Satellite Pro C660-111 - Error when creating recovery DVDs

Question: Satellite Pro C660-111 - Error when creating recovery DVDs

Hi

I'm trying to create Recovery Disks using Toshiba's Recovery Media Centre for my new Satellite Pro C660-111. However, I've tried three times now and it gets about a third the way through the first of two disks and comes up with the following error:

E:\Boot\bcd missing
(Error Code 020123-F1-00000000)

Help please! What am I doing wrong?

Many thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite Pro C660-111 - Error when creating recovery DVDs

Hello

What kind of blank DVDs you are using for creating Toshiba recovery disk?

Maybe the error is related to the disk? I have used Verbatim DVD-R mediums and had no problems to create the disks.

I cannot create a recovery disc using Toshiba image. DVDs are rejected as blank when they are empty. DVD R/W burns OK with Microsoft and Nero software. How do I get a fix for this problem? TIA garrym

Answer:Re: Satellite C660-10T Problem creating recovery disc

Toshiba recovery disc can be created with preinstalled ?Toshiba recovery media creator tool? ONLY.
So I don?t understand why you use Microsoft and Nero software.

Have you checked User?s manuals document and chapter about recovery media creation?

For recovery DVD creation I recommend you to use DVD-R empty medias only.

I spend some hours to try to create the recovery disks for my Laptop (Satellite C660-1DG)

It fails on the second DVD halfway. It just hangs. CTRL-ALT-DEL does not work anymore a cold boot is required to start the thing again.

I tried several DVD's but NOGO each time halfway the second DVD it hangs.

I really need to create these recovery DVD's because Im going to upgrade the laptop to run a Windows Server 2012 install for development purposes.

I thought this would take just a minimum amount of time but... of course...

Any thoughs on any way to get this stuff working?

Answer:Satellite C660-1DG - Toshiba Media Creator Recovery fails creating 2nd DVD

I burned just another disk and it was full of validation errors: hundreds.

So I connected my external DVD writer (NEC ND-3500AG) (firmware 2.1A) and took THE SAME DVD and burned it: presto: no problems: 0 validation errors

So I deduce that the internal DVD writer (TSSTcorp TS-L633C) (firmware TF20) is chunky.

I am still in warranty but... is it any use?

I have a Toshiba Satellite P 300 and I want to create a recovery DVD.
How many DVDs of 4,7 GB/per, should I prepaire for this creation?

thanks,
in fact, I have a Toshiba P300-22F,
there is a hard disk drive failure, because I have changed the partition siez of C:
I must restore the drive to the factory default state by using the Recovery DVD,
but i didn't create this DVD,

One of my friend has a modele Toshiba P300-1G5,
so I'll try to creer this DVD form his computer.........

Answer:Satellite P300-22F How many DVDs should I prepaire 4 Creating Recovery DVD

Hello

At first I want to give you advice about DVD you should use. For successful recovery DVD creation use DVD-R medias. I have created several recovery medias on different notebook models and with DVD-R media worked always.

On the market there are several Satellite/Satellite Pro P300 notebooks and image is not the same for all of them.
Just for info:
-for Satellite P300-1GL I needed one empty media only but
-for Satellite Pro P300-149 I needed two of them

So I believe you will need one only. When you start "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator" and choose media you want to use it, you will be informed how many of them do you need.

Hi!

I have a laptop from a client, that is a Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-239, and i'm having a strange issue.

The original hard disk failed, and as the laptop is out of warranty, we bought a new hard disk, and ordered the recovery media to this model, from our local toshiba repair assistance.

After the setup copied the files to the disk, the imageX fails when restoring the image files with the error:

"the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable".

The hard disk is new, and i tried also with more 2 hard disks, and also with an external cd-rom drive.

I talked with the support from the local repair assistance, and they told me this occurs because the new hard drive ins't compatible with the recovery media?!

One of the new hard disks i tried, was the exact same model than the original hard disk, and the error still occurs, so the hard disk can't be the problem.

Is there any change of the recovery media is corrupted?

Could also be a motherboard problem?

Thank you

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-239 - Error restoring from recovery media

> Is there any change of the recovery media is corrupted?
Of course this is possible.
In case the HDD is OK, the recovery media could be corrupted.

>Could also be a motherboard problem?
I don?t think so?. I presume the HDD is recognized in BIOS properly and the error message says something about corrupted directory. I guess the disk directory is meaning and I think media should be replaced.

Please can anyone help. I tried using my recovery disks to restore my notebook when it kept failing to start properly. The disks did not work so I purchased a set of disc from Toshiba on this website. I still have the same problem.

Is it the hard drive failing or something else?

If I purchase a new hard drive will the recovery disks work if the hard drive is not exactly the same as the one that came out?

Answer:Satellite C660 - recovery disk fails error 1117

Hi

Did you think about the HDD?
It could be a HDD malfunction that does not allow you to install the system.

I recommend checking the HDD for some possible issues.

There is a nice tool called Drive Fitness Test. You can use it for HDD check.
Google simply to get the software.

I just bought a complete new Satellite C660 and i can't burn any DVDs.

Tried to burn with recovery media creator, Nero, IMGBurn and all fails at around 75 %.
When I tried to burn the Recovery CDs as I was asked they failed due to some BOOT problem...

Answer:Can't burn DVDs on my Satellite C660

Can you create recovery DVD using preinstalled ?Toshiba recovery media creator?. Please test it using DVD-R media.

Have you tested it using different high quality medias like TDK or Verbatim?

Sorry but this boot message says nothing to me. I?ve never saw something like this although I have created several recovery discs on several Toshiba notebooks.

My satellite c 660 suddenly stopped playing dvds and pc game cds. Audio cds are no problem.
But when I try if the driver is ok it says everything works propperly.

Answer:My Satellite C660 has stopped playing DVDs

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what is wrong there but ?theoretically? it can be hardware issue. Lens position for reading DVD is different as for CDs so maybe it cannot be calibrated properly.

Test it with original DVDs or data DVDs to see if the problem persists. If yes, I?m afraid you must exchange optical disc drive.

