Preferred Solution: Keyboard problems

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Keyboard problems

How old is the keyboard? Sometimes "gunk" gets built up under the keys and can cause the keyboard to start failing. Have you tries to remove the keys (or take the keyboard apart) and properly clean it? There are plenty of tutorials (video and non-video) available if you are unsure of how to clean a keyboard.
Regular cleaning on all computer parts will extend the life of those parts.

I recently purchased a great W530, and love it a lot.  It did not come with a backlit keyboard so I purchased one off ebay.  I know the keyboard works as I tried with on my x230.  Anway when on my W530 the fn space bar did not turn on the keyboard.  I went into the bios to the keyboard/mouse section and noticed there was no option to chose the fn toggle form light to keyboard or both.  I updated the bios to the newest version for the W530 and there still is no option to toggle the backlight on in the bios.  Does my version just not support this, is there a way to unlock this function in the bios?

Answer:W530 non back lit keyboard to backlit keyboard problems

All versions should support it. Did the thinklight work with your old keyboard?

I got my computer virused-up and unvirused thanks to the services of MBAM, and too any others to name.

In the process, something's changed with my keyboard. There's a problem with my space bar. When I tap the space bar to separate one word from the next, the cursor doesn't move. When I type the following word, the space appears between the first and second letters of that word.

The droll sentence, "The quick red fox jumped over the lazy brown dog." would appear as:

"Theq uickr edf oxj umpedo vert hel azyb rownd og ."

I can create a space between words by placing the cursor where the space should be, tapping the space bar and tapping the --> arrow key. While this creates a space, it sends the cursor rapidly across the screen, as though I am holding down the space bar.
I can stop its progress by tapping the backspace button, or a button corresponding to a letter.

Other than this, the arrow keys are either non-functional, or work as usual. The page-up/page-down buttons work as expected.

Because of the uniformity of this dysfunction, I'm inclined to believe that it's a systemic thing, not a mechanical error with the keyboard.

Because I had to wipe the drive to get it unvirused, my "restore point" is gone. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling Windows 7, uninstallling and reinstalling the keyboard driver(s), and updating them. Apparently, I have the most up-to-date iteration of drivers available for Windows 7, already.

Well, today when I came home, my wife told me the computer (computer A) kept crashing today, and now it says there is no keyboard present and it won't boot up. I confirmed this.. it said keyboard error or no keyboard present. It was a USB keyboard. I tested that keyboard with this, our other computer, and it worked with this computer. I tried all 5 USB ports on Computer A, with no luck. The lights on the keyboard would not come on.

I went out and bought a keyboard with a PS/2 plug. The lights on this keyboard do light up. Now, the computer comes to the screen where it asks me to choose between Safe Mode and starting Windows normally, but it won't let me choose, or even press Enter. If I wait until it defaults to "Start Windows normally," it attempts to boot Windows but I get a blue screen saying that the BIOS is not fully ACPI compliant.

It gives me this STOP: 0x000000A5 (0x00000011, 0x00000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

I put in the Windows XP Professional recovery disk and rebooted, and now it gives me the option "Press any key to boot from CD" but again, the keyboard does not seem to work.

The motherboard is an ASUS P5N-E SLI. I'm going to call the company that built the computer tomorrow and talk to their tech support. But I hate waiting, so I was hoping someone here might be able to at least tell me what is wrong with my computer.

If you need any other information in order to help me, just ask. I'm more computer literate than ... Read more

Answer:Keyboard problems, and problems with Motherboard/BIOS. Please help!

Hmm i've seen this ACPI not compliant blue screen more than a few times and often a BIOS update will fix the problem.

Its not really an easy problem to fix and if your computer is under warranty i would let the company who built it, fix it.

Question: Keyboard problems

Hey guys...

I've been having some problems with my laptop keyboard lately.

I installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 with all the updates and newest drivers, antivirus protection and everything else needed.

Lately my keyboard has been acting strangely meaning that it's typing completely different characters than the ones I press on the keyboard. for example if I press e I get p, if I press d I get two or even three different characters. It is impossible to type like this because sometimes I have to correct the mistake a couple of times. I have to write this from my mobile phone otherwise it would took me at least half an hour to do it.

I've been searching for help on the internet but I couldn't find anything useful. I am sure it's not a virus because my avast didn't find any viruses.

