Question: Satellite A300: Deleted HDD Recovery Files - How to download missing files

I had format a D: partition, where was a HDD Recovery file, now I can't recover my PC.
Easy question, Can I download that file from a Toshiba website or from another site?

Preferred Solution: Satellite A300: Deleted HDD Recovery Files - How to download missing files

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You cannot download the HDD recovery files or the Recovery image.
You can order the Recovery DVD from here:

I have read the threads that already exist, before anyone pounces with the obvious, however I don't see the answers to my specific questions, so I hope that someone can help.

Basically, my A300 was regularly overheating and turning off, and after a recent instance of this, I part disassembled it and cleaned the heatsink and surround thoroughly.

Unfortunately, on re-assembly, it became evident that Windows would not boot, presumably either due to some issue caused by the most recent power cut, or maybe even as part of my very careful disassembly??

Anyway, Vista will not boot, in any mode, either standard, in safe mode or in repair mode. As stadard, it blue screens with an error message UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME etc.

In repair mode, the windows logo and green bar comes up, but then it simply black screens and no more. The only slight variation I have had here is that sometimes a white cursor comes up, but still a black screen. I have left the machine for 30 minutes in case there was a simple delay, but no... nothing happens, it just hangs.

I have no recovery CD, because I didn't create one, however I have been able to access all the files through the Knoppix platform, and everything appears in order, so major HDD corruption seems unlikely.

I can see the folders for Toshiba HDD recover and also Windows RE, so my question to you people is this; Is there a way that I can use these files that are still in tact to recover Vista without purchasing a disk for 30 pounds... Read more

Answer:Satellite A300-1J1 - How to use HDD recovery files to install Vista again

Hey,

Unfortunately I think there is nothing what you can do because the files are useless if HDD recovery doesn?t work because you must be able to access the advanced boot menu of Windows.

I agree with you it?s not good that HDD recovery from Toshiba doesn?t work for you but you must also understand it?s your fault that you didn?t create the recovery disk as mentioned in user manual. ;)

So either you purchase a new recovery disk or you use a Microsoft Windows disk to reinstall Windows. All drivers and tools you can download on Toshiba page.

Answer:Satellite A300-1ID - deleted recovery HDD - backup does not work

hi,

You see, there was a hidden Toshiba recovery utility that you removed while formatting hdd. HDDRecovery folder you have doesn't help you.
You can order [Recovery disk|https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx] for money from Toshiba or get Windows disk to install, all drivers are available on [Toshiba Driver Page|http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp]

Hello,
I have a Satellite A300, and I mistakenly deleted HDD Recovery folder.

I have recovery discs, but I'd like HDD Recovery folder to restore my system without using the discs.

Please, can you tell me how to re-create the folder HDD Recovery?

Thank you very much

Hi,

Unfortunately, now it isn't impossible to recover it from hdd image, but with recovery disk only. You can only copy it from someone who has the same laptop with hdd recovery folder.

I have deleted the HDDrecovery partition by accident but i have all the files in the partition backed up.

Or make a recovery disc from the files? -
I have the recovery-disc-creator program if its possible to still use?

From my knowledge it?s not possible to create it again without a usage of Toshiba recovery disk? As far as I know this partitions contains also some marks which are necessary to boot from this partition.

> Or make a recovery disc from the files? -

Usually this Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator tool needs the HDD partition in order to create the Recovery Disk. But I doubt it will functions if you have already deleted this partition.
But nevertheless you could check it.
Create the partition (Vista disk management), copy this files on this partition and check if the this Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator tool would find this.

If not then I don?t believe that you could create such HDD partition?

In such case you will have to buy a Toshiba Recovery disk

Hi my name is Kanwar. I live in Toronto, Ca.

I purchased A300 toshiba laptop 3 month back, and made recovery DVDs the same time :-)
But i faced some problem and did tried to do recovery and i erased all data after taking backup, but while using my 1st DVD i faced a problem that PREINST2.SWM file is missing after about 12 minutes.

My DVD is brand new, without any scratches.
Also while creating the recovery discs, there was no issue, it got 100% successful.

What can i do now?
I need the laptop in my studies very urgent and its .....
I left message on 1-800- Toshiba also, but got no response :-(

Help me
u may reply here and forward on [email protected]
thnx

Answer:PREINST2.SWM file is missing while recovery procedure on Satellite A300

Hi

Did you try to use the HDD recovery procedure (if possible)???

Press F8, while notebook powering up. Choose repair my computer.
Then a new window will open. Then you could start the recovery from HDD.
But this would be possible if the HDD recovery folder has not been changed.

If HDD recovery is not possible, I recommend formatting the HDD using an Windows XP CD.
Then try to boot from the Toshiba Recovery DVD again.

Check it out

4. System will check for corrupted/ missing files. It will prompt you to insert your XP install cd if a file is missing.
5. It will take a while to run, but it whould be worth it :)

I don`t know if I post where I have to but i have a little question.

I have a HDD 250GB on my laptop - Toshiba Satellite A300 1G5. When I click properties on my C partition I have used 16GB but when I selet all files in C:\ shows me that I used 8GB. Where is the rest?

Answer:Satellite A300-1G5 - C:\ shows not all files

Hi

I?m not pretty sure but the ?rest? I think is the paging file size and some other important (hidden) Windows files.

So don?t be worry. It?s all ok. Not all files like the paging file size will be shown if you mark all files.

I have purchased a new laptop Satellite A300-1EC.
I was successful in completing the complete setup of the system.

When i check my drive i find only two drives "C" and "E".
Drive C is for operating system and "E" is data disc with one folder HDD1.

Now if i want to save my normal files like in word, excel etc... which is the drive to save my files.

Will saving in "E" effect the functioning of computers.

best regards to all

Answer:Can I save my files on "E" partition of my Satellite A300-1EC

Hi

I presume the partition ?E? contains data which is needed to start the Toshiba HDD recover.

