understand that I have to use the DVD headed 'Product Recovery - Microsoft Windows XP Professional' that came with the machine. To do this, however, the information sheet supplied is not very helpful when it just says "you will need to load this..."

My question is: how I go about doing this since running the disc in the DVD player just reveals several files none of which get me anywhere?

Any help would be gratefully received.

Answer:How to use Windows XP recovery with my new Satellite Pro P300-19Q?

The Windows XP Product Recovery disk contains image of a ready Windows XP installation with all drivers and tools.

Before you install Windows XP you should burn the Vista recovery disk because if you want a rollback to Windows Vista you will need this disk. So you can restore the computer to the state it was in when you originally received it.
At the moment the recovery image (Vista) is only stored on the HDD and so you can burn it on a DVD:
Click on the Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator and insert a blank DVD. Then follow the instructions on the screen. The recovery disk will be created.
Now you are able to boot from this DVD and install Vista with all drivers and tools (factory settings).

When you reinstall Windows with a recovery disk, the HDD will be reformatted and all data will be lost. That means also other partitions so backup your data first.

If you use Vista it?s also able to restore the factory settings from the HDD. Therefore the files are stored in the ?HDDRecovery? folder.
So if you want to start your laptop press F8. Then you can see the advanced boot options menu and there select Repair Your Computer.
Follow the instructions on the screen and the laptop will also reinstall.
But remember, this feature (HDD recovery) is only available with Vista, not XP.

So and if you did understand this and burned the Vista recovery disk you can begin to install Windows XP.
Boot from the XP recovery disk and follow the instructions on the screen. The ins... Read more

Hi everybody,

Yesterday I bought a toshiba Satellite P300-1CI, when I started, I must installed Vista home.
I would like to format my disk and reinstall my old Windows XP.

My question is : How can keep an image disk with Vista? I don't have an installation disk of Vista and don't know my registration key of it.
How can I have a recovery disk ?

Can you help me please.

PS : Sorry for my english

Answer:How can I get a recovery disk for Satellite P300-1CI?

Hi mate

User manual is really interesting document and in most cases it answer all you questions ;)

Anyway, the Toshiba recovery disk should be created before you would format and install on the HDD.
You have to use the preinstalled Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator application in order to create the Recovery DVD.

Now to you other question;
The Vista image which is preinstalled and placed on the Recovery disk (after recovery disk has been created) is activated already and you don?t need to insert any keys or activate anything.

Well, now I can explain my problem a lil' better. When I boot my comp and press F8 -> "Repair My Computer" -> "HDD Recovery" -> then this message poof up:

"Can not find the folder for the hard drive recovery on the second drive of the first hard disk.
There is not an environment for hard drive recovery on the computer.""

Anyone who can tell me how to fix it?

Answer:Satellite P300-1A2: Cannot boot using HDD Recovery

Hi

Did you try this process several times? Does this message appear always?

Possibly the HDD recovery partition has been deleted, changed or it?s corrupt?
This is only plausible explanation why this message appears.

If you are able to boot the Windows then I would recommend checking if it?s possible to create the own recovery disk using the Toshiba recovery disk creator.

If this would be not possible then this means that there is something wrong with the HDD recovery partition and therefore you are not able to use the HDD recovery and are not able to create recovery disk.

Hi all,

I want to do a Toshiba Product Recovery, using the partition on the HDD. I've done it before, and no problems.

But when I press F8 --> Repair Computer --> selecting language --> Then I have to select a user (Administrator/My name/Guest) When I select Administrator it says that my account has been deactivated, when I select the user with my name (Kenneth) it continues to the menu where I can select the various options for the recovery. If I select the Toshiba Product blah blah thingy a screen comes up saying that it can't find HDD 01. I haven't done anything with the partition containing Vista.

My guess is that I need to login as administrator, which is impossible. My user account in Vista is an administrator,

Can someone please help?

I'm using a P300

Hi there,

- Recover, which ends up with a nice dialog box telling me the recovery program failed to start...

Hi,

i am trying to reset my Satellite P100.
It is running slowly and i figured a spring clean was in order.

I just recieved in the post today my recovery disk (then found my original one!).
Problem I have is that no matter what i do i cannot get the cd to boot.

No matter what buttons i press i get either nothing at all and a black screen or windows restarts.
I have tried F12, F1, F2, C, f*, ESC, i have changed bios load priority via hardware setup utility in control panel to load cd first, its spins up for quite a while and just does nothing.

Whatever i do i cannot load anything other than windows or a blank black screen, cant even get into safe mode.

Any help please ?

Answer:Satellite P100 - Cannot boot from Recovery CD

It looks like the Satellite P100 cannot read from the inserted disk?
Did you check if it?s possible to boot from other bootable disk like Windows XP CD or Linux CD?

You could also try to burn the Recovery disk to the other disk and then you could use the second disk for booting. For this procedure you should use a second computer

In very rare cases it could be possible that the CD/DVD drive cannot handle the inserted disk. Burning the data to the other CD could solve this annoying issue.

You can also format and install your notebook with the Microsoft installation disk and then download and install all drivers from the Toshiba website but if you have only little experience in these things would be recovery disk the best way.

