I have two original recovery DVD's from Toshiba with my P300-18M laptop.

Do I still need the HDD recovery image on my labtop drive F: ???

Can I use that disk space for other issues

Preferred Solution: Satellite P300-18M: Do I need HDD recovery image if I have Recovery DVD

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite P300-18M: Do I need HDD recovery image if I have Recovery DVD

If you have crated the Toshiba recovery DVD and if it?s working properly then you don?t need the recovery image on the HDD because you could reinstall the OS using the created DVD.

I have never had some many issues with a single laptop in all my working life. I'm just about ready to throw this thing out of the window. I have a Sat pro p300-1EX.

I wanted to do a fresh os install just to make things a bit faster for the client, this was 8 hours ago.

I firstly installed an OEM version of Windows Home Pre 32b. Then saw that the CD would not work.

So, ok - I will restore to factory defaults:

1) There is no repair link when starting and pressing F8
2) There is no HDD untilty when pressing 0 - that does nothing
3) There is no Recovery console, when putting in a OEM version of windows vista
4) I try to download the bloody software Recovery Disk Creator, and get this - it does not work. It creates a short cut to a file that is not even there. TRDCLcher.exe , can you, im speechless.

So now, I have to spend ?30 of my own money getting a disk sent to me?? I dont think so.

So, what can I do please? This has been a horrible experience. Nothing works. The recovery partition, as far as I can see is still in tact, its just like the laptop does not recognise it. Instealing the OEM removed all the default tools, but I CANNOT DOWNLOAD THEM.

Please, please help me.

Answer:Cannot install recovery image on Satelite Pro P300-1EX

Maybe it sounds stupid now but the whole thing is quite simply.

Here is my explanation how it works:
Since almost 4 or 5 years Toshiba offers notebooks without recovery DVDs but with recovery image saved on HDD. As far as I know on older Satellite/Satellite Pro P300 recovery image was saved on second HDD partition in folder called ?HDDRecvery?. This notebook model was delivered with Windows Vista.

As you know original recovery image can be installed n two ways:
-You can use HDD recovery installation method -
-You can use created recovery DVD disc

HDD recovery installation can be done if notebook has ?factory settings? only. In this case in ?Advanced boot options? (F8) you will have option ?Repair my computer?. If the notebk was installed with own OS version or any other operating system this option will NOT be available anymore. Due to this Toshiba has preinstalled small ?reminder? with message for notebooks owners to create recovery DVD.

Your questions:
> There is no repair link when starting and pressing F8
If this notebook doesn?t have ?factory settings? it will not be listed in advanced boot options
> There is no HDD untilty when pressing 0 - that does nothing
If you have European notebook model this with ?zero? will not work. It works with US and Austraian notebooks only.

Hi there

I Have just recovered my Satellite P300-20H, using the HDD Recovery,

Any ideas as to what I should do now? Laptop backed up, HDD Recovery has wiped and returned laptop to factory default. What should I do now? I have never wiped a laptop or PC before. I have done the recovery through the HDD and all is back to when I first got the laptop nearly 2 years ago but now I have 108 windows updates, and my Toshiba Tempro isnt working.
Do I need to update any drivers on the laptop and if so how do I know what needs to be and updated and how do I do that?

I went on the Toshiba website and it has given me a list of the updated drivers for my particular model but I'm just not sure how many of these driver updates I need to actually download and update.

If anyone could help me out it would really be appreciated.
I would love if someone could just explain to me, as I know nothing about pc/laptops and just want to get my laptop back up to current. So that everything works correctly. I read in the drivers section, on that not all windows service packs should be downloaded as not all work along side the Toshiba laptops. So im stuck if I should download and install the 108 Windows updates that are needed to be installed also.

Hope someone can help me out.

Many thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite P300-20H - What should I do after HDD recovery?

I?m wondering about your question: It seems that you have done the HDD recovery but you didn?t know what HDD recovery does? Right?
As you have noticed, it will restore your computer back to factory settings. You have the same settings as you purchased it. So this is useful if Windows doesn?t start anymore or you want to reinstall Windows.

You can use your notebook as before: There is no difference. All Windows updates should be installed, that?s very important because they are security updates and helps to protect your computer. So start Windows updates and follow the installation.

Driver updates from Toshiba website are not important, only when you notice some problems. If not you can forget the driver updates. ;)

Is it possible to perform recovery of factory default software or recovery to out-of-box state for my laptop ? Satellite P300-1GQ?

I?ve used Toshiba HDD Recovery Tool and it only formatted the C partition leaving the partition D unchanged. Vista is running smoothly, all data on D partition are available. I could just format the partition D but the catch is that the folder titled ?HDD recovery? is stored on D partition. Back in 2009 when I purchased my laptop I created the HDD Recovery DVD?s as instructed. I could use them and format the entire hard disk but the information I got from the support technician in my country told me that the new ?HDD recovery? folder would not be created.

I just want to wipe the entire drive and perform fresh installation, having again ?HDD recovery? folder on D partition of the disk, in short: as it is now. Is this possible or not?

Answer:HDD Recovery - Satellite P300-1GQ

> Is it possible to perform recovery of factory default software or recovery to out-of-box state for my laptop ? Satellite P300-1GQ?

It is possible:
Either by doing a HDD recovery or using Recovery disk

As far as I know using Recovery disk the whole HDD would be formatted and would be set back to the same state like at the first day of purchase? this would mean that HDD recovery folder and HDD recovery option should be available even if using the Recovery disk!

Well, now I can explain my problem a lil' better. When I boot my comp and press F8 -> "Repair My Computer" -> "HDD Recovery" -> then this message poof up:

"Can not find the folder for the hard drive recovery on the second drive of the first hard disk.
There is not an environment for hard drive recovery on the computer.""

Anyone who can tell me how to fix it?

Answer:Satellite P300-1A2: Cannot boot using HDD Recovery

Did you try this process several times? Does this message appear always?

Possibly the HDD recovery partition has been deleted, changed or it?s corrupt?
This is only plausible explanation why this message appears.

If you are able to boot the Windows then I would recommend checking if it?s possible to create the own recovery disk using the Toshiba recovery disk creator.

If this would be not possible then this means that there is something wrong with the HDD recovery partition and therefore you are not able to use the HDD recovery and are not able to create recovery disk.