I think you could save your files on the ?E? partition too but you shouldn?t change or shouldn?t delete any folders or data which already exist on the ?E? partition.

OK by my last post I said that I have a problem with the drivers it wasn't correct
Becuse I tried to install them from the CD player but when I see that isn't working I take my disk on key and copy all the drivers into the laptop hard drive and it's worked!

So now I have a new issue my CD drive not working well or to be correct not working at all after the XP installation.
I tried to copy file size 800 MB and it stops all the time after something like 1 min

So anyone maybe have idea way is that?

Answer:Satellite A300-1ND - Can't copy files from CD/DVD drive

Hi!

Have you tried another disk? Maybe the one CD is scratchy and doesn?t work properly.
Check this!

Furthermore you should try to remove the upper and lower filters. I can read in the forum that this does often solve some issues with the optical disk drive. Here is the Microsoft article that describes this workaround:

My PC (toshiba satellite A300 1J1) has been suffering from random freezes for the past month. A few days ago it froze so i restarted it and it failed to boot. It got as far as the scrolling green bar under the microsoft name and then doesn't progress any further. I have tryed booting it in all the different modes but to no prevail. I have tryed to do a system restore but it cannot find any restore points nor any files to reset it to factory specs.

The hard drive is working as i have been able to locate all of my files through command prompt. When i run the disk checker it says many of the files are unreadable so i want to reset the PC but cannot due to the lack of any reset points on either side of the partioned drive.

My PC came with no recovery disks and i fear that in the past i accidently deleted the recovery file on the HDD. What can i do? will Toshiba sent me any disks if i request them or will i have to wipe the drive and purchase windows 7 as a last resort?

Answer:Recover Deleted Windows 7 Recovery Files from Recovery Drive

You might be able to use a free recovery tool like Recuva or MiniTool Partition Wizard. But there are no guarantees that all deleted files will be recovered or that they will be in a usable condition.

Recuva - Undelete, Unerase, File and Disk Recovery - Free Download

MiniTool Partition Recovery

It may be safer to contact HP support and buy a set of recovery disks for your particular machine. I'm taking a guess that you are in India?

C:\Documents and Settings\TEMP.MY NAME\My Documents\C Drive Laptop Folders\My Documents\All The Rest of the Laptop Folders\More My Downloads That Need SortingOn previous occasions, while trying to tidy up my hard drive I found a folder labeled "Downloads" and renamed the folder so I would recognize more readily what it was as I purged other folders.  I don't remember if I intentionally moved anything to the folder or if everything was put in automatically when the files downloaded.  I've been afraid to delete anything from the folder because some of the files have the fancy icons that come with games and services.  The icons make the files seem important, but the address line says all the files are TEMP.  How can I tell if I actually need these files or if I can delete them? The non-fancy icons, such as "Word" or a pdf file are in black print, the fancy icons that are logos of the games or services/products ("Dream Day Wedding", "iTunes", "Adobe") are .exe files in live-link blue print. For the most part I want the games and need the Adobe products.  I don't use Symantec anymore and don't use iTunes, so I could experiment, if needed, with those .exe files.

Hi guys,

I'm running Win Vista 32bit Home Premium OS and everything used to be fine. Today I tried to download some files, it all went good, but when the downlaod was finished, the file dissapeared in front of my eyes.

ANY downloads get auto-deleted as soon as they are downloaded. I tried downloading from different servers, using different browsers -problem remains.

I can't download anything. Including no trojan scanner to test my PC. I got AVG, but all it gets is a few tracking cookies.
Might this be an evil virus ?

Anyone had similar thing or know what can I do?

Hi,

I deleted all the contents from the C:/Windows/SoftwareDistribution/Download folder after I got daily failed updates for Windows 10 that I never asked for (at the recommendation of my computer store). Then I read about the possibility of this causing problems with synchronization of installed updates and history and I restored the files from my trashcan but I'm still facing issues. Svchost.exe (the one with windowsupdate services) is hogging one of my processors for a few minutes more every day when checking for updates (I turned off automatic updates, just checking) and doing MSE definition updates (the latter now takes more than an hour after it already says it's complete in MSE and has been steadily increasing ever since I deleted files from the download folder). As my nr. of updates increases (especially MSE definition updates) it seems to have synchronization issues with what's listed in my history of updates with what's in that folder I think (I also deleted 2 folders named ~BT and ~BS that had windows 10 stuff in it, but I don't think this is causing any problems).

I read on another forum about the download folder that:

It's where windows update downloads and backups are stored.

if they have all been installed
and your computer is running in a stable condition,
it is safe to delete everything in that folder.

I have accidentally deleted an image file that I want to recover. I have been looking at the plethora of programs out there that offer file recovery. One of the best value for money appears to be "iolo search and recover" for $39 which also offers the functionality to create images of complete drives. One very inexpensive one is Filesaver $14.95 for a short period (but this does not have disk imaging). Before I plump for one, if anyone can make any recommendations - these or others - I would be most grateful.

don't know if this is the correct place to post this..but i run XP sp3 so figured it was a good as any.

i have accidently deleted a whole bunch of various files to the tune of 80 some odd GB from my portable hard drive.
Word Perfect, Word 2000, Excel 2000, jpg, tif, gif, pdf,

i have used recuva, diskdigger, glary undelete and free undelete so far.
when they said the file was in excellent or recoverable, i selected those ones.

but when i tried to open word perfect or excel they would not open.
most of the files that wouldn't open had Dl or D| preceding the sector number or name of file.

my question is....is there a way around this to open these files or are they really not recoverable even tho
the indication was that the file was in good shape.

i have read about various repair softwares, i tried one for word perfect and one for pdf. neither worked.

hope someone can give me some help.
thnx

Answer:Deleted files recovery

Chances are that something has written over the top of them by now. If you want to recover files, you should stop using the drive as soon as possible so that no more files get overwritten. You should then scan the drive by connecting it to another computer, or by using a boot CD or USB stick with recovery tools on it.
Parted Magic disk partitioning, PC repair, and file recovery tool (Bootable CD or USB image)
If you prefer a bootable USB key, download and run Linux Live USB Creator. Choose the Parted Magic distro, and it will download it and automatically create a bootable USB key.

