Express Media Player stopped working after Windows Recovery with partition

Question: Express Media Player stopped working after Windows Recovery with partition

Hi folks

I'm new to this forum. Hope to get some advice from you. I recently got an A100 laptop. It comes with Express Media Player (EMP) installed. Since my HDD is 160GB, I need to do some partition to protect my data should WinXP crashes and needed recovery. I used Toshiba's Windows Recovery CD to restore Windows into a 40GB partition and configured the remaining as an extended partition. The following is the final state of my laptop after that.
C: 40GB (contains WinXP)
D: ~108GB (for my Data)
I can see an unknown partition of ~250MB which is for EMP. I shut down my PC and turn it on using EMP button. It did not work! EMP fails to boot. Can you guys advise? Have anyone tried partitioning their HDD and getting EMP to work?

Preferred Solution: Express Media Player stopped working after Windows Recovery with partition

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Express Media Player stopped working after Windows Recovery with partition

Hi

Usually if you want to use the Express Media Player functions the Express Mediaplayer Recovery CD must be run before performing the recovery from the Recovery DVD-ROM.

You have to known that you cannot run Express Media player after performing a recovery!!!

But it seems you have not formatted the whole HDD and crated only the additional partition. Possibly you don?t need to reinstall the Express Media Player.

I have investigated a little bit on the Toshiba computer technical knowledge and found this:

In rare instances Windows XP starts up instead of the Express Media Player

Using Viista 32 bit. I purchased a turntable device with softare to transfer my vinyl LPs to the pc and then able to copy them to CD,
I loaded he software and started the first record.when the recording ended,i tried to play it back with the media Player but even though the file was showing in my music file,it would not play. After searching for a solution I discovered that the Media player was not respondin at all. I opened upMy Computer, located the file a selected play but nothing happened. Then I put a prerecorded Music CD in the drive and that too failed to come up in Autoplay and would not play if tried manually. I then tried DVD drive -that too would not read the disc. Uninstalled the new software, cleaned the registry with Registry Mechanic and tried System Restore, that too is not responding. If I select it,nothing comes up on the screen. If I try to run "rstrui.exe it comes up with ammessage that System Restore is already working.
Two problems - I feel thatbthey are related. Can anybody help me please ?
By the way.the turntable has been returned to the shop and I got a full refund.

Answer:Windows Media Player Has Stopped Working

Hi, mmcraig, and welcome to the forums.

I think you're missing an update somewhere - for example SP1....

My version is 11.0.6001.7000....

If you're hellbent on not installing SP1, then all I can suggest is to uninstall *all* codec packages that you might have installed, reboot into Safe Mode, then run SFC /SCANNOW, then reboot, then install Vista Codec Pack - 32bit & 64bit Media Player Codecs as you *only* codec package (note, there are two parts, the standard Vista Codec package, and the x64 components, which you install *after* VCP).

Windows Media Player stops working after playing one or two songs. A new tab titled "Migrate License Error" opens of its own accord. It says:
The license can not be downloaded because your Web browser is not supported.
To download a license, you must install Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 or later.

Help! I am running Vista Home Premium 64 bit, and my Windows Media Player gives a " Stopped Working" message every time I plug in a USB drive or and SD-card.

I've been unable to find a fix for this, and there is no way to uninstall/reinstall Media Player within Vista, at least not that I've been able to find. I work for a computer consultant firm, and even IT has shook their head at my problem.

Below is the Error from one of the many times it has stopped the Media player.

I would appreciate any help or suggestions.

Windows Media Player worked for a while on my Vista 2Core then stopped working. I listen to music a lot and like Media Player so this annoyed me a great deal. Finally I bit the bullet and upgraded to Windows 7 (Home Premium) and guess what -
"Windows Media Player Has Stopped Working" again, and Windows Media Center cannot play dvd's. I am
gobsmacked and $200 worse off. Windows 7 is supposed to be the greatest thing since sliced bread yet there is no fix or patch for the Media Center bug - everyone's complaining about this - just do a google search across the internet.
After hours searching I managed to find a link to email-assistance from Microsft,
with a $100 price tag! This is ridiculous.
Can someone please tell me what Microsoft are doing to remedy their worthless Windows 7/Vista Media Center? I run editions of Windows XP and the Media Player on XP has not failed me once,
not once!
Please advise, thank you.

