Satellite L45 Recovery stops at 17% - ERROR: 10-FC12-045D - Recovery error

Question: Satellite L45 Recovery stops at 17% - ERROR: 10-FC12-045D - Recovery error

Well, the other day, my L45 froze up, so I restarted it - to find that an OS file was missing.

So I tried the system restore, and it ran until the end where it said it had a problem and closed.
Then I tried the recovery discs. It ran all of disc 1, moved on to disc 2, started restoring, and then stopped at 17% restored.
I tried the discs several more times and it always stops at 17% and gives me "ERROR : 10-FC12-045D" - "Recovery error".

I have looked everywhere for what this error is specific to, but have gotten no results.

Preferred Solution: Satellite L45 Recovery stops at 17% - ERROR: 10-FC12-045D - Recovery error

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite L45 Recovery stops at 17% - ERROR: 10-FC12-045D - Recovery error

I really do not believe you can find explanation for this error because Toshiba use RECO software for OS installation. My experience says that in such case there are two possibilities: either is recovery CD/DVD defective or the HDD make some problems.

I recommend you to obtain original Microsoft installations CD and try to install clean Windows to see if the installations procedure ends properly. If not maybe is really HDD defective and after 17% there is some defective sector.

Check it out. Anyway I recommend you to contact authorized service provider in your country. They can say for sure what is wrong there.

I have done a few factory recoveries on my Toshiba l455 running windows 7 home premium. It stops at 47% and at first I was getting an ERROR: F3-F200-0002. This last time it stopped at 47% again but this time I got an ERROR: 10-FC12-045D. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP. I DON'T HAVE THE $ TO TAKE IT A COMPUTER REPAIR PLACE. I AM FREAKING OUT!!!!

Answer:toshiba l455 factory recovery error 10-FC12-045D

You first need to test for a hardware problem that could be causing the problem.Run Memtest from a bootable CD you create from the ISO image you download. Then you boot to it and let it run through all tests. ANY errors are reason enough to replace the memory though you can repeat the test with one stick of memory at a time to confirm. it passes the memory test, you need to test your hard drive. You need to use the utility from your hard drive mfg or Seatools from Seagate and run the Long test. Minor errors can be fixed by the utility, but major ones or too many smaller one and you will need to replace the hard drive. If both test OK and the factory restore still does not work, or if you need to reinstall onto a new hard drive and you did not make a set of recovery disks (you should have), you will need to purchase a recovery disk set from Toshiba.Of course, if you are under warranty still, stop after the tests and contact your warranty center. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Hi all,

I have a friend's satellite P750 that i am trying to recover.

At the 100% mark on recovering via the recovery sector on the hdd, it comes up with "recovery error 10-FC12-0017 .

This has happened after 4 attempts. I have run hard drive software on it and it seems to show up no problems with the hdd.

Could any one point me to what could be causing the problem?
I have searched here with no similar issue on this model.

Answer:Satellite P750 Recovery error 10-FC12-0017

I found a thread in US forum which describes the same error message.

The 10-FC12-0017 recovery error appears if the HDD isn’t fully OK

I think you should try to replace the HDD

Answer:How to fix error code 10-fc12-045d

This is a Toshiba error code.
Are you running Toshiba recovery disks on the Toshiba machine for which they were designed?

While running a full system recovery from the Recovery Media, the installation may fail -- and display one of the error messages listed below.
Use this list as a troubleshooting guide -- not as an absolute list of causes, as there may be others.

"An error has occurred. ERROR :10-FC12-045D" -- may be caused by a faulty hard drive.Click to expand...

I would suggest running chkdsk, or else the utilities available from the maker of your drive... Toshiba?
Note not all drive makers have such utilities, but many do... and since this is a Toshiba error code, I have given you the link to their tools.

It appears that replacing the drive is often, but not always, the solution:
but (Imho) diagnostics should be done to make sure this is even needed, as (it seems) other things may give this error too.

My Satellite L300 is 3 months old and a couple of days ago I had to resort to using the 4 recovery DVDs.
After several hours I get an Error: 10-FA1Z-045D message. I have made 3 attempts and get the same message each time.

Any suggestions?

Answer:Satellite L300 - recovery ends with error message: 10-FA1Z-045D

My only suggestion to this is you should contact nearest authorized service provider as soon as possible. I don't know for sure what the problem can be but it must be either HDD issue or some problem with recovery image.

In both cases you will get free service and if necessary service can order new recovery installations DVD for you.
Don't wait too long and vase your time with it. Call nearest service tomorrow and talk with them.

Used TOSHIBA RECOVERY MEDIA DISK to bring the system to factory state. The recovery media copied files and at the end gave me this error. *10-FC12-0241* and ask me to click on OK to exit. After I click on OK, the system restarted and gave me the following error message *F3-F200-0002.*
When checked with Technical Support, I was told that it could be Hard disk issue. So I bought a new hard disk,
**Seagate Momentus ST9750420AS 750GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive**
and tried the same process.
Every time, it gave the same error messages.

Any solutions please.

Answer:Satellite L300D - Recovery disk stops with error message

That?s a long story, buddy?

It?s not easy to say what the reason is for this but for me it sounds like that there is something wrong with the HDD. In your case I would format the HDD before you run the recovery disk. You can do this with a Microsoft disk to format the whole HDD. After this try the recovery disk again.

