Certain keyboard keys don't work Acer Aspire V3-57...

Question: Certain keyboard keys don't work Acer Aspire V3-57...

Hello, A few months ago I began to have issues with my Acer Aspire V3-571G-9435 where certain keys would intermittently stop working. Most often it would be the "A" key, along with less frequently the "C" and "Z" keys, and somtimes other keys. Within a minute or so they would start working again. A couple weeks ago, however, several of the keys, including the "A" "C" "Z" "F" "," "." and some other keys stopped working altogether (all at once). Following some guides I found online, I took the laptop apart and was able to take the keyboard ribbon cable out of its connector and put it back in, thinking it may be a loose connection issue. However, this did not fix the issue. I went online and ordered a new keyboard from Amazon, thinking the keyboard itself might be broken. After installing the new keyboard however, and entirely NEW set of keys have stopped working, including "J" "Q" "T" "U" "P" "1" and a few other keys. (However most of the keys that weren't working previously are working again). Does anyone have any other suggestions about what I should do? I've been using an external USB keyboard, which works fine, except obviously portability is sacrificed. I'm unsure if this is a hardware or software issue, as a brand new keyboard still isn't working properly. Could there still be something wrong with the connection? Is there a possible software/diver issue? Thanks for any help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Certain keyboard keys don't work Acer Aspire V3-57...

jmckeen,

A new keyboard means a new ribbon cable so that leaves the only constant, the motherboard; pending the unit was not damaged in any way from like dropping it or spilling something on it. If you are in warranty I would see about creating a repair for it. Here is the link to set up repairs online, or you can chat online with a technician (available 24/7).

Acer 5830tg Aspire TimeLine I have been using it for close to 4 yrs and I am a big fan of ACER, This is my second ACER Laptop..  Many Keys needs to be pressed really hard for it to work.. Does replacing the keyboard solve the issue? I didn't expect parts issue from ACER.

Answer:Acer 5830tg Aspire TimeLine some Keys are not work...

Try vacuuming and blowing on the keyboard while whisking in and around the keys with a fine-bristle cosmetic brush to dislodge food particles and other debris that have likely accumulated under the keypads. If that doesn't resolve the issue, new replacment keyboards are available for less than $20 with free shipping. I have inherited an old Acer Aspire 5920 Laptop. It originally came with windows Vista 32 bit installed. I've nuked that and installed Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. I managed to find all the relevant drivers and there is nothing flagged in device manager as having a problem. Everything appears to work with the exception of the row of Media Keys down the right hand side of the keyboard right above the DVD drive. The key with the little person symbol works when pressed but all the remaining keys that are lit up blue don't. These keys are the play pause stop etc. They brighten up for a second if you press on one of them but don't actually do anything in Media player, Media center, or Acer Arcade. I'd be happy if they just worked in Windows Media Player. Non of the Acer empowering apps are compatible with Windows 7 and are not installed. The only exception is the Acer Launcher App which allows me to program the Blue e key and the e-mail etc keys that are on the left hand side of the keyboard. There is another set of media keys on the actual keyboard that are accessed using the Fn key that work. It would just be nice to be able to use the other ones that are lit up and easy to see in the dark. I sometimes like to lay down and listen to some music with the lights off and its a bit of a pain trying to use the other keys to stop or pause the music in low light conditions.

Answer:Acer Aspire 5920 Blue Media keys don't work?

thats the only problem with older tech and newer os. ive got a laptop that i put windows 7 on, but there are no compatible audio drivers for its chipset that work with windows 7.

That said, with my friends acer that i fixed and installed windows 7 on, to get the media keys on his working i tried downloading the drivers for a newer acer computer with hot keys and it worked.

I have an Acer Aspire 1640z running XP sp 2. It has been working perfectly but has recently started playingup!

VERY slow start up and shut down (nothing seems to be happening).

Touchpad and keyboard working intermittently (although a usb mouse works fine).

Explorer.exe and then Connections Tray won't end properly when I shut down the laptop, so I have to do it manually.

The rest of the laptop seems to work fine.

Any ideas greatly appreciated!!!

Answer:acer aspire 1640z keys only work intermitent and wont close down

Clear ALL your cache and temp files, defrag, make sure the air vent is clear.

These are 'simple' places to start.

If that doesn't 'fix' things, be OFF line, click Start, Run and type msconfig and press enter.

Under Startup, uncheck everything.

Under Services, put a check in 'Hide all Microsoft services' and then uncheck what's left.

