Satellite A200-1KB Failure to start

Question: Satellite A200-1KB Failure to start

I have a Satellite A200-1KB (several years old). Suddenly, from one day to the next, it refuses to power up. There are 5 blue lights at the front bottom, of which the power lights shows on, the start light shows on, the battery light showson, the next lightight flickers and then dies, and the last for internet access, of course, does not light. Moreover, on the right of the machine, there is a yellow/orange light at the DVD port showing on, when I press the start button, but the port does not open, so I do not know if there is a disc inside.

Can anyone help?

Many thanks in advance.

Preferred Solution: Satellite A200-1KB Failure to start

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite A200-1KB Failure to start

And what now?
I don?t understand what kind of help do you expect now.

Can you see anything on the screen after switching notebook on or not?
If you want to see if there is disc inside you can open optical disc drive manually. Normally there is a tiny hole underneath the disc tray. You can insert a paperclip or something similar into this hole and manually open the disc tray.

I have now a few month that some keys doesn't work.
Ok I don't matter than because that were subkeys, but now my m and d are getting troubles.
Reinstalling is not working, how can i or you fix this?

Answer:Satellite A200-1P8 - keyboard failure

> Reinstalling is not working, how can I or you fix this?
I think you can fix this only by keyboard replacement!

Get in contact with a local ASP and ask for keyboard check?
Usually a keyboard replacement is not tricky but if you have no experience and if you are not notebook literate then you should ask an technician for assistance.

My Satellite A200 is just over one year and the battery has stopped charging.

Whilst looking over laptop have seen fan not working either, although no effect on performance when plugged in at home.

Are two probs related can fan only be hardware failure?

And is it connected to batt failure?

Answer:Satellite A200 - battery and fan failure

For me it is not easy to say that both issues are somehow related. You can check fan functionality if the notebook runs on AC power supply only. Remove the battery and check it out.

Try also to change power profile and cooling method to see if there is any influence on fan functionality.
What to say about battery? If the battery has stopped charging it can be because of battery itself or maybe power supply electronic on mainboard but if you want to have exact answer to this the notebook must be checked by authorized service provider?

Is the warranty still valid?

I have a Toshiba A200-1GB with Windows 7 x86.
I tried every ATI drivers from toshiba website, new and older, and the screen becomes weird, ATIKMDAG fails and recovers until BSOD comes up, then when I restart the laptop screen keeps black,

I can only see the screen by connecting external monitor, however the same glitches appear on that monitor, so I believe that it's not a screen problem.

I'm running windows 7 now with built-in drivers only (from windows update), and I played a game for 1 hour with no problems, if I install catalyst with latest drivers it keeps doing the same, so basically I would like to know if this is a hardware problem or software problem. The GPU temperature does not pass from 47?C.

Please check the 2 videos that I recorded with fraps on dropbox. When the video becomes whole black, that's when the ATIKMDAG failed and got recovered.

Videos link:

Answer:Satellite A200-1GB: ATI HD2600 glitches and GPU failure

>I can only see the screen by connecting external monitor, however the same glitches appear on that monitor, so I believe that it's not a screen problem.

In my opinion the internal graphic card starts to malfunction.
Its definitely not a internal display problem.

What you could do is to recover the notebook using the Toshiba recovery disk and could test the notebook using the factory settings (Toshiba default image which was installed at first day of purchase) and to test if the same glitches would be visible.
I assume they will do?

Since purchasing an A200 last year the laptop has burnt out three Toshiba supplied power adaptors, it has been returned to Toshiba for repair but they insist that the fault was with the adaptors. It has been six weeks since the 'repair' now this one has blown as well. I have contacted Toshiba who to be frank could not have cared less offering only another collection for repair or another power supply (that would probably last a few more weeks).
I have tried to be reasonable with them as it is obvious even to me that the laptop has some fault which they are unable to diagnose but they refuse to replace the unit or in deed take any responsibility what so ever for the problem it has had since just after purchase.

I cannot afford to keep sending it back for repair or waiting for new adaptors to arrive as this is primarily my sons laptop and he is a special needs student tutored at home, he only has 6 hours a week tutoring and as his writing skills are inhibited the laptop is essential if he is to keep up.

My questions are:

1 Has anyone else experienced this problem
2 Has anyone else had a similar experience with customer service
3 Any opinions on whether I should cut my losses and buy him something more reliable in view of the situation.

Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite A200 - Power supply failure

1) I've got a notebook which is 8 years old (non Toshiba one). The AC adaptor died after about 4 month of usage.
I got a new one (for free) and since then it's working like a dream.

2) I had contacted a ASP sometime ago because my keyboard did work.
They have replaced it very fast.... I was happy with that.

3) Fact is that the notebook cannot break the AC adaptor. Something like that is not possible (physically).
The AC adaptor can die due to different reasons i.e: bad voltage, high temperature, internal fault, etc...

I think you should simply contact the ASP and should take the new AC adaptor.

My daughter has a Satellite Pro A200 which seems to be dead, she must be trying to get a new one!!

When I try booting from the HDD Recovery repair windows I get the message "The installed program cannot start. Click OK to turn off the computer."

I have also tried booting from the CD/DVD drive with the Recovery disc and repair computer, at which point I get - a black screen with mouse cursor eventually leading to the same message as with the HDD Recovery approach

Given both fail is this likely to be HDD failure (I had a similar issue with my wifes Dell on boot up which was HDD failure)?

Answer:Dead Satellite Pro A200 - Recovery Failure

Obviously something is wrong with preinstalled operating system and what you must do is to install operating system using Toshiba recovery image.

At first enter BIOS settings and be sure HDD is recognized properly.
Set BIOS to default settings and start recovery image installation:
Switch notebook ON and press F12 several times
When boot menu is shown put recovery disc in optical disc drive
Press ENTER and follow the menu on the screen.

If you will not be able to install recovery image it can be that HDD is the ?troublemaker?.
HDD replacement is not big deal and you can exchange it alone in 10 minutes only.

I purchased a Equium A200-1V0 just over a year ago. My problem is that it has gone really slow and heats up really quick.

Now ever time I switch it on a message appears
"SMART failure predicted on hard disc 2: Toshiba mk1237gsx-(s1)
Warning immediately back up your data and replace your hard disc.a failure may be imminent."

