Preferred Solution: i try to read load win 10 but i lost my acer softw...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: i try to read load win 10 but i lost my acer softw...

PLS HELP! Upgraded to windows 8 , system refresh and lost all my software, I need my emails folder!!Hey Everyone. Thanks for reading.

Ok heres my details:
1) I upgraded from windows 7 to 8, everything went fine! All my files and programs upgraded fine!!
2)when I upgraded I was messing with the settings and messed with the contrast. And my screen turned black and everything was outline.
3) tried to turn contrast off but it would not, spent an hour trying to figure out how to turn contract the setting off.
4)I read that I could do I "SYSTEM REFRESH"
5) performed a system refresh,
6) system refresh , did not fix the contract issue and "DELETED" all my software.
7) system refresh deleted my "windows live mail" and all my emails are gone!!

I tried looking into my" windows.old" folder but I think that the system refresh overwrote my windows 7 .old folder, and copied the previous windows 8 installation prior to the system refresh( the upgrade version form 7)

How can I find my emails folder?
should I restore my widows.old to the previous upgraded 8 windows( after upgrade but before system refresh) and will it help?

Thanks everyone, I just need my emails for my business, the rest of the software I can reinstall!!

Answer:PLS HELP! Upgraded to windows 8 , system refresh and lost all my softw

Hi zalezd. Welcome to EightForums.

I'm sorry to here your misfortune. I know this feeling of losing files all to well.

Did you backup files while using 7 prior to the 8 upgrade? If so, by what means.

Hello. It's the second time when I come here.
First I had this problem -
and now it got worse.
I don't know what happened to my Acer Aspire ES 14 (ES1-431-C8JZ). (I haven't dropped it or something like that)
When I turn it on, it stucks on Acer logo screen, and then I can't do anything.
I tried to restart it, same problem.
I tried to enter BIOS, Boot Manager, nothing works.
Then I disassembled it, reset bios, and again, nothing worked.
I made a bootable USB - Slax, I tought Linux could fix this, but it doesn't work. It doesn't boot. I tried to remove the hard drive so I can boot with Slax like this (I've heard about this feature of slax - to boot even without hard drive) but it won't pass the Acer logo.
It would be great if someone can tell me where is the problem or how to fix it. Thank you.

Answer:Laptop Acer won't load past Acer logo screen

Did you ever solve your previous thread?

It's possible that your hard drive is faulty, and it can't boot into Windows because of that.
I don't have any experience with Linux, so I can't confirm if Slax allows you to boot without a hard drive installed.

Do you have any spare hard drives lying around? If not, consider purchasing a low capacity one, installing Windows on it, and trying to boot then. If it still won't boot, then you didn't spend much money on the hard drive, and it'll narrow down your issue a little more.

Worst case scenario is there's something wrong with your motherboard (as per your other thread involving your USB ports).

I do not know how long you ran Win10 before rolling back. After I think 30 days Win10 removes the prior win8 files needed to roll back correctly. As is your hard drive boot partitions are corrupted. Again a windows recovery USB flash drive should be able to correct the errors. Even if done manually you need to boot from a USB device to fix the partitions. If the original restore is still valid you should be able to do a system restore from the bios menu options keeping in mind this will destroy all current data resetting the system to day 1 status like new.  The other option is to boot from a windows 8 or 10 DVD disc and again use the repair option to fix the partition errors.

I have successfully installed these software on Win7 32 bits, but they don't want to instal on MY Win7 64 bits. I tried the compatibility program, it offered Win XP (service pack 2) and asks me to "start the program" but clicking on "start" doesn't work, it doesn't respond and if I go to continue it tells me that the programm is incompatible. I tried Win 2000 with no better result. i ried both installing directly from the cd and copying it to the hard drive first and install from there. My dictionnaries are year 1995 -96 and younger, Larousse Fr-Eng, Larousse Fr-Spanish and Oxford Eng-Spanish. They work perfectly on Win7 32 bits and Win XP. I really don't want to buy them again from the publisher (that's what they told me to do), it's expensive. While 32bit programs will run fine on 64bit Windows 7, many programs that old have 16bit installers which will not work with the 64bit Windows 7.The only two choices you have is to either purchase a newer version or try installing a 32bit XP under a virtual machine and then try installing the program within that virtual XP program. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I had my new computer assembled (64 bits) and running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits. Now I am trying to make work some of my old computer's software, that I want to use. I am having some software and hardware problems:
1 - I want to install my printer, but the options for ports that appear on the list are: LPT1 to LPT3, COM1 to COM4 and XPSPort(local). The computer not has where to connect my LPT cable and I never heard of XPSPort(Port), any suggestion?
2 - I installed CoolEditPro 2.0 without error, but, when I want to run it, I receive the message WMVcore2.dll is missing. I found this file on my old computer's folder C:\winnt\system32. Probably only copy this file to my new computer, will not solve the problem. It probably is part of any other software that I not installed on my new computer. Any idea which software would install this dll?
3 - Installation of my Office2000 went fine. All works well, exception Outlook2000. I was able to open my pst file but, when I click on Addresses, I receive a message that wab.dll is missing. In my old computer, I not found this wab.dll, only outlwab.dll. I downloaded Thunderbird, installed it and was able to import my emails and address book.
4 - my scanner is a Genius CP-HR7x Slim. I tried to install the drivers that I have on the CD that came with the scanner. The driver installed without error, but Windows not recognizes my scanner. Is there any safe place where I can download 64 bits drive for my scanner?

