Satellite A300-1QD - How to restore preinstalled Vista?

Question: Satellite A300-1QD - How to restore preinstalled Vista?

I made a big mistake two years ago. I installed windows 7 on my Satellite A300-1QD but on the notebook was Windows Vista installed and I did no recovery disk, but I have the original serialnumber of it.

Are there any possibilities to get Windows Vista back on the notebook without to buy an new version of Windows Vista?

Preferred Solution: Satellite A300-1QD - How to restore preinstalled Vista?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If you don?t have a recovery disk you must order such a disk from Toshiba directly to restore preinstalled Windows Vista with all drivers and tools (factory settings):

But it?s not for free? As far as I know it costs ~30 Euros.

So I don?t understand why you didn?t create the recovery disk yourself. Everything is mentioned in user manual?

Hi there

I bought myself a A300-1FC at the german Saturn sotres chain.
It is a nice notebook so far the only thing that annoys me is the pile of preinstalled software which is of no use for me at all.

Is there any way of recovering the plain windows only and then installing all required drivers
and service packs manually. Or at least a way that leaves all the useless software aside?

If not I am quite keen on downgrading - I don't like vista particulary much anyway but combined
with the annoyment of the preinstalled software it is certainly enough reason do get rid of it.

Any help?

Answer:Satellite A300-1FC - Recovery of Vista without preinstalled software

As you can see Toshiba, like all other notebook manufacturers, offers Recovery image. This recovery image contains all necessary drivers, Toshiba designed tools and utilities and also some additional software.

You must understand that maybe 10% people have good PC knowledge and they are able to configure notebook alone. I am happy that you are one of them but you must know that recovery image is designed for easy and not complicated OS installation. There is no possibility to install ?clean? Vista using this recovery media.

Other way nobody force you to use all of them. All useless stuff you can remove from the system. Believe me I do the same thing. You can optimize OS on your needs.

Bye and good luck!

I wanted to use system restore due to attempting to reconfigure administrator rights, its somehow deleted all my shortcuts on my menu and messed about with a few things.

However when i try to use system restore (i have attempted to use it in safe mode, via cmd promp, both together and normal boot), yet all seem to stay hanging in the same green page where it reads something along the lines of 'system is initialising restore etc' (spending 45 mins on this page before i get fed up and shut down the computer). I have tried using different restore points but the same occurs. It like its not working at all.

Can anyone help with this please?

My laptop is a Satellite Pro A300-1A8.

Answer:Satellite Pro A300-1A8 Vista system restore not working

You mean the Vista tool which can be found in (Start button -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore) does not work and you cannot set back the Vista to the early time point?

Well, usually there is no much to do? to restore the OS to the early time point you have to star the system restore tool and have to choose the restore point. Then everything should run automatically.
If this doesn?t work then something is messed up? as you said in your posting above somehow deleted all your shortcuts on my menu and messed about with a few things? possibly the OS has been messed to.

Try to clean the OS using the free software for example CCLeaner. I use it too. It?s great. Repair and clean the OS and check if it?s possible to use the system restore tool again.

I found also this MS page:

Hi everyone,

With my Toshiba nothing but problems. First I waited replacement screen for month cause there wasn?t any at warehouse. K, after that I downgraded to XP but driver are buggy, sound is poor, cant get USB2.0 to work, system is slower than Vista so I decided to return to Vista.

But of course, there is no DVD so I need to restore via HDD restore folder I have. But cool, Toshiba doesn't let me to download utility to create backup DVD. So what I can do? I have HDD Recovery folder, how to now create DVD without utility I was first given.

You can say it?s not Toshiba fault; you did that bla bla. Of course, but first I waited replacement screen, I wasn?t given original Vista DVD, I cant even download utility from Toshiba. What sad piece of equipment. I have experience, my first installed OS was DOS and Win95, numerous OS installation after that but this that I can install back my OS in 2009 I wouldn't hope its gonna happen.

Any ideas you good ppl

Answer:Satellite A300-1lT - I want restore Vista with the recovery option

Sorry buddy, but in this case you need a new recovery disk. The HDD Recovery folder is not useful for you because you don’t have Windows Vista yet and as you already know the Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator can’t be downloaded.

So you must order a new disk from an authorized service provider or Toshiba directly:

To be honest this is not a problem of Toshiba. If you start the notebook at first time you get the following message and this should not be ignored:

+your system is equipped with hard disk recovery system. if you need to repair+
+your computer by restoring it to original factory state, you can do it directly+
+from harddisk (press F8 when you boot your computer, choose "Repair your computer"+
+and follow the menue instructions) or create a bootable Recovery Disc Medium for this purpose.+

+Toshiba recommends you to create Recovery Disc Medium using the "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator" to ensure+
+hat you are able to restore your computer to the original factory installed state, even if your computer+
+gets seriously damaged+

I bought a Toshiba Satellite A300-1IH and in the manual user I read about TrueSuite Access Manager but I did not find installed it on the pc.

Answer:Satellite A300-1IH: TrueSuite Access Manager not preinstalled

Do you have a Finger Print on your notebook???
I doubt this and therefore the TrueSuite Access Manager is not installed on the A300-1IH.

Only the notebooks with Fingerprint feature (there are different notebook series) have preinstalled TrueSuite Access Manager.

I think I could clarify this? ;)

Hi all.

I have modified the partion of my HDD, now the preistalled Recovery Partion is not available anymore.
I understand that in this way the partion table was modified and so the Recovery Partition cannot be found in order to restore the factory settings or to create a recovery disk.

However, the recovery partition is still on HDD and its contents seem to be correct.

Is there a way to make the recovery partition available yet?
(At the moment, I can use the lapton only by booting it from a"live cd")

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite L50-A-1D6: restore the preinstalled Recovery Partition

> Is there a way to make the recovery partition available yet?
As I understand you recovery partition is still available but problem is that recovery installation tool cannot find it anymore. Recovery partition is visible only in case that notebook has original ?factory settings? and originally defined partition structure.

Unfortunately now you will not be able to start recovery image installation.
Have you created recovery media following instructions described in user?s manuals document?