I have just bought a Satellite Pro P300-19Q with Vista pre-installed. I wish to use Windows XP professional instead and understand that I have to use the DVD headed 'Product Recovery - Microsoft Windows XP Professional' that came with the machine. To do this, however, the information sheet supplied is not very helpful when it just says "you will need to load this..."

My question is: how I go about doing this since running the disc in the DVD player just reveals several files none of which get me anywhere?

Any help would be gratefully received.

Answer:How to use Windows XP recovery with my new Satellite Pro P300-19Q?

The Windows XP Product Recovery disk contains image of a ready Windows XP installation with all drivers and tools.

Before you install Windows XP you should burn the Vista recovery disk because if you want a rollback to Windows Vista you will need this disk. So you can restore the computer to the state it was in when you originally received it.
At the moment the recovery image (Vista) is only stored on the HDD and so you can burn it on a DVD:
Click on the Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator and insert a blank DVD. Then follow the instructions on the screen. The recovery disk will be created.
Now you are able to boot from this DVD and install Vista with all drivers and tools (factory settings).

When you reinstall Windows with a recovery disk, the HDD will be reformatted and all data will be lost. That means also other partitions so backup your data first.

If you use Vista it?s also able to restore the factory settings from the HDD. Therefore the files are stored in the ?HDDRecovery? folder.
So if you want to start your laptop press F8. Then you can see the advanced boot options menu and there select Repair Your Computer.
Follow the instructions on the screen and the laptop will also reinstall.
But remember, this feature (HDD recovery) is only available with Vista, not XP.

So and if you did understand this and burned the Vista recovery disk you can begin to install Windows XP.
Boot from the XP recovery disk and follow the instructions on the screen. The ins... Read more

Hi all,

I want to do a Toshiba Product Recovery, using the partition on the HDD. I've done it before, and no problems.

But when I press F8 --> Repair Computer --> selecting language --> Then I have to select a user (Administrator/My name/Guest) When I select Administrator it says that my account has been deactivated, when I select the user with my name (Kenneth) it continues to the menu where I can select the various options for the recovery. If I select the Toshiba Product blah blah thingy a screen comes up saying that it can't find HDD 01. I haven't done anything with the partition containing Vista.

My guess is that I need to login as administrator, which is impossible. My user account in Vista is an administrator,

Can someone please help?

I'm using a P300

Hi there,

I have this Stellite-P300-1H8 which had a bad HDD crash a few days ago.
The main "System" partition was so badly affected my desktop detected it as RAW, not NTFS.
I bought a new HDD and managed to clone the contents (some sectors were faulty), now I have two options at startup:
- Start windows the normal way, which ends up with a reboot!
- Recover, which ends up with a nice dialog box telling me the recovery program failed to start...
I feel stuck and I would like to keep using the original copy of Vista that's on this harddisk, what can I do?

Hi everybody,

Yesterday I bought a toshiba Satellite P300-1CI, when I started, I must installed Vista home.
I would like to format my disk and reinstall my old Windows XP.

My question is : How can keep an image disk with Vista? I don't have an installation disk of Vista and don't know my registration key of it.
How can I have a recovery disk ?

Can you help me please.

PS : Sorry for my english

Answer:How can I get a recovery disk for Satellite P300-1CI?

Hi mate

User manual is really interesting document and in most cases it answer all you questions ;)

Anyway, the Toshiba recovery disk should be created before you would format and install on the HDD.
You have to use the preinstalled Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator application in order to create the Recovery DVD.

Now to you other question;
The Vista image which is preinstalled and placed on the Recovery disk (after recovery disk has been created) is activated already and you don?t need to insert any keys or activate anything.

You can create a recovery disk using the Toshiba Recovery disk Creator!
This tool would use the files and image which is stored on the HDD and would create the Recovery DVD.

Do you have found this Toshiba Recovery disk Creator on your notebook?

PS: Did you read the user manual?
There are some interesting infos regarding the Recovery disk and how to handle it!

Hi there,

Been having lot's of problems on this machine. It started with a nearly full C: partition which made Vista invoke a drive compression.

After that the laptop would not boot; after POST there was just a blank screen (no flashing cursor). The tap 'F8' solution from the manual would not work.

With no booting system, i tried using a Vista recovery CD. But this would not even boot, even after setting BIOS to boot from CD first, or even using the F12 boot selection screen.

I had to physically remove the hard drive from the laptop to get the CD to boot. But obviously couldn't do much after that. At this point i'm thinking that the hard drive compress utility had corrupted the boot sector.

So i connected the Hard drive to a desktop PC, Backed up all 3 partitions (1 hidden plus C: 'Vista' and D: which held the HDDRecovery files)

I then tried formatting then drive and reinstating the partitions. This is the point i'm having problems with.

I used Boot-us software to make the first partition hidden which is what it was. Hidden. Plus i left it without assigning a drive letter.

On the second partition i used windows backup to restore the C: drive, this software didn't restore all files by the way it left out important ones such as Winload.exe, which is why i had to do a factory restore.

On the third partition i restored the 'HDDRecovery' folder.

Now after editing the BCD file i was able to enter the Toshiba recovery environment from a bootable CD tha... Read more

Hi, mate

Unfortunately, I don't think you can recover the factory settings even having Hdd recovery folder. I had the same situation like you. i wanted to install Windows Xp on my A500 and didn't make a recovery disk. So, the factory settings gone and no recovery disk was available. I didn't want to pay money for a recovery disk. I just got windows 7 copy disk, installed it with all drivers and application I need. Then, made a hdd image of my current Os with acronis true image, created a recovery zone and that's all. Now, if I want to restore Os, i just press f11 on startup, enter acronis and it restores from Hdd image. It takes me 10 minutes to wait..

My Toshiba P300 150 was delivered today and I have mess things up. I put a Toshiba P200 Product Recovery in the P300. I am not able to get to the desktop because everything was erased when I put the P200 Product Recovery Disc in the new laptop.

I am not able to get the Product Recovery from Toshiba until January 7 because the site is down.

I am so desperate, so if anyone has the same laptop, I would be so grateful if you would be able to make a copy of the Product Recovery, just email me if you are able to help.