I am not really providing any solution, but faced similar problem with my Satellite A300-1EI laptop, purchased in Dubai, UAE. I tried to make recovery discs through Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator. However, everytime, I got an error message. I tried with Verbatim, Philips DVD-R and lost several DVDs. Meanwhile on some net surfing, I found out that Toshiba DVD writer is a bit sensitive and try using Verbatim brand DVD-R. I tried with Verbatim 2 days ago and at the last moment when I was about to dance with joy that first DVD is created, received an erro message as below

*"The following issue occured while recording data to the disc.*
*The current process will be stopped.*

*A power calibration area error occurred.*
*Please check if the dics is scratched or dirty.*
*If so, please try again with a new disc.*

*(Error Code: 0E01B5-26-00037304)"*

I really do not understand the message. Can you advise on how to create the recovery discs.

Regards,
Vijay

Answer:Re: Satellite A300 - Error while creating Recovery Disk

Hi

For me it looks like the used DVD disks are not fully supported by ODD.
It seems to be a compatibility issue.

I had such issue in the past but I could solve it using another DVD from another manufacturer.
I made a good experience with TDK DVD-R.
Using the ?R disk I was able to burn the disk but using the +R I received an error.

Hi,

I need to format my Satellite P200 but I am having some difficulty. I have lost the original disc supplied with the laptop. I have tried to use the Recovery Disc Creator but each time I launch it I am greeted with this error:

An unexpected error occured.
Please quit this application and restart it.
(Error Code: 0D00F6-26-00000001)

I have tried reinstalling but just get the same error. What should I try next to either fix the creator or just format a different way?

Answer:Satellite P200 - Error during creating new recovery disk

Hi

Have you tried to use the HDD recovery function to restore the factory settings? Maybe after this you can create the recovery disk successfully.
You can start the HDD recovery feature if you go in advanced boot menu (F8) and select ?Repair my computer?.

Alternative you can restore the factory settings if you install Windows XP from a Microsoft disk and then you download and install all driver and tools from the Toshiba website step by step.

Bought a refurbished T430 from the Lenovo Outlet.  Unfortunately, they're giving me the run around with the warranty (the warranty they have in their system is the pre-refurb warranty, which has expired) - BEWARE THE OUTLET! Anyway, the computer is working fine but, because they aren't honoring the warranty, they want me to pay for the WINDOWS 8 recovery DVDs.  No way!  So, I've gone into the WINDOWS 8 recovery system but the only way to create a true recovery set from the recovery partition is onto a USB drive (no option available for DVDs).  While I'm sure this will work just fine, I'm a dinosaur and would like a set of DVDs just to make my psyche happy! Anyone know how to do this?

Answer:Satellite L850 wrong blank DVDs size and recovery media creator error

Hi

Don?t think that your ODD drive is faulty.
Fact is that there could be always an compatibility issue between the disks and ODD.
As far as I know user manual provides some info about good tested and compatible CDs and DVDs.

Would recommend using a disk which were the compatibility was tested.
Furthermore I recommend TDK ?R standard. My experience was good using such disks?

I have a Satellite L300D-12I laptop & keep getting a 'power calibration error' when trying to create the Toshiba recovery discs. Does anybody have any ideas how to get over this?

Answer:Satellite L300D-12I: Power calibration error whilst creating Recovery Discs

I have seen this problem on my previous laptop.

It can be caused by:

* Bad quality CD/DVD media. Use good quality brands such as TDK.
* Burning too fast, lower the burn speed.
* Worn laser, replace the DVD drive.

I need some help for my sons laptop which is the Satellite Pro C660-1LR.

The hard drive in this laptop completely died, i did not create a recovery disc for this laptops system.
I have purchased a new hard drive which is installed..however as you have guessed i have no access to reinstalling a OS, this laptop runs on windows 7.

I am not really tech savvy so if anyone can advise me please make explain in idiot proof format!! I am trying to avoid having to purchase anything to costly.

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-1LR - New HDD but no recovery disc

> I am trying to avoid having to purchase anything to costly.
Problem is that you don't have many options about that.
If you want to have ?factory settings? again you need recovery installation disc. You can order it on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx Of course it is not for free but, in my opinion, definitely the best solution.

You can buy Microsoft installation disc and install own version. You must buy valid licence for it.
In this case you must install all necessary drivers, tools and utilities additionally one by one.

Just in case that you can get this Microsoft installation and licence for free you can save some money.

Believe me the best solution is original recovery disc order.

Hi there,

I'm hoping someone can help me or knows what to do. I have Satellite C660-15r it was turned off properly but when put back on it came up with start windows normally as if it has been interrupted, I clicked ok to that but instead of loading it has gone to do some sort of recovery only it hasn't been able to complete this and instead has said there is nothing to recover.

It is know stuck at this and will not go any further says to get system admin to log in however its not allowing to log in or do anything apart from shut down and restart, I have been trying to factory reset but it will not work at all I have tried many attempts with 0 and other options i have been told this doesn't work but I can get up f2 and f8 on load up all that works ok but I cannot find any option to be able to factory reset. it gives me options to recover but they take me to the same screen with no improvements and safe mode will not work.

I hope someone can help me I will be so grateful.

Thank you in advance.

Answer:Satellite C660-15r stucks and no recovery possible

At first I must say that recovery option is available if notebook has ?factory settings?. After reading your posting I don?t know if you still use original OS installation that you got with your notebook or maybe OS preinstalled on your own.

I presume you didn't create recovery media (DVD) using preinstalled Toshiba recovery media creator, right?
In your situation usage of recovery disc could be easiest way to fix this and install original recovery image.

Can you please post exact notebook model?

I ordered a set of 2 Toshiba recovery CD's and received them yesterday in order to fix this laptop from a Windows breakdown...

The problem arising at start up is that Windows 7 isn't starting up plus that the hard disk doesn't show in the BIOS (the DVD-drive does) and after the boot sequence the following message comes up: ?Reboot and select proper boot device or insert root media in selected boot device? Someone suggested the drive is broken or the cables to the same detached or lose.