I have had Windows for a long time and believe I have Windows Media Player 12 (but haven't found an about to confirm that).
I upgraded a long time ago to Windows 10 and the system has been working for many months.  However now when I click on various movie files (such as .mpa format) I get the error "Window Media Player has stopped working."  The player loads
and looks like it was start but then stops and ends up closing out.  I was able to get some other formats to run but other common video files seem to be causing the same error.  I like Window Media Player and would like to know how to fix/repair
it but haven't had any luck. (I don't believe I went through any recent automatic upgrades / patches so don't even know why this quit working).

Hi all,
I have been happily using Windows Media player 11 for nearly a year (since I purchased my Toshiba Tecra laptop) until about a week ago when it told me it encountered a problem while playing the file. Now I can't get audio from many other programs that use WMP as their audio player. So I thought I would uninstall and reinstall and it might be fixed!! No such luck. It actually doesn't uninstall - it rolls back to MWP10. And then you don't get an option to uninstall WMP10.

Since then I have tried a few things including installing another player -GOB - which didn't work either. It said something about needing DirectX7.0 or higher but I have v.9 installed so I'm not sure what's going on.

So far I've spent about 2 hours trying to read Tech support forums and the Microsoft knowledge base and no one seems to have any idea how to fix this.

Can anyone offer any suggestions? I'm hoping I don't have to reinstall Windows XP to get it working again...

Thanks in advance...

Click start>control panel>add/remove programs. Top right you will see a little box that says show updates, make sure it is ticked.

Scroll down and under software updates, remove everything containing Windows media player 11.

Then reboot.

Then click this link,

Recently out of now where Windows Media Player 11 and AIM (latest version) both just stopped working. Everything else works fine on my computer, but when I click on the launch icons for these two, nothing happens. WMP won't even start and AIM starts, but then immediately shuts down. I used to watch AVI files on my LED TV by plugging my laptop into the TV via a HDMI cable with no problem whatsoever, but recently it has stopped working. The screen is duplicated fine on the TV but when I double click the file I wish to play Windows Media Player now comes up with an error message COOD11B1. Can anyone tell me why this has started to happen and how I can fix the problem? When playing files normally on my laptop without the HDMI connection it works fine with no error message, it is just when I connect to the TV via HDMI cable I have the problem.

Thankyou for any help or advice.

The icon on the bottom toolbar has lost the Windows Media Player icon and I can no longer view any videos. I get a "server execution failed" message. It will not start from the Start menu; all I get is a very brief flash of a new window that then disappears.

The window appears empty but it flashes on and off so quickly it is impossible to be sure. I have not been adding any new programs; only the usual Microdsoft updates. I've tried going back to earlier restore points and also turning Media Features off and on again from the Start menu to no avail.

Any ideas as to what has happened and how I can fix it?

Unfortunately I cannot say what is wrong there but you can try to find some Microsoft forum and ask there what can be wrong with this application. Generally speaking I think it is not Toshiba related issue.

If nothing helps download VLC player and enjoy your videos.
For me it is the best player and I use it for the long time already.

I have Windows Media Player 11, Vista Home Premium. Earlier today I decided to download a couple of new skins for the WMP from the Microsoft site, but once I'd downloaded them, I couldn't get them to open, and merely passing over their names with the mouse caused the program to stop functioning. I managed to remove the two skins, and now I just have two interfaces listed, the default one and Revert. Selecting Revert also causes the program to close down; I'd like to remove this name, but can't because I get the error message before I can click on remove.
Any ideas as to why this problem has surfaced, and how I can remove Revert? (couldn't find where it is stored using the search function). Thanks.
Florio

Answer:Windows Media Player has stopped working ... yes, but not the usual problem!

Try running a System Restore from a point before you downloaded - (System Restore - How to[11]=Backup%20Restore). You'll have to reinstall any updates or programs you've installed since then, but, obviously, not the Media Center ones.

Yesterday, when I double clicked on an MP3 I'd just downloaded, Media Player didn't start. I tried using a launcher to open it. When that didn't work, I tried opening it from Explorer, but no go.

Today I wanted to run a search to make sure a backup operation had worked correctly. When I clicked the Search Button I got a blank Search Companion the color of my desktop.

Usually, I use another player to listen to music, even though WMP is my default player. And usually, I use Search GT instead of Windows Search when I'm looking for a file. So - I don't know exactly when the applications quit. I am wondering if it has anything to do with Windows latest update. However, I don't see anyone else posting about this problem.

My system is fully patched. I ran a virus scan and got nothing. Event viewer doesn't show any errors. Very odd. Computer is running fine, no problems except for this.

Suggestions would be welcome.