I had to replace the hard drive on my laptop Satellite Pro A300. Before that, I successfully made a complete computer backup with Windows Complete PC backup. Now I would like to restore the entire computer from the backup, but I have at this problem:
When the computer restarts I press F8 key and select Repair My Computer, and in the System Recovery Options, I click on the Windows Complete PC Restore. Then the window appears for the selection of available backups. When I click the Next button, I get the following message:
"To restore your computer, Windows needs to format the disk that Windows Recovery Enviroment is currently running on. Boot your computer from a Windows installation disc or a recovery disc to try again."

I don't have a Windows installation disc. When I boot my computer from the rescue disc and press F8 key in Advanced boot option, I don't see te option Repair My Computer.

Does anyone know, how can I restore my computer?

Answer:How to restore my Satellite Pro A300?

I don't know what really happens in your computer but it's a little bit difficult to restore without Windows installation disk. On another computer, you can download and install Acronis true image and activate it. In Acronis, there is an option ,, Convert Windows backup copy to Acronis backup,,. You convert it. Then, create Acronis bootable rescue media onto disk. The converted Acronis backup, you can place on usb flash drive or burn dvd disks. Insert, Acronos bootable media, browse the backup and restore.\

It's a little bit difficult to explain everything, but in your case, it's better to get windows copy and make a clean installation

I've bought this laptop with no recovery disk. Currently C drive is messed up(failed to install windows XP), How can I restore system from a pre-installed system on a hidden partition?

Answer:How to restore disk on Satellite A300-1AL

Try holding down the Zero key when turning on the laptop.

On my laptop, I need to time it properly, like this:

1) Hold 0 key
2) Turn on laptop
3) Release 0 key when the Toshiba logo appears

If the recovery partition is already gone, you can order a recovery disc from Toshiba

Sorry if this is in the wrong place or has been answered, but a friend of mine would like me to restore her Satellite A300, the only info she can give me is that it runs on Vista and that it is a psagoe 03uo1yen.

She has no discs for this laptop at all. She has purchased a memory pad so that I can do a backup of her laptop before I start anything on it.
My question is this, will she lose Vista and/or any drivers with a system restore? I was hoping to restore it to 'out of the box', but realise this may not be possible.

Thank you in advance of any information you can provide or advice you may have.

Answer:How to Restore an Satellite A300 PSAGOE?

Hello Carla and welcome on Toshiba forum

At first I must say that ?out of the box? state can be done with original recovery disc and if you don?t have it that can be problematic.
If this notebook runs with original preinstalled Vista there is maybe possibility to do this using HDD recovery option.

It works as described on this Toshiba document -
Please check this option.

At the end I must say that I was not able to identify this notebook model and give you more info so please be so nice and post here exact model number (PAxxx-xxxxx) and model name (A300-xxx).
Both numbers you can find at the bottom on Toshiba sticker.

If you have more questions let us know.

Switched on my laptop today. Got past the toshiba screen but then nothing. Did the following:

1. Switched it off and hit the (Function 2) button on the Tosihiba screen.
2. Restored defaut values - Save and Exit.

Then switched Off and On again and now I get a double beep and a WARNING: 0251 System CMOS checksum bad - Default configuration used.

Is there anyway I can get the thing to boot. I have backed-up most of my data and I have made recovery disks but there are a couple of files stiil on there that I would like to have.

The laptop came with Vista pre-installed. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Satellite A200 will not boot (Vista preinstalled)

This problem can be cause by different reasons. Maybe is CMOS battery defect or weak.
What you can try is to connect your notebook to AC power supply and leave it at least 24 hours. At this time CMOS battery will be loaded and then try to check if the notebook starts properly.

If this message will be shown again and again I?m afraid you need professional help. Contact Toshiba service and ask for help. I can imagine they will replace CMOS battery.

My computer freezes for a sec or 2 every so often and from Toshiba support I was told that it might be a software issue. I don't think so, because it started on the day I bought the laptop and the display driver keeps on stop working, but because I was told that if it's a software issue.
I would have to pay for it, I want to try everything before I send it for repair. Therefore I would like to restore my Satellite into its original state as it was just when I bought it.

So basically I have 2 questions:

1. Does anyone have an idea why it keeps freezing on me? And what I should try to do to fix it?
2. Can anyone tell me how to restore the laptop to its original state?

Thank you very much, Dina

Hi ..

my friend has this laptop: Satellite A300-20P.

I'm not sure what he did, but he installed Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit, then 32-bit again. The whole thing messed up.
Anyway, he didnt make a recovery disk for his laptop (damn thing). Now, becasue I have a Toshiba laptop too I know that there is Recovery on the Harddisk on the D partition (not the windows partition). I tried to use "Repair Windows" booting Windows, when I try to restore the whole PC from a backup media it says " No backup media found", now I'm not sure if the recovery sector still available or not, because the Windows cant boot. So is there away to find the recovery media?

If this mission impossible, then I have Windows Vista Ultimate to install and I can download the drivers from the site? The problem is, how I will make recovery media when install the Windows and the drivers ?

Please this is urgent.

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Satellite A300-20P - How to restore from Toshiba recovery?

To be honest I?m confused at the moment because first you wrote about a problem of your friend?s notebook and you wrote something about your own notebook where you try repair Windows.
So I don?t understand what you mean exactly.

But fact is you have two possibilities to restore factory settings:
1)Use the Toshiba HDD recovery option. You can start it if you go in advanced boot menu (F8) and select ?Repair my computer?. Then follow the screen instructions.
The first partition of the HDD will be wiped and you get factory settings back.
2)Use the Toshiba recovery disk. It?s very similar to HDD recovery option but whole HDD will be wiped (all files will be deleted). After this you have factory settings back, too.

So that?s all what you can do to restore the factory settings. If the HDD recovery option not work and you don?t have a recovery disk you have to order a new one from Toshiba directly.

Alternative you can use a Microsoft disk to install Windows and then download and install all drivers and tools from Toshiba website step by step.

Toshiba, Windows Vista Home Premium
Intel Pentium Dual CPU T2370 1.73GHZ, 2.GB Ram

Answer:My Satellite notebook Vista preinstalled running slow

What notebook do you have exactly?

I have to say that a fact that a Vista needs 10sec to open an folder doesn?t mean that your notebook runs slowly.
There are many reasons why Vista needs a little bit longer to open a folder.
First of all you have to know that Vista needs a lot of hardware resources; more than a Win XP or other Windows operating system. Furthermore the high amount of background processes can slow down the Vista.
Last but not lease if an Antivirus scanner is installed on the notebook then this could slow down the performance too because every file would be checked by Antivirus before it would be opened.

