Preferred Solution: Satellite A105 - Lost recovery disk - How to reinstall OS

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite A105 - Lost recovery disk - How to reinstall OS

You could order the Recovery disk from the ASP in your country or you will try to reinstall the OS using the original Microsoft disk.
This would install a clean Windows OS and the missing Toshiba drivers you could download and install from the Toshiba US driver page:

Hi everyone,

My wife went on vacation to Hawaii, and while she was gone, her Satellite A105 (no longer under warranty with a dead DVD drive) started malfunctioning to the point where XP where freeze on boot.

I tried everything I could but it wouldn't boot.
So finally I took a USB DVD drive formatted the hard drive with killdisk and tried to use the recovery disc to at least get the unit operational. Problem is the unit will not complete the installation I get the following error:

Windows cannot find c:/bin/errordialog.exe

I thought it was the disc so I cleaned it, and still the same thing, since I'm a student, I had access to XP pro from the msdn network so I got a copy, and still the same error.
I don't have a large enough USB flash drive, and the laptop doesn't have a floppy so I'm stuck with no way to restore the OS... needless to say the wife is not pleased with me!

I managed to get Linux installed without problem, but my wife wants her laptop back to xp and will probably hate me until I can fix what I have done. PLEASE help!

I have a Toshiba Satellite A105-S2141 that I'm trying to reinstall Windows on after a bad virus infection. When I input the Windows CD (OEM cd, not original) and it loads all the drivers it'll BSOD with 0x50 PAge_Fault_In_Non_Paged_Area.
I have run several hardware diagnostics on the machine (memtest, hard drive tests, winstress) and nothing comes back bad. I put in a Vista disc for sh**s and giggles and it loads up fine.

At this point I believe it to be a SATA driver that needs to be loaded with Windows. I cannot find this driver anywhere rpn=PSAA5U&modelFilter=A105-S2141&selCategory=3&selFamily=1073768663

There's the link to the support page for this laptop model. I have also updated BIOS firmware to newest version, I tried the BIOS driver loaded onto a floppy to no avail.
I'm really stumped and this laptop is no good to me right now.

Ive got a 2005 Satellite a80-135 laptop which was working pretty good til I decided to format the HDD after a Ram performance boosting operation (1gb kingston Ram module).

Right after this the computer started to show some software problems and finally crashed;
So I decided to reinstall the whole OS again; and here i found the problem that I really hope you can help me with;

The thing is that i cannot format my hard drive from my cd drive (with recovery CD in) when restarting the machine.
In theory, booting panel menu should appear after restarting computer with C key pressed simountaneously but nothing happens.

Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite A80 135 cannot reinstall the OS using Recovery disk

The C button simply enables the booting from the ODD.
You can also try to press F12 after the notebook has been powered up.
Then the boot menu should appear on the display and then you could choose the ODD (optical disk drive) in order to boot from the CD.

If this is not possible then the issue might be related to ODD malfunction or recovery disk.
Possibly the CD/DVD drive cannot read this disk properly and therefore the notebook cannot boot from the disk.
You could try to copy the recovery CD using another computer and could try to boot using the copied CD.
If this will not work then the issue might be related to the ODD malfunction.

I am dual booting (running Windows Vista & Win7) and if I delete Windows Vista can I reinstall Windows Vista with my recovery CD?
And I have another drive on my computer for recovery Partition so can I use my recovery CD to reinstall Windows vista if I want it back after I got rid of it and would it wipe my win7 drive or remove the duel boot?

My specs are:
Intel Pentium
Hard drive 160GB

Answer:Satellite Pro L300 - Can I reinstall Vista with the recovery disk?

The Toshiba recovery disk contains an image of the factory settings. That means if you use it you get back the settings from the first time that you have started the notebook.
So if you want Windows Vista back you must only use the Toshiba recovery disk.

But the Toshiba recovery disk wipes the whole HDD. That means you will lose everything and also your dual boot system with Windows 7. So backup your data first before you use the recovery disk.

I hope I could help you a little bit. :)

My Satellite Pro A300's Hard drive failed. It has now been replaced. I have ordered a recovery disk.
Will this enable me to reinstall the Windows Vista OS that came originally installed?

Also,I am getting this message"BOOTMGR MISSING".Will the recovery disk fix this issue too?
Many thanks in advance !

Answer:Re: Satellite Pro A300 - Will recovery disk reinstall Windows OS on new HDD

Yes. Definitely.

Is new HDD recognized properly in BIOS settings?
If yes there should not be any problem.

By the way, A300 runs perfectly and much better with Win7 32bit.

I've installed a new hard drive and tried to reinstall vista from the Product recovery CD.

"error restoring image"

"The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable"

"ERROR Imagex could not apply VISTA F:\06235XSP.svm Index 2 from ODD to c:\!

"press any key to continue"

And that's thye ned.