Hello,

I want to install Linux on a Satellite M60-170 (thus transforming part of the NTFS partitions into other file systems) without erasing/reformating the preset Express Media Player Partition.

Using Partition Magic 8, I can only see 2 preset Microsoft (NTFS) Partitions of 37 GB each on the 80 GB harddisk.
I read on the forum that the Express Media Player is on a system T88 partition of 204 MB.
How can I see where this partition is located or do you know where it should be?

(Partition Magic signalled an error just after the end of the 1st partition, at sector 7815624; the 2nd NTFS(1st extended) starts at sector 78156288: I would expect that the Express media Player is a 2nd primary partition located between the 2 NTFS partitions, but I would like to be sure.)

thank you in advance,

Answer:Sat M60-170: Question about Express Media Player partition

Hi

I?m not 100% sure but I think the hidden Express Media partition is placed at the end on the HDD.
I have found information that on the HDD should at least 150 - 200MB free space must be available.
This free space should be on the end of the HDD and it must be unallocated.
To get these free spaces on the HDD 3rd party products must be used.

You should also check this useful document about the Express Media Player installation.

Windows requires considerable memory to run media player.
If it is out of memory it wont even start.

Try to disable some things and see if it will work.

I recently bought the Satellite A100-906 model and I'd like to make a partition to save data but the already existing partition with the Express Player doesn't allow the C: part to be partitioned.

If I delete the Express partition will I be able to install it after I partition the C: part or I'll have to choose between the partitioning and the Media Player?

Answer:Satellite A100-906: Express Media Player does not allow to create partition on C

I think that you will probably have to choose, because the recovery is making automatically that partition. But I suggest you a external HDD for saving and backing up your data. It works fine for me :)

I replaced my 100GB HDD (Toshiba manufactured, which included Toshiba Express Media Player by factory default) with 320 GB HDD (Toshiba). I want to install Toshiba EMP.

When I boot from EMP recovery disc received this message:
Recovery is not supported on this system. Press any keys to exit. (my OS Windows 7 x64 Ultimate)
Also I receive this message on old HDD. Also OS Windows 7 x64 Ultimate & Windows XP Professional x86.
When I install different operating systems (Red Hat, Debian) on my old HDD Toshiba EMP working & not removed although I deleted partitions & etc.
I updated my BIOS version from 3.00 to 5.60 for install Windows 7 few years ago.

Maybe BIOS hinder?

Answer:Toshiba Express Media Player recovery

If I?m remembering well Toshiba has offered this media player 10 years ago on old models like Satellite 5200 so I?m asking myself which notebook model do you have exactly.

What is more confusing is that you use Win7. Something is wrong there.

Do you have newer notebook model and want to use this old piece of software or you have pretty old notebook designed for WXP and use Win7 on it. I?m confusing.

At this time Toshiba has offered recovery disc for Toshiba Express Media Player and recovery disc for WXP and only usage of these both discs has worked well. Now to mix Toshiba Express Media Player installation with dual boot ..... I really don?t know if this will work.

Main problem is that you will have problem to find someone who can test it for you. Let?s see.

My computer is infected by virus really bad. So I need to format it.

I understand that I have to insert an express media player recovery CD first, before the windows recovery CD and I also know that I can burn the EMP recovery CD from an icon on my computer. The thing is I can't find it anywhere on my computer and maybe I?ve accidentally deleted it or something.

If I?ve really lost the file where can I get it from? Right now I haven't done anything to my computer, just looking for the EMP recovery CD.

I keep getting the message 'cannot play this file' nine times out of ten, whereas everything worked fine before, and as far as I know I haven't altered my system or anything.
I tried re-installing WMP but the problem's still there.

Answer:Need Express Media Player recovery disc for Satellite M100-164

Hi Kavo,

Unfortunately the recovery discs are not available for download. They can only be purchased from an Authorised Service Partner. I believe this is a condition of the OEM licence agreement with Microsoft.

It looks like a visualisation problem. Either turn off visualisation or select a different visualisation to see if that fixes your crash.

Hi, I listen to internet radio and watch internet tv (streamed) through Media Player. A few weeks ago I could suddenly not listen to radio anymore, fortunately the site lets me choose between different players so I can still listen through Quicktime. Yesterday afternoon I watched a television show without problems but when I tried it yesterday evening all of a sudden it didn't work anymore. Unfortunately this site (nor all the other ones) does not give me the option to choose another player. I tried it again this morning but it still didn't work. I've tried it on another pc and it worked just fine.

