S5-371 dual display issue with type-c adapter

Question: S5-371 dual display issue with type-c adapter

I have fully upgraded windows 10 and all the latest drivers from Acer support pages installed to my Aspire S5-371.When I'm trying to connect a display into type-c USB-port using a type-c/HDMI adapter, windows shows an error message "Display connection is limited" and by clicking it, it opens following web site: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt628692(v=vs.85).aspx#_5 I tried 2 different type-c/HDMI adapters with same results. Does my new laptop support dual display at all?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: S5-371 dual display issue with type-c adapter

The end of the M$ note says "The hardware and software on the system, the device or adapter, or cable does not support the DisplayPort /DockPort or MHL alternate modes." Now since a regular USB port works (2.0 even) for DisplayPort that leaves MHL. Maybe you need one of these.

After running Windows updates, the Intel HD Graphics adapter has an error which takes out the use of multiple screens either through the HDMI out or USB 2.0. I have tried disabling and re-enabling the adapter, uninstalling and re-installing the driver. Searched on Intel and Lenovo sites for a driver that will work with no luck. The only thing I have found to work so far is restoring to before the updates were ran - which only last so long until the updates run again. Anyone have any ideas?

I've put a dual head Power Color ATI AGP card in my computer, but my Windows 2000 is not able to detect this. In Device Manager the card shows up as a single card. I have used dual head adapters on ME and XP, and never had problems, it is always detected in the boot up. Anybody having ideas what to do??

Answer:Win2000 does not detect dual display adapter

The CD that should have come with the card will have the correct drivers on it for all operating systems. If you don't have the CD then from looking on the Internet, the ATI PowerColor would appear to be a Radeon card and the Catalyst drivers for these are available from click here

I'm seeing something strange with the display. When I move it, the screen goes to a negative of what should be there. Has anyone seen this? I ran the display tests, which pass, of course. It seems to be a hardware issue. This machine is brand new.

Looks like you are having same problem as my laptop.I have a t61 type 7658.Screen goes blank/black sometimes, but comes back if you shake it lil bit.Display goes to 'Negative' sometimes and comes back to original after a while. Reading on other threads and forums, I think it has to do something with display connections/wire/loose hinges etc.Although even I am not sure. If you can resolve it, please let me know.thanks Akash

Had a similar kind of issue with the 390 E I an online with right now running AntiX Linux. On mine you had to slap both sides of LCD Screen to clear up screen. I took apart LCD screen (not all the way mind you. Just so I could move it out a little from Housing) And wiggled the ribbon cable that plugs in back of screen. Found that the sticky tape wasn't seating the cable in firmly to screen plug socket for cable. Cut me up some strips of clear duct tape. Applied pressure to ribbon cable to make sure it was seated firmly. Taped it in place with duct tape. Reassembled Screen on Laptop. Haven't had a problem since.

I recently installed Windows 95 on a dell Optiplex from 1994 and all was well until I realized that I couldn't change my resolution or colors from 16 bit. I got an error message that read "display adapter not configured properly". I have tried many things and can't get it to work. Please note that I am using the vga port on the motherboard and not a video card. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I have just got the M83 but I am unable to get the dual display working. I have one monitor plugged into the onboard slot and the other ino the Nvidia slot. I have tried changing the bios to the onboard card with multi monitors enabled but it still wont work. I have also tried to update the drivers for both cards but I am told that they are up to date. Both monitors work when the bios is set to the relevant card. Any suggestions?

I have the same issue. I've tried every combination of VGA/Display Port, updated drivers and BIOS. I've tried leaving the display set to auto in the BIOS as well as manually setting it to IDG with dual-monitor support enabled. I've verified that both monitors are functioning properly. I see that the last post on this was 7 months ago and received no response. Do Lenovo techs actually participate in these forums?

Now with the upgrade, i try to setup dual display and i get BSOD and my system restarts. the issue is with the resolution settings as my main allows 1440x900, tho my secondary (a 720p tv) only allows 1360x768 but in the resolution settings it doesnt allow me to change the settings of the secondary display and even if both displays are set to 1360x768 it still causes a hang up and restart (my main looks like crap in this settings so i wouldnt want it anyway)... Ive updated my catalyst drivers, and have the same issues through catalyst control center, either way, thru desktop manager and catalyst it just keeps dinkin me around lol