My compuer hasnt crashed or blown up so this is not the reason i need a new cd. This friday im upgrading my computer(amd to intel) so i will need to reformat my drive. however i lost most of my instalation CD's when i moved (my XP cd included). I'm asking for someone to rip there OEM XP Pro SP2 cd and upload it somewhere so i can download it. i dont want anything else besides that. i do not trust any torrent sites to download an XP pro cd.
can anyone help me?

if this is against the rules or anything please delete this post.

Answer:Lost my OEM xp pro SP2 cd. Read and help me

It's against the rules. Your thread will probably end up locked.

Plus, if your XP Pro SP2 license is OEM you're not legally entitled to use it again when you change that rig from AMD to Intel, because that'd involve a motherboard change and effectively be a different PC.

Is there a way to get my CD-ROM to read all my CDs?

Well, it's not exatly a lost key. I bought The Sims Livin' large off of eBay and and it came with the orgianal box (opened). Everything is great (manuals, disk condition) excpet the CD case came without the back insert where the key is supposed to be. I looked on the box and and everywhere else and it's not there.

Plus, I really don't feel like paying $10 for a new one.

Answer:Lost CD Key (I know, rule breaking... please read)

And there is a reason not to buy games etc fro Ebay unless you are sure it has EVERYTHING, or it is a reputable seller.

If I were you, I'd be looking at the Ebay sale description, and if it says the licence key is with it (or even if it says something like 'complete game'), get on to the seller and ask for it. Then if they don't give it to you, report them to Ebay for fraudulent sale.

Other then that, pay the $10 and see it as a lesson learned.

I painted my girlfriends grandma's house, and in return she gave me her old computer.
The computers operating system is Windows ME. Anyway, she had told me that the orginal cd-rw drive that came with the computer had failed, and she had a tech replace it with a new one.

Well, I've had the computer for nearly a year now, and now the new cd-rw drive doesn't read the disc. The light flashes, and I can hear the disc spinning, but nothing else happens. I get a:
'"Please insert disc into drive D:" response when clicking on drive D.

Recently, I had to re-install Windows due to a techinical issue, and afterwards is when I noticed this problem.

I though that the cd-rw was missing a driver and I needed to download and install it so the cd-rw would function properly. So I pulled the driver out and got the following info:
CDRW 52x24x52 OEM
Model Number: 52X24X52 CD-RW
P/N: 91.3ED37.025
S/N: 30306900JE E2

I did a search online I couldn't find any drivers for this specific model. I don't know for sure if this is in fact the problem because I'm not a tech, but usaully am able to fix quite a few things.

Anyways, I'm totally lost. Does anybody know what the problem is? Can anybody offer any knowledge about it?? Is the drive broken crap? (I know Acer isn't good)

Hello there.

Recently, I figured out that I had the Virut.Q virus, which is basically a polymorphic virus that spreads and infects all your .EXE and .SCR files. Basically, it's the terminal cancer of online viruses. Anyways, I hadn't noticed until like, two days (approx. estimate), when my friend notified me that there had been a virus in one of the files I had had. I quickly downloaded a free trial of NOD32 only to find that my whole system32 folder was infected. I had no option except to reformat, but here's the stupid part. I went on with deleting the whole system32 folder, because NOD32 had detected that the Virut.Q had infected every SINGLE file in it. So it deleted it. I turned off my computer, and as I expected, it wouldn't log in. So my friend lent me a CD-R with Windows XP Service Pack 2 on it, and I just got home and put it in. Of course, I was planning to reformat. The problem is that when I boot-up CD-ROM first, it'll say Verifying DMI something something, I forgot, and then on the bottom, it would say, Boot up CD...... From there I would assume it was working, but it just continues on. Basically, it skips the boot up, and continues on to start up Windows XP.