Why did you insert the recovery disk from a P200 notebook? When you get a Toshiba notebook it?s all preinstalled ? Windows, drivers and tools.

It?s a user to user forum and I think it?s not allowed to copy such disks. ;)

But you can also get a new disc from an ASP (authorized service provider). Here you can search for one: => Support & Downloads => Find an ASP

I recently bought a new notebook from Toshiba, the Satellite P300. It has Vista installed out of the box but there is no recovery media included with the package. I'm worried that if something might go wrong in the future, I won't be able to repair my operating system.

Two questions:
1) Is it normal that there is no recovery disc included with the Satellite P300? In other words, other customers who have bought the same laptop don't have this either. Or is this an exception and a mistake of my local vendor. In the manual on the 'included in this package' list there is no mention of a recovery disc included with the package.

2) Can I get a recovery disk from Toshiba if something goes wrong?

Answer:No recovery disks included with my Satellite P300

> Is it normal that there is no recovery disc included with the Satellite P300?
Yes, because the notebook was equipped with the HDD recovery option which allows you to recover the notebook from the HDD.

> Can I get a recovery disk from Toshiba if something goes wrong?
There is preinstalled Toshiba Recovery disk creator software.
This software creates a Toshiba recovery DVD. I think this info was published in the user manual which should be preinstalled on your notebook.

So I would strongly recommend reading the user manual and to create such recovery DVD before you would change anything on the notebook.

Cheers mate

On my Satellite Pro P300 there are two harddisks, both 160 GB.
At the moment Windows Vista Business is installed, as it was preinstalled.
On the first disk there are 3 partitions, one EISA-partition, one Vista boot-partition and one partition for HHDRecovery (contains image for Vista Product Recovery).

In Vista there is an option for Complete PC Backup. This provides the possibility to completely restore Vista to the situation at the time of the backup.
I made a Full PC Backup of the complete first hard drive (3 partitions) and saved it on the second harddrive.

Now I want to use the provided Toshiba Product Recovery for Windows XP to install Windows XP on the laptop.
I assume that the first harddrive will be completely overwritten, but I am not sure if the second drive will also be overwritten.
Does anybody know if my data on the second drive will be lost when i use the Product Recovery for XP?

I would like to preserve the data on the second drive, because it gives me the option to restore the laptop to the situation with Vista without reinstalling/activating all applications.
Also all my personal files are on that drive.

What notebook model you have exactly?

Normally you can start from Toshiba recovery disk if you enter the BIOS boot menu and select CD/DVD drive as boot device. Then press ENTER and the computer will boot from the disk. The key combinations that you mentioned like F8, c, etc. doesn?t work, they are for HDD recovery.

Sorry for my question but what do you want to do exactly?
Do you want to recover the notebook using the Recovery disk or do you want to create an recovery disk?

The Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator creates the Recovery disk using the files from the HDD recovery folder which is placed on the second partition.

If you want to recover the notebook then you have simply boot from the recovery disk.

Hi, (I'm french, well, sorry for english grammary mistakes)

Hem hem, now I would like to (reformater ?) reboot my computer to make it clear in all my HD, programs, docs and else...
I bought Yesterday an external HD (1To) and I would like to create the famous recovery file in my new product...

Is it possible ? How can I do that ?

Answer:Satellite P300-1GL - How to make a HDD recovery file?

You can use the Toshiba recovery disk creator to create a Toshiba recovery disk. This disk contains an image of ?factory settings? from the notebook. That means the same settings as you have started the notebook the first time. Just boot from the disk and follow the screen instructions ? That?s all! But this disk contains only Windows, drivers and tools from Toshiba. No programs or others that you have installed by yourself. I would recommend trying again to create this disk. I can recommend Verbatim DVD-R disks for this.

If you want an image about your current state with all settings, documents, etc. you have to use a special image software like Acronis True Image or Norton Ghost.

Good morning,

During reinstall Windows Vista Home I am not able to use *settings* options. Please see the picture:
There is only one possibility to install Vista on 153 GB partition - only with format HDD and make new partitions.
Beacause I have made my own partitions, I do not whant to delete them, also it is important to save the data.

Please inform me how to active the settings.
I know it is possible - I use also Satellite P100-387. Using Recoevery Disc the Settings button is avaiable.

The recovery procedure will format the HDD and will erase everything from the HDD.
It?s not possible to change the settings and to recover the OS only on one certain partition.

The early Recovery procedure containing the Win XP was different and it was possible to recover only one partition but not using the Vista.

I lost the product recovery disk for my P100, but I do have the disks for a P30 and P300, both of which are windows XP.

My P100 which my husband uses has become so slow that I feel I have to reload it. But when I tried starting up holding 0, F8 and F12 (one of them gave me a menu, I forget which), I couldn't find an option which allowed it to return to factory settings.

So I wonder if I can use one of the other product recovery disks on the P100? Would really appreciate advice. (I used to own a P30, and I still own a P300)

Answer:Can I use product recovery for Satellite P300 on Satellite P100?

Every single recovery image is designed for certain notebook model. Why?
Every notebook model has specific hardware infrastructure and also specific drivers are needed.

When you compare two different notebooks there are different CPUs, graphic card, modem, cam maybe and so on. So if you want to have properly working OS this will not work.

Hi Folks

Did you try to flash the BIOS within the Windows OS?

The BIOS is win-based and you could flash the ROM module using the win based BIOS version.

For that you need an installed Windows OS.

Found a very interesting HowTo doc about the BIOS update.

Uninstall the older driver firstly in device manager.

Reboot the unit and install the new downloaded driver.

Im sorry i know this question has been asked before but I can't seem to find the solution.
I have a Satellite P300 PSPCCA-015015 (which came with Windows Vista when I bought it).
I did a clean install of Windows 7. Now a lot of things did not work with this OS so I want to re-install to the older version of windows.
The only thing is that I created a recovery disk and have lost them :(.
Now I still have the Hardrive that windows creates to put the recovery disk files in. All I need is to either 1 get the recovery disk creater software for my model or
the complete recovery disk to reinstall with factory setting.
Would you know where I could get any of these two.
As I am hatting WIndows 7 to death at the moment and Im regreting installing it and losing my disks :(

Oh also to let you know I am living in Japan now but I bought the Laptop in Australia so it has english OS, plus I was wondering how I would go about getting it posted to Japan.
or if I can go somewhere in Tokyo and get this fixed by a toshiba shop that does repairs.