What has happened to my pc and how can I solve it...?

Any comment is appreciated!

Answer:Media Player suddenly stopped working

Have you tried System Restore and restoring the PC back to a date when it did work? If not, give that a try first. System Restore can be accessed from Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools.

I have some problem with my express media player software on my new machine Satelite P105-6024.

As I have bought it everything work properly. But then, I have made partitions on my HDD and have instaled whole the software from recovery discs. And everything looks like earlier and work properly but Express Media Center. It seems it is not installed. I have found the special Express Media Player Recovery Disc but I am not sure how to use it. (I am complite novice). As I have known EMP is a linux-like software and it is not visible in Windows. And as I know there was a special small partition dedicated for this application. This partition has been deleted. And I am not sure it is possible to install EMP once again on my laptop. How should I use the EMP recovery disc? If I simply run it in windows enviroment I can just see some files - but running them nothing is happen. I would appreciate short manual.

Thanks a lot in advance

Answer:Express Media Player (EMP) recovery disc - Satelite P105-S6024

Hi,

I have found this on the web:

Step-by-Step Installation Guide for Express Media Player and Windows XP Recovery on two partitions in Expert mode:

1) ALL DATA ON HDD WILL BE IRREVERSABLY DESTROYED (this is serious!)
2) Install Express Media Player:
Boot from the Express Media Player Recovery CD
-->use [Delete All Partitions] (may be on left side of menu for older Player versions).
THIS WILL ERASE THE COMPLETE HDD!!!!!!!!
3) Boot with the Windows XP Recovery CD, go to expert mode, and exit the "TOSHIBA Recovery Tool" (OEM Ghost version) using menuitem "Quit"
4) you may use fdisk.exe or gdisk.exe - I will show the gdisk syntax here
(its easier to describe and there are a lot of descriptions for FDISK on the net)
5) Now we create two partitions (size 50%:50%-playersize).
--> At DOS prompt type:
gdisk 1 /cre /pri /sz:50% -> creates a primary 1st partition
gdisk 1 /cre /ext -> creates a extended 2nd partition
gdisk 1 /cre /log -> creates a 2nd partition logical
gdisk 1 /act /p:1 -> set partionion 1 to active
6) now reboot with the Windows XP Recovery CD , go to expert mode
7) Use menu: Local\Partition\From Image, choose GHO image in menu
8) There should only be ONE source partition available:
1 Primary 07 NTFS DiskLoad ...-> Choose this one!
9) Select destination HDD (there should be also only one)
1 <size> Basic ... -> Choose this one!
10) Now... Read more

I also have a network sharing service problem -

Vista displays, occasion (and I havent worked out WHAT occasions yet):

"windows media player network sharing service stopped working and was closed" - followed by some bulls?$t about windows informing me of a solution when it becomes available

This pop up appears relentlessly - about once every 30 seconds, and i can see the system performance hitting 100% CPU for 5 seconds or so each time it does.

I did what is suggested on here - ie disable the service - and it STILL comes up with the eror. Any ideas????

As an addendum - I think this happens when I'm doing any type of install - e.g. windows update, service pack, etc

In my satellite p100-213 express media player doesn't work properly. I have many pixels in the screen and when I execute audio cd it doesn't work. I have reinstalled the express media player but it still doesn't go. Any idea? Thx for all.

Answer:Express media player not working on P100-213

Hi

I assume the express media player has worked properly but you should know that this player does not support all formats!!!
Furthermore it depends not from the media express player if the movie has many pixels or not.
It depends on the movie format. However, I assume you don?t have installed the express media player correctly.
Check this forum how to install and to handle express media player. In this forum you will find many useful postings.

I have found also this Toshiba info page:

So, now everything should be clear.

Hi Folks,

Coming from a pc that i built my own with windows 7 to a windows 8 Sony vaio pro 13 laptop was not easy for me recently .

long story short, i was trying to install Ubuntu alongside windows 8.1 pro. However, that was very unsuccessful, due to a what i think UEif, secure boot and some other reasons that im still unsure of. Now regardless of all that, i think during the process of trying to solve that problem and get linux running as a secondary os on my laptop, i did something wrong. i did play with partitions however l i do not remember touching any of the recovery partitions. i also downloaded two softwares to try and boot linux which are :