So here my question, do you think this problem is with the CD-R, because again, it is considered a "warez", or do you think my computer will not read any CD again, and it's a paperweight? Is there any possible way to fix this?

My desktop PC can't read a Verbatim 'Pro UHS-I SDHC' 16gb-233X Card. The desktop PC is an Acer Aspire AM1641-E3750A running Windows 7, 64bit. When I inserted the SD card in the slot identified as 'SD' on the desktop PC, it appeared in Windows Explorer to be 'loading the computer'. Unfortunately, no data currently on the SD card appeared in a Windows Explorer icon. I was able to get the SD card to work on a Toshiba laptop running Windows Vista 64bit after installing a driver to update its SD slot. Is there an updated driver available for my desktop pc noted above? Thanks for any help you can give.

Answer:My Acer desktop PC can't read a Verbatim Pro UHS-I...

I would suggest checking our support page for all update drivers for your model and operating system. If there are none available, then we may no longer support driver updates for this model.
An alternative solution would be to copy all your data off that SD card on to another source, then format the drive using the Acer computer to see if that helps and allows your Acer desktop to recognize the card.

All the folders remain "read only" with administrative rights (Full control) grayed out. Even safe mode doesn't show an administrative account on the log-in. I tried creating an account called "administrator" and got a message that it already existed.

Here are the log files:

Yesterday when I rebooted my laptop I received a message stating that I had a potential hard drive issue and needed to run ckchdsk, which I did. Upon rebooting to Windows 7 I found that:
a) my Outlook.ost file was gone;
and in attempting to fix or find this I have had the following problems:
I received an error message: hstart.exe C:\windows\sysWOW64\ieframe.dll is iether not designed to run on windows or it contains an error whenever I click on a hyperlink in Outlook and on other occasions.
c) i cannot download a new copy of IE (I normally use FireFox)
d) I received the following error message when I attempted to do a system restore: System Restore Failed to extract the file c:users
I have run Norton Anti-virus, malwarebytes anti-malware, and rkill. I ran WinThruster against the hstart.exe but it failed to load. When I ran AdwCleaner it stopped about 20% done with an error message: AdwCleaner - v3.213 - Xplode - General Changelog Team -: adwclearner.exe  - C:\windows\sysWOW64\ieframe.dll is iether not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. I could not close the error message until I closed AdwCleaner.
Any suggestions as to what I might do to fix this?

Answer:Cannot load IE, lost .ost file and more

The first thing I'd do would be to back up anything I didn't want to lose.  Then I'd restore my computer to factory settings.  Alternatively you could try Boopme's standard list of things to try at this link:
When you've gotten your system back like you want it, I urge you to get yourself an external hard drive and a good 3rd party backup program. You can set it up to do everything automagically at the time and frequency of your choice. 1 TB external hard drives are about $60 these days and a really good FREE backup program is the Easeus Todo Backup Free.  That can save you a lot of time and frustration the next time something like this happens. Sooner or later it happens to all computers for one reason or another.
Good luck.

Hi All
I really hope someone can help me out there! I have an Acer Iconia tablet 32gb HHD (Chip on board I think - not removable).
I managed to install windows 8 over the preinstalled windows 7 and after deciding I really hated windows 8 I tried to put 7 back on.
Everything looked fine on the install and when it came to the select partition point I selected the option to format and delete partition, which it seemed to do. Then when I selected the new partition - windows 7 install said it could not install to this partition. I then came out of the install and tried to run CHKDSK in dos - this said that it could not run CHKDSK as the partition was read only.
At work they use sophos safeguard and I had used a usb on the tablet so I though that perhaps this had messed up the MBR so I then ran bootsect to try and repair this. I ran the CMD bootsect /nt52 /nt60 SYS ALL <c:> /force /mbr
but get the message - Access is denied.
I am thinking of installing the OS on a usb stick and then perhaps trying to unlock the HHD that way, but any other ideas would be appreciate.

My friend's laptop ended up getting messed up somehow so he asked me to clear everything off of it and re install the os. So like the last time I had to do it he gave me a system recovery disc and a few other disc's wich were un needed. While i thought this was going to be a simple task it turned out not to be. The problem with his computer is that windows pops up saying that windows did not start succesfully and a recent hardware or software change might have caused this. Windows will no longer boot in normal mode and it will only boot in safe mode. I have searched his computer for any spyware viruses ect with no virus or spyware showing up. So i thought of dissabeling the floppy drive in cmos but i rememberd that their was none and i tried re arranging the boot order but i have had no luck also i have tried choosing what to boot from and it still wont read the cd. This is starting to become more of a problem then once thought. Please help.