Thanks I hope I can get an answer and a solution from someone.

Answer:Where and how to buy a Recovery Disk for my Satellite P300 PSPCCA-015015?

I don't know how it works in Australia but I believe you can order original recovery media by Australian Toshiba service provider.
I am not sure if they will send it to you but some friend of you can order and buy it for you and later send you to Japan.

I believe it is simplest way to get original Toshiba installations disc.

I received my new notebook yesterday (Satellite P300-220). Today I try to make a recovery disc and I launch "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator", the hourglass cursor appears during 3 or 4 seconds but nothing else, cant access to the application.
Any idea?

Answer:Satellite P300-220 - Can't launch Recovery Disc Creator

Did you something changes on the notebook before you started the Toshiba recovery disk?

It?s not easy to say what the reason is but in your case I would start the HDD recovery option. Therefore go in the advanced boot menu and select ?Repair my computer?.

*Need software recovery disk creator,*

Hello I have Toshiba Satellite P300 and I had installed XP as operating system but I want to go to back to use Vista. Now I need the program recovery disk creator but I can't find it any where on the site. Please Help

*Some Information*

Brand new notebook?

Still use original preinstalled Vista?

Made some changes in operating system like deleting partitions or installing own operating system?

The folder "HDDRecovery" available on second partition?

Answer:Re: Need software recovery disk creator for Satellite P300

In your case there is nothing you can do. The recovery DVD can be created just if notebook has ?factory settings?. Unfortunately you have removed original preinstalled Vista and now there is no way you can create recovery media.

Sorry but there is only one thing you can do now ? to order new copy. You can do this under .

I am really wondering you have ignored reminder to create recovery DVD.

I'm french too, so don't be afraid of my mistakes "non plus" !

I have a Toshiba Satellite P 300 and I want to create a recovery DVD.
How many DVDs of 4,7 GB/per, should I prepaire for this creation?

in fact, I have a Toshiba P300-22F,
there is a hard disk drive failure, because I have changed the partition siez of C:
I must restore the drive to the factory default state by using the Recovery DVD,
but i didn't create this DVD,

One of my friend has a modele Toshiba P300-1G5,
so I'll try to creer this DVD form his computer.........

Answer:Satellite P300-22F How many DVDs should I prepaire 4 Creating Recovery DVD

At first I want to give you advice about DVD you should use. For successful recovery DVD creation use DVD-R medias. I have created several recovery medias on different notebook models and with DVD-R media worked always.

On the market there are several Satellite/Satellite Pro P300 notebooks and image is not the same for all of them.
Just for info:
-for Satellite P300-1GL I needed one empty media only but
-for Satellite Pro P300-149 I needed two of them

So I believe you will need one only. When you start "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator" and choose media you want to use it, you will be informed how many of them do you need.

i want to reformat my laptop, its a Satellite P300.... many things do not work anymore ie: system restore and corrupted c drive

1) would reformatting my laptop fix these problems?

2) 2 disks "product recovery media TOSHIBA satellite p300 etc and says windows vista ulimate 64 bit

Does that mean they contain vista? (vista came pre installed

3) should i make a copy of the vista serial PRODUCT ID that is on my system menu screen

4) how would i run these disks.....

I appreciate if you could help, its an awesome computer

Will reserach on how to run the disks, just wanting to make sure they contain vista

Answer:Satellite P300 - Does the product recovery disks contain Vista?

> 1) would reformatting my laptop fix these problems?
Probably yes

> 2) 2 disks "product recovery media TOSHIBA satellite p300 etc and says windows vista ultimate 64 bit
As far as I know P300 has been equipped with HDD recovery and the Vista 32bit was preinstalled. There should be an option which would helps to recover the notebook using the HDD recovery option. Press F8 while notebook booting up. Then choose Repair my Computer and start the HDD recovery.
This should set the machine to factory settings. Finally you could create a recovery disk using the preinstalled software called Toshiba recovery disk creator.

> 3) should i make a copy of the vista serial PRODUCT ID that is on my system menu screen
You could do this but as far as I know the Vista on the Toshiba Recovery disk is already activated and you don?t need any serial keys.

> 4) how would i run these disks.....
Usually you have to boot from such disk

PS; to get more details you should read the user manual and should read the threads in this forum!

I have a 2008 Satellite P300-150 that I want to restore to factory settings.

I followed the steps in the user?s manual to do this from the hard disk drive (F8 on start up), however, when I try, a screen appears with a warning box with the heading 'system recovery options' then below says 'the installed program cannot start. Click ok to turn off the computer'.

I?m not sure what's best to do now so if someone could suggest another way to do this I would be very grateful.

Answer:HDD recovery installation doesn't start on Satellite P300-150

The situation is pretty simply to explain. Recovery image installation can be done on two ways:
-using HDD recovery or
-using created recovery DVD.

I don?t know if you have created this disc following Toshiba advice but if you have it use it for operating system installation.

By the way: Satellite P300 runs perfectly with Win7 32bit so if there is a way to install it do it. It runs much better than original Vista.

If you have more questions you are welcome. ;)

I'm trying to solve a startup issue on my aunties notebook. i can go to the setup menu withh F2 or I can choose the F12 option to choose the startup from.

On a regular base she did some backuping on a certain E-device the hidden disk and she is sure she hasn't deleted that one.

Now I would like to start the computer in safe mode. But I can't get to get that screen

Only two options are F2 or F12.

Is there a possibility to install something on an external drive and try to startup from that device as I can't choose the E-device.

Thanks in advance and don't hesitate if I need to inform you of further information altough it won't be easy as I can 't startup lol

I need to make my recovery disc's for my Satellite P300 (PSPCCA-05V01Y) but the Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator isn't working, as it is saying that there isnt a HDD Recover file on the pc.
I tried before, and it had a problem with the core files, saying it was corrupt.
So I was wondering if there is anyway I can download the HDD Recovery installation so that I can install it and bring it back to the 'factory state' and reburn the recovery disc's?
Cheers for any help

Answer:Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator isn't working on my Satellite P300

Hello Mikey

The situation is pretty complicated. When you got your notebook the recovery files was saved on second partition in ?HDDRecovery? folder. The second partitions and saved files should not be changed.

