Question: My Aspire V5-561P-6823's touchpad randomly stops f...

I have updated the driver for my touchpad, but it still randomly stops recognizing any touch gestures or button clicks. If I restart the computer the touchpad will function normally again. Occasionally I can get it to start working again by pulling up task manager and then closing it. Any suggestions on what else I can try?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

In this case, you are advised to perform clean boot and check if there is any software conflict. To know how to do this, the following link can be helpful:https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135 If the issue persists even after performing clean boot, then you are advised to take the computer to nearest Acer service center to check if there is any hardware issue. To do this, the following link can be helpful:http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/service-contact Hope this will help you.

Just ruled out malware in other section of this forum. Laptop's integrated keyboard suffers intermittent lock-ups for no apparent reason (sometimes works, sometimes doesn't, right now, doesn't). Touchpad seems deactivated (tried FN + F7 in case of accidental disable, but that's not the case), every option related to touchpad are grayed out in 'mouse' menu (config panel). Before malware check-up,tried system restore to last week, all problems were still there, so I reverted back. I have to use visual keyboard to type. Have to work with external mouse because touchpad doesn't work. Tried reinstalling touchpad drivers from Acer website, and didn't work. Computer worked perfect a few days ago.

Answer:Acer aspire 5749-6823 keyboard intermittent, touchpad a.w.o.l.

Sounds like you may have some system files corrupt. This can occur after a lot of spyware. Some times just removing it dose not correct what it has already messed up. Your best maybe to back up your personal stuff. Then do a factory reinstall.

Hey guys.

I have never had this problem before so I don't know what to do.

While on my laptop my touchpad will randomly stop moving. I can still zoom in and out by pinching, I can right click and left click, but I cannot move the pointer . As soon as I plug in my mouse, the touchpad works again. I can unplug the mouse and it will still work for a few minutes then the problem will happen again.

I'm running windows 7 64bit,

I also have not installed anything recently.

Answer:Touchpad randomly stops working.

See if reinstalling the touchpad driver from the laptop's manufacturer's website helps.

Hi, On my Travelmate B115 (that I've barely used at all), the touchpad randomly stops working. If I deactivate it and activate it (Fn+F7 twice) it starts working again, but I have to do that once every two minutes, and it's really annoying. Sometimes it also is very slow or imprecise in its movements, and it seems sometimes that it clicks without my wanting it to (it could be that I'm grazing the pad without noticing sometimes, but I'm really writing "in the air" with only my fingers touching the computer's keys now to avoid it, and it still happens).I am extremely frustrated since this laptop is brand new. Can anyone help me?Elisabeth

Answer:Touchpad randomly stops working

Exactly the same problem. Just emailed Acer and told me to reset the laptop. I did it and the same problem. Now, directly they don't answer my email.

The touchpad stops working randomly when the computer is woken back from sleep and it has to be rebooted to get it going agin. An externally connected mouse will work fine during that time. Is this due to a possibly faulty touchpad??

Answer:The touchpad on my V3-331 stops working randomly.

Hi Jithin1,

It is possible to be a defective touchpad. I would suggestion a few things you can try on your own before looking into service options.

Update or reinstall touchpad drivers
Refresh the PC to see if that takes care of any issues.
Reload the PC entirely if possible

If you continue having issues, contact your local Acer support team so that they can help setup services to take care of the touchpad issues you're having.

I bought a brand new laptop from Dell.  The touchpad kept crashing (it won't respond to taps and sometimes stops scrolling, but the right and left click continue to work).  After several months of calling tech support, having the laptop serviced remotely, and sending it in twice for repairs, all without success, Dell sent me a new computer.  After only four days, the same thing is now happening with the new one.  Now Dell says that means the problem is on my end.
I haven't downloaded any new programs, everything is up-to-date, and when I check the touchpad settings, it shows everything as being enabled.  The touchpad stops working randomly, on different websites and in different programs.  I never had this problem on any previous Dell laptops.  I can't think what I might be doing to cause this issue.  Any help would be appreciated.

I have multiple Thinkpad T510's...  Using the latest UltraNav driver (15.0.24.0) Under Windows 7 Enterprise x64...  For some reason, the Touchpad will intermittantly become unresponsive...  After 6-10 seconds, the touchpad will begin responding again...  When the touchpad is unresponsive, no functions appear to work (cursor movement, tapping, scrolling, multi finger gestures, etc)...  During the period where the touchpad is unresponsive, the touchpoint or an external mouse move the mouse pointer without issue, and all the touchpad & touchpoint buttons respond normally...  so I know it's not Windows holding back the mouse cursor...I've personally seen the issue in multiple T510's... Has anyone else experienced this with the T410 or T510?  Is there something quirky in the driver?  Anyone know of a solution to keep the touchpad responsive?  (Overall it doesn't sound like a bad problem, but really it's very irritating to have the mouse cursor or scrolling functions, etc randomly stop for 10 seconds when you're working along....)

I just got this Acer Aspire 4530-6823 a couple of weeks ago. It's running on Vista Home Premium 32bit. I've been using the computer for many hours a day and I have wireless on all the time. I deleted some bloat ware... hope these are not the reasons why the following is happening...

So the problem... sometimes I close to lid to go to sleep, and it doesn't. In fact, it will restart and say that it recovered from an unexpected shut down. What scared me was the blue screen error I got today. In addition, it now takes longer to go from the password screen to the desktop. It happens twice a day now... and this and other things in my life are making me really anxious.

What should I do? I know Vista has problems like these, so I was wondering whether I should just wait and hope Windows 7 is any better. Would it solve these problems? Also, if anyone knows my Acer model... is this computer the problem or is it the Vista? Thanks a ton!