Hi! i have an Acer CDW8432IA and it won't read write i installed the drivers, and software. when i put a cd with data on it in it it shows nothing and when i try to write it says it cannot detect the drive???

could it be the drivers?

Answer:acer cdrw wont read or write!

Forget about writing for the moment. The drive has to work as a regular CDROM before it can do anything else.

Do you have a floppy boot disk you can test the drive with?

How did you physically connect the drive?

Strange problem here,

My Acer Aspire DVD can write DVD's and CD's but when you put a CD into it, then click on the drive, it shows nothing, as if there was no disk inserted.
BUt it writes...
AND it seems to work (ie see the CD contents) if I log into my wife's account...

Can't figure it out, nor can I figure out if I should send it in to be repaired...

Any idea what it could be?

basically i have an Acer Aspire 5670 Noteboook which i've had for about 18 months. Over the past few months I've noticed it will every now and then not read certain audio cds which i didn't see as a big problem. But now it will not read most CDs/DVDs with programs on it aswell, it just simply loads the disc, makes a few noises b4 not doing anything, and when i click on the DVD drive in My computer it is blank like there is no CD inserted

the cd/dvd drive is a 'pioneer dvd-rw dvr-k06rs' and it is saying it is running a driver version of '5.1.2535.0'. I'm not sure if i need to update the driver but i have searched online for sumwhere 2 do it but there is nowhere i can find

can someone please help me as this is really frustrating me as i now cannot even install any programs!

Answer:Acer Aspire 5670 Won't Read Discs

Hello David, Welcome to TSF!

There are a couple of ways that might help you with this issue.

Method One: Remove the registry entry

Warning: Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system.

Please Note: If you had installed multiple CD-writing software products on your computer, you need to uninstall the software products before you remove the registry keys.

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.

3. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

4. On the File menu, click Export.

5. In the File name box, type savedkey, and then click Save.

6. Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type UpperFilters, and then click Delete on the Edit menu. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

Note: If this data type is missing, go to Method 2.

7. Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type LowerFilters, and then click Delete on the Edit menu. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

8. Quit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

Method 2: Replace the existing driver

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

2. If Control Panel is in Category view, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.

I've moved this to the Security forum.

What did you do that caused the connection to be lost? Did you remove some spyware?

You can try this:

Click here to download LspFix. You can put LspFix on a floppy disk and run it on the machine that has lost the connection.

Launch the application, and click the "I know what I'm doing" checkbox. (Don't do anything else)

Then click Finish.

My friends computer currently is giving a "Read Disk Error, Please press Ctrl +Alt+Del to restart" message after the bios screen. I figured I'll just put in the windows cd run a repair and hopefully that should fix it.

So I first ran the HDD company's disk tools to make sure the Hard drive is not crapping out on me. It showed that it was perfect and nothing was wrong with it.

So I decided to continue with the windows xp home edition cd repair. I place the cd in and everything loads fine. I get the "Press any button to load from cd" option I do; however when I do this the first message that the windows cd is checking configuration in the top of the monitor pops up for about a half of a second and disappears and it goes to a black screen. I can hear the cd spinning fast and then slowly stop.

I cannot get it to go to the blue screen where it starts to load all of the files and drives. It just sits there all black

Now something strange though. I messed with bios and changed it to enable the raid; which it does not have and the windows xp cd will load. Of course it says that it cannot find any hard drives.

So basically I don't know what it is. My only thing is maybe it's the PCIexpress graphic card that is not working so the windows cd is loading but kicks the graphic card out of operation and so the screen goes black; but then I thought it would not work period whether or not I put the bios to raid or not which it is doing in raid.

There is a problem I have with a particular 100MB Maxell Zip Disk , and I don't even know what to research to fix the

I use Windows operating system, and my Zip Disk used to work in any Zip Drive. Now, when I insert this particular disk in the drive and I try to open it by double-clicking on the Zip Drive icon, it hangs for a minute. Finally, it shows only some of the folders I have saved on the disk (hence, I cannot access the rest of the data I saved on the disk). When I double-click on the folders that still exist, again, it hangs for a minute. In other words, accessing existing documents on this Zip Disk is a slow, and tedious process.

My other Zip Disks work just fine.

From what I understand, the disk has somehow been damaged. I am trying to find a way to recover the lost folders, because I know for a fact that even if you try to delete data, it is still in the system, and that there are free tools you can download from the Internet that will recover lost data. My problem is, I don't know where to look for help, and I've been googling every conceivable phrase relating to my Zip Disk.