If it doesn?t work you should check the HDD with a special HDD diagnostic tool like Drive Fitness Test. Use Google to find it, it?s freeware and takes only few minutes.

I ordered Restore Media, USB recieved, followed procedure.
After 3 hours it tels me there is an error 1117. a Retry has started automattically. After 1 hour again Error 117 and the process stops.
I made an image of the screen

What can I do?

Answer:Recovery process stops Error 1117 Satellite C650

What you can do about that? I’m afraid not much.
As far as I know either it works or not and there is no some kind of “workaround”. You cannot force recovery installation to end installation.

Either is recovery image saved on USB defective or your notebook is the troublemaker, HDD maybe.

I presume you have started recovery image installation several times, right?
Does error message occur always after 41% of installation?

My two-year old Satellite C75-A-14X suffered a major hard drive crash a few weeks ago. My data has been backed up, but I've been unable to repair my PC, and as I hadn't created any recovery media, I bought a system recovery USB stick from Toshiba. I received the USB stick today and attempted to restore my laptop to its factory default settings. I left my laptop to perform the recovery for about an hour or so. When I returned, the screen said that there was an error (I didn't make a note of the error code) and the recovery had failed. Now, when I restart my laptop I get a blue screen with the following text:

Your PC needs to be repaired

A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed.

Error code: 0xc000000f

You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer.

Press Enter to try again
Press F8 for Startup Settings
Press Esc for UEFI Firmware Settings"

When I press Enter or F8, my laptop remains on the blue screen with the above text. Pressing Esc is the only option at this screen that works. How can I re-attempt restoring factory settings from the recovery USB stick?

I'm really not good in computers and things, but I'll try my best to describe the error in my laptop:

I have a Satellite A200 (with Vista) I bought about 4 months ago here in Australia. It has a virus last week, so I made the recovery disk on 2 brand new blank DVDs using the Recovery Disk Creator and the creating process ran smoothly with no glitches.

Straight afterwards, I ran the recovery disk in what I think is called the boot menu? Anyway, after a couple of minutes I kept getting an error message that has something to do with "Preinst.swm file". After a few times of clicking "continue" and seeing this same error message, clicking "skip", and running the 2nd DVD, an error message shows "Error: F3-F000-0008".

Now I'm assuming that the preinst.swm error message is due to probably a scratch in the recovery disk, or some fault in the DVDs that I used and not with the actual laptop itself. I just need confirmation from you guys about this.

I'm guessing the best way to go about is just to get another Vista recovery disk (from the shop I bought the laptop from) then? Or is there another way to solve this problem that I can do before heading off to the experts? I use this laptop for work so really - no laptop, no work done!

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite A200: Recovery error - Preinst.swm file Error: F3-F000-0008

Really not easy to say why the recovery procedure does not work.
But for me one thing is clear.
If you have 2 recovery DVDs, you have to boot always from the first one!!!
If you will boot from wrong DVD, you will get always an error message.

In my knowledge the Toshiba notebooks for European market are delivered together with all necessary CDs/DVDs and the Recovery medium is always in the package.
I don?t know why Toshiba Australian didn?t send the Recovery DVD together with the notebook. Maybe the Recovery DVDs are simply to available and they provide only option for a recovery creating?. Who knows...

However, it?s worth to try contacting the authorized service provider in your country and to ask if you can order a new Recovery CD for you notebook.

Good luck and best regards

My Laptop lost function a while ago due to some unknown errors. I managed to get most of the data out through safemode and have transfered them to my desktop.

The problem I am having now is repairing my laptop. I have since lost my receipt and therefore unable to claim warranty; but I figured I could restore my computer to its factory state with the recovery disk I created. The original problem and the one I am facing can be seen here...-> <-

As you can see from that thread, the recovery disk didn't work. So based on the advice I received I went to a Toshiba authorised computer repairs centre today and they replaced my Hard Disk Drive with a Fujitsu SATA 120GB. I then attempted to use the recovery disk but ran into a few hiccups. 1) A BSOD comes up randomly during the restoration i.e. During image copying it would pop up... sometimes it would pop up when it is finalising the recovery. 2) Sometimes, the BSOD will be bipassed and instead, an error would come up at 3% of installation finalising saying that img could not be copied from HDD to C/:! 3)Sometimes an image.exe application error would come up saying 'The instruction at 0x77c45a20 referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be written. Click on OK to terminate the programme.'

NOTE: None of the these problems occur in the same recovery trial. But they DO come up randomly and when they do, I have to ... Read more

It?s not easy to say what the reason is for this. It could be a faulty RAM, mainboard or maybe the HDD again. So it could be bad luck that the new HDD is also faulty?

I think you should test something on your notebook with special diagnostic tools.
With the Drive Fitness Test you can test your HDD. Download the CD image, burn it on a CD and boot from it. Then you can test the HDD.
On the same website is a user guide if you want to know more.
Memtest86 is a diagnostic tool to check the RAM. There you can also download a CD image.
It?s easy to use. Run the test 3-4 hours and then you will see if the RAM has some errors.

After this post your result. Maybe one the tests can find an error.
If not you should try it with a Microsoft installation disk. Maybe the recovery disk is scratchy or so?