This CD (or key) contains many useful tools. You can partition, recover files, recover lost partitions, make disk images (by several different methods), transfer files between media, scan for viruses (It can serve as an Alternative Trusted Platform for search and elimination of rootkits and bootkits), examine and benchmark hardware, access the internet, and much more.

Most of the files in the program files are ones that originally came with the computer, but files are missing such as MS Office. The funny thing is that it has kept files that I have installed such as avira, weatherzone tracker, firefox. All work except firefox.

I had the Windows 10 install files in $WINDOWS.~BT and $Windows.~WS totalling >5GB. A few days ago I decided to also download the Windows 10 ISO.

I've now found that the 5GB+ installation files have been deleted.

I'd like to have both options regarding the upgrade and so would like to re-download the installation files. How do I get them re-downloaded?

If I click the Get Windows 10 icon the only option is Upgrade Now, not what I want - unless that will initiate a download and then give me the option of not starting the actual upgrade.

Hope this makes sense.

Answer:Download installation files deleted after downloading ISO

I know you want to have both options, but it really is not necessary. You have the ISO file. That's more than enough.

As to the disappearance of $Windows.~BT and WS....................
Did you do any disk cleanup using the built-in Disk Cleanup or using Ccleaner ?
Did you recall you selected to delete the "Previous installation file " in order to delete windows.old ?
I know that happened to me when I used Ccleaner and selected that option under Advanced heading.

DON"T DOWNLOAD WINDOWS 10! I just executed the Free Windows 10 download. Once the system rebooted, I got a lovely message saying all of my files are exactly where I left them. Not true! I lost everything on the desktop, some software was deleted. I'm now working with a tech to help resolve the issues. Microsoft has created a horrible issue resulting in a time and tech costs. Hi,

I recently deleted HDD Recovery files off the second partioned hard drive on my laptop so I could merge it into one hardrive.
Upon doing so I realised HDDRecovery may important.

However I am a bit confused if you backed this up to DVD/CD which I have done anyway is this the same utility?

So therefore I would have nothing to worry about?

Answer:Worried about deleted HDD Recovery files

Hi

The HDD recovery was a useful option which would allow you to recovery the notebook without the usage of the Recovery DVD.
You could simply recover the notebook using the HDD recovery option.

But now this will not be possible because you have changed, deleted the HDD partition and therefore you could use only the recovery disk.

I think it will not help to copy the HDD recovery files to the new partition because the previous HDD recovery contained some hidden signs and flags which pointed to the HDD recovery settings?

Hello,

I ran the recovery program and now a lot of my word/excel, etc. files are missing. All photos are also gone. Restore won't let me restore past the date the recovery was ran. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Answer:I ran recovery and it deleted files & photos

Ouch !
Generally not easy.... but there are some software programs that offer to recover data-- You can try using a knoppix live cd--- You download the file (freeware), and save thw iso file, then use your burning software to burn to cd - then run it live from the cd, and it is sometimes possible to copy the files ( they are still on the disc, just not accessable, without outside influence, like this.

hi,

I know this might sound silly, but I have a usb 256mb pen drive and I accidently deleted a file which I then couldnt find anywhere. Not in the recycle bin (win xp pro). I thought there may be a hidden recycle bin on the pen drive so I selected the show all files option in explorer which did not help at all.

Hoping that someone else has an idea

Thanks in advance

Answer:USB pen drive missing deleted files

You have to use some file recovery software. Your USB drive is probably in FAT32 format so undeletion should be easy. Just make sure you don't write anything on the stick - better use the write protection switch right now.

Hi,

Wondering if anyone can help?

Was unable to download any files would say file contained a virus and was deleted, I did some research and my understanding was that the computer was infected with a virus.  I deleted my anti virus software as some sites instructed to, I am currently using Trend Titanium.  I ran Windows defender offline which removed a Trojan virus.  I also downloaded malwarbytes onto a usb from my laptop and also ran this on the infected PC this removed 4 Trojans, also windows firewall and defender was not working, I got firewall working by adding something into the registry (as instructed to on another site) now I am left with no windows defender and this error saying all files deleted due to virus.  I currently  have not re installed my anti virus yet as I am trying to fix this first.  I have done several system restores also and this has not fixed it.  Does anyone know what this problem is and how to fix it without completely wiping my computer?

Thanks,
Kelly

Answer:Unable to download files "file contained a virus and was deleted"

This is most likely a ZeroAccess Rootkit. If you cannot do this on that PC try running DDS (in the Guide) from a Flash Drive. If you still cannot run DDS, then just open the new topic (Guide, step 7) with the original question. Mention you cannot run DDS.Title your post Probable Zero Access. Please follow this Preparation Guide and post in a new topic.Let me know if all went well.

I recently installed a program called zoomdownloader and i decided to uninstall it, instead of using the uninstall.exe I just put all the files in the recycling bin and deleted them there, Now I cant download a single file from any browser( i've tried internet explorer and firefox). when i try to download from firefox nothing happens when i hit save file, when i try internet explorer a error comes up( the error is in the picture i attached). please help.

Answer:deleted program called Zoom downloader, now cant download files.

If you have a Restore Point from before from before you deleted the files, you can try restoring it.
When you list your Restore Points, you can "Scan for affected programs" to see if zoomdownloader is listed.

You can also read through this tutorial by Brink for more ideas that might help.