What you could do is to start the msconfig and you could check in the ?Startup? tab if there are some processes and applications which are not important for you.
Then you could disable it.

The data transfer through my USB ports to and from remote devices seems very slow. I have vista installed and have tried updating to the latest drivers from Intel for the 82801G controller, v8.2.0.1008 however this does not seem to improve matters.

I notice in the list only one of the controllers is listed as USB 2, I will try each one and see if any are faster, once the current 1/2 hour transfer finishes. Does anyone know if only 1 port is USB 2 or if there is any way to speed them all up?

Also in general file transfer in vista is painfully slow I've tried various solutions but none have offered much improvement. It is disappointing performance and I am tempted to install XP to improve the performance; however that does seem like a backwards step and would be very inconvenient. Does anyone know if any improvements are in the pipeline?

Okay, here is the problem:

I bought a brand new Toshiba Satellite L40-139 laptop in Austria and there comes Vista preinstalled. Ok, Vista is in German, and I do not know German. But, I made a choice to learn German and start using a Vista. After one month Vista makes me crazy (Not language, just Vista) and I just want to install XP. I do not need anything more.
I have spent more then five days to trying to archive this, but with no success and I am disappointed, very much.

I have fallowed all kind of instruction and I have done a lot of things, but no one of them helped me.
So, problem is like this:
I have made partition for XP, so I have two partitions like: Vista (C), XP (D) and Datas (G), and my CD/DVD (E: ).
I have only enabled boot from CD/DVD, but when I insert CD and start installing Vista it says to me something like this:
Press any key to boot from CD ..
When I do this, I get some message, which is very quick where it says something like this, (I am not quiet sure what it says because it is fast):
Checking Your configuration....
After that, nothing happens, do not know why, I just get black monitor and CD/DVD stops working?

This really make me crazy and I cannot install XP.
It seems that does not recognize CD/DVD, and I have tried with several XP bootable CD/s and they are working on my Desktop.

Can anyone help, please, because I am going crazy?

Answer:Cannot start XP installation on Vista Home Premium preinstalled Satellite L40-139

Just a question: why do you want have Vista and Xp on one drive? Wouldn?t it be better to format the whole drive (backup your important files before on DVD or USB-HDD) and the installing just XP on the drive?

I think it would be more easier to this then to make some dualboot stuff which is a complicated procedure and not very good to handle.

Maybe you should think about and make a decision. :)

Would be appreciate to know your opinion on my thought.

Hi all

As i know, restoring factory settings from Hdd image (F8) will remove all data on disk C:. Using recovery disks it will remove all data on local C: and local D : ( creating hdd image folder). If you have some important data move it to external usb device or dvd disks for any case. That's all I can suggest you

After working with my new Toshiba P100-10U the system could not read DVDs anymore, it's still able to read CD-ROMs! In device manager a grey exclamation mark is visible.

The event log shows repeatedly "Der Treiber hat einen Controllerfehler auf \Device\CdRom0 gefunden.", something like "Driver has detected controller error on \Device\CdRom0."

I installed the system again but the erroneous behaviour is still there.
The system has a Mat****a DVD-RAM UJ-850S drive.

I already checked the registry entry {4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}. There are no UpperFilter or LowerFilter attributes.

Any idea?

Thank's Kalle

Answer:Vista preinstalled Satellite P100-10U cannot read DVDs - event code 11

I?m really surprised because such error issue should be solved after the new OS installation.
Furthermore as you already suggested the Upper and Lower filter in the registry key are mostly responsible for such strange drive issues.

Anyway, I would recommend removing the drive from the device manager and reboot the notebook. After the new reboot the OS should recognize the CD/DVD drive again. You should see a message like ?new device was installed? or something like that?

Additionally it would be advisable to use a system repair program like ?CCleaner?. It?s freeware!!

Finally you should check the registry again if the Upper and Lower filter exists and delete it.
Don?t forget to reboot the unit!

Good luck

I have a Toshiba Satellite A300-15C to some queries:

Is this kind comes with Windows Vista DVD?

Answer:Does Satellite A300-15C comes with Vista DVD

The newest Toshiba notebooks seem to be delivered with the Toshiba HDD image.
This means that the Vista and all other drivers, tools and utilities are already preinstalled on the HDD and the image is placed on another partition.

You can burn this image on the DVD to get a Recovery DVD.
As I?m not mistaken there should be preinstalled Toshiba software called ?Recovery Disk Creator. This tool can be used to create a Recovery DVD.

So once again; the notebooks are not delivered with the Vista DVD.

I wanna ask about downgrade from Vista to XP.

Firstly, if I degrade to WinXP will I lose all my data or files such as my music and movies?
And also all drivers have been installed like "Repair my computer" case?

Secondly, If its no, then i will install another OS such as WXP SP3, Can i do it?

Answer:Re: Satellite A300-Y00 - Downgarde Vista to XP

Do you downgrade Vista to XP by using the Microsoft disk?
If yes, all files will be deleted that are stored on the first partition. You can format the second partition but this is not necessary.
Before you install XP you can choose what partition will be formatted or not.

Of course you must download and install each driver after downgrade. You can find it on the Toshiba website: => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers

How can I get them ?

Answer:Satellite Pro A300-1NT - need Vista 64-Bit drivers

It looks like the Vista 64bit drivers for A300 series are not available on the Toshiba European driver page at this time.

Therefore you?ve got two possibilities;
Either you will wait till such drivers will be released on the driver website or you will try to collect such drivers at your own hand.
You could search and try for example such single drivers released for another notebook series and could search also on website from chip manufacturers like Intel, Realtek, etc?

I tried to restore my Toshiba Satellite A300-1QD to factory settings by hitting the F8 button.
I followed every step correcrtly, but when it came to 99% the computer was shut down all of a sudden.

I don't know why, but maybe the computer got overheated or something, but I had enough battery life.
Then I tried to power it on again, and it says that there may have been some damage caused and it says I should put in a "a CD to install Windows" as step one, step two says I should pick a language, and step 3 says I should click REPAIR.

Then it says if I don't have the CD, I have to contact the producer.
As far as I remember, I didn't get any CD with my Toshiba when I bought it a year or two ago.
All I have is a yellow mini CD that says DRIVER DISK on it.