Reboot. (Restore AV if disabled via msconfig) Any change?

jayvee,

As long as nothing was spilled or the unit was dropped that would typically mean that the keyboard itself could be defective, the keyboard ribbon could be loose, or the motherboard could be defective. Depending on your level of expertise, you can check the ribbon cable to make sure it did not come loose from the motherboard, otherwise you might have to take the system to a local technician and see about getting some assistance.

Hi!  I am having a hard time trying to find the correct Driver for my Acer Aspire X3470.  Currently I am using the standard PS/2 Keyboard to input commands.  But I do not want to use that Keyboard and I want to use my USB Keyboard. I tried everything to get the right driver for it but I am having no luck at all... is there anyone that could possibly help me identify this problem¿

Answer:USB Keyboard Drivers do not work Acer Aspire X3470

Hi rnoctus83, The keyboard should have an installation CDC for the driver or once you connected the system should look for the driver automatically, i would suggest to go directly to the manufactures page of your keyboard and look for the driver and installed manually and if it works that way.

If you have restored the system back to the original operating system it could have a hardware issue that would require a call to the Acer technical support in your area for options.

my keyboard starting to act wierd for about a month ago. my keyboard sends multiple keys to my laptop if I press the a button, the tab, esc, caps and the 1 key. for example: if I press a, I get a axcfn,./; alt is also active. as this is quite ennoying, the tab sends me to sleep mode, and esc activates flightmodus (great when gaming online). somehow I got to fix this temporary when rebooting or gently smashing into the keyboard (I tried to vacuum clean it, but that failed too).well, this morning have these keys decided stop sending anything to the laptop.  has anybody any Idea of what could happen and how I could fix it? thanks in advance Peter

I am working on an Acer Aspire 5050. When I first saw it, you had to strike the keyboard keys with force and repeatedly to get it to type a letter. On average, for every 10 strikes, it would type 4 strokes. I have researched this and have found no answers, just a lot of speculation and "try a restore or reformat", which is not an option for this owner. I tried disabling the Launch Manager, which controls the keyboard, but it made no difference after it reinstalled. I did see a post about the ACPI possibly being an issue. Since I could not find a way to disable it, and I did not want to risk having no battery management and who knows what other side effects, I decided to try the unit without the battery installed. I shut down the computer, removed the battery and rebooted the computer. Guess what - no more keyboard issue!! However, as soon as I put the battery back in, the keyboard stopped working properly again! The battery still seems to hold a good charge, lasting 1.5 hours according to the owner.
Does anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks!

It seems that your Number Lock got enabled. You can disable it by following the steps below and see if that helps:1. Press and hold the Function (Fn) key and press the F11 key once.2. Hello PHIL528,

Re-attaching keys on notebook keyboards can be very tricky and it is likely you will have a problem attaching it back on the keyboard because of the way the keys are mounted. If you break the key or the mount under the key you would need to have the keyboard replaced. Separate keys are not available to send to users.
There are other user talking about this in the Community, but Acer does not give support for re-attaching keys.

My acer aspire 177 6432 has developed a huge problem recently and I'm not exactly sure how it happened. I bought the laptop about 3 years ago and haven't had many issues. Suddenly some keys don't work (I, o, shift, backspace, some numbers, etc), when I turn it on it opens to the setup screen (I've hit "reset to defaults" and "save" and it keeps popping up to set up untill I hit "discard charges"), at the login screen the password bar fills with characters as if I'm holding down on a button but then stops (I had to change my password because only certain keys work). Also I can't open defrag, a black window opens for a split second and then nothing.

Had similar issues with another netbook model. Started when the weather got really hot and humid around here last week. Some keys didn't work at all while others didn't work as they should (eg double characters, pressing c yielded cv, b yielded bn, etc). External USB keyboard worked fine. The problem? Hygroscopic debris (food particles, hair, dust, and whatnot) trapped under the keys and keyboard in and around the ribbon connector to the mainboard. The remedy? A softbristle brush, vacuum cleaner (sucking and blowing). Drier weather conditions helped too. 8^) Jack E/NJ

Answer:Acer Aspire 5820T keys not working

Oftentimes spillages will make keys sticky and sometimes block function. Keyboard cleaning instructionals for the Acer 5820t are available to online search. In the meantime, if you need urgent keyboard use, you should be able to access an "on-screen" keyboard in your START/PROGRAMS/ACCESORIES menu with the other "Ease of Access" features, like magnfier. (I typed this reply on the on-screen keyboard).