I have a question in regards to my dual monitor system. No one seems to be able to get the fix for this. I can tell you that it worked fine forever and then one day it just does not work properly. Using my computer with Extened Display Windows 7 works fine. Computer Goes to Sleep hit the space bar or move the mouse and it wakes up with the same view which is correct. Main Monitor on the Left and Extened Display on the Right. So No Probelm. I switch over to another computer with my IOGEAR KVM Switch which is Dual View work on another computer Dual View. No Problems. Here is where the Issue comes in. When I switch back to the other computer it comes up but the main monitor on the left is now Blank like its powered off and my desktop is now on the monitor on the right. I goto the display options under resolution and hit the detect button. It now moves my desktop from the right monitor to thte left primary monitor and all is well. So for some time this just becomes annoying that I have to do this everytime I want to switch back over. It does not do it on any other computer and I have tried everything. Remember it used to work.
Here is what I have done so far to rule out the hardware. Bios is set up correctly. Replaced Video Card. Latest Driver has been installed etc. I returned my KVM Switch 3 times to be sure it was not that and it is not. Why do I have to keep hitting the Detect button in order to get it back to where it needs to be on this one computer. Please Help. My name i... Read more

Hi, I'm using a t61 (7661wbl) on vista business 32. The problem I am having is outputting to an ext monitor through the vga port. It was working fine then I did some updates through the Lenovo updater and installed the most recent optional updates and since then it is recognising that there is a monitor hooked up but just not displaying on my TV. It's not the TV as I have a desktop that displays fine on it using the same cable I have always used. For some reason sys restore is letting me restore before the updates dispite showing the restore point made before the updates. I rang the Lenovo line and their advice was to re install the O/S!! Dont want to be doing that atm. Despite having some knowledge I am struggling. I tried rolling back the driver for the display to no avail too.Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I previously had dual monitors and one of them burned out. I am trying to replace that monitor with one we had sitting around in the office not being used. I connected it and triple checked that everything is plugged in right, but the computer is not detecting it. I have gone through all the display devices to update drivers but, again, the monitor is not being detected. I have also tried to follow the steps here but in the setting tab I dont have the drop down menu to select multiple monitors. It's as if the monitor is not plugged in to the computer at all. The monitor has power and currently displays "Dell 2: Digital Input Self Test Feature Check; Red Green Blue White"

Do I have to install monitor software or something?

Thanks for the help!

I currently have 2 monitors (on an Asus and the other an Acer) they are both 22in monitors and have 1920x1080 display. I have been attempting to use a dual monitor sized background image but my Acer monitor isnt displaying the image as full screen like it should. The image I am using for my background is 3840x1080 so I would think it would be full screen on both monitors. I tried manually adjust the display of the monitor vertically via the monitor's internal menu but the option to move it is not selectable and acer tech-support was unable to pin-point the problem. I have attached a picture so you can see exactly what I see. (Its the left side monitor that is the issue) (Note** The black bars that are in the picture [on the bottom on the right side and on the top on left] I dont actually see on my monitors. Hi.

I recently migrated from Vista Ultimate and am having a dual display problem. I have a 19" sharp display monitor on the left and i want that as my primary. also have an AOC 24" on the right and want that as secondary. I can get the left to be the primary no problem, but my mouse moves oddly. i have to move my mouse off to the left of the left monitor to access the right monitor. I have tried swapping video ports on the ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO AGP card with no difference. I have tried powering up with only the left monitor attached, afterward attach the right monitor. Nothing works so far.

Can you help?
Thanks in Advance

Hi Y'all,

I posted a thread in the Hardware forum earlier and realised later that it is really a Windows problem so here goes.

I (quite stupidly) disabled the display adapter on my Win XP SP2 machine because the display adapter did not appear on my device manager list.

Since then when I boot up I get the Mobo splash, I can access bios, I get the Windows splash and then I get a blank black screen.

I know that everything else is running ok cos the sound still works and when I hit the keyboard with my forehead I get the error sound.

Safe mode is not working for some reason.

Can someone please help me to enable my display adapter again without being able to see what I am doing on screen? I 've been trying to sort this out for about 10 hours!

Thanks

dedlam

Answer:Display Adapter (realised it is not a hardware issue & I am going NUTS)

Safe Mode boot is the way to get to the correction... you have to figger out why that is not working.
Let us know how it worked out. I can see it would be difficult to fix if you cannot see the screen.
You might try booting to a Windows Xp disc in R or Repair mode... or put a different hard drive in, then install Windows to it so you can access your BIOS and utilities.

Hi all,

Upon upgrading to w10 I encountered the black screen issue. When plugging in another screen to the HDMI adapter on my laptop the display appears working perfectly. The laptop screen only shows anything during boot, as soon as the system starts it sits with a black screen.

If i disable the onboard gfx and reboot the screen will display on the laptop, however it is using "microsoft basic display" and not the onboard gt 555m

I have up to date drivers from g force, I have up to date drivers from intel. I am at a loss as to how to solve this.

When another monitor is connected it works absolutely perfectly. The issue is it just wont pick up the laptop screen at all.