Hello,
I am using a HP notebook with Windows 8.1. When I purchased the laptop the D drive was set aside for 17gb worth of recovery files. I was attempting to re-partition the harddrive so as to be able to save things to a place other than the main C drive. I hold only base computer knowledge and managed to delete the only visible file within the D drive. I am unsure the name of the file. The file was roughly 230mb so the rest of hidden files remain. My question is as follows.

Is the inability to do a system restore or recovery important?

If so, will I be able to restore my computer at this point?

If not, how can I replace the file in order to do so?

If unable, would a fresh installation of Windows fix my error?

I do not have ready access to the Windows installation discs and codes/keys required so this would be the last resort hopefully. I don't know enough about this subject to even ask another intelligent question (or rather an intelligent question). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ryan

I have a 1T WD Black with 2 partitions. The 1st partition is C: 120G, running XP Pro SP3, approx 17G used, NTFS, free space listed 9G. The adjacent partition D: is empty. Free space listed 88G. (Paragon Partition Manager correctly lists the free space.)

I went looking for hidden files with TreeSize, and on D: I found tracking.log in System Volume Information. I have system restore turned off (I use EAZ Fix). In TreeSize, tracking.log was listed as 20KB, but found out it was taking up over 800G of space. I changed the permissions, accessed the folder, and deleted tracking.log, but it just kept coming back.

I tried chkdsk/f many times on D: (C: was okay) but would never complete step 5. Ran WD?s diagnostics which came out okay. Re-formatted D: many times (quick and regular, in windows, cmd prompt, and Paragon), still no luck.

I wiped the Recycler folder and a strange thing happened. After I wiped, I checked the SVI folder for tracking.log (it came back-deleted again). Went back to the Recycler folder and 3 new files showed up-DK2.ini, INFO2, DK3 (no extensions on these files).

Opened the DK2.ini file and this is what was written:
[.ShellClassInfo]
CLSID={645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F}

Wiped all the files, then INFO2 reappeared, and DK4, DK5 files showed up..

In safe mode I ran a virus scan with Eset Smart Security, and MalwareBytes which found nothing significant.

Then last week I was re-formatting once again, when the computer crashed. After it booted u... Read more

I transferred photos, through Bluetooth, from my Blackberry to my laptop that is running Windows 7. They appeared in a Temp file (under Local) but have since disappeared. Is there a way to retrieve them? Does this mean I have something on my computer that automatically deletes these files? Thank you for any help, let me know if I need to provide more information!

Answer:Missing local temp files - not manually deleted

Is there a way to retrieve them?Click to expand...

I assume that you've already checked to make sure they are not in the Recyle bin. You could try a Data Recovery program. I've used Recuva and Recuva Portable. Remember that every write to the hard drive is potentially over-writing the deleted files.

Does this mean I have something on my computer that automatically deletes these files?Click to expand...

I do not know. I have a batch file that runs at startup that deletes the contents of %temp%, but I do not think there is a Windows feature to do that automatically.

I'm wondering why you copied/moved them to a temp folder, and why you left them there.

I don't know if this question has ever been asked.

I want to know if anyone knows of a piece of software or a way to clean deleted file entries from directories permanently.

I'm asking because I have downloaded a few freeware and shareware programs and tested them for recovering deleted files. I did get one of them to work and recover the deleted files but the problem is it takes so long to scan the drive and it displays so many results it takes forever to search through them for the files I actually want to recover. So what I want to do is run some software that will clear all deleted file entries from my directory listings permanently (zero them out or something.) This way the next time I have to recover a deleted file the list will be much shorter after scanning the drive.

I have Windows XP Pro installed and have 2 physical drives with a total of 3 partitions. The first drive is formatted with 2 NTFS partitions and the 2nd drive is formatted with 1 FAT32 partition (moved this drive with a lot of data from another PC and don't want to bother reformatting to NTFS.)

Anyways the last time I scanned the E drive (FAT32 - 80GB) it took about ten minutes to scan the drive for recoverable files and listed som 50,000 - 60,000 files that could be possibly be recovered. Even using filters to limit the list I came up with 27,000 JPG files (as I was trying to recover about a dozen JPGs I accidentally deleted.) I was able to find them without an incredible amount of di... Read more

Hi ! I just got a Lenovo IdeaPad P580. I did a first backup with OneKey Recorery successfully. Then, some days later, I wanted to do it again, but I added a lot of files, so it didn't work because the backup wouldn't have enough space. I didn't realized that the D: disk only purpose was to content the factory settings (or near them), but nothing more. I put the drivers and the applications (but not the backup) from the D: disk on a DVD, and I wiped out everything. I wanted to free some space...Now that I realized the D: drisk was only there to store factory settings, I'd like to get the original backup back to have at least a D: partitition useful for something in case of emergencies... Otherwise, it's useless and I could merge it with C:, and do backups with an exeternal disk, but I'd like to avoid doing that...

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad P580 and deleted OneKey Recovery files

Ok i'm not sure i understand everything you wrote for example:''I did a first backup with OneKey Recorery successfully'' What exactly did you do and how  did you do that? And:  ''and I wiped out everything. I wanted to free some space.''' Did you wipe just the D: or ...? To get your system back to factory settings (?nitial state, just as it was the day you bought it) please double cklick the One Key Recovery(OKR) ?con on the desktop click on 'System Recovery' A notice will pop up asking you 'Do you want to reboot your computer into the System Recovery Environment' Click Yes and then just follow instructions. When it's done evrything that should be there, will be(hopefully anyway).. Do let us know what happens.

After experiencing an error with windows, it wouldn't start up and said I was missing the hal.dll files, I fired up the windows recovery program. It worked like a charm, replaced windows and the hal.dll file, however all my folders with docs and pictures on the desktop that were there previously (which accumulated over years) were not there anymore. Is there any way to recover these missing folder and files? They weren't saved on the c: directly but only on the desktop. I tried system restore but it said there were no system recovery points I could recover from.
Does windows make a backup of these desktop files before it deletes them?
Please help anyone, thanks!