Please point me in the correct direction and I will appreciate. Thanks in advance.

Not sure why that would be happening and it appears to be ok as I am using the site.

The one thing that I know of that can cause this is if you are using the back button in your browser as that will loose the colour change on read threads.

What's wrong? My Acer computer moves slow and has trouble booting (constantly has to fix errors, etc after proper shutdown/reboots). I would like to reload XP Pro with a complete format to try and fix the issues. This Acer was bought as a refurb about 1.5 years ago from TigerDirect and no OS disc was included. What I have:An Acer TravelMate computer, loaded w/ Windows XP ProThe key to the Acer's XP Pro on the key tag under the computerAn Operating System CD for XP Pro which states, "for distribution only with a new HP or Compaq PC"Can I load this on the Acer and reactivate the key without having problems? I also have the HP disk which is for loading all the extras (if that makes sense; sorry I don't have it in front of me) that come w/ the HP.I've successfully loaded it to another computer w/ no problems (less drivers that need to be installed), but that was an older HP, previously loaded with XP Pro w/ its own key. Thanks in advance. Hi!!,,I am new to this community.  Next to buying my new Acer Aspire VS joining this community is probably the best decision I've made thus far....
5 years ago I purchased an Acer One ZG8 Netbook.  I have gotten alot of use although now I am facing a crash with Windows XP not loading.  I wanted to do a factory reset and see if there is any hope to keep this older Acer as a back up netbook.  After powering up the Acer One,,,Windows XP will not load.  I am faced with a black screen offering options:
1.Safe Mode
2. Safe Mode with Networking
3. Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Or Last known good configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
Lastly, Start Windows Normally
Finaly, it prompts me to use the down arrow keys to choose with a 30 second countdown ticker.
I HAVE tried all the options for weeks and weeks.  Just as Window XP loads a blue screen with word flash so quickly I can not possibly read it.  I am very very close to letting this older version Acer meet its maker --- although through my ignorance I have realized just maybe I could do some sort of factory reset.  This is where I need the Acer Community expertise.  Please,,,,please if anyone could give any suggestions to bring some sort of life back to this Acer One----I would be so grateful.  I am totally ok with loosing any info and starting from the factory reset.
Please forgive this legnthly post....and I await,,,,

If pressing the Alt + F10 key combo on powering up does not bring up a recovery screen, then press F2 or esc on startup to access the bios. Check to see if the bios menu has an option that enables hard disk recovery. If it does, enable it and try the Alt+F10 startup combo again. It may ask for a password. Try six zeroes. Jack E/NJ

Hello everyone! I am pulling my hair out right now! We have an Acer Aspire 5745 Notebook that my mom originally bought a few years ago because she started taking some college classes. Windows 7 Home Prem OA Acer Group was pre-installed to the laptop and the crappy thing is the activation code on the sticker beneath the laptop has rubbed off!

So last week when I went to shut down the laptop, Windows needed to install some updates. It does this every now and then and the number of updates is never the same. Sometimes it's just 1, sometimes it's 8; this time 14 updates were installed. The next day when I went to turn on the system, it wouldn't go to the login screen. It would flash the Acer logo again and go to a black screen that said Windows was unable to start and it gave me options of Startup Repair, Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Start Windows Normally, etc. I would choose Startup Repair and do a restore to earlier time point and that would work and after that completed I could access the login screen. This happened again after the 14 updates needed to be reinstalled. Finally after doing a different system restore, which failed and had an error, it would let me once again access the login screen but this time the Netgear router had "limited access" and wouldn't connect to the Internet.

So most recently, I went to the Acer eRecovery Management and did a restore that would restore the system to factory con... Read more

I have an Acer Aspire 5920 with Vista home premium 32-bit. It has been very sluggish and I wanted to go back to factory settings. I followed the instructions to run the recovery off the d drive. After about 30 minutes the system rebooted and i got a disk read error Press Ctrl +Alt + Del to restart. This just continues with a loop.

I had made recovery discs when I bought the machine in 2008, but can't access them with the disk error. I can reach the bios and have the cd drive as 1st in the boot order.

Any insight or help on getting this machine back in business.