Hi.  The main arrow navigation keys are not functional on my Aspire E15 -- nothing happens when they are pushed.  They do function as expected when Fn is held down, so there is presumably nothing physically wrong with them.  The arrow functions at 2 4 6 and 8 on the numeric pad work fine (as long at the machine is not in numeric keypad mode).  Putting the machine into numeric keypad mode leaves me without arrow keys, i.e., it has no effect on the main ones. This feels like a setting somewhere gone awry, but I haven't been able to find anywhere to reset it -- no keyboard options in the Bios settings and the Control pane keyboard sections just show "standard PS/2 keyboard". Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have an Acer aspire 5755G and some of the keys have stopped working (6,8 and 9 of the top row number keys). Very occasionally they might start working again for a few minutes, or if i start tapping them hard they may start to work for a bit. But in general they don't work at all.

I plugged in a usb keyboard and all of the keys work, so I am assuming this is a mechanical problem.

I am going to attempt to replace the keyboard myself as i managed to find one video, its in a diff language but I think I can see how he does it Thay th?o s?a l?p b?n ph?m Acer Aspire 5755G keyboard replacement fix assembly guide - YouTube

However I thought before i go ahead I would ask on here is there anything else you suggest i do which might fix it. I assuming there is no way this can be a problem in the os/bios and its definitely hardware related?

I don't have any warranty left either

Thanks

Answer:Keys not working - Laptop - Acer Aspire 5755G

Hello Robwan,

Usually, if just a few keys stop working... it's a bad keyboard. This happens a lot with Gaming Computers, due to the heavy use of certain keys.

If an external keyboard works, I'd consider replacing the onboard keyboard. You can also test using the on-screen keyboard, as well.

A new keyboard can be purchased on ebay or keyboard.com

Hope this helps,
John

Hi everyone I'm at my wits end! I cannot get my webcam to work. I have tried numerous options posted in different forums and on websites but nothing seems to work. Even when I went to the Acer update driver search site. When I added my model number I got about a dozen driver options but as soon as I put in my OS Windows 7 (64 Bit) it came back with no drivers. I've noticed in a number of forums that peoples webcams where working fine in Windows XP but when they updated to Windows 7 they lose the ability for their computers to find their webcams. Is this an inherent problem with Windows 7 and is there anyway to fix it short of buying an external webcam. Surly there must be a way to get it to work !!!

You would have to delete the junk Acer installs on your computer. Its not something built into Windows. I don't have an Acer...even if I did...I wouldn't know what program it is.

Have you tried putting the keyboard in another computer? If these keys work in another computer, then it may be an issue with your driver or USB slot. If the keys still don't work in another computer, then the keyboard may be broken and you might need to get a new one.

Certain keys on my Acer's V7 482PG's keyboard stopped working(R,T,F,G,V).  Not sure if Windows 10 is the issue since I've only been using an external keyboard (which works fine) on my laptop since I got Windows 10.  Already tried updating the ELAN & Synaptics drivers.  Also tried going to Device Manager, uninstalling drives shown under keyboard and restarting the computer.  Issue persists.  Keyboard used to work fine with Windows 8 as far as I can remember.

So i am to get from your Post that your Keys R, T, F, G and V don't work at all? Or do they work but giving wrong keys? If they are not working I would try and get some Compressed air and see if maybe somehting is under the keys....  If that isn't the issue I would then take your system apart, take the ribbion cable out then re attatch it and try the keyboard again. IF they work good. If not then I would then think you would need to get a replacement.... Hope this helps someJames

I would like to know how to set the hot keys at the top of the keyboard. There is round one that has a Z on it that wakes the PC up. The next one is to sign on to the internet but it only works under my session and I would like to set it up to work on my husbands session.

If I could find instructions for the keyboard I could find out what the rest of the keys work on as well.

Any help would be appreciated.

The left and right navigation/arrow keys just died. Above them I notice an euro and a dollar key. I think of remapping those currencys key to the left and right arrows, since shift 4 and altgr 5 also produce those currency characters. With installed linux, programs xev (and xinput test) I read no keycode output for the currency keys next to the up key. In fact I don't remember them ever working. For all other keys, except the defect left and right, I read an output keycode. Any suggestions for a solution?

i got this keyboard on ebay for my sons wii. it works great with the wii except for some of the "fn" keys are locked. some of the alpha keys have blue icons for numbers and other functions....when I hit the 'fn' key with the numlock key...all it does it lock the numbers assigned to those alpa keys. I cannot use the letters, U<I<O<P<J<K<L<:<M....instead i get 4,5,6,*,1,2,3,0.