The laptop does not load on normal mode. I have left it on for days just to check if it does finaly load but no results.
Has anyone else experienced the same problem and found a solution?
Do i have to replace the hard disc or would the problem be solve if I recover the laptop some how (I only ask because I read on another forum it worked)
Also I did not receive a recovery disc with the laptop where do I get that from?

Any help is much appreciated thank you!!!

Answer:Equium A200-1V0 - SMART failure on start up

The SMART failure says everything! You should definitively replace the HDD and this is also the reason why the notebook doesn?t start in normal mode. Your HDD is faulty and must be replaced!!

Reinstalling the OS using the Toshiba recovery disk doesn?t solve this issue. A faulty HDD has nothing to do with the OS and software.
Furthermore if you have Vista you can create a recovery disk yourself. Normally on the first start up you get a message that you should burn this disk using Toshiba recovery disk creator.
If you didn?t do this as yet you can order a recovery disk from Toshiba directly:

My computer is Satellite Pro A200 (PSAE4E) purchased Oct 2007, running Vista 32bit. It has always been a bit temperamental and prone to crashing. The first time I ever did Windows Update it blue screened, so I restored it and never updated it since.

The other day it started beeping during startup, and whilst I could subsequently get into it, I believe the hard drive is failing, as it now runs very slowly and crashes.

Does the forum think that this laptop could ever be made to be stable and reliable??

Is the hard drive difficult to change? I'm thinking of doing it myself.

Are there hard drive replacement instructions online somewhere?

What model of hard drive should I fit?

Answer:Satellite Pro A200 (PSAE4E) hard drive failure

The HDD replacement is not difficult.
The HDD bay should be placed at the bottom of the unit.
There you should see the HDD bay cover secured with one screw.
Remove the screw and you will see the HDD?

To remove the HDD you have to pull out of the connectors?

But note; be always careful and don?t use force!

I have been burning and watching DVDs on my Satellite A200-1vp, with vista, since February, the last time I burned anything was a couple of weeks ago.

Suddenly there's a problem, no response when I load a disc and my divx player tells me no recorder found.

When I search in the device manager I get the message " windows cannot load the driver for this hardware" (code 39) " driver is corrupted or missing".

I tried uninstalling it and using the Toshiba upper/lower limit filter repair tool but on restart it still failed to install.

Should i try the Toshiba Recovery Disc and loose a lot of unbacked up programs/files, as last resort?
Would that work?
Anybody got any ideas?

Answer:Satellite A200-1vp with Vista - CD/DVD drive failure code 39

Here is an interesting Microsoft knowledge article:

You should firstly access the device manager and should remove the CD/DVD drive from the device list.
Then should access the registry and should remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Reboot the notebook and check if the CD/DVD drive would work again!

I wanted install Win XP SP2 on my notebook Satellite A200 (PSAE6)
I found all functional drivers except Sound card driver. I try official drivers from Toshiba homepage for XP , drivers from RealTek, from Intel - I Installed Microsoft HotFixies for HD audio Support (KB888111 and KB 835221) but drivers have same problem during installation.

Something like: "Installig Realtek HD driver failure"

Can anyone help me please? Im unhappy with Vista OS.

Thanks for all advice.

Answer:Satellite A200 (PSAE6): Installig Realtek HD driver failure

Install all XP drivers like mentioned in the Toshiba installation instruction txt file.
Before you will install the Realtek sound driver you have to update the XP to the latest state and have to install the KB888111 and KB835221 hotfixes.

Then download the High Definition Audio Codecs sound driver from the realtek page &Conn=2

Good luck

Today I decided to turn off as many useless program's as I could (to speed up my pc) so I went to Msconfig (I have vista home premium 32 bit), and turned a lot of things off. Including the "toshiba button support". The next time I restarted my extra buttons on the top of the keyboard all worked, beside one. The one that normally turns windows media player on. This time, it did nothing at all. The play/resume, stop, forward, backward and internet button all worked without problem.
However, I really liked the WMP button, so I tried to find out what the problem was. I found out it was the button support, so I decided to turn it back on.

However, this did not help :( . I turned it on in msconfig again, but it won't start with windows anymore :(. I know it's the program I need, because when I manually launch the program (it's the program: programfiles/toshiba/TBS/HSON.exe ) the button works.
I did put a V in front of the program in msconfig, but that did not work. Anyone has an idea why not?

Edit: I found a solution, although not the best. If anyone ever has the same problem:
I made a shortcut from the program that had to run (can be found in C:programfiles/toshiba/TBS and is called HSON.exe). Next I clicked on start, and said "all programs", here I selected the folder "opstarten", this is the dutch version, but my guess is it is called something like "start up" in english. In this, I pasted (copy/cut -> paste) the shor... Read more

I have recenlty bought Satellite A200 13M with Vista Home Premium.

And after every standby when I re-open my session a blue screen happens (after about 10minutes) with the following message:
and the computer reboot???

Does anybody know what's happen and how to solve this problem?

Answer:Blue screen - Driver Power State Failure - on Satellite A200-13M

Hmmm? this error message seems to be known to Microsoft guys;
I found this MS knowledge base article:;EN-US;Q246243

The MS document says:

This behavior occurs when drivers do not handle power state transition requests properly.
The error message most often occurs during one of the following actions:

? Shutting down
? Suspending or resuming from Standby mode
? Suspending or resuming from Hibernate mode

To prevent the error message from occurring, update or remove the offending driver.
Well, check the solution provided in this document. Hopefully it helps also on Vista!

I have an A200 with XP PRO installed.
After a routine defrag and restart the laptop when booting back up gets to my screensaver page then makes the noise off shutting back down.

No toolbar appears just goes straight tomy log in page and i have to shut it down?

When I try to restart in any of the three safe modes, again I get to the log in stage press enter the screen flickers twice and I get the login page again?
I have taken out the Ram stick and HDD to see if anything is amiss but they both seem fine..

Xmas eve and no laptop. Yeah I know. Get a life.
Can anybody help?

Answer:Satellite Pro A200 does not start up

If you cannot even start your notebook in safe mode it is very bad situation.
What you can try is to obtain Microsoft installations CD and try to boot up with it and use REPAIR option.

If this will not help I really don't know what you can do aside from clean OS installation with recovery media.
Do you have some important data on the HDD?