Edit - The issue seems to be the GT 555 graphics card. The onboard is the one that's actually detected and working however this is only as an external monitor not with the laptop display. GT 555 is updated via the Nvidia app and says it's W10 ready, yet it's not functioning in any capacity it seems.

Hi guys,

I'm running Windows 8 pro with 2 screens.

The desktop wallpaper disappears quite often. Sometimes if I "refresh" on a certain screen, the desktop will come back temporarily.

Any idea on how to fix this?

Answer:Dual Display Wallpaper Disappearing issue

You did not provide any information in your "My System Specs" so we don't know what kind of PC/Laptop you have. However, I am giving you some guess work here:
Update your video driver to the latestResize the wall paper to match exactly the same as your monitor resolutionIf the file size of the Wallpaper you use is huge then you might need to optimize it down to reasonable size so it will not take too much time to load/refresh. Normally the size of the wallpaper is 300-400K but I've seen cases where people use an image with 2-3 Meg in size.
Hope this helps !!!

Yesterday I decided to try to update my computer to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1. Waited a year so that known issues could be worked out, which was good because I had blue screens due to driver errors that were quickly fixed. But now I've run into a serious problem with my Radeon R7 graphics.

CPU: AMD Fx-7500 Radeon r7, 10 compute cores 4c+6G
GPU: Radeon R7 Integrated graphics (no additional info is listed, it's probably a 240 or something)
RAM: 16GB

And there were no known issues with the display or any other part of the computer before the update.
The issue:
The Radeon R7 display adapter simply does not work.

When I tried to open Radeon settings, I got an error message saying that there was no driver installed or the driver wasn't working properly, and the settings app will not open. In Device Manager, there's a warning icon next to the Radeon R7 display adapter, and when I go into details it says that the device was stopped because of a problem (Code 43.) This has occurred with both my original driver and the newest driver available; I tried running Crimson 16.3.2 to update it and it did not yield any improved results.

When I turn on or restart the computer with the Radeon driver installed, the screen is blank on start-up. Putting the laptop into hibernation and waking it up will bring the display back so I can log in, though it is using the Microsoft basic display adapter for display rather than the Radeon... I've seen several posts related to this in some way, but either no answer or somewhat different. In any case: The issue I have is that I recently purchased multiple ThinkCentre M700 Tiny's and all of them have the same issue. I can plug in either monitor into either individual display port and have it work, but if I try to plug in both, the second is not recognized and leaves the monitor blank. I'm having problems with my wallpapers intended to span the length of both monitors....

My main display is on the right instead of the left and when i use a wallpaper that spans both screens it starts on the main display on the right and spans to the left screen instead of starting on the left screen and spanning to the right. Is there anyway to fix this other than moving the 2 monitors physically or changing my main display to the left monitor?

It works fine if i make the left monitor my main display but i use the right monitor as my main because it has internal speakers and if it doesn't get any signal it goes to sleep muting the sound.

So, I upgraded the firmware because I thought it would help with the performance issues I was having.
It did, but now projects at strange aspect ratios, and it doesn't fill the 1080p tv, (app allows scaling, but not independently v/h)
I have the same issue from multiple windows 10 laptops
It displays correctly when connected to android phones.
Any idea what the issue is, or how I can solve it?

Hello everyone, I have a Thinkpad W510 laptop connected to two monitors using a 4338 dock with DVI connections from the dock to the monitors. I have this same configuration at my home office and work office locations. At both locations, there is no output from the second display, even though the second monitor is being detected by the OS (Win7 Enterprise SP1, 64-bit). Under Device Manager, I have uninstalled both monitors and the NVIDIA Quadro FX 880M display card and reinstalled them which did not resolve the issue. This configuration was working without issue for over a year. This is a laptop provided by my company so I not sure if one of their software updates caused this issue. Any assistance the community can provide in troubleshooting this issue would be appreciated. Thanks!

Answer:Display issue with dual monitors via DVI on ThinkPad W510 with 4338 dock

I recently added two new HP Pavilion 27xi monitors to my ThinkPad T430 with my Thinkpad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 with USAB 3.0 90W docking station. Both monitors are connected with DVI cables. The T430 is running Windows 7 64-bit as sold and has all the latest windows and Lenovo updates including the latest BIOS version 2.64.1.13 on 03/22/2014. The problem I have been having for over 3 weeks is that one of the two displays won?t stay asleep. I am using the ThinkVantage Technologies Power Manager (Latest 6.64.4 version) to set the Idle Timer for the ?Turn off display? setting to 20 minutes. When the idle timer is reached, both monitors successfully go to sleep. The primary monitor however, will wake itself up after 10 seconds and flash its build-it pop-up message "Monitor Going to Sleep". It will sleep for 5 to 10 seconds and repeat. It never stays asleep unless the T430 is fully powered OFF. This not an issue where the T430 fails to enter ?Sleep? mode (as this work fine). It is the Power Manager setting for turn off the DISPLAYS when the idle timer is reached. I have opened support tickets with both HP and Microsoft and done some extensive troubleshooting. Below are links to the two threads in case you want to see more details to date? HP: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Audio-Video-Monitors/Pavilion-27xi-Dual-Monitor-Sleep-Issue/td-...Microsoft: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind... I had this problem. Disabling the monitor "dim" timeout in the Lenovo power management program fixed the behaviour. Good luck getting decent support from either Microsoft, HP or Lenovo. It's a finger-pointing three-way.