Any ideas what should I do? USB keyboard is the last option...

Thanks in advance.

HiyaI had the cordless mouse and that was a pain and eventually went to mouse heaven. Apart from taking it back to the shop and exchangin it i'd try start menu> control panel> system> device managers > and remove the old mouse and keyboard, they could be conflicting, then reinstall the logitech drivers and have a look. When i got my mouse it turned out first time that i needed to exchange it for one that worked.

Answer:pc keyboard problems

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39) Reasons for this error include a driver that is not present; a binary file that is corrupt; a file I/O problem, or a driver that references an entry point in another binary file that could not be loaded.Uninstall the driver, and then click Scan for hardware changes to reinstall or upgrade the driver. On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooting wizard. not sure if you have only tried updating drivers but maybe worth another go

I recently bought a used computer with only USB ports. The keyboard is working, but has some glitches. The Start button does not work (except by mouse), and the Ctrl-Shift-arrow does not select/highlight. All other common shortcuts work, however. I bought a new USB kb and installed it, and it does the same thing, so I assume there is some kind of problem with my Windows set-up. But I have never heard of this problem, so I don't know how to fix it. Any suggestions?

Hi, my daughters keyboard has stopped working, well I say stopped working a few keys work and thats all, now I've tried all the usual fixits and its still not working, then she came up to me and said "Dad will steam break your laptop !!!" I have now found out that she took it in the bathroom when she was in the shower and that the room was full of steam !, the question I'm asking is, will this have just ruined the keyboard or will it have done some other internal damage. I've had the keyboard out and it looks fine and so does everthing else......plzzzz help she's doing my head in about fixing it...the cheeky little minx she broke it !!

Cheers

Answer:Keyboard problems

Steam can cause numerous problems. But it does sound like you've had the laptop turned on at least once since then, so you may have dodged the biggest bullet.
If it's just the keyboard that's not working, you can try plugging in a usb keyboard and see if that works. If so, you might just need to replace the internal keyboard (steam could make the matrix inside the keyboard get stuck together).

Question: Keyboard Problems

I've done something to my keyboard while typing out some text. I think it might have something to do with holding down the shift key to long. Whatever I did I can't hold shift to type capitals and if I try to type numbers I get the characters that are above them. I'm completely stumped. I held down shift again but don't understand what I might be meant to do.

Thanks in anticipation

Answer:Keyboard Problems

Is it that Dell that you are having problems with the VGA. If so go to the Dell site and look for the manual that will tell you how to remove the keyboard.

It should be fairly easy to do. My advise would be take the keyboard off, try to see if anything looks 'odd' underneath it, then replace it and see if that sorts the issue.

Good Luck

I assume it is connected via a USB dongle - is your computer USB2 capable, if your computer only has USB1 then that would make your keyboard work more slowly, because I would suspect that the keyboard is USB2.

Question: keyboard problems?

Hi there,
I am having some major issues with my keyboard and can't for the life of me figure out what is causing it.
So basically I have an HP Pavillion g6. Everything was fine with it until I turned it on this morning. The keyboard is typing incorrect keys. It is typing multiple letters for some keys. For example when I press the bottom right shift key, it types variations of Pop0. Those four characters. If I try to type qwerty, it comes up a garbled up mess about twice as long as what I typed.

I have checked the keyboard regional/language settings, and made sure they are set to English (Australia). I have used the fn key and scroll lock key combination to see if num lock was on. I have also tried some other variations, such as turning on and off caps lock, alt and scroll lock, alt fn.. pretty much every combo I could think of. At one point I thought I had resolved the issue, as it was working fine. Then once the computer went into standby mode, it started again. I re-checked all the settings once again.
I have done two system restores to an earlier time, which did not resolve the problem. I have Norton antivirus which was fully up to date and protected, but this morning it said my spyware protection had somehow been turned off. I ran a full scan and found nothing. I read somewhere that a virus could cause this.
I plugged in an external keyboard from my other computer, and this one works fine.
I am at my wit's end, I really don't know what else to try. Any and a... Read more

Over the last couple of weeks I've been experiencing problems typing when using Internet Explorer and sometimes msn.

As I type, the letters either take a long while to be displayed or don't come up at all and I have to press them several times before they work. This doesn't happen on Firefox but as I've been having problems accessing Facebook when using Firefox (I keep having problems with the plug-in container on Firefox causing it to freeze) I have been using IE.