I have had my Satellite A200-27R for 2 years and 8 months and 2 weeks ago it crashed and turned itself off. At the time I was browsing on the internet and probably had open 3 or 4 webpages when it froze and I had a blue screen with white writing telling me something had gone wrong and my laptop was shutting down to protect itself.

I was unable to turn it back on for 24 hours but when it did come back on it seemd to be working normally again but I backed up all my files incase it happened again. About 10 hours later the same thing happened again: freeze; blue screen and then trying to reboot.

Since then, when I try to turn it back on it either gets stuck on the Toshiba "leading innovation" start up screen; or goes to a black screen and tells me there has been a media test failure and something to do with Realtek about 100x or until I take out the battery so it turns off; or asks me to start in safe mode and do system restore which I have done several times now but this has not helped.

I would be really greatful if anyone could tell me if they had any similar experiences and what they did and if there is anything I can do to fix it? Many thanks.

Answer:Satellite A200-27R cannot start up

BSOD can be the result of serious software problem or hardware issue.
If new OS installation didn?t help you to solve this, I think that the hardware malfunction would cause the BSOD.

Usually the notebook shuts down automatically because of the higher temperature.
Higher temperature can affect other parts like RAM modules or motherboard.
So in many cases the BSOD appears due to memory issue.

I think you should firstly clean the cooling modules. You should remove the dust using a compressed air spray. In most cases this is the best procedure to get rid of the dust.
Then check the RAM modules. You can try to boot the notebook with one module only.
Then switch the modules to different slots in order to check the slots too.

Of course the HDD should be checked too. You can use a free software called Drive fitness Test. It?s good, freeware software which can be downloaded from different pages.

If no of mentioned tips would help you, then I would recommend asking a Toshiba technician for help. They could use some special tools in order to get some results about the malfunction.

I bought this laptop about 6 months ago.
I don't use it that much, came to use it yesterday, wouldn't start.
Thought the battery must be dead. Plugged the AC in, nothing. No ac light.

I took the AC cable to my local computer shop.
He did a test on it and he said thats fine.

Has anybody got any ideas what this could be?
Thanks for any help.

Answer:Satellite A200-1AB don't start

Try to remove the battery from the notebook and disconnect the AC for about 20min.
Then connect everything again and try to power up the notebook.

If it does not help remove the battery and connect only the AC to notebook and try to start the notebook.
This is everything what you can do.
If this will still not help, then there is no other way as to contact the technicians in your country.

The authorized service partner should check the notebook.
Because the notebook is about 6 month old, the warranty is valid and everything should be done for free.

Good luck

overall, i was very happy with my A200, now 5 months old.
But last month, strange behaviour.

Vista always perfect closed.

Next day, want to start my PC.
_ON-button is doing nothing_, although battery is 100% ok.
-> SOLUTION is to remove battery, insert again and then with ON, the laptop is starting...

Other issue:
ON-button is starting up the laptop, but _screen remains black_.
-> Same solution, remove battery and start again.

Is this known? Solution ?

was wondering if anyone could help?
My Satellite Pro A200 with windows XP won't start. It begins with the Toshiba screen.
Then goes to a black screen with text where it says "PXEE61 media test failure - check cable" (I have no cables) then says exiting PXErom; moves onto the next screen which lists options: safe mode; safe mode with networking; safe mode with communal prompt; Last known Good Configeration; start windows normally.

All of which have been tried and results in the windows loading page coming up for about 20 secs then it just gives up and tries the whole process all over again (before flashing a blue screen).

Nothing seems to work - have tried taking the battery out a number oftimes...and the power cable but to no avail.
This has happened before but after a few false starts gets going - however this time it just won't snap out of it. I could take it in to some where locally but i'd prefer not to as I'm living in Spain and need the laptop asap and not sure I want to leave it in some one else's hands at the risk of them wiping the hard drive.

I'd be so so grateful for any help asap and I'm afraid short hand tech may have to be explained.

Many, many thanks.

Answer:Satellite Pro A200 - System won't start

I think the problem is that the OS cannot be found on the HDD.

The ?PXEE61 media test failure - check cable? appears mostly if the notebook tries to boot from the LAN.

Why the notebook tries to boot from the LAN?

- maybe the LAN option was chooses at first in the booting order in the BIOS
- maybe the HDD is faulty and therefore the notebook tries to boot from LAN
- maybe the MBR (master boot record) is faulty

I think you should take the Toshiba recovery CD and should format the HDD and should reinstall the OS.
This should helps.

If not, then the HDD could malfunctions and should be replaced!

My Satellite A200-1BJ doesnt start. After switching button on it starts only for 1 or 2 seconds (LED blinking, HDD working, fan working, display blank) and then it automatically switches off. Once it happened before several days but I had not time to solve it and during next days it did not occur. Now I tried to start it more than twenty times and it still doesnt start.

I tried it only with full battery and also only with power adapter. I removed HDD, RAMs, keyboard, DVD, speakers, display and some other connector under the keyboard and it still doesnt start and everytime after 1-2 seconds it goes off.

In previous months it sometimes went off because of overheating during working so I cleaned it from dust inside.

Any problem with motherboard or power?

Thanks for help.

Answer:Satellite A200-1BJ doesnt start

Hmmm...on this virtual way it is not easy to say what the problem is. described behaviour is the same as in case when the BIOS is screwed up after failed BIOS update installation.

Of course it is ?mainboard problem? but what exactly, it is not easy to say. For me it sounds like defective BIOS.

Have you installed some updates or anything that can be responsible for this?

What does it mean exactly?
Do you have after recovery installation the same problem as before (black screen with blinking cursor)?

Fact is if after recovery installation the computer doesn?t work properly it?s hardware malfunction and you need professional help from an authorized service provider.
The Toshiba recovery disk can restore the original out of box settings they are pretested by Toshiba so it?s no software issue?

Hello at all

At first i want to excuse if my english is not so well and maybe a little bit wrong.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A200-1UM since Cristmas 2007 and until now I never got any big problems with it but now I got a huge one.
Yesterday when I came back from school I started like always my computer first, to check my emails etc.
At first all was normal the normal screen appeared : "Toshiba Leading inovations",after the screen with the blinking underscore, but after that.. a progress bar appeared with the text about it : "Windows is loading files"
I thought: hm k let him load his files...