Answer:Sleep Problems with Acer Aspire 4530-6823

If sleep doesn't work it's probably drivers. Try updating your video and sound drivers. If the laptop is relatively new look for an option to create recovery discs first. As for the BSOD's/STOP errors there is a guide I've written in my sig if you want to debug them. If not, .zip them up and upload them.

I have had my aspire e1 touch for a couple months now and a couple weeks in it randomly wouldn't detect the touch ability.  I have to shut the laptop down and back on again for it to work (simple restart won't work)  It's a new computer so I haven't upgraded any os, it's running with the Windows 8.1 it came with and I have chrome as the browser.  It seems to happen when I wake it from sleep, not in the middle of using it.  When the touch is not working, the device manager doesn't even detect that touch is an option (it's hidden, but grey and cannot be enabled) Not the worst problem in the world, but terribly annoying!  Is there an easy box to check/uncheck to fix this?!  Anyone else experience this? Thank you in advance!!

Well was using it Sunday night like usual and I moved it and the top right corner of the screen and right side of actual keyboard part bumped the wall just the slightest wasn't even that hard but the screen kinda flashed and then it just decided to shut down and restart itself and would continuously do that anytime the computer was barely moved. yesterday though tried turning on and it started but screen stayed black and didn't work at all after multiple tries I finally got it on but still restarted itself if barely moved. finally took the battery out and just had plugged in and could move it all around nothing happens works fine. but if you turn it off it takes forever getting the screen to start back up and the keyboard now doesn't work. Once I get it on without battery I can do what I need to but with battery if it's moved just even slightly it restarts and if i turn off and need to get back on later I have to take forever to get the screen back started. If anyone knows what this issue is I would greatly appreciate any feedback. I've done the whole drain excess charge and stuff too and that did nothing.

I have tried all of the solutions suggested in other posts and have not had any luck. I am not even seeing HID options under device manager. The touchscreen just stopped working all of the sudden and this did not coincide with any updates or changes to the computer. I am furious about this as I rely heavily on this touchscreen for some of my school projects. I called Acer tech support and was rerouted to their useless third party support who guaranteed they knew what was wrong and how to fix it, but would only tell me if I gave them $99. What a complete scam. I can't believe Acer doesn't stand behind their products and offer free phone support or online chat. I will certainly never be buying another Acer product, but in the mean time if anyone knows how to fix this problem without charging me $100 I will be forever grateful.

My daughter had an ACER Aspire V5-571 that 6 gigs of ram comprised of one 4gb Hynix and one 2gb Hynix memory both DDR3 1600.  Her computer screen was cracked and she bought a new latptop so I salvaged parts from it. I have an Acer Aspire Acer Aspire v5-561p-6869 in excellent shape running WIndows 10 Home 64 that has 4gb ram of Kingston DDR3 1600.  I attempted to place the Hynix from her Aspire into my Aspire, however my Aspire will not recognize the memory.  Bios still shows 4gigs of ram, windows 4 gigs of ram, however running Aida64, shows 8gb ram installed on the motherboard.  Her Hynix memory stick is good as I tested in a third laptop and it was recognized and performed well. Also, I have already confirmed that both memory slots on my motherboard are working, as I can swap my current stick from DIMM slot to the other.  Bios is fully updated as well. Does anyone have any idea why the V5-561P will not recognize the memory?  Is it possible that ACER has programmed these laptops so that certain models will only recognize memory manufactured from certain companies even though the specs are the same?

Answer:Acer Aspire v5-561p-6869 Memory Question

I'm guessing that the 561 will only run at 1.35V by design.  You're putting memory (from the older model 571) that can only run at 1.5V, inside a computer that is probably only designed to run at 1.35V.  Most newer laptops run at 1.35V....not 1.5V. http://www.kingston.com/us/memory/search?DeviceType=3&Mfr=ACE&Line=Aspire&Model=87505 http://www.kingston.com/us/memory/search?DeviceType=3&Mfr=ACE&Line=Aspire&Model=88232 DDR3 1.5V can only run at 1.5V DDR3L 1.35V can run at 1.35V or 1.5V So I'm assuming that your BIOS will not allow her 1.5V memory....which is probably by design....since your laptop is newer.

I have had my Dell Inspiron 7559 for about a week now, it runs windows 10. Over the past few days the trackpad has started to not work. At first the single tap (left click) didn't work. But the left click button worked fine and the two tap (right click) worked fine too. I restarted it, single tap works again.
This happened a couple more times and I decided to investigate. There was no touchpad on my mouse settings, only a HID-compliant mouse and a PS/2 Compatible Mouse. I don't have any mice. I did a driver update for both of the above and ELAN input device showed up. I did a driver update for it and it worked ok for a couple of hours and it said it is working properly. However if stopped working again and I went back to the settings and whilst windows 10 settings said the trackpad was on, the ELAN tab on the mouse properties said that the Elan smart-pad was not enabled it and restarted. When I went back to the same settings after the restart, it was not enabled again. So I enabled it. Two hours later, the trackpad was back to not registering single taps. Enabling and disabling the ELAN trackpad appears to do nothing.
The next day, single tap stopped working and then all the buttons and taps stopped working but scroll/zoom etc still worked. I restarted and it worked again. Later on it had the issue that the trackpad would only select things on the start bar. Once you opened something you couldn't click at all. Again I restarted and it "fixed"... Read more

My touchpad suddenly has an issue where it stops working for about 5 seconds, and this occurs randomly.  I was having an issue earlier where the multi-tap function on the trackpad was bringing up cortana on its own, and I reinstalled the driver and this issue was resolved, but now the freezing issue exists.  I am using windows 10 and the drivers are up to date. If anybody knows how to fix this issue, or where I could find the solution I would appreciate the help.