I recently bought a laptop and decided to reset it via the recovery disc provided, to my surprise after inserting the recovery disc and restarting the laptop goes straight into Windows. Even though I went into the BIOS and set the CD/DVD drive as start up, or even after holding down the F12 key.
When the Laptop is switched on the Drive says that there is no data on the DVD, on double clicking the DVD it says "Please insert media into the DVD Drive"

My previous laptop was a Toshiba Satellite 1900-303 and just to test and see if it was a problem with my recovery media I used the recovery media on the P100 and it took me to the correct recovery screen. Then I swapped media and used the P100 recovery on the old Toshiba 1900-303 and again it went to the correct recovery screen. This got me thinking so I tried out a few more data CD's/ DVD's and to my astonishment it won't read DVD-R's.

Normally you can start from Toshiba recovery disk if you enter the BIOS boot menu and select CD/DVD drive as boot device. Then press ENTER and the computer will boot from the disk. The key combinations that you mentioned like F8, c, etc. doesn?t work, they are for HDD recovery.

There is only one possibility to install Vista on 153 GB partition - only with format HDD and make new partitions.

Please inform me how to active the settings.

The recovery procedure will format the HDD and will erase everything from the HDD.
It?s not possible to change the settings and to recover the OS only on one certain partition.

The early Recovery procedure containing the Win XP was different and it was possible to recover only one partition but not using the Vista.

I recently bought a new notebook from Toshiba, the Satellite P300. It has Vista installed out of the box but there is no recovery media included with the package. I'm worried that if something might go wrong in the future, I won't be able to repair my operating system.

Two questions:
1) Is it normal that there is no recovery disc included with the Satellite P300? In other words, other customers who have bought the same laptop don't have this either. Or is this an exception and a mistake of my local vendor. In the manual on the 'included in this package' list there is no mention of a recovery disc included with the package.

2) Can I get a recovery disk from Toshiba if something goes wrong?

Answer:No recovery disks included with my Satellite P300

Hi

Yes, because the notebook was equipped with the HDD recovery option which allows you to recover the notebook from the HDD.

> Can I get a recovery disk from Toshiba if something goes wrong?
There is preinstalled Toshiba Recovery disk creator software.
This software creates a Toshiba recovery DVD. I think this info was published in the user manual which should be preinstalled on your notebook.

So I would strongly recommend reading the user manual and to create such recovery DVD before you would change anything on the notebook.

On my Satellite Pro P300 there are two harddisks, both 160 GB.
At the moment Windows Vista Business is installed, as it was preinstalled.
On the first disk there are 3 partitions, one EISA-partition, one Vista boot-partition and one partition for HHDRecovery (contains image for Vista Product Recovery).

In Vista there is an option for Complete PC Backup. This provides the possibility to completely restore Vista to the situation at the time of the backup.
I made a Full PC Backup of the complete first hard drive (3 partitions) and saved it on the second harddrive.

Now I want to use the provided Toshiba Product Recovery for Windows XP to install Windows XP on the laptop.
I assume that the first harddrive will be completely overwritten, but I am not sure if the second drive will also be overwritten.
Does anybody know if my data on the second drive will be lost when i use the Product Recovery for XP?

I would like to preserve the data on the second drive, because it gives me the option to restore the laptop to the situation with Vista without reinstalling/activating all applications.
Also all my personal files are on that drive.

Hi there,

Been having lot's of problems on this machine. It started with a nearly full C: partition which made Vista invoke a drive compression.

After that the laptop would not boot; after POST there was just a blank screen (no flashing cursor). The tap 'F8' solution from the manual would not work.

With no booting system, i tried using a Vista recovery CD. But this would not even boot, even after setting BIOS to boot from CD first, or even using the F12 boot selection screen.

I had to physically remove the hard drive from the laptop to get the CD to boot. But obviously couldn't do much after that. At this point i'm thinking that the hard drive compress utility had corrupted the boot sector.

So i connected the Hard drive to a desktop PC, Backed up all 3 partitions (1 hidden plus C: 'Vista' and D: which held the HDDRecovery files)

I then tried formatting then drive and reinstating the partitions. This is the point i'm having problems with.

I used Boot-us software to make the first partition hidden which is what it was. Hidden. Plus i left it without assigning a drive letter.

On the second partition i used windows backup to restore the C: drive, this software didn't restore all files by the way it left out important ones such as Winload.exe, which is why i had to do a factory restore.

On the third partition i restored the 'HDDRecovery' folder.

Now after editing the BCD file i was able to enter the Toshiba recovery environment from a bootable CD tha... Read more

I haven't uninstall the program, it's also on my software list. I can see the program in C:\Program Files\Toshiba\TOSHIBA Recovery Disc Creator but when i click on ToRDC.exe it doesn't start.

Sorry for my question but what do you want to do exactly?
Do you want to recover the notebook using the Recovery disk or do you want to create an recovery disk?

The Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator creates the Recovery disk using the files from the HDD recovery folder which is placed on the second partition.

If you want to recover the notebook then you have simply boot from the recovery disk.

Hi, I have tried to create the back-up recovery disks for my new P300-1CN, but I keep getting a power callibration error (Error code: 0E01B5-26-00037304) when the progress gets 50% along the first 'current disk' bar and 25% along the 'Total Progress' bar.