The owner says, that the error first appeared after McAfee offered to "remove 15 errors found on the disk". The laptop has never been opened.

When running the recovery CD 1 the boot sequence starts the recovery but initially shows two pop-ups that indicate that the hard disk cannot be found.

First error message - ERROR: IOCTL_DISK_GET_LENGTH_INFO \\. \PHYSICALDRIVE0 The device is not ready.

Second error message says something like - There is no access to disk #0 or the RAID configuration isn't correct!

After accepting both messages the prompt hands out the error that also appears in this thread...

...and stops at this line...

X:\ windows\ system32 >

...reporting that the recovery failed.

I have fooled around with the advices in this thread...

[http://superuser.com/questions/318322/... Read more

Answer:Recovery CD's do not recover Satellite C660-1WN

(...continued from first post...)

Left to be said is that I also - before I ordered the recovery CDs - ran the second diagnostic DOS tool in the first table to check the disk and got the following report...

- HDD power cable is not properly attached to the HDD

- HDD interface cable is not properly attached to the HDD

- HDD master-slave setting is incorrect

...and equally that no disk could be detected.

My question is now..., what is wrong here? Is it the physical disk that might be the problem? Is it the software? MBR? Can the latter be restored by some command in the prompt? If, then how? Would it be easier to erase the whole disk and then use the recovery CDs? Or won't this work since the recovery CDs can only work with the recovery information on the disk (I assume that this information is only physically on the disk not on the recovery CDs, isn't this correctly understood)?

I am looking forward to any input and help. Thanks in advance.

Apologies if this is the wrong subforum:

Being the idiot I am, I changed my WIndows Login password and since I use very long passwords, I have no idea what I changed it to. Guessing is out of the question.

So I powered on my laptop while holding the 0 key, which brought me to the Windows Boot Manager screen. I pressed F8 on Windows 7 for advanced options and opted for 'Recovery Mode' as I have used this in the past to install the OS from scratch.

It asks me to select a keyboard layout and then enter my username and password to procede with HDD Recovery. It is this lack of password which is the reason for recovery.

Any advice on what I can do?

Thanks

Answer:HDD Recovery Issue on C660 Satellite

On this step you must enter your Windows login name and login password. Without right password you will not be able to start HDD recovery installation.

There is second option to install recovery image. You can do it now using recovery DVD. Have you created it using preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator?

I recently bought a Satellite Pro L850-1UJ with Windows 8
http://www.toshiba.co.uk/laptops/satellite-pro/l850/satellite-pro-l850-1uj/

I've created a new partition (so i could use it as data room)
i.e. C: the windows system AND Z: my data

after that, i could NOT use the RECOVERY MEDIA CREATOR to create the recovery dvds
BUT the partition still exists and i can see the inside files from windows

IS IT a way to extract the files from the recovery partition or any other clue how i could fix the partition scheme so the RECOVERY MEDIA CREATOR could recognize it

Many thanks for your time...

Answer:Satellite Pro L850-1UJ: How create recovery DVDs from recovery partition

After changing HDD partitions structure it happens that ?Toshiba recovery media creator? cannot find recovery files. These files are marked with special markers that in your case cannot be found anymore.

I?m afraid now is too late to do or change anything. You are not the first one with this problem. We always write here that first step should be recovery media creation and later you can do whatever you want. You can even delete it.

Now you can just order new recovery disc at https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

Hi

is there a way to make the recovery disks install win7 x32 instead of x64 (Satellite Pro C660-2JR)

Answer:Recovery disks creation for Satellite Pro C660-2JR

If your notebook was delivered with 64bit version you can create recovery disc for this preinstalled version only. With other words, recovery image saved on recovery partition will be saved on empty DVD disc. Nothing more than that.

If you want to use 32bit OS you must check if your notebook model is supported for it and install own version.

Hello Voger

I have created numerous recovery DVD on several Toshiba notebooks and have never noticed something like this. I have used DVD-R discs only and brands were Verbatim or TDK.

Unfortunately I cannot give you answer what does this message means but you must try to repeat DVD creation. If possible try with TDK.
If the same happen again I recommend you to recovery your notebook using HDD recovery option and try to create recovery discs again.

Sorry but I don?t see any other possibility at the moment.

Yes. After recovery image installation notebook will have original ?factory settings? as on first start after purchase.

Hi

Purchasing an Toshiba notebook with an preinstalled Windows 7 system, you have reached automatically one Win 7 license.
So you can use this Win 7 on one notebook.

Hi
I have tried to restore a Satellite C660 to factory settings due to it be extremely slow to start up.

Using the Toshiba original recovery discs the process gets partway through and then gives the following messages...

Error restoring image
The device is not ready

ERROR: ImageX could not apply Win7 V:\HDDRecovery\SWImg\15489XSP.swm Index 2 from HDD to C:!

Can anybody advise?!
Thanks

Answer:Cannot install recovery image on Satellite C660

Unfortunately there is no some ?workaround? to force recovery image installation to run properly.
All you can do at the moment is to set BIOS to default settings and try to use recovery disc again.
Be sure disc is clean.

Do you use recovery discs for the first time?

Hello,

A month ago I purchased a Toshiba C660-1FE. After three weeks my HD broke down. I bought a new HD from Western Digital and replaced the broken HD. As I did not make an recovery image of my HD, I had to order the Product recovery discs off the Toshiba website (3 discs, of which disc 1 and 3 were the only one's required for installation).

Now, I have the problem that my laptop keyboard does not work. I am currently using a USB keyboard and mouse to replace my keyboard and touchpad of the laptop.

The laptop keyboard works fine in BIOS. Therefore, I hope it's just a driver problem.

I have:

tried finding and installing lots of drivers on from the toshiba website, no result.
tried changing settings in the bios (usb enable/disable).
tried to fix the problem by re-installing the entire computer again several times.

The keyboard seems to work until windows loads. When the system is starting up I can press caps lock and num lock and the green lights come on. This all stops working once the windows startup symbol appears.