-EasyBCD - boot management
-Ease Partition Master - partition management

after so many failed attempted i thought to my self that maybe i should re-install windows and everything. Sony Vaio laptops have a button called Assist, when pressed it will boot to Sony diagnostics and recovery tools. Thar recovery tool usually allows you to format your laptop and re-installs everything along with all the softwares that sony provided with the laptop. That did not work for me for the first time since i got the laptop i tried different methods including advanced startup all option can;t seem to find the recovery partition. I tried to go to PC Setting > recovery > refresh & reset. None works and it asks me to insert a recovery media. So i went to disk management, and here is whats there :

the partition is there, i even went ... Read more

Hi folks,

I have been using WMP since Windows 7 and although it has some faults I am used to it and it does what I need it to do. A week (maybe more?) ago it just stopped working ... completely

When I open the program I get the Welcome to Windows Media Player dialogue box with tick boxes to choose custom or recommended settings. Whichever I click on it just comes back to the same screen again.

I've tried Groove Music but it's pants - doesn't find all my music, adds loads of stuff to the bottom of lists, etc. - and anyway I want the programe I want <stamps feet>

I have tried to disable WMP in Programs & Features and then re-enabled it (shutting down fully in between) but that didn't do anything and now I'm stumped. I have two PCs and both are the same!

Ideas, anyone?

i have been happily burning and burning away my cds for some time. i have been getting dowload music and i have imported music into the windows media player via cds .

a few days ago i downloaded some audio material i had paid for and it is licenced to be burned to cd. after some password hitches the downloaded music was played in window media audio file format.

1)i then attempted to burn cds from this licenced download and windows told me that "you have an error with your system and i don't know what it is". well it does't say it quite like that, but according to the microsoft help centre it calls it an unclassified error.

2)Now i find though i do not know if it is related to point 1 , that every single wma file in the windows media library cannot be burned to a conventional cd. i have quite a library of files and now i cannot make cds out of any of them. what is going on??
3)To solve the problem i have downloaded all available updates from microsoft for windows media player 10.

i have also downloaded an attempted to use freeware cd burning programs other than windows media player. i am prevented from using them because i am being told that the windows media audio files are not appropriately licenced.

i have antvir software for viruses and that is updated daily. i use the windows firewall and i am signed up for automatic updates from windows. i also run spybot regularly.

lastly i have tried lowering the burn speed for cd burning.

The computer: Gateway desktop - vista home premium - WMP 11
Over the past couple days my computer stopped playing any videos in windows media player. It's always played any/all types of video files (wmv, mpg, etc..) just fine up until a couple days ago when the video stopped showing. The audio plays just fine, just no video. It doesn't matter what the video format is, and the files also play OK in winamp and/or nero showtime.
I've updated to the most recent k-lite codec packs and that didn't help. I've tried to download and re-install WMP 11 but MS recognizes that I already have the most recent player.
I've tried going into Tools -> Options, Performance tab and changing the video
acceleration down to see if that helped, but no such luck

Is there some way of running a repair to it? I dug around some but haven't found anything anywhere on my machine that allows me to do anything to wmp.
Also, I'm holding off upgrading to windows 7 on this machine until this issue is resolved, but do ya suppose it may get fixed during the upgrade if I went ahead with it?

Thanks...

Answer:Windows media player stopped showing video

Doesn't seem to be possible to uninstall WMP 11 in Vista.

Do you have a restore point to roll back to.

You could try posting in the Windows Vista forum.

If you look in the Windows 7 forum, the general consensus seems to be that a complete install of Windows 7
is preferable to any kind of 'upgrade'.

I had an issue with WMP that was solved by removing it from the Windows Features/Media features (unchecking the box seen in your post), restarting, and then re-enabling it, and then restarting. When I then launched WMP it rebuilt its music library and everything worked correctly. You might give this process a try.

When I first built my PC, my optical drives came with Power DVD 5 and 6. So naturally I installed PowerDVD 6. 3 months later, I move and my puter needs a reinstall of XP. When I get everything installed, I go to install PowerDVD 6 and I can't find the friggin sleeve it came it with the product key on it. So I installed PowerDVD 5. That seemed to work just as good. Windows Media Player and Media Center didn't have any problems playing and DVDs I had. Then a few months after that, WMP and Media Center wouldn't play DVDs cuz "Windows Media Player could not play the DVD because a problem occured with the digital copywrite protection."
DVDs still play perfectly with PowerDVD itself, but any other player I get an error that pretty much tells me that I don't have any codecs or software to play DVDs installed. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling PowerDVD 5, system restore to that time (would restore for some reason... reg. cleaners? Spybot?), and a repair of XP with the XP install disk.
I have Windows Media Center Edition 2005 which I like to use to play DVDs sometimes, so this is pretty annoying. Anyone know why WMP wont pick up on PowerDVD being installed anymore?