I've now tried 3 times and exactly the same thing happens each time.

I have power cable in, power on and a full battery.

Any ideas?

Answer:Satellite P300-1CN - Can't create the recovery disk

Hi!

Have you tried disks from different manufactures? I prefer to use Verbatim DVD-R disks and sometimes TDK disks.
Check this!

Furthermore on the Toshiba website I can find some firmware updates for the CD/DVD drive. Check if you have such a drive and update the firmware.

Hi, (I'm french, well, sorry for english grammary mistakes)

When I bought my computer last year, I couldn't create a Recovery disc, I tried so many DVD, but ther was everytime an error in the end ! :s I gave up hooping I'll never need it...
Hem hem, now I would like to (reformater ?) reboot my computer to make it clear in all my HD, programs, docs and else...
I bought Yesterday an external HD (1To) and I would like to create the famous recovery file in my new product...

Is it possible ? How can I do that ?

Answer:Satellite P300-1GL - How to make a HDD recovery file?

Hi

You can use the Toshiba recovery disk creator to create a Toshiba recovery disk. This disk contains an image of ?factory settings? from the notebook. That means the same settings as you have started the notebook the first time. Just boot from the disk and follow the screen instructions ? That?s all! But this disk contains only Windows, drivers and tools from Toshiba. No programs or others that you have installed by yourself. I would recommend trying again to create this disk. I can recommend Verbatim DVD-R disks for this.

If you want an image about your current state with all settings, documents, etc. you have to use a special image software like Acronis True Image or Norton Ghost.

After getting some annoying adware I could not get rid of, I decided the format my harddrive and return my notebook to factory settings.. something I could not do.

Firstly I inserted the disc, and in no way could I get anything to happen. I tried run from start menu, I browsed the files and looked for some kind of file that would open the normal wizard.. etc.. nothing.. I restarted to see if it would boot.. nothing..

I went into the setup (f2) and asked it to boot the disk. It then says "Loading ram disk image" with a progress bar.. the bar finishes, the screen goes blank and than reboots, gets to the same point and continually reboots.

I found this thread with a guy with the exact same problem here:

http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=17094

He describes his solution but I have no idea what he is talking about.

I recieved this "Product Recovery DVD-ROM" and no other discs. I cannot enter windows, I can only enter f2 and the settings there, and watch it reboot.. I can't do anything with it at all.

Stunned that using the recovery disk made my notebook unusable where as before it was just annoying ads on websites..

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi

I have checked the link provided in your posting and the other person has booted the notebook with the Linux booting CD to format and to delete the whole partitions on the HDD.

I recommend doing the same. Delete the partitions and format the HDD and then try to recover the notebook with the delivered Toshiba recovery CD.

I use a Toshiba Satelite P100-119 from 2006. I want to run the original delievered Product Recovery CD after saving all my data, so that with a new, empty system, the laptop gets faster again.

But as there was preinstalled software (Office, Toshiba programms) when I bought it, I`m not sure if they`re gone after the recovery. I didn`t get CDs for these programmes, they were just preinstalled and what about my windows xp, does it recover completely with the cd?

Answer:Satellite P100-119 - Software after recovery installation

Hi buddy,

After recovery installation you have the same settings as purchased the notebook. With other words recovery disk will restore ?out of box settings?.

First of all the recovery disk will wipe the whole HDD and delete everything. After this Windows will be installed with all drivers and tools. Furthermore the preinstalled software like Office, etc. will also be installed and you can use it again. :)

But backup all important data like picture, music, etc. because everything will be deleted for a clean Windows installation.

Hi I recently purchased a toshiba satellite P100, but it doesn't seem to have come with a Windows Vista disk, just preinstalled Vista.

The laptop is running fine at the moment, but I'm a bit worried that if something goes wrong in the future i'll have no way to reinstall the OS.

The laptop came with a recovery disk, and I'm not sure if Vista is included on this?

If not is there anyway I can make a copy of vista from the one installed on my HDD?

Thanks

Answer:Satellite P100: No Windows Vista CD but only Recovery CD

Hi,

don?t worry, you don?t need to make a copy of your HDD since you already have a vista on your recovery media.

If you got problems with your system and you want to re-install it, then backup all your data to a external media, put the recovery in your CD/DVD drive, boot from it and then just "recover" or "reinstall" your system. The recovery process is working automatically and you will have a "factory-like" installation after recovering your machine.

Hope I could explain it to you... ;)

I have followed the instructions that I have seen on many sites to be able to do a system restore to 'out-of-box' state. I have held down zero and tapped the on key and then let the zero key go when I hear the beeping. After this it does not give me the option to carry out the system recovery. It just starts up as normal.

What am I doing wrong?

Answer:System Recovery not working with my Satellite P100

Hello Shae

How to start now? Ok let?s go!

Toshiba recovery procedure can be done with recovery installations CD/DVD or using image saved on HDD. Image saved on HDD will be offered with new notebooks only and I am pretty sure your Satellite P100 is delivered with CD/DVD media and not with HDD recovery option.