Does any of you know if a recovery CD comes with Toshiba Satellite A300?
And does anyone know what I should do since I think I don't have it ?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Cannot recover the Satellite A300-1QD (VISTA)

> As far as I remember, I didn't get any CD with my Toshiba when I bought it a year or two ago.

You didn?t get the recovery disk because there was an option to create own recovery disk? you had to read the user manual?
The preinstalled tool called Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator could create a recovery disk?
Now it?s too late? you are not able to start the system?

In such case you have to order the recovery disk;
Here you can do this;

Hi All,
I have just purchased a new Satellite A300 Notebook , pre-loaded with VISTA with XP Downgrade option.

I have completed the VISTA (Setup) and made the recovery DVD's. Now I want to actually downgrade to Windows XP, using the Recovery CD provided with the laptop by Toshiba, but the instructions are vague.
I have tried F12 at bootup and selecting CD/DVD as boot, but it seems to hang on black screen.

There are files on the disk (3.2Gb worth) as I browsed it on another PC. I also tried the System Recovery option at bootup (F8) but it does not determine that the disk is a recovery / backup disk. I do not want to just run a straight XP install from my Volume Licence copy for obvious reasons.

Does anyone have any information / procedure about how to downgrade using the Toshiba supplied CD?

Any help gratefully received.
With Thanks,

Answer:Satellite A300 - Downgrade from Vista to XP

Can you hear that the drive is reading the XP disk if you boot from it? Does the computer hangs on the blank screen or you get an error message?

Can you boot from another disk? Maybe the downgrade is not working properly or it?s a CD/DVD drive issue. Check this!

Sorry but at the moment I can?t say more.

Hi All!

I have question. Can I legaly use cd key of windows vista home premium preinsaled on my Satellite A300-1ED to install a clean oem Windows Vista Home Premium of cause without toshiba, or mcafee software?

Big thanks for answer!!

Answer:Satellite A300-1ED - CD-Key for OEM Vista installation?

You can try to do this but this will not work. This key will not activate your own preinstalled OS.
This product key belongs to recovery image you got with your notebook.

Many people understand this wrong, especially when they sell old notebooks on eBay and wrote: legal production key is on the bottom. And what to do with this key? You cannot do anything with it.

I've got an A300-1ia, and since a week most of the FN function keys won't work anymore.

The utility does not pop-up anymore in XP and Vista.

I have a multiboot system and the problem did apear a week ago.

I think it has to do with some windows update.

Answer:Satellite A300-1IA - FN utlility does not pop-up on both XP and Vista

If you are using the Win XP then I would recommend reinstalling the Common Module.
If you are using the Vista reinstall the VAP (Vista Added Package).

I know that there is a special partition on my hard disc with Vista.

How can i get there. How can i reinstall my windows like in a firs time ?

Thanks a lot

I am waiting for a good feedback !

My laptop is Toshiba Satellite A300 :)

you told me that:

You mean you want to use the HDD recovery option?
If yes then you have to press the F8 buttons while notebook powering up.
Then choose Repair my Computer.
Then a new window will open, here you have to choose the last option called Toshiba Recovery.

BUT i want to completly remove vista and instal it once again from my special partiction with vista on my toshiba like in a first time when you are instaling vista on toshiba

longplej !

Answer:Satellite A300 - How can I reinstall my Vista without CD?

First of all you should not open two threads about one and the same theme!

Secondly the procedure posted in the other thread and in this posting above describes how to install the Vista from the second HDD partition!!!

Press F8, choose repair my computer, choose Toshiba recovery from new opened window and follow the instruction on the screen.

After this procedure you will get the notebook like at the first day of purchase!

I got it with preinstalled vista, and now I formated partition 1, leaving the partition 2 with the toshiba recovery on it.

How can I now get back my original vista on foot?

I tried f12, but it wont run anything when I click HDD

Answer:Satellite A300 cant recover vista

This is not possible mate?
The recovery partition would not help you if you are not able to access this wile booting the notebook.
Usually you should choose F8 and then Repair My Computer.
This should lead you to the option ?Toshiba HDD Recovery? but if you will not be able to get this option then you would not be able to recover the notebook using the HDD partition.

In such case you have to use the recovery disk?

If you don?t have such disk then you need to order this? read some threads here in the forum.

The sound went on my Satellite A300 on control panel etc, sound on full. Playing cd's, no sound, out of headphone nothing, anyway.
I went on control panel, hardware and sound. On the first section, somehow I wiped the Realtek picture, and the speaker picture.

I downloaded the Realtek,, but cant reload it, or the speaker logo?
What do i do to get that back?

What caused the problem in the first place?
Could it have been to do with putting a SKYPE phone on it?

Answer:Satellite A300 Vista - No sound

I must say that your message is really confusing.
I don?t know how someone could wipe the Realtek picture and the speaker picture.

But I will try to help you.
I think you should firstly access the device manger and should remove your sound card from the device list.
Then reboot the notebook and after new reboot try to reinstall the sound driver which you have downloaded from the Toshiba European driver page.

Usually this should help to renew the sound card driver and to get the sound back!

I recently reset my Satellite A300 to its defaults using the HDDRecovery utility. The OS now is Vista Home Premium SP1, but I am not able to update vista drivers or get the upgrade to SP2, so I am struck with my default SP1.

I tried to install upgrades with auto updater, or by manually checking for updates under "Windows Update " options. I got no results with the first method (planned updates dont start at all), while with the second method when i click the "look for updates" button it tells me "unable to check for new updates; ERROR CODE 80072EFE".
So I tried to download official microsoft executable update packages from their download area, but they all fail at installing.
What am I supposed to do?

Thanks in advance, Alessandro

Answer:Satellite A300-1IK - Can't update Vista

Hi caiusteblack,

> So I tried to download official microsoft executable update packages from their download area, but they all fail at installing.
What update pack you have downloaded?

Generally speaking if SP1 is already installed you can start with SP2 installation for Vista but SP1 must be installed firstly. SP2 can be downloaded on official Microsoft website (not Windows Update). Download SP2 and start the installation and check what happens.

But there is a problem, the system does not consistently work as long as one does not hang.
Then the work is stable and reliable.

I'm using Windows Vista.
Loading the latest updates to the operating system, nothing helps.

It relied on your help.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite A300-1OC: Vista hangs sometimes

As I understand your issue; the Vista hangs sometimes but not always.
I mean it?s hard to replicate this issue and the reason. Is it right?