Hey all!  I wasn't sure where to post this problem, as it involves both hardware and possibly software problems, in the end I went with Hardware so apologies if I made the wrong call!I have an Acer Aspire 7741G running Windows 7 with SP1, it has an intel Core i5 cpu, with a 750GB hard drive, and 4GB RAM, the graphics card is  an AMD Radeon HD 6550M.  The DVD/CD-ROM is an HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GT32N.I decided to reinstall Windows yesterday, just to clean up my machine, and used the Acer Erecovery Management tool to do a full reinstall.  Everything seemed to go well (I had the 2 bars showing progress of the install, etc....), then the computer restarted and immediately gave me the dreaded BSoD with the error STOP c000021a (I think it was this).  I tried to restart Windows normally, numerous times and it either shutdown, or showed a BSoD and then shutdown.  When I tried to run in Safe Mode I got the same BSoD.  I eventually managed to restart Windows by choosing the 'Start Windows with Networking' option or something like this.As soon as Windows had restarted, I decided I should burn a copy of this clean install, just to be on the safe side (something I should have done when I first got the computer, but never got around to!).  This is when I realised the the DVD/CD-ROM was no longer working.  The drive is visible in My Computer and the Device Manager says that it is working correctly, but it will not read any disks.  I ... As you all may know I'm not the savviest of users. Long ago when using 7 early on I botched up trying to remove an Acer OEM partition to no avail only to be left missing roughly 65GBs of my hard drive and not being able to see the partition. Luckily I didn't destroy the HD!

Thanks to this forum I found a nice little free utility that Brink introduced here: Partition - Recover Deleted Partitions in Windows that I ran and it was able to see the partition. Not only that partition, but a bunch of smaller ones. I couldn't believe my eyes when I came to look at this after it was finished scanning!

I am asking for help to clean this mess up. Below is the results of the scan. The first one listed (no label) is my Windows 8 Pro partition. The one labled 8.1 is obviosly my 8.1 RP that I dual boot. The one with the checkmark with no label I'm guessing is the Acer partition. As you can see Windows Disk Management does not see any other partitions other than 8 and 8.1.

If at all possible, what do I need to do to correct this? I'd like not to touch my 8 partition because of Office, but I will if I need to. 8.1 is just a preview. What are all those smaller ones? What does overlapped mean?

Answer:Lost Acer OEM Partition

It looks like a mess, but it isn't really. It looks like your drive is, or thinks it is actually a 250GB ST250620AS with Guaranteed sectors 488,397,168. Your maximum sector count (LBA) is 488394750 which fits this nicely.

I'd check out what is written on the disk drive label, and what was written on the specs for your Acer model when you bought it.

Acer Aspire T690 Specs (Pentium D 935 3.2GHz, 1GB RAM, 250GB HDD, Vista Home Premium) - Desktops - CNET Reviews

The usable size of a disk is less than the advertised capacity, because 300GB would be 300,000,000,000 Bytes according to the disk manufacturer.

This is the decimal Gigabyte.

Your operating system, NTFS uses the binary gibibyte or 1073741824 bytes

The capacity of a 300GB disk would be 279,396,772,384, under NTFS, or about 93% of the rated capacity.

The capacity of a 250GB disk would be 232,830,643,653, again about 93% of the rated capacity.

You currently get 135.23 + 97.66 = 232.89, which is spot on with any rounding errors.

So there is no lost space, and Disk Manager is not wrong. When you upgraded from Vista to 7, you gained the space from the OEM partition to approximately the maximum possible for your disk.

Don't worry about the lost or overlapping partitions, they have nothing of value to you any more, they are just ghosts of systems past. Do label your volumes in the disk properties - it may resolve ambiguity when you may need it for future proble... Read more

acer 5542 will power up but will not load windows. I have tried all the repairs offered in it's repair section. No matter what I do it ends up with a blue screen with no choices and will stay there forever until you power off. how can I fix this?

Answer:how can I get my acer 5542 to load windows 7

The blue screen info might be useful to some folks here; I used to be able to decipher etc. its contents - but it was an age ago...Does it not boot into safe-mode? Have you tried last known good config? You say you have tried all the repair options offered...This is a laptop so it "might" be worth try Derek's often suggest fix; which surprisingly at times doth work... viz:Remove mains power - "and" the battery; press and hold the on/off button for about 30secs. Then restore battery/mains power and see if it this odd process has resolved it... Odd though it may sound it does often resolve a range of problems...Meanwhile.. were there any issues prior to the current situation; and odd events? There are two styles of repair in windows; one via the recovery console (personally seldom found it to of any real effect/use), and the other NOT via the recovery console. The latter is in effect a repair installation - more or less an overwrite of the current installation. (Theoretically it doesn't overwrite/erase your personal files etc. but wise to take precautions for those regardless - see later details below).Details on the repair installation routine here: (This is the M$-discussion about it.)I would read all three and likely follow either of the first two - as they seem a little clearer than the M$ version...?Key issue of course is your personal files safety... If they aren't already... Read more