Sounds like a bad hard drive is a strong possibility - power on,press F12 at boot into the Dell diagnostics.  Run an extended (2-3 hour) diagnostic on the hard drive -- if you  encounter any drive errors, replace the drive.
It is not necessary to install WIndows 7 -- you can install Windows 10 onto the system from scratch.

I have a custom built PC, and had to buy Windows 8 on disc.

When using recovery options, the option to completely wipe the PC and reinstall Windows requires my DVD in the drive.

However, my laptop that came with Windows 8 (An Asus r500a) has the option to fully wipe the machine, and start from scratch without recovery media. No prompts other than 'are you sure?'

Is there a way for me to partition my Desktop SSD so that I could do the same thing? Or is there an image I can create using some software? I don't mind the price for the convenience.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:How to partition Windows 8 so it can be fully recovered without recovery media?

if you want to install windows again and wipe the system completely so there is no recovery partition available then all you need to do is boot from the dvd (you may need to select boot from cd from the BIOS), delete the partition, format the drive, reinstall windows.

There are several imaging software choices. I have used Acronis True Image in the past.

Hello, I am a soldier stationed overseas and i bought a windows 7 HP dv6 a couple months ago, it was working fine and all of a sudden the dvd player stopped working, there are no error messages and the device manager says its fine, it will play DVD's that are sold here by the locals which are just burned Dvd's, but if it is an out of the box dvd from the store it will not work at all, i have tried the microsoft fix application which did nothing but tell me to put a dvd in which there already was, thanks

Answer:Windows DVD player stopped working

DVD players have region codes to prevent people from buying DVDs from other countries for cheaper. A normal DVD drive will allow you to change the code a set amount of time before it locks (you change it simply by putting in a differnet region code disc and clicking ok if it prompts you).

If you are viewing both local DVDs and store bought ones, you may have locked the drive on another region code. Only fix for that would be to replace the drive.

I open Windows DVD Maker, and I start adding items and label the DVD and adjust settings and everything and all is well until I hit the "next" button, and then there is a pop-up error message box that says: "Windows DVD Maker as stopped working. A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." and there is a button that says "close program"

I have an Acer Laptop 7720G downstairs with retail version of Windows 7 Pro SP1 and a desktop with Windows 7 Home upstairs, connected as a workgroup via a Home Network.

There is a hardwired connection and a wireless connection via a Netgear D6300 router which has the latest broadcasting facilities like ac. My Samsung TV (x2) and Internet radio also have wireless and have excellent wireless signals.

Recently I purchased Nero 16 to upgrade from Nero 12 and it came with some free extra programs. I installed Nero 16 with its inbuilt new media player and a Micromedia program. All seemed to be working well so I left my laptop turned on as my weekly backup with a system image was due to run late that evening.

The next day I went to stream music from the laptop via WMP11 and got messages to turn on streaming. clicking the Turn On Streaming button did nothing. Sharing Centre shows that streaming is turned on but the media player says Turn On Streaming.

I noticed that my Local Connection had disappeared and that my Adapter had a red cross saying that there is a broken cable or something. Disabled the wireless connection and enabled the laptop adapter and the hardwired connection worked, showing local connection again with Internet access, except for streaming. It did prove that the cabling in the walls is intact. Contacted Nero Help desk and after a few messages that did not solve the problem I asked for a refund and was reimbursed after uninstalling their programs.

I am getting the message "Windows Installer has stopped working" as showed in the attachement. I believe the problem is with Windows or some of its configuration. I tried in different PC with exact same Windows version (Win 7 64 bits) and exact same setup.exe with 100% success.
I have read several threads with similar issue. Some of them suggest to work in regedit (see Suggestion 1 below) but there is no MachineThrottling here. Other suggestion is to disable Windows Customer Experience Improment Program but mine is already disable. Any suggestion will be appreciatted.
P.S.1. obviously I am running the setup.exe as administrator.
P.S.2. the installer source is IBM - DB2 Express-C

Suggestion 1:
Click on Start > Run > type "regedit"
Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ SQMClient\Windows\DisabledSessions
Look for the "MachineThrottling" key and delete it.
Close the registry editor and restart your PC.

Answer:DB2 C-Express installation - Windows Installer has stopped working

Since it is happening on multiple computers I do not think that it is Windows 7 but some kind of incompatibility with Windows 7. Perhaps there is a work around. Since that is specialized software I suggest that you try the ibm community. https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/c...0-000000000805

Hi all,

I have just received a new laptop, but it didn't come with a recovery partition so I am trying to create one myself.