Answer:System recovery for xp deleted my personal files on desktop, can I recover them?

If the computer hasn't been used much since the recovery most of your files will be intact.

The tricky bit is getting them back. The only real way to retrieve your data is to remove the hard drive, plug it into another computer as a second drive and run a piece if recovery software over it.

The first two links are to free recovery software, the third is paid for - this one does work very well.

Answer:Satellite U - How to recover deleted files from mysafe?

I am not 100% sure but I think that data from this folder will not be removed to recycled bin at first but they will be deleted immediately.
How to recovery them? Good question?

Try to find some third part applications that can scan HDD for deleted files. The point is that this will work if the FAT (File allocation table) is deleted only. That means the file is on the HDD but the HDD doesn?t know where exactly.
Hmmm ... it is not so easy.

Hello, I have done one of the stupidest things in the world and have been trying all day to recover my files that went missing.  Here's what happened:
I deleted a bunch of registry entries because Spybot S&D always showed these five things as threat level 5 and can't clean them.  I decided to search the registry for the string of numbers and letters that S&D referred to and deleted all of the ones it would let me delete.
I also deleted all of the files and folders in the location Users/HomeAppData/Local/Temp except the one file it wouldn't let me.
When I came back to Windows nothing was working so I rebooted.  When I rebooted all of my programs, files, everything was gone.  I did a system restore to the most recent point which was from a week ago which turned everything back to normal except some very important files are missing from a folder on my desktop.
I am a musician and have been working on a recording which I save as I go as multiple versions ex. song 1.1, song 1.2, etc.  All of the versions that were created after the available system restore date are gone.  But it's weird because the bounces that I did (wav files not pro tools files) from the later versions are there, just not their pro tools session file counter parts.
I've restored all of the files/folders to Users/HomeAppData/Local/Temp however that didn't change anything.

it's possible that your user profile could not be loaded properly.  Check in C:\Users for a folder similar to your username but with a TMP or 1 or .old extension.  For example, my user profile may be C:\Users\Calum but if it got corrupted, my profile may be C:\Users\Calum.TMP or C:\Users\TMP.  You may be logged on using either the old profile or the new one, so if there are two or more similarly named profiles, check them all.It seems very unlikely that your programs could have simply gone, perhaps it's just the shortcuts which are missing?  Deleting a few registry keys should not have uninstalled your programs and deleted the whole user account, that's why I suspect it may just be a corrupted profile.  Have a look around under C:\Users and see what you find.

Hey everyone!
Just a few details:
Laptop: HP dv2050us
OS: Windows XP Home SP3

So I was downloading a trial version of nero and my entire computer decided to hate me. I'm pretty sure it was a virus. It changed my registry somehow and has deleted important files to ensure that the computer works.
I'm running XP home and the cute little log-in window doesn't come up anymore (it's just the boring username: password:). Also, I wasn't able to access any of the files in the control panel -- it said I was missing rundll32.exe (I downloaded that and put it in C:/WINDOWS/system32) -- so it works now.

I want to just stick my recovery cds into my computer, but when I do, my computer doesn't read them. I've checked the device manager, and CD-ROM is not there, but I have the option to boot from my CD-Rom drive when I look at my BIOS.

I don't know what to do :(
PLEASE HELP!!

Answer:CD/DVD-Rom Drive missing and System Recovery files missing

First thing you're going to want to do is back up any files that you want to keep. Since you can't use your cd drive in windows, you'll have to use a flash drive or an external hard drive. Just copy and paste the files you want to keep onto the storage device (I suggest you do this in safe mode if possible and that you don't copy any (large) folders as there might be hidden files within them that are infected).

Once you've gotten all your files backed up, you have two choices:

1) Follow the steps here and start a new thread in the Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help forum (be patient as the analysts are very busy and it can take a while for them to get to you).

2) Wipe the hard drive with a program like dban and reinstall Windows (this is a good guide on how to reinstall windows; if you don't have the disk with all your hardware drivers that came with the computer, then you should also download all the drivers from the manufacturer's website and save them to a cd/flash drive/external hard drive to help speed up the process; if you go this route, you will also have to reinstall any programs that you currently have on your computer).

You could also try to run a repair install of Windows, but, if it really is a virus, then that probably won't help all that much in the long term

Answer:G580 - How do I download Recovery Drivers Files?

Those are hidden files, not usually viewable from within Windows OS.   If the recovery worked then they are in place, just not viewable - as they should be.

Do not write over or use that drive for anything or you can cause issues with future recovery efforts.

Hi there,

I have vista home premium on a vaio vgn-nr38e, pentium dual CPU T2390 @ 1.86GHz, 2GB RAM, Mobile Intel (R) 965 Express Chipset family.

Laptop has been a bit funny since the HD was replaced a couple of weeks ago. The guy who replaced it added office 03 & reinstalled some other applications. The trouble all started this morning when MS office 2003 kept trying to configure, couldn't download anything & trying to start any programme just triggered the configuration box & announcement of sku011 missing file error. Tried system restore, etc. nothing worked. Eventually managed to get around that by updating to the office 07 from disk that the laptop came with.

Nearly all my desktop items won't work now although I can download files, despite specifying the location the file should be saved in, it isn't there when I look, hence why I can't give a hijack this log. But they won't uninstall due to missing components so I can reinstall either.

I ordered recovery disks from for my HP compaq nc6000 laptop, which has XP Pro.

When I tried to do an installation using the disks I received, there were MANY files that could not be found on the recovery disks. I had no choice but to continue with the installation, and now my system is having problems.

Why do the recovery disks not have all the files necessary to do a system restore? Any idea how to fix the problems? For one thing, after booting, the mouse gets stuck, and I have to manually turn off the PC.