Bought the above a couple of days ago and whilst I was viewing it the seller said that the Vista would load sometimes 10 mins or even up to half a hour but it wiil go eventually so I chanced my luck and bought it thinking it was memory or virus. I thought a clean install would not go amiss so having a copy of Vista I tried to install. The scenario is.. read from disc is normal speed then when completed the brakes come on. It will eventually near completion up to when it reboots to finalise it stays on the progress bar screen, progress bar moves extremely slowly and now and again speeds up for a couple of seconds BUT that seems to be it. In view of the fact that the read is OK but when it is handed over to Mobo is this where the issue is, can Mobo cause this problem. It appears that memory is ok and have had HD connected to my Desktop to slow format and there appeared no hiccups there. It runs just like it would be a memory issue. Cant get into Bios as it is password locked.

First check for all the Win XP drivers for your hardware on the manufacturer's web site.
If your Win XP CD, does not support your Sata Controller, you will need to load drivers to uses at F6.
Load Sata Controller drivers with a floppy disk is the best way.

Unable to load windows up on my Acer laptop. It is putting all the windows information up but then I get a message to say unable to load windows in safe mode. Turn off and it will reboot again. But then the same message comes up.

Answer:acer will not load windows up after using a new modem.

When Windows won't start even in safe mode, it usually means a hardware issue - faulty or incompatible device.Disconnect the new modem from your laptop and restart your laptop to see if Windows is then able to run.

I'm trying to run the acer eRecovery on a laptop, but when I hit Alt F10 at the Acer splash screen it just displays this screen.

Edit windows boot options for: Microsoft Windows Vista

Path: \windows\system32\winload.exe

partition: 2
hard disk: d9007594

And at the bottom of the screen it says to hit 'enter' to submit and 'esc' to cancel. I checked the bios and D2D recovery is enabled. It did this after I did a fresh install of Vista. I only formatted the C drive, didn't touch the other two partitions. Before the reinstall I was able to enter the eRecovery partition, but there was a password that I didn't know what it was. That is why i reinstalled from the Vista disc.

After the reinstall I was able to see the recovery partition under 'computer' which seems odd to me. Is that something that could be causing me problems?

Answer:Acer eRecovery partition will not load

Just an update on my progress. I downloaded and installed eRecovery from and I am running the recovery now. Well the program says it's going to run then it reboots the laptop and just goes right back into vista. Any Ideas??????????

Also any idea what type of partition this should be. I ran ptedit32 and it lists it as a 12. is this correct?

I just bought a new Compaq Presario with Windows 7 and it takes 20+ minutes to load when starting up (I did not buy a new monitor and I am using the acer AL1716 I already had). My previous computer had Windows XP and loaded with no problems. I took the Compaq back to the store where I bought it and it loaded up on the store monitor with no problem. It appears this problem is related to the acer AL1716 monitor. When I checked the acer website, it does not list Windows 7 as a compatible operating system with this monitor. Is there a fix for this or do i just need to buy a new monitor?

Answer:20+ minutes to load W7 on Acer LCD monitor

Have you tried booting into Windows Safe Mode (F8 at start up)?The monitor should be compatible. Are you using any type of adapter between the monitor and the tower?

I've used for about 1 year an HP Elite m9426f, Core 2 Quad 2.4Ghz, 8GB RAM, 600GB HD, ATI HD Radeon 3670, Vista Business 64 bit as a dedicated HD recording computer.

Yesterday, I decided to partition the HD and created a C: and two data partitions. There is a 13GB recovery partition labelled PRIMARY.

I ran Defraggler to compact the OS and program files into the C: volume, and which is is supposed to migrate any files into the C: drive-(works in DOS?) when setting the partitions, but perhaps something got orphaned into a new partition and Windows wouldn't open- "corrupted files".

No matter how many times I pressed F11 at startup, it would not enter the recovery utility that would reinstall the Vista 64 Business. I tried F2, F11, F8 and trying to launch it as an application from Win Explorer- no good. Of course, I was too lazy and never made the recovery disks.

I did a full format on C: and tried- probably 8 times by now!- installing Windows 7 Ultimate 64 on the clean C: drive. This would go through all the motions until the very end of "Completing Installation" and I would see a message for perhaps 1/2 second, something close to : "Windows can not configure Windows on this computer" and instantly shut down- - no messages, no diagnostics, no options- bonkers! > sudden blackness- it was as though the computer was angry!