Any ideas

Answer:Satellite L300 - can not reinstall Vista using Recovery disk

Hmm? looks like the notebook cannot restore the OS from the recovery image?
To be honest I?m not quite sure why this error appears but possibly it?s related to the new installed HDD.

Maybe you could format the HDD again using an clean Microsoft Windows CD (Win XP, etc?).
Boot from the Win CD and format the HDD.
Then go back to the recovery disk, boot from the recovery disk and try to install the OS again?

Maybe it would work?

You are lucky man then you could order it from the Toshiba ASP in your country.
But it could be also possible that such disk is not more available because the unit is a little bit older.

Hi guys,

I've got a Satellite L30 and need to completely reinstall Vista but I've lost my recovery CD

Please help

Answer:Satellite L30 - I lost the recovery disk

There should be a Recovery Partition on the Hard Disk.

Try holding down the Zero key when you turn on the laptop.

If the Recovery Console doesn't launch, try pressing F8 just after the Toshiba Splash Screen and enter the Recovery menu.

If that doesn't work, then you can order the Recovery Discs from Toshiba's website.

Hi all,

I recently bought a Satellite A105-S361 and now I discovered that I don't have the recovery DVDs and I don't have the option to recreate the recovery DVDs because my HD has been formatted once.

How can I solve this problem?

Thanks in advance,

Claudio .....

Answer:Satellite A105-S361 without recovery DVD

I don't know where you come from but as far as I know the Satellite A105-S361 was designed and delivered in US. It seems that this notebook is a US unit.
Generally it's possible to order the recovery medias from the Toshiba service partner but I'm not sure about the US market.
But I think you should ask the Toshiba ASP in your country for these medias. In my opinion it should be possible to order this CDs.

my boss' Satellite A105-S4064 had a serious problem, the only solution was to do a restore of the OS. I inserted the first DVD and initiated the process. It then requested for the second disc, after a while there was an error that it could not continue.

After another try, I got a new error when I start with disc 1, the error was 'NTLDR is missing', I then tried with a different Windows XP CD, which also cannot even format the HDD.

Could the HDD be defective beyond repairs? Please help me out, been working on it for the past days. Thanx in advance

Answer:Re: Satellite A105 - Recovery DVD cannot boot

I agree with you and think that this problem occurs because of defective HDD. Try to obtain a new one and start recovery installation.

You have done good thing and tried OS installation with Microsoft installations CD but you can see that the problem persists. It must be because of defective HDD. I really do not see any other explanation.

Hello everyone! I Lost my recovery disk of my Satellite A20-S103. Could anyone copy it for me? Or, there's somewhere I can get it? Thanks! Be well!

Answer:Lost my recovery disk of my Satellite A20-S103

> Could anyone copy it for me?

The Toshiba Forum is not an emporium for Recovery disks!
I assume that a Recovery could be ordered from the ASP.

If this notebook is too old then it will be not possible to get the Recovery from the ASP.
In such case You will have to install the XP from your own disk and then drivers could be downloaded from the Toshiba page.

You need either the Recovery disk or the clean Microsoft Windows disk in order to install Windows OS gain.
Since L30 is a little bit older, I doubt you could order the recovery disk?
Therefore you will need an Microsoft Windows CD!
You will need to buy such CD if you are not the Microsoft Windows CD owner.

Hi, i need know how to restore or create the recovery cd/dvd for this toshiba model.

Answer:Question about recovery CD/DVD for Satellite A105-s4014

Hm, can you just explain if you ever had a recovery CD? If non was shipped with your computer then you can create one with the Toshiba recovery creator which is located in the Startmenu under "Toshiba".

If you had a recovery disk and lost it then you must either contact an authorized service partner and buy a new one or use a original windows CD, install it on your machine and download the drivers from the Toshiba Drivers Download page.

Such disk is copyright protected and it?s forbidden to copy and to distribute copyright disks ;)

Hi all
disaster has struck ! My wife has a Satelite C850D-117 which came installed with Windows 8, which I've always hated. Also can't get rid of Sweet-Page malware. Tried updating to Windows 10 and it went even slower and the start menu stopped working. Can't find WIndows Recovery Disk (moved house twice). I like Windows XP and Windows 7 which I have on my laptop.

So my son's PC-nerd "friend" said he'd sort it out, and it seems he got stuck. Now it won't start up, it gets stuck on a Windows 7 page saying "Starting Windows". Luckily I made a backup of all data before letting him near the laptop.

I'd like to buy a copy of Windows 7 and retro-install int, but have the following questions:

1) is it possible / advisable to do this on this model of PC?
2) Which Windows 7 pack should I buy?
3) Do I need to completely reformat the HDD or change partitions, or something before I install?
4) If I buy a download version, I'll have to download on another PC, and presumably I'll have to store the downloaded files onto a CDROM or USB drive so that I can then start-up with this media on the Toshiba, right? Any clues how to do this?