This is not just happening on my PC, its also happening on my daughters laptop.

Anyone else having similar problems or any idea what is causing this?

If i am to go into a program and say use the crtl key alot, or any other key for that matter it will 'stick on'. This is very anoying as the only way i can get it to stop this is to, press key key for ages and sometimes it will finaly work again, but normally re-start the computer.
This is very anoying when playing games such as counter strike as when i take my finger of the forward button (w) i still go forward, the only way i can stop going forward it to press forward again, it all gets very messy. :(
I have asked may people for help before but no one knows what is wrong, and before you say, sticky keys function is OFF and i have check all the options in control pannel. also i have swaped the keyboard and the same happens.
Thanks for your time.
Tom

First, i'm not sure if this is the right fourm. Sorry if it isn't.

P.S. It doesn't happen when I press the other Shift key.

Question: Keyboard problems

(and some other concerns, but 1st the keyboard stuff) While I love the lenovo keyboard, or at least its touch and feel, I'm having some problems.  The "1" key doesn't seem to respond well.  Most of the time when I press it, it works just fine, but sometimes it fails to register my input and does not type the characer "1".  This is when I'm using a medium/light touch.  A heavy typing style will guarantee the "1" key registers every time.  As far as I can tell, "1" is the only key that presents this problem.  I've tried taking off the key cover and spraying the mechanism beneath with compressed air to no avail.  Is their any way I might be able to fix it? or should I call customer service and request an exchange/refund? I know it seems minor, but I've already had a few problems with it and haven't had it on for more than an hour or so, and I'm planning on keeping this laptop for years (picture attached for clarification) http://i51.tinypic.com/fpcwvm.jpg Also some other questions/concerns.  I have the 160gb ssd, but in windows, it only displays as 138gb available, and 114gb after the windows install.  I know formatting a drive reduces available space, but that seems like a pretty large drop on what was originally a fairly small drive. A few nitpicks: the left and right border of the screen is sorta loose and makes a clicking noise when pushed even slightly (however the top and bottom of the screen border is rock s... Answer:Keyboard problems

there should be several partitions. The keyboard probably has a bad contact on the 1 key, in which case you should just call up lenovo warranty and ask for a new replacement keyboard to be sent to you for replacement. If you can't do it yourself then just send the machine into the depot (depending on your warranty coverage).

Question: Keyboard problems

A friend finds that she has problems with her keyboard (I don't know if it's wireless or not): capitals, spaces, punctuation, individual letters can be missed out and have to be re-keyed. Caps sometimes require more than one attempt to key in, with much extra key pressure required.Apologies for the lack of hard info re make of equipment - she's gone away and I'd be v grateful for any suggestions re what might be wrong and how to put things right! By the way, it's a new PC.

Hi, I just started using a computer I built again after letting it sit around for about a year. I have 2 problems so far with it that didn't occur the last time I used it ( or any other time for that matter ).

1. Usually windows would automatically boot up, and the boot screen ( press tab for POST, del for set up ) would only show for a second or 2 before booting. Now it just stays there at the boot screen. I did unplug my hard drive from data and power before I initially turned on the computer because I thought I had a different HD in there but it was actually the one I desired to be in there do I quickly plugged it back in. I don't understand why it's not booting up how it used to. Could this be something to do with the hard drive itself, or possibly an error in Windows 7?

2. I figured I was alright because I had an extra PS2 keyboard already hooked up to the computer that I used frequently to mess with the BIOS before I stopped using this computer. The strangest thing occurred when I plugged it in though. The lights on the keyboard light up for less than half a second (sometimes they stay on for a second) but instantly turn off. There seems to be some kind of short somewhere. I don't have any other computers that have PS2 ports so I don't know if the problem is the keyboard or the port itself. If it did happen to be the port, could I try something to fix it or do I need to get a new mobo? hopefully not the latter

Thanks

Answer:PS2 keyboard problems

Well I just found a different keyboard and the same thing happens so it's obviously the port. What should I do?

Hi,
I've been working on a machine hit by Antivirus2009. Thought I'd done well on Friday (finally deleted the offending dll).
At the weekend the machine started getting 'NT Authority shutdown in 60 seconds' messages.

I decided to bring the (desk) machine home - disconnected everything (5 x USBs), got home, found that I had 1 USB keyboard (Logitech cordless).