These were both brand new computers with the exact same issue.  Is Dell simply incapable of making a decent computer any more?  I used to love Dell; this was my fifth Dell computer, but maybe it's time to look elsewhere.

Question: USB stops randomly

Hi,
For the past month or so, my kb & mouse will stop randomly. I can move them from the usb ports in the back of the machine to the ones in front without rebooting and they will work. But eventually the same thing happens with those ports as well. I have scanned with malwarebytes and window av and both come up clean. I'm running Windows 10. I thought the most recent windows update fixed the problem, but it just takes longer now before it happens. A reboot is the only thing that gets them working again, but they still freeze eventually.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Regards,
Jon

I have an Acer Aspire One D250 with a synaptics touchpad bought on March 20th which hasn't given me any problems till 3 days ago.

Friday, when I turned the computer on, the touchpad wasn't working. I tried Fn+F7 and nothing. The usual synaptics animated icon wasn't beside the clock. I went to the control panel>mouse>device settings and no device was listed there, while all the options were greyed out. I went to system>device manager and no "Mouse and other pointing devices" was listed. I went to Acer.pt (I'm from portugal) and downloaded the driver and installed it. The instalation went without problems and when I restarted the computer, the touchpad was still not working and nothing was listed on the device manager.

I called the Acer support line and the told me to restore the OS. I spent friday doing backups and I reinstalled Windows XP from Acer eRecovery Management. After all that, the touchpad wasn't working still.

Saturday was spent going to the store where I bought the netbook and trying to find a solution. Just as when I was going to give the netbook to warranty, a guy turned the computer on and the touchpad was magically working again.

I went home, all happy and warm and fuzzy inside.

Today, when I was copying my backups to the netbook again, I hit "cancel", and the icon next to the clock disappered and the touchpad stoped working again. Went to check, and nothing was listed on the device manager or on contro... Read more

Hello. My month old E560 has been great until recently, when the touchpad has decided to play up on me.What happens after a while of use, the touchpad will begin not responding to my gestures, finger movements, sliding, etc. It will sporadically work for maybe a fraction of a second after, but 99% of the time when I frantically draw circles with my finger it will not respond. This proves it is NOT the touchpad completely disabling/turning off, etc. There are no issues with the trackpoint or any hardware buttons. Even right clicking with the touchpad does what it's supposed to.  This is on the most up to date version of ALP Lenovo Ultranav drivers for the e560 from the Lenovo website. I have found that uninstalling this driver (and thus using Windows' default touchpad driver) prevents Lenovo-specific multitouch features such as twofinger scrolling, and also slightly changes what the middleclick does, but at least prevents the issue of an unresponsive touchpad which is the most important feature. Usually, a quick restart solves this issue. But after the computers shut down and started up again after a while of being off, the issue will occur again. I am running Windows 10 home 64 bit with, as said, the most recent Lenovo-issued ALPS Ultranav driver. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:E560 Touchpad stops working

The same thing happens to me and my Lenovo is only two days old. I went onto device manager and tried looking for updates but it said the software was up to date.

Now that the video flickering issue has been resolved, I am now frequently encountering a very frustrating problem with my new XPS 13 (9343).   If I stop using the touchpad for a few minutes (not sure how many, sometimes it's 1 or 2, sometimes its 30), then mouse pointer disappears completely and the touchpad does not respond.  I can click, swipe, tap, etc. but there is no pointer.  When it happens I am forced to use the touch screen to shut down the machine and restart it so I can get the touchpad and pointer to work again.  Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Answer:XPS 13 (9343) Touchpad stops working

I have the same problem. I am using Windows 10 Pro. I have tried every touchpad driver version I could find with no luck. I am currently using this driver: Cypress Semiconductor, Inc, dated 6/24/2015, version 2.5.1.72.
I often find it happening when playing a youtube video or something like that, but that's probably just because I don't use the trackpad for a few minutes while watching the video.
When it happens the mouse pointer is either completely gone, or it is "frozen" in some random position on the screen and the trackpad is not moving it. It happens once or twice a day for me, and I then restart the PC to fix - annoying.
I feel 99% certain that it is a driver issue - and that no driver has been created for the Cypress Trackpad in the PC that actually works in Windows 10. If anybody know of a driver that actually works I'd love to get the details.

so i know there are other threads on this topic and i have read them but they do not help me. for some reason my OS is different. I have windows 10 home edition. my Synaptic pointing device is v19.2.4 and i went to mouse setting and set it on no delay but it will not work. everytime i type my mouse stops moving and it is annoying the hell out me. Please help.

Answer:My touchpad stops moving when i type

Hi, Normally, you just need to turn off SmartSense or PalmCheck the Synaptics control panel - however from what I've seen, this no longer seems to work for Windows 10 versions of this driver. You may be able to get around this as follows. First, download the Synaptics driver on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. Synaptics Driver Version 17.0.18.8 Turn off your wireless card ( should be f12 ). Open windows control panel, open Programs and Features, right click the current Synaptics driver and select Uninstall. When complete, restart the notebook. When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder and run the Synaptics installer - when this has completed, restart the notebook again. Open the Synaptics settings panel, disable SmartSense or PalmCheck and then check if the touchpad will now work with a keyboard key held down.  If it does, turn your wireless card back on and use the utility on the following link to prevent Windows 10 from automatically updating the Synaptics driver. https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/3073930 Regards, DP-K

Dear all, since almost 2 years I am pretty happy with my L440.But lately, I often have problems with the touchpad becaue it suddenly stops working,no mouse moving, no touchpad-based clicking. The trackpointer still works and also the hardware buttons for left and right clicking are still working. However, depending on the task i prefer either trackpad or touchpad. I already changed the sensitivity for palm checking but no effect.  Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Answer:L440 Touchpad stops working

Hi Blue,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

We are sorry to hear that touchpad is not working in your L440 laptop.