Thanks in advance!

I have a SatA105 without a recovery disc, but there is a utility on it called Recovery Disc Creator. But when I try to start it, it gives me an error message that the rdc_info.ini is missing or corrupt.
It is there, so I opened it, and it's looking for a file at Z:\giinfo.ini which is not being found!

What does that mean? Can I not make a recovery disc? or can I get a copy of it from some one, and then will it work? Or is the recovery disc info not one the computer any more?

What can I do now?

Answer:Satellite A105: Cannot create Recovery CD - missing rdc_info.ini file

Hello Jim

Unfortunately I don?t have an US notebook model and really don?t know what is wrong there. Usually there should not be problems if you use preinstalled Recovery Disc Creator. The image is stored on hidden partition.

Please be sure you do it on right way. How it works exactly you can read HERE

Otherway you should contact service partner in your country. I am pretty sure they can help you or maybe create one recovery media for you.

Answer:Satellite L500 - No recovery disc or recovery partition - How to reinstall?

Normally if I buy a new notebook or other product I read the user manual firstly. So I would recommend that you should the same before you ask different questions.

The point is that you have to create a Toshiba recovery disk yourself. Therefore start the recovery disk creator that is preinstalled on your notebook and follow the screen instructions. I recommend a high quality DVD-R medium to create this disk.

Furthermore you can reinstall Windows using the HDD recovery option. On the second partition you can find this folder that contains an image of factory settings and you can start this feature if you go in advanced boot menu and select ?repair my computer?. This is not a special partition, only a folder where the image is stored.

HDD recovery procedure is the same as Toshiba recovery disk. You get back factory settings too but the recovery disk wipes the whole HDD. The HDD recovery only the first partition.

By the way: Normally you did get this message:

+your system is equipped with hard disk recovery system. if you need to repair+
+your computer by restoring it to original factory state, you can do it directly+
+from harddisk (press F8 when you boot your computer, choose "Repair your computer"+

My daughter is in college and her computer's hard drive has given out, including the partition containing the system backup. I had a HDD that I wasn't using, so I gave it to her. Unfortunately, she has misplaced the reinstall cds (Windows XP Home) that came with her computer (eMachines T3990). My son has a Dell Dimension 2400 that also has XP Home installed on it. He still lives at home, so I know exactly where his installation disk is. My question is: Will his XP install CD work for her eMachines even though the disk says to only use it to reinstall Windows on a Dell computer? If so, I could then just download the drivers from the web. I just don't know whether an OS disk that came with a Dell computer contains Dell specific files on it that would cause it not to work properly on another brand of computer, or if it's just a regular XP OS disk with Dell's name on it. I purchased both of these computers for my kids to use mainly for school, and we are all in the same household, so I hope you don't consider this a violation of your illegal activity clause, because I simply can't afford to buy another computer.

well last week my mate had locked herself out of her laptop
I had to create a windows recovery disk
I used it to system restore her system to a date before she had set her password
and on the menu it said install vista
and on my old laptop that my dad has it's a 2gb compaq presario
they're not made anymore
it has low memory it's very slow and really
hardly useable without getting very stressed
so if I used the recovery disk I created
and click install vista
will it be like a new laptop?
there's nothing needed on the laptop
so nothing is being lost by resetting the laptop
it's got vista home premium x86
thankyou in advance

Answer:Recovery Disk reinstall

Hello Sound_Asleep,

You could use METHOD THREE in the tutorial below to reset the password instead without losing anything if still need be.

Reset User Account Password

If you used the OEM recovery disc that was created from your mates computer, then yes it will restore the laptop back to factory default like the day she first turned it on. You will not be able to use your dad's OEM recovery disc on your mates computer though.

Hope this helps,

HP will not have them any more. You can go to a third party site like There are also still some "mirror" links to Windows 7 OEM images Microsoft USED To make available.  Post back with any more questions. I hestitate to post all the options since I don't know what you are willing and able to do. Was the laptop ever upgraded to Windows 10? If so reinstall is MUCH easier.

Have a 64 bit HP Pavilion Home Premium desktop that has become corrupted and we'd like to get it back to factory settings.

I can use F11 to access System Recovery, and the first step is formatting the hard drive. It stays on that screen for at least 15 minutes with the completion pct never moving off 0%. It eventually errors with a 1002 msg, saying I should contact HP for support. Right!!!

If I use a Vista 64 CD (not from HP - an iso image I downloaded and burnt using another computer), I'm on the green and blue Vista screen (after I press any key to boot from CD, and after it finishes loading Windows) for just over 8 minutes (I actually timed it - twice) with no writing or images on the screen - just a cursor, before it gives me a BSOD
STOP: 0x01

Answer:Cannot Reinstall from Recovery Partition or Disk

That error is related to either bad memory or problematic drivers. Considering that it happened with a installation disk I'm inclined to think memory I suggest that you test it with memtest: Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

Run it for at least 3 passes.