How can I get the machine to recognise the keyboard? Don't I have to be in the OS for USBs to be recocnised? What happened to the old 'No keyboard present' message?

If I nip out and get a corded keyboard/mouse will that help?

Any help gratefully accepted.

Alan

Answer:HELP many problems 1st=keyboard!

Hi .USB and SATA have changed many things about configurations. USB data input devices (mouse, keyboard) are so common now that BIOSes have been changed to accommodate the ease of use that users want. The BIOS on many motherboards contains options for booting with these devices fully operational. But, I don't think that hardware is your problem ...I think that you are infected with the Blaster worm, from what I read and what I experienced.http://forum.aumha.org/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=37614http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blaster_wormI was hit by a Blaster several years ago when I foolishly did not have my firewall working while I tried to Windows critical updates, after a clean install. A system doesn't need very much exposure to be attacked. i now recall the shutdown in 60 seconds thing.Of course, I could be totally wrong...but I suggest running it by BleepingComputer.com - Am I infected What do I do - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/103/am-i-infected-what-do-i-do/ or at least awaiting opinions from someone who might shed more light on what's wrong.Louis

Question: Keyboard Problems

For some reason, I keep hearing the device disconnect and device connect sounds while using Windows XP. The culprit? My keyboard. It stops working for a few seconds, then apparently reconnects. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the device, so what could be the problem? Could it be virus-related, or is my USB port or keyboard just crapping out?

Now I've worked in tech support for a very long time, and this is by far the most irritating problem I've run into. I've done everything in my realm of knowledge to fix this, and now I need some help...

I'm running WindowsXP Home on a dual core Athlon 3800, with an MSI K8 Neo Platinum motherboard. I don't know if any of these devices have anything to do with it. But, whenever I restart my computer my usb keyboard will NOT detect. I have a logitech 710 wireless mouse and keyboard set, I had this same problem with a Saitek gaming keyboard, I thought it was the keyboard so I just ended up throwing it out, but now its doing the same thing with this keyboard. Whenever I plug the wireless usb device into any usb port on my computer it makes a horrible four dull beeping noises, rather than the normal usb detection noise. They mouse works FINE they keyboard even has some semblence of funcitonality, the media keys work, the volume up down mute keys WORK they are detected, but any of the actual keypad buttons will not work.

I have checked the HID services, they are running, I have checked the bios, everything is set as it should be in order to work with a USB keyboard. The only way I can get my keyboard to work is to leave it plugged in during the boot process and unplug it before it gets to loading the OS then plug it back in once the operating system is fully loaded, this is the ONLY way I can get it to read the keyboard. I don't want to do this every... Read more

Question: Keyboard Problems

Hey, I'm currently building a computer for my younger brother, however the keyboard isn't recognised at all, I need a keyboard so that I can install XP. The keyboard is deffinately working, its a PS/2 connection keyboard. I've tried using a serial port to PS/2 connector but still no luck. I've not tried using a USB keyboard as I don't have one. I'm guessing that the keyboard port on the motherboard is busted because none of the caps lock lights come on. Any ideas on what I could try? Or shall I just go out and buy a cheap USB keyboard?

P.S The mouse port is deffinately working.

Answer:Keyboard problems

Hi, jcallado

From what you've said here, I believe the issue lies the with the systemboard, which will need to be replaced to fix this issue. Since the keyboard has been replaced multiple times and the issue occurs with a USB keyboard as well, something is not right with the systemboard in the machine, I think. I am unsure of your warranty status, but I would recommend calling Lenovo Spain at +34-917-147-833 and discussing the possibility of a systemboard replacement with them.

Hope it helps,
Adam

i have a system im working and the keyboard works in dos, in the bios, in ghost etc. but not in xp(normal or safemode). when a key is pressed the pc speaker makes a "tick" noise(1 tick per key press). i have tried 4 different ps/2 keyboards and 2 differnet usb keyboards and none work. i have scanned for virus, none, cleaned out some minor spyware, reinstalled the keyboard(removed from device manager) installed logitech's keyboard drivers, reinstalled dells keyboard drivers nothing helped. i even tried to run a xp "repair" but when i got to the product key page the keyboard didnt work there either! (luckily i cloned the hdd befor doing so) anybody have any ideas? everything else works fine so i dont want to have to do a full rebuild if i can help it. especially since the customer insists that the keyboard worked befor i got it. im not sure if it did cause i didnt use it until i was going through the registry to clean out some spyware and found that it wasnt working. im positive that i didt remove anything in the reg as all i took out were browser helper objects and unknown toolbars.