Hmm? did you try to recover the system and to check if this would happen again?
Did you notice an higher temperature while this issue appears?

How about the BIOS update? Do you use the latest BIOS on your notebook?

I think you should check everything what I have mentioned ?

Your Satellite A300 belongs to the PSAJ4E series and on the Toshiba website for this model are not 64bit drivers available.

I think you must search on external websites for the drivers and try to download and install the VAP from an other notebook model.

As far as I know the sound and modem driver you can get from this website:

Have just purchased Satellite A300 with downgrade disk to windows XP. However information to do this is near impossible to follow as it assumes that I am a computer wizard.

I have bak up Vista as asked and then restarted computer whilst holding down F12. Put inthe downgrade disk #1 and from then on it confuses me what to do. This machine is brand new and I have no files to backup, but want to use XP as I am more familiar with that OS.

So can someone guide me through this....... as I am in Australia and most of you people are probably asleep or just waking up, please put down all instructions as I am about to go to sleep as this is giving me a headache. If someone had told me that it was not a simple exercise, I would never had bought the laptop in the first place.

Thanks for any help

Bye now

Answer:Downgrade Vista to Windows XP on Satellite A300

Hi Bushbabe

Yeah, this can be a bit tricky. Here are some easier instructions on how to use the XP Disks. :)

1. Insert xp disk into the disk drive.

2. Hold down the power button on the computer for 10 seconds to completely switch it off.

3. Turn the computer back on and start tapping the F12 key. Keep tapping it until it gives you your boot menu. (Don't hold the power button, only tap it enough to turn on the machine.)

4. Select CD/DVD using the arrow keys on your keyboard, and press enter. Should say "Loading RAM disk image" or something similar.

5. Select Yes on the warning screen (make sure computer is plugged into main power not on battery).

6. Select Next three times.

After this it will say Initializing Partition...this means that the recovery has started. :)

Hope this helps!!

Hi everyone.

My first time and I'm a bit of a duffer with technical stuff, so please be gentle with me!

A300-1BZ with Vista.

A while ago I installed 'CarSoft V.83' (Engine diagnosis) from CD onto my laptop. It asked me to verify the com-port.
I looked in the device manager and in the list I saw 'com-port 4'. Ok, we'll go with that then. Everything worked fine and I was happily talking away to my car.

Yesterday I went to use it for the second time and it said there was an error with the com-port and to 'verify' the com-port.
So, I got the device manager back up and there is no mention of any com-ports in the list! It was there the last time I looked and now it's vanished!

I was at a loss what to do so, I uninstalled the CarSoft and then re-intsalled it again. Got the same error message.
Went to device manager. Still no com-port 4 in the list, or anything that relates to a com-port.

I don't know how or if I can get it back.

Please help!

Answer:Satellite A300-1BZ with Vista - Com Port has disappeared

Hi mate

First of all there are no com ports. The com port which you could see in device manager was an virtual port created by car software.

What to say?
I recommend removing the car software from the system firstly.
Then download the CCleaner and clean the system and registry entries.
Reboot the notebook and run the CCleaner again?
After that install the car software again?

Maybe it helps?

I just bought a Toshiba Satellite A300-1CO Model: PSAJ4E-03R015PT, that came with an awesome feature of 4Gb of ram.
I knew with Vista 32bits only 3gb would be available but since I had a Vista 64bits Licence I didn't care, came home and installed it.
When I searched for drivers on the toshiba website no drivers for Vista 64bits drivers were available!
I have now 4gb or ram available and I also have problems with Face recognition software, microfone, soundcard, card-reader and a couple of other things.

I have looked at the manufactors websites for drivers and I managed to get some of these things barely usable, I do not think this is an aceptable solution.
Other laptop brands have made available ages ago drivers for vista 64bits some of them even for XP 64bits!

I would like to know how long will it take for Toshiba to make available official drivers for 64bits vista on their website.

Best regards, Pedro P.

Answer:Problem with Satellite A300 and Vista 64bits

I was looking for 64bit drivers for my laptop, but since it was a new model, the drivers were not available yet. I checked a couple of weeks later and they were now available.

So just wait a while, they should be available soon.

To avoid such mistakes Toshiba has created one small ?reminder? that will be shown on the screen very often and I really do not understand why you didn?t read this and take it serious.
Anyway, if you have installed own Vista please visit Toshiba support page under > Support & Downloads. There you can find all you need. Just choose your notebook model.

Before you start installation check if there is listed ?Installations Instructions? document. If yes, please check it out and install all stuff following this installations order.

I have seen absolutely no instructions on how to do this. That is, how to downgrade to XP?
The A300 came with Recovery Disk 1 and 2 (which say "Windows XP Professional").

If I boot from disk 1, I get two options:

(a). Recover computer to "out of box" state.
(b). Erase all contents of harddrive.

There is no option to change OS to winXP. Do I have to do (b) before I can rollback to XP?

It must be easy to do. Some simple steps would be great.

Answer:Satellite Pro A300: How to rollback to XP from Vista Business

If the Recovery Disc says "Windows XP", then all you need to do is boot the CD and choose "Out of box state". This will wipe the HDD and install XP.

Remember that this will wipe Vista. If you want Vista back, you need to create Vista Recovery Discs first. There should be an "Create Recovery Discs" Icon on the Desktop in Vista.

Hi all...

I'm asking for your support for a strange kind of problem that afflicts my *a300-1mz* since first day.
*The booting of the O.S*.(windows vista home edition) *is too long* for my patience. *Its duration* is more than *2min,30sec*.
Incredible for a dual core2duo and 4gb ram.

The screen *"please wait"* stays for most of the time.

I use always the hibernation function but sometimes I need to reboot and its duration is too long.
I'm asking you for a solution.

Answer:Satellite A300-1mz boot Vista too long

I advise you to check programs and utilities in startup option. You can start this typing in RUN ?msconfig?.

As I now Tempro utility (Fingerprint utility if available)takes pretty much time as it scans for update

2. Defragment your drive with any defragmentator like Diskeeper, Raxco Perfect disk, clean the whole system (registry, remove duplicated folders) with program like Winutility, Tuneup

It looks like something wrong with hard drive. I recommend you to format the hard drive with programs like Partition magic, Arcoins Disk Manager. You should make a bootable cd disk and boot from it to format the hdd before Vista installation. By the way, have you formatted partition during Vita installation? There is an option to format the selected partition during windows installation. You see, I met some users that tried to install windows without formatting the selected partition.