Hey guys, I bought and own d HP Pavilion desktop and a compaq presario laptop.

My desktop got sick with a virus and was very unstable. It became very slow and could not connect to the internet and I had no choice but to reformat it with the CD that came with my laptop. Incidentally the desktop did NOT have its own recovery disks, it was create-your-own, which I never knew about until it became infected, at which point I didn't want to create disks since the computer was infected.

Long story short I installed my my laptop's operating system onto my desktop without problems (although recovering the drivers was a bit of a pain). The only issue was that it wouldn't accept the Windows Genuine Key from my desktop's tower sticker- I had to use the alpha numeric product code from my actual laptop.

Now I was wondering if there would be any problem if I tried reformatting my laptop with the same disk I used to reformat the computer- mostly because the laptop is getting slow (there's no virus on it, I just want the same clean feeling my desktop now has) . Will the same key be accepted?

My computer came "pre-installed" with Windows XP Home eons ago and I wish to reformat HD and reinstall XP because things have really slowed down.

I went back to manufacturer requested and paid $20 for what I hoped was a complete XP disk, but got another Recovery pr backup CD with SP 2 added. Oh a bonus, why thank you.

Sorry but I've done a search and haven't found anything yet convincing me I can fulfill this task by using the Recovery disk just as well. Is it really better to do installation with full XP disk or using recovery should do the trick as well?

I havn't found a site that I feel comfortable with that could do this?

Any experts have good site recommendation for reinstall with recovery disk, or should I still pursue getting the real XP CD?

Answer:Reinstall Windows XP using Recovery disk

Often that is what you get from a manufacturer. The Recovery CD puts the computer back the way it came from the factory. All the drivers and programs get put back as well. It saves the time of having to install the OS then install any required additional drivers, then install any added programs.

But rather than taking any future guesses, why not ask the manufacturer exactly what the recovery cd's will do.

Will doing this just give me the drivers that are compatible with his hardware and I can just remove them? I've downloaded my hardware drivers onto an external hard drive and was wondering if i could just load up a clean win7 os that way.
Thanks for your time!

Answer:reinstall windows7 using friend's recovery disk need to understand just what recovery disks are.
They may rely on files which are on a hidden partition on the system's hard drive which was originally installed...they may not.
If the system is not the exact same model...using recovery dsiks from a different system is just an invitation to more frustration.  If you look at those retailers selling "recovery disks", you will see that they definitely are system specific...there is no general reovery disks which can be applied to different system models.
I also imagine that using someone else's disks...will result in the Windows license applicable to the disks used on another system...will show up on that list which Microsoft maintains for known compromised license keys.

After installing Ubuntu 10.04 as a dual-boot OS off the Live CD, whenever I turn on the netbook I get the Lenovo splash page, then a blank screen, then the splash page, then blank screen...infinite loop! I figure if I reinstalled Ubuntu as a single-boot OS erasing everything else on the HDD it would work fine, but I really need to keep Win7 for work-related reasons.  I don't mind losing my Windows docs, just want to keep the OS. What are my options, if any?  Is there any way I could use the MS Win7 Product Key on the bottom of the machine to get a direct download of the OS?   Thanks for your help!

I have just bought HP pavilion G6 notebook.
It came with pre-installed Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, recovery disk of 14 gb and C: Hard drive of 451 gb.

I have made 3 recovery disks(DVDS) using "Recovery Media creation".
I Want to Reinstall Windows 7 because

1)want to get rid of recovery disk of 14gb.
2)want to do partition because without partition my system is really slow.

I want to reinstall Windows 7 using these 3 DVDs.
Can anybody please help me

That would be so nice of you.
Thanks in advance !

Answer:how can i reinstall windows 7 using recovery disk DVDS?

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

1. If you recover your system using the recovery discs you have created, all you do is recover it to exactly as it was when you first bought it, which means you will still have a recovery partition.

2. Whenever you want to carry out a factory recovery, using the recovery partition is a lot quicker than using your recovery discs.

3. If you want a clean Windows 7 free of HP's bloatware you need a Windows DVD to install from. If it is the same version as the one currently installed you can use the product key that is attached to the outside of your laptop.

Clean Install : Factory COA Activation Key

Partition size or the number of partitions has no bearing on your computer's performance so you need to investigate other reasons why your computer is slow.

I have a T61 and had a problem with trying to reinstall the OS (Vista) from the recovery partition. Lenovo was nice enough to send me "Recovery CDs." However, while I was waiting for them, I needed to use my computer so I made a partition and loaded Ubuntu. The problem is that it looks like if I use the Recovery Disks, I will be forced to wipe out the partition that has Ubuntu on it. I spent a lot of time installing Ubuntu and I like some of its features and I don't want to loose it. I would like to set up a duel boot on my machine but I don't know if its possible with out installing Vista and loosing everything that I've done, then partitioning again and reinstalling Linux. Question: Does anyone know if I can save my partition and at the same time recover Vista with the CDs on only the other partition? Any help would be on this would be great. Thanks. Elias

Did you find a solution to this? I'm contemplating just making a backup image of Ubuntu and restoring that to a new partition.