Question: Keyboard Problems

Hello,

MY keyboard has been not working properly. After 1 automatic update from Windows in October, I was unable to use my keyboard or the touchpad unless I went to the keyboard function window and adjusted the blink speed of the cursor. Afterwards, I could at least type.

I have since deleted the driver and reinstalled it, rather it was reinstalled automatically on restart. It has given me use of the touchpad, but now some of the buttons are not associated properly. I intend to type an L and a 3 comes out.

Please help.

Answer:Keyboard Problems

Sounds like the keyboard driver you are using isn't properly win 7 compatible.

Would you mind giving us the make and model of the keyboard in question.

Question: Keyboard Problems

I have a Gateway desktop running Vista Home Premium.I have used US International without any problems for the past year until earlier this week. Now it is a mess. The accents do work for some applications but not for others. For example, I can get the dead key behavior/accents with Open Office and Gmail/Firefox. The same Gmail with IE8 does not work. MS Word XP works if I press the Ctrl key, which I read somewhere else reproduces the dead key functionality. This work around, however, does not work with Gmail/IE or Excel. In Eudora (and here too - ????), the left ALT key does the trick.I have also uninstalled a bunch of windows updates, but with no luck. I have also tried a wireless keyboard, a PS2 keyboard and a USB one. All with the same problems, so it is not a keyboard hardware issue.Does anybody have a clue???EDIT: Moved to Vista forum from XP ~ Hamluis.

Answer:Keyboard Problems

If its like that, then your motherboard might not be accepting some of the keys of the keyboard.
This happened when my motherboard burned out a year ago. Keyboard, Mouse, and monitor funtionality completely stopped. Check with a technician about it.
Maybe ask for microsoft support and/or the manufacturer of the computer.
ONE more question, did it work before this happened?

Answer:Keyboard Problems

Hi, While this may be a hardware issue, it's always worth trying the following. Open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, expand Keyboards, right click the entry 'Standard PS/2 Keyboard' and select Uninstall. When this has completed, shutdown the notebook.  Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 20 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Regards, DP-K

I received this Sony Vaio PCV-V200G (All-in-One) PC to fix.
The O/S "XP Home" had crashed and the owner stated that he couldn't get to the recovery partition to fix it so he just wanted it re-installed another way.
Well here comes my problem............
I stick in my "XP Home Edition" CD and proceed to re-install and when I get to
the "Press Enter" to install part the keyboard doesn't work. I tried three!!
He never gave me the original "wireless" keyboard that comes with this system
so I'm using 3 spares I have lying around.
By the way, I come to find out the original O/S & "C" drive had been deleted or formated
before I got the system to fix.
Anyway, I need to find out if anyone knows how to get this or any other keyboards
to work????????
I really need to get this system fixed bad and fast!!

Thanks,

Answer:Keyboard Problems............

I have seen some computers that use USB Keyboards that must have the keyboard they shipped with to work, at least intially. I'd ask for the original keyboard and see what happens.

Or there could be an issue with the file system on the hard drive, or a problem with the drive itself, and it locks up at that point. Test the hard drive or try another drive.

Question: Keyboard Problems

Hi, recently my laptop's integrated keyboard stopped working properly. Some key bindings refused to work, or were mapped to other characters, or most commonly typed multiple characters e.g. 'help me' is hue30lpme0 (spacebar doesn't work). I could do nothing to fix this and suspect it is very probably a simple hardware problem; the thing is getting old and full of crap.
So I bought a standard Microsoft Wired 600 USB keyboard and am trying to use it, but it too has all sorts of problems. Firstly, I cannot use two keys in combination; shift or ctrl plus another key has no effect, and I tried a videogame in which the same thing happened; I could not perform any more than one function at a time on the keyboard. Those brackets above had to be done with the laptop keys, as well as this exclamation mark!
Secondly, the USB keyboard is not very responsive. I have to slowly press one key at a time, and therefore cannot type very fluidly. This is infuriating right now.
Could anyone help - I'm not even able to disable the laptop keyboard so I don't know where to begin with figuring this out. Thanks in advance.