I tried installing Win 7 64 in every combination, then tried installing Win 7 32 bit- no good. This Win 7 ... Read more

Answer:Lost Vista 64 bit > Unable to load from Recovery, Win 7- 32 or 64 bit

To try forcing Factory Recovery if it remains on the HD, mark the Partition Active and reboot, tap F11 repeatedly to see if it will start. Partition - Mark as Active (Method Two)

Another method is to install EasyBCD (free Download at bottom of page - no name or email required) then browse to the boot.wim file on the Recovery partition to add it to a Dual Boot menu that will trigger Recovery at reboot. To find boot.wim you'll need to unhide System and Hidden files in Control Panel>Folder Options>View, give Recovery a letter in Disk Mgmt if it doesn't have one, then browse from Add New Entry tab in Easy as shown below:

If this fails there is no reason to save the Recovery partition as you will need to order Factory Recovery disks from HP since you didn't make them or Clean Reinstall. So I would wipe the HD to see if Win7 or Vista 64 bit will install as desired using Diskpart Clean Command accessing from DVD DISKPART At PC Startup .

Unplug all other peripherals and HD's, reset BIOS to defaults: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS. While in BIOS setup set SATA controller to AHCI to try install.

Boot the installer to Custom Install deleting all partitions if you didnt' wipe HD, follow these steps to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Hi everyone,

I have an Acer Aspire 3000 with a serious problem, it won't load Windows XP and Windows XP is the installed OS.

What happened before the error:
tried to install Norton Systemworks 2006. Before this, computer was working fine, and yes, I did scan it for viruses. None were found.
computer had a partition, but the partition was removed.

Now, I got this computer from a confused cousin, and the history is as follows;

She bought the computer new. However, there was this strange partition in there that seemed to be duplicating everything (or so she told me), so she took it to a friend to have the partitions removed. Okay, the computer worked fine after that. Actually, better than fine, it worked better than it had new. I know, lol, because I tried using it once before and again after.

Now, flash forward a few months and her free trail of McAfee that came with the computer ends and she realizes that she needs some sort of security on it. So she buys Norton as suggested by another friend of hers. Knowing I know something of computers (and she's not all that sure), she gets me to install Norton.

I do.

And upon re-starting, I get after the Acer load screen a black screen with "Load error! Press any key to reboot." I press enter, but nothing happens.

So, in it goes to the friendly computer guy who uses the disks that came with the machine to restore it, and it comes back exactly as it was before I installed Norton, only, minus all her saved stuf... Read more

Answer:My Acer Aspire 5536 won't load Vista

Have you left any CD/DVD's in the drive or a USB flash drive inserted? if so remove them and try again. If you have a card reader check there is nothing in it and if a blank is fitted make sure it is properly inserted.

Will it boot from the OS disc?

Unfortunately, if this is not the case, your hard drive has probably failed. Run this diagnostic from the hard drive manufacturer. You will need to use another PC to download the ISO and burn it to a disk.

Identify the make of your hard drive and then use one of the links below to get the manufacturers diagnostic for ISO CD. Burn the image file to a CD, boot the PC with the disc in the drive and run the diagnostics. You first need to set the CD drive to 1st in the boot order in the Bios setup.

If you do not have an image burner use this free software to make the CD.

I have Acer Aspire 5320 laptop and the problem is that it won't load past the windows xp loading screen without getting a blue-screen error message. It will not load at all.

Tried the automatic repair at command prompt - won't work. Screen stays black.
safe mode - won't work (because as it loads - gets blue screen of death)
Normal Start-up - Won't work (blue screen of death either at main windows logo loading screen or after seemingly able to log in - get blue screen of death.

This may be unrelated or not... I don't know if it may help with your expertise but I had a problem with Disk Check as it kept restarting from possibly an interrupted shut-down process. So I consulted google; found a forum other than this one, that solved this problem. Followed the steps on there and had to disable automatic disk check at every start-up. Then deal with the boot problem at the registry edit carefully! Disabled it. Then had to use command prompt to do ftsuil - find out it was C: drive then ran that checkdisk /f to get it to work. It seemed to have fixed it - no problems the past few days until now.

I suspect I may have a virus on my laptop; from looks of it - may be malicious and beyond my amateur computing skills. I know I've got windows defender on there but not sure if I remember any anti-virus on there; maybe AVG. Either that, or my computer has a serious low memory problem.

Feel free to ask me any questions that will help me solve this problem. Thanks in advance for your help... Read more

What does the BSOD message say?
Boot off of the XP CD Or download the Recovery Console ISO. Burn it to CD with IMGBurn and get to the Recovery Console. Here type chkdsk /R and press enter. The Check Disk utility will try and fix any file errors.
You can also download the ISO image for Drive Fitness Test in my signature and burn the image to a CD using IMGBurn and boot off of the newly created CD and run the short and extended tests on the HDD to test the integrity of the drive.