Perhaps a second problem in the device manager: under the display-adapter, 2 subcategories have exclamation marks: it says Mobile Intel(R) 4 series express chipset family twice! I can't seems to fix these with any drivers I can find either. When I check the settings I have this message (google translate since it was in dutch):

Answer:After Recovery with CD Satellite C660-1FE keyboard does NOT work

Hi

Keyboard works in BIOS? this means that the keyboard hardware should be ok and the connection between the motherboard and keyboard is established.

So what could be wrong? Keyboard driver?
Hmm? the keyboard driver is a part of the Windows OS and is installed automatically while OS installation?
I would recommend following:
Go to device manager and extract the point Keyboard.
There you should see something like ?standard PS/2 keyboard?
If you will see a red cross near this device, then this means that the keyboard is disabled.
Usually you should be able to enable this again (in device manager).
If there is no red cross, then I recommend deleting this keyboard from the device manager list?then reboot the notebook. Usually the OS should recognize the removed device automatically and should install the driver too.

Check this.

By the way: it could be possible that you have received a wrong Recovery disk? this could explain the issues after the recover procedure?

Hi folks,

Posting this question for my neighbour as he now has no internet access as laptop not working - Satellite C660 running Win7.

When powering up he gets the Toshiba screen then a blank screen with cursor at the top left flashing.

Tried to boot from Win7 DVD (Pressed F12 to get to boot options & changed to DVD), can hear the drive trying to access the dvd but then get the message 'failed'. Win7 DVD works in both my laptop and desktop pc's.

Any ideas.

Thank you

Nigel

Answer:Satellite C660 Won't boot from HDD or recovery disks

> When powering up he gets the Toshiba screen then a blank screen with cursor at the top left flashing.

Possibly the HDD is dead.
You ca try to power up the unit and press F2
Now you should be able to access the BIOS.

If the HDD isn?t listed on the first BIOS page, then this means that HDD isn?t recognized by BIOS and this means that HDD is faulty.

Hello,

on the laptop TOSHIBA C660, replaced the hard drive and, as a fact, the OS flew down (Windows 7 SP1 HB x 64).
Installed not licensed, there was no way out, on the Microsoft website, to download the image, the key from the laptop is not suitable.

Not a licensed image, there was no desire to put, the assembly is an assembly, naturally installed such an operating system behaved badly, buggy.

Done, and now the laptop does not work.
In the service center installation of OS and drivers costs 3500 rbl.

Offensively. So I'm looking for help on the forum.

Please, kindly request help. Thank you.

Hello all,

I have a Toshiba Satellite C660. I am trying to restore the laptop to the initial condition by the simple HDD Recovery. I have lost my old recovery disks. After completing first few initial steps, it goes to 'finishing installation' page and then gives an error message. After clicking to the dialog box 'ok' it resumes as 'Finishing installation' again. And now it has been almost 2 hours. It is still there. No improvement. What should I do ?

If I turn off the computer will my windows be completely destroyed?

I have a brand-new Satellite Pro C660. It worked fine for a day, now it won't load windows. I didn't get around to creating the recovery disks as I've only had it a few hours (yes, yes, I know, should have been the first thing I did). All the data is present (but backed up to USB just in case) and I can see the HDDREcovery folder with all data intact. However, I can't run the app to create recovery disks. Does anyone know how to extract the images and create the media using only the command prompt? (I can get into command prompt by booting from a friend's Win 7 disk). All boot options from the laptop's own drives fail. It says "Windows Failed to Load", and I try Startup Repair but it doesn't find any errors. Any help/thoughts on this will be much appreciated!

Answer:Re: Satellite Pro C660 - How to make recovery disk with command prompt?

Hey,

It?s not possible to create recovery disk with command prompt. You have to use the Toshiba recovery media creator on Windows.

Now it?s too late for you but you can order such a disk here:

Strange problem. My Satellite C660D-1FM was doing a bunch of updates from Microsoft (hadn't done any updates for ages as it was used by my daughter and not connected to the internet) and after they had completed it rebooted and I got the Toshiba splash screen and then nothing. Holding F8 gives the same problem, tried holding the '0' key while powering on and that was the same. Connected an external monitor and it's the same. I can get into the BIOS and everything looks fine.

So, thinking the hard drive might be faulty I fitted another hard drive and fully installed Win7 from a Microsoft DVD (SP1 and all updates) and everything works. I then thought I'd try and restore the laptop to default factory settings using the Toshiba recovery DVD's which Id created. All worked fine during the install, all 3 DVD's installed and it went through the setup procedure, laptop got to the end when it wanted to reboot, rebooted and now back to the same error - Toshiba splash screen is ok but then it just goes blank. To convince myself I wasn't going mad I then re-installed Win7 from my Microsoft DVD and it installs fine, does all updates and has worked all day today with no issue.

Anyone any idea what's going on?

Answer:Satellite C660 - blank screen after recovery image instalation

Hmmm... something like this should not happen.
Do you use recovery discs for the first time?
Have you noticed the same result on both HDDs?

Problem is that there is no much to do about that and there is no way to change anything while recovery installation runs or later when windows setup is in progress.

Try to set BIOS to default settings and simply try to install recovery image again.

So is the data on D safe if I use recovery?

thanks

Answer:Re: Satellite C660/C660D will using recovery erase data on D partition?

Hi

From my knowledge using Recovery Disk would format the whole HDD and all partitions would be created again during this process.
This means that your data on D partition is not safe.

But from my experience the usage of HDD recover would format only the system (C) partition? not quite sure if this applies to all the Toshiba notebooks so possibly you should test this first time? in such case would recommend backup the data in case D partition would be erased.

Hi,

My mum has just brought a Toshiba laptop and it's pretty decent to be fair. Taking a quick look at it though i noticed the recovery partition (that comes with most laptops now) is labelled "D:/Data and is 232GB in size. Seems a bit on the large side for me and wondering if it is incorrect?

Have got a screenshot and if someone could confirm either way i'd be most grateful. Can i attach screenshots?