Question: keyboard problems

Hello, I'm new to this forum but have used it as a reliable resource for clearing the rubbish off my hard drive, thanks
The problem I'm having is with my laptop and has been driving me nuts. My keyboard which until i went on holiday for a week was fine. When i got home I powered up to find that my keyboard wouldn't work.
My laptop spec is:
Genuine Windows Vista« Home Premium with
Service Pack 1 (32-bit)
Processor
AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core Mobile Processor
RM-70
Memory
3072 MB (1 x 1024 MB + 1 x 2048 MB)
160 GB SATA Hard Disk Drive 5400 rpm
NVIDIA GeForce 8200M

Firstly the keyboard doesn't work when trying to get into bios or anything on boot up.
Second. When windows loads i can use my keyboard for around 30seconds to 1minute. enough time to log on and type my password in but then stops working.
Thirdly. I was using on Screen Keyboard, until i figured i could go into control panel and change the Repeat Rate and type in the test box, This makes the keyboard work until i restart or shut the lid which puts it on hibernate.

I have tried reinstalling drivers, Uninstalling rebooting to re install the driver. Iv run virus scans to check for viruses and trojans. Im at my wits end. so frustrating.

Help!

Regards

Aieden

ps. the keyboard is Standard 101/102-key or Natural PS/2 keyboard with HP QBL

Answer:keyboard problems

It almost sounds like the PS/2 keyboard has been disabled in the BIOS.

I wonder if it is possible to attach a USB keyboard so you can get into the BIOS and check over the settings.

I also know from personal experience on a desktop that if Num Lock is on when my computer fires up, the keyboard will not work. So you might also want to be sure that Num Lock is set to off at boot up. This assumes that you have some way to get into the BIOS.

However, when I try to use it for my Microsoft Home Publishing Suite 2000 or for Microsoft Word, it will not allow me to use the alphabet keys, tabs etc. I can use the direction keys and delete. Eazyest solution: New Keyboard, you said it might not be new. What more perfect reason to upgrade. But if you not up to that you could go to the system properties-device manager- look for the keyboard uninstall and than reinstall, it might work rabbit it might.

HELP PLEASE!!!. So I've been using my x360 for almost a year now. Woke the machine up and I couldn't type in my password. Thought it was a wake up problem so I restarted the laptop yet no change. Because I couldn't log in I installed Windows again and the problem persisted. Though I could log in freely now, I tried my on-screen keyboard and that was not also working. Tried with an external keyboard and it's not working too. Went to bios to test the keyboard over there and it was not working. I upgraded and downgraded BIOS, I opened the laptop and reset the BIOS by taking out the battery. Interestingly in BIOS when I'm testing the keyboard, it signals I'm pressing on the characters but there is no output by the laptop. I'm at a crossroad here. Hi Wayne. I would suggest deleting the keyboard in Device Manager and letting Windows redetect it, but that will be difficult if you can't log into Windows. You might be able to do a repair from your installation disk, but it is probably easier to get a USB keyboard, e.g. click here

Try another keyboard to see if thats the problem, if not it could be something messed up with your computer such as spyware or just programming.

Question: keyboard problems

hi, guys, I am having problems with my G575 keyboard. The left shift, t, y and backspace keys have stopped working. (I am using a downloaded virtual keyboard to type this). Is there a simple solution or do I have to get a new board?

Answer:keyboard problems

Hi

Welcome to the community.

As per your concern some keys of the keypad are not working. I would suggest you to please perform the following steps.
- My Computer-> Right click-> Manage-> Device manager.- Double click on the keyboard.- Right click on the standard 101/102-key.- Click uninstall.- Reboot the system keyboard driver will install automatically and observe by typing those faulty keys whether same result or not.

If the same issue appears then keyboard needs to be replaced in the Lenovo service centre.

Regards
Sameer

Answer:Keyboard problems

Is this keyboard USB or PS/2?Have you tried using a different keyboard on your computer?  If not, do so.Have you tried using your keyboard on another computer?  If not, do so.What programs open up?  Does it happen at any time or only while browsing the internet? At this point, without much to work with, my guess would be that your Ctrl or Windows key is sticking.  Answer the above questions and we'll see what we can do.

Answer:Keyboard problems

It sounds like your keyboard mapping is set for either another locality or another language.