The title pretty much sums it up, but I'll here's the more in depth story:I downloaded a PC tune-up program from AVG (I had used their anti-virus before w/o issue) and when I ran it, my computer took forever to reapair disk (>4hrs) and it gave me other problems with files being screwed and what-not. I tried to install a back-up off of a external hard drive with no luck. I ended up taking my computer to be repaired by a repair shop and they ended up having to re-install windows 8. I got my computer back and started to install drivers from the Lenovo site for my Y410p. However at the moment I cannot change the brightness level of the screen on the right hand side of the screen in the charms menu the birghtness option is darker than the other options and says 'unavalible'. I believe this is caused by an issue with the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter as it has a yellow warning sign in the device manager. The other problem I am having is that the graphics card seems to be 'missing', as in any information about it is completely gone from the computer. I looked under Hardware and Sound in the control panel (I think I remember seeing the NVidia control panel there prior to re-install) and it was not present. I also tried searching 'nvidia' via the charm option and nothing came up. Working with computers is definitely not one of my strengths and any help is greatly appreciated.

This is a common problem (I see lots of posts)
The problem source is the [Dell] AC adapter. PA-21 Family, 65W, P/N: NX061. It is made in China.
I have an XPS M1330. Using Dell after warranty service, replaced the Mother Board twice, replaced the battery twice, replaced the AC adapter twice - not fixing it.
Turns out the power warning message is very informative. It states "Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or greater for best system performance". So, I plugged in my Dell 95W adapter - WOW Problem Solved.
A lab test of my new Dell 65W AC adapter shows it to be 64.6 watts. If this unit gets hot (like after several hours of use), it may not put out the full 65 watts - the system may not recognize the adapter, it may power the system ok, but won't charge the battery.
These units burn out after only a few months of use. Their cables are too fragile. If Dell's or their supplier's Quality Control can't produce a reliable 65W product - I found seveal "Made In USA" universal adapters.

Answer:AC Adapter - Alert - "AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined"

Well my solution was simple.
I just removed the battery pack and powered up my notebook. Then I turned off the notebook replaced the battery pack and VOILA. The error message was gone.

Hi,Our 7040 minitower has two standard (not ++) DisplayPorts. Our monitor is dvi-D (dual-link). Dell supplied the tower with a DisplayPort to dvi adapter. The advice received was that this adapter wouldn't work because it was passive. However, hooked it up and the dvi-D (dual-link) monitor displayed perfectly.Would anyone know why this adapter succeeded (when apparently it shouldn't have)?

Answer:How did this passive display adapter do the job that should have needed an active adapter?

Its not a passive adapter.
HDMI is bi directional and passive.
Display port is not.

I have Dell Inspiron 5547 laptop (Touch Screen, 15 inches, 16 GB RAM and i7 4th Gen processor, Out of Warranty). Some days back, suddenly the display went dim and anything is hardly visible. After some initial investigation, the display chip (may be VGA or LED display chip) on the motherboard appears to be burnt out (may be due to voltage surge). Even the numbers printed on the chip is not readable because of which it is difficult for the local repairing shops to repair this problem.
I think Dell India Service Center doesn't deal with chip level repair and hence replacing motherboard is the only way they can fix this. This will be very costly (considering that the laptop is not under warranty so will have to pay for warranty extension, motherboard replacement and repair service) and time consuming.
Hence, to avoid all this I have come here to seek some assistance.
If there are anyone using the same laptop (Inspiron 5000 series 5547 Touch Screen Display with i7 4th Gen Processor and 16 GB RAM) then could you please take a clear picture of your laptop's motherboard or if you recognize the display chip then only that should be sufficient. In this case, I can read the chip related number from the image and try to repair it.
What are the charges for buying a warranty for the laptop, motherboard of my laptop and repairing charge?

Request your response and help.