As far as I know this 0 option is for HDD installation only. Please note that this 0 option is also not for all Toshiba notebooks. For European notebooks you can start HDD installation with F8 and not with 0.

I hope you understand how it works now. The question is Which P100 do you have exactly and how you try to install OS? Do you want to use Toshiba recovery CD/DVD?

Unforunately I have accidentally lost my Recovery DVD-ROM.

I still have the serial number under the notebook. So do you think Toshiba could provide me the XP MCE version? Is there any place I could download another version corresponding to the notebook I have? If not, do anyone know if I can buy this DVD again from Toshiba?

Do you know where to buy Windows XP nowadays?

Answer:Recovery DVD_Rom for Satellite P100 (PSPA3)

Hi

No, as far as I know you cannot download an Toshiba image.
There is an online platform where you could order an Toshiba recovery disk but I think your unit is too old.

However, you can try the website:
http://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

If it will not be possible to order the disk, you will need to install the clean Windows system and the single drivers could be downloaded from Toshiba driver page.

Hi,

Usual story. Windows based BIOS upgrade (WinPhlash) went wrong and my P100 died.
I've come across Crisis Recovery procedure that should work on any Phoenix BIOS based laptop.

However, I either must be doing something wrong or the motherboard is toasted more than I expected.
In my case, I've followed the procedure carefully, but my P100 doesn't want to enter crisis recovery mode at all.
It doesn't even try to access/boot USB floppy drive.

I've just tested it with my wife's A100 and all drives (HD, DVD and FDD) light their LEDs right after powering up the laptop, so the floppy drive is working fine. When I press power button on my P100, fans start to rotate, hard drive spins up (and chipset heatsink becomes warm after a while), but pressing Fn+B or Win+B as described in CR procedure doesn't produce a slightest change in laptop's behaviour. Floppy drive is Toshiba branded, so there should be no compatibility problem. Power is supplied to all USB ports, but somehow my P100 refuses to access FDD on start-up.

Any help?

Cheers,

I have a 2008 Satellite P300-150 that I want to restore to factory settings.

I followed the steps in the user?s manual to do this from the hard disk drive (F8 on start up), however, when I try, a screen appears with a warning box with the heading 'system recovery options' then below says 'the installed program cannot start. Click ok to turn off the computer'.

I?m not sure what's best to do now so if someone could suggest another way to do this I would be very grateful.

Thanks

Answer:HDD recovery installation doesn't start on Satellite P300-150

The situation is pretty simply to explain. Recovery image installation can be done on two ways:
-using HDD recovery or
-using created recovery DVD.

I don?t know if you have created this disc following Toshiba advice but if you have it use it for operating system installation.

By the way: Satellite P300 runs perfectly with Win7 32bit so if there is a way to install it do it. It runs much better than original Vista.

If you have more questions you are welcome. ;)

Hello

At first I want to give you advice about DVD you should use. For successful recovery DVD creation use DVD-R medias. I have created several recovery medias on different notebook models and with DVD-R media worked always.

On the market there are several Satellite/Satellite Pro P300 notebooks and image is not the same for all of them.
Just for info:
-for Satellite P300-1GL I needed one empty media only but
-for Satellite Pro P300-149 I needed two of them

So I believe you will need one only. When you start "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator" and choose media you want to use it, you will be informed how many of them do you need.

The Toshiba European driver page provides two Conexant sound drivers for this notebook model.
+Sound Driver 4.36.10.0+
+Sound Driver 4.83.1.0+

I recommend checking the newer version 4.83.1.0
Uninstall the older driver firstly in device manager.

Reboot the unit and install the new downloaded driver.

Hope this helps to get better sound quality :)

Hi,

Im sorry i know this question has been asked before but I can't seem to find the solution.
I have a Satellite P300 PSPCCA-015015 (which came with Windows Vista when I bought it).
I did a clean install of Windows 7. Now a lot of things did not work with this OS so I want to re-install to the older version of windows.
The only thing is that I created a recovery disk and have lost them :(.
Now I still have the Hardrive that windows creates to put the recovery disk files in. All I need is to either 1 get the recovery disk creater software for my model or
the complete recovery disk to reinstall with factory setting.
Would you know where I could get any of these two.
As I am hatting WIndows 7 to death at the moment and Im regreting installing it and losing my disks :(

Oh also to let you know I am living in Japan now but I bought the Laptop in Australia so it has english OS, plus I was wondering how I would go about getting it posted to Japan.
or if I can go somewhere in Tokyo and get this fixed by a toshiba shop that does repairs.

Thanks I hope I can get an answer and a solution from someone.

Answer:Where and how to buy a Recovery Disk for my Satellite P300 PSPCCA-015015?

I don't know how it works in Australia but I believe you can order original recovery media by Australian Toshiba service provider.
I am not sure if they will send it to you but some friend of you can order and buy it for you and later send you to Japan.

I believe it is simplest way to get original Toshiba installations disc.

The BIOS is win-based and you could flash the ROM module using the win based BIOS version.

For that you need an installed Windows OS.

It looks like the boot manager on the HDD has been damaged but this should not affect the booting from recovery disk or other disks like Win XP, Vista, etc?

Please check if you can boot from disk like Win XP.
This should repair the boot manager.