In you can?t find something you should go to the ASP again. Speak with the technicians and explain the situation. I think they will try to help you as fast as possible.

Hello people!

Well i've had my Toshiba A100 Satellite for nearly 1 year, and I've got these un-removable spyware and ad-aware. But besides that, i want to reformat my pc but i can't. When i choose the cd-rom drive for the booting device, it loads RAM disk image, it comes up with an instant message and then it disappears, but I noted to see F6 and so I reloaded the DVD again and I spammed F6. And this is what comes up:

"Setup could not determine the type of computer you have, or you have chosen to manually specify the computer type.
Select the type from the following list, or select 'other' if you have a device support disk provided by your computer manufacturer.

ACPI multiprocessor PC
ACPI uniprocessor PC
Advanced configuration and power interface (ACPI)PC
NPS uniprocessor PC
NPS multiprocessor PC
Standard PC

I was thinking, if i use System Mechanics or something else, can i just reformat with that fully and then i use the toshiba recovery cd and i'm thinking that the cd will have windows xp. Can i just install windows xp from there and then get all the toshiba utilities off the download site and install them? Or like does it have to install the display drivers with the recovery cd or i can't see anything and i will stuff my pc up? Lol usually everytime i try sumfin to help my pc i usually wreck it. So i still got warranty so i might even take it back to there. But i would appreciate it if you guys could help.

Answer:Recovery error on Satellite A100

Hello Adam

Honestly, your posting is so complicated and confusing for me that I will just try to explain you how you can install OS on your Satellite A100.

If you want to install operating system you can do this on two ways:
- Use delivered recovery DVD put it in ODD and shut down the unit. Switch it ON again and immediately press C button. Keep it down for a short time and the ODD will be forced to be first booting device. When installations procedure starts just follow menu on the screen.
- You can use Microsoft installations CD (full version). Install OS and after that you must install all drivers, tools and utilities manually. All stuff you can find on Toshiba download page under ? Support & Downloads

Before you format HDD try to create own Tools & Utilities CD. This option you can find under Toshiba Assist ? Protect & Fix tab.

That?s all! If I have misunderstood something please post again.

Hi There,

I initially created a recovery USB stick and after my first Toshiba HDD died I was able to successfully re-install Windows when booting to the USB stick and installed it onto a WD Black HDD.

Now the WD disk has failed too (what are the chances...) I am trying to recover using the USB stick again but this time to a Crucial SSD.

When I boot up the USB I select the language and then it starts doing a bit of initializing but then it asks me to "insert recovery medium #1". I didn't have to do this the last time, all I needed was the USB stick.

Can anyone help me with this?

Answer:Satellite A30 recovery stops after 15%

Hi Takis,

The most likely cause of this behaviour is a faulty hard drive. When the recovery process reaches the faulty area of the drive platters it will retry several times but will then shut down the notebook.

If you have access to any disk utilities (such as Norton Disk Doctor) you could try a surface scan of your hard drive to check for defective sectors.

Is the CD scratched or dirty?

You may need to replace it, they can be ordered from Toshiba.

Faulty memory or a faulty HDD can also cause an error during recovery.

You can test the memory using Memtest from
You can test the HDD using a HDD tester such as Hitachi DFT (search google)

These Bootable utilities can be put onto a CD or Floppy Disk.

I have a problem with my notebook

When I restart my notebook, it tends to be stuck on this windows error recovery screen. It gives me two options
1) Lauch Start Up Repair
2) Start Windows Normally

Tried both, than it shuts itself down, reboots than it ends up on the same screen again and again. Tried to access it via safe mode to no avail. tried to repair it via windows 7 disc, didnt work. tried last good configuration, no good either.

This is the screen I always end up on and it doesnt go any further than this.

Please can anyone show me some direction as to how do I go about in fixing this problem. I am a freshman at college, I don't have any money to take it to a professional. Therefore am trying to fix it myself as I need it urgently.

Now when i attempt to boot it says 'Please Insert System Disk and press any key' i do so but i just get the same message repeated. It does this is if i try to book from the hardrive or the cd.

Whats my next step, how can i get my computer back!?

Answer:Error with Product Recovery. Now won't boot. Satellite Pro A40

Hmmm? it?s not easy to say why you couldn?t finish the installation. For me it looks like the Recovery CD would be faulty.

Anyway, the message says that no OS was found on the HDD and the notebook cannot boot up!
So what to do? I think you should insert an original Windows XP CD and try to boot from the CD. The XP CD should format the HDD and should install the new OS.

Sorry, but I don?t see other possibility.

I have a two-disc set of Vista SP1 disks for my A305-S6992E.

I was trying to upgrade the HDD to a larger one, and bought a HDD and installed it.
I put the recover disk in and clicked to return the computer to factory settings.

It took a long time, reading data from the disk, then creating files, and finally installing.
The computer reboots, I get the little scrolling green bars while Vista loads, it gets to the pretty blue-green screen, and it says "please wait while windows continues setting up your computer..." then I get an error dialog that says:

+The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation.+

I've read several forums stating to use the F8 option at boot to repair, but repair is not an option on the Boot menu. My choices start with Safe Mode and end with Start Windows Normally.