Okay after loading all seemed to be okay the next screen came: (C) Microsoft Corp. with the moving green bar on it, normal too...
But then after, it just became black.. nothing happened anymore ..
I waited.. and waited.. and waited, but nothing happened..
Then I restarted, maybe it would work now, but it happened still the same same loading screen and so on ... and it became black again ..
Then I tried to start it in Save mode (I pressed F5 at the 2nd loading screen)
I tried all diffrent options of Save mode, but it always stopeped at drivers\disk.sys ... I got like crazy ... I tried out the diffrent options at F5: start at last normal version, and so on, but it all stoped at any time... and nothing happened than anymore..

Than I had enough I put out my product discovery and wanted to format all.. At the first screen I presses F12 and than I went ... Read more

Answer:Satellite A200-1UM - No start and not formatting possible

Hi xanbur

That?s really strange and I can understand you and that you are down with your nerves. Such thins always happen if you need the notebook immediately. :(

However, I?m not sure but for me it sounds like that your HDD is faulty.
Do you have a Microsoft Windows disk? If yes, please try to install Windows from this disk.

If it doesn?t work I?m pretty sure that your HDD is faulty but you can check this with a HDD diagnostic tool. Therefore you can use Drive Fitness Test. It?s easy to use and you can make a bootable disk. From this disk you can boot and start the test.

I had a similar issue last year on my notebook. I can?t start the OS or format it using the Toshiba recovery disk. I tried the Drive Fitness Test and it told me that I should exchange the HDD. After this the notebook worked again.

Good luck! :)

Hello, i?m trying to find a whats going on with my laptop. It's a Satellite A200 on Windows 7 professional.

The screen remains as off, and i think, the BIOS does not start as well.
I?ve already tried to remove the Ram and the hard drive - Keeps doing the same. Doesn?t even bleeps over the missing Ram or drive!!!

I've had my A200-24B for almost 2 years now and the problem i'm having is driving me crazy.

My laptop will not boot at times. All the LEDs come up, the Satellite LED on the bottom left lights up as well. But there is nothing on the screen.
Doesnt matter what OS i use and I've even tried installing the latest version of the BIOS. Nothing.
I can see the hard drive led blinking, and i can even hear the Vista startup sound.
I have to switch it off manually by pressing the power button manually. Even this doest work sometimes. I remember doing the startup-shutdown routine upto 10 times.
The problem now is that Windows 7 goes to repair mode automatically. This never happened with vista.
I even tried changing RAM chips in vain.

Please keep in mind this happens at random and I've have not been able to recognise a pattern.
Any help will be appreciated.

>Its still under warranty.
Can you see Toshiba welcome screen or enter BIOS settings?
In my opinion you should not play too much with it. Put original Toshiba recovery DVD and install recovery image, if possible. Test it with ?factory settings? and if there is some problem contact nearest service and let them repair your notebook.
Satellite A200 is not newest notebook model and I can imagine warranty is valid for next few months only.

When I turn the power on all the right front panel lights are on and I can hear the fan and something loading, but afterwards I get two beeping sounds and nothing ever displays. No BIOS, no boot menu, no Toshiba splash, nothing. I read in the support FAQ about holding backspace or taking the battery out but it hasn't helped.

I have had this for 3 years now and use it quite often, I'm guessing the motherboard has finally just faulted but I want to be more sure. If I have to get repaired might there possibly be a way I could back up the data on it?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite A200 - Does not start up, no display

Hi asoberirishman

If you have already checked the Toshiba FAQ and followed the instructions there, there is nothing more that you can do. What you can do is connecting an external monitor to your notebook, maybe it?s only an internal display malfunction.

But usually in such cases it?s a mainboard or CPU issue. You should ask a notebook technician for help or with other words to check the hardware. The guys have access to all diagnostic tools from Toshiba.

Good luck! :)

My satellite A200-1N takes approx 10 minutes from startup untill it gets to the desktop and can be used?
I am sure this has got progressivel worse over the months? I've removed nearly all the files out of startup but to no avail.

Answer:Satellite A200-1N needs 10 minutes to start up

Did you install new OS on the HDD???
What SATA option did you choose in BIOS: AHCI or compatible mode?

Usually the compatible mode would slow down the HDD performance and the unit would need longer to boot.

On the other Sattelite A200-19K computer we have here,
When we try to turn it on, the power light comes on, and the AC power light if it is plugged in.
The hard drive light also flashes once then goes off but the screen stays black and the computer makes the usual 'woosh' noise that all computers do but just for a second before dieing out.

We have tried removing the battery then replacing it already but it hasn't worked.
Any ideas on what the problem could be, and how to fix it?

Answer:Satellite A200-19K wont start

Sounds not good dude!
You said you have already tried to replace the battery?

Try to remove the battery and disconnect the AC adapter for about 20-30min.
Then connect everything again and try to start the notebook.
If it doesn?t help then you have no other choice as to contact authorized service provider in your country for a help.
The A200series seems to be not very old so I assume your warranty is valid and the reparation should be done for free.

Good luck

I've got a Satellite A200 that I?ve had for almost 18 mths. I recently installed some burning software and as soon as it was finished a blue screen was displayed telling me the computer had been shut down to prevent damage.

It then automatically restarts and I try to log in, but after about 15 seconds it goes to the same blue screen and restarts again. I?ve tried starting it up in safe mode but that doesn?t help.

I?m not really that computer-competent so I?m not sure how to proceed.

If you?ve got any tips id really appreciate it.

Answer:Re: Satellite A200 - Start only with BSOD

I think if you can?t also start in safe mode you must reinstall Windows. It?s strange if your computer shows only BSOD?s after installing burning software but however, I think there is no other way.
What burning software did you install?
Maybe it?s a virus and not a problem of the burning software.

So use the recovery disk and reinstall Windows. The HDD will completely format so backup your data first if you can put the HDD in an external case.

If I push the start button, the notebook don't switch on.
To switch on, I must push the Browser button, or mediaplayer button, near start button.

There's an hadware problem? i must contact a technical support center?

Thank you so much

Hmm? I would say that your power button doesn?t work.
Maybe the power switch is faulty or there is a loose contact between the button and the motherboard? maybe it?s a mechanical malfunction.

Therefore I would say; YES. You should contact the technical support in your country.

After hard-living with originally installed Windows Vista for 4 years, I decided to move forward to Win7 operating system...