Hi all

Just a query
My GF turned on her laptop Satellite C660 series and it would not boot up, we tried to initiate the recovery sequence from the recovery partition but kept getting the error that was on boot up (the error was telling us a USB device had been unplugged).

As you probably guessed she never made the back-up discs when prompted, all I could think of was using a win 7 disc and reload that way then try and make the recovery discs after (I didn't activate)
so win 7 was installed nicely and all drivers sourced that was all last week.
Now for the crunch , the recovery partition is there can I now make the recovery discs and install from those , the win 7 I installed will soon require activation
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite C660 - recovery partition is there but can I make back up discs?

After own OS installation you cannot create recovery disc anymore and you can not install recovery image using HDD recovery option (F8 at start-up).

Best thing you can do now is to order original disc from Toshiba and use it for recovery image installation. It is definitely easiest way to have ?factory settings? again.
You can order it on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

Basically i have a Lenovo ThinkPad L530 laptop.

I've created the recovery DVDs, but unbeknown to me at the time - you're only allowed to create one set. What i'd like is to put this onto a USB stick.

Currently i have:

DVD #1 - Boot Media: (312mb)

The boot DVD containing "BOOT" folder, BootMgr file which is quite small & Winre.Wim at about 300mb.

DVD #2 - Data DVD #1: (4.03GB)

factory recovery folder, recovery folder & Autorun file

DVD #3 - Data DVD #2: (3.87GB)

factory recovery folder & recovery folder (NO autorun file)

DVD #4 - Data DVD #3: (3.04GB)

factory recovery folder, recovery folder, LenovoQDrive file, qdrive icon file.
My USB stick is 16GB capacity.

So basically i'd like to make the USB stick the recovery media. I can't do this from the laptop as Lenovo only let you create one ......... so how can i do this? Can i do this would be the first question & if so - how?

Answer:Creating Lenovo Laptop Recovery media from DVDs. Laptop wont let me do

Hi Nelly I also have an Lenovo its a different model than yous is but I can make as many copies of the recovery discs
as I want . You could make a systems image which would be a lot better than the recovery discs as with them you will always have the bloated software that comes with Lenovo models saying that you would need a lot more space than your 16gb usb drive .

Answer:Cannot use recovery DVDs with my Satellite Pro A300D

Hello buddy

It is very bad situating now. Please try to do it one more time.
If the same happen there is nothing you can do. I am not an expert for this stuff but I have noticed that whole recovery image from recovery DVD will be copied to HDD (second partition) at first and later the recovery installation will starts from there.

If the coping procedure is not done to the end recovery procedure cannot be started.
Sorry buddy. In my opinion you can try to contact nearest authorized service provider and explain the situation. Take created DVDs as evidence and maybe they will order new media for free.

Good luck!

Hi.

I have a Satellite U940-12C netbook, a software fault cause a format of the HDD and the SSD. Finally i got the Recovery DVDs free from Toshiba (as it was not my fault, but a software one), two recovery DVDs.

And that's all I have: a clean Satellite, without recovery partition or any data in HDD or SSD; and the two recovery DVDs. Since my laptop has not a DVD drive, and I have not an external one, my question is simple: how can I make a booting recovery USB pendrive using the data stored in the recovery DVDs??

If anyone can help... Thanks!

In my opinion this isn?t possible.
You cannot move simply the data from the 2 DVD disks to the USB pen drive. I think this will not work.

In your case you will need to use an external USB CD/DVD drive in order to recover the notebook using the both disks.

Hi there,

Trying to update one of my employees laptops with bios 1.50 (C660) and it is displaying an error message displaying 3 possible causes. Ac adapter not plugged in (it is) battery is less than 10% (it isnt) and BIOS is more up to date than version 1.50. When I tried the update the laptop was currently running 1.00. Hello There,

I recently purchased a Satellite C660/C660D everything is fine, apart from one or two minor issues (which this thread is about). Firstly, The laptop was and still is littered with loads of TOSHIBA random software, below is a list:

+TOSHIBA Assist+
+TOSHIBA Bulletin Board+
+TOSHIBA ConfigFree+
+TOSHIBA Disc Creator+
+TOSHIBA Face Recognition+
+TOSHIBA Flash Cards Support Utility+
+TOSHIBA Hardware Setup+
+TOSHIBA HDD/SSD Alert+
+TOSHIBA Media Controller+
+TOSHIBA Media Controller Plug-in+
+TOSHIBA Online Product Information+
+TOSHIBA Recovery Media Creator+
+TOSHIBA Recovery Media Creator Reminder+
+TOSHIBA ReelTime+
+TOSHIBA Service Station+
+TOSHIBA Supervisor Password+
+Toshiba TEMPRO+
+TOSHIBA Value Added Package+
+TOSHIBA Web Camera Application+

Is there a pre made ISO recovery image somewhere or do I have to make my own, because if I decide to unisntall some of these programs I might need it at a later date?

The second issue is with the TOSHIBA Accessiblity application which shows the FN keys, it does not seem to start. It worked the first day then I disabled all TOSHIBA applications from startup and I get the following error: "Registry is missing or may be broken.", I dont know why!

I have tried cleaning the registry, so the registry isnt broken.

*Thanks in Advance*

Answer:Satellite C660 - TOSHIBA Accessibility Error

Hi Humza,

I?m happy to hear that you?re an owner of Toshiba notebook too and you discovered the forum here. We can discuss everything about Toshiba notebooks, that?s interesting :)

I will try to help you to sort this out:

1.Yes, there is a premade recovery image to restore factory settings with all driver and tools on your notebook but important is you burn this image on a blank DVD using preinstalled recovery media creator. You will get a disk with an image of Windows with all drivers and tools => ?out of box settings?. So the same settings as you purchased the computer.

2.I think the FN keys don?t work anymore because you disabled some important Toshiba tools they are necessary for FN keys. For FN keys the startup items ?TOSHIBA Button Support? and ?TOSHIBA Flash Cards? are absolutely necessary so you should enable them and restart the computer.