I've tried re-running the recovery disc program, and messed with some variants (with and without re-partitioning, checking memory, etc.) but it always comes back to the same place and stops with the same error.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Answer:Satellite A305-S6992E recovery error

Hi mate

You said that you have upgraded the HDD.
Did you notice the same installation issue using the old HDD?
Please check this! This would be helpful to find out if the new HDD could be the problem.

I would also recommend checking the BIOS.
There is a option (or should be) called SATA mode. Try to set it to compatible mode and then try to install the OS again?

Good luck

Right, I have a Toshiba Satellite 2430-402 (bought from new)for at least 3 years old. I have formatted it several times before and re-loaded windows back on without any problems til now.

The problem only started two days ago when I noticed my CD Drive wasn't been recon. So I decided to format etc, got out the Recovery Utility disc that came alone with the Computer to install everything, and it won't go past 12%. I am greeted with ****** Application Error 437
Cannot read from file"

I am left really stuck and can load nothing. I have fdisc / formated /spinrite / kill disc the hard-drive just in case there were something nasty on there and can still get nowhere. This is the first time I'm really stuck.

Could this be the CD Rewriter or could it be the Hard-disc or basicly the computer is nakered. I have inspected the Recovery disc's, and they are all clean!

Or would it be because I did a bios update (mind you, that were weeks ago)

Anybody please

Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite 2430-402: Application Error 437 during recovery

in my knowledge the Ghost image files are placed on the Toshiba recovery CD.
Therefore I have investigated little bit on the support website of the ghost manufacture.
It?s Symantec and found this information site: hm&lg=en&ct=us

According to this page this problem appears to be due to starting the computer incorrectly when using Ghost with GoBack on the computer.
This problem can also happen when you use a brand or type of CD that does not work well with your CD-R or CD-RW device. In this situation, Windows or DOS might be able to read information on the CD that other applications cannot.

My Toshiba M70-395 gave an error message when turning stating it could not read the hard drive. PC World advised before trying to replace the hard drive I try the recovery disk. Tried this but after in started up and did a few things in gave me an error message 'recomBR DELETE error' and won't continue.

Does this mean I'll need a new hard drive? Just past its 1 year warranty (B bought in Aug 2006) . Any advice welcome?

Answer:recomBR DELETE error when using recovery CD on Satellite M70-395

I cannot say much about this error message because I have never noticed something like that during the recovery process.
Fact is that it should be possible to recover the notebook using the Toshiba recovery CD.
If it?s not possible to recover the notebook then there must be a hardware fault.

Due to the fact that the HDD cannot be recognized I presume the HDD is dead and you will need a new one!
I think there is no other solution as to replace the HDD with a compatible one and to perform the OS installation from the recovery CD.

Best regards and good luck

Hi All,

Having a heck of a time with this darn laptop. So I've purchased the recovery dvd. tried to boot from the disk and comes up with no bootable OS. Thinking there might be a problem with the optical drive, I've created a bootable usb key.

Got the usb key to boot up

So then I goto Toshiba Recovery Wizard
Press yes to say it'll obliterate the drive.
Recovers factory default software
right at the end I get an error message

Error: 003
Recovery Error

Press ok to start the computer

You can see the final screen here.

Can anyone plleeaaaseeee help.

The only thing I can think of is that perhaps when I created the USB boot stick I should then copy disk2 onto the stick as well using xcopy/

Answer:Satellite Pro L870-172 Error 003 When Recovering from DVD Recovery

I think there are several reasons for the error.
The recovery media or the hard drive may be defective. Wrong BIOS settings, etc...

I would recommend you to check once again the bootable Toshiba Recovery disk.
I don?t think that there could be a problem with the optical disk drive.
From my point of view it could be a wrong BIOS setting.

The Satellite Pro L870-172 was preinstalled with Win 8 system.
Please check the secure boot as well as the UEFI boot mode option within the BIOS.

Usually in order to be able to boot from different boot devices, the secure boot should be disabled.

I have a recovery disc for my laptop that was provided at the time of purchase, and which I've previously used with no problems. However, now when I try to use it I receive an error message that the file setenv.ini cannot be found. I'm not sure why this is as the disc worked perfectly last time!

Thanks for any assistance.

What Satellite L450D do you have exactly?
I?m wondering why you received the recover disk because the notebook?s would not be supplied with the recover disk. The European notebook models are preinstalled with an tool called Toshiba Recovery Media Creator. This allows you to create the recovery disk.

Are you able to recover the notebook using HDD recovery?

Hi all,

I have been given a Satellite A210 (second hand, about two years old) by a friend. The laptop is not working at the moment. When the laptop is switched on it displays a message "Missing Operating System". I have tried using the recovery disk that came with the machine but it's no use. I keep getting the same message "Error restoring image"
ERROR= ImageX could not apply VISTA F=\05853XSP.swm Index 2 from ODD to C=\! Press any key to continue, and that's as far as it goes. Now being a second hand machine i'm not sure what is working and what is not.

Any ideas on where to go from here would be very much appreciated.

During recover I am getting 'Error: 10E7160001'. It gets as far as 90 % of disk two and then stops and gives message that an error has occurred. It has a 'ok' button to shutdown.