The OS it's running is Windows 10 Home 64bit.

I have downloaded the Media Creation Tool in order to download the ISO files for the partition but the none in the selection of Windows 10s in the "Edition" drop down menu match mine.

This is the choice:

- Windows 10
- Windows 10 Home Single Language
- Windows 10 N

The selected edition when the "Use the recommended options for this PC" is ticked is "Windows 10".

None of them include "home" apart from the Single Language edition.

If my current OS is Windows 10 Home should I just select "Windows 10" from the menu?

I take it then I won't be asked to enter an activation key?

As you can probably tell I'm a newbie at this so I appreciate all your help and advice!

Answer:Creating a recovery partition using windows media creation tool

If it is a new OEM system it should have the partitions it needs. Could you attach a picture of your Disk Management window showing the partitions?

What kind of Recovery Partition are you trying to create or for what purpose are you trying to create one?

Windows Media Center has stopped working on my dell studio 1749 laptop. When I try to open it tells me that windows media center has stopped working and that windows is checking for a solution to the problem. Well, that's been going on for a month. I've tried a recent system restore, checked this forum and microsoft answers forum for answers but with no luck.

Should I try a older system restore? Should I go ahead and use my system image I made last year which was right after I bought this dell brand new? Wanted to try and fix without re-install but if I can't find the problem that might be the only thing left to do.

I have HP Pavillion 9000dv with Windows Vista. It is a couple of months old. I have an HP video card that plugs into my express port on the side. It worked for a while and then when I plugged it back in after using my notebook elsewhere, Windows Media Center failed to recognize it. I see that this is a common issue. I worked on reloading the driver for a few days, spent an hour on line with HP. Gave up. A few days later it began working again on its own but it would record on the wrong channels. For example, it would record on channel 22 instead of 122. Thinking that I needed to reprogram the remote control I went to "set up" and starting setting up the TV again. I let me get to the " Downloading Settings Please wait" screen and then gave an error message of "Windows media center has stopped working and is restarting". WMC restarts, we go through it again, it stops at the same screen and restarts. Around and around we go. Around and around......HELP!

Answer:Windows Media Center Has Stopped Working

Ok, here is what the problem was. Windows Vista doesn't take kindly to Windows XP drivers. Don't even try to install them. My printer driver caused a cascade of failures that led to my internet connection going poof and my Windows Media Center getting stuck in the circle of doom. I restored the computer to a restore date before all this happened (from the partitioned drive), reinstalled the TV card driver, reinstalled the Sprint driver, re-set up the tv tuner with my Dish Network box and voila, now it all works. Many thanks to Michelle at HP who helped alot through email.

I couldn't make any sense out of anything that popped up in the windows kb. I've tried unistalling and reinstalling the most current version for XP. Can anyone please suggest what I should try next? thanks in advance.

Answer:windows media encoder stopped working!!!

Hiya

Are you still having this problem? If so, I assume this is version 9 you're using, not 7. Can we see what you have running at the same time:

Go to Run and type MSINFO32
On the left choose Software Enviroment, then Startup Programs. Copy/paste the list here.

Also, when you uninstall it, did you delete the actual folder for it? If not, uninstall it again via AddRemove, or the Start | Programs.

Then, open Windows Explorer and navigate to Program Files | Media Encoder (or whatever the folder is called). Then, click to highlight just that folder, and delete it.

You don't have Windows Media Player open at the same time when you're using Encoder, do you? If so, which version are you using?

Regards

eddie

And I'm running a 64-bit Home Premium on a Dell Studio 1535. All Microsoft has recommended (so far) is starting in Safe Mode.

My last image backup was 3 weeks ago. I tried to run backup and recovery to do it again only was met with error about 5 seconds after starting the backup:
Error is The device is not ready
Error code: 0x80070015

Event logger showed a couple of CAPI2 errors right before backup fails:
Cryptographic Services failed while processing the OnIdentity() call in the System Writer Object.

Details:
AddLegacyDriverFiles: Unable to back up image of binary Microsoft Link-Layer Discovery Protocol.

System Error:
Access is denied.
.
I looked for answers and couldn't find any that fixes my problem.

The drive is working. I'm using it for file history.

Since last backup, I installed some software but I've removed them all. They are all ligit from paragon software.