So, I formatted the C: partition and installed Windows 7 Ultimate...
For about a week everything went like a charm, but after searching through some ''crack'' sites - without installing before any antivirus suite *StUpiD GuY* - , system freezed up...
I turned it off by continuous pressing the upper right button and I restarted it the same way...
The system freezed up just after passed the BIOS testing...

I left it for some minutes -assuming overheat issues-, and after that it turned on normally loading Win7...
After approx. 5-6 minutes it freezed up again...
So, until now I've tried some things to make a conclusion...

I've tried a bootable Linux CD, and after some minutes the system freezes...(concl: not a virus issue...)
If I try to reboot instantly it doesn't even pass the BIOS...(concl: overheating?)
When I try a ''cold'' start up, everything goes OK for 5-7 or maximum 10minutes...
In that short time I managed to install a temperature monitoring program, which shows very normal temperatures until freezing again...

Ignoring that fact, I disassembled the whole laptop very carefully, I cleaned up the fun-heatsink assembly and I replaced the thermal conductive paste from the processor...

Problem persisted...

Another fact that I realized, is that ''Total Commander'' which I had installed just before the problem appeared, now is... Read more

Answer:Satellite A200-1CR - Freezes up randomly after 4-10 min from start-up

In such situation first step should be clean OS installation.
Set BIOS to default settings and install Win7 again. Don?t install any driver or anything else, just run ?naked? Win7 to see if the same problem will occurs again.

If yes there must be some problem with hardware. I cannot say for sure what it can be but test HDD and memory at first.

Having problems with my Satellite A200, which is approx 2yrs old. 2 days ago it beeped once. I

continued working then shut down with no problems. I restarted again and had no issues. Then, as of yesterday it will not go past the Microsoft logo at start up. After waiting a while there is a clicking coming from it. Roughly the same thing happened to me last year with the same laptop. Starting from scratch and reinstalling the OS solved the problem (until now).

Obviously I can do this again but I want to know if this is a known issue with this type of laptop or is it something I am unwittingly doing?

A200 PSAF6A-02C01N Vista recovery inbuilt into HDD

My friend was using this PC and it just shut down with no warnings.
Vista now will not start.. turn it on and it starts to load then apparently hangs on a blank black screen just before the Welcome screen.

I tried using Linux to access the drive to get his stuff out before reinstalling, but several different Linux versions cannot mount Windows.

I tried running system recovery by holding down 0 while starting, then releasing 0 when the pc started beeping.
Starts loading the recovery, then screen goes blank for awhile, then comes up .. error.. error code F3-F000-0001.. press ok to restart.
Press ok, error screen goes.. screen goes blank.. hard drive light shows hard drive is working.. but it doesnt shut down.

Tried running a Vista disc to reformat. Boots into the disc, loads files, then hangs, just like the original problem , on a blank screen.

Tried running XP disc.. works well until it gets to the part where you choose where you want to install .. and says.. cant install on this pc there is no hard drive!!

Tried formatting disc with Gnome Partition Editor.. it hangs while examining the disc.

I'm thinking next thing to try is to throw the thing off a tall building and see if it can fly..

anyone got any ideas?

I am trying to restore my Toshiba laptop Satellite A200-28P (Windows Vista Home) using the product recovery disk supplied with the laptop, no matter what I try to do I cannot get it to run, the only thing it will allow me to do is restore the laptop to an earlier date. I have full admin rights on the laptop, there are no virus's or any other malware on it, all this seems to have happened since it updated with windows vista about two days ago, have uninstalled the updates but that had no effect.

I cannot find the recovery console any where on the laptop yet I know it was there before. I have tried many of the solutions found on the web but none of them work. I did use the recovery disc about 2 1/2 years ago when the laptop crashed and it worked fine then.

Any help apprecited

Hey guys!
I'm hoping that someone can help me.

Every time I turn my laptop on (I have Satellite A200-23Q) when my desktop appears at some point it pauses and I get the "cfixer" window popped out saying that it can not find that cfixer file, and there is also a date when the file is deleted (it's always the todays date, the date when I'm turning my computer on). On the bottom I have options to cancel, retry or restore. When that happened for the first time I clicked restore, but it happened again the next time I was booting up so I assumed that it's a virus so since then I always click on cancel. But it's going on for 3 or 4 months now, and it reallly annoys me. When I get rid of that window the booting continues, loads the side bar, bluetooth and some other programs.

Please help! Is there any way to sort this out without reinstalling the OS?

Thank you in advance!

But now when i turn it on it comes up with this pre boot execution environment (pxe) and keeps saying the media is missing and to check the cable?

Can anyone tell me how to fix it

Answer:Satellite A200 won't start up - PXE error message

You mean this message??

+PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable+
+PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent.+

This means that the OS could not be found? possibly the HDD has died or the OS was not installed properly.

I recommend checking firstly if the HDD appears in BIOS. If not then you should replace the HDD and should install the OS again.

I have installed the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver

Any idea why?

Answer:Slow start - Satellite A200-1KZ PSAE3

Generally the booting speed depends on the amount of the applications and background processes which must be loaded at the beginning!

The booting on my notebook takes about 1min but I have installed an Antivirus application and an additional firewall.

Anyway, according to your description you don?t use the Toshiba preinstalled OS but your own one.
You should check how long the booting procedure takes with the preinstalled Toshiba image.

But we should not exclude the hardware malfunction!
Possibly there could be something wrong with the HDD.

I read several times that I can install 4gb ram in this laptop (2 2gb) but it only works with 2gb.

I bought it here: c.htm&SNO=00000886

I know that the Toshiba website says it would only accept max. 2gb.
Both 2gb ram work, I tested both of them seperate. Also 2gb plus 512MB won't work. So is it true that it only accepts 2gb? I run Vista Home Premium 32 bit.
Thanks a lot for your help! I'm almost about to send the other 2gb ram back, but I would really like to make it work! ;-)

Answer:Satellite A200-1CC doesn't start after 4GB RAM upgrade

This model has a Pentium DualCore T2080 CPU, which is limited to 2GB max RAM. The models with a Core2Duo (T7xxx series) usually support 4GB or RAM.

So the optimal solution would be to use 2 x 1GB RAM Modules.

You may have luck getting one 2GB module working with a 1GB module in the second slot, but its not recommended and may be unstable or cause other problems.

Installing Vista 64bit wont help. Its a limitation of the CPU/Chipset.