Answer:Re: Satellite P100: Do I need backup the data using Recovery CD for Vista

Hi

The usage of the Toshiba Vista Recovery CD sets the notebook back to the factory settings. This means that you will get the same state like at the beginning.

The recovery CD formats the whole HDD and installs the Toshiba image which contains the Win OS Vista, Toshiba drivers, tools and additional software.

If you have installed any important data and files on the HDD then I would recommend running a backup before you will start the installation from the Recovery CD.

Hi everyone.

Two weeks ago I bought my first Toshiba notebook (P100-324). Before, I had many doubts about Toshiba equipment. Now I must say I am really very satisfied with the quality of your product. The notebook itself is great and everything runs smoothly.

Except one problem: in the box there was only one disc: the CD labeled "Express Media Player Recovery CD". When I checked the Toshiba's online database with my s/n it showed a Windows recovery DVD in the package listing. So I did what you guys recommend to do: contacted *all* the ASPs in Poland. Surprisingly, the customer service quality was not so good. Every one of them told me, that if there was no actual DVD in the box, there MUST be a hidden partition on my HDD, and if I want to buy the CD/DVD with the OS (that I have an OEM license/sticker to use: XP MCE) I have to pay about 20 EUR.

Wow. A price of 20 EUR for a single CD worth... 5 cents? (the media itself, not the software) Actually, when I was paying a lot of money for my notebook I expected something more in the terms of customer service. But anyway, I'm just a single customer, probably worth less than nothing to all those ASPs. So, after that long and boring prologue, here are my questions:

1) Should there be another DVD in my box that contains Windows XP MCE OEM installation?

2) If not - is there some uber-elite technique that Toshiba uses to hide Windows recovery partition from me? There are only 2 partitions on my HDD: one with 250 M... Read more

Answer:System recovery media is not delivered with my new Satellite P100

Hello Tomasz

First of all I am very happy to hear you are satisfied with your new P100. At the moment I use older Satellite M70 with ATI graphics but I am thinking about buying Satellite P100. Satellite P100 is for a long time on the market and I hope that very soon Toshiba will produce P100 ?successor?. Maybe something like P200 and I think I will wait for few months to see what happen in the future.

Back to your question:
As far as I know recovery DVD should be delivered with brand new and original packed product. On your notebook there is also preinstalled Express Media Player. This is small Linux based application that allows you watching DVD movies or listening audio CDs without starting operating system. It is preinstalled on small unallocated partition. Using delivered ?Express Media Player? recovery CD you can install it any time. As I said recovery DVD should be delivered with your notebook. But in this whole story one thing confusing me: Googling around I have found out that Satellite P100-324 is offered in Germany and Austria. Because of that I really do not know how you were able to buy this product in Poland? Have you bough it brand new or maybe as some showroom product.
Please give some more info about that.

Maybe is my posting too long but I just wanted to explain you one more thing. Maybe pretty important thing: Many users mix Toshiba and Authorized service partners. Every Authorized service partner is not Toshiba directly. All those partners are ... Read more

HI,

I need to make my recovery disc's for my Satellite P300 (PSPCCA-05V01Y) but the Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator isn't working, as it is saying that there isnt a HDD Recover file on the pc.
I tried before, and it had a problem with the core files, saying it was corrupt.
So I was wondering if there is anyway I can download the HDD Recovery installation so that I can install it and bring it back to the 'factory state' and reburn the recovery disc's?
Cheers for any help
Mikey

Answer:Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator isn't working on my Satellite P300

Hello Mikey

The situation is pretty complicated. When you got your notebook the recovery files was saved on second partition in ?HDDRecovery? folder. The second partitions and saved files should not be changed.

If you have done something with second partition or this folder Toshiba recovery creator cannot find these files and recovery media cannot be created. This will works with ?factory settings? only. but I see one other problem there.
Theoretically, you can now install OS again using HDD recovery installation procedure, and with factory state you should be able to create DVD but if the Toshiba recovery creator cannot find the files I am afraid the HDD recovery installation can have the same problem.

If you want you can test it. Try to start HDD recovery installation.

Sorry but I am a little bit confused. Did you write about Recovery DVD you got with your notebook or Microsoft installations CD?

I ask you this because, as far as I know, by usage of original Toshiba designed recovery image the user must not do much just start recovery procedure without adding any controllers or similar stuff.

I was wondering if someone could tell me if my recovery disk would automatically install the SATA hard drive drivers onto my P100-188, in the event of a total hard drive failure without the need for a floppy drive.

I've never had to use my recovery disk (touch wood) but I'm under the impression that it works in conjunction with a hidden partition on the hard disk to re-install the OS if and when needed, am I mistaken? If I am then what happens if the hard disk is destroyed and a new disk needed? A

s windows doesn't have SATA drivers incorporated I've read on the Internet that this can stop the installation dead in it's tracks if you don't have a floppy disk drive to hand.

Has anyone had to deal with this problem?

Answer:Satellite P100-188: Will recovery CD install SATA drivers onto a virgin HDD

Hi

Yes, the recovery CD will install everything what you need in one step.

The point is that the Toshiba Recovery CD is not the same like a original MS Windows CD. The recovery CD contains a image. It?s a package which includes the Win OS, Toshiba drivers, tools, utilities and additional software.