If you restart you get a blue screen and then it reboots. It is a friends laptop and he brought it to me to fix. It is a Satellite L35-S1054 laptop.

Thanks for your time!

Answer:Satellite L35-S1054: Error: 10E7160001 during recovery

I thought I would help some by adding a little more info.

The laptop had or has some virus's that we are trying to remove by running the recovery CD. I was able to run the recovery CD only after I selected an option that didn't delete the partitions. I tried reseting the boot order so that the cd/dvd rom boots first, but it reset itself so the harddrive is first again.

I don't know if this is a function of a Toshiba laptop that requires this or the actions of a virus that is trying to keep the harddrive listed as the first boot device. I don't know. After I ran the recovery it still is having problems which leads me to believe that the virus is still there. I decided to install Linux and it couldn't do anything with the windows partion and therefore couldn't install.

Is there a way to reset the BIOS?

Hi ClementLo,

I don?t know when you exactly get this message but theoretically it could be a problem of the HDD. Maybe it has defective sectors and should be replaced?

Can you also test the same using a Microsoft disk? Maybe the disk is scratched?

I have a satellite pro 210 (bios v1.6) in which the HDD recently died.

I purchased a new WD Scorpio Blue 250Gb HDD and ran the recovery disc (I did exactly this for a friends Equium a month or so back and all worked flawlessy!)

All worked fine until the first re-boot, went through the usual stuff:
please wait a moment while windows starts for first time
Then a windows background, spinning cursor with please wait message, plenty HDD activity
Then the sudden error:
"Windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware"*

Does anyone have any ideas what this could be?
A google search suggested bios sata settings, but I can't see any in the bios setup page.
I see there is a new v2 bios for download - would this help?
If so how can I install it when the computer won't start vista? Or any other suggestions?

Thanks for reading.

Cheers, Stephen

Answer:Satellite Pro A210 - recovery error after new HDD installation

The SATA driver is not needed if you use the Toshiba Recovery disk because the image on this recover disk contains the SATA driver.
So there must be other reason for that.

In your case I recommend setting the BIOS to default settings and to start the recovery procedure once again.
Maybe something went wrong during the OS configuration? so second installation is worth a try?

I bought a new toshiba laptop 1 year ago and have had no problems untill now. My laptop has started slowing down, becoming un responsive and the fan is on constantly. then my laptop decides to crash and I have to reboot. When it has turned on it will not let me login, I have left it for days now and tried again many times but no success. I have asked many friends and computer experts to have a look but none have the answer.

I took advice from some of them and decided to try and restore my laptop with the provideddisk. It clears the hard drive fine but when it get to the part where it starts installing the operation system it gets to part 2 of 7 and then comes up with error cannot find file to copy. I don't know what file it is because it doesn't specify but after I press spacebar like it says the screen goes blank. I have left it like this for hours to see if anything happens but i eventually turn it off.

I think that it might be the disk but I dont see how because it is brand new and has not been used before. Just in case it is the disks I was trying to find out how to get another one but can't find the option on the Toshiba website.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

After reformatting my laptop the toshiba recovery discs will not reload windows because it says i do not have enough room on my hard drive.

The error message is as follows:
There is not enough space on S3A6134D502. You need an additional 2.34 GB to copy these files.
Space free: 1.42 GB
Total size: 1.46 GB

It seems that it created a new partition that makes it not possible to load windows on because the partition is too small.

Answer:Recovery disc error on Satellite A200 - not enough space

Problem is that you have changed ?standard? settings for recovery procedure.
First partition on the HDD is so called ?WinRE? partition and this partition has 1,5 GB capacity.
When you start recovery procedure and just click on OK or NEXT everything will went well.

I presume you have chosen ?Setup? option and there clicked on second option to install OS on existing partition.

What you probably want to do is to install OS on partition C only in hope second or all other partitions will not be deleted or formatted. Right?
I have tested it several times on P200 and A200.

This will not work so only option is to erase whole HDD and before recovery installation starts all existing data and partitions will be deleted and formatted.
So before you start OS installation backup all important data and install OS without changing anything.

I have a laptop from a client, that is a Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-239, and i'm having a strange issue.

The original hard disk failed, and as the laptop is out of warranty, we bought a new hard disk, and ordered the recovery media to this model, from our local toshiba repair assistance.

After the setup copied the files to the disk, the imageX fails when restoring the image files with the error:

"the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable".

The hard disk is new, and i tried also with more 2 hard disks, and also with an external cd-rom drive.

I talked with the support from the local repair assistance, and they told me this occurs because the new hard drive ins't compatible with the recovery media?!

One of the new hard disks i tried, was the exact same model than the original hard disk, and the error still occurs, so the hard disk can't be the problem.

Is there any change of the recovery media is corrupted?

Could also be a motherboard problem?

Thank you

Of course this is possible.
In case the HDD is OK, the recovery media could be corrupted.

I don?t think so?. I presume the HDD is recognized in BIOS properly and the error message says something about corrupted directory. I guess the disk directory is meaning and I think media should be replaced.

Alternative you can restore the factory settings if you install Windows XP from a Microsoft disk and then you download and install all driver and tools from the Toshiba website step by step.