I had problems with corrupt files and not knowing much about computers i got my friend to have a look at it. I wish i hadn't.He
took the last resort and without my consent reformatted it and installed an illegal copy of Windows vista ultimate on it(at the

It seemed to go ok until it told me to take the second disk out and the computer restarted. It then went to "start of the INITIALISE

I aborted and it took me to Windows Boot Manager screen and left the following message:

I'm posting this cause maybe it could be helpful to anybody in the same situation that I was.

After events in my Z930, I decided to reinstall my Laptop to Out-Of-Box state. In my first time I was given an error, which I couldn't understand, so I did this in the second attempt:

1. Get in Bios and set the SATA CONTROL MODE to COMPATIBILITY
2. Erase all SSD, data, partitions, sectors...etc ALL

The second attempt was sucessful!

Answer:Got error using recovery disk to reinstall Windows 7

Usually if the problem is SATA option solution should not be BIOS option change but SATA driver load before Win7 installation starts. With enabled SATA option (not compatibility mode) the HDD will work properly and with full performance.

Your solution is just workaround and some kind of temporary solution.

Well, the easiest way to install the OS on the unit is to use the Toshiba Recovery CD because all drivers, tools, and utilities are preinstalled on the Toshiba image.
But if you don?t have this nice CD so you can also install the original Microsoft Windows OS and the necessary Toshiba stuff.

My computer has become very slow and I wish to reformat the hard drive and re install the operating system. I have the Product recovery CD-ROM and the Tools and Utilities CD-ROM. Are these the discs all I require to do this operation.

I am also worried that on non of the discs is the Microsoft Windows key reference number to install windows. Where can I get this serial number from?
I bought the machine new.

Answer:Ho to reinstall the OS on Satellite 1900 with Recovery CD

With your unit are delivered two different CDs. The first one is RECOVERY CD. This CD contains a ghost image and this ghost image contains WXP operating system, all necessary drivers, tools and utilities. Using this CD you can install whole OS in 20 minutes and WXP will be ready for usage without any additional installation.

Tools & Utilities CD contains drivers, tools and utilities. Toshiba prepare this CD for users who want to install own operating system. For example your notebook is delivered with WXP Home but if you want to have WXP Pro you can buy full version CD and install it. Later you can use T&U CD to configure the notebook hardware properly.

Like you can see the whole thing is very simply and you can do what you want.

Talk about confusing. Does anyone know how to get a Toshiba C660 working after the HDD has failed and the owner has stupidly NOT followed the instructions to make a recovery disk. Will the recovery disk ( if you purchase one from Toshiba ) rebuild the new HDD along with a new recovery partition and install windows 7 (original OS ) and accept the product key printed on the Windows License attached to the base of the laptop. I have read a number of suggestions but these have been deemed incorrect by others.

Surely Toshiba must have a way of sorting this problem.

Do they read these posts ?

Answer:Satellite L660-12Q - Would recovery disk rebuild the new HDD along with a new recovery partition

Hi buddy?

I don?t think that this is really complicated? I could find all info regarding the recovery procedure in the user manual?

The recovery disk has to be created at the first day of purchase? its recommended to create one in cases something would be wrong with the HDD.

The recovery disk contain an image?. Image is a package containing Win system, drivers, tools and all the stuff preinstalled on the notebook.
You purchased the notebook and the system was already activated so you don?t need the key placed at the bottom of the unit.
Furthermore the usage of recovery disk formats the whole HDD (partitions too) and set the notebook back to the same state like at the first day of purchase.

There is also another option to recover the notebook called HDD recovery. This HDD recovery does not need recovery disk. Usage of HDD recovery would format ONLY the C (system) partition.

I made 3 recovery CDs back when i first bought this computer. I want to install a new drive on the computer so i installed the new drive and now i am running CD1. I get Windows is Loading..... Windows splash screen....and a blue screen that has an hourglass pointer..REPEAT. Been like this for 30+minutes, dont think this is going to work. My question is this, maybe i had a bad CD, who knows. If not, do i need to format the drive first? I know Windows does this when you first install. Or do i need to partition the drive? I know HP recovery wants to put the image on a hidden partition so maybe that is it? Possible the CDs work if the original drive crash, but doesnt work if i install a new drive.

Answer:Reinstall Windows 7 from Recovery Disk Pavilion Slimline s53...