Can anyone help me in getting this password.
How and from whare I can obtain this.

Answer:Satellite A200: password appears at the start-up

Hm, it seems that is a BIOS related issue. In this case, please go first to the drivers download site and download the newest BIOS for your machine. If the password does not change even after you performed the BIOS update then go to the store where you bought the machine and tell them that your machine has a BIOS password since you bought it.

It think they should handle your problem in your interests.

I hope someone can help.

My laptop would not boot this morning, so I hit CTRL-ALT-DEL to restart, I got the splash screen telling me to push F2 or F12, let it go and the laptop stopped at a black screen with a flashing cursor in the top left corner.
I had done a backup two days ago, so decided it was time to do a factory restore and clean up the disk.
I shut it down, then pushed the 0 (zero) key and tapped the power button, as per the instructions. When it beeped, I let go of the button adn it now said:
A disk read error ocurred
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

And at the bottom is:

I got this Satellite A200 PSAF0A-04X019 from a family member, who didn't create recovery disks when setting the laptop up.

Can I do anything to access the recovery partition and run a file manually, or is its beyond repair??

Answer:How to start recovery installation on Satellite A200?

If you cannot start HDD recovery installation on ?regular way? there is no other chance to have access to recovery image.
To be honest I don?t know what this error means exactly. I don?t know if there is some problem with HDD or recovery image.

What you can do now is to install own OS and later download all drivers, tools and utilities alone or try to contact Toshiba service provider and ask if they can order one recovery DVD for you.

Everything was working fine after restarting computer.

Have never defragged my hard drive so downloaded Piriform Defraggler 2.00.230

Ran the program and left the computer.

I have tried to restart the computer but can only get past the microsoft green loading bar and then stops at a black screen with only the cursor, at this point have to turn off as nothing else can be done.

Laptop starts fine in safe mode.

I uninstalled the Piriform Defraggler program thinking this may be the problem.

I get 2 options when starting the Computer normally "Repair your computer (recommended)" or "start windows normally". If I select "Repair your computer" I just get a message saying if iv recently installed new programs to uninstall them and if iv plugged an external device into the computer to remove it and the problem cannot be fixed and to send a report to Microsoft.

Now it is saying turn on your camera when I?m running the program of my cam.
I don?t know what else I must do...

Answer:Satellite A200 - after Karspersky installation cannot start cam software

Here is the cure:
Probably a good idea to go to Toshiba and download to your desktop the latest software for the camera. Do not open this software yet. Go to control panel and remove the existing Camera Assistant software. Next open the Kaspersky software and click on settings, click on threats and exclusions under the Option tab. Click on trusted zone. Click on Trusted Applications. If CEC_MAIN.exe is there, remove it. Restart the computer.
Might be a good idea to remove your internet cable because we are going to right click on the Kaspersky shortcut and click on PAUSE PROTECTION. This is a must!!! Probably best to set it for a 10 minute pause. Close this menu, and then re-open Kaspersky. Go to Settings > Threats & Exclusions > Trusted Zones > Objects > Add+ > and then manually type in or copy and paste the following exactly as stated below::

C:\Program Files\Camera Assistant Software for Toshiba\CEC_MAIN.exe

to the exclusion rules, to allow CEC_Main.exe to be a trusted application. Then reinstall the camera assistant software. Kaspersky should still be in the pause mode, but will let you know that CEC_MAIN.exe can be be a virus.
Ignore but look for the option on this same screen that will allow you to add this as a trusted application. This is the key to whole thing....Kaspersky has to be in PAUSE mode during the reinstallation of the software. Once you tell Kaspersky to add this as a trusted application, your installation shou... It is not easy to say what is wrong but I presume some files are missing but needed for application that starts with operating system.

What you can try is to start your notebook in safe mode (F8) to see if the same message will be shown. If not start your notebook on regular way and go to MSCONFIG and check list of applications listed for automatically start-up. Try to disable some of them and watch carefully what will happen.

All until I once turned on my laptop, closed the lid and then raised it again after 5 seconds (when all the lights turned on), the screen worked normally.
Since then, I figured out that I have to do that procedure each time I'm turning it on, or else way the screen doesn't work at all.

So, I have to close the lid and then reopen it after 5 seconds (not less) every time I turn on my laptop. It works that way for months already.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Answer:Satellite A200-1M8 close and then open lid for screen to start working

The FN + F5 key combination switches between the monitors.

Did you use this combination in order to test the display switch?
To be honest I?m not quite sure if this key combination would be helpful because it sounds a little bit like a problem with an display ON/Off switch (sensor).

Usually such switch enables and disables the display backlight if you close the lid?

Therefore I would recommend checking this, but of course this is job is for an notebook technician?

I have Toshiba A200 PSAFCA-01K00J.
Last night I restarted the laptop and display didn't appear.
Sometimes (not everytime) on start-up I can hear 3 beeps (1 very very short, and 2 short beeps).
And then Windows OS loads properly. Can hear sound/music that Windows plays on startup.

Have tried 1 of 2 memory but still same result. Have tried connecting external monitor but the monitor says "No Signal".

Need to know what is wrong with the laptop. Please help/advise.

Answer:Satellite A200 PSAFCA - Display gone - hear 3 beeps on start-up

>Have tried 1 of 2 memory but still same result. Have tried connecting external monitor but the monitor says "No Signal".

Maybe you should try FN + F5
This key combination switches the display output to external monitor.

But to be honest, it sounds like a display problem.
I would recommend contacting the ASP in your country which would check the display

I have installed the correct drivers for my Satelitte A200 08JC running XP, but when I click the starting button to run the software, it shows loading activity for a few seconds, then stops. The camera does not light up and the display software that shows the camera's view doesn't start: nothing happens.

I have searched all over Google for a solution but other users with similar problems at least get an error message to help them out. I have nothing like that.

Does anyone have ideas that could help?

Hello, I have a few issues with my A200 laptop which is approximatley 3.5 years old.
The most serious problem is that the computor, most recently takes up to 3 attempts to get it to run. or shuts down of it's own accord even when plugged in, this doesn't happen regularly but often enough to be a big pain in the prevurbial, especially when in the middle of an assigment ( yes I frequently back up), the fan appears to be working ok. I'm not sure if there is a driver problem that isn;t showining when I run a diagnostic through toshiba pc diagnostic or device manager or microsoft diagnostic or a direct driver update (which has never been required). my main line of thought is that there is a problem with memory or file extension.
Q1 Can file extension errors cause this problem? how do I solve file extension problems without spending any money- if possible?