If you have done something with second partition or this folder Toshiba recovery creator cannot find these files and recovery media cannot be created. This will works with ?factory settings? only. but I see one other problem there.
Theoretically, you can now install OS again using HDD recovery installation procedure, and with factory state you should be able to create DVD but if the Toshiba recovery creator cannot find the files I am afraid the HDD recovery installation can have the same problem.

If you want you can test it. Try to start HDD recovery installation.

Hi sorry for posting again but i need help please.

I posted on the 11th as well, but could someone please tell me if i will loose the option of restoring my laptop back to factory default when pressing F8 if i make the recovery DVD with the Toshiba software.

As i said before i can get into safe mode but cannot boot into my Vista.

I cannot use recovery discs as my laptop came with no discs at all??

So the only option seems to be is to restore it back to the factory default,

I'm posting again as i need help please......

Answer:Equium P300-16T: Will I lose the HDD recovery option using Recovery DVD?

Hi abbi

I can help you?
You should know that your Recovery disk would set the notebook back to factory settings.
This means that the whole HDD would be formatted and everything would be reinstalled.
The Recovery disk creates also the HDD recovery partition which allows you to recovery the notebook from the HDD.

You said you didn?t get any Recovery disks?
Well buddy, I think you didn?t read the user manual? there you would find a info that the recovery disk has to be created using the Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator software which is preinstalled on your notebook.

I have a C650D that has just fallen out of warranty and subsequently died on me. I had made the Recovery disks at purchase so thought it would be a simple matter of using them and I would be able to use the laptop again...seems I was wrong :(

I have tried the F8 at start up option and all i get is the following message:
No bootable device - - insert boot disk and press any key.

I inserted the recovery disk and after an encouraging amount of disk drive noise and the message windows is loading the files I then got a box asking me to choose the language I wanted, followed by an error message that there was something missing...i didn't get time to write it down in full before it quit on me. Subsequent attempts to load (incase there was something wrong with initial attempt) get to the windows loading page then nothing....

Can anyone advise me what I need to do to fix this please?

Thanks in advance

Answer:Cannot install recovery image on Satellite C650D

I?m afraid this message has something to do with HDD. Is HDD recognized properly in BIOS settings?

If yes, set please BIOS to default settings and try to use recovery DVDs again.

By the way: you can see language option but you cannot choose other language than original language you got with your notebook. With other words if you have Spain OS you cannot choose other language. You got OS on Spain only.

Hi Experts,

As I have wrote before I divided my HDD 2nd partitions in to 2partitions.

Now I want to make a recovery DVD except the manufacturer provided DVD.

The reason I want that is the USER MANUAL says when we are restoring by the manufacturer Provided DVD it will FORMAT all the Partitions and revert the HDD to original state (When it come it has two partitions).

So now I'm trying to make a Recovery DVD to recover the notebook with out FORMATTING the second partitions.
I just want to format only the C drive and install the Vista OS and other manufacturer provided software.
Then the other drives will be safe and the data on those partitions will be safe.

I kindly request you to help me on this.

It's better if anybody can give me the instructions for that operation.

Thanks !!!! :8}

Hi all, I would like to do a factory restore for my Satellite A200
I checked them harddisk and confirmed that the recovery partition is still here

When I hold 0 and turn on the laptop, rather than beep and the warning screen, it only takes me to the windows boot manager page
So I pressed F8 and choose repair computer, I read that I can also start the recovery process by choosing toshiba recovery wizard
But when I press the recovery wizard, the cdrom eject and tells me to put in the recovery CD (which I dont have)

What annoys me is that I checked that the recovery partition is there but I cant find a way to start the process
Anyone know the solution? Or there is another button to press when booting the machine?

Many thanks!

Hey guys,

I've been doing some research on how to restore my computer to out of the box settings and I tried every single option listed here. Failed.

I have windows 7 Home premium 64 bit, came with the computer, preinstalled, two partitions, partition D haveng HDD recovery files, C having windows.

Now, after two years of use, laptop has gotten sluggish at startup so I'd like to restore factory settings. Tried holding "0" and powering up, nothing, just a loooot of beeping. Tried f8 at startup, okay, that got me to windows loading some files, login screen, but no "Toshiba HDD recovery" option listed on the menu... I know for a fact that those files are on partition D, the question is, how to make use of them?

I haven't fiddled with the system at all, except that I used the d partition as a storage for photos and videos, whic I have transfered to the external disk now, prior to the attempt of HDD recovery. There was also mentioned, that recovery DVD should be created with toshiba recovery media creator, but that wasn't preinstalled on my laptop and I don't know how to get it.

Any ideas what am I to do? Suggestions?

Dear all,

I'm a new owner of a Toshiba Satellite P-70-B-104 and I've got a question regarding the Toshiba recovery options.
Is it possible to preform a so-called "clean" image recovery so that the computer is only installing the mandatory windows software and the Toshiba software without third-party software such as norton, adobe, etc?
I didn't find this option after pressing the zero key while booting .

Thanks for your help.

Nobody force you to use all this preinstalled stuff. After recovery image installation you can remove all additional software from the system.

Am trying to re-install windows 7 on Satellite L500D. I'm having all sorts of problems with the computer since it got infected by malware or virus, not sure which. I have already backed up all my documents, pics and pst file to an external hard drive.

I hold down "0" when powering up then got following options.

First option is 32 or 64 bit,
I chose 32 as it currently has 32 bit installed.
Next option is Warning, I selected yes.
Next option is Recovery of Factory Default Software (Recover to out-of-the-box state). or Erase the hard disk, I chose Recovery of Factory Default.
Next is 3 options,
1. Recover to out-of-the-box-state (System Recovery Options are include),
2. Recover without changing the hard drive partitions, or
3. Recover to custom size partition. I thought I choose Option 1, but it says all partitions will be deleted and you will lose all data on the hard drive.

Does this mean I will delete the windows install partition?
Should I choose option 2?
Option 2 says "The first partition will be deleted and you will lose all data on the partition." I'm thinking option 2?

On a separate issue, could I install the 64 bit version of Windows, if so would there be any benefit?