MySatellite A660 i7 1.73GHz with Windows 7 hang today on startup. When I restarted I would get to the start Windows in safe mode or run start up repair. Both option would hang. I would also sometimes get ERROR : F3-F100-0003.

I used my recovery disks (which I have used before with no problems) but on the first round it hung on the creating partitions. Now when I start I dont get BIOS only "BOOTMGR Missing Press Alt Ctrl Del to restart". When I press that I get a small blinking bar in the top left and nothing further.

I got this 8 months ago from JB HiFi.

Does anyone know what might be wrong or any way to fix it?

Answer:Satellite A660 (PSAW3A-07U00R) - Recovery error

The BOOTMGR error message you get because recovery installation didn?t finish properly. So no OS is installed and the computer can?t find Windows boot manager.

Either you get the recovery error message due scratched disk and so the files can?t be read properly or it?s hardware malfunction.

Easiest way to check this is installing Windows from a normal Microsoft disk. If this works it seems that the hardware is working properly but the recovery disk is the problem. All drivers and tools that you need after Windows installation can be downloaded on Toshiba website.

But if you want a new recovery disk you can order it here:

I have purchased a Toshiba Satellite L750/04P N XC 7944, for my son, we have tried to set up the recovery disks using both the Toshiba Recovery Media Creator and the Windows 7 system. So far I have used 5 DVD?s and can?t get past Disk one without an error.

When using Windows 7 an error comes up Gx8004005. Any suggestions.

I have created a backup and system image, I hope as I am never confident that they back up correctly.

I am not really providing any solution, but faced similar problem with my Satellite A300-1EI laptop, purchased in Dubai, UAE. I tried to make recovery discs through Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator. However, everytime, I got an error message. I tried with Verbatim, Philips DVD-R and lost several DVDs. Meanwhile on some net surfing, I found out that Toshiba DVD writer is a bit sensitive and try using Verbatim brand DVD-R. I tried with Verbatim 2 days ago and at the last moment when I was about to dance with joy that first DVD is created, received an erro message as below

*"The following issue occured while recording data to the disc.*
*The current process will be stopped.*

*A power calibration area error occurred.*
*Please check if the dics is scratched or dirty.*
*If so, please try again with a new disc.*

*(Error Code: 0E01B5-26-00037304)"*

I really do not understand the message. Can you advise on how to create the recovery discs.

Answer:Re: Satellite A300 - Error while creating Recovery Disk

For me it looks like the used DVD disks are not fully supported by ODD.
It seems to be a compatibility issue.

I had such issue in the past but I could solve it using another DVD from another manufacturer.
I made a good experience with TDK DVD-R.
Using the ?R disk I was able to burn the disk but using the +R I received an error.

Help please! What am I doing wrong?

Many thanks

What kind of blank DVDs you are using for creating Toshiba recovery disk?

Maybe the error is related to the disk? I have used Verbatim DVD-R mediums and had no problems to create the disks.

Have you already tried to start recovery installation from HDD? Go in advanced boot menu of Windows (F8) after you turned on the computer and select ?Repair my computer?.

If it doesn?t work you should bring it back to shop and ask for a replacement.

First of all, sorry about my English, but it's not my native language. About my technical problem is very simple: I am using Toshiba Satellite L300D-13b with Vista 32-bit. I was trying to create a recovery disc by useing Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator, but, when I start the program (Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator) gives me this error:
"Could not find HDD Recovery folder on second drive of the first hard disk. There is no valid HDD Recovery environment on this computer".

How do I create my Recovery Disc?

Answer:Recovery Disc Creator Error - Satellite L300D

New Toshiba notebooks are delivered without recovery CD/DVD and using Toshiba recovery creator tool you must create it alone. Toshiba has delivered notebook with ?factory settings?. that means recovery image is saved on second partition in folder called ?HDDRecovery?.

When you start Toshiba recovery creator tool it hold the data from this folder and burn it on empty media. If this folder is removed or deleted the application says clearly the folder/data is/are missing.
I don't know what you have done in the past but now you will not be Able to create this recovery DVD.

You can order new copy under
Of course it is not for free and you must pay for it.

My brother ordered me this laptop online from Best Buy for my christmas gift in Dec.2010. After I opened it up and started it up I then did the system backup to disks like It said to do. I showed that I needed 4 disc for the back up so after the fourth disc it said that it was finished. Ok, so now I know I have it backed up besides having the recover partition also.

So, within the last month I wanted to do a system recover on this laptop. So I pulled out the 4 discs and put in the first one and it did its thing and then asked for the 2nd and so on. Then after the fourth one was done it said to put in the next disc, but I dont have a fifth backup disc. It only had me use 4 when I first got this to back up.

So, I then gave up on the disc problem and restarted and got to the recover partition. So after I started the process on clicking ok to all the warnings about everything will be deleated I got to the first process of the install, and then after about 5 minutes it went to the next process of where it says "Copying Files", and after about 30 seconds a box pops up asking to insert the next disc.