@auxiliary1 Is the new drive the same capacity as the old drive? If it is larger, that is OK, but if it is smaller, than can cause problems in the restore. Also, the restore reformats the drive automatically, so there is no prep you have to do. Have you tried doing a memory test? If not, press Esc repeatedly while rebooting, and once the HP utilities menu comes up, press F2 to run diagnostics.Good Luck

Hi there,

i have set the boot sequence to boot from cd, but the message reads: non bootable disk.

I have tried to open it with ghost but it wants a password.

Toshiba Satellite A60.

Answer:Satellite A60 - Recovery disk will not boot - error non bootable disk

First of all you will be not able to extract the ghost image file because it?s secured as you could see.

I don?t know why you cannot boot from the Toshiba Recovery CD. But a reason could be:
- The CD is faulty (scratch, not more readable)
- You used a wrong CD
- The CD/DVD drive cannot handle this CD due to the old and faulty drive laser lens.

So you should firstly check if you can boot from other Microsoft Windows CD to find out if the CD/DVD drive is ok.
If this is ok then there is a issue with your CD!!!

You need an 8GB USB stick for creating a recovery medium and preinstalled Toshiba recovery disk creator.

Yes, that?s normal and everything is ok with your notebook. Your HDD will be protected by HDD/SSD Alert utility that is a nice feature from Toshiba to avoid head crashes and can enhance the life of internal HDD.

I think if i recovery the original status of my english Windows Vista (Home) and upgrade to my portuguese version(Ultimate), I will not need to reinstall the drivers...

The Recovery disk was not provided with the notebook because there was a tool called Toshiba Recovery disk Creator which allows you to create a recovery disk!

If this is not possible, then you can check if the HDD recovery is available.

Answer:Lost the recovery disk, what can I do?

Is there a recovery partition on the computer? Open up My Comptuer and see if there's a second drive that has something like "recovery" in the name. If so, t hen you'll just have to watch when you start up your computer for something like "Press F11 to start Recovery" or something like that.

Otherwise, you may have to order new recovery disks from the manufacturer, or find a disc that matches your operating system (i.e. XP Home, Pro, etc).

If you are okay with erasing the contents of the hard disk drive, you can try booting to a Windows Command Prompt, running DISKPART.EXE, selecting the hard disk drive, and issuing a "clean" command, which will erase the disk so that the operating system can be reloaded.

Hello everyone, I am at a loss here. I have Lenovo H520s SFF Desktop and the hard drive failed, under warranty.  Lenovo sent a service tech to my home to replace Hard Drive and Reinstall Windows 8. The service tech started the reinstallation and left, told me to follow the prompts on the screen when prompted.  Well the installation failed.  I called Lenovo, they sent the same tech again and this time he replaced the motherboard too... During the days for this to occur, Lenovo sent me 3 recovery disk sets for installation of Windows 8.  - The install starts, and goes through but does not ever finish. I have tried all 3 recover disks sets and get the same problem. After calling Lenovo again, I was told it was a setting in the BIOS that needed to be changed, but the technician and the supervisor I spoke with could not advise me which settings to change because they were not reading the same BIOS I was when they were trying to walk me through it.  All I want is to reinstall Windows 8 on my Lenovo.  I have sent requests for BIOS updates to make installation easier, but honestly, they had to get it installed on the original hard drive in the first place, how is this so difficult now to reinstall Windows 8 on a clean hard drive.  Any advice will help....

Answer:Clean Reinstall of Windows 8 from Lenovo Recovery Disk Set Fails

hi tangatangs,
Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
From your observation, it looks like there's a problem with the recovery discs. To check, we're there any error messages when the recovery process failed (eg. Recovery process fails at disc #3 with an error preMOPS fail)?
Things that you can try:
1, Download the Windows 8 Enterprise ISO 90 day trial (you will need a microsoft account to get the download link and trial key).
2. Follow this guide on how to create a bootable Windows 8 installer (either via a disc or USB)
3. Boot into the BIOS by pressing F1 and set the following settings (if applicable):
Boot/Startup Tab:
UEFI = Disabled
UEFI Boot = Legacy First
CSM = Enabled
Security Tab
Secure Boot = Disabled
Exit Tab
OS Optimized Defaults = Other OS / Disabled
When done, insert the bootable Windows 8 installer that you have created on Step 2 and press F10 to save and exit. When the machine reboots, press F12 and select the appropriate device for the Windows 8 instaler (either via DVD or USB).
If the Windows 8 Enteprise (90 day trial) installs properly then you may need to contact lenovo one more time on how to go about getting the unit serviced (you most likely need to send the unit to the repair center for re-imaging as another copy of a recovery disc set may produce the same installation problem).
I've sent you a PM regarding informatio... Read more

I have read the threads on this forum, but I didn't come up with an exact answer to my problem.

With my regular PC I got a Vista Installation Disk, that also serves as recovery disk (like the one one could make with XP). One of the more useful things is that when you boot from that disk you have an option to "repair" the system, meaning that all vital files (like the bootloader...) will be restored, but for the rest all existing data wil remain. This is extremely important when for example you install a dual boot with Linux, when often Vista refuses to boot and repairing the bootloader solves the problem. Of course it can easily and quickly fix all kind of other system problems as well.