Answer:Recovery image installation on Satellite L500D

Detailed explanation about recovery image installation you can find on

Please check it and I hope you will find al info you need there. I always use ?Recovery to out-of-box state? option > System Recovery options are included.

Your system is obviously infected and you need complete reinstallation so don't make the whole thing so complicated. Back-up all your data and install recovery image using option 1. Who cares what will be deleted and what not. Whole HDD should be cleaned up.

I recommend you to use 64bit OS version.
Very nice article about 32 and 64bit OS versions you can find here .

I have a Toshiba Satellite L875-12P than one year and I have a huge problem with an efficient use of this laptop. The system runs very slowly and some files cannot be opened at all. I tried to somehow handle it and I've tried many programs, but it is not a fully accomplished what I wanted, the laptop is still slow. How buying a laptop was pre-installed operating system Windows 8.

My question then is whether there is any way to restore the system to the state it was in as I ran it the first time? When the recovery options, I chose the option to restore the system to factory condition, there is information that you are missing some files, or you can run it from the installation media or recovery media system. When buying a laptop I did not get, no plates, no drivers. I got a box in the laptop with all installed drivers and with windows 8-vocational only thing in kartonnie after the laptop it was a book, which dealt with the various pieces of the laptop such as the video card or network card.

Does anyone have an idea where to get the media and if you can make it so that I do not really cost? Thanks you in advance for your help.

Hi. I have a C670 which I had problems starting up. I tried the back up discs I had created when i got the machine but they failed to work. I had an extended warranty with the company I had bought the laptop from and I sent it back to them to get the problem sorted. As the back up discs didn't work, all they have done is reinstall windows and I've lost all the bundled software and the HDD recovery system on the D drive which come on the machine.Lesson to learned here I think.

I?ve checked specification for your notebook and there is written that your notebook was delivered with 64bit version only.
> For some reason it has reverted to 32 bit.
Something like this is NOT possible. You can have 32bit version just if 32bit version is installed using Microsoft OS installation (clean OS installation). Best evidence is missing original 64bit recovery image.

> The answer I keep getting is the HDD recovery file is missing.
Where you can see this message?
When you start notebook and use F8 to enter ?Advanced boot options? is option ?Repair my computer? there?

I am trying to restore my laptop to factory settings. It is a Toshiba Satellite L300D and it has recently become infected with the windows vista security 2011 virus.
It still works in safe mode, and safe mode with networking but I don?t want to risk it any more. I tried years ago to make a recovery DVD but it never worked.

Now I tried to recover from the Hard drive but it said it cannot locate HDD 1 and recommended trying to remove numbers from the partition which is something I don?t really understand.
Either way I cannot recover to factory settings.

Is there anything I can do to get my hands on a recovery image or sort this out. Any help welcome. Thank you

Answer:Satellite L300D - Recovery image needed

For recovery installation there are two options only:
-to use HDD recovery image
-usage of created recovery DVD.

Unfortunately you cannot use any of these options.
What you can do now is to install OS using Microsoft installation disc and later install all drivers, tools and utilities alone or to order original recovery DVD from Toshiba.
You can do this under

What do you think what would be best option for you?

Hi Neil

Greetings everyone! Problem 1I have a new Y480 (Windows 7 - 64 bit). When using OneKey Recovery and choosing to attempt burning 'recovery discs with existing backup image', then the defaults are chosen on the next screen (Source: Default Path; Image Path: D:\Lenovo\OneKey App\OneKey Recovery\backup.wsi), an error of: "The image file is not valid. Please select a valid image file" appears. The 'Select Another Image' option under the 'source' cryptically proves no help. Problem 2Also, It was stated in the documentation that system backups could be made to discs. Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a Dell Windows RT tablet from someone. It had the problem of not starting anymore. I managed to get my hands on a Windows RT 8.0 Recovery USB Image for this type of tablet. I used a Imaging tool to install this image on a USB drive.
I booted with this and I could access the Advanced recovery options. I started the Command Prompt and launched Diskpart. I saw all of the partitions where gone. So I used Diskpart to re-install all of the partitions using the Microsoft standard.
It looks like this:

convert gpt
create partition primary size=450
set id=DE94BBA4-06D1-4D40-A16A-BFD50179D6AC
gpt attributes=0x8000000000000001
format quick fs=ntfs label="Windows RE tools"
assign letter=T
create partition efi size=200
format quick fs=fat32 label="System"

All went well. After recreating the partitions, I used DISM to deploy the *.wim image on the USB drive to the Windows partition and installed the bootloader afterwards. The tablet was fixed after this :) I installed Windows RT 8.0 and updated to Windows

So as soon as I got my brand new Y50-70, and before doing anything on this laptop (not even installing new software), I went tried OneKey Recovery only to discover that it is broken. I then tried my luck with Windows Recovery (the one provided with every Windows 8.1 copy, not unique to Lenovo): I first went through system image creation on a recovery drive (1TB WD Elements USB HDD): 1. Find it on Control Panel: 2: Select it (Recovery option):3. Create a recovery drive:  4.  Selected the F: drive (1TB, it's not a *flash* drive just an ordinary USB hdd, does it matter?): 5. Got a nice warning (indeed, this process reformatted the drive, to 32GB only, why 32GB and not the full 1TB?)  Now... let's see if I can restore from this newly created system image: 1. Rebooted from the newly created Recovery Drive (it actually boots!): 2. Selected "Use a device", then received this menu: 3. I selected EFI USB Device. It then went to an intermediate Lenovo boot splash: 4. And shortly after that (without me doing anything) a new prompt, to choose a language: 5. I selected English and then, got prompted for keyboard layout: 6. The system then system to restart again from the Recovery Drive, only to prompt me again with the "Choose an Option" screen (as in step #1). So, I selected "Troubleshoot" this time: 7. I then selected "Advanced options", and received this screen: 8. I then selected S... Read more

The reason that the Windows recovery program could not find a backup image is that you did not make one. What you have made is a recovery drive. What you should do is click "System Image Backup" located at the bottom left portion of the File History menu.

I have bought an A300 15b laptop, and it comes with win Vista preinstalled
I would like to change my OS to Win XP.
After searching this forum I noticed that I have to make a back up DVD of the original Toshiba recovery.

I found the recover folder on E:\HDDRECOVERY .
Now can anyone help with "HOW to make this DVD ".