6)machine will now not shut down or respond unless power button held down for an age

I've re-installed windows Vista which appeared to fix the issue last night but when using this morning same sequence happened.

I've ran the disk check from F8 and a systems restore

Any Ideas???

If this issue occurs with clean preinstalled Vista (Toshiba recovery image) I am afraid it is some hardware problem. Sorry but it is not easy to give exact explanation.

You can try to test it again with clean preinstalled Vista and if this occurs again contact nearest authorized service provider and let technicians check your notebook.

Dear All,

Please tell me can I install Windows XP on my Latop with existing Vista home edition.
I want both OS simultaneously like Dual Boot.

Can anybody explain the process how can I do this. Also please tell me installing another OS, would it effect on my warranty?

Answer:Satellite A300-1PH - I want to install WXP behind my existing Vista

The new OS installation will not affect the warranty.

I installed Win XP on my notebook as well.
Now I?m using Vista and Win XP but I will get rid of Vista because I like Win 7 :)

How I did it:
I created a new partition using Vista. In disk management you can decrease one partition and the free space can be used for new partition.
Then I created a Win XP with SATA drivers (I used nLite) and installed the Win XP on the free partition.
Then I could boot only Win XP but I was not able to boot Vista because the vista boot manager was damaged by Win XP.

Well, I took the Win Vista disk (not recover disk but original!!! MS Vista disk) and booted from this disk. The Vista disk repaired the boot manager and I was able to boot into Vista but Win XP option was not there :(

I searched a little bit and found a free tool called EasyBCD. I installed this tool in Vista OS and this tool was helpful to create an Win XP entry in Vista boot manager.

So finally I could use Vista boot manager and this boot manger contains Vista and Win XP.

Hope this helps!

I have a Toshiba Satellite A300 1B9 which I bought 9 months ago. It has Vista Home Premium SP1 32 bit. I have some serious problems with the updates:

1. Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847) x86 - I cannot install this for last couple of months. Every time it shows that installation failed.

2. Security Update for Windows Vista (KB961501) cannot be installed as well

3. My Internet Explorer 8 is not working for last couple of weeks. I tried to download it and when I did it then my computer does not reboot. I had to start in in Safe Mode, uninstall IE8 to get back into the Normal Mode

4. I also tried to download and install Vista SP2 but it was not successful.

I am very much worried. Please suggest me what I should do.

Thanks for your helps.

Answer:Re: Satellite A300-1B9 - Can't install Vista updates and IE8

> I also tried to download and install Vista SP2 but it was not successful.
And what does happen exactly? Why you can?t install it?

Yesterday I have installed SP2 on my Toshiba notebook with Vista and I didn?t have any problems.
Before you install SP2 you should disable the antivirus and firewall. Furthermore close all running application and you should do this with other updates too.

Are you running the factory settings or have you installed your own Windows version? Maybe you have installed a driver or software that is not compatible to the updates to try it with factory settings.

Why you didn?t create a Toshiba recovery DVD at the beginning???

I think there is info in the user manual and some notification that the recovery HDD image should be burned on the DVD using the Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator.

I?m not sure if you will be able to reinstall the Vista now without purchasing the Recovery DVD.

Try to boot the notebook and press the F8 button. Usually an boot menu should appear providing some options. The first option called ?Repair my Computer? would allow you to reinstall the Vista. But I doubt this option is available now after the XP installation!!!

Therefore you last chance would be a recovery DVD which you can purchase from here:

Hi everybody, I have recently purchased a Satellite A300 pre loaded with Vista just before Christmas.

I too have a Satallite A300 PSAG0A which is freezing in Vista Home Premium. It varies between 30 secs and a couple of hours before it can lock up but it has been getting worse over time. Virus scanning shows a clean system from multiple vendor scans but it's hard to get them to complete now due to the freezes. I am attempting a factory reset with the recovery CD's, failing that I will have to take it back for a warranty check. If anyone knows of a driver that needs updating or what may be causing this please advise.

I bought this laptop October 2008 and I have reinstalled Vista 3 o 4 times.

What can I do?

Answer:Re: Satellite A300 - Windows Vista hang on - what can I do?

You mean the Vista does not response after couple of time?
Well buddy, this can be an software issue.

I mean there are no ?magic? solutions for such issues? I assume you have installed and used many different applications on this notebook.
It could be possible that one of the applications causes this issue?
It could be also possible that the registry entries and some system files have been changed during the Microsoft updates?

In my opinion you should use some cleaning tools like for example the CCLeaner.
It?s free tool and it cleans your registry and other files?

You should also check the applications which are running while the system would start to hang up?
Last but not least I recommend checking the memory? you could run an memory test (, in order to find out some memory issues?.

Good luck

I have just bought the notebook satellite A300-IH , but this computer is very slow to load vista home premium.
When i turn on my pc i must attend about 3-4 minutes before i can use pc.

Do you know why you Vista load slowly?
It boots up slowly because of the high amount of background process which load at the beginning too.

All the preinstalled Toshiba tools and utilities are running in the background and they need to be loaded at the beginning to ensure that all features would functions properly.

If you want you can check the msconfig ?startup? tab and there you will find all applications which are running in the operating system background.
If you want you can disable some but don?t wonder if some functions will not work.

Last but not least an Antivirus program could extend the booting time

Hi to everyone,

I bought an A300-149 with pre-installed Vista.
A friend of mine told me, the partition that was used to install Vista is not useful anymore, it consumes space from my HDD, so I deleted the partition, and rearranged the partitions as I was going to use them.

I just found out it was a big mistake to do so, because the partition contained all the drivers and the Vista with the license key.
Do I lose the license of my Windows if I will have to eventually reinstall it? (I have the label on the bottom of the computer with the key...)
Can't I download the content of that partition (in the form of an ISO) from somewhere this site? (and use the key from the label, like it is usually done with software)

I payed for this operating I don't get it why haven't I received a DVD with the software? (When I opened the box, I was looking for the DVD and I was wandering why is it missing...)
It is frustrating...

Waiting your answers,

Answer:Satellite A300 - question about Vista License Key

The disc is not bundled in the box anymore. The Recovery Disc needs to be created after the laptop is purchased.