My Satellite C660 CD/DVD ROM drive is not reading CDs. When checking my Device Manager, there is a problem identified:
"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)".

How do I go about repairing this fault?

Answer:Re: Satellite C660 - CD/DVD drive error code 19

Hey,

This is a known issue and there are already many threads here in forum about error code 19 in device manager. Toshiba has already released an FAQ regarding this article:
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/FAQ82023A0000R01.htm

To get rid of this you have to delete the upper- and lowerfilters in Windows registry:

1.Start > Run > Regedit
2.Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
3.In the right pane, delete the "UpperFilters" key, and delete the "LowerFilters" key.
4.Reboot.

Hello,
I have a Toshiba A300D. Recently I installed the BETA version of Windows 7, wiping my Windows Vista installation off my Laptop, now I do not want Windows 7 anymore, and would like to return to Vista. I still have the recovery partition in drive D, but I don't know how to either: Create a recovery disc from this, or restore using this straight from the boot. I have tried pressing F11 at the Toshiba flash screen on boot, and that just goes onto a screen which says "Windows failed to start..." etc, I have also tried going into the Multiboot menu and selecting HDD2, and that doesn't work either.

So, can someone tell me how I can restore back to Windows Vista, I'm not bothered about losing any of the data as I have it alll backed up onto an external hard drive.
Or, can I get the Toshiva Recovery Disc Creator software anywhere?

Answer:Satellite A300D - Creating a recovery disc

Hi

That's bad buddy... usually it's not possible to restore the notebook to the factory settings (to Toshiba image) if you have removed the Vista from the HDD and didn't create the recovery disk...

The recovery disk is THIS essential disk and should be created ALWAYS at the beginning!

But maybe you are a lucky guy...
I have found this thread with a nice tutorial posted by forum user.
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=164927&

I didn't test it and I don't know if it will function but I think this is you last option... otherwise you will need to order the recovery disk from Toshiba.

Usually creating the recovery medium takes less than one hour.

I don?t know what?s going wrong on your notebook but it could be related to low quality mediums that you use. I have good experience with DVD-R mediums (NOT DVD+R) from Verbatim and TDK. This always works very well and I would recommend such high quality mediums.

As far as I know Satellite T110 offers also an option to create recovery files on USB stick. Have you already tried this?

I have just created my two recovery DVDs for my new computer and I want to know if I still need my 113GB partition on my computer?

Answer:Re: Satellite A300-27H? Do I need HDD Recovery partition after creating DVD

Hmm?.
The Recovery disk would set the notebook back to factory settings? this means that the Recovery disk would format the whole HDD and would create the same partitions like at the first day of purchase? it should create also the HDD recovery partition too?

Therefore in my opinion you could delete it if you don?t want to have such partition on your HDD?

Cheers

I have no prior experience with making a recovery CD and I hear ya only get one shot to do it, and so have to be careful not to screw up. Hence.. I am posting here so I can get some clear instructions on how to achieve this. I am not going to rush into it like a bull in a china shop because that's usually when i make mistakes.
Would love someone to guide me thru doing this step by simple step if that is not too demanding to ask. I would very much appreciate it.

All I know is I have the Toshiba recovery disk creator in Program Files...I will install ImgBurn if that's OK to use, but would love some guidance helping me thru this so I dont mess up.

tmany kind thanks,
Kes

Answer:Creating recovery CD for a Satellite A300-1J1 Laptop

Hello Kes

Toshiba takes care of you and made simply way to do this. ;)

You must not install anything. Just start Toshiba recovery creator tool and put high quality empty DVD-R media and follow the menu on the screen. That?s all.
I recommend you to use TDK or Verbatim medias. I have tested both of them and they work for sure.

Hi,

Can someone please help,

I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite C660/C660D for my nephew, We have forgotten the administrator password and we don't have password reset disk is there anyway around this.

Thanks

Answer:I forgot my administrator password on Satellite C660/C660

Hi

I assume you are talking about windows system password and not about BIOS password. Right?
It?s not very big problem if you forgotten the System password but if you mean BIOS password then you are in trouble because the BIOS password can be deleted just by an Toshiba ASP technicians?

So I assume you mean Windows password? so start the notebook and press F8
Now you can choose Repair my Computer and then choose HDD recovery.
This would start a HDD recovery procedure which would reinstall the system? during the setup you can set anther admin password.

Of course there are some other methods but as far as I know this requires 3rd party software/tools or Win 7 DVD? so I think the HDD recovery is the fastest solution.

Hi,   I'm trying to burn a recovery disk using OKR and a plextor external DVD+R drive, but I'm getting the following error message when I start the burn... 0xE0DD001F    : An internal program error has occured.  What does that mean, and what should I do?

Answer:Error when creating recovery disk in one key recovery

Same happened to me.  This makes absolutely no sense, but I just kept trying and trying then it finally worked.  For me, it hasn't been worth the bother.  These restore DVDs don't work like the ones I made for an Acer laptop, for example.  On my Acer, I repartitioned, reformatted my drive and was easily able to restore my computer before I sold it.  I've been going nuts trying to restore my computer after a clean install of Windows 7.  Still can't get it to work.

Answer:Disk error and black screen on Satellite c660-21z

Hi

It looks like an problem with HDD.
Please check if the HDD is recognized in BIOS. Power up the unit and press F2.
Usually this should help to access the BIOS.
At the first BIOS page the HDD should be mentioned? is it?
If not then this means that HDD is dead and needs to be replaced?

By the way: you did not post the notebook model? but if it?s 3 weeks old, then you have to get in contact with an Toshiba service if the HDD would be faulty? you should get a new one free of charge because the warranty should be valid.

Answer:Satellite C660 & Win XP Toshiba Power saver error 0x2

Can you please post exact notebook model? I just want to check if your notebook is full supported for WXP.
Anyway, before you start to install any Toshiba specific tool or utility you must install common modules at first.

Please test it.

From my experience it is not easy to fix now so it is also possible that you must reinstall WXP and install all drivers, tools and utilities in right install order.

Hello all, i am in need of help here.