I tried customer support w acer and they wont give support for this unless you own the computer. i just need to know what the magic combination is so i can un-"function" these functions.

Answer:The control keys on my Aspire V5 have stopped work...

Hi, You speak about control key (ctrl), why do you think launch manager would help you? I don't think is a software issue. Probably is a keyboard issue and you need a keyboard replacement. Anyway if you still believe that the problem is software related, you can always try to boot a live CD from ubuntu (or a USB), and see if the ctrl works there. But I highly doubt.

The letters e, d, c, t and b aren't typing. I cleaned it out and it's 100% clean. I reinstalled the disk that it came with and tried moving the receiver around. I changed the batteries and that doesn't help either. It's a keyboard from Dynex and it came with a wireless mouse but I threw it away but that's not what is causing this problem. Now certain keys will NOT work at all, regardless of capitalization or use of special functions (brackets for example): d g j q s { } [ ] < > , .(the period). I currently have to use the On-Screen Keyboard to type, which is very slow. Rebooting, btw, did NOT make a difference...remained exactly the same. Plus, Sticky Keys are OFF. This is a major problem for me because I teach English online and need ALL the keys to work properly ASAP. I have online classes tomorrow. Answer:some keyboard keys don't work

In an emergency you can try a USB keyboard, but I suspect that if it is software/driver related you may have the same problem. The first thing I would try to fix the problem is to try a system restore to before you began having trouble. If this does not help, go to the manufacturer's site and download updated drivers for your system and install them. This could have been a windows update, which either, especially updating the driver should fix (especially if this was an upgrade from Vista and you still have Vista drivers). You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

This could be a driver problem with your computer. If has been recently updated to W7, then make sure that you have all proper drivers for your keyboard. However, chances are that you fried your keyboard (spilling something or other such instances have been known to do this). Try contacting your Laptop manufacturer.

I loaded up a Acronis TI boot disk and the keyboard and trackpoint worked fine...but then i tried it again and only the keyboard worked and no trackpoint or pad.I tried the IBM PC doctor and it said no mouse found.....ran full test and all passed. So far i have tried updating the BIOS and embedded controller to the latest with no luck.Ive also tried a quick fresh install....no luck...still either on or off. However, if i plug my usb wireless mouse in the mouse cursor works fine...always...Its just that sometimes the trackpointSo i guess my next step is to open her up, but im waiting to hear back on any suggestions first....and i got to find a service manual for it...Any ideas???  Thanks in advance.

It sounds like a flakey keyboard. If it is still in warranty Lenovo will send you one for free. If not they are not very expensive and they are easy to replace. If you want to tear it down you will need the Hardware Maintenance Manual.

Answer:some keys on my keyboard wont work

This is either the keyboard or keyboard controller. The only way to tell is to replace keyboard - which you have already done. Then if not the keyboard controller on Motherboard (expensive fix) so, if it is the controller you may want to try an external keyboard at least to keep using the unit at a resonable cost.

I lost the use of several keys on my keyboard a few years ago, namely the crtl, c, n, m, and possibly others.
I have been using an external keyboard ever since.

I have tried to rectify this by first purchasing a new keyboard, which did not solve the problem, and more recently i replaced the VGA board (which the keyboard plugs into) because i had lost some display capabilities. The display works great with the new VGA board but the same keys still do not work?!

Does this seem like a problem that can be solved any other way?

Answer:Some keys on the keyboard don't work on my TE2100?

Hello

Do you have the same issue with an external keyboard or only with the internal keyboard?

It?s not easy to say what the reason is for this but if you have the same issue with a new keyboard I think the keyboard controller or connector on the mainboard is faulty.

But check the external keyboard first and maybe reinstalling Windows can solve it too.
In worst case you should replace the mainboard.

I am also having issues with my keyboard on a brand new HP Envy. The " and @ characters are reversed. After a reset they revert to normal for a short time and then the same thin happens all over again. I'm also having issues with Microsoft Edge. It will not close using the usual x at top right of window. I have to open task manager and close it from there every time.

Happy Thanksgiving US residents!
The keyboard that came with my family's eMachine, has buttons that don't work. The buttons are the extra features such as copy, paste, open internet, adjust volume, etc. Those extra buttons don't work but the standard keys do. Is this a driver issue? How can this be fixed?