So using the recovery CD will install all the mentioned applications and also the SATA drivers ;)

I would greatly appreciate advice on the following.

My Sat Pro M70-220 (PSM75E-00D008G3), laptop has 4 partitions created by Acronis Disk Director Suit v9:

C: OS-Win XP Pro SP3
D: Programs
E: Data& Downloads
F: Backups

After booting the laptop into Win XP, I inserted the Toshiba Product Recovery CD into the DVD-RAM drive
and navigated to BMP folder, R:\G_INST\BMP, where I found the file "menu.bmp" which gives 2 Recovery
options:

*1. Recover entire Hard disk*
Warning . All stored data o your computer will be lost.
Factory pre-installed software will be installed.

*2. Expert Recovery Mode Warning:*
This is for PC experts only.
Factory pre-installed Software can be installed onto an existing partition.

My questions are with respect to using the "Expert Recovery Mode" :
- will I be able to use the "Expert Recovery Mode" of the Recovery CD to reinstall the Win XP Pro (factory pre-installed software) onto my C: partition, whilst not affecting the D, E & F partitions ?
- will I be able to format the C: partition, using the "Expert Recovery Mode", without formatting the other partitions ?
- what is the exact "Expert Recovery Mode" procedure ?
- where can I find further info on the "Expert Recovery Mode" procedure ?

Thank you

AlanCB

Answer:Re: Using Expert Recovery Mode in Product Recovery CD for Satellite Pro M70-220

>will I be able to use the "Expert Recovery Mode" of the Recovery CD to reinstall the Win XP Pro (factory pre-installed software) onto my C: partition, whilst not affecting the D, E & F partitions

Yes, this should be possible. Using the Expert Recovery Mode you should get the Ghost window in which you could select the partition where the OS should be installed. In such case only this partition would be formatted.

> will I be able to format the C: partition, using the "Expert Recovery Mode", without formatting the other partitions?

Yes, theoretically this should be possible.

> what is the exact "Expert Recovery Mode" procedure ?
As I mentioned above, this mode allows you to restore the OS on a certain partition and only this partition will be formatted.

> where can I find further info on the "Expert Recovery Mode" procedure ?

As far as I know recovery CDs can be obtained by authorized service partner in your country. To be honest M30 is pretty old notebook model and I hope ASP will be able to order one copy for you.

If you need addresses or phone numbers please check http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Download & Support > Find an ASP.

I have to restore the HD of my boy's Satellite A30.
He handed me only one DVD "Product Recovery DVD-ROM"
where it also states "2/2", which I assume it's disc 2 of 2.

This DVD seems not bootable. so I assume there might be a disc 1/2 which is bootable and contains the base recovery program.

My question: Am I right in above assumption and if yes, where can we get the first DVD, since my boy seems to have lost it.

Thanks for any help.

Peter

Answer:Satellite A30 Product Recovery CD

Hi,

you are right! There must be a No. 1/2 Recovery DVD!

If you (or your son) have lost it you can order a new one at every Toshiba Service Partner. You have only to sign a statutory declaration for MS that you have lost the CD!

At http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com when you go to Support & Downloads you will find a list of Toshiba Service Partners!

Hi,

I was having problems with my Satellite M40-136 laptop that I purchased a year ago. If I shut down the machine when I next turned it on it would give me a screen saying there was a problem going into Windows and gave me the option to 'start windows normally', 'start using last successful settings', 'start in safe mode', 'start in safe mode with networking' or 'start in safe mode with command prompt'. It would typically take several attempts before Windows would fire up ok, no matter which option I choose. However yesterday no matter have many times I tried it would not go into windows.

I decided I would have to use the product recovery dvd-rom to be a complete re-install (luckily I had backed up my personal files). I did this but at the end when it said to 'ctrl-alt-del' to reboot, on rebooting I got the same 'problem going into windows' message with the same options. I repeated the recovery process 2 more times with no luck.

This morning it did get further and asked me to go through the Windows setup process (i.e. giving the laptop a name, asking whether I wanted to register the machine with toshiba/microsoft etc) however it then popped up with 'problem going into windows' message with the options I mentioned before. No matter what option I choose it ends up back on this same screen.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Answer:Satellite M40-136 product recovery dvd

HI Nicky,

It is possible that you have a problem with your hard drive. Typically the operating system will always reside in the same sectors of the hard drive so even after a re-installation using your recovery CD the same sectors of the hard drive will have been used to store the OS files.

I suggest you try running a CHKDSK/F on your hard drive to see what it reports. Obviously id there are a lot of bad sectors then you will be looking at replacing the hard drive.

I have had this laptop for a while, it has been getting progressively worse over the years and now appears to have completely given up.

I can barely open anything without being asked which programme i would like to open it with, and web browsing is becoming next to impossible.

I have all product recovery disks but when i attempt to use them by following the instruction "Insert disk in to drive, turn on your PC whilst keeping the C key pressed" nothing happens, after a whole lot of bleeping windows continues to load.

I am close to throwing this thing out of the window (I live in a 3rd floor flat) but cannont afford a replacement. If anyone can offer me any advice whatsoever i'd very much appreciate it.