I have a Satellite C660-26G, 2 days old and a USB memory stick has been removed from the laptop while it was working, and I believe caused some sort of corruption.

The machine starts, passes the logo, and the windows loading bar in white comes along bottom of the screen. It freezes about 1/3rd of the way along, and then throws up an error screen stating the following:

"Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer. This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while the drive is in use .... and so on ...."

It states to plug it back in and restart the machine.

I have tried this and always the same, i have even plugged it into both ports available, and to no avail, the same problem exists.

Now searching the forum I thought nothing more of restoring to the factory settings as there were no physical discs supplied with the new machine.

Using the reboot and F8 method results in no action and same error in the end.

Bottom of the error screen states;

Status: 0xc00000e9
Info: An unexpected I/O error has occurred.

Please help ???

Answer:Satellite C660-26G - unexpected error after removing USB stick

Hi

Whether this issue has any relation to the incident with you USB stick or not (I don't think so since modern OS'es simply aren't so unstable) it still seems your unit is in need of professional attention.
This is not something that is possible to fix without further hardware diagnosis.

I would suggest to call your local support or talk to your dealer about how to get your unit to service.

I tried to upgrade to Windows 10 from window 7 on my Satellite C660 series. After the download I got the above error and the laptop is not starting neither in windows 7 or 10. I have the back-up discs that I made a few months back, apart from the disc that came with the laptop. There is a way to use the discs in order to recover it?

I've only had my laptop (Satellite C660-23M) for three months, I started having problems with it about a week ago, including a Blue Screen of Death moment but I got the computer into Safe Mode and did a system restore and it has been fine since then. Then earlier today I got a Windows Hard Drive error, telling me to back-up and then repair or replace the Hard Drive. The back-up is going onto an external hard drive as we speak, so fingers crosssed I won't stand to lose all my data.

I did create a back-up media disc when I first got the laptop but everytime I tried it with validation on, it would fail but at the time, I didn't think I would need it so soon, so just created an un-validated copy and thought it'd be fine (I'm now concerned!).

Do I need to restore my hard drive? If so, how? What caused this? And considering it's only 3 months old, am I stuck with a duff laptop that will continue to break on me??

Answer:Satellite C660-23M Windows 7 Hard Drive Error

Hi

In your case I would recommend checking the HDD fitness.
This can be done using the freeware tool called HDD Drive Fitness Utility.
I assume that this software can help to detect some HDD errors.

If the HDD would be affected then you would need to replace the HDD.
Here you can find a nice instruction how to do that:
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=138

the notebook seems to be covered by warranty so the HDD can be replaced under warrant conditions means this can be done free of charge?
I would recommend asking the ASP (service partner in your country) for such HDD? they could send you such HDD.

Have you installed all drivers for your notebook? Missing driver like chipset or something else could cause this error.

Also install Value Added Package as Administrator. An user account with without administrator rights will not help you. Last but not least unzip all files before you start the installation.

Hi,

I have a problem creating recovery disks for the Satellite L500-126.

I am using the Toshiba recovery disk creator.

The 1st disk is ok.
When I try to make the 2nd disk, the systems stops exactly at 50% of the 2nd disk. and no more reaction from the disk creator.

I tried 2x, and each time i had to abort and throw away the dvd's.

any suggestions?

Hello.

I just bought a L550-10N and first thing I tried to do is to create recovery discs using Toshiba recovery disc creator.

Everything went well on the first disc creation (4 have to be created).
The problem starts with second disc: approximately when it is half burned, the gauge stops, the DVD drive continues running for hours and never stops.

I tried the process a second time, but it was exactly the same.

Would anyone have an idea how to solve this?

Thanks!

Hi

I noticed similar issue creating my recovery disk and this has been related to none fully compatible disks?
I checked different disk from different manufacturers and finally I have managed to create the recovery disk using the TDK ?R disk?
Seems that there are different disk which are not supported but this seems to be different and it?s matter of the CD/DVD drive?

Anyway, I recommend testing some different DVDs

My new Satellite L500 - 19X came pre-installed with Win 7 - 64 bit version.
Also included was a "Product Recovery Win 7 32 bit" disc

Within the packaging was a leaflet saying:

"If you plan to use the 64-bit version at a later stage, please create a _recovery medium_ prior to installing 32-bit Windows 7"

It then cautions me to create a "64 bit recovery medium.....ordering a 64-bit recovery medium is not free of charge"

The manual goes on at length about "_System Recovery Options_" As instructed in the manual I have made a "Repair Disc Windows 7 64-bit" Am I correct in saying that I do not or cannot have an actual Win 7 64-bit disc?

The leaflet says "a backup copy (of the Win 7 64-bit) is stored on the hard disk drive as a _recovery image_" So is this the actual Win 7-64-bit complete disc that I am after, and if so how do I get it?

The Toshiba documentation is not clear, and I believe rather contradicts itself?

I am confused! Anyone understand what's going on?

Answer:Creating Win 7 64bit Recovery Disc for Satellite L500-19x?

Hi

As I understand you have received the Notebook with preinstalled Win 7 64bit OS.
But you didn?t get the Win 7 64bit recovery disk but you have a Win 7 32bit recovery disk. Is it right?

Well mate? the case is that the usage of the Recovery disk will format the full HDD and will erase everything from HDD. This means that you will lose the preinstalled Win 7 64bit OS.
So if you would not create the Win 7 64bit recovery disk BEFORE using the Win 7 32bit recovery disk then you will not be able to go back to 64bit version.

Therefore create the Win 7 64bit recovery disk at the beginning. Then you are safe and can install Win 32bit and 64bit whenever you want.

Hello.

I have Toshiba Satellite A300D-11T (extended A300D-11S) and I would like to create Recovery Disk. Problem is I cannot run Toshiba Recovery Disk Creation Tool. There is no shortcut in Start menu.
I tried to run it from Program Files.

Program itself exist (or at least I think it does), there are files in Program Files folder, also in "Programs and Features" the program exists so I could remove it.
I simply click on TosRDC.exe file (or any other *.exe file in this folder) and it does not start.