I'm willing to upgrade my Win7 to Win10 before offer expires, but about an year ago I had a very bad crash due to virus on my HD and IT services provider replaced my HDD by a new one as they coudln't erase the cause of my HDD issue. With that ontervention I have lost the original partition that had the Recovery files on it.How do I get this computer to it's factory defaults before upgrading to Win10? Reason for doing it is that original software was Win7 Home edition and current one is Professional (IT company requirements), but I don't want Win10 Prof version but rather the Win10 Home edition as this laptop will now only work within my home network.Any help will be appreciated

I am at the point where I need to perform a back to factory settings recovery process. Unfortunately, as I went to create the recovery disks an error informed me that a file was missing. After discussing with technical support I was told that the file most likely became corrupted over time. In addition, my warranty expired several months ago. I find it distressing that due to a corrupted file in a separate partition of the T500 laptop that I had to PAY Lenovo for new recovery disks. In addition, I recommend a Customer Service Board on the Forum. The gentleman I spoke with in your Atlanta call center was terse and unprofessional. After I asked him where to lodge a complaint he suggested I use this blog, and then asked, "Do you want to do this or not?" Afterward, he put me on hold for nearly 10 minutes while he rebooted his computer. After transferring me to a customer rep to take my payment information he had a side conversation without putting the phone on mute. Lenovo has lost not just a fan, but a customer in my future IT needs. - Adam

Hello, A friend conscientiously made the recovery disks when he got his machine, and now needs to use them. Much to his and my dismay, some of the files on the disks are corrupted in some way or another. He upgraded the hard drive after making these disks and had wiped the original drive in order to re-task it, so nothing from it is available. The machine is out of warranty, of course, so I understand that support will be ... less than supportive. Where might I be able to download disk images (preferably in DVD format) or perhaps the individual image files which are damaged? I can provide a list of them and which of the recovery disks they are from.  Would anyone consider making such available for download or uploading them to a website? You can privately contact me at  tumbleweed underscore biff at yahoo dot com.  Thank you in advance. The machine is a 7650-9LU Mike

Hi,

I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite S50-a-10R ( in october) and i'm having a big problem!

If i try to download something via U-orrent (or any other torrent clinet), or transfer some files the computer lags A LOT, even freezez, it's really unusable.

I have Windows 8.1 on it, and opening the task manager it says that the average response time is ~ 4s if i download with 300kb/s ( on torrents) or transfer something at around 20 MB/s ( from a partition to another, or from a externat HDD to my laptop).

I checked the HDD for bad sectors, and it's clean.

This all began when i started downloading some movies ( with around 5MB/s - torrents ) and the utorrent froze ( it said not responding) and shortly after that, the whole system froze.

I shut down the computer using the power button and restarted it. After the long restart ( it actually took about 5 minutes or so... which is unusual) i only saw 1 of my 3 partitions ( just the system partition).

I ran a ubuntu disk and backed up my data, and erased and formated my whole disk, reinstalling windows.

After the reinstall, the problem persists.
I tried again using utorrent, but this time at around 300kb/s download speed it began to lag so hard that it took me about 15 minutes to close the pc using the normal shutdown procedure.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm thinking it's the hard drive, but maybe it's something else....

Thx

Answer:Satellite S50-A-10R freezing and lagging while files download

Hi

In my opinion you should reset the notebook back to factory settings.
Should recover the notebook using the internal Recovery procedure or the Recovery medium you could create using the Toshiba Recovery Medium creator.

If the notebook would not run properly after such recovery, there must be an hardware problem.
For me it sounds a little bit like a HDD problem especially when I?m reading this:
>I shut down the computer using the power button and restarted it. After the long restart ( it actually took about 5 minutes or so... which is unusual) i only saw 1 of my 3 partitions ( just the system partition).

I have a Satellite C70D-A-114...

i hardly used it because it was slow

so i wanted to sell it

first i wanted to set it back to factory settings

doing that, in that process i seem to have deleted all files

so now i get message no bootable disc etc.

Tried everything, there is simply no recovery file

So where can i find such a file for free? It's just not normal that it is not on the site.

Answer:Need recovery files for my Satellite C70D-A-114

All you can find for free are all drivers, tools and utilities. Original recovery image (software package) is not for free and if you need it you must order recovery disc directly by Toshiba.

You can order it on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

By the way: in user’s manuals document is clearly described how you can create recovery installation disc. I’m wondering you didn’t make it in the past.

Bought a Satellite M60 two weeks ago and now need to re-install some of the program's located on the ?Product Recovery DVD-ROM TOSHIBA' that were provided with the laptop.
However, when I insert the disk I can't open the two files in the disk because the computer fails to recognize the file format.
The two files are named: LDZKK020.002 and the other: LDZKK020.PQI Where or how do I get access to the program that enables me to open the two files?

Grateful for any replies....Bosse

Answer:Satellite A60: Can’t open the recovery files

Hi

These two files are Toshiba image files. As far as I know it?s not possible to open these files. If the Image is bigger than 2 GB in this case the image will be split in two files.

But which programs did you reinstall?
If you need a Microsoft OneNote you can download this from Microsoft website and you can activate this with the delivered serial number. But the best way is to recover the OS with your Recovery CD.

Best regards

Bye

Dear madame/sir,

I have a question about a crashed U940-11C.