The Vista License that comes with the laptop is a Toshiba OEM license, so you cannot use that license with a retail/downloaded version of Vista.

Your best option would be to purchase a replacement Recovery Disc from Toshiba
You can order the disc from here:

Hello there!

I've searched this forum to see if my problem was already posed and answered but I couldn't find any relevant information, so here it is:

I have a Satellite A300-1JH (short name PSAGLE) and till now I?ve used it with XP SP3 and everything worked perfectly. But now I installed Vista 64-Bit and there are many features which don't work, because there are EXTREMELY few drivers available for the 64-Bit version of Vista.

The problems I hate the most are: turning on/off the touchpad and making the multimedia buttons work (however, they are lit up - I changed the LED setting in BIOS, but they don't do anything).
And another question: to install XP I changed the hard drive in BIOS from AHCI (or A*** - something) to "Compatibility, and now I forgot about it and installed Vista on the compatible mode.

When I tried to change it to AHCI (or whatever) Vista didn't work anymore. What is the difference between the compatible mode and the A*** mode and does it have a negative influence on my computer if I use it under compatible mode?

I hope you'll reply :).

Answer:Satellite A300-1JH - Can Vista run on "Compatibility" mode?

Looking at the download page it appears that Vista 64 isn't very well supported for your laptop model.
As for AHCI have a read at:
I suspect Vista fails to boot in normal mode because it's missing the RAID drivers for the SATA controller.

I have already bought a Satellite A300 with vista SP1 Premium. Then I installed ubuntu on my computer.
Unfortunately now my Vista doesn't work. There was not any recovery CD/DVD with pc.

I was search for recovering my system but I didn?t find anything. Only maybe my system has OEM ??? then it doesn't need to recovery CD/DVD... but I don't know what I must do.....

Please help me!!!

Answer:Recovering a OEM vista system on a Satellite A300

Hi there,

did you formatted the WHOLE harddisk?? If yes then you have to obtain a recovery media from toshiba because there is no way if the HDD was formatted to bring your Vista back.

You must know that your machine was equipped with a HDD recovery which is stored on a hidden partition on your harddisk drive.
Such a HDD recovery can be activated by pressing F8 before Vista starts up and then choosing something like "Repair system" or similar. The Recovey will completely erase your C: drive and put a new Vista with everything on factory defaults on the system drive,

USUALLY the user must create a recovery disk from this recovery partition which is done by a program called "Recovery disk creator". This application is already installed on every machine with such a HDD recovery and you will get a reminder after starting Vista for the first time to create such a recovery to secure yourself in a case of a harddisk failure. Since you didn´t created and just formatted everything (like ubuntu does) it´s your own fault and you will have to purchase a new disk.

Please refer to an ASP (authorized service partner) in your country and ask them for a recovery.

How can I repair it? What can I do?
How can I reinstall Vista? Is there any option in the computer to repair or reinstall?

When notebook starts press F8 and try to start it in SAFE MODE. When Vista starts roll back operating system to earlier time using System restore tool.
Please let me know if this works well. If not I will explain you how to install Vista again.

Answer:Satellite A300 - How to recover Vista after XP installation?

After installation of another OS you can only recover Vista if you boot from the Toshiba recovery disk and install the content. There is no HDD recovery option anymore, that means the HDD recovery partition will not help you.
Furthermore the Windows RE partition has nothing to do with Toshiba, it?s a Vista feature.

So boot from Toshiba recovery disk and you will get factory settings back! ;)

I think this was a big warning for you? you should not install anything before you have created the Recovery disk buddy!!
The Recovery disk essential and this should be done at first step.

Usually if the F8 option would not work then you should not be able to restore the notebook back to the factory settings but I found very interesting thread posted here in the forum and maybe it would be your last resort.

There you can find a interesting workaround.

Hi all ...
Im planning to get rid of my windows Vista SP2 (32-bit) and have XP SP3 (32-bit). My laptop is : [Satellite A300-1G5|].

Now I researched the topic before posting. when first time I tried installing XP the laptop didnt recognize the OS CD and I failed. Later on, I found a topic suggesting to go through the BIOS and change the HHD mode from ACHI to Compatibility, so I did, and it works but I didnt install yet. I have some question regrading this process.

1. after I install the XP, can I put back the ACHI mode ? does give me a better performance (I really dont know what is ACHI!)
2. will this void my warranty ?

> 1. after I install the XP, can I put back the ACHI mode ? does give me a better performance (I really dont know what is ACHI!)
No, you can?t change to *AHCI* back if you have installed Windows XP in compatible mode.
Some users have reported that the AHCI mode is faster then the compatible mode. I don?t have a comparison between these modes because I always used the AHCI mode.
This option is available on all notebooks with SATA HDD.

> 2. will this void my warranty ?
No! You can set the AHCI or compatible but nothing affects the warranty of the notebook.

> 3. If i had a problem, XP installing failed for some reason and no OS on my laptop , will still be able to use the recovery DVD to restore my laptop?
Yes, you can restore your notebook with the recovery disk. The Toshiba recovery disk contains an image of the ?factory settings?. That means the preinstalled Windows Vista with all drivers and tools or let?s say the same settings as you have started the notebook the first time. You can use the recovery disk every time. You must only boot from it and follow the screen instructions.

About your question to the drivers I can only say I assume that some software applications like DVD player are only designed for Vista. These are only applications and not necessary. The notebook is delivered and designed for Vista and so you will not find all applications.
I have checked the Toshiba website and there I have founded all necessary drivers and to... Read more

I just bought a Satellite A300 with following details:

Satellite A300/Y00 model (exclusive to Dikc Smith Electronics in Australia)
2.1Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo T8100
2Gb RAM DDR2 (667MHz)
Intel Graphics X3100 (GM965)
MS Windows Vista Business pre installed
MS WIndows XP downgrade recovery media for A300 on disc

I have basically just turned it on and set everything up, nothing done on it yet, not even any other software installed.
I have immediately made 2 copies of the product recovery media for Vista. So both XP and Vista discs should have all drivers on them.

I want to install a particular software (for programming of electronic parts) but the company says it is not yet fully compatible with Vista. Thus I wish to downgrade to XP and use that for 6 to 12 months, then later on POSSIBLY revert back to Vista.