My Toshiba laptop A200 (otherwise a wonderful machine), came with the Toshiba Product Recovery disk. From all I have read on the forum and from what it says on the disk itself, I understand that it only allows for a total re-install of the whole system, factory-set, wiping out your whole disk and all on it.

Does Toshiba really leave us without a "repair" "option ??
I find that quite amazing, since after all I paid for the Vista operating system, so why shouldn't I get the options I would have if I had an original Vista disk?

If all above I is right, it means that if I want to install a dual boot with Ubuntu and would get a bootloader problem, I would loose all my data, when I only have to repair the bootloader?? (An issue that with the "repair" o... Read more

Answer:Satellite A200: Can I use Recovery disk without wiping disk

Hey Yossi

I think you have misunderstood something!

You have received the Toshiba Recovery CD with the Toshiba image! The image contains the Vista OS, Toshiba drivers, tools, utilities and additional programs!

Please don?t compare this disk to the original Microsoft Vista CD and don?t mix it!!!

So using this disk you can set the notebook back to the factory settings!!!
This is very useful because this procedure takes about 10min only and you get the whole functioning OS with all drivers, tools, etc?

Please note that no all users and customers who buy such notebook are technicians and computer scientists ;) but simply newbie and such recovery possibility is always welcome!!!

?but the usage of this Recovery CD formats the whole HDD and erases all partitions.
Therefore it?s advisable to backup the data before using the recovery CD/DVD

You can not use the Recovery disk designed for A215 because the A215 is simply different notebook model which need different drivers as the L305!

The image on the recovery disk contains the OS, drivers and tools and if you would use different recovery disk then wrong drivers would be installed on the L305 and this can lead to other troubles!!!

Hi All,

After having my initial problem of creating rescue disks solved beacuse of your help (Thanks again), I am at the point of formatting the harddisks of the 300. After that I would like to make a clean Ubuntu installation.
But I must admit that I am rather nervous about this all.

Therefore 2 questions:

1. Has anybody done this before and how did it work?
2. Would I be able to get the M300 back to specs using the reinstall disks, AFTER formatting the HDD

Thanks beforehand!

Answer:Will Recovery CD reinstall Satellite M300 correctly after formatting HDD

I have done this on other notebook model but the principle is always the same. You can do this. Install what you want. Later using recovery DVD you will have ?factory settings? again.

When the HDD is deleted you cannot make HDD recovery using repair option. You can do this using DVD only. Before you do anything test recovery procedure with created DVD to see how it works.

You can also start HDD recovery procedure to see how this will work too. simply te get some feeling about all this stuff.

Be sure to create a password reset disk NOW before you need it, and keep it somewhere safe. If you change your password, you'll need to make a new disk. If you don't create the disk before you need it, if you ever do need it, you'll be out of luck because you cannot create the disk without knowing the password.

Answer:TOSHIBA HDD recovery disk lost!

I wouldn't worry about it. Just install and run (on a regular basis) a disc imaging utility - it is the best recovery option available and everyone should use one. Acronis True Image is the best but it isn't free. These are:

Answer:Qosmio F30-112 - Recovery disk lost, what to do now?

Hi 00iqra00,

If your recovery disk is lost you can only contact an authorized service provider and ask for a new one. Maybe they have still one or can order it from Toshiba directly?

Alternative you can install Windows from a Microsoft disk. After this download and install all drivers from the Toshiba website.

I'm trying to reinstall Windows XP on my Satellite A10 but I lost the recovery CD.
I got a "normal" Windows XP installation CD I'm trying to use to reinstall but the installation won't take the serial number on the botton of my laptop....

Do you know what's a workaround for this?
And in last instance how to get a copy of the installation CDs.....

Best Regards

Answer:Satellite A10: I lost Recovery CD - How to get one?

The key which can be found on the bottom of the unit is only an OEM key.
This means that it works only with the OEM version which were preinstalled and delivered together with the notebook. Simply said, you cannot use this key with other Windows OS.

If you want to reinstall the OS from the original Windows CD then you have to use the key which belongs to this CD!

At the other hand you can order a new recovery CD from the ASP in your country.
Just contact the guys. They could help you to order it.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A55-S1065 that I recently replaced the harddrive in, and when I try to use the recovery disks it keeps failing at various points with the A:/ghost error, even though this machine doesn't have a A drive

I really need help can anyone?

Answer:Satellite A55-S106 A:/ghost error when using recovery disks to reinstall OS

Apparently from my research into this problem on all of that years toshiba recovery disks they are set to automatically try and find a floppy drive, even when there isn't one.
I've copied the recovery disk onto a new disk, still dosen't work.