Please do confirm which operating system is running on your laptop.

I had to restart PC for it to work again. My OS is vista 32bit.  Does anyone know what's wrong and how to fix?

Answer:Touchpad on my T400 sometimes stops responding

I am having similar issues - my Touchpad (and Trackpoint) suddenly becomes unresponsive.  I can still use the keyboard, so my session is not locked, but I cannot use either Touchpad or Trackpoint. I found an article (I'll repost it, if I find it again) that suggested disabling either the Touchpad or Trackpoint in the BIOS setup, which I did, but that did not solve the problem. Currently, the only way to resolve the problem is to logout and logon again.  As soon as I logout, and the logon screen appears, then I can move the mouse cursor again.  This is happening on two separate accounts, so I don't think it is profile-based.  My system is a Thinkpad T400, running Vista 32-Bit.

I recently bought a S10-3t ideapad direct from lenovo. (Moved abroad though so can't get warranty cover on it).Very frustrating - the touchpad regularly stops working. It will work for a few hours then stop working completely for hours/days on end.I've tried updating the touchpad drivers, system restore, lenovo restore (back to factory settings).

Answer:S10-3t touchpad regularly stops working

Next time it quits working try a few taps around the touchpad and see if it starts working.  If it does it might be  a loose connection inside the case.

The touchpad on my X1 Carbon laptop (3443CTO) has started working very sporadically. It seems that it will work after reboot, but then after a while it stops working. I suspect that this is a driver and/or bios issue, because this started happening about the same time I upgraded the bios to the latest and also upgraded to Windows 10. Has anyone else experienced this issue? AFAIK, all of my Lenovo and other drivers are up-to-date, as the Lenovo Companion tools does not list any pending updates. Any ideas?

I've been having an issue with my Yoga (20CD000MMH, i5, 8 Gb RAM, 500Gb HDD+128Gb M.2 SSD) for the past month where the touchpad and trackpoint (sometimes even the keyboard) stop responding but the touchscreen is fine. Sometimes it takes several restarts for the touchpad to start working again and quite often I get a BSOD a minute or two after the touchpad stops responding. The latter seems to happen most often when watching videos in Chrome.

My system is up to date (can't install the BIOS update though for some reason and don't want REACHit or SHAREit), I've installed the latest Ultranav drivers (they often appear under optional updates), then uninstalled them (not sure how successfully, although I did get rid of Win8 gestures for a few days with a generic driver after uninstalling previous drivers from safe mode according to some procedure I've now forgot) and reinstalled older drivers. The problem reappears.

I had the original screen replaced (ghosting) under warranty a little more than a month ago - could someone have screwed something up? I already had the motherboard replaced a year ago as it crashed almost daily and the reappearance of a similar problem is pretty annoying. Fortunately I have two more years of warranty left...

The tap to click function on my touch pad will stop working randomly and start dragging the item around instead. Will then have to fully click down on the touch pad to navigate between tabs etc. The scroll function also stops at random, but after restart it all returns to normal until the next time it stops working. Anyone had this problem and know how to fix it?

The touchpad behaves erratically (mouse pointer goes wild when I put my finger in the touchpad, either in rest or in movement) after a few hours of gaming (if the keyboard lights are off) or after half an hour or so of general use (if the keyboard lights are on). It seems to me that there is some sort of heat-induced short contact going on. Does anybody know how to fix this? I've got a friend to bring me this notebook from the US, but unfortunately this model isn't supported by Lenovo here in Brazil. Now I may need to find a fix for it myself (or resort to workarounds). A lesson learned for my next purchase: be more careful with so-called "worldwide" warranties.

Try updating your Flash Player, Shockwave Player, and Java.

You can also try blocking some of the ads. If you use Firefox you can use Adblock, Flashblock, and NoScript to block just about all of them. Chrome has similar add-ons, but I am not familiar with it. I have no idea what IE has.

I have a Dell laptop. I can be typing merrily away, when the blinking cursor (which is usually immediately after the last character you've typed) disappears, and I find that what I am typing no longer appears on the screen. It isn't after any particular letter and seems totally random eg  sometimes it happens after 20 words, sometimes after 2 characters. I have to watch the screen the whole time, to see if what I'm typing is making it onto the screen. If not, I left click after the last character on the screen and can carry on emailing, writing a letter etc. It's very annoying. I have no idea what causes it. Can you help, please?

Answer:typing stops (randomly)

I assume that your laptop has a trackpad of some description. Is it possible that you are inadvertently brushing this with your wrists or the base of one of your thumbs while you are typing ?

Just as a suggestion, plug in a mouse and disable / turn off your trackpad and see if the problem continues. I only use a laptop from time to time, but if I am going to do anything intensive on one I always switch the trackpad for a mouse. I too have had some strange things happening on a laptop until I worked out that my normal typing style kept me brushing the thing !

Hi people. Having an annoying issue that's started occurring the last couple days.
As the title says my sound is dropping out at random times.
I've noticed it has occurred when my computer stops performing a task with sound.
It has stopped after playing a game, watching a movie and listening to youtube.
Once it stops it will not work again until I restart the computer.
Fixes I have tried so far include:
A- re-installing sound drivers
B- trying to restart the windows audio service but it gets stuck on restarting
C- reinstall my graphics driver to reinstall amd HDMI audio drivers

Recent changes I have made to my computer include some cable management, and the installation of a new HDD.