When I connect an external display quite often the display driver stops working often reesulting in a complete freeze requiring either the use of task manager or a reset by turning off the computor and rebooting- bad news really.
Q2 how can I remedy this?
I have updated the bios and have all current required updates.
Any pointers, help etc would be greatly apecieated.

Answer:Satellite A200 - start up freeze and display driver stopping

To be honest I don?t know why you think about file extensions? If your notebook shuts down itself it could be an overheating issue. The notebook would shut down to protect the hardware.
Have you ever clean your notebook before? If you have it already for 3.5 years there is a lot of dust in cooling ventilators so use compressed air spray to blow the dust.

Regarding your second question: Have you installed newest display driver from Toshiba driver download page? This is important because the Toshiba display drivers are pretested and designed for this model. So they would work properly and don?t cause any problems.

I hope I could help you a little bit ;)

Cannot start up my Toshiba Satellite A200 running Vista.

The following message pops up on the screen: "The file is possibly corrupt. The file header checksum does not match the computed checksum".

I have tried the recovery disc, but it does not solve the problem.
The following message appears: Status: =xc0000428 (together with instructions that do not seem to help me at all).

What can I do?

Answer:Satellite A200 cannot start up - file header checksum is possibly corrupt

You mean the new OS installation using the Toshiba recovery disk didn?t help?
Hmmm? in such case it seems like a RAM issue?

I have searched a little bit in net regarding this error and found some info that this could be related to the faulty RAM.

You should try to check if only one RAM module is affected.
Otherwise you will have to replace both modules and then should try to reinstall the OS.

Hy guys....

I have a toshiba Satellite A200-1cr model, with a motherboard model k000051290 which doesn't work any more...
So i must buy another one...

The problem is that I can't find another one with the same model, in a decent price...because...400 euro for a new MB...
I better buy another laptop...

So... I found on Ebay a MB TOSHIBA SAT A200 A205 Motherboard ISKAE LA34 TESTED, model K000054260, refurbished...on 150 dollars...

Now I ask you...
I saw the picture with this MB and it's identically with my MB... now...will I have some problems with my laptop if I buy this MB?
What do you recomend?

Answer:Motherboard for Satellite A200-1CR fits with other A200 models?

My 2nd brand new Satellite Pro U400 (first one HDD failed after 1 week!) now fails to boot in Vista.
Been working fine for 4 weeks with original upgrade from Vist Basic to Ultimate and Office 2007.

Today on switch on Toshiba logo bar (with go to Setup etc) started then replaced by Microsoft "bar" then replaced by touchpad/mouse arrow.
Mouse arrow movable on screen but then nothing else boots.

Tried all safe modes and same problem.

Any ideas please or do I have a 2nd "Lemon"!

Answer:Satellite Pro U400 - Vista start up failure

I doubt the laptop is a "lemon". It sounds like a software problem.

You can try two things:

* Boot into Safe Mode by pressing the F5 or F8 key just after the Toshiba Splash screen. In safe mode, you can revert back to a previous Restore Point, remove bad drivers, run CHKDSK C: /F and so on..

* Hold down the 0 (zero) key when you power-on the laptop. This will run Recovery and reinstall Windows to its factory state. Backup your data first! (if there is any data)

Hello, at first, sorry for my english:).

I have Toshiba Satellite A350-13A model and really big trouble with it: when I switch it on by the power button, power lamp is starting to shine, I can hear voice of fan for a secound - then it stops and i notice that HDD is starting to work - I can hear it and see by flashing lamp next to battery lamp, CD drive is working too, but nothing else happens. There's nothing on monitor. It looks like bios isn't starting. Let me explain what have I been doing when it all started. My computer has been working correctly but there have been a little mess on my HDD so I recovered system from recovery CDs, which I've made after buying computer. Everything was ok, system works correctly, so I started to install my software. I didn't uninstall this factory-installed program for system optimizing which is (I can't remember it's name now, but I mean this program which shows you updating for your drivers - I remember that there were updates for face recognition, video etc.) I installed all of updates that this program shows, including BIOS update. When I was done with installing these updates, I noticed that my keyboard is not working - with any button.

By the time, windows ended to doing it's update, so I switched "Turn on system again" from the windows start menu by the mouse. Then system closed itself, I saw that windows is updating itself like it always do after downloading updates, but when it all came to the end and computer sho... Read more

Answer:Satellite A350 doesn't start - BIOS failure or mainboard crash?

The caps lock light might not work if the BIOS is bad. It does sound like the BIOS is bad. First, I recommend that you see if the computer is under warranty. If it is, then let Toshiba fix it for you.

If it's not, then you might have success with Crisis Recovery Disk. I don't have any A350, but I have used Crisis Recovery with lots of dead Toshiba's, and it sometimes works. There is more information [here|] but be careful, because this method can make a good BIOS go bad.

I was thinking of buying one of the models, but the images differents sites use to advertise varies on other sites, some have silver keypad, and others black keypad, im awae the main diff is the gfx card but what image is the correct one.

Please help, hope this makes sense lol

Answer:Differences between Satellite A200-1YO & Satellite A200-244

Hi Duncan,

you cannot always rely on images on websites to dictate your shopping experience, as these websites may not have updated their pages in a while.

My suggestion would be to visit a retail store selling the computer model you are after and view the computers there (After making a note of the computer model number you wish to purchase).

However, for your purposes, A200 (last year's model) had a silver keyboard and the newer models (A300) have a glossy black keyboard.

I hope this helps.

A large number of faults have developed very quickly (over the course of about 3 days) with my Toshiba laptop.
Operating System: Windows 8.1 64-bit (6.3, Build 9600) (9600.winblue_gdr.140305-1710)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: TOSHIBA
System Model: SATELLITE S50D-A
BIOS: 1.40
The first issue is that the laptop keyboard will usually fail within 5 minutes of start-up, becoming completely unresponsive. Sometimes the touch-pad has become unresponsive as well.
Occasionally I will get the battery error symbol. The Toshiba health monitor will then tell me that the health of the battery is poor. This happens occasionally, not every boot. Most of the time the battery works fine, it charges normally and the laptop can function without the charger.
Usually about 30 minutes (although it does vary) after booting the laptop will slow down and then BSOD, it will then tell me it is gathering error information, will reach 100% and then freezes. I've left it about 30 minutes in this state before. A list of the BSODs can be found here.
Sometimes on start-up, usually after having shut it down recently, the monitor will not display anything, not even back-lit. This happens with nearly every restart too.
Sometimes the laptop also loads very slowly, with the desktop background loading, then the taskbar and finally the desktop icons.
I have tried updating windows to the latest version, I have tried uninstalling a... Read more

I notice that my LED with "Satellite" word on the front panel doesn't shine.