Thanks

Answer:Satellite Pro L10 - How to use product recovery?

Hi buddy,

If I understand you right you want to reinstall Windows. Is this right?

Therefore you should use the Toshiba recovery disk. As far as I know on old Satellite L10 there is no HDD recovery option available, so pressing the C key will not help you.

So insert the Toshiba recovery disk and start your notebook. Then go in the BIOS or BIOS boot menu and choose booting from CD/DVD drive.
The CD will start and you can reinstall Windows :)

Hello

I am an owner of notebook Toshiba Satellite L650-116. I purchased my laptop with original Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit (OEM licence). Unfortunately I am forced to reinstall my Windows 7 system but I realized that the sticker with my Product Key is wiped out (I cannot recognize any of the digits). I am not sure if I have recovery partition (I know there is a way to reinstall Windows if you have this partition).

Is there any chance that I can restore my Product Key without buying a new one?

I would be grateful for a prompt answer!

Answer:Product Key recovery on Satellite L650-116

Hi

At first I must tell you that product key that you can see on the Microsoft sticker is ?useless?. This product key belongs to original OS version that you have got with your machine so it cannot be used for Windows activation if you install your own version.

Try at first to install original recovery image, if possible. How it works you can read on - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R02.htm

But now it was getting slow and I thought to format it by using the original product recovery CD.

When I format it, it gives an error a about 25% of the formatting.
I tried to do it again and again but the same problem persists.

What I think i got the wrong Product recover CD as when it starts formatting it says loading Windows 98, but I have windows xp in my computer.

Could you please provide me the soultion or is it possible to get the right porduct recovery CD

Answer:Satellite L10-205 - Product recovery CD is not working

> What I think i got the wrong Product recover CD as when it starts formatting it says loading Windows 98, but I have windows xp in my computer.
This is not a fault? the Toshiba image which is on recovery disks for an older notebook series is based on Win 98 even so the Win XP is on the disk! So don?t worry it?s Win XP!

I?m not quite sure why you cannot recover the notebook but there are two options; either the HDD malfunctions or therefore the notebook was slower or the recovery disk is faulty (maybe due to some scratches, etc?)

In you case it would be advisable to test the notebook with other bootable disks (MS Win XP or Linux) in order to check if the HDD is ok?

I have a new Toshiba Satellite Pro L550-13M running Windows 7 and I fired it up this morning and it said Windows could not start and went into startup repair.

The last thing I did with it was last night, when I ran RegistryBooster2 and it cleaned up the registry. I've used this utility loads of times with this and previous notebooks and it's been fine. I guess it's caused the problem though. It backs up the registry, but I can't restore that because I can't boot up!

So, after rebooting a few times, it eventually said "Windows cannot repair this computer automatically". If I view the diagnostic and repair details, the log lists all these tests, but says they have completed successfully. I'm on repair attempt 38. During one of them, startup repair said it was fixing a registry problem.

If I try to view the advanced options for system recovery, and select a UK keyboard, I get this message:

"You must log in to access System Recovery Options"

and my only option is to click an OK button to restart.

So, I'm stuck.

I got a Windows 7 recover CD and running startup repair on that comes up with no errors!

However, because the notebook is so new, I haven't created any restore points or recovery disks (didn't have any blank DVDs at the time).

The notebook has a HDD recovery partition, but I can't run the recovery disk to access that option because of the "you must log in" thing above.

I'm stuck!!!!! Anyone out there with any idea... Read more

Answer:Satellite M40 does not read from product Recovery DVD

Seems the drive is not able to read the original Toshiba recovery CD.
According to your message I don?t think that the Recovery CD is faulty or scratched.

In my opinion the problem is related to the CD/DVD drive. Possibly the lens cannot calibrate properly after the notebook fall.

Now I get the Error message:

It seems there is something wrong on the HDD and the Toshiba recovery CD is not able to erase the HDD. Maybe because of some partitions.
You should try to delete and format the HDD on a different way and then to use the Toshiba recovery CD.

PS: You could try to boot up from another Microsoft CD. Usually the Windows CD deletes and formats the HDD.

Hi,

I have been using my x200 for a while now but Vista is acting up and I want to re-install the OS.
My worries is what information I might loose. The computer has 2 150gig HDs (it came with C: (Vista) 75g, D: (empty) 150gig, E: (empty) 75gig) so I am guessing the first HD was partitioned into 2 (C: & E:)
I have since installed Windows XP on the E: drive so I could have both operating systems. I have also lots of other stuff (music, pictures, videos, games, etc).

Before I do the restore I am going to move all my stuff from the C: drive to the other drives (I need to use both D: and E: because D: is full). I know C: will be completely cleared and the other drives shouldn't be touched. But I am untrustworthy! I am worried the E: drive will also be cleared as it is on the same HD. I would just like to hear from anyone who has done a system recovery on a x200 with the same drive setup.

Please don't just tell me to back everything up, I don't have a spare 200+ gig's lying around.

Yes, you are right. As far as I know the Toshiba Vista Recovery disk will format the whole HDD and will erase everything from the HDD; also the created partitions.

So before you will use the Recovery disk I would recommend backup the data on external HDD, DVD or similar?