Once the sound stops, I cannot start up a game; a can play movies in vlc player with no sound but have to kill the process in the task manager; itunes will not play a song. The audio was working with the new HDD.

I have attached two dxdiag files one before the sound drops out and one after.

Thank you all for your help, Steven

I have a Dell inspiron 1525, 2.00GHz duo core CPU, 2.00Gb RAM, Windows vista home premium.Ive had the laptop since october last year, and until a few months ago everything was fine with it.But recently everytime I turn it on, from anywhere between 20minutes to several hours afterwards my Internet explorer will start getting slower and slower until it eventually stops loading pages altogether. While this is happening everything else which uses the internet on the laptop works fine i.e. messenger, spotify and I have full local and internet access. We are pretty sure this is not a problem with the router, we have several laptops using the same Belkin Wireless G-router and none of the others have a problem. The problem rectifies itself after a restart, but having to do around 5 to 10 restarts a day is becoming annoying.Any suggestions?

PLEASE HELP

My problem is that, whilst browsing the internet, suddenly without warning I can no longer view any pages, I just get the "cant connect to server" timeout style errors. This can be after either 5 minutes, or 50 minutes of normal use. BUT, as soonas it starts, I cannot view ANY webpages, or connect to my personal webpages using FTP. I have checked all my network hardware (see below) and its fine.... and to prove it, even while i am experiencing the problem i can still ping an ip address fine... for example I can ping the goodle ip address, and EVEN ping using "ping www.google.com" from dos on my PC. SO i know its something XP-ish - not my network.

I am using XP Home ed, with SP1 and all the latest updates from Miscrosoft. I am using the lastest IE6 also.
I connect using an ethernet cable to a hub, then router onto ADSL. I have another PC on my hub which is FINE and never loses connection....

I have seen various people on help forums with this problem, but no one has posted a FIX... just suggested various debugging things which I am kind of uneasy to do (because messing about this settings can often create more problems than solving the initial one!).

PLEASE only post a reply to this if you KNOW the specific fix.

Thanks for taking the time to read this post.

Hey! I have a problem with the following symptoms on a T61 9659 CTO model. - trackpoint randomly stops working during use or after wake up- this issue appears under Windows 7 64 bit and also Ubuntu Linux- there is nothing in the system log- sometimes, after waking up, neither of trackpoint and touchpad are usable and ultranav options are greyed out for both.- A full power cycle is alwas helps (poweroff, cold start) but a reboot or sleep/wake cycle is also helps sometimes)- as far as I notived, this behaviour can happen even if I leave the machine on the desktop alone (no physical impact on the chassis)- during these, keyboard remains operational (despite that they share the flex cable with the trackpoint) So what I think is less likely:- driver issue (2 different OSs, same behaviour)- cable issue (working keyboard, also happens when notebook us untouched) So, what? I saw a lot of topics about this, because this issue showed up on different models (also non-lenovo products are affected) and I really annoyed and want to find out the root cause. Buying a replacement keyboard, new notebook, anything else is not an option. I hope, there are a guy out there with a circuit drawing or something like this, who can help. Yes, I tried to reinstall ultranav driver, etc, blah blah blah. This is an issue, not just a driver bug. Thanks for any help!

Answer:T61 trackpoint stops randomly

Findings so far:- After a BIOS reset and a power management drive update, this issue seems to be solved- Notebook ran for almost 8 hours w/o any problem- After setting power plan to optimize performance and a sleep/wake up cycle, problem appeared again, but gone after switching to other power scheme

Ok guys, I'm having a very strange issue, never really seen it before in the 4 years I've worked with computers.I will be listening to YouTube and playing a game (minecraft) while having a Skype conversation. All is working fine, no cpu spikes, no high memory, then everything just stops. All audio is cut, all screens display what they had and nothing more (no update/movement), the mouse doesn't move and keyboard does not respond either.According to the hard drive activity light, there is no activity either.Pressing the reset button on the case has no effect until pressed about four/five times in which then the computer will reset.System log has no relevant data on the complete stop, crash happened around 5:15PM and no log between 4:57:56PM - 5:26:36PM except for Logons and Logoffs. Will be picking up canned air and removing all dust from the machine to rule out over heating. This is not really a constant issue, just keeps happening randomly, no really pattern. First thing to do if i were you is backup backup backup everything on the hard drive thats important to you onto some other external medium.

My experience is that when something like this happens and theres no record in the windows log file it means that an error message could not be written to the log file on the hard drive.

This could be because the hard drive no longer exists on the system, it stopped working, it switched off, or information in the memory dissapeared.

An intermittent problem is always the worst to diagnose.

What make, model, size and age is your hard drive?

It is my experience that larger hard drives fail far more quickly than smaller ones. Laptop hard drives have a much shorter life than those fitted inside a desktop / tower.

Identify the make and model, visit the manufacturers website and download there diagnostcs tool, follow instructions on how to use it and use it to run tests on your hard drive.

If your hard drive fails tests this doesn't nessesarily mean that its faulty, it may mean that the tool lost communication with the drive.

Make sure that power is getting to the drive at all times and the communication cable is in good condition and fits snuggly

You could also run Scandisk or Checkdisk, same thing.

If you have a perminent problem the cause can be found easily, if you have an irregular problem it can be a nightmare.

Just because tests pass doesn't mean the item being tested is OK, it just means it passed those tes... Read more

Hi, my PC had this problem for quite a long time now. Sometimes the HDD just stops spinning randomly and starts again after a while, maybe 5 sec or even up to 30 sec of freezing time. During this time every thing on the PC freezes, and the HDD light is not shining.
I have thought about several problems, but I can't decide which one is the real one.