For the record - recovery partition does exist and has not been changed.

System - Vista Home Premium 32bit.
What to do?

Answer:Satellite A300D - creating recovery disc problem

Hi there,

I would suggest to recover the machine from HDD and then, immediately after recovering the machine, you should try to create a recovery disk. It could be that in the mean time something destroyed some software piece in your operating system which could be the reason for this issue.

Maybe not a very elegant solution but the only one which works everytime.

I was just wondering about this.
Could i make ISO images of my recovery disks, i know i could just make some more copies, but i am learning how to create ISO images.
But i was a bit worried what would happen when i put a disk in the drive.....

Answer:Re: Satellite L300-1BV - creating ISO images of your recovery disks

This with recovery image is a little bit complicated and something like this is not possible.
All you can do is to create recovery DVD using Toshiba recovery disc creator or start recovery from HDD directly using Toshiba recovery option (F8).

You can do with this what you want but how you want to start installation later?
Sorry but I think it will not work.

Hi,
I bought Satellite A500 yesterday and now I am trying to create the recovery disks before anything else.
However, towards the end of the 1st DVD, I get an error message saying "Faile dto open the following file. e:\boot\bcd (Error code 0201123-F1-00000000)" and then when I click 'OK', the DVD is ejected giving a message 'failed to create recovery media 1'. Upon physical examining I have noted the DVD is written to almost full.

Any advise on this? Also, in the interface, it does show a USB option and says to insert a USB media with more than 7GB free. Can I use this to create the recovery disk? If so, when I reinstall windows 7, can this be used as a bootable disk?

Would greately appreciate any help on this issue. If it is malfunctioning, I want to return it ASAP.

Thanks,
Thilan.

Answer:Satellite A500 - problems with creating the recovery disks

As far as I know you cannot use external device for recovering so it is very important to create recovery DVDs.

Try to create recovery disc using DVD-R media only. Use high quality medias like TDK or Verbatim.
Last month I created recovery discs on Satellite A500-157 and everything went well.

Hello,

Having recently set up a new Satellite C660-1ZM running Windows 7 64bit (upgraded from Home Premium to Ultimate) for a friend, the mousepad and USB ports have suddenly stopped working. The drivers show an exclamation mark against them and the error is "code 52" which is related to driver signing. Windows doesn't seem to recognise the driver signatures for the published drivers that came on the machine's pre-installed disc, so the devices don't work. I've updated the drivers (Intel chipset [which includes USB]; Synaptics touchpad) to the latest ones publised on the Toshiba web site - and we have the same problem.

Pressing F8 on boot allows you to select "disable checking of driver signing" in the WIndows 7 boot options, which then enables the drivers and all is well, until you reboot - at which point you have to hit F8 again.

I think that one of the many recent Windows updates has somehow messed things up, but we can't easily prove that. The machine worked fine for a week or so, then the mousepad suddenly quit working around 8th August 2012.

1) Are there valid signed drivers that pass whatever checks Microsoft impose on driver signing, including whatever checks they've potentially just imposed via some recently inflicted update?

2) Does anyone know exactly how to disable the checking of driver signing permanently, so that a reboot will not require the F8 keypress and so on?

Uninstalling the mousepad driver and rebooting gives the ba... Read more

Answer:Satellite C660-1ZM Win 7 64bit: mousepad and USB - "code 52" driver error

Hi

Did you receive the error that windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device? Usually this means the error code 52
Since the USB drivers are parts of the Windows OS, I don?t think that this could be an signature issue? I think some files are damaged.

Try to uninstalling/reinstalling the driver and deleting the device and it?s drivers from device manager before reinstalling.
Usually this should help, if not, well try to repair the system.

Power up the unit and press F8. Then choose Repair my Computer.
Now choose the first option which would help to repair the system.

Hello!

I have a Toshiba Satellite L300-139 (Vista, 160GG, 2GB memory).

Hard disk has been damaged (when booting Vista, systems does not start at all, and every time only a blank screen with the mouse arrow is shown --> tried all choices + PE boot etc. but there is no access to the Recovery Console) and there is no possibility to run CHKDSK to fix this problem.

No recovery disks were created when the computer was new.

I removed the laptop hard disk and plugged it in to my desktop computer, but 2 partitions out of 3 were damaged and I managed to recover some data including:

c:\program files\TOSHIBA
d:\HDDRecovery

Recovery of the data was done by using www.sysresccd.org and external USB hard disk.

I copied all the data to the USB disk and started the TRORDCLauncher program (run as Administrator). All it does it removes my DVD-drive from vista and then fails with error (rough translation):
"Other process is using the drive or there is no drives available. Check the drive status. [OK]"

It seems that Recovery Images have been created with Windows PE Tools 2.0 (Imagex), but as the data is spreaded around the folders I have not been able to create the recovery disks manually.

Any Ideas and knowledge how to create the recovery disks with this data what I have or do I have to order the DVD's and wait for couple of weeks before getting the system up again?

Thanks!

Answer:Creating Recovery disks without the possibility to boot -Satellite L300

Sorry but there is no chance you can create recovery DVD. Recovery DVD can be created if you use ?Toshiba Recovery creator? tool only and unfortunately there is no way to get it.

HDD recovery procedure using F8 can work only if the HDD configuration is not changed (new OS installed), the HDD recovery folder must be placed on second partition.
So with short words, you can do this just if the notebook has ?factory settings?. Now you cannot do anything but order new original recovery DVD for this notebook model.

If you want to do this you can order it under https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

Hi

I've just bought two new Satellites an L655-1EM and a L655-17V (I think - the pink one and the red one). Anyhow I've been trying to burn some recovery media - which I find a bit cheapo, making us do it ourselves!

During the process it tells me there is a missing file and crashes out. I tried this on both machines and the same result. I'm using dual layer discs. Any ideas? Do Toshiba shell out a recovery disc under such circumstances - I've already got three DL frisbees lol.
I'm more than a little concerned as if something bad happens I've no confidence that I'll be able to recover.

Any advise/tips ?
Thanks in advance :)