Do you have any assumptions about causes?

Answer:Satellite A200-1N1: "Satellite" LED on the front panel is not shining

Hi Maresha,

The front 'logo' LED is enabled or disabled using a BIOS option 'Display Front Logo' which can be set to ON or OFF as you require. Access your BIOS settings (F2 during boot up) and check that this setting is set to 'ON'.

Hm, I think it?s logical: The more RAM you have the more performance you will gain. And the other aspect is that if you install a 2 GB module, you can install another 2 GB module to get 4 GB in total. But be careful regarding the 4 GB issue!!

Please use the search function of the forum if you're interested in the 4GB issue.

Hi all,

My new laptop is an A200-27R PSAE3E-07H027EN
I hate Vista so I downgraded to XP Porfessional.
Everything seems fine BUT I have problems with Fn keys :-(
Strange is that some are working Fn+ESC, Fn+F1, Fn+F3, Fn+F4... but I cannot change the brightness (Fn+F6, Fn+F7) and I cannot activate/deactivate the touchpad (Fn+F9).

I installed some Toshiba Power Saver and it helped me to fix some brightness... but I need it to variate it during the day... to have fixed brightness is VERY frustrating... I really need your help, people.

I need ONLY these three Fn combination to work, I don't mind even to cancel the other ones...

P.S.: if you have a working driver, would you mind to send it by e-mail? thanks!

The new LCD notebook display can be ordered from the Toshiba authorized service provider in your country.
The guys can order it directly from the Toshiba head stock.
But note; the new LCD display cost a little fortune! I think it?s about $300-$360.

Maybe a second hand display would better possibility. But it?s you choice.

If you want a new HDD you should a 2.5? HDD with SATA interface. Furthermore you can buy a HDD with SATA2 interface because it?s downgrade compatible to SATA1.

As I understand your issue, the Satellite A200 recognizes all disk properly and can burn the CD as well but the OTHER computer recognize the CD as blank.
Is it right?

Well, I would recommend using another brand of CD disks!
Try and test different CDs from different manufacturers?.

Hallo, i want to install a second internal hdd drive at the hdd2 bay, but when i opened the bay i noticed that there aren't any connectors installed.
So what is the point of a second hdd bay if there are no connectors inside?

Answer:Satellite A200-1M8 and second HDD bay

The point of that bay is, IF you purchase a model with a second HDD equipped then there would be a connector, but if purchased a model with only ONE drive equipped then you just will have one drive since the connector for the second HDD was not soldered on the mainboard of your model type.

Easy and simple. If you want to have a second drive then you will have either:

- solder a connector to the mainboard which causes the revocation of your warranty and does not mean that you can use a second drive since you will need the appropriate BIOS Rom
- purchase a USB-HDD and accept your situation :/

Thats all.

Not all A200 notebook models support the second HDD.
If you want you can find out very easily if your notebook supports such second HDD.

At the bottom of the unit you could find the second HDD bay. Remove the cover which secures the bay and check if there are some HDD connectors.

If not, then the second HDD is not possible

I have 5.20 BIOS.

Answer:Satellite A200-14E and 4GB Ram

DO you use the Toshiba preinstalled OS.
The Toshiba notebooks are preinstalled and delivered with the 32bit OS; early XP 32bit and now Vista 32bit.

According to the Microsoft and Toshiba information the *BIOS* and the Operating System reports approximately 3GB due to the 32-bit system limitation.

I have Toshiba Satellite A200-1ZB model with processor Intel Pentium Dual-Core T2370 @ 1,73.
I was wondering, what max processor speed is supported by this model?? Anyone know? (without overheating of course;)

Specs. (HWiNFO32)
Processor: Intel Pentium Dual-Core T2370 @ 1,73, FSB:533MHz, L2: 1MB
CPU Platform: Socket P mPGA478 (Micro-FCPGA)/mBGA479 (Micro-FCBGA)
Motherboard Chipset: Intel GM965 (Crestline-GM) + ICH8M
FSB Frequency Support: 800 MHz
Memory: 2x1024 Samsung 667MHz (PC5300)

Answer:Satellite A200-1ZB: What max CPU can I use?

Upgrading the CPU in laptops is a hit and miss situation. It depends on the chipset and BIOS compatibility for the CPU.

Your best option would be to look at the other A200 models in the same family, which is PSAE6E-xxxxxx, and determine which one has the fastest CPU, and buy one of those for your A200.

If you install a CPU that is not within the PSAE6E range, the system may not boot, or it may overheat, or it may not run at full speed.

I found this article from Toshiba explaining component upgrades:

Hello all.

I have brought this Satellite A200-1zf laptop about 1 year ago, and from 2 months is so hot!
I mean that it's warm enough that you cannot put your hand under the cooler.

I've cleaned the cooler but without any result.

Do you know why it's keep warming in this way?

Answer:Re: Satellite A200-1ZF is getting hot

>I have brought this Satellite A200-1zf laptop about 1 year ago, and from 2 months is so hot!
This means that the temperature was not really high in the past?

Well, in most cases the temperature arises to a higher level due to clogged cooling modules.
Dust and debris would prevent the fans from properly working and this could lead to a higher internal temperature.

You could try to clean the cooling modules using a compressed air spray.
Furthermore you should ensure that there is enough free space around the notebook in order to get good fresh air circulation.

If this doesn?t help then I would recommend contacting the notebook technician.
The technician could disassemble the notebook and could renew the thermal grease which is placed between the CPU and cooling modules.

Well, I'm pretty sure, that the maximum amount of RAM is limited to 2GB. This should be found in the manuals too.
What modules were built in when you bought it?

I'm sorry to tell you so, but maybe you can sell your remaining ram at good conditions.
None the less, the OCZ memory was a good choice.