1. PSU supply insufficient
This is quite impossible since I've got a 550W PSU with 80 Plus Bronze, which means my PC's max PSU supply is around 600W. But my PC only got a GTX 460 OC edition and no other PSU requiring hardwares.
CPU is i5-2500, 8GB RAM with two HDD. The max usage should be the most 400W.

2. Main/Secondary HDD
I accidentally made my old 160GB HDD as the main HDD while the new WD Caviar Black 1TB as the secondary HDD. I highly suspect that it's the 1TB HDD that is not spinning, since most of my stuff are stored on that HDD, but not the 160GB one. Im wondering if setting a disk as a secondary storage will affect its priority and performance. I also got the Intel Rapid Storage thingy on my PC, but it can only detect the 160GB HDD, and not the Caviar Black.

3. Sandy Bridge MB Flaw
Well I bought my PC in Jan 2011, that time Intel just released the Sandy Bridge. The P67 and H67 motherboards at that time had flaws, which had problem in the SATA ports on the MB. The problem will cause slow degration in the hardware connected to the SATA ports overtime. But the flaws only occured in the 3GBps port... Read more

Answer:HDD stops spinning randomly

You didn't list "faulty hard drive" as a possibility (even new hard drives have been known to be faulty).
Whether you configure a drive as your main (system) drive or just for storage wouldn't cause the problem you describe or affect it's performance generally. I would test the Caviar Black drive with WD's Data Lifeguard for Windows diagnostic software. Get it here: http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=613&sid=3&lang=en

I nned some help to resolve the following trouble:

Randomly on Windows 7 64 bits users can't print anymore whatever the printer choosen.

Printers are shared on a network server .

The only way close and log session again.

regards

Answer:Print job stops randomly

Do you have admin access to the printer server in your business environment? Can you provide a JCGriff Report of your printer server without violating your business' security policy? It contains a lot of information concerning your system (sys/app event logs, specs, various error reports, drivers, etc.), and while it makes no effort to provide private information like passwords, there is enough information to assist someone for intrusion.

Honestly, for a business, unless it's your business or you have authority to make security decisions, it would not be wise nor expedient to ask assistance on an open forum. You should contact your internal IT department or whoever typically services your network and servers.

Hi,

I am having this problem for over a month now, the touch pad stops working suddenly and it starts to work after a restart and sometimes after a couple of restarts.

The frequency of this issue is at least twice an hour. I am really tired of restarting all the time.
I have tried system restore but that has not helped and the function keys are not working either.

Details:
Model:SATELLITE C660-1LD
OS: Windows 7 - 64 bit
Warranty: Expired 03/2013

Answer:Re: Satellite C660-1LD - Touchpad stops working

> I have tried system restore but that has not helped

What do you mean exactly by system restore?

Did you use the Toshiba Recovery DVD or Toshiba HDD Recovery procedure to set the notebook back to factory settings?
In case you did not try that, I recommend doing this!

Fact is that this recovery procedure should fix the system/software issues and in my opinion it looks more like a software as a hardware problem.

The Touchpad stops working and is grayed in options. Trackpoint is fine. Driver reinstall helps, but not for long - the issue appears again very soon, especially after plugging in the power. No problem in Ubuntu/Linux. Any idea? Driver version is the latest one for Win7 64bit: 18.0.7.109. BIOS: GIET90WW (2.40).

HI All I am in need of help please i have a X1 Carbon that was Recently purchased for a user at our office. But as you can tell from the subject of this topic the touchpad and trackpad stops working working after a few minutes of working on the machine.  I used Lenovo System Update to update all the drivers to the latest version and this was not successfull, I then tried a reinstall  of windows and the manually downloaded the driver from lenovo website and installed it but still no luck. I have checked and they are not disabled in the Bios and they are not and the Bios is on the latest version I have also tried to let it run on the windows driver that downloads from windows but also it stops working. from what it looks like the trackpoint and touchpad disable cause when i go into the mouse properties the option to enable them both is greyed out i then log on as the local admin to see if it is a permission thing but it is also greyed out. This happens regardless if the machine is on battery or plugged inThis user travels  alot and needs them both to be working.  I came across the below forum but i dont see much of a response from lenovo.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-touchpad-and-trackpad-stops-working...

I noticed that the Synaptic Touchpad driver (I updated to the latest version) would stop functioning whenever I do a hard drive-intensive task. For example, When I run a virus scanner, when I convert movies, when I record anything, the Synaptics driver stops working. I can still use the touchpad, but all of the original driver features are gone and the icon from the taskbar dissappears as well. Stranger still, whenever something like this happens, I try to go into mouse properties in the control panel and it ALWAYS becomes completely unresponsive and freezes up. I cannot do anything with the touchpad control panel either. When I stop whatever I am doing to the hard drive, everything goes back to normal and the Synaptics touchpad driver re-enables and appears in my taskbar again. Help?Thanks!-Clark

Answer:U410 touchpad Driver stops working

Most likely you're experiencing this issue when starting Microsoft Office (I did too)Here's how to fix it 1.Download the 16.3.9.0 driver from herehttp://www.station-drivers.com/page/Synaptics.htm2.uninstall your current synaptics driver and reboot when it asks you to (your touchpad will still work, just without gestures and it will move slower than before)3.Install the new driver and restart if it asks you to4.Go to the mouse properties and the synaptics tab and adjust the touchpad to your liking(here will be 2 devices listed, clicking the settings of one of them brings up manufacturer information, the other will bring up configuration)5.No more nonworking driver just so you know, resuming from sleep will cause the synaptics driver icon to appear in your taskbar even if you have disabled it from appearing there, but it will go away automaticallyand also, the 4-finger flick option in the configuration settings will not work, but everything else shouldmessage me if you need assistance

Hi Guys,

My new Lenovo W510 is running Windows 7 (x64) and some issues with my Touchpad.  The problem is my Touchpad stops working after a time. TrackPoint is still working fine, but not the touchpad. If I check the settings via "Fn + F8" I can see that "Enable Touchpad and Track Point" is activated. I switched back and forth but it doesn't seem to work. Only a reboot helps..