Regards,
Rohit Kumar

Answer:Display Issue - Dim Display for Dell Inspiron 5000 (Model 5547) - Touch Screen Display with i7 4th Gen Processor and 16 GB RAM

You'll have to call Dell about the possibility of a warranty extension; in the US, it's sometimes possible but will likely run over $300 -- or about what a board replacement would cost.
If you're getting video, the GPU is OK -- and it's more likely the power circuit to the backlight that's bad. It'll likely cost as much to repair as to replace the board -- though you'll still be putting $300-400 into an out of warranty system, so replacing the system may be a better idea (if you do this, consider buying a 3-year warranty with the next system).

I bought a new MEDION AKOYA P5334E and the system arrived installed normally with win7 home edition.

I've installed on the computer the win7 enterprise edition (x64) and many drivers could not be find. I've installed nost of them, except the display adapter.
It's stuck on "standard vga graphic adapter".
I have the AMD Radeon HD7570 card but no matter what I try is not working!!!
tried to uninstall the current driver, tried to download the driver from the AMD website (when executing it - it's running but does nothing).
when executed the auto detect from AMD website, I got the message "we were unable to find your product or OS"

Will be greatful for any help!!!
Thanks a lot!!!

Answer:display adapter is stuck on standard vga adapter

Welcome to the Sevem Forums, Oraz.

If you still have the DVD of Windows 7 home edition and if it is also 64-bit then you might find the graphics adapter driver there which might get installed. Otherwise try installing Graphics Card AMD Radeon HD7570 in Windows XP SP3 mode.

Another option is to try installing the Graphics Card AMD Radeon HD7570 that you have downloaded in the safe mode. In case the this driver gets loaded in the safe mode then it shall install too.

I have recently purchased a W540 and connected to my Dell u3011 30" monitor. I used the Dual Link DVI-D cable that came with the monitor and plugged it into my Ultra Dock. The maximum resolution i can get is 1920x1080? When i change over to a Display port cable i can achieve the full 2560 x 1600 resolution? Is there something i need to do in addition to achieve the full 2560x1600 resolution with the DVI-D dual link cable? I want to be able to connect 2 laptops to the one monitor and only have 1 display port input so i need to be able to use the DVI cable on the 2nd machine while still achieving 2560x1600 resolution.

Answer:W540 - Dual Monitor Display Resolution with DVI-D Dual Link Cable

DVI-D port on the Ultradock is single link only. If you need DVI-D at dual link resolution (i.e. 2560x1600), you need an active displayport to dual link converter. Startech makes them, they should be around 80 USD or something of that region.

I am planning on making this project myself but first I have one question. Here is the project I will be making:
http://siliconrepublic.blogspot.com.au/2011/02/arduino-based-pc-ambient-lighting.html

It says I need a 12V DC supply for powering the breadboard. When searching up for 12V DC supplies, I only get power supply's that plug into the wrong wall socket (I live in Australia).
Do I need to get something like the article suggests:
http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-AC-Veh...1KZ6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1297231222&sr=8-2

Or can I get something such as this:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DC-12V-1...?pt=AU_Laptop_Accessories&hash=item336678ae52
If the first option is the only possibility, how do I get the plug to go into my wall socket?
Also, how do I get the other end plugged into the breadboard when the product just has a single plug on the end?

Answer:What type of power adapter do I need?

You can use the Ebay adaptor, the easiest way to get 2 wires is to get a socket that fits the plug, like this one :- http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/5-5-x-2-...05?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item4167b5b34d and solder 2 wires to that socket.

The circuit at your link uses a 2 wire plug into the breadboard, you would have to get a similar plug OR you could push bare wires into the breadboard.

OR you could cut the plug off to reveal the 2 wires but they will probably be quite thin and may not connect well if pushed into the breadboard holes.

Lenovo Syetm Update run and everything is up-to-date. So occasionally it switches back to single display (laptop screen) then immediately switches back to dual display. Seems to do this randonly without warning. I don't see any obvious issues, event log does not show any problems when the issue occurs. I did reinstall the display driver but that did not help. This is more of an annoyance then anything else. I just stop what I am doing and wait for it to switch back to dual display, as I use the external monitor as my primary desktop.

I recently hooked up a secondary monitor to my ati 9800 XT, and its crap!

It's a Goldstar Stuidoworks 76i monitor. I have a dvi-vga adaptor and a regular vga-m/m cable. the problem isnt with the dvi cause if i plug my good monitor into the dvi adaptor, it works well and the 76i is still blurry.

the problem is if i change the resolution to anything greater than 800x600, the picture gets very fuzzy, and unusable. i've tried lots of different freq. combinations, and tried changing the colour as well. i looked all over for drivers for the monitor but i didnt find any for XP, i found something that was basically colour profiles, i loaded them, but they didnt change anything.

am i forgetting something? or is the monitor just CRAPOLA?

thank you so much for your help!!

- satan.

Answer:Fuzzy Secondary Display? 9800XT dual display issues.