Go to Control Panel/Region and Language/Keyboards and languages then click on 'Change keyboards' and see if your keyboard is correctly set for your location. If you are in the USA the keyboard should be set for US and if you're not in the US you can click the 'Add' button to add your location.

Question: keyboard problems

i'm having problems with my keyboard (logitech elite). when i was installing windows, it wanted me to press f8. i did, but it didn't work. i had to use a different keyboard to do that. when in windows, everything works completely normaly and the way it should. now, i'm trying to install linux. when it asks me if i want to install from cd or boot from harddrive, pressing the up or down buttons doesn't work, and since the default option is boot from hard drive, i can't install linux. i don't want to use a different keyboard to install it because after i install linux everytime i'll reboot it'll ask me whether to boot from windows or linux, and i won't be able to select one with the keyboard. i hope this all made sense. anyone know what to do? in the bios i can navigate perfectly and everything works.

thanks

Question: Keyboard problems

I have just installed WinXP on an old computer but the keyboard freezes up when the Boot Screen appears.

The keyboard is on a ps2 connection and works in the bios, I have tried 2 different ps2 keyboards, and they both do the same thing.

If I look in the control panel at Keyboard properties, there is nothing listed.

I have checked and double checked that the keyboard is in the right port!!

When I boot up into Windows the Num Lock just stays on and that's it.

I have tried everything I can think of, but I'm not having much luck getting this solved.

Does anybody have any ideas?

Many thanks

Nester

Question: Keyboard problems

2 months ago I bought a Y530 but both shift keys acted like hotkeys.  The left one always printed "]YT" and then opened the find dialog box...the right shift key always printed ".,mv".  Lenovo's customer service was top-notch, I sent the computer back but somehow the tech guys didn't catch it.  It came back with the same problem...oof.  O just today in my search for how to make Vista's Windows Explorer look more like XP's, I accidentally fixed the problem!  I just wanted to share this with anyone that might be having keyboard problems.  I used Ease of Access in the Control Panel to disable hotkeys but that never fixed it.  Today I did : right click the Desktop / Graphics Options / Disable.  No more shift key problems.  Maybe this'll help someone...

Answer:Keyboard problems

Hey, I have the "exact" same problem. However, disabling hotkeys on Graphics Option does not fix it. I have tried multiple purmutations and combinations but it doesnt work. May be you  did something before "right click Desktop \/ Graphics Option \/ Disable." that helped in fixing it.  Can you please help me out. It is really irritating. Others at Lenovo forums are suggesting that it is a hardware issue - but I dont think so. Also, do you think recovery is a good option for sorting this out? Thanks,Gaurav

Question: Keyboard problems

Hi Guys;

I'm back again. Now to unfold the sequence of events, some embarrassing and some mystifying.

For starters, after my disaster last year, I bought a new HP computer with plenty of everything. 64 bit. Didn't care too much for the HP wired keyboard so I bought a Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse at Costco. Worked fine - until - I spilled a glass of wine on the keyboarsd ! After it dried some keys were "sticky". I tried several home remedies, Windex, carburetor gunk out and NONE worked. So I went back to Costco and bought the only keyboard/mouse combo available, a wireless Logitech. *( It is EXCELLENT ).

THEN I phoned Microsoft tech support and told them what had happened. Asked where I could send the keyboard for repair at my cost. They didn't tell me but a few days later I opened my front door and there was a large package with a new Microsoft wireless keyboard and "invoice" - NO CHARGE !!!

Short time later someone hacked into my E-mail account, stole my contacts list and sent out a whole flock of E-mails to every one on my list - in my name !!! It was a web address for Viagra. No message. Then my keyboard began acting up. I was on the phone for hours with MSN my service provider, Norton my Internet security and Logitech.

The hacker, as Spamtrackers ascertained, was a Russian, Igor Anatolevich Gusev. Russian authorities are pursuing him now.

The problem:

The hacker presumably messed up my computer. Norton set me up with a parallel,... Read more

Answer:Keyboard problems

Hi Guys:

Update:

In the absence of responses, which are understandable, I again contacted Logitech and Norton.

Logitech:

We can't go into your system, but we know how to fix it !

Norton:

The hacker planted something in my computer. It may crash me soon. I should hurry to buy a solution from Norton *( Some off shore foreigner with an accent ) They will fix my problem for a sum of $119.99 and I can subscribe to a three year program of protection for $359.