Thanks for you help!

Received my new X1 Carbon 2014 this week. After only two minutes of use, the trackpad and toucphpad stopped working. I hade to use an external mouse, and even after all driver updates it still didn`t work. If I restart the machine, sometimes the track-touchpad will work, but suddenly it freezes up again (after only minutes of use), and I will have to restart to fix the problem. Have used it for 5 hrs now, and how probably restarted about 30-40 times.  Anyone know what is causing this problem and/or how I can fix it?     //alex

I've got a T530 with a touchpad that will intermittently stop responding until I press down firmly on it (or will start responding after several seconds or minutes on its own if I do nothing). The Trackpoint works consistently, and I've had no issues with it. Since the drivers are updated, the Trackpoint works, and the touchpad begins responding again after I press firmly, this is almost definitely a hardware issue. From what I've gathered, the T530 trackpad is built into the palm rest and the entire palm rest would need to be replaced if I wanted to swap the trackpad out. If this is a known issue, has anyone found any other resolutions? Could something be loose or need tightening, or does this sort of issue generally require a full replacement? I've done some digging on the forums but haven't found much about this issue.

Everything is still working and running on the screen though, and the screen is very well active. I tried to restart the laptop by pressing power button for a long long time, but even the power button doesnt work. Also, laptop starts heating up from the moment keyboard stopped working, it was all fine before, but as soon as keyboard stops responding, laptop suddenly starts heating up. What can be causing this? Please help me.

I currently have a HP pavilion tx2520ae laptop and now and again whilst im am working on it i suddenly get the message 'synaptics touchpad has stopped working with two options saying : close and check for a problem online and close', after this message appears the touchpad still works, however the scroll bar for the laptop does not, this is an inconvenience as i do alot of my school portfolios on my laptop, some of which are nearly 100 pages long and i am constantly editing it, so i need the scroll bar to save me time and effort.

When i restart the laptop however this problem is corrected, but after a while it appears again and constantly restarting the laptop every 10 minutes is just too much effort to waste on fixing a simple scroll bar.

When the message appeared, I had tried to go onto the mouse options on the control pannel and i got an error message saying 'unable to connect to the synaptics pointing device driver. if you have installed another PS/2 pointing driver please unistall the synaptics driver by clicking on the yes button. you then need to reinstall your pointing divce driver for your external device again.
Do you want to unistall the synaptics driver now?'

I have not installed any PS/2 pointing drivers but I decided to try and reinstall it again just to be sure but when I reinstalled it i had to restart my computer and when i came back on it was working fine... for a while. The message appeared again and reinstalling it was just a comp... Read more

I have an X201 and noticed tha tthe toucpad stops working at seemingly random intervals.  After tracking down the culprit to the Synaptic Touchpad Enhancements process, I did a search and found other people having the issue in the Thinkpad W series forum.  Instead of reposting it here, you can find my reply with an easy workaround to get it working again over in this thread. http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/W150-Touchpad-stops-working-after-a-certain-tim... Somebody thinks the problem only happens with Firefox, which I happen to use as well, so the problem could be between Firefox and the Synaptics process. Lenovo:  Please fix this.  Thank you.

Answer:Touchpad stops working on X201 (and other models)

I'm having the same exact issue!!!  My trackpad works great after a reboot, but always eventually goes to crap and stops responding (or responds haywire) to my inputs...  I called Lenovo yesterday, and their "senior" tech guys had never even heard of the issue!?!  They told me I needed to send the unit in for repair...  Argh... Hopefully Lenovo will realize this is a "real" issue and address it SOONER than later!!! Thanks for posting your work-around...  Yeah, it kills the multitouch, but at least the trackpad starts responding again... Let's cross our fingers that this gets RESOLVED...  What a pain in the rear problem for such an expensive PC!!!

Hello,

since I bought my Satellite L550 I have problems with the touchpad.
From time to time it stops the scolling funktionality. I tried different things. I deinstalled the drivers reinstalled them, tried older drivers and so on.

Then I decided to wait until I get my Windows 7. Two days ago I received my package and after the successful upgrade to Windows 7 the problem occured again. Suddenly the scolling-functionality didn't work.
Just a reboot of the system solves the problem.
Then the system works some time, and the problem occures again.

The Touchpad is a Alps Pointing device. T
he current installed driververison is 7.102.302.104.

Hopefully anybody can help me to solve this problem finally.

Thanks a lot
DeadParrot

P.S. sorry for my bad english. I'm from Germany.

Answer:Satellite L550 - Touchpad stops scrolling sometimes

Hello

Have you also tried to reinstall the Touchpad driver? You can find the newest version on the Toshiba website.
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Donwload Drivers

You can find two versions ? One from Alps Electric and the other one from Synaptics. You have to install both drivers!!!