Answer:Satellite P20-842: Question about product Recovery DVD-ROM

Hi

Don?t be afraid. Everything is ok.
The Recovery CD contains the ghost image files and it uses Windows 98 MS-Based system files for booting from CD.
This is usual that the Win98 message appears during the booting.
Furthermore the recovery CD formats and deletes the HDD automatically.
You have only to boot from this CD and you have to select the standard mode.

In such case the recovery CD will erase the HDD completely.

Does anyone know the European equivalent of the U.S. P105 S9337/9722 laptops. The drivers on the US site are completely useless so I checked the European site for the P100's and the driver list is fantastic. Also the site is much better organised. My laptop has PSPAGU on the back sticker. This seems to match the last Euro P100 entry on the driver list.

The Satellite P105 US series is similar to the European P100 series but you will not find any 100% similar European series to US series.
As you already said some single European drivers can work on the US notebook series.
You have to try simply to install the single XP drivers?
If some drivers will not run on you P105 then reinstall it and try to install another one?. Sorry but there is no other possibility to check the drivers compatibility.

Folks,

Another person sick of Vista. I purchased a new Toshiba P100-400 laptop on March 31st this year. I have now purchased a copy of Windows XP 64 bit to replace it.

Before I started an install I rang support here in Oz and they sent me to this page:

[url href="http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=EU&from=download _driver_details&action=search&selCategory=2&selFam ily=2&selSeries=152&selProduct=703&language=13&sel OS=10&selType=11&yearupload=&monthupload=&dayuploa d=&useDate=null&mode=allMachines&search=&action=se arch&macId=&country=1&action=search&page=1"]Toshiba Driver Download Page[/url]

I downloaded all the drivers but now when trying to install I find out the Nvidia driver is wrong: says the version of windows is wrong: probably a 32 bit problem. I searched for, and downloaded, a 64bit driver from Nvidia but it says no NVIDIA graphics card is installed. The only thing I am not sure about is whether my nvidia card is GeForce Go 7900 GTX or GeForce 7900 GTX.

Can anyone point me to the right drivers for XP 64 bit?

PS I did tell the support person that I had a copy of Windows XP 64 and not WIndows XP (32 bit).

Simon

Hello, my problem is pretty straightforward:

I won't to recover original configuration of my laptop, but my original, factory PR CD won't load.

It seems to be visible on other computers, comp in question has working disc drive (other CD's and DVD work alright) .

But everytime I try to start it, it tries to read it, after a while there's little *bip* sound, drive does some jarring sound, and everything repeats itself...

Disc cannot be even seen by the drive. It was literally never used, and starts on other PCs, so I doubt disc is dysfunctional...

So I'm not really sure WTH may be happening.

Thanks for any help.

Can anyone tell me what this means and how I can get past it to continue with product recovery on my laptop please?

Many thanks

maybe, your recovery disk is corrupted. What if you try with Windows copy disk?

Hi,

I am new to this forum and have spent 3 days reading through this and other forums to try to solve my problem, I have found many answers but none work for me so thought I would see if I could get some very much needed help here.

I have the problem that when I boot the laptop the windows logo appears then Microsoft corporation across the bottom and then the black screen with the whit cursor, now I have tried every type of boot possible in the bios settings and just goes back to that screen, I can?t get no command prompts or anything, I have used knoppix and managed to transfer any files I need to my external HDD, so thought I would just reset it to factory settings with the product recovery disc that came with the laptop, the disc has never been used or taken out of the packet till now so is in tip top condition, so I put it in drive, start computer press f12 and make CD primary boot, but all that happens is it says windows is loading files and I return back to the dreaded black screen and cursor.

Can anybody please help????

Answer:Satellite L450D - Cannot use product recovery disc

If you have original Toshiba recovery disc I presume you have pretty old notebook model with old WXP. To be honest it would be interesting to know which one do you have.

Anyway, out of curiosity but can you start preinstalled OS in safe mode?
Enter BIOS settings and set it to default at first. After ding this change BIOS boot order and set CD/DVD as first bootable device. Put recovery media into optical disc drive and start your notebook. While notebook try to start press ?C? button several times.

Usually this should force your notebook to use ODD as first bootable device.
Long time ago I had similar problem and such ?combination? helped me to force ODD to read recovery disc and WXP recovery installation. Of course I hope everything is OK with your HDD.

Please test it and send some feedback.

is it possible to get a new one, not especially in German, it can be in Polish (i prefer) and how much it will cost me

warranty booklet V8.02.05
manuals V5.16
record now V7.22BUILD720B80E
sd secure module V1.0.2

Answer:Satellite m40x-249 'Product Recovery DVD' in other language

The other tools are only additional software which is bundled with the notebook.
This software is available only on the Toshiba recovery CD and cannot be downloaded.
All other Toshiba drivers are published on the Toshiba page!

If you want you can order the Recovery CD from the ASP where you have bought the notebook. In you case it?s Germany.
Last but not least the recovery CD can be ordered only in the same language.
If you have bought the notebook in Germany, you will get only the Recovery CD in germane language.

I?m not sure about the costs but it should be not very expensive!
Contact the ASP and ask simply!

best regards