The laptop crashed after being shut down during recovering procedures from Windows. I think Windows is damaged, therefore the laptop won't start up again. When turing the laptop on the following message is shown: reboot and select proper boot device. See following image:

The files on the hard drive are very valuable to me, therefore the hard drive cannot be reset before I recovered the files. I tried recovering the files by booting Ubuntu from an USB-flash drive. Ubuntu started without any difficulties. The problem is that Ubuntu is not able to find the Windows hard drive. At starting Gparted the following errors occurred:

1. Warning: /dev/sda contains GPT signatures, indicating that it has a GPT table. However, it does not have a valid fake msdos partition table, as it should. Perhaps it was corrupted -- possibly by a program that doesn't understand GPT partition tables. Or perhaps you deleted the GPT table, and are now using an msdos partition table. Is this a GPT partition table? :

2. The backup GPT table is not at the end of the disk, as it should be. This might mean that another operating system believes the disk is smaller. Fis, by moving the backup to the end (and revmoving the old backup)? :

3. Not all of the space available to /dev/sdb appears to be used, you van fix the GPT to use all of the space (an extra 39007920 blocks) or continue with the current setting? :

Hi

I suggest you use the disks-tool in Ubuntu to mount your Windows partition.
If the partition is corrupted from an aborted recovery (or other reason) you will need to invest a lot of time and effort to succeed salvaging your data.

Hello! This is my first post to this forum. I have recently purchased a Thinkpad T400, I am however having some issues, and was hoping that you guys could help me.  I have received my Thinkpad with Windows XP pre-installed, together with a few Windows Vista recovery discs. I have never used Vista before, and so I am trying to create some recovery discs for XP, just in case I want to stick to XP. However, when I try to create the recovery discs, I only get this message: "The files needed to create recovery media is missing." I have just tried updating Rescue and Recovery to the latest version, but still the same error message. I have tried to search the forums to see if someone else have had this problem, but they all seem to be slightly different from my own problem. Does anyone have any suggestions?

So here my situation; I built my own PC last year and I've done several OS upgrades in that time frame. First I started with windows 7 basic which I then promptly upgraded to 7 ultimate because my university offered upgrades for $7. I then upgraded to 8 when it first came out and then 8.1 too. I put a new SSD in my PC and copied all my 8.1 data on to it I then turned the old SSD in to a second boot drive for OS X. I?m having problems with 8.1. I wanted to create a repair drive to hopefully root out and fix whatever is causing windows explorer to crash. It?s not a virus I've made sure of that. I have a feeling whatever caused this happened when I upgraded to 8.1 and then copied over the SSD. i also have no idea what my product key is for 8.1 pro i just found the email microsoft sent me with my windows 8 key if that helps but i have no disc.

when i followed the instructions to make a recovery drive it told me that some of the required files are missing and to use a windows installation disc or media which is a problem because all my windows 8 upgrades have been done online. what do you guys suggest?

also my PC currently doesn't have a disc drive i removed it because i only ever used it to install windows 7 basic(i think).

Hello. My wife and I recently got her mother a new computer and I received her old laptop for free. I have ordered new ram and an ssd to upgrade the computer to make it more usable for my needs. I went to do a full system restore so I could easily get her information off and put mine on, but she didn't get a recovery disk when she bought the computer. I went to go create recovery media on a usb, and it says that there are required files missing. I checked out the hdd and there appears to be no healthy recovery partitions on the drive. I am willing to buy a new windows key to install onto the ssd, but I am worried that I will not be able to find all the drivers necessary to make the computer run properly again. If it were a computer I had built that would be one thing, but I am not sure of all the components in this laptop. I am also concerned with that option because the bios does not appear to give me control of boot priorities, and I read that some bios's have the windows key attached to them. I am looking for any advice that you can give on my situation. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Upgrade to ssd, missing recovery disk/required files

SluRpiii Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! First of all, you report using Win10, but since this PC did not come with Win10 preinstalled, there is no way to get recovery media for that OS for this PC. Second, this PC came with various OSs preinstalled, the most recent being Win8.1 -- and unfortunately, HP does not provide Win10 drivers for this PC.  So, if you install Win10, you will have to struggle with installing Win8.1 drivers in compatibility mode, and while that MIGHT work, there is no guarantee, and if any driver upgrades fail, you will be left with a PC with some functions not working. If this PC came with Win8 of Win8.1 preinstalled, the product key is embedded into the UEFI firmware of the motherboard and restoring it using HP Recovery Media will automatically reuse that key.  Problem is, that HP does not appear to stock the recovery media for this PC anymore. You can try contacting HP Customer Support directly, using the links below, to see if you can order if from them:If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html---------------------------------------However, HP Customer Support is generally not available on the weekends, so you might have to wait until Monday to contact them.---------------------------------------&nbs... Answer:File missing-How to restore files from recovery disc?

Hello and welcome to the forums Exorep!

That looks like the output of a HiJackThis scan to me.

Try going to an administrative command prompt and type in sfc /scannow to scan for and hopefully replace those coponents:-

1. Click Start Orb
2. In search box, type cmd
3. Right-click on cmd.exe, and choose 'Run as Administrator'
4. In the prompt type in sfc /scannow and hit Enter.

Hope that helps!

EDIT:- HiJackThis has issues with 64bit Windows and that 023 (file missing) is one of them. This may be a case of false positives detected with your system.

Windows 8.1
Started a new account, with admin privileges. Deleted old account also with admin privileges. Selected the "KEEP FILES" option. Deleted account. A folder pops up in desktop, with the computer's name. Under that folder there was another folder with old user name, and under that folder there was yet another folder also with old user name. Completely empty.
Desktop>[COMPUTERNAME]\[USERNAME]\[USERNAME]\Empty
I don't have a restore point to which to retrieve my files. The c:\ disk says there is 600GBs of free space, previously I had only 300. All the library from my old user account have been wiped. I also checked Recycle Bin which is empty. The current account has admin privileges and is set to show hidden files. I was told that it might be under c:\Users. I checked that with CMD and two folders were titled "." and "..", they don't show under file explorer.

I am running Recuva right now, but from what I understand that won't be able to restore file names and fragmented files, which are both critical. I also had an encrypted file with a none standard extension which might be ignored by Recuva.

Answer:Deleted User Account, Selected Keep Files, lost all files

Hello Abe, and welcome to Eight Forums.

I'm not sure what went wrong, but this is a perfect example of why you should always back up anything that you do not want to lose first to be safe.