I mean if I burn the folder as it is will it be bootable?
Do I have to use an image burning software , or drug&drop will work??

Are drivers available for Win XP?

Thank you in advance .

Answer:Satellite A300-15B: How to burn HDD recovery image & need Win XP drivers

You can burn and create the own Vista Recovery DVD using the Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator software.
It?s preinstalled on the notebook.

Please check the desktop shortcuts or the folder on the C:\ Program Files

The Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator will burn the Toshiba image.
I would also recommend using the DVD-R disks? some people got an error message during the burning due to not compatible DVD disk.

Answer:Cannot install Toshiba Recovery image on my Satellite notebook

You can install original recovery image and set notebook to ?factory settings? using two possible options:
-to use HDD recovery installation (F8 at start-up and ?repair my computer? option)
-to use recovery DVD

If I understand you right you have installed own OS in hope to use your notebook but on this way you have ?deleted? this repair my computer option so you will not be able to start installation from HDD. Your only option is usage of recovery DVD.

Now the million dollar question: have you created recovery DVD following Toshiba advice to do this?

I have a Satellite A10 that has had its CD drive died. I need to reimage it using the recovery disks that came with it but I cant as I don't have an external drive handy.

What I can do though is copy the ghost images from the recovery disks to an external USB drive, boot from that and then run ghost and then image the laptop from the ghost image I copied from the CDs.

Only problem is the image is locked with a password which I don't know. Is Toshiba able to supply a password or let me know how to get the password required so I can use the image on my laptop?

Answer:Recovery CD do not work (Satellite A10) - Need ghost image password

Hello Patrick

To be honest I don't believe you will get this password. Who should give it to you?
In my opinion you should buy new optical disc drive and be happy with your notebook.
Satellite A10 is pretty old notebook model and ODDs are not expensive.

You can also get one from eBay.

Just had to buy a new hard drive and switch it with the old one. I already checked that it was at the same size and SATA as the original hard drive. When i tried to start a fresh installation of the operating system from the recovery disk (that i bought from Toshiba service provider in my country - MAFIL), the boot option was not available.

MAFIL representative told me that the recovery disks are only suitable for reinstalliation of the o.s. on the original drive, but not for installing a fresh new copy. So how can i install my Win7-64bit, with all Toshiba apps and settings on the new drive?

Answer:Satellite L655-1GN - cannot install original recovery image on new HDD

On many different notebook models HDD exchange or upgrade can be done by notebook owner and after doing this you can install recovery image using recovery disc without any problems.

I have done this many times on different Toshiba notebook models. It works.
I really don't understand how someone can give you such info.

Set BIOS to default settings, restart your machine and press F12 at start-up. When boot menu is shown on the screen put recovery disc info ODD, choose CD/DVD as bootable device and press ENTER.
What happen when you do this?

Unfortunately you will not be able to start recovery image installation. Data saved on USB cannot be used on that way. It must be bootable device created by ?Toshiba recovery disc creator?
You can install recovery image using recovery disc only.

If you don?t have it you can order new one.

Can you help me to recover this notebook by an external USB DVD-ROM?

Load MS-DOS driver for external DVD drive to have access to it
Start installations CD from there in hope it will works

Hi everyone,

I have a Satellite L775-140. I decided to restore my notebook to factory settings so I?ve created 4 CDs using preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator tool.

However, when I put the first CD, after a few minutes, there was a error:

diskpart successfully formatted the volume.

copy files recovery bases

htmprep ...

boot ...

establishment file error - data error (cyclic redundancy check)

error: copying of files based recovery failed!

press any key to continue. . .

What to do? Knowing that I have these recovery CDs, is there a way around how to install it?
Could anyone help me? Generally speaking I have several problems but I have not found an answer or find the same situation as me.

Thank you for your help

This with recovery image installation is pretty simply: either it works or not. Problem can be some mistake on recovery discs or maybe on HDD.
Do you use these created discs for the first time now?

As far as I know there is no some kind of work around that you can use to force recovery image installation.
Try to start installation one more time.

I'm working on a Satellite A200, which doesn't have any recovery disks, and now seems to have a messed up Vista installation.

My question is, can I create recovery disks from these images? The machine they are saved on triple boots XP, Vista & W7, they were created using ShadowProtect Desktop.
I can mount the images into either OS...

Answer:Satellite A200 - Burn recovery disks from HD image?

As far as I know it can be problematic now. Recovery media can be created when notebook has ?factory settings?. That means available "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator" tool and recovery image placed on second partition.

When you move this recovery image somewhere else and put it back later it can happen that "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator" cannot find the files anymore.

This “HowTo” provides information and instruction how to create a USB recovery media flash drive using the Toshiba recovery ISO image files or Toshiba Recovery discs (DVDs)

To create a USB recovery media flash drive, a USB flash drive with at least 16GB disk space is suggested (depends on the size of the ISO images or recovery discs).

Note: Since 2015 the ISO layout has changed and a different procedure must be processed to create the USB media. The new recovery media type can be identified by the names of the ISO files.

Hello world,Just bought a Lenovo Y400, which comes with a 1TB HDD. Preinstalled with Win 8. In Computer I noticed it shows 2 partitions -C: Windows8_OS about 890GBD: Lenovo               about 25 GB On checking with disk management however, it shows 6 partitionsAnd when checking with Easeus partition master (EPM), it shows a total 7 partitions + 2 discrete unallocated spaces.Interestingly, the free spaces on these hidden partitions is also different when viewed with Disk Management and with EPM!Now I have not seen these many partitions before - either in XP or Vista or Win 7.I have not read on why these many partitions are needed for Win 8, but probably there are solid reasons.Usually I feel it is safe to keep the OS on one partition and the files on another.1) Has something changed in the current OS architecture, which makes this unnecessary ?Wouldn't it be more convenient if a format and re-install is required to format the OS partition without affecting the files on another partition ? 2) Say I want to partition the current Windows8_OS into 2 - and make a separate partition for my files, will the OKR functionality will be lost ? I have read that changing the default partitions will make OKR unusable. Is there a detailed guide to use OKR, and know which partitions can or cannot be removed ? Here is what I know and some of my guesses - 1GB       Recover... Read more

Answer:IdeaPad Y400 - how to save recovery image with One Key Recovery

Any resizing of the partitions will cause OKR to be non-functional. See the manual. Doing the Windows backup image will only restore the os but not the OKR feature. What you should do is use OKR to make the backup. If the space is small you can always use an external drive. The extra partitions that you see are for the okr program.I would recommend not to tamper with these partitions unless you are ready to deal with the consequences.