So I called Toshiba and talked to the tech help and they told me to unplug everything on the laptop and then turn it over and take the battery out for a minute. And then plug the power cord back in and then put the battery back in and turn on the computer.
So after it started up it went to the BIG WARNING page about everything will be lost and deleated so I cliked... Read more

My computer has many corrupt files. I have done both sfc /scannow and chkdsk /r multiple times, but the corrupt files still remain. Unfortunately, my HP's recovery manager is also corrupt so I decided to do a full factory restore. Because I couldn't do a full factory restore from the computer, I ordered the discs from HP.
When ever I try to do a recovery from the boot menu (F8 or F11), I get the following error:

"Boot Manager:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware of software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

1.Insert your Windows installation disc and restart the computer.
2.Choose your language settings, and then click "Next".
3.Click "Repair your computer."

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

Status: 0xc000000f

Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible."

I insert the disc, but nothing happens. The computer returns to the same steps. I even tried going through control panel and Full System Restore. Again, I get the same steps. When I press enter, it allows me to boot Windows 7 or do a memory diagnostic test.

I appreciate any help.

I will try to be as precise as possible and give as much info as I can, but I'm not sure what info is inconsequential and what isn't at this point. But, here goes...

For 2 weeks I have tried to outsmart whoever it is that has had complete remote access to my laptop but changing as many admin permissions and incoming/outgoing connections that I could find to keep them out.

A couple of days ago, I did a system restore to factory settings, thinking this would do it. It didn't; he was still there. He locked me out of all admin tools yesterday.

I have a system recovery disc made about a year ago, and put that in my CD drive tonight, thinking I could completely reformat the drive and wipe him out. However, at start-up, I pushed F2 and came up with a screen that said something about running the disc from E drive (I apologize for not be able to give you specific language but I never thought it would get this far with no progress). However, under the line showing the drive it was booting from, there was another line that started "DETECTHAL /REDIRECT " then went on to say something about "redirect name" and redirect path", none of which sounded legit to me. And considering that this intruder had created so many other fake error/info msgs already, I didn't want to take the chance of this being something else that he had stuck in there.

I backed out of that reboot and restarted. I've subequently tried to restart over a dozen times from the CD, bu... Read more

Hi all Would need some help for the OKR. Currently using Y450 Situation :System came with 3 partitions, Large C: , Small D: , Service Partition [Pre-installed Vista]Copied whole service partition out onto a external HDD. Formatted Main HDD partitions without touching the service partition, then installed XP on my systemAfter the XP installation, C: Drive is my "Service Partiton" and i can see ALL files which is supposed to be hidden (don't ask me why, I don't know -.-)D: Drive is my XP System files and everything else (1 HUGE partition 480GB). So right now, when i try to create recovery disks selecting the file on myC: Drive "Service Partition" factory.wsi file, i keep hitting this error : OneKey RecoveryFail:  error code 0xE0DD001FAn internal program error has occured.  Also, my Optical Drive also seems to die off after hitting this error, I can't eject, read, anything at all! I have to restart the whole System to get it to work again, its as if the power to the optical drive just died.   I have applied all the possible updates/patches for OKR, still nothing works. How can i fix this?

Answer:Onekey Recovery error tring to burn Recovery Disks

1) You can't just copy the entire partition and expect the recovery process to work...2) You now cannot create your recovery disks because you have a) changed the partitions b) have removed the ability for the OKR partition to function.3) The only option you have now is to send your computer into the Depot and have them reimage your HDD... Also, while you are talking to them, ask them how to create a proper set of recovery disks through a backup and ask if they have Recovery disks they can send you... if they are available.

After trying to reinstall Windows from original recovery DVD my A80 stop working after 10 minutes from doing this.

I tried again for few more times and the problem is the same. Can't finish the installation, because is turning off every time after 10 minutes or so.

Do you have any ideea why is this happening?

Answer:Re: Satellite A80-135 - During recovery it stops working after 10 minutes

What do you mean with it stops working? Does the notebook freezes or you get an error message?
Does it happen with a Microsoft installation disk too?

It?s really hard to say what the reason is for this but try to load the default settings in BIOS before you start the recovery.

It could be also a problem of the HDD or RAM. You can check both components with Drive Fitness Test and Memtest86. Use Google to find both tools (freeware).

Dear All,

I order the recovery CDs (Win7 Home Prem. 64) and boot from Disc 1. After DOS box, windows starts but remains then with a black window.

Same effect when booting from harddisc (I try all repair possibilities).

Booting from the recovery CD on another PC works.
Removing the harddisc from the Satellite L755 and booting from the recovery CD works! (of course only until the recovery tool will have access to the harddisc :-) ).
Trying to have access on the harddisc via Linux bootable DVD works - so I have made a backup.

Do s.o. have a idea?
I do not think that a deletion of the win partition and a complete new install fix the problem...

Answer:Satellite L755 - Booting with recovery CD stops

The whole story is a bit confusing for me.
If you have tested all combinations try the last one: obtain other HDD, put it in your L755, set BIOS to default settings and try to install recovery image using recovery discs.

I'm in desperate need of assistance, hope someone can help me here.
On booting up laptop one day I got the dreaded ERROR LOADING OPERATING SYSTEM.

So I bought a recovery disk from the media shop for my laptop.

Now, I've tried all the F8 stuff but this doesn't work for some reason on this laptop.

Anyways, disk arrived and did exactly what it said on the back:
Insert disk and powerdown machine
Press F12 on boot up and select Optical Drive.