I've reinstalled the harddrive to make sure the connection is good.
I don't have another windows disk to try, does anyone have any advice for me?
It's very strange.

Can anyone help?

This question has been asked before, but the answer is as follows:

On this forum you can use ?Advanced search ? option to find some solutions if someone wrote about it before.

Anyway check this please

I checked this and it gives an answer how to create a partition but not how to reinstall xp in the c drive from the recovery disk.

There is the choice to go to expert, but once there I have no idea what to do. Lots of potential settings, but nothing to say how to reinstall xp without wiping out all the other drives.

Thanks for any help

Hi My son lost his toshiba recovery disk to a 1415 S-173 it uses windows xp
since the loss his laptop has caught a virus that has left it virtually useless .
the virus seems to be gone but many options are lost including the ability to move cursor button to the next line an so fourth ..
my question is this if I buy a new windows XP operating system will this fix my problem will this remove the old xp os system an replace it with a working one or do i need specifically the toshiba disk to fix this..not worried if i lose some progroams just want his internet service back so he can stay off my pc .
thank for any advice

Answer:toshiba laptop lost recovery disk what to do

if you buy a new windows and install it, it will wipe the whole hd and install your windows on it. This will get rid all the files on the hd.. This will remove the virus and whatever you have on the laptop, so all your files and such. When you install the new windows, make sure you choose format to format the HD to ensure the HD got wiped clean. Then proceed to windows installtion. AFter it's done, go to toshiba's website and download the needed driver for your system.

How do i remove or change my windows vista administrator password without a set up disk or recovery disk when the only user showing is administrator? Thanks

Answer:lost administrator password and no set up or recovery disk

What type of computer do you have? Was Windows Vista pre-installed by the manufacturer, for example like a Dell, HP, Gateway computer?

Or, was it a generic, home or custom-built computer?

Since Windows XP, the next O/S's don't allow you to boot to Safe Mode and log on that way, to remove passwords.

You were advised by the software to create a Password Reset disc.....many people do not do that, though.

About the only safe, or legal way around this is to reinstall. You can use a borrowed disc, provided you match the License your computer has, to the disc you install from.

A Full System Recovery will also work but I am not sure a Repair Install would.....perhaps.

Keep in mind that you will most likely lose the hidden partition recovery, if you choose to do a full manual reinstall, using the regular Microsoft Windows Vista DVD that matches your License. It will require a format of the drive and you will lose your own files, so you can connect the drive to a working computer to rescue them before you wipe it out.

My 5130M HP laptop needs a re installation and I cant find the OS recovery disk. The OS is Windows 7 professional 32bit. Is it legal to download an ISO and use it? If yes, where can I download one with the latest service pack?

OS recovery disk may not be a win 7 dvd. it may just contain the files to "recover" the existing image on the recovery partition. Plus the OEM OS installed would need an OEM win 7 dvd to re-install. Your current key would not work on a retail version.

Is this even legal to do? I'm currently in India and cannot get the disk shipped here for obvious reasons. HP India does not have the recovery disks and suggested I contact HP USA. HP USA said that they cannot ship to India.

I know how to burn an iso and install the OS but the greater issue is how do I validate my windows my key mentioned on the windows coa sticker?

Has anybody done this? If yes how do I proceed? Thanks!

I had two partitions at my HD (Satellite L30-114).

I used the Toshiba recovery Cd to restore windows at my laptop. The CD did not offered me any Full or Expert modes as written here It just recovered without any input from my side!

After recovery, Windows does not see my second partition. I used disk management utility and it says there are 17 GB of unassigned disk space (this is my second Partition!).

Can and how can I restore it?

Tx a lot!

Answer:Partition lost after recovery - Satellite L30

It seems that the L30 was delivered with a new version of recovery cd.
I think the Recovery procedure is a little bit different as the old one with the 2 different recovery modes (standard and expert)

I know a little bit about the new recovery procedure because a friend of mine bought a new Satellite with this recovery CD. He asked me for the notebook installation and we have checked it.

It seems that you have to press the ?Setting? button after choosing the language.
If you don?t use the ?setting? button for the configuration so the recovery procedure will delete and erase everything on the HDD. I think you didn?t configure the settings and therefore all partitions were deleted.

Unfortunately I think there is no much to do. You partition was deleted and it?s not possible to bring back the lost data.

Hi there, my son has lost recovery disc 1 for his Satellite P10.
We have got disc 2 (drivers) but not disc 1.

Where can we obtain another recovery disc 1. and what will it cost approx .

Message was edited by: merdat

Answer:Re: I lost recovery disc 1 for Satellite P10

Usually you could order it from the ASP in your country but I?m not quite sure if you will be able to order such disk because the P10 is an older notebook series and possibly the recovery disks are not more available for this model.

However, you should contact the ASP in your country to get a confirmation.
Maybe you are a lucky man and the CD is available.

Good luck