Well since you checked to DVI adapter with another monitor I say your monitor is going bad. How old is it? There might be a label with the year on it the back. I have seen this happen to monitors only old 3 years old but usually it monitors older than that.

Other signs indicating its near death is a high pitch whine at higher resolutions or max brightness and contrast.

I am getting this error message. My battery is not charging. And it is clocking my cpu speed to 0.5 GHz. I heard that there is a pin in the DC jack that tells a chip on the computer to tell the computer that the AC adapter is not suitable (whether damage or low wattage). I'm wondering if there is a way to disable the chip and just use it at full speed, I don't really need a battery because I'm mainly on AC use anyways.

Answer:The wattage and type of the AC adapter cannot be determined

Mine will do that if the plug is not all the way in. It has happened to me twice now and I would have thought it would take more than 1/16th of an inch to cause the situation.
Sorry I don't know of a way to bypass this check.

So.. I see this problem has been posted about before, so I just wanna know what my options are.
This problem actually popped up on me a few months ago, but I was able to remove and insert the power cord a few times and the message would go away and I would be able to charge my battery. But as a month or two passed, it became more finicky, and I had to jiggle with it a little more, but still, I was able to charge my battery and use my laptop wire-free.
Now today, I've been trying all day, and cannot for the life of me get the battery to charge. I get the following message when I plug the wire in.
"The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or higher for best system operation."
Also, I think its worth nothing that a lot of people mention that this error message comes up while they are booting their Laptops, mine only comes up once Vista is loaded and I attempt to reinsert the cord.
So, I have tried another Dell charger, a 90W one, and the same problem does occur (My original is a 65W). I am planning on getting a different battery tomorrow to see if it is the battery, as this ones usable life was getting quite low, down to barely a half hour per full charge. My warranty, although I'm not sure of the specifics, was not expired when this problem first came up, but is now expired by I would say 2 months at the most.

Since you've tried a new Dell adapter to no effect, next suspect is the DC jack -- replace this part:

Hi!

Awhile ago, I started getting this error message when I started up my computer (after the initial Dell screen). It stated:

The AC adapter type cannot be determined. This will prevent optimal system performance.

Strike the F3 key (before the F1 or F2 key) if you do not want to see power warning messages again.

Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the set up utility.

-----

I ignored this problem for awhile by just hitting F1. However, within the last month, it has gotten worse. Instead of this error message coming up when I started my computer - after the initial Dell screen, nothing would come up except a little flashing line in the top left hand corner of the screen, and the computer would not start up passed that. I proceeded to fiddle with the plug that I plug into my laptop from adapter. I would push it harder into the laptop and/or twist it in after I hit the start up button, waiting to see if, after the initial Dell screen, I could get the error message to come up again so I could hit F1 so my computer would actually start up. I really don't know if any of that helped, but I figure if it was the adapter, then I should try something like that. I even blew it the plug and into the socket in the laptop tonight. However, tonight, I almost could not get the computer to start up all the way - I kept getting the screen with the little blinking line after the initial Dell screen and no error message. Eventually, after trying several times, I did get the error ... Read more

Hi everybody... my step daughter is having a problem with her dell precision m6300 laptop. Whenever she turns on her laptop, she gets the above message. The laptop will not go past this screen without the current plugged in. I also cannot access the bios menu or any setup menu or the desktop. It's just stuck on this one screen. I'm thinking it could just need a new charger but I'm not sure, any help would be appreciated.

I'm having trouble finding an adapter for my X1 Carbon M.2 SSD. The laptop is fried, but I'm hoping to get some of the files out of the SSD. The model number is Intel SSDSCMMW240A3L and I've found that it's a "B Key" 6 pin connector, but it seems like around the pins is different (less space alloted between the 6 and the next 20 pins). So standard M.2 adapters won't work Is anyone aware of any type of external adapters that I can plug this unit into? They can be Sata, USB, PCIE, doesn't matter. Thanks

I had to reinstall windows 7 on my acer aspire 5560g laptop, I installed the drivers on the Acer site. I found the legacy updates for my cards and installed them. And I am still having problems.

The monitor is not showing the native resolution of 1366 x 768, it's topping out at 1024 x 768, it's refusing to let me use the built in screen savers. It's supposed to be a duel graphics system and the device manager lists two under the display drivers. Both are listed as standard vga display. One with the little yellow exclamation mark. It's driving me nutty. Can someone help me?

On a side note, the slider for screen brightness has also gone missing, and the fn brightness control doesn't work either.

Answer:Display adapter now listed as standard vga display

You are missing the graphics drivers. To save you some time here I gave you a link:

Windows 7 64 turns off the monitor 1 signal after startup. At login, it powers off monitor 1 and powers on monitor 2. Windows 7 behaves as though dual display is working even though monitor 1 does not display. It's the same for single display, the monitor will not work on cable 1 except at startup.