I?m not sure if this will solve your problem but it?s worth a try. ;)

Hi, Since i've upgraded my laptop (T440s) to win10 (fromwin8.2) the trackpad and the touchpad have been disabled. I've tried to downgrade my touchpad driver and it works approximately (just the click and the trackpad and i can't access to the configuration panel: ultranav). I've already tried to find the last driver on Lenovo website but it didn?t fix it. Is there a driver that works propely with win10 ?  If not, is there another way to fix touch/trackpad? If not how can I force my computer to stay on the previous driver after reboot (win10 automatically update my drivers at each reboot)? Many thankstd

Hi, I bought a Thinkpad Yoga 260 two weeks ago and it has this annoying problem that touchpad stops responding time to time. It can happen during working with laptop for few seconds or just completely goes off that I have to restart the machine. Also sometimes when it wakes up the touchpad does not respond. Please advise if I have to send it back or there is a fix for it. I have all drivers updated and lenovo companion does not find any issue regarding driver date or hardware defect.  I am really disappointed for this price tag receving such a poor quality device.  Parham

Hi,

In the beginning of this week I bought Toshiba satellite Z30-A-1D0.

My touchpad seemed fine but once in a while the cursor stops working for about 1 minute. I can use the left and right button of the touchpad but I just can't move the cursor.

First I thought that I accidentally had locked the touchpad so I pressed Fn+F9 and the light turned on meaning that the touchpad was locked, then I pressed it again and the cursor was still not moving, it only starts almost a minute after... I've tried to be at alert to what I'm doing in the touchpad but it happens when i'm just moving the cursor.

This happens about 4 times a day and the fisrt time it happened was on the day I bought. And I never used a USB mouse in this computer.

Thanks for your atention to my problem and hope you can help me.

Answer:Touchpad stops working for a moment on my Satellite Z30-A-1D0

It is not easy to say why this happen.
If possible try to use external mouse. It will be interesting to know if there is some general problem with mouse or just with internal touchpad.

The trackpad and touchpad of my Yoga stops working: the cursor freezes and after a while disappears from screen. Once the cursor is gone it does not appear again, even after a clean reboot. I have tried to enable it via the Control Panel Mouse settings or Input section of ?Lenovo Settings? application but had no success.
The problem has happened several times so far, always after the laptop sleeps due to inactivity. The only way I have found so far to bring the trackpad and touchpad back is by going to the BIOS settings and restoring the default configurations (I have never changed the BIOS settings on this PC, so I can?t figure out why this solves momentarily the problem).

Any ideas on why this problem is happening, and how to solve it without messing with the BIOS settings?

This is becoming really annoying, it has happened three times since yesterday (10/23/15).

My BIOS version when this first happened was 1.26 (GQET46WW), my current BIOS version is 1.27 (GQET47WW). My laptop runs Windows 10 Pro (automatically updated from the Windows 8.1 version delivered with the laptop).

Hi there, I have kind of an odd problem with my T440s since I installed Windows 10:The touchpad works fine, including clicking by touching it, but as soon as I click by pressing the touch pad hard, it completely stops working. I can't even move the mouse anymore, neither via the touchpad nor the trackpoint. As soon as I restart the laptop, everything works fine again - until I click the pad again. Anyone else encountered this? Any ideas what I could do? Best,Daniel

OS: Windows 10 Build 1511BIOS: 1.15Synaptics Driver: 19.0.7.33I restart the sytem. At this point, the touchpad is working without issue. I then close the lid on the laptop to initiate S3(sleep). I notice on of the LEDs on the right side starts blinking. I open the lid and press the power button to resume from S3(sleep). 2 out of 4 times two-finger scrolling stops working at this point. Is there a new driver that fixes this issue? Is there a way I can submit a ticket directly to Acer without going through chat or phone #?Reason I am avoiding customer support: Chat representative wanted me to disable driver verificication with full assurance that this will fix my issue. Disabling driver verification is only useful when the device is not working at all. I tried it and it failed to fix the issue. The other reason I am avoiding customer support is that the end result is very likely an RMA, which will not fix the issue.

My M40 laptop has just started having a problem with it's Touchpad, after hibernation the the Touchpad does not work. plugging an external mouse works, I've tried disabling and re enabling through the control panel but it does not help. Powering off and then back on does fis the Thinkpad, has anyone seen this before?

Answer:Touchpad stops working after hibernation on Satellite M40

You said this problem started now. So it seems that this issue was not present in the past. Am I right?
So if I?m right then it looks more like an software problem as a hardware issue.

Usually the first step should be a new Touchpad driver installation. Then you could try to update the Windows XP OS to the latest state. You should use the Microsoft update page to get all patches.

Then download and install the cleaning tool called ?CCleaner?. Its for free and it?s very helpful to clean the OS and the registry.

If this does not help, try to reinstall the OS from the recovery CD and test if this issue persists after new OS installation.

I own 2x Equium L40 laptops.
Both have recently started experiencing the same issue with their touchpads.

For some reason, whenever the laptops are horizontal, the touchpads don't work.
However, once the laptop is tilted, the touchpad works fine.
I can then return the laptop to horizontal, where it works, until the next time it decides to stop working!

I would have thought this was an insolated issue, but for the fact that it is happening on BOTH my laptops!
The laptops were both bought in Aug 07, and are therefore, unfortunately, both out of warranty.

Anybody experienced the same, or have any advice to offer?

Answer:Touchpad stops working when Equium L40 has been moved

Hello Nik

Your story sounds really unbelievable. I have never heard about something like this. Tilting notebook is for me not so good idea. What do you think about it? :)

Sorry but I don't know if somebody here can offer some explanation. The best thing you can do is to show it to the service. Maybe is there some contact problem. The strangest thing is that you have noticed the same issue on both notebooks.

Have you noticed this from the first second when the notebook is on or later after some time?