Right now when it powers back up, I get the WINDOWS IS LOADING FILES.
Then the MICROSOFT CORPORATION (with the bar above it), once this goes on a few seconds the CD/DVD drive stops and then get a black screen.

It doesn't go any further than that.
Tried restarting laptop without disk in, and all that is coming up then is
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

What do I do?????
Can I get hold of the Media Shop and tell them that the disk doesn't work? if so what is their e-mail address?????

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite L300 - Recovery disk stops

In my opinion it?s really hard to say what the reason is for this. It could be also an issue with the CD/DVD drive or the HDD.
So have you tested a Microsoft installation disk? You can try it with a XP or Vista disk from Microsoft. If you have booted from it try to format the HDD. Sometimes it?s necessary to format the HDD before you can use the Toshiba recovery disk. On this way you can also test if your CD/DVD drive is working.

If the Microsoft disk is also not working it could be a problem of the HDD. You can check the HDD with a diagnostic tool like Drive Fitness Test. Google is your friend to find it ;)

Good luck and if you have more questions, please let us know!

Enter BIOS settings, set default settings and try to install Vista again. If the same happen again contact nearest Toshiba authorized service provider and explain the situation. I am pretty sure they can test it with other recovery CD or test it with other HDD.

I have a Satellite M60 notebook which I formatted in 2007. At that time, I used a Product Recovery CD that I purchased from Tosiba Australia.
I now want to format my HDD again using the same CD, but this time when I boot from the CD, I get a "Wrong machine" error.
I assume that the information on my HDD has been corrupted which causes the utility to fail.

Can anyone provide me with any ideas on how to overcome this problem?

Answer:Re: Satellite M60 - Wrong machine error when booting from Product Recovery CD

>I have a Satellite M60 notebook which I formatted in 2007. At that time, I used a Product Recovery CD that I purchased from Toshiba Australia.
Sorry Richard but one thing is confusing for me. At this time every Toshiba notebook was delivered with recovery installations disc and it was in the box with brand new notebook model. I don't know where do you live and where you bought your notebook model but I don't understand is your notebook an Australian notebook model and you bought recovery CD in ?country of purchase?.

Recovery installations discs are specific discs created for certain notebook models. Before the recovery installations starts specific info on recovery disc will be compared to data saved on the notebook and just if the info matches recovery procedure will be continued. That means you cannot use recovery from some other notebook model and install it on your Satellite model.
This data is not saved on HDD and HDD is not relevant for this data check.

Usually when the notebook is repaired and mainboard exchanged technician must rewrite right information data. Sometimes this will be forgotten and a recovery installation ends with ?Wrong machine error?.

The question is: Was your notebook repaired in the past?

I have a Satellite Pro S300 the recovery partition has long been eliminated and the comp was working fine until I opened up a email supposedly from Fed Ex, MISTAKE!

Got a real bad malware virus.

So I bought a vista business recovery disk for my comp and wiped t.he hard drive. On install of the Vista I get a preinst5.swm missing on the first disk.

After I skipped the file I got a 10-fc06-0002 error on the second disk and a cancel out of the install.
I looked online for this error and many people have had the same problem. No one seems to know what to do.

I installed Vista Home Premium from a Dell recovery disk with no problems, however, when I tried to change the product key to the one on the comp I got the key was not good for the vista hp version.

So what to do.
I think Toshiba makes a good product but the recovery disk they sent me for $30 was bad.

I was thinking I could copy the disk on another computer and copy a good version of preinst5.swm and try to make a good recovery disk, but I don't have a lot of confidence in Toshiba software.

Hi there,

New to the forum, I've been having a search around so im hoping someone can help me.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A300-PSAGCA and while trying to resize a partition my computer became not responding and since then I cannot load Windows Vista. When the computer starts it comes up with the error "Interrupted operation: Insert Recovery CD"

So I used the recovery CD that was with my partition program however I get another error saying "Incorrect BIOS settings, change video buffer size" which I cant find in the BIOS and no help from their support.

So im now trying to do a Toshiba recovery and restory my laptop, however I cant seem to get into the recovery. Holding F8 during the boot doesnt bring up the advanced boot options, nor does holding "0" like ive read its supposed to.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Answer:Satellite A300 - Error incorrect BIOS settings during recovery

Hi buddy!

Wait a moment, please.
To restore the ?factory settings? you have two options. Either you use the HDD recovery option or the Toshiba recovery disk.

For the HDD recovery you have to press the ?0? key on start up and follow the screen instructions ? That?s all!

> So I used the recovery CD that was with my partition program?
I?m a little bit confused about this. What recovery disk you mean exactly? Is it the Toshiba recovery or from another backup program like Acronis or Ghost?
I can?t imagine that you can an error message about video buffer size if you start the Toshiba recovery disk. The video RAM size will be assigned automatically and it?s only important on 3D applications.

So I would recommend trying it with the Toshiba recovery disk and if it doesn?t work you can try a Microsoft disk. After this you can download all drivers and tools on the Toshiba website.

If you have more questions, please let us know! :)

Just one question;
Did you try to recover the unit or did you try to create an recovery disk?

To be honest I?m not quite sure about this error message but if this has happened during the system restore then you should repeat this procedure again.

I think its only an temporal error message?

Try to boot from the recovery disk again and check how it will run.

Good luck