Both 'Extend these displays' in Windows Screen Resolution and 'Extend' in the Nvidia Control Panel is selected. And changing which one is primary does not turn on monitor 1. Nor does switching the position of display 1 in either (ex. left/right/top/bottom).

GeForce 8400 GS; Dual Monitor Solution 59 pin (DMS-59) to 2 VGA adapter -tried two of these adapter cables.
Latest Driver: 306.23 - installed a clean reset install of the latest Nvidia driver released last week.
Same Resolution: 2 of the 4 monitors I have tried have the exact same 'recommended' resolution (1280X 1024), both 60Hz, and even chose 16 bit color for both instead of 32 to reduce resources.

Linux worked: Dual display worked immediately when I tried it in Ubuntu 10. So, it's not the hardware. It works in Ubuntu 12 too but not properly -it won't transfer windows across displays.
My Windows 7 64 is an upgrade from Vista 64. One person in another forum with the same problem resolved theirs by reinstalling Windows 7. But another got the same problem only after a fresh clean install of Windows 7 64 with the same GeForce 8400 GS and DMS-59 when it had previously worked in Vista. Dual Monitors - On... Read more

My ThinkPad T500 running 64-bit Windows 7 Professional Edition worked great on and off a mini docking station with 2 external monitors. The dual-display setup allowed me to have more desktop space; when needed, I can take the laptop off the docking station (following undocking steps) and use it anywhere. This convenience no longer holds after upgrading to Windows 10.

With the T500 in the docking station (LCD lid closed), I can use the dual-display setup as in Windows 7. However, after shut-down and remove the T500 off the docking station and the T500 laptop becomes unusable because its LCD display doesn't show anything after boot. (While booting the laptop's display shows the ThinkPad boot logo and then some DOS-mode boot messages and then the windows 10 logo and its dotted spinning wheel; after the initial boot the display went blank and the Windows 10 desktop doesn't come up.)

The only way to make the T500 laptop usable on its own is to go through a "preparation procedure" and here is how the procedure goes: While the T500 is on the docking station in the dual-display setup with the 2 external monitors, open the T500's lid and set its display as the main display and then select to disconnect the other 2 external displays (in the Settings -> System -> Display page); then , in the T500's LCD display, select the shut down. Once the T500 is properly powered off, remove it from the docking station and the T500 can work on its own as a laptop supposed to be. W... Read more

I've just installed a new GeForce 8400GS PCI-e video card that has one DVI and one VGA output, but no matter what drivers I install for it, only one output will work at a time. The system only shows a single display device. I'm needing to run 2 monitors at the same time. Any ideas as to why it would be doing this?

After running my B570 (1068) with an extended display, the unit went into hibernation. On wake-up the laptop screen is indecipherable garbage. The second display will run to show BIOS startup but then reverts to the built-in screen - which is illegible. Toggling the F3 key does not get a good screen. I read another post suggesting this is a hardware failure. What parts have failed?

Hello! I've been around here for a sometimes but never registered as a users because I find all the solution I needed, but I have one follow problems that I can't solve and I need sevenforum's help!

I recently bought Sapphire Radeon HD 6770 and comparing game performance with my old graphic card Nvidia 9800 GT, I don't see much of a difference. According to my friend who builds computer, he said it's suppose to be superior differences between those 2 graphic cards. I also tried to sign up for BETA profile for Blizzard game series and apparently it kept detecting the Radeon HD 4200, which is my integrated card. Anyways, my question is, how can I change my Adapter Type? I posted a picture of it so you guys can see what's my problem is. I have the latest Catalyst Control Panel from the sites sticky thread .

I don't know how to check my computer stuff, so here's my computer on website: HP - Pavilion Desktop / AMD Athlon™ II Processor / 4GB Memory / 750GB Hard Drive - p6654y

My english is my second language so if you can't understand what I said I'll be glad to explain again lol. Rough draft xD.

I've already tried Driver Sweeper, failed on me .

I don't know what BIOS means either lol.

If my integrated graphic card is disabled for good, I think I might get to see my 6770's full performance. Also tried overclocking, didn't helped at all :[. I still think it's my integrated card's problem, but hey I could be wrong. I'm terrible at computers .

Thanks.

Answer:Changing a video card adapter type help.

Assuming HP didn't hide the option in the bios (and I wouldn't put it past them), have a good look around likely in the Advanced section under Chipset. If it is don't disable it quite yet, first boot back to Windows and uninstall the AMD driver through Programs and Features using the Catalyst Install Manager. Then restart and go into the bios and disable, and re-install the AMD driver using the latest,

Latest AMD Catalyst Video Driver for Windows 7

unless that is the one you already have.