Now, the information provided by Toshiba is limited with respect to downgrading to XP. (And there is absolutely nothing about reverting back to Vista.)
The documentation provided shows four options when downgrading:
1) Recover to out-of-box-state,
2) Recover to the Windows only state,
3) Recover without changing the hard drive partitions,
4) Recover to a custom size partition. It then goes on to say "Please do not select 'Recover without changing the hard drive partitions' as a recovery method. Windows XP cannot be used by the partition composition of Windows Vista".

Answer:Satellite A300 PSAG0A: Vista to XP downgrade question

Hi Robert

I don?t have the A300 Satellite and I don?t have a Australian notebook but I?m an owner of another Satellite European model with preinstalled Vista OS!
Anyway, I would like to share my experience with Vista and XP and of course with the recovery procedure on E?

First of all I have noticed that newer notebook series are not delivered with the Toshiba recovery CD but the recovery image is store on the HDD and you could create and burn the image the own DVD.
Seems you have already done it.

As you already suggested the Vista supports 2 different partitions. One partition is the system partition and the other, smaller, hidden partition was created for the Vista backup files. So if something will go wrong with your Vista OS, you could use the Vista repair function to repair the OS. In such case the small, hidden backup partitions in needed.

I like Xp too and therefore I have installed it on my notebook. I didn?t format the HDD but installed the XP on a new created partition.
You can create a partition in Vista?s disk management.
Anyway, I?ve got a dual boot OS now and I can use Vista and XP.

Regarding the usage of the Vista recovery DVD;
If you would like to go back to Vista, you will need to boot from the Toshiba Recovery CD and the Vista installation procedure should start.
But you should know that the Vista Recovery CD would format the whole HDD.
So it would erase the partitions and would delete the stored data.
Therefore you should backup you... Read more

The Sat A300 and other newer notebook models are equipped with the HDD Recovery option. This HDD recovery should allow you to recover the notebook without the usage of any disks.
In order to start the HDD recovery procedure you will have to press F8. Then choose the first option called ?Repair my Computer?. Then new window will appear and there you have to choose Toshiba HDD recovery. That?s all.

But if this procedure wouldn?t work (no matter why) then you will have to use the Toshiba Recovery disk. If you didn?t create a recovery disk firstly and the notebook will not boot up then you will need to buy a Recovery disk from this page:

I have read the threads that already exist, before anyone pounces with the obvious, however I don't see the answers to my specific questions, so I hope that someone can help.

Basically, my A300 was regularly overheating and turning off, and after a recent instance of this, I part disassembled it and cleaned the heatsink and surround thoroughly.

Unfortunately, on re-assembly, it became evident that Windows would not boot, presumably either due to some issue caused by the most recent power cut, or maybe even as part of my very careful disassembly??

Anyway, Vista will not boot, in any mode, either standard, in safe mode or in repair mode. As stadard, it blue screens with an error message UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME etc.

In repair mode, the windows logo and green bar comes up, but then it simply black screens and no more. The only slight variation I have had here is that sometimes a white cursor comes up, but still a black screen. I have left the machine for 30 minutes in case there was a simple delay, but no... nothing happens, it just hangs.

I have no recovery CD, because I didn't create one, however I have been able to access all the files through the Knoppix platform, and everything appears in order, so major HDD corruption seems unlikely.

I can see the folders for Toshiba HDD recover and also Windows RE, so my question to you people is this; Is there a way that I can use these files that are still in tact to recover Vista without purchasing a disk for 30 pounds... Read more

Answer:Satellite A300-1J1 - How to use HDD recovery files to install Vista again

Unfortunately I think there is nothing what you can do because the files are useless if HDD recovery doesn?t work because you must be able to access the advanced boot menu of Windows.

I agree with you it?s not good that HDD recovery from Toshiba doesn?t work for you but you must also understand it?s your fault that you didn?t create the recovery disk as mentioned in user manual. ;)

So either you purchase a new recovery disk or you use a Microsoft Windows disk to reinstall Windows. All drivers and tools you can download on Toshiba page.

What you need is WXP SP2 or SP3 disc and SATA driver. Without SATA driver HDD will not be ?visible? for WXP.

Before I start to explain how it works I must say follow: before you do anything CREATE recovery DVD using Toshiba recovery disc creator. Don't forget it.
Using this DVD you will be able to install Vista and have ?factory settings? again.

When you start WXP installation all three partitions will be listed and you can choose destination for WXP installation. If you choose partition C other two will not be deleted.
Later, when you want to install Vista using created recovery DVD whole HDD will be deleted and formatted.

Well, of course you can install the Vista 64bit. You can also install W2k or WinME? you can install everything but the question is if you will be able to find the drivers.

The point is that this is a new notebook series at this time and I think the Vista 64bit derivers will be published in the next time?
So either you will wait till such drivers will be available on the Toshiba website or you will try to collect the drivers and the own hand.

This was a big mistake buddy?
The recovery disk was not shipped with the notebook because there was an preinstalled tool called Toshiba recovery disk creator which allows you to create an own recovery disk.
But this is not possible since the HDD has been formatted and all files have been deleted.

Now you would not be able to recover the unit even using the HDD recovery since the files are not available on HDD.

You need a recovery disk and you can order it from here:

Initially, using Vista wasn't too bad, but it's getting to a point now where its slowing things down and is getting really frustrating. So i'd like to downgrade (/upgrade) back to Windows XP and would like to know the 'implications' of this and whether the Toshiba utilities are compatible with and will work with XP.

Firstly, can I use my current product ID which came with Vista, and enter this as the product ID when i install XP?

Also, I'm concerned about the Wi-fi, bluetooth, finger scan, and HDMI applications - will these work with XP?

Lastly, when I create the 'Recovery Disk', should anything go 'wrong' during the installation of XP or if something doesn't work, can i just use this recovery disk to revert to the original 'out of the box' setup?

Thanks in advance and again, apologies if these qns have already been answered in other posts (im not overly technical)!

In many cases all such questions have been answered already and you could find useful postings using the advanced search option ;)

Vista drivers and tools are not compatible with Win XP. If you want to install Win XP and would like to use all the notebook features then you should ensure that Win XP drivers are available for this notebook model.

Satellite A300 PSAGCA seems to be an Australian model. The drivers are placed here:

I checked this and found some tools and drivers for this unit.

No, you cannot use it because it belongs to the Vista OS preinstalled on your notebook.

Yes, the recovery disk helps you to reverse the notebook back to factory settings.
You will get the same like at the first day of purchase?