I hope Recuva may be able to recover your files for you.

Did you have any system images or Windows backups to restore them from?

Hello, i have a samsung qx411-w01 and i was having issues with it such as blue screen crashes, several program crashes etc. Unfortunately, my system restores got cleaned out and there was not a way to go back before the errors started. I decided to use Samsung Recovery Solutions to restore my windows files but instead of a quick restore i mistakenly did a complete restore which restored my entire windows drive (not just folder) and deleted ALL my personal files and reverted my computer to the state it was when i got it in 2012. Im currently trying to get my files back using recuva but everything is disorganized and i have no idea how to get it all back... I want to recover entire folders but the files are scattered. I mostly just want music, playlists, pictures, documents, videos, pdfs, etc. Im not worried about reinstalling the programs and settings. I havent been touching my computer much because i dont want deleted files to get overwritten. I really need help restoring my computer to what it was, what should i do? Please help

Answer:All personal files deleted. Files scattered on Recuva

Hmm, Getting those files back seems to be hard, but let's do it...
Go to computer> C partition>Users ---- Your old user account should be stored here, open it and your deleted files might be stored here.

I deleted my user files by mistake so nothing has left. I even can't tap the start. Using windows 10.

Answer:I deleted user files by mistake in C: files. Using windows 10.

How did you achieve this? Doesn't it show several prompts before you can delete your profile? Also, I thought you couldn't delete it while using the account?
Unfortunately, I do not know how to fix this other than to create a new user profile.

Hi there,

Sorry if this is in the wrong section!

I recently got a new additional desktop at office that has Windows 7 Professional loaded on it. I use my laptop as the primary computer, but need to start using the desktop for other routine activities.

I need to run a vbs/exe file in the background, as soon as the Windows loads up. I copied few files and everything works well. I had saved the program along with the vbs & exe file in 'C:/Program Files/New Doc' (no specific reason). But when I restart my desktop, all the files get deleted. I was reading online about this and I figured, this could be because Windows 7 is booting on the network? I am not sure, but that explains why all the files I download get wiped/deleted on the next restart.

I was wondering if you can help me out in three things:

1) Can you confirm if Network Boot is the reason why files are getting deleted?

2) Assuming Win 7 is working on Network boot, is there a folder/location where in which, the file I save are not deleted in the next restart?

3) My main concern is that, I need to run this VBS/Exe file on Windows startup, but because all the files get deleted on start up, I can't put the file in the Startup folder or use the Task Scheduler or Group Policy to get this file working on Startup.

Thanks a lot in advance. Any help is appreciated!

EDIT: As this is a desktop that is going to be shared with 2 more colleagues, I don't want use a USB or other external drives to run the file vbs/exe file.... Read more

Answer:Files get deleted with Network Boot (Need autostart of files)

It sounds like you may have Time Freeze, Returnil, or some other "sandbox" software running that uses the Shadow Service to divert downloads and file copies to a cache rather than the actual disk drive folder. When the system is booted the cache is discarded. Files all gone.

Try downloading and running AutoRuns and look for these programs. If you don't see any I mentioned then you may have to search on any you don't recognize.

I have been trying to create a Windows 10 recovery drive with Back up system files to the recovery drive checked. When I first tried, it would fail giving me the message  "We can't create a recovery drive" with the added info "A problem occurred while creating the recovery drive".

Then I did a clean boot. It got a little farther and started writing to the USB drive but got stuck at maybe 15%. It failed and said some files are missing.

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 series 7559 laptop with 2 hard drives. A 128 gb ssd where Windows is install and a 1 tb data drive. The main drive has 4 partitions: 100 mb - System, 16 mb MSR, 118 GB - Windows C: and 450 mb - Windows RE Tools partiton. The data drive is D:.

The SSD is GPT and the data drive is MBR.

I think it may have something to do with it not being able to find winre.wim. Could the problem be with the bcd file winre reference. Could that be why creating the usb fails?

When it fails, the usb has the following folders: boot, efi and sources with files: bootmgr, bootmgr.efi and reagent. Each of the three folders have a few files in them for bcd or for Dell scripts in sources.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Answer:Can't create a Windows 10 recovery usb drive. Some required files are missing

You might run a System file check on your install.  Open an administrative command prompt and type:
sfc /scannow
Report if errors are encountered.
Also in the command prompt type the command below and copy and paste the results.
reagentc /info
Since you appear to have altered your partitions, it does not look you have any OEM info (images, etc.) included.
If you uncheck the box to copy backup files, will the recovery drive complete?  If it does complete, how much the drive space was used.  How large is the USB drive?

When I attempt to create a recovery drive, I receive the message, "We can't create a recovery drive on this PC. Some required files are missing."

I found a suggestion to enter the following at an Administrator command prompt:

reagentc /disable

reagentc /setreimage /path \\?\GLOBALROOT\device\harddiskX\partitionX\Recovery\WindowsRE

reagentc /enable

... where X is the number of the C drive, and the partition number of the system setup. Now for me, it is harddisk0 and partition2 because I have an EFI partition at the start of my system disk. However, when I execute

reagentc /setreimage /path \\?\GLOBALROOT\device\harddisk0\partition2\Recovery\WindowsRE

I receive the message, "REAGENTC.EXE: The Windows RE image cannot be stored in the specified volume. Use the RETAIN command in DISKPART to prepare the volume and try again."
Before I do try using the RETAIN command in DISKPART, is this actually likely to fix my issue or cause me more problems? Is there another easier way to go about creating a recovery drive in the first place?

After experiencing this, I have to say that it is little wonder that very few people have bothered to create a recovery drive for their Windows PC. It can obviously be a lengthy, complex process involving the command prompt, etc.

Thanks for any info.

Answer:Can't create a Windows 10 recovery drive; required files missing...

You can create a Clone Image of your computer and save it to a USB HDD using Macrium Reflect.