Strange problem. My Satellite C660D-1FM was doing a bunch of updates from Microsoft (hadn't done any updates for ages as it was used by my daughter and not connected to the internet) and after they had completed it rebooted and I got the Toshiba splash screen and then nothing. Holding F8 gives the same problem, tried holding the '0' key while powering on and that was the same. Connected an external monitor and it's the same. I can get into the BIOS and everything looks fine.

So, thinking the hard drive might be faulty I fitted another hard drive and fully installed Win7 from a Microsoft DVD (SP1 and all updates) and everything works. I then thought I'd try and restore the laptop to default factory settings using the Toshiba recovery DVD's which Id created. All worked fine during the install, all 3 DVD's installed and it went through the setup procedure, laptop got to the end when it wanted to reboot, rebooted and now back to the same error - Toshiba splash screen is ok but then it just goes blank. To convince myself I wasn't going mad I then re-installed Win7 from my Microsoft DVD and it installs fine, does all updates and has worked all day today with no issue.

Anyone any idea what's going on?

Answer:Satellite C660 - blank screen after recovery image instalation

Hmmm... something like this should not happen.
Do you use recovery discs for the first time?
Have you noticed the same result on both HDDs?

Problem is that there is no much to do about that and there is no way to change anything while recovery installation runs or later when windows setup is in progress.

Try to set BIOS to default settings and simply try to install recovery image again.

On a number of occasions the laptop suddenly shuts down before it has fully finished restoring the recovery disk.
I have a suspicion it may be due to getting warm. If so, is there anything which could be too sensitive to heat and therefore tripping? It does get a little warm but no more than my other laptop which doesn't trip. It seems to work longer before tripping in a colder room.

I haven't been able to fully restore the image without a problem and had to do installation with an XP disk. This was successful but it still trips after a short use.
Does something need to be reset or does the laptop need to be taken in for repair?

Answer:My Satellite notebook shuts down when restoring recovery disk image

According to your problem description the first step should be professional cleaning. The dust blocks the air circulation and I presume after short time the notebook erached critical temperature. In this case the unit shuts down automatically because of hardware protection.

Clean the unit and I am pretty sure everything will be OK again.

Hi everyone,

I have a Satellite M100 (bought mid 2006), 512MB RAM, 60GB HDD, Intel T2050 CPU.

I decided to have a cleanup and run the restore disk to return the laptop to factory settings, then only reinstall what I actually wanted.
I did this yesterday, realised I'd forgotten something, then ran it again about 4 hours later.
The first time the restore worked, now it reboot after the progress bar reaches full when it says 'Loading RAMDISK image'.
After the progress bar reaches full, the mouse pointer appears for a few seconds then the computer reboots.

Nothing has changed with the hardware or BIOS, and whats on the HD shouldn't have an effect as I'm booting from the DVD.
Can anyone please help? I'm at a loss to explain whats happened in that 4 hour interval.

Answer:Satellite M100 recovery disk failing after loading ramdisk image

I don't have a sure-fire solution, but my only tip would be to run a Disk Check (and check for bad sectors on the HDD). There's probably some way to do this if you can boot into Windows Safe Mode with Command Prompt. Someone more technically-versed should be able to help with this, if you want to try to do it.

I don?t know that causes the problem too because I?m not an expert but sometimes I can read in the forum you should delete all partitions before you use the recovery disk.
You can do this with the Microsoft disk for example. Just boot from it and delete all partitions. After this restart and try to use the recovery disk.

I don?t know if it helps but you can give us a feedback. :)

Well I finished my project - the program script allows me to create MBR and GPT hard drive partitions with a recovery image partition. The script also allows me to install 3 different versions of windows. and lastly it allows me to capture a recovery (push button reset) image. which can then be used to create recovery media..

Here is the Menu Snippet:

WinPE 5.1 was the preinstallation environment use for testing

After HP hard drive failure, HP sent and I installed/activated the replacement hard disk, up to a Factory Install (Win 7, 64-bit).  But my efforts to restore to my System Image backup are blocked.  I managed to reach the Windows System Recovery Options panel, from where I select System Image Recovery, which successfully detects the external System Image that I previously backed up, but when I select Next to continue with the recovery, I am blocked by a message indicating that the System Image Recovery requires reformatting the disk where the Recovery Environment is running -- restart.  But neither restarting, nor HP Recovery, nor Windows Recovery, nor booting from the HP-created Windows Repair disc, nor booting from the HP-provided System Recovery discs allow me to restore from my System Image backup.   In desperation, I then formatted the C: drive, but a reboot simply re-installed the Factory image from drive D: (HP Recovery drive).

Answer:HP Recovery seems to block my Recovery from System Image

Hi @20pcAdmin, Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that you are having some trouble restoring from the back you made of your data. I am happy to assist with this. Does the hard drive you are restoring to have enough free space to restore the entire back up?Are you restoring to an empty folder? Also review the following, but I am sure you are following it properly. HP PCs - Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows 7)  If not try to follow the process and see if there is any change. Otherwise you may need to contact phone support. Please use the following and create a case for your issue and contact HP. If you live outside the US/Canada, please click the link below to get the contact information for your region. Please let me know whether that works for you, and if it does resolve your issue, please mark this post as a solution. Kudos would also be appreciated.

I have a Toshiba Tecra A11 and had a problem with the OS so one of my friends offered to fix it for me, when he said fix it he meant try and install completely the wrong Windows 7 but in the mean time destroy the partition removing all built in Windows 7 pro installation.

So now I need a specific boot CD or file for a USB. Does anyone know where I can get one or download one without having to pay Toshiba 35 quid for a new one?

Answer:Need recovery disc or recovery image for my Tecra A11

Recovery file cannot be downloaded. Toshiba offer it as recovery disc only. Downloading some iso file will not help you much because you will not be able to start recovery image installation.

Either you will find someone who has identical Tecra and use his disc or you must order one on