Hi All!
My brother's Toshiba A500 laptop with Windows 7 32bit got antimalware doctor and after deleting it fully, got problems with the OS (such as programs slowing considerably after randomly minimising during operation) and so we backed up everything important in safe mode, and tried to use the rocovery partition by pressing 0 repetitively on startup. We got to the utility, but it's saying it can't find the recovery device and that we need the recovery disc, does anyone know where i can get a Toshiba A500 Windows 7 32 bit recovery disc?

Sincerely

A little background info:

I initially had some trouble getting MCE to work, consisted of changing the MTU size in the registry which appeared was the original problem 6 months ago.

Here's the thread I referred to back then:

http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?t=51943

So over the past 6 months it's been working like a charm, everyday.

Nothing network, software has really changed. Same router, same switch, nothing was changed. A few reboots here and there (a couple power outages that outlasted the UPS). So a couple days ago it stops working.

So trying find out what in windows has broken this time I attempted to re-connect my Xbox 360 to my computer via Windows Media Center. I deleted the profile from within Media Center & Xbox, and I'm getting the same error that I got 6 months ago.

"Cannot Setup Extender. Setup failed because your extender is unable to connect to this computer. The issue might be caused by a configuration problem with your network or firewall"

So here's what I'm 99.9% sure it's not. It's not upnp (common problems with this error as well) on my router. It's not 3rd party firewall or AV software, using Windows Firewall and Windows Media Extender is in the exceptions under the correct network location. Those seemed to be the top 2 things that seem to come with this error.

Here's some info regarding my setup:

Computer runs Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, 16 GB RAM, SSD, plenty of... Read more

I bought lenovo thinkpad X230 in January 2013. I made a recovery USB on a 16 GB pendrive. I bought a windows 8 pro upgrade offer as well. But i did not install it at that time and kept it for future use.  About a week ago I installed windwos 8 on my system in dual boot mode making a partition on primary HDD.everything went ok with only problem that my windows 8 did not activate. I was ok with that. But when i tried F11 recovery function, it was not working. So i tried factory reset through recovery USB i created earlier. It opened up and said BOOTMGR missing. Later with some research I realized that i didnt make USB active (bootable) before burning it.(Though this is ridiculous considering, tools provided must have done that. Like when you make windows bootable.) With all this(and me panicking), I tried backing up my data with image i created through R & R tool. After back up, I lost my recovery partition on HDD. And I guess i accidentally deleted System_DRV partition as well.  Though my computer is running fine. I need a bootable media. it would be great if you can provide it. Also if you can restore my comp to factory setting with recovery partition, it would be great. Please help me. Thanks in advance.

Hi, You can make bootable media (CD, USB stick or USB HDD) for using with your Factory Recovery Data USB stick.Just launch Lenovo Factory Recovery Disks app from Control Panel, deselect Data media creation, select needed Boot media type. Note you'll need less then 300 mb free space on media.

Answer:Windows Media Player not working

Have you altered any file accosiations recently,or added another media player that has taken controll of the files,or even uninstalled a player that had the codecs you need. This pack click herehas most codecs you would need,if that fails what you could try as alast resort is cganging the file type of the file from say Mpg to Mpeg.

The version of WMA is correct for the Win98SE OS.Is there any setup I need to do to make it work. I'm wondering if it's because I use Firefox instead of IE6, and WMA is sulking like a lot of MS stuff if you don't use its parent. Answer:Windows Media Player not working

The weirdest thing just happened.

I straightened out the problem I was having with the DVD writer and I burned a disk. I put the disk in the drive to check it and all of a sudden the latest version of Windows Media Player came up and asked if I wanted a custom or express install. Last thing I remember was that the download did not complete (three times)! I figured if it was asking for a custom or express install I wasn't going to let this gift get away. I hit express and a few "seconds" later I was watching My Cousin Vinny!

Maybe it did have something to do with the DVD Burning software after all.

In device mgr the only place I have a 'yellow dot against is my mouse, and Advance Power management Support.

When I try to run a file online with WMP doesn't work. When Itry to open a file this is what I GET:

This error indicates that you either do not have a sound card or it is functioning incorrectly. If you do not have a sound card, you must install one to play this file. If you do have a sound card, refer to its documentation to troubleshoot the problem.

try that... what brand of computer do you have? if you have an emachine, dell, gateway, etc, (major brands) most of them have live troubleshooting support online or over the phone. did you also check to see if your sound driver is in with the devices in WMP? you can check by going to Tools ---> Options... ---> Devices. If it isnt there, then hit "Add" and follow the instructions