P.S. What you're seeing shouldn't happen, but with the way HP likes to hide/disable/monkey around in general with bios settings I'm not really surprised that it did. When it works properly (the AMD onboard video with an AMD video card) you can actually use both at the same time for running up to 4 (or 5 depending on video card) monitors at a time.

Ok, I have read through these forums, and others, and have been unable to resolve this issue after trying like a million things. Here's my issue:
This is on a Dell Inspiron N4030 running Windows 8 Pro with Bios Revision A07.
On boot-up I get this message:
"The AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined.
The battery may not charge.
The system will adjust the performance to match the power available.
Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or greater for the best system performance.
Strike the F3 key (before F1 or F2 key) if you do not want to see this power warning message again.
Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility."

If I strike F2 and go into the bios it says "AC adapter type unknown"
If I strike F1 to continue boot-up it boots into windows and then the battery indicator shows "Plugged in, Not charging"

In attempting to fix this issue I have:

1. Replaced the battery.
2. Replaced the motherboard
3. Replaced the Power Board
4. Swapped out the adapter with several other Dell adapters we have in the house (we have 6 Dell laptops). Adapter revisions used are A00, A01, and A02.
5. Did the whole rigamarole here: http://jeffreypalermo.com/blog/plugged-in-not-charging-windows-7-solution/
6. Tried various combinations of plugging/unplugging at different intervals and at different speeds that I have read on multiple sites.
7. Reset the Bios by disconnecting the battery and AC adapter and the hold... Read more

Hi alexkharden,Great job done on the troubleshooting, we appreciate that you’ve tried all possible steps to isolate and resolve the issue. However, please try removing the battery and inserting on another Dell Computer and charge the battery for at-least 50%.Once the charge is completed kindly insert the battery back on your Inspiron N4030 computer also connecting the original AC Adapter.
Turn on the computer and flash the BIOS by clicking on the link below.http://dell.to/1dFtXxLType the Service tag and under Drivers and Downloads select the Operating system and select option BIOS and install the same.NOTE: In order to flash BIOS the battery needs to be charged at least 20%.Please try the above mentioned steps and let us know your findings.

I have a Yoga Pro 3 I purchased here in the US a couple of months ago. This summer I'll be moving to Moldova (eastern Europe) with the Peace Corps and plan to take my Yoga with me. Moldova has 220-240V Type C power outlets. Ideally, I'd like to purchase a power adapter for my Yoga that is already configured with a Type C plug. The US Lenovo customer service staff can't seem to tell me if I can buy one. I know Germany also uses Type C but I don't see the option to buy the 40W power adapter on their site. The below adapter is available on the UK site but I'm not sure UK adapters are compatible with Type C outlets:http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/gbweb/LenovoPortal/en_GB/catalog.workflow:item.detai... Does anyone out there who travels to Europe or owns a Yoga Pro 3 in Europe have any tips on buying a native adapter? If I need to use a convertor I will... I'm just trying to cut down on the accessories I have to carry with me.

Is there a way for a Windows 10 firewall rule to determine what network adapter is in use? Can it differentiate between Wi-Fi, TAP, Ethernet, etc.?
Poking around Windows Firewall for the first time, I don't see any settings related to network adapter, but I wonder if the "local IP address" settings could be useful. Would the different adapters show up as different local IP addresses, in some way that is consistent enough to make a rule out of it?

My Dell Inspiron 6400 HDD damaged without any warning last week and cannot be repaired, so i had to replace it with another HDD. Everything works fine after that except that when i plugged in my AC adapter, the power warning message “The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or higher for best system operation" will appear, and my battery will not charge.

Previously this power warning message will occur only when i didn't plug in properly and it worked fine after i replug the adapter. Since i changed my HDD, this warning message appears everytime i turn on my laptop. I tried updating the BIOS but it doesn't help, the problem is still there. I suspect that my AC adapter is damaged but when i tried it with another Inspiron 6400, it worked fine without the warning message appearing, that shows that there isn't any problem with my AC adapter..

Any solutions for this? I hope i don't have to change the motherboard or whatsoever, because my laptop is out of warranty. Is it something to do with the configuration? - since i formatted my computer and reinstalled everything..

thanks heaps for any comments!

Answer:Power adapter type cannot be determined after replacing new HDD

You may have a damaged DC jack in the laptop if the adapter works on another laptop, which would go with you replugging the power adapter to clear the error in the past. Its not uncommon for the jacks to break from the motherboard and require re-soldering, in some cases the jacks crack or break and need to replaced. To get at the jack you will need to have the laptop completely disassembled.

P.S. 'spoiled' isn't not the correct term to use with failed electronics.
